Sandra Bullock Admits Her Kids Sometimes ‘Want to Kill Each Other’

When it comes to sibling rivalry, not even celebrity kids are immune. Earlier this week, actor Sandra Bullock admitted on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that her two children, Laila and Louis Bullock, have a sweet-and-sour relationship.

"There are moments when they want to kill each other," she said, adding that her daughter, 5, is the one who would likely draw first blood.

"But I like that about her," Bullock said. "I like that she'll take a knife and cut a guy."

Bullock also joked that little Laila, who was backstage watching the show and eating chips, would also be the one most likely to "steal the car" and get into trouble when she's older. For now, she's not stressing too much about the hypothetical what-ifs and is enjoying her kids' differences.

"[They're] very different, but in the best way," she said. "He could use some of what she's got, and she could use some of what he has. They balance each other really sweetly."

This isn't the first time Bullock has talked openly about her kids' distinctive personalities. In a recent interview with InStyle magazine, she quipped, "Lou is super sensitive... wise and kind" and acts sometimes like a 78-year-old man, while her daughter is "unafraid" and "a fighter."

It's easy to see where Laila gets her tenacity from too. Bullock has never been afraid to speak her mind and defend what matters most to her, like her validity as a parent. And although Bullock's children are adopted, she's made it clear — to InStyle and all of us — that she is still their mother.

"Let's all just refer to these kids as 'our kids,'" she said. "Don't say, 'my adopted child.' No one calls their kid 'IVF child' or their 'Oh, I went to a bar and got knocked up child.' Let's just say 'our children.'"

Word. These kids are in good hands.

Red Flags to Watch Out for in a New Relationship

When a relationship ends badly, many will search for answers and painstakingly dig for a reason it happened. But after the tears have been cried and we can really look back at that failed relationship with a clear head, it’s easier to understand that the red flags were probably there all along but were either ignored or justified, which never leads to anything good. So, if you are noticing any of these sometimes subtle yet important red flags in your relationship, it may be time to get out now.

More: Why You Shouldn't Try to Make Your Partner Happy

They "love bomb" you

In other words, they’re rushing you into a relationship.  “That's a red flag,” says Karen Salmansohn, a life coach and author of Prince Harming Syndrome. “Often, people who rush you into a relationship are not fueled by sheer almighty desire for you, but fueled by their need to control you and not give you time or mental space to think clearly.” They go from being a jackpot partner to a jackass partner very quickly. “You [have] got to get to know who someone is so you don’t fall in love with the idea of them, but the actual them.”

They’re “very, very” something…

When looking for love, it’s very appealing when you see at least one “very” in your partner. For example, they’re very smart, or very hardworking or very supportive, etc. “Although finding one very in your partner is very good, when you spot a 'two-very' aspect in someone, this can be a very big red flag,” explains Salmansohn. “Like, your partner is 'very, very' extravagantly generous with spending money on you — this might be a sign that they are 'very, very' eager to try to buy your love.” Anytime someone is very, very extreme in something, they are not operating from a place of true inner balance and might have some emotional issues or lack of strong character.

They can’t commit to anything

Has your new partner ever been in a serious committed relationship before or is their longest relationship three months? Professional matchmaker and founder of Wise Matchmaking Brooke Wise says these are some questions to consider. “This could be a red flag. It doesn’t mean that his/her first serious relationship can’t be their wife or husband, but the odds are not in your favor.” Especially if your new partner is in their late 30s or 40s. Of course, there are legit reasons they may not have been in a serious relationship. For example, they traveled or lived overseas for a long time. If that’s not the case, they could just be a forever bachelor or bachelorette.

How they communicate with their ex

Being friends with an ex is completely fine. But sometimes, it's a sign that they're not ready for a new relationship. So, what do you look for? Well, it’s not about how much they communicate with their ex, it’s how they communicate. “If he/she fights with them, becomes obsessed with the back and forth, can’t seem to stop texting nasty messages, and goes on and on about what a crazy, nasty, selfish [expletive] they are, it might be less about the ex and more about your partner,” says Laurel House, a dating and relationship expert. This can be a huge red flag because they clearly haven’t fully moved on.

More: My Phone Ruined My Relationship

They drink excessively

On your first date, do they order one, two, three too many drinks? “It’s one thing to be nervous and need to take the edge off. It’s another thing to get wasted. Make sure that you are able to have sober dates too,” says House. “Dating isn’t just about having fun, it’s about seeing the reality of what life looks like together. And having fun and drinking all of the time isn’t a healthy reality.”

They pulled a bait & switch

“Manipulators start off by impressing women with extravagant outings, flowers and/or flattery. One to three months into the relationship, they have a plethora of excuses for no longer being generous and suddenly, they’re claiming to have hardships,” says relationship expert and best-selling author, Mary “HoneyB” Morrison. By this time, they’ve won your heart, and you might start sponsoring those date nights and everything they did in the beginning. “This type of person is seeking financial convenience and perhaps refuge.”

They never open up about their past

If your new partner doesn’t open up about their past, refuses to go deep and talk about real things, they may fear or avoid intimacy.  “He/she may not be ready or willing to open their heart. He/she may still be hurting from a relationship in the past or may not have done the work to move on from their last love,” says House. This is a red flag because if they can’t open their heart, they won’t stick around.

They’re rude to others

Especially those in the service industry, like servers, the valet, etc. “This could be a warning sign that this lack of manners or respect isn’t an isolated issue,” says Wise. They might have an ideal that they’re entitled or superior, and in time, this attitude may transmit onto you, your family and your friends, so make sure you’re paying attention to how they interact with others.

How Survivor Inspired Kellyn Bechtold to Fight Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is no joke. Kellyn Bechtold can tell you that firsthand. The latest Survivor: Ghost Island castoff said she has been getting disgusting hate from social media trolls, including somebody who wished she would get cancer. Now, Kellyn is expressing her desire to be an advocate for young people who are victims of keyboard brutality. But that's not all we discussed in our one-on-one interview. Kellyn also promised an incredible finale with a tough jury that grills the final three castaways into truly proving why they are the most deserving winner.

SheKnows: Going into that Tribal Council, you expressed concern the votes were going to fall against you. Was it just you being paranoid or did you know your elimination was coming?

Kellyn Bechtold: It doesn't make great television, but I knew it was me. You don't see much of our relationship, but Sebastian and I were super close. He came to me and paid his respects. Wendell had, too, and said, "Kellyn, I love you unconditionally, but it's 75 percent sure you're going home tonight." I thought if he was telling me he loves me and he's 75 percent sure, that was really 100 percent sure. They had done the honors of letting me know. Donathan gave it his best shot at getting things to be emotional. He came to me before Tribal and was like, "I'm so mad." I was like, "You aren't going with them? Let's vote Dom. He hasn't had any votes toward him. Let's make him feel what it feels like to have his name come out of the urn." I was emotionally caught up in Donathan's emotions at that point. In the middle of Tribal they were outwardly talking about splitting the votes. I figured out instead of wasting my emotional vote on Dom, I voted for Donathan to cause a tie. It was really fun. I knew I was on my way out, but I had this little golden sparkle in my eye that I was going to make them at least sweat it for a minute. That's how it went down from my perspective. Maybe the boys were going back and forth on whether or not they should get Donathan out or me. From my perspective, they told me it was my time. It was what it was.

Kellyn Bechtold voted off Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: From a viewer's perspective, Domenick and Wendell appear to be controlling almost everything. How are these guys surviving all the votes?

KB: I don't know. I know why I didn't pull the trigger at 10. I had done a lot of work premerge to vote out the Malolos. I thought they [Dom and Wendell] were a shield for me because they were bigger threats. ... At the point we have eight people, we can do this [vote them out.] I really thought it was in Laurel and Donathan's best interest to come with us girls, but they had a lot more days with Dom and Wendell on the island. I didn't meet them until the merge. I didn't have as many days to build a relationship. Relationships are a big deal. Laurel trusted them, and she trusted them more than me. As much as I wanted to stay, hey girl, you voted for me and I voted for you because these boys are bossing us around. Let's work together and get them out. It just wasn't the story she wanted to follow. Those boys had a lot of ammunition. I kept saying I brought a knife to the gunfight after the merge. They frankly outplayed me so hard. They got to the goat first.

Kellyn Bechtold on Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: Has there been any dissention or distrust between Domenick and Wendell?

KB: Zero. They were open about it to me. I knew nothing was going to happen unless Dom or Wendell were willing to make it happen. They had Laurel, Donathan and Sebastian in their pocket. My last three days, I was trying to sit down with Dom first and say, "These are all the reasons you cannot beat Wendell in the end. You should sure as hell start making a move because he's gonna beat you." That wasn't working. Dom was like, "There's no way he's gonna beat me." I was like, "Fine. I'll go to Wendell." I went to him for about an hour breaking down who each person would vote for. "You can't beat Dom in the end." I thought there was more wiggle room between Dom and Wendell than there was between Wendell and Laurel. But they were not going to budge. They both looked me in the face and said, "You're wrong. We have to go together. If one of us goes, the other is next." From my perspective, on day 35 they were tight as glue. I can't wait to see what happens and see if they decide to stick with that or not.

SK: Who did you want to go to the end of the game with?

KB: Originally I wanted to go with Angela and Chelsea. After Chelsea was gone, I still wanted to take Angela. Honestly, people can make fun of me for this, but I thought I could beat anyone except Dom and Wendell. I was willing to go with Laurel and Donathan if they were going to pull me in. I had been working with Sebastian all game. He and I were really great friends, he just happened to want to work with the men. I would've taken Sebastian, but I was a little nervous about the likability factor that he could beat me. I was really willing to go with any combo except Dom or Wendell. If I had to take one of them to the end, I probably would've been willing to go with Dom, but I didn't trust him. He and I were never on the same page. We were working together out of convenience, never out of alliance.

SK: Let's talk about Angela. Other contestants already voted out this season have said she's oblivious to the game that's being played around her. What's your take on Angela?

KB: She was left out of that first Chris vote because she was working with him and people couldn't really trust her. She just kept getting left out of votes, and that was really intentional. None of us really knew where she stood 100 percent, and so we didn't necessarily trust to tell her what was going on. Personally, she's tough as nails, she's an amazing person and a smart woman who served her country. I adore her, but she was not being outwardly strategic. She was always talking to me about what we were going to do, but she was kind of along for the ride in a very tough way.

SK: What kind of feedback are you getting on social media from viewers?

KB: [Laughs.] It's been very mixed. Many people reach out to tell me that they have courage now to make moves in their lives that they didn't have courage to before. Women have reached out to me about being in tough relationships. That part is amazing. Other people have reached out and told me they hope I get cancer, they hope I die. There's a lot of extremes. It's been a really interesting exercise in owning who I am in my own story. It really doesn't matter what people think about me. I feel bad for young kids these days who deal with cyberbullying and all that stuff. I really would love to be an advocate for young kids who have to deal with hate online. It's just something that's really unnecessary in the world. I can handle it. I'm a 31-year-old woman. I have no apologies for who I am. I am proud to be a wild woman who doesn't sit in the corner and keep her mouth shut. People can say whatever they want, but I want to encourage people to try and keep their hate to themselves. Not everyone is a 31-year-old woman with her own life to live. I feel like a mother bear. Come at me if you want to. Say bad things about me, but when I see them talking about my other Ghost Islanders that's what really gets to me. For the most part, it's been a wonderful as family and strangers have sent thank you cards and told me I inspired them. Overwhelmingly, it's been wonderful.

SK: That's intense to think people would wish cancer on you for being on a TV show.

KB: Just to think about a human being in their home and feeling that upset and sad that they would reach out and type those hateful things. I just feel really bad for people that are that unhappy. It's a dark place they're in. I'm more concerned for people. I hope for anyone who feels that way. I still care for them. I really hope they can find light and love in their life.

SK: Give us a tease to finale night. What can we expect?

KB: Oh, my gosh! It's going to be amazing! If you all think I'm going to go over there and sit on the jury and not blow things up, you're wrong. I'm pretty proud of the questioning and lawyer vibes that I put in final jury. We didn't let anyone off the hook easily. If anything, you've got to tune in and see how the final three are called to the bench and they have to stand up for their game. It is exciting. I loved it. It was amazing. To me, it's one of the times where people have been drilled the hardest for actually proving their game. Tune in and find out. It's going to be a wild ride. I think the jury is coming in hot, as they say [laughs.]

Angela Perkins and Kellyn Bechtold on Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: How did you get on the show?

KB: I turned my video to selfie, pressed record and talked for three minutes. I didn't want to use editing software or anything like that. I auditioned twice, back-to-back years. The first time I sent in a video, I was asked to fill out an application but I didn't hear anything. A year later, obviously my life had changed a lot. I had been married and divorced in that year, and that's the "fun" story to pick up on. I think they were intrigued by this idea of a strong female character trying to build her own new life for herself. I was just myself. If anybody wants to be on the show, literally all you have to do with today's technology is press record in selfie video, talk to the camera, tell them who you are, why you want to play Survivor and just go for it. The fact is, you will never be on the show if you never apply. I encourage anyone who has any inkling to do it, to go ahead and press record.

Alec and Hilaria Baldwin are the proud new parents of a sweet baby boy, born Thursday, May 17. The couple posted one of their first family photos on Instagram with the caption, "He's here! He's perfect," and the hashtag "#wegotthis2018."

Side note: I can't be the only one who read that in Baldwin's Trump voice, and, yes, I apologize for potentially tainting this truly special moment.

Though the couple hasn't unveiled their son's name, Alec joked about some possibilities, "Jimmy Fallon Baldwin" and "Fallon Kimmel Baldwin," with Entertainment Tonight at the ABC upfront presentation on Tuesday. Hilaria, for her part, reportedly laughed off the ridiculous options — all while standing nine months pregnant in heels. As the expression goes, "Not all heroes wear capes."

With so much going on in the news, it's doubtful Baldwin and his guests will have any trouble filling the time. Let's just hope he's got some coffee on hand; he'll need it with four babies running/crawling/scooting around the house.

Tarek El Moussa Is Happy For Christina El Moussa's New Relationship

There's a lot of history between Tarek and Christina El Moussa, but that doesn't mean that these two haven't found a way to move on with their own lives or make peace with one another. They are co-parenting their two children, Taylor, 7, and Brayden, 2, after all; teamwork has to be the order of the day. But, it doesn't hurt to actually be happy or, at minimum, okay with seeing your ex thrive even when you're not the cause of it, as may currently be the case with Tarek.

More: Tarek & Christina El Moussa's Relationship Breakdown Will Be on Flip or Flop

You see, while Tarek was chatting the upcoming season of Flip or Flop (can you believe he's already promoting Season 8?) with Us Weekly, he offered up his feelings about Christina's new relationship with British TV presenter Ant Anstead.

"I’m happy she met a nice, normal guy," Tarek told the outlet. "I hope the best for her."

It's a mature, zen outlook from Tarek but it's certainly the most ideal one you could hope for. And it seems that wishing the best for Christina in her relationship, as a business partner and co-parent, isn't the only relationship status he's thinking about. When asked whether he was dating or looking for love, Tarek replied that a relationship was "the last thing on my mind right now. I’m rebuilding myself and focusing on my kids and being the best dad possible."

Tarek's response to all romance-related questions is interesting, indeed, but it doesn't mean that he or Christina will escape the awkwardness just yet. With news already leaked that the breakdown of their relationship will be shown on the upcoming season of Flip or Flop, Tarek wanted to address that as well.

"There were ups and downs,” he told Us Weekly. "But at the end of the day, we’re still business partners. It’s a job to do and we have to get up, go to work, support our kids and make a living."

And finally, one of Tarek's comments might actually best sum up how he feels about the show, his relationship to Christina and what lies ahead: "It's not something that we can just throw away, especially after all these years.”

Mayim Bialik on Teaching Her Boys About Sex & What Blossom Would Be Doing Today

As actor and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik traveled on tour to support her No. 1 New York Times best-seller, 2017’s Girling Up: How to Be Strong, Smart and Spectacular — a guide to growing up for teenage girls — she kept getting the same question over and over.

"Are you going to do Boying Up?"

“And my initial reaction was, ‘Of course not,’” Bialik tells SheKnows. But "as more and more people asked about it, I realized: As a neuroscientist, the things I know about puberty and the endocrine system, I know them about boys too."

So she did it. In Boying Up: How to Be Brave, Bold and Brilliant, which came out May 8, Bialik tackles physical, mental and sociological issues pertaining to teenage boys — from puberty to sex to media. And she doesn’t shy away from subjects such as eating disorders, mental illness and addiction. Along the way, Bialik also addresses the problematic stereotypes and the expectations placed on boys and men.

As for her own boys (Miles, 12, and Frederick, 9) Bialik says being surrounded by testosterone feels completely natural to her.

More: Mayim Bialik Is Literally the Worst at The Big Bang Theory Trivia

“The universe gave me exactly what it thought I could handle,” she says. “For me, having boys felt very comfortable. I feel like I’m a good mom of boys. I like to be physical and be silly and goofy and gross with them because that’s how I am. There are also a lot of things that I have to learn about them. How they communicate or don’t and how they process emotions is very different, generally speaking, than girls.”

She and her ex-husband, Michael Stone, try to let their sons “develop organically,” she says, in that they don’t force the boys into doing things that are traditionally expected of males but instead let them make their own way.

And while she says that sometimes her sons don’t want to talk, she actively fosters open communication in the household, especially when current events have the boys asking tricky questions.

“Without judgment or getting political, there are words and concepts that I was not planning on teaching my children, which our president has introduced into our vernacular,” she says. “Even the notion of 'What’s a porn star?' — that’s not a conversation I was looking to have.”

More:  The 15 Best Amy & Sheldon Moments on The Big Bang Theory

She often discusses with her boys the concept of "locker room talk," which she also addresses in her book, and how what boys and men say about girls and women behind closed doors matters. She thinks that lesson is particularly timely in today’s climate.

“I think that’s where we are in culture in general, Trump or not. We are opening up conversations that many are nervous to have,” she says. “But we can’t be nervous. We have to have these conversations with our boys, or the internet will have them for us.”

When it comes to the internet, Bialik is mindful of — yet realistic about — her sons’ social media usage, even though they don’t have cell phones yet.

“It’s the way a lot of kids are communicating and interacting,” she says. “It would be foolish for us as parents to try to impose our judgment on the frivolity or silliness of interactions on the internet. That being said, I think it’s important that kids be given appropriate access.”

She makes sure to put things in context, explaining to her sons how a lot of what they see online is unhealthy behavior and “how much wanting approval, needing approval and living your life trying to plan your next set of posts is really not healthy, ultimately.” And she tries to lead by example by not presenting an artificial image online (and limiting her social media use overall).

More:  Mayim Bialik Wants to Teach Your Daughter About Sex

For example, Bialik typically only posts online about her professional life — like her popular role as Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on the CBS hit The Big Bang Theory. Her character just wed longtime boyfriend Sheldon (played by Jim Parsons), and she says she’s looking forward to seeing what married life looks like for the scientists.

“There might be some hijinks inserted,” she says. “But I think them moving in together was actually a bigger step in some ways than actually getting married, which I think can be said of real life as well.”

Die-hard fans remember Bialik for her role as the spunky title character on NBC’s Blossom, which ran from 1990 to 1995. When asked what she thinks Blossom Russo would be doing in 2018, Bialik doesn’t hesitate.

“I think she’d probably be a civil rights attorney,” she says. “I want to believe she’d try to pursue justice and right the wrongs of a broken society.” We definitely want to believe that too.

Prince Charles Was Given an Important Role in the Royal Wedding

Ever since Meghan Markle confirmed that her father, Thomas Markle Sr., would not be attending the royal wedding, there have been boatloads of speculation about who would step in to walk Meghan down the aisle and present her to Prince Harry.

The answer is a little bit complicated and shows that, although Saturday's wedding will be steeped in tradition, in some ways it will also be modern and unique.

This morning, Kensington Palace officially announced that Prince Charles, Harry's dad, will walk Meghan halfway down the aisle.

"Ms. Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George's Chapel on her Wedding Day. The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way," the statement said.

But CBS News Royal Contributor Royah Nikkhah also reported that Meghan will make the first part of her walk down the aisle in St. George's Chapel surrounded by her flower girls and page boys — and with no one on her arm. She'll only meet Prince Charles at the Quire, about halfway down, and continue her walk with him from there. The nontraditional choice is a show of independence for Meghan.

"[It's] unprecedented, as far as I'm aware, for a royal bride to walk herself halfway up the aisle, but this is the wedding of twists and turns," Nikkhah said on CBS This Morning.

The Telegraph reported that Prince Charles will not officially "give away" Meghan at the ceremony — that part of the ceremony will simply be omitted. The news source added that it was Meghan's idea for Charles to walk her halfway down the aisle and that she and Charles have a warm bond headed into the wedding.

Meghan's father has been the center of controversy over the last week. After admitting that he had staged lucrative paparazzi photos of himself preparing for the wedding, Thomas was in the spotlight and causing drama for the young couple. Shortly after, he reportedly suffered a heart attack. He announced that he would need heart surgery and could not travel to the wedding. Yesterday, Meghan confirmed in a statement that her father needs to "focus on his health" and will not attend.

Property Brothers' Drew Scott and Scott Brothers Global creative director Linda Phan finally tied the knot on Saturday at a beautiful, fun-filled ceremony and reception in Italy. Although many aspects of the nuptials were traditional, the bride and groom were anything but.

Phan wore a Claire Pettibone gown. From the waist down, the dress is a traditional flowing ivory silk. But the top half of the dress is a spread of pink, purple and blue beaded silk flowers that cover the bodice and drip down the dress's shoulders all the way down to the wrists.

“It was love at first sight," she told People in an exclusive interview. "The color, the intricate floral details on the bodice and sleeves, and the simple elegance of the silk... were so perfect. As soon as I tried it on, I could already imagine the whimsy and magic of our wedding day."

The dress wasn't just the perfect choice for Phan: the floral gown made waves as she walked down the aisle.

“I’m choking up just thinking about Linda in her dress walking down the aisle,” her sister and bridesmaid, April Phan, told People. “She looked so beautiful, stunning. It was a fairy-tale dream come true. Her sweet, sweet smile melted everyone’s hearts.”

Scott himself was blown away by the dress when he first saw it on his wedding day.

“I was up there waiting overlooking the water and she tapped me on the shoulder," he told People. "It was the most beautiful first moment ever. Her dress [was] absolutely stunning. It wasn’t the traditional white, it has this beautiful flow to it, I absolutely loved it.”

Linda wasn't the only person in the wedding party who strayed from the traditional American wedding garb. Scott went for a different type of traditional outfit: he and his groomsmen wore Irish kilts by Claymore Imports.

Both bride and groom changed into more traditional garb for the reception. Scott changed into a custom tux by Gotstyle, while Linda changed into a second Claire Pettibone gown, this one a traditional white beaded pick.

How to Make Filipino Barbecue Pork Skewers — No Grill Required

Pork barbecue skewers are seemingly everyone's favorite street food in the Philippines, where the skewers are grilled right in front of you. Ah, we can just smell the smoky skewers now...

Pork-barbecue-skewers-2

They look irresistable, right?

If you want these pork barbecue skewers for yourself, we have great news: You don't even need a grill! You can make them in your kitchen on the stovetop or in the oven. Of course, you won't have the smoky flavors that coals give, but don't worry: They'll still be delicious.

In terms of flavor, a Filipino's basic pantry staples soy sauce, ketchup, sugar and lemon give these pork skewers tons of flavor. You might be asking yourself, "Ketchup? Why?" It may seem wild, but ketchup plays a key role in the marinade, adding a very interesting contrast of flavor with the rest of the ingredients.

That said, we have one tip for you: Because cooking with ketchup leaves a sticky residue, cooking these skewers in more than one batch can harden the residue on the griddle between batches, and it can be hard to clean it off. So the best way to cook them if you are making a big batch is in the oven on a lined baking pan (and they all cook at the same time).

Pork-barbecue-skewers-3

Pork barbecue skewers recipe

Yields 10 – 12 skewers

Prep time: 30 minutes | Inactive time: 24 hours | Cook time: 30 minutes | Total time: 25 hours

Ingredients:

  • 2.2 pounds pork shoulder, sliced lengthwise
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 5 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Ground pepper, to taste
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (or other kind of oil)
  • 12 skewers

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together all the marinade ingredients, except for the olive oil. Adjust the taste if needed. Set aside 1/4 cup of the marinade, and mix it with the olive oil. Place it in a small bowl, cover and refrigerate.
  2. Place the meat in a container with a cover, then mix it with the remaining marinade. Cover and refrigerate for 24 hours.
  3. When ready to cook, discard the marinade, and thread the meat on the skewers.
  4. You can cook them two ways: on the stovetop or in the oven. If you are cooking a small batch, it's easier to cook them on a hot stovetop griddle. If it's a large batch, then it's better to bake them in an oven heated to 375 degrees F for 20 – 25 minutes or until they are cooked through. While cooking, baste them with the marinade that you had set aside.
  5. Serve hot. You can serve them with a simple vinegar sauce by combining vinegar, salt, sugar, pepper and minced onions.
  6. Note: Ketchup will leave a sticky residue after cooking. If using a griddle, make just 1 batch, because the longer the ketchup stays on the griddle, the harder it becomes. Pour some water on the griddle immediately after cooking to soften the residue. If baking, line the baking pan with baking paper.

Everyone has their favorite part of a wedding. For some, it’s the dress; for some, it’s the kiss; and for some, it’s the food — especially the cake. While we’ll have to wait until Saturday for the first two, you’re in luck if you want to see the cake. Kensington Palace has just released a brief interview with Claire Ptak, the pastry chef in charge of the cake.

Turns out, Ptak has been able to use the royal kitchens for her creations. “We’ve been so lucky to work here at Buckingham Palace to bake the cakes and ice the cakes,” she says in the video.

What You Need to Know About the Latest Attempt to Defund Planned Parenthood

$

The Trump administration is expected to propose a new policy barring medical facilities that perform abortions from receiving federal funding for family planning services, The New York Times reported. In addition, this proposed rule, which is expected to be announced on Friday, May 18 or early the following week, would eliminate the guarantee of receiving accurate health information about pregnancy options. This is a clear and deliberate attack on Planned Parenthood, which currently receives federal funding to carry out their non-abortion services, and is one of the largest providers of affordable health care in the country.

What would the policy do?

To start with, it would put the lives of the 4 million people in the United States who rely on health care from providers funded by Title X at risk by limiting their access to basic services like cancer screenings, birth control and health checkups. This would happen if the federal funding health centers like Planned Parenthood received was cut because they also provide abortion services or even just referrals.

The proposed rule would also bring us back to a 1988 Reagan administration policy, which dictates that clinics that provide abortions must have a "physical separation" as well as "separate personnel" from their other family planning services, according to The New York Times. It is also sometimes referred to as a "gag rule" because it also prevents medical professionals who work at facilities that receive federal family planning funding from giving accurate information about abortion or where they could obtain one.

Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said on a press call this morning that the point of the proposed rule is that abortion is "stigmatized and put off to the side in some sort of separate facility — separate from where people go to get their health care."

But the proposed rule goes one step beyond the Reagan-era policy and strips the patients' right to get information on abortion as a safe and legal medical option, Kashif Syed, senior policy analyst for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said on the same press call.

And for clarification, neither Planned Parenthood nor any of the other federally funded clinics currently receives federal funding for abortions. The money they receive from the government is used exclusively for providing services like health screenings and birth control.

More: No, Planned Parenthood Still Doesn't Use Federal Funds for Abortions

When will this rule go into effect & what can we do to stop it?

As of right now, we're still waiting for the Trump administration to officially release the proposed rule, but, according to Syed, it has already been submitted to the Office of Budget and Management. He explained that the whole process usually takes between three and six months or longer. It starts with the notice of the proposed rulemaking and is followed by soliciting public comments for 30 to 60 days before the final rule is issued, he clarified. So right now, we're right at the beginning of the rulemaking process.

Planned Parenthood urges its supporters to sign a petition against the proposed rule or to plan a flash action requesting that your representative oppose the gag rule.

Given that this isn't the Trump administration's first attempt to defund the organization and others who receive Title X funding and provide a full range of medical services, including abortion, there will likely be pushback against the proposed policy.

MoreKate Walsh on Why Defunding Planned Parenthood Would Be Disastrous

“The whole point of how they’ve designed this is to push Planned Parenthood out of the Title X system,” Laguens said. “It’s not by accident that this is all designed this way and the result would make it impossible for women to come to Planned Parenthood who are counting on us every day.”

How to Watch Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Wedding

We are officially less than a month away from quite literally the most exciting celebrity wedding of the year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding. The wedding, which will take place at Windsor Castle on Saturday, May 19, has been one of the most highly anticipated events of 2018. As details have emerged about these royal nuptials, which include everything from speculation about who is designing Markle's dress to the kind of wedding cake they'll be enjoying to which destination they'll choose for their honeymoon, we've all gotten a bit obsessed. (How many other royal weddings could we ever see, though?)

But the key question on everyone's mind at this point has to be: How can we watch the royal wedding if we're one of the many admirers who can't attend? Here's everything you need to know about how to watch Prince Harry and Markle get hitched.

More: Everything We Know About Meghan Markle & Prince Harry's Wedding So Far

Who is covering the wedding?

The primary U.S. outlet covering the royal wedding (which means we get an all-access pass, so to speak) is Today. It was announced on April 11 that the primary Today team would be heading to the U.K. for the weekend of the royal wedding. Lead coanchors Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb will reportedly do an exclusive live show on May 18, the day before the wedding, with familiar faces like Kathie Lee Gifford and Al Roker making appearances.

Then, on the day of the wedding, Guthrie and Kotb will reportedly be watching and commenting on the wedding as it happens, starting about 30 minutes in. If Today tuning in 30 minutes late freaks you out, PBS is also reportedly covering the royal wedding — thank goodness for that!

In addition to NBC and PBS providing coverage of the royal wedding, we've learned of two other key networks that will be covering the royal festivities: Fox News and CNN.

According to a press release issued by Fox News, "Fox & Friends’ Ainsley Earhardt will co-host Fox & Friends Weekend live from Windsor, England," beginning at 5 a.m. Eastern (or 2 a.m. Pacific, for those on the West Coast). Then, Earhardt will join up with anchors Shep Smith and Sandra Smith as they broadcast from outside St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle at 6 a.m. Eastern (3 a.m. Pacific, for the West Coasters).

CNN anchors Anderson Cooper, Alisyn Camerota and Don Lemon will begin their live broadcast of the royal wedding at 4 a.m. Eastern (or 2 a.m. Pacific).

Where can you watch?

Americans are in luck because we'll be able to watch right on our televisions. Today's live coverage of the event will air on NBC. Deadline confirmed on April 11 that PBS will be airing the royal wedding in its entirety on May 19, with plenty of royals-themed programming airing in the week leading up to the event.

YouTube is also livestreaming the wedding on the Royal Family's official YouTube channel. According to a press release, "The livestream will follow the wedding procession, marriage ceremony at Windsor Castle, and wedding day happenings along the way. Afterwards, the footage will be reshown so that people can enjoy this wonderful event no matter their location or time zone." You can find all the details here.

What time does it air?

Blame time zones. To see the royal wedding here in the U.S., you may have to go to bed pretty early on Friday night. In the U.K., the event kicks off at noon on Saturday, so that's 7 a.m. on the East Coast of the U.S. and 4 a.m. on the West Coast. You can always DVR it, of course, but why do that when you can watch it live and nap in the afternoon?

And there you have it. All the key details about how to watch the royal wedding. Make space in your DVR now, and remember to set no less than a dozen alarms for the day because you do not want to miss a single second of this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Do you love prosecco? Us too, especially when the sparkling white wine is mixed with fruits and other flavors. You're not alone if you ever wished it were more convenient to sip on the refreshing drink midday during the summer. And now you’re in luck: Starbucks has started stocking (admittedly booze-free) prosecco lollipops:

prosecco lollipops

prosecco lollipops

Starbucks is known for regularly changing up their menu, from a Crystal Ball frappe to a color-changing cold brew. The new prosecco pops are already in store and have a tie-dye look to them. Delish got intel from a Starbucks spokesperson, who said that the Italian sunsets inspired the colorful orangey pink, yellow and red lollis, so it’s kind of like taking your vacation with you.

The prosecco pops are seasonal and will only be on the menu through the summer, so take advantage of the sweet pick-me-up while you can. The beloved coffee café also added two new Frappuccinos, the Ultra Caramel and a triple mocha, which will be sticking around more permanently. Both frappes start with sweet cold-brew whipped cream, which has 15 milligrams of caffeine already packed in, on the bottom of the cup — and they haven’t even added the frappe yet. Fans of previous iterations of caramel Frappuccino and mocha will notice the new flavors are similar, just a little richer.

Still not enough of Starbucks' special menus? You can also try out their new vegan macadamia oat cookie, part of the permanent menu, or a salted, potato chip-crusted brownie, which will stick around until June 4.

6 Interior Design Trends to Try This Summer

$

This summer, your home is due for a refresh. After you've painstakingly cleared the dust bunnies and detritus, it's time to open the windows wide and take a good look around to see where there's room for a little more style. Summer is all about fun, so we love the idea of adding more color and pattern and more plants to make a space feel more vibrant and alive. These DIY design trends are easy to pull off if you're itching to give your home a makeover.

1. Try some accent wallpaper

Wallpaper is the easiest way to give a room a big makeover, but it's awfully permanent, which can be a challenge for renters and the commitment-phobic. That's why we love peel-and-stick wallpaper. It enables you to play with fun, bold designs without having to worry about getting your deposit back. Whether you're opting for a fun chalkboard wall in the kitchen, something vibrant and colorful in the bathroom or a bold botanical accent wall in the living room, removable wallpaper can achieve it.

2. Create a jungalicious space

Indoor plants are totally making a comeback, and these days it's wise to err on the side of huge and plentiful. We're not talking a pot of parsley on the windowsill here — we're talking cascades of green ivy trailing from the top of your bookcase and Monstera deliciosa making your living room feel like it's nestled in the rainforest. Look up plants that are easy to grow indoors, and you'll reap the benefits twofold. Not only will your space look lush and lively, but you'll also have better air quality in your home. If you're a little gardening-shy, you can opt for realistic faux plants instead. A paradise palm or bamboo tree can add a big impact, and you won't have to worry about remembering to water them!

3. Make a succulent terrarium

Most succulents and cacti can stand up to the full summer sun and don't require a lot of water, making them an eco-friendly design accent. Try making a succulent terrarium for your patio or porch that can be taken inside once the weather turns cool again. Just get a decorative glass container that has plenty of airflow, line the bottom with rocks and a cactus potting mix, and plant away. You can use mini succulents to create a patchwork look or choose a couple of larger specimens that you want to stand out.

4. Add some geometry

Geometric accents are everywhere these days, from area rugs to wallpaper, wine bottle racks to light fixtures. Give your home a mini modern makeover by bringing in some geometric accents. It can help give your interior design a feeling of structure, and metal geometric pieces look great in minimalist and mid-century modern spaces.

5. Weave macramé plant hangers

If you're looking for a new summer hobby, macramé is it. You'll wind up with tons of fashionable hangers for your new plants, and the things you weave make great gifts, too. All you need to get started is some rope, and you can find thorough tutorials on YouTube. This '70s trend is back in a big way, so don't be surprised if your friends see your macramé plant hangers and ask you to make them one.

6. Bring some color to the kitchen

The kitchen should be functional first and foremost, but too often, people forget to add design touches to it, making the kitchen one of the more boring rooms in the house. Add life to yours by swapping plain oven mitts and dish towels with something colorful, or swapping out your boring old utensil holder for a colorful ceramic vase. Do a bold-patterned accent wall, hang some large-scale art or even paint your fridge. Once your kitchen becomes a stylistically fun room, you may find yourself becoming more excited at the prospect of cooking dinner ... or even doing dishes.

Try out one of these DIY design ideas, and your home will finally feel summer-ready.

Kim Kardashian West Gets Flak for Posting Bathtub Pic of Saint & North

Kim Kardashian West is one proud mama for sure — and not one to shy from sharing her life and family on social media. Yesterday, she shared a super-cuddly shot of North, 4, and Saint, 2, at bath time that reveals just how much Saint takes after his papa, Kanye West.

West and Saint are definitely twinning these days; there is no doubt about it. I mean, check out Saint's adorable Kanye West underbite grin here.

Saint and North

Saint and North

One commenter raved, "Omg baby kayne!!!!" Another wrote, "Look at those faces, Saint looks just like his Daddy."

You can see how much the little guy looks like his dad in the Mother's Day photo Kardashian West shared as well — a shot that includes baby Chicago, born via surrogate on Jan. 15. Kardashian West captioned this picture, "You don’t even understand how many lollipop bribes this pic cost me... but it was so worth. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. I’m the luckiest mom in the world to have these three babies in my life!"

Kim fam

Saint is in the middle rocking Mickey Mouse pj's, but even the pj's can't take away from the Kanye West cool vibe. Here's another Kardashian West posted of Saint back in May (with family dog Sushi), and he's strolling with major West swag.

And then there's this pic — party of five — featuring a rare glimpse of West grinning in the direction of his tiny twin.

But back to the tub picture — predictably, fans are split. Many adore the sweet photo of Saint and North, but others (rather nastily) criticized Kardashian West for sharing a bathtub moment on the internet.

One follower wrote, "I think this inappropriate post for the days that we live in now with all the perverts and pedophiles....think about it..."

"Just another display of selfishness," wrote another. "Putting her vanity before her kids. This broad is simply sickening." Um, broad? Sorry, did we time-warp to 1945 or what?

Another wrote, "Beautiful kids I just would be careful cause of so many perverts in this world."

But many fans rushed to Kardashian West's defense.

"Pedophiles don't care if kids are wearing clothes or not so you have no idea what you are talking about," wrote one.

"How is this child abuse?" another commented. "I post pictures of my kids in the bath cuz they are cute and I'm proud to be their mother! Nothing is showing in this picture, PLEASE explain to me how this is child abuse. You have no clue what you are talking about."

A third had a pretty good point: "People... what’s the difference between this adorable pic vs. an exact similar adorable pic of the kiddos out at the pool? Or at the beach? For all you know, they could have swimming suits on, honestly... modest bathtub pictures of our kids are legendary so let this just be that and nothing more."

Did you get that? Legendary. Anyway, it wouldn't be a Kardashian pic without a little controversy, right? And this pic is adorable, hands-down. Plus we're loving seeing the burgeoning resemblance between Saint and West. Only time will tell if Saint inherits his dad's epic personality too... *cringe*

Grey's Anatomy Gave Sarah Drew & Jessica Capshaw a Sweet Parting Gift

We hate to do this to you since you're probably still in recovery from last night's Season 14 finale of Grey's Anatomy, but prepare for more waterworks, superfans. After the tear-jerking episode aired, stars Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew revealed what their last official day of filming was like — and how the rest of the cast commemorated the end of the era of Dr. Arizona Robbins and Dr. April Kepner.

More: These Grey's Fan Favorites Are Officially Done & We're Not OK

ICYMI, Grey's pulled a shocking stunt during the finale and didn't kill off Arizona and April. This is clearly outside the norm for the medical drama, which has sent more than a few fan favorites to that big hospital in the sky, so to speak.

However, in a touching, fitting tribute to how much Capshaw and Drew (and their characters) have meant to the series and its fans, showrunner Shonda Rhimes showed rare mercy. Instead of seeing catastrophic deaths to end Arizona and April's time at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, fans got to see them get their happy endings. Not surprisingly, their upbeat fates elicited all the feels (read: tears, lots and lots of tears).

And, as if you hadn't cried enough already, the stars took to social media to share their beautiful goodbyes.

Drew posted a photo of the "extraordinary" moment the cast and crew presented the now-former Grey's actors with memory boxes full of pictures and letters.

Using the post to give a shout-out back to the cast and crew, Drew explained, "Spending every moment on set for a full episode allowed me to see their tireless dedication and their extraordinary talent in a new way." She stressed that "every single crew member is absolutely essential" to making Grey's the monumental success it is and that the show's crew is simply "the best."

Drew also celebrated her affection for Capshaw on social media. "This one right here is a bright and shining light," she wrote. "She sees the silver lining in every circumstance. She is a fiercely loyal friend who will help you navigate every twist and turn of life with intelligence, perspective, and real, practical, boots on the ground help. I'm so profoundly grateful that we got to walk through these 9 years and most especially these past two months together."

It's all the feelings mashed up into one."

13 Things Never to Say to Someone Who Is Suicidal or Depressed

$
0
0

The other day, I was asked to sign a card for an athlete in critical condition from attempted suicide. I hesitated.

What do I write to a teenager with so much angst that suicide became his sole option? I could write, “Get well soon,” but who in that situation would want to read those words?

I almost wrote, “We need you on the track,” but “need” seemed inappropriate. Is it ever acceptable to say, “We need you” when someone is suffering from such emotional pain? I settled on the following: “We miss you at track. Sending warm thoughts your way.”

Thoughts for such occasions are ineffable. While there might not be the right words to say, there are the wrong ones. Based on my personal struggles of living with mental illness along with my studies in mental health counseling, the following statements should be avoided when you are conversing with someone who is depressed or suicidal:

"You’re so desperate for attention."

One of the biggest misconceptions is that people expressing suicidal thoughts are seeking negative attention — this is far from the truth. Yes, some might be looking for slight attention, but only because they’re desperately seeking your help. When people share their ideations with you, they trust you. While this can be an immense onus, you should try offering comfort rather than exacerbating their feelings. Arguing that they are seeking attention only affirms their feelings of inadequacy and loneliness.

"Stop playing the victim."

Whatever you do, do not tell people feeling depressed to stop playing the “victim.” If anything, they are victims to mental illness. Would you tell a person with cancer to stop playing the victim? If you answered no — which I hope you did — then you should avoid such statements to people living with mental illness.

"You’re not serious. If you were, you’d be doing it instead of talking about it."

Actions speak louder than words — or so we tend to believe. But with suicide, everyone must be vigilant. Yes, people often speak without thinking, but as a listener, you must consider the context in which such statements are said. Is the person stressed about a school exam and saying out of frustration, “I just want to die!”? This person is most likely feeling overwhelmed and needs some time to work through it. However, if the person persistently speaks of self-harm, then you should be concerned.

Such statements could be cries for help. Claiming that the person is lying implies that you don’t care. But when people are this vulnerable and irrational, you must consider how your insensitive statements could be negative encouragement. Now they must prove to you that they’re serious about death — you just gave them a reason to pursue it.

More: Instead of Helping, My Psychiatrist Made My Mental Health So Much Worse

"You need help. Go to a doctor or a professional."

While this is good advice, you must understand that not everyone wants help that way. These people are confiding in you because they want your help — not that of a stranger. You might not be an expert, but you can try your best to be supportive and comforting by simply listening. Telling those who suffer to get help suggests that you personally don’t care for them and don’t want to bothered.

Also, consider how your statement could worsen their feelings. You’re inadvertently implying that they’re not OK and they need to be “fixed.” While this might not be your intention, you must consider their current mindset. As time passes, you can suggest a therapist, but offer to go with them.

"People are in worse situations than you, so be grateful for the life you have."

True. There are people in worse circumstances, but those living with mental illness are often in similar situations as those facing the most dire conditions — hopelessness, desperation, confinement, abuse — and trying to minimize their own experience isn’t going to help.

"Can’t you see how much you mean to everyone? Everyone loves you."

Ah, yes — the "suicide is selfish" claim. But living with depression can be intolerable, and people with it often prolong their lives for their loved ones’ sakes. In this sense, these individuals are truly altruistic — they endure for their loved ones.

Former track star and all-American teen Madison Holleran affirmed this in her suicide note. Borrowing a line from Virginia Woolf, she depicted her inner turmoil: “I thought how unpleasant it is to be locked out, and I thought how it is worse perhaps to be locked in.” Similarly to Woolf, Madison couldn’t “fight any longer” — just like other victims, she endured for as long as she could.

"Are you going to do something stupid?"

Well, that depends on your definition of “stupid.” What you think is stupid might be brilliant to the person dealing with mental illness. Don’t insult the person’s ideas, but don’t encourage them either. Be an active listener to show that you care. In this case, actions do speak louder than words.

"Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem."

Yes, this is true, but when people are depressed, they feel trapped, and they want a permanent solution, so such a statement would be futile.

"Focus on the positives in your life."

When living with mental illness, people’s self-perceptions are often skewed. To them, the positives are nonexistent. You can reiterate this as many times as you want, but you will sound like a broken record.

"Do something that will get your mind off it."

The problem with mental illness is that it consumes the mind — negative thoughts and feelings are constants. Regardless of what people do, they are trapped in that miserable mindset. The mind is the most powerful part of the body, so doing something that will take their mind off their troubles is much easier said than done.

"So what’s your plan?"

When a person is contemplating suicide, you should avoid the how and focus on the why or what — “Why do you feel this way?” “What caused these thoughts?” Keep in mind, however, that no single event leads to suicide — rather, a series of events gradually build until the person envisions an indestructible wall. While on the brink, the sufferer begins to lose hope.

"If you keep talking like that, I’m calling 911."

Though you want to help, threatening to call 911 only exacerbates the situation. An already vulnerable person courageously divulged a sensitive thought to you. Calling 911 could be perceived as an act of betrayal. Using this threat could even be frightening enough to expedite the impending suicide. Though your action is well intended, it could have a converse effect.

"You’re too depressing to be around."

A person with depression will most likely agree and think, “I’m too depressing to be around me too!” If anything, you just validated that person’s feelings of worthlessness and corroborated the need to terminate life.

So before you speak, try to view the situation from the other’s perspective.

The ancient Five Tibetan Rites don't get nearly us much press as they should, considering they might just be the fountain of youth. We throw tons of money out the window all of the time in the search for products that might help slow down and reverse the aging process, but the five rites are a simple set of exercises with endless stress-reducing and youth- and vitality-preserving benefits — and they can be done at home without wasting a penny.

Each of the Five Tibetan Rites are made up of a set of movements that are repeated 21 times. When practiced daily, they are said to enhance mental clarity and memory, balance hormones, improve health and support emotional well-being.

How do the Tibetan five rites work?

Our glandular system governs youth and vitality. The Five Tibetan Rites are said to normalize hormonal imbalances in the body by stimulating energy flow in our glandular system.

Tips:

  • Practice basic diaphragmatic breathing before beginning the exercises.
  • It is important to connect the breath with the flow of the exercises.
  • Start with three reps of each movement and progressively increase to 21 reps.

Interesting facts:

  • The number 21 is considered a sacred number to Tibetans.
  • The rites stimulate the chakras (the seven energy centers of the body) and increase a flow of energy from the core outward.

Now let's get into the practice.

Rite 1

Rite 1

From a standing position, step feet out about 2-1/2 to 3 feet, with feet parallel and arms extended out in a T shape. Begin to spin in a clockwise direction as fast as you can without losing control. Repeat for 21 revolutions. If you get dizzy, slow down or stop.

Rite 1

End the set by inhaling, reaching hands overhead and meeting palms into a prayer position. Then exhale, draw the hands in front of the heart in prayer, taking a few deep breaths to still yourself.

This movement is known to release negative energy and balance the emotions.

Rite 2

Rite 2

Start in a reclining position on your back, with arms extended by your side and palms pressing onto the Earth (or floor) on either side of hips. On the inhales, draw your chin to your chest and, without bending the knees, lift legs to a vertical position.

Rite 2

On the exhales, slowly release your head and straighten legs as you lower them to the ground. Repeat 21 times. At the end of the set, relax the body and take several deep breaths, resting on your back.

The second rite strengthens the abs and stimulates the energy center associated with the pancreas.

Rite 3

Rite 3

Come to a kneeling position, with hips aligned over the knees and the front of shins and tops of your feet resting on the Earth. Inhale, press your hands on the back of thighs just under buttocks, lift the top of the rib cage, and arch back with the shoulders and head.

Rite 3

Exhale, release hands to the sides of thighs and draw your chin to your chest. Be sure to inhale deeply while arching backward, and exhale deeply while tucking chin to chest. Repeat 21 times.

This exercise opens the solar plexus, heart and throat. It also helps cleanse and balance the emotions.

Rite 4

Rite 4

Begin in a seated position, with legs extended straight out in front of you. Keep your spine erect while pressing palms onto the ground on either side of the hips, with fingers pointed toward feet. Inhale, press through your feet and hands, bend your knees and come up to a tabletop position, with your head tilting gently back.

Rite 4

Exhale and slowly release back to a seated position; gently release your chin to the chest. Tense all the muscles in your body as you press up; relax the body when you lower down. Repeat for 21 reps.

This pose increases energy to the sacral region and is a gentle way to strengthen the thighs and glutes.

Rite 5

Rite 5

From a tabletop position, walk knees and feet back 5 to 6 inches, then tuck toes under so you are on the balls of the feet. On an exhale, lift your sit bones upward and bring the body into a V-like shape, into the Downward-Facing Dog pose.

Rite 5

On an inhale, slowly bend through the elbows, bringing the rib cage forward and down, then press firmly through the hands and lift your chest up and forward, coming into a variation of Upward-Facing Dog pose. On the exhale, lift hips up and back once again, coming into Downward-Facing Dog pose. Inhale to Up Dog; exhale to Down Dog. Repeat 21 times, resting in child's pose for a few breaths once completed.

Rite 5

This is the most vigorous of all the rites and is a great way to revitalize the energy centers in the body.

Once finished, come to a neutral position lying on your back in corpse pose, allowing the body to become completely still and calm. Relax in corpse pose for three to five minutes before completing your practice. Never push yourself to exhaustion. Don’t forget to start with three reps and work up to 21 reps; this allows the physical and energetic body to acclimate to being harmonized and balanced.

Meghan Markle's Mom Just Had Tea With the Queen, Because This Is Her Life Now

Tomorrow — you know, the day when your mom blows up your phone every hour giving you a hard time about not marrying a British prince — just remind her: It's been no picnic for Meghan Markle's mother, Doria Ragland. Ragland had to quit her job at a Los Angeles mental health clinic, a source told Us Weekly on Monday, because the phone wouldn't stop ringing. “Doria made the very difficult decision to leave her job at the clinic because there had been a lot of calls from the media asking to speak with her because her daughter was marrying Prince Harry,” the source said. “It just became overwhelming for Doria and she considered taking a leave of absence, but recognized that the interest was only going to continue after the wedding.”

So, what's a poor mama of a once-actor, brand-new almost-royal supposed to do with her life now? Well, the source says Ragland is contemplating "starting her own private practice" as a social worker, and in the meantime will continue to work as a yoga instructor. Maybe the queen could use a little yoga?

Don't feel too bad for Markle's mama, though. Since she arrived in London on Wednesday, Ragland has been chilling with some of her new in-laws, including Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince William and Duchess Catherine of Cambridge (whom you might know better as Kate).

Ragland also had tea at Windsor Castle with none other than the queen herself on Friday (don't worry, Markle and Harry were there to coach her on how to hold her teacup and handle the watercress finger sandwiches). Markle and Harry were all smiles on the way to tea, waving to photographers and crowds from the back seat of a black SUV.

We're thinking conversation over tea did not touch upon the very prickly subject of Markle's father, Thomas, who will not be attending the much-anticipated nuptials tomorrow — presumably because of recent heart surgery, but also possibly because of a supposed behind-the-scenes scandal having to do with staged paparazzi pics (you can't make this stuff up). Instead, Markle has tapped Prince Charles to walk her down the aisle at St. George's Chapel, where Markle and Prince Harry will marry in front of 600 guests.

The tea at Windsor Castle with the queen is the last time the soon-to-be married couple will see each other before the wedding. A source for Us Weekly says that tonight, Markle and her mom are headed to five-star hotel Cliveden House, where they will (try to) get some sleep before making their way to the castle tomorrow — by carriage, naturally — for the big nuptials.

So, yeah, maybe it's a good week to take your mom for that mother-daughter mani-pedi you keep promising. And a carriage ride in Central Park if you can swing it.
