This 1 word trips up Benedict Cumberbatch every time (VIDEO)

As the actor narrates a BBC documentary about the South Pacific, he is clearly heard struggling to say "penguin" correctly, repeating it in several different wonky ways.

SK Confessional: I'm obsessed with Benedict Cumberbatch, and here's why

The video begins with some adorable penguins walking in a wooded area as Cumberbatch describes their way of living. "These 'penwins,'" he narrates.

Then, different clips are shown where Cumberbatch keeps saying the word in several incorrect ways, including "pengwings," "crested pengwings," and "parent 'pengwen' going home."

The British star continues, "Why are these woodlands so attractive to 'penglings'?"

For some reason, our esteemed Sherlock star just can't get the pronunciation right on this word. But we love him just the same, and he actually sounds adorable, coming up with all these versions of "penguin" in the nature program.

Photographic evidence Benedict Cumberbatch was a nerd god at Comic-Con

But Cumberbatch may really have to try working on the word. He has landed a voice role in the new animated Madagascar spin-off, which is called — no joke — Penguins of Madagascar. Should they change the title to Penglings of Madagascar?

No doubt, this could pose a serious challenge for our beloved Mr. Cumberbatch.

Meanwhile, Cumberbatch stole fans' hearts when he recently posed as Mr. Darcy for the Give Up Clothes For Good campaign, which helps raise money for cancer research. In the photo, Cumberbatch is wading waist-deep in a lake as he sexily unbuttons his shirt.

His picture, along with a slew of other actors' shots, was showcased in an exhibition at La Galleria Pall Mall earlier this month.

You can listen to Cumebrbatch struggle with the word "penguin" over and over again in the video below.

Power Wheels: My kids have a nicer ride than I do

Power wheels | Sheknows.com

The other day an enormous semi-truck stopped traffic in front of my house and delivered a box approximately the size of my living room. It contained shiny blue pieces of the new Power Wheels Ford 2015 F-150 truck. What does this mean, exactly? It means Christmas is ruined. Nothing I get my boys will be as awesome as this swanky motorized ride-on toy. It has an MP3 player, people. I don't know about you but my childhood dream was to own a Power Wheels, and I never did. Now I own one, and it's making my 2010 Dodge Journey feel pretty insecure. Is this thing expensive? Yes. Is utterly awesome? Also yes. It took me about 45 minutes to build with the "help" of my 5-year-old. My 8-year-old and 5-year-old are able to ride together while blasting Imagine Dragons from my iPhone. Life is good. (Walmart, $350)

Zipz Wine: The only thing better than wine is portable wine

Zipz wine | Sheknows.com

If you've ever attended a picnic, barbecue or parent-teacher conference, you know that the only missing ingredient was wine. Zipz Wine has the solution to every wine-on-the-go problem — shatterproof, single-serving wine. It's like those juice-box wine boxes, except way classier. Because it has a stem. I'm no sommelier, but I tried two reds and loved them and subsequently dispatched a lot of semi-coherent tweets about hugging the internet. I have two boys who tend to knock over everything ever, so I love that Zipz look like a legit wine glass without all that pesky breakage. Cheers! (Zipz Wine, $40)

Celestial Buddies: If you don't want to hug a planet, we can't be friends

Celestial buddies | Sheknows.com

My son has been obsessed with space since he was 2. And I'm not being one of those "oh my kid learned French and Swahili when he was 10 months old" moms, I'm dead serious. The kid can't get enough of the cold, terrifying depths of space and the infinite capacity of our universe — and honestly it kind of makes me reach for my smelling salts because space scares the crap out of me. However, Celestial Buddies don't scare me. They're adorable. We have Jupiter and the spot is his nose. I dare you to find a cuter space toy. Don't tell anyone, but my third grader sleeps with his every night. (Celestial Buddies, $26)

Hervana: Blush you can dash on when you're late to everything

Hervana | Sheknows.com

I go through rare makeup phases. Those phases are called when I actually have a date. The rest of the time, I don't bother with much makeup. My only absolute go-to must-have-no-matter-what makeup is Hervana, a Benefit blush that's super foolproof and ultra flattering. I wear this every day. It hides the appearance of barely-concealed rage, sleepless nights, the lingering terror of almost rushing out the door with no pants on and a host of other imperfections. Seriously though, it's the perfect barely-there healthy blush and every mom should have it in her arsenal. (Benefit, $28)

The writer received the Power Wheels, Celestial Buddies and Zipz Wine from the respective brands so that she could try out the products. All opinions expressed in the article are based on the reviewer's own assessments of the products.

15 Banned books you should totally let your kids read

$

I don't know about you, but the minute someone tells me I can't have something, I immediately need to have that thing, no matter what it takes or how many lollipops I have to snatch from adorable babies. That's why, when I heard about the concept of banned books as a kid, I went and checked one out from my library pronto. As soon as I started reading it, I didn't get what was so terrible about it. I purposefully checked out Lady Chatterly's Lover because someone told me it was banned due to sexy bits, and it turns out that it was boring like whoa.

The fact is, there's no such thing as bad publicity, so the more someone gets worked up about how The Lorax isn't suitable for children because it "criminalizes the forest industry" (pause for enormous eyeroll accompanied by a loud sigh) the more determined I am to let my child read that book.

Of course, it works the other way around, too. Once a book becomes too popular, some parents want to know what kind of black seductive magic it contains. Take The Fault In Our Stars, by John Green. It's one of the most popular books in recent memory, so of course a group of parents in Los Angeles want to see it yanked from middle school shelves. Why? Because of a very brief, very vanilla passage wherein two kids with cancer have sex. The mom leading the charge to pull the book said that, "she didn’t want to 'come off as a prude' or block anyone's freedom to read."

Here's a spot of news for her: You do and you are. Stop it.

So, in honor of Banned Book Week, here's a bunch of books that people think your children shouldn't be exposed to, which is why you need to go get them right now.

Books for little kids

1. Strega Nona by Tomie dePaola

Strega Nona by Tomie dePaola | Sheknows.com

Strega Nona was banned for being a spell-casting witchcraft-loving devil woman shilling Satan to kids before it was cool. It's also a fun story about way too much spaghetti. (Amazon, $9)

2. Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne

Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne | Sheknows.com

Believe it or not, A.A. Milne's classic books have been challenged or banned as recently as 2006 because talking animals are an "affront to God." You truly can not make this kind of thing up. (Amazon, $23)

3. Yertle the Turtle by Dr. Seuss

Yertle the Turtle by Dr. Seuss | Sheknows.com

It isn't a secret that Theodore Giesel, aka Dr. Seuss, wrote children's books with deeper meanings, not unlike all of those dick and fart jokes in all of the Shrek movies, only way less lame, obviously. But did you know that some morons in British Columbia recently banned Yertle the Turtle for the following line? "I know up on top you are seeing great sights, but down here at the bottom, we too should have rights." What a controversial idea. (Amazon, $12)

4. Sylvester and the Magic Pebble by William Steig

Sylvester and the Magic Pebble | Sheknows.com

Sylvester was banned because the police in the book are literal pigs. I guess we're really doing this, huh? We're just going to ignore that the main character is a literal jackass, but head straight into a tantrum about pig cops. Huh. Okay, then. (Amazon, $6)

5. Heather Has Two Mommies by Lesléa Newman

Heather Has Two Mommies by Lesléa Newman | Sheknows.com

Do you really have to guess why this book was banned? Read it to your kids anyway because eff that noise. (Amazon, $8)

Books for tweens

6. James and The Giant Peach by Roald Dahl

James and The Giant Peach by Roald Dahl | Sheknows.com

Not gonna lie, this Roald Dahl book is a smidge depressing. But the book is surprisingly challenged more often for "encouraging disobedience to parents" and "magical elements" than for the depiction of the abuse James suffers at the hands of his gross aunts. (Amazon, $4)

7. The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling | Sheknows.com

Banned for all of the witchcraft and wizardry, which is also coincidentally a great reason to get it for your kids. (Amazon, $7)

8. My Brother Sam Is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier

My Brother Sam Is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier | Sheknows.com

This work of historical fiction is most often challenged for its portrayal of "excessive violence." Apparently parents imagine that children will never deduce that war is bloody without the corrupting influence of good books. Because kids are stupid or something. (Amazon, $6)

9. Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George

Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George | Sheknows.com

This book is challenged due to the scene between Julie and Daniel, where Daniel attempts to rape his wife. Still one of my favorite books, and I maintain that I chose motherhood because of my preadolescent desire to live with a pack of wolves. (Amazon, $7)

10. Anne Frank: The Diary of A Young Girl

Anne Frank: The Diary of A Young Girl | Sheknows.com

This is actually banned for "pornographic passages." Let that sink in. Heart-wrenching firsthand account of one of the greatest atrocities in human history? Meh. Masturbation? Whoa, put on the brakes! (Amazon, $13)

Books for teens

11. The Absolutely True Diary of A Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

The Absolutely True Diary of A Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie | Sheknows.com

This is one of the most banned and challenged books of the year, and if that doesn't make you curious about what wonders lie between its pages, you are dead inside. Yes, it has profanity. But I promise it won't be the first time your teenager is exposed to the F-word. It might be their first exposure to a Native author, which is just one of the many, many reasons why you should get it. (Amazon, $14)

12. The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbovsky | Sheknows.com

People think this book will give your kid The Gay. If you think that's how The Gay works, you don't deserve this book anyway. (Amazon, $5)

13. Basically anything by Toni Morrison

Basically anything by Toni Morrison | Sheknows.com

Constantly badass, constantly banned. The Bluest Eye, Beloved, Song of Solomon... if Morrison wrote it, some verklempt suburban tightass banned it. That alone is reason enough to read it. (Amazon, $9)

14. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold | Sheknows.com

Banned because by reading it, your child might realize that rape is a thing. Wouldn't want that, now would we? (Amazon, $3)

15. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury | Sheknows.com

Included here for the irony. People banned a book about banning (and burning) books. What better way to give those people a big metaphorical middle finger, the likes of which would make Ray Bradbury proud? (Amazon, $9)

Snooki welcomes a baby girl: Find out her Italian baby name

After revealing she has been "Googling like a nut for unique Italian names," Snooki announced via Twitter the arrival of her daughter and the sweet Italian name they settled on.

Snooki tweet

Snooki tweet

Giovanna is an Italian name that means "gift from God." According to the Social Security Administration, Giovanna peaked in 2001 when it was ranked as the 636th most popular girl name. It currently stands at number 962 on the chart.

This feminine name can easily be shortened to a cute nickname such as Gio, Gia or Gianna.

Why did Snooki pick the name Giovanna Marie? Besides it meeting her criteria of being Italian, Snooki's rep told TMZ that there is no special meaning behind the name, that she just liked the sound of it. Snooki and her fiancé, Jionni, are also parents to a 2-year-old son that also has the Italian name of Lorenzo.

Do you also love the sound of Italian names? Similar girl names along the same line as Snooki's baby name choice include Giada, Gabriella, Rosalie, Adriana and Bianca. Italian baby names are a great choice because they are unique, yet have a romantic and exotic sound to them.

In case you want to see more of Snooki (and we mean a lot more), she filmed the birth and TMZ is reporting that it will air on her MTV reality show Snooki & JWoww. The baby reportedly came a tad early, however Snooki said she had an easy delivery.

Tell us: Do you like the name Giovanna? Weigh in below.

I know it sounds weird, but it totally worked. It was this perfect balance of sweet, tart and back-of-your-mouth burn. Since then, I have been incorporating more and more heat into my desserts. This pound cake starts off simple enough with the addition of lemon and olive oil, and is kicked up a notch by a sprinkle of cayenne pepper. Your friends will be begging for the recipe.

Olive oil pound cake with lemon cayenne glaze

Olive oil pound cake with lemon-cayenne glaze recipe

Adapted from The Noshery

Yields 1

Ingredients:

For the cake

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white whole-wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 lemon, zested
  • 1/3 cup whole-fat plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

For the glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest
  • Pinch cayenne pepper

Directions:

For the cake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, and spray a 9 x 5-inch bread pan with nonstick cooking spray. You can also use 9 x 5-inch parchment baking liners (this is what I used).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, the white whole-wheat flour, baking powder, kosher salt, baking soda and desired amount of cayenne pepper. Set aside.
  3. To a medium-size mixing bowl, add the sugar, olive oil, eggs and lemon zest. Whisk together until smooth, and set it aside.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, lemon juice and vanilla bean paste.
  5. Switching back and forth, stir the olive oil and the Greek yogurt mixture into the flour mixture. Stir until smooth, and pour into the prepared baking dish or parchment baking liner.
  6. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
  7. Let cool, and then top with lemon-cayenne glaze.

For the glaze

  1. To a small bowl, add the powdered sugar, at least 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, the lemon zest and cayenne pepper.
  2. Whisk together, and add more lemon juice if needed to thin the glaze.

The Stella sisters are bumped to series regulars

Admittedly, we weren't sure what to make of Maisy and Lennon when they sang on Nashville for the very first time. However, they've become one of our favorite parts of the show. It's easy for grown-ups to get on stage and bellow along to their favorite songs. It's another thing for a 15-year-old and an 11-year-old to do it. And they do it well, too! Maisy is the younger sister and sings some pretty mature songs sometimes. She never appears to sing just for the sake of singing, though. The meaning and emotion is clearly felt in her voice. She's either a really great actress or a super deep kid. Or, you know, maybe both. Meanwhile, Lennon's voice has a sweet and unique tone to it that we could easily listen to all dang day. It's crazy that these girls have been relegated to occasional songs on Nashville and one foreign commercial. We want a full-length album and we want it now.

Are Wiz Khalifa's tweets directed at Amber Rose?

Amber Rose puts Wiz Khalifa on blast for cheating

Just Wednesday, news hit that Khalifa's wife of about one year, model Amber Rose, had filed for a divorce from the rapper. Obviously, fans took straight to social media to express their thoughts about the split, some even circulating rumors that the breakup was caused by cheating on Rose's part.

But then, on Thursday, Rose fired back against those rumors with a couple of tweets that accused Khalifa of being the unfaithful one.

"Please stop with the fake stories. I would never ever ever cheat on my husband in a million years I think u guys know this," she wrote, and then followed up with another tweet, saying, "Unfortunately my now ex husband can't say the same…"

Did Nick Cannon break up another marriage besides his own?

But it was only an hour before Khalifa took to Twitter himself. Considering the public attention surrounding his crumbling marriage, the singer's two tweets were remarkably calm.

“Today is a magical day for many of us. Let it be yours too,” he wrote, following the tweet with a photo of himself and his dog, captioned "Smile for the day."

What's still majorly unclear is whether Khalifa's overly positive tweets are directed at Rose or his impending divorce. He doesn't mention either specifically, but that seems like a suspiciously perky attitude for someone in Khalifa's position.

Then again, maybe he's just trying to look on the bright side of things. There's nothing wrong with keeping a positive attitude in the face of hardship, Wiz!

5 Reasons we did not see the Amber Rose, Wiz Khalifa split coming

What do you think? Is Wiz Khalifa subtly addressing his wife's allegations that he cheated by telling her it's not getting him down? Or is he just trying to have the best day he can under the circumstances? Tell us your take in the comments!

There is a serious problem if your child is spanking her baby doll

$
0
0

I was spanked often as a young child, but as a parent, I refuse to spank my kids. The funny thing is that getting spanked as a child didn’t necessarily turn me off of spanking forever — in fact, the opposite is true. I automatically assumed that I would spank my kids because my parents spanked me. This is an assumption that I believe many parents make, until they take the time to question their parenting choices.

After some soul-searching as a new parent, I realized that spanking is not and will never be for me or my children. With even a small amount of research, it becomes clear that spanking is detrimental and unnecessary.

I am not always a fan of Dr. Sears, but I agree with him unequivocally when he states that hitting models hitting. “There is a classic story about the mother who believed in spanking as a necessary part of discipline until one day she observed her three-year-old daughter hitting her one-year-old son. When confronted, her daughter said, ‘I’m just playing mommy.’ This mother never spanked another child.”

This may seem like a basic example, but the effects and uses of spanking can quickly snowball into a more serious problem. One blog in particular describes a parent’s extreme use of spanking with methods like “spanking a baby to sleep.”

The parent referenced in the blog discusses how his young daughter interacts with her own baby doll, “What was interesting is the role she assumed with her baby. In her imagination the baby started crying after being given a command. She scolded her baby, turned her over and spanked her. She then spoke comforting, reassuring words and praised her baby for being good.”

I find this passage very, very disturbing. I’m not a supporter of spanking, but I understand that for many parents, it may happen at one time or another. However, I think there is a serious problem when a child starts mimicking this physical behavior, by hitting a sibling or spanking their own baby doll in private.

Whenever the topic of spanking comes up, parents who spank are quick to rise to the defense. I totally understand that no parent wants to feel attacked for their personal decisions. All I am saying is this: Watch your kids closely for these subtle effects of spanking. A child acting out by hitting is only following your example.

Jenelle Evans to get custody of her son back after drug woes

$

Teen Mom Catelynn Lowell confirms she's expecting again

In the clip shown on Radar Online, Barbara Evans very clearly outlines her concerns about giving back now 5-year-old Jace. Those concerns range from issues involving Jenelle's current boyfriend, Nathan Griffith, to being afraid that Jace will have abandonment issues. However, Barbara also makes it clear that she feels Jenelle has grown up enough to take on the responsibility of being a parent. Good thing: Jenelle gave birth to her second child in June.

Though Barbara seems confident that her daughter has matured, there are still a lot of red flags around Jenelle's recent behavior. Just a little over a year ago, she was arrested for heroin possession and assault. The run-in with the law came just one month after Jenelle stayed a mere week in rehab, saying when she left that she didn't think she needed it. Two months prior to rehab, she was married for less than a month to a man named Courtland Rogers, who was arrested on felony charges the day of their December 2012 nuptials. In May of 2012, she was briefly engaged to another man, who allegedly beat her.

Jenelle may have gotten her act together since her drug possession and assault charges, but that doesn't necessarily mean she's ready to take on motherhood. Earlier this week, she came under fire when social media followers revealed that she is continuing to smoke cigarettes while nursing her new baby.

Smoking as you are breastfeeding, while not the best thing a mom can do, is definitely not an offense that should get your child taken away from you. However, there are more disturbing issues raised in the Teen Mom 2 trailer revolving around Jenelle's current boyfriend's demeanor when drinking. "I'm trying to tell him, and you, that it's a huge concern," Barbara says in the clip of Griffith's alcohol use. "I just don't understand. Every time I try to talk to Nathan, he goes on the defense. It's like, why can't he just be a man and talk like an adult without getting furious?" Griffith doesn't deny that there's a problem. "I will admit, when I do drink, I do drink a little bit too much," he says. "And that's why I try to cut down." So Griffith willingly admits that he drinks too much and Jenelle is a recovering heroin addict. Not a good combo.

Then there's the heartbreaking question that Barbara raises: how will Jace feel about the custody transition? For virtually his entire life, he's known Barbara as his mother. "I'll miss him terribly, but he's not my child," the grandmother says through tears. "But it will break my heart to have him feel like I abandoned him. Like I just threw him away." Custody battles are too complicated for a 5-year-old to understand, but at the same time, Jace is old enough to have developed a strong attachment to the woman who has raised him. Barbara's fear that Jace will think she's abandoning him is a valid concern.

While Jenelle has definitely been under the microscope and received some unfair criticism, the cold hard fact is that she doesn't have an amazing track record. Many of Jenelle's social media supporters are arguing that she has grown up and that it's human to make mistakes. However, part of being a grown-up is realizing that you need to let go of something you want intensely for the well-being of your child.

Listen up, men: Sheryl Crow would love to be married

The two singers, who are both over 50 now, talked about life, love, cancer and sex. Etheridge, who is married to Nurse Jackie creator Linda Wallem, said, "The sex is better! Seriously, I'm healthier, and in loving myself, I attract a different kind of person now."

The magazine points out how much the two women have in common, including that both are mothers who have not given birth. According to E! News, Etheridge has four children — with former partners Tammy Lynn Michaels and Julie Cypher — and Crow has two children, both adopted.

Etheridge overcame breast cancer after being diagnosed in 2004. Crow had experience with cancer, from a different side, as the girlfriend of cyclist Lance Armstrong — who founded the Livestrong Foundation.

"He was probably the most widely known cancer survivor, right? It was kind of a cruel joke," Crow said, explaining that she was diagnosed with breast cancer soon after she and Armstrong broke up.

Five stars who've battled breast cancer

But both Crow and Etheridge called cancer a "gift" and said they wouldn't be the people they are today without the trials they have been through in their lives.

"It took having cancer for me to realize that happiness is something I have to cultivate in myself," Crow said.

Etheridge added that she "learned to make fearless choices. You come up against stuff now and you're like, 'All right! Just do it!'"

Tyler Perry's Temptation explores nature of desire

According to People, Williams made the announcement while filming the Sept. 30 episode of the Queen Latifah Show.

"Vanessa, I have been trying to have a conversation with you ladies and gents, but I am blinded by the light coming from that bling ring on your finger," Latifah said to Williams.

"Oh, sorry, darling," Williams answered. "I got engaged. I have had a lot of good things happen. I turned 50 when we were in rehearsal on Broadway, I just got engaged a couple of weeks ago. It has been a lot of blessings."

Williams recently revealed to Oprah her childhood trauma and is working to move past that and get on with her life, and it looks like she is doing it with fiancé Jim Skrip.

The third time may be the charm for the actress, who has been married twice before. She met Skrip halfway around the world — even though their homes are closer than they realized.

"He's a guy I met a year and a half ago when I was on vacation with my daughter in Egypt," Williams said pre-engagement, according to Us Weekly. "You go across the world to find somebody who's six hours away."

"He was in real estate and, back in the day, he was an accountant."

Drake and old flame RiRi may not be enemies after all

It's something we've wondered since the first time we peppered our text messages with hearts, food and smiling poop. The reason the stakes are so much higher now? Drake got it tattooed on his arm!

An Instagram snap from Los Angeles tattoo artist Dr. Woo revealed Drake's new ink. It looks like he got two new tats at Dr. Woo's studio, Hollywood's Shamrock Social Club: an inspirational quote on his left forearm that reads, "Everything happens for a reason sweet thing," and the number 6 next to the emoji hands on his right forearm.

Drake's emoji tattoo

Drake's emoji tattoo

The 6 is easy — it stands for Toronto, where Drake is originally from. The emoji, though? So much more confusing.

PHOTOS: Drake, Nicki Minaj and her anaconda get way too sexual on Instagram

Before we debate the obvious question — whether it's a good idea to get an emoji permanently emblazoned on your skin — we seriously need to figure out what this is supposed to be.

E! News thinks it has the whole thing figured out. Based on "investigative journalism," E! reports that it's definitely praying hands. Why? Because the thumbs are pressed together.

"When you high-five someone, do you or do you not slap with opposite hands? You do, because high-fiving someone's left hand with your left hand (or vice versa) is awkward," E! writes. "So, with that in mind, the two thumbs wouldn't be on the same side. Case closed."

But hold up. Think about high-fiving someone. When is the last time you high-fived with opposite hands? You can't remember, right? Because E! News is wrong. It is definitely more awkward to cross-body high five with opposite hands than it is to casually slap palms left-to-left (or right-to-right).

So the mystery remains. Please, Drake, clear this up for us. We can't stand not knowing, and you're our only hope.

Ricky Martin's son asked him if he was in his belly

Ricky Martin honored by GLAAD

Martin spoke with radio host Luisa Fernanda on Univision MIX 98.3 recently and talked about his 6-year-old children. He's working to answer the questions they have begun to ask about where they came from.

Martin’s twins Matteo and Valentino were born in 2008 to a gestational surrogate, and the singer decided to put his career on hiatus for his children. He said they have been asking "difficult question[s]," and Fernanda asked him what was the most difficult question they have ever asked.

"'Dad, was I in your belly?' and I told him, 'you were in my heart and you are still in my heart,'" Martin recounted, according to the Huffington Post. "So I explained further, because I couldn't just leave it at that: 'There was a woman that I adore with all my heart that helped me bring you into this world. She lent me her belly so that you could come and when you were born she put you in my arms.' And he said 'ah, OK,' and he kept playing."

Martin, who split from his boyfriend Carlos Gonzales at the end of 2013, was recently in the news with a rumor he was about to welcome a baby girl. But Martin said, "You have to be careful what you say because they asked me, 'would you like to have a daddy's girl?' and I said 'of course.' The next day they said, 'Ricky is going to be the father of a little girl!'"

Party like it's '00 with Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera

But that doesn't mean Martin isn't looking forward to having more children in the future, and it sounds like he would be more than happy to have a girl on the way.

"If you ask me if I want to be the father of a little girl, [I'll say] not one, four!'" Martin said. "I'm just getting started with this fatherhood thing and I'm going for more. I come from a big family and I like noise and chaos in my house."

Harvard students can now take a class in Beyoncé

Emma Watson, Victoria Beckham wow with UN speeches

The prestigious school is home to a group of scholars who are publishing a case study based on — you guessed it — Queen Bey. More specifically, they're studying her now-infamous surprise self-titled album, which dropped in December of last year. And by "dropped," we mean Bey just dropped it on iTunes at midnight and went on her way, while the rest of the world woke up and lost its collective s***.

The study is set to look at how Bey was able to pull off eschewing the standard music industry procedures that come with releasing a new album: advertisements, public appearances, singles, or, you know, maybe even just mentioning it at some point.

Beyoncé shows off her baby bump and wedding deets

The study is being conducted by Harvard Business School professor Anita Elberse and her former student, Stacie Smith. It will also be taught as part of a Strategic Marketing in Creative Industries course next month.

"She's clearly among the most powerful people in the music industry at the moment... so to understand the operation behind such a powerful figure is always very interesting," Elberse told the Harvard Gazette. "I think most people regard this release as a huge success artistically, and I am among them. But whether it was worth it from a business perspective is for the students to figure out."

Um, we're going to go with yes. The release was Bey's fifth consecutive record to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Business Week reports it sold more than 800,000 copies in its first three days, smashing iTunes' previous record for fastest-selling album.

What is going on with Beyoncé's wonky thigh gap?

If you don't want to take our word for it, though, that's OK, because those Harvard students are on the case.

You don't have to give up your identity to become a mom

$

You don't have to lose your identity when you become a mom. As a new mom, I know how hard it can be to keep your head above water and preserve your individuality with young children under your roof. You don't have any time for yourself. You don't even get to watch your favorite TV shows anymore — instead, Sesame Street runs on a loop all day long as you stack blocks with your toddler. This was never my idea of a fun Friday night.

I remember my early 20s pre-mom self, and I remember her well. In my 20s, I was wracked with anxiety and insecurity, like most other young women my age. But I still had a great time. I had an active social life while I was working in a restaurant; I partied, I dated and I mostly have no regrets.

Fast-forward just a few years later, and I am really enjoying what motherhood has turned me into. Becoming a mother to two young boys forced me to face my anxieties and come to terms with many things that I don't like about myself. I didn't have to change who I was to tap into this self-acceptance. I just had to be myself.

In her Washington Post piece, Carrington Tarr describes how she gave up her identity to become a mother and doesn't miss the old version of herself. She says, "But it was uncanny how, with no kids to feed, direct and drive around, I was still figuring out a way to be with them anyway... What I hadn't truly appreciated is how my role as a mother isn't merely a role, it's embedded in my being. It's what I do and think about most of the time, directly and indirectly."

I agree with what Tarr is saying in theory — but not entirely. I am a mother to two young children, and I still take time for myself. I go out on dates with my husband, I party with friends sometimes and we plan vacations alone.

Being with my kids is the highlight of my day, and I think about them nonstop when we are apart. But separate identities are good for all of us. My kids thrive when they spend a weekend with Grandma and realize that we will always love them and come back.

I'm a mom now, and it is part of who I am but not my whole identity. I'm still fun, I'm still spontaneous, and I'm still social. The "old me" didn't die when I had kids — she just got better with age.

Bryan Cranston scares teen girl into going to prom

Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston is the latest of the rich and famous to show their big hearts by reaching out to a terminally ill teenage fan. Brad Joyner, 19, who was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in March, has three items on his bucket list, according to Yahoo! Celebrity. One of those bucket-list items was meeting Cranston. After Joyner's wish went viral and word got back to Cranston, the two had a 30-minute Skype conversation followed by ice cream for Joyner's entire neighborhood, courtesy of the actor who played Walter White.

Heartwarming instances like these may seem few and far between, but the truth is that there are a gaggle of celebrities out there who are all about putting their good fortune back into the universe. For every self-indulgent move made by Justin Bieber, there's a feminist speech being made at the UN by Emma Watson. For every fan-shaming, small-minded demand made by Kanye West at one of his concerts, there's a huge donation being made by Leonardo DiCaprio, who fights hard for the environment.

Here's a closer look at some of the good deeds other celebs have recently done that echo Cranston's kindness.

1. Jon Heder sends a personalized message to young leukemia patient

Earlier this month, Heder caught wind that 12-year-old Mary Elizabeth Paris was keeping herself occupied in the hospital while waiting for a bone marrow transplant by watching Napoleon Dynamite on repeat. Heder wasted no time jumping back into character and recording a hilarious message for Paris.

2. Miley Cyrus sends well wishes to a fan moments before she passes

In June, Cyrus sent a very sincere and heartfelt video message to 12-year-old Caley Camarillo, who endured a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis. Camarillo's mother, Teresa, said her daughter viewed the message about an hour before she died. "We have a video of Caley watching the vid that we will save for ourselves," Teresa wrote on her Facebook. "She managed to let out a smile. I take great comfort in this for some reason."

3. Ed Sheeran sings final lullaby to dying fan

In April, Sheeran also caught word of a dedicated fan who had him on her bucket list. Triona Priestley, 15, who had also been living with cystic fibrosis, revealed to family and friends that her dying wish was for Sheeran to sing his song "Little Bird" to her. Priestley's loved ones launched a Twitter campaign that ended with Sheeran calling Priestley on the phone. "Ed rang Triona and personally sang 'Little Bird' to her as she took her last breaths," a friend of Priestley wrote on Facebook.

4. Charlie Sheen hangs with terminally ill fan

You can say a lot of things about Sheen, but somewhere down in that guy, there's a heart of gold. Last November, Sheen flew Marion Minchuk, a loyal fan who was battling cancer, Minchuk's girlfriend and a nurse to Los Angeles, all on his own dime. Minchuk and his crew also joined Sheen in his home for lunch and took a trip to the set of Sheen's show Anger Management.

Bradley Cooper's weight gain: He can do it, but women can't?

Coop spoke with Square Mile magazine and said he "would love to be a father one day."

"I'm sorry my father won't be around to see his grandchildren, but he knows fatherhood was something I was looking forward to," he explained. "That's my next big step in life."

But for now, Cooper is happily dating and working on his career. He is currently attached to British model Suki Waterhouse and has plenty of projects in the works. Cooper is thankful for everything he has achieved, but he never forgets where he came from.

"I struggled for a long time, and you never forget what you went through to finally make it,” he explained. “Even with the success I've had, I still fight for roles that I don't wind up getting, so there's still enough uncertainty to keep you hungry."

He added, "There's this crushing anxiety you feel when you're not getting the parts you want, and you wonder if acting is your destiny."

VIDEO: Bradley Cooper goes commando to the White House

Cooper will again be starring with Jennifer Lawrence, who he worked alongside in both Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, and he admitted she is the one actress he looks forward to seeing every day at work.

"We've had so much fun working together, and I'm so proud of her success," he said. "She's one of the most down-to-earth and unpretentious individuals you could ever meet, and it's such a pleasure to spend time with her. She's incredibly talented; she's one of those natural performers who are instinctively good at what they do."

Cooper and JLaw’s next movie, Serena, will be out on March 27, 2015.
