Creamy greek yogurt mac 'n cheese with spinach

My husband is a mac and cheese fiend. Knowing this, if I was a good wife, I'd make it more often. But the thought of the state of my kitchen afterward is usually enough to deter me. With multiple pots, casserole dishes for baked versions and cheese everywhere, it's just not worth the effort most times.

Creamy greek yogurt mac 'n cheese with spinach

Not only is this Greek yogurt version a one-pot meal that comes together in literally 15 minutes, but it's healthy to boot. No caloric bomb béchamel sauces, just healthy, protein-packed Greek yogurt is used for the creaminess. Your kitchen and your hips will thank you.

Creamy Greek yogurt mac 'n' cheese with spinach recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups elbow pasta
  • 1-1/2 cups shredded cheese (any will do, but I used 1/2 cheddar, 1/2 mozzarella)
  • 2/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 3 cups baby spinach
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the pasta, and cook according to the package directions.
  2. Drain the pasta, reserving 1 cup of the cooking water.
  3. Return the pasta to the pot, and add the cheeses, yogurt and spinach. Add the reserved cooking water to thin the sauce as needed.
  4. Toss until the spinach is wilted and the cheese is coating all the pasta.
  5. Season with salt and pepper, and serve immediately.

Michael Jackson

It's been five years since Michael Jackson's tragic death, but his music still lives on strong thanks to new-age technology and some pretty talented producers who contemporized old demos for his just-released album Xscape. Just a day after the album hit stores, the music video for the lead single "Love Never Felt So Good" with Justin Timberlake hit the blogosphere and reminded us exactly why Jackson was considered one of the greatest entertainers in pop music.

In the four-minute video, JT — along with a group of talented dancers of all ages — uses various MJ music videos settings to mimic some of Jackson's timeless moves for the late King of Pop's video. In addition to mimicking the moves like the routine from "Thriller" and the moonwalk, the clip also features visual takes of MJ from classics like "Beat It," "Bad" and "Smooth Criminal."

Katherine Jackson's on the hook for AEG Live's court costs >>

"'Cause baby, every time I love you/ In and out of my life, in out baby/ Tell me if you really love me/ It's in and out my life in out baby/ So baby, yes, love never felt so good," Jackson sings during the song's hook, before Timberlake does the honors during the second verse. "Love Never Felt So Good" was produced by a mega-team including Timberlake, Timbaland, J-Roc and John McClain.

In a chat with MTV News, the now-divorced Timbaland spoke about what it was like to work on the posthumous project. "I forgot about Michael for a moment and then when I kept hearing his voice, it was like, 'I'm doing Michael Jackson,'" he said. "It got emotional. I had to tell my engineer to stop, we gotta go to something else. It took about a week [to] process, to really grasp what I'm doing. And once I grasped what I'm doing, I had to call my mom for prayer, like, 'I need some help, I need some guidance on this, 'cause this is hard.'"

Rachel Bilson may not be thought of as a big star, but she has had a successful career since her big break on The O.C. a decade ago. The star is now 32, in a long-term relationship, but still feels like a child sometimes. She joked about her size and how it sometimes makes her second-guess having children.

Girl Crush Extra: Rachel Bilson spills Hart of Dixie spoilers >>

"I've always looked young because I'm so short, and especially if I'm dressed down," she told Health magazine. "When I have a baby, everyone's going to be like, 'Awww, poor teen mom. Poor girl.' And Teen Mom is my favorite show. I know, pathetic. But it's true."

Bilson did say she wants to have children in the next few years, and added, "I can just see this little toddler waddling around the house."

The actress has a successful TV show and has been dating Hayden Christensen for the past seven years. Those years have been important for the couple, and Bilson said they have "grown up together in a way.

"He's so incredibly supportive and considerate,” she explained, according to People. "It's so basic — that should be there. Because these things are so much more important when you're older. This is my partner, my support, just there for me no matter what. And vice versa."

The Hart of Dixie star has kept her name out of the headlines, and she said it's because she has never been one for partying. Starring in a successful TV show in her early 20s also helped.

"I grew up in LA and did all that when I was younger. I went to the clubs and did all the drugs and alcohol," she said. "I got it out of my system, so by the time I was on The O.C., I was like, 'Wow, I can just enjoy this.' Then I started dating a costar [Adam Brody], so it was more of a domesticated thing."

The O.C. nostalgia: Ben McKenzie admits he was naive >>

That domestication includes staying home and watching TV shows like Family Feud, and getting as comfortable as possible.

"I'm really into the granny nightgown, I'm just gonna say. Like, full-on long-sleeve, long nightgowns. They're super-comfortable!" she said. "They're cozy. You just feel free. You're like, 'Oh! I'm in a dress. But I'm sleeping!' I secretly wish I could be 80. If I could, I would be 80. It would be amazing."

Bilson's issue of Health magazine will be on newsstands May 16.

Rockin' news: Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl nabs his own show

Details are still sketchy on this upcoming project, but we're still giddy with fangirl excitement. According to Classic Rock Magazine, Dave Grohl and HBO are teaming up to bring a new series to the cable network. Uh, cool?

Dave Grohl aims for rock god status >>

According to the mag, the show will be a mix of interviews, studio tours and musical showcases. Grohl has already recently visited Steve Albini's Electrical Audio in Chicago and Don Zientara's Inner Ear in Washington, D.C., plus plenty more studios scattered across the country. He's also lined up some all-star talent for interviews, including Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson, Ian MacKaye of Fugazi and Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, as well as Kiss front man Paul Stanley.

The project is the perfect next step for Grohl. His last pet project, Sun Studios, was a major success. The documentary told the story of Los Angeles' renowned Sun Studios and interviewed musicians who have recorded in the space. The doc and its accompanying soundtrack were honored with nominations for countless awards. We can't imagine this next project won't garner equal love and acclaim.

Dave Grohl and Joan Jett team up for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame >>

Grohl has his hands full already, though. Aside from being, you know, the front man for Foo Fighters, Grohl has his hands in multiple pots. He's still an active part of Queens of the Stone Age. He's also been spotted alongside his band mates in Joshua Tree, California, where they're recording their next album. That inevitably means another tour is in their future.

As of right now, the project is still in the very early stages. No title has been released and a premiere date has yet to be announced by HBO. It sounds like a sure thing, though, so we're waiting with bated breath in anticipation.

Why Instagram is shutting down moms' accounts

Last Saturday evening, the Instagram account of Heather Bays was deactivated shortly after a negative comment was left on a breastfeeding selfie she posted. She protested, but the response she received was mixed, to say the least. Now her account has been reinstated, but we're left to wonder what the deal is. The hypocrisy of censoring a breastfeeding or baby photo when photos of thong-clad bottoms are allowed is another major question that should be answered.

Violation of terms

Bays posted a stunning selfie of her snuggling and nursing her 20-month-old daughter. A comment soon followed, saying simply, "Not cool." A few hours later, she began receiving emails from Instagram stating that some of her images violated their terms of use, and her account was deactivated.

Multiple attempts to contact the company received no results on Sunday, but after taking her story to social media, Instagram reinstated her account, albeit with some photos missing. She was then told by Instagram staff that it wasn't the breastfeeding photo that prompted the closure. Instead, it was because topless photos of her daughter are considered child pornography. Keep in mind, her daughter is 20 months old.

She's not alone

Bays is not the only person to have their Instagram account closed without communication. Mandy Allender had her first Instagram account (@Tempestbeauty) disabled for similar reasons, but she has never been able to rouse a response from the powers-that-be. "The loss of my original account is heartbreaking to me," she explains. "Four thousand images. The birth of my third child. Priceless breastfeeding photos. But not just that, because I had all of the images backed up to my computer... but the loss of the story. I treat Instagram like a living scrapbook, a documentation of our daily lives. The connections matter. The people matter. It mattered. And now it is gone."

She has established a second account (@tmpstbty) but it simply isn't the same. Again, several photos have been deleted from her account, and again, no explanation has been given. "I know each person has their own level of acceptable or safe, and that Instagram surely has to have some sort of policy on the subject, but I feel like they have gone overboard with deleting and disabling accounts that are really nothing more than beautiful," she says.

Underlying issues

Jodine Chase, a breastfeeding advocate, was interviewed by CBC Radio about Bays' Instagram issue and relates that as social media websites grow, the staff doesn't grow at the same rate. "At these numbers they don’t really have full control over their network," she shares. "Their staff numbers don’t grow proportionately, and in the absence of good training and policy, the staff who review reports bring their own values to the system."

She ponders what message it sends when a mom's breastfeeding and family photos are censored in such a way. "Women look for support online and this issue affects their ability to get that support," she says. "Researchers have found lack of support for breastfeeding in public is a factor in early weaning. So this isn’t just a women’s rights, or a human rights issue — it’s also a public health issue."

While Bays' account was reinstated, the worry remains for all other women who don't have the ability to generate a social media push.

4 Driving nightmares you can avoid

$

Woman with road rage

Driving nightmare #1: Flat tire

Nobody likes getting a flat tire. In fact, a recent Harris Poll study conducted by Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC showed that while nearly 75 percent of drivers have experienced a flat tire, only 60 percent know how to change one. Who needs the inconvenience and aggravation of changing a tire on the side of the road or waiting around for help to arrive? (Let's just say over 40 percent of the study's respondents would rather scrub the toilet than change a flat tire.)

Precaution: Bridgestone DriveGuard tires are the first full line of run-flat tires available for 2008 model year and newer coupes, sedans and wagons not originally equipped with run-flat tires. Featuring specially designed run-flat technology, DriveGuard tires let drivers continue to drive up to 50 miles at maximum speeds of 50 miles per hour following a puncture or loss of pressure. No more being stuck on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck or having to change the tire yourself.

Watch: Put run flat tires on your car and never let this happen to you

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/V8HiSr0i7uo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Driving nightmare #2: Road rage

Stressful driving conditions (heavy traffic, slow drivers, tailgating) can result in unchecked anger and violent behavior. While giving the "middle finger salute" might make an upset driver feel better, it can lead to an escalation of rage and possibly a car accident.

Precaution: Believe it or not, research is underway to develop in-car facial-recognition software that detects a driver's building anger. Switzerland's École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne has teamed with PSA Peugeot Citroën to test a prototype camera that tracks facial movements and expressions to read a person's emotions. Perhaps in the future, we'll have a car that can talk us off the ledge, but for now, we'll have to rely on self-calming techniques to keep a level head while driving.

Watch: A humorous take on road rage

Driving nightmare #3: Hydroplaning

If you've ever experienced a hydroplane, you know it is not an experience you want to repeat. In a hydroplane situation, the vehicle completely loses contact with the ground and skims right over the road's surface.

Precaution: An important way to help prevent a hydroplane is to properly maintain your tires. How? Amanda DeHart, Firestone service manager in Austin, Texas, says there are three words to remember when it comes to tire care: "Inflate, rotate, evaluate." Recommended tire pressure for each vehicle is listed in the owner's manual or inside the car door. DeHart suggests having tires rotated and balanced every time the oil is changed. Not sure if you need new tires? A good way to check and make sure tires have enough tread is to stick a penny in the tread upside down. If the tread doesn't touch Lincoln's body, it may be time to "get some new feet on your vehicle."

Watch: Take care of your tires, watch your speed and avoid a hydroplane.

Quick tip

For more wet-weather driving tips, check out this SheKnows article on how to stop a hydroplane.

Driving nightmare #4: Brake failure

Pressing your foot on the brakes and getting no response is probably the worst driving nightmare of all.

Precaution: Never neglect brake maintenance. Check your owner's manual and have your brakes serviced at the recommended intervals or when brake pads show wear. Even if you're a procrastinator, this is one car-maintenance item you should never delay.

Watch: A rear-end collision caused this Taiwanese driver's brakes to fail on a treacherous road.

7 Things that are way cooler to drag around than cabbage

Cabbage

A vacuum cleaner

There are plenty of benefits to dragging around a vacuum cleaner. First and foremost, its lifespan on a leash has got to be longer than cabbage. Plus, it's useful — if you find a power source, you can use your vacuum pet to do everything from clean up crumbs to pull up your hair.

A mailbox

Mailbox GIF

GIF credit: Brobible.com

Who doesn't love to get mail? Opening up your mailbox and finding something is one of life's simple joys. If you drag around a mailbox, everything you store in it and pull out later will feel delightfully like a present delivered via the postal system.

A bowling ball

Bowling Ball GIF

When you're dragging a bowling ball behind you on a leash, you don't have to worry about how bad you are at the actual sport. Not to mention, unlike cabbage, a bowling ball will just roll right over every bit of debris and every bump in the road, as opposed to getting snagged and basically turned into coleslaw along the way.

A cardboard box (or two)

Cardboard Box

A plain old cardboard box, when dragged around, is basically like a mobile hotel. You can literally pack your bed right into it and just pop open the flaps and crawl in when you're ready for some shut-eye. And if you're looking for a quick pick-me-up to put a smile on your face, a cardboard box also makes a great prop for pranks (aka, scaring the living daylights out of anyone who crosses your path).

A picture of Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling

Does this need any further explanation? Suffice it to say, we feel as though a picture of Ryan Gosling would be far superior company to a head of cabbage. Is a head of cabbage going to keep you warm? Tell you how beautiful you are? OK, fine... the picture won't either. But a girl can dream, can't she?

A pillow

When it comes to usability, the applications are endless with a pillow — you can sit on it, lie on it, arm yourself with it for the impromptu pillow fight, buffer sound with it, etc., etc., etc. Bonus? Just take a cue from Mr. Pillowhead and use your "leash" to wrap the pillow on your head during the day, so you never have to be without a cushy spot to rest your cranium.

A robot

Because, well, c'mon... what's cooler than a robot? One of these little mechanical wonders would put your friends' cabbage pets to shame.

Angelina Jolie's makeup blunder

People everywhere were astounded when the Angelina Jolie showed up to the Normal Heart screening seemingly unaware of how strangely her makeup was photographing and soon all the attention was on her "problem" rather than her world-famous beauty. Gossip sites called it a "disaster" and cackled with glee that even the queen of Hollywood could fall victim to such a rookie mistake as showing up with visible high-definition makeup powder all over her face and chest.

But what's with all the mean-girl behavior? The translucent powder is designed to look invisible to the naked eye but make skin look smooth and pore-less under intense lighting and cameras. Unfortunately, if you're in a hurry or if your makeup artist is having a bad day and it doesn't get blended properly, the reflective particles can catch the camera's flash and show up looking like you've had flour thrown in your face.

Angelina Jolie's makeup blunder

Seeing as Jolie is a busy mother of six, wife, humanitarian, ambassador, director — oh and she does a few little films here are there — it's completely understandable that she might end up rushed. I think it's great she was out to support husband Brad Pitt's new film even as she is in the midst of her own publicity tour for Maleficent. Not to mention she looked stunning in her black dress.

The incident highlights a big problem with the way women sometimes talk about other women. We want to see our sisters succeed — but only so far. I've had plenty of my own makeup disasters. (In middle school I thought if I wore blue eyeliner and blue mascara that would magically make my brown eyes look blue. It didn't.) And I can understand why it feels good to see someone who is normally so perfectly put together end up in the same boat as the rest of us. Being a celebrity doesn't make her less human, even if she seems supernatural sometimes.

But in the end it doesn't do women any good to pull down those above us in an effort to make ourselves feel better by comparison. Rather we should be looking around to see who we can lift up because if we all did so, there'd be no limit to how high we can rise. And we'd all see we're doing a lot better than we think.

Hot new couple alert: Olivia Munn is dating Aaron Rodgers

Well that was a quick turnaround. No sooner had the media talked about the split between Olivia Munn and her boyfriend of two years, RoboCop star, Joel Kinnaman, it looks like the Newsroom star has a new man on her arm.

According to Us Weekly, the 33-year-old actress is dating Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. The budding couple was spotted dining at the celeb hot spot, Nobu Malibu, last Saturday. There was a bit of canoodling going on, too.

No romantic sparks between Chris Martin and Alexa Chung >>

The source shared that Munn and the athlete kissed several times while dining with their friends at the sushi joint. The two were first seen together at last month's 49th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas where they presented an award together.

It looks like sparks flew offstage, as well, because the NFL star and Munn were photographed together backstage. The relationship then went from an awards show to real life.

Munn has been single for several months, even though the news of her split from Kinnaman is relatively new to the public. They were last seen together in February, but their busy schedules were to blame for the breakup.

An insider told Us Weekly back in late April, "They ended things a few months ago but both seem fine. A lot had to do with distance. He's back filming in Toronto and she's now in L.A. for good."

Rihanna mocks fan's #PromBat dress homage

High school student Alexis Carter just wanted to imitate her idol, Rihanna, at her prom. Now, what was just an admittedly-odd fashion choice has turned into an internet meme and a sad example of cyber bullying, led by the pop star herself.

Carter donned a low-cut pantsuit with batwing-like arms and legs for her prom in homage to a green Alexandre Vauthier jumpsuit Rihanna wore to the Echo Awards in 2010. The star was widely panned for her unusual outfit back then, and Carter didn't fare much better. Her photo sparked the #PromBat hashtag and meme and, if being mocked by total strangers wasn't bad enough, Rihanna herself joined in to fan the flames.

Carter told Fox 5 Baltimore she really loved the outfit and is heartbroken that Rihanna would make fun of her for wearing the same thing she did.

"I was like, 'Oh my god, I love this outfit, I wanna go with this outfit. Let me go show my mom,' and I was like, 'Mom, Mom, Mom, I wanna wear this, it's cool, I love it, oh my god," she told the news station.

"I was very offended," she said of Rihanna's tweets. "Why throw shade on it when you had on the exact same thing? The poses was different but the outfit wasn't.

"She don't love her fans like she says she does."

To drive her point home, Carter changed the background on her own Twitter page to Chris Brown wallpaper.

Eczema 101

Mother putting lotion on baby | Sheknows.com

When it comes to treating dry, itchy skin like eczema, you want to reach for relief for your child as soon as possible — which often means buying over-the-counter ointments. But which lotions work the best?

Treatments for a common skin issue

Before you dump big bucks into trying to figure out which moisturizer soothes the pain away, get schooled in eczema 101 and discover affordable, mom-approved salves for dry skin in kids.

What is eczema?

"Your child's immune system is over actively responding to irritants."

Also known as atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema in its most common form, "eczema in children is an inflammatory immune response which creates red, dry, scaly, itchy skin," explains Dr. Lawrence Samuels, chief of dermatology at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. And, while 10 to 20 percent of infants and three percent of adults and children in the U.S. are affected by eczema, according to WebMD, most infants outgrow the condition by the time they are 10 years old. This ultra-dry skin condition can appear anywhere on your child's body, but infants are most commonly affected on their face and scalp, while older kids frequently experience it on the face or behind the knees, hands, feet or wrists. You can spot the affected areas by a very dry, thickened appearance that can even change your child's skin's pigmentation, sometimes accompanied by oozing and crusting.

The good news is that this medical condition can be controlled with proper treatment.

How to reduce eczema

It's frustrating to watch your youngster suffer from eczema, especially knowing that doctors aren't exactly sure what causes this severe form of dry skin in kids. But it's believed that your child's immune system is over actively responding to irritants and eczema is usually found in families with a history of allergies or asthma. Here are a few tips to help your child avoid flare-ups.

  • Slather on the hydration, advises pediatric dermatologist Dr. Michael Shapiro of Vanguard Dermatology. "The best way to reduce eczema is to hydrate the skin with ointments and creams twice a day."
  • Prevent your child from getting too hot or too cold, both in and out of the bath.
  • Ask your pediatrician to prescribe an allergy test to pinpoint possible triggers. "In certain children, food may be associated with eczema flare-ups," cautions dermatologist Dr. David Bank of The Center for Dermatology. "If there is an association noted, be sure to stay away from the offending ingredients. Common foods include eggs, milk, soy."
  • Avoid contact with coarse or rough materials.
  • Dr. Shapiro suggests moisturizing your youngster's skin right after baths or showers to lock in the hydration.
  • Steer clear of household products that contain harsh soaps or detergents.
  • Be aware that upper respiratory infections and colds can trigger eczema in children.
  • Limit bathing, reveals Dr. Shapiro. "Parents must remember, water is not their friend, and washing every day may not be the best for every child's skin conditions. Sometimes it's better to wash every other day, and make sure the water is warm, not hot, and never longer than 10 minutes."
  • Reduce stress, which can cause the dry skin in kids to worsen.

Sadly there is no cure for eczema at any age, but the good news is the condition isn't contagious. Your child's pediatrician can prescribe a medicated ointment to help manage flare-ups, but there are a few tried-and-true over-the-counter moisturizers moms love.

Discover 5 ways to soothe chicken pox in children >>

Over-the-counter ointments and lotions to treat eczema in kids

Suspect your child's itchiness is eczema? Then it's important to seek the advice of your pediatrician. "Controlling the itch prevents scratching, which damages the epidermis and can create sores which can become secondarily infected," explains Dr. Samuels, so hydrating your child's skin ASAP is key. Moms swear by these over-the-counter ointments, lotions and moisturizers to treat dry skin in kids.

Ideal for children of all ages, Exederm also bears the National Eczema Association 'Seal of Acceptance' with a score of 5 out of 5.

Aquaphor Baby
Healing Ointment

Aquaphor | Sheknows.com

Aquaphor makes a baby line of over-the-counter ointments, washes and shampoos that offer gentle soothing, care and relief for your baby's cracked or raw skin. "My 18-month-old has bad eczema. We're huge fans of Aquaphor for him — we've tried a number of products and Aquaphor works best," shares Heather Serignese, of Glastonbury, Connecticut. "His pediatrician also recommended lathering him up with the Aquaphor while he's in the tub — it makes him very slippery but helps seal in the moisture." The fragrance-free, non-irritating product is also recommended for soothing drool rash and diaper rash.

Before you choose any treatment for dry skin in kids, be sure to consult with your pediatrician about your child's skin condition. While this information is not meant to replace professional medical advice, these over-the-counter ointments and lotions could help give your youngster relief in the moment.

Academy Award-winning director Malik Bendjelloul committed suicide, his brother confirmed to Swedish media.

The Searching for Sugar Man creator suffered from depression and chose to end his own life.

"I can confirm that it was suicide and that he had been depressed for a short period of time," his brother Johar Bendjelloul told Aftonbladet. "Life is not always so easy... It's the worst. I don't know how to handle it."

Bendjelloul was found dead in Stockholm last week. Police would not confirm where his body was located or a suspected cause of death, and his brother provided no further details.

The acclaimed director won multiple awards for his documentary detailing the quest to find out if American musician Sixto Rodriguez was alive or dead, including an Oscar for Best Documentary in 2013, a BAFTA, Director's Guild of America Award, Producer's Guild of America Award, Writer's Guild of America Award and the Sundance Audience Award.

Death of Julia Roberts' sister ruled a suicide >>

Rodriguez, who experienced a career resurgence as result of the film, told Billboard the death was a "shock.

"He was a very talented man and hard-working artist — he proved it by hitting an Academy Award his first time out," the singer and songwriter said. "My deepest condolences to his family. Rest in peace."

Sony Pictures Classics, who distributed Searching for Sugar Man, released a statement calling the director a "genuine" artist.

"Much like Rodriguez himself, Malik was a genuine person who chased the world for stories to tell," it said in a statement.

"He didn't chase fame, fortune or awards, although those accolades still found him as many others recognized his storytelling."

Fellow documentary director Michael Moore tweeted his sorrow.

Bendjelloul was just 36 years old.

New study on newborn heart anomalies

In a recent study lead by pediatric cardiologist at Seattle Children's Hospital Patrick M. Sullivan, M.D., researchers examined whether or not smoking while pregnant was tied to children born with heart defects. Dr. Sullivan witnessed how children and their families suffered daily when battling heart disease. "I saw this research as an opportunity to identify what might be a preventable cause of congenital heart defects, and the hardship that comes with it," he explains. And the results were telling — the medical team found a 50 to 70 percent increase in the likelihood that newborns of mothers who smoked during pregnancy would have anomalies of the heart valve.

Smoking linked to babies with heart defects

While low birth weight is a commonly known adverse side effect of smoking while pregnant, researchers inspected hospital discharge records of babies born between 1989 and 2011 and report a strong correlation between pregnant smokers and babies with heart defects. Specifically, of the examined records of the 14,128 children born with heart defects and 62,274 children who were born without heart defects, the team found that youngsters born with anomalies of the right side of the heart and defects in the atrial septum were more likely to have been born to women who smoked during pregnancy. So, why aren't more women snuffing out smoking once they're with child?

Not quitting smoking during pregnancy

According to researchers, 10 percent of women giving birth — particularly younger women — reported smoking during pregnancy in recent years. "Ongoing cigarette use during pregnancy is a serious problem that increases the risk of many adverse outcomes in newborns," stated Dr. Sullivan. "Our research provides strong support for the hypothesis that smoking while pregnant increases the risk of specific heart defects." Kicking the habit at any point during your pregnancy is a healthier choice for both you and your pea in the pod, but it's interesting to note that the study found that 1 to 2 percent of all heart defects could be pinpointed to maternal smoking during the first trimester. And, the older you are and the heavier you smoke, the higher the risk that your baby will be born with a heart defect. Women 35 years of age and older were also found to be less likely to light up while pregnant than their younger counterparts.

Kicking the habit is hard, but being counted as one of the 10 percent of women who still smoke while pregnant is dangerous for both you and your baby-to-be. Talk with your medical provider about the best route for quitting smoking while pregnant and give your newborn the healthiest start possible.

Kindergartner assaulted by teacher in the hallway

Kindergarten children | Sheknows.com

Parents Anthony and Autumn Nelson of Wharton, Ohio, were surprised when they got a letter from their 6-year-old son's school detailing an "incident" that occurred in the hallway with his teacher — but they were more than surprised when they saw the actual video surveillance of the event.

They were furious.

The shocking footage shows their son Ian, who is a kindergartner, ambling innocently down the hall to the restroom, only to be ambushed by his teacher when he comes out. First, the teacher (named as Barb Williams) lifts him under the arms and physically forces him against the wall, where she proceeds to grab him by the head and shirt, all while appearing to scold him. At one point, Ian's head lolls back as he dangles helplessly in the air. The video ends with Ian reaching up to his face, seemingly to try to soothe where she grabbed him, before she jerks him into the bathroom again — a part of the video that isn't even mentioned. What on earth was she doing taking him into the bathroom? And why is she out in the hallway alone? Who's teaching the rest of the students?

Ian's parents maintain that the school seemed to downplay the abuse in the letter that was sent home to them, making it seem like a "little incident" and only suspending the teacher for the last remaining 10 days of the school year.

"This is outrageous," said the boy's father. The parents plan to take the video to the county sheriff to press for criminal charges and are calling for the permanent termination of the teacher.

This is one instance where I'm calling for a zero-tolerance policy in school.

A zero-tolerance policy for any teacher who dares lay a hand on any student.

It looks like it's going to be one hot summer, and Danity Kane just served up something to keep you cool and refreshed with their comeback single "Lemonade," which was released at midnight on Wednesday, May 14.

"Lemonade" is the kind of icy blend of Pop&B that the group mastered on their first two albums and features a guest spot from Tyga. Over pounding drums, snaps and a sample courtesy of Clipse's "Grindin'," the comeback kids take on the haters during the almost five-minute track. "Ohh, these haters got a sour-a** look upon their face/ Lemonade, lemonade, lemonade, lemonade/ Ooh, they looking so thirsty/ They might just need a drink," DK croons during the track's chorus.

Danity Kane hooked up with The Stereotypes for "Lemonade" and it's no surprise, since the production team also worked on their 2008 VMA-nominated hit "Damaged."

Even though the girls are all up in your face on the hip-hop anthem, the cover art for the single is more on the cutesy side with three girls hanging outside their lemonade stand. Word of Danity Kane's new track lit up social media. Despite startling silence from one of their members Aundrea Fimbres, the other girls took to their accounts to share the new song and give thanks to all those that helped make the movement happen. Just hours after unveiling the song, the group made Twitter's trending topic list. At time of press, Danity Kane was also on Facebook's trending list.

Next up for Danity Kane is the launch of their national #DKNoFilter tour, which kicks off Friday, May 16, in San Francisco. It was also announced that the group will take part in LA Pride as performers for the festival on Sunday.

Beyoncé's wedding ring tattoo is a thing of the past

The Knowles-Carter media hurricane continues. Just days after the internet exploded over video footage of Solange attacking brother-in-law Jay Z in an elevator as Beyoncé stood by in disturbing silence, rumors of a growing rift between the sisters and the couple hit the blogosphere. To top things off, Beyoncé was recently spotted pre-video attending a basketball game with barely a trace of the wedding ring tattoo that she and Jay Z got inked several years ago.

Despite it being years since the red Roman numerals IV tattoo was done, the entertainer also posted a photo on Tumblr not too long ago with tape over her finger, which has led some to believe that she's actually had the artwork removed. Beyoncé and Jay Z's matching tattoos have double meaning. Not only does the number four represent both of their birthdays, but it also is symbolic of the day they got married.

The other rumored rift in the family between Beyoncé and little sister Solange has appeared to ease up, at least according to the social media realm and probably a crew of very tactful publicity reps. Despite an apparent absence from her Instagram account, Solange took the time to dedicate a Throwback Thursday photo to her big sister. Let's hope for a happy sibling reunion.

On Thursday, May 14, it was reported that New York City's Standard Hotel fired the unnamed employee who leaked the infamous footage for "breaching the security policies of the hotel and recording the confidential CCTV video," according to ABC News. Shortly after the video went viral, the hotel released a statement expressing their disappointment and telling the public that they would comply with an investigation by turning over "all available information to criminal authorities."

Watermelon blondie bars that look and taste just like the fruit

Watermelon blondie bars

Watermelon has always reminded me of summertime. It's always cool and refreshing, and there is just something about that pink and green color combination that makes me smile. Since it's not watermelon season just yet, I wanted to re-create everyone's favorite summer fruit in bar form — blondie bars, to be more specific.

Watermelon Blondie Bars

To make these fun treats, you will need a couple of ingredients to provide the watermelon flavor.

Watermelon Blondie Bars

The watermelon supreme fruit juice and watermelon-flavored Jell-O were found at my local food store and provided the watermelon flavor. If you can't find these items, then you can always leave them out and just go for bars with the watermelon look.

Watermelon Blondie Bars

Once the batter is mixed, divide it into 2 sections. Tint 1/3 of the batter light green and 2/3 of the batter pink. If you want to go for an authentic watermelon look, then sprinkle some black sesame seeds on top. You could probably use mini chocolate chips too.

After the entire pan has cooled, cut into triangle slices. Then dig in (milk might be required!).

Watermelon Blondie Bars

The watermelon flavor definitely comes through in these bars and is a fun start to the almost summer season.

Former Vampire Diaries costars and real-life lovebirds Joseph Morgan and Persia White are engaged to be married.

Morgan confirmed the engagement to E! News while at The CW's Upfront event in New York City last Thursday. The British actor starred briefly with White while the pair both worked on the hit vampire show. They met back in 2011 and hit it off right away. As for how the proposal went down, Morgan prefers to keep the mystery to himself, although he did share some of the highlights.

Hiss all you want: Caroline & Klaus' love is eternal >>

"I'm not going to go into specific detail," the hunky actor teased. "But I tried to be romantic. It was a nerve-wracking moment but it was special."

White played Abby Bennett on Diaries, the mom of series regular Bonnie Bennett. Morgan portrays the famous original vampire Klaus Mikaelson, the hybrid vampire who ventured over to New Orleans to star on his own spin-off series The Originals.

Besides being an actress, the former Girlfriends star is also a passionate animal rights activist and has devoted her time to help end animal cruelty since she was 12. She was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and has also lived in the Bahamas.

Besides revealing their big wedding plans at Upfront last week, Morgan and White spoke about their engagement to Wetpaint on Wednesday.

VIDEO: The Flash trailer teases Arrow bromance

The trailer for the new Arrow spin-off, The Flash, is only a minute long. But if you look closely enough, you can learn a lot from just those few seconds.

Who's hotter? Stephen Amell vs. Colton Haynes >>

The video shows Oliver (aka the Arrow) walking over hills and through woods until he reaches a paper target set up on a tree. Oliver (Stephen Amell) readies an arrow, takes aim and fires. But before the arrow can hit its target, The Flash (Grant Gustin) snatches it from the air. Flash gives a triumphant yell and Oliver can only grumble, "Showoff."

In just that one minute, the trailer for The Flash gives high hopes that the new CW series will open the door to a new bromance. Barry and Oliver got to interact a little bit in the episode of Arrow where viewers first got to meet the man who would become The Flash, and fans already saw how much chemistry they had together. The trailer proves the two characters will play off each other well when they do interact within their two series.

About time! Arrow finally gives Oliver a mask >>

Oliver and The Flash are two completely different kinds of guys, but their personalities work great together. Barry is the young guy, excited about his new powers and ready to show them off, while Oliver gained his skills through a brutal trial that has left him with a heavier heart. Oliver will undoubtedly teach Barry that The Flash will need to learn control, while Barry might be able to help Oliver lighten up sometimes.

Does this mean that the long-running bromance between Oliver and his best bud Diggle is in danger? Not at all, but it's good for Oliver to have more than one best friend. Also, it will be nice for Ollie to have a buddy who is also in the superhero business. Talk about male bonding.

10 Most memorable Barbara Walters moments

Barbara Walters in 1976

Photo credit: Raymond Borea/Archive Photos/Getty Images

Walters worked for two years to land a sit-down with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and, in 1977, she got it. Held the same year Castro's country was holding nearly a dozen American hostages, Walters seized the opportunity to grill Fidel on everything from communism to his own death. Interestingly enough, rumors of a secret love connection between the two have dogged Walters for years.

While Katherine Hepburn was known as a quirky character, it was Barbara Walters who was throwing out the offbeat questions (something she later became known for) in the pair's 1981 interview. Among the most notorious was what Babs would later call one of the biggest gaffes of her career: "What kind of tree are you, if you think you're a tree?"

Nothing Michael Jackson ever did was boring, and his 1997 interview with Barbara Walters was no exception. In his bizarre but genuinely interesting sit-down with Babs, Jackson opened up about everything from the paparazzi to his fears about premature death. Plus, in a moment of sad foreshadowing, Jackson reveals his "doctor" gave him the news when Princess Diana died.

In what remains one of Walters' most buzzed-about interviews, Babs sat down with Monica Lewinsky to the tune of a record 74 million viewers. The most talked-about moment? When Walters asked what Lewinsky planned to tell her future children about her indiscretion with President Clinton, Lewinsky said she would tell them, "Mommy made a big mistake." To which Walters, in that sharp but fantastic way of hers, replied, "And that is the understatement of the year."

In Hugo Chavez's very first interview with an American journalist since the controversial leader called President Bush "the devil," Barbara Walters pointedly told Chavez that Americans essentially hate him. She then pried to uncover what the president of Venezuela though about being America's most hated.

Barbara Walters' 2010 interview with Justin Bieber is almost even more fascinating now than it was then, given how much the pop idol has changed in the last few years. Still, the interview — which was part of Babs' Most Fascinating People series — was memorable, particularly when he taught her how to dougie.

Barbara Walters slammed for Scientology defense >>

Even the queen of talk TV isn't impervious to Barbara Walters' special brand of tear-inducing interviews — Oprah got choked up during her 2010 chat with Walters while they discussed those relationship rumors involving Winfrey's best friend, Gayle King. Winfrey also got emotional when opening up to Walters about things like her weight struggles and surviving sexual abuse.

Miley, Miley, Miley... you can always count on Miss Cyrus to keep things interesting. In her December 2013 interview with Walters, Miles opened up on a hot-button topic at the time: her split from fiancé Liam Hemsworth. In the surprisingly honest and candid conversation, Cyrus admitted, "I don't think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn't change being engaged. It was fun wearing a fat rock for a few years. But now, I just feel like I can actually be happy."

Before everyone was talking about Lindsay Lohan, Barbara Walters went on the record to express her distaste at being dissed by the troubled starlet. The resulting segment of The View was one of the most talked-about for quite some time — and proof time hasn't dulled the Babs' edge.

Barbara Walters retirement date set >>

To celebrate bidding adieu to her lifelong career in broadcast journalism, Walters stopped by SNL to poke a little fun at herself. After a montage of SNL's various versions of Barbara Walters — performed by everyone from Gilda Radner to Cheri Oteri — Barbara Wawa declared it an honor "to see my groundbreaking career in journalism reduced to a cartoon character with a ridiculous voice."
