Michael Voltaggio Drink Good Do Good

Michael Voltaggio Drink Good Do Good

Voltaggio recently teamed up with Naked Juice (and other famous spokespeople, like Adrian Grenier and Common) for their Drink Good. Do Good. campaign. Every time someone posts a photo to social media holding a piece of produce and uses the hashtag #DrinkGoodDoGood, Naked Juice will donate 10 pounds of produce to the nonprofit Wholesome Wave. Wholesome Wave then will donate the produce to people living in food deserts — more than 24 million Americans who don't have access to grocery stores or markets selling fresh fruit and veggies.

Because of his own experience as a kid, Michael understands the importance of getting kids excited about eating fruits and vegetables.

"I was the pickiest kid in the world growing up — fruits and vegetables were not part of my diet," he told SheKnows. "As I grew up, I started to look for ways to take fruit and vegetables and make them in a way that I like. So that sort of evolved my culinary style. And I think Naked Juice does that as well." They take fruit and vegetables that some people might not want to eat and turn them into great-tasting juice. "If I can reframe fruits and vegetables in a way I like, it's a no-brainer, and I think Naked does that too."

He also uses a lot of juices in the kitchen of his restaurant, Ink. "We use a lot of vegetable juices to make sauces. Instead of a roasted piece of pork with a roasted pork sauce, we do a piece of meat with a juiced turnip sauce. We're always trying out interesting ways to run things through the juicer," he said.

His eating style at home is a little less elaborate. His three kitchen staples? "Mayonnaise, cottage cheese and eggs." And a typical meal? "I usually eat very simply," he said. "Usually just scrambled eggs" or "a simple kale salad with Caesar dressing, and I'll put Triscuits on top of it like croutons."

Michael answered a few of our questions about his time on Season 6 of Top Chef too.

His drink of choice after a long day:

"It depends on the mood! A glass of wine, or it could be a scotch, depending on how bad the day was. I drink a lot of sport drinks because after being in the kitchen all day, you get dehydrated."

On the friends he made on the show:

"I'm still in touch with Mike Isabella. We were friends before the show, and we're still friends today."

And what was it like watching Mei Lin, his former sous chef, compete on the show?

"We were rooting for her. I think the last thing I told her before she went to go do it was 'win,' and she did. She never let us down in the kitchen, and she didn't let us down when she competed on Top Chef."

The moment he knew the judges meant business:

"I still stay in touch with Tom [Colicchio] on a regular basis. I'll never forget one thing about him. We had a relay race — and this was off camera — but some of the people were having a hard time with shucking clams, and he was like, 'You guys, come on, are you serious?' He grabbed a clam with one hand and a knife in the same hand, and then he just hit his hand on the table, and the clam opened right up. We were all just like, 'This guy's first class. He still throws down.'"

So, if he went back in time, would he compete on Top Chef and do it all again?

"Absolutely. I think it helped us reach a whole new demographic with the style of food I'm cooking at my restaurant and the style of food I was cooking as a chef."

And as for Drink Good. Do Good.:

"It's as simple as a selfie. Find a great piece of fruit or vegetable, take a picture of it [and use #DrinkGoodDoGood when you post it on social media], and 10 pounds of produce get donated to people in need. I mean, how many selfies do people take in one day? It's really that simple."

Grandparents pose for epic photobooth session at wedding (PHOTO)

However, very few people can boast grandparents as cool as these six who posed hilariously in the photo booth with their four friends at their grandson's wedding. The wedding took place in Nashville, which already implies a rowdy time. But no one expected the grandparents would steal the show by taking the most epic group wedding photo of all time.

MoreWhole town gets in on marriage proposal after massive fail

Odds are you've come in contact with a photo booth or screen where you can grab funny hats, glasses, boas, etc, and pose for the camera. This side attraction is usually popular with the younger crowd who enjoyed doing similar schtick at sweet 16s and bar and bat mitzvahs. While parents sometimes jump in there (usually posing dorkily), it's rare to see grandparents take it upon themselves to try it out.

That's what made this moment so special. The photographers at the wedding said their awesome poses just came naturally. "We encourage our guests to take multiple fun photos in the photo booth," said photographer Teal Hunter to the Huffington Post. "So after a formal-looking photo, Justin encouraged them to do whatever they feel, and Grandma chose this pose."

Image: Teale Photography

It doesn't get more epic than that. After the photographer took the photo, the groom's grandmother (the one giving the middle finger) told him to show the bride. He did as he was told (seriously, who would cross that ballsy lady?), and she and her bridesmaids could not stop laughing.

More: Couple break tradition with crazy wedding dance (VIDEO)

A friend of the bride and groom, Michael Riddering, saw the photo, and immediately posted it on Reddit. From there, it quickly went viral, collecting over 2.5 million hits on Imgur in a matter of days. The funniest part about that is that the grandparents and their friends have no concept of what "going viral" means. However, the friends of their grandchildren said that they were pretty excited to hear about all the attention.

William Weiss, who's dating the groom's sister told Huffington Post that the grandparents are actually nothing like what you see in the photo, but that's what makes it particularly special. That night, all bets were off. According to Weiss, the groom's grandmother (the middle finger giver) had already been kicking her heels up on the dance floor. He told the Daily Mail, "She was out there dancing the entire night, and she was loving dancing with the groomsmen."

You go, awesome grandma. If you can't go nuts at your grandson's wedding, when can you?

#HowWeFamily celebrates pride in family and traditions

Actor William Levy learned that lesson at an early age, and he's sharing it with all of us through Tylenol's #HowWeFamily campaign.

Growing up in Cuba, he knows what it means to do without, and he wasn't very old when he realized that his grandma was doing without for him. Later, when he immigrated to the United States, he made a similar realization when he found out his uncle was working not to support himself, but Levy and his mother.

"Immigrant families come here to do something for someone else," he said.

That life lesson made a big impact on the young Levy, and it continues to influence the way he raises his own two children. "Family is before everything," he says in his own #HowWeFamily video.

HowWeFamily

HowWeFamily

Pride in family

The #HowWeFamily campaign was meant to start a conversation that showcases the diversity of families today and the shared pride families have in how they love.

For Hispanic families like Levy's, pride is an attribute rooted in their family system. According to the Tylenol #HowWeFamily survey, 9 out of 10 Hispanic Americans feel universal pride in their family. As National Hispanic Heritage Month is approaching, there's no better time than now to rejoice in the heritage, culture and traditions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

Pride in traditions

According to the same survey, 9 out of 10 Hispanics believe it's important to preserve the traditions they grew up with and to pass traditions on to other family members — something Levy touched on in his video.

Understanding where you came from is a tradition that helps keep families strong.

That's why the #HowWeFamily campaign is so noteworthy. It's grounded in the notion that it isn’t about who you love, but how. The campaign encourages consumers to utilize #HowWeFamily on social media to join the conversation during a Twitter party on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 8 p.m. EST. Join, and tell us how you family.

The Twitter party will be hosted by Latina Bloggers Connect, with SheKnows influencers and Ana Roca Castro as special guests. Join in the party for a chance to win great prizes — only those who RSVP are entered to win. Click here for rules and more information.

The supermodel posted a snap from her upcoming two-volume Taschen Books series, as previewed by Garage magazine, and she was totally topless. Unfortunately for her (and the rest of the world), Instagram’s controversial anti-nudity policy, which allows male nipples but not female nipples, quickly came into play and the picture disappeared.

The View hosts give unconvincing apology for nursing comments (VIDEO)

Miss Colorado, Kelley Johnson, performed an original monologue chronicling her job as a nurse at the Miss USA pageant. She stood onstage wearing her scrubs and stethoscope. It was moving and touching, different and out of the box for a beauty pageant. Even if you didn’t like it or didn’t think it was a "talent," she was unique and worthy of respect.

The panel on The View decided not only to criticize and belittle Johnson, but all nurses. Michelle Collins said, “She came out in a nurse’s uniform and basically read her emails out loud... it was hilarious."

It was pretty offensive and sparked a backlash. Now they are trying — and failing — to apologize. On Wednesday morning, Collins addressed the criticism, saying, "I want to say, we love nurses. If you’re watching, we adore you, respect you. Clap for nurses.” It wasn't patronizing at all [read: sarcasm].

Collins tried to explain that her words were "misconstrued."

Joy Behar, who wondered aloud why Miss Colorado was wearing a "doctor’s stethoscope" said, "I was just not paying attention. I was looking at a Miss America tape and there’s a woman wearing an outfit with a stethoscope, and I’m thinking, 'Is she in a costume?' I didn't know she was a nurse. It's not like I was trying to be funny. It was just stupid and inattentive. I didn’t know what the hell I was thinking about."

Of all the ladies, Behar gets the closest to an apology. Which is a lot better than what fellow cohosts Whoopi Goldberg and Raven-Symoné had to say. Both basically blamed nurses and the audience for "not listening" or not understanding what was said.

Hey, ladies, side note: It’s probably not a good idea to double down and call the people you just offended stupid on top of it.

And the Internet is not letting the panelists off the hook for their would-be apology, either. #NursesUnite is still trending and quickly growing legs.

There are 10 nurses for every three physicians in the U.S., so if something (heaven forbid) should happen to one of you, guess who will most likely be pulling out his or her stethoscope to check you out: a nurse. And as the sister of a nurse practitioner, I can tell you firsthand they are still pissed about the hurtful things that were said; it’s not just keyboard quarterbacks jumping on a hashtag bandwagon.

This is one hornets' nest that is not even close to calming down after being poked. It will be interesting to see if The View addresses #NursesUnite as it turns into a fully fledged movement online.

Fun fact: Doctors don't usually have a stethoscope with them... they tend to borrow the nurse's.

Conservative Party allegedly buying Facebook raises a lot questions

$

According to a CBC News report, some third-party websites or videos that you are clicking have malware embedded in them, which in turn will suddenly make you like companies, organizations and hell, even political parties that you never even thought about.

More: Talking politics to kids

Yes, it’s quite a sleazy thing to do but ethics aside, everyone does this, from politicians to fast-food joints. While it’s very sneaky (if you aren’t looking for it, you wouldn’t even realize it had happened), it’s not uncommon for the Conservative Party of Canada to spend large sums of money to explore alternative means of advertising to potential voters, especially young ones. Lest we forget the robo-call!

The Liberals, Greens and NDP have all gone on the record as saying that while they buy advertising on Facebook, they have not bought phony “likes”. On the other hand, the Conservative Party's director of communications, Cory Hann, has remained silent on the issue, putting out the statement that the phony likes were “an internal party matter.”

More: Kids have a big problem with how the media treats women in politics (VIDEO)

The rise of fake followers on social media platforms is becoming a larger and larger issue - and the biggest question to ask: where do all these phony likes coming from and should I believe the political organization who are purchasing them. In the media and in the court of public opinion, we typically quantify success of public figures and/or organizations by the number of followers or likes they have. We believe that by engaging in what we believe to be genuine communication with genuine followers, we can partake in conversation with like-minded individuals.

In this case, many Facebook users are being duped into liking a political organization they don’t particularly support. The Conservative Party of Canada’s digital social media team made the executive decision to take a chance on peer-to-peer communication. Explained by media consultant Susie Erjavec Parker, of Sparker Strategy Group media, "If I know you well and I see that Reg likes a certain brand, and I'm looking to shop, maybe I say, 'Well, if Reg is liking that, maybe I need to take a second look.'"

Social media is redefining brand influence and the way we interact with and share our political views. Just as expensive as any advertisement on TV, the digital social media team (for any political party, not just the Conservatives) can buy likes, followers and conversation on any number of social media sites in an attempt to increase others’ perception of your influence. The bigger question to ask is: if your potential political party is buying their social credibility then what does this say about the rest of their political practises.

7 Reasons women get vaginal rejuvenations besides aesthetics

$

Well, no one actually wants to get vaginal rejuvenation, right?

Wrong.

In a post on Marie Claire, they note a survey from the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery that reported 53,332 vaginal rejuvenation procedures by U.S. doctors in 2009. But what's more, they stated that "60 percent of all these procedures are performed on women 20 to 39."

According to Express, a U.K. news site, the average age of patients is 28, "with more women now choosing to have surgery for aesthetic rather than medical reasons." Thus, vaginal rejuvenation might be a misleading term, as numbers show it is not just for women in their golden years.

More: Vagacula touted as the 'ultimate' vaginal rejuvenation therapy

Types of procedures

Vaginal rejuvenation — also sometimes called "designer vagina" — covers a range of procedures, including:

  • G-spot amplification: Injects collagen into the front wall to enhance pleasure
  • Clitoral unhooding: Removes the tissue surrounding the clitoris
  • Hymenoplasty (aka revirgination): Repairs the hymen back to its virgin-like state
  • Vaginoplasty: Tightens the vaginal canal
  • Labiaplasty: Reshapes and/or diminishes size of the labia

In fact, earlier this year, NBC News reported from Aesthetic Plastic Surgery that there was a 49 percent increase in labiaplasty procedures, from 5,070 in 2013 to 7,535 in 2014.

Causes of damage

However, despite this latest craze to run to the doctor to obtain the golden egg of all vaginas (more power to you!), there are actual medical reasons for undergoing such surgeries as well. According to WebMD, there are several situations that can cause damage to our pelvic regions, in which surgery may be required for repair, like:

  • Childbirth (both pregnancy and/or labor)
  • Obesity
  • Chronic respiratory problems (long-term coughs)
  • Bowel issues (constipation)
  • Pelvic cancers
  • Pelvic surgeries (hysterectomies)
  • Genetics

Medical reasons for surgery

These situations can cause problems like pain during sex, discomfort when exercising, embarrassing noises and even urinary dysfunction. If you have any of the following conditions, your doctor may recommend certain vaginal rejuvenation procedures. Of course, it is always best to get a second opinion before undergoing any type of surgery.

1. Bladder prolapse (aka cystocele)

When the vaginal muscles weaken, the bladder can "sink" into the vagina. Depending on the grade of prolapse, there may be alternative solutions — like a pessary or hormone replacement therapy — before you opt for vaginoplasty.

2. Rectal prolapse (aka rectocele)

Similarly, weakened pelvic muscles can cause the rectum to slip. By restrengthening the vaginal muscles via vaginoplasty, the rectum can be pushed and held back into place.

3. Urinary incontinence

When the pelvic floor (a group of muscles that hold the bladder, uterus, vagina, lower bowel, etc.) weakens because of childbirth, old age or menopause, loss of bladder control can occur, especially when exercising or coughing and sneezing. When Kegels and other solutions can't restrengthen the pelvic floor, vaginoplasty may be an option, according to Medic8.

More: 5 Natural ways to deal with urinary incontinence

4. Perineal tears from delivery

After childbirth, there are several degrees of perineal tears that can occur, from small nicks to ones that can lacerate vaginal tissue or even anal muscles. In a Canadian policy statement, Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery, the committee states that this is a condition that could qualify for medical correction.

5. Sexual satisfaction

Although claims that vaginal rejuvenation can increase pleasure are still highly disputed, a loosened or enlarged vagina can pinch or cause pain while having sex and can cause difficulty in using tampons. Surgery can restrengthen and tighten the vaginal walls, allowing for better friction and confidence during sex.

More: The 'vagina facial': What is it and is it safe?

6. Excessive labia

In some cases, women opt for labiaplasty, or labia reduction, when it interferes with daily activities. Dr. Lee Gibstein, a plastic surgeon in Miami, tells Marie Claire of one of his patients, "After long hours of [cycling], the labia would be chafed and swollen, and sometimes they would bleed. Having the skin cut away made it possible for her to race comfortably." And FYI, Women's Health Magazine states the average sizes: 1.9 centimeters for the labia minora on the right and 2.1 centimeters for the left. Just thought you'd like to know...

7. Weak muscles

Sometimes the vaginal muscles can weaken to a point where surgery may be an option. After women undergo childbirth or menopause, the vagina can enlarge, and the muscles can wear out. If Kegel exercises don't work and you've already tried alternative methods, vaginoplasty will tone and tighten the canal, relieving you of pain and discomfort.

Considering any surgery can be a big decision. Make sure you get a second opinion and research alternative methods first. The authors of Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery policy statement note, "Women considering these surgeries should be informed of the risks of the procedure, including bleeding, infection, scarring, dyspareunia, alteration in sensation, pain, wound dehiscence, decrease in sexual pleasure, and possible dissatisfaction with cosmetic or other results."

Viall showed up to OK! magazine’s Spring 2016 New York Fashion Week party at Haus Nightclub with gorgeous model Kelly Thomas on his arm, and he does not seem to be missing Kaitlyn Bristowe at all.

"Nick looked like the cat that got the cream," a source told the Daily Mail. "He arrived at the event with Kelly and was all over her — he was showing her off all night."

Perhaps Viall is just tired of brunettes — after all, he was rejected by Bachelorette Andi Dorfman, too.

He was also spotted with blonde Sadie Murray at an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in August, but according to him, the date was just a one-off.

"I’d consider her a friend," he told Hollywood Take. "We had a good time. There's not much there in terms of a relationship. I'm dating, which is fun, but not exclusively."

So, in other words, Miss Thomas probably should not get too attached.

Yes, the oldest child of Will and Jada is officially over his Kardashian dalliance and has moved on to greener pastures. He may have gone to two different proms with singer Mecca Kalani and actress Amandla Stenberg, but it seems he has settled down with another woman named Sarah Snyder.

The two got some major attention on Tuesday while cuddling up at a show during New York Fashion Week; however, their romance dates back at least several months.

We're guessing not being PDA shy is a requirement for dating one of the Smith kids — and Snyder has proven that she is more than game. The couple has been graphically smoochie at NYFW and there's also this footage of them all over each other at the Pitch Perfect 2 premiere back in May.

Captain of the Iranian national women's soccer team, Niloufar Ardalan, will miss the upcoming Asian Football Federation Women's Futsal Championship held in Malaysia because her husband, sports journalist Mahdi Toutounchi, has not given her permission to travel, New York Post reports.

The reason Ardalan is missing the tournament is reportedly because of a domestic quarrel between herself and her husband — who reportedly wanted her to stay home so she could be there for their son's first day of school.

Under Iranian law, a husband can prevent his wife from travelling outside of the country, and the news of one of Iran's most skilled athletes (nicknamed "Lady Goal") now missing the tournament has reportedly sparked a debate in the country. It has also garnered interest on Twitter.

Why ‘no touching kids’ policies for teachers are a good idea

$

Touch is powerful. Touch is intimate. And although the vast majority of our country's teachers understand the appropriate use of touch when it comes to their students, and many parents worry that "no-touch" policies go too far, I would much rather err on the side of safety when it comes to how educators are allowed to touch my children. Much of the reason for that is based on my experiences working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

More: Domestic violence: How one woman survived the abuse

I spent seven years working as a crisis counselor. One of the first things I learned when I was trained was that touch was not part of that work — there were no hugs, no arms around shoulders, no pats on the back unless they were initiated by the woman I was working with. Part of a survivor's healing process is regaining their autonomy over their bodies, so helping them create those boundaries and then respecting them is critical. Children have similar needs — they need to develop a sense of ownership about their bodies and gain the confidence to make their own decisions about what they are comfortable with. It's the reason why I have never demanded that my kids give Grandma a hug and a kiss — because it is their body, and, therefore, their choice to make. And the relationship between bodies and power — particularly for girls — is an important one.

More: "Fat-girl" apps teach girls to hate their bodies

Just as I am in a position of authority over my kids as a parent, so are teachers their authority figures at school. Do I want them to trust authority figures? Sort of. I want them to respect authority (when deserved) while also respecting themselves and their comfort levels. Because this isn't just about assault — people have different levels of comfort when it comes to touch, and should be able to determine for themselves when, how and with whom they engage in such intimate gestures.

I don't enjoy being touched. I hate having my arm stroked, I don't like to hug people I haven't known for years and years and I don't want a pat on the back. I love to cuddle with my kids, my husband and my mother, but that's about it. Being touched by strangers makes me deeply uncomfortable and afraid — the idea of touch being limited and regulated does not seem cold to me, rather, it seems safe and comforting. The more control a human being has over their mind and body, the more powerful they feel. And I want my children to feel powerful.

More: Why teachers shouldn't be responsible for keeping kids covered in suncream

Are we in danger of going too far? Are we turning all touch into "bad touch" and teaching our children to distrust adults? Maybe. But while I'd hate to see teachers holding a student at arm's length who wants to come in for a hug, for example, I would much rather that children have strict standards at school regarding physical touch than not. To me, safety and respect far outweigh the niceties of touch.

How do you feeling about teachers touching kids? Weigh in!

Kate Gosselin's recent breakup with millionaire was harsh

Kate Gosselin’s millionaire boyfriend just left her, and it wasn’t so much how he did it, but who he is reportedly seeing now that makes it so bad.

Ouch.

The pair, according to ET, called it quits after a feud over the Labor Day weekend. Allegedly, Prescott balked at being a part of filming the reality TV star’s show, Kate Plus 8.

The couple, who tried to keep their dating low key for many months, had known each other for some time and Us Weekly’s source stated Prescott was "very respectful of Kate and her family. Jeff [was] a really, really good guy."

The freaking out may now commence, fellow Cookie Monsters. Because while we're all huge fans of the brilliance that is Empire in general, Taraji P. Henson's performance in the groundbreaking series has been mesmerizing.

This comes as no surprise to Daniels, who is genuinely happy to finally see Henson receive due credit. "Taraji was what I call 'Project Royalty' because in the projects, honey, she is royalty," Daniels told The Hollywood Reporter. "She was Meryl Streep in the streets; it just took a moment for white America to catch on."

So it's only fitting that Cookie should be the subject of her own spinoff. Here's what we know about the impending (fingers crossed!) series, along with a few theories.

1. We will learn more about Cookie's family

While we've seen bits and pieces of Cookie's past, there's much to be uncovered when it comes to her childhood and the people she grew up around. "There's so much ripe story that we've talked about already, about Cookie's family, what makes her her. That in itself is fascinating to me," said Daniels.

2. It would be more female-driven

Cookie Lyon
Image: Giphy

Don't get us wrong — there are plenty of badass ladies on Empire, Cookie included. But the drama centers on Lucious Lyon (played by Terrence Howard) and his and Cookie's three sons: Andre, Jamal and Hakeem. There are a few things this spinoff has going in its favor for a female-centric slant. The first is obvious, in that it is presumably all about Cookie's past. The second is that Empire showrunner Ilene Chaiken has a special knack for fem-fare (think The L Word). And, lastly, we already know that Cookie has two sisters. We met Carol, played by Tasha Smith, last season. This season, Vivica A. Fox joins Empire as Cookie's oldest sister.

3. It won't skimp on the drama

Cookie Lyon
Image: Giphy

It couldn't be a show about Cookie without some drama. Right, boo boo kitties? If Cookie's life now is juicy, we can't wait to see what unfolded to bring her to this place. For his part, Daniels isn't one to shy away from the controversial stuff — "You gotta shake 'em up to make 'em think," he told THR.

4. Bunkie might come back from the dead

Cookie Lyon
Image: Giphy

We're just guessing here, but how could you have a spinoff about Cookie's past and not include her most beloved cousin? Both prior to and in the wake of Bunkie's murder in Season 1 (at the hands of Lucious, no less), we heard about how he was Cookie's closest confidant and how he had a hand in helping to raise the boys. It's a fun idea, considering Bunkie was a likable character. You know, before he went rogue and tried to blackmail the family.

5. We'll get to see how Lucious and Cookie fell in love

Cookie Lyon
Image: Giphy

According to the Hollywood Reporter interview, the second season of Empire is going to dip its toes more into Lucious and Cookie's pre-fame-and-fortune backstory which — hello! — sets up the spinoff perfectly to fill in the blanks and give us a more in-depth look at the hows, whys and whens of Lucious and Cookie falling in love.

More: Being Terrence Howard: 11 Things to know about "Terryology"

6. One word: Puma

Cookie Lyong
Image: Giphy

Remember back in Season 1 when Cookie tracks down her old "friend" Puma (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.) to write a song for Jamal? Only he doesn't pen any new lyrics. Rather, he gives Cookie a song that clearly has some sort of emotional significance for all parties involved: Puma, Cookie and Lucious, who refused to perform it back in the day and disapproves of Jamal's fresh spin on it.

7. It could get a little OITNB-ish

Cookie Lyon
Image: Giphy

The first thing we learned about Cookie was that she had just spent 17 years in jail. Seventeen! And that chunk of time has largely been unexplored. It stands to reason, then, that a spinoff about Cookie would actually go behind bars to capture what her life was like for nearly two decades.

8. We might have to wait a while

Cookie Lyon
Image: Giphy

Although we're now officially dying for this to happen, like, yesterday, the reality is we've got a bit of a wait on our hands. When Fox expressed surprise over Daniels' insistence during a TV conference that there would be a spinoff, the director explained, "It ain't coming anytime soon, because we have to make sure this one is on the ground first, but it's coming."

Bonus! Casting predictions

Cookie Lyon
Image: Giphy

Just for fun, we took a stab at who might play the lead parts. Or, in any case, who we'd love to see in the roles: Taraji P. Henson as young Cookie ('cause she hasn't aged a day), Michael Ealy as young Lucious, Chiwetel Ejiofor as young Bunkie, Kelly Rowland as young Carol and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (yes, Jussie's sis!) as the younger version of Cookie's sister, soon to be played by Vivica A. Fox.

It's perfectly sweet, full of apples and tastes just like a fritter in cake form. Plus it's super simple to make and a huge crowd-pleaser. The hardest part about this cake is not eating it all in one sitting.

Apple fritter cake recipe

This recipe uses white whole-wheat flour, which is delicious, but if you don't have it on hand, all-purpose flour will work too.

Serves 4-6

Prep time: 20 minutes | Bake time: 40 minutes | Total time: 1 hour

Ingredients:

For the filling

  • 1 cup small-diced apples
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice

For the cake

  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons apple butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup white whole-wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt

For the glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or extract

Directions:

For the filling

  1. To a small saucepan set over medium heat, add the apples, brown sugar, water, cornstarch and apple pie spice.
  2. Simmer until the mixture thickens, and then set aside to cool while you prepare the cake.

For the cake

  1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees F, and spray an 8 x 8-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. To the bowl of your electric mixer, add the brown sugar and butter. Beat until the mixture is combined and creamy, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add in the apple butter and egg. Mix until combined.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, apple pie spice, baking soda, baking powder and kosher salt.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the mixer, alternating with the yogurt. Mix together until fully combined.
  6. Spread 1/2 the batter into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, and top with the apple mixture.
  7. Spread the remaining batter on top of the apple mixture. It doesn't have to cover it completely, but try to cover as much as you can.
  8. Place in the oven, and bake for about 40 minutes, until the cake is fully cooked and lightly browned on top.
  9. Remove from the oven, and immediately pour the glaze over cake.
  10. Let cool for about 2 hours so the apples and glaze can set up.

For the glaze

  1. Whisk together the ingredients until smooth. If it's too thick to pour, then add a little more milk. If it's too thin, then add more powdered sugar.

6 Ways to be a good person when you shop back-to-school

$

hile it can be easy to get caught up in the whirl of zebra print notebooks and triple-rainbow highlighters, what all of this advertising fails to acknowledge is that there actually are back-to-school items that you really do need — like textbooks, calculators, binders, pens, shoes etc. — and there are a lot of people who can't afford to buy even the simplest of these classroom necessities.

Enter a variety of merchants who are attempting to put a dent into this inequality by pairing up school supplies and children's clothing items with school supply fundraising campaigns — at no extra cost to you. It makes perfect sense: if you absolutely have to buy a new backpack, why not buy one that also donates money to children's health? When you buy those new fancy shoes — wouldn't it feel better to know that 25 percent of your purchase was being donated to a children's literacy program? These are easy, simple steps we can take to improve not only our own lives, but the lives of everyone around us. So, this fall, make your school shopping matter. Here are five brands that, with your help, want to do amazing things this season:

1. Garments for Good: J.Crew

With slogans like “helping teachers help students” written in pencil scrawl under an illustrated Mead notebook and a collage of school supplies forming a heart, the six T-shirts in J.Crew’s Garments for Good shop are as cute as they are impactful. For every shirt you buy, a donation is made to either donorschoose.org, a website providing invaluable support to teachers and classrooms in need, or Teach for America, a program placing recent college graduates in under-resourced communities nationwide. The T-shirts come in three different styles for each cause, and range from $25 to $32.

2. TOMS Stand Up Backpack Collection

When you buy one of the cool new backpacks from the TOMS Stand Up collection, the company promises to put resources toward helping provide a safe birth for a mother and baby in need or toward anti-bullying campaigns. Ranging from $39 to $54, these chic backpacks have a padded laptop pocket and come in four different patterns. It doesn't stop with backpacks: TOMS offers a variety of great products that all pledge to help both you and someone in need, whether that need be shoes, glasses or water. Studies show that when children have proper shoes and glasses, school attendance rates go through the roof. Browse their chic seasonal designs, and feel good knowing you made it a priority to put other people first — and get cute shoes.

3. Give Back to Schools With Office Depot and Office Max

Everybody has to buy school supplies, and there's no better place to buy them this season than Office Depot/Office Max. For every dollar you spend on school supplies, 5 percent will be donated in free credits back to your school. The best part? If you've already purchased your school supplies, it isn't too late to earn those credits! Fill out this form to request the credits be sent to your school retroactively. All you need is your school I.D. — and a little school spirit! Just think of all the cool things your teachers can use to bulk up their classrooms now.

4. The Ralph Lauren Children's Literacy Program

Launched this month by Ralph Lauren, The Ralph Lauren Children's Literacy Program aims to support children's literacy and education worldwide by donating 25 percent of the purchase price of everything sold in the collection. Find all the hottest new school clothes and help fundraise for Reach Out and Read — a Scholastic Corporation program that prepares America's youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to "prescribe" books and encourage families to read together. As they say on their landing page, "Books open windows to the world and have the power to transform lives." Amen.

5. Schoola

You may not have heard about Schoola, but I doubt that that anonymity will last much longer. The thrifty start-up has figured out the perfect fundraising solution for schools — easy, green and requiring incredibly minimal sales-savvy. Schools register with Schoola, parents send in extra clothing as donations, people around the world shop the site for the upcycled clothes and each school gets up to 40 percent of each purchase made. Talk about making a community fundraiser viral. Through Schoola, you can buy an entire new school-year wardrobe and fundraise for your school at the very same time. Take it from Forbes, "Bake-sale cupcakes are nice. But Schoola is better."

6. Goodshop.com

If you plan to buy your Back-to-School supplies and clothes online, you should buy your items through Goodshop.com, an online coupons site that donates a percentage of all qualifying purchases straight to the nonprofit of your choice. The site lists thousands of coupons, is hooked up with just as many nonprofits, and works with all of the Goodshop merchants to ensure each purchase you make gets you great savings and earns a donation. Sign up and register your account with your school or an anti-inequality nonprofit near you — then start shopping!

Emily Blunt told to leave America after making jokes about the GOP debate

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Blunt said that after watching the GOP debate, she questioned her decision to become an American citizen and thought maybe she'd made "a terrible mistake."

Unfortunately, the hosts of Fox and Friends were too busy insisting that she should leave the country to see the humor behind her words.

"Let some American women take on the roles that you're getting, because Americans are watching your movies and lining your pockets," offended Fox host Anna Kooiman said on the Tuesday program.

Steve Doocy then added, "You know what Emily Blunt just did? She just Dixie-Chicked herself. She has alienated half the country that now will think twice about going to one of her movies."

Excuse me while I roll my eyes at the dramatics.

Lighten up, people!

Blunt was far from the only one making fun of the ridiculousness that was the GOP debate. I mean, come on, even Donald Trump wasn't taking it seriously. The dude said he wanted his Secret Service code name to be Humble, after all. And not to mention that horrible and absolutely off-base autism comment.

Following the backlash, Blunt apologized for the comment, which she explained was "just an offhand joke."

She added, "I think I'll probably leave the political jokes to late-night or something."

Blunt also stressed how meaningful it was for her to now be an American citizen. "You know, I mean, my two favorite people in the world are American — my husband [John Krasinski] and my daughter. It was kind of a special day."

Do you think Fox and Friends can't take a joke, or are they right to be upset by Blunt's comments?

I stuffed this stew with carrots, potatoes and onions, but it would be awesome with the addition of mushrooms too. Plus you can eat it plain or serve it over lightly buttered noodles. It's delicious both ways.

Matt Damon's apology will likely fall on deaf, overly sensitive ears

Damon controversially argued that diversity should be most importantly felt in "the casting of the film, not in the casting of the show."

More: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon make fun of the NFL (VIDEO)

But his statement, released on TMZ Thursday morning, seemed to attempt to clarify his remarks and apologize for the offense.

"I believe deeply that there [need] to be more diverse filmmakers making movies. I want every young person watching Project Greenlight to believe that filmmaking is a viable form of creative expression for them too," Damon explained. "My comments were part of a much broader conversation about diversity in Hollywood and the fundamental nature of Project Greenlight, which did not make the show. I am sorry that they offended some people, but, at the very least, I am happy that they started a conversation about diversity in Hollywood."

Rather than take his apology with grace and move on, however, now the critics are screaming that Matt Damon is taking credit for starting the diversity conversation in Hollywood.

Which, clearly, wasn't what he was trying to say at all with his last sentence.

I'm convinced he is very aware of the importance of the conversation and its ongoing prevalence in the community. What I'm sure Damon meant was just that this incident fueled the continuation of the discussion, which should always be an important part of the way we look at what films are being made and why.

Reading into Damon's statement and drawing conclusions from it that are clearly just trying to take his apology and turn it in to something ugly and untrue is just downright mean. And it makes those critics even worse than Damon, who is trying to do right by saying he simply misspoke and was taken out of context.

More: Matt Damon: Angelina Jolie is the sexiest woman on earth

Unfortunately, Damon's situation is far from an isolated incident as of late. We seem to live in a society that loves to nitpick at everything that everyone in the spotlight says. Emily Blunt comments on the GOP debate and we're all up in arms because she's British. Stephen Amell defends Texas after a teen was controversially arrested and suddenly he's alienated from peoples' worlds. Jessica Simpson brags about her hubby and is branded as insecure.

And those are all just examples from the past few days.

Tomorrow, we will have forgotten all about Damon's ill-thought-out remarks and be on to the next scandal of some poor celebrity who said something incorrectly that he or she didn't ever intend to be offensive.

How long can this go on? It honestly just makes me feel exhausted. And sad that we live in a society in which, as intrinsically imperfect humans, we are no longer allowed to make mistakes — even though they're inevitable — without a barrage of hate haunting us.

We're all human. We are all going to make mistakes. Really stupid ones. And then we apologize, learn from them and move on. Most of us, however, are just extremely lucky that our mistakes don't live to haunt us forever on the Internet. Those in the spotlight deserve the same respect.

I'm absolutely not suggesting that we stop the diversity conversations. Just the opposite. They are an extremely important and vital part of making our world a better place. But there is a difference between furthering a discussion in a productive way and beating someone down.

More: Matt Damon and other smart and sexy male celebs

Think twice before you bash someone online. Consider their intentions. Were they really saying these things because they wanted to be an ignorant, hateful human? Very rarely is the answer to that question "yes." And very rarely are people trying to not do good in this world.

Damon is clearly among the good guys trying to make the world a better place. Cut him some slack. Focus on making your own actions in kindness rather than pointing the finger at others. And when the inevitable slip-up happens in your life, apologize, move forward and pray you don't get the same hurtful response Damon received.

Chad Michael Murray Scream Queens casting news is super disappointing

More: Scream Queens: Proof Emma Roberts is the next Cher Horowitz (PHOTOS)

Per Entertainment Weekly, Chad Michael Murray is coming to Scream Queens. That's right; Lucas Scott from One Tree Hill just scored a guest-starring role on one of the most highly anticipated new shows. He will play Brad Radwell, the older brother of Glen Powell's character Chad Radwell and Patrick Schwarzenegger's character Thad Radwell. Brad is also a Hollywood talent agent. If you didn't notice, yes, their names are Brad, Chad and Thad.

Anyways, this casting news is both exciting and extremely disappointing. Per the former, who doesn't want to watch CMM strut his stuff on TV? He's been one of my favorite actors ever since his OTH days. I also can't get enough of him on Agent Carter.

However, he's only slated for one episode, TV Line reports. I repeat — he will only appear in one episode. What's that about? I get that maybe he only has time to film one episode, especially since he's currently filming Agent Carter. I understand his schedule is super busy. I would just like to see Murray more than once. With that said, there is a good chance he could come back as Brad.

More: Scream Queens' new teaser reveals exciting new twists (VIDEO)

This is where my disappointment (and fear) continues, because I have a feeling Brad might be killed on Scream Queens. The show is about a killer on a college campus, so there's a good chance Murray's character won't last long, which might be the answer to why he's only booked for one episode.

Whatever the case, I really hope that's not the case, because the more Murray pops up in shows that I watch, the better. I mean, who doesn't want to see this on their TV screen week after week?

See? He's adorable. He's romantic. He works out. CMM is a very versatile actor, which is just another reason Scream Queens should keep him around for more than one episode.

Lisa Rinna's husband presented her with a life-changing ultimatum

That is, if her husband hadn’t had a change of heart about the reality TV drama. As one of the newer cast members, we are now learning she almost lost her husband to make her reality TV debut happen at all.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Rinna said, "Before Season 5 started of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, I had a meeting with the producers to do maybe another show. What came out of the meeting was, maybe I should do The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills."

More: Yikes! Lisa Rinna's lips were getting hard

Which would have been all fine and dandy, if she could talk her husband into it. She continued, "I thought, 'Oh God, Harry’s never gonna go for this. He never will.'"

And she was — kinda — right.

More: RHOBH's Kim Richards' sentence for hotel incident leaves fans disappointed

Her husband, Harry Hamlin, balked at the idea and was initially vehemently opposed. He gave Rinna an ultimatum: me or the show.

She recalls him saying, "Nope. I'll divorce you. If you do it, I’ll divorce you.'" She remembers responding, "'OK, done. No more conversations, done.' Walked out of the room, that was that. I was fine with it."

But it seemed that with some soul-searching, Hamlin came around. Rinna said, "He comes back to me in like two days, and said, ‘You know, I've thought about it, I've done some research.' Harry being a really, really smart businessman himself, said, 'It's a good thing, it'll work for you, you should do it.'"
