Meet Hinder, the app that shames politicians for denying reproductive rights

Thankfully some very funny people decided it was time for us to take back control of our personal rights by using the greatest weapon available — knowledge. Lizz Winstead, co-creator of The Daily Show, decided to create an app with her nonprofit Lady Parts Justice, designed to bring women up to speed on the politicians who are trying to usurp control over their reproductive parts. It's called Hinder, and like its name suggests, it follows the Tinder model of swiping left and right on local men in your area. But these aren't just any men — these are the politicians who think they should have a say over what we do with our bodies.

More10 Ways Planned Parenthood is about more than just abortions

Image: Lady Parts Justice

That's right. Lady Parts Justice has taken all the guesswork out of which politicians are crazy, rights-denying pigs and which aren't. This way, you don't make a huge mistake in the voting booth, or worse, accidentally get set up on a blind date with one of them (shudder).

Lady Parts Justice has been around since 2012 and is intent on rooting out injustice when it comes to our rights as women. Its mission statement puts it succinctly: "Lady Parts Justice is the first not safe for work, rapid response reproductive justice messaging hub that uses comedy, culture and digital media to sound an alarm about the terrifying erosion of reproductive access so people will get off their asses and reclaim their rights."

Humor has proven itself time and time again to be a definitive way to draw attention to important, serious issues. As such, Hinder has garnered a lot of attention lately not only for its ballsy political callouts, but because of Apple's initial rejection of it as an app.

MoreWomen tweet about their abortions to dispel the stigma surrounding it

According to The Huffington Post, Apple initially recalled the app because it violates Rule 14 of its app review guidelines, which bans "any App that is defamatory, offensive, mean-spirited, or likely to place the targeted individual or group in harm's way." However, that same rule makes an exception for "professional political satirists and humorists," which all the members of Lady Parts Justice could easily call themselves.

In the wake of Apple's ban, Winstead decided to make the app available for download on her website. While the descriptions are definitely mocking in nature, Winstead stands by all the facts listed under each politician. She told The Huffington Post, "We're basically stating facts in a satirical way, but you can fact-check the app." Here's an example of one of the political "matches" you could see on the app.

Image: Lady Parts Justice

Now doesn't Mr. Huckabee sound like the perfect guy to take home to your parents? Winstead, who has been advocating for reproductive rights since she had an abortion as a teenager in the '70s, is hoping this app will get the younger generation talking about these important issues. So far the app has been downloaded 1,500 times, and Apple has finally agreed to release it through iTunes, so those numbers should grow significantly.

MoreWomen shouldn't have to apologize for their abortions

One out of every three women will have an abortion in her lifetime. Limiting reproductive health care by defunding Planned Parenthood will harm more lives than save unborn babies. The first step to fighting the Senate is learning exactly who's advocating against us so that we can block their paths to more powerful positions. So swipe left, and get to know them well.

Banana 'nice cream' sandwiches you don't have to feel too bad about eating

Well, they can be, and they should be.

I blended frozen bananas with pure vanilla extract for a thick banana ice cream that I stuffed between Ritz crackers for mini "nice cream" sandwiches. Stick them in the freezer, and then, right before serving, give them a little dunk in some melted chocolate (either dark or milk chocolate — your choice).

Kids will love these treats, and they are also perfect for those who can’t consume dairy products. Keep these stored in your freezer for a quick frozen snack you don't have to feel bad about indulging in.

Chocolate-dipped banana "nice cream" sandwiches recipe

Yields 12

Prep time: 20 minutes | Inactive time: 2 hours | Total time: 2 hours 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 large, very ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch sea salt
  • 24 Ritz or other crackers
  • 1/2 cup chopped chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Directions:

  1. Line a small baking sheet with waxed or parchment paper, and set it aside. Place the sliced bananas in a freezer bag, and freeze for 2 hours or until frozen solid.
  2. To a food processor, add the bananas, vanilla and sea salt.
  3. Blend on high for 3 to 4 minutes or until the bananas become very smooth and creamy. You will have to scrape down the sides of the bowl a few times to make sure all the bananas are blended.
  4. Lay half the crackers out on the baking sheet, and top with a spoonful of the banana nice cream. Place another cracker on top, and sandwich them together. Repeat until all the sandwiches are made.
  5. Add the chocolate and coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 30 seconds, stirring halfway through or until completely melted.
  6. Dip half the sandwiches into the melted chocolate, and return them to the baking sheet.
  7. Place the sandwiches in the freezer to keep them frozen until ready to serve. Store any leftover sandwiches in a freezer bag until ready to serve.

The Runaway Hearts star’s husband, film producer Alejandro Gómez Monteverde, has been left devastated by the news that his father and brother were victims of a brutal kidnapping and murder in Veracruz, Mexico.

According to The Latin Times, Juan Manuel Gómez Fernández and Juan Manuel Gómez Monteverde were snatched while leaving their home. Their bodies were found 16 days later with severe head injuries.

Kidnapping for ransom is not unheard of in the area and, according to Televisa news anchor Carlos Loret de Mola, a ransom was paid but the pair was killed anyway.

Monteverde’s brother was a partner at a restaurant in Tampico that allegedly had ties to a local drug cartel, but officials have not conclusively stated if there is a connection to the deaths.

Eduardo Verástegui, who produced the Monteverde-directed film Little Boy, sent his condolences via Twitter.

Big Brother 17: 10 Behind-the-scenes secrets you should know

$

0

As luck would have it, one of my producer journeyman friends had done some time at Big Brother. With tonight’s finale looming, I thought it was time to tap him for some intel. Here are my favorite behind-the-scenes secrets.

1. Even during casting, Big Brother is controlling everything

Johnny Mac Big Brother 17 GIF
Image: MakeAGif.com

Think you wanna audition for Big Brother 18? Here’s what to expect. You will be spied on, but not with cameras behind two-way mirrors — no, sir! One or more of your fellow "auditioners" are BB18 spies! They will not only be tasked with engaging you in serious convo, but they will also be reporting back to casting. You might even get evicted from the BB18 casting hotel before you ever see your first HOH room.

2. Being an intolerant malcontent could be your greatest casting asset

Jason Big Brother 17 GIF
Image: Tumblr

When you become a finalist in the Big Brother casting process, you are given a sheet of paper titled, "Things you should be thinking about for finals." This list asks you to "think about the types of people that fire you up, make you mad, etc." As much as you think you get along with everyone, you don't. The more people you hate, the better your chances of ending up in the house.

3. Being hot is a must

Clay Big Brother 17 GIF
Image: Tumblr

Sorry, this is TV, not the circus. You have zero houseguest potential if you’re beautiful on the inside. There are a few exceptions if your personality shines, but the rest of you, get those hoodies off and get in the pool! They want to see women in short-shorts and bikinis and men with muscles. During the final casting call, you have both pool time (are you hot?) and gym time (can you keep it hot?). They also insist that if you have to buy new clothes, do that: "This isn’t a job interview," our insider told us.

4. Even if you don’t get the $500k, you do get something

Big Brother 17 GIF
Image: Tumblr

According to the actor’s union, SAG-AFTRA, being on a reality show as a contestant in a competition show like Big Brother is not a talent. You aren’t considered "talent" — sorry. That means, technically, they don’t have to pay you, but CBS does. We hear that houseguests receive $750 a week. That means there is some incentive to stay as long as you can, even if you don’t win the big $500k prize.

5. The drama is scripted out — sort of

Audrey Big Brother GIF
Image: CBS

My reality show producer friend said they make it abundantly clear that you need to have a strong point of view, be as confrontational as you can and there will be those in the house you will not get along with. On my VH1 show, there was a guy cast to be the pot-stirrer. Our insider speculated that it was intentional to pit Vanessa and Becky against each other and that he wouldn’t be surprised if Audrey was cast to "cause a little trouble."

More: How Vanessa "mean-girled" her way through the Big Brother house

6. The "showmance" formula is more like a recipe

Austin & Liz Big Brother GIF
Image: CBS

There are so many showmances on Big Brother, it’s astounding! For all the single people out there wondering where to meet someone, Big Brother seems to be it. Here’s the recipe:

Step 1: Place three hot, shirtless, broad-shouldered men in a pool.

Step 2: Add an odd number of sexy women with zero body fat in bikinis and stir.

7. Being tested for STDs is mandatory

Evel Dick Big Brother GIF
Image: Tumblr

Early on, it was in the contract that houseguests will agree to be tested, but not that they had to be. But now because of Evil Dick testing HIV positive, CBS takes no chances. Interestingly, when Dick Donato tested positive, he says he was told that he had to leave the house, which he did under a cloud of mystery at the time. CBS says they never forced him to leave the show.

8. There are people taking down your every word

Steve Big Brother GIF
Image: LiveJournal

This part is probably less shocking because, of course, you’re aware that you are in a house with cameras on 24/7. So, it should come as no surprise that there are also people writing transcripts of everything you’re saying. All of those weird moments Steve had alone the first half of the game, someone had to log that in! Where can I get that job?

9. Julie Chen is a dream, if only you can pin her down for a moment

Julie Chen Big Brother GIF
Image: Tumblr

Julie is one of those people whom everyone loves. Nobody who knows her or works with her has one bad thing to say — except the press. They complain that on Big Brother media days, she is so focused on The Talk and her other CBS duties that she has completely blown off interviews to promote Big Brother.

10. The house is just gross and disgusting

Big Brother 17 trashed house
Image: CBS

Think about a college frat house with 17 people living in it. Now, add endless snacking, backyard games that include mud, food, foam and whatever that gross red stuff was they dunked Liz, Steve and Vanessa in last week — all of that stuff gets tracked into the house. Our insider says that aside from the smells, there was even a season with a bad ant problem! Some of those folks are just messy anyway, not to mention that challenge where the houseguests hid those keys and tossed the house to find them. So like clockwork every Thursday before the live eviction, a cleaning crew has to come in and snazz it all up so they can happily invite America into their living room.

Those are just a few secrets to think about as you’re watching tonight’s #BB17 finale at 8/7c on CBS.

Sexy book excerpt: A scene from The Prince and I by Karen Hawkins

Excerpt from The Prince and I by Karen Hawkins:

The late-morning sun slanted through the shutters as Murian sank deeper into the tub, warm water sloshing over her shoulders. The large brass tub was another prize she'd stolen from Rowallen, and she still took great delight in thinking of the earl having to use one of the small tubs she'd left behind. He'd barely be able to sit in one, his legs folded in front of him, which would be most uncomfortable.

Grinning, she slid farther down in the water so that it encircled her face and her hair fanned around her. She'd been singing her favorite song, one her mother had taught her when she was a child, about maidens and knights. With her ears underwater, her voice was muffled and — to be honest — much improved.

The warm water felt heavenly, her cares dissolving into the thick curls of lavender-scented steam that rose from the tub. It had been a long few weeks and she’d needed some time to let her cares go.

Yet try as she would, she hadn't been able to stop thinking about the prince, wondering why he'd taken such an interest in her. Was it mere pride, because she'd bested him at a sword fight? She didn't think so, seeing as how he'd turned the tables at the end. Though if she hadn't slipped — No, it was better not to dwell on might-haves. Life had taught her that lesson far too well.

More: Sexy book excerpt: Woman reunites with bad-boy ex and it's all kinds of steamy

At one time, she'd had a new, adoring husband, a beautiful castle for a home, and a future that had seemed endless. In one day, she'd lost it all. The only way she'd been able to come to terms with such devastation was to move forward and keep moving. She missed Robert dearly and knew that a part of her always would. But as time passed and she heard stories from the widows who'd been wed for years before being parted from their husbands, she'd realized her and Robert’s relationship had only just begun to grow roots. She was certain it would have become a towering tree, had they been allowed the luxury of time. As it was, she was left with an empty heart and many sweet memories, which had been enough until now. Somehow, meeting the prince had awakened her imagination and made her wonder what if?

She shouldn't even be thinking about the prince; she'd only met him three times, anyway. Which was three times too many. Still... there was something about him that stirred her curiosity. She felt as if she knew him in some way, which made no sense, for they had nothing in common. She should just forget him.

And she would, for she had many things that needed her attention far more. Like how to get the supplies to repair their cottages, and when Loudan might ease his guard and she could slip back into Rowallen.

She reached up and grasped the high sides of the tub, pulling herself into a sitting position. The water lapped at her shoulders as she leaned back against the elegant slant of the tub, her hair clinging to her neck and shoulders before floating around her in the water in red silken waves.

She sighed happily and closed her eyes. Life was always surprising. Who would have ever thought she'd meet a prince? "Prince Max," she said aloud. "Mighty, oh-so-sure-of-himself Prince Max."

"You called, dorogaya moya?" came a deep voice.

Her eyes flew open. Surely... that couldn't have been.

Heart pounding, she lifted her head and peered over the edge of the tub.

The prince stood just inside her window, re-closing the shutters. When he finished, he faced her and said in a polite voice, "Good morning, Murian."

RHOC's Brooks Ayers finally breaks his silence over faking cancer rumors

On Monday’s episode, Heather Dubrow and Tamra Judge were pleading with fellow castmate Vicki Gunvalson to reveal more about her now-ex-boyfriend's medical records, all to appease everyone else’s need to confirm, without a doubt, that Brooks Ayers has cancer.

All season long, Ayers has faced harsh criticism about his health. In fact, several times, fellow Housewives have seemed crazed about it, calling his doctors pretending to be potential patients.

But Ayers is finally firing back saying, “Most of the women are making up the minor stuff in my opinion, and so, yeah, there’s gonna be some questions being asked, but the challenge for me — if you’ve got questions, come to me directly. Don’t talk behind my back, don’t assume and try to put the pieces together, and there has only been one time that these ladies have ever asked me about my cancer and my treatment.”

More: RHOC's Brooks Ayers reportedly plans to address the "faking cancer" rumors

He continued saying, “… none of the women since we’ve gotten through filming in May have reached out to me asking how am I doing. If they really sincerely cared about me... you think they would reach out. I think they [talk about me] to create drama. Manufactured drama and that’s sad to me.”

In the latest episode, though, the ladies of the show claim they are only concerned he isn’t getting good treatment or advice, which is the worst excuse I’ve ever heard to try to explain away their crazy and rude behavior.

But the embattled Brooks continues, "Shannon and David [Beador], quite frankly, while they started being nice supporters of Vicki and myself, it was odd to me that Shannon gets all upset and bent out of shape that I didn’t go see her world-renowned physician when, in fact, I got world-renowned facilities that I’ve been going to for a year and a half. It’s not about who I go to. I thought it was about me getting well and better."

More: Tamra Judge reveals huge secret about a real RHOC sex tape

According to what Brooks told Entertainment Tonighthe was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a form of blood cancer.

And he has the best way of thinking about the "manufactured drama" he says the ladies are creating, which could explain why he has not, before now, addressed the criticism. He said, “It’s useless drama that brings on stress that, quite frankly, no one needs and in particular my situation. I’m not running from anything.” Well said.

Do you think Ayers needs to prove he has cancer to the other women? Or do they need to back off and just be supportive?

Kissing can lead to good sex

As it turns out, kissing is very important.

Here is what people had to say:

  • I could kiss with my honey all day. He is an awesome kisser. Yes it's part of our lovemaking. And kissing him all over, is too.
  • Kissing is like warming up the engine of your car before the race. It's very important.
  • Everything is in the kiss. The whole soul, the whole body, every erogenous zone is categorized and filed away in the kiss. The kiss, however, is not a single thing that exists in a vacuum, but rather a journey from one state into another; it is the story of "we." And, like good music, it is familiar yet surprising. It moves us from within the deepest part of our spine to our hair, sending shivers from our skin back to our bones — resonating us like tuning forks.
  • The kiss is the gateway to ascension.
  • My husband said to me right before our first kiss, "I am about to kiss you, and when I do it's going to change our worlds." And that it did.
  • The mouth has got to be one of the most erotic zones, filled with sensors for taste and touch at the same time. Kissing before and during is hot, intensifying and passionate. Got to have it.
  • Once observed that, "Romance starts in the face." For me, kissing is the first intercourse
  • Kissing is sharing breath. It is the beginning of blending energy and breaking down barriers. Kissing floods our bodies with explosive chemicals. Kissing puts us in the mood, opens us to sensuality and drives us toward intimacy.
  • Kissing is extremely intimate. It's one of my favorite things to do!
  • Kiss before, during and after. Very important!
  • Kissing is just the foyer to becoming one physically, mentally and emotionally. I've had out-of-body experiences from kissing. It's a prelude to what's to come. Again, important before, during and after.
  • I like to kiss a whole lot. Kissing someone you love deeply is so soothing, like dipping into a spa tub. Kissing in general is lovely — from bubbly little pecks to chaotic grabs and whole-mouth engulfment.
  • Kissing is a must for me. I need that connection to go along with eye contact in order to enjoy the full experience!

Kissing is obviously important, but why?

As many of us have already discovered, a good kiss can really turn us on, while a bad kiss can really turn us off.

What is the science behind kissing? Kissing may be rooted in biology — and testosterone, a hormone that increases sex drive.

“There is evidence that saliva has testosterone in it," according to Rutgers University anthropologist Helen Fisher. "And there is evidence that men like sloppier kisses with more open mouth. That suggests they are unconsciously trying to transfer testosterone to stimulate sex drive in women."

"One study found that 66 percent of women and 59 percent of men say the quality of the first kiss can kill a relationship," Fisher said.

Kissing might be a way of assessing our potential mates, but it's "just the tip of the iceberg," according to Fisher. "We're going to find that all kinds of chemical systems are in play in courtship that we are unaware of."

Both research and real people's opinions show kissing is the prelude to good sex, so kissing should play a big part in our intimate relationships!

But hold up. Before you check out the super-hot Orange Is the New Black star's most recent shoot in The Untitled Magazine's latest issue, maybe you should see what Rose has to say about it. Because it turns out she doesn't want anyone to see that particular spread — she claims the mag used it without her permission!

"I am pro ‘free the nipple' so when I was tagged in this photo by fans I wasn't sure where it came from but I assumed a BTS from a friends shoot or one where we had approved slightly transparency in an image," she captioned an Instagram shot of the magazine's cover (with her nipples covered, as per Instagram's nudity policy, of course). "Imagine my shock to find that @theuntitledmagazine decided to publish images of me after we explained we wouldn't be doing the shoot if I wasn't appropriately covered."

She added, "The difference with working with a friend and or choosing to use nudity for art / and someone taking the piss and exploiting you is two different things."

People who have watched OITNB's latest season know Rose isn't shy about her body. And some of those people may be wondering what the big deal is about this shoot, since the actress has gone topless in the media many times before.

The difference here is that if it's true that Rose didn't approve publication of the nude pics, this really is exploiting her. The magazine addressed that claim in a tweet to Rose.

"@RubyRose One of the most important issues today is #equality," they wrote. "We would never publish unapproved photos. We do not believe in exploitation!"

Still, Rose says the photos are nearly a year old, and has asked her fans not to buy the issue.

"Please if you are a fan of mine boycott this issue. Or you are buying into greedy, exploitative propaganda," she wrote on Instagram. "I have plenty of other shoots I'm proud of with professionals coming up its not needed in your collection."

More: Coco Rocha reveals the unglamorous side of the model world

If you're anywhere near Coco Rocha, you'd better keep it to yourself, especially if it has anything to do with the controversial debate that pits bottle feeding and breastfeeding moms against each other.

Rocha gave her haters a real mouthful on Instagram Monday, after commenters took her to task for bottle feeding her daughter Ioni, who was born last March.

"Getting a lot of unwanted advice based on my last post. Not that this is anyone's business - I loved breastfeeding Ioni for the first 5 months of her life and then one day my milk went dry," she wrote alongside a photo of her baby girl drinking out of a bottle. "It happens to every mom at different times. She's been on formula for a few weeks now and seems to be doing just fine. In the last 4 weeks she gained another 2 pounds, grew another inch and is in the 90th percentile for her age."

It's definitely a damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of situation when you think about how many stars have been similarly criticized for the opposite reason: sharing pics of breastfeeding their babies.

And for anyone else who feels the need to weigh in on Rocha's parenting decisions, she has a stern warning.

"Anyone who has a negative comment to make on the way I raise my baby will be blocked," she wrote, adding, "This is not a democracy, everyone doesn't get a say."

Way to go, Coco!

Some of us always take our Oreos apart before we eat them; others eat the croutons out of their salad first (or save them for last). But sometimes, you hear of an unusual eating habit that really takes your breath away. Thanks to Reddit, we recently learned about a bunch of strange food rituals, ranging from helpful hacks to gag-inducing snacks.

1. Oh, Mitch

"My co-worker 1.) Takes his sandwich out of the fridge. 2.) Removes the single slice of swiss cheese. 3.) Eats his sandwich. 4.) Places the cheese slice on a plate. 5.) Puts this in the toaster oven until melted. 6.) Proceeds to eat the cheese with a fork and knife. Mitch, if you are reading this, It's weird!" — today_is_yesterday

It's f*****g delicious, when the peanut butter melts a bit it's all warm and liquid-y and I feel like I'm eating a really decadent dessert, plus it actually fills me up. I don't eat peanut butter sandwiches or anything like that, this is the only reason I buy peanut butter." — lioninacoma

10. Noooooooooo

"I'll cut a stick of butter into 10 pieces, then put three pieces in a bowl. I'll add a lot of mayonnaise and a lot of hot sauce. I'll microwave it for like 20 seconds so the butter gets a little soft and then stir everything up. It's so bad for me but it tastes so good."

The Vancouver 'Love Locks' installation is destined for failure

In case you haven't heard of this trend, a love lock is a padlock decorated with a couple’s initials and stuck onto a public monument — things like bridges and gates. The general idea behind love locks is actually at least 100 years old, dating back to the First World War. The love lock trend, however, gained popularity only in the 2000s and has quickly been rejected by most cities, with reason: Love locks are ugly, transforming beautiful areas into cheap souvenir stands. They’re also dangerous, adding undue weight to structures and, in famous cases like Paris’ Pont des Arts, threatening their collapse.

More: Paris' famous 'Love Locks' display being torn down

As a result, cities from Paris (which recently removed almost 1 million locks from bridges) and New York City to Saskatoon are cracking down and removing love locks from their structures. The trend is over…

And yet the city of Vancouver is asking citizens to vote on a local park in which to create a regulated installation for locking.

Why is Vancouver so behind?

It seems that, after removing smatterings of locks found around town, the city’s Parks Department is trying to be nice by offering a safe place to lock down. Sounds sweet, right?

More: 12 Love quotes that should be your new relationship mantras

Here’s the thing: Let’s say you’re a hopeless romantic, and you're drawn to the passionate, spontaneous symbolism of publicly "locking your love" — if the government tries to re-create exactly the same thing but in a dispassionate, regulated environment, then does it not lose some of the whimsical enchantment that was at the core of the idea? Will lining up for your turn to add a new lock to some installation still have that heart-pounding thrill?

Paris 'Love Padlocks' Are Replaced By Temporary Panels Signed By Graffiti Artists Brusk, Pantonio, Jace and El Seed At Pont Des Arts

I think a city-planned love lock installation, in 2015, is a pointless waste of time and money.

Instead of throwing love into a hunk of steel, perhaps it’s time for Vancouverites and lock aficionados across the world to find alternative, even-more romantic (and less dangerous) ways to express their love.

In Melbourne, people are doing just this: Officials are removing locks from the Southgate Bridge but are also encouraging residents to find alternative public expressions of their original love locks.

As for Paris, the residents of the city of love have already made up for the absence of this hardware on the Pont des Arts, replacing the heavy locks with love-inspired art.

What do you think? Are love locks over?

Shonda Rhimes: 'I hope my daughters grow up to have amazing sex'

The Grey's Anatomy creator says that she doesn't believe sex should be taboo on TV or in real life, especially since graphic violence has been so normalized.

"I have three daughters, and I find it fascinating that you can shoot someone in the face on network television, show the whole thing, watch their brains fly out of the back of their head, and no one blinks. But people are shocked when you show anybody having sex," she said in the October "Power Issue" of Women's Health.

"I hope my daughters grow up to have amazing sex. I really do. I do not hope they grow up to shoot someone in the face. You know what I mean?

"I feel like there are ways to represent women owning their sexuality and having a strong point of view about it and it not being this taboo thing that's hidden in some closet somewhere," she said.

And Rhimes definitely puts her money where her mouth is, especially when it comes to her own work.

"Early on [on Grey's Anatomy], Callie and Arizona were kissing, and Arizona ran her hand up Callie's leg — and [the network] said we couldn't do that," she explained. "I said, 'You are not going to tell me that a woman cannot run her hand up another woman's leg when we've seen Mark Sloan do all kinds of things to Callie,'" she said. "A great conversation came out of it, and things turned so everybody was on the same page."

The new seasons of Rhimes' shows Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder all premiere Thursday night on ABC.

Jessa and Jill Duggar's latest TV gig brings haters out in full force

While TLC has pulled the plug on the entire family’s show, 19 Kids and Counting, the network has decided it will air a "few" episodes of a special series featuring just two of the numerous Duggar children.

Jess (Duggar) Seewald and Jill (Duggar) Dillard will, according to the Associated Press, have "two or more" TV specials chronicling major changes in the two girls' lives.

More: Jessa Duggar's Instagram proves Josh is not forgiven (PHOTO)

"What we will be following in these specials is Jessa preparing for her first child and we’ll be watching Jill preparing to make a major move to Central America with her family, which we know is something our audience will be interested in."

You will hardly have forgotten that TLC canceled 19 Kids and Counting following Josh Duggar’s admission that he sexually molested five underage girls, including both Jessa and Jill, when he was a teenager.

Fans have been furious with the show being canceled and the television network has several times considered various spinoffs focusing on Jill and Jessa in order to appease the angry, mostly-online mob. But with the revelation of this new special series, there seems to be a different undertone to those weighing in online. Critics are taking to the Internet to share their thoughts and most of them are either hilariously mocking of the new series or showing disdain for the remaining Duggars who have seemingly gone missing since the Josh scandal broke.

One commenter wrote, "Return of the Duggars? Praise be to Zeus on Olympus!" To which another person perfectly quipped, "By Odin’s raven, huzzah!”

Another commenter noted, "Why do we need [to] see Jessa prepare for a child? What benefit do we get from watching? What do we learn? Nothing!!!" This person continued, "These girls are more like the Kardashians than they wish to admit."

Ouch. Harsh words and bitter pills, but you’ve got to admit, they make a pretty good point.

While there was a smattering of Duggar fans in the mix who seemed truly happy they would get to see the girls on TV again, the vast majority of the almost-600 comments seemed to be folks asking why this family is being put back on TV.

Candace Cameron Bure says Fuller House is 'racier' than you think

As Bure just told TV Line, the upcoming spinoff series will push the boundaries a little more than the original — although she insists it won't ever go too far. "Tonally, the show is very much the same, but it’s updated,” the actress explained. "I'm sure a few of the jokes are a little bit racier now than they would have been in the ’90s, but it’s still nothing that’s inappropriate or that you would feel uncomfortable watching with your kids."

More: Fuller House changes D.J. Tanner's most controversial story line

The shift to a slightly more adult tone shouldn't come as a huge surprise considering D.J. and Stephanie Tanner (played by Jodie Sweetin) and Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) are all grown up now. "We’re three grown women, and I have to say, we’re all pretty good-looking, too. [Laughs]," Bure said of the characters. "We have some cute guys on the show, too, so that’s fun.”

But that's not the only change viewers should expect to see on Fuller House. Bure also says that fans should expect to see a different side of D.J. “She’s in mom mode, full-time,” Bure tells TV Line. “She’s not a teenager anymore, but she’s still really fun. She also has to keep three boys under control without a husband, so she’s got to be a disciplinarian."

More: Candace Cameron Bure addresses Michelle's role in Fuller House

Still, those who loved D.J. on the original Full House won't be disappointed. While she might be more grown up now, D.J. is still D.J. "If you were that teenage girl who wished that D.J. was your sister, or wished that she was your best friend, you’ll be really happy with how she is as a mom," Bure said.

One thing that hasn't changed is D.J.'s close friendship with Kimmy. "You’re going to howl over Kimmy!” Bure promised. “Andrea Barber is so funny, it’s ridiculous. She’s even funnier as Kimmy as an adult than she was as a kid." I wonder if she will still call Danny Tanner "Mr. T." We can only hope so!

The Intern is less about age and more about working moms (VIDEO)

It's not that the industry has ignored working moms as a whole. We've seen plenty of movies that feature frazzled women trying to balance their careers and time with children, or films where a woman has achieved great success, only to have her relationship with her kids suffer.

But in The Intern, Hathaway plays Jules Ostin, a successful working mom who has a good relationship with her children. It's a portrayal that we don't see often, and when SheKnows recently sad down with the actress to chat about the film, she had nothing but praise for Nancy Meyers, The Intern's director, for bringing the character to life.

More: Lean In: Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg snags a movie deal

"It's funny, I was at a party for Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In a few years ago and I remember her saying, 'Where are the positive examples of working mothers in Hollywood? Where is the mom who's doing great work at her job, who comes home and her kids don't resent her for it?' And I heard a bunch of Hollywood women going, 'There's no conflict there,'" recalled Hathaway. "So the fact that Nancy was able to tell that story that's so positive and still find conflict in it, I was just so happy."

Anne Hathaway insta 1

Anne Hathaway insta 1

That's not to say Hathaway believes that her portrayal of Jules is a one-size-fits-all mold for working moms; she just thinks it's time that the world sees a different depiction of mothers outside the home.

"Obviously, everybody's got different stories and a lot of working moms — women that work outside the home — are harried, and it does take a minute to learn and get it together and everything," Hathaway said. "And that's also not everyone. So I think it's cool to have a wider variety when we think about women and working women, and working moms and moms who stay at home and all that. It's good. There's enough room for everybody."

More: Anne Hathaway tears up while talking about women who've bad-mouthed her (VIDEO)

The Intern's accurate portrayal of a successful woman working outside the home may come from the fact that Meyers herself is the perfect example of the ultimate working mom. She's been in the industry for over 25 years, balancing her family life with writing, directing and producing huge films like Father of the Bride, What Women Want and The Parent Trap.

Adam DeVine insta 1

"With Nancy, you know, her direction is very specific, but it's good," De Niro told SheKnows. "When she says something, I say, 'You're right. You're absolutely right, let's try that."

The Intern costars, Adam DeVine and Andrew Rannells, echoed De Niro's sentiments about Meyers onset.

More: Adam DeVine wants to make out with Rebel Wilson (again)

"Nancy is really sort of the epitome of, you know, she's so articulate and she's so smart and she creates these very specific worlds, and really you just feel so enveloped in these worlds that she creates," Rannells said to SheKnows. "Even as an audience member."

Nancy Meyers insta 1

So what's the advice the ultimate working mom would give to aspiring female directors? In essence, don't wait for opportunity to knock at your door, go out and make it for yourself.

"Nobody came up to me and said, 'Gee, we'd love you to be the woman that directs this movie.' No. I wrote a script and it was for sale with me as the director,'" Meyers told us, adding, "I can give you advice: Hang in there. I didn't direct my first movie and I didn't direct my second or third or fourth... but it was my husband for many years that directed. Then I started to direct when my kids got a little bit older. And that's what worked for me — I wasn't unhappy with him directing — but at a certain point, I was ready to do it."

With a fierce attitude and success in spades, she was the perfect woman to be chosen to be the first-ever United Nations Foundation Global Advocate for Girls and Women.

Through the UN Foundation she will work to "end gender-based violence, improve maternal health care, and better the voices of the disenfranchised globally."

More: Iggy Azalea's got problems and they might affect Jennifer Lopez

She doesn't credit her success as a performer and artist for fueling her need to give back, but her role as a mom, saying, "Becoming a mother has made me more aware of the struggles of women and children throughout the world. While some progress has been made, there is still a lot more work that needs to be done for gender equality and universal access to medical care."

The creation of this role follows in the footsteps of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Every Woman, Every Child initiative. Launched in 2010, the initiative is a movement to "intensify international and national actions in both the private sector and civil society to address the major health challenges facing women and children."

More: Doughnut shop owners make decision in Ariana Grande licking case

The singer said she has zero tolerance for homophobia and her biggest reason is that her own brother, reality — and soon-to-be Broadway — star Frankie J. Grande is gay.

"I wasn't raised in a household where it was considered abnormal to be gay," she told V Magazine. "So for me to meet people who use the word 'faggot' as an insult, with a derogatory meaning, I can't take it. I don't understand it. It's so foreign to me. I was raised in a household where being gay was like, the most normal thing.

"You know, my brother is gay, all of my best friends are gay. When my brother came out of the closet, it wasn't a big deal for my family. Even my grandpa, who is like, super old-school, was like, Good for you!

"It's outrageous to me when I see people hate on someone because of their sexuality," she continued. "I hate the intolerance. I hate the judgment. I hate it so much. Most of my favorite people in my life are gay. It's something I'm super passionate about, because whenever I would see my friends get bullied, or my brother get hurt for his sexuality, I would become a raging lunatic. I would literally become a raging lunatic because I just can't take it.

"When you see someone you love hurting, for such a superficial, bullshit reason, it's like, how small and spiritually unenlightened and dumb as f*** can a person be? How much further can your head get up your ass that you're actually judging someone as a person based on their sexuality before you even have a conversation with them?"

13 Ways you should be using your pizza cutter but aren't

$
0
0

A pizza cutter can do so much more to make your time in the kitchen easier. These are our favorite uses for it (not including cutting pizza, of course). Try one today, and the rest as soon as you can.

1. Sandwiches

If you have small kids in the house, you are not done making a sandwich once you put the two pieces of bread together. Use the pizza cutter to get rid of the crust and cut the sandwich into more manageable pieces. That last grueling step will go a whole lot faster.

2. Brownies

Let that pan of brownies cool and then use a pizza cutter to slice it into equal pieces. So much faster and cleaner than a knife, I promise.

3. Noodles

If you make homemade noodles, use your pizza cutter to cut the dough into small pieces. It makes the job faster, and the pieces come out neater and equal in size.

4. Lettuce

Shredding lettuce for taco night can be a pain, but not when you use a pizza cutter to get it done.

5. Fondant

Are you an artist of fancy cakes? If so, try using a pizza cutter to get cleaner cuts in your fondant.

6. Flatbread

Cut flatbread in half for sandwiches or strips for dipping in seconds.

7. Quesadillas

All that cheese and filling can make it tricky to cut a quesadilla without making a mess. Use your pizza cutter and you'll be surprised how simple it can be.

8. Pancakes

Cut up your kiddo's pancakes and waffles with this handy tool — you'll actually have them ready to serve before they get cold.

9. Pie dough

Cut perfect strips for your lattice-top pie with your trusty pizza cutter.

10. Herbs

Dice up herbs by laying them flat on a cutting board and running your pizza cutter over them a few times.

11. Veggies

Celery, onions, peppers and more can be sliced in seconds with a pizza cutter.

12. Fudge

Don't end up with a fight in your kitchen over the biggest slice of homemade fudge. The next time you make up a batch, cut it into equal pieces with your pizza cutter.

13. Dumplings

Cut up biscuit dough for dumplings with ease using your new favorite kitchen tool.
