Selena Gomez & The Weeknd Broke Up, & We're Not OK

Ugh. One of our favorite pop culture couples, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd, has reportedly broken up. Happy Monday, everyone!

More: Selena Gomez & The Weeknd's Summer Dates So Far

Sources tell People magazine that after 10 months together, Gomez and The Weeknd, given name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, couldn't make their relationship work amid their busy schedules.

"She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship," one insider shared. "It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them."

Even with all that physical distance between them, Gomez was often seen attending The Weeknd's shows, but there were many that she couldn't make and "that played a part in them getting distant," an insider explained. It also couldn't have helped that Gomez has had a wild year, taking time off from her music career to have a kidney transplant to treat her lupis. We can see that being tough on any relationship.

The good news is they haven't cut each other entirely out of their lives, so maybe there's hope for reconciliation.

"It’s over for now, but they’re still in touch," a source said. "It’s been hard for them to come to the realization that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months."

Despite what you may be thinking (and admit it — you were thinking it), Gomez is reportedly not back with her perpetually on-and-off boyfriend Justin Bieber, even though they were spotted together over the weekend going to church and then having breakfast together in a nearby café.

Here's hoping this is the last celeb couple to call it quits this year. We're taking a break from breakups until 2018, OK everyone?

I Didn't Realize My Mom Was Clueless Until I Had a Kid

My mom was always a superhero in my eyes. She was the quintessential working mom who was somehow able to climb the ladder in her career and make sure her kids had a home-cooked dinner every night. She never missed a school play or a softball game — or forgot my favorite shirt that always had to be clean even though I wore it constantly.

Although I knew my mom had always wanted to be a grandmother, she was polite enough to refrain from pressuring me overtly about having kids of my own. But with her only other child more preoccupied by his career and serial dating than by starting a family, I knew that as the stable married gal, I might be my mom's only chance to fulfill her dreams of becoming Nana.

I, on the other hand, didn’t always know I wanted to be a mom. Perhaps in no small part because society told me that as a lesbian I shouldn't. But somewhere around my 30th birthday, the stars and Supreme Court justices and my biological clock aligned — and forcefully led me down the fertility path. I became pregnant without too much fanfare.

More: Things No One Tells You About Having a Baby

I was so excited to tell my mom we were expecting. I knew she had waited for this moment for years, as she watched all her friends and siblings and cousins become grandparents. Although at first I had trouble understanding her response when I told her, I came to understand her attitude as "cautious celebration." My mom was so excited about becoming a grandmother, she was afraid to let the emotions out in full force because it didn’t seem real. It was almost as if she didn’t want to jinx it.

As the due date drew nearer, my mom’s excitement grew. She took us shopping and bought beautiful nursery furniture. She talked about how she would be ready to run to the hospital the moment she heard I was in labor. I had warm, fuzzy thoughts thinking about my mom holding my baby, and I felt reassured that she would be there, right from the beginning, to teach me the mom ways and impart her wisdom about how to care for a newborn and how to be a good parent.

But when I actually had the baby, it was a whole different ball game. Sure, my mom was incredibly excited to be a grandma and couldn’t help but bring gifts every time she came to visit. But something really strange happened: It was like my mom became a different person — or maybe just that the person my mom really was all along was finally revealed to me.

More: 5 Types of People You'll Meet as a New Parent

I couldn’t put my finger on it, especially through all those early sleepless nights and hormone surges. But what I did know was that my mom was not the mother and grandmother I knew and wanted her to be. My mom was in fact clueless.

For the first three months of her grandson’s life, she refused to hold him. She wouldn't change his diaper or feed him. She never offered to watch him for a couple of hours so we could, say, get a nap in or go out for a meal or take a walk around the block to catch our breath sans baby. When the baby cried, my mom freaked out, which only made him more upset.

And then, a few months in, when she finally held him for the first time, she was completely awkward. She didn’t know how to support his neck. She tried to feed him, but she didn’t know to tip the bottle up. Five months in, she tried changing a diaper and somehow ended up putting the poop-filled diaper back on. Possibly because of all this or because my mom is so uncomfortable with him or for other unknown reasons entirely, my baby does not like my mom.

“You really should learn to socialize him,” my mom will say, as if we are somehow hiding him in our embrace eternally and refusing to share him with others. I don't have the heart to tell her he's pretty good with just about anyone but her.

More: Hate Today's Politics? How to Teach Kids About Tolerance

The whole conundrum is completely baffling. Presumably, I was a baby once, and my mom had to care for me — right? Didn’t my mom in fact raise two children? Could someone so easily forget how to keep a baby alive? Or had she always been clueless and I've been the truly clueless one all along because I had no idea?

I haven’t had the heart to call her out on her discomfort with my kid — or ask her what’s going on. I’m not sure if I’m more concerned that I’ll burst her bubble and upset her or whether I’ll learn she was just as incompetent with me when I was a baby.

I don’t know how we arrived at a place so sadly divergent from where we expected to be, but I wish my mom might one day be the grandma I know she wants to be — to the grandson I know she’s always wanted. I don't know how we'll get there, but I hope we will.

All of Chris Hemsworth's Kids Want to Be This Badass Lady for Halloween

Poor Thor's got some superhero rivalry on his hands. Chris Hemsworth appeared on Good Morning America this morning to let the world know: Nope, none of his kids want to be Thor for Halloween. Poor beleaguered superdude. Instead, all three of Hemsworth's progeny with wife Elsa Pataky — their daughter India Rose and twin boys Tristan and Sasha — want to dress as Wonder Woman this year.

"I asked my kids the other day," Hemsworth explained, "because we're going to go out trick-or-treating, what they want to wear for Halloween... At the same time — I've got two boys and a little girl — they all said, 'Wonder Woman!'" I mean, an Amazon princess/trained warrior who answers a calling to save the world? Who would want to dress as anyone else for Halloween?

Hemsworth continued amid laughter from the GMA hosts: "I was like, 'That's awesome, that's awesome, but you know, what about Thor?' And at the same time they went, 'NO!'" The kids have good reasoning for their refusal: When Hemsworth asked them who was the stronger superhero, he says they responded with a resounding "Wonder Woman!" Yep, seems pretty accurate. Watch the whole exchange below.

The actor, whose latest film Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters Nov. 3, also jokingly explained to the GMA folks how suddenly Halloween has become a thing in his life — you know, after his childhood scrounging wild fungi or whatever in the Australian wilds. Sure, Chris. Whatever you say.

“We’re from Australia, so we never celebrated much there,” he explained. “In the bush, there wasn’t really any houses around, so you’re foraging through the trees for some berries. But they’re excited now they’re around the chocolate and the lollies.”

Lollies do indeed make for the best Halloweens — lollies and badass feminist Halloween costumes, that is. So it sounds like the Hemsworth Halloween is shaping up to be a real rager... and making me feel pretty lame for letting my kid dress in a plain-old dog costume, but oh, well.

I Was an Ambitious Career Woman — Now My Husband Pays All the Bills

$

I’d always considered myself the more ambitious partner in my marriage. My husband and I got married young, and when my husband complained about his low pay or exhausting hours, I’d encourage him to look for a new job. That was what I always did, at least, when I wasn’t happy where I was.

A year after college, I had my dream job at a women’s lifestyle website as an editor. The path seemed clear to me: I imagined all of the ways I might move up in the company or how I might take my experience there and get an even bigger, better job elsewhere in a few years. I wanted to be a career woman. I wanted to be the boss someday. And if my husband wasn’t interested in that kind of ladder-climbing, it was fine with me — it meant he was more flexible with where I wanted to go next.

In the meantime, my husband and I paid equal amounts toward bills and saved money for our own interests on the side. He didn’t snoop at what my frivolous purchases were and I didn’t look at his. We had a joint bank account where we put in the same amount to cover the costs of our expenses and otherwise had independent accounts.

But then, three years later, I quit that editor job. I didn’t have another one lined up. I wasn’t thinking about jobs at all. Instead, I went hiking for the summer. It had been a dream for years, and I couldn’t think of a better time to do it. While I was gone, my husband paid the bills — the last of the car payments for my car, rent, food for our two dogs, a sky-high summer-in-Phoenix electricity bill. When I came back, I had $1,000 to my name and no job to speak of. He paid the bills then too.

I got uncomfortable fast. It had been one thing for him to pay the bills in a house I wasn’t living in. It felt like an entirely different thing to let him pay for my day-to-day. I’d had a credit card on his account for years but never used it; now I was swiping it at the grocery store several times a week.

More: 5 Successful Women on How to Actually Have a Work-Life Balance

I was bored and often lonely. I busied myself during the day with chores and the gym and getting cheap lunches with friends until he got home. When I was working full-time, I was so eager to feel like I had a life outside of work that I’d spend hours on hobbies — hiking, yoga, painting, seeing friends. Now I looked forward to his company.

Still, my mind raced with ways to make my situation feel more “acceptable.” "Should we have a baby?" I found myself thinking, so at least there would be a reason I was at home? In the meantime I turned the thermostat up and tried to limit how much electricity I was using. I sold old bicycles and office supplies that had been sitting unused in a room. I started working on a book, making myself sit down for an hour-and-a-half each morning to work on it.

He didn’t ask me to do these things, but I felt like I had to. I didn’t know how to feel equal if it wasn’t with money.

A former colleague, Becky Bracken, recently found herself relying on her partner’s paycheck too. “I feel guilty and like I'm putting everyone on the team under stress,” Becky told me. “My husband is totally supportive and sweet, but we can both do math. So, pretty much like everything else, my reaction is crippling guilt.”

More: Doing Housework Isn't Just "Nice" of You, Fellas — It's Your Civic Duty

I could relate. My husband and I strived for an egalitarian relationship, and I felt like I wasn’t holding up my end of the bargain. I wondered if I was working against my own principles, letting a man take care of me. I already felt like I was playing into stereotypical relationship roles, doing laundry and cleaning the kitchen to pass the time. Was this changing the expectations of our partnership?

My discomfort was multiplied by the fact that I was struggling to even want a job. I’d spent the last four months walking through the wilderness. The idea of an office was stifling. I’d scroll through jobs I was qualified for, ones that might make sense as a continuation on my résumé, and want to curl up in a ball. Instead, I applied at bookshops and grocery stores. I considered driving for Uber or Lyft. I signed up to deliver for Postmates.

I told my husband after each application to prove I was trying. He hadn’t asked for proof. I wondered, "Would I be so generous if my husband were in the same position I was?"

I wasn’t sure.

I felt ashamed to feel the way I did and also ashamed to feel ashamed. I knew so many people who were also jobless but didn’t have the luxury of spouses to support them, let alone a spouse who was able to afford to support them. I had an incredible amount of luck and privilege, but mostly I was agonizing over how guilty it made me feel.

I wish I could say I had some grand epiphany. Instead, I reached out to some former clients and colleagues — another privilege — and started freelance writing. I still haven’t received my first paycheck — freelancing is delayed like that — but knowing I was working again provided near-instant relief. Shortly after I started writing, I was offered a temporary job that would allow me to contribute, if only briefly, to bills.

While I was working on this article, my husband was circling around me cleaning the house. I asked him how he felt about my moneyless-ness. “I don’t care. It’s an agreement we already had. I make enough money,” he told me.

I pressed him for more. “You seem happier,” he said, which is true despite my anxieties over what to do about a job. “If I could make less money and be happier I would.” I laughed. Then he kicked me out of the room so he could finish cleaning.

As of 2015, there were only 20 percent of married couples where the husband was primarily responsible for household income. I didn’t expect to be one of them, but for now, I am. Freelancing, particularly starting out, is not an especially reliable source of income. It's one of the least stable jobs I've pursued. It's also one of the only jobs that has made me feel a spark of ambition again.

More: 15 Jobs With Flexible Schedules for Busy Working Moms

By the time this is published, that temporary job will already be over, and until I find the next gig, my income is unlikely to provide much in the way of financial help. So I'll just have to learn to appreciate my husband's generosity.

One of This Surrogate Mom's ‘Twins’ Turned Out to Be Her Biological Child

Science makes a lot of remarkable things possible in the world of pregnancy — from single men becoming parents via IVF to at least three simultaneous Kardashian-Jenner babies-to-be. But none of us were prepared for this marvel of surrogacy science: While carrying a surrogate pregnancy for a Chinese couple, California mom Jessica Allen became pregnant with her own biological kid too.

Yep, one pregnancy, two totally unrelated "twins."

More: Perez Hilton Welcomes 3rd Child via Surrogate

“I didn’t even know I was pregnant with [my own bio baby],” Allen explained to ABC News. “I carried my own child, and I didn’t know he was mine.”

The process by which a fluke like this can happen is called superfetation, and it means that after Allen became pregnant with the couple's implanted embryo, she continued to ovulate. Thus, she was able to conceive and give birth to her biological son, all the while assuming he was one half of a split implanted embryo.

“The chance of an embryo splitting is very small, but it does happen,” Allen explained to ABC. “I was very surprised.”

The "twin" pregnancy went as planned, and Allen said goodbye to the babies shortly after their birth. It wasn't until she saw photos of them later in the year that she realized what must have happened.

More: Tear-Jerking Pregnancy Announcements from IVF Parents-to-Be

"One was much lighter than the other,” Allen, who is white, explained. She said it was obvious the babies "were not identical twins" from a split implanted embryo. One looked Asian like its parents; the other looked mixed-race, much like Allen's other kids with her husband Wardell Jasper, who is black.

After what Allen describes as an emotional court case, she and her husband were able to obtain custody of their biological child. We can only imagine how harrowing it must have been for the boy's quasi-adoptive parents to lose a child they had assumed was theirs, but it's clear Allen and her family are providing him with a home filled with love.

Allen told ABC they named the baby Malachi and that "[h]e’s just so smart, so intelligent. He’s learning fast. He’s got two big brothers to run after and learn from... We treasure Malachi with all our hearts.”

If you're a longtime Grey's Anatomy fan, you're undoubtedly tired of haters incredulously asking, "That show is still on?" Well, now you can not only tell them yes, but that Season 14 will be even longer than planned.

More: Test Your Grey's Anatomy Knowledge

That' right, super fans — ABC has extended Grey's by two episodes this season, bringing the season's total episodes up to 24. That means that by season's end, our favorite medical drama will have reached an impressive 317 episodes total.

Uh, what's that you said about the show not surviving, haters?

The veteran series has consistently pulled high viewership numbers in its 14th season, leading Thursday night primetime scripted television with nearly 8 million viewers.

More: Grey's Anatomy Fan Favorite Sara Ramirez Is Making Her Return to TV

Although the series has already seen a few cast and guest star exits this season, fans don't seem too fazed. And with future guest stars as well as a mid-season spin-off looming, Grey's could see numbers surge even more in the second half of the season.

Perhaps such solid ratings have put ABC in the holiday spirit early this year, because Grey's isn't the only series on ABC getting the extra-episodes treatment. Black-ish, which is in its fourth season, and American Housewife, which is in its first season, will also receive an additional two episodes each.

Per The Wrap, the network has also announced that Freeform's annual 25 Days of Christmas block will include all Disney/ABC Television Group channels this year — meaning fans of shows like American Housewife and Black-ish will get to enjoy holiday episodes.

And because all of this news has put us in the holiday spirit, here are a few early presents for you, dear readers: The Catch's Jay Hayden, Hamilton's Okieriete Onaodowan, Aquarius' Grey Damon and Too Close to Home's Danielle Savre.

All four of these rising stars have been cast to appear in the new Grey's firefighter spinoff. If that's not good tidings of great joy, we don't know what is.

Lindsey Sterling's Rib Injury Could Force Her to Quit DWTS

You can't win 'em all and, unfortunately for Lindsey Stirling, that old adage may turn out to be true much sooner than she'd hoped during her stint on Dancing with the Stars. As has been the curse of many past contestants, Stirling is in danger of being sidelined due to an injury.

More: 8 Predictions About Season 25 of DTWS

A violin-playing viral YouTube sensation, Stirling was an early frontrunner on Season 25. The fact that she was paired with fan favorite pro dancer Mark Ballas also bode well for the violin virtuoso.

However, according to People, Stirling may never see her dreams of a mirrorball trophy realized.

"She suffered a rib injury Sunday and was unable to rehearse," a source told the outlet. "She went to the hospital and they don't know if she'll be able to continue the competition."

More: Drew Scott Dropped Major Weight to Prep for DWTS

Stirling managed to make it through Monday night's competition, but the injury did not go unnoticed by the judges, who pointed out that pain was written all over Stirling's face. Still, it was undeniably impressive that she managed to pull off a Paso Doblé with a displaced rib — and receive a stellar score for it, too.

Stirling could hardly stand by the end of the routine, though. She persevered through the team dance performance later in the evening, but it was clear Stirling was struggling physically due to the injury.

More: 13 Dancing with the Stars Feuds We're Still Not Over

According to the rules of competition, Stirling would be forced to leave the show if the injury prevented her from participating in a performance. And for the driven star, that would be devastating.

"I'm going to be so mad if, like, I've blown it... we've worked so hard," she said in a video released by TMZ. "I push, push, push, all the time, that's how I've gotten where I'm at, but I'm just so afraid that I might have pushed too far."

House of Cards Is Ending, But a Spinoff Is Already in the Works

In light of alarming sexual assault allegations made against its star, Kevin Spacey, House of Cards is officially folding — Netflix made the announcement Monday that the popular series' upcoming sixth season will be its last. However, a House of Cards spinoff will take its place.

More: Is Kevin Spacey Using His Sexuality to Deflect Sexual Assault Allegations?

The spinoff is reportedly in the early stages of development, according to Variety. Although no specific characters or storyline are attached so far, Variety confirms that the new show will take place in the same universe as the original House of Cards.

Since Netflix and Media Rights Capital decided to end House of Cards after it sixth season due to the troubling nature of Spacey's alleged actions, it's only logical that Frank Underwood will not have a role in the spinoff. That doesn't mean that his wife, Claire, would be out of the picture, though.

Spokespeople for both Netflix and Media Rights Capital declined to comment, but the internet is here for a spinoff with Robin Wright (aka Claire Underwood) at the helm.

Clearly, House of Cards fans feel the phenomenally talented Wright deserves to take over as Madam President.

Alas, there is reportedly another potential focus brewing for the spinoff — one which would revolve around Doug Stamper, the political aide who did much of Frank's dirty work in the first five seasons. Eli Roth is reportedly in talks to write the series from this particular slant.

Since the spinoff is rumored to be in such an early stage of development, it's impossible to know at this point which path producers will choose. What is certain, though, is that Spacey (and hence Frank) will not figure into the new series.

A Bachelorette Producer Brings Forward New Claims of Sexual Harassment

A female Bachelorette producer has come forward with new allegations of sexual misconduct on the set of The Bachelorette. The producer, Becky Steenhoek, has already filed paperwork stating her claims to a Los Angeles court. In the documents, obtained by E! News, Steenhoek details a laundry list of allegations about the sexually explicit questions she was asked by other Bachelorette producers and the sexual misconduct she experienced while filming. The incidents reportedly happened while Steenhoek was working on the set of JoJo Fletcher's season of The Bachelorette. Be forewarned, some of the following details about Steenhoek's allegations are quite graphic.

More: There's Still Hope Peter Kraus Could Be the Bachelor One Day

Steenhoek's claims include the disturbing allegation that she was asked questions about her sex life and invasive questions about her personal grooming habits by executives and other producers on set. This apparently included explicit questions like, "Is your vagina shaved?", "Have you ever sat under a shower faucet or touched yourself to masturbate?", and "Have you ever fondled [testicles] before?" — all questions anyone would immediately note as deeply inappropriate questions in a workplace setting.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Steenhoek makes it clear that this apparent line of questioning became a thing on set. Once other producers had seen that it made her uncomfortable (and understandably so), Steenhoek claims she would be consistently asked those questions in order to get tripped up or made to blush. "You could visibly tell it was very uncomfortable to me to witness, just because they did make comments like, 'Oh, Becky's blushing,' or 'Her ears are probably burning.' It was a bit of a theme that carried on throughout the season [...] it was a fun time for them to see me get embarrassed," she told the newspaper.

Steenhoek was let go from her role at The Bachelorette and she believes it was because she brought these concerns to those in charge. For example, when she told a cast producer about what had been said, she was told that it was "locker room talk" (a phrase we are not at all unfamiliar with in cases like this). Additionally, Steenhoek believes that she was fired for her "morals," the thing that apparently contributed to her being hired. "When I was hired for the job, the reason they told me I was being hired because I did have the morals and they felt I was a good person. And then here I am being fired because of that reason."

Warner Bros. issued the following statement about Steenhoek's claims: "We take all allegations of workplace harassment very seriously. These allegations were brought to our attention and were thoroughly investigated earlier this year. Our findings did not support the plaintiff's characterization of the events claimed to have taken place, which is why we are disappointed by the filing of this lawsuit."

This is certainly not the first sexual misconduct scandal that has hit a Bachelor franchise in 2017, nor is it the first set of allegations of sexual assault brought forward by a woman working in the entertainment industry in recent memory; that does not mean it's not troubling and it certainly means that the entirety of the Bachelor group of shows may need to do some soul-searching in regards to their culture on set if there is indeed any truth to these allegations.

These Are America's Weirdest Injuries

$

While injuries from car accidents and playground falls are relatively common, it turns out that Americans can be pretty, well, creative when it comes to getting hurt. From encounters with fish (yes, really) to walking into walls, we've got the 411 on some of the strangest injuries you'll hopefully never experience.

Unusual injuries

The health care transparency company Amino pored through health care claims in their database representing more than 220 million Americans to see what unique physical injuries popped up. While getting bitten by a dog is not too wacky (they note 162,000 instances), there are plenty of painful wounds that might fall under the "uncommon" category. Here's a roundup of some of the more unusual injuries experienced by residents of the good ol' USA. Try not to cringe.

  • Bitten by cat: 55,100 (notably less common that dog bites)
  • Walked into furniture: 25,500
  • Walked into a wall: 17,200
  • Cat scratch: 15,200
  • Accidentally bitten by human: 10,600
  • Contact with workbench tool: 8.900
  • Accidentally kicked by human: 8,700
  • Contact with garden power tool or hand tool: 8,300
  • Contact with scissors: 4,900
  • Contact with sewing needle: 4,400
  • Lid of can entering through skin: 3,700
  • Struck by horse: 3,500
  • Contact with power mower: 3,400
  • Contact with nail gun: 2,200
  • Accidentally scratched by human: 1,800
  • Struck by cow: 1,700
  • Ring too tight: 1,700
  • Bitten by rat: 1,400
  • Crushed, pushed or stepped on by crowd or human stampede: 1,300
  • Bitten by squirrel: 900
  • Bitten by mouse: 900
  • Bitten by horse: 700
  • Bitten by raccoon: 600
  • Contact with paper cutter: 400

Sports-related injuries

In addition to all of these animal misadventures, walking into things and being accidentally injured by our fellow humans (and don't forget the paper cutter... eek!), there are a few other categories for us to consider. How about sportsball? Interestingly, the numbers vary based on season — so right now is the prime time to get injured by a football. Let's take a look.

  • Struck by basketball: 14,800
  • Struck by baseball: 13,400
  • Struck by soccer ball: 11,300
  • Striking against or by other sports equipment: 10,900
  • Struck by football: 10,500
  • Struck by softball: 8.300
  • Striking against or struck by football helmet: 5,100
  • Struck by hit or thrown ball: 4,100
  • Struck by volleyball: 3,500
  • Struck by skate blades: 200

Weapon-related injuries

Then we have a slew of injuries caused by accidental discharge of weapons, including:

  • Accidental discharge from unspecified firearm: 20,600
  • Accidental handgun discharge: 1,500
  • Accidental discharge of shotgun: 600
  • Accidental discharge of hunting rifle: 200
  • Accidental discharge of machine gun:

While no injury is amusing, particularly a serious one (yes, even being pecked by a turkey can be traumatizing), it's nonetheless interesting to see all the trouble we can get into just by walking around our house, wearing rings, hanging out in the great outdoors, playing sports and being around firearms.

How to Pick the Best Dress for Your Body Type (Because, Yes, It Matters)

How to Pick the Best Dress for Your Body Type

In theory, dress shopping is a breeze. You walk into a store (or visit a website), pick a dress that has a gorgeous color or pattern that appeals to you, find your size and waltz out the door. If only it were the easy. The truth is, finding a dress that was practically made for you is all about embracing your body type and celebrating your favorite features.

And for a lot of us, that's not always so easy.

"There are two myths you must know when it comes to our bodies: One, there's no perfect size, and two, there's no perfect body," says Dr. Carol Parker Walsh of Vancouver, Washington, who has a PhD in human development and social psychology and is the stylist and owner behind Evolve Image Consulting. "Hopefully, this comes as no surprise, but more than not, I'm often dealing with clients who have a love, but mostly hate, relationship with their bodies. Why? Because of the never-ending challenge to find something that fits or the constant comparison with others. The key is to overcome this is to first learn to love and accept your body as-is and to learn how to dress your body appropriately for fit and balance."

For pear-shaped women with full hips and thighs, the dress should shouldn't be shorter than an inch or two above the knee. Select a dress with an A-line skirt but not something too full. A short, super fuller dress will look like a tu-tu.

You'll know you're a pear if "you often wear a different size on the bottom than you do on top," Dr. Walsh says. "Add width to your top with horizontal stripes and bright bold colors, while keeping the lower half in dark colors. You'll find a better fit if you go for two pieces as opposed to a one-piece dress."

Full waist

If you are apple-shaped with a thick middle, you may want to elongate the appearance of your torso and draw the attention away from your waist. Select a dress with an empire or drop waist to re-define your waist line. Avoid thick belts cinched around your midsection and instead choose a chain or sash belt slung low on your hips.

"Consider emphasizing your shoulders. Creating the illusion of more width in this area will make everything below it appear more narrow. Don’t rely on padding for this (too much bulk). Instead, wear a structured jacket (ending mid-hip) to accentuate shoulders or wear dresses that cover the shoulders (cap-sleeves are great) and have enough detailing, such as a bit of puffiness or blousing, to visually balance your hip-to-shoulder ratio without adding mass," says Constance Dunn, style expert and author of Practical Glamour.

To minimize fuller arms, sleeveless and cap-sleeve dresses are best avoided. Instead, select billowy, bell sleeves that are three-quarters or even full-length to flatter your upper body.

Next Up: Small bust

If you weren't endowed with ample breasts, avoid deep plunging necklines. Instead, select dresses with a scoop or bandeau neck and sequins or other adornments to add a little dimension up top. Layered necklaces are very popular right now and they can add some dimension and depth to your bust.

To draw some attention away from your bust and balance out a smaller lower body, choose a dress with an A-line skirt that falls one or two inches above your knees.

Slim

Sweater or knit dresses are terrific options for thinner women. You can add layers to your dress, such as a cardigan or fitted jacket to give you some bulk. You can also add a thick belt to give your waist more definition. Bubble dresses are very trendy right now and can also give the appearance of a larger lower body.

For slim gals who are lean, lack curves and often have a more athletic build, Dr. Walsh recommends, "Add curves through ruffles, peplums and curvaceous patterns on your lower half."

The shift dress

Jordana Brewster dress
Image: Getty Images Entertainment

The shift is a dress, flattering on almost everyone, that hangs straight down from the shoulder. It skims your body nicely, but doesn't cling. For summer, you can find shifts in cool cotton, linen and light knits. When fall arrives, wool and heavier knit shifts will continue to be popular. Though the typical shift dress has a straight skirt, some fashion designers have created stylish shifts with a slightly A-line cut.

Dunn says, "Whether your legs are skinny, thicker or just right, there is always the question of proportion throughout the leg line. The most common imbalance in a woman’s legs is a disproportion between above the knee and below the knee. Here a woman’s upper leg (waist and thighs) will often look thick in comparison to their lower legs (calves). In this scenario, the best skirt and dress length rests at the top to the middle of the kneecap."

Whatever your body type, you can find a beautiful dress that will flatter your figure. Dr. Walsh says, "Learning your body type will help you select the right clothes to create a balanced, and when needed, curvy silhouette. You'll save time shopping and hours of frustrated moments trying to decide what to wear. Regardless of which category you find yourself, the key is to love you and let someone like me handle the rest!"

Remember to accentuate the positive and don't obsess with the negative. If you dress with confidence, you'll look and feel beautiful too.

A Witch's Tips on Crystals for Moms

Disclaimer: The tips below are from our favorite witch, not a medical doctor, and they should not be considered a substitute for any medical or otherwise scientific guidance. But we do know at least one doctor with quartz bookends, so maybe that says something?

Crystals are an amazing — and downright beautiful — tool from the Earth that are said to help us ground, center and even manifest intentions. As a reiki master and tarot reader (aka all-around witch) and a new mom, I use crystals in my day-to-day life in many different ways — and so can you. They're pretty easy to find and buy, and they don't need to be expensive; very small crystals can do the job just great.

Here are a few tips for parents on how to work with crystals and incorporate these healing beauties into your everyday life.

Find your stones

When you're starting out, take your time to shop around for your crystals. They come in many different colors, shapes and sizes, so you've got options for sure. Most often, the crystals you feel drawn to aesthetically are the ones that possess the energy you need. Enthralled by jade? In love with labradorite? Crazy about Pantone's 2016 rose quartz pink? Maybe you or your family need what that stone is bringing.

Trust that you are attracted to it for a reason — even if you don’t know what it is yet. If you are shopping in person (which I highly recommend), take the time to hold several different crystals in your hands; feel their energy and how it affects you.

Cleanse your crystals

Once you've found your stones, it's helpful to cleanse them. This allows you to “reset” their energy from any previous users — or people who pawed them in the crystal shop — and then set your own personal intentions for working with them.

You can cleanse your stones using salt (placing them in a dry bowl of sea salt crystals or in a bath with Epsom salt), by "smudging" them (using sage, cedar, palo santo or any cleansing herbs) or by setting them in sunlight or moonlight for a few hours. This clears away the energy of earlier use and should be done periodically as you work with the crystals.

Set your intention

Setting a clear intention when working with a stone is a great way to manifest your vision — aka nudge what you hope will happen toward fruition. But it’s important to remember that gemstones aren't cures; we can't rely on them to “magically” shift our lives or those of our kids, especially not without being clear about what we want. What we can do is use them to help us shift our energy, become more grounded and check in with our own intuition as parents.

Which crystals are good for parents & when?

Amethyst for nap-time meditation: I know baby's nap time can often feel like a mad rush to do all the things that need attention (dishes, laundry, etc.) but a quick five- to 10-minute meditation can make a huge difference for parents, especially on those days when you're feeling anxious or overwhelmed. Amethyst is a amazing stone to use in meditation, as it's said to promote mental clarity (heard of "mom brain"?), help deepen our intuition and allow us to widen our perspective.

Rose quartz for baby bath time: My favorite way to wind down after putting my daughter to bed is with a hot bath with crystals, and you can easily use crystals with your littles in the tub too (keeping safety in mind, of course). Adding gemstones to bath water is a great way you and your kiddos can receive their healing effects. My favorite bath-time stone is rose quartz, which is said to promote balance in the heart chakra and help us cultivate feelings of love toward ourselves and in relationships. This stone has a cooling, calming energy that works gently to help the user attune to compassion and empathy.

Black tourmaline for elusive sleep: Sleep is a hot commodity in my house and for many new parents. I like to use crystals to help promote a feeling of peace and relaxation before bed and while my daughter and I sleep; I put small stones under my pillow (not hers!) or place larger ones on my nightstand or my daughter's dresser. Black tourmaline is a grounding and protective stone that is said to repel and transmute negative energy. It helps to ease tension and anxiety — this is one of my favorite stones to work with.

Clear quartz for hydration: Let’s face it. Some days, there is just no time for meditating and luxurious baths, and you’re lucky if you can just survive the day and get the littles fed and do what you need to do. But even if you can't manage anything extra in terms of self-care, you still need to drink water (especially if you're breastfeeding). On days like these, you can get the benefits of your favorite gemstones in that very drinking water.

Clear quartz is often recognized as the “stone of power” for its natural tendency to harmonize and align human energies, thoughts, emotions and consciousness. This is a great all-purpose stone that I love to put in drinking water for all-around good vibes. Just make sure you use a large piece and/or a water bottle with filter, to avoid any possible choking hazard. And while crystal-infused water is safe for kids, make sure to use one large quartz and remove it completely before sharing the water.

Home decor for energy: Crystals are a great way to add some extra energy to your home. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but you can position them strategically to bring specific energies into different areas of your home. I love to use selenite near the doors and windows of our home to evoke protection and dispel negative energy. Rose quartz is great in the bedroom to bring the energy of love, and I keep amethyst in my daughter’s room — out of her reach, or course — for its calming and relaxing effects.

There are so many amazing ways to use crystals, so feel free to get creative and do what feels good and right for you. There is no wrong way to use these gems — other than, you know, putting small ones where your baby could grab them. Other than that, trust your intuition and have fun.

Seeing Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, might raise some questions about their relationship. In public, they have been famously stoic for as long as anyone can remember, rarely showing each other any affection. It's definitely been the cause of rumors about the couple, who have been married since 2005.

But they broke their rule Monday, engaging in a rare show of public affection when they shared a kiss in Singapore. Charles and Camilla are in the country for their annual Autumn Tour of India and Southeast Asia, and they traveled separately to Singapore, as Camilla was going straight there from a holiday she took without Charles. When they were reunited, they were photographed kissing for only the second time in their entire 11-year marriage.

The first time happened at a polo match in 2005 just a few months after they tied the knot. So, yeah, when we said this is rare for them, we really meant it.

But these two have been raising questions with their long, off-and-on relationship for year. They first dated right after they met in 1971, breaking up after two years. However, they were on-again, off-again for literal decades despite the fact that they both married other people. They both got divorced in 1996, and it wasn't long before they were dating again. Just, you know, without any PDA. They finally got married in 2005.

Candy varieties may come and go, but there’ll always be certain classics we expect never to change.

And while we don’t want to change a good thing, sometimes we have to acknowledge it could get even better. Reese's has announced they will be launching a wondrous creation they are calling Reese's Outrageous Bars as early as May 2018.

MoreReese's Peanut Butter Cups-stuffed cookies

The candy bar is basically what you would expect from a Reese's Cup as far as texture and flavor, but instead of a cup, it’s a bar. That’s not all, though. The peanut butter filling is covered in a layer of caramel, and then the coating is covered in mini Reese's Pieces.

What? It is like levels of perfection, right?

The candy bar will enter our lives in spring of next year, but samples already made their way to Royal Oak, Michigan, in honor of the town’s Spooktacular Halloween activities. We’re jealous, but will patiently wait for our day to come.

Pink's Post-Breast-Pumping Plans Are So Relatable — & Totally Safe, BTW

For many moms, "Netflix and chill" also means "final breast-pump session of the day plus a glass of wine squeezed in while baby's (finally) sleeping." And Pink's recent Instagram post shows us that — as ever — she's really living her best mom life.

Pink pump

Pink pump

If you can't quite tell, the photo shows Pink strapped into a hands-free pumping bra — pretty chic look, actually — rejoicing with a ready-to-be-uncorked bottle of wine. The caption? "When you're almost done pumping and you know what's next."

Pink is the queen of keeping it real when it comes to motherhood, and we make no apologies for adoring her for it. And for the record, having a drink is completely safe for breastfeeding parentsif you pay smart attention to the timing, that is, like Pink.

More: Do You Really Have to "Pump and Dump" While Nursing If You Drink Alcohol?

Sure, drinking while pregnant is a don't in most circles. And when your baby arrives, it's important to know that alcohol does make its way into your breast milk — and that infants need twice as long as moms do to metabolize that alcohol. That said, science has your wine-loving postpartum back. According to the Motherisk program at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, the average 140-pound woman needs four to five hours for her body to process and clear two 5-ounce glasses of wine. So simply pump like Pink — before that nightcap at 8 p.m. — and then wait until after midnight or 1 a.m. to nurse or pump again. Easy.

Some more science fun for frazzled nursing parents: The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests "no more than 0.5 g alcohol per kg body weight, which for a 60 kg [132 lb] mother is approximately 2 oz liquor, 8 oz wine, or 2 beers." Not too shabby, science.

Now, are all these numbers exact? Nope. So if you're the cautious type, feel free to abstain. But if you're already a clock-watcher like Pink, you — and baby — will likely be just fine.

This Kid From Stranger Things Has a Kid, & We Had No Idea

So Jonathan Byers is a dad now. What? That is, British actor Charlie Heaton, who plays Jonathan on '80s-tastic Netflix masterpiece Stranger Things, is reportedly a dad in real life. Did you know about this?!

More: Here's Our Stranger Things' Drinking Game

Recently, publications including Teen Vogue and Us Weekly have reported that, according to an anonymous source close to Heaton and his ex-girlfriend, Akiko Matsuura, the two allegedly have a son together.

Of course, we've loved Heaton's mysterious, shaggy-haired big-brother character since Stranger Things premiered in July 2016, and given Jonathan's fatherly care of little bro Will — especially in Season 2 — it's not too tough to picture Heaton as a papa.

Last we heard of Heaton, though, he had missed the Stranger Things 2 premiere after being detained at LAX because of trace amounts of cocaine in his luggage. Heaton was sent back to the U.K. and released this statement:

“My planned travel to the U.S. last week was affected by an issue at U.S. immigration, and I am working to rectify it as soon as possible. I do want to clarify that I was not arrested or charged with a crime, and cooperated fully with the U.S. officials at LAX. I’m sorry to all the fans and my Stranger Things family for missing the premiere. We are all so proud of this season and I would never want this story to negatively impact the show.”

Whether this baby (toddler, actually) news is putting a positive spin on the Heaton chronicles is still up for debate. The Daily Mail reports that Heaton and Matsuura met when they were 20 and were in a band together (because of course they were). Their band, Comanechi, was still rocking when Matsuura reportedly became pregnant in 2014.

More: The Stranger Things Kids Don't Look Like Kids Anymore

Matsuura now allegedly has custody of their 3-year-old boy in London, where she performs as part of the band The Big Pink. No details on the reported parents' split, but Heaton has been recently romantically linked to ST costar Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy Wheeler.

An unnamed source reported to the The Sun that "Charlie became a dad when he was just 20. He met Akiko when he was just a teen and fell head-over-heels in love... They're no longer together but they have an amicable relationship for the boy's sake... Right now Charlie's career is his priority but he hopes to see more of his son once filming commitments calm down."

As with so many celeb baby rumors, Heaton and Matsuura have not commented on this speculation publicly, so do take it with a grain of salt. Much like with all things Stranger Things, we may know a lot less here than we think we do. And speaking of, we'll head back to binge-watching now. Excuse us.

Double the praise hands if that glimpse into the real lives of a reality star includes a sweet, sappy birthday message to a significant other, because TBH, we're huge suckers for those, too. Lisa Rinna, one of the longest running stars of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, just hit both of those criteria with a birthday post she made on Instagram for her husband, Harry Hamlin's 66th birthday.

On Monday, Rinna posted a series of throwback pics of her Mad Men actor hubby on the site. In one, he has delightfully huge '80s hair and he's puffing on a cigar. Alongside it, she wrote, "Happy Birthday Harry Hamlin! Love of my Life. [heart] Man of my dreams. I’d be lost without you baby."

Simon Cowell Gives Health Update After Being Rushed to the Hospital

Updated Oct. 31, 9:30 a.m. PT: Simon Cowell is OK! Days after he was rushed to the hospital, he shared a health update with fans.

"I’d gone to get some hot milk because I felt ropey. On the way back upstairs, I just remember feeling really dizzy," he explained. "Next thing I know someone was putting a neck brace on me and I had a terrible headache, which must have been from me hitting the stairs. I was worried at first that I’d done some real damage."

Cowell said the incident was a wakeup call that he needed to take better care of himself.

"Sometimes we get a reminder that we’re not invincible and this was certainly mine. It was a huge shock," he said. "They think I fainted because I had low blood pressure and so I have got to really take good care of myself to sort that out. After all I am a dad and have more responsibility than ever."

He continued, "I’m on the mend now. I know I was very lucky I didn’t hurt myself seriously. It could have been a lot worse. I must say, everyone at the hospital were incredible. I’m truly grateful."

We're just really glad our favorite curmudgeonly judge is doing OK.

Original story:

Former American Idol bad guy Simon Cowell is recovering at home after a scary fall caused him to be rushed to the hospital early this morning. Reports say that Cowell looked "dazed" when he returned home to his London mansion about eight hours later and spoke to paparazzi outside the house.

According to The Daily Mail, Cowell was getting a hot cup of milk to help him fall asleep around 7:30 a.m. when it happened. The first live X-Factor show of the season was set to broadcast the next day, and Cowell admitted to reporters that he may have to miss it.

"I will be back but I don't know about tomorrow," he said.

Cowell's partner, Lauren, was in New York at the time with their son, Eric, but reports say she was flying back as soon as she could to be with him. Cowell didn't say anything about what caused him to pass out, but in 2012, he collapsed from stress and exhaustion from his full slate of TV shows and other engagements.

Cowell was also ill several times over the summer. In June, Lauren had to take over for him as host of a fundraising event he organized because he was in bed with the flu. In July, he missed part of X-Factor's live auditions because he was bedridden by an illness that he never identified.

Hart posted a photo of the cast on stage together during a Los Angeles Comic Con reunion to promote the CW's sort-of revival, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The new show is meant to be a companion to Riverdale, and while it will take place in the Sabrina universe, it will be a much darker spin on the '90s comedy.

Hart was joined onstage by Nate Richert, Caroline Rhea, Beth Broderick, Soleil Moon Frye, David Lascher, Elisa Donovan and Nick Bakay, who played Harvey, Aunt Hilda, Aunt Zelda, Roxie, Josh, Morgan and the voice of Salem the cat, respectively. While some of them look like they haven't aged a day (lookin' at you, Aunt Hilda!), others are basically unrecognizable (like Harvey, OMG).

During the appearance, Hart talked a little bit about what viewers can expect from the new version of Sabrina, and, spoiler alert, it's nothing like the show we grew up watching.

"They’re doing Sabrina without us," she said. "They’re doing, like, a teen soapy version, like a drama version. Ours was obviously a comedy. It was like a light comedy about magic. There is going to be more witchcraft [in the new one] ... [More like] Charmed or Buffy, maybe."
