Lady Gaga emerges from lady bits, grinds herself

Lady Gaga's got a brand-new bag of tricks. This one probably should come with a warning label.

Lady Gaga emerges from inflatable vaginaLady Gaga fans were given quite the treat during the opening night of her Born This Way tour in Los Angeles. Concertgoers were given the chance to witness Gaga's birth... sort of.

Lady Gaga's idea of making an entrance has always proven to be quite entertaining. Our favorite has always been the time she showed up in an egg. Bursting through an inflatable vagina might top that, though, especially when said lady bits were pierced and also connected to fishnet stocking-clad inflatable thighs.

Some things cannot be unseen and this inflatable vagina birth is certainly one of them.

Lady Gaga sends gift to shooting victim>>

That wasn't the only strange act of the night. During another scene, Gaga appeared in a replication of her infamous meat dress and tossed herself in a blender. That's a completely normal thing to do, right? She was also seen groping one of her backup dancers' rumps.

Then, of course, there was last week's accidental wardrobe malfunction when Gaga's latex pants from Versace split to show a whole lot of Lady Gaga's backside.

Lady Gaga offers counseling on tour>>

It's rumored that the singer will be in the Washington, D.C., area for a post-inaugural party with White House staffers on Tuesday night. Do you think the Secret Service will let Lady G bring her inflatable anatomy class with her? What about her portable suicide prevention team that reportedly tours along with the band? And, is it possible Lady Gaga felt the need for the suicide deterrence team in to help fans recover from Lady Gaga's on-stage birthing scene.

How to be a tidy cook

Cooking and cleaning go hand in hand. Instead of cooking first and cleaning up second, try cleaning as you go and see the difference it can make in your meal, your attitude and your kitchen.

Woman cooking in kitchen

There’s no doubt that cooking is a form of art, and most cooks, even amateur ones, focus much more on the cooking than the cleaning. Of course we want our food to taste good, but why not learn to clean while we cook? This saves time and helps us stay organized during the cooking process, making the meal that much easier to create and enjoy.

Step 1: Prep

The first step in being a tidy cook starts with the preparation. Take all the necessary ingredients out of the cupboard and place them on kitchen counter. If you’re cooking more than one dish, group the ingredients based on where they’re needed. Get your pots and pans on their correct burners, preheat the oven and get out any other needed items, such as a cutting board, mixing bowl or measuring cups. Having everything set out in front of you before you begin eliminates scrambling for items as you go and causing an even bigger mess.

Check out this super-spicy chicken stir-fry recipe>>

Step 2: Clean as you go

Whether you’re making cookies or a stir-fry loaded with veggies, it’s vital to keep your cooking area clean. Here are some tips to make this happen:

  • Put ingredients away after each use. For cookies, measure all dry ingredients and put them back in the pantry before moving on to the wet ingredients. This helps keep your area free of clutter and ensures you don’t forget a valuable ingredient!
  • Throw away trash as you go. If trimming veggies, pile up the peels, ends, etc., on a paper towel and dispose of it when done. Same goes for cracking eggs, unwrapping butter or opening meat packages. Consider moving the trashcan to your cooking area to make this process even easier.
  • Rinse dirty dishes immediately. Whether using knives, bowls, spoons or measuring cups, rinse each item with hot water right away. This prevents the food from sticking, saving you tons of time when loading the dishwasher later on.
  • When food is cooking, load up the dishwasher. Now that your food is successfully prepped and in the oven , it’s time to put all the dishes in the dishwasher. Since you’ve pre-rinsed everything, this should take but a few minutes.
  • Keep the counters clean. If stirring sauces on the stove, keep the spoon on a paper towel or spoon holder to prevent food from getting on the counter and hardening.

Step 3: Clean up afterward

Tip: After loading the dishes, spend an extra few minutes wiping down the stove and countertops.

By the time the meal is finished, the only visible dirty dishes should be whatever dish the food was cooked in and plates to serve your meal on. For sauces and stir-fries , rinse the cooking dish immediately after the food is put on the plates. Rinsing spaghetti sauce or caramelized onions is much easier when the pan is still hot. The same goes for the plates — once you and your family are done enjoying your meal, finish the job by rinsing all the plates and loading everything into the dishwasher. Since the pre-cooking dishes are already in it, it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to get everything else loaded up.

Being a tidy cook for every meal guarantees that you will always have a clean kitchen. Once you’ve used this process a few times, it becomes a habit — one you won’t want to break!

Real men talk about your underwear and lingerie

You know how it is. After dating someone for a while, you start to put less and less effort into wearing sexy lingerie and start trading lacy thongs for more practical choices. Whether you go for bikini briefs or grannie panties, we’re breaking down what your underwear choices mean for your relationship and are asking some guys for their opinions on what they think of your skivvies.

Tell us what you really think

You know how it is. After dating someone for a while, you start to put less and less effort into wearing sexy lingerie and start trading lacy thongs for more practical choices.

Whether you go for bikini briefs or grannie panties, we’re breaking down what your underwear choices mean for your relationship and are asking some guys for their opinions on what they think of your skivvies.

Lingerie: What they like

Let’s face it — most guys like sexy, lacy, frilly, skin-baring lingerie and whether it’s comfortable or not is way beyond the point. The more it looks like something they might see a Victoria’s Secret model wearing, the more they’re going to want you to wear it.

“I really love those garter belt things. If I’m dating a girl, I want her to wear them for me but not that many girls have them. I think they should definitely be a must-have for every girl if they really want to turn a guy on.” Steven, Queens, New York

“The skimpier, the better. My girlfriend has a great body so I like her to show if off for me.” Matt, Vail, Colorado

“Anything with lace really turns me on and I know my girlfriend says some of the stuff I get for her isn’t that comfortable but she looks really hot in it. Plus it’s not like she has to wear it for that long.” Cary, Los Angeles, California

Woman wearing garter belt

"I really love those garter belt things."

Finding a balance

Rather than have an underwear argument every time you hit the bedroom or undress in front of your guy, we suggest finding a healthy balance between what he likes — and what you like. Yes, it actually is possible. We swear! Go with your partner to a lingerie store and actually try some things on. We know that takes out the element of surprise but at least that way you’ll know that what you’re buying is comfortable and fits well, but also turns him on.

Lingerie: What we like

Women aren’t averse to being sexy. In fact, we like to feel sexy, but not always at the expense of comfort. The best pieces of lingerie not only look good and enhance your specific body type, but they make you feel good and boost confidence. There’s nothing worse than slipping into something your guy got you hoping to feel like a sex goddess and instead feel more like you’ve been squished into some sort of weird too-tight costume that also kind of itches.

“My husband got me this gorgeous, probably very expensive, bra and underwear set a few years ago for our anniversary. I tried it on and of course it was too small, and the lace made me so itchy that I couldn’t wait to get it off. I haven’t worn it since that night.” Wendy, Victoria, British Columbia

“I like to be comfortable so my underwear reflects that. I know my boyfriend would prefer if I bought some flashier stuff, but to be honest, I just don’t like wearing it.” Malinn, Orlando, Florida

By now you’ve likely heard of BB cream , the all-in-one product aimed at evening skin tone while providing sun protection and often other beauty-boosting benefits. What's in a cream?

By now you’ve likely heard of BB cream , the all-in-one product aimed at evening skin tone while providing sun protection and often other beauty-boosting benefits. But lately a few similar multitasking products have entered the market, including the new CC and DD creams. Confused? Don’t be. We’re breaking down all three.

Our pick: Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm .The first: BB cream

The skin care darling that launched it all originated in Asia as a way to meet a variety of beauty needs — from brightening and lightening, to blemish hiding and skin tone improvement. While in the past you might have needed to layer on sunscreen, tinted moisturizer and a highlighter to get the look you want, BB cream takes all the work out of creating a smooth complexion with just a simple swipe.

Our pick: Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm .

Our pick: Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream .The now: CC cream

The next generation of complexion perfectors, otherwise known as “color corrector” or “coverage control” creams, offer lighter but better coverage than BB cream. These new kids on the beauty block act as a primer, brightener and foundation, while also providing sun protection and anti-aging ingredients, making them even heavier hitters than BB cream. In fact, some CC creams boast as many as 12 functions in one product.

Our pick: Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream .

The next: DD cream

First we had BB, then CC and now get ready for DD cream! Unlike BB and CC cream, recent reports have indicated that DD creams won’t target the complexion, but rather focus on feet and body. These creams are said to be fairly heavy duty in texture and are known as “daily defense” creams. We don't have a pick yet since they have yet to hit the market in the U.S., but we’ll keep you posted!

White House Chef: Eleven Years, Two Presidents, One Kitchen - Walter Scheib and Andrew Friedman

So-called "foodie" books, or books about chefs/bakers with vivid descriptions of food, are all the rage right now, so it's understandable why Julie Hyzy's cozy mystery series about the head chef of the White House is on its fifth installment. . Chef Olivia, or Ollie, Paras is a great chef, but she also has a penchant for getting right into the middle of trouble, which makes this series a lot of fun. If you're curious about real-life White House chefs, try Walter Schieb's memoir White House Chef, about the eleven years he spent cooking for first families in the most famous house in the United States.

The Lost Carving: A Journey into the Heart of Making - David Esterly

Most of us have heard about The Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett's tome behind the building of a medieval church. It's received its fair share of attention: Oprah's Book Club, a sequel called World Without End, and a hit miniseries on HBO. It's about relationships and characters, yes, but it's also about the physical act and skill that went into building a church during that time period. If that aspect of the book fascinated you, then consider The Lost Carving by David Esterly. Esterly is a woodcarver, and after a fire ravaged King Henry VIII's Hampton Court Palace, he was asked to recarve and replace a historic mantlepiece. It's about the carving and making, yes, but also about the politics that went into such a massive restoration.

Mary Todd Lincoln: A Biography - Jean H. Baker

Abraham Lincoln has certainly been in the news lately, after Daniel Day Lewis' stunning portrayal of the beloved president in the movie Lincoln. But Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln is garnering much praise, as well. If you're curious to learn a little more about the former first lady, you can try the new release Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker, which is a fictional account of Mary Todd Lincoln's relationship with her dressmaker, a former slave named Elizabeth Keckley. If you're looking for still more, try Jean H. Baker's acclaimed biography of Mrs. Lincoln, which will surely fill in all the details you're searching for.

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio made movie magic with their intense chemistry in Titanic, inspiring a whole new generation of young romantics. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, now's the perfect time to see who’s falling in love on the silver screen this year. Surprisingly, they're not all human...

Safe Haven

Based on the Nicholas Sparks novel, Safe Haven pairs Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel as a young couple struggling to find love despite her dark secrets and his grief. This romantic drama is likely to invoke tears, so we give Hough and Duhamel a chemistry rating of 8 for what’s sure to be their strong, emotional performances. In theaters Feb. 14.

The Host

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, who we know from 2009’s The Lovely Bones, is now 18 years old and is ready to be Hollywood’s new “it girl.” In the movie The Host, based on the book by Twilight’s Stephenie Myer, Ronan plays a young woman whose being has been invaded by an alien creature. In this potentially epic love story, Ronan’s character Melanie fights to be with her human love, Jared, played by Max Irons, who’s way sexier than his dad, Jeremy. On a scale of 1 to 10, Ronan and Irons get an 8 in terms of on-screen chemistry for their youthful idealism and alien allure. In theaters March 29.

To the Wonder

Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, and Olga Kurylenko star in To the Wonder, a movie about a cross-cultural love triangle with a French twist that quickly pushes all three involved to their passionate limits. We give this romantic triad a chemistry rating of 10 for its ménage a trois potential. In theaters April 12.

Beautiful Creatures

Newcomers Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich heat up the screen in Beautiful Creatures, a supernatural love story that takes place in a small town in South Carolina. We give this couple a chemistry rating of 9 for Englert’s mysterious supernatural powers. In theaters Feb. 14.

Warm Bodies

Warm Bodies is a twisted love story where a human named Julie, played by Teresa Palmer, falls in love with a Zombie named R, played by Nicholas Hoult. Hoult played the adorable kid in 2002’s About a Boy so it’s difficult to tell how he’ll be as a leading dead man. Aussie actress Palmer is drop-dead beautiful and charmed us all in I Am Number Four. The pair gets a chemistry rating of 7, which is pretty good considering one of them is dead. In theaters Feb. 1.

Side Effects

Rooney Mara stunned as the surprisingly sexy The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. In the new film Side Effects, she plays the wife of super-hottie Channing Tatum and is obviously devastated when he’s sentenced to prison for four years. We’d freak out, too, unless he was allowed conjugal visits. We give Mara and Tatum a chemistry rating of 10 for her enigmatic allure and his beefy bod. In theaters Feb. 8.

Ready for takeoff? This week Frequent Flier is heading to intriguing Mérida, Mexico. The capital of the state of Yucatán, Mérida might not be firmly rooted on the tourist map yet, but that is likely to change. With more and more visitors to the region looking past Cancun to see what else the Yucatán has to offer, Mérida makes for an enlightening stop on any tour of the area and we'll tell you why.

Why go

Mérida is well worth a visit for the colonial architecture, European flavor, wide boulevards and fabulous people-watching from any number of street-side bars and restaurants. We spent five days soaking up the laid-back atmosphere, but could have spent several more.

Merida

Go see a cenote

One of our highlights of spending several days in Mérida was taking a day trip to see a cenote, which is basically an oversize sinkhole or underground body of ultra-clear water. There are several cenotes worth exploring that are just a short drive from Mérida, and there are many tour companies in town that can take you.

We suggest booking with a company that will drive you to at least two cenotes , so you can get a good sense of the varying sizes and depths. Also ask whether snorkel equipment is provided — while there are no tropical fish to spot, the underwater rock formations are well worth donning a mask for. Do note that you will be climbing up and down steep ladders, so wear appropriate footwear .

Spend time in the central square

Mérida’s charming central square, Plaza Grande, is an ideal spot to relax, read a book, check your email or just people-watch and soak up the easygoing atmosphere. The sprawling, tree-shaded square also hosts many free cultural events, something we stumbled upon during our visit when we were treated to live music under the stars.

There’s usually something happening every week, so ask at your hotel or guesthouse about what’s going on when you visit. Along with people selling handicrafts and small carts selling local snacks and treats , the central square is home to some of the most historically significant buildings in Mérida.

Uxmal

Visit the museums and galleries

We were pleasantly surprised by the number of museums and galleries in Mérida. You could easily spend a couple of days meandering around them if you have the time to spare. Start with the free and well-curated Yucatán Museum of Contemporary Art, which features a rotating outdoor sculpture exhibit — a highlight for us.

The Yucatán Museum of Popular Art is another good choice to add to your cultural itinerary in Mérida. Located in a historic home, the museum displays folk art from various regions of Mexico. It showcases traditional clothing, jewelry, pottery, masks and ceramics, with featured exhibits changing every three to four months.

Galería Mérida features contemporary and fine art by local Yucatecan artists and is also housed in a charming colonial building.

Check out some Mayan ruins

If you’re interested in Mayan ruins, you can easily visit several on day trips from Mérida. Two of the easiest to get to are Uxmal and Mayapan.

Uxmal is the larger of the two and is one of the best-restored and maintained archaeological sites in the Yucatán. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a detailed glimpse into the Mayan history and culture. The most wow-worthy structure is the 100-foot Pyramid of the Magician, the tallest of the bunch. Expect to spend a few hours exploring, so bring a hat, water and good walking shoes.

Mayapan is a much smaller site but is no less interesting. It’s also much quieter than many other Mayan ruins in Mexico, making it easier to navigate at your own pace, minus the crowds. You’ll need about an hour and a half to get through this one at a fairly leisurely pace.

If you go

Stay at the stylish yet relaxed Hotel Boutique Mérida Santiago, within walking distance to many of Mérida’s main attractions. The four-room hotel features a lovely courtyard and a pool, which is perfect for cooling off after a hot day of sightseeing.

The Mentalist star Emmanuelle Chriqui dishes on her beauty secrets, favorite designers and which celeb she’d die to trade closets with right now.

When Emmanuelle waltzed into our interview , she looked absolutely radiant in a super-hot Max Mara jumpsuit and sky-high black heels, beyond excited to chat with us about her beauty must-haves and what drives her style choices.

Mineral Fusion body lotion, shampoo, and conditioner

As we were testing and playing with some of her most covetable Mineral Fusion products — everything from revitalizing body lotion to the prettiest nail polishes — the former Entourage glamour girl filled us in on her beauty routine, favorite red carpet moments and more!

SheKnows: What is your number one secret for keeping your skin glowing?

Emmanuelle Chriqui: Washing off my makeup every night before I go to bed! It’s so important. I’m a big skin girl. I also love to get body scrubs when I can, and use the Mineral Fusion Waterstone Lotion that is clinically proven to keep skin hydrated for 24 hours!

Emmanuelle at the 2013 InStyle/Warner Bros. Golden Globe after party.

SK: How do you keep your hair looking fabulous and healthy?

EC: I love Mineral Fusion’s Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner. If I use a shampoo that’s made of unnatural products, it makes my hair limp, and I don’t have that problem with this!

SK: Who are some of your favorite red carpet fashion designers?

EC: I definitely haven’t worn some of my favorite designers. Dior makes some sick gowns. I also love Balmain. Obsessed. If I could wear that all the time, I would love it. It’s sexy, but has that masculine edge to it. I also love vintage Halston and Calvin Klein.

SK: How would you describe your style?

EC: I like to be simple. A simple dress that just looks amazing on your body.

SK: Which celeb would you love to trade closets with if you could?

EC: You know who has the sickest style? Zoe Saldana! Stunning. Always simple, refined and sexy. She’s never trying too hard. Joy Bryant also has great style.

People with disabilities encourage "people-first language"

Has political correctness run amok, or should we change the way we talk to better reflect respect for people with disabilities?
Child with Down syndrome

These days, there is a big emphasis on "people-first language." Has political correctness run amok, or should we change the way we talk to better reflect respect for people with disabilities?

All about respect

Language evolves over time.

Sometimes, different terms are preferred because new information tells us the preferred term is a more accurate descriptor. Sometimes, a proper noun becomes an everyday verb simply because everyone starts Googling everything.

Today, advocates of and people with disabilities emphasize “people-first language.” It’s exactly as it sounds: instead of saying, “a Down syndrome child,” you would say, “a child with Down syndrome.”

What’s the big deal?

Are we becoming overly sensitive in this era of Oprah-saturation?

“I think people too frequently don’t realize the power of their words,” explains Trudy Jacobson, chief development and marketing officer of The Arc. “In defining someone by their disability, you can rob them of their individuality.”

For more than six decades, The Arc has helped establish and protect disability rights while advocating for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. The organization provides a guide to using people-first language.

Why you should care

The Arc reports about 54 million Americans — one out of every five individuals — have a disability. “Well, that still doesn’t affect me,” you insist.

Doesn’t it? “The disability community is the only minority group that anyone can join at any time,” The Arc points out in its guide.

Your words reflect you

“Words are powerful and can cause a lot of damage,” says The Arc’s Jacobson. “Words also represent you and your viewpoint. So, why would you want your choice in words to tie you to negative bias and discrimination, when it is so simple to be more thoughtful about what you are saying?”

The Arc’s guide simplifies what “people-first” means: “People First Language puts the person before the disability, and describes what a person has, not who a person is. Using a diagnosis as a defining characteristic reflects prejudice, and also robs the person of the opportunity to define him [or] herself.”

Another viewpoint

Sandy Lahmann, who has multiple sclerosis and uses a wheelchair, countered conventional wisdom in The Summit Daily.

"What really gets weird is when able-bodied people feel a need to lecture me about what I should be calling myself."

"I don’t care if someone calls me a 'disabled person,'" Lahmann wrote. "It doesn’t bother me. ... One of the reasons I don’t care is that it gets a little weird."

As a writer, Lahmann describes trying to use the preferred people-first terminology only to find "it seems like I’ve said 'person with a disability' 20 million times and I can’t think of any acceptable synonyms."

She also points to logic. "What really gets weird is when able-bodied people feel a need to lecture me, a person with a disability, about what I should be calling myself."

"Whenever an able-bodied person starts lecturing a person with a disability about people-first language, we’ve gone too far to the other side."

Feeling lost?

Kathie Snow launched the website Disability is Natural“to encourage new ways of thinking about developmental disabilities, in the belief that our attitudes drive our actions,” the site explains. “Changes in our attitudes and actions can help create a society where all children and adults with developmental disabilities [may] live the lives of their dreams.”

Snow also has published an article titled, “To ensure Inclusion, Freedom, and Respect for all, it’s time to embrace People First Language.” The article provides examples of how the concept of people-first language changes the inference of outdated but still commonly used terms.

Still too 'PC?'

“The simple fact is that using language that was rejected by the people it was used to describe is a slur against them and shows blatant disrespect,” emphasizes The Arc’s Jacobson. “We, as a society, should not allow language that diminishes another person’s value or insults them to be socially acceptable.”

Aretha Franklin is cackling over Beyoncé lip-syncing

Aretha Franklin is positively tickled about the controversy over whether or not Beyoncé lip-synced the national anthem at the presidential inauguration. Has this old feud been reignited?

Aretha Franklin

Did she or didn't she? Beyoncé may have lip-synced her stunning performance of the national anthem at the presidential inauguration earlier this week, and her old foe Aretha Franklin finds the controversy positively hilarious.

"When I heard the news this evening that she was pre-recorded I really laughed," Franklin told ABC News. "I thought it was funny because the weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees and for most singers that is just not good singing weather."

"When I heard that I just really cracked up. I thought it was really funny, but she did a beautiful job with the pre-record."

The soul legend was quick to point out that when she performed at the 2009 inauguration it was much colder and she sang live.

"I wanted to give people the real thing and pre-recording never crossed my mind," she said.

This is far from the first time Franklin has publicly poked at Queen B. In 2008, she took great exception with the "Single Ladies" singer referring to Tina Turner as "The Queen of Soul" during a performance at the Grammys, saying, "I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé. However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy."

Beyoncé's father Mathew Knowles later fired back, saying, "Something this ridiculous — it's childish, it's unprofessional. And it's a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess."

A Marine Corps Band spokesman has since backed off the lip-syncing claim, saying he didn't actually know one way or the other if the performance was live.

The 32-year-old actress and her husband, Magic Mike star Channing Tatum, are expecting their first child together... and, from the sounds of it, it won’t be their last!

“I’m ready; I think she’s ready,” Channing told People magazine. “The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we’ll see where we go after that.”

Not only are they keeping mum on the sex, but they aren’t giving many hints on how far along she is.

”She's having an elephant,” Shepard joked, when asked when she was due. ”They gestate many months longer than a human.”

The reality star is due in July — just like Kate Middleton! — and neither one looks to be showing much yet.

Kim recently said it is a “miracle” she got pregnant since she does have fertility issues.

“I think it's just such a blessing knowing my circumstances,“ she said. “You think your life is going to be a certain way, and the best surprises just happen when you don't plan.“

The Cougar Town star recently opened up about pregnancy weight gain on Good Morning America, saying she gained 75 pounds during her first pregnancy.

“I breastfed for 14 months which helped. The first 20 pounds came off fairly easily and after that I went to the gym twice a week and did plenty of walking. It was hard, but thank God for Spanx,” she said.

"It's great to be healthy but you have to set a good example for your kids and know that it's not about a number on a scale but how you feel," Philipps said.

Next up: Pregnant Sara Rue wears a chic wrap dress

Sara Rue

Pregnant Malibu Country actress Sara Rue looked radiant on the red carpet in a printed wrap dress at the ABC TCA Winter 2013 Party at the Langham Huntington Hotel.

Rue wears her hair in a chic braid that gives her that cool bohemian look.

The actress told Us Weekly back in September that she was due “early next year” — so we can expect a baby announcement very soon!

She also said she was planning on finding out the sex of the baby. “I've been spending way too much time on Pinterest and Etsy to not find out, you know?“ she said.

Um, yes… we know!

Rue, who lost 50 pounds on Jenny Craig, said she was trying to not go too crazy with pregnancy cravings.

“I'm just really trying to listen to my body. I know this is weird, but I literally had these two giant glasses of milk and I was like, ’OK, I guess I needed calcium.’ So when I want ice cream, I need to realize, ’No, I probably need milk,’ and not go too crazy.“ she said.

Shakira has baby: Kicks off most anticipated births of 2013

It seems you can’t swing a pregnancy test in Hollywood without hitting a celeb who’s in a family way. There’s so many of them, we’ve gotten a bit jaded by the baby boom. There are still a few impending births that intrigue us, and here they are…

ShakiraShakira and baby Milan

Songstress Shakira and baby daddy Gerard Piqué welcomed 6 lb, 6 oz. baby Milan into the world on Jan. 22, 2013, in Barcelona, Spain. After watching Momma Shakira dance in She Wolf where she is able to move muscles independently from the rest of her body, we’re guessing child birth was easy by comparison. This was one of the most highly anticipated births of 2013 because, uh, look at these parents! Give us a damn break. Combine that with the singing, dancing and Daddy’s fancy footwork as a football player, and this is one genetic package we are very excited to watch grow up.

Shakira shakes her hips and delivers a baby!>>

Kate MiddletonKate Middleton

Prince William’s Mrs., Kate Middleton, is about to grow the monarchy and we can’t wait for the palace to have a tot again. Just as her mother-in-law Princess Diana set fashion trends every time she stepped out, mothers with burgeoning bellies everywhere will be casting a watchful eye on Kate’s maternity fashions. Will the royal couple have a little prince or princess? The royal bundle o' joy is due in July, so will Kate have a Cancer or a Leo? See? The anticipation is killing us!

Save the date: The royal baby arrives in July!>>

Kim Kardashian Kayne WestKim Kardashian

When you’re famous for having sex on tape, and recording every detail of your life for mass consumption, naturally the public will whip itself into a frenzy when you’re pregnant. We are, of course, referring to Kim Kardashian’s impending birth. This is Kim we’re talking about, so the guy she had sex with on tape is not her baby daddy, and the guy she’s still married to isn’t her baby daddy. Proud papa Kanye West will be entering into parenthood with Kim. Why does that make us want to say, “Yikes. There goes the neighborhood..."?

Kim and Kourtney Kardashian talk shared breastfeeding>>

Channing TatumChanning Tatum

Magic Mike’s Channing Tatum and his lovely wife, Jenna Dewan, are due to deliver their bun from the oven later this year. When Channing was crowned People magazine’s "Sexiest Man Alive" in November 2012, he mentioned his wife Jenna more than 12 times, once to admit that they were ready to have a family. Every time we see these two they are hand-in-hand doing something — hiking, walking the dog, going to lunch. The Tatum tot will not only be gorgeous, but by all appearances, will also be raised in a loving home. Sigh.

Ryan Seacrest Julianne HoughRyan Seacrest

Mr. Hollywood went on Chelsea Lately and gushed about his girlfriend, the upcoming Safe Haven’s Julianne Hough. Not only is Julianne the “best part of every day,” but Ryan admitted that he and Julianne want to get married and have kids. Move over Brad and Angelina. If these two get hitched and start having little starlets, they may take over the title of King and Queen of Hollywood. So what’s the hang-up? It’s probably that Ryan hasn’t taken a day off in 10 years. Hopefully, he’ll take one off to tie the knot with Julianne before her eggs turn to dust!

Chasing the Dream: Lessons for your kids

Mom working with daughter

Empower yourself and your children

When we chase our dreams, it’s such an empowering and exciting thing. But it’s not just about us. Working toward our dreams leaves a lasting impact on our kids as well. They see the value of hard work and learn so much.

Writer Margot Starbuck dreams of having her own HBO comedy special and also of writing a hit comedic screenplay. She's a working writer, avidly pursuing those dreams — and she knows her daughter Zoe is watching her and observing what she does.

Starbuck wants her daughter to learn important lessons about going after what you want by watching her.

"I want her to recognize, in my example, that anything is possible."

"When Zoe looks at my life — the energy and vision with which I create, the way I love my neighbors, the opportunities I grab — I want her to recognize, in my example, that anything is possible," says Starbuck. "I suspect I'm at life's halfway point — though, really, who knows? — and I'm keenly aware that there are screenplays to be written, comedy monologues to perform and bestsellers to pen. I want to seize every opportunity to do those things I sense I've been created to do."

Starbuck's observations about her daughter watching her are spot-on. As a mother, you are your child's first role model. "By going after your dreams as the mom [and] as the role model for the daughter, you encourage her to go after her dreams," says Shari Young Kuchenbecker, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology at Chapman University.

Important lessons

Like Starbuck, your kids are watching and learning from your example. That's critically important as you decide what opportunities to pursue — and when to back down. And furthermore, as you celebrate wins and bounce back from setbacks, you are modeling how to handle these successes and failures.

Kuchenbecker says that as kids watch their moms go after their dreams, they pass along many lessons such as perseverance and the importance of hard work. "When a mom goes back to grad [school] or goes to finish her bachelors, her daughter sees her mother tackling challenges," says Kuchenbecker.

In her own life, Kuchenbecker says that she involved her kids in her pursuits — having them help whenever possible. Whatever your pursuit, you can too. For writers, that might mean letting kids read what you are writing and make suggestions, she says.

Why it matters

Research has shown that more often than not, girls will achieve more than their mothers — so if you are leading with an example of success and hard work, your daughter will likely do the same. On the converse, putting yourself last can have negative impacts on your children as well. "If you don’t go after whatever you [want to] do, that’s what your child will learn," says Kuchenbecker.

Pretty Little Liars recap: "Misery Loves Company"

$

In the latest episode, some members of Rosewood find themselves taking some of their own medicine — while others may be infected by someone else's poisonous, and possibly fatal, scheme.

Toby breaks Spencer's heart.

"Fear cuts deeper than a sword"

In the strangely profound and foreshadowing quote from Mona , a little says a lot about her and Toby's  plans for the PLL crew, and in one of the first scenes admits that she isn't the one pulling all the shots. Who is A then?!!

This episode turned the action up a notch, and twisted my stomach into knots — fear certainly ran rampant for three certain members of Rosewood: Aria , Hanna , and Spencer .

Meredith and Byron = Bonnie and Clyde?

The episode starts off with Hanna, Spencer and Emily gathered around Aria. They obsess over how sick she looks/is, which is often a tell-tale sign that something just isn't right. Aria has a unusual dependency on this elixir tea Meredith concocted — Red Flag No. 2.

Soon thereafter, Meredith begins her descent into maniac. She searches the house when Aria is sleeping, steals her phone, and when Aria requests Meredith to relay a message to her mother — Meredith tells Ella something entirely different. Aria soon realizes via a dream with Ali indicating she's being drugged, that something is wrong.

It goes downhill when Meredith returns to Aria's room at night, and after the PLL crew witnesses Meredith's fury at not being able to refill a anxiety/sleeping pill prescription, they rush to Aria's aid . It all seems too late when Meredith lures the girls to the basement and they find a knocked-out Aria .

Byron returns to save the girls in the nick of time — and Meredith flees after implying she was just as afraid as Byron of the PLL crew's discovery of the diary pages. Seems Byron wasn't the only guilty one, and their lustful affair had its share of darker secrets, too. I wonder what Meredith's involvement was...

The girls leave, and Byron is apologetic  — which falls on deaf ears — however, his heartfelt retelling of the relevant series of events prompted Aria to burn the diary pages and admit she believes her father didn't kill Ali.

Hanna gets humbled

Hanna gets a highly sought after meeting with the owner of Corin's boutique. She goes to get ready and overhears Caleb on a phone call saying he was "in" and that he wants to "protect Hanna." .

Hanna asked Emily to tail Caleb, but then she gets distracted and is forced to ditch the effort. Caleb then meets Paige and they intend to do whatever it takes to take "A" down .

Meanwhile, Hanna goes to the boutique which, upon entry, seems deserted. She is surrounded by plastic mannequins and ends up getting shoved around in the dark by a hooded figure. In the oddest form of social marketing, the hashtag "#FashionVictim" pops up and it was certainly a corny mood-kill. In turn, she finally realizes that her feisty attack on Mona may have almost gotten her hurt. She notices the attacker dropped a key, and when she informs the PLL crew of what happened, Spencer is the one who keeps it for safekeeping.

Spencer's heartbreak will leave you in tears

It's the anniversary of the biggest relationship on the show, and as a result, also ends up as the most significant breakup. Now I wasn't banking on an Emmy-winning performance, but Spencer sure gives it all in this heart-wrenching episode.

Emily gets Toby's apartment key and Spencer plans on spending her anniversary by surprising Toby. Tsk tsk, Toby is a criminal, and criminals can't afford surprises. Spencer and her mom conspire a plan, tell Toby a cover-up plan, and share a lasagna recipe, all for this momentous occasion — only to have Toby ruin it with his poor timing.

Earlier in the day, Spencer lies to Toby about the key she is keeping for the girls and puts it in the kitchen drawer. When she comes down into the dark kitchen later, she catches Toby red-handed. Her heartbreak seeps into her face, and Toby disappears into the wind.

The episode ends with Spencer pleading at Toby's doorstep, begging for him to say it was a mistake and he isn't who she think he is after seeing him in a famous "A"-style hoodie. Inside, Mona smirks and enjoys the anniversary dinner as Toby is nowhere to be found.

Suddenly, Spencer, who is the most put together of the bunch, is now as broken as anyone else. She really seemed to believe he was the one!

How did this episode make you feel, readers? I think it's a safe bet that Spencer and Toby are over, but is it going to be a clean breakup? How do you think the PLL crew is going to react?

Parenthood finale: Until the fall, dear family

Another season, another finale. Parenthood ends yet again. Did you like the ending?

Parenthood's Braverman leaders

Well, that was bittersweet. As much as I love the Bravermans, I don't think I could have taken one more episode of drama this season. I'm far too emotionally invested. But, dang. This season finale was definitely a good one. Not everything was tied up perfectly, but it was tied up for another year. Here's what happened...

Amber and Ryan

Swoon! I've never rooted so hard for any two people in my life. Ryan stole our hearts the minute he walked on screen . Ryan and Amber were both just a little lost and a little directionless. While they're still their own person, I like that they find direction in each other. That final scene... that snippet of them through the shop window, it's promising. And if anyone takes that away from me next season, I'll plan a mutiny.

Kristina

Krissie's cancer-free! Even though Adam booked the trip to Hawaii for Kristina, I'm glad for him that they were able to go. Adam, despite his micromanaging and sometimes slightly judgmental tendencies toward Cros, is so caring and tried so hard to make his wife happy. He deserved the vacay as much as she did. That said, seeing her first cancer friend back for treatment is a reminder that, like the doctor said, they won't say she's "cured" until she's cancer-free for five years.

Parenthood's Joel, Julia, Victor and Syd

Also, we're really proud of Max for trusting Victor with a lizard. And, speaking of Victor....

Victor is a Braverman!

I guess, technically, Victor is a Graham, since that's his new dad Joel's last name, but there's no point in being nit-picky about it. Everyone who marries a Braverman or is born to a Braverman becomes... a Braverman.

The adoption scene in the judge's office definitely brought tears to my eyes. While it would have been cheesy under any other circumstances, I liked the matching suits and color coordination between the girls. Plus, the rest of the Braverman clan chipping in with love and support for Victor was absolutely adorable.

Mostly, though, I'm so, so glad Syd finally perked up to Victor at the very end. That scene, as well as the scene when Victor asks her to his adoption ceremony was a very brother/sister kind of moment.

Jasmine + Crosby + Jabbar + 1 = One happy family

Things were tense in Crosby's house this week. Jasmine's mother was still sulking because Crosby told her to back off on the parenting advice. She was so mad, in fact, that she even moved out and took residence with Jasmine's brother. Crosby scored some hard-to-get seats on a restaurant that Jasmine was dying to try, though, and that helped a tiny bit.

What helped ease everyone's mind the most, however, was Jasmine's news of a brand-new addition to their tiny, good-looking family. The baby news perked up their dinner, yes. But, when they showed up to tell Crosby's mother-in-law the news, she was over the moon. She was so excited, she even hugged Crosby! That's a good sign!

Sarah, Sarah, Sarah...Parenthood's Sarah and Amber

Sarah finally made her choice and it was Hank . Even after Mr. Cyr showed up at her door to profess his undying love story for her, she still decided to make things work.

Things with Hank may not be easy , but they're right. It seemed like a really grown-up moment for Sarah to see her choose what she wanted over what would come easier.

In the end, Hank invited Sarah to Minnesota, and I truly think he meant it. He left her to think about it and headed off to be with Ruby.

Season 5 predictions

Sarah will follow Hank to Minnesota. Why not? Drew is starting college and Amber has almost got her life together. They don't need her like they did when they were younger. She should do something for herself. Whether Season 5 picks up with Sarah still in the cold weather with Hank or whether she'll be back after some off-screen split, who knows. One way or another, Sarah spends time in Minnesota.

Amber and Ryan will tie the knot. No idea how this will go down. I think Amber is just as likely to drag Ryan to Vegas to get married by Elvis as she is to want some flowery, hippy garden party wedding a la Jasmine and Crosby. I definitely think they'll end up together forever.

Kristina will stay cancer-free. One season of hairless, puking drama was enough. Parenthood is a drama, not a soap opera. At least for the time being I think we're safe from health scares.

Cros and Jas will have another seriously adorable baby and Mama will move back in to help 'em out. or... If Sarah goes to Minnesota, maybe they'll move into the apartment on Zeek and Cam's property.

I know Victor finally called Julia "Mom" and I'd like to hope it's smooth sailing from now on, but I have my doubts. Victor's older and Syd is just a brat. There's bound to be more trouble ahead. Nothin' Joel and Julia can't handle, though.

Artists I'd like to see record at The Luncheonette: Milo Greene, Seryn, or Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. They'd all be a great bunch of folks to see bouncing around the studio.

Manti Te'o admits to lying about girlfriend

Manti Te'o has admitted he lied about the dead girlfriend who turned out to be a fake, but only briefly – and he swears he was not in on the hoax.

Manti Te'o Katie Couric interview

Notre Dame football star Manti Te'o spoke on camera for the first time about the dead girlfriend hoax that has blemished his name, and while he admits lying about it, he says it was only briefly and that he had nothing to do with creating the story.

Te'o said he had no idea his online girlfriend Lennay Kekua wasn't real until he received a phone call from someone purporting to be her months after her purported death.

After he figured out he had been duped, he continued to talk about his so-called girlfriend to the press during his campaign for the Heisman Trophy.

Manti Te'o denies he was in on girlfriend hoax>>

"You stuck to the script. And you knew that something was amiss, Manti," Couric pressed.

"Katie, put yourself in my situation. I, my whole world told me that she died on Sept. 12. Everybody knew that. This girl, who I committed myself to, died on Sept. 12," Te'o said.

"Now I get a phone call on Dec. 6, saying that she's alive and then I'm going be put on national TV two days later. And to ask me about the same question. You know, what would you do?"

Manti's father Brian Te'o defended his son. "People can speculate about what they think he is. I've known him 21 years of his life. And he's not a liar. He's a kid," he said.

NFL player: I met Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend>>

Diane O'Meara, the marketing executive whose images were used as the face of Kekua, said she had no role in the hoax either.

"I've never met Manti Te'o in my entire life. I've never spoke with him. I've never exchanged words with him," O'Meara said.

The man accused of creating the hoax, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, has yet to talk to the press.
