Kendall Jenner's nipple piercing is a hit with her young fans (PHOTOS)

Jenner took a page out of her sister Kylie's book by getting her nipple pierced, and she hasn't exactly been trying to hide her new body modification during New York Fashion Week.

Several media outlets have been kind enough to oh-so-subtly point out the newly installed hardware.

While a lot of the media seems to think that Jenner's piercing is some kind of scandal, most Kardashian fans who are around the same age as the 19-year-old model gave her a virtual fist bump via Twitter.

Even more social media users are trying to figure out what the big freakin' deal is, considering nipple piercings exploded onto the scene back in the '90s and have kind of, sort of, remained en vogue ever since.

'Graffiti grannys' may be the best thing you've seen on the Internet all day

An organization in Lisbon, Portugal, called LATA 65, is helping over-65ers get their creative juices flowing. The group offers workshops that aim to educate elderly people about street art. According to The Guardian, the idea behind LATA 65 comes from architect Lara Seixo Rodrigues and street artist Adrião Resende, with the help of 65-year-old Luísa Cortesão.

Seixo Rodrigues revealed that, in 2011, she started organizing a street art festival in her hometown, Covilhã, where she noticed that the elderly were interested in urban art.

"Each year we ran the festival I noticed it was the older people, not the younger ones, who were really engaged," she told the publication. "They were our companions at all hours, day and night, asking us questions about how it was done and commenting on what the paintings represented. I realised there was a real interest in street art among this age group."

Though the group of 11 elders is called "grannies," there are actually some men involved — reportedly three of them — along with the eight women. The oldest participant in the group is 90-year-old Isaura Santos Costa, while the youngest is 59.

Over the past three years, the group has been organizing workshops across Portugal, and it has plans to expand and start workshops in São Paulo, Brazil.

I love this idea and think it's a great way of bridging the gap between an urban art form that is often favoured by the youth and teaching the older generation a new artistic technique — it also proves that age is just a number.

Andy Cohen leaves volatile ex-RHONY star out of 100th episode tribute

For the 100th episode tribute being hosted by Andy Cohen on his show, Watch What Happens Live, Cohen decided to skip inviting Jill Zarin to reminisce about the Housewives' favorite feuds and memories. Fans are not happy about the fact that Cohen did invite his buddy Bethenny Frankel. One said, "If you’re going to do a show revisiting the years of the New York ladies, you need to address the epic Bethenny Frankel/Jill fight and you need to get more than just Bethenny’s side."

Another commented, "It’s unfair and Jill is baffled as to why Andy is holding a grudge. She would have been happy to have been interviewed."

More: New reports state Heather Thomson quit RHONY to save her marriage

Well, Zarin is brushing that dirt right off her shoulder. The New York Daily News caught up with her at New York Fashion Week and her rep said, “Unfortunately, she’s working on a movie now, and the movie studio prohibits her from talking about anything Housewives. She’s actually an actress now! She has a new movie coming out in October."

Not only can she not talk about the reality show, but her rep said the movie studio prevented her from talking about Frankel, too. And while that sounds a little fishy to me, good for her for moving on and making moves.

More: Bethenny Frankel reveals how Jill Zarin failed to villainize her (VIDEO)

And if you’re wondering if Frankel even brings up her feud with Zarin, the NY Daily News mentioned they have seen Cohen’s show and said Frankel had this to say about her frenemy: "I was like, 'Whoa. This is one cunning bitch.' It was clear that she wanted people to hate me, and it completely backfired… Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered, and that’s how it goes."

Wow. That is an interesting analogy.

The tribute show, which will air Thursday night, includes current and former Housewives Kelly Bensimon, Aviva Drescher, Dorinda Medley, Sonja Morgan, Carole Radziwill, Kristen Taekman and Heather Thomson.

As for Zarin, she got around her rep by tweeting a little shade for her former "friends," saying, "'Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.' Helen Keller."

Irwin, who is competing for the mirror ball with partner Derek Hough, said that her dad, the late conservationist Steve Irwin, would have been over the moon to see her on this new television adventure.

"I wish he was here and could be a part of this," Irwin told InTouch. "But I believe he'd be happy and proud that I'm trying something out of my comfort zone."

In fact, she said, her drive to be successful on DWTS comes directly from him.

"Life was filled with adventure," Irwin said. "And like him, I'm very passionate and determined. And of course, working with animals is in my DNA and always will be."

Go from pessimist to optimist in 5 easy steps

$
0
0

I have certainly been guilty of pessimistic thinking at various points in my life. The negativism is really a defense mechanism designed to prepare you for the worst so you won't be blindsided should it happen. However, while that may sound like a smart plan, it's no way to live your life, especially when optimists are scientifically proven to be happier and healthier overall. They get depressed less often, tend to make more money and do better at work and in relationships.

More: 12 Incredibly American habits that make the rest of the world hate us

If you find you're bumming your friends out by always throwing a wrench (that you might call "logic" or "reality") into a positive statement, you're probably a pessimist. But don't worry. Pessimism doesn't have to be your permanent state of being. There are a few small changes you can make in your everyday interactions that will move you closer to the optimistic end of the spectrum.

1. Don't try to make yourself be happy

Image: Giphy

That's like trying to make yourself fall in love — it's not possible. Dr. Suzanne Segerstrom, an optimism researcher at the University of Kentucky and author of Breaking Murphy's Law, says, "To truly be happy, you have to stop trying." She says the best thing you can do is find a way to be constantly engaged in something. If you're engaged, you can't "ruminate," which is psychologists' term for obsessing over little problems and concerns, making them appear worse than they are. You're essentially trying to break your worst-case-scenario pattern by giving your brain something else on which to focus. The trick is it has to be something that takes your full attention so bad thoughts don't creep back in.

2. Make worst-case scenarios seem ridiculous

Image: Giphy

The next step up from ruminating in a pessimist's brain is jumping to the worst-case scenario. Example: You have a pain in your head that's slightly different than a headache, and you automatically assume it's a brain tumor. The medical term for this is "catastrophizing," which essentially means escalating troubling things until they are category-5-hurricane-level bad. The worst part of the ruminating-catastrophizing combo is that it somehow convinces you that your worst-case scenario is not only logical, it's inevitable.

More: 10 Influential women we could all learn a thing or two from

Karen Reivich, Ph.D., co-director of the Penn Resiliency Project at the University of Pennsylvania, says that to break this vicious cycle, try exaggerating those scenarios until they're totally absurd. She told Prevention, "At some point you think, 'Oh, come on, now. Am I really going to be living beneath an underpass in a refrigerator box because I'm a day late on a project?'"

Essentially it's all about taking control of the situation, saying it doesn't govern you, but that you govern it.

3. There's an explanation for everything

Image: Giphy

Pessimists tend to blame themselves or say "obviously" when things go wrong. Optimists, on the other hand, see bad outcomes as having little or nothing to do with them. This is why they do so much better when they're dealt huge blows, like finding out they have an illness. Unlike pessimists, they take the blame off of themselves and focus on getting better rather than assuming they're going to get worse.

This one's a bit harder because it's a knee-jerk reaction sometimes, but one thing you can do is try to not immediately go for the negative scapegoat. Instead, really think about all the angles of what just happened before explaining it away, and see if you can find the lesson or something OK about what just happened.

4. Never give up

Image: Giphy

Pessimists have a tendency to give up when something gets hard or frustrating, whereas optimists work much harder and naturally reap the benefits of that extra effort. The only way to really get around this one is to think like an optimist. I know, I know... You're probably thinking, "Well, if I could do that, then I wouldn't be a pessimist." But hear me out. If you can essentially fake it till you make it, you might actually trick yourself into becoming an optimist, at least temporarily. This trick has been shown to have instantaneous effects on people's emotional states, and the more you do it, the better it works.

More13 Side-eye GIFs for when you just can't even

5. Find an optimist friend

Image: Giphy

If you're having trouble with the "fake it till you make it" thing, then try befriending or even dating an optimist. Their positive energy and support will rub off on you, and you'll start picking up their good habits. The relationship itself will also act as an emotional boost for you, which should work as armor against any negative feelings that pop up.

Hand-pressed highlights trend is like screen printing for hair

$

It's art. It's hair dye. It's the coolest trend in hair since ombré. It's hand-pressed highlights! And all you need to get started are a piece of plexiglass and a putty knife. Wait, what?

Redken colorist Chiala Marvici came up with the dreamy new highlighting technique in — where else? — a dream, telling Marie Claire, "I have a painting in my apartment that a friend did for me a while ago that has a lot of colors on it, and I fell asleep one night and dreamt of all these layers of paint living together on one surface. When I woke up, I thought about how beautiful that would be on the hair and how I would translate that vision onto the hair."

Marvici starts by painting a picture on a piece of plexiglass using the colors she wants for her client's hair. Once she's satisfied with all the swirls, spots, and squiggles, she lifts up a section of hair and places it over the painted glass. She then uses the putty knife (you know you were dying to see how that worked in!) to press down on the hair, saturating it with dye. Lastly, she slides the glass out slowly from under the hair, mixing and blending the dye as it goes. And no worries, the art doesn't transfer exactly to your hair, instead giving you a unique and subtle pattern.

Hand-pressed hair instagram

While this all sounds fun, the real genius behind hand pressing is how much time it will save you in the stylist's chair. Traditional methods like balayage (where the colorist paints on individual highlights with a brush) and foil wrapping (where individual strands are colored and then wrapped in foil) can be pain-staking and time-consuming — usually taking 45 minutes to an hour, plus processing time. But hand pressing only takes a mere five to 15 minutes, Marvici says, getting you out and on with your day much faster.

But now for the important question: How does it look?

Hand-pressed hair video

Pretty darn gorgeous, I'd say! Whether you're a blondie, a redhead or a brunette, this technique will give you shimmery, natural highlights. And hey, you can always use the plexiglass as wall art when you're finished!

It looks like Disick was confused by the presence of other people at the car and thought it wasn't actually his, but when the bouncer said it was definitely his ride, he agreed to get in on one condition: He rides shotgun.

Of course, it could also be a big act and maybe Disick was trying to cover up the fact that he was busted leaving the club with two women who definitely were not his baby mama.

But it might not be Kourtney whose opinion he fears. The reality star is reportedly dating model Makayla Yarbrough after meeting in Vegas a few weeks ago.

"They met during one of Scott's Las Vegas appearances a few weeks ago, and they've been partying together every since," a source told Star magazine. "She's already inserted herself into Scott's life in a big way."

"I'm really getting a lot figured out here," Leah explained. "I'm learning so many coping skills. I'm actually glad I did this. Maybe the hardest thing I've ever done in my life."

As we reported, Messer's divorce was actually finalized in June, which is when the episode was taped.

"Leah participated on the phone from rehab," a source told In Touch Weekly. "They had an uncontested divorce. The terms, including a custody arrangement for Adalynn, were agreed upon prior to the hearing. It was all over in about 15 minutes."

Southern Charm fans think Dennis & Ravenel's pregnancy is a horrible idea

More: Despite the odds, one Real Housewives star's marriage is still going strong

It has been a short and ridiculously bumpy road for Southern Charm's seemingly mismatched couple, 24-year-old Kathryn Dennis and 53-year-old Thomas Ravenel. The pair had two breakups (that we know of) and one pregnancy scare under their belt by the end of Season 1, and at the beginning of Season 2, which premiered in March 2015, Dennis had given birth to the couple's first child, Kensington. By the end of Season 2, Dennis and Ravenel were once again living apart.

Yesterday, Dennis and Ravenel confirmed that they were expecting a boy. The announcement is being met with disdain, to put it mildly.

Cast member Patricia Altschul, who has made her less-than-ecstatic feelings about Dennis and Ravenel known on the show, tweeted the Daily Mail article about Dennis' pregnancy, complete with an unflattering photo of Dennis confronting Ravenel on the show's reunion episode.

Altschul also retweeted a fan who quoted her when she referred to Dennis as a "shameless strumpet" during the show's second season.

Ravenel has talked about marrying Dennis in the past, but it seems like the couple's drama has erased that option, and while they claim to be "just friends" now, it's obvious that more has been going on. 5 Law and Order cases we would have ruled differently

$
0
0

Here's how it works — You the Jury essentially delivers on the implied promise of its name by making you the jury. A live, non-fictionalized version of NBC's beloved long-running Law and Order franchise, the one-hour docuseries allows the audience to determine the verdict of live court cases.

More: VOTE: Who is TV's best female detective?

While NBC has yet to release many details on what kinds of cases we the audience will weigh in on, we do know it won't be murder trials. Viewers will also have the chance to vote at various points during each episode as to the "veracity of witnesses and persuasiveness of evidence."

This got us thinking. If we could go back in time and apply the principles of You the Jury to some of our favorite Law and Order episodes, would we have done things differently? Would we have changed the outcome of certain trials? You betcha. Here are some standout verdicts we'd veto.

1. "Forgiving Rollins"

Law and Order: Forgiving Rollins

Law and Order: Forgiving Rollins

It took a while for us to warm up to Detective Rollins, but now that we have, we can't imagine the team without her. Not to mention, learning about some of the trauma in her past really helped to give us a different perspective of her. A huge part of that past — and trauma, of course — was her former boss in Atlanta, Deputy Chief Patton, a misogynist who very clearly subscribed to the boy school of thought and who raped Rollins at one point. So when Patton's new protégée, Detective Reese Taymor, came forward to reveal he raped her, we felt for sure he was finally going to get his comeuppance. Instead, he gets a proverbial slap on the wrist: In return for pleading guilty to sexual abuse in the third degree and being added to the sex offender registry, he doesn't serve any time in jail. If we had our druthers, though, we would have pushed for the maximum sentence for the crime. Raping two women definitely deserves time in jail and abusing your power as a veteran cop should come with dire consequences.

2. "Selfish"

Law and Order: Selfish

Law and Order: Selfish

OK, so we're wading in treacherous waters here, because this episode centered on the hot-button topic of childhood vaccines. When a young mother (played memorably by Hilary Duff) covers up the unexplained death of her child out of guilt and fear that she somehow caused it, it seems like an open and shut case. Until, that is, the medical examiner pinpoints the cause of death as measles. Ultimately, it's traced to the son of a well-known anti-vaccination mom who took her kid to the park to play despite him having just gotten over (or so she thought) measles. This directly resulted in the death of the young child. However, the non-vaccinating mother gets off scot-free, blaming the young mother for her own daughter's death on the way out. In the end, this leads to another death... the death of the little girl's grandfather. Because the anti-vaccinating mother knew her son was just getting over measles, she should have been held responsible in some way. Negligence? Reckless endangerment?

3. "Devastating Story"

Law and Order: Devastating Story

Law and Order: Devastating Story

What happens when someone entrusted with the impressionable minds of young people chooses to bend their influence for an agenda? That's the heart of the matter in this tragic episode. In a story ripped straight from the headlines, a freshman at Hudson University comes forward saying she was sexually assaulted by her date and three of his friends. The girl, Heather, is joined at the station by her women's studies professor. The story goes national when it airs on America's Worst Crimes, fueling fervor and turning Heather into the self-professed "face of a movement." The hockey players she accuses deny the sex wasn't consensual and it later comes out some of of them are telling the truth. So, the case gets dropped, despite overwhelming evidence against one of the guys. So, here's what we would have liked to see: some sort of charges levied at the women's studies professor, who goaded Heather into fabricating the story in the first place.

4. "American Tragedy"

Law and Order: American Tragedy

Law and Order: American Tragedy

Since this is a murder trial, we technically wouldn't be able to weigh in on this kind of case via You the Jury. But, still, we can't get it out of our heads, so it bears mentioning. At the start of the episode, we see the detectives on the search for a serial rapist. Unfortunately, they have little evidence and the only description they have is "young black male." While they try to close in on they perp, they wind up at Jolene Castille, a wealthy restaurateur/TV personality who'd just shot a young black man. She claims it was self-defense, but the audience soon learns she has a history of racism and her story doesn't add up. Nevertheless, the jury finds her not guilty. But the truth is, murder is murder and it should be treated as such — particularly since the young black man had a clean past and there was no evidence he was guilty of anything other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

5. "Pornstar's Requiem"

Law and Order: Pornstar's Requiem

Law and Order: Pornstar's Requiem

When a porn star is violently raped, many people involved with the case have trouble separating what she does from the assault. One of the young men accused of raping her even goes so far as to say he didn't think you could rape "a girl like that." Still, after seeing the brutal manner in which the girl, Evie, was assaulted, the jury comes back with a logical verdict — the main suspect is found guilty of rape. Then, the shocking twist: The judge overturns the ruling, saying he couldn't conclude Evie's "no" was a true no. (What?!) Broken, Evie goes back into adult entertainment. The boys who raped Evie both merited a guilty verdict and the judge should have been slapped with a judicial misconduct charge.

Was Face Off's Jasmine Ringo angry to be booted before others who were consistently ranked worse?

$

SheKnows: What was going through your mind becoming the first-ever Face Off Gauntlet victim?

Jasmine Ringo: I think I can speak for everyone and say we were all really shocked and really scared and kind of overwhelmed with it. It was tough. It was basically three Foundation-style challenges. Those are really hard. To do makeup on a whim without being able to sit down and really plan it out like we usually can for the Spotlight challenges, you kind of succumb to pressure. I think, finally at that point, the pressure had all kind of got to me. If you can't think clearly, you kind of resort to your old ways. I think that's what happened for me. What ultimately could have been my downfall, based on the judges' critiques, was falling into my old-school body painting techniques. They didn't really want to see that. It is what it is. They did the process of elimination in a very new, weird way. I don't really know how they broke down who was first through ninth place for each one because we really didn't see that. Yeah, it's all kind of weird, different and interesting.

SK: When you landed in the bottom looks after Stage 3 of The Gauntlet, were you confident in your makeup? Did you think you were safe?

JR: I was really shocked when I saw my name in the bottom three at the very end. The work that I had done in the previous two stages was consistent. They weren't the best of everyone, but they definitely weren't the worst. The critiques that I got from the judges were actually really positive. Again, that was something that wasn't aired on the episode. So I was confused when I saw that. I had gotten nothing but great feedback. When I saw my name on the bottom three, I was like, "Whoa, I'm lost." When we had the opportunity to stand in front of the judges and hear what they thought about the final challenge, it made sense to me why they didn't love my hero character. I felt the same way. However, some of the criticism about the background characters I didn't agree with. At the end of the day, it's not about my thoughts. It's about their thoughts. It's a fun game. It was really fun and I was excited to do it regardless. I was definitely shocked. I didn't think I would go home. I took it with a grain of salt.

SK: Reaction to your elimination on social media was intense. Many fans were upset that you were eliminated. What is your take on the fan disappointment?

JR: It was really sweet. It was really nice. This was the one episode, of course, as any previous Face Off contestant has gone through that has been eliminated, it's the one that we dread. We don't know how people are going to take it. I'm not expecting everyone to cry for me and mope and go on and on and on about how I should have moved on. I'm not expecting that. But, the positive way of how people were expressing [their disappointment] to me was really sweet. I love that. Majority speaks, I guess, sometimes, too. Sure, I would have loved to have the judges save me, but at the end of the day I still am really, really excited about everything that I've done. I don't regret anything that I've done. I grew immensely. I still have so much growing to do as an artist and I'll continue to do that as long as people want to continue to follow and see what I do.

SK: On the flip side of that, some fans were arguing somebody like Meg, who has consistently been in the bottom looks, should have been eliminated instead of you. What's your take on that?

JR: I don't know. I wish I knew the secret answer... I think after it's been nine seasons now, I think we can all agree that the judges don't base their decision off of everything you've done previously. We, as humans, naturally do that. We hold everyone accountable for everything they've done before. It's very different. Everyone wants to look at the TV and yell, "You've been in the bottom so many times and should leave." Granted, that seems like a duh by process of elimination, but for the judges, that's just not how they work. They love to spin curveballs. It is what it is. For reasons why they want to keep people on there, that's for them to decide.

SK: Did the elimination question brought up by viewers cross your mind?

JR: As to why they would pick somebody who had been in the bottom? Yeah. Of course. It makes you question yourself. If I've only been in the bottom once, what if I've never been in the bottom before? Sometimes that's happened. People have been sent home before that had never been in the bottom. Everyone is screaming at the TV like why the hell aren't you sent home? It's what keeps people on the edge of their seat. I never look at it more than the fact that it's a fun reality show. I don't hold judgment toward any of the other contestants because of that. They didn't make the decision. It's the judges. I have to respect that. It is what it is.

SK: In the first stage of The Gauntlet, it appeared you had misunderstood the concept of the exposure challenge. What exactly happened? Was that portrayal of events entirely accurate?

JR: It was funny. I wish they would have had a camera on me when they were judging the first couple of people on the desert side. They started down at the end with Evan. I hear their criticism and I'm instantly like, "Oh, shit. What did I do wrong?" I thought about it and when they came over we had a long talk about it. The judges were there for probably 10 or 15 minutes discussing it because even they were confused. You saw that part where Ve was asking me, "What exactly were you told?" I said, "We were told that it was an exposure challenge. They didn't emphasize weather..." I think what happened with me was I looked over at Evan and I looked over at Stevie and I said, "I don't want to do what they're doing. I want to do something different." Exposure could be a poisonous insect. That could be a poisonous plant. I had a really fun story about how he had been infected. They [the judges] really loved everything I did. Glenn loved my prosthetic. Neville loved my airbrushing. Ve loved my paint job. They said, "We love everything about this. However, it may impact where you rank because you didn't necessarily follow the guidelines." They went and double checked what those guidelines were. I guess I blanked out. I didn't stop to ask anyone because I didn't think the emphasis was on the weather element. It was partly my bad. That's what happens. You blank out. When you're under that kind of pressure, you just totally blank out. I blanked out. I thought I was going down a cool, different road. Did I hate the makeup? No. Did they? No, not at all. They actually loved it a lot. It just didn't fit the criteria. I kind of had to take one for the team, I guess.

SK: How did you become a contestant?

JR: I've followed the show from the very beginning and was hooked completely. At that time, I was not doing effects at this level. I've been a beauty makeup artist for 14 years. I was doing face painting and body painting. I was into it. I understood what effects was, but I didn't have the access to it. So I did a lot of self-teaching over the years. One day, Rod Maxwell from Season 3 came into my store looking for makeup and we got to talking. We totally hit it off and he became my mentor. He really helped me learn effects and take it to that next level. He loved where I was as an artist already. He loved all my artwork. He was like, "You should really go audition for Face Off." I was like, "No. You're crazy." He's the one that dropped my name to the crew. I got the phone call from them. He really kind of pushed me along. That's how that door opened for me.

SK: Being a longtime fan of the show, what was it like finally getting to experience it?

JR: Oh, my God. It's literally the best experience of my life thus far. It was so amazing and overwhelming. I wish I could live that life every single day having that amazing lab to work in. Working with the whole crew of people that I worked with was the most warming, welcoming people. I learned from every single one of them... we wanted everyone to succeed no matter if we were competing at the end of the day. That was really the best part about all of it. The production crew, the judges, they were the best sort of people to be around. It was really a dream come true.

SK: Is there a specific film or character that motivates or inspires your makeups?

JR: I am a really big Harry Potter nerd. I would say that the ultimate type of makeup that I would love to get into is the hyper-realism work. The Gringotts goblins are some of my favorite makeups I've ever seen. I love the fantasy creature element. That's something I always try to tie in to my work. I am very fantasy. That's the core of what my work is. I just love the idea of creating something out of nowhere; a loving world that has a little mystery and dark beauty to it.

More: 23 Muggles that got the most magical Harry Potter tattoos

SK: What didn't viewers get to learn about you?

JR: There are tiny little glimpses of the goofiness you get from me. When I work, especially in that type of genre, I get into a British accent a lot. I do everything with a British accent. It's just a weird tick that I have. Ultimately, yeah, I'm really, really silly. When I left, I thought about that. Am I gonna come across as this really quiet type of person? I was nervous and I became very reserved once I got there, which is not like me. I'm usually the loud person. I'm usually the opinionated person and really silly. When I got there and we were filming all the time, I dialed it down because I was worried about how that might come out. I didn't want it to come out and look ridiculous. I wanted to be taken seriously for the work I was doing. I am overall happy with the way I was portrayed.

But the New Zealand makeup artist's documentation of her "journey to health" on Instagram hasn't been without criticism. In July, Anderson posted a before and after picture of her transformation. The jaw-dropping photo earned her plenty of comments from followers claiming she faked the pictures because she had a different hair color in her after photo and she didn't appear to have stretch marks.

More: 7 Details about Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes' 1st birthday party for Esmeralda

Eva Mendes did a Wednesday interview with Wendy Williams, and during their talk, the 41-year-old actress finally explained where she and her longtime boyfriend, Ryan Gosling, got the inspiration to name their daughter Esmeralda. It turns out the unique name was the couple's choice for more than one reason.

"We love The Hunchback of Notre Dame. We loved the name, the cartoon and the novel… it just kind of kept coming back to us," Mendes explained. "It’s actually a very popular Latin name, so it’s easy for my father and certain family members that still don’t speak English to pronounce. That was a good selling point."

Sources close to Mendes and her family recently described little Esmeralda's first birthday party as a close-knit family affair.

"It was a quiet and casual party, not the typical celebrity first birthday blowout with vendors and other celebrity guests," an insider told Us Weekly. "It looked like it was just their simple style and more about family and close friends coming together to celebrate Esmeralda."

Mendes explained in her Wednesday interview how that close-knit family has allowed her to continue working and raise her daughter without a nanny.

"I’ve never appreciated my family so much," she said. "They've been amazing. I don’t technically have a nanny, but I do have help. I’m certainly not anti-nanny, you do what you need to do as a parent, but I’m so grateful that I have help with my family and [Gosling's] family."

More: The Big Bang Theory: Season 9 spoilers to hold you over until the premiere

While chatting with Entertainment Weekly, Mayim Bialik opened up about Amy and Sheldon's relationship. More specifically, she came right out and said if they were officially broken up. Per Bialik, "This is not a breakup." Whew! Thank goodness. She added, "My mom kept asking me why all of her neighbors are asking if I’m kicked off the show. [Amy] needs space and the first episode explores how Sheldon deals with that notion."

Even though Bialik assures fans that Shamy isn't over, there will still be a lot of heartbreak and confusion for Sheldon. He's not sure how to deal with it all. "This is really out of his control and that’s definitely not comfortable for him," Bialik said.

Unfortunately, this isn't something he can fix with science and that great mind of his. As executive producer Steve Molaro told EW, "He’s hurt and confused. This is not a science problem that he can solve by thinking about it. He wants to resolve this and doesn’t really know how to."

And for those fans who are not only hoping for Shamy to reunite ASAP but also want a wedding, well, marriage isn't the cards right now. When asked if she thinks they're ready to tie the knot, Bialik said, "Oh heavens, no." She continued, "There’s still a lot to explore for them about what any kind of further commitment would mean, either with intimacy or romance."

Good news: Amy and Sheldon aren't officially broken up. Bad news: it might take a bit for them to reunite.

Another added, "Tonight's List was difficult to watch. Jessica Simpson's fashion line has some really cute [and] stylish pieces but she was very awkward [and] disconnected as a guest. Was something wrong? Where did she keep disappearing to?" referring to the fact that Simpson kept wandering off camera.

Andy Samberg rolling out the red carpet

Andy Samberg rolling out the red carpet

And while we are all waiting in anticipation to see who the big winners are this year, we're equally excited to watch Samberg host, because, let's be real — there's a slim to none chance that the show won't be hilarious because of him.

More: Game of Thrones author calls out Emmys for snubbing 8 shows and one actor

Since we've all got him on the brain, here are some facts and deep cuts we dug up about the comedian to quench your Samberg thirst for a few more days.

1. He got his start as a monkey

Andy Samberg in Monkey v. Robot

Andy Samberg in Monkey v. Robot

Some of the earliest footage of Samberg is him starring as "Monkey" in this experimental video he made with a friend while they were still in college. The song is based on a graphic novel of the same name by author and illustrator James Kochalka, who confirmed in a 2011 interview with A.V. Club that the man in the gorilla suit is, indeed, Samberg.

2. He's an O.G. YouTube star

Lonely Island 2005 video

Lonely Island 2005 video

Long before Justin Bieber was even a wag in his dad's tail, Samberg was collecting fans by uploading videos to the Internet. OK, Bieber was born in 1994 and YouTube was created in 2005, so maybe we're exaggerating a little, but Samberg was definitely putting together skits and videos with his group, Lonely Island, for the social media platform long before The Biebs broke out on YouTube in 2007.

The old-school Lonely Island videos on YouTube are actually what helped him get noticed by the powers that be over at Saturday Night Live. So in a weird way, Samberg opened up some doors for Bieber.

3. Being a fanboy led to his marriage

Samberg married musician Joanna Newsom in 2013. The two met after he took in one of her shows and he called himself a "superfan" of hers in a podcast interview with Marc Maron in 2014.

Behold Newsom's talents as she performs for Dave Letterman back in 2010.

4. He lives in Charlie Chaplin's old house

Samberg and Newsom dropped an estimated $6.25 million in 2014 on a Hollywood Hills mansion that Chaplin himself once rented in the mid-1920s, according to Variety.

The 6,400 square-foot home was sold to actress Mary Astor after Chaplin vacated.

We highly recommend you check out the breathtaking pictures of the mansion here.

6 Easy drinking games that guarantee a memorable girls' night in

$
0
0

Before we get to the games, though, make sure you play drinking games responsibly. Use low-alcohol-level beverages so you can play longer, and if someone starts to get too inebriated, they should switch to something else (and always have a selection of mocktails available for friends who can't or don't drink). And never, ever drink and drive. These games are intended to be played when you're in for the evening and plan to stay the night.

1. Questions

Screw Truth or Dare. We all want the scoop on your personal life. The rules are simple. The host starts by asking a yes or no question of another player, who must answer honestly. The catch is you can't hesitate, laugh, refuse to answer or repeat a question someone's already asked (even of another player — that's right, once a question is asked, it's off the table). The person who answered goes next as questioner, so long as they didn't violate any of the rules — otherwise, they drink, and the original questioner can ask another question of any player, including the one who just drank.

More: If you’re not using your SodaStream for cocktails, you’re doing it wrong

2. Thumbs down

This is an easy one. When no one's looking, the host simply presses her thumb casually against the table. The last person to notice and do the same loses. The fun of this game is no one realizing you're doing it for a bit, so be sneaky. The person the host sees comply first is "it" (meaning it's their turn to be in charge of the thumb).

3. Psychics

You can play this during any sporting event, live awards show… even the political debates. Each player acts as a psychic, predicting what events they think will happen during the show. Three to five items are selected by each player, depending on the length. They write them down on a piece of paper and seal them in an envelope. Multiple players may have the same predictions, which is fine.

During the game, no one can drink their alcoholic beverage unless something happens that someone predicted. But if your prediction comes up, you inform everyone, and they have to drink (if multiple people claim they predicted it, none of those people drink). Once your prediction is known, if it happens again, everyone who didn't make that prediction has to drink. For example, if you predict that during a Washington-Dallas game, they'll reference RG3 by his real name, each time they say "Griffin" in reference to him, the other players must drink. You are allowed to drink if you made the prediction, but aren't required to. Failing to drink when required is punishable by another drink. Drinking when not allowed is punishable by the removal of your drink until the next person finishes theirs.

The foil here is that you can bluff. You can say you predicted something you didn't. The other players must either accept your assertion, or one or more can call you on it. If they call you, your envelope is opened, and if they're wrong, you get to decide whether they have to finish their drink or can't drink the rest of the night, and you get to make your own choice about whether you drink or not for the rest of the night. If you were bluffing, they get to decide for you.

More: File boozy watermelon-lemonade slushies under good reasons to be an adult

4. I never…

Each player takes a turn stating things they've (truthfully) never done. Any player who has done it must drink.

5. FUBAR

This card game has multiple regional variations, and you're welcome to make up your own. But as I was taught, each player turns over a card one at a time and has to take the action that card commands. When you get to the end of the pile, you shuffle and start over (if you dare). The card commands are as follows:

Ace: Take one drink

2: Take two drinks

3: Make another player take three drinks

4: Free "I never" statement to the group (see drinking game No. 4)

5: Take five (make players take a total of five drinks — one drink for five different people, or portion all five out as you choose)

6: Question one player (see drinking game No. 1)

7: Thumb rights (see drinking game No. 2; can be used anytime during play until someone else draws a 7, at which time they get thumb rights)

8: Scatterbrain (say the first word that comes to your mind, and starting clockwise, players must name something that goes with what you said or drink; original player is the judge of what works and what's a stretch)

9: Busta Rhyme (say a word, and go around clockwise, with each player saying a word that rhymes with yours, or they have to drink; if you draw 9, go with "orange" — trust me)

10: Potty/refill/snack/smoke break (can be waived by unanimous vote if all parties agree to drink)

Jack: Males drink

Queen: Ladies drink

King: Everyone drinks 8 ounces (1 cup) of water

More: 20 Skinny cocktails you'll never believe are actually low-cal

6. Taboo

Each player is given a secret card known only to the host and that player at the beginning of the evening. The card will include an action, word or phrase that is likely to be done/spoken at least a few times during the evening, but not something so common as to be overdone (for example, the word "ice," the act of getting a drink, etc.). Each time another guest does that action (the player's taboo), the player must drink. It gets complicated because everyone is drinking all night. Everyone else must try to guess what someone else's taboo is.
