Rob Schneider has been dubbed the anti-vaccinator

Rob Schneider is bumping Rules of Engagement

Schneider is the star of a recent ad for State Farm Insurance, but he lost his gig and the company is even pulling the ad after activists launched a social media campaign against it.

Schneider may be a funny and talented actor, but he's also anti-vaccine. And anyone who's spent any time on the internet knows there's no more emotionally debated topic than whether or not to vaccinate.

Schneider first spoke publicly in 2012 against a California bill that requires parents to consult with doctors before they're allowed to enroll their kids in schools without vaccinating them first. After the bill passed, Schneider tweeted, "Today California passed a law to force parents to get a Doc's permission to not vaccinate their kids or they can't attend school! Nazi's (sic)." The tweet has since been deleted.

Rob Schneider marries a hot chick!

But when the pro-vaccine camp found out that Schneider was appearing in an ad for a company that sells health insurance, they were less than pleased. They took to social media with an ad of their own, saying, "Someone who publicly states dangerous opinions should not be a spokesperson for a health insurance company."

The ad continues, saying, "State Farm provides health insurance, and nothing ensures public health more than getting vaccinated."

After the anti-Schneider ad started spreading, State Farm's director of public affairs said the ad would be discontinued.

"[Schneider's] ad has unintentionally been used as a platform for discussion unrelated to the products and services we provide," he told PR Week. "With that, we are working to remove the ad from our rotation at this time."

Schneider hasn't officially spoken about the controversy, but he did tweet on Wednesday, "'If the Freedom of Speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter,' George Washington."

Joan Lunden reveals breast cancer battle

After announcing her diagnosis on air and leaving the show, Lunden is back in the spotlight, bald and so beautiful on the cover of People's October issue, due out Friday.

Lunden tells People that when she received her devastating diagnosis, she knew she had two choices.

"I could decide to do nothing, but that's certainly not my personality," she says. "I was handed an opportunity to learn everything that I can about this and try to help others."

Taking her hair into her own hands was a major step in that process, Lunden reveals. Just one week after finishing chemo, Lunden decided it was time to say goodbye to her blond locks.

Breast cancer in numbers: Get the facts

"You know it's going to happen one of these days and you are wondering how and when, so I just owned it," she says.

Despite her powerfully positive attitude about her hair loss, though, Lunden says deciding to pose without a wig was tough.

"I'm almost reluctant to say it because it sounds superficial," she explains. "But when you lose your hair, it just affects the way that you look at yourself in the mirror. You feel less feminine, pretty or desirable, and it's not an easy thing to go through."

Ultimately, though, Lunden, who has been chronicling her battle with breast cancer on her blog, says she knew what was the right choice.

Breast cancer tips every woman should know

"I had to make this big decision about whether or not to do the cover with no hair," she says. "It certainly isn't the comfortable way to go, but I decided I was going to try and help others and show women that this isn't the end of the world. You can go on — and that was hugely empowering."

Matt Damon owes his career to Robin Williams (VIDEO)

Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal remember Robin Williams

Matt Damon spoke with Katie Couric for the first time since Williams' death and showed his admiration for the man and what he did for them.

"Ben and I owe everything to him. He said yes to our movie and he got it made. I could never thank him enough," Damon told Couric. "You know, I look around at the life I have and how blessed I feel, and so much of it started with him."

Damon and Affleck's film, Good Will Hunting, had already been sold to a film studio, but had been delayed for two years when Williams decided to be a part of it, according to Yahoo. Damon and Affleck's careers were both launched from the film and it helped Williams win his only Oscar. Damon and Affleck won writing Oscars that year and Damon was nominated for Best Actor.

Williams died in August at the age of 63. Damon decided to finally open up about what an amazing friend and colleague Williams was to him, explaining, "He was the funniest person that I ever met in my life. He was the guy who, when the crew was flagging, he would stop everything and do 20 minutes of stand-up off the top of his head that literally had everybody on the floor, then be like, 'OK, let's get back to work.'"

Damon admitted he was "shocked" by the death of Williams, but said they hadn't talked in a while.

"I think everyone who wasn't there with him at the end feels bad that they didn't see it coming," he explained. "I hope I become better at checking in with my friends and I hope that we as a country get better at checking in with each other to prevent this kind of thing."

Matt Damon uses toilet water for ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

But Damon said it is an opportunity to end the stigma of mental illness and suicide in the world.

"It's a sign of incredible strength and fortitude. To be able to stand up and say, 'This is real, this is happening to me and I need your help.'"

Simpson captioned the photo, "I was on a plane to NYC today, and I missed out on this!!! I'm in LOVE with the 2 of them. #boyswillbeboys."

We couldn't think of a better hashtag to sum up this father and son moment. If Simpson's husband, Eric Johnson, weren't a former pro football player, we might be a little concerned, but the doting dad seems to know exactly what he's doing and the baby is loving it.

Motherhood has helped Shakira discover herself

Though her son, Milan, is just 19 months old, Shakira took to Facebook to show off his impressive reading skills. This lesson was in Spanish and little Milan got all the words right, including mama, papa, agua, nana and more!

Shakira wrote the words on a pad of paper with a red marker and asked little Milan in Spanish, "How do you say this, my love?" And he proudly answered her while sitting on her lap and looking between the camera and the notepad.

Shakira is not done having kids — she wants eight or nine more

Shakira's enthusiasm in the video is contagious. She's clearly very proud of her little man, as she should be.

It is no secret that Shakira loves being a mother. Though Milan is her first child with longtime soccer player boyfriend, Gerard Piqué, Shakira told the April 2014 issue of Latina, "I would love to have eight or nine kids with Gerard — my own fútbol team.

"If it weren't because of my music projects, I would be pregnant already," the singer continued.

Well, it looks like she's since made time for another baby in between her projects. The "Hips Don't Lie" singer confirmed her pregnancy to the Spanish version of Cosmopolitan, following months of speculation.

Music review: Shakira is on a rampage with "Empire"

"Well yes, the truth is that I am pregnant," she told to the magazine. Rumor is the new little bundle of joy will be another boy for the happy couple, which means they are well on their way to building their dream team.

Shakira and Piqué met four years ago when the soccer player appeared in the music video for Shakira's song, "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)."

According to Big Hospitality UK, people are seven times more likely to tweet about a negative dining experience than they are to take to sites like Yelp or TripAdvisor to air their grievances. And, 78 percent of those Tweeting negative comments do so while still in the restaurant, which means that with a little sleuthing, restaurants could take immediate action to change their customers' minds about their meal.

Banana cornbread muffins with orange glaze recipe

Once these cornbread muffins are topped with sweet orange glaze they turn into a completely different dish. They're no longer the co-star to a bowl of chili, they're now the main attraction and make a wonderful dessert. And as a bonus, they're made with banana. I especially like this muffin recipe because it's made with corn flour, also called masa harina, which gives the muffin a more cake-like texture.

Banana cornbread muffins with orange glaze recipe

Banana cornbread muffins with orange glaze recipe

Makes 12 muffins

Ingredients:

For the muffins

  • 1 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup corn flour (masa harina)
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1 pinch of ground cinnamon
  • 1 very ripe banana, peeled and mashed
  • 1 tablespoon soft butter (for greasing the muffin pan)
  • Orange glaze
  • Zest from 1 orange (for garnish)

For the orange glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar (add more to thicken glaze if needed)
  • Juice from 1 orange
  • 1/4 teaspoon orange extract

Directions:

For the muffins

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Grease the muffin pan with butter and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, corn flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, baking powder, milk, eggs, canola oil and cinnamon. Mix all ingredients until a batter forms.
  4. Stir in the banana.
  5. Ladle the batter into the muffin pan.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the middle of a muffin comes out clean (about 22 - 24 minutes).
  7. Using a dinner knife, gently move it in between the edges of each muffin and the pan. Carefully remove the muffins from the pan onto a rack and let cool.
  8. Drizzle orange glaze on top of the muffins and garnish with orange zest.

For the orange glaze

  1. In a small bowl, add all ingredients and whisk together.
  2. Depending on the size of the orange used for the juice, more powdered sugar may be needed to make the glaze thicker. If the glaze is too thick, add a small bit of milk.

Zoë Kravitz shares details on bloody injury from the Divergent set

Zoë took to Instagram on Tuesday evening to share a picture of what she and her dad got up to. The Divergent actress, whose face was half covered by her long braided locks, didn't decide to show the world what exactly her ink was of, but we do know that the handiwork on her left forearm was done by tattooist Tye Harris.

"Late night tats with @lennykravitz thanks @tyeharris," the model simply captioned the snap.

Although, there's no word on whether the "I Belong To You" hit maker actually got his own tattoo (he already has several, including a Japanese-style dragon tattoo on his chest), or if he was just along for the ride.

According to the Daily Mail, Zoë and her dad went to the tattoo parlor after she visited him during his taped appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City. The singer had been promoting his 10th studio album, Strut, and made his appearance on the show extra special when he performed.

The Sims 4 censors breastfeeding because ewww, boobs

Sims 4 - Censored breastfeeding

Sims 4 - Censored breastfeeding

I haven't played the computer game The Sims since The Sims 2 was a thing, so I'm pretty far behind the times. However, I was always a little irritated that moms and dads could only bottle-feed their babies. There's nothing wrong with bottles, of course, but not every parent chooses that, and as many teens play the game, it would have been nice for them to see that option as a part of normal game play. "Have a baby, give it a bottle" is a pretty common way of raising kids, and while breastfeeding rates are on the rise, some normal depiction of it within a video game would do some good.

Breastfeeding did appear in the standalone title The Sims Medieval, where bottles were not an option (as they really weren't, in medieval times). Now Sim moms can actually breastfeed their babies in The Sims 4. It is included it into normal game play for the first time in a main title, which is really sweet.

But wait a minute. When I saw a little video clip of a mom nursing her baby, I noticed that the breastfeeding scene goes on behind censorship pixels. The same kind that pops up when a Sim pees, poops, takes a shower or gets dressed.

While I'm happy that it's finally an option, why on earth is it censored? I'm no game and graphic design master, but I don't see how it would have been difficult to bring the baby to Mom's chest without exposing even a slice of breast. Is it the potential virtual nip slip that has the game designers on edge, or do they think that breastfeeding is literally like peeing and pooping?

Either way, it's both a step in the right direction and completely dumb. The Sims 4, like the other games in the Sims series, is rated for teens on up, and that is an age group where things like casual no-big-deal breastfeeding could potentially make a positive impression on future moms and dads. Breastfeeding doesn't scar children for life, and in fact, seeing it in a normal setting can help break down the notion that breastfeeding is something that should be done under the cover of a blanket, behind a door or behind carefully-constructed pixels.

I checked Twitter for buzz on breastfeeding Sims and was amused to find the following back when the breastfeeding option was announced. It seems to address the notion that breastfeeding around other Sims might make them uncomfortable:

Sims 4 developer tweet Q&A (initial question)

Sims 4 developer tweet Q&A (initial question)

Sims 4 developer tweet Q&A

Sims 4 developer tweet Q&A

Breastfeeding acceptance, particularly in public and apparently within video games, still has quite a ways to go. I'm sure that someone will come out with a mod that eliminates the pixels, and we may be completely horrified as to what's going on under there (I really just think it's a mom holding her baby to her clothed chest). But maybe, just maybe, when The Sims 5 is released years from now, they won't make their mommy Sims cover up when they nurse their babies.

Hugh Jackman's wife says she isn't lucky to have married him

Hugh Jackman's naked Japanese blunder

During a candid interview for the October issue of Australian Woman's Weekly, Furness revealed how tired she is of people telling her that her lifestyle has been a product of good fortune.

"That to me is a putdown. [It's] like you suggesting I won the chook raffle," she explained.

And we get why she would feel that way. Furness is the founder of Adopt Change, an organization that focuses on adoption law reform efforts. She also is talented in the cinematographic world, having produced and directed both short and independent films.

Hugh Jackman opens up about miscarriage, choosing to adopt

"When people look at my life, they don't know the challenges (I face), just like I don't know someone else's (challenges)," she told the publication. "With every privilege, comes responsibility and challenges."

Furness has been married to her Australian beau for almost two decades. They met on the set of the Australian TV show Correlli in 1995. And her lifestyle has not, by any means, been an outcome of luck.

"If you want something, you put it out there with good intention and you realize it," she said.

Hugh Jackman talks of near-castration experience

However, Jackman does think that when it comes to his marriage and his wife, he is one of the lucky ones.

The actor previously gushed about his wife to YourTango, saying, "She's the greatest. I'm one of the lucky ones. She's very wise, a great actress, and a great wife and mother. Did you see her host "The View?" She does it all. I'm really proud of her."

Could the iPhone 6 be cursed?

This is how it started...

It began on Sept. 18, when the very first iPhone 6 to be unboxed took a tipsy-tumble to the ground. After that, things started going downhill fast.

We soon learned the phone bends in your pocket...

While men in skinny jeans deserve whatever justice the universe is willing to mete out, the iPhone 6 should be able withstand a day of driving, eating and dancing without getting all bent out of shape, right?

After that, a crazy prank convinced people to microwave their new iPhones

Microwave phone

Microwave phone

This began as a 4chan prank trying to convince new, proud owners of the iPhone 6 that they could wirelessly charge their phones by cooking them in the microwave.

The pranksters did a pretty convincing job making it look like a legit iOS 8 feature. But, as you can see, it’s not. The devastating prank has left many helpless iPhone 6 owners to cry over the melted plastic and cloud of smoke.

Next, people realized iOS 8 and iOS 8.0.1 crashes like crazy

In fact a new study has found that the iOS 8 crashes nearly 80 percent more often than the iOS 7 . Crittercism, which is a mobile apps performance management company representing big clients like Pinterest and Netflix, says not only is iOS 8 crash rate 78 percent higher than iOS 7, but that the performance of the new platform has deteriorated even further since the release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. And iOS 8.0.1, which was meant to fix all of the problems with iOS 8, wound up disabling cellular service and Touch ID for several iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users.

Finally, there was #bringbackcameraroll

When people discovered they now had to download a separate app to replace the Camera Roll feature, let's just say, they were pretty peeved.

cameraroll3

cameraroll3

Maybe Apple can break the curse on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus by tackling these problems as soon as possible. But the iPhone is a pretty expensive piece of equipment for consumers to gamble on, especially with tragic press like this. Kinda makes a good old-fashioned Android sound downright enviable.

It takes a lot of steps and the ingredient cost could add up. However, this simple kale chicken white lasagna with béchamel sauce takes only a few ingredients and can be a great way to use up leftovers.

Kale chicken white lasagna

Kale chicken white lasagna recipe

Adapted from Allrecipes

Yields 9 x 13-inch dish

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 11 ounces baby kale
  • 16 ounces whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded chicken, leftovers picked from a rotisserie chicken
  • 1/2 pound unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 cups chicken stock
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • Kosher salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 12 no-cook lasagna noodles

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and spray a 9 x 13 pan with non-stick spray.
  2. In a large skillet set over medium heat add olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add in the baby kale. Sauté until just softened and place into a medium sized mixing bowl.
  3. In the bowl with the sautéed baby kale add ricotta cheese and shredded chicken. Stir to combine and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet you used to cook your baby kale add butter and melt over medium heat.
  5. Once the butter is melted add the onions and sauté just until soft. Add in garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  6. Sprinkle in flour and whisk into the butter. The mixture will be a bit dry; this is normal.
  7. Slowly pour in the milk mixture while whisking.
  8. Continue whisking and bring to a slight boil. The sauce will start to thicken, and when it reaches the consistency of a thick gravy remove from the heat and whisk in 2 cups of shredded cheese.
  9. Ladle a little of the sauce onto the bottom your prepared pan and top with 3 noodles and 1/3 of the ricotta mixture. Add two more layers — 3 lasagna noodles, 1/3 sauce and 1/3 ricotta mixture. On the top layer add 3 more lasagna noodles, remaining sauce and 2 cups shredded cheese.
  10. Spray a piece of foil with non-stick spray and cover your lasagna.
  11. Bake for 35 minutes covered and 25 minutes uncovered.

Stop calling bad parenting child abuse

$
0
0

It starts from birth. When I was pregnant with my first son, I thought that breastfeeding versus formula was a valid choice. (If you must know, I did both.) Little did I know that there are entire groups of moms out there who legitimately believe formula feeding is child abuse.

I am not making this up. Moms who frequent pregnancy and baby forums know exactly what I'm talking about. Some adamant lactivists (also lovingly called "breastfeeding Nazis" on occasion by forum users) use the argument that feeding an infant formula is child abuse. This is the ugly side of the Breast Is Best campaign.

Child abuse is real, and it is heartbreaking. But there are many, many things that child abuse is not. Child abuse is not letting your child cry it out in his crib in the majority of cases (which happened to work great for both of my kids). Child abuse is not piercing your baby's ears. Child abuse is not circumcising your son.

Child abuse is a serious matter that we need to talk more about, in the right context. According to ChildHelp.org, forms of child abuse may include neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse and emotional abuse. Nowhere did I see mentioned that legitimate child abuse includes our favorite hot button parenting arguments — like drinking while pregnant, smoking while breastfeeding or letting your kids watch violent movies.

Let's get a few things straight. Every time angry parents throw the term "child abuse" around to bash another parent, it is an insult to abused children and survivors of child abuse everywhere.

You don't like the fact that a parent at playgroup keeps their kid on a strict vegan diet? Join another group. You don't agree with women who drink socially and under a doctor's care while pregnant? Don't be friends with them. You wish your friend had breastfed for longer instead of abusing her infant with formula? You probably need to get over that.

As parents, we all need to come together and stop crying wolf about child abuse. If you see a child who has been abused, it is your responsibility to contact the authorities. If you see a parent making choices that are different from yours, it is your responsibility to keep your mouth shut.

FYI: Vitamins probably aren't doing anything for you

Oh yeah, and we take vitamins. A lot of them, according to New York mag’s "Science of Us" column. The industry tops $30 billion annually and has experienced an 85-percent growth boom since 2005 alone. Experts guess roughly half of American adults take some sort of vitamin supplement.

Too bad all that vitamin popping is probably not doing anything for us. University of Chicago econ professor Emily Oster took a look at some of the recent research on supplements, including two large studies from Harvard University and National Institutes of Health, and found zero correlation between taking vitamins and better health. In fact, it can even work against you, according to a study in Psychological Science. Vitamin-takers actually felt that because they'd done something "healthy," they could totally do something detrimental later like partake in a calorie splurge, hit a tanning bed or toss back shots. Eeek.

This misguided notion is something called "moral licensing" — which I'll let psychologist Wray Hubert explain: "Licensing is the notion that when we do something that we believe is good for us — like popping a vitamin — this action ironically gives us permission to engage in subsequent bad behavior — like munching potato chips — adding up to a net loss. We make these perverse trade-offs because doing something positive bolsters our 'health credentials,' which boosts our sense of invulnerability, which in turn encourages self-indulgence."

Not gonna lie to you, guys, I use this one all the time. My favorite is, "I deserve this lava cake because I had a salad for dinner! And I didn't even use the whole cup of dressing." ... Whoops.

So, back to vitamins. Unless your doc has told you to take a vitamin for a specific health-related purpose, you might be doing yourself a disservice by taking supplements. At best, you're probably doing nothing at all. (Sorry to bear the bad news!) Save your dough.

7 Crazy-delicious ways to add butter to your butter

Buttered coffee

It turns out that a golden pat of butter is just as delicious stirred into a cup of coffee as it is spread on a muffin. Who knew? The addition of butterfat in your coffee helps slow your body's caffeine absorption, giving you a steadier stream of energy over a longer period of time. Don't believe me? Give it a try — you'll be surprised at the difference even a small bit of butter can make in your morning cup-o-Joe.

Fresh butter on bread

You can make that experience even more luxurious by making your own butter. When I was little I remember pouring cream into a jar and shaking it until I thought my arms would fall off. But the fatigue was well worth it for the thick, creamy butter that was created. As an adult, you can get even better results by using a stand mixer — no elbow grease required.

Butter makes basically everything better — even butter. Below are some of the boldest buttery recipes we could find, where butter doesn't just act as a flavor booster; it's the main star. So grab your homemade butter and hide away your scale — these buttery goods are too tasty to have just one.

1. Brown butter cake with brown butter frosting

2. Brown butter banana bread

Hot, buttered banana bread fresh from the oven is one of the coziest foods in the world. Add some browned butter into the batter itself and we're really talking.

3. Butter poached butterflied shrimp and steel-cut oat risotto

Succulent shrimp are even tastier when they're poached in your melted homemade butter. Butterfly them for added pizzaz, and so there's one more crevasse for them to pick up all that buttery goodness... you know you want more.

4. Creamy hot buttered rum

This is the type of drink that will send you right to sleep, making hot buttered rum the perfect nightcap to sip by the fire. Butter, brown sugar and spices mingle with rum and cream to deliver you the dreamiest drink imaginable.

5. Buttermilk biscuits

Buttermilk biscuits

Buttermilk and butter have a natural affinity for one another, and this recipe contains both in spades. Still not enough? Spread some of your homemade butter over a split buttermilk biscuit right out of the oven. You'll never look at the Pillsbury Dough Boy the same way again.

6. Butternut squash pizza with brown butter sauce

Hey, a pizza with squash on it has gotta be healthy, right? Better pour on some nutty brown butter sauce to make up for it.

How #RichKids' Morgan Stewart really feels about her haters (VIDEO)

Season 2 of E!'s series about the offspring of the rich and famous is coming to a close soon. Now that she's got nearly two seasons under her belt, Stewart revealed what it's like to look back on earlier episodes.

Is the 3-boobed woman faking it?

"The beginning of the first season was definitely very hard for me to watch," she revealed.

Stewart admitted she is the kind of person who watches old episodes through her fingers, cringing at the things she used to say and do. She will talk to herself on screen and say, "I can't believe you said that, I can't believe you wore that, I can't believe you were screaming."

It seems Stewart is her biggest critic, finding fault with the way she did things in those episodes. She said she thought she had a "very butch personality" back then, adding that, "As time has gone on, I've gotten a lot better, but still not great."

Unfortunately, Stewart isn't her only critic, but she doesn't let mean comments get to her. In fact, she kind of enjoys them. "I feel like I like the negative ones because that means people are jealous of me, which means I'm making it," she shared.

Stewart admitted that she celebrates every time someone says something rude about her, which is probably a heck of a lot healthier than going into a depression about it and taking it personally. "I'm emotionally stable. You can't get caught up in this nonsense."

Good for her!

Stewart also talked about her blog, called Boobs & Loubs, and said that it's been doing really well, though she sometimes feels like she has "no idea what Boobs & Loubs is really about."

As for her love life, Stewart said that she and Brendan Fitzpatrick are still happily in love and they haven't let the pressures of doing a reality TV show get to them. "I think if you're solid going into it, you're solid in the process," Stewart said.

"We're happy and until we're not happy, we're just going to be together," Stewart said about their relationship.

In the interview, Stewart also shared her favorite moments to watch on the show and the moments that she probably wishes she'd never have to sit through again.

Stewart also answered our question about whether or not there will be a Season 3. Want to know what she said? Watch the video to find out.

At first I wasn't sure how these little cakes were going to turn out. Would they taste too boring? Would the flavor not carry through by using quinoa? Well, I'm happy to report this recipe has made me a quinoa fan. They cooked up crunchy, full of flavor and perfect for dipping in the homemade smoked paprika lime yogurt dip. This is the perfect holiday appetizer.
