More: 7 Celeb pregnancy updates that wowed, angered or shocked fans this week

Their daughter, Chanel Nicole, was born Nov. 28, and after the long wait of pregnancy, Coco has made it pretty clear that she's over-the-moon excited to be a first-time mom.

But the way she's deciding to show it? That's drawing some hate from fans, followers and other parents. When baby Chanel was only a day old, Coco made the newborn her own Twitter and Instagram accounts, and has been regularly sharing photos and updates with around 200,000 followers on each.

Coco's baby 3

It's a cute idea in theory. It allows Coco and Ice-T to share their baby's growth with their fans, many of whom would love to watch the new family grow up. And it keeps all those baby photos and updates in one place, where it could be really fun to look at them later.

But are the stars going too far when it comes to invading their new daughter's privacy? Celebrities already sacrifice a lot of their ability to lead normal, private lives just by being famous and, in turn, they end up making that sacrifice for their kids, as well. But some celebs have worked hard to keep their children out of the public eye until those children are old enough to decide for themselves whether fame is a lifestyle they want to pursue. Coco and Ice-T are doing the exact opposite.

Amid claims from some followers, Ice-T took to Twitter to fire back at those who are saying he and his wife are exploiting their child.

And amid the firestorm, Coco has continued to share photos, videos and updates on Chanel's social media accounts, including a recent video taken behind the scenes at the baby's first photo shoot, showing Chanel cuddled up to her mom's bare chest.

Shailene Woodley's forsaking her young fans for dark HBO show

More: Shailene Woodley's latest interview proves she's a very confused feminist

This reality became clear on Saturday, when it was announced that Woodley will be joining Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon in the HBO adaptation of Big Little Lies. The limited series is based on Liane Moriarty’s novel about a friendship between three mothers whose children attend kindergarten together. Woodley’s participation in the series was confirmed by Kidman during an interview at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit.

Variety describes Big Little Lies as a “darkly comic drama,” and with themes of bullying, intimate partner violence and murder, it is a major departure from the teen melodrama and adventure stories that have built much of Woodley’s career. Though some fans might be worried that the actress is leaving her base behind, fear not: She is still slated to star in Allegiant, the third film in The Divergent Series, which is scheduled to hit theaters next March.

More: Ultimate holiday book gift guide: 16 Books you should gift this year

However, it’s important to note that Big Little Lies is not a one-off choice for Woodley. In fact, it appears to be part of a larger career shift for her; next spring, she will costar opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Oliver Stone’s film Snowden, playing Lindsay Mills, Edward Snowden’s girlfriend. Woodley appears to be cultivating her career in a similar vein as Jennifer Lawrence’s, with a healthy balance of teen romances and big-budget franchises alongside character dramas and dark, adult stories.

Woodley keeps her social media presence to a minimum, so she has yet to share her own news and updates about her involvement in Big Little Lies. Curious fans should keep their eyes on her Twitter profile, however — production on the series starts in January, so she might be sharing more at that time. And while a specific premiere date has yet to be set, viewers should expect to see Big Little Lies showing up on HBO later in 2016.

Clueless Fox News correspondent finally goes too far

The Clueless actress is no stranger to controversy when it comes to discussing her views. But she went too far on Monday, Dec. 7, at least for Fox News. On the show Outnumbered, Dash got fired up while talking about the president's speech addressing terrorism and the San Bernardino shooting.

More: Stacey Dash's response to Patricia Arquette's Oscars speech is embarrassing

She called the president's speech an "epic fail" and continued by saying she'd hoped that the president would've made her feel safe and "better." She continued by saying that she didn't think the president "gave a shit."

Swearing made Fox News give a shiz enough to suspend her for two weeks. She typically spends one week per month as a commentator on Outnumbered.

More: Stacey Dash tries to debate with Meredith Vieira on live TV — and fails (VIDEO)

Coincidentally, she wasn't the only Fox News commentator who got in trouble today. On the Fox Business Network, Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Peters used vulgarity to describe Obama as weak on terrorism.

Bill Shine, Fox senior executive vice president said, “Earlier today, Fox contributors Lt. Col. Ralph Peters and Stacey Dash made comments on different programs that were completely inappropriate and unacceptable for our air. Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel do not condone the use of such language, and have suspended both Peters and Dash for two weeks.”

More: Stacey Dash can't understand the Mitt Romney fury

Obviously, terrorism is an issue that's important to all Americans, but there's no need to use inappropriate language on live TV.

At what point will it be enough for Fox News to say goodbye to Dash? The controversy probably helps ratings, but is it worth it? How many mistakes before she becomes too much of a liability?

We can all learn from our mistakes, but it takes understanding that you've done something wrong. Dash took to Twitter to share her thoughts about the situation and she has no regrets. "Consequences. Some of us have to pay them. Gladly."

IUD pregnancies are uncommon, but one woman proves they do happen

$

Less than one out of every 100 women get pregnant in the year after getting an IUD inserted, but like with any form of birth control, it can happen.

FABLife cohost Leah Ashley is one of those "less than one out of a 100." Though she is married, they weren't planning on getting pregnant, but that's exactly what happened earlier this year.

More: Over 100 women got pregnant from faulty birth control pills

"I had [a copper] IUD for four years without incident before I found out I was pregnant, early this March," Ashley told Glamour. "... I never thought I would be one of the very few women that this happens to. But even once I missed my period, I figured it had to do with stress. It wasn’t until I started feeling extra tired and my period was about two weeks late that I decided to take a pregnancy test. Even then, I assumed it would come back negative!"

With the pregnancy came worries that the baby wouldn't grow correctly because of the IUD — and then there was the very real chance of miscarriage.

More: North Carolina doctor creates treatment to reverse abortions

"For about a month, we didn’t know if the baby was forming in the correct place and there was a major risk of the baby forming in my fallopian tubes, which would have resulted in surgery," she said. Luckily, everything was OK and Ashley's now in the final weeks of her pregnancy.

"One concern still remains: preterm delivery. I am 32 weeks pregnant now, and I am hoping that he decides to stay put until 40 weeks," she said. Should her experience put you off IUDs? No. It's the birth control method that most female doctors go for themselves. However, it's important to do your research before you make any big decisions regarding your reproductive health.

More: There's a "UTI season," so you had better stock up on cranberry juice now

"I did a lot of research about other women who had experienced an IUD pregnancy and I had many long conversations with my doctor about the potential risks that my baby and I might face along the way," Ashley said. "... the 'one day at a time' motto has really kept me from becoming too overwhelmed and freaked out. If you can’t take it one day at a time, take it minute by minute... I’ve had those days as well."

Vanderpump Rules: 6 Reasons Lala needs to stay away from Jax

More: Vanderpump Rules: Why James is the new Jax at SUR

Who knows what will happen between the two, but I have advice for Lala: Run! Seriously, run as fast as you can, because Jax is not the answer. He doesn't make a great rebound, at least for Lala. If she gets upset with James for his lies and antics, Lala is not going to be able to deal with Jax. James might be trying to be the new Jax Taylor, but Jax is the OG. There's no doubt Lala can handle whatever James and Jax throw her way, but she shouldn't have to, nor does she deserve it.

Lala and Jax

Lala and Jax

With that said, here are a few reasons why Lala needs to stay away from Jax. I'm not saying they can't be friends, but romantically and intimately, he's not good for her. Here's solid proof.

1. He's a compulsive liar

If Lala hates James' lying, then she is in for a real treat with Jax. He majored in compulsive lying and will go above and beyond to keep the truth from her, whatever that entails.

2. He'll toss Lala to the curb in a heartbeat

After he "conquers" Lala, Jax will move on to someone else. Based on next Monday's promo, it sure looks like he's running back to Brittany. Even though Lala is just looking for fun, all the so-called fun she had with James ended horribly. Let's all imagine how her "fun" with Jax might end up.

3. Jax loves SUR drama

As Jax put it, Lala definitely got her "PhD in SUR," which she didn't like one bit. Well, if she hangs around Jax long enough it'll be part of her daily lifestyle.

More: Vanderpump Rules: 9 Times James lied in one episode

4. He'll mess with her head

Jax knows how to twist things and really mess with someone's head. Lala, heed this warning: Don't fall for his tricks and/or games.

5. Two names: James and Stassi

Not only will Lala have to deal with Jax's ridiculousness, but James will surely give her a difficult time. Not to mention, once Stassi returns, she'll most likely make Lala's business her own.

6. She can do so much better

Enough said.

Benedict Cumberbatch has an enlightening Christmas list

Benedict Cumberbatch wrote a letter to Santa Claus as part of the U.K.'s Letters Live series. In his letter, he outlines his adult wishes, as well as one from his childhood. Like most little boys who grew up with the original Star Wars movie, he wanted a light saber. But Santa was smart enough to know that lightsabers are way too dangerous for little boys like Cumberbatch.

More: The very important evolution of Benedict Cumberbatch's hair in 15 pics

Here is Cumberbatch's heartwarming, touching and lovely letter:

"Dear Father Christmas,

So my friend has asked me to write to you... I have to confess it's been hard to know what to say. Mainly because like most adults I feel preposterous asking anything of you because our time with you is surely done. Now we get our own presents, control our own fates, take responsibility for our own actions, and live in the world we have created... so it's not for us to turn around and plead for your help with the environment, the migrant crisis, the NHS, education, food banks, human rights, fundamentalism and wars. Though God knows we need all the help we can get with all these man-made problems and more.

And it's not that you aren't compassionate and full of joy. You're great. In spite of you being changed into different colors for corporations and being bastardized to represent materialism gone mad — despite probably originating in some season based pagan druid ritual a million thought miles from requests for spontaneously combusting hover boards... kidadults cynically pointing this out after having their moment of belief in you are wasting everyone's precious time. Because you are not for them. You are for the children. Children who need some magic in a world where the borders between innocence and responsibility, playful imagination and cold, adult obstacles are continually shrinking.

More: QUIZ: Can you name this Benedict Cumberbatch movie from one still?

This is what I'd like to ask you to help with. A little more time for children to be children. Stretch the moment of magic and playfulness. Distract them from the realities of a world gone mad so that they can laugh with their breath rather than sob with their tears. Especially those caring for family members, or suffering illness, hunger or poverty. Especially those hiding in buildings as bombs rain down, or being handed shaking with fear or cold into a boat to escape environmental disaster or war. Please help to light up their worlds with a moment of joy and hope.

When I think about it you've got it tough this year... and when I really think about it I'm not sure that asking you for a lightsaber and getting one (not that I ever did by the way) is equatable with controlling the space time continuum and making the good of childhood last a little longer.

More: 8 Times Benedict Cumberbatch has talked about sex

But you do inspire wonder and awe amongst those that write you letters and go to sleep hoping there might be a new object in their possession come dawn. You inspire good behavior and, at least in my memory, some desperate last minute attempts to redeem bad behavior so as not to be overlooked. Spare a thought too for those millions who want to write to you but through illiteracy can't. Hear their words and help to give them the time and chance to learn how to read and write so they can better their lives and escape their impoverished beginnings.

I feel a little sorry for you. And I guess I've done exactly what I said I wouldn't... asked you to help with adult problems and solve some of the greatest worries we have for our children. I promise to leave some extra port and mince pies for you!

Lots of love,

Benedict x

PS. Please could I have that lightsaber now?"

The Voice: Gwen Stefani's 5 strangest looks

$

Although her style has always been unique, Stefani's wardrobe and hair have been especially out there of late. These are just a few of the many odd looks she's exhibited on The Voice.

1. Asymmetrical hair and polka dots

Gwen Hair Swoop
Image: NBC

This is the ultimate in asymmetry. One arm is bare while the other is covered in red dots. A few critics claimed that her outfit featured way too much red, for not only did she have red dots on her top, she wore red leather pants and sat on a big red chair with a big red button.

2. Gwen meets Tron

Gwen Slicked Back

When Stefani wore this memorable getup, fans were largely split as to whether they thought it was a good look. It's by no means the most outlandish of Stefani's styles, but it does seem a bit severe for The Voice.

3. A major case of bedhead

Gwen Bedhead

Stefani seems to have a thing for hairstyles that probably take a fair amount of effort but ultimately end up looking sloppy. Stefani might have pulled off the 'do with a more casual outfit, but instead, she selected an ensemble that reminded viewers of Black Swan.

4. A denim jumpsuit straight out of 1992

Gwen and Taylor
Image: NBC

There's nothing wrong with nostalgia, but if Stefani really wanted to revisit '90s style, she could have chosen something with a bit less denim. The getup would have been strange enough on its own, but it especially looked unfortunate next to Taylor Swift's sleek black outfit.

5. Cindy Lou Who — just in time for the holidays

Gwen Braids
Image: NBC

Tonight, Stefani caused quite the uproar with her weird hairdo. Braids alone would have been unusual, but not too big of a deal, as would a messy bun. But the two hairstyles definitely should not have been combined. The end result was an outlandish and very unflattering look.

Every week, several fans of The Voice speak ill of Stefani's outfit or hairstyle. This week, however, the critics were even more vocal than usual. She was compared to everybody from Legolas to Cindy Lou Who. Highlighted below are a few of the more amusing tweets of the evening.

So what happens when you put them together? Cuteness explosion.

But you don't have to take our word for it. Shelby Turner was the recipient of one such proposal. "Crying because I got my puppy," she captioned a YouTube video, "little did I know my boyfriend had put a ring on her collar and got down on one knee!"

Supergirl's biggest problem is Kara's constant immaturity

$
0
0

Melissa Benoist is obviously adorable in the title role and, as an actor, works really well with the material she's given. The only problem is, the material Benoist is given to work with is better suited to an adolescent character instead of a 24-year-old professional woman who also happens to have superpowers.

The latest episode of Supergirl, "Human For a Day," highlighted the huge gaping problem with the program: For a show that spends so much time filling its dialogue with over-the-top feminist quips, Supergirl doesn't really paint its heroine in a positive light. In fact, if you strip away Supergirl's powers, instead of an empowered young woman, in her place all you would have is a wimpy girl with a crush.

More: 7 Reasons Supergirl's villains are disappointing to fans

In every episode, we're forced to experience awkward encounter after awkward encounter in which a twitterpated Kara practically twirls her hair and blushes every time James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) enters her air space, and "Human For a Day" was no different. Unfortunately, Kara's behavior around James has only gotten more pitiful since his girlfriend, Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan-Tatum), was introduced a couple episodes ago.

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 4

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 4

It's obvious that Kara's hurt that she can't be with James, and I get that it stings when your crush is with someone else, but after high school, you learn to swallow that shit or risk looking petty.

Side note: The above rant is not to say that I don't appreciate the presence of Mehcad Brooks in a tank top in Episode 7, because Lord knows I do.

Um, where was I? Oh, yeah.

To be fair, Winn is right along there with her. God, get over it, you two.

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 3

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 3

Also, Kara can't stop talking about Supergirl. There's nothing wrong with being confident and it's awesome that she thinks her own abilities are worth mentioning, but it's starting to get juvenile just how much she blabbers on about how great Supergirl is to other people.

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 1

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 1

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 2

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 2

Kara's reaction to not being able to save the dying man during the earthquake is also jarring. Being upset when unable to help fellow humans during a crisis is a normal response, but Kara throws a tantrum and then feels sorry for herself when put in the situation.

"I couldn't even save one man," she cries.

More: Supergirl vs. Jessica Jones: Why one superhero is way better than the other

Maybe Kara's demeanor is because of past events and/or her traumatic childhood. If that's the case, the writers need to show it. Fans have asked for more of Kara's backstory on social media. The Supergirl writers stand to gain a lot by layering the character and making her more real. If the writers want Supergirl to seem immature for her age, fine — but explain her pathology. Benoist has proven she's a strong actor; give her some more ammo to work with within her character.

Furthermore, it's only halfway through the first season, so why is Supergirl already losing her powers? Are the writers running out of story lines already? Sure, Clark Kent lost his powers at some point on Smallville and Lois & Clark, but those story lines didn't come until much further into those series. Halfway through the first season of Supergirl and Kara's already rendered powerless. Instead of filling the story with rich past experiences — events from her childhood that could explain why she's awkward around men, for example — to give her character more depth, the show is going with an old plotline that would work just as well down the road.

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 5

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 5

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 6

Supergirl acts like a teenager tweet 6

If Supergirl wants to keep the story lines the same, write it in a junior high setting instead of using CatCo as the backdrop. The plotlines —  and Kara's behavior — would make so much more sense if teenagers were the main characters.

Otherwise, create an empowering female character who all viewers can appreciate, instead of the weak character we have now, who, without her superpowers, is reduced to a sad woman-child who pines over unrequited love and cries when things don't go her way.

Terrence Howard's life may be more dramatic than that of his Empire character, Lucious Lyon. Pak gave birth to the couple's first son, Qirin Love, in the spring. In the Extra video, Howard talks about why he wants to work on making baby No. 2.

“Yeah, we want astrology — we want the signs to match up, we need a baby born in September to match the Taurus,” he says.

More: The details of Terrence Howard's ex-wife's alleged extortion are bizarre

A baby born in September will either be a Virgo or a Libra. Virgos get along very well with fellow Earth sign Taurus. Libras are ruled by Venus, which is also the ruling sign of Taurus. It looks like Howard may be onto something. (Confession: I'm a Taurus, so I know these things.)

If Howard and Pak want a September birth, they better get cracking. Watch out, Mira, he's coming for you.

Mental illness does not have to ruin your relationship

$
0
0

There remains such a stigma around mental illness that your spouse may try to hide it, and you might do your best to pretend to yourself that everything will be fine. Do this instead.

Get a proper diagnosis

When your partner is having an ‘episode,’ it’s all you can think about. When the episode is over and the person you married reappears, the temptation is often to pretend everything is fine. Resist that temptation.

Jerri (names in this article are changed), a New York-based graphic designer, recalls, “When Tina started having what turned out to be a manic episode she’d spend all night scrubbing the kitchen floor like a madwoman, then collapse in bouts of inconsolable tears. Or we’d have fights where she said horrible, unforgivable things. Then she’d apologize and we’d go back to our usual routine… until the next time.”

Luckily a caring friend who was familiar with mental illness convinced the couple it was in their best interest to visit a mood disorder specialist. Tina was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and is now on lithium — a medication that needs to be closely monitored and sometimes tweaked. But on the whole Tina is once again Tina.

If your spouse refuses to visit a psychiatrist, you can keep the appointment and ask for suggestions. If a loved one had physical symptoms, you would insist he or she seek treatment. The same standards should apply to mental disorders.

Be prepared for reverse psychology

When your spouse is in the throes of mental illness, he or she is likely not thinking clearly, and might make a convincing case that you are the one with the problem or other untruths.

Dana, 33, and a Maine artist, explains, “It was a long road to get the diagnosis that Andy has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). But it explained so many things, such as his obsession with taking showers three times a day, and his insistence on repeating the same sexual routine each time we made love. Yet when I’d ask if we could vary things a little he’d recoil and act like I had a problem.”

The goal here is not to let this wayward thinking affect your sense of self and good judgment, Dana says, “Once Andy was properly diagnosed, on the correct meds and doing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), he realized he was the one with the problem. A year later, he still apologizes effusively for the way he acted.”

The road to mental health is not a straight one — there will be setbacks — which is why it is imperative to do the research on your partner’s condition, consult experts, then proceed on the course you know is ultimately best for your partner’s health and your marriage.

Know that you are a spouse, not a caregiver

Say your partner has a broken leg. It’s likely you do his or her errands, run around fulfilling his or her every need and consider your needs less important. Then the cast comes off and it’s assumed your partner will pick up the slack.

However, mental illness lacks this kind of time frame or definitive signs of illness. Yet it is vital that at some point you take back your life — this means being supportive but setting and maintaining boundaries.

Tami, a 38-year-old Chicago lawyer, has learned the best way to handle her husband’s chronic anxiety disorder is to stop treating him like delicate china. “I’d hold everything in, feeling he couldn’t take another stressor, and eventually I’d explode. It wasn’t healthy. His illness is part of him, but doesn’t define him. Paul is still the man I married 20 years ago. He’s got a therapist, takes his meds, and is capable of sharing in domestic and childrearing responsibilities so I happily ‘retired’ as his ‘clinician’ and became his wife again.”

It’s difficult enough to maintain a healthy marriage when mental illness isn’t part of the equation. When it is, you need to stop squelching your needs and desires and set about fulfilling them via support groups for partners with mental illness, a therapist, educating yourself about the illness, talking honestly with your spouse on a regular basis about how the two of you are coping and practicing self-care methods ranging from yoga to socializing with friends.

An open letter to the VC who can’t find any women to work at his firm

We saw in Bloomberg Business that you’re having a hard time finding capable, smart women to work for your venture capital firm. Perhaps this explains why there is only one woman featured on your company’s leadership page. And in fact, only 4% of senior venture capitalists are women.

You said if you could find “fabulously bright, driven women who are really interested in technology, very hungry to succeed, and can meet our performance standards” your company would “hire them all day and night.” Perhaps a few such women exist among your 425,787 LinkedIn followers, but that’s a lot of reading and who’s got the time?

As a service-oriented women’s media company, we’re here to help. The good news is that these women do exist (building their own companies, running major corporations, developing new technologies) and they would make excellent additions to the community.

Your interview prompted Nancy Lublin, Founder and CEO of Crisis Text Line, CEO of Do Something and Founder of Dress for Success, to ask her friends on Facebook to contribute some worthy candidates. She offered up five accomplished women who would make excellent candidates for any VC firm. Her network added other notables at will, referring to her list as “a little binder full of women.” In the cheer-spreading spirit of the holidays, the idea caught on like wildfire — an additional 200+ women had been added to Nancy’s post at the time of publishing.

Image: SheKnows

Take a look at a few that caught our eye (there are hundreds more, see below for the full list):

  1. Ayah Bdeir: Founder & CEO, littleBits
  2. Beth Comstock: CMO, GE & oversaw the founding of Hulu
  3. Cori Lathan: CEO & board member at AnthroTronix
  4. Dava Newman: Deputy Administrator, NASA & Professor Aeronautics, MIT
  5. Gina Bianchini: Founder & CEO, Mightybell
  6. Heidi Messer: Former COO, President of LinkShare
  7. Jennifer Hyman: Co-Founder & CEO, Rent the Runway
  8. Joan Sullivan: Deputy Mayor of Education, City of Los Angeles
  9. Julie Rice & Elizabeth Cutler: Co-Founders, SoulCycle
  10. Kathryn Finney: Founder & Managing Director, digitalundivided
  11. Lauren Zalaznick: Former EVP NBC Universal & Member Board of Directors, Shazam
  12. Padmasree Warrior: Board Member, Box & Former CTO & Strategy Officer, Cisco
  13. Sheila Lirio Marcelo: Founder, Chairwoman & CEO, Care.com

These women are the game-changers behind companies like Hulu, Shazam, SoulCycle and NASA. Not bad!

We aren’t surprised. We know that women are the lead adopters of technology, and are therefore well-versed in the digital space. We also know that women control 85% of purchasing decisions and represent a $14 trillion market. But with only 7% of venture capital funding going to women-owned businesses, we are not really represented on either side of the table. Something seems off, right?

Since you have committed to hiring female leaders, we will be tweeting an ongoing list of women who could fit the bill using #shecouldbeaVC.

We invite anyone with ideas for candidates to chime in.

The new social media anxiety is bigger than just FOMO

$
0
0

"Every time I logged on to Facebook, I'd start to feel anxious and upset," says Heather Stratton, 37, a mom of five kids. "I'd see everyone be like, 'Here's my perfect house. Here's my perfect body. Here's my perfect family.' And I'd start to worry I wasn't doing enough, even though I knew my friends didn't mean it that way. And there's just so much of it out there, it's inescapable," Stratton adds.

It's that latter point that really has scientists concerned now. "The font of posts is never ending, and the lack of any comprehensive organization or direction to what you are seeing means it’s just a spew of information,” said James Foley, an academic at The New School, in an interview with The Daily Dot. What was supposed to be a fun and relaxing way to catch up with loved ones has now become a chore at best and completely overwhelming at worst.

More: Social media clauses are the new marriage must

Information overload isn't a new phenomenon — surfing the Internet has long been compared to drinking from a fire hose. But researchers point out that information from social media can be even more potent. Humans are primed to want to interact with other humans, and so our brains give more importance to relational information. But thanks to sites like Twitter and Facebook, there's now so much relational data that we can't process it all — a problem that is making us anxious, depressed and stressed out.

And it's not just the benign stuff that's the problem. In addition to all the images of impossibly cute families and perfect makeup, our news feeds are also sending us a stream of bad news, which can make people feel like the world is going to hell in a handbasket.

"I don't know — are there more mass shootings now than there used to be or do we just hear more about them because everyone's tweeting constantly about them?" asks Makenzie Martinez, 34, a mom of four, who says she stopped using social media altogether because she couldn't handle hearing all the depressing news, especially stories about children being harmed. "I'd read it and the horrible feelings would last all day. I couldn't shake it."

Martinez isn't the only one who has a hard time letting go. One study on Facebook-induced stress found that two-thirds of people "had difficulty sleeping due to anxiety and other negative emotions after they had used the sites.”

But it's not just seeing what other people post that can cause the rush of negative emotions. There's also extreme pressure as to what you share. "There's no way to look at it and not feel like you're missing out on something," says Lia Flynn, 24, a photographer who uses social media for her business and grew up as part of the Facebook generation. This feeling is so omnipresent it's even gotten its own acronym: FOMO, or fear of missing out. "So then you feel like you have to keep up and you're wondering, 'Am I funny enough? Are my pictures pretty enough?'" Flynn adds.

Constantly worrying about how you're presenting yourself to others and how others are responding (or not) to what you post can be agonizing. It's not uncommon for people to spend hours and dozens of snaps to get the perfect "candid" selfie or to rearrange an entire restaurant table while the delicious food gets cold just to get the perfect Instagram shot. While some cutely call it living a "curated life," it's rapidly losing the actual life part, researchers caution.

So, what's a girl to do? Going off the grid entirely is one option — one that Martinez says she doesn't regret at all. "I'm so much happier and I've found that the people who really want to keep in touch with me will still do so," she says.

More: How to have a healthy relationship with social media

But for the rest of us who use social media for work, maintaining far-flung relationships or just enjoy it sometimes, we have to find a peaceful middle ground. For Stratton, that means no more mindless scrolling through her feeds during down times. She still has a Facebook account, but she only uses it for a purpose, like looking up pictures of a friend's new baby or getting event invitations. Flynn says she probably still spends too much time on social media, but tries to be aware of her feelings and take a break when it's starting to get to her. She's also made her business its own page and accounts, so that she can focus on work without getting distracted by everything else.

Whatever you do, though, researchers agree that you need to have a plan to protect your emotional health because more and more people are getting quietly sucked into the vortex of social media anxiety.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hill's Foster has been open about her struggle with the debilitating illness, and now is talking about how she is helping her son Anwar and daughter Bella deal with the disease.

In an Instagram pic posted today, Foster reiterated her dedication to preventing her kids from dealing with the dire effects a lack of early treatment left her with.

"I will walk to the end of the earth to find a cure for my babies so that they can live the healthy life that they deserve to live......... #UnitedWeStand #LDI Low Dose Immune Therapy #Round2 #LymeDiseaseAwerenes [sic]," she wrote.

We assume the birth date on Bella's tube is a typo, otherwise she is obviously a vampire.

Back in October, Foster announced that both Bella and Anwar were afflicted while accepting the Power of One Award at the Global Lyme Alliance gala.

More: RHOBH fans accuse Yolanda Foster of being the next Brooks Ayers

"When my two youngest children, Bella and Anwar, were diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease in early 2012, watching my babies struggle in silence in order to support me in my journey struck the deepest core of hopelessness inside of me," she said during her acceptance speech.

"This award is for Anwar and Bella. This is my token and my promise to you that I will not allow you to live a life of pain and suffering. I will walk to the end of the earth to find a cure so that you can live a healthy life that you deserve," Foster continued. "No child should suffer the way that you do... I thank you both for your extraordinary selflessness during this journey. Your unwavering love and compassion has kept me alive and fighting through the darkest days of my life."

Neither Bella nor Anwar have commented on their mom's dedication.

I watched a part of my dad die, and it made me face my own death

I’m writing this from my dad’s house, sitting on his couch, feeling the weight of loss all around me. The love of my dad’s life, his partner and best friend, passed away unexpectedly recently.

My stepdad’s name was Dom. It’s still hard to wrap my mind around the past tense of his existence. In early August, I had been up to their house for a short visit. We were making dinner and talking about the possibility of taking a trip together, somewhere tropical and inexpensive, possibly the Dominican Republic.

More: 7 Ideas for a last-minute family getaway

Dom had told me there was no way in hell he’d go back there, to his place of birth, because they weren’t accepting of homosexuals.

“Maybe Mexico,” Dom quipped, “but certainly not there. No, thank you.”

After a cocktail, Dom changed his mind. “I might go back,” he said. “It’s really beautiful there, and I could show you all the amazing markets from my childhood. They have so many ingredients that you’ll never find here in the U.S.”

Bryanne Salazar and stepfather
Image: Bryanne Salazar

When Dom passed away a month later, so did a part of my dad. He was empty the night we came home from the hospital, in shock and unable to comprehend what had happened.

More: 10 Best self-help quotes from Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

Denial came first. If we didn’t talk about it, it wasn’t real. The next stage was anger. Why hadn’t the hospital done more to save him? The third emotion, the one you won’t find on a pamphlet about death, was fear. How can he be gone? How will I go on without him?

I felt helpless at times. How could I reach through the ocean of loss that had ripped my dad away in its strong current? Each day was an experiment in firsts. I tried physical comfort, grasping his hands and rubbing his shoulders, embracing him whenever tears threatened to fall. He told me he didn’t like it, to stop.

I tried talking him through the pain, but the truth was: I knew nothing about how he felt. How could I? My husband was alive and well, sitting next to me, while his was not. My words were empty in his ears.

The only thing left for me to do, aside from just being there (something so important for the bereaved), was to tackle the mountain of paperwork and phone calls that need to be handled when someone dies. Somehow, each item I crossed off the list helped me process the pain of losing someone I loved, too.

First, I called the funeral home and made final arrangements for my stepdad. Next, I authorized the hospital to release his body to the funeral home. I sat down and, through emotional sighs and tear-stained lines, wrote Dom’s obituary. I searched through his pictures and found the one that captured his innocent, joyful spirit and would make people smile while reading of his death.

More: James Rebhorn wrote his own obituary just before his death

I helped my dad fish through financial paperwork to know which bills were now his responsibility, and helped settle accounts that were soon to be due.

I filed the life insurance paperwork, signed my dad up for and took him to bereavement counseling (I highly recommend this for anyone who has lost a spouse), connected him with resources and services that could help during this transition, cooked him meals, cleaned his house and then, maybe most importantly, listened whenever he needed to speak, but didn’t offer solutions. How could I?

I didn’t pretend to know what he was feeling and I didn’t make the loss about myself. I reminded my dad that no matter how lonely he felt, he was never alone. It was all I could do.

Today marks three weeks since my stepdad took his last breath. I still imagine he’ll walk out of the bedroom in his fluffy white robe and grumble “morning,” before making himself his favorite English tea and bowl of oatmeal. I can still hear him laughing, sitting with my youngest son at his piano, teaching him to play.

Death is shitty. It takes those moments and puts a date on them, a stamp of finality. It leaves a permanent emptiness in those who were left behind.

It also reminds us that life is limited, and how important it is to have policies and papers in place for when we pass away. In the last few days, my husband and I have made sure to increase our life insurance policies, open investment accounts and file our advance directives and wills. When we’re young, we think we have time to take care of those things, but the truth is that we aren’t guaranteed another day. The worst thing we could do is leave our spouses and families without the means to live in our absence.

Talk to your family about what you want. Spell it out in no uncertain terms whether or not you want to be resuscitated, intubated, kept on life support, an organ donor, buried, cremated, etc. Have enough life insurance to pay off your home, your debt and provide your family with enough income to grieve without also having to figure out how they will survive.

And most importantly, don’t take anyone you love for granted. We always think we have more time, time for the trip, time for the phone call, time to say “I love you.”

When your time comes (and it will), don’t leave anyone wondering what could have been.

The two were spotted canoodling at Millions of Milkshakes in Hollywood earlier this week, according to an E! News source, and Tomlinson was "all over the girl" and "being playful and all lovey towards her like couples do."

So who is this mystery woman? Here's what we know so far.

1. She's not really that much of a mystery

If you're a fan of the The Vampire Dairies spin-off The Originals, then chances are, you are already well acquainted with Campbell. She currently stars in the show as Davina Claire.

But The Originals wasn't Campbell's big break. She first came on to the Hollywood scene way back in 2006, when she played little Gracey on the hit show Prison Break.

2. She might have actually caught Tomlinson's eye a while ago

The Millions of Milkshakes trip wasn't the first time Tomlinson and Campbell have been spotted out together. Campbell's friend Keelin Woodell posted a selfie with Campbell and Tomlinson last month, indicating that Campbell and Tomlinson's reported fling is more than a one-night thing.

However, this could also mean that the two are just close friends, which is, after all, how he refers to the Jungwirth — the mother of his unborn child.

3. She was discovered in a Midwestern hair salon

According to IMDb, Campbell found out she was destined for stardom while visiting a hair salon in Chicago. It makes perfect sense, really, considering the girl has unbelievably amazing hair.

4. She's a morning person

She may portray a character on a show where everyone is out all night hooting with the owls, but Campbell actually prefers to soar with the eagles.

"I'm a huge morning person," Campbell said in a Q&A posted on YouTube. "Breakfast is my favorite meal and I'm very much, very much a morning person. I'm happiest in the morning and I start to fade at the end of the day and get deliriously happy and laugh, but, definitely a morning person."

5. She's an animal lover

And not afraid of snakes.

6. She likes to give back

In addition to taking part in the Stand Up to Cancer campaign, Campbell recently partnered with Heifer International, a nonprofit organization that links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty.

"We went to Guatemala and I met so many incredible people," Campbell said of working with Heifer in an interview with Teen.com. "The people were in tears because they were so happy and so grateful. You can see in the before and after pictures of what Heifer has helped them do and how they have provided."

7. She's close to her baby brother

Campbell hangs with her younger brother, Johnny, all the time, and is always giving a shout-out to his budding photography business.

More: Fuller House makes final decision on Olsen twins' involvement

Us Weekly reports that Michelle will be a presence on Fuller House, just not a physical one. Rather than recasting the role, the creative team has developed an elaborate backstory for the youngest Tanner daughter, involving a life in New York City as a fashion designer. Michelle isn’t able to visit San Francisco often, it seems, but she stays in touch with her family on the phone; in one episode of Fuller House, a character reportedly prank-calls Michelle, delivering her iconic "You got it, dude!" catchphrase.

If this backstory development sounds familiar to fans, that’s because the real-life Olsen twins have abandoned acting for fashion design. They launched their flagship brand, The Row, in 2006 and have been designing and marketing high-end clothing, eyewear and handbags for the past decade. At only 29 years old, the twins are highly respected in the industry; in 2012, they were honored with the Council of Fashion Designers of America's prestigious Womenswear Designer of the Year award. It remains to be seen whether Michelle Tanner will have an equally established career — hopefully D.J. and Stephanie will sport some of her looks on occasion.

Much of the Full House cast will be reprising their former roles, however. In a twist on the original series’ premise, Fuller House will follow D.J. Tanner-Fuller’s life as a widow raising three children. Younger sister Stephanie and childhood best friend Kimmy Gibbler — along with Kimmy’s teenage daughter — move in with D.J. in her San Francisco house. Guest appearances by other original stars will pop up along the way. During production, Candace Cameron Bure teased the involvement of Dave Coulier (playing D.J.’s surrogate uncle, Joey) and Scott Weinger (playing D.J.’s high school boyfriend, Steve).
