An Insider Claims Matt Lauer Is Headed for a Very Expensive Divorce

The fallout from claims about Matt Lauer’s alleged inappropriate sexual behavior could cost the former Today host big-time — both personally and fiscally. Per People, an inside source says Lauer and his estranged wife, Annette Roque, are headed for a divorce after two decades of marriage. And since the longtime news anchor is estimated to be worth in excess of $100 million, he stands to lose a lot.

More: NBC's Investigation Into Matt Lauer Turns Up Troubling Results

NBC let Lauer go last November in the wake of disturbing allegations of repeated sexual misconduct on and around the Today set. After weathering a few months of new information coming to the surface, Roque reportedly kicked her husband out of their home. Or homes, rather — rumors first cited trouble at the couple’s Hamptons retreat.

Now, People’s inside source insists that divorce is imminent. It wouldn’t be the first time Roque filed, though. In 2006, she did so citing “cruel and inhumane” behavior. She withdrew it mere weeks later only to reportedly seek out a divorce lawyer again in 2014.

However, this split will be the one that sticks according to the insider. “The damage in this marriage can’t be fixed,” they claim.

It remains to be seen how their assets will be divvied up in the event the beleaguered pair does decide to go their separate ways once and for all. In addition to Lauer’s earnings from his time with NBC, the husband and wife also own several luxury homes: the aforementioned Hamptons mansion estimated at almost $40 million, a Sag Harbor home on the market for nearly $13 million and a New York City townhouse being listed for just over $7 million.

Since New York is a no-fault state, Roque wouldn’t stand to gain more if Lauer came clean about cheating or any other allegations. However, New York-based divorce attorney Bernard Post underscored to People that he’d advise Roque to go for as much as possible.

“Certainly if I were [Annette’s] lawyer I would be looking at getting something close to 50 percent,” Post told People of the couple’s estate.

A New Debate About Friends' Ross & Monica Is Dividing the Internet

Cue our best Chandler Bing voice: could Friends be any more iconic? In the latest example of the show’s continued cultural relevance, writer and comedian Emily Heller started a fan war over one of the beloved series' main characters — more than a decade after its last episode.

More: 10 Things We Miss About Friends

If you need to a quick reminder, Friends aired on NBC from 1994 to 2004 and was one of the best sitcoms ever created. Please do not try to argue this particular point. You will lose (or at least we won’t listen to you.)

So if fans are all in agreement there, what’s the hitch? Enter Heller, who tweeted a simple yet provocative theory on Sunday.

Friends Theory 1

Friends Theory 1

“Just realized they HAD to make Monica & Ross brother and sister otherwise all the F.R.I.E.N.D.S would have stuck with Carol in the divorce,” Heller wrote. And, well, that was enough to send superfans into a frenzy. In Friends-speak, "the one where Heller racked up over 40,000 likes and 7,000 retweets."

Some fans agreed wholeheartedly, treating Heller’s theory as the gospel truth.

Many pointed out the logistical issues with Heller’s statement — as in why would Ross’ friends pledge their loyalty to his ex?

Friends Theory 10

Friends Theory 10

As for Heller, once she realized the nostalgic divide of apocalyptic proportion she'd created, she attempted to clarify her original comment. "Truly meant this not as a Ross burn but a Carol compliment," she explained, albeit after the internet lay in ruins.

Friends Theory 11

Friends Theory 11

If we were to unpack the theory, we'd probably have to admit Heller's theory does have some merit. Yes, we understand that some of the characters — namely Chandler and Joey — met Monica through Ross. However, if we're really rolling with this alternate universe theory, that could still stand. Monica and Ross would be friends who introduce each other to each other's friends, right? In that world, Carol may have enjoyed a more meaningful arc on the show and endeared herself to more fans.

More: Reminder — Ross Ruined Every Friends Thanksgiving, & Here's How

However, this would only work if Carol became Monica's best friend in that universe. Then, we could see Heller's theory playing out.

Why would Ross' friends side with Monica (and by proxy Carol)? Aside from the fact Monica was arguably the best character, let us count the ways. Joey would probably stick around just for the grub. Could he actually survive without Monica feeding him? Debatable. Chandler would have fallen in love with Monica either way.

The ladies aren't as cut-and-dried, though. Phoebe never really cuts anyone out of her life (exhibit A: her horrible twin sister, Ursula). And Rachel, well, we'd have to edit out several seasons worth of episodes if her relationship with Ross never transpired.

So even though Heller makes an intriguing point, it doesn't stand for one simple reason: Friends wouldn't be Friends without the inimitable Ross Geller, for better or worse.

Chris Harrison Gives a Big Tease About Becca's Bachelorette Suitors

Chris Harrison knows something you don't know about the upcoming season of The Bachelorette — but he's willing to share it with you. At least, he's ready to talk about what the dudes of Becca Kufrin's Bachelorette season were like whilst filming was going on. With the filming officially wrapped and the season premiere arriving on ABC on May 28, we need a little something to tide us over so Harrison's intel couldn't come at a better time.

More: Is Becca's Bachelorette Promo the Best Yet?

While chatting with Entertainment Tonight earlier this week, Harrison offered up the following fun teases about the Bachelorette boys. "It's such a great season. [Kufrin's] a great bachelorette, the guys are great, the drama's there, the tears, the ridiculous arguments. It's good, it's really good."

Wait, there's going to be drama? Ridiculous arguments? Tears? I mean, it's one thing to hope for Kufrin to find her happily ever after (and we hope that happens!), but knowing that the drama is going to be there makes this season all the more tantalizing. Sure, previous seasons have seen their fair share of alpha males vying for the top spot in their respective Bachelorette's heart. But the stakes somehow feel higher with Kufrin involved — maybe it's because fans are really hoping she comes out of this season unscathed, unlike the last time she was on a Bachelor Nation show.

But Harrison didn't stop there with his hinting. With the first major fight of the season already teased and subsequently confirmed by the Bachelorette host, Harrison elaborated on how the drama surrounding Kufrin's suitors will be different from previous batches of suitors.

"[This season may have] the most ridiculous fight you've ever seen in the history of our show, which is saying a lot… It's just magnificent to watch. It's going to be one of those [seasons where] you're watching through your fingers because you're embarrassed for everybody involved but you can't stop watching," he told ET.

Of course, the limo entrances will set the tone for all of the crazy shenanigans that are going down this season, as they often do. But this new information from Harrison has us wondering if Kufrin's season might actually be one of the all-time great seasons in Bachelor Nation history. Between Kufrin's baggage and these so-called hot-headed dudes hoping to win her over, you might need to set aside time in your schedule to watch every week; you won't want to miss this.

Book Club Is Our Favorite Movie This Spring

Book Club has a simple enough premise: Four women over 60 share friendship and wine as part of a reading club. But when one character brings the seriously sexy book Fifty Shades of Grey into the club, the women begin to reexamine their sexuality, asking questions about where they currently stand on love, romance and hot sex. In the time of #MeToo, it's a joy to see women on-screen exploring their sexuality at a stage in their lives when women are typically discounted by society and sometimes by themselves.

What adds authenticity and excitement to this story is the amazing cast of women who no doubt relate to all these issues surrounding sexuality, feminism and aging. At 80, Jane Fonda leads the pack with a lifetime of experience and lovers. Mary Steenburgen brings her own Southern femininity to this quartet of gals as she questions her traditional values. Candice Bergen is tough and intellectual, as if the actor and character of Murphy Brown are forever intertwined. Then there's Diane Keaton, the beauty who's managed to continue her acting career with romantic comedies into her 70s. Though the characters in Book Club are invented, it's easy to see how much resonates with the actors in their honest, sometimes uncomfortable, often hilarious portrayals of these women who are just like us, our mothers and our grandmothers.

More: Jane Fonda Talks Sex (or Lack Thereof) at 80 Years Old

Jane Fonda in Book Club

While we've all read Fifty Shades of Grey, for some ridiculous reason, it's a little embarrassing to think about our mothers reading it (and getting excited by it). Trying to picture mom and pop in a red room... OK, we won't. When the writers of Book Club, Erin Simms and Bill Holderman, pitched their idea to producers, they were told they would never get the rights to use Fifty Shades in the movie. Simms and Holderman sent their script to author E. L. James, and guess what? She absolutely loved it. But why wouldn't she? Both Book Club and Fifty Shades are celebrations of female sexuality.

More: Jane Fonda Started Her 80th Birthday Celebrations Early

Though the four women in the movie are inspired and titillated by Fifty Shades, none of them reenact any of the BSDM shenanigans. There's no spanking, flogging or handcuffs in the movie — just women curious about whether they are still sexual creatures.

Book Club

As many of us get older, it's easy to feel less relevant, less sexy and less engaged in the world considering youth culture dominates everything in the media. Book Club, along with a few other film gems like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Quartet and Victoria & Abdul, portray women over 60 as independent, curious and confident given that they've had decades of life experience. Sex is just one part of their lives, which they may choose to engage in or not. Ultimately, the most important thing — as Jane Fonda's character finds out in the film — is that they give and receive love. After all, even Christian Grey, as tortured a soul as he is, falls in love. That's the power of Christian and Anastasia's story. If it were just about racy, edgy sex, it wouldn't have had the cultural impact it did.

Book Club

The other thing Book Club gets right is showing the power of friendship. As we get older, most women come to rely on our female friends as much, if not more, than the men in our lives. While female relationships can be competitive in nature when we're young, that seems to go away as we age, leaving just the true bonds of friendship to flower. The four women in the film support each other with a deep love and understanding that's rarely possible for women in their 20s or 30s. Life experience seems to take friendship to a much deeper level, and that's a very comforting thing.

While it's unlikely Book Club will win any big awards or break the box office, it's sure to give many women of all ages an emotional boost, a reason to laugh and to look forward to getting older. Go see it.

No word on the little boy's name yet, but let's hope his parents opted not to go with Teigen's clever idea to name him Urban Legend. Maybe they'll let big sis Luna Simone Stephens choose the name? In our experience, toddlers naming babies is always a win. That's how babies get named things like Yellow and Watermelon.

Teigen, who has always been candid about her infertility and conception struggles, announced her pregnancy in a November Instagram post. She got a little help from Luna, who responded "Baby!" when Teigen pointed at her stomach and said “Luna, what’s in here?”

"[I]t's john's!" Teigen captioned the post just in case anyone had any doubts. (We didn't.)

Teigen is the ultimate multitasker. In addition to being the coolest mom on the playground, she hosts Lip Sync Battle, writes cookbooks and has the ultimate honor of being blocked by Donald Trump on Twitter. In fact, she's already stoked to welcome baby No. 3. (Yep, you read that correctly.) In March Teigen said that she wants to have babies "back to back," so we may be blessed with yet another adorable Teigen-Legend baby sooner rather than later.

Calming Foods for Hyperactive Kids (Yes, Really)

At some point, we’ve all sat back and admired a kid’s bouncing-off-the-walls energy. We've probably also watched tantrums unfold, perhaps with wonder at a child’s ability to just lay it all out there. A little hyperactivity and the occasional meltdown are normal in children, of course; that’s part of childhood as kids navigate how to experience and express their emotions. But if you’re concerned that your kid is having too many ups and downs — or too many cranky or anxiety-ridden moments — their diet could be the culprit.

Your little one could be experiencing a micronutrient deficiency or a sensitivity to certain food additives or they may be reacting to blood sugar fluctuations. It might sound crazy, but some simple nutritional changes could be the solution to finding and maintaining a bit more calm.

We’ve consulted the experts — and the science behind diet and how it relates to children’s behavior — for the answers. Ahead, you'll learn how to fill your kid’s plate with nutrient-rich foods that have a calming effect, how to minimize the additives that could be causing a reaction and how to maintain blood sugar levels to combat extreme highs and lows.

More: The Healthiest Fall Foods for Babies, Toddlers & Beyond

It's certainly worth investigating your child's diet before you jump to medications (and their side effects), urges Jennifer Giustra-Kozek, a licensed psychotherapist who treats patients with ADHD, depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder and Asperger’s. Giustra-Kozek is also the parent of a child who has ADHD, and she prefers to take a holistic approach as both a mom and a clinician.

“There are numerous scientific studies that demonstrate the link between ADHD, anxiety, depression, sleep issues and autism and nutritional deficiencies, food intolerances and the exposure to food additives and processed food ingredients like petroleum-based food dyes and environmental chemicals,” Giustra-Kozek explains.

That’s not to say that your kid necessarily has a behavioral or mental health condition. Any child can simply experience some high-strung moments. Here’s how nutritional changes can keep your kid on a more even keel.

Micromanage the micronutrients

The foods we eat are made up of macronutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber and water) and micronutrients, also known as vitamins and minerals. We all need a proper mix and amount of these macronutrients and micronutrients to function, and if we aren’t getting them, we might not feel or even act our best. The same goes for kids.

“Because they are still developing, deficiencies in these nutrients can have a very noticeable impact,” says Emily Cerda, a Maryland-based board-certified nutrition specialist and licensed dietitian specializing in child health.

Research shows that children with ADHD are often deficient in iron, magnesium, vitamin D and zinc, for example. According to the book Neurobiological Issues in Autism, there's been some success with treatment of vitamin B6 and magnesium in cases of autism.

Get much-needed calming fuel

Here's a list of some of those key micronutrients and where to find them.

Iron: Spinach, Swiss chard, romaine lettuce, broccoli, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, pumpkin seeds, grass-fed beef, shrimp

Magnesium: Almonds, black beans, non-GMO tofu or edamame, Swiss chard, spinach, green beans, celery, pumpkin seeds, broccoli, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds

Niacin: Poultry, salmon, collard greens, carrots, broccoli, spinach, shrimp, cabbage, carrots, tuna, mushrooms

Thiamine: Oats, beans, grass-fed beef, oranges, romaine lettuce, asparagus, spinach, sunflower seeds, broccoli, cabbage, carrots

Vitamin D: Shrimp, sardines, eggs, organic low-fat dairy

Vitamin B6: Spinach, bell peppers, garlic, cauliflower, bananas, broccoli, kale, carrots, cabbage, beans, nuts, fish, poultry, eggs

Zinc: Chickpeas, pumpkin seeds, poultry, grass-fed beef

Talk to your kid’s doc before giving them supplements

Keep in mind that children with autoimmune diseases, intestinal issues and other conditions may have malabsorption, which prevents their bodies from absorbing certain essential micronutrients. Some kids may require vitamin and mineral supplements.

“Parents should consult a professional before starting any supplements to ensure the child does actually have a nutrient need to determine a safe product and to receive proper dosing and safety instructions,” Cerda says. “It’s important to realize that certain drugs and supplements can interact and that many supplements can be dangerous for children at improper dosages.”

More: How to Make Your Home Safe — & Healthy — for Kids

Pitch out processed foods

All the items on the calming foods list our experts helped compile have one thing in common: They are whole foods. That means fruits and vegetables, not processed snacks that are often devoid of nutrients and full of artificial ingredients. Research published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that a healthy, nutrient-rich diet is associated with better emotional health in kids, and eating an unhealthy diet is associated with emotional distress.

“Processed food is full of synthetic compounds that do not play nicely with the natural chemistry of our bodies,” Cerda says. “In general, the standard American diet is pro-inflammatory, and inflammation is the last thing a child’s body needs to fight when in the midst of important growth and development.”

We often reach for processed foods because they’re convenient. They’re packaged and easy to toss in a bag, require little to no prep, and kids like some of the fun shapes and colors. But small changes over time can help us fit whole foods more easily into our lifestyle. And those mini modifications add up to bigger changes in the long run that can benefit the whole family.

Tonya Harris — who is board-certified in holistic nutrition, an environmental toxicity expert and the mother of a child with ADHD — recommends cutting up fruits and veggies so they are easy to grab and go. If your children are old enough to snag snacks on their own, keep healthy foods at eye level. These could include fruits and vegetables, prepackaged natural peanut butter portions for dipping, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt and berries and organic cheese sticks.

Avoid additives

Nixing processed foods whenever possible will also help you eliminate potentially harmful preservatives and artificial colorings. Researchers have linked sodium benzoate, a common preservative that gives foods a longer shelf life, to increased hyperactivity in kids. And while more studies need to be done on this topic, a growing body of research, including one study published in the journal Neurotherapeutics, shows a link between artificial food colorings and ADHD. (Artificial food colorings don’t actually cause ADHD, but they may contribute to symptoms.)

“Some colorings, such as turmeric, red beets, beta carotene and saffron are more natural colorings that haven’t been found to lead to hyperactive effects,” Harris says. She recommends avoiding sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate and ingredients that list colors followed by a number, like Red No. 40 or Yellow No. 5.

Be mindful of potential allergies or sensitivities

Some children are allergic to certain additives, colorings or even specific foods like dairy, milk, eggs or nuts. That could be why your child is having more frequent meltdowns or being hyperactive. “Food allergies or delayed food sensitivities can also trigger inflammation that will lead to focus, mood or behavioral issues in children,” Cerda says. “Young children can’t express how they feel very well. And poor behavior is often a sign of not feeling well.”

If you suspect your child has a food allergy, talk to their doctor. A pediatrician may order an allergy skin test or blood test or prescribe a customized elimination diet to determine a sensitivity.

The truth about sugar

Your child could also be sensitive to fluctuations in blood sugar. “Because sugar is a quick source of fuel for the body, it is fast-tracked into the bloodstream,” Cerda explains. “This can cause rapid shifts in blood sugar and behavior changes in children.”

Research has been inconclusive as to whether sugar truly increases hyperactivity in children, but a Yale University School of Medicine study has shown that kids have a more intense response to changes in blood sugar than adults do.

In the Yale study, a group of healthy kids was given a large amount of sugar on an empty stomach. A group of young adults was given a similar sugar dose (adjusted for body size). Within hours after eating the sugar, the kids’ bodies released large amounts of adrenaline in response to a blood sugar drop, or what we might call a sugar crash. Adrenaline can cause excitement, anxiety, loss of focus and shakiness. And many of the children in the study reported these symptoms. The study also showed a more significant blood sugar drop in the kids than in the adults. And when the drop occurred, the children’s adrenaline levels rose twice as high as the adults’. The kids also reported a more significant reaction to the adrenaline than did the adults. Ultimately, what all of this suggests is that kids have a stronger reaction to blood sugar crashes than we do.

“Maintaining blood sugar levels is an important factor in helping kids with focus, mood and behavior,” Cerda says. “Most adults have experienced that ‘hangry’ feeling where these three things fall to the wayside in lieu of eating food now. Children have a higher metabolism than adults and can burn through their food much quicker.” Cerda suggest keeping kids on a regular eating routine, focusing on whole foods and sticking to a low-glycemic diet as much as possible.

Eating a low-glycemic diet means consuming carbs that are low on the glycemic index. The glycemic index is a measure of how fast a carbohydrate raises our blood sugar. Low-GI foods cause blood sugar to rise slower than high-GI foods. If your child eats low-GI foods, they’ll experience a gradual release in energy. Research out of the department of psychology at the University of Swansea in Wales associates that slower release with better cognitive performance in children. Plus, with a slower spike in blood sugar, a child will be less likely to experience a plummet that could lead to any crash-y-type behavior — like having a full-scale meltdown mid-grocery shop.

Your child doesn’t have to skip sweet eats altogether. You can minimize sugar highs and lows by pairing sweeter items with protein, fiber or fat to slow digestion. “Take berries, dates, or other fruit and top the treat with nut or seed butter, whole fat coconut milk or yogurt,” Cerda suggests. “If it’s a special occasion, make sure a well-balanced meal is consumed before you break out the birthday cake.”

The takeaway

Science tells us that diet does affect children’s hormones and mood, so if you’re concerned about hyperactivity, over-the-top tantrums, anxiety or any other behavior, take a look at your kid’s go-to meals. Try to add more foods from the calming foods list, eliminate processed snacks as much as possible, avoid artificial preservatives and colorings, and manage blood sugar levels by following a low-glycemic diet and pairing sweeter items with slower-digesting foods. Don’t aim for perfection. We all have busy lives. Small changes can have big impacts on reducing excitability and irritability.

Also, never hesitate to talk to your doctor about your concerns in case there’s something more at play — like an allergy or deficiency related to malabsorption. A little troubleshooting could go a long way in helping your child have a calmer time.

Ahead of the Grey's Anatomy Season 14 finale, we're all preparing to say goodbye to Arizona Robbins — and to actor Jessica Capshaw, who breathed life into this fan-favorite character for the last decade. Over the last week, Capshaw's Instagram has played host to "10 days of memories for 10 years of Grey's," giving fans of the show a behind-the-scenes look at her time on the show. As you might expect, it's so bittersweet but so, so perfect.

Maybe the best part of Capshaw's series was what she chose to share on the day before the Season 14 finale: the hilarious Season 11 gag reel. Grey's costars Justin Chambers, Caterina Scorsone, Geena Davis and Ellen Pompeo all make appearances in the video, which spans just a few seconds but had us laughing out loud. Hours later, she shared another gag reel from Season 13 that had us absolutely rolling with laughter.

Arizona Robbins is kind, intelligent, funny, insightful, bold, playful, fierce and really good at her job. She was one of the first members of the LGBTQ community to be represented in a series regular role on network television. Her impact on the world is permanent and forever. Forever. I am grateful that I have gotten to bring her to life and for the life that she has brought to me. I am sad to see her go but I am consoled by the idea that she will continue to live on and on in all of our consciences and our imaginations. Shonda, thank you for the ride on this incredible rollercoaster. With a heart full of love, Jessica".

6 Healthy Benefits of Coffee — From Endurance to Anticancer Benefits

$

It seems like there's a new study popping up every day about coffee, caffeine and the effects they have on your body. Do you have to give up your beloved drink? Without morning coffee, will there be anything left to live for?

As a fellow coffee addict, I'm here as the bearer of good news.

Coffee is not bad for you and has plenty of health benefits. Right now, I can almost hear the 150 million daily coffee drinkers in the U.S. breathing a collective sigh of relief (while keeping one nervous eye on the drip brewer as it churns up the second pot of the day). I get it — some skepticism is normal when you are first told that you are allowed to truly enjoy something you love.

There has to be a catch, right?

Wrong. While there are coffee studies that swing both ways, we have taken the time to separate the bad from the good (fueled only by black coffee and baby carrots) to provide you with the absolute truth about your coffee addiction. Let me be clear — the amount of coffee you choose to drink each day is a personal decision you should run by your doctor. But there's plenty of research that supports moderate coffee drinking falling somewhere within the gray area of a "health beverage."

Here's the solid proof you've been looking for to justify your coffee habit.

More: Is My Coffee Habit Throwing Off My Hormones?

1. Increases nutrient intake

While Dr. Swapan Banerjee, family medicine doctor in Seabrook, Texas, isn't so quick to jump on the "my coffee is magic" campaign, he concedes that there are pros and cons to drinking America's favorite morning beverage. For starters, coffee contains beneficial antioxidants, Banerjee says. He adds that there are also a number of essential nutrients in coffee: 11 percent of the recommended daily allowance for riboflavin, 6 percent of the RDA for pantothenic acid, 3 percent of the RDA for manganese and potassium and 2 percent of the RDA for magnesium and niacin.

"Coffee is rich in riboflavin," confirms registered dietitian Natalie Rizzo. "Riboflavin, otherwise known as vitamin B2, is one of the essential B vitamins. It's not found in many foods, but it's abundant in coffee. Riboflavin helps break down nutrients in the body and a deficiency can lead to painful, peeling skin and lips."

2. Improves endurance

It's not just your imagination — drinking a cup of joe before a workout does give you the strength of 10,000 women. Coffee helps improve endurance in athletes by fighting commonplace exercise fatigue, says certified personal trainer Joshua Duvauchelle. According to Duvauchelle, it's the caffeine that can help you go the extra mile. He tells SheKnows, "While some gym enthusiasts turn to commercially prepared stimulant supplements before exercising, coffee offers many of the same benefits, but cheaper!"

Rizzo adds, "Make sure you indulge in that cup of coffee at least two hours prior to exercise to avoid digestion issues." And, run this by your doctor before making it a habit. Everyone's body is different.

3. Jumpstarts weight loss

I promise we'll get to the legitimate health benefits in a minute, but first, there are a few frivolous "perks" to drinking your morning cuppa — one of which is coffee's well-known ability to keep you trim. When asked what coffee can do for your waistline, Banerjee is quick to point to the science: More than two decades ago, Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism researchers discovered that caffeine in coffee can help you burn fat by boosting metabolism.

More: 11 Things to Add to Your Coffee That Are Not Coffee Creamer

4. May protect against Alzheimer's disease

Drinking your daily coffee not only keeps you sharp for that morning meeting, but it could provide brain-boosting benefits for the future. Rizzo says one of the biggest health benefits of drinking coffee is its potential to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease, a modern epidemic without a cure. "The antioxidants in coffee may prevent some brain cell damage associated with the disease," she explains.

5. May protect against diabetes

If you fall into the high-risk category for Type 2 diabetes — meaning that you are one of the 84 million Americans over the age of 18 with prediabetes — this may come as welcome news. Coffee can't cure Type 2 diabetes, but Banerjee reminds us of compelling research that points to its protective benefits. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2008 confirmed that regular coffee drinking (with potential benefits from black tea, but not green tea) has been associated with a lower risk of Type 2 diabetes.

6. May protect against liver cancer

Clearly, coffee has more health benefits than you can count on two hands — like its ability to reduce risk of stroke, reduce risk of depression in women and provide support for heart arrhythmia, cirrhosis of the liver, asthma attacks, gallstones and even Parkinson's disease.

But, here's a big one you're not likely to forget: Duvauchelle says drinking coffee can help to reduce the risk of liver cancer by up to 50 percent. Many of coffee's anti-cancer benefits can be traced back, again, to its higher-than-average antioxidant content.

More: 5 Healthy Reasons to Drink Coffee Every Day

How much coffee can you drink?

We can all agree that coffee is amazing and at least a little good for you. But, unfortunately, there's still no research that supports a caffeinated free-for-all. What's more, every person responds differently to coffee. A morning jolt for you might be a nightcap for someone else. The recommended daily amount falls somewhere in between too little and too much — EU's Food Safety Authority estimates that 400 milligrams of caffeine, or roughly four cups of coffee, is a perfectly safe amount of caffeine for a healthy adult. A life-threatening dose of caffeine has been estimated between 10,000 and 14,000 milligrams according to the Food and Drug Administration. Each coffee health study may be based on a different daily amount.

So, listen to your body, talk to your doctor, read the research and safety recommendations, and make a decision you are comfortable with. And when all else fails, remember the motto that will serve you well in almost all areas of life: Everything in moderation.

Meghan Markle's family is having a tough week. Just three days before her highly anticipated royal wedding, Markle's half-sister, Samantha Markle, was admitted to the hospital with leg injuries following a paparazzi incident in Florida that resulted in an automobile accident. According to TMZ, Samantha's boyfriend, Mark (TMZ did not report on his surname), says he was forced to swerve after a photographer cut him off near a tollbooth. Their vehicle then hit a concrete barrier.

Mark told TMZ that during the accident, Samantha hit the windshield and then landed on the floor of the vehicle. He also said that Samantha, who is wheelchair-bound and has multiple sclerosis, was unable to lift herself up. According to his statement, he claims Samantha's foot was twisted backward. As of Wednesday afternoon, TMZ reported that emergency room doctors were treating Samantha for her injuries.

Hours before Samantha was admitted to the ER for her injuries, her father, Thomas Markle, successfully emerged from open-heart surgery after suffering a heart attack, per E! News. The most recent report from E! News notes that despite the successful surgery, Meghan confirmed that Thomas will not be attending the royal wedding because of his health-related issues.

Since Meghan and her fiancé, Prince Harry, announced their engagement in November 2017, media focus on her family has steadily increased. Samantha has been vocal in her criticism of Meghan, going so far as to write a book originally titled Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister. She and her brother, Thomas Markle Jr., were not invited to the royal wedding although the specific reason was never confirmed.

Millions of People Have This Common Bladder Condition & Don't Even Know It

A common bladder pain syndrome, though often misdiagnosed or ignored, is interstitial cystitis or IC for short. According to the Interstitial Cystitis Association, close to 12 million people suffer from IC, with the gender ratio breaking down to about 8 million women and 4 million men. Doctors typically medicate their patients with pain relievers as a quick cure, resulting in an onslaught of addiction and the persistence of IC — which cannot be cured.

HelloFlo talked to Robert J. Evans, doctor of urology at Wake Forest University, who said that the "glycosaminoglycan layer in the bladder protects the underlying layers of the bladder from irritating substances such as potassium, which can cause pain. When this layer has poorly functional acid, potassium can leak into the interstitial layer, where it causes degranulation of histamine-releasing cells." He explains that "the histamine release activates sensory nerves and these nerves carry a painful stimulus to the spinal cord and brain causing painful urination."

More: 3 Tips for Managing an Irritable Bladder

Pain can also vary in degree. Urinating may just feel like a small sting or it can be serious burning. Evans says, "In essence, the bladder reacts like it is allergic to the urine itself and releases histamine."

Symptoms are difficult to detect, can range in terms of pain and can often be misdiagnosed as an infection. Many patients are unaware of the disease because of the wide range of diseases the symptoms can cover.

Think you have IC or would like to see a specialist about the pain? Here are a few questions to ask yourself before making an appointment:

  • Have you had urinary pain that has lasted longer than six weeks?
  • Have you made sure you don't have a kidney stone or any other infection?
  • Do you have pain or pressure below your belly button?
  • Do you have urgent bathroom trips, sometimes 40 to 60 times a day?
  • Do you have painful intercourse?
  • Do you tend to suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, migraines or chronic fatigue syndrome as well?

Simple treatments include diet, stress reduction and other help therapies like yoga, exercise and pilates. More immediate treatments are hydroxyzine, amitriptyline and Tagamet, with Botox injections and surgery also being options. One of the biggest hazards presented with a misdiagnosis of IC is the possibility of prescription drug addiction for those who are given large doses of painkillers to cope with the pain temporarily.

According to Mercola, "More than 70 million prescriptions for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are written each year, and according to 2010 data, there were enough narcotic painkillers being prescribed in the U.S. to medicate every single adult, around the clock, for a month."

More: What's Your "Peehavior"? It's Time We Discuss Bladder Health Openly

How is IC being addressed for the future? The Multidisciplinary Approach to Pelvic Pain Project is a project based at Wake Forest University. Their efforts are trying to better understand the disease through research and to openly discuss the symptoms as a means for finding a cure or better means to coping.

Ketchup Ice Cream Is Now a Thing, & We Can Blame Ed Sheeran

Ketchup is a mainstay condiment. We use it on burgers and hot dogs, we dip our fries in it, and for many of us, it’s our main technique for giving scrambled eggs some flavor. Nobody’s questioning the validity of ketchup in our lives, right? We’re definitely fans.

But have you ever thought about drizzling it across the top of your vanilla ice cream? How about making a ketchup-flavored ice cream? Because an Irish ice cream shop has done just that: turned Heinz ketchup into a new ice cream flavor.

ketchup ice cream

It’s actually not the first time somebody’s added ketchup to ice cream. A company in the Philippines gained popularity in 2016 for creating a ketchup-mayo ice cream, which plenty of social media reviewers said they enjoyed. We didn't personally fly to the Philippines, so we'll just have to take their word for it.

More: Froot Loops Are Now a New Flavor & Shape

But this latest flavor was created by a shop called Gelati, located in Co. Sligo, Ireland. They were inspired to create the ice cream by Ed Sheeran, who is so in love with Heinz Ketchup that he got a bottle tattooed on his bicep. The singer is set to play three shows in Dublin, and the ice cream shop wanted to offer him something special.

“We @gelati_icecream decided to welcome Ed Sheeran back to Ireland by creating his favourite flavour : Tomato ketchup!!” they wrote on Instagram. They also offered concert attendees a free ketchup cone if they stopped by.

No word yet on whether Sheeran has had a chance to try the flavor he inspired, but so far, the owner has been happy with customer response. "The initial reaction people have before tasting the flavor isn't good but after they taste it there is definitely a positive reaction. It's a bit like spicy ice-cream," he told Independent.ie.

So, ketchup ice cream — would you try it?

Are you flying through Heathrow airport on Saturday? Because you might be in for a royal treat.

Even if you haven’t been invited to the royal wedding (we didn’t get an invite either), Heathrow Airport is celebrating the occasion by serving 1,000 handmade lemon and elderflower cupcakes (the same flavor of the royal wedding cake) to inbound passengers who arrive at the airport between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. local time.

Be sure to pack a fancy hat, because passengers can also expect to see Queen’s Guard, Beefeaters (the nickname for the guards at the Tower of London) and patriotic flags and banners as well as the sounds of a royal trumpeter. The airport will also be broadcasting the ceremony in all of their terminals, so you don’t have to wrangle a Wi-Fi connection on your phone to watch the special event. Basically, the airport is forming their own personal wedding party, even if the bride and groom will be miles away.

Celebrating the royal wedding isn’t just an act of national pride, it’s also a celebration of tourism. Heathrow reports that in the week leading up to the wedding, they’re expecting 9 percent more arrivals from North America and more than 3 percent total growth over last year.

“The royal wedding has driven an increase in international visitors who wish to experience a uniquely joyful British event,” Garton said.

Joyful indeed. Here’s to the happy couple!

Miranda Lambert's Possible New Beau, Evan Felker, Officially Files for Divorce

Apparently, ghosting is still very much a thing in 2018 — even for married couples. Us Weekly reports that Turnpike Troubadours singer Evan Felker filed a scheduling order to end his two-year marriage with wife Staci Felker on Tuesday, citing fears that she would "unduly delay" a divorce. Basically, the Felkers are going to court, and Us says Staci was surprised by the move.

More: Miranda Lambert’s Love Life May Have Just Gotten More Complicated

Sources who spoke to Us Weekly in a different report disagree on whether the Felkers had marital problems before the Turnpike Troubadours went on tour with Miranda Lambert in February, when Evan and Lambert allegedly began a relationship despite his marriage and her then-boyfriend Anderson East.

The report that Evan officially filed for divorce seems to contradict an earlier report from Us that Staci filed for divorce a month after Evan went on tour with Lambert. Regardless of who took the initial step, this is a certainly an interesting turn of events in what has been an intriguing story to follow. Is this a sign that Evan and Lambert will confirm the allegations of their relationship? Or is this Evan simply ending his marriage on his own terms?

Whatever his reasons, after the scheduling order was filed on Tuesday, Staci took to Instagram with a rather tongue-in-cheek response to the controversy. She posted the cover of a book titled Well I Was Clearly More Into That Than You Were: A Love Story and captioned it with "#mood," a strong-arm emoji and a winky face.

Reese Witherspoon Is Here for Pink's Clapback at a Twitter Troll — & We Are Too

Is anyone else exhausted by how often random people feel the need to attack female celebrities on social media? Pink certainly is. Reese Witherspoon seconds that. And you know what? We're absolutely tired of it too. So it was pretty darn refreshing to see the aforementioned amazing celebs take on negative Twitter comments floating around in the Twittersphere earlier this week with such grace that they honestly deserve an award.

More: Why Pink Staged a "Sit-In" at Her Daughter's School

On Wednesday, Pink clapped back at a Twitter troll who tried to make a joke about her looks and her colorful stage name. Needless to say, it didn't go very well for them. When 102.7 KIIS-FM shared a video of Pink reacting to a 12-year-old fan's rendition of her song "Perfect" during the Vancouver stop on the performer's Beautiful Trauma Tour, one Twitter troll replied, "Wow, Pink looks so old that should be named purple instead".

Pink's response to the somewhat confusing but mostly insulting tweet was pretty perfect, though.

"You must be from L.A.," she wrote. "Well, there are a few people left in the world that choose to age naturally. And I've earned every fucking minute of my 38 years." We know that's true — Pink has always been open about her life experiences, especially in her music.

"How [are] you lookin' though?" she continued, flipping the script on the troll. "Cause I never heard of ya 'til you put my name in your mouth. I shall call you 'little purple troll.'"

In a follow-up tweet, Pink said, "I am of the mindset that it's a blessing to grow old. That if your face has lines around your eyes and mouth it means you've laughed a lot. I pray I look older in 10 years, cause that will mean I'm alive." She ended the tweet with a hang-ten hand emoji, adding a sense of finality to the tweet and the conversation.

Soon after Pink took down that troll with ease, Reese Witherspoon jumped in to support the singer wholeheartedly. She tweeted an especially poignant response, adding to the conversation, "We are supposed to grow old and [heart] our faces and our bodies that carry us through this life. Gotta have Gratitude for every minute on this Earth."

Meanwhile, Pink's mentions filled up with fans and celebrities tweeting their support for her takedown of the ageist comment. One fan wrote, "Can't wait to see you when you're 80. And if you're still doing aerial stunts, all the better."

Pink quote-tweeted the reply and said, "You know I will! I’ll call it the 'wrinkles and rolls tour.'"

Here's Why (& How) I Masturbate Every Day

$

In honor of May, which is National Masturbation Month, I thought it would be a good time to discuss my daily masturbation habit. I’m not afraid to admit I masturbate or talk about what turns me on sexually, whether it’s porn, sex toys or dirty talk. It’s perfectly normal to engage in all-about-me time as often — or as little — as you’d like. The most important thing is that you’re taking time to prioritize your pleasure. Above all, it feels pretty damn good.

When I first became sexually active, I quickly realized that the only person responsible for my pleasure was me. Sure, I enjoyed partner participation and communicating what did and didn’t feel good, but the onus of my orgasm fell on me. Knowing I could give myself such pleasure without the risk of STIs, pregnancy or pressure from another person was a powerful tool.

How I do it

Everyone does things a little differently down there. I tend to start with slow, intentional touch. Sometimes I’ll turn to my mental queue of hot sex fantasies; usually, I’ll watch porn. (I’m a very visual person.) Tumblr is great for targeted keyword searches (mmm, slow finger fucking!).

Porn can be a controversial topic, but there are a handful of kick-ass women making ethically produced porn at the moment. Among my favs are Bree Mills of Girlsway (100 percent girl-on-girl-only pornography), Erika Lust of XConfessions (she turns crowdsourced fantasies into erotic films), Tristan Taormino and Joanna Angel.

MoreWe've Done the Research, & These Are the Best Porn Sites for Women

It’s not uncommon for me to bring toys into the mix. My top three go-to toys for solo sex are the Womanizer, the Satisfyer Pro 2 and Fin.

Why I do it

No matter how I wander down my path of pleasure, it makes me feel all sorts of warm and fuzzy feelings. I’m by no means a medical professional, but I believe regular orgasms do wonders for my health and well-being.

More: Masturbation Comes With Some Serious Health Benefits

Here are a few of the positive effects I get from getting off:

Releases sexual tension. I have partner sex — regularly. But I also have a high sex drive and always want more. Masturbation allows me to release any pent-up sexual tension I may have. It makes me feel powerful to be able to harness that energy into a positive release — on my own terms.

Reduces anxiety. I’ve suffered from anxiety issues in the past. Doctors have prescribed Valium and Xanax, but nothing has calmed me down faster than getting horizontal and getting off.

Helps with insomnia. I used to be a serious insomniac. If I logged six hours of sleep at night, I was lucky. If I can bring myself to orgasm before my head hits the pillow, I can count on eight solid hours of z's. Go figure.

Helps with menstrual cramps. I tend to have horrendous menstrual cramps. I also get super-horny during that time of the month. I find if I masturbate during my cycle, it’s a much less painful experience all around. I don't know if it’s the release of muscle tension or a total redirect of pain, but it’s a win-win scenario that helps.

Tightens pubococcygeal muscles. I may be 45 years old, but every single penis-haver who has had sex with me comments on my tight vagina. Sure, I use Kegel balls and take Pilates (where the mantra is: strong core, strong pelvic floor), but I credit my super-grippy inner muscles to my frequent vaginal contractions and release of the pubococcygeal muscles.

And if you don't have a regular hands-on habit, there can be a learning curve. Embrace your curiosities and explore. If masturbation isn't your thing, that's a-OK too. When it comes to sex, you should never ever do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable (or unsafe for that matter). Self-love is not just for so-called bad girls. Everyone deserves a happy ending — whatever that looks like to you.

What's Really Lurking in Hotel Pools According to the CDC

$

Swimming and other water-based aerobics are hands-down my favorite types of exercise, so when I'm staying in a hotel with a pool, I get especially excited. While there's little to no chance I'll throw a pair of sneakers in my suitcase to workout in a hotel gym, I'm more than happy to shove a swimsuit in and get up a little earlier to squeeze a few laps in (before helping myself to the breakfast buffet). So healthy, right?

Well, a new report from the Centers for Disease Control suggests otherwise. Yes, swimming (and exercise in general) is still definitely good for you, but the water in hotel pools might be another story. Turns out, between 2000 and 2014, there were 493 outbreaks associated with treated recreational water, which caused at least 27,219 cases and eight deaths according to the report.

More: The Best Water Workouts You Should Try This Summer

By "recreation water," the CDC means places like pools, hot tubs/spas and interactive water play venues (i.e., those water playgrounds popping up all over the suburbs and in some city parks), and the outbreaks in that water are caused by pathogens or chemicals.

Hotels were the main culprits for these outbreaks, serving as a setting for 157 (32 percent) of the 493 outbreaks. Unsurprisingly, there were more outbreaks during June, July and August than the rest of the year.

So, what's actually causing these outbreaks? That would be what the CDC terms a "diarrhea incident." This happens when someone has diarrhea in a water venue and then others ingest it and get sick.

MoreThe Unexpected Health Benefits of Saunas

But isn't that what chlorine is in the water for? Hypothetically, yes, but the parasite associated with a diarrhea incident is extremely tolerant to chlorine and can survive in water for more than seven days, causing outbreaks that could potentially sicken thousands and spread to other pools, hot tubs, splash parks, etc. If someone who is sick with this pathogen (because they have swallowed contaminated pool water), then has a diarrhea incident of their own (perhaps in another pool), the cycle continues.

The CDC's main takeaway for the public is “[d]on’t swim or let your kids swim if sick with diarrhea.” We'd follow that one up with "never swallow pool or hot tub water." So this summer, please remember that water safety means more than wearing the proper flotation device.

Zoe Saldana Explains Why She's Raising Her Kids in a Gender-Neutral Household

Gender stereotypes are all around us, no matter how much we try to erase them. But just because we can't stop brands from bombarding their kids sections with pink and blue items doesn't mean we can't make our homes more inclusive spaces — which is just what actor Zoe Saldana and her husband, Marco Perego Saldana (yes, he took her last name), aim to do.

Zoe Saldana, who recently made waves in Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War as green-hued Gamora, explained to Women's Health why it's so important that her three sons — Zen, Cy and Bowie — regard her and her husband as equals.

More: How to Talk to Kids About Gender Identity

"That 'Mom's the boss' thing is not going to happen in our family, because that means he's the fun one, the good guy, while I'm the disciplinarian," she said. "I don't want my kids to look at women like, 'Oh, god, they're so annoying! They always come with structure.'"

Zoe Saldana Kids

Zoe Saldana Kids

She makes an excellent point. For decades, film and TV (sitcoms, we're looking at you) have often portrayed moms as stricter and more overbearing than dads. You know the TV trope: Mom shuttles the kids around, makes sure dinner is on the table and generally ensures that the house is still in order (and still standing); meanwhile Dad strolls through the door at the end of the day, throws the kids a $20 bill and asks his wife why she looks so serious. Sorry, but no laugh track can make that scenario funny for people who live that reality every day.

That doesn't seem to be an issue for Saldana, however, who says she feels supported and loved by her husband, especially when it comes to their parenting journey.

"I have the most perfect partner in my life," she told Women's Health. "I've never met a male like my husband, who [believes] any woman is naturally his equal."

More: What Exactly Is Gender-Neutral Parenting?

Saldana is the latest celebrity to embrace a gender-neutral approach to parenting. Pink has also supported what she calls a "label-less" environment in which her kids, Willow and Jameson, can feel free to be themselves and explore their identities.

"I was in a school and the bathroom outside the kindergarten said, 'Gender Neutral — anybody,' and it was a drawing of many different shapes. I took a picture of it and I wrote, 'Progress.'" she told Entertainment Tonight. "I thought that was awesome. I love that kids are having this conversation."

We couldn't agree more.

Adoption Was My First Choice, but I Was Rejected — & Pregnancy Is My Last Hope

$

0

My wife and always knew we wanted to adopt; neither one of us felt especially keen to get pregnant, but we were ready to start our family. Recent figures from charity Adoption U.K. suggest there are over 3,000 children in care waiting to be fostered or adopted here in the U.K., and we were ready to become the loving mothers one of those kids deserved. But little did we know that in a system crying out for adoptive parents, we would still be turned away — for not quite measuring up to the rigorous health and financial bars set by the adoption services.

My wife and I had done the preliminary reading, knowing just how lucky we were that the laws here in Britain had already changed to become fully inclusive when it comes to same-sex couples adopting. That makes it one of only 14 countries in the world where that’s the case. This is not something we take for granted, as even with recent gains in LGBTQ rights globally, there’s always the possibility that these hard-won rights could be rescinded or overturned.

More:  Not Your Mom's Adoption: What the Process Looks Like in 2018

Adoption made perfect sense for us: a more or less equal division of parenting from the start, no one doing more, physically, than the other (i.e., breastfeeding, recovering from childbirth) and hopefully preventing any inequality over baby bonding and the like.

We knew there would be hoops to jump through. Everyone we spoke to who’d been through the process warned us to start counting in months and years, not weeks. The basics are right there on every helpful website: How prospective adoptive parents will be assessed, what sorts of questions will be asked and what evidence of your life you’ll have to prepare.

I felt my first pangs of concern then — in response to blithe statements about how applicants who’d suffered from mental health issues would not "necessarily" be excluded. The financial requirements were seemingly flexible too, and nowhere did I read or hear that home ownership or fixed income were required to pass muster.

But in the end, it wasn't any one barrier that prevented us from becoming adoptive parents. According to our local council adoption authority, my wife and I were too variable of income, too previously prone to depression and apparently not quite slender enough for the marathon sport of raising young children. In a scoring system, we were just short in too many categories.

This felt massively unfair, especially given the fact that so much of the (straight, cisgender) human race seems perfectly permitted to pop out babies without much in the way of quality control.

More: Trump Isn't the Only One Ignoring Birth Mothers in the Adoption Process

This led me into a long spell of feeling doomed — doomed never to start a family. After all, if we couldn’t be parents to children who needed us most, whom we would choose to love and shelter and protect, how could any other method of family building measure up?

But when rational thought returned, slowly taking the place of tears and quiet tantrums, I realized that I had to choose. My choice, now, was between trying to change myself (my career, my weight, my past even?) in hopes of eventually measuring up the adoption standards — and investing that time, energy and money into ways of starting a family that I had previously discounted. After all, my wife's and my supposed shortcomings weren’t anything that precluded us from being parents; we just didn't meet the rigorous standards required of adoptive parents, in this country at least.

So we began investigating donor insemination — and debating which us felt best prepared to carry a baby. For most lesbian couples, this is the start of the process, with adoption and fostering being a far-off safety net they might never need to use. But here we were, starting out again, knowing we had no safety net at all.

Luckily, we found our doctor and the local fertility clinic more than helpful. We settled on my wife being the one to carry, and we worked through some squeamishness and legitimate fears about pregnancy. And here we are in the fertility trenches, armed with ovulation trackers and basal thermometers.

It's already been a few cycles down the line, and I’m trying not to get twitchy. Of course, there’s still IVF as an option after this if we need it. We can also import sperm from Denmark and try at home when the free treatment from our country's free national health care service is all used up.

I’m hopeful that some day soon, maybe just an ovulation cycle or two from now, we’ll see the pregnant symbol and that all this worrying and feeling unworthy will evaporate with the happy news. I tell myself that we’re no more selfish than any other couple who opts to conceive naturally rather than adopting — that time is finite, and we’re not getting any younger. As our nieces and nephews keep appearing, as friends keep having kids of their own, we’re eager to join the party — not least of all because we'd love our eventual child to grow up around all these kids.

But every time I see a headline about the increasing number of children being taken into care or a sign on the side of a bus advertising how adoption is "easier than you think," the pang of guilt — of failure — is still there.

Maybe, a few years from now and with a young child and life more settled, we’ll be able to apply again and succeed. I’m sure we’ve got love enough for that.

Sandra Bullock's Idea of a Rejuvenating Facial Isn't for Everyone

Oversharing can lead a conversation to some very strange places, like it did when Sandra Bullock sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday morning. While there to promote her latest film, Ocean's 8, Bullock opened up about her skin care routine, her kids, her favorite on-screen kiss. We always appreciate her honesty, and she definitely didn't hold back in this interview — but Bullock's secret to getting such beautiful, glowing skin might not be for everyone. Her honesty even led DeGeneres to ask at one point, "Who comes up with this?"

What made DeGeneres ask such a thing? Well, keep reading, and you'll see soon enough.

While chatting about her skin care routine, Bullock definitely tried to play coy about her preferred facial — something she said she introduced to her Ocean's 8 costars who she thought would appreciate it. Her explanation provides a lot of detail, almost too much detail for some.

Sandra Bullock on Ellen

Sandra Bullock on Ellen

"It's this way in which one forces, through micro needling... it pushes through the skin and ruptures the collagen and boosts it," Bullock explained of the procedure. "You look like a burn victim for a day, but then it pushes the serum..."

"What are you pushing into the skin, Sandra?" DeGeneres interrupted.

Bullock replied, "It is an extraction from a, um, a piece of skin that came from a young person, um, far, far away."

DeGeneres had no such reservations. "It's foreskin from a Korean baby," she said. "That's what it is."

"It's not like I'm lying there with little pieces all over my face," Bullock said.

That may be true but still... uh, no thanks. We're gonna have to pass on that treatment.

This may not be for everyone, but Bullock said she thinks anyone who tries the treatment will absolutely want to repeat it. "Well, I call it the penis facial and I think when you see how good it is for your face you too will run to your local facialist and say, 'Give me the penis,'" she said. "That's what's going to happen."

Would you go for this facial? For us, this is still a hard no even though Bullock makes a compelling case.

People magazine reported on Tuesday that Markle was once again speaking to the press about his plans to attend (just a day after we all thought he wasn't) and how he didn't want his recent heart attack to keep him from participating in one of the most historic, important days of his and his daughter's lives.

"I hate the idea of missing one of the greatest moments in history and walking my daughter down the aisle,” he reportedly said. "Of course I’d walk her down the aisle. This is a historic moment. I’d like to be a part of history."

This statement comes hours after Meghan apparently tried to get in touch with her father once news of his heart attack and plans to stay in the United States emerged. Thomas also claims Meghan expressed to him, once they finally did touch base over text message, that she wasn't upset about the staged paparazzi photos that he apologized for taking — the implication being she wanted to make up before her wedding day.

It's still unclear whether Thomas will actually fly to the United Kingdom to attend the wedding and walk his daughter down the aisle, because, per TMZ, he was admitted to the hospital once again on Monday evening with chest pains. TMZ's report indicates doctors aren't giving him the all clear despite his repeated attempts to get permission to check out.

For now, his desire to be there on Meghan's wedding day is just that: a simple desire. We'll have to wait and see if he'll actually make it to the wedding on Saturday.

Original story, published May 14, 2018, 3:10 p.m. PT: It's been touch-and-go where Meghan Markle's relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, is concerned. But even with the various highs and lows they've gone through (especially in recent months as she's planned her wedding), it was believed that the two could come together on May 19 for Markle's wedding to Prince Harry. Now, just six days before Markle says I do, news has emerged that Thomas will be unable to attend the wedding.

The reason, according to Hollywood Life, is quite grave: Thomas checked himself into the hospital on May 8 after suffering a heart attack. Hollywood Life also notes that he now thankfully OK and has checked out. But it appears he's going to stay home, rest and recuperate rather than tempt fate at perhaps the most high-profile event of 2018.

People magazine reported on a statement issued by Markle and her fiancé, Prince Harry, in the wake of the news about Thomas: "This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding. She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation."

A report from TMZ announcing Thomas' heart attack implies there might be another reason he's not going: to prevent further tension or embarrassment for Markle. This could be due to the fact that it came out only recently that the paparazzi photos that were taken of Thomas were actually staged. Thomas told TMZ that he was tired of being portrayed negatively by the paparazzi (previous photos show him looking very casual while out and about, sometimes disheveled) and wanted to rehab his image. He was apparently approached by a paparazzi outlet and offered an undisclosed sum of money to stage the photos. Thomas has since apologized for his actions, telling TMZ they looked "stupid and hammy."

Just a day after the truth emerged about the photos, Markle's half-sister, Samantha Markle, took responsibility for the photos. "The bad press over my father… is my fault. The media was unfairly making him look bad so I suggested he do positive photos for his benefit and the benefit of the royal family," she wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

According to Us Weekly, Meghan Markle had opinions about the staged photos. As a source told the outlet, "Meghan is upset and disturbed by the entire ordeal and just wants to move past it. She doesn’t want to let anything ruin her day and is trying to keep focus on the [royal wedding] weekend."

Markle and her father have a bit of a fraught personal history, but it seemed that would have been laid to the side in an attempt to celebrate this happy occasion. Thomas was even supposed to fly to London this week to meet members of the royal family in private, and he would have helped Markle from the car and walked her to the chapel; that will no longer be happening. Additionally, a private meeting may happen at a later date, but that's unconfirmed.

Regardless of this recent drama, we hope Thomas gets well soon. Missing your daughter's wedding, regardless of the drama, is no good at all.
