Mrs. Garrett tells all about the "facts of life"

Actress Charlotte Rae, best known as the 1980s sitcom character Mrs. Garrett of The Facts of Life, is shopping a new tell-all book to publishers. The memoir reveals shocking information about her 25-year marriage to composer John Strauss.

CharlotteRaememoir

"You take the good/you take the bad/you take them both and there you have/the facts of life." That's how the old theme song went to the popular 1980s show, and now star Charlotte Rae, who played Mrs. Garrett, has a tell-all book coming out that highlights the highs and lows of her life.

The 86-year-old actress is currently seeking a publisher for her new book titled The Facts of My Life. The memoir chronicles not only her life on the hit sitcom, but also her 25-year marriage to Hollywood composer John Strauss.

Their marriage ended in 1975, but not before Strauss admitted to being gay and unfaithful to Rae. The couple had two kids together during the marriage.

In an excerpt shared with Page Six, Rae wrote, "First came the shock of what he had done behind my back, then the sting of being deceived for years. All I could feel was the betrayal and, worse than that, my shame."

Her ex-husband passed away in 2011, and was best known for his Grammy award-winning soundtrack to the film Amadeus.

The book will also highlight Rae's time on Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life, where she shared much time with young children and teens. She mentions in the book that it was a "strange experience" when "all of my peers are teenagers."

The timing of Rae's book is impeccable since Hollywood lost Diff'rent Strokes star Conrad Bain last week, and The Facts of Life star Lisa Welchel recently returned to the spotlight after a stint on Survivor. There's no doubt that classic 1980s sitcom fans will be clamoring to read a tell-all book from the beloved Mrs. Garrett.

Music review: Kristen Kelly "He Loves to Make Me Cry"

$

Why is it that when I first see a title about a man making a woman cry it must mean something negative? In Ms. Kelly's latest song, these are tears of joy streaming down her cheeks.

Brad Paisley had Kristen Kelly as a part of his Virtual Reality World Tour.

Brad Paisley knows a good thing when he sees it. Maybe that's why he has Kristen Kelly as a part of his Virtual Reality World Tour.

Does she do the name "Kelly" justice?

Maybe I am still reeling from the inaugural performance Beyonce belted out, but women with voices like that — fiery and fearless — must be commended. Now, Kristen Kelly is not a Beyonce, but may remind you of another Kelly with a similar tone: Kelly Clarkson. While the jury is out on whether Kristen could go toe-to-toe with Madame Clarkson range-wise, this song stylistically sounds like it could be a bonus track off one of her albums. But there's a striking difference in the almost-provacative lyrics that are certainly not in Kelly Clarkson's portfolio.

Some lyrics leave little to the imagination

"Then we went upstairs
And he took his time
Took me to a place
Some women never find
Showed me how it feels
To mean everything to him"

Is it warm in here? 'Cause I'm sweating. She describes such a raunchy subject so romantically. She describes her love and admiration eloquently, passionately and fervently. It's a little awe-inducing, and if anything, gives us all hope for a love like that. Clearly, something — or someone — inspired her to sing it with such fire.

Taste of Country indicated she is actually the author of such intricate lyrics, with the assistance of Paul Overstreet and Even Stevens, and goes on to even say, "...this is a performance to marvel." And it certainly is. You will be consumed by her vocal entrapment and enjoy every moment of it.

Before I cue the applause, I have to admit, I was longing for more of a musical build and drop to really drive the magnitude of feeling home, but its acoustic likeness made the burning lyrics the focal point. It isn't often you hear songs like this. I can remember a few Shania Twain and Celine Dion songs running this direction, but it is such a pleasing thought to read that songs like this are reappearing on the radio waves.

What do you think, readers? What were your first thoughts on Ms. Kelly's track?

Katherine Webb dives back into the spotlight

Katherine Webb, girlfriend of Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, didn't stay away from the spotlight too long. She joins the cast of ABC's Celebrity Diving.

KatherineWebbCelebrityDiving

After becoming the hottest Hollywood sensation, thanks to a passing televised comment by Brent Musburger at the BCS championship game, what's a girl to do? Join the cast of the upcoming ABC show, Celebrity Diving.

The move seems a bit odd. After all, Webb seemed a bit publicity-shy following the huge press onslaught. A.J. McCarron's girlfriend did an interview with The Today Show and then retreated away from the media.

However, TMZ has the photos and is exclusively reporting that Miss Alabama USA is a part of the cast. This news should certainly make sportscaster Musburger happy, as Webb will have to don a bathing suit to dive into the water.

This upcoming show should not be confused with the recent special on FOX, Stars in Danger: The High Dive, which featured celebrities like tWitch from So You Think You Can Dance, Kyle Richards from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and NFL player Terrell Owens.

ABC's show is slated to premiere on March 19 and will feature a weekly competition that gets increasingly more difficult as the season progresses. The celebrities are coached by a professional diver.

Other famous faces who will be diving into chlorine include former Playboy Playmate Kendra Wilkinson, The Cosby Show star Keshia Knight Pulliam and NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

There is no word on how Alabama quarterback McCarron feels about his girlfriend's participation in the show, since there were rumors that he did not enjoy her time in spotlight. However, he couldn't be too upset if she's currently filming the competition reality show.

There is one big question though: why does Hollywood want its C-list stars diving into water so badly? Two shows, two networks — and a whole lot of wet heads.

How The Following lured Kevin Bacon to TV

$

The Following brings heart-stopping drama back to Fox. The series is led by Kevin Bacon, an actor mostly known for his film work. This show marks the first time he's appeared as a primetime regular. How did that happen?

Kevin Bacon

Kevin Bacon is no spring chicken. He's been acting professionally since the late '70s. After appearing in cult classics like Animal House and Friday the 13th, he got his breakout role in 1984's Footloose. Since then, he's been a staple on the big screen.

Movie review: Footloose>>

Three decades into his career, Bacon's making the leap to television. He's not the first film actor to make the small screen their home. Kiefer Sutherland did it with 24, and Charlie Sheen with Spin City and Two and a Half Men.

According to CNN, Bacon believes TV is creatively booming.

Kevin Bacon tackles technology in TV drama>>

“I was finding myself to be more and more of a TV consumer as the quality and writing of the shows seemed to get better and better,” Bacon said. “I found myself really knocked out by so many shows.”

At the moment, hard-hitting dramas like Breaking Bad and Homeland have caught Bacon's attention. The leads on both shows are troubled characters, and he wanted that for himself.

“I wanted to do something that was about life and death,” he said. “When I was trying to choose a series, I wanted to be the hero. I wanted the character to be complex and flawed, because that’s the kind of [hero] that I like to play. That’s the kind of [hero] that I like to see.”

The Following centers on a cat and mouse game between former FBI agent Ryan Hardy and Joe Carroll . Carroll's the leader of a cult of killers who happily do his bidding.

“We are making a thriller, and it’s a tense, fast-paced, exciting thriller that has a lot of moments that are a real surprise, and that’s really what hit me when I was reading the script,” he continued. “I honestly wasn’t even looking for something on network [TV]. … I found it to be such a page-turner.”

The Following premieres tonight at 9/8c on Fox.

Mariel Hemingway's family curse: Running from Crazy

Mariel Hemingway's facing the family curse head-on. The granddaughter of acclaimed author Ernest Hemingway has opened up about her mental illness fears, suicide and her new documentary, Running from Crazy.

Mariel Hemingway

Mariel Hemingway fears her famous family has something dreadful in common with the Kennedys: a curse. Rather than keep quiet, however, the actress has given her lineage the documentary treatment in Running from Crazy.

"We were, sort of, the other American family that had this horrible curse," Mariel Hemingway recently told CNN of her family's history of mental illness and suicide.

You may recall the 51-year-old's grandfather, famed author Ernest Hemingway, killed himself months before she was born, and her sister Margaux died of a barbiturate overdose in 1996. In total, seven members of the star's family have taken their own lives.

"Knowing that there's so much suicide and so much mental illness in my family, I've always kind of been 'running from crazy,' worried that one day I'd wake up and be in the same position," she is quoted as saying in the film.

More celebrity health news from SheKnows>>

"Suicide has no rhyme or reason," Hemingway continued. "Some people think about it for years and plan it. Some people, it's 20 dark minutes of their life that they decide to take their life that comes out of the blue. It's very random, it's very frightening."

Why make a documentary focused on her family's dark past? Mariel Hemingway hopes Running from Crazy will give people everywhere permission to express their own "stuff," to realize they're "not alone in the world of dysfunction."

"I think people need to talk about it a lot," the actress, who says she is happy and healthy today, explained. "Making it OK that it's in your family... It doesn't shame anyone, and it doesn't make anybody's family an ugly, bad family."

Here's a look at Mariel Hemingway chatting about her documentary, which premiered Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival, at the Silver Linings Playbook premiere:

The Walking Dead's Andrea finally gets a clue

The Walking Dead's done keeping Andrea in the dark. When the show returns, she'll be brought up to speed on the horrors of Woodbury. Andrea will be enlightened, armed and dangerous.

Laurie Holden

We're only weeks away from The Walking Dead's midseason premiere. The drama left us with an epic cliffhanger. Daryl and his big brother Merle were forced to fight each other — gladiator style. And Andrea  watched in horror.

Fear the living in Season 3 of The Walking Dead>>

While their lives hang in the balance, Andrea is shocked by The Governor's despicable behavior. His treatment of Daryl underscores the devious side viewers have seen for months.

You'll never see how The Walking Dead began>>

According to The Hollywood Reporter, expect Andrea to have a new outlook on The Governor.

Holden explains, "Andrea's eyes are now opening; she had no idea that Rick and the others were still alive. Now she's learning that the group is not only alive but that one of her friends has been captured by the man she's been romantically involved with. Her head is exploding."

Now that Andrea knows the truth, what's her next move? She's stuck between a rock and a hard place. But don't count her out. Holden insists Andrea isn't as blind as some might think.

"Andrea has a really good sense of character, and she loves Rick's group," she adds. "She doesn't know they're at the prison, so she's got a lot of catching up to do. But I can guarantee you that what she does, her heart is in the right place."

The Walking Dead returns Feb. 10 at 9/8c on AMC.

How do you think Andrea will react to the truth?

Tired of politics? Books to help you appreciate the USA

$

If you're tired of politics, tired of the gridlock and Congress and all that jazz, then the inauguration of President Barack Obama is probably something you'll choose to skip. If that's the case, here are three books that will help remind you why the Presidency is actually great.

Wolf Hall cover

Wolf Hall
Hilary Mantel

If you've just about had it up to "here" with all things president- and politics-related, then how about giving history a try? Perhaps you'll see just how good we actually have it now, living in a democracy. Hilary Mantel's critically-acclaimed Wolf Hall follows the career of Thomas Cromwell, secretary to Henry VIII, who helped engineer the notorious king's divorce from his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, in order to marry Anne Boleyn. It's the first volume in a trilogy, and though it can be hard to get into, Mantel captures the intricacies and intrigue present in court life perfectly. It's a whole different kind of politics, but one that may make you appreciate what we have now.

Arcadia cover

Arcadia
Lauren Groff

Perhaps you've threatened to move to a commune in order to escape the constant bickering on every news channel, the talking heads yelling about Congress, the debt ceiling, the fiscal cliff, gun control, and everything else under the sun. How about escaping into Arcadia, Lauren Groff's latest novel? It's set in the 1960s, in a commune called Arcadia, in upstate New York. The main character, Bit, grew up on the commune, but he can see the hypocrisy contained within its leader. Reading Arcadia will definitely make you think twice before you actually pack your bags to escape.

Assassination Vacation cover

Assassination Vacation
Sarah Vowell

The title of this one is a little shocking when it comes to presidents, and its subject matter is, as well: Sarah Vowell, self-proclaimed American history geek, revels in "historical traveling", or going on trips that are connected with history. In Assassination Vacation the objects of her morbid curiosity are presidential assassinations. A dark subject, but Vowell's wit and humor make history entertaining, and the little details and tidbits she imparts are simply fascinating. It's enough to make anyone excited about history, and once again learn to love and appreciate the country we live in. If you want an extra treat, listen to Assassination Vacation in audiobook form. Vowell's distinctive voice may take some adjustment, but once you're used to it, you'll realize that it's by far the best way to consume any of Sarah Vowell's books.

The Carrie Diaries recap: Sex, lies and somewhat good intentions

Carrie lies her way through a new episode of The Carrie Diaries. But does it all work out in the end?

The Carrie Diaries Sebastian and Carrie

Our second episode of The Carrie Diaries was a dramatic one... even for Carrie's friends and family.

Walt and Maggie continued to face struggles. They've dated for two years and Maggie is upset because she and Walt still haven't had sex. Not that it should really ffaect her — she's doing her own side thing with a local police officer. When Walt finally considers sleeping with her and shows up at her house, he waits hours before she finally returns home. He breaks up with her. Those of us who have read the book , are actually 100% proud of him for this.

The Carrie Diaries Carrie sulks

Meanwhile, Donna continues to try to get her claws into Carrie's first boy-du-jour, Sebastian Kidd. While they do manage to have a foggy evening outside the country club, nothing happens. Donna sure tries to make it look like it, though, when she shows up with Kidd's jacket. While they almost seem to be okay, Carrie ends up canceling on Sebastian's date to the Blue Oyster Cult concert. Who will end up being his back-up date?

Sebastian's not the only person Carrie lets down. In the process of trying to keep Kidd, she lets down Dorrit by not keeping her promise to hang out. She also lets down her dad by lying and skipping on out on her last day of grounding.

She almost lets Larissa down, as well, but with a couple more lies and some quick thinking, Carrie is able to pull off a quick jaunt from her NYC internship so she can lend Larissa her purse for a photoshoot. Pretty awesome.

In the end, Sebastian is the only one in Carrie's life who is left in the lurch. She spends time bonding with Mouse and Maggie, as well as Dorrit. She manages to pull off getting all her work done for her internship and she butters up her boss with a Dior scarf. She even keeps her promise to her dad by not going out with Sebastian after he tells her not to see the bad boy.

Carrie's doing her best to be responsible, while still trying to be a normal teenager. But how long can she keep it all together?

Michelle Obama's Inaugural Ball dress designer is...

It's official: First Lady Michelle Obama opted for a ruby red Jason Wu gown for the 2013 Inaugural Ball.

Michelle Obama's red Jason Wu gown

First Lady Michelle Obama made designer Jason Wu into a household name when she opted to wear one of his creations to the 2009 Inaugural Ball. Well, he better be ready for superstardom: Michelle again opted to wear one of his gowns at the 2013 Inaugural Ball.

"I can't believe it. It's crazy," Wu told CBS News Monday night. "To have done it once was already the experience of my life. To have a second time is tremendous."

The ruby red halter gown was adorned with real diamonds — a collaboration with jeweler Kimberly McDonald.

"For this occasion, it had to be real diamonds," Wu said.

Obama added Jimmy Choo shoes and a Kimberly McDonald ring to complete the look.

Not that her husband, President Barack Obama, cares that much. He told the crowd that his wife "makes me a better man and a better president."

"I'm lucky to have her," he added.

All together now: Awww!

The pair danced as Jennifer Hudson sang Al Green's "Let's Stay Together."

We knew M.O. would knock it out of the park during the Ball, especially since she looked so fab during President Obama's swearing-in ceremony on Monday morning. The 49-year-old opted for a Thom Browne coat, J.Crew dress and belt.

Want to get some of it for yourself?

Well, you can't: The Browne coat was custom made, and the J.Crew belt has already sold out.

In Iron Man 3, Tony Stark's paranoid and traumatized

Has Tony Stark lost his touch? In this summer's Iron Man 3, we'll see a different side of the hero. The cocky and self-assured Stark is no more. His dangerous lifestyle has finally worn him down.

Robert Downey Jr

For Iron Man 3, Tony Stark will take things down a notch. The witty and arrogant billionaire has changed his tune. After battling inter-galactic creatures in The Avengers, the hero was left shaken.

Iron Man 3 trailer leaves Stark shaken, not stirred>>

This May, Stark will return for a solo adventure. With no team support, his paranoia is at an all-time high.

Marvel chief Kevin Feige told MTV, "It's almost like post-traumatic stress: He really has retreated after the events of The Avengers into his workshop, where he's building advanced versions of his suits. He has [designed] a version of the suit that can latch onto him in individual pieces... anytime, anywhere."

Speaking of his armor, it's become a crutch. Stark doesn't leave home without it.

"As he starts to realize, it's basically because he doesn't want to be out of the suit: he's seen a lot of things in Avengers and has encountered a lot of powerful people, much more powerful than he is."

Iron Man 3 and Thor:The Dark World 3D plots>>

There's a pivotal scene in The Avengers where Steve Rogers questions Stark's skills and honor. He asks, "Big man in a suit of armour. Take that off, what are you?" We'll get the answer in Iron Man 3.

Feige continued, "Much of the movie is Tony in the middle of the country without his tools and a fairly broken suit to help him. But that's his superpower: he wasn't born on Asgard, he wasn't hit by gamma rays and he doesn't have the super-soldier serum. His power is his brain."

Super Bowl party home decor ideas

For most football games, a giant TV and some cheap beer will do. But this is the Super Bowl. It’s time to step up your game and we have the party ideas to help you do it.
Football on TV

For most football games, a giant TV and some cheap beer will do. But this is the Super Bowl. It's time to step up your game, and we have the party ideas to help you do it.

Make your home-gating feel like tailgating

If you'll have fans of both teams over, divide the watching party room in two by decorating each side with the competing teams' colors. If everyone's in agreement about who the winner will be, decorations for one team are fine.

armchairExtra armchair quarterbacks

If you're throwing a Super Bowl party, chances are, you'll need extra seating. No one wants to sit on the floor or on hard kitchen or folding chairs, so try buying a few canvas chairs in team colors. You can go generic , but we like these team logo chairs with a four-can cooler in one arm and a cup holder in the other . They can also be used for outdoor tailgating.

Show your true colors

Don't forget the walls when you're decorating for game day. It can go a long way to setting the spirited mood. Try buying inexpensive football jerseys to hang on the wall with wall-mounting tape . Save the expensive official NFL-logo jerseys and apparel to wear on game day.

Cooler from the NFL shopFunctional tables

With all the extra seating, you'll likely need more places for partiers to put their beer and plates while cheering or tweeting their disgust at the ref's last call. Coolers are usually used for outdoor parties, but they make a functional additional table while home-gating. You can store extra beer inside .

Coleman sells coolers in a variety of colors and sizes, so you can always get your team colors into the mix. You can buy them at places like Walmart and Target or online.

If you already have a cooler that isn't in your team colors, there's no need to buy another. You can purchase NFL-logo cooler covers for less money than you'd pay for a cooler in the size you need.

For a little extra football whimsy, cut little circles or squares out of astroturf or little football shapes out of brown cabinet liner mounted to football-shaped cardboard to serve as coasters.

Prep the field

You'll likely be serving a lot of appetizers and beverages, so you'll need a designated table where you can serve it up. We recommend purchasing an inexpensive foldable table to set up near the action and covering it with Con-tact Chalkboard paper

Cover one side with astroturf and set up your goodies on that end of the table. Leave the other end open and lay out some chalk for your guests to draw out plays they'd like to see.

Serve with team pride

convenient snack helme

A great place to add extra team spirit to your party's decor is the dishes you serve with. You can buy anything from cheese trays to barware featuring NFL team logos. We like this convenient snack helmet as a centerpiece for chips and dips .

In addition to the dishes, you'll want team-colored plastic plates, cups, bowls , napkins and plasticware. You can always buy generic, but these items aren't expensive to buy with team logos, either.

For drink markers, set out a series of plastic whistles in various colors with small bits of twine looped through the eyelet for people to mark beer bottles and wine glasses . For guests not drinking alcohol, provide markers or crayons to write their name on the cup .

To make it an extra special occasion, you can get your guests a special souvenir. Buy team logo or official Super Bowl XLIV bar glasses and fill them with candies wrapped with your team's colors.

Blogging basics: What to write about

You are blogging and loving it, except for those days when you're staring at a blank screen without a new idea in sight. Try these tips for generating a neverending list of things to blog about.

Woman blogging from home

Trying to maintain a blog can be hard work, especially if you've committed yourself to a regular blogging schedule. One week you may have more ideas than you can put into a post, and the next week you might be out of inspiration, racking your brain for things to write about. Here are a few ways to make sure you are never out of blog fodder.

Tip: Looking for some inspirational bloggers to follow? Visit these bloggers with breast cancer to see how these amazing women do it all.

Read about writing

This may sound like more work, but reading a few good books about the art of writing may give you a fresh perspective and insight into what to write about and how to go about it for weeks and years to come. Books such as Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott, Steven King's On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft and Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within by Natalie Goldberg may leave you inspired for the rest of your blogging career.

Memes or link-ups

Many blogs and websites host regular link-ups where a general topic or theme is given and bloggers are encouraged to post about that topic and then share their links. Participating in link-ups is not only a great way to count on regular inspiration, but it is also a fantastic networking tool and an opportunity to meet new bloggers and increase the number of visitors to your blog. There are more link-ups out there than we could list, but here are a few to try:

Tip: If you are trying to decide if a blogging conference is right for you, the digital mom's guide to blogging conferences is just the place to start.

Writing prompts

A great way to find new ideas for your blog is to follow writing prompts. There are sites out there that give you a weekly or biweekly prompt, email you a new idea every day or generate a word for you to write about with the click of a button. Here are a few sites that give regular writing prompts:

Even without prompts, link-ups or books, you can look into your own life for inspiration. Mary Lauren Weimer, writer and blogger at Sweet Bitter says, "One thing I've learned is to 'look for the lessons.' What experiences have I had recently that gave me insight into life and motherhood? Did a conversation with a friend spark some kind of realization? That usually leads to good writing material."

10 Ways to retain and boost your collagen level

Collagen is one of the essential building blocks to smooth, healthy skin, but as we age, collagen diminishes, eventually leading to fine lines and loss of volume. It sucks, we know, but we also have some great tips on how to boost collagen levels in your skin and retain what you’ve got.
Woman with beautiful skin

Secrets to more youthful skin

Collagen is one of the essential building blocks to smooth, healthy skin, but as we age, collagen diminishes, eventually leading to fine lines and loss of volume. It sucks, we know, but we also have some great tips on how to boost collagen levels in your skin and retain what you’ve got.

We asked Austin-based cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Steven Zimmet, who works with some of the biggest celebrities and high-profile names in the area, for his best tips for boosting and retaining collagen.

1

Practice safe sunning

One of the best ways to retain collagen is to protect skin from the sun, so it's important to apply sunscreen daily. “Ultraviolet radiation from the sun increases skin cancer risk and aging of the skin, including age spots, broken capillaries, wrinkles and coarsening of the skin,” says Zimmet. “Probably about 80 percent of our skin aging is due to the effects of the sun.” He also suggests wearing a large brim hat and protective clothing to further minimize damage from the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

2

Avoid tanning beds

We hope that no one is still risking their health by using tanning beds, but if you are, stop for the sake of your skin. “Although they don’t use UVB rays, and thus sunburns are avoided, the UVA rays they do use penetrate more deeply, and contribute to both skin cancer risk and aging of the skin,” explains Zimmet.

3

Eat well

What you eat can play a significant role in your skin health and your skin’s ability to retain and create new collagen, says Zimmet. “A diet high in antioxidants, fruits and vegetables, is a fundamental way to preserve our collagen and other tissues, and improve our ability to make new collagen,” he explains.

4

Butt out

ciggaratte

If you haven’t resolved to stop smoking yet, we suggest you do — for your health and your skin. “Avoid smoking, which contributes to collagen degradation as well as reducing the ability to make new collagen,” says Zimmet.

5

Apply a good topical antioxidant

We know eating foods rich in antioxidants can be good for the skin but you can also apply them topically . ”There is strong evidence that a good topical antioxidant reduces the injury effects of ultraviolet rays that get through a sunscreen, and some UV rays always gets through a sunscreen,” explains Zimmet.

6

Use retinoids

One of the best ways to reduce the signs of aging and restore collagen is with retinoids. “Retinoids boost collagen production, and diminish fine lines and age spots,” says Zimmet. “There is probably more evidence that these are effective at reducing signs of aging than any other ‘anti-aging’ cream.”

7

Think about Botox

While Botox won’t increase collagen, it helps preserve your existing collagen, says Zimmet. “The muscular contractions used to make expressions crunch and damage collagen over time,” he explains. “Since Botox relaxes muscles of facial expression in the crow’s feet, forehead and frown areas, there is less damage to existing collagen.”

8

Look into ultherapy

A non-surgical way to lift, tighten and tone skin, ultherapy uses high intensity ultrasound to tighten existing collagen and boost new collagen production, explains Zimmet. The procedure is non-invasive and is sometimes referred to as a “non-surgical facelift.”

9

Try radiofrequency treatment

Another non-surgical way to fight the signs of aging and keep skin looking younger is radiofrequency treatment. “This treatment delivers radiofrequency energy to the lower layers of the skin to tighten collagen and stimulate new collagen formation,” explains Zimmet.

10

Fractional laser resurfacing

If you’re looking to improve the appearance of your skin, this treatment could be for you. “It's a laser treatment to tighten skin, boost collagen production to reduce fine lines, acne scars and reduce splotchy sun-damaged pigmentation,” says Zimmet.

Embarassed woman in bed

Oh no you didn't!

Almost everyone we know has a hilarious, embarrassing or downright awful sex story up their sleeve. Whether it was a one-night stand gone wrong or a first time in the sack that left something to be desired, we’re taking a look at some of the funniest sex stories we’ve heard in a while. If you have one to add, make sure you leave us a comment!

The pass-out princess

“I was so excited to go on a third date with this guy I really liked and figured this would be the night where we slept together. But I was also really nervous about it since I hadn’t been with a guy since my ex the year before, so I started drinking as soon as we got to the restaurant — and didn’t stop. By the time we got to his place and he was trying to get my bra off, I must have passed out in his bed! He was really sweet about it the next day and even teased me a bit, but my hangover combined with passing out on him really made me feel disgusting. At least I didn’t puke on him.” Meghan, Calgary, Alberta

Injury prone

“I learned the hard way that it’s not always a good thing to be adventurous in bed. My boyfriend and I were just getting warmed up, kissing and stuff and I decided to slide around from being on the bottom to being on top. But mid-slide I thought I would add a bit of what I thought was a sexy high kick. Well, it turned out he lifted his head up just as I was kicking and I ended up breaking his nose. There was blood everywhere and he kind of freaked out. Not a good end to our night.” Sasha, Brooklyn, New York

Allergies ruin everything

“So I decided to buy a new vibrator and introduce it while me and this guy I was dating were in bed. I hadn’t tried it before he came over, but my friend had one and she swore by how amazing it was. But what I didn’t realize is that whatever type of rubber or plastic the thing was made out of caused me to break out in serious hives. Once we started using it, I realized I was really itchy and then all of a sudden I got all these lumps on the inside of my thighs, which kind of killed the mood, not to mention it was super-embarrassing.” Kayla, Park City, Utah

When I got to his place, I was surprised to find his wife there, ready for the two of us to jump into
bed for a threesome

Caught — by his parents

"I went home with this guy I met at a bar in college and he took me to what I thought was his house. I was pretty tipsy at this point so I didn’t really pay too much attention to where we were going or what the place looked like. It turned out he lived with his parents and while we were having sex on the couch, they walked in and his mom screamed. I basically fell off the couch, grabbed what clothes I could find and ran out. I never did get my other sock back."Maia, Orlando, Florida

Three’s a crowd

"I once agreed to go home with a guy who I’d seen out a few times and always thought was pretty hot but we never actually dated. We were at a bar with a bunch of other people and he kind of singled me out and bought me a bunch of drinks. Since he seemed so into me, I decided to go with the flow. When I got to his place, I was surprised to find his wife there, ready for the two of us to jump into bed for a threesome. I know this would turn some people on, but I turned right around and left! I haven’t seen the guy since."Courtney, Santa Fe, New Mexico

New Community trailer: Finally!

Guys! The return of Community is just around the corner and we've got a first look at what's ahead.

Community returns!

The first sign that our wait is nearly over has finally come: There's a brand spankin' new trailer for Season 4's premiere episode of Community. As expected, it's a good one, too. Watch as Dean tries to settle a tough registration snafu/hack with some old school gladiator-style moves in the latest trailer...

Community fans have waited a long time for this day to come. Instead of just the usual summer break, the return of the cult comedy didn't return in the fall when everyone else came back. I didn't return directly after the new year, either. Instead, fans have been held captive — for the past five months in eager anticipation. Now, with the Feb. 7 arrival date quickly approaching, our first look at the all new season is finally upon us.

The Hunger Games parody shown in the brand-new trailer is only the beginning of the madness, too. Everyone just knows it. If you need more proof, though, here's another fantastic sneak peek on what's ahead on Community's fourth season...

It looks like this season will be yet another great season of laughs for the Glendale seven... even if, by the end of the season, they'll be whittled down to six after the departure of Chevy Chase.

Community returns Feb. 7 at 8/7c on NBC. We know you're ready and waiting.

Rain, rain, go away... don’t ruin my good hair day! When the weather is wild and unpredictable, there are days where an umbrella just doesn't cut it in terms of protecting your hairstyle. We've polled our users and Facebook fans to find out the best tips for keeping your ‘do in check when Mother Nature has a mood swing.

Jennifer Aniston with wavy hair

Wavy lady

If your hair has even the slightest natural curl or wave, your best bet is to go au naturel. You can use the damp weather to boost your natural waves with a sea salt spray like Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. Spritz it on damp locks before heading out the door. Gusts of wind will help enhance the natural appeal of this style, maybe giving you a boost in volume. When your locks are subject to raindrops, just scrunch with your hands to revive your waves. Easy, chic and fast!

Taylor Swift's straight hair

Help for straightened hair

We know that, for many women, nothing comes between you and your straightener. We get it! If the weather can’t keep you from your favorite style, you need a product to help with frizz. One of our Facebook fans suggested Redken’s Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk, which smooths even the thickest, coarsest hair.

Jennifer Lopez with a sock bun

Weather-proof updo

Sock buns and top knots are both great styles to wear when the weather gets gross. Keeping hair off of your neck and out of your face will make you feel more comfortable and less worried about your style. The right finishing product is key for any long lasting style and Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Firm Hairspray protects hair, while the soy seals out humidity.

Fergie with a ponytail

When all else fails

Sometimes the weather is so bad that no hair product or umbrella can save your style. Just in case, carry an elastic and a few bobby pins so you can quickly create a ponytail or messy updo once you’ve arrived at your destination. By wrapping a strand of hair around your elastic, your ponytail becomes instantly chic and appropriate for the office or a date.

Take that, Mother Nature!

Drinking with Men

Drinking with Men: A Memoir
By Rosie Schaap

What is it about a neighborhood bar in a big city that invites camaraderie? In her youth, Rosie Schaap spent many hours in bars in the company of male regulars, winding down from the stresses of the day and finding a homey place within the greater hustle and bustle of the outside world. In her memoir, Drinking with Men, Schaap muses about the friendships formed and secrets shared in the dark, noisy corners of taverns in a number of cities, including New York and Dublin. More than just a treatise on drinking, her memoir is also a kind of coming-of-adulthood, as Schaap recalls a conversation in a Montreal bar that changed the course of her life. This fascinating memoir sheds light on the unique cultural norms of local bar communities.

Serants' Hall

Servants' Hall: A Real-Life Upstairs, Downstairs Romance
By Margaret Powell

Part memoir and part biography, Margaret Powell's Servants' Hall tells the true story of the marriage between under-parlourmaid Rose to Mr. Gerald, the only son and heir of the wealthy British Wardham family. Powell offers a unique viewpoint of the scandal because she herself was in service and was in a position to see the repercussions on both the family and the staff. In the long-gone times immortalized in television shows like Downton Abbey, the social classes simply didn't mix; thus Rose and Gerald found themselves the fodder for gossip, shunned by the upper classes, and envied by the lower. Powell recounts the tale with both humor and sensitivity, giving us a taste of the way life used to be.

I, Rhoda

I, Rhoda
By Valerie Harper

Independent women were few and far between on prime-time television of the 1970s. Mary Richards and Rhoda Morgenstern of the Mary Tyler Moore Show were two of the exceptions. In her just-released memoir, I, Rhoda, Valerie Harper relates the story of how she, a Hollywood unknown, won the role that would change her life. She talks about the parallels between her onscreen and offscreen personas , her years on Broadway, and the many actors she befriended along the way. From the grind of working on weekly TV to nightly dancing on the New York stage, Harper's path hasn't always been smooth, but her bubbling personality and intelligent steadfastness steal the spotlight in this fascinating memoir.

pasta with tomatoes, pancetta, asparagus

When you're craving a hearty meal, pasta always hits the spot, especially when it's full of huge flavors. You'll go back to this recipe again and again.

Pasta with asparagus, pancetta and tomatoes recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 16 ounces short-cut pasta
  • 10 ounces asparagus, cut into inch-long pieces, tips separated
  • 6 ounces pancetta, cut into strips
  • 15 ounces canned tomato puree
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, quartered
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • Olive oil
  • Grated Pecorino romano
  • Parsley, chopped finely

Directions:

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. When it boils, add salt, then pasta. Cook according to package directions. Reserve cooking water for later use.
  2. Meanwhile, saute garlic and pancetta in a large saucepan with a drizzle of olive oil. When the garlic turns golden, discard. When the pancetta is crispy, remove from saucepan and set aside, reserving grease.
  3. Add the asparagus to the grease in the saucepan. Cook for 5 minutes. Add asparagus tips. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Add tomato puree. Cook for about 30 minutes on medium-low. If sauce seems dry, ladle in a small amount of pasta water to achieve desired consistency.
  5. Add cooked pasta to the sauce. Mix well, then remove from heat.
  6. Add pancetta, fresh tomatoes, grated pecorino romano and parsley. Toss and serve.

Whether you love your lattes with frothy art or prefer just a warm cup of really good coffee, each one of these five shops will satisfy your caffeinated craving.

Woman buying coffee in coffee shop

Even though Starbucks started the coffee revolution in this country, you will not find one on this list. We're paying homage to the mom-and-pop shops, the more revolutionary java joints. The places that serve simple espressos and uncomplicated lattes with a side of homemade jelly doughnuts and heart-warming nostalgia.

1

Café du Monde, New Orleans, Louisiana

This essential French Quarter cafe has been a NOLA staple since it first opened its doors in 1862. Although the smell of freshly frying beignets will lure you into the open-air French-style market, the rich, slightly spicy roasted coffee will keep you there for hours. One of the coffee's main spices, chicory, roots back to the Civil War era, and gives each cup of joe at Cafe du Monde a rich and spicy yet slightly chocolaty flavor. Plus, you can't beat the people-watching this cafe provides during Mardi Gras.

2

Blue Bottle, Oakland, California

Blue Bottle, which started as a small shop in Oakland, has become so popular with the hipsters and working crowd alike, they've opened 11 more shops across the country. The flagship bar in California is a must-go if you're a coffee aficionado. They only sell the freshest brew and use everything they make. In fact, the beans not sold in 48 hours are quickly put to use in the shop's handmade cups of joe. While you sip an organic cup, enjoy a fresh-made saffron snickerdoodle.

3

Madcap Coffee Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan

Grand Rapids is quickly becoming the go-to for not only craft beer, but for great coffee too! The Madcap Coffee Company, which started in 2008, has gained quite a few accolades in the city and across the country, like a coveted spot in Food & Wine's top coffee bar article. Not only is the coffee top rate, but the actual shop is full of natural light, exposed brick and cozy seating. Opt for a cup of their Six One Six blend, which is a fuller-bodied roast filled with comforting flavors.

4

Stumptown Coffee Roasters, Portland, Oregon

For a coffee shop to make it in the Pacific Northwest, it needs to be amazing, and Stumptown Coffee Roasters in downtown Portland is nothing short of that. For many, Stumptown is what gave Portland the reputation as a serious coffee city. Now with five locations, it's winning the hearts of locals and tourists alike. If you love flavored coffee, grab a cup of the Hair Bender, which is a mix of milk chocolate, caramel, jasmine, Meyer lemon and pineapple. Or for something more original, have a cup of the house blend, made with a blend of African and Latin American coffee beans.

5

Ninth Street Espresso, New York City, New York

If you want coffee the way it should be, with no fancy syrups or flavors, Ninth Street Espresso in NYC's trendy Lower East Side neighborhood is the place to go. They serve only 10 different drink options, from regular espresso to simple brewed coffee. For an extra morning jolt, get the double short ristretto espresso. You also can't go wrong with the pure and delicious six-ounce espresso with milk either. The coffee they brew is from other top coffee shops, like Stumptown and Intelligentsia in Los Angeles, so you know your cup will be good.
