Well now all those girlhood dreams of owning one of the most magical creatures of the land can become a reality — even if it's only in the form of their tears. Yes, there's a company who have bottled up bucket loads of unicorn tears and turned them into a sweet gin liqueur.

I mean, we had our reservations, but upon discovering that each bottle came with 100 percent edible pieces of silver, real silver, our concerns flew out the door. Of course, it would have been nice if they had thrown in a complimentary bag of fairies — fairy dust can do wonders for the soul, it also helps you fly (as anyone who ever watched Peter Pan already knows).

But what do unicorn tears taste like?

According to Firebox, you can expect "big bundles of candied orange peels, flying saucer sweeties and a hint of maple syrup" on the palate. If that's not already enough to make you want to slay herds of unicorns yourself, well, then there's also the deliciousness of juniper berries and cardamom spice elements found in this potion.

Many unicorns may have been harmed in the making of this product, but the tears have magical properties believed to induce euphoria. However, extensive consumption may result in a severe headache and loss of balance — so we recommend only indulging very small amounts at a time.

11 Reasons apples are superior to pumpkins in every way

0
0

It took me a long time to warm up to pumpkin, mostly because my mom would serve us pumpkin soup in the fall. If you're unfamiliar with the dish, it tastes like baby food and looks like baby food after the baby is done with it: It's a sort of orangey-brown color that takes a billion hours to make and about four seconds to discover that it tastes like applesauce that's gone off.

More: 20 Recipes that prove maple brown sugar beats pumpkin spice any day

I've come a long way since those early days of gagging down repulsive squash water, and pumpkin has won me over — as long as it is surrounded by sugar and carbs and never in liquid form.

But still, for my money, apples are where it's at this fall and every fall. Why? Well...

1. Apple orchards > pumpkin patches

pumpkin gif
Image: Giphy

Let's start with the places where each fall food originates: an apple orchard versus a pumpkin patch. An apple orchard is beautiful, what with the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves and the crisp scent of fall air. A pumpkin patch is a flat, desolate place with thick, itchy, fuzzy vines connecting one rotting pumpkin to the next. Also, flies.

2. 2 Words: Caramel apples

Get the recipe: Black poison caramel apples

Apples are great raw, while pumpkins are patently disgusting the same way. Apples are even greater dipped in delicious caramel, while it would be absolutely impossible to dip a pumpkin into caramel, unless you had a sizable vat and ropy biceps.

3. Apples are a portable snack, and pumpkins are a burden you will immediately regret.

exploding pumpkin gif
Image: Giphy

An apple is a light, portable snack that you will not sprain your wrist on when you lift it to your mouth. The same cannot be said of pumpkins, fall's most narcissistic gourd.

4. Apples are also great cooked, while that's only sometimes true with pumpkins.

Get the recipe: Bacon and goat cheese baked apples

Apples are delicious raw, it's true, but they are also delicious baked into a nice pie, or in a warm bread, or mixed into oatmeal or as a muffin. Pumpkins, though? Also great in all of those things, but then someone tries to make it into a soup, and it's all over.

5. Apple slices are great with cheese and wine. Pumpkin slices are great never.

Face it: You are never settling down in front of your favorite show on a cold autumn night with a glass of wine and pumpkin chunks. But you will do this with apples. And you will love it.

6. Everyone in your house will eat apple pie, as opposed to pumpkin pie, which only old people and babies like.

Get the recipe: Caramel apple pie

Apple pie appeals to young and old alike, what with its pretty lattice and flaky crust and dollop of yummy ice cream. Pumpkin pie is only suitable for people who don't like to or cannot chew things.

7. Apples are better in booze too.

pumpkin champagne gif

There is something so, so right about spiked apple cider. But pumpkin juice with vodka? This is where it just starts to feel like people are trying to force it. It's like the bacon craze all over again.

8. Apple crisp is great. You could never make pumpkin crisp.

Get the RecipeMini gluten-free apple crisps

Because pumpkin does not crisp up well. Anything you put cooked pumpkin into basically just turns into a mushy lump. You can't just sprinkle oats on stuff and call it a "crisp." Lookin' at you, Pinterest.

9. Warm mugs of apple-y goodness will not put you into a diabetic coma.

Ahh, a nice mug of apple cider. It does wonders for icy fingers, looks good with a chunky sweater and makes your tummy all warm. It also goes down your throat without leaving a thick film of algae-like pumpkin slime.

10. Apple seeds are totally no big deal.

You know what isn't a big deal? Happening across an apple seed in your apple. You just eat up until you reach the seedy core, and then you toss the whole thing. Before you can even use a pumpkin, you have to scoop out all of its gross guts and then pretend like you like toasted pumpkin seeds, and spend a great deal of time doing that. Or making nut butter.

11. No one Instagrams apple cider ad nauseum

Well, maybe they do, but only because it's awesome, not because they are trying to be the world's biggest cliché.

The threats against Caitlyn Jenner are getting out of control

Caitlyn Jenner is finding out all too well that living out this tumultuous chapter in her life in the public eye is going to be extremely difficult given the vast array of beliefs, from support to condemnation, of her recent and upcoming life changes.

More: Lance Bass shares thoughts on Caitlyn Jenner's gay marriage remarks (VIDEO)

TMZ has reported that Jenner has allegedly filed paperwork asking a judge to formally declare her a woman, but there are a few rather large and pretty scary hitches.

For these petitions to be fulfilled, she will have to submit various histories and personal information, including personal medical data for consideration. She is afraid to provide the necessary health and medical background because she has had or will get threats of physical harm.

More: Caitlyn Jenner labels Bruce a "traditionalist," haters fire back

According to the tabloid website, Jenner has filed legal documents in LA County Superior Court to have her legal name changed to Caitlyn, as well as have her sex changed to female.

The issue with getting these things through the court system is that she is fearful of her personal and medical histories becoming public, and that creates the fear that the threats she already receives will escalate when made public, according to a TMZ source close to Jenner.

During the final episode of I Am Cait, we see Jenner in a celebration and ritual changing of her name from Bruce to Caitlyn. This is a non-legally binding ceremony, though she would obviously like to make things legal. Jenner has on several occasions mentioned that she was fearful of being put in prison in connection with the fatal car crash she was involved in several months ago, and being included in the male population if she were to be incarcerated. So the change is not only symbolic and personal for Jenner, but a safety concern as well.

Derick Dillard shares telling tweet about fearing God

0
0

Dillard is in the midst of a scandal of his own right now. He and his wife, Jill Dillard (formerly Duggar), have been on a mission trip in El Salvador since June with their baby, Israel. The couple asked for donations to help support their efforts. But in only the few months they've been abroad, they've already traveled back to the U.S. twice, plus reportedly paid for Jill's sister, Joy-Anna Duggar, to visit them with a friend.

More: Research on the Duggars' lifestyle and beliefs exposes shocking revelations

Now, fans who donated to their cause are demanding accountability for that money.

And though the Dillards haven't commented at all, either to justify their actions or to explain where that money is going, Derick did have something to say this morning on his Twitter.

Derick Dillard bible verse tweet

Derick Dillard bible verse tweet

Now, this is far from the first Bible verse Derick has shared. But we doubt he chooses them at random. And this one seems especially poignant given the Josh Duggar cheating scandal and the Dillards' current money scandal.

More: The Duggars' lies might go deeper than the molestation scandal

Could Derick be suggesting that he's confident in the way his family is using the donated money? Or is he perhaps using the words to encourage the Duggar family as they navigate through the Josh Duggar scandal?

Perhaps Derick is searching for that "refuge" from all of the hate. Either that or, as the quote suggests, his faith has already provided one for him.

What is safe to assume is that Derick is confident his family will be able to get through whatever hardships they're facing because they fear God.

But maybe he should also fear the public opinion since it is heatedly turning against him as days pass without an explanation for where all the donation money is going.

More: New details in Josh Duggar sexual assault case are beyond shocking

Of course, commenters on our last article about the donation money have pointed out that the parents very well could be funding the Dillards' travel, while the donations are funding their ministry efforts. But without any clear statement from Derick and Jill, the exact use of the money is unknown.

Do you think Derick and Jill owe fans an explanation of how they're spending funds or are they free to use donations for ministry work as they please?

Dan is the proud owner of McAdams Fitness, which offers private and semiprivate training sessions in his "well-equipped facility" as well as online lifestyle coaching, according the company's website.

"My motivation stems from deep-rooted personal passion and concern for people's health and well-being in an increasingly inactive society," Dan writes in his vision statement. "I am not one of those drill sergeant trainers, cracking the whip and barking orders. You will always find yourself in a safe, positive and encouraging environment."

3. He worked in fast food

He may be all about fitness now, but back in the day, Dan worked at McDonald's, just like Rachel and Kayleen, who was a manager at the chain.

"I was not a great employee. I broke the orange juice machine one day," Rachel said of her fast-food experience.

7. He's taken!

Dan got married back in 2013, according to Us Weekly. Big-time bummer, considering he is totally obtainable otherwise.

Kanye West’s last-minute NYFW decision proves his lack of concern for others

Nomad VII streetwear designer Anne Bowen complained that West's last-minute decision to show on Wednesday at noon totally screwed her over, because now no one will go to her show scheduled at the same time.

More: 18 Kanye West campaign slogans that will get him in the White House

"We have been prepping for a year for this at considerable financial, labor- and commitment-cost to our company," Bowen told Women's Wear Daily. "Our show date has been scheduled for months and has been on the Fashion Calendar for weeks. We went through all the proper channels to make this a reality. And just yesterday we learned that Kanye West is having a show at the same time on the same date as ours.

"Kanye knows he is a media sensation and it is just not ethical to do this. It's like we are David and he is Goliath," she griped. "We have put our heart and soul into our show, and should not be stepped on like this."

Bowen said that she is now moving her show to Thursday at considerable expense. "In order for our show to have any significance, we now have to move our date and time which is a logistical nightmare, three days out from our originally scheduled time."

The president of the CFDA, who runs New York Fashion Week, said the organization shouldn't do anything about it because they didn't know about it — in fact, the first he heard was by reading the New York Post. "There was no listing on the Fashion Calendar, and we didn't know about it. We can't avoid conflicts unless we know someone's doing it," said Steven Kolb.

West, who is showing his Kanye West X Adidas Originals Collection (Yeezy Season 2), has not commented on the issue.

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick finally agree on a custody arrangement

According to Radar Online, Kourtney Kardashian and former boyfriend Scott Disick have come to agreeable terms for the custody of their three children.

According to a source close to the family, "Kourtney has granted Scott legal joint custody of their three kids together, but they are still ironing out the visitation rights situation."

More: Kourtney Kardashian now betrayed by an old friend and Scott Disick

The high-profile couple split officially after it was reported that Disick was caught cheating on Kardashian and basically going on a drug and alcohol-addled bender, causing Kardashian to threaten to take full custody of the children, Mason, 6, Penelope, 2, and Reign, 8 months.

Regarding the details of the custody agreement, the source said, "Scott wants to be able to come and get them whenever he wants and that is not something that Kourtney is willing to budge on.”

More: Kourtney Kardashian harshly fat-shamed over new bikini picture (PHOTO)

The source continued, "She already hates that he is asking to take the kids without supervision."

And with all of the alcohol problems and failed rehab attempts recently, who can blame her? The source did say, "She knows that every single time those kids see their daddy he has been sober. Mason does not let anything get by and he tells Kourtney if Scott is acting even a little bit strange."

Even though Disick has, several times, seemed like he wanted to try to mend fences with the mother of his children, Kardashian is holding fast to her split.

Kim Zolciak causes a scene at LAX for a completely understandable reason

0

After a dismal performance, I’m sure all she wanted to do was jet back home to her husband and kids and maybe tuck into a pint of Ben and Jerry’s.

But first she had to get through LAX… and that just didn’t seem to be happening.

In a video caught by a bystander, the 37-year-old mother of six can be seen having an argument I am 100 percent positive every one of us has had with a gate agent, TSA agent or other poor soul at the airport. While you can’t hear everything being said by either Zolciak or the ticketing agents, you can clearly see she is pissed her bags are on one flight, she has been waiting for hours and there seems to be some mix-up with the tickets. She can be heard saying, "My bags are on another flight now because you guys can't understand. That’s a problem for me. I’ve got a lot of money in those bags."

According to TMZ, the Delta employees couldn't find details of either her daughter, Brielle, or her hair stylist's reservations on the flight they were hoping to catch, even though they were inexplicably issued boarding passes.

I don't pretend to understand how the entire airline system works, but that sure sounds infuriating to me.

More: Kim Zolciak slammed for Photoshopping pic to make herself look skinnier (PHOTO)

Honestly, I know, with my short temper, after a bad performance and then hours waiting at the airport, I would have been twice as hard on the employees. After a taxing and patience-trying evening, Zolciak and her entourage did finally get home, only later than they wanted. And, of course, the Don't Be Tardy star took to social media the same way the rest of us would to voice our outrage at what she thought was terrible customer service.

She tweeted, "I'm so done with you @DeltaAssist."

A source close to Gunvalson told Radar Online that the problem started with her frenemy, Meghan King Edmonds.

"Vicki does not need the stress that this season has added to her life," the insider said. "Vicki has not decided yet if she wants to return to the show next season."

In addition to her feud with Edmonds, Gunvalson has had to endure both the death of her mother and her split from Ayers while he has cancer during Season 10.

"You know, she does not need the money," the source said. "Vicki is going to wait until this season is done to sit down and reassess things before deciding if she is going to continue as the longest running housewife of all time."

10 Things everyone should know about technology

0

1. How to set up your computer

Setting up Macs is pretty simple, but less tech-savvy PC users get intimidated by this process because of all the strange-looking connectors, but it's easy. If you're totally lost, have someone show you one time, and as they do, mark the cords so you can set it back up easily if you have to move it.

2. How to download and install software and drivers

Drivers are just software that let other devices talk to your computer, so don't be intimidated. Regardless of the type of software, the instructions may vary by operating system and the program you're installing, but if you read and follow the instructions carefully before beginning, you'll be fine.

3. How to set up email

Setting up your own email is easy. While the exact steps you should take vary slightly depending on your program, in general, you'll need certain information from your email address provider.

  • Email address
  • Password
  • Outgoing (SMTP) port code
  • Incoming (POP3 or IMAP) port code

To get instructions for setting it up in your specific software (called an email client), you can use the software's help section or search for it online.

More: 8 Wi-Fi tips you should be using but probably aren't

4. How to set up and connect to the internet

Setting up wired and wireless routers is essential. Follow the directions that come with your router to the letter, and if you have any problems, most companies offer complimentary phone support for the first 30 to 90 days after your purchase. Make sure you change the name of the device and the password. Also make sure you know how to troubleshoot it in case there are issues.

To log onto wireless internet when you're not at home, you'll need the name of the device and the password (if one is required).

5. How to sync your smartphone or tablet to your computer

Regardless of what kind of smartphone or tablet you have, you can sync it to your computer to back up your data, add or change your music and movies, move files like photos over to your computer for backup and on some platforms, update your software.

6. How to protect your computer (and your friends' computers) from malware and viruses

It's imperative that everyone who uses a computer have antivirus software. For a PC, the type and robustness of antivirus software you need depends on the level of risky behavior (e.g., watching porn) you engage in.

Even though Apple's built-in protections make getting viruses virtually impossible, you can become a Typhoid Mary for PC users. We recommend installing ClamXav — that's what Apple Mail uses, so clearly they're confident in it.

7. How to send files (properly)

Learn to put all your files into a single folder and zip or compress it so you don't jam up people's email or make accessing multiple files a pain. For files too large for email, you should use CloudApp, Box or Dropbox.

More: 9 Apps that help you spy on people and cover your tracks

8. How to back up your computer

An external hard drive is a common way to back up your computer (and store files you can't fit on there anymore). Just make sure if you decide to use it for both, you partition your hard drive. How big a drive you need depends on what you do, but it should be at least a bit bigger than your computer's hard drive.

I like online backup services like Mozy or Carbonite (or one of the file-sharing services above) because you can easily by more storage in a snap, and your data is protected in case of fire, flood or theft.

9. How to find your lost devices

It's easy to lose track of portable devices when you're busy. There are lots of apps on the market, but the most common ones are Find My iPhone and Find My Android Phone. You can also find software and solutions like Prey that will track your computer.

More: 10 Things to know about the new Google Photos app

10. How to secure devices

Your computer's password should be just as difficult to guess (and hack) as your bank password. Also keep your other devices' passwords or passcodes protected. Note that due to a court ruling, it's possible the police can compel you to open your phone with thumbprint access but not an actual code. Not only will using passwords and codes protect your privacy and security, they'll let you control when your kiddos use your devices.

6 Yoga poses for strong abs

0
0

The core muscles help stabilize two of the body's most important structures — the spine and the pelvis — and also help maintain flexibility throughout the torso.

"I've repeatedly observed the importance of strengthening the muscles that are supposed to be supporting the spine and pelvis," says Julie Gudmestad, a long-term lyengar yoga teacher and licensed physical therapist. "Countless studies too have shown that core strengthening is an important component in relieving pain and restoring healthy movement. I could relate dozens of cases with people whose sometimes chronic, severe back pain was greatly improved or even eliminated by strengthening the support system of the core, including the abs."

More: 30 Yoga poses you don't need an expensive studio to teach you

Julie goes on saying that a lot of core strengthening happens without us yogis even being aware of it. "In yoga, the strengthening comes from supporting the weight of our body parts in various orientations to gravity," she says. "Lifting different body parts, be it arm, leg, torso, and so on, in these different positions is going to strengthen a huge variety of muscle groups, according to how gravity is pulling on the body part."

And while it's true that pretty much the entire yoga practice is helping to strengthen your core, there a few specific moves you can do to tighten and tone it even more...

1. Dolphin plank pose

Dolphin plank
Image: Maggie Giuffrida/SheKnows

From plank position, lower one forearm at a time down to the ground, pressing the forearms and elbows firmly into the floor. Firm your shoulder blades against your back and spread them away from the spine, as you spread your collarbones away from the sternum. Try to keep your body in one, straight line — engaging through the core — and gaze towards your fingertips on the floor.

Extra core challenge: While holding Dolphin plank, bring your left knee in towards your left elbow and then step it back to the starting position and repeat on the right side. Continue alternating knees until you reach around 10-12 reps.

2. Side plank

Side plank
Image: Maggie Giuffrida/SheKnows

From a high plank position, lift your hips up slightly, then shift your weight into one hand as you roll your whole body open to the side. Stack your hips, knees and ankles vertically on top of each other. Your shoulders, hips and ankles should be in one, straight line. If you find it hard to balance, try placing your top foot in front of the other on the ground. Reach your top arm straight up, forming a line from your planted wrist through your top fingers.

Extra core challenge: From side plank, lower your body down toward the ground as you hover your hips off the floor. Then, while pressing into the supporting palm and feet, engage through the core and side body as you lift your hips back up towards the sky into side plank. Continue this motion for around 10-12 reps.

3. Downward Facing Dog

Downward dog yoga pose
Image: Maggie Giuffrida/SheKnows

From Downward Dog, raise up onto your tiptoes. And, rolling over them, come into a high push-up position. Hold here for a few deep breaths, making sure your wrists are directly in line under your shoulders, heels are lifted towards the sky and hips are lowered and in line with the rest of your body. Keep your gaze a few inches in front of your fingertips, creating a straight line with your head, neck and back, all the while tightening through the belly and engaging your core.

Extra core challenge: From Downward Facing Dog, raise one leg up towards the sky, coming into a Downward Dog split. From here, round through the spine, pulling your navel to your spine, as you bring your knee in towards your nose. Extend your leg back up towards the sky, and then pull your knee in towards your same-side elbow. Extend your leg up towards the sky one last time and then pull the knee across the body towards the opposite elbow.

4. Boat pose

Boat pose
Image: Maggie Giuffrida/SheKnows

Sit down on your mat with your knees close to your chest, feet planted on the floor. Keeping your body close to vertical, hold behind your knees and lift your feet, bringing your shins parallel to the ground. Keep your hands on the backs of your thighs, or release them, stretching the arms forward. For an extra challenge, try straightening your legs and raising your arms up towards the sky.

Extra core challenge: From Boat pose, extend your legs and arms as you lower your body and hover your chest and legs up off the ground. Hold here for 2-3 breaths, and then re-lift your body back up to Boat. Continue with this hover and lift motion for 5-10 reps.

Boat pose GIF

5. Chaturanga

Chaturanga
Image: Maggie Giuffrida/SheKnows

From a regular or high plank position, begin to slowly lower your torso and legs down to the ground in a straight line, a few inches above and parallel to the floor. Keep your gaze forward and elbows in towards your sides and pointing back behind you, as you draw the pubis toward the navel and broaden the space between your shoulder blades. Make sure to keep the legs engaged and active while holding this pose.

Extra core challenge: Instead of coming into an Up Dog or Cobra pose from Chaturanga, trying holding the hover position for a few more breaths and then pushing back up to plank and repeating 4-8 times.

6. Headstand

headstand
Image: Maggie Giuffrida/SheKnows

Begin on hands and knees, in Table Top position. From here, bring your forearms to the floor and clasp your hands, interlacing your fingers. Keeping your fingers interlaced, open up your palms, creating a basket with your hands where you’ll place your head.

Set the crown of your head on the floor and snuggle the back of your head against your hands. Take a deep inhale and lift your knees off the floor. Staying on the balls of your feet, begin walking your feet closer to your elbows, forming an inverted V. Firm the shoulder blades and lift them towards the tailbone, elongating the front torso. From here, you can choose to raise one leg at a time up and overhead, take both feet up at the same time or even lightly hopping both feet off the floor.

Continue to breathe and engage through the forearms, core and legs as you hold your headstand. Beginners should hold for around 10 seconds, gradually adding 5-10 seconds each time you practice.

Extra core challenge: If you're feeling comfortable and steady in your headstand, try piking your legs halfway down towards the ground, so that they are level with your hips. Hold here for a breath or two and then use your core muscles to relift the legs up to a full headstand. Repeat 3-5 times.

25 Solutions to the dreaded lunchbox problem

0

I cook a great deal, and my kids (thankfully) like to eat leftovers for lunch. But at least once a week, they want something new... and they don't like sandwiches! I use this list of my top 25 lunches to plan my week/month. Pick and choose what you like and use my free menu planner.

My mom always packed me a healthy lunch, and on Friday I was allowed to buy pizza in the school cafeteria. I would usually have a tuna fish sandwich with Swiss cheese on rye bread and an apple, all packed into a brown paper bag. But since my kids don't like sandwiches much, here's my list of 25 healthy lunches they approve.

25 Healthy Kid Approved Lunches:

  1. Apple slices turned into peanut butter sandwiches, carrot sticks, baby tomatoes
  2. Chicken Caesar pasta, homemade pumpkin lunch cookie, strawberries
  3. Apple butter apple wrap with pumpkin seeds, crackers, apple slices, healthy banana oatmeal sponge cake bars.
  4. Chicken soft taco, banana, unsweetened applesauce pouch, mini carrot muffins
  5. Pasta salad with salami and mozzarella, blueberries, baby carrots

7 Details about Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes' 1st birthday party for Esmeralda

But the couple celebrated her birthday just this past weekend — her official birthday was Saturday, Sept. 12 — and we're not even going to pretend our invite got lost in the mail. The event was super exclusive and definitely not your typical Hollywood bash.

More: Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling give baby girl a precious nickname

1. There were about 20 guests in attendance

Us Weekly described the event as "low key," according to sources.

2. Esmeralda celebrated like a normal baby

Rather than go all out with vendors and fancy decorations, Mendes and Gosling opted for the simple life, according to sources. It was more about being with family and celebrating their baby girl rather than an excuse to throw a big bash.

3. Most of the guests were part of Mendes' family

Mendes' mom and sister even arrived to the party early to help set up, sources report.

4. Gosling's sister made the birthday cake

There is nothing better than a homemade cake. And it just makes us love the Gosling/Mendes clan even more that they appreciate those moments and want Esmeralda to have them, too.

5. Her "Happy Birthday" serenade was almost guaranteed to be awesome

In a recent interview with Glam Belleza Latina, Mendes revealed, "Ryan sings to the baby. He loves it. Sometimes he'll make up his own songs and include her name in them. It's very sweet."

6. Some of the gifts included a rocking horse and balls for a ball pit

The selections seems pretty random but, then again, what do you buy a kid who probably has everything she could ever want? And while we doubt Mendes and Gosling are the types to spoil their baby, onlookers reported several colorful packages, as Us Weekly reports, so you know there were some good presents in there.

7. Mendes gave a good idea of what the get-together felt like

Also in her interview with Glam Belleza Latina, Mendes joked that her family likes to take over when they arrive for get-togethers. "They take my baby! They start cleaning everything. They sound like a bunch of hyenas, yelling in Spanish, English, Spanglish. They sing [my daughter] all these Cuban nursery songs that I forgot my mom used to know... I'm so happy that my little girl gets to grow up with this."

Big Brother's Vanessa might have just made the worst move of her game

More: All the reasons why Big Brother's Johnny Mac is a forced to be reckoned with

However, earlier this week when Vanessa put both members of her other alliance, Steve and Johnny Mac, on the block, viewers just thought she was crazy and couldn't make up her mind. Which duo does she really trust and who does she want to go to the finals with?

At the beginning of the surprise live eviction episode, viewers saw Johnny Mac win the Power of Veto, taking himself off the block and forcing Vanessa to put up either Austin or Liz. Since she avoided putting up the showmance in the first place, everyone assumed she would vote to keep Austin if given the opportunity via a tie-breaker. Fans were shocked and thrilled when Vanessa sent Austin out the door.

Vanessa wiped out showmance

Vanessa wiped out showmance

What does Vanessa's betrayal of the showmance mean for her remaining time in the house? As he walked out of the door, Austin told Vanessa that there is no way she can win the game now because he is on the jury. Vanessa can probably count on three votes against her from the jury members, but what about the other members of the jury?

More: 6 Reasons why Vanessa will win Big Brother Season 17

Throughout the season, Vanessa has almost single-handedly masterminded all of the big evictions in the house. One by one, she has sent home people who could beat her either physically or because they were more likable. She helped break up the twins and then split up the big showmance, Austin and Liz. She has definitely played the game and thought through every step.

More: The reasons we think Big Brother's Steve is like The Godfather's Michael Corleone

By breaking up Austin and Liz, Vanessa has given herself the chance to actually get to the final two on the show. Everyone knows that if there were three standing (Austin, Liz and Vanessa) and if it came down to Austin or Liz picking who was going to go with them to the finals, they would pick each other. Vanessa has put all her eggs in Johnny Mac and Steve's basket, trusting that they will take her to the final three and that maybe one of them will take her to the final two. Vanessa made the only decision she could to help give herself a chance to get to the finals.

So, did Vanessa's latest big blindside help her chances of winning Big Brother or did the poker player just gamble away $500,000?

More: 50 Books every child should read

Judy Blume took to Tumblr earlier today for a fan chat in which users could submit questions to their most favorite author, Blume, and she'd spend an hour-ish answering them. Ever the careful adviser, Blume didn't rush through questions to try to get to as many as possible. Instead, she took the time to answer questions thoughtfully and sometimes with a bit of humor. We scoured the answers from the Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret author and found the best advice she gave to her adoring readers.

Kids are getting dangerously drunk on hand sanitizers

Just a few squirts of the "tasty" hand sanitizer was all it took to have her blood-alcohol level soaring to 0.179 — twice what's considered legally drunk in an adult, according to Dr. Chris Ritchey, who treated her in the emergency room at Gwinnett Medical Center. In a CNN article, doctors reportedly had to watch Nhaijah overnight for signs of brain trauma, since the alcohol had caused her to fall and hit her head.

More: 5 Apps that help keep your kids safe

With their fruity scents and colorful packaging, it’s not surprising that poison control centres across the United States have seen nearly a 400 per cent increase in calls about young kids ingesting hand sanitizer.

"Kids are getting into these products more frequently, and unfortunately, there's a percentage of them going to the emergency room," said Dr. Gaylord Lopez, the centre's director, in the CNN article. The amount of alcohol in hand sanitizer ranges from 45 per cent to 95 per cent. Ingesting even small amounts — as little as two or three squirts in some cases — can cause alcohol poisoning. By comparison, wine and beer contain about 12 per cent and 5 per cent alcohol, Lopez said.

Whether these kids are doing it intentionally to get drunk, on a dare from friends or simply because it looks “tasty” doesn’t really matter, because the dangerous consequences are the same, and according to the Ontario Poison Centre, children should be supervised when using it. A single “squirt” should be spread over the hands and then allowed to completely dry. That way the alcohol evaporates, and no further risk of absorption then exists. Licking of the hands after the sanitizer is dry carries no chance of alcohol intoxication.

Google gets personal to announce its refugee crisis donation pledge

The multi-billion dollar tech company will also match the first 5 million Euros (around $5.5 million) in donations made to its refugee crisis landing page. The funds will be split between nonprofit organisations Médecins Sans Frontières (MCF, or Doctors Without Borders), Save the Children, International Rescue Committee and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The announcement was made on the official Google blog, in a post written by Rita Masoud, the Product Marketing Manager for Google.org.

"My name is Rita Masoud and I am a refugee," she said. "I was born in war-torn Kabul, Afghanistan. When I was seven, my family and I fled to Europe with our belongings in a single suitcase, hoping for a safer and better future. Our journey involved many dark train and bus rides, as well as hunger, thirst, cold and fear. Fortunately, we received asylum in The Netherlands, where I grew up in a safe environment and was able to find my way in life. Today, I work for Google in California."

Google's donation-matching announcement comes less than a week after it donated $1.1 million to organisations providing essential shelter, food, water and health care to refugees.

More: British families open their doors to refugees

There were 19.5 million refugees by the end of 2014 (up from 16.7 million in the previous year), said a June report from UNHCR. Half of them were children. Over 4 million Syrian refugees have are displaced internationally, and another 7.6 million people internally displaced within Syria itself. Refugees from many other countries have also fled war and persecution, such as Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Iran.

Google joins other companies stepping up to the mark during the current refugee crisis. Uber launched UberGIVING on September 9, partnering with Save the Children UK to collect donations for refugee children at no charge. Financial giant Goldman Sachs has partnered with UNCHR to donate £2 million to aid refugees stranded in Europe, and J.P. Morgan Chase has pledged to donate up to $2 million through its employees and foundation.

This week the Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening, called on U.K. businesses of all sizes to "play their role" in the country's response to the refugee crisis.

"Alongside the amazing generosity of individuals, I’ve always felt that businesses can also play their role as part of this country’s response to humanitarian crises,” said Greening.

She also praised the efforts of the British public so far, saying: "We’ve given more than £1bn, which makes us the largest donor after the United States. I’ve seen for myself the food rations from Britain that ensure many people don’t go hungry; the classrooms Britain is helping to build and staff with teachers; the medical help and trauma counselling, and so much other work in the region. All of these lifelines simply wouldn’t be there without the British people, without our NGOs, our humanitarian workers, our government, our companies. It’s an amazing team effort that’s having an huge impact and it shows what an incredible country we’re living in.”

Anyone who visits google.com/refugeerelief can donate in increments of $5, $10, $25, $100 or $200.

Who Samantha Bee is and why she's going to outshine late-night's male hosts

0

As a longtime The Daily Show correspondent, Samantha Bee is no stranger to late-night television. In fact, Bee holds the record for the longest-serving The Daily Show correspondent, where she spent nine years in front of a camera, making us laugh with outrageous interviews and hilarious political spoofs.

More: Ask a Raging Feminist: I was treated differently because of my sex when...

And now she's taking her awesomeness to TBS, where she'll become the only woman on television sitting behind a late-night desk.

Are you as excited as I am? You should be.

In his farewell to Bee this past May, Jon Stewart called her "delightful" and "incredibly funny," and then followed those sweet words up with a wickedly funny smash-cut of some of Bee's best (and most biting) interviews. If you aren't familiar with Bee, the clip below will give you a good idea of just how much brilliance she brings to the table.

But as Vanity Fair's recent photo spread of late-night hosts so blatantly illustrated, Bee's about to enter a very testosterone-filled time slot — a fact that she's tackling head-on with some very smart promos. Take, for instance, the first teaser trailer TBS released in May:

With this teaser spot, Bee not only made me laugh out loud, but she actually made me cheer from my couch. Here is a woman not only capable of taking on prime time's "sausage" problem, but totally pumped about doing so and facing it head-on.

Yes, Samantha Bee is about to deliver a funny, intelligent and feminist view of the world to late-night audiences.

Bee responded to Vanity Fair's photo shoot and poorly worded headline — "Why Late-Night Television Is Better than Ever" — almost immediately after it went live with the following two tweets, highlighting the obvious lack of gender diversity in late-night and doubling down on her promise to completely change the score.
