Two of The Voice coaches are rebounding with each other

A source close to the show says that Stefani, who recently announced her split from rocker Gavin Rossdale, and Shelton, who divorced Miranda Lambert earlier this summer, have figured out that misery loves company and have become much more than each other's shoulder to cry on.

"They're really into each other… let's face it, they were both unhappily married when they met," an insider told In Touch, according to Radar Online. "Now their divorce proceedings are something they can talk about and commiserate over."

The source added that Shelton "used to flirt with all the cute girls, but not anymore. All that's changed since they both got divorced… Blake and Gwen have a lot more in common than either of them thought."

More: Gwen Stefani insider reveals how she really felt about Gavin Rossdale

Shelton apparently "is in awe of [Stefani's] career, talent and business savvy" and, when combined with the way she dotes on her three children, sees "Gwen as the ultimate woman."

"And she has been reveling in the attention," the insider added. When they're not together, Blake has been calling her, too. He's even given her some small gifts."

And, of course, this news has surely sent Lambert into a tailspin. "She's always felt like she could never compete with Gwen — this is her worst nightmare," the source revealed.

This seems like an incredibly unlikely couple to us, but stranger things have happened!

Insider claims Jon Hamm was using Jennifer Westfeldt unfairly

0

The self-branded unlikely pair made it official after months of rumors about their relationship ending.

A source has revealed to People that the reasons behind the split allegedly stem from Hamm's "demons" and Westfeldt’s need to "mother him." They said Westfeldt had the Mad Men star on a "tight leash" and that she would "take care of him and support him during difficult times — and after hard nights of partying."

More: Is Jon Hamm stepping out on his girlfriend?

But the source made it sound more like Westfeldt was Hamm's actual caretaker than his partner, saying, "He has always had demons and needed a mother figure in his life. It was generally assumed that they would break up once he got sober because he didn't need to lean on her to take care of him so much."

Ouch. That seems harsh.

Hamm’s "demons" were apparently a bottle and his inability to put it down. Earlier this year, he completed treatment for alcohol addiction, during which Westfeldt stood by and supported him.

More: Jon Hamm's violent fraternity past allegedly revealed in horrifying lawsuit

A source told Us magazine that the pair did "try to work it out" but the problems in their relationship ultimately brought their 18-year partnership to an end. Both are children of divorce and both have in the past associated any problems with the fact that they never "had the greatest examples of marriages" in their own families.

It is surely sad to see a couple together for so long in Hollywood part ways, but the picture painted of Hamm, if true, is certainly one that reveals him to be much more like his onscreen character, Don Draper, than one would hope.

Sister Wives' Kody Brown accused of playing favorites

0

In the comments section of a recent interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Kody was accused of favoritism toward Robyn (as well as of being aloof and unapproachable when encountering fans in public). The commenter alleged that when Kody is seen out of the house, he's usually with only Robyn.

More: Sister Wives' Meri Brown reveals how she really feels about Robyn

It doesn't seem totally unreasonable that Kody would be cautious in public; his family has been known to be subject to a less-than-warm reception in the past. (Remember when they went to the Expo in St. George?) As for the allegations of favoritism, it's undoubtedly the worst fear of all the wives — and also an inevitability. You might not want to admit that you have a favorite child, but you probably like one just a little bit more than the others, sometimes, depending on the day. Robyn is the newest and youngest of the wives and the one with the most reproductive potential, but just because she's been seen in public alone with Kody more than the other wives, it's not an indication that he loves her the most.

More: The Sister Wives family presents an unexpected argument for polygamy

On Twitter, one Sister Wives fan shared a photo of the Browns — all of them — out together. A publicity stunt? Was this meant to thwart allegations of favoritism? Or did everyone just decide to leave the house together that day?

From afar, it's impossible to prove who Kody loves the most, and regardless of how you feel about the Browns, Meri, Christine, Janelle and Robyn are all emotionally vulnerable when it comes to the distribution of Kody's affections.

Fifth Harmony responds to their slut-shamers with an important message

0
0

Most recently, they exhibited this emboldened spirit during an interview with Cosmo for Latinas. When asked if they'd ever found themselves on the receiving end of criticism for how they dress, Fifth Harmony — comprised of Camila Cabello, Lauren Jauregui, Normani Kordei, Ally Brooke and Dinah Jane Hansen — didn't hold back.

"Yeah... it's ridiculous!" said Jauregui. "Just because we dress according to our body types and dress the way that we want to. A woman embracing her sexuality isn't wrong. It's not being a slut."

More: Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans slut-shame Scarlett Johansson's character (VIDEO)

This statement is unequivocally true, obviously, which is why it is so unfortunate the sentiment bears repeating (and repeating and repeating). What's equally disheartening, however, is Kordei's revelation that the backlash they receive comes "mainly [from] women."

While I'd love to say this isn't true and argue that perhaps the derogatory comments lobbed by other women are just more noticeable, I know Kordei's words to be true. As a writer who is part of the public forum, I've been on the receiving end myself and constantly see peers subjected to hateful scrutiny — I'm always, always genuinely shocked that the sharpest barbs (and the bulk of them) come from other women.

When did we stop being on the same team? Was there a memo I missed?

I may have missed that memo, but it's impossible to ignore societal double standards when they rear their ugly, misogynistic heads in situations like this. This frustrates Fifth Harmony, too, as evidenced by Jauregui's impassioned response.

"I've noticed on our video comments. It's people's go-to, to accuse us of the whole 'slut thing.' Then they support men who do the craziest things and say nothing about them. F***ing Justin Bieber... I'm sorry, excuse me. Justin Bieber takes his pants off, posts a pic of it, and it's like, 'OMG, he's so hot.' What.Is.That?! How is this reality? Know what I mean?" she fumed.

More: Fifth Harmony fans freak after Vamps singer slut-shames Lauren Jauregui

Naturally, we do know what she means. It's an imperative point she makes — that the reasons society glorifies men don't hold up when applied across the gender threshold. When men are strong, it's sexy. When women are strong, it's too "butch" (worst word ever) or "manly" (WTF does that even mean?). When men flaunt their bodies, it's a turn-on. When women do so, it's superficial or slutty.

We're constantly being villainized for the very things men are being celebrated for. The fact that relatively young voices in the social fabric of the music landscape aren't afraid to speak out about it breeds hope, though.

Said Cabello, "People aren't getting that it's time to move on and be accepting of other women dressing however they want." Her statement in and of itself illustrates that some people do get it — and hopefully that faction will continue to grow in number and strengthen in resolve.

At the VMAs last weekend, Amber Rose and Blac Chyna furthered the dialogue by foregoing upscale designer dresses and instead rocking, respectively, a custom bodysuit and a gown emblazoned with "slut-shaming" terms women have become accustomed to hearing — words like "whore," "stripper," "ho" and, yes, "slut."

Amber Rose slut shaming

Amber Rose slut shaming

And if you think this issue only pertains to celebrities, you'd be sadly mistaken. In fact, you've probably been slut-shamed yourself at some point. Think to a time you were walking down the street and were cat-called in a lewd manner. At that moment, you very likely became a victim of slut-shaming, because someone made an assumption about you or your character based on the clothes you were wearing. Or perhaps for the confidence with which you carried yourself.

A quick glance at hashtags like #slutshamed and #slutshaming show that women from all walks of life are being subjected to this degradation every single day. Interestingly, I've only come across a few men using the aforementioned hashtags — and they're using them as weapons, not tools.

Supernatural's new teaser drops huge Sam & Castiel spoilers (VIDEO)

0
0

As Season 10 teased, the Darkness is here and ready to wreak havoc on our beloved Winchester brothers and favorite angel Castiel. Actually, it looks like Sam and Cas will be facing most of the havoc, at least based on the trailer. For real, Sam and Cas are going to need a lot of therapy, hugs and a good cry once the Darkness and the spell Rowena cast on Cas is finished with them.

More: Supernatural speculation: Who will and won't return in Season 11?

With that said, the trailer opens up with Sam praying, "If you can hear me, God, we need your help." Man, they must be desperate if they're trying to get God's help. Then, Sam's heard saying, "This is my fault and I don't know how to fix it."

That isn't the worst of it. Sam is shown bloody, gasping for air and being tortured by who knows what. Probably, at least for me, the most disturbing part of the teaser is seeing ominous black veins running down Sam's neck. What. Is. Happening? Is the Darkness inside him? Will he be able to fight it? Are these mysterious veins the new Mark of Cain? Whatever is going on, I don't like it and I'm as scared as Sam looks.

As for Castiel, well, he looks to still be under Rowena's spell. He appears to be going on a rampage, has bloody eyes and is attacking a woman. Like Sam, at some point Cas is being tortured with those large metal spikes on his head. Remember when Samandriel was tortured? Yeah, well, Cas isn't enjoying it one bit.

More: Supernatural finale: Did Sam and Dean just end the world?

As for Dean and Crowley? Well, Crowley survives Castiel's attack and is even dressed as a priest. Wait, what? What about Dean? Well, he looks just as terrified as Sam, but that probably won't stop him from being his badass self. Oh, and I'm glad to see after last season Dean is still his snarky self.

By now, you probably forgot Lindsay Lohan and Duran Duran were working on a song together.

Late last year, Lohan dropped the news on Instagram, when she posted a surprise pic of herself and the legendary band, captioned, "#DuranDuran @alianalohan recording with some greats!!!"

Duran Duran later confirmed, posting the pic to their own account. It's a collaboration we never saw coming, but we'd be lying if we said we weren't stoked to see what would come of it.

And today, we finally did. Duran Duran's new album doesn't officially drop until Friday, but they posted the whole thing to SoundCloud on Tuesday, giving fans a little preview of Paper Gods. And it turns out the album features a whole lot more famous names than just Lohan.

Duran Duran invited a whole list of awesome artists to collaborate on the album, including Janelle Monáe, Mark Ronson, Kiesza, Nile Rodgers, Mr. Hudson, Jonas Bjerre from Mew and ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, as well as Lohan, of course.

More: Why Lindsay Lohan posted a topless Instagram pic (PHOTOS)

Our favorite track has got to be Lohan's, though. On "Dancephobia," a super-high-energy dance track, the actress and singer is featured in a spoken-word verse. Take a listen here.

No word yet on what's next for Lohan's music career, but after a lackluster few years for her own music, it's good to see her owning the scene again with Duran Duran, one of the greatest bands out there.

"A man should never attack a woman like Bobby Davro just did! @F1abraham will stay strong, you watch!" she wrote.

The tweet is in reference to what Abraham seems to think was an attack from Davro during the show's most recent episode.

"The first person I am going to nominate is truly a beautiful woman; however, beauty does not exist totally on the outside. It has to be coming from the inside," Davro said, as he nominated Abraham for eviction from the show. "I might say something that might hurt you, young lady, but I want you to listen. You are possibly one of the ugliest people I have ever had to have the misfortune of sharing my time with. No amount of lip gloss will disguise the ugliness that lives inside of you. I say that because I don’t know your background; I don't know anything about you. Why you have so much vileness inside of you that comes spilling out every time you feel as though you are being attacked. It’s so unattractive. It’s so dreadful to watch. Because I would love for you to be the complete beautiful person that I know you could be if only you would drop your defenses and not attack every time."

This was the first time Davro had lashed out at Abraham, even though in the previous week's episode she brutally attacked him and his wife, saying, "All you do is talk about your wife, but you cheat on her with your f***ing girlfriend because you're such a f***ing bastard. Go f*** yourself. You're a failure to Britain, bitch! Guess what, Bobby? I don't feel sorry for me because I have a great f***ing life. I thought you were supposed to be a comedian. I'm a better comedian than you. I just made you laugh, bitch."

More: Nikki Bella questions her Divas Champion title: Could this be the end? (VIDEO)

Her Monday title match against former NXT champion Charlotte will mean, whether she wins or loses, she ties the record for longest-reigning Divas Champion.

The reality star and champion wrestler sat down with WWE announcer Michael Cole to explain why she's so deserving of the title.

"It's been the best accomplishment in my life," she said. "There's nothing like when you have a dream and you can see it in your mind. And then it comes true and it comes to life. It gives me chills even talking about it. I feel as if I have trained eight years for the Olympics and I'm finally getting that gold medal. There's just so much that goes through my mind, my emotions. I just can't believe it's already here."

As for her upcoming fight against Charlotte? The Total Divas star revealed she's not nervous at all.

"Charlotte belongs in NXT," she said, adding that her opponent, who is the daughter of champion wrestler Ric Flair, doesn't belong in the same league as the Bellas.

More: Brie Bella condemns Brooklyn crowds for disrespecting the Divas (PHOTO)

"I don't think she realizes how lucky she is, because what Charlotte doesn't realize is she has no idea how hard it is to be self-made," Bella, who worked her way up from hosting to actually competing in the ring, said. "I had to work from the ground up. I didn't have a famous father… I am the revolutionary. My story is revolutionary."

Bella and her sister, Brie Bella, are both moving on with their lives after launching their careers on Total Divas. But Nikki Bella explained how they left a lasting imprint on the show.

"Team Bella has been the forefront of this season's revolution and the revolution wouldn't have happened without the Bellas," she said. "I believe that it's my title reign that created this revolution because of your perception of Brie and I for so many years and how we worked so hard to improve in that ring. People wanted change and we were the change."

Why we always remember a great teacher

0
0

Everyone remembers a great teacher, but what does it mean to be great? It transcends academic achievements and results, surely: top grades in examinations are ultimately the end goal in education but the great teacher does this and more.

"Of course credentials, knowledge, critical thinking and all other faculties of intelligence are important. However, a great teacher should be much more than credentials, experience and intelligence," wrote Rusul Alrubail on Edutopia.

A great teacher shows kindness to students; is compassionate, empathetic and positive. A great teacher bridges gaps and builds relationships. A great teacher inspires.

There’s no secret template to being an inspirational teacher. It’s not exclusive to a certain style or personality of teacher. There are many different types of teacher, from "disciplinarian", to "friendly", "fun", "sporty" and "cool" — and there are variations in between.

We shouldn’t assume that all cool teachers will click with all students, and that those teachers who are considered disciplinarians will fail to connect with theirs. A stricter character can still be brilliantly effective in the classroom, and forge strong bonds with students. Many of us will have a teacher we can recall instantly as being memorable and influential during our formative years.

More: Retiring teacher gets 'flash-mobbed' on her last day of school (VIDEO)

My nomination was the English teacher who helped me to channel my ideas into my writing and really push myself to achieve as much as I could. Friends and colleagues have similar fond recollections of teachers who have left lasting impressions, and it's clear that inspiration can be found throughout all stages of education.

“My primary school headteacher, Mr George, was and is a constant inspiration for me,” said Mark Leech from Boston. “He drove a sports car, had long hair and lived for the kids at our school. He was the five-a-side football manager and also played guitar and he was the reason I first picked one up. I still play to this day. He retired several years ago to become a full time luthier (guitar builder) and he still services my guitars in his workshop today! His pure passion for teaching and helping kids learn was the basis for my long term education and for that of lots of local kids in my generation.”

For Laura Miller, from Lincolnshire, her first ever teacher is the one she most remembers.

“I honestly believe if it wasn't for my first teacher, Mrs Hill, I would never have made it through my first year at school!” she said. “I would cry and cling onto my Mum every morning, begging her not to leave me, while her and all the other mums would walk away, quietly sobbing to themselves. I hated playtime and never wanted to go out into the playground so instead, Mrs Hill would let me and my best friend stay in the classroom and play with our own special dressing up box that she'd brought in from home. She was always so warm and supportive and by the end of that year, she'd built up our confidence and made us love school so much that by the end, we were asking to go to school! A true inspiration.”

More: Why do some parents think it's OK to bully teachers on social media?

“Mine isn't a teacher exactly but a university lecturer, Alan Smith,” recalled Jade Tolley from Peterborough. “He taught one of my creative writing classes and would read your work out to the class if he liked it — he had an incredible way of reading that spurred you on to write more (just so he'd choose you again and share it!) Plus, he was always honest when critiquing your work and knew when to stop other people from being too harsh in the class — some of the boys thought they knew best and liked to really rip work to pieces. He always found the good in what you had written, even if you hated the piece and he never allowed you to scrap anything and start again.”

A secondary school teacher, a primary school headmaster, reception teacher, and university lecturer — four very different types of teachers across different stages of education, and yet each of them have been influential and inspirational in their own way. And all for different reasons. It’s little wonder that some consider teaching to be the most important career in the world.

Jessica Simpson makes a loaded statement about her marriage to Nick Lachey

On Thursday, the fashion mogul appeared on CNBC’s Closing Bell. She was making an appearance on the business news show in honor of the 10th anniversary of her crazy successful fashion line.

And when asked by anchor Kelly Evans about her greatest financial mistake, Simpson had a hilarious, enigmatic and pretty loaded answer.

She replied, "The biggest money mistake? I don't know. For some reason I thought of my first marriage!" Simpson and Evans had a chuckle and the news anchor responded, "That's actually a common answer, believe it or not."

And while we don't hear any more from Simpson to know exactly what she was talking about, we do know that divorce can be pretty bad for one's financial health.

More: Jessica Simpson is being sued, but there's something odd about the lawsuit

Simpson’s first marriage, which occurred back in 2002 was, of course, to Nick Lachey. The two shared an MTV reality TV show, Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, which launched the pair into stardom from their smoldering young music careers. And since their divorce in 2006, both have moved on to remarry and now have children with their current spouses.

But what was she alluding to? Inquiring minds want to know, and by that I mean me.

Was it just a costly divorce? Were there prenup stipulations that cost Simpson a bundle of cash? Was she just thinking of her biggest mistake in general and not her biggest financial mistake? So many questions. So many questions!

While Lachey and Simpson are not necessarily buddy-buddy, they didn't part enemies, either. Lachey told Jenny McCarthy he didn't have contact with his ex, saying, "I wouldn’t say it's friends and I wouldn’t say it’s enemies — there is just no contact. We both moved on with our lives. It’s not animosity, it’s not friendship, it's just kind of nothing."

"Being with her children, being with her family, being with Joe… and then kind of getting back into whatever she's going to get back into," he said of her post-prison plans. "If that's television, if it's different projects, if it's getting involved with a restaurant... there are so many opportunities that she has.

"I think she's going to take it one day at a time, but her focus is, 'I want to get back to my freedom, I want to get back to my husband, I want to get back to my parents, my children, and then kind of take it as it goes.' But I expect that you'll be seeing her shortly after she comes home."

Giudice is expected to be released early, in time for Christmas with her family.

The Mattel doll look-a-like has apparently joined the makeup-free selfie movement. The verdict? She's beautiful, of course, but this does remind us to never underestimate the power of makeup.

From the moment Lukyanova surfaced as Barbie come to life, I was less interested in her plastic persona and more curious to see what this woman looked like behind the Barbie act (no matter how amazing her cosmetic artistry may be).

And to finally see the woman behind the cosmetic mask is humbling.

There is no such thing as the perfect woman, and while there is no denying Lukyanova is gorgeous when she's in character, she is also a natural beauty.

If we've learned anything from this woman, it is not what cosmetics can do for us, but rather that behind the enhancement, being our natural selves is still enough.

11 Things to know about Bruno Mars

According to Billboard, Mars has been asked to "curate" the halftime show, meaning he'll once again perform and bring some special guests with him. While it's not a done deal yet, conversations are reportedly ongoing. We'll have to stay tuned to hear more. In the meantime, here are some fun facts about Mars.

1. He grew up in Hawaii

Bruno Mars

Mars was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father, originally from Brooklyn, New York, is Puerto Rican and half-Ashkenazi Jew, and his mother, who emigrated to Hawaii as a child, was of Filipino descent.

2. His stage name was inspired by a wrestler

Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez. So where did the name Bruno Mars come from? His dad gave him the nickname "Bruno" because Mars was chunky as a baby and reminded him of the hefty wrestler Bruno Sammartino. As for the "Mars" part,  the singer told Rap Up, "The 'Mars' came up just because I felt like I didn’t have no pizzazz, and a lot of girls say I’m out of this world. So I was like, I guess I’m from Mars."

3. Music talents run in his family

His father is a drummer and his late mother was a hula dancer. In fact, the two met while performing at a show. Apparently, they passed on their abilities to their kids. Mars' sisters have a musical group called the Lylas. Meanwhile, his brother Eric is a drummer in Mars' backup band, The Hooligans.

4. He was a young Elvis impersonator

Bruno Mars

When Mars was a kid, his dad and uncle ran a Hawaiian variety show that sometimes featured the singer as an Elvis impersonator. That's right — he's been performing since age 4.

5. He's a songwriter

Aside from creating his own hits, Mars has also penned many popular tracks for other artists. In fact, before becoming a successful solo artist, he was a known music producer, writing tunes for writing artists like Travie McCoy, Brandy, Sean Kingston, CeeLo Green and Flo Rida.

6. It took him a while to break out

Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Mars signed to Motown Records in 2004 in a deal that "went nowhere," and a conversation with Will.i.am's management also turned out fruitless.

In 2006, he met his future manager at Atlantic Records, Aaron Bay-Schuck. After hearing Mars play a couple of songs on the guitar, Bay-Schuck wanted to sign him immediately. But the label felt that it was too early and that Mars still needed development as an artist, so Mars didn't officially sign to Atlantic Records until three years later. He broke out when he was featured on the B.o.B single "Nothin' on You," which he also wrote.

7. He's run into trouble with the law

In 2010, Mars was arrested in Las Vegas for possession of cocaine. He pleaded guilty to felony drug possession, and in return for his plea, he was told that the charges would be erased from his criminal record as long as he stayed out of trouble for a year, paid a $2,000 fine, did 200 hours of community service and completed a drug counseling course.

8. His first Super Bowl performance made history

Bruno Mars

Mars made history at the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show in 2014 as the youngest artist ever to serve as the sole NFL Super Bowl halftime headline.

9. He's already matched Elvis Presley in a big way

In 2013, Mars scored his fifth No. 1 hit with "When I Was Your Man." The song came just a little over three years after his first chart-topper — meaning that Mars racked his first five Hot 100 No. 1s faster than any male since Elvis Presley.

10. He has two Grammys

Out of 18 total nominations, Mars has won two Grammys: the first in 2011 for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Just the Way You Are," and the second in 2014, when he also won for Best Pop Vocal Album for Unorthodox Jukebox.

11. He's one of the world's best-selling artists of all time

Throughout his singing career, he has sold over 100 million singles and albums, making him one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. Five of his singles are also counted among the best-selling singles of all time.

Oven-baked salmon with asparagus and lemon-tarragon butter recipe

This dish relies on simple seasoning to enhance the flavors of the ingredients. The butter adds a citrusy herb touch to the salmon and asparagus.

Serves 4

Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 8-12 minutes | Total time: 18-22 minutes

Ingredients:

For the lemon-tarragon butter

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, slightly softened
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon dried tarragon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

For the asparagus

  • 1 bunch asparagus, cleaned and ends trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

For the salmon

  • 4 (4 ounce) salmon fillets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and ground black pepper, to season
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Aluminum foil
  • Lemon slices, for garnish

Directions:

For the lemon-tarragon butter

  1. In a food processor, mix all the ingredients, and then transfer to a small bowl or ramekin.
  2. Chill in the refrigerator for 20 minutes, until ready to serve.

For the asparagus

  1. Heat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. On a baking pan, place the asparagus pieces, and drizzle with the olive oil. Season with the salt and pepper.
  3. Place in the oven while the salmon cooks, but you will likely need to remove the asparagus before the salmon has finished cooking. Cook for about 8 to 10 minutes, tossing once during cooking.
  4. Remove from the oven, and keep warm.

For the salmon

  1. Line a baking pan with aluminum foil, and spray lightly with the nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Pat the salmon fillets dry with a paper towel. Coat them on both sides with the olive oil, then season with a pinch each of salt and ground black pepper.
  3. Place on the pan skin side down. Cooking time will depend on the thickness of the fillets. Cook for 4 to 6 minutes per 1/2-inch thickness of the salmon.
  4. The salmon will flake easily with a fork when done. Try this in the thickest part of the salmon. The USDA notes that a safe internal temperature for fish, as measured by a food thermometer, is 145 degrees F.
  5. Serve the salmon and asparagus with a dollop of lemon-tarragon butter on top or on the side.

'Touched out:' The new mom problem that no one wants to talk about

0

It all started with a simple spat, the kind you can expect to have when you're getting the kids ready for day care at eight in the morning. He leaned in for a hug as we were about to tackle our own respective dirty diapers on each toddler, and I said, spurred on by a long week of work stress, "I'm tired."

"You're always tired," he replied.

That got me. I thought he was just being rude or flippant, so I decided to take my time in staying mad about it all day long. My husband and I work at home together, so we went our separate ways — or rather, to our separate rooms — to log in for the day.

At the end of the day, a time when I would typically expect to kiss and make up and laugh and put it all behind us, I saw he was still mad. Baffled, because I assumed I was the one who had the right to be mad (he was rude after all), I asked what was wrong. I wasn't at all prepared for his response.

"If I didn't give you physical affection, we would never touch," he said. "I didn't get married to have a roommate."

That stung. Our marriage that came from two high school best friends who reconnected in their early twenties always had sexual chemistry. He assured me that wasn't the issue. Sex was fine — as good as it could be for two tired parents of two rambunctious toddlers. It was the touching, the affection, the romance of it all that was lacking and had been for some time. He felt foolish even bringing it up.

When the "it could never happen to me" happens, you don't know whether to laugh or cry. Cry because it's so frustrating that your marriage has become a living post-baby stereotype of a frigid wife pushing away her husband, or laugh because this is the kind of stuff you only see on TV.

It sucks. It's embarrassing. It's also surprisingly normal for women. "It's not uncommon to avoid physical touch altogether as a new mom. I've worked with dozens of mothers who avoid physical intimacy altogether because they're not ready for sexual intimacy or are simply so overwhelmed that sex is the farthest thing from their minds," explains Astroglide's resident sexologist, Dr. Jess. "Their partners often become frustrated and withdraw from affectionate touch, creating a cycle of withdrawal."

More: Having a baby is just as bad as getting divorced... or worse

Becoming a parent is the most interesting paradox — there's no way I would ever regret having my two wonderful sons, but I also recognize that their mere existence is a stressor. I always saw myself as the affectionate type, someone who loves cuddles, hugs and kisses. But until I had two toddlers underfoot, I never knew what it was like to offer my body to two little people every waking hour of the day.

I was "touched out." As Dr. Christiane Manzella, clinical director of the Seleni Institute, explains, there's something that happens to you when people are touching you, tugging at you and asking to be carried all day long — even if they happen to be the people you love the most. The physical intimacy required to parent a baby or a small child is a double-edged sword. "From breastfeeding to rocking a fussy baby, it can be so physically intimate and emotionally demanding that you may not want to be touched any more than you already are. You may be in physical pain, or you may feel claustrophobic. You may also just feel protective of your body. These are all normal reactions," Dr. Manzella says.

It takes it out of you. The stress of staying up with a baby all night and, soon enough, chasing a toddler around, can easily create a rift between two happy people, says April Masini, relationship expert at AskApril.com. "If physical affection and intimacy aren't resumed — even if it's in a different form than it once was — the marriage will suffer. Affection and sex are important parts of marriage, and while stress is an understandable challenge, it's an inexcusable long-term reason not to kiss, hug, hold hands — and yes, have sex."

More: An open letter to the new mom I was years ago

I felt, a little dramatically, in that moment that our relationship was doomed. I didn't want to be one of those couples who never touched, talked or even looked at each other while living in the same house. The only way I knew out of this sad, predictable marriage cliché was through.

My husband and I had a long talk, and I thanked him for his honesty (as much as it hurt my pride to hear I was living life as a mom-bot). We also talked about how we each respond differently to our "love language" — I love to talk, and he loves to touch.

And then it clicked. Every time I forced my husband to put down his video game after a long day with the kids so I could whine over a glass of wine, he was showing me my version of love. All he wanted was for me to do the same.

More: The Vampire Diaries will introduce its first same-sex couple in Season 7

Based on the new trailer for the upcoming season, Stefan, Damon, Caroline, Bonnie, Alaric, Matt and Enzo aren't going to be resting easy. Actually, the Heretics and Mommy Salvatore are wreaking havoc on the town and uprooting the lives of our favorite characters. With that said, let's dissect the trailer and what spoilers were provided to hold us over until the Season 7 premiere.

1. The Heretics have taken over Mystic Falls

In addition to the Heretics being part witch and part vampire, they are also taking over Mystic Falls. Yep, Caroline, Stefan, Damon and everyone else no longer live in their hometown. As Caroline asks Stefan in the trailer, "Are we making a huge mistake handing over our town to a bunch of supernatural terrorists?" He replies, "Yeah, probably." So, where are they now living? And will they ever return to Mystic Falls?

2. Steroline is hot and heavy

For now, it looks like Steroline is going strong. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for one steamy kiss between Caroline and Stefan. It's glorious.

3. An ominous "deal" was made

Several times, some type of "deal" is discussed. It appears the Heretics will stay away from Stefan, Damon and their friends — if they stay away from them. Per Stefan, "We don't mess with them, they don't mess with us." Yeah, I bet that won't last long.

4. Damon in a coffin?

In one quick glimpse, we see Damon rising up out of a coffin, gasping for air. What does that mean? Thankfully, he's still alive, so that's all that really matters.

5. Stefan's now a bomb maker

This is where that explosive part comes into play. Stefan asks an anonymous someone to help him make a bomb. Then, you see an explosion. Never did I think Stefan would dabble in bomb making.

6. Bonnie and Enzo are working together

The trailer makes it look like Enzo and Bonnie are working together. It's hard to say for certain, but if true, it sure is interesting. Is Enzo the person Bonnie will be dating this season? Executive producer Julie Plec told TV Line about Bonnie's romantic future and if they'll be pairing her up with someone, "Yes, yes we are. It’s not a woman yet, but it’s a little bit surprising. It comes strangely out of nowhere, but it will make a lot of sense. That’s my enigmatic tease."

7. Damon is still as snarky as ever

Even without Elena by his side, Damon still has his wit. Thank goodness.

Now, watch the trailer for yourself.
