3 Major things keeping you from better sex with your sig-o

$
0
0

It tackles some really common issues all couples face on different levels, so even if your sex life is not necessarily at rock bottom, you may find the show still gives you an ah-ha moment.

Take the most recent episode where we meet a woman who struggles to communicate openly about sex and what she wants. She feels guilt and shame for being sexual because her mother was a preacher. Her mother isn't standing over her shoulder telling her she can't have a healthy sex life with her husband, but it obviously stands in her way.

Dr. Fran Walfish, relationship psychotherapist and author on the show's panel, explains to SheKnows that those feelings of guilt about sex come from messages we get early in our lives. "Most messages were not said blatantly, although some were. Most were observed indirectly and subtly absorbed by our parents' comfort level with their own nudity."

Every couple on the show can point their problems back to some emotion that they have learned to associate with sex, and Dr. Fran confirms that guilt, shame and fear are the three most common emotions that interfere with our sex lives. Next on that list: Stress. And now we can all let out a resounding "duh."

But, they don't have to define them. If you learn one thing from this show, it's how important healthy sex is to the foundation of a long-term relationship and if you're willing to, you can make your bedroom (or kitchen, or living room, or office) a really exciting place again.

First step to can't-stop-thinking-about-it sex? According to Dr. Walfish, give yourself permission to enjoy healthy, wonderful sex as an adult. Say it in the mirror every morning if you have to. And then follow these rules:

1. Your needs shouldn't be a dirty little secret you keep to yourself — know what works and talk honestly about it. This goes for both partners.

2. If you notice your sex life starting to struggle, don't wait until the sex is completely gone to admit there's a problem. Talk to a therapist if you need to.

3. When you talk about it, don't blame your spouse or accuse them of not giving you what you need. Use "I" instead of "you" — it goes back to that whole "treat people how you want to be treated" mantra.

4. Be accountable for your part of the equation. Many couples go on the show thinking they know the problem and it's his or her fault, but there is are always two sides to the story. It's a vicious circle of cause and effect. If you can get on the same side, you can begin to solve the issue.

5. Learn to be comfortable with asking for what you want, specifically.

6. Do other intimate things as a couple, like send romantic texts and even the cliché things like showering together or taking a bath with candles everywhere. Great sex trumps fire hazards, right?

7. Be careful about sharing your fantasies if there is risk they will put your partner down or make him/her jealous if they can't fulfill it for you. In some cases, it may be better to think your fantasy and you can still reap the benefits. For example, your husband will probably never be Chris Hemsworth. Sorry, you can't ask him to be a totally different person. But, you can imagine it.

8. And my personal favorite quote from Dr. Walsh: "Put your worries in a locked box and leave it outside the bedroom. If she’s worried about the kids she will not have an orgasm. When the stock market goes down, so does his erection. Free yourselves to enjoy the moment."

You can watch Sex Box Fridays at 10:00/9:00 p.m. Central.

These lime sorbet leprechaun floats are perfect for adults but even better for the little ones to drink on this green day. Lime sorbet or sherbet is scooped into Mason jars (or use tall glasses), then topped off with citrus lemon-lime soda and fresh lime wedges for garnish. These frozen, frosty drinks are even more fun if you can find cute little St. Paddy's Day garnishes, such as shamrocks, clovers or little leprechauns.

Leprechaun lime floats recipe

This frosty drink uses lime sorbet and fizzy lemon-lime soda in this nonalcoholic, kid-friendly drink idea for your Irish or St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

Yields 4

  • 4 clean Mason jars or glasses
  • 1 pint lime sorbet or sherbet
  • Lemon-lime soda, such as Sprite or 7UP

11 Surprising franchise stores where you can take your dog

$

Remember that this list is only of the places your dog may be allowed. Even places that do allow pets will usually have rules about the circumstances, so it pays to check those out before you go. For example, many of them won't allow dogs classified as a bully breed, regardless of the canine's personality.

They may also require that dogs be up-to-date on their shots, be leashed or muzzled or any number of safety precautions. Don't be upset if they ask you to leash them or ask your pooch to leave. My little bombastic mess of a Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix has to be locked in a carrier — and that's at his vet's office!

Pet stores

With the number of big-box pet stores offering services like veterinary care, training, doggy day care and more, this is no surprise, but do make note that you need to see what the rules are before rolling in with Rover.

1. Pet Supplies Plus

2. PetSmart

Home improvement stores

Because of their wide concrete aisles, it's not uncommon for home improvement stores to allow dogs on leashes, but it varies from area to area, so check first. The policy isn't nationwide, and stores may only allow dogs during certain (less busy) hours during the day.

3. Home Depot

4. Lowe's

5. Tractor Supply Co.

Outdoor malls and individual stores

It's not uncommon for outdoor malls to allow you to take your pets around outside if they're well-behaved (and you have a good stock of poop baggies at your disposal). But it's up to the individual stores to decide if animals are allowed in their establishments. I heard a rumor you can carry your small dogs in your purse on Rodeo Dr. so long as they're wearing their diamond-encrusted collars, but I'm not sure how reliable Paris Hilton my source is about that.

6. Barnes & Noble

The Marmaduke book signing always brings them out by the stroller-ful.

7. Pottery Barn

While they encourage you to try out the floor models to make sure you're comfortable with the purchases you make before you buy, most home furnishing stores prefer that you leave your clothes on, unless you're a four-legged family member.

8. Apple Store

Most of the Apple Stores I've been in have allowed at least small-breed dogs, though I've seen associates request that owners carry their dogs when there's a lot of foot traffic.

9. Macy's

10. Ikea

The blue zone is for loading and unloading only. Ikea may not let you walk around the store with your pet, but it gives you a place to park ‘em. Kid parking is just inside the front doors.

11. Starbucks

Most Starbucks are probably only going to let dogs on the patio since it serves food.

The results are in: In-N-Out Burger is overrated

$
0
0

But am I really missing out? The In-N-Out Burger phenomenon is spreading. Since the first-ever drive-thru hamburger stand opened in California in 1948, In-N-Out has exploded. In-N-Out opened its 300th store in Anaheim, California, in January 2015, with existing locations throughout California and in Arizona, Nevada, Texas and Utah.

As someone living deep in the heart of Texas, I know that these new In-N-Out Burger chains have made the locals go crazy. Facebook buzz tells me that a two-hour drive-thru wait, with a line wrapping around the parking lot, is nothing out of the ordinary. I ask again: Is it really worth it?

One Redditor sparked this topic of conversation when he posted that he tried In-N-Out for the first time while visiting California. Some posters swore by In-N-Out for every meal, and others just weren't buying it. More than 2,000 comments later, and here's what Reddit had to say about the famous In-N-Out Burger:

1. Australians are not impressed

Heart burger

Image: Giphy

What do non-Americans think of this fast-food craze? In a word: disappointment. "I was in California visiting from Australia, and I tried In-N-Out because everybody raves about how good it is, and I left disappointed."

2. Be realistic

Blinking burger

Image: Giphy

Lower your expectations, and you're going to enjoy your burger much, much more. "In-N-Out is great for cheap and quality burgers. They should be described as solid instead of amazing. Same as any fast food."

3. Don't even think about animal style

Burger disappointment

Image: Giphy

Whenever you hear In-N-Out, you hear "animal style" as the only way to order your burger. One unhappy diner has a different take — he recommends saving your cash instead of making the upgrade: "The burger was bland, the cheese was gummy and the fries had a very off-putting texture. I ordered my burger and fries 'animal style' the second time I went, which just means they put cheese and grilled onions on them. Animal style was even worse, and I paid an extra like $3 for it!"

4. Hold the fries

Mean girls

Image: Giphy

In-N-Out burgers may be great, but the fries are questionable, according to one Redditor: "I do not understand In-N-Out. The burgers are ok, the fries are like chalk." Another poster adds: "Their fries were terrible. I am talking about literally some of the worst fries in the world."

5. Hold the salt

Hamster

Image: Giphy

The word on the street is that In-N-Out produces some of the best fast food in the biz, but one Redditor disagrees: "I tried it a few years ago. I got a burger animal style, and I thought it was way too salty."

6. It's just fast food

Fast food

Image: Giphy

One local Californian believes that the In-N-Out obsession has gone way too far: "I don't 'get' the raving fans either. In-N-Out make really good burgers for a fast food joint. But that's it; they're really good when judging from the standpoint of other fast food joints. There's plenty of places that make better burgers than In-N-Out."

7. Jack is better

Deal with it

Image: Giphy

If you would rather have Jack in the Box than In-N-Out, that's saying something: "I've always thought In-N-Out was overrated. I know I'll catch a lot of flak for this, but I'd rather take an Ultimate Cheeseburger with Bacon from Jack-in-the-Box any day."

8. No contest between In-N-Out and Whataburger

Whataburger

Image: Giphy

If there's one thing that stands out about Texans, it's their unshakable loyalty to Whataburger: "You don't debate Whataburger; you just enjoy their delicious burgers, which are far superior to any other burger."

9. Not the Holy Grail

Holy Grail

Image: Giphy

Another Redditor says, "It's way better than most fast food joints to be sure and a great value, but it's not the Holy Grail of burgers."

10. Too much hype

Pig out

Image: Giphy

The most common theme among commenters was that In-N-Out had some big shoes to fill. For most diners, reality didn't live up to the dream. "Yeah, it was good fast food; don't get me wrong. It had just been talked up so much, I was expecting a hot burger joint, and it failed to live up to the hype."

Ridiculously rich cats that will make your bank account jealous

$

While it’s true that most of the cats on this list inherited their wealth from a handful of cuckoo benefactors, one cat on this list is a self-made millionaire. Yes, as if being a cat lounging around, napping and knocking stuff off counters wasn’t a great enough gig, these kitties have upped the ante big time.

Tinker ($160,000)

Rich Cat Tinker

Image: Giphy

Tinker is a tomcat that was a stray until he was found and loved by an old lady, Margaret Layne, who left Tinker with a home in North London and a trust fund when she died. Layne designated her neighbors Ann and Eugene Wheatley as Tinker’s caretakers and trustees. They drop off regular deliveries of fish, meat and milk to keep the kitty satisfied.

But there’s a catch. Tinker loses the $800,000 house should he wander off. Sounds like this stray better stay put for good.

Tommaso ($13 million)

Tommaso rich cat

Image: Giphy

Tommaso looks like an everyday black, stray cat, but don’t let his looks fool you — this is one rich cat. Tommaso was taken in by Maria Assunta in Milan, Italy, and upon her death in late 2011, she left her $13 million estate to the cat. Unfortunately, Italian law doesn’t allow the cat to hold wealth and property, so the estate — and the cat — were handed over to a nurse who had taken care of Assunta.

Blackie ($25 million)

Blackie Rich cat

Image: Giphy

Blackie was lucky enough to befriend Ben Rea, who left the cat a $25 million fortune when he died. Featured in the Guiness Book of World Records as the world’s richest cat, no one seems to know where Blackie is today. Probably in a bungalow on a private island with the world’s largest pile of cat nip. I hope you're having a blast wherever you are, Blackie.

Tardar Sauce, a.k.a. Grumpy Cat ($100 million)

Grumpy Cat rich

Image: Giphy

After a picture of Tardar Sauce was posted on Reddit, the feline in a perpetual foul mood, now billed as "Grumpy Cat," became an overnight sensation. The cat, from humble beginnings in Morrison, Arizona, has gone on to become a big star — and big earner.

Grumpy Cat’s owner, Tabatha Bundesen, was once working as a waitress and is now in control of what is rumored to be Grumpy Cat’s $100 million fortune. While Tabatha says that number is way off the mark, Grumpy Cat is reported to have earned more in the past couple of years than Hollywood heavyweights Nicole Kidman and Cameron Diaz when you add up the book deals, TV appearances and the deal to be Friskies spokescat.

Netflix is coming to Australia, this is what you need to know

$

Netflix is the entertainment equivalent of a buffet

Netflix 4

Image: Tumblr

TV shows, movies, documentaries and children's programming — Netflix will give you access to thousands and thousands of hours worth of content. Perhaps the best thing about the streaming service is that if you like a show, or are interested in watching a show you may not have seen before, Netflix will give you access to the entire series.

But just like the food at the buffet expires, so do the offerings on Netflix

Netflix 5

Image: Quick Meme

Netflix doesn't give you access to every movie or TV show its ever had in its arsenal at the same time. Movies and TV shows are available for a certain period of time before they expire, making way for a new batch of movies and TV shows that then become available to viewers. But don't worry, everything that is available at any one time is still more than you could ever manage to watch in one lifetime.

Netflix is for serious binge-watchers

Netflix 2

Image: The Prospect

Netflix might even be the reason the term "binge-watching" exists. If you only slightly dabble in binge-watching or have an attention span that means you can really only watch one movie or one episode of a show at a time, then Netflix might be a little wasted on you and you might consider spending your money elsewhere. But if you are someone who not only can, but needs to, down at least one season of Friends per day, then the charm and magic of Netflix will not at all be lost on you. Which leads me to my next point...

Acquiring Netflix may lead to a feeling that you never want to leave the house

Netflix 1

Image: Big Bang Theory

Or shower, or brush your hair, or wear something other than pyjamas. And that's okay, because who needs to live an actual life when you can do it vicariously through the characters Netflix will bring into your home all day long?

Netflix means nothing for you in terms of Game of Thrones

Netflix 6

Image: Giphy

Netflix does not have Game of Thrones. It's about the only thing Netflix doesn't have, so you'll either need to continue with your Foxtel subscription to legitimately watch the show when it airs in the U.S., or you'll need to continue doing whatever illegitimate things you've been doing to get access to it.

Regular television = Toyota Camry; Netflix = Aston Martin

Netflix 8

Image: Giphy

Netflix is where it's at, people! Netflix is the much slicker car with all the gadgets; it's the cool avant-garde cousin of regular television; it's the Ryan Atwood of TV subscriptions — brooding, a little dangerous and with more depth than is obvious on the surface. Plus, with so many available viewing options, Netflix can actually be whoever you want it to be. If you want to be one of the cool kids, then you need Netflix.

You will need an internet connection

Internet

Image: Quick Meme

Netflix operates via a broadband connection, so if you live in an area where trying to get even basic ADSL is proving to be a nightmare, you can add missing out on Netflix to the list of possibilities a lack of internet connection is depriving you of. The good news for iiNet customers is that any content streamed on Netflix won't count towards your monthly data cap.

Acquiring Netflix will give you access to all of these new buzzed-about shows

Netflix 9

Image: Tumblr

Tina Fey's new show, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, just made its debut on Netflix in the U.S. and it is a complete hoot, so you should definitely be putting that one on your must-watch list. Other shows that are gaining a lot of traction and that are being hotly anticipated include Bloodline, Daredevil, Grace and Frankie, BoJack Horseman and Sense8. If you want discussion fodder for any networking event you have to attend, then you need to be watching these shows and you'll never have to make small talk about the weather again.

Plus, it will give you access to these already-established, yet still buzzed-about shows

Netflix 3

Image: Perez Hilton

House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black — if you haven't heard of these shows, then I must ask how you decorate that rock you've been living under. Netflix gave birth to these shows, which are dominating water cooler talk and award nominations. While House of Cards released its third season last month, OITNB will air its third season in its entirety on Netflix come June 12.

11 Reasons you should be eating more soup

$
0
0

1. It warms you up

A thick bowl of soup is certainly heartwarming. If you struggle to stay comfortable in cool weather, though, the trick to warm fingers and toes might lie in a bowl of soup. According to nutritionists, hot soup can increase your core body temperature to warm you from the inside out.

2. Cook it and forget it

Unlike many entrees, a hearty soup is one of the few main courses that will allow you to toss its ingredients into a dutch oven and walk away until dinnertime.

3. Satisfaction guaranteed

The high water content of soup means that it can satisfy your appetite in a healthy and hydrating way. According to a study cited on BBC News, people who are well hydrated with soups are more satisfied with their meals and less likely to consume unnecessary calories when they eat.

4. Soup improves veggie tolerance for youngsters

A study out of The Netherlands found that toddlers who were given veggie- and herb-packed soups for seven weeks showed an improved tolerance for vegetables of all kinds, when compared with toddlers who didn't eat soup. Take that, youngsters.

5. It reduces aches and pains

Chicken soup can't exactly make an illness go away, but there's a reason why it's known as a natural home remedy during cold and flu season. The Mayo Clinic states that chicken soup works as an anti-inflammatory, and it can clear up mucus, too. The result, of course, is the alleviation of nasty symptoms.

6. Vitamins and minerals don't disappear

Unlike other methods for cooking, soups retain the vitamins and minerals of cooked vegetables, because you don't dispose of the water when you're done. That vitamin-packed water just becomes part of the savory and delicious broth.

7. It's hard to mess up

Do you struggle to pull off a palatable meal each evening? Soups are notoriously difficult meals to mess up. If you're not pleased with your first attempts, just add more of something, and it'll turn out fine.

8. Easily low fat and high fiber

Unless you go for a cream-based soup, most soups are full of beans, lean meats and vegetables. All of these ingredients are known for their low-fat and high-fiber composition, which makes soup a wonderfully healthy meal option.

9. Soup is a veggie vehicle

Since ratios and measurements aren't a strict science for soup recipes, you can play around with adding vegetables to the meal. Puree squash and root vegetables into your soup for a creamier and heartier version, without added fat or unnecessary calories.

10. Its aroma fills your home

Is there anything better than the aroma of savory herbs and veggies filling your home in winter? Nope.

5 Easy DIY broths for your new favorite soup

$

Sure, grabbing a few cans of broth when shopping is quick, but did you know that homemade versions are just as easy to prepare? Using basic everyday ingredients such as fresh herbs, chicken, beef, seafood and even spices can magically turn just about anything you have into a delicious, healthy homemade broth.

Here are several super-easy ideas for getting your own broths going. Try using these in casseroles, to replace water when cooking rice, to simmer vegetables or as just a base for a really great soup recipe. The possibilities are endless.

Tips for a great broth

Start with a large stock pot or soup pot for making your broths.

Use the best quality ingredients you can find. Place your meat, poultry, seafood, etc. in the pot along with all of your vegetables. I like to give my veggies a rough chop and keep them on the chunky side. For my favorite broth, I tend to use one medium to large onion, several stalks of celery and three or four carrots.

If you're a garlic lover like me, toss in four or five fresh cloves of garlic. Gently smash them to break them open and ensure that yummy flavor is infused into your broth. Add all of your fresh herbs and seasonings to the pot and cover all of the ingredients with water. Give it a quick stir then cover the pot and simmer on medium-low heat for about an hour.

Once it's cooked, use a fine metal strainer to remove any leftover bits of bone, meat or veggies.

That's how simple it is to make your very own broth!

ARIES (March 20-April 19)

Now you know what a square peg feels like when it’s being forced into a round hole. On March 16, Uranus and Pluto form their final square, and it will bring to an end a journey that began in June 2012. Part of you will be appalled that you are seriously considering walking out on everything you’ve built, while another part of you feels that if you don’t get off the bus that you know is heading in the wrong direction, then you never will. Which side will win? The one that wants to be true to herself, of course.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

It must feel strange to find yourself back where you began two years ago. Yet the funny thing is, life couldn’t be more different. This is the weird thing about Uranian energy. Known as the planet of revolution and change, people often equate Uranian energy to the overthrow of old and oppressive structures. However, the word "revolution" can also refer to the full turn of a wheel, and this is what you’re experiencing. You’ve come full circle in your life, and the result is a more fulfilling relationship, secure job and happier home to show for it.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

You’re playing for high stakes in your career, and developments this week could bring that break in the glass ceiling you’ve been praying for. You’re absolutely right to push for everything you want and to not take no for an answer. It’s a rare occasion when you have backers in your corner and critics on the run. Yet you may have to deal with something troubling regarding your reputation on March 18 when Mercury conjoins Neptune. Yes, it’s probably a setup, but you still want to come forward with anything that’s questionable. Nothing attracts attention like a cover-up.

CANCER (June 21-July 21)

You are finally in a place where you can call the shots. Jupiter taking up residence in your solar house of finances shows that you have fattened your purse to the extent that you are no longer indebted (or beholden) to anyone. Now the stars aren’t saying you should go crazy, but you can start dictating terms to a boss or client. Be forthright about your professional interests, and know that if you still don’t get any satisfaction, then you can resign your position and go somewhere else where you will surely be appreciated and amply rewarded.

LEO (July 22-Aug. 22)

It’s amazing how much has changed. If someone had told you six months ago that you’d be where you are today, you’d never have believed it. You’re finally getting the praise, recognition and money that you deserve. But it’s important to remember at times like this that the real work is just beginning. You’ll be expected to adhere to a higher standard and to deliver again and again. It seems intimidating, but think of your ruling planet, the Sun. Doesn’t the Sun always rise on a new day? Well, if it can do that, then so can you!

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

The more you probe, the more the manufactured excuses and hastily put-together explanations fall apart. Part of you may want to turn around and go back the way you came, but you’re a Virgo. Once begun, you will follow a line of inquiry to its inevitable conclusion. Agatha Christie, the great mystery writer, was a Virgo. And like Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple, you should never assume that you know the full story until all the clues fit seamlessly into place. There will be many twists and turns, but you will learn the truth by March 30.

You know that you aren’t a boss' or client's favorite, but you’re not exactly the bane to his existence either. You lie somewhere in between, and perhaps it’s this neither-here-nor-there status that prompts you to issue an ultimatum on March 20. If you’re going to have that conversation about your career and your future, then do it in a straightforward manner so that you say the things that need to be said. You’ll probably spend the weekend regretting everything you did, but come Monday you may be surprised by his sincere and conciliatory response.

Understand that nobody’s questioning your talent or abilities. They were sold on that long ago. What they are questioning, however, is whether you fit in with the company style. This is where listening and learning will get you further than trotting out the dog-and-pony show.

Australia has a new Bachelor and he looks like the type you'd bring home to Mum

As well as man candy, there's always the styled perfection that is Osher Günsberg's hair, which, let's face it, should have a television show all to itself. But in all seriousness, the Bachelor is usually an absolute spunk, and it looks like the program has delivered in the looks department this year, too.

So who is he? And why is he such a catch? Well, let's get to know him, shall we? Australia's latest Bachelor is a handsome chap by the name of Sam Wood and here are 10 reasons why you'd definitely bring this guy home to mum.

1. He's from the Tasmania, which means he's probably got that small-town charm about him.

2. He's a personal trainer, which, apart from killer abs, probably means he's really into his food and has a massive appetite. Cue home-cooked meals with the family.

3. Wood loves kids! He's even the founder of Gecko Kids, which is a company that promotes health and fitness for kids. Are your ovaries singing yet?

4. If the folks want to make sure your man has a decent job, you can tell them that Wood isn't just a businessman, he's an entrepreneur with more than 35 kids' activity centres around the country. "My passion continues with the love I have for owning my own business. With an entrepreneurial father in the hospitality industry, I think business was something I was destined to do," Woods said. Swoon.

5. He seems open about his emotions. Bless! "Being the Bachelor is a real privilege and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I plan on embracing the experience with an open mind, while wearing my heart on my sleeve," Wood said about the new role.

6. Wood appears as confident as they come, but not in a cocky way. He shouldn't have too much trouble in front of the camera during The Bachelor, either, because he's already featured in some Swisse promotional videos.

7. The man wears his heart on his sleeve. "Ultimately I'm searching for the love of my life. I'm going to throw myself into the adventure and I'm prepared to have the absolute time of my life," Woods said.

8. Even Osher thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread, saying Woods is "the kind of guy any man would want to be mates with." I can sense a bromance coming on.

9. Did we mention he loves kids?

10. And he's a babe?

ARIES (March 20-April 19)

This is going to be a crazed week for you. You won’t know if you’re breaking up or making up half the time. You’ll be so off-again, on-again that you could even meet to break up with him twice in a row simply because you forgot you already did. Unfortunately, go-to stress relievers — like running and yoga — won’t be of much help because the lunar energy will make you so agitated. You won’t be able to sit still or to be around people. 7. Zucchini

It's easy to transform zucchini into tasty noodles

Zucchini is another veggie that makes a nice low-carb and naturally gluten-free alternative to spaghetti. Use a spiral slicer to transform zucchini into spaghetti strands. If you don't have spiral slicer, use a veggie peeler to slice the zucchini into fettuccini-like strands. Serve with red sauce. Before you go and get your body painted with that buzzing needle, keep these things in mind and do without the tattoo remorse.

Fly-in, fly-out father wouldn't miss the birth of his baby boy

When Perth dad, Jace Larke, the sole breadwinner of the family, was offered a fly-in, fly-out role as an electrician in Queensland, it was a no-brainer. Even if that meant he'd potentially miss the birth of his new baby.

His wife, Alison, was expecting their third child and the new role coincided with the tail end of her pregnancy.

"Jace being the sole breadwinner, we were worried if he had put his hand up and asked for indefinite time off, with the contract coming to a close, they would have said don't bother," Alison told Fairfax Media.

"A lot of people are being laid off... that's the reality," she said.

Unfortunately, Jace was indeed away from home when his wife went into labour. But that didn't mean he wasn't going to be present for the birth. Thanks to a 360-degree camera set up in the birthing suite and a headset provided to Jace in Queensland, the family was able to come together, albeit digitally, during the first moments of their son's life.

"To me, that camera was Jace, and that was my link to him in Queensland to share that special moment," Alison said.

The Royals review: Scandal, intrigue and snobbery at its best

$
0
0

I'm talking scandal, money and shirtless hotties, of course. So does E!'s first scripted series deliver? Uh, yeah.

More: SPOILER — Undateable's Bianca Kajlich teases Season 2 romance news

I was absolutely hooked within the first five minutes. I meant to take notes so I could write my review, but my eyes couldn't bear to part from the screen.

If you were in high school, like me, when the whole Gossip Girl and Mean Girls craze took over your entertainment life, then you know what TV is lacking. Which is saying something given the tremendous television lineup right now. Still, The Royals seamlessly finds its place among the amazing content that's out there by fulfilling our teenage scandal needs while also being well-written and not overly acted.

The Royals would fit in just as nicely at The CW as it does at E!, buffered fittingly between episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

More: Togetherness premiere — so many things to love about this new show

The show opens with the death of the eldest prince, which means the surviving brother Prince Liam (William Moseley) is thrust into the spotlight as the heir to the throne, while the middle sister Princess Eleanor is now the oldest but far from a role model. She prefers to use her prestige to score drugs and one-night stands.

The drama is only heightened by the family's grief.

While the children are at play, Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley) is wrapped up in a game of her own. Of course, hers is much more political.

And though the pilot serves to merely set the stage for the rest of the show by introducing us to these characters, it's definitely enough to make me want more.

More: Pippa Middleton says sister's wedding was "surreal"

Some of my favorite parts from the episode:

  • The general consensus that the queen is an "icy bit**."
  • The cousins, who remind me of the twins from A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff. And don't even try to act like you don't love that movie.
  • Princess Eleanor's bad girl attitude. It's already obvious she's going to serve to keep the show interesting with a plethora of trouble.
  • The music.
  • The cliché characters. And it may not make sense at first that that was genuinely one of my favorite parts of the episode, but it's like the new Cinderella movie. The common girl meets a dashing prince storyline coupled with the king not wanting to be king and thus solidifying his nobility all sets up a nostalgia while bringing those story lines to a modern setting, which helps it to simultaneously feel fresh instead of overdone.
  • The show doesn't take itself too seriously. Instead, it opts for some sarcasm and hilarity that make the would-be cheesy moments royally charming instead.

So will I be watching The Royals next week? You'd better believe it. Will you?

I could visibly tell day to day the improvement. When I'd wake up the next morning my skin would look significantly better. The marks/hyperpigmentation from the breakout are still there, but those I can live with."
