Tarek & Christina El Moussa Get the Last Word in Bitter Lawsuit

There's good news for Tarek and Christina El Moussa, who are facing a hefty federal lawsuit. They have until June 26 to answer claims that an ex-employee of theirs made about unpaid wages and commissions.

More: The Truth About the Feud Between Property Brothers & Fixer Upper Stars

Jonathan Schmier says he approached the El Moussas' real estate company Next Level Property Investments back in January 2016 and was told that he would be paid a commission of $5,000 each for finding wholesale homes for the Flip or Flop duo to renovate on their HGTV series. He says he officially started work in March, but stopped in October when he was told that he was "never an employee" of the company.

At the time Schmier was under the impression he was finding homes for the El Moussas, he said he found five and that they never paid him the $25,000 he was owed in commission. Under California minimum wage law, he's suing for an addition $12,800 he says he's entitled to in back wages.

When he filed the federal lawsuit last month, Schmier was flat broke — he had negative $124 in his bank account according to Radar Online.

According to court papers, Schmier tried to settle the issue by going to Next Level Property Investments' operating manager, Pete De Best, as well as straight to the El Moussas, but he claims they "have blocked [his] e-mail address and face book [sic] pages and phone numbers in an attempt to avoid paying."

Now, the El Moussas have their chance to respond to Schmier's claims before the lawsuit moves forward. This is just the latest in a long string of scandals to hit HGTV stars, including several lawsuits.

A Cure for Food Allergies May Be on the Horizon

$

For those with severe food allergies, even everyday tasks like going to the store and riding the bus can be terrifying since there's a risk of being exposed to the allergens that will cause a reaction. While not much is known about the cause of food allergies, there's been some progress in treating them, and one doctor at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia was recently able to cure a child of egg allergies thanks to a surprisingly simple technique.

More: Do kids with food allergies inconvenience "normal" kids?

Fifteen-year-old Isaac Keiser, the patient, suffered from an egg allergy so severe he couldn't even eat at restaurants that cooked eggs in any of their dishes because of fears of cross-contamination. His allergic reaction to eggs was serious. He'd break out in hives, vomit and have trouble breathing. But Dr. Jonathan Spergel was able to cure him using exposure therapy under the careful watch of his medical team.

More: My husband has a nightshade allergy — here's what that really means

Basically, the doctors slowly introduced eggs to Isaac's diet, having him eat a tiny bit each day. Most allergic reactions happen because the body's immune system overreacts to exposure to certain elements (in this case, eggs). So by slowly introducing eggs to his diet, Isaac desensitized his immune system to those triggers. Of course, this is only safe to do under the care of a doctor or medical team, as the risks could still be dangerous.

More: 10 Allergy Hacks to Help You Survive Spring

The technique somewhat resembles allergen immunotherapy, a form of allergy treatment involving a long-term course of shots that introduce miniscule doses of allergens to the immune system, desensitizing it to those triggers. But immunotherapy has traditionally only been used to treat environmental allergies, bug bites or asthma — not food allergies.

If Isaac's case is any indication, there may be more hope on the horizon for other sufferers of food allergies. Hooray!

Bachelor in Paradise Releases Full Cast List & Guys, DeMario Is Going

ABC just dished out some news so juicy it makes us want to track down Chris Harrison and gobble him up. The scoop? The reveal of the men and women vying for each other's hearts (or whatever) in Mexico on this season's Bachelor in Paradise.

Judging by the fact DeMario made the cut, it seems safe to say some unfortunate soul — or souls — may suffer from an acute case of heartburn during the romantic vacay. Here's hoping it's one of the actual contestants and not another surprise spurned lover.

More: 2017 Is Already Oh, So Good — a Bachelor in Paradise Wedding Is Coming

But, hey, in DeMario's defense, it's highly unlikely he'll be the only one breaking hearts and taking names.

Arch-enemies Taylor Nolan and Corinne Olympios from Nick's season will both be in attendance, so we all know that's going nowhere good fast. Still, can we go ahead and be excited that guilty pleasure Corinne will be there making cheese pasta and taking day naps?

Jasmine Goode, also from Nick's season, will be on hand as well. A fan favorite, her outspoken personality could certainly lend itself to cabana-side conflict.

More: The Bachelor in Paradise Couple You Never Understood Finally Called It Quits

And who could possibly forget proud Marine Alex Woytkiw from JoJo's season? Although he could be endearing at times, he also came off as loud and aggressive. Let's go ahead and count on him butting heads with at least one of the other dudes on deck.

Also among this year's participants are a few true stand-outs from Bachelor and Bachelorette seasons past — like, for starters, Raven Gates from Nick's season! Since we couldn't have both Raven and Rachel as our current Bachelorette, this is the next best thing.

Back once more is the always beautiful Amanda Stanton, who left Paradise last season with a rock on her finger from controversial former Bachelor Josh Murray. The breakup has been contentious, to say the least, so Stanton could use a little R&R. A hunky shoulder to cry on might help, too.

More: The Bachelor's Amanda Stanton Is Officially Ditching Josh & Heading to Paradise

We also can't wait to see what's in store for super-sweet ladies Danielle Maltby and Kristina Schulman from Nick's season, both of who memorably got caught off-guard when Nick sent them packing outside of rose ceremonies in the same week.

Could one of them find the romance they deserve with dear, precious-hearted and incredibly handsome personal trainer Ben Zorn from Kaitlyn's season? Fingers crossed for a love connection there.

Rounding out the cast will be Alexis Waters (dolphin suit TBD) and Lacey Mark from Nick's season, along with Derek Peth, "St. Nick" Benvenutti, Robby Hayes and Vinny Ventiera from JoJo's season.

So buckle up, Bachelor Nation... it's bound to be a bumpy ride.

Carrie Underwood's Living Her Best Life at Stanley Cup Finals

Country legend Tammy Wynette timelessly sang about standing by your man, and we're thinking Carrie Underwood took those twangy words to heart. She didn't just show up for hubby Mike Fisher as he plays in the Stanley Cup — she took the stadium by storm as his No. 1 fan and has been YOLO'ing her way through the week.

More: Not All NHL Wives Are Created Equal When Carrie Underwood Is In Attendance

Seriously, if you haven't been following her Insta posts, you're missing out on a serious third-hand happiness buzz.

It all started on May 28, when Underwood made it clear she was headed to Nashville to cheer her Team Captain hubby on during the championship games. Chic yet sporty stack of luggage in Fisher's Nashville Predators blue? Check!

The week was made all the more special on Monday night, which marked the hub's birthday. Underwood posted a special (and, OK, kinda cheesy but in the best way possible) post to gush about her hockey stud.

Prepare to feel all the feels, people. No, seriously — like, stop what you are doing and find a place where you can quietly muffle your sobs (or, at the very least, your irrepressible urge to loudly exclaim, "Awwww!"). The video Ariana Grande just shared of a baby crying to her One Love performance will straight up yank on your heart strings.

More: Here's the Most Emotional Performance from Ariana Grande's Benefit Concert

Although we're not privy to who this precious child is or belongs to, we do know one thing: this tiny fan is probably the sweetest thing we'll see all week.

Ariana Grande Teary Tot

Ariana Grande Teary Tot

And by sweetest, we clearly mean adorable-in-a-way-that-will-make-your-ovaries-hurt. I mean, good gracious, if you can watch this child try to sing along with Ariana Grande to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" while big, fat baby tears roll down her cheeks, your heart is clearly made of unfeeling steel.

More: The Most Powerful Speeches from Ariana Grande's One Love Manchester Concert

Perhaps the baby could sense all of the emotion grande poured into the performance. The benefit concert was held on behalf of those affected by the bombing outside of her Manchester Arena concert on May 22, during which 22 people were killed and 116 injured.

Grande's One Love Manchester concert raised more than $13 million for the corresponding Red Cross fund.

The baby in this video must be an empathetic little soul, and the world obviously needs as many of those as we can get right now. So, ttyl, signing off to go watch this video 1,000 more times, ugly cry and remember that there's hope for humanity yet.

4 Places to Find Other Child-Free Women

$

0

If you’re child-free, you know that finding other child-free people can be hard. You might know folks who don’t have kids, but you might not necessarily know if it’s on purpose or if the person has been struggling with infertility for years.

With “Why don’t you have children?” being such a loaded (and terrible) question, there has to be a better way of finding other child-free humans. Fortunately, visible and robust child-free communities exist, and it’s getting easier to find them.

Here are four resources targeted at us child-free people.

More: I'm Childless, But Your Child's Education Still Matters to Me

Tie My Tubes: A Radio Documentary Series

Tie My Tubes was created by Brie Ripley, a child-free woman in search a tubal ligation who’s often told that she’ll regret it when she’s older. In the first episode of Tie My Tubes, called “A Double Slap in the Face,” Ripley, who was 22 when she began looking for a doctor to permanently sterilize her, records a conversation with a doctor she asks to tie her tubes and also tackles the racist history of forced sterilization of women of color and the irony of women who do want to be sterilized, but can’t find a doctor willing to do it.

The second episode of Tie My Tubes is forthcoming, but in the meantime, check out the project’s Facebook page for updates and resources.

Mater Mea

Mater Mea is a website and a podcast about black professional women and motherhood. In Episode 6 of the podcast, “I Ain’t Birthin’ No Babies,” host Anthonia Akitunde talks to Shauna Stewart and Lelita Cannon, two child-free black women, about their decision not to have kids and what it’s like to be a child-free woman of color.

“I Ain’t Birthin’ No Babies” is a super-important listen. It reminds us that race, class, ethnicity, sexuality and other identities, as well as these identities in a historical context, impact the experience of being child-free.

"We have this image of the black family that we’ve been holding onto for so long,” says Stewart. “There was a point in time when we weren’t even allowed to get married, and now we can get married, now we can have kids, but we forget that there are segments of the black population who don’t want to have kids, and we don’t make room for them.”

More: Child-free people are sick of being judged for their choices

We’re {Not} Having a Baby

We’re {Not} Having a Baby is an online community for child-free people. Amy and Lance Blackstone have been married and child-free for more than 20 years (they got married in 1995). According to Amy, they created the community, which includes a blogresearch about the child-free (Amy is a sociologist who studies it), stories from other child-free folks and more, because “we wanted a place to celebrate our choice, find camaraderie with other child-free people and bust myths — based on social science knowledge — about what people think they know about who makes the choice and why.”

If you recognize Amy and Lance’s desire to find a child-free community that reflects a diversity of experiences and motivations, this is definitely the place for you. It is difficult and frustrating to feel like you’re the only one, and frequently as child-free folks, we do. W{N}AB is here to connect us to one another, making us feel a little less alone.

My So-Called Selfish Life

Therese Shechter makes films that disturb what we’ve come to believe is sacred. Her documentary How to Lose Your Virginity interrogates the very notions of virginity and sexual purity and how our collective obsession with it screws up our sex lives.

In My So-Called Selfish Lifeher latest work in progress, Shechter talks to women across the reproductive spectrum who, like her, are child-free. Among her questions: Are we selfish for not having kids? What does selfish even mean? Will society ever accept a woman’s decision not to have kids? Could our other accomplishments possibly matter as much as having a baby would?

“I want women, especially young women, to know they have a choice on whether or not to become a mother,” said Shechter. “This film is going to look at the ways in which our society should be affirming that choice, from the conversations we have with our families to how we’re depicted in popular culture to gaining our full reproductive rights.”

Visit the My So-Called Selfish Life’s website to tell your own story of being child-free, learn how you can support the project, find resources and connect on Facebook.

It's indeed been a rollercoaster year for the Australian actor, who not only starred in the massive hit HBO show, but recently returned from the Cannes Film festival where she was involved with four projects (three films and one television show) that premiered there. She's a busy bee right now and she's not letting her age get the better of her.

Oh, those Duggars. It's just a matter of time before they take over the U.S. and everyone is a Duggar. That's our prediction, and you heard it here first, people.

Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard are so excited for baby No. 2, they couldn't wait to share the baby's name on social media.

Nope, the baby is not here yet, but his name is: Samuel Scott Dillard.

More: Fans are nudging Jill Duggar to have Baby No. 2

The couple shared the news with lots of exclamation marks on their personal website on June 6.

"We are so excited to announce the name of Baby Dillard #2! Samuel Scott Dillard," they wrote. "We can't wait to welcome him to the world and have him join our family very soon!"

When's the little guy supposed to arrive? Well, in a previous statement to People, the couple said they’re due in July and can't wait to give firstborn son Israel, 2, a brand-new sibling. (No comment from Israel as to whether or not he actually asked for a sibling.)

Which Duggars are these? It's OK, there are at least 45 million of them. You're allowed to be confused. We can refresh your memory: Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard are the ones who were doing missionary work in Central America, but recently moved home after the internet blew up worrying about Duggar catching the mosquito-borne Zika virus.

More: Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard fear their lives are at risk

We're thinking they won't stop with Baby No. 2 — no how, no way.

"Both of us want as many kids as God will give us," Duggar told ABC in 2014. "My parents have kept popping them out so we’ll see how [our] fertility is! We’ll just see what God brings along and it’s exciting."

We told you. It's just a matter of time before the Duggar line crisscrosses yours on Ancestry.com. Start studying your Duggars!

Meet CosDNA, a Website That Tells You Whether or Not Beauty Products Will Break You Out

$
0
0

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could definitively know the cause behind that random zit on your chin? Was it last week’s late-night cheese binge? Or the two all-nighters you pulled a few days ago because of deadlines? Or was it the new face cream you slathered on this morning that promised to give you super-glowy skin? Welp, our money is on all three, but if that doesn’t give you peace of mind, maybe CosDNA will. CosDNA is an amazing (yet totally janky-looking) website that allows you to search any skin care or beauty product in the world to find out which of its ingredients is most likely giving you acne or irritation. Yup.

More: Meet Tubing Mascara: The Best Mascara the Internet Swears By

Just type in the name of a product — or copy and paste the ingredients list into the search box — and CosDNA will analyze every single ingredient, giving it a rating of 0 to 5 for likelihood of irritation and potential comedogenicity (aka pore-clogging capabilities). The cult-favorite CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, for example, is filled with level-2 and 4 acne and irritant ingredients, like cetearyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol, while Vaseline has a completely clean rating of 0 across the board. Shocking, right?

Clear skin
Image: ImaxTree

We’re not saying, though, that you should swear off CeraVe forever and start slathering your face in Vaseline (although the internet swears by Vaseline for clearing up acne) because everyone’s skin is completely different, and your mileage may vary. A foundation or moisturizer with a totally clean CosDNA rating, for example, might react with your skin to break you out, while a serum or blush riddled with 4s and 5s could end up working perfectly well with your skin. We know — it sucks that there’s no exact science.

Plus, it’s good to keep in mind that the site isn’t totally flawless. It is, first and foremost, a database, and it draws all of its ratings from the most massive, large-scale study ever conducted on the pore-clogging capabilities of different ingredients, which was tested on the inside of rabbit ears rather than on humans (though their pores and oil glands have been shown to be pretty similar to ours). So there’s always going to be a margin of error in cosmetic testing.

Still, if you can’t figure out the mystery cause of your zits or sensitivities, CosDNA is an excellent place to start your investigation. Just plug in your current lineup of products, check for any red-flag ingredients, and start taking notes. Eventually, you’ll start to see a pattern of repeat offenders across your products, and you’ll know which ingredients to avoid next time you take a trip to the drugstore. We know it sounds like a lot of work, but in our book, 15 minutes of research is worth it for clear skin.

Do you feel that feeling? That kind of tingling feeling? That's the feeling everyone in the universe gets on the anniversary of Kanye West's birthday. And this year, it's a big one: the self-proclaimed best rapper ever is turning 40 today.

We weren't sure how to celebrate. Should we write a long, confusing political rant in which no one can tell which party we belong to? Should we dance on a floating stage? Reflect on his genius? No, we decided. The best way to celebrate the man and the artist is to listen to his entire discography in order while compiling the 40 weirdest tweets he's ever posted.

West deleted his Twitter and Instagram accounts last month, and nobody's quite sure why. But we can still reflect on the greatness that was and hope for a Kanye West-tweet-filled future. Ready?

Will Beyoncé Let Blue Ivy Watch the Twins' Birth?

$

Pop quiz time!

Which of the following is the best way to be sure an older sibling doesn't feel left out at the birth of new twin siblings?

a. Let older sibling watch the birth in all its gory, vernix-y delight
b. Purchase a $1,160 Givenchy-designed child's nurse uniform for older sibling to wear during the occasion

If you chose both A and B, congratulations! You are either Beyoncé taking this quiz or just naturally an A-lister.

More: Beyoncé is pregnant with twins, Lord have mercy

Now, these reports are unconfirmed, but the heavenly word floating through the ether is that Jay Z and Beyoncé want to be sure 5-year-old Blue Ivy feels included when the already famous twins arrive on the scene and steal poor Blue Ivy's thunder for life. So Jay and Bey are apparently prepping to let Blue Ivy — with a pint-sized Givenchy nurse outfit — watch the "magical family moment," according to the The Daily Star and Elle U.K., among other media outlets.

One source dished, "They’re worried that their daughter might feel left out when the twins arrive, so they’re trying to make sure she feels involved every step of the way."

We think a $1,160 Givenchy outfit can't hurt with that.

More: Beyoncé's pregnancy photos are art, people

Grandma Tina Knowles, Beyoncé's mom, recently enthused over her daughter's parenting prowess to People. "She’s a really good mom. Really patient and kind."

But the Bey and Jay camp is still mum on the subject of whether the power couple is having two girls, two boys or one of each.

We hope for Blue Ivy's sake that the birth is as gorgeous and composed as all of the prepartum photo shoots. If not, bury your face in your Givenchy skirt, Blue Ivy, and run for the hills.

Ryan Lochte Considered Suicide After the Scandal at the Rio Olympics

If you remember one thing about the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, it probably involves swimmer Ryan Lochte and the scandal surrounding vandalizing a gas station and then lying about it. Almost a year later, Lochte is now speaking out about that time in his life — specifically that he considered suicide.

In an interview with ESPN’s Allison Glock, the 12-time medalist opened up about his mental health struggles, saying that he was “about to hang up [his] entire life.”

More: Celebrating Someone Else's Suicide Is Just Plain Wrong — No Matter What They Did

“After Rio, I was probably the most hated person in the world,” he told Glock. “There were a couple of points where I was crying, thinking, ‘If I go to bed and never wake up, fine.’” When she asked if that meant that he considered suicide, Lochte nodded.

As a result of his behavior in Rio — where he lied about being robbed at gunpoint — Lochte was suspended from competing for 10 months, lost millions of dollars’ worth of sponsorships and received death threats. Though public opinion quickly turned against him, the International Olympic Committee made excuses for his behavior, referring to the then-32-year-old and his teammates as “kids [who] just came here to have fun.” He became the face of white male privilege.

Following a few public apologies for his “immature behavior,” Lochte took the traditional celeb-looking-for-a-comeback route and appeared on Dancing with the Stars. Ultimately, his year ended on a positive note — getting engaged and announcing that he and his fiancée are expecting their first child.

Sanya Richards-Ross Had an Abortion the Day Before Flying to 2008 Olympics

The day before Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross flew to Beijing for the 2008 Summer Games, she had an abortion.

In her new memoir, Chasing Grace: What the Quarter Mile Has Taught Me About God and Life, Richards-Ross discussed her decision to undergo the medical procedure immediately before competing, saying that the pregnancy was completely unexpected.

More: Ryan Lochte Considered Suicide After the Scandal at the Rio Olympics

"The culmination of a lifetime of work was right before me," she wrote in the book. "In that moment, it seemed like no choice at all. The debate of when life begins swirled through my head, and the veil of a child out of wedlock at the prime of my career seemed unbearable. What would my sponsors, my family, my church, and my fans think of me?"

At the time, Richards-Ross was engaged to football player Aaron Ross, who is now her husband. Ross was attending training camp when she went in for the procedure, so he wasn’t able to be there with her.

"Over the phone, we didn't go into details," Richards-Ross wrote about her conversation with Ross about having an abortion. "As if not saying it would alleviate some of the guilt and the shame."

She said that she “always harbored some resentment toward Ross” because even though they were both involved, she felt abandoned in the decision.

"It was like by not saying anything, neither agreeing nor opposing, he kept his conscience clear, but it wasn't fair. We were in it together," she wrote.

Richards-Ross and her team ended up winning the gold medal in the 4-X-400-meter relay, and she took home the bronze in the individual 300-meter race. Today, she is pregnant again and excited at the prospect of being a mother.

Quench Your Thirst for the '90s With the Return of Zima

If you were in high school or college in the '90s (or had older siblings who were), you're about to have a major nostalgic flashback. That's because Zima, everyone's favorite lemon-lime alcoholic beverage, is back on store shelves.

The clear, sparkling drink, which boasts a 5 percent ABV (alcohol by volume) ratio, will be returning to Walmart shelves on or before July 4 thanks to a partnership with Zima's distributor, Molson Coors.

For those who don't remember, Zima was basically the Smirnoff Ice or Mike's Hard Lemonade of its day. It was the booze of choice for those who were just getting into drinking and hated the taste of beer — there was even a DIY hack to change the flavor that people pulled off by dropping in a Jolly Rancher, which sounds a little janky but mostly awesome, TBH.

Simpson's Zima gif

But before die-hard Zima fans go getting too excited, beware: Once this new batch of Zima sells out in the U.S., it will be gone for good unless you want to try ordering it from a distributor in another country — but you should probably think twice before buying a six-pack from a random company halfway around the world (says the girl who once ordered a bottle of limited-edition seltzer on eBay).

Zima will be available through Labor Day or until Walmart sells out of its stock, so if you're craving an old favorite or just want to try something new, make sure you grab some before it disappears from shelves.

If there is any living musician more iconic than Cher, I want to hear who it is. Go ahead. I'll wait. No? No one? That's what I thought.

More: Cher Is Absolutely Not a Fan of Kate Hudson's Sportswear Line

What is almost as iconic as Cher herself is her life story. That's why it's the perfect subject for a Broadway musical. And that's why it's becoming one. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a musical of Cher's life is set to hit Broadway sometime in 2018 and we cannot wait.

Cher officially announced the forthcoming musical on Twitter this week, letting us all know in all caps that there will be "ACTORS" and "DANCERS" and "SINGERS." Oh boy.

Obviously, Cher's life is made for this because the music is already written. The show will feature songs from her career, but hopefully also some original showstoppers. The production crew is already star-studded: Jason Moore (Avenue Q, Pitch Perfect) is set to direct, Rick Elice (Jersey Boys) is set to write the book, and Jeffrey Seller (Hamilton) and Flody Suarez (Rise) are set to produce.

There's already been at least one secret reading of the show, and Cher tweeted about attending that back in January.

"I sobbed & laughed,& I was prepared not to [sic] like it. Audience clapped after songs,& gave it standing ovation," she wrote.

The Best Reactions to Wonder Woman From Men

Many women are deeply invested in the Wonder Woman movie, released June 2. Its very existence — a blockbuster superhero film starring a woman, also directed by a woman — cast it into an almost mythical light. It was the one we'd been waiting for, and it felt like a lot rested on its success. Conversely, it felt like there was much to be lost if it failed.

I mean, it felt like we needed this. Not every woman felt it, but for many of us, the success of this movie was a rallying cry, a confirmation of our worth and existence and a huge signal to Hollywood that we want these stories! We're willing to pay for these stories! We are desperate for stories about strong, vulnerable, nuanced women who are more than love interests or eye candy to their more powerful male co-stars.

It's been interesting, then, to see men's reactions to the same film. Reactions that have largely been absent of the significance imbued by virtue of being viewed through a female lens. Some men pouted and protested women's-only screenings of the film, and David Edelstein's tone-deaf film review in Vulture raised hackles across the internet as he focused more on star Gal Gadot's "superbabe" physique than the content of the film.

Some men got it, though. They understood perfectly why this film meant so much to so many, and they wanted to celebrate it too.

Here, we've gathered the most interesting responses to the movie from male Twitter users; good, bad, woke and beyond.

Here we go!

Seriously?

Oh, Paul.

Paul, Paul, Paul.

Let me allay your concerns by assuring you that yes, in fact, women who wear makeup and bikinis (metal or otherwise) do "count" as feminists.

Stay-at-home moms can be feminists, sex workers can be feminists, drop-dead gorgeous women can be feminists, muscly women can be feminists and (gasp!) even men can be feminists! The only thing required to "count" as feminist is the "radical" belief that men and women deserve equitable treatment. Somehow, I think Diana Prince has that base covered.

Hey, it's OK to not understand why some things bear so much significance to other people, buuut it's also kind of lazy to just end the conversation there, with your own ignorance.

This might be a good chance to dig deep, do some research and find out why women have been so affected? Could it be that in a culture that incessantly polices our sexuality, our clothing, our reproductive capacities and our earning potential, the image of a badass Amazon queen kicking ass is enough to raise goose bumps?

Yasssss, king!

These men, on the other hand, do get it.

Lauren Graham's Next Projects Are Going to Thrill Gilmore Girls Fans

Lauren Graham may not be Lorelai Gilmore anymore, but that character has had a profound impact on the trajectory of her career.

More: Gilmore Girls reboot: Where did the relationships end?

Now that Gilmore Girls is over, Graham is moving on to new projects. But she has a pretty specific idea of the kind of work she wants to do, and it's not like the shows we tend to see on TV today.

"I look at the success of 'A Year in the Life' and what it did for Netflix, and what I write as a screenwriter is in that same vein of happy romantic comedies," she told IndieWire. "I’m really devoted to that genre as something we need — hopeful, smart stories of having some love — and the idea that it’s just for girls is ridiculous. Nobody really makes romantic comedies anymore, and I don’t get why. I just don’t like watching zombies kill each other. I see how much the new Gilmore Girls has meant to the people who loved it, and I feel even more strongly that I want to be a part of things like that."

More: Alexis Bledel secretly dated pretty much everyone in the Gilmore Girls cast

So what's up next for Graham? She's teaming up with her Parenthood co-star Mae Whitman to adapt Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan’s book The Royal We. It tells the story of an American woman studying at Oxford who meets and falls in love with Britain's heir to the throne. Then, on the eve of the wedding, she grapples with having second thoughts about joining the royal family.

"I want to be part of storytelling that gives someone a lift of some kind," Graham said. "It doesn’t have to be role-model-y, necessarily, but I’m proud to have put something positive in the world, and I feel even more devoted to that now because I need it. I’m just devoted to storytelling, and I don’t care as much if I’m in it anymore. I’d be just as happy to write it."

How a Hairbrush Changed My Sex Life

$

On the day after my birthday, on our regular date night, I was at E.’s feet after he had fastened a collar around my neck. It’s a ritual we have: I wait for him, kneeling in front of the door. He comes in, says hello, has me serve him a beer and sits on the couch. I kneel again, this time between his feet, as he holds my collar and asks a question, always the same: “What do you offer me, little girl?” “Myself,” I answer. I bend my head forward, feel the cool leather wrap around my neck. He fumbles with the buckle until he pulls the strap through, securing it in place.

He brought my birthday gift, and I knew what it was. We’d been talking about this for months now, ever since last summer when we wandered downtown to a boutique for gentlemen during one of our walks. All we could do then was walk together; he was repairing his relationship with his wife, and refrained from engaging with me in more than friendly ways. He was not ready to re-enter poly life, and I had to wait for him.

The store’s window display featured ties and straight razors, cufflinks and hairbrushes. There was one brush in particular, about 4 inches long, with a satiny blond wooden handle and back and natural bristle hair.

Being the kinksters we are, we looked at the brush not for what it could do for our hair, but rather for other, more tender parts of my body.

“What a beautiful instrument,” he said, with a grin across his face. “Indeed,” I replied, trying to hide my excitement at the thought. We walked in, asked about the price. The clerk took it down from its display and handed the box to us. I slipped the brush out of its case, feeling the soft wood on my skin. I whacked it in my palm a few times, trying to get a sense of its heft and its bite. The small size and low weight of the brush meant a snappy, localized sting. Nice.

The brush was, of course, expensive. It was, of course, just a fantasy for the moment — something to dream about in quiet moments alone with my Hitachi, imagining myself in a plaid skirt and white button-down shirt and him in a stately tweed blazer, hands covered in chalk dust and smelling of books and wood-polishing oil.

It took over a year in total between when we had to stop seeing each other and when we could be together again. My birthday happened four months after that, at the end of a harrowing semester that left me exhausted, physically and emotionally. It had taken patience and love and compassion. It had taken time. And it was all worth it.

A classic psychological study with children called the marshmallow experiment demonstrated that those who can delay gratification are more successful, more socially adept and take greater pleasure from what does come their way. The year had been my marshmallow experiment, and the hairbrush my reward: a long spanking, lovingly administered, with a toy we chose together all those months ago.

When I pulled my gift from its bag, I could not suppress a smile. “I knew it,” I said.

“I can’t wait to try it,” he replied.

Our play had been fairly light and exploratory over the winter months. We had to connect with each other all over again, rediscover the shape of each other, figure out where our love and our kinks intersected. That night, the day after my birthday, it all snapped back into place with, well, the snapping of the brush against my ass. As predicted, it had a stingy feel, not quite as diffused as a paddle but not quite as localized as a crop; a happy middle. That night, we found each other again: we came together like a surfer and wave, in control but letting go, aware but blissful.

Pleasure that takes time to build is anathema to our quick-fix world, but I don’t regret a second of that lonely year. It made our reunion all the sweeter and our connection all the stronger. Patience is a lost virtue; these days, if you don’t get in the sack 24 hours after swiping right, you’re moving too slow. But I luxuriate in our slowness now. We may only live once, but we don’t need to go at everything with lightning speed. Sometimes, we have to stop and smell the roses… or in my case, feel the smack of a brush on my ass.

Step 2: Place the printed design on cardboard and carefully cut out lettering with the craft knife. Make sure to save the inside of each letter, as they will be needed to complete the stencil for your design.

Step 3: Insert the cardboard between the front and back of the T-shirt, placing it directly underneath where you will be placing the stencil.

Step 4: Cover the back of vellum sheet stencil with spray adhesive. Spray the back of the inside of each letter that you have saved as well. Spray generously, making sure to cover the edges of your design thoroughly to prevent the bleach from bleeding through.

Step 5: Place the stencil evenly across the front of shirt. The adhesive will easily pull away from the shirt, so take your time centering the stencil and placing it exactly where you want it before smoothing it down completely. Place the insides of any letters that are separate from your stencil in their places as well. Make sure all edges are firmly adhered to the T-shirt.

Step 6: Use a bleach pen to fill in the entire area of your stencil. Apply a generous amount, working from the edges inward to reduce the chance of the bleach bleeding through the stencil.

Step 7: Let the bleach dry completely before removing stencil. Use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process if needed. To remove the stencil, peel from one corner lifting upward; take care not to let any parts of the stencil touch the T-shirt once removed.

Step 8: Using the template as a guide, choose the years that pertain to the special dad in your life and carefully pen in small lettering using the bleach pen. Let dry completely.

Step 9: Wash and dry the shirt by itself — do not put in with other laundry. Now your personalized shirt is ready for Dad or Grandpa to wear this Father’s Day!
