Loving my body is a battle, but I will win it without thinspiration

Because I had to throw my yoga mat away two days ago when my living room flooded from a plumbing issue behind my wall.

Because I have to get my kids ready for school at 6:40 a.m. and I've never been a morning person.

Because I'm a single mom and unless I want to drag my children to the gym day care after they've been on a school bus for almost an hour there's no way I'll get out of the house to exercise.

Because when I work out with my kids at home, they always need me when I'm dying from some epic, painful isometric hold.

Because I chose not to when I had a rare moment of free time, and now I feel guilty about that.

So how do I feel when I see a thin woman on Facebook used at fitness inspiration?

ELLE woman working out

ELLE woman working out

I don't feel inspired.

I don't feel inspired because shame isn't motivation. Shame makes women feel bad. Shame, by its very nature, is a toxic force that erodes at confidence and well-being.

Some women may rush to the gym after seeing photos of thin women working out — a tactic known as "thinspiration." Are those women feeling inspired? Or are they feeling threatened by their own insecurities?

People who enjoy working out are inspired by fitness itself, not by pictures in a magazine. And there's nothing wrong with being thin or muscular or strong. The problem isn't with thin women, it's with using that particular "ideal" body type as motivation when fit bodies come in all shapes and sizes.

When presented with that ideal — with that body we're supposed to look like — we may feel not only shame but regret.

I don't like my tummy. That's my fault. When I'm in a forward fold, I feel it bunching up and rolling around and I get a knot in the pit of my stomach — right behind the roll of belly fat. I should have put an exercise DVD on. I don't like my cellulite or the wobble my butt has, despite how enthusiastically I sing along with Meghan Trainor and Nikki Minaj. That's what I get for snacking.

Loving my body is a battle. The other day, I did a yoga routine specifically meant for women to embrace and honor their flaws. I wept on my mat, grateful for recognition that self-love doesn't come easy.

That was inspiring.

I know that fitness is good for me, not because I read it in a fashion magazine but because I know I sleep better and feel healthier when I move.

I never want to feel "inspired" by shame over the shape of my body or shame over being "lazy."

I want to feel inspired by enjoying exercise. Because I love that I'm getting more flexible. Because paddle boarding occasionally is fun. Because I live for savasana.

A gallery of thin women in a magazine won't magically create time for me or for anyone else. So today, I skipped my workout. Maybe tomorrow I'll hit the mat. Maybe I won't. But every single day, I'll practice looking in the mirror and accepting my body, even when it's hard — even when magazines make it harder.

Britney Spears posted this hilarious photo as she holds up her mom, Lynn Spears, as they stand on top of a mountain after a long hike.

The singer is enjoying a break from her Las Vegas shows until mid-April and is spending lots of time with her mom and her sons, 8-year-old Jayden and 9-year-old Sean.

Frozen 2 is totally happening and no one is as excited as Kristen Bell, who voices Princess Anna in the popular movie.

The actress tweeted this photo as she rests her head on a bag of ice. "Dreams really do come 2!!!," she captioned the funny photo.

Bell has two daughters, Lincoln who turns 2 this month and her newborn daughter Delta, and she recently told Us Weekly that neither one has seen Frozen.

"The APA recommends that you let kids watch TV when they're 2 and a half, so we're trying to follow that, which unfortunately is not realistic for all parents — I understand, we're shooting for the moon," she said. "[It's also for] their imagination, just so they don't become sedentary and used to zoning out to videos. But she's certainly seen videos, she loves the hell out of Snoopy! But we're trying. She certainly hasn't seen anything Frozen."

Jessie James Decker

Instagram removed Jessie James Decker's photo of her daughter, Vivianne, learning to potty train and she is not happy about it. She promptly re-posted the photo on Twitter.

She then re-posted the photo on Instagram with the caption: "Let's see how long this lasts before it gets taken down but I bet u my previous pic will stay up. #mamabear#proudmama #sweetgirls I am a real mother who is proud of my daughter like any other mama on social media and excited to share sweet moments. And that's the truth."

James, who is expecting her second child with NFL hunk Eric Decker, later posted a photo (below) of Kim Kardashian lying naked in bed, which Kim had posted on her own Instagram page.

"Soooo this is appropriate but my daughter going potty on her potty with nothing showing is flagged as inappropriate??? Wow instagram. Wow," she wrote.

Grimm's 9 worst and most frightening fairy tales you've never heard of

$

Just about anyone who remembers their childhood fairy tales have heard of the Brothers Grimm, the 18th-century authors responsible for collecting and publishing over 200 German and Scandinavian folk tales. Their effort to catalog and preserve their country's folklore is the reason we are familiar with such popular stories as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, The Frog Prince and Rumpelstiltskin.

More: Cinderella: The glass slippers are actually a sexual metaphor

But we're willing to bet you've never heard the terrifying tale of How Some Children Played at Slaughtering, Little Louse and Little Flea or the murderous tale of Herr Korbes.

That's because after the first collection was published, the Brothers Grimm began to sanitize and tone down their collection of very grim tales — a practice that continued as public sensibilities grew tamer and parents blanched at the thought of reading a book about fiery devils or murderous sausages to their wide-eyed children.

Princeton University Press, however, has recently released a new translation of the unaltered collection of the original Grimm tales, much to the joy of macabre lovers everywhere. Scroll down to read about some of the most gruesome fairy tales you've probably never heard.

The Little Mouse, the Little Bird, and the Sausage

Sausage

Image: Giphy.com

First things first: Whoever heard of a mouse, a bird and a freaking sausage living together? Two of those things are living, breathing creatures, and one is a collection of meat scraps stuffed in a skin tube. And yet, these three characters are the main players in this cautionary tale about being happy with your station in life.

In this story, each character has a daily chore: the mouse fetches the water, the bird fetches the wood and food and the sausage cooks and seasons the meals. When the bird encounters another bird on one of its wood-collecting adventures, however, he finds his head filled with the notion that the happy family's system is unfair. He flies back, demanding that they rotate jobs so he doesn't have to work so hard all the time, and then all hell breaks loose. The sausage goes out to collect firewood and gets eaten by a hungry dog, the mouse tries to season the stew by sliding through it like the sausage did and winds up cooked and the bird gets so upset that it spreads the stove's cinders all over the house, setting it ablaze. As he flies out to the well for water, he gets tangled in the bucket and sucked down the well where he dies.

So, umm, the lesson is to just be happy where you are in life. And if you're a sausage, never, ever leave your house.

The Nightingale and the Blindworm

Bill Hader

Image: Giphy.com

In this story, a one-eyed nightingale and a one-eyed blindworm live happily together until the nightingale borrows the worm's eye to attend a wedding. She promises to give it back afterwards, but of course doesn't, which enrages the worm, who then promises to avenge herself on the nightingale's descendants forever — or until she gets her eye back.

The nightingale, feeling overconfident with her two eyes, taunts the worm by saying, "Well, maybe that will happen — if you ever find me!" and flies off to build her nest high in the linden tree. Which is why, according to the tale, wherever a nightingale builds her nest, a blindworm lives in the earth beneath, spending its days climbing the tree in search of her enemy's eggs to eat.

The Hand with the Knife

Knife

Image: Giphy.com

This tale focuses on a young girl with three older brothers with anger-control issues. Their mother loves the boys above all else and treats her little girl like crap, making her cut peat (to burn in their stove) every morning with a dull old shovel, which makes the chore incredibly difficult. But, the girl has a secret admirer in the form of an elf who decides to lend her his magic knife, allowing her to get the task done in record time. The elf is a bit of a hermit, living in a hill and only extending his hand to give the girl his knife, or take it back from her after she'd cut enough peat.

The girl's mother grows suspicious of her daughter's productivity, however, and sends the three boys to follow her. When they see the girl using the magic knife, they overtake her, forcing her to give it to them. Then they sneak back to the elf, and when he extends his hand to retrieve the knife, they chop it off, leading the elf to think that his beloved betrayed him. And that's the end of the story — the bad boys totally get away with their crime!

The Stolen Pennies

Ghost door

Image: Giphy.com

In this cautionary tale about greed, a ghost child haunts a cupboard where he hid two pennies his mother had given him to donate to the poor. The family living in the house where the cupboard resides can't see the child, but a visitor calling on them can. After he tells the mother and father what he's seen, they rip up the floorboards of the cupboard, finding the two pennies, and the mother donates them to the poor, finally allowing the ghost child some peace.

How Some Children Played at Slaughtering

Bad Kid

Image: Giphy.com

OK, there are actually two horrifying versions of this tale. In both, a group of children decides that they want to play a lovely game of pretend, in which one child plays the butcher, and another plays the pig. These kids don't seem to understand the rules of make-believe, however, and in both stories, the "butcher" actually kills the "pig."

In the first version, the "butcher" slits the throat of the "pig" while another child playing the "cook" collects the blood in a bowl. A councilman walking nearby sees the incident, and takes the butcher to the mayor, who immediately calls a council to deal with the boy. The council can't agree on what to do with the boy, however, because the murder was part of a child's game, so they decide to test the child's mettle by offering him a gold coin or a delicious apple. If the boy picks the apple, he would go free. If he picks the gold coin, he's to be killed. The boy laughs, grabs the apple and the council lets him go without any punishment. The end.

Can we panic now?

Image: Giphy.com

The second version is even worse, however. In it, the child playing the "butcher" slits the throat of his younger "pig" brother. Their mother, seeing this from the upstairs bathroom where she's bathing another child, runs downstairs and kills her murderous son in a vengeful rage. She then returns upstairs to find her third child drowned in the tub. Flooded with grief, she hangs herself. Her husband, after returning from the fields, becomes so depressed that he dies shortly thereafter.

Little Louse and Little Flea

Flood

Image: Giphy.com

This is basically a more macabre version of "The House that Jack Built," only instead of a series of nonsensical silliness revolving around a house, the tale weaves the sad story around a flea and louse who brew beer in an eggshell. When the louse falls into the eggshell and is scalded, it sets off a series of unfortunate events involving a creaking door, burning dung heap and weeping maiden that ends with the nearby spring overflowing and drowning everyone.

Clever Hans

Eyeballs

Image: Giphy.com

Clever Hans is a total idiot who courts a young maiden by demanding she give him things. Every time she gives him something, however, he destroys or loses it, leading his mother to chastise him and offer him advice that he then inappropriately applies to the next gift. By the end, he's tied the young maiden up in the barn, and when his mother tells him he should have "thrown friendly looks at her with the eyes" instead, he goes back into the stable and cuts all the eyes out of his cows to literally throw the cow eyeballs in her face.

Herr Korbes

Scared

Image: Giphy.com

In this weird tale of animals and inanimate objects gone psycho, a band of misfit items takes a ride in a red wagon to visit a man named Herr Korbes, who they then murder. The killer hen, rooster, millstone, egg, duck, pin, cat and sewing needle all torture him first, though, so there's that lovely image to go to sleep with.

The Strange Feast

Sausage

Image: Giphy.com

Perhaps one of the weirdest tales in the collection features a little liver sausage (again with the sausages!) who befriends a blood sausage. After some time, the blood sausage invites the liver sausage to her home for dinner, but when the liver sausage arrives, there's a whole lot of crazy happening on the blood sausage's staircases, including a dueling broom and shovel and a monkey with a head wound.

While the liver sausage wanders around the house looking for her "friend," a mysterious voice warns her that she's inside a murderous trap and should leave immediately. The sausage takes the voice's advice and leaves, but before she makes her escape, she catches sight of the blood sausage holding a long gleaming knife in the attic window. The blood sausage cries after the departing liver sausage, "If I had caught you, I would have had you!" which is totally redundant and weird and terrifying.

Teen's food allergy death spurs lawsuit against restaurant

Boy dies from food allergy

Boy dies from food allergy

A meal out for a family became a tragedy when a 16-year-old boy ate pancakes the restaurant assured were dairy-free. They weren't, and the boy, who suffered from a severe milk allergy, died as a result. Now the family is suing the restaurant for its fatal mistake.

Scott Johnson's dairy allergy was discovered when he was just an infant, and the family had taken great strides to ensure he never ate food that would make him sick. They say he'd had a few close calls before, and eating out didn't happen very often because of the risk. However, they say the server and the cook at the Minnesota Nice Cafe assured the group that the gluten-free pancakes were also dairy-free, so that was what they ordered for him. Scott's mother also instructed them to thoroughly clean off all the equipment before cooking his food. Unfortunately it wasn't enough.

Scott realized, after eating two pancakes, that he was having an allergic reaction. Unfortunately he didn't have his rescue meds on hand — no inhaler, no EpiPen. By the time they hustled him back home, it was too late, and the meds didn't work. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died three days later.

The family is now moving ahead with a lawsuit against the restaurant, who they say failed to properly address their son's food allergy and incorrectly assured them that there was no milk in the pancakes.

I agree that the restaurant was at fault for not double-checking the ingredients. When you eat out, you have to have a lot of trust — not only that the staff knows about a food allergy, but that they understand the severity. However, I have to ask — why wasn't this family packing an EpiPen? If his allergy was that dangerous and eating out was a rarity, I don't understand why they didn't take extra care to ensure that if he was exposed to dairy they would at least have the tools on hand to possibly save his life right away.

Yes, the restaurant should have done a better job of keeping its young customer safe. They should have gone over the ingredients again, and they should have made sure they thoroughly cleaned the equipment used to prepare his food. Also, don't forget — Scott could have still gotten sick and passed away even if there were EpiPens with him. However, restaurants will often post a notice listing allergens and to "eat at your own risk" if allergens are present, because cross-contamination can be difficult to prevent. It's an unfortunate fact of life for those with food allergies — eating out is almost always a risk.

This story breaks my heart because I happen to have a 16-year-old son with a peanut allergy. I can't imagine the pain this family is going through. I wish it hadn't happened to them. But I hope that other moms and dads can read this story and will always keep their kid's rescue meds on hand at all times so there is less of a chance of this tragedy happening to them.

Now there's an app for censoring everything your kids read

$

Now there's an app for that. Censor the classics, and never look at another swear word again.

Fifty Shades of Grey without all the naughty bits should be pretty good, right?

Clean Reader Logo

Image: Clean Reader

The Clean Reader is a free app that scrubs any questionable words from e-books to keep your screen completely G-rated. You download the app and can even decide how "clean" you want your e-books to be. There are options on the Clean Reader to scrub the text "Clean," "Cleaner" or "Squeaky Clean."

Anyone else completely apoplectic about the idea of kids reading "censored" literature?

The Idaho couple behind the app, Jared and Kirsten Maughan, don't care about anyone's screams over censorship. They developed the app for their daughter, who was a voracious reader. As she moved to more advanced books, the material, her parents say, became too "adult" for her, so they developed the Clean Reader as a solution.

"We've got friends who tell us, 'We've always wanted to read this book, but we didn't want to read all those swear words.' We're hoping this is a win-win: Authors can sell more books."

Clean Reader assassin screen grab

Image: Clean Reader

Um, no.

We live in a time in America when reason and fact are being obscured by people's subjective beliefs. Shakespeare worked blue. Can't we just deal with it and move on? Are we really interested in sanitizing and scrubbing clean the entire world to protect our kids from reality? Are body parts really that scary?

High school biology textbooks are up for religious debate. But at the same time, kids are growing up in a world with literally limitless access to information. Shouldn't we be preparing them for life rather than keeping them from reading books that could change their life and alter their world view in an amazing way?

But, alas, there are still parents who will rejoice at the opportunity to control every word their family has access to. So if you fall into that category, then shoot, you can download the dang Clean Reader app for free on Google Play or on the Apple app store.

The singer is the first black woman to ever become a Dior Girl. It's surprising that it's taken the brand this long to diversify, but better late than never. Hopefully, this is just the brand's first step to incorporating ladies of all different styles and backgrounds.

According to the Huffington Post, Rihanna will be featured in the fourth "Secret Garden" commercial from Dior. The other three have featured stunning models running around the palace of Versailles in gorgeous dresses with flawless hair and makeup.

No doubt Rihanna's commercial will follow suit, and we can't wait to see what the pop star will wear. She will reportedly also appear in a print campaign, to be shot by Steven Klein, as will the commercial. And Dior isn't wasting any time. You can expect all of this to debut later this spring, according to a statement made by a Dior spokesperson this morning.

Though this is Rihanna's first time in the official role of a face for Dior, she's been rocking the brand for years. She's also no stranger to representing a product. Dior has been criticized in the past for only showcasing white models during its runway shows, a trend that persisted until 2013, according to Complex.

Learn to cook in just 24 hours this weekend

This Sunday, March 15, HSN is celebrating the "Ultimate Cooking Lesson", a 24-hour HSN Cooks event hosted by Katie Lee. The Kitchen host will be walking viewers through the entire experience from 2-6 p.m. and featuring lessons from much-loved celebrity chefs, like award-winning Curtis Stone, Restaurant: Impossible host Robert Irvine, Latina restaurateur Lorena Garcia, The Chew host and Top Chef personality Carla Hall and others.

Personally, I am most looking forward to learning how to make Chef Stone's exclusive recipe for seared pepper steak with caramelized Brussels sprouts. But really, with such an all-star lineup, how can you lose out? I'm sure Chef Lee's new Endless Summer Cookbook will feature just as many mouthwatering recipes. And who doesn't love Chef Hall's outgoing personality, Chef Irvine's straightforward recipes and Chef Garcia's healthy Latin eats? I know I do!

When I first learned how to cook years ago, it took celebrity chef personalities like these to get me into the kitchen. Watching them on TV, whether it was competing against others in their field or helping to rebuild failing restaurants, I was thrilled watching them go. The things they could do in the kitchen were amazing. But the inspiring words they gave to viewers were even more amazing.

At the end of the day, that's why I will be tuning in and following along on the #HSNCooks hashtag. It's not because I personally need more kitchen gadgets (please don't tempt me...), but because I want to hear what these chefs have to say. I want to hear their stories, and I want them to remind me why I fell in love with cooking in the first place.

Whether you're an experienced cook (like me) or a novice in the kitchen, can't we all use a little kick in the you-know-what every once in a while? As spring approaches and fresh produce hits the farmers market (and store shelves), I want a push to cook more. And I am pretty sure this will do the trick.

The 19 Kids and Counting family has been sharing vacation photos from their recent trip to Texas, but two pics in particular have raised a few eyebrows. What's the issue? Guns. More specifically, the issue is that a gun was left lying around on the ground while no one seemed to be paying attention to the youngest Duggar child, Josie.

Anna Faris has a surprisingly positive take on the paparazzi

The Mom star — who is a mom herself to 2-year-old Jack — said she and her husband Chris Pratt made a decision to kill them with kindness when it comes to the pesky photographers who follow them around, if only to provide a good example for their son.

"Chris and I took Jack to the train museum," she told Health magazine. "There were paparazzi, but we were just like, 'It's an odd thing that's happening, but let's not stress or stress Jack out. At one point, Chris turned to me and said, 'I don't think I've ever been happier in my whole life.' And I felt the same way."

"Most of them are pretty nice guys, just trying to make a living, and a lot of them are apologetic," she explained. "I think some celebrities are so mean to them and resent them so much. I mostly feel scared just going out without makeup on. But at the same time, I don't want it to force a lifestyle change."

And that means that she won't waste too much time trying to fit into the perfect Hollywood beauty mold — because that time is better spent on family.

"I make sure my roots are good — although right now they're not," she said. "I would love to be in a place where somebody comes to my house and just, like, spray-tans me and does my roots. But I just don't have the patience for it. I don't want to spend my free time doing that stuff. Even with massage these days, I'm like, 'Ugh.' I like to unwind with some wine and movies, and spend time with Chris and Jack."

Here's what happened when my website Femsplain got taken offline

This is the way I've been describing the DDoS attack that took down our website (Femsplain.com) for three hours this past Sunday, International Women's Day.

amber1

amber1

Only a few short days ago I was talking to a friend about how excited I was to have a whole day (23 hours because of daylight savings) to celebrate women's voices.

Sunday came around and I was slowly getting ready to head over and celebrate the International Women's Day march, when one of our contributors sent a message to let me know she couldn't get our website to load. I thought it may have been because our Clinton Foundation "Not There Yet" article was getting lots of traffic, which might have caused it to load slowly. That wasn't the problem. I frantically logged into our analytics dashboard, and to my surprise, saw there were 0 visitors on our website. Femsplain was down.

amber2

amber2

Immediately, I went into reactionary mode and reached out to our volunteer SysAdmin, Stefan Pause, to discuss what we should do. Of course, he was out enjoying his Sunday (as he should be), which is mainly why we were down for so long. He gladly rushed home to help. Along with the attack on our server, our Facebook page was defaced with rude comment after rude comment needing to be deleted (manually). On Twitter, we received an influx of hateful tweets. Some were coming from people claiming to be responsible for the attack and used the hashtag #happyinternationalwomensday. Once our website was brought back up, we had to moderate a few hundred comments that were maliciously left. To make things more annoying, I found a thread with photos from my Facebook page defaced with male body parts Photoshopped on top. I didn't sleep Sunday, and I haven't slept much since.

amber3

amber3

Why did this happen? There have been many attempts to bring us offline, but this one was coming from multiple people and appeared to be an organized attack. At the time, we couldn't afford a server with the bandwidth to fight this. Also, we weren't prepared. We had Cloudflare set up and ready, but not activated. I honestly didn't think this would happen. I mean I had a fear that it would, but, I don't know. I guess I had more faith in men to not try to ruin something good, for once. "But Amber, how are you 100 percent sure it was only men?" LOL.

amber4

amber4

Yes, there is a silver lining to this story. Getting Femsplain back up was frustrating, but we eventually did it. In only a matter of a few short hours, too! During the attacks, we decided to be open on social media because we didn't know how long we would be down. We were being silenced on a day meant to celebrate women's voices, and transparency is very important to us.

amber5

amber5

In response, our community rose up and spoke out on social media about how upset they were. I couldn't even begin to count how many people were talking about us. We stayed positive and optimistic throughout, and it was because of these people cheering us on along the way.

We gained over 2,000 new community members and received more traffic during the two following days than we get in a month. We received donations from people all over the world and were able to purchase things we needed that we didn't have before.

That day was pretty awful, but also a huge learning experience and, I'd like to think, a victory.

Now, we carry on. Because that's what we do.

Taraji P. Henson's explanation of Empire's success is completely on point

More: Who's the hottest Empire brother?

The show, which just aired its Season 1 finale on Wednesday, represents a groundbreaking shift for television — and not just because it features a predominantly black cast. The characters on the show are represented in such a truthful and real way that's it's hard not to be completely hooked.

During a cast panel on Thursday, Henson, who plays Lyon matriarch Cookie, shared why she thinks the show is so significant.

"Love and hate and loss has no color. For me, that's what I was hoping this show would do," Henson said. She then shouted, "Martin Luther King, we made it to the mountaintop!"

Which caused the audience to roar their appreciation in response.

More: 15 Times Cookie stole the show on Empire

And while I do think the cast has a lot to celebrate and should be proud to stand as such a successful show with such a diverse cast, Empire shouldn't be seen as "a black show." It's so much more than that. The story and characters elevate every moment to something that transcends race, as Henson said. And she couldn't have hit the nail more on the head.

"I went from recording in small studios in Philly, to now I'm recording with mega-producers like Timbaland and working with Taraji and Terrence," said Bryshere Gray, who plays the youngest Lyon son, Hakeem. "I'm just absorbing everything right now. I'm like a sponge."

More: Empire: Why Jamal Lyon's story line breaks my heart a little

The show does have incredible musical talent, but it also has meaningful and emotional storylines that have attracted national attention, especially concerning actor Jussie Smollett. Not only did his character Jamal come out on the show recently, Smollett followed suit and officially, publicly came out in real life during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.

It's safe to say Empire is changing entertainment while simultaneously changing lives, and we can't wait for Season 2.

Chris Harrison has some major beef with Bethenny Frankel (VIDEO)

More: Was The Bachelor's Ashley S. faking her craziness?

But The Bachelor host candidly revealed to Access Hollywood that his problem with Frankel is personal.

"I knew her dad. I loved her dad," Harrison revealed. "She didn't love her dad. I loved her dad more. Her dad was a great Hall of Fame horse trainer, Bobby Frankel."

Frankel's father passed away in 2009 after a cancer battle, and their relationship struggles were partially documented on The Real Housewives of New York.

More: Did Becca "the virgin" lose it in Bali?

During an episode in 2010, viewers saw that Bobby initially refused to see his daughter when she flew from New York to Los Angeles to be with him. He eventually had a change of heart, however, and the two got to visit one another before he passed away.

Bethenny did not attend her father's funeral.

Access Hollywood hosts Bush and Hoover seemed surprised by Harrison's response, which came up during the interview because they were playing a game with Harrison, asking him which stars he would or wouldn't date. Frankel received a clear thumbs down.

"I didn't like how she treated her dad after he passed away," Harrison continued, shaking a finger and telling the hosts to switch photos, almost as though he didn't want to even look at her anymore. "No, no, switch," he said when hosts Billy Bush and Kit Hoover tried to ask him more questions about Frankel.

Harrison was much nicer about the other ladies in the lineup. He described Kris Jenner as a "great friend" and an "awesome person." He also knows Denise Richards, who he said is "great and I love her." Sandra Bullock and Kristen Wiig also received positive responses from Harrison, who split with his wife in 2012.

How we conquered Florence as a family

Family tours

So, how do you conquer a city overflowing with history and culture? Context Travel offers interactive 2.5 hour "urban walking seminars" for families. We met our docent in the sun-dappled Piazza della Signoria for a "Symbols and Legends" tour. Elizabeth wasted no time befriending my 11- and 7-year-old. As they perused the Renaissance sculptures, she handed them a chisel and hunk of marble so they could experience the art form. Then we set off. Our tour was structured as a treasure hunt. We walked the ancient streets pausing to uncover hard-to-spot carvings and mythological images that shed light on life in Renaissance Florence. All of the information was recorded in journals supplied by the docent.

We ended up at the Duomo where the importance of the edifice and the Ghiberti doors were explained to the kids in a magical and engaging way. Finding a non-tourist trap restaurant in this area is a challenge. We had one of the best lunches on our trip at Trattoria San Lorenzo, a delightful old-school eatery that serves up fresh pasta and Panini in a snap.

Another wonderful experience is the Secret Doors of Palazzo Vecchio, a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the Medici's private residences. My kids loved scrambling up musty secret passages and visiting the elaborate ducal apartments. The Palazzo Pitti, Galileo Museum, Uffizzi and Leonardo da Vinci Museum also offer kid-specific guided tours. A hotel concierge can book these tours for guests.

Leather

As a fashion gal, scoring top drawer leather is essential in Florence. How, you wonder, to get the kids engaged in such a seemingly boring endeavor? Florence is brimming with outstanding leather houses that sell Madison Avenue quality products. Most of them offer gorgeous "made in Florence” embossed journals. If you ask nicely (and spend enough money) they will stamp gold initials on the leather. So, while mom and dad hunt down wallets, jackets and shoes, kids can score an awesome souvenir. Tucked behind Santa Croce is another must-visit leather emporium, the world famous Scuola del Cuoio. Here, you can visit the traditional workshops and watch craftsmen engrave leather desk sets and weave handbags. Not only can you buy outstanding quality merchandise (I bought two leather bangles and a wallet!), but you can teach the children the difference between handmade and mass-produced objects.

Food

The food is so excellent in Florence that there is no need to pre-plan meals. Major squares and landmarks are generally filled with tourist trap (this is evident by pictures and descriptions of entrees) eateries. My advice is to walk a few blocks away from these landmarks to find the most authentic food. Often, the most humble cafes serve the most delightful dishes.

The 10 absolute rules of parenting

$
0

Beyond these parenting basics, there are a few unspoken parenting rules among those who have spent some time in the trenches. There are 10 commandments you can always count on once you become a parent.

1. One post-baby drink will knock you on your ass

Buster

Image: Giphy

Pop out a baby, and suddenly, you're a cheap date — whee! The downside is that even a few drinks will give you a monstrous hangover in the morning.

2. Any home-cooked meal you make for your toddler will be thrown on the floor

Toddler food

Image: Giphy

Your child will welcome crappy, processed chicken nuggets with open arms. Try to make the same dish from scratch, and it will end up on the floor every time.

3. The one time your kids sleep in, your body clock will wake you up two hours early

Coffee

Image: Giphy

Even when the opportunity presents itself, you probably won't enjoy a real morning of sleeping in until your kids leave for college.

4. You will run out of coffee the morning after your teething baby keeps you up all night

More coffee

Image: Giphy

And your husband will take the car with the baby seat so that you can't run to Starbucks for emergency fuel.

5. You will cry at sappy long-distance commercials

Johnny Depp

Image: Giphy

Do they even make long-distance commercials anymore? Just know that every time you see a child calling his grandparents on TV, you will wipe a single tear from your eye.

6. You will be "that parent" who tells the cliché kid stories you vowed to never tell your friends

RHONJ

Image: Giphy

You swore you would never talk to your single friends about your kids learning to walk, talk and use the potty, but more often than not, it happens. Show your remorse by buying the next round of drinks.

7. Your child will always get sick on a holiday

Sick kid

Image: Giphy

If it is Christmas, a birthday or any other special event, your child will always, always wake up sick. I'm still waiting for the day when my 3-year-old can open presents without a rattling cough and runny nose.

8. Your child will be sick at every well-check appointment

Mindy

Image: Giphy

What is the sound of one hand clapping? What is the point of a well-check when your child is always sick? The world may never know.

9. As soon as you start to like one annoying kid's cartoon, your child will declare that they hate it

Caillou

Image: Giphy

Once you finally embrace the bald-headed annoyance that is Caillou, your kids will protest him. Go figure.

10. Your child will only sleep in the car when you are racing home for nap time

Naptime

Image: Giphy

Plan for your kids to sleep on a road trip, and they will scream for hours. Try to speed home in rush-hour traffic to make nap time, and they'll knock out in five minutes — only to jump in their crib for hours.

More: 3 Elle Macpherson secrets to being the hottest grandma on the planet

The Australian wellness blogger, who just launched a recipe and lifestyle app called The Whole Pantry along with a debut book, is being accused of going way, way too far.

According to The Guardian, her claims that her healthy lifestyle turned around a diagnosis of terminal brain cancer were never verified and might not be true at all.

The Guardian says the book describes how Gibson "began a journey of self-education that resulted in her getting back to basics as she set out to heal herself through nutrition and lifestyle changes." But her publisher never actually verified that the 23-year-old author had cancer.

"We did not feel this was necessary as The Whole Pantry is a collection of food recipes, which Penguin has published in good faith," a spokesperson for the publisher told The Daily Mail. "We are concerned about the questions raised in recent days — we'll discuss them with Belle as ultimately only she can answer the questions."

More: Honey Boo Boo horribly exploited in televised "weight intervention"

Last year, E! News reports, Gibson claimed her brain cancer had spread to her kidneys, uterus, spleen and blood. Now, she's saying she may have been misdiagnosed.

I’m still going through understanding what’s happening with my body,” she said, according to The Australian.

Then there's the app, which was supposed to raise money for charities. The Whole Pantry admitted this week it has "cash flow problems," according to E!, and the site reports those promised donations were never made.

Amid all the controversy, former fans of Gibson are taking to social media to express their disappointment.

Pamela Anderson may be latest victim of domestic violence

More: Pamela Anderson cops to insecurities that every woman has

After a roller coaster of divorce filings, Anderson has secured a temporary restraining order against her husband, E! News reports. The site says that in the restraining order, Anderson claims her husband "engaged in repeated acts of harassment and abuse" that caused her to experience "severe emotional distress." It says he can't contact her in any way at least until April 3, when a hearing will determine whether the order is extended.

The order was filed Friday in the Superior Court of Los Angeles.

E! News obtained a copy of the order and says it includes an attached declaration in which Anderson references "physical abuse in the past" and says Salomon is still committing acts that are defined as types of abuse under the Domestic Violence Protection Act.

More: Pam Anderson changes her mind, divorce off

Anderson also says Salomon has accessed her private information, including emails, and that he has taken photos of her without her knowledge that he threatens to release to the public. Those, along with information he has threatened to release as well, could cause "shock, embarrassment and distress," Anderson alleges.

In her statement, Anderson describes a number of shocking events. She says she threw Salomon a party to celebrate his sixth year of sobriety in January and that, upon their arrival back home, he got angry, called her "crack whore" and "bitch" and shouted, "Go upstairs, you ugly, dirty bitch."

She also says that, later that month, Salomon put a pillow over her face while they were having sex and attempted to strangle her.

More: Pamela Anderson thinks her marriage is normal

Anderson filed for divorce on Feb. 11. It's the third time total that she's filed for divorce from Salomon and the second time during this, their second marriage. Following their split in February, Anderson's rep told E! News, "It's a private matter. Pamela felt best to let go of a difficult situation."
