George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are married!

George Clooney's love story gives hope to singles everywhere (VIDEO)

The couple were married Saturday, surrounded by family and friends in gorgeous Venice, Italy. There undoubtedly was no shortage of tequila.

Reality started to set in that Gorgeous George's intentions for Alamuddin were indeed true when, as People magazine reported in early August, a notice was publicly posted outside Chelsea Old Town Hall in London stating the couple's plans to tie the knot. The town hall is also reportedly where the duo received their marriage license.

Clooney and Alamuddin, who is a human rights lawyer, were first spotted together last fall. Engagement rumors began flying this past spring when Alamuddin was spotted wearing a gorgeous engagement ring while out to dinner with Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber. News of the pending nuptials solidified in April, when a source close to the couple confirmed the news to People. "George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key, but they also aren't really trying to hide this, it doesn't seem," the source said. "I think it's like they want the people they love to know that it is real, that they plan on being together forever."

The couple celebrated their engagement by throwing a huge A-lister-filled bash in May at Gerber's restaurant, Cafe Habana in Malibu. The party was complete with a private karaoke room, where revelers were treated to a rendition of "Wonderwall" by Oasis sung by Bono of U2.

Clooney has already proved that he is fiercely protective of his bride and their relationship. He ripped the Daily Mail in July and refused to accept the tabloid's apology after it printed a false story claiming that Alamuddin's mother had rejected their relationship for religious reasons.

George Clooney's love story gives hope to singles everywhere (VIDEO)

It helps that Clooney chose pretty much the world’s most perfect woman to marry. Amal Alamuddin is not only beautiful but also smart and has a career of her own — the new Mrs. George Clooney works as a human rights lawyer in London.

Clooney and Alamuddin's wedding was a star-studded affair in Venice. It was attended by Bill Murray, Matt Damon and his wife Luciana, and Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber, according to CBS News. The guests and the groom were taken to the Venice ceremony in a water taxi.

So what did the Twitterverse have to say about Clooney and Alamuddin’s nuptials? Although the reaction was mixed, the general consensus seemed to be that most women (and some men) were surprised they weren't marrying George Clooney instead.

Portuguese stew with lamb meatballs, pork shoulder and garbanzo beans

This traditional Portuguese stew tastes like something my great grandma used to make me when I was sick in bed. She'd load a stew up with tons of vegetables, hearty cuts of meat and homemade dumplings. No matter what I was sick with, every bite made me feel better.

Cozido de Grão

Originally hailing from the Alentejo and Algarve regions of Portugal, chickpea stew has been a staple in so many Portuguese homes for decades. Don't you think it's time you made this a staple in your house, too?

Cozido de grão recipe

Inspired by Saveur Magazine

Serves about 6

Ingredients:

For the meatballs

  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Dash of salt and pepper
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 egg

For the stew

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 10 ounces pork shoulder, sliced
  • 6 ounces spicy sausage
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 4 organic carrots, chopped
  • About 1 pound butternut squash, peeled and chopped
  • 1-1/2 pounds red potatoes, quartered
  • 1-1/2 cups chopped Brussels sprouts
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans chickpeas, drained
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. To make the meatballs, preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Grease an oven-safe baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Mix the lamb, bread crumbs, cream, Worcestershire sauce, onion, salt, pepper and egg. Mix with your hands until the mixture comes together. Form the meat into 14 medium size meatballs and place in the greased dish.
  3. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until browned on the outside. Remove from heat.
  4. Meanwhile, heat the olive oil over medium high heat in a large Dutch oven. Liberally sprinkle the pork with salt and pepper. Add the sausage and crumble with your spatula. Cook until browned. Remove from heat. Add the pork and cook, in batches, until the meat is brown, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and add to the bowl with the sausage.
  5. In the same Dutch oven, add the garlic, onion, carrots, butternut squash, potatoes and brussels sprouts.
  6. Add in the broth, chickpeas, paprika, bay leaves, chili powder and salt and pepper. Return meat to the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce to medium low and cook until meat and vegetables are tender, about 45 minutes. Add in the meatballs and cook another 10 minutes.
  7. Remove bay leaves and serve stew with crusty bread.

I promise you, I wouldn't lie about cake. The avocado in the frosting adds a velvety richness, and the cake is more moist thanks to peanut butter and fudge. If your garden is overflowing with crazy zucchini, this is the cake to throw it in. The flavors just work in a way you never thought possible.

Fudge, peanut butter and zucchini cake with rich avocado frosting

Fudge, peanut butter and zucchini cake with rich avocado frosting recipe

Cake slightly adapted from Taste of Home.

Serves about 16

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded zucchini
  • 1-1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

For the frosting

  • 2 large ripe avocados
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chopped nuts and chocolate chips for garnish

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a large circular baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, whisk the sugars with the eggs until fully combined. Add the oil, applesauce, peanut butter and vanilla. Whisk until combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the flour, baking cocoa and baking soda. Add the flour to the egg mixture, alternating with the heavy cream, until mixture is fully combined.
  4. Gently stir in the zucchini, chocolate chips and nuts. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for about 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
  5. Cool on a wire cooling rack. Meanwhile, prepare the frosting by placing the avocados into the bowl. On medium-high speed, beat the avocado until thick and creamy, about 4 minutes. Gradually add in the sugar, cocoa powder and vanilla extract into the stand mixer fitted with a heavy whisk attachment. Beat until creamy and thick. This will take about 4-5 minutes until it's thick like a chocolate buttercream.
  6. Once cake has cooled, liberally spread the top of the cake with frosting and sprinkle with additional chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.

Why wasn't Ben Affleck at George Clooney's wedding?

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are married!

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin exchanged vows on Saturday in the picturesque location of Venice, Italy, amid a sea of famous faces, but one of the groom's good friends was glaringly absent from his celebrations. So, why did Ben Affleck miss out on the wedding of the year?

During an interview with ET Canada on Saturday, Affleck revealed he had to work, instead of partying alongside other A-list celebs.

The guest of honor at George Clooney's wedding? Tequila

"Yeah. Some people have to work, and everybody else gets to be in Venice," the Gone Girl actor joked. "But [George] found a great girl and I'm happy for them. I wish them the best."

While Affleck was busy promoting the upcoming thriller Gone Girl in New York City, New York, over the weekend, Clooney and his beautiful bride were partying it up at the Aman Canal Grande hotel with Affleck's BFF Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Bill Murray, Anna Wintour, Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber, and John Krasinski — we bet Affleck is sorry he missed this party!

Affleck also missed out on some really cool party favors! According to Us Weekly, the couple gave each guest a personalized iPod and speakers in their rooms, a framed photo of the happy couple and a note that read, "We're both so glad you're here. You've come a long way so we'll make it worth the trip. Thanks for being here. It means the world to us."

Ben Affleck relates to Batman's "deeply buried anger"

Clooney's wedding celebrations did not end on Saturday, however, because the couple's civil ceremony took place on Monday at the 16th-century Palazzo Cavalli adjoining the Venice town hall. According to Us Weekly, Clooney's friend, former Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni, performed the civil ceremony, which was conducted in accordance with Italy's laws.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

Robert Downey Jr. pens tearjerking tribute to late mom

Downey Jr. revealed he wanted to share the intimate details of his mother's life because a generic obituary would just not suffice.

Robert Downey, Jr. says addiction is a family problem

The Avengers actor began by revealing how his mother had grown up in a small town and left home with big dreams of becoming a comedian. She arrived in New York and met his father, who proposed at a Yankees/Orioles game, but the happiness did not last as she struggled with alcoholism.

"As the marriage suffered, she continued to work, but not for long. A recurring role on "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" ('76-'77) was her last paying job...not that she cared, she'd have done it for free," Downey Jr. wrote.

The Iron Man star is open about his past struggles with addiction, and he went on to explain it was his mother — who got sober herself in 1990 — that helped him to overcome his demons.

Robert Downey Jr.'s son charged in drug possession case

"While I strived to have the kind of success that eluded her, my own addiction repeatedly forbade it," Downey Jr. wrote. "In the summer of 2004, I was in bad shape. She called me out of the blue, and I admitted everything. I don't remember what she said, but I haven't drank or used since."

Sadly, in March, the actor's mother suffered another cardiac arrest and was put on life support.

"Her wishes were to be left to die if there wasn't a reasonable chance of recovery, which for some time there was. I returned from filming the Avengers sequel in June, went straight to see her," he recalled. "To my amazement, she was completely lucid, interactive, mugging + pulling faces."

However, after a few seizures, Downey Jr. brought his mom to a hospice, where she died last Monday.

"She was my role model as an actor, and as a woman who got sober and stayed that way. She was also reclusive, self-deprecating, a stoic Scotch-German rural Pennsylvanian, a ball buster, stubborn, and happy to hold a grudge," Downey Jr. revealed.

"My ambition, tenacity, loyalty, 'moods,' grandiosity, occasional passive aggression, and my faith....That's all her...and I wouldn't have it any other way. If anyone out there has a mother, and she's not perfect, please call her and say you love her anyway...."

Angelina Jolie wedding dress

Wedding dresses

We've not yet seen images of Amal Alamuddin's wedding dress, but Angelina Jolie made wedding dress headlines and history with her matrimonial gown. As we all now know, Jolie adorned the train of her breathtaking Versace gown with graffiti art drawn by her children. We're going to stick our necks out and say Mrs. Clooney's dress will not have such unorthodox embellishments.

Post wedding dresses

It took days for Jolie to emerge after she and Pitt exchanged vows, and when she did she was photographed in black (nothing new there) and a sun hat while on a yacht. Alamuddin, on the other hand, couldn't wait to strut her stuff as Mrs. Clooney. The day after the couple exchanged vows, Alamuddin emerged in a stunning Giambattista Valli dress of lace and flowers.

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are married!

As a sidenote, if you are getting married this year, it's important that you wear a short, embroidered dress either right before or right after your wedding. All the cool kids are doing it. Remember when Kim Kardashian wore this little number to her bachelorette party?

Guests

According to E!, two of the most famous celebrities on the planet had 22 people in attendance when they got married. While the Pitts committed their lives to each other in front of immediate family and their children, the Clooneys' guest list was a who's who of Hollywood. The Clooney guest list included names like Cindy Crawford, Bill Murray, Matt Damon, Bono, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. It is interesting to note that these notoriously good friends were not present at each other's weddings.

Venue

The Clooneys spared no expense by securing the seven-star Aman Canal Grande Hotel in Venice, Italy, for their big day. The Pitts' matrimonial venue was a chapel close to their Chateau Miraval estate in France. It would appear all the cool kids are also taking their wedding dollars outside the U.S., which is an odd trend, since we have to assume it is their careers in the U.S. that enable them to afford weddings outside the U.S. But hey, when in Rome, right?

Which wedding style do you prefer? The small, family, custom ceremony or the larger, more traditional ceremony?

Your daughter shouldn't train to be Batman's wife

0
0

Well, here's a lame T-shirt that doesn't belong on any tween or teen. A T-shirt emblazoned with the slogan "Training To Be Batman's Wife." In pink, of course. First of all, what girl wants to be Batman's wife? It isn't like he is some emotionally adjusted human, not prone to bouts of anger or in a dangerous line of work. But besides that, is that the most we can hope for our girls? That they marry Batman? What happened to wanting them to grow up to be Batwoman or Wonder Woman or Spider-Woman or their own hero? Of course Walmart doesn't carry any shirts that read "Training to be Wonder Woman's husband" or anything for young men, because we all know boys can grow up to be heroes instead of the spouse of a hero.

It's so absurd to me that shirts like this are still created, because I can't think of any parent that would buy one for their kid or any kid who would want to wear one. When you are young you still believe you can grow up to be anything you want, and I think even girls who dream of one day getting married have aspirations above and beyond that. Yeah, Batman is cool, but this dumb sexist T-shirt isn't. And it's not the type of message we should be exposing our girls to.

Meatless Monday: Bring a bowl of creamy, crimson borscht to the table

There are many ways you can prepare borscht, a traditional Eastern and Central European beet soup. It can be served hot or chilled, chunky or creamy, with potatoes or cabbage, and it can be green or crimson in color.

I love this recipe, which is made to serve this soup creamy and warm. It's a beautiful, jeweled maroon color that will brighten any day. Serve it with a dollop of cucumber-dill sour cream for a nice contrast in color and a bit of coolness.

Creamy borscht with cucumber-dill sour cream

Creamy borscht with cucumber-dill sour cream recipe

Serves 4-6

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups beets (2-3 medium-sized beets), peeled, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1 cup carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1-2 garlic cloves
  • 2-1/2 cups vegetable broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 teaspoons fresh dill, divided
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 peeled cucumber, diced
  • Plastic wrap

Directions:

  1. Add the beets to a microwave-safe bowl with 2 tablespoons of water. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and microwave for 8 minutes. Remove and allow the beets to sit, covered, for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the olive oil to a Dutch oven or stock pot over medium heat. When hot, add the onion, carrots, celery and garlic. Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the vegetables begin to soften.
  3. Add the vegetable broth, salt and black pepper to the pot. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to simmer. Add the beets and 2 teaspoons of the dill to the mixture, and cook for about 10 minutes or until the vegetables are soft. Remove from the heat and allow the soup to cool for about 5 minutes.
  4. As the soup cools, add the sour cream, cucumber and 1 teaspoon of dill to a food processor. Pulse several times so some of the cucumber remains in small pieces. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  5. Working in batches, transfer the cooled soup mixture to a blender and carefully pulse until smooth. Return to the pan over medium heat until warmed through.
  6. Add the lemon juice to the mixture when warm, and stir to combine.
  7. Serve warm with the sour cream dolloped on top.

Bring beets to the table with this warming soup.

Sneaky ways illegal interview questions are rephrased by hiring managers

0
0

It’s illegal for an interviewer to ask if you’re pregnant or if you have kids, but the interviewer could very well ask how you spend your time vacationing to see if you mention having a family. It’s also illegal to ask about your medical history, but an interviewer could bring up her own seasonal allergies or casually mention that she got her flu shot last week to see how you respond.

We spoke with Matthew Reischer, attorney, founder and CEO of LegalAdvice.com, who shared some common modifications made by hiring managers during the interview process to get the information they’re looking for without crossing the line into illegal territory.

Illegal question: Are you a U.S. citizen?

Modified question: Are you authorized to work in the U.S.?

Illegal question: Do you drink?

Modified question: Do you currently use any illegal drugs?

Note: Companies can actually ask about your current drug use but not your past drug use. They can’t ask if you drink specifically, but they can most definitely ask if you’re currently using any drugs.

Illegal question: How old are you?

Modified question: How long have you been working? Or how long have you been in this industry?

Other questions that are illegal to ask include where you live, what you do in your free time, which websites you frequent the most, if you’ve ever been arrested and what your personal spending habits are like. Basically, if it’s personal information, your employer does not have a right to know.

On the flip side, check out these shady things people do when looking for a job>>

How employers can handle interviews the right way

Laura Rose, business and career management coach, encourages companies and managers to be of high integrity and open with their job expectations. “Instead of trying to sneak around to try to find out if people have kids, stick with outlining your job requirements and expectations. If there is a reason that you want to find out if they have kids, highlight the reason instead of the question,” she states.

“For example: This job requires long hours and lots of travel. You will be on the road 85 percent of the time, and when you are in the office, you will be putting in 15 hours and sometimes weekends,” Rose says. By being clear, you’re allowing the candidate to decide if this is something she can take on, regardless of whether or not she has kids.

By being direct about the position, you don’t have to be sneaky. “If you adequately describe the position and the type of people the position is best suited for, you don't have to beat around the bush by asking illegal questions. You won't have to ask those questions,” Rose concludes.

If you do find yourself being asked illegal questions in a roundabout way, consider that a warning sign to look elsewhere. Any company that isn’t going to be direct with you about the job expectations, or has the audacity to ask personal questions that you may be uncomfortable answering, probably doesn’t deserve you anyway.

If you know you’ve been asked an illegal question, it’s time to bring in the pros. The EEOC, or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, is here to help. Contact the EEOC here if you wish to file a complaint regarding workplace discrimination.

reporter's epic fail with skeleton twins interivew

The indie drama The Skeleton Twins stars Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader as estranged twin siblings who reconnect after both their lives fall apart.

Kristen Wiig says comedy wasn't her first choice

A reporter for TV's KWGN named Chris Parente admits he'll never work in Hollywood again after he botched this interview. You see, it's sort of a rule that anyone in the press needs to see a film before they interview the stars, specifically to avoid awkward situations like this.

Ellen DeGeneres and Kristen Wiig butcher "Let it Go" (VIDEO)

Every now and then, a journalist does have to ask actors questions about a movie they haven't seen, but any savvy reporter knows not to pretend they've seen the movie when they actually haven't. Sorry, Mr. Parente, you're just not savvy.

But it's the line of questions he asks that makes us wonder if he's not also a bit sexist. Yes, Kristen Wiig is gorgeous and yes, she does go full frontal in a different film, Welcome to Me, scheduled to be released later this year, but really? You're going to ask her "advice on going nude"?

We're a bit offended by this question because Wiig is one of the finest comedic actresses of our time and we think Mr. Parente should be humbled in her presence. We have a hard time believing that he would have asked Bill Hader the same question, given that he's a man, had Mr. Parente mistakenly believed Hader was naked in a film.

Watch Bill Hader tell three strange tales about Ty Burrell and the Burger King man

Fortunately, Wiig and Hader call Mr. Parente out for not seeing the film, properly embarrassing him without getting too mean or hateful. Wiig, in a deadpan tone, says, "This. Was. Great." We like that the actors kept things light and classy.

The Skeleton Twins is currently playing in theaters.

Overbearing father's demands for dating his 2-year-old daughter go viral

0
0

One father just can't let this overprotective dad cliché go. His daughter is in for a long road ahead, seeing as she is only 2 years old. Marcus Luttrell is a retired Navy SEAL who wrote an extreme list of demands for boys who want to date his young daughter when she is of age.

Luttrell's dating demands

Luttrell's dating demands

In just a few hours, Luttrell's immature Facebook rant was shared more than 4000 times. This is disheartening in and of itself since there appear to be thousands of people on board with the oppressive "rules for dating my daughter" theme. I'm guessing most these people are fathers who have never been teenage daughters before.

Luttrell's father-daughter rant is ridiculous and played out by this point. With requirements for future dates like "paint the house, mend some fence, cut the lawn, rope a tornado, bottle up a hurricane, and put out a Forrest fire w/ a squirt gun (sic)," this father better have enough cash to support his young daughter well through retirement.

I know at first glance this fatherly rant seems cute and even shareable on social media, but I promise that it is not. Controlling your daughter is not funny. It will not prepare her for the real world in any way, shape or form. While this dad clearly loves his daughter, he is going about it all wrong.

Teaching your daughter that a man controls her every move and decides who she will date "because he loves her" sets her up for the same type of controlling romantic relationship in the future — if she ever manages to get out from under her father's thumb.

Fathers, if you really love your daughters, teach them how to think for themselves and respect their bodies. Guide them through the dating process each step of the way. Teach them how to make their own decisions in choosing a partner and to always give consent before sex — instead of threatening every person with a penis with your shotgun. That really is backward thinking.

Take a closer look, and you'll see that these 10 father-daughter memes are not funny at all:

Donald Trump tricked into serial killer retweet

Twitter user Philip Bradbury, who bills himself as a "failed comedian," asked Trump to retweet a photo of his parents because they were big fans.

Trump retweeted the photo, not realizing who it actually depicted: Notorious serial killers Fred and Rose West.

Donald Trump is cranky over Emmys host Seth Myers

The post was removed by Trump's P.R. team within 40 minutes, but the damage was done: His 2.7 million Twitter followers had already seen his inadvertent endorsement of a couple who raped, tortured and murdered at least 11 people, including some of their own family members.

Trump's immediate reaction to the trick? Threaten a lawsuit, of course.

Some think Trump, who loves to run his mouth on Twitter, got his comeuppance. Others think the trick disrespects the victims of the Wests and trivializes the couple's crimes. Trump's hair has yet to weigh in on the matter.

Capybara enjoys a treat

Capybara enjoys a treat

Now, celebrating Capybara Day might not exactly be something you do on the regs, that is, unless you own a capybara or happen to be one. Let's pause here briefly for a second. If you are a capybara and you are reading this website, please contact me immediately. Clearly you are a miraculous and splendid creature whom I would like to get to know better and maybe make my magical animal sidekick. Moving on...

JoeJoe the capybara might not have magical powers, but he certainly has mastered social media — with a little help from his human owner, too, I'm sure. JoeJoe shares all of his adventures on YouTube with looooads of followers who are just desperate to know what the little cutie is up to.

In this video, JoeJoe is loath to let summer pass him by for autumn, so he mourns the passage of time by chomping down a Popsicle. Don't worry not-so-little fella. Winter won't last forever.

The Simpsons' newest opening sequence is just one huge mindf*** (VIDEO)

If you're still suffering from perhaps a tad too much partying over the weekend or your morning coffee hasn't quite kicked in yet, you might want to wait a little while before watching the titles, which aired as a special part of the season premiere on Sunday, Sept. 28.

David Beckham, Simpsons talk Scottish Independence

According to EW, the sequence was created by animator and independent filmmaker Don Hertzfeldt. If you've ever seen any of his work then you are probably already somewhat mentally prepared for what you are about to see.

Just to give you an idea, here is a video from Hertzfeldt called "Genre," which shows his penchant for creating crazy characters and putting them into even nuttier situations. It seems that watching one of his videos can often make one wonder what in the world they just saw.

If you're not familiar with Hertzfeldt's work, then you'll need to strap yourself in and prepare for the ride of your life. Have you even been on The Simpsons ride at Universal Studios and thought that was insane? Yeah, well, this ride is even crazier.

Every episode of The Simpsons ever is airing now on FXX

It starts out innocently enough: Homer is once again on the couch with a remote control, ready to sit down and watch some TV. But when he presses the button, something new happens. It seems his remote control is actually some sort of time machine and it takes poor Homer on a ride to the very distant future.

When the clock stops, the date is "Septembar 36.4, 10,535." No, that's not a typo. Apparently, dates have changed in the past few thousand years and that's not the only thing. In the future, people have turned into amoeba-like creatures that don't watch TV so much as hook up to a neural network (or "netwark" as it's known then) and have shows directly downloaded into their brain stems.

While Homer floats around downloading "The Sampsons," Bart crawls around on the floor in a squishy, lumpy body. Lisa basically is a new kind of creature with a single eyeball and a mouth growing from a stalk sticking out of her head. The siblings do nothing but stare at each other and speak gibberish, which is perhaps not all that different from most siblings in our current time.

Gestations Pregnancy Bar is probably an advertising hoax

A storefront in the East Village in New York City at Fifth Street and Avenue A is proclaiming itself as the "First Bar For Pregnant Women." I drank while I was pregnant. All three times. The occasional glass of wine. A cold beer on a hot summer day. I was told by my OB-GYN that the occasional drink would not harm my unborn children, and it wasn't like I was pounding shots of Jägermeister or anything hardcore. I believe that the choice to engage in moderate alcohol consumption while gestating is between a woman and her doctor. I would never advocate for a woman getting shitfaced while she was with child, but I refuse to get all pearl-clutchy over a pregnant woman having a nice glass of wine to help her relax. It's my personal opinion that stress is worse for a fetus than a cocktail once a week.

Which is why I can't quite be amused by the whole prank this company is pulling, and some news outlets have speculated it's for a new bar app. The new "bar" showed up on Thursday, along with a Facebook page that states cheeky messages like:

And yeah, it's ridiculous and a big conversation-starter and I'm sure it's just a publicity stunt. But the thing is, pregnant women get enough scrutiny and being the butt of jokes in the world. We are criticized for weight gain during pregnancy, whether or not we work out and how we choose to do so, if we plan a natural childbirth or not, if we plan on breastfeeding or not. Pregnant women are sort of low-hanging fruit, and women feel especially vulnerable at times during pregnancy. Why not go pick on dudes or something? Plus, as I stated above, fetal alcohol syndrome is a very serious thing that can affect the quality of life for infants through adulthood.

I love having a sense of humor about things and I think it's amazingly healthy to laugh during pregnancy, but this "joke" leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Now I need to go wash it down with some delicious wine.
