Round the world tickets

Buy one airplane ticket, travel to as many destinations as you please. Sound like a good deal? We think so, too. Many airlines offer "round the world" flight packages that let you select multiple destinations, and usually give you up to a year to make your way home. This unique travel technique allows you to see the world while paying less than you would for several one-way tickets, and keeps you moving because you've got someplace else to be.

Hostel

The concept of a hostel isn't necessarily new, but their popularity is. A hostel, if you've never stayed at one, is a bit like a dorm. There are lots of bunks and a bathroom that you share with the other bunk dwellers, and that's about it. Still, some seasoned travelers gravitate to them because they are inexpensive and it's a great way to make new friends.

Austin, a college senior who recently stayed at a hostel when in Buenos Aires, Argentina, enjoyed his experience. "Staying in a hostel was loads of fun for me. You get to meet people from around the world and since hostels are set up pretty much like army barracks, it's like having an adult sleepover every night. The downside is that you don't get your own bathroom and privacy can be in short supply. That can be trying, but if you're a sharing kind of person, hostels might be the economic way to go when traveling."

Wineries

If countries like Argentina, New Zealand, Italy and France appeal to you — and you love wine —consider working at a winery. Many wineries around the world trade work for food and accommodations. If you've recently retired or you're a teacher with a summer to burn, imagine learning the art of making wine in a country you've always wanted to explore — better yet, imagine getting to sample the fruits of your labor at the end of the day.

Dogsledding

A dogsledding travel adventure proves that if you have a hobby and some imagination, you can likely find a trip to accommodate your wildest dreams. Dog enthusiasts who don't mind the cold weather are in for the trek of a lifetime with guided, single day, cross-country skiing and multi-day trips. Mush, dog lovers, mush.

Work on a farm

WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) will soon become one of those experiences that will hit bucket lists everywhere. This organization matches volunteers with organic farms around the world, giving dirt-cheap traveling a whole new meaning. Imagine learning sustainable gardening techniques in your chosen corner of the world, and getting to see the region like a local (in the hours you're not helping to make the world a better place).

Trade houses and couches

The dating app concept isn't just for dating anymore. Now there are matchmaker websites for people and homes and people and couches. You can register with Home Exchange and trade houses with someone. Typically no money is exchanged — just homes — meaning you get to stay, for free, in a house of your choosing located in a destination of your choosing. Unbelievable, right?

While it might sound like something serial killers dreamed up, couch surfing is also a legitimate thing. The same exact concept applies, but people trade couch space instead of their whole home. People are doing these things, successfully — and making new friends while saving piles of money on lodging.

Justin Bieber & Miley Cyrus invent new ways to offend us

Justin Bieber the Belieber

Justin Bieber might be the most obnoxious person in pop culture today, and the most fascinating thing about that is he is completely oblivious. No matter how many high-profile celebs bash him, and no matter how many court days he racks up, he just keeps plowing through life, annoying everyone in his path.

Rumor mill says Miley Cyrus is hooking up with the Biebs' dad >>

His latest offense is preaching the gospel to Brandon Burke, talking about God and grace. After watching this, it left us wondering if Bieber's inexcusable behavior is testing even God's ability to forgive, because it's sure as hell testing ours.

Miley Cyrus, porn star

The only person giving Bieber a run for his money in the most obnoxious/offensive celeb race is Miley Cyrus. Girl just needs to give it the f*** up already. In the following NSFW (Not Suitable For Work), NSFA (Not Suitable For Anything) images, Cyrus demonstrates — on stage in London at the G-A-Y club — every sex act known to man. She rides a blow-up penis, performs oral sex on a blow-up doll, simulates masturbation, lets fans paw at her lady bits and yanks a G-string up her backside. Before you proceed, be warned. You can't unsee the God-awful things Cyrus does for attention on stage.

The Blacklist sneak peek: Who will win? Red vs. Tom

$

NBC's The Blacklist isn't just about the people who appear on Red's famous list, but about how everything is connected. At least, that's what Lizzie learned in the latest episode, titled "Berlin."

Mr. Grey turns Red: Best of The Blacklist's James Spader >>

After discovering that Red had killed her father, Lizzie decided enough was enough and she was done. Done with Red and done with the task force. She wanted out, and really, who could blame her? Since Red came into her life, things have started going horribly awry. Finding out that your husband was a man planted in your life to get close to a killer was just the most recent issue she had to deal with.

But once Lizzie discovered that all of Red's cases were interconnected and that someone very big was after him, she suddenly changed her mind and tried to save him. In one of the show's most emotional scenes, Lizzie begged Red to go with her so they could get away from the ever-closer FBI, but he refused. He insisted that coming close to death or capture would be worth it as long as he still had her in his life.

INTERVIEW: The Blacklist star reveals Aram's secrets >>

The season finale, titled "Berlin: Conclusion," promises more emotions, as well as a lot of danger for everyone on the team. The preview video shows the impending arrival of Berlin and how it will put all the members of the task force at risk. There will also be an intense showdown between Red and Tom, with Lizzie stuck in the middle. Who will live and who will die when the dust settles? Who will win in the Red vs. Tom showdown? Who is Berlin? All of these questions will (hopefully) be answered in the finale.

In the first photo from the episode, Mr. Fitch and Red sit down for a little chat.

Online community rallies with red balloons for Ryan

Red balloons for Ryan. The phrase by itself conjures a picture of an innocent little boy holding a cluster of red balloons. But the events that led to the creation of the #RedBalloonsForRyan hashtag are tragically heartbreaking — a 3-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle in front of his cousin's house. His mother's best friend has encouraged everyone to rally around the grieving family and has established a way for everyone to honor his memory with the color red, which he loved, and balloons, which he so thoroughly enjoyed.

Red balloons for Ryan

Alyssa Circle (who blogs at Diary of an Addict) is the best friend of Ryan's mom, Jacqui Saldana (who blogs at Baby Boy Bakery), and she has implored that the online community not forget Ryan. The hashtag #RedBalloonsForRyan was created to help offer support for grieving mom Jacqui and dad Dan in hopes that they will be comforted, at least a little, by the outpouring of love from so many in their time of sorrow. Also, a GoFundMe account for the family has already shot above $50,000.

A quick look at Twitter shows how the hashtag has really taken off. Messages of support are raining in, and photos and images of the little boy are reaching so many people who don't even know the family but feel a portion of their grief. Circle has encouraged everyone to snag photos of the curly-haired little boy from Saldana's Instagram feed and repost them on their own personal Facebook pages, Instagram accounts and Twitter feeds.

"Post them that the memory of him can live on," she writes. "Post them to share in the love they had for their little boy. I know we can do this. I know we can pull together. Will you grab a picture from Jacqui’s Instagram feed and post it to yours? Will you share words of encouragement and tag #RedBalloonsforRyan? Also be sure to tag Jacqui, @babyboybakery, and Dan, @danno12."

Donations to the GoFundMe account have rolled in just as rapidly as photos of a bright-eyed child named Ryan Cruz Saldana have graced many, many social media account feeds. Artists are creating in Ryan's honor, and the Saldanas are undoubtedly feeling the love of so many, even during this dark time of their lives.

It's a nightmare no parent wants to experience. But feeling love from those who know you, and even from those who don't, can create a support system that bereaved parents can really use. #RedBalloonsforRyan.

Blue is one of the few colors that you can go all-out with and not look ridiculous doing it. Blue jeans, a forever favorite, look great with any color, but especially complement a like-colored top. Easy to mix with varying shades, it is easy to pop this hue into any outfit, any day of the week. Choose a royal blue accessory or bag for an instant calming effect.

Home

blue decor

A neutral shade similar to beige and gray, blue is becoming increasingly popular in the home. Like your favorite pair of blue jeans, every color goes well with an easy blue. Add this shade in any part of your home to lessen daily stress. A trendy favorite in bedrooms and bathrooms, we recommend adding blues to your office to create a cool and calm environment. Go all-out by mixing in varying shades of the color or keep it simple with a rug, accent piece or bouquet of flowers.

Bonus

Blue bonus

Sure, blue looks great on your bod and in your house, but it can be incorporated into any aspect of your life. Paint an accent wall, decorate your desk with blue file folders, go crazy with your eye makeup, use it as your desktop background or calm yourself with a beautiful blue nail design. An easygoing color, blue can calm you wherever and whenever you need it to.

Vegan strawberry, banana & almond spring rolls with chocolate sauce

This recipe for vegan strawberry, banana and almond spring rolls with chocolate sauce is perfect for the warm-weather months. It makes a pretty presentation and would be great as dessert served at the end of an Asian-inspired meal — or any meal, for that matter.

Vegan strawberry, banana & almond spring rolls with chocolate sauce

Aside from being easy to make, this recipe is swoon worthy because of the vibrant colors and flavors of the fruit. Choose your favorite fruit to use, or follow my suggestion. Pretty much any fruit goes well with chocolate sauce, right? You could use pineapple, mango or even cantaloupe. You could also switch up the nuts, or try using your favorite granola in place of the coconut. Whatever you do, don't forget to serve the chocolate sauce with this treat.

Vegan strawberry, banana and almond spring rolls with chocolate sauce recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 3-4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon melted vegetable shortening
  • 4 large bananas, sliced in half, then cut into spears, divided
  • 8 large strawberries, stems removed, sliced thin vertically, divided
  • 5-6 kiwis, peeled and sliced into thin rounds, divided
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened shredded coconut, divided
  • 4 mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup toasted almonds, finely chopped, divided
  • 8 spring roll wrappers

Directions:

  1. Make the chocolate sauce by adding the maple syrup, cocoa powder and melted vegetable shortening to a bowl and whisking until smooth. Set it aside.
  2. Slice the fruit, and set it aside.
  3. In a small bowl, place the coconut, and in another small bowl, place the almonds. Place both bowls near the fruit.
  4. Fill a shallow bowl larger than the wrappers with warm water. One at a time, place the wrappers in the bowl of water. Swish them around slightly until the wrappers soften.
  5. Place a softened wrapper on a clean, flat work surface. Add about 1 tablespoon of the coconut to the center of the wrapper, vertically. Sprinkle a few pieces of the mint over it, followed by 4 slices of strawberry, 3 to 4 kiwi slices and a few banana spears. Top with a sprinkling of the chopped almonds.
  6. Fold the top of the wrapper down over the ingredients, the bottom of the wrapper up to meet the top, and then tightly fold each side in toward the middle. The wrapper should be moist enough that it sticks together. Place it seam side down on a plate.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all the wrappers are used.
  8. Serve 2 spring rolls per person, with the chocolate sauce on the side to drizzle over the top.

Roll with it, and serve this spring roll dessert.

Vegan Swiss chard bean burritos with avocado dressing

When was the last time you were captivated by a burrito? This recipe for vegan Swiss chard bean burritos with avocado dressing is fun to make and serve and a treat to eat.

Vegan Swiss chard bean burritos with avocado dressing

Why are these burritos so special? Because I swapped out the tortillas for Swiss chard leaves.

Vegan Swiss chard bean burritos with avocado dressing

The Swiss chard leaves are sturdy enough to stand up to the bean mixture (at the market, look for Swiss chard with large leaves). In addition, I made a creamy avocado dressing for added flavor.

Vegan Swiss chard bean burritos with avocado dressing

These burritos are on the small side, and one large Swiss chard leaf will yield three to four burritos, perfect for one serving.

Vegan Swiss chard bean burritos with avocado dressing recipe

Serves 6

Ingredients:

For the dressing

  • 1 avocado, peeled and pit removed
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/8 cup chopped onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

For the filling

  • 1 bunch Swiss chard (use 6-8 leaves for this recipe)
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (16 ounce) can garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, seeds and membrane removed, diced small

Directions:

For the dressing

  1. Add the avocado, onion, garlic, orange juice, salt and pepper to a food processor, and blend until smooth.

For the filling

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together the black beans, chickpeas and red pepper.
  2. Pour about half the dressing over the top, and toss to combine.
  3. Rinse off the Swiss chard leaves, pat them dry, and cut off and discard the bottom portions of the stems.
  4. Lay the leaves flat, and carefully cut the leafy parts away vertically from both sides of the stems. Chop the stems, and use them for another recipe.
  5. Depending on how large your leaves are, cut them horizontally into thirds or quarters.
  6. Place 1 to 2 heaping tablespoons of the bean mixture onto the Swiss chard leaves toward one end, and wrap them up as tightly as you can.
  7. Place them seam side down on a plate. Serve with extra dressing to drizzle over them.

Roll a batch of these burritos.

Ranch chicken and bacon wraps

This Sunday dinner recipe for ranch chicken and bacon wraps offers classic flavors rolled up into a handheld main dish. Serve these sandwiches with a side of veggie sticks or a fruit salad to help turn it into a meal.

Sunday dinner: Ranch chicken and bacon wraps

I grilled my chicken and then shredded it for this recipe, but you could also use a rotisserie chicken or give double duty to last night's chicken breast leftovers. This is an easy dish to make when you're looking for a casual, kicked-back meal.

Ranch chicken and bacon wraps recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 3 (4 ounce) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, grilled and shredded
  • 6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 2 tomatoes, seeds removed, diced
  • 1 cucumber, partially peeled, cut vertically, seeds removed and diced
  • 1/3 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/8 cup buttermilk
  • 4 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 ounces lettuce, torn into small pieces, divided
  • 4 (10 inch) tortillas or sandwich wraps

Directions:

  1. To a medium bowl, add the shredded chicken, bacon, tomatoes and cucumber. Toss to mix.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the ranch dressing and buttermilk.
  3. Pour the ranch mixture over the chicken mixture. Add the shredded cheese and black pepper, and toss to mix.
  4. Lay the tortillas or sandwich wraps on a flat work surface. For each wrap, spread about 1 ounce of the lettuce down the center of the wrap, from the top edge to the bottom.
  5. Add about 1/4 cup of the chicken mixture over the lettuce.
  6. Fold the right side of the wrap to just over the ingredients, and continue to roll the wrap tightly.
  7. Slice the wrap in half with a serrated knife, place seam side down, and serve immediately.

Kick back for Sunday dinner.

Chocolate chip cheesecake balls

I can't even begin to understand people who aren't cheesecake fans. What's not to love? Creamy, sugary cream cheese and cake — it doesn't get much better than that! Making it, however, is a different story. Springform pans, cracks down the middle, overflow in the oven... Who needs that kind of hassle?

Chocolate chip cheesecake balls

These no-bake chocolate chip cheesecake balls are the answer — all the creamy goodness of the cake in a bite-size no-bake portion. They keep really well in the freezer too, so you can pop one when you're in a pinch for a sweet treat.

No-bake chocolate chip cheesecake ball recipe

Yields 15

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 ounce vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • Chocolate cookies, crushed for rolling (optional)

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients except for the chocolate chips and crushed cookies. Beat with an electric hand mixer until well incorporated.
  2. Fold in the chocolate chips, and freeze the batter for at least 1 hour.
  3. In a small bowl, place the crushed cookies.
  4. Using your hands, roll the batter into balls of about 1 tablespoon in size, and then coat them in the crushed cookies. Place the balls on a plate, and keep them refrigerated until you're ready to serve them.

Angelina Jolie has a "no secrets" policy with her brood of six kids. Whether it's cancer or sex, the Pitt-Jolie couple tells their kids everything. Brad Pitt told USA Today, "We tell the kids, 'Mom and Dad are going off to kiss.' They go, 'Eww, gross!' But we demand it."

It probably goes without saying that most people may not relate to the parenting advice of a woman who has 19 kids. Michelle Duggar upset mothers everywhere when she admitted to using "blanket training," which involves putting a baby on a blanket and if they move off of it, the parent spanks the baby's leg, says no and repeats until the baby does not leave the blanket.

Courtney Love's best parenting tip is being a living example of how not to parent. Love's daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, filed a restraining order against her mother in 2009. Among Cobain's grievances were her mother's hoarding (which killed a family pet), her pill-popping tendencies and her tireless conspiracy theories.

Mommy Paltrow interrupted the InStyle interview when little Apple became "cross" with her mother because Paltrow only lets her kids watch cartoons in Spanish and French. That shouldn't breed any long-term resentment.

It looks like there's trouble in paradise in the Knowles-Carter camp. Shocking video of Solange attacking Jay Z in an elevator during their trip to the 2014 Met Gala has hit the blogosphere, and it isn't pretty.

In the elevator footage, which was obtained by TMZ, Jay Z, Beyoncé, Solange and a security guard enter an elevator during their trip to last week's Met Ball. Little sister Solange appears quite angry as she turns to the hip-hop heavyweight. At first, the altercation just appears to be verbal until Solange goes berserk and starts to kick and punch Jay Z until the security guard grabs hold of her. It even looks like she spits on him at one point. Shortly afterwards, Solange tries to kick him but Jay Z keeps his cool and doesn't retaliate.

#WhatJayZSaidToSolange: 5 Possible reasons Solange beat up Jay Z >>

What's equally as shocking is that Beyoncé remains at the sideline of the fight and doesn't really get involved, which leads us to believe that Jay Z must have done something big to really upset the R&B singer. However, maybe she just didn't want to get involved in a fight between her husband and sister. Since there's no audio attached the video, running speculation is going around about what the fight was about. At time of press, camps for the stars have not released comments.

Additional video of the stars leaving the Met Ball surfaced, and it's quite clear that Solange and her jaw-dropping dress weren't too happy. While she and big sister Bey get into one car, security actually escorts the rapper to a different vehicle. Yikes!

Mexican style stuffed french toast

On the weekends I like to splurge on breakfast, whether it be the all-American classic of eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns or pancakes with bacon. A good breakfast can make or break your day, and I like to start it off right. Tacos are another favorite of mine for breakfast. You can never have too much Mexican food in a day. For this dish I decided to combine Mexican flavors with the classic French toast recipe. Voilà… Mexican stuffed French toast topped with Cotija cheese. After this meal, my day is definitely headed in the right direction.

Mexican-style stuffed French toast sandwich recipe

  • 6 tablespoons shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices wheat bread

Directions:

  1. Cook the potatoes according to the package instructions, and then set them aside.
  2. While the potatoes are cooking, in a small sauté pan, add the chorizo, and cook it for 10 minutes on low-medium heat. Add the potatoes to the chorizo, and stir until well combined.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk and Cotija cheese.
  4. To a skillet over medium heat, add the butter.
  5. Dip 2 slices of bread into the egg-and-milk mixture, and then place them into the buttered skillet.

Famous celebrities flocked to help celebrate George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin's engagement at a big bash in Malibu this Sunday night.

The engaged couple appeared happy and snuggly with each other, an eyewitness claimed, saying that "George seemed sweet with his fiancée." The insider added that the lovebirds kissed once, "and [Clooney] had his arm around [Amal] the majority of the time. They looked happy."

It's pretty sweet and there were quite a few moments that even had us teary or at the very least whimpering over Eminem's remorse and his rough life. Sure, we've seen it all in 8 Mile, but this song makes it seem a million times more sad. He even gets an assist from fun.'s Nate Ruess on the chorus and drops his name in the song like he's his long-lost brother. We approve. These moments are particularly hard to swallow:

1) Nate Ruess' opening lines.

2) "Mom, you're still beautiful to me 'cause you're my mom."

4) "Why are we always at each other's throats? Especially when Dad, he f***ed us both. We're in the same f***in' boat, you'd think that would make us close. (Nope.)"

5) "And I was the man of the house, the oldest, so my shoulders carried the weight of the load."

6) "Then Nate got taken away by the state at 8 years old and that's when I realized that you were sick and it wasn't fixable or changeable."

7) "And to this day we remain estranged and I hate it, though."

8) "'Cause you ain't even get to witness your grandbaby's growth."

9) "And I'm sorry, Mama, for 'Cleanin' Out My Closet.' At the time I was angry. Rightfully? Maybe so. Never meant that far to take it, though."

10) "And I think of Nathan being placed in a home and all the medicine you fed us and I just wanted you to taste your own."

11) "That cross you bear, few may be as heavy as yours, but I love you Debbie Mathers."

12) "One thing I never asked was where the f*** my deadbeat dad was. I guess he had trouble keeping up with every address. But, I've flipped every mattress, every rock and desert cactus... and followed my kids to the edge of the atlas. Someone would've removed them from you, you can bet your a**es, if I'd had to come down the chimney dressed as Santa, I'd kidnap 'em."

13) The hug outside the gate of Eminem's fancy new neighborhood.

14) "I saw your headlines as I looked back and I'm mad that I didn't get the chance to thank you for being my mom and my dad."

15) "I hope you get this message that I will always love you from afar."

16) The letter signed, "Marshall (Your Son)."

Finally! We found the real culprit for why nail polish chips

Chipped nails

Photo credit: Mary Ann Lacy Bridant Moment Open/Getty Images

We caught up with celebrity manicurist Lisa Jachno of Labnails to discuss why so many women deal with terrible, chipped manicures. "Working with your hands a lot will definitely chip your nails," she said. "But if the manicure isn't done properly, this will cause rapid chipping as well."

Manicures: You're doing it wrong

Think back to your most recent visit to the salon. Most manicurists start the process by soaking fingernails in sudsy water before shaping the nails and applying color. Unfortunately, soaking the nails at the beginning of the manicure can actually contribute to rapid chipping. "Wet manicures cause chipping because the nail absorbs water and expands," Jachno explained. "Your nail polish will lose its bond with the nail if the nail shrinks back to its normal size after the polish is applied." Serious bummer, since this can translate into a gnarly, chipped manicure within just a few days.

The miracle of dry manicures

Cut the water from your manicure routine to get longer-lasting color. "You should be able to get five to seven more days out of a dry manicure," reported Jachno. Not only that, you'll shave at least 10 minutes from your routine if you do it yourself.

So what's the trick? Jachno provided us with these steps for a successful dry manicure:

  1. Whatever you do, don't soak.
  2. Remove polish. Because, duh.
  3. File your nails into your favorite shape. Keep 'em short to prevent chipping caused by run-ins with walls or computer keyboards.
  4. Apply cuticle remover. Let it sit for one minute to soften the skin, just like a water soak.
  5. Exfoliate. Jachno recommends The Buffy brush to delicately remove overgrown cuticles.
  6. Wipe away. Use an alcohol spray to make sure sloughed nails and cuticles are clean and prepped for color.
  7. Apply polish. You know the routine — base, color and topcoat for optimal coverage.
  8. Keep it fresh. Jachno suggests that your reapply top coat every two or three days to make sure your dry manicure lasts a full week.
Now, use your knowledge for good and quit raining little chunks of chipped nail polish all over planet Earth.

Orange is the new Black Season 2 - Laura Prepon interview

Photo credit: Ali Goldstein for Netflix

Orange is the New Black Season 2 is going to be released on Netflix on June 6, and fans everywhere are going to be ready with popcorn and their favorite beverage to binge-watch it as soon as it appears in their queue.

SheKnows spoke exclusively with Laura Prepon, who plays Alex on the hit series, about what fans can expect for Season 2, as well as her thoughts on the character and what it's been like being a part of a show that became a hit in an entirely new kind of TV format.

In the first part of our interview, Prepon shot down rumors about Tom Cruise. There was another rumor she had to shoot down as well, regarding whether or not her character would be appearing in the second season, which some fans doubted originally.

"I was always going to be back in Season 2," Prepon reassured. "It's so funny how many rumors are flying around. But it's really flattering though that people keep wanting to know what's happening with my character."

Prepon wasn't able to give a lot of information about Season 2, but she did give out a few teasers. "What I can say is that you'll learn a lot about the other women [in the prison], too. It's pretty cool."

One word that's been bandied about in regard to the second season is "darker." When asked if she would agree with that assessment, Prepon said: "I definitely think so. The first season, you know, it was dark at times, but there was a lot of levity in it. This show always walks that awesome line of comedy and drama. Like Red's nemesis on the show, her character definitely makes things more intense [in Season 2]."

When OITNB first premiered, it was in an entirely new type of TV format and could have either flopped or become a huge hit. Luckily, the latter happened.

"When we were filming, we all knew we were part of a special thing, and you can only hope that people get drawn to it," Prepon said about those early days after Season 1 premiered. "And it's so flattering and amazing, and it's just an incredible acknowledgement to us being the actresses on the show. It just means so much to us because we pour our hearts and soul into these performances. And when people gravitate to it and then love it, it's the best acknowledgement you can get. It's really incredible."

It's a go! OITNB picked up for Season 3 >>

Prepon and the rest of the cast understood that they were pioneers and appreciated the risk Netflix took with the series.

"This show is definitely a risk and the fact that Netflix took a gamble on it and believe in [creator Jenji Kohan]'s vision — to be a part of something like that, aside from the fact that we're like pioneers in a new frontier. Because this whole binge-watching, Netflix type of thing is new. And now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon, but when we first went onto the show, all of us were like, 'Straight to streaming on Netflix, what's that about?'"

One thing that binge-watching has changed, according to creator Kohan, has been the way a TV series is written. "[Kohan said] what's weird now is, [now] that everyone watches them all in a row now, it changes the writing. When people watch a show like this, [Kohan said], 'I can take more time with each character because I know that all the other characters — you'll see them again in an hour and a half or two hours''" Prepon revealed, adding, "When you have a show that's on week to week, you have to give everyone a story. You usually have to give every actor something to do. So it's kind of an interesting viewpoint shift for writers with the whole streaming thing."

When asked what first drew her to the role of Alex, Prepon gushed about her character. "Alex is a total bad*** and I absolutely love her," Prepon declared. "It's one of my favorite roles I've ever played. She's such a bad*** and so cool, but she's also really vulnerable and totally in love with this woman. But she's also power-hungry. She's like the coolest chick ever."

Orange Is the New Black Season 2: Expect "dance parties, pie-throwing and urination" >>

Prepon admitted that Alex did scare her a bit, but it was something that made her want the part more. "She scares me a little bit," Prepon admitted. "Because we definitely all of us as actors get pushed out of our comfort zone, which is amazing because that's how you grow as an actor. And Alex did scare me a little bit, I'm not gonna lie, but it's also why I knew I had to play her."

Will you be binge-watching Orange is the New Black Season 2 when it premieres on Netflix June 6?

Kathy and Rick Hilton have lived in this Los Angeles home for five years. The house, which Kathy decorated herself, took three and a half years to build. The elaborate dining room is where the family often hosts theme dinners. Its vast glass table was designed by Kathy and is topped with crystal tableware that the Hiltons have collected over the years. A crystal chandelier adds a nice touch to the room, but the claw machine, which serves as a piece of contemporary art, is the main attraction. The family room is where the Hiltons spend most of their time, but the living room is where they celebrate special occasions. A portrait of Michael Jackson sits above the fireplace in this chic but cozy sitting area. Kathy's design studio sits on the property and is just a short walk away. She keeps many of the dresses she designs here and also creates some of her most elegant pieces here. The Hiltons' home is altogether a work of art.

A gay man's perspective: How a bearded lady won Eurovision

Drag artist Conchita Wurstoutside the RTE studios for The Saturday Night Show.

Conchita Wurst, the onstage drag persona of Austrian singer Thomas Neuwirth, took top honors in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest with a power ballad titled "Rise Like A Phoenix." With 290 points, it was one of the most popular acts in the contest's history. In under five minutes, Conchita Wurst became the most famous Austrian musician since Mozart.

Conquering the obstacles

Her win is a resounding victory for the LGBTQ community. The pseudo-lesbian Russian duo t.A.T.u, who exploded in the U.S. with their smash single "All The Thing She Said," were chosen 10 years ago to represent their country in 2003's Eurovision Song Contest. The politics and controversy surrounding their performance completely overshadowed their vocal efforts. To this day, Russia's attitudes toward gender, sexuality and identity politics are remarkably conservative; both Russia and Ukraine requested that Wurst's entry be blocked. A Russian lawmaker was moved by the spectacle to describe Eurovision as a "pan-European gay pride parade."

While discussing her win, Wurst said, "For me a dream came true, but for our society, it shows there are people out there that want to go on and not step back into the past. I'm so thankful. I think we said something tonight. It's not just a victory for Austria, it's a victory for love and tolerance."

Despite the vast success of "Rise Like A Phoenix," Wurst will most likely be remembered in the history books for what she represents rather than the performance that secured her victory.

Tears of joy

"I cried because I am so happy and beyond thankful," she explained. "I said to myself, 'Just this one time let me be the one with the gold.' I don't know who I have to thank but… I'm speechless."

Conchita Wurst is a welcome reminder that women can, and quite often do, kick a**. Every day we hear detailed story lines about thwarted productive rights, victim blaming, lower wages and legitimate rapes. All the while, the incredibly buoyant drag community reminds us that there's an entire herd of men out there who are so dedicated to women, they even choose to dress like them.

3 Ways head hunters offer job seekers an edge

Call
my agent

When an employer has an open position, it often turns to staffing companies to fill it. These companies handle posting the position, looking through the résumés and the hiring. What does all this mean? It means that you need to know about staffing companies and how they can work for you — because you may end up working for them.

Allison O’Kelly, CEO of Mom Corps and Mom Corps YOU, explains that staffing companies are becoming less transactional and more like long-term "agents" for job seekers because of the more fluid nature of job transitions today. She shares three tips for identifying the right staffing company for you and ways to maximize your partnership.

Timing is everything

It isn’t necessary to be job hunting in order to contact a staffing company. Great recruiters are always looking for great candidates, whether they are actively looking for a job or not. By familiarizing them with your credentials and preferred work environment, they may be able to identify an opportunity that you would never hear about. Make a connection with a particular recruiter and touch base periodically — but not too often — about any new skills or areas of expertise they can make note of.

Make a match

Find a staffing partner that has specific expertise that aligns with your unique needs. Is flexibility and finding alternative ways to work of utmost importance? Perhaps deep industry knowledge of your field is required to give you the guidance you seek. Or maybe an agency that specializes in placing certain levels of professionals is right for you. Depending on where you are in your career, identify your most important and pressing needs and wants for a job and seek out a staffing company that has the expertise.

Build a relationship

Leverage the relationship to its fullest. Many staffing companies will offer resources to professionals that include webinars and speakers series, informational articles and blogs, tips and updates through social media, etc. Take advantage of all that is out there, and engage with the staffing company on a meaningful level — this means through conversation and not just with your hand out. See what you can offer in return. Do you have experience that candidates might find useful? If so, offer to write a guest blog or participate in a panel discussion on the topic.

#WhatJayZSaidToSolange: 5 Possible reasons Solange beat up Jay Z

Solange

1. Those Illuminati rumors really are true

Solange, it seems, is a spiritual person. Her record label is called Saint Records, she referred to herself as "Sol-Angel" in an album title and she even has a song called "God Given Name." So maybe those rumors swirling around the internet about Jay Z being the modern-day godfather of the Illuminati are true, and Beyoncé's little sis finally confronted Hov about selling his soul (and, presumably, the souls of Bey and little Blue Ivy) to Satan for fame and fortune.

2. There may have been a comparison to Orlando Jones tossed out

Solange, Orlando JonesPhoto credits: FayesVision/WENN (L); Brian To/WENN (R)

Solange has spent the better part of her career avoiding comparisons to her sister, adamantly explaining at every chance possible that she is a unique individual and an artist in her own right. So we doubt she'd find it funny if Jay Z made a joke comparing her to anyone at all, much less to actor Orlando Jones, who — let's face it — she really does favor.

3. He broke out a copy of Bring It On: All or Nothing

Solange, Bring it On: All or Nothing

Solange has accomplished many thing for which she can be rightly proudly of. But nobody with her level of success seems to get there without a few mortifying moments along the way (unless you're part of the Illuminati, apparently). Solange has put out some amazing music, has killed it on the fashion front and has raised one heck of an adorable kid in son Jules. But we're going to guess she'd prefer nobody — not even Hov himself — bring up her 2006 straight-to-video role in Bring It On: All or Nothing.

VIDEO: Jay Z now has 100 problems: Solange attacks >>

4. Jay Z asked if she borrowed her dress from Jane Fonda in Monster-in-Law

Monster in law

Nearly as inexplicable as the altercation itself was Solange's choice of dress for the event. The frumpy peach number she was wearing was clearly suited quite well for activities like ninja-kicking her sister's husband, but it was ill-fitting in every other sense. It totally made us think of the frilly peach monstrosity Jennifer Lopez's characters makes her mother-in-law, played by Jane Fonda, wear to her wedding as punishment. Perhaps that's secretly one of Jay Z's favorite flicks, too.

5. She caught Jay Z stepping out on Bey

All jokes aside, this sadly seems most plausible. What girl wouldn't try to kick her sister's husband's balls into his throat if she found out he'd been running around? We know we would. It's never been a secret that Solange is a feisty little thing, so we can't imagine she would ever take news of Jay Z's infidelity lightly. The fact that Beyoncé rode off with Solange and Jay Z had to take a separate car only gives this theory more credibility.
