Robert Pattinson admits he has a thing for the weirdos

Robert Pattinson defends Kristen Stewart's cheating

In a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies, Pattinson said, "I think there's definitely something alien about [Hollywood] mainly because people who act — it's really not necessarily just in Hollywood — they're just people who... they examine themselves a lot more and like to talk about it. And I think if you're spending a lot of time being self-obsessed, you just end up being kind of a weirdo."

Despite the fact that Pattinson has been heavily in the spotlight since landing the role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise, the actor seems to have managed to keep his head on straight.

5 Reasons the World Cup reminds us of the Twilight series

And even though he has his head on straight, he surprisingly doesn't reject the weirdos.

"It's kind of interesting," Pattinson continued with a laugh, "but I don't know if my view of Hollywood is particularly like that. I always find weirdos kind of entertaining and interesting and have a lot of patience for them for some reason."

Pattinson's latest film, Maps to the Stars, takes a more clinical and detached tone, which Pattinson explained is filmmaker David Cronenberg's view on the industry.

Perhaps it's Pattinson's ability to sympathize with the strange types that makes him such a great actor.

Maps to the Stars will be released Feb. 15, 2015, though it's appearing in the film festival circles prior to its release and the story is getting some major buzz. Julianne Moore already won the Best Actress Award at Cannes Film Festival for her role in the movie, which tells the dark tale of a Hollywood family. John Cusack and Mia Wasikowska also star.

There's probably only one RHONJ person who'll miss Teresa Giudice

However, there's one person she can count on to miss her while she's in jail for 15 months — Andy Cohen. The Bravo TV host admitted that it was really difficult to film the reunion special for the reality show this time around.

Teresa and Joe Giudice: 10 More WTF quotes

He said in the online Ask Andy Q&A video that the atmosphere was darker than usual.

Cohen explained, "Teresa had just been sentenced, and it seems like it's Teresa's last reunion, so there was an air of real, kind of serious heaviness and emotion that was there the whole time. It was just different. It was emotional, and it was kind of more layered."

It got so rough that the Watch What Happens Live TV personality couldn't even look Giudice in the eyes. "I got really emotional at the end when I was talking to Teresa. I held it together, but I was basically kind of maybe crying," he revealed.

Their goodbye wasn't any easier because Cohen doesn't know when he will see the prison-bound star again.

RHONJ's Teresa and Joe Giudice prepare for something other than prison

"When it ended, I gave her this big hug. I could barely look at her," he continued. "I was basically crying, and I didn't want to cry on camera. I was upset, I was really upset."

Giudice is headed to Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, which serves as the inspiration for the prison featured in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. She will begin her sentence on Jan. 5.

While Cohen has "no idea" if he will visit the RHONJ star, he does know that he's going to miss his fiery Italian friend while she's behind bars.

10 Instagram pics of celebs’ kids that will give you baby fever

Besides the abundance of fun-sized candy bars, adorable kid costumes are our favorite thing about the fall holiday. Celebrities have special access to some pretty cool get-ups and most of them play dress-up by trade, so they really let their creativity run wild on All Hallows' Eve.

Here's a look at some of the most darling little ones we've seen so far this year.

1. North West

Little Nori's mommy, Kim Kardashian, posted a series of amazing photos on Friday morning of her baby in a skunk costume. "A skunk is on the loose!!!!" she wrote in one caption, adding, "My little stinker is waiting to show daddy her costume. Halloween has started early this morning."

Twinkling snowflake luminaries are an inexpensive winter craft

0
0

To create these lighted snowflake luminaries, you will need:

  • Soup can
  • Snowflake stencil (optional)
  • Gold spray paint or other paint
  • Nail
  • Hammer
  • Christmas lights
  • Pencil
  • Can opener
  • Tin snips
  • Scrap of wood (optional)
  • Clamp (optional)

Once you've gathered your supplies, open and clean the can. I suggest using a can opener that does not leave any sharp edges. Remove the label and dry the can well. Spray paint the can gold or paint it your preferred color. I love using spray paint for a project like this to get a quick and even finish, but you can use acrylic paint to paint your can if you prefer.

Let your can dry completely.

Use your snowflake stencil and a pencil to trace a snowflake design onto your painted can. If you don't have a stencil, you can freehand your design. Also feel free to use another holiday design like a star or a Christmas tree.

Clamp a scrap of wood to a desk, countertop or work surface. Use your hammer and a nail to punch the snowflake design in the can. The wood will help create a stable place to punch your holes into. You do not need to do this, but it will help to keep your can in shape with fewer dents and dings.

Use tin snips to cut a small opening in the back of the can for the light cord to go through. We created a small flap in the back of the can.

Insert the Christmas lights into the can, turn the lights on and enjoy!

This soup can craft is perfect to display in your family room, outside on your front patio or even in a child's room as a winter night light!

One of the things I love about this craft is that it is so easy to modify. You can paint the tin can any color you prefer, from gold to red or turquoise — any color could be fun. And the design options you can punch into your tin are endless. Snowflakes are lovely but a Christmas tree or a star would be other fun options for this punched can luminary.

Looking back a century: The top baby names from 1914

0
0

Exactly 100 years ago, life-changing events were taking place around the world:

  • Henry Ford introduced the Model T assembly line at Ford Motor Company.
  • Beverly Hills, California, was established.
  • Charlie Chaplin debuted "The Tramp."
  • The first stone of the Lincoln Memorial was put into place.
  • The first successful blood transfusion was accomplished in Brussels.
  • Babe Ruth pitched his first professional game.
  • Congress approved the first Mother's Day.
  • The foxtrot was introduced by Harry Fox in New York City.
  • The New York post office building opened to the public.

The names parents gave to their sons looked somewhat different, too. The top 10 boy names in 1914 were:

  1. John (which ranks No. 27 today)
  2. William (No. 5)
  3. James (No. 13)
  4. Robert (No. 62)
  5. Joseph (No. 20)
  6. George (No. 157)
  7. Charles (No. 57)
  8. Edward (No. 145)
  9. Frank (No. 327)
  10. Walter (No. 342)

Other popular names for males included traditional monikers such as Thomas, David, Harry, Henry, Paul and Richard, along with the now unfashionable Ralph, Clarence, Irving, Willie, Ernest, Elmer, Herbert, Lester, Floyd, Melvin, Milton, Cecil, Vernon, Gordon and Woodrow.

The names parents gave to their daughters were markedly different than they are today. While many vintage names are making a comeback, most of 1914's top girl names have yet to fall back into favor.

  1. Mary (currently ranked No. 121)
  2. Helen (No. 409)
  3. Dorothy (No. 808)
  4. Margaret (No. 181)
  5. Ruth (No. 329)
  6. Ana (No. 35)
  7. Mildred (not ranked)
  8. Elizabeth (No. 10)
  9. Frances (No. 693)
  10. Marie (No. 573)

Some of the girl names that are being restored include Hattie, Evelyn, Pearl, Rose, Lillian, Ruby, Hazel and Grace. It may be a while, however, before some of the unique antique gems make their way back onto the scene: Florence, Edna, Gladys, Ethel, Edith, Gertrude, Esther, Doris, Beatrice, Bertha, Agnes, Ida, Jean, Viola, Blanche, Beulah and Myrtle.

It's interesting to take a look at where today's most popular names ranked on the charts way back then. Only William and Elizabeth make the top 10 list in both 2014 and 1914. Other names, such as Jayden and Madison, didn't even exist 100 years ago.

  1. Noah (No. 361 in 1914) and Sophia (No. 229 in 1914)
  2. Liam (not ranked) and Emma (No. 39)
  3. Jacob (No. 113) and Olivia (No. 285)
  4. Mason (No. 522) and Isabella (No. 389)
  5. William (No. 2) and Ava (No. 434)
  6. Ethan (not ranked) and Mia (not ranked)
  7. Michael (No. 40) and Emily (No. 98)
  8. Alexander (No. 98) and Abigail (not ranked)
  9. Jayden (not ranked) and Madison (not ranked)
  10. Daniel (No. 55) and Elizabeth (No. 8)

More Twisty? AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy teases rest of season

0
0

The AHS co-creator gave up some juicy tidbits about the series in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, including how each season of the show is connected.

Think Freak Show is creepy? Read The Woman in Brothel X

Freak Show has been knocking it out of the park this season, and the most recent episode revealed a lot about a few of the characters. Elsa's story, in particular, was terrifyingly heartbreaking. Murphy said star Jessica Lange took the scenes in stride.

"She is a big photographer and she collects photography, and she's had an interest in photography of that time. So she's very familiar with what that was. You know she loves a good flashback, Jessica Lange. She was very brave with that stuff. I thought she would be a little more squeamish because she doesn't like a lot of blood, as everyone knows. It was a two-part thing: the tragedy of the snuff film, but then in future episodes we find out who actually made her those perfect legs. So she liked that."

While they didn't make much of an appearance in the most recent episode, things are ramping up for an interesting love story for Dot and Bette. "We're doing, like, a weird five-way thing. Jimmy is clearly in love with Maggie. Dot is in love with Jimmy. But Dandy is in love with the twins, so what the f*** is going to happen? So all of that's in the water. The next two episodes, we really get into the Dandy of it all."

That news is great for all those Dandy fans out there. His character took a big leap forward after the death of Twisty gave the spoiled man-child a chance to step into the killer's shows... or mask, as it were. How does his mother react to everything? Murphy said he studied recent history for clues on their dynamic.

"When I was researching this, I read a lot about Jeffrey Dahmer, because Jeffrey Dahmer's father wrote a book. Being the parent of a sociopath is a hard road! What do you do? You love this child, but you have to do right by the law and by society, and that's Gloria's dilemma."

8 Scariest AHS episodes for a horrific Halloween marathon

Poor Twisty had a rough life and never actually wanted to be a bad guy. Murphy said he always wanted the character to be sympathetic, calling the story "fascinating and bizarre." Twisty fans, take heart — your favorite clown will be back. He's already made quite an impression, judging by the amount of costumes Murphy saw in his honor on Halloween.

"I've already seen three Twistys, so he apparently hit a nerve. I love him. I loved his performance. He will return," Murphy promised.

Some fans have been waiting on pins and needles to find out exactly who Matt Bomer would be playing since news broke that he would be on the show. Good news: you won't have to wait much longer. Bomer is set to appear in the next episode in a scene Murphy described as "the most disturbing thing" the show has done to date. That's really saying something, considering what we've seen on Freak Show already.

"Everyone was freaked out when we did it," Murphy said about the scene. "Matt thought it was a real acting challenge, so that's why he did it. I think Episode 5 ups the horror quotient in a real way on our show."

Who else is both excited and frightened to see what that scene will be next week?

Finally, for those of you fans who have been speculating how all the various seasons of American Horror Story are connected, it turns out you might be right. Murphy said that while each season has its own beginning, middle and end, some of the mythologies will intertwine.

8 Skills Neil Patrick Harris can show off on AHS: Freak Show

"They're all connected. We're just beginning to tell you how they're connected. They're all very separate, but there's clues every season that we're now telling you how the different worlds are intertwined," Murphy said.

Be sure to watch American Horror Story: Freak Show on Wednesday nights at 10/9c on FX.

Kendra on Top: Did Hugh Hefner really give Kendra the best advice?

Kendra on Top: Hank admits he did something wrong — sort of

At the start of this week's show, Baskett is nowhere to be seen, so we know there likely won't be any revelations in the first episode — at least not from him.

To the mansion we go

While "trying to adjust to life as a single mom," Wilkinson decides to load up and seek counsel from her pre-Baskett main man, Hugh Hefner.

After her bestie Jessica Hall takes the kids into another room so Wilkinson can chat more intimately with Hefner, the ex-Bunny opens up about her confusion and heartache. Hef, proving that he's actually a pretty sage old dude, offers a blunt but balanced perspective.

"I couldn't imagine anyone more well-suited than the two of you," he says. "So when all this hit the fan, it was unreal. But you've got two beautiful children. Whatever else happened... Hank is a good guy. He obviously f***ed up. That's human," he says, before offering up a theory.

"From a distance, it looks like he was set up."

But couldn't it be problematic for Hefner to put an idea like that in Wilkinson's head at this point? Yes and no, says SheKnows dating and relationship expert Andrea Syrtash.

"Hefner is an important person in Kendra's life and it's good for her to hear from people she trusts. In general, different perspectives are valuable so she can make an informed decision," Syrtash told us.

Naturally, there's a but.

"That said, nothing should supersede Kendra's gut feeling and instinct. She knows her husband better than anyone; and there may be a good reason she is questioning his story."

To track down Dad or not to?

Chatting with Hefner, though, does make Wilkinson circle back around to the notion that she has such trust issues because she never got any kind of closure with her own father.

Kendra Wilkinson hears her husband's sex tape and still isn't leaving him

After making sure Wilkinson is serious, Hall hops on the computer and quickly pinpoints Wilkinson's father. Interestingly enough, ol' Eric Wilkinson is a nudist surfer multimillionaire.

That's quite a skill set, if you ask us.

The first episode ends with the girls theorizing about how one in a nudist colony might handle getting a boner and then, after Hall leaves, Wilkinson asks Raskal (possibly the world's most portly Corgi) if she should call her father.

Accordingly, Wilkinson soon goes upstairs and dials her long-lost dad.

The conversation is short but super-sweet, and they agree to try to be active in each other's lives. Perhaps Wilkinson would be up for a trip to Costa Rica to visit her dad at his house there, he asks, and it seems like Wilkinson is actually considering going.

Hmm. Might bringing another potentially unstable relationship into her kids' lives at this point cause even more emotional turmoil?

SheKnows parenting expert Vera Sweeney thinks so — and she has personal experience with this sort of scenario.

"My father is no longer in my life because he is just too unstable for my children and for their mental health. There is no way that Kendra should have introduced another shaky relationship to little Hank's life," said Sweeney.

Kendra on Top: Are Hank's tears real, or is he manipulating her?

"He needs structure. He needs balance. He needs sanity and straight lines. Instead, this poor boy lives in a state of chaos and confusion. What good will his grandfather do? What if he forms a bond with him and then he decides to leave? Another burn he will have to live with and age prematurely from."

As a mother, Wilkinson should first consider how these types of decisions could impact her family. "Kids need to be sheltered from damaging forces, and it is the parents' jobs to do this," Sweeney said. "Kendra made a mistake with this one."

Still, when Baskett calls, Wilkinson tells him she is thinking of taking that trip to Costa Rica — an idea her estranged husband seems to scoff at. Wilkinson, although slightly annoyed, halfheartedly agrees to visit Baskett later at his apartment.

<del>Spying on</del> Visiting Baskett

After a quick stop at Dr. Monica's, Wilkinson arrives at Baskett's apartment to discover he isn't there... but his door is unlocked. She walks in and, seeing he really isn't there, starts to snoop in his phone and on his computer.

Kendra Wilkinson finally tells us the truth about the cheating scandal

When Baskett walks in and catches her, he makes a snarky comment about knowing that he needs to lock his door. Hold up. Does he have a right to be indignant?

"It isn't unusual to want to 'snoop' or investigate when you've been betrayed and lied to by your partner," says Syrtash. "Kendra is trying to gather evidence and put pieces together in a story that doesn't add up. I don't blame her for looking around, but there's a better way to do this than to break into your partner's accounts or riffle through his drawers and closets — when caught, he can throw it in your face: 'And you don't trust me?'"

But, ultimately, Baskett should be an open book at this point.

"Instead of snooping, Hank should give his wife access to his social media accounts and messages and keep an open door policy, literally. This approach may be too much for a couple that has developed trust and healthy boundaries, but in a case like this, he should make these things available to his wife so she knows she truly has nothing to worry about. Rather than being indignant, Hank should show his wife — not just tell his wife — that he can be trusted."

And as far as that goes, Baskett's still flailing. When Wilkinson asks him again to tell her something (anything!), the former pro baller can't muster up the truth. This, in turn, infuriates Wilkinson, who asserts to him that they "are not married right now."

With such definitive statements being tossed out, is there any hope of reconciliation for this couple, really?

"By saying this, Kendra is likely trying to hurt Hank's feelings and distance herself from him. She's hurt, and wants him to know how it feels to be rejected," Syrtash says.

"If they want to save their marriage, they have to stop trying to hurt, undermine or offend the other," she explains. "They have to remember that in marriage, you are on the same side as your partner. It doesn't make sense to have a winner and a loser."

How the Kendra on Top premiere was real, relatable and so devastating

Unfortunately, Baskett doesn't make any headway in the truth-telling department as this week's Kendra on Top closes. Instead, when Wilkinson makes it clear she can't trust him, he offers yet another frustratingly cryptic response.

"I know right now I don't have that, and it's eating me alive," he tells his wife, "and that's why I'm trying so hard to talk to you about things. I just want you to know I will."

What do you think? Is Baskett trying to stall in the hopes the season will end before he actually ever has to fess up?

Check out a sneak peek from next week here.

3 Clever ways to wrap gift cards, booze and other presents

0
0

Gift cards and money

Gift cards and money often make great gifts, especially for those who are hard to shop for. But more often than not, they come in an envelope, which totally takes away from the surprise of unwrapping a present. This year make things a little more exciting by taking a few extra minutes to wrap them in an extra-special way.

Supplies:

  • Paper towel rolls or toilet paper rolls
  • Tissue paper
  • Ribbon

Directions:

Step 1

Slide the gift card into your paper roll. If you're using a paper towel roll, you can cut it into halves or even thirds.

Step 2

Lay your roll with the gift card inside on a piece of tissue. Leave about 4 to 5 inches on both sides and enough tissue paper to be able to wrap around the roll about twice.

Step 3

Wrap the tissue paper around your roll and hold in place.

Step 4

Give the open ends a twist like a candy wrapper.

Step 5

Tie up the ends with a pretty bow, using the ribbon.

Wrapping a bottle of wine

Bottles of wine are an easy gift to bring to any celebration. This season make a bottle of wine into a great two-in-one gift by wrapping it in a dish towel. It's a reusable gift that will come in handy for your hostess.

Supplies:

  • Dish towel
  • Ribbon

Directions:

Step 1

Lay your dish towel out flat, then stand the bottle of wine in the center of the towel.
Step 2

Bring the ends of your dish towel together at the top of the wine bottle.
Step 3
At the neck of the wine bottle, take your ribbon and tie it into a bow around the dish towel.
Step 4
Gift your newly-dressed bottle of wine to your hostess at the next dinner party.

Making your own custom wrapping paper

Making your own wrapping paper adds a personal touch to your gift. You can use plain wrapping paper or even upcycle old paper bags and personalize them with permanent markers.

Supplies:

  • Plain wrapping paper
  • Sharpie markers

Directions:

Step 1

Unfold your wrapping paper and lay on a flat surface. With your markers make a simple pattern — it can be dots or lines, or even doodles, whatever design you create.
Step 2
Once you have finished creating your pattern, measure off the right amount of paper to wrap your gift.
Step 3
Wrap your gift with your newly-designed wrapping paper. You can add some ribbon and a bow to finish it off.

Abigail Breslin gets weird over sloths, Iggy Azalea, and we love it (VIDEO)

0
0

But when we sat down with the now 18-year-old actress to chat about her new movie, we had no idea how much wonderful weirdness was in store for us — and how much more fangirldom that would make us feel for the quirky star.

On her new movie (and totally freaking people out)

Breslin, whose obscenely funny turn in Little Miss Sunshine made her one of the most in-demand young actresses in Hollywood, first impressed us with some behind-the-scenes insight from her latest project, Maggie.

Abigail Breslin Maggie GIF

GIF via GIFsoup

In the film, Breslin plays the title character — a beautiful young woman who becomes infected by a deadly zombie virus plaguing the world. Touchingly, her father (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) refuses to leave her side... even as she turns into a cannibalistic zombie.

Heavy stuff, no? The real fun, it would seem, happened when the cameras weren't rolling.

"I kinda filmed it around Halloween time, and I would just wear my zombie makeup out to dinner," Breslin said, "and it was really fun 'cause I just got to, like, freak people out with it."

She's not joking. Breslin admitted to having used her zombie-fication to toy with unsuspecting patrons at upscale eateries.

"I would wear a dress and have zombie veins all over my legs, and I would be standing at the sink at this really nice restaurant washing my hands. And this woman walked in, and she's like, 'Um, you have something on your leg,' and I was like, 'No, no... sorry. I'm really veiny.' What can I say? It's really fun."

But becoming a faux zombie and scaring the ever-loving hell out of people isn't just for Breslin — she encourages us to indulge our inner prankster as well. It's not hard to nail, she assured, saying, "Basically, if you just bring some dark eye shadow, put it right under your eye, you'll look like a zombie."

Abigail Breslin GIF

GIF via GIFsoup

The terrifying part of playing a zombie for Breslin, it turns out, is the fact that she apparently plays one a little too well.

"For me, the scariest thing was that they would do stage one zombie makeup, and they would just be like, 'We're just not going to put makeup on you at all!' And I'm like, 'Thank you. So, basically what you are saying is that I look like a zombie when I wake up in the morning naturally, and you don't even need to add makeup to enhance the zombie-ism.' Like, I'm already there. I'm there already," she said. "These aren't really zombie tips, just zombie tidbits."

Clearly, Breslin enjoys the macabre — but she doesn't consider herself creepy. Er, sort of.

On how not to be a total dating creeper

When asked about dating advice, the star launched into the kind of adorable, barely coherent, stream of consciousness response we imagine is a daily occurrence.

"Dating advice would be never stalk a guy's profile or any of his exes' profiles, 'cause it just gives you so much anxiety, and then you're like, 'Has he liked any of her pictures?' and 'Does she look good in those pictures?' and 'Did he comment on them?' and 'Did she write on his wall for his birthday?' And there were two x's at the end, which obviously means that they were madly in love and she is way cooler than me, and I'm never going to compete, and that's just a really vicious cycle, and then before you know it you're lurking her cousin's best friend's husband's daughter's, like, dog.

"And you're like, 'Why am I here? How did this happen? How did it get here when he has never mentioned her name before, and it's just speculation, and they weren't even dating... they were just friends on Facebook," she said. "So exhausting."

Hypothetically, of course.

"I've never done that," she replied sardonically, "but I was just saying if I was to give dating advice, that would probably be one of them. Not that I know, but I have heard things from people that they could do all that stuff, and that's not OK — that's creepy, which I don't do because I'm not creepy at all."

On pacifying her angsty teen heart with social media

But speaking of social stalking, Breslin does have a pretty prolific presence online. "My favorite social media platform would probably be Twitter, just because it's easy and quick," she said, "but I also love Tumblr, because it speaks to my 18-year-old angst heart."

And, well, she tends to wear her virtual heart on her sleeve.

"I Tumblr — I don't know what the proper grammar is for that. I tumble usually blogs about feelings and boys, and I re-blog a lot of Christmas countdowns and kittens, 'cause I'm lame," she admitted.

It's exactly that kind of whirling dervish of girlish things that Breslin spans on her social media feeds. From cryptic-slash-poetic musings on music:

And, naturally, her utter fascination with sloths:

Abigail Breslin 7

Abigail Breslin 7

Which, as luck would have it, Breslin isn't afraid to gush about her love for sloths in person, either.

On her girl(-ish?) crushes

"My love for sloths is not really something that can be defined, and it cannot be really discussed in a proper way because there's no limit to the love for sloths I have inside me," she said. "It's, like, I will see a sloth in a picture, and it's just an overwhelming sense of joy and happiness."

She even confesses to dreaming about the day she will meet the sloth of her dreams. "They love hibiscus flowers — it's like chocolate to them. So I think if I met a sloth, I would just bring them one and be like, 'Here you go. I am not worthy of your eye contact.' But I would just like to be a sloth in another life maybe. I dunno... maybe I was. You don't know," she said.

Sloths aren't the only paramours taking up residence in her heart these days, though. Breslin's other infatuation is, well, not a sloth at all.

"My girl crush would be Iggy Azalea. I just love her so much. I one time tweeted, 'Can somebody please Photoshop a picture of me and Iggy Azalea together?' And then I just posted it on Facebook just to see if people would think that it was real, and it was a selfie," she said.

"I was like, 'Iggy always photo bombing me, love her!' And everybody was like, 'Your hair has angles in this — this is so Photoshopped.' And I was just like, 'Yeah, that's what I meant to do. It was supposed to be ironic, duh.' But I love Iggy Azalea."

Well, Breslin, ask, and you shall receive. We <del>created</del> uncovered a few stellar photos of you and your inevitable next BFF, Iggy Azalea, hanging out and took the liberty of creating a little collage.

Abigail Breslin Iggy Azalea

To be honest, we totally understand wanting to superimpose ourselves into someone else's life. We were girl-crushin' on Breslin before this interview, and now we're even more infatuated with her quirky spirit. We can't think of anything cuter than her.

Except maybe sloths... sloths are pretty damn cute.

interstellar

1. Interstellar

Starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, this sci-fi thriller suggests that humans need to leave Earth if we want to continue to prosper at the top of the food chain. A bold plan indeed, but will it work? We don't know, but we'd certainly follow McConaughey to the end of the universe.

Interstellar blasts off Nov. 7.

2. The Theory of Everything

We've all heard of the theoretical physicist Steven Hawking (Eddie Redmayne), though few of us could explain in detail his theorems on gravitational singularity. Luckily, we don't have to understand quantum physics to enjoy the new film The Theory of Everything because it primarily focuses on Hawking's relationship with his first wife, Jane (Felicity Jones).

The Theory of Everything solves mysteries of the universe on Nov. 7.

Miss Meadows (Katie Holmes) may be your kid's favorite teacher, but she has a dark secret: she's also a vigilante! OK, we all know how little teachers get paid, but moonlighting as a hired killer? It's just crazy enough for us to love this indie drama.

This tragic true story of Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz gets really weird when billionaire John du Pont begins to sponsor the U.S. Wrestling Team. Steve Carell gives an amazing yet creepy performance as du Pont in this true-life crime drama.

Baby names that you would want to name your main character

0
0

Since 1999, the month of November has been deemed National Novel Writing Month, and scribes everywhere aim to pen a 50,000-word rough draft. One of the tasks authors must complete is naming their characters. It's not exactly like naming a baby, but in a way, it is, particularly if dreams come true and the novel winds up on bookshelves. What baby names, then, work well for main characters?

You have to consider the qualities your character has. Is she a strong-willed heroine, or is he a rough-around-the edges private detective? As you look over these potential character names, keep in mind what the name sounds like and how it makes you feel. Are you looking for an ultra-classic, old-fashioned character name? A soft, feminine character name? A serious character name?

These names work well for your novel-writing adventures, no matter what type of character you're bringing to life.

Spaghetti squash with roasted jalapeno cheese sauce recipe

So have you ever tried spaghetti squash before? I think it's the most fun squash to make because there's absolutely no fuss involved. The hardest part is cutting it in half lengthwise, but I'll share my secret with you. I grab the one I want in the grocery store and then take it to one of the employees working in the produce department to cut it in half for me. They generally have a big old cleaver kind of knife that gets the job done.

Spaghetti squash with roasted jalapeno cheese sauce recipe

The fun part about making spaghetti squash is that it's over-the-top easy. Just scoop out the seeds, add some water in the middle of the squash, cover with a wet paper towel, and heat it up in the microwave. Then it's like magic when you take a fork to loosen up the strands of squash.

OK, enough about squash already. Let's check out the recipe for these nachos so you can get your veggies on for the day — not to mention get your daily requirement of roasted jalapeño cheese sauce.

Serves 2

Prep time: 20 minutes | Cook time: 25 minutes | Total time 45 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 8 corn tortillas
  • 1/2 cup canola oil (or more depending on the size of the pan)
  • 5 dashes salt
  • 1/2 small spaghetti squash, cut lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 large jalapeños
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 cup half-and-half (or cream)
  • 1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onion

Directions:

For the tortilla chips

  1. Cut each tortilla into 5 triangles.
  2. Heat a medium-size skillet on medium heat, and add the canola oil.
  3. Test the heat by adding just 1 piece of tortilla. When it sizzles, add the remaining tortillas in batches.
  4. Cook each side of the tortillas until they're golden brown, and then set them on a plate with a paper towel on it.
  5. Sprinkle the tortilla chips with salt, and transfer them to a serving plate. Set aside.
For the spaghetti squash
  1. Lay the squash open side up on a microwave-safe plate, and add water inside the cavity.
  2. Cover with a wet paper towel, and cook in the microwave for 10 minutes.
  3. Carefully remove the squash (it will be hot) from the microwave, leaving the paper towel on top.
  4. Let set for about 5 minutes to steam a bit more.
  5. Using a dinner fork, scrape out the strands of squash.
  6. Let cool for about 5 minutes, and then spread out the squash evenly on top of the tortilla chips. There will be some squash left over.
For the roasted jalapeños
  1. Turn the gas burner on medium heat. Using tongs, carefully hold the jalapeño over the heat for 60 to 90 seconds, until the skin on 1 side chars and blisters.
  2. Turn the jalapeño over with the tongs to heat the other side for 60 to 90 seconds, until the skin chars and blisters.
  3. Still using the tongs, put the charred jalapeño into a baggie for about 5 minutes so it will steam and the skin will be easier to remove. Repeat the process with the remaining jalapeño.
  4. Use the tongs to pull the jalapeños out of the baggie, and lay them on a plate or cutting board.
  5. Use the tongs to hold the stem of the jalapeño, and with your other hand, use a knife to scrape off the skin.
  6. Carefully cut out and discard the stem and seeds. Avoid touching the jalapeño with your hands.
  7. Chop the jalapeños, and set them aside.
For the jalapeño cheese sauce
  1. Heat a small pan on low heat.
  2. Add both cheeses, the half-and-half and the jalapeños.
  3. Stir constantly until the mixture turns into a sauce.
  4. Drizzle the cheese sauce over the tortilla chips, and top with red bell pepper and green onion.
  5. Serve while the cheese sauce is hot.

Vegan gluten-free cookies are your fave healthy dessert

I recently started using almond flour and coconut flour in my baked goods to keep things gluten-free, but they also happen to add wonderful flavors to these cookies. Make sure you follow the directions if using coconut flour. If you aren't familiar with it, this flour is highly absorbent and can easily wreck your goodies if you don't use it correctly. And don't worry about the flours having overpowering flavors — they are mild and lend a really nice background to these healthy cookies.

Nutty vegan hemp seed cookies recipe

Nutty vegan hempseed cookie recipe

These delicious, organic, vegan and gluten-free cookies are chock-full of oats, almond butter and almond and coconut flours, and they are sweetened with coconut sugar. They are also full of protein-rich hempseeds and dried cranberries.

Yields 12

Prep time: 15 minutes | Bake time: 14 minutes | Inactive time: 30 minutes | Total time: 59 mintues

Ingredients:

Dry ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons ground flaxseeds (mixed with 6 tablespoons warm water), plus extra for topping
  • 1-1/2 cups organic almond flour
  • 1/2 cup organic coconut flour
  • 1/2 cup gluten-free oats
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup hemp hearts or hempseeds, plus extra for garnish
  • 1/4-1/2 cup organic coconut sugar or organic brown sugar, depending on desired sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt or sea salt
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup organic dried cranberries

Wet ingredients

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1/4 cup organic almond butter, warmed
  • 1/4 cup vanilla almond milk

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the ground flaxseeds with the 6 tablespoons of warm water. Mix well, and allow to sit for 10 minutes or until very thick. (This will act as a binder in place of eggs.)
  3. In a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients.
  4. To a separate bowl, add all the wet ingredients, and mix very well.
  5. Fold the soaked flaxseed mixture along with the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until the mixture is well incorporated.
  6. Using a medium-size cookie scoop or a tablespoon, spoon the dough onto the baking sheet, and sprinkle the tops with extra hempseeds.
  7. Bake the cookies for 12 to 14 minutes or until they are lightly browned. Be careful to not overbake.
  8. Transfer the cookies to a cooling rack, and let them cool for 30 minutes. Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

Lena Dunham accused of being a molester, goes on a Twitter ‘rage spiral’

0
0

A right-wing blog has pointed to certain sections of Dunham's collection of essays Not That Kind of Girl as a confession that she sexually abused her sister Grace when they were children. Dunham describes bribing Grace to kiss her and masturbating in bed next to her — and in one section relays how she even got up close and personal with her sister's vajayjay, only to get quite a surprise. Dunham wrote:

Lena Dunham's #WomenAreWatching: 5 Things you need to know right now

"'Do we all have uteruses?' I asked my mother when I was seven.

'Yes,' she told me. 'We're born with them, and with all our eggs, but they start out very small. And they aren't ready to make babies until we're older.' I look at my sister, now a slim, tough one-year-old, and at her tiny belly. I imagined her eggs inside her, like the sack of spider eggs in Charlotte's Webb, and her uterus, the size of a thimble.

'Does her vagina look like mine?'

'I guess so,' my mother said. 'Just smaller.'

One day, as I sat in our driveway in Long Island playing with blocks and buckets, my curiosity got the best of me. Grace was sitting up, babbling and smiling, and I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina. She didn't resist and when I saw what was inside I shrieked.

My mother came running. 'Mama, Mama! Grace has something in there!'

My mother didn't bother asking why I had opened Grace's vagina. This was within the spectrum of things I did. She just on her knees and looked for herself. It quickly became apparent that Grace had stuffed six or seven pebbles in there. My mother removed them patiently while Grace cackled, thrilled that her prank had been a success."

Taylor Swift says Lena Dunham educated her on feminism

The title of TruthRevolt's article: "Lena Dunham Describes Sexually Abusing Her Little Sister." Beyond the title, another major problem is that the piece originally said Dunham was 17 at the time of the incident, not 7.

Dunham is not amused, In fact, she is the polar opposite of amused, and she let it be known all over Twitter.

Here's how Johnny Depp’s street cred just went through the roof (VIDEO)

During Marilyn Manson's encore performance Halloween night at the Roxy in LA, Johnny Depp and Die Antwoord rapper Ninja joined Manson in a predictably creepy rendition of "Beautiful People." We have to hand it to Depp: It takes a lot of guts to get on stage with Manson on a normal day, but he was super brave to rock out with the legendary creep-fest on Halloween night.

Johnny Depp from hot to huh? in 12 photos

Throughout the performance, Depp wows us with killer guitar skills and deftly avoids being molested by Manson and Ninja, who scream through the lyrics, roll around on stage and gesture inappropriately at one another and at Depp. Depp steals the show by being the cool guy in the corner, nailing his guitar riffs, and laughing each time one of the singers tries to accost him. (NSFW — harsh and inappropriate language. If you want to hit a Depp highlight, skip to 3:34 and play to 3:51.)

20 Hot guys you totally forgot were in scary movies

Depp has also jammed in live performances with ZZ Top (for the entire 90 minute set), Keith Richards and Alice Cooper. This isn't the first time Depp has rocked out with Manson, either. The two teamed up in 2012 to perform "Sweet Dreams." Depp makes an entrance at the 50-second mark and does an excellent job keeping his cool while Manson sings in a way that makes us wonder whether he'd make the first cut of eliminations on American Idol. In fact, don't feel bad if you have to mute this to watch Depp perform. We won't tell anyone.
