The Veronica Mars spinoff trailer was funny and depressing

Veronica Mars cast reunites for new web series >>

In the spoof, a copier prints script pages. But instead of seeing the serious lines of the dramatic final season of The Newsroom, the Play It Again, Dick script features such witty dialogue as, "Everyone else is outside at the clothing-optional pool" and "Aaaaaarrrrgggghhh!!!"

Of course, the spoof trailer ends with spinoff lead, Ryan Hansen, photocopying his butt. We just see his pants down around his ankles as the copier machine lights up from above.

Our favorite Veronica Mars moments in GIFs >>

Then, cue the partying montage of what's to come in the series.

Now, while this is all well and good, there is one big problem with this fun and quirky trailer: It is a far cry from the Veronica Mars we know and love. Sure, Ryan Hansen's character, Dick, is great comedic relief, but Veronica Mars was never a quirky comedy. It dealt with heavy themes of murder and rape and kept us on our toes all the way through. So, while this spinoff looks goofy and silly, it is not sticking with the feel of the show we once knew, which means we aren't sure if it will appeal to Veronica Mars fans.

Plus, Kristen Bell is only making a brief cameo in a few episodes. The show will focus on a fictionalized version of Hansen, who thinks it's a great idea to create a spinoff focused on himself and his Veronica Mars character, Dick Casablancas, of course.

The spinoff series will consist of eight episode, each between seven and 10 minutes. The first two episodes will premiere on CW Seed on Sept. 16, with one new episode each following week.

Ed Sheeran (sort of) apologizes for Miley Cyrus feud

Back off, haters: Ed Sheeran says there's no shame in pop >>

On the red carpet at the Grammy Awards, the singer ranted about current pop culture — but it was obvious he was talking about Miley Cyrus.

"Twerking is what strippers do. It's a fact. If you go to a strip club, not that I go to strip clubs, but if you go to a strip club, they twerk. You shouldn't be encouraging little kids to twerk. If I had a daughter of mine, I wouldn't want her twerking," Sheeran said at the time. "When I first heard 'Wrecking Ball,' I thought it was a brilliant song. But the video distracts too much from it."

But it turns out Sheeran didn't exactly mean everything he said and he has admitted the rant is a bit of a drunken regret. He spoke with Howard Stern Monday and may have come as close to apologizing as he ever will.

"There was a thing that happened around a year ago involving Miley Cyrus. I was at an after-party at the Grammys, had a bit [to drink] and there was a red carpet at this after-party," he explained, according to Yahoo UK. "I just had a bit of a rant, which I didn't really mean. I woke up the next morning and got this anxiety thing."

Sheeran added that someday he will find the right way to apologize for everything he said.

Even though Cyrus never said anything in response to Sheeran, her attitude at the MTV Video Music Awards this year may be evidence enough of how she feels. As Sheeran won his VMA, Cyrus was in the crowd, not smiling and not clapping. But Sheeran said that was probably only because he doesn't know the "Wrecking Ball" singer.

It looks like the ball is now in Miley Cyrus' court. Let's just hope this time she doesn't go swinging on it.

Not only are these contemporary kitchen cabinets by German designer Leicht visually stunning, but they're full of function to boot. Super-deep drawers take the fuss out of storing larger items like pitchers, soup pots and more.

These Adornus cabinets by ADI Supply feature sleek, euro slab frameless doors for an unmistakably modern feel. Also, note the to-die-for aluminum toe kick along the cabinetry's base.

Definitely a focal point of the room, this kitchen island boasts a combination of rift-cut white oak cabinetry with chic bronzed metal legs. Pleasantly contrasting the island's contemporary styling, though, is more traditional white painted cabinetry around the perimeter.

It's strange for something so sleek and modern to also feel organic and warm, but that's exactly what this ultra-streamlined Italian cabinetry by EffeQuattro manages.

Who says kitchen cabinetry is only for storing pots, pans and utensils? We adore these completely customizable peg board pull-outs by Fieldstone Cabinetry that allow you to turn any corner of your kitchen into a crafting station (or whatever strikes your fancy).

If you want cabinetry that will truly stand out, why not try concrete? Concrete surfaces have what designers call "a characteristic expression" totally unique to the material, which makes it both timeless and dramatic. Bonus? It's also environmentally friendly.

Understated glamour. That's what we think of when we look at this Kyton kitchen. Although we're partial to the espresso and bright white combo shown here, there's no shortage of styling options for the adventurous at heart. These cabinets come in finishes of wood, embossed or glossy lacquered MDF and glass, as well as a wide variety of wood finishes and colors.

The days when anything outside of white was considered a kitchen faux pas are over. While white cabinetry is certainly still a classic choice, cabinetry such as Mya by Composit USA goes to show that mixing materials, finishes and — yes — even colors creates a unforgettable style.

Designed by P.G. Cazzaniga, this kitchen is the picture of modern sophistication. The cabinets' smooth surfaces are uninterrupted by vertical and horizontal cuts, handles or anything of the like. They are built to suit each individual space which, in this case, means incorporating a distinctive curve design.

Wood used to be the be-all, end-all standard in cabinetry material, but modern advances are allowing us to explore many more exciting alternatives. These Pom KBF cabinets are created using custom made acrylic, which is both beautiful and environmentally friendly. The color can be completely customized to suit the specific taste of the homeowner.

Dubbed "New York Modern," this seemingly seamless kitchen was custom built by Utah-based company Cottonwood Fine Kitchen Furniture and can we just say wowza? Between the high-gloss white cabinetry and the contrasting colored countertops, we're in kitchen design nirvana.

These Harmoni cabinets are called "Mountain Modern," and you know what? We totally get that. The design is decidedly contemporary, of course, and the brushed look of the cabinet's Lido Door makes us think of natural rock formations or ice covered trees — both of which hearken the mountains.

Let us just pause for a moment to appreciate the ingenuity that went into this cabinetry. OK, now, more specifically, let's take a look at the brilliant drawers directly under the range. Why bother keeping pots and pans organized? It's impossible. These deep drawers are perfect for stashing them all in an discreet, easy to access location. Bravo, Venuti Woodworking. Bravo.

If this isn't the largest kitchen island ever, we want to meet the homeowner who has a bigger one. Can you imagine the dinner parties held at this thing? But we digress, not only is the island impressively large, but it is stunning, thanks to full access cabinets with slab doors and book matched zebra wood.

We're suckers for a lacquered finish, and the Huntwood cabinets in this kitchen are divinely lustrous. We adore the color and, to be frank, it looks like it would be easy to clean. The sleek, fold-over style island is likewise on our wish list.

Daryl Hannah reportedly dating still-married Neil Young

Neil Young and Willie Nelson protest Keystone XL pipeline >>

Young filed for divorce from his wife, Pegi, last month, but it hadn't yet been revealed he was seeing someone else. It turns out that he and Hannah may not be a brand-new couple.

"They've been dating for months," a source told People. "They've taken no effort to even hide it. He recorded a new album a few weeks ago, and she was on Skype the entire time, giving him feedback on every take. He even told people in the studio she was his 'girlfriend.'"

Hannah is a passionate environmentalist and she apparently met Young while they were filming a documentary for Greenpeace about the Alberta Tar Sands.

"They've appeared at many, many protest rallies together over the past year," the source added. "The fans have known about this for months."

Daryl Hannah in the slammer for pipeline protest >>

Young's former musical collaborator, David Crosby, spoke with the Idaho Statesman earlier this week and alluded to the fact that Hannah had been responsible for the end of Young's marriage.

"I happen to know that [Young] is hanging out with somebody that's a purely poisonous predator now," Crosby explained. "And that's karma. He's gonna get hurt. But I understand why it happened. I'm just sad about it. I'm always sad when I see love tossed in the gutter."

Arnold Schwarzenegger erases ex from official portrait

Maria Shriver reportedly had affair during marriage >>

Local news agencies reported Thursday that there's now an obvious blotch on the Governator's lapel in the portrait — a blotch that looks suspiciously like a hurried edit to remove Schwarzenegger's estranged wife, Maria Shriver, from the painting.

The portrait was officially unveiled this week to hang in the Capitol building. Sources have told local news that Shriver's face originally appeared in the painting, however, on a lapel pin the former governor was wearing when he sat for the portrait.

Schwarzenegger's former assistant, Clay Russell, told the San Francisco Chronicle that he saw the original painting when it was done several years ago, while Schwarzenegger was still in office.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver: No divorce yet >>

"It was unusual for a portrait to be done so soon — a couple of years into the administration," Russell said.

And now, Russell is defending Schwarzenegger's apparent choice to replace his ex with a sloppy smudge of blue paint.

"Considering everything, it's not that odd," he said. "It would have been weirder if it was already up and he had removed it."

Schwarzenegger and Shriver split in 2010, when it was revealed he was the father of a child with the couple's longtime housekeeper. Since then, allegations of infidelity on Shriver's part have also surfaced.

Years after Schwarzenegger and Shriver split, they have yet to finalize a divorce, leading many to think they may still reconcile. But a comment made by Austrian artist, Gottfried Helnwein, who painted the official gubernatorial portrait, makes it sound like that's far from the truth.

Maria Shriver headed back to NBC as "special anchor" >>

Helnwein mentioned to a reporter that the painting contains "one little interesting detail... which I cannot give away because I am not allowed to tell, but it was very important and meaningful to the governor."

Josh Hutcherson: JLaw hacking scandal is 'f***ing horrible'

The main reason you shouldn't look at JLaw and other celebs' nudes >>

But since filming on The Hunger Games wrapped, Hutcherson finds himself missing the role — and his co-stars. He has been especially worried about Jennifer Lawrence lately, since nude photos of her were hacked and released last month. Hutcherson considers Lawrence his "big sister" and said he is feels so bad for his friend for what she must be going through.

"I haven't spoken to her since it happened, but as far as the public, Twitter, and media have reacted, it's awful," he told the Daily Beast. "We act because it's what we want to do. I've acted since I was nine years old because it's my job, it's what I’m good at, and it's what I love to do. I don't want attention. I don't want to have my private life looked into or have people think they deserve to know about my private life. And then people say, 'Well, then you shouldn't have become an actor.' F*** that. I didn't choose all that. I chose to be an actor. I was nine years old! Do you think a 9-year-old is thinking about public scandal? I wanted to make movies."

Hutcherson added, "It's f***in' horrible."

Josh Hutcherson is mourning the loss of The Hunger Games role >>

The actor is currently in Toronto filming his next role, Escobar: Paradise Lost, but he said he is grieving the loss of his Hunger Games family. Hutcherson was obviously upset over what his friend is going through and added that, "It makes you feel like you want to run away from it all and escape to a small island away from everybody."

Pamela Anderson thinks her marriage is normal

Pam Anderson slams ALS for testing on animals >>

The former Baywatch star's marriage to Rick Salomon happens to be on right now, and if you ask Pam, she'll tell you the extremes the couple is managing to weather are just part of the marriage game.

"It's a real marriage," Pam told People on Thursday. "It has its ups and downs."

Yeah, Pam. Ups and downs are one thing.

Pam Anderson changes her mind, divorce off >>

The two got married for the first time in 2007. Two months later, they had that marriage annulled. Then they reconciled and got married again earlier this year. Then, in July, Pam filed for another divorce. A little over a month later, she petitioned the judge to throw that divorce filing out.

"I think we're doing fine," Anderson added during her interview with People. She went on to say she's happy being back together with her hubby for the time being, even though she has no idea what the future holds for them. Another breakup, maybe? That kind of seems to be their thing.

"We're very happy," Anderson told E! News right after the second — or was it third? I can't keep track — time they got back together. "Our families are very happy and that's all that matters."

Pam kind of sounds like a broken record, constantly insisting to reporters that she's happy — maybe she's just trying to convince herself. In any case, she's completely delusional. A normal marriage has ups and downs, Pam. Maybe ignoring the age-old advice and going to bed angry once in a while would be a better idea than, say, running straight to the courthouse and filing for another hasty divorce.

Then again, I've never been married, so what do I know? Married folks, is Pam doing it right? Or is her marriage as abnormal as it seems to me? Let me know in the comments.

Kenny Chesney to country music: Stop objectifying women

0

Hello! Country singers who look good shirtless >>

"In the last several years, a lot of the songs about women have been written in kind of an objectifying way," the country megastar told radio.com. "If you didn't wear cutoff jeans or a bikini top, or sit on a tailgate and drink, then you really weren't worthy, you didn't really add up."

A new track on Chesney's upcoming release, which drops Sept. 23, is for all the ladies who don't fit country music's backwards stereotypes.

"'Wild Child' is telling some girl out there that's got dreams, that's a free spirit, who's smart and interesting, that she has a chance," he said. "That she is worthy."

CMT Country Music Awards: Boys of country music — who'd you rather? >>

The song is an ode to the women Chesney said he finds most appealing: the ones who don't fit any stereotypes at all.

"All the women that have been in my life — in my family or that I chased, fell in love with and out of love with, my island friends, my hippie New England friends — they all had this idea of the 'wild child' in them, and I thought about all of them when I was writing the song," he said. "I think it's an important song, because it's saying that they don't have to be this one thing that's been sung about over and over again recently. And I'm proud of that, that we wrote a song that lifts up a woman in that way."

And that's not the only thing about Chesney's newest album that's breaking free of country music stereotypes.

Taylor Swift made more money than anyone else last year >>

"This album ain't about a party," he said. "It's about living with passion, about confidence, about walking into a room full of people and smiling and meaning it. Having the courage to hear this voice in your head and follow it, maybe for the first time in your life. It's about taking your life and living it to the fullest."

Sarah Palin and family involved in drunken brawl

0

Sarah Palin and her family are making the Real Housewives look innocent, according to multiple reports that they were involved in a feisty brawl over the weekend.

Sarah Palin's daughter wants to cut your hair >>

It all started at a house party for the Iron Dog snowmobile race, which Todd Palin has won four times, according to the Washington Post. Several Alaska bloggers were in attendance and say Track Palin, the son of Sarah and Todd Palin, spotted one of sister Willow's ex-boyfriends and decided to confront the guy.

Alaska political blogger, Amanda Coyne, gives the scoop from there, "There's words, and more. The owner of the house gets involved, and he probably wished he hadn't. At this point, he's up against nearly the whole Palin tribe: Palin women screaming. Palin men thumping their chests. Word is that Bristol has a particularly strong right hook, which she employed repeatedly.

"As people were leaving in a cab, Track was seen on the street, shirtless, flipping people off, with Sarah right behind him, and Todd somewhere in the foreground, tending to his bloody nose."

Networks pass on a second Sarah Palin reality show >>

For Palin's part in all of this, the former governor was allegedly exchanging such pleasantries as, "Do you know who I am?"

To which someone responded, "This isn't some damned hillbilly reality show!"

A trash-talking Sarah Palin biography >>

The Anchorage Police Department is confirming the fight, though is not verifying the Palins' role in the incident as of now. Communications director, Jennifer Castro, said in an email to the Huffington Post that a "verbal and physical altercation" occurred outside the residence and "some of the Palin family members were in attendance at the party." Castro further said that police believe alcohol played a part in the incident.

According to Castro, none of the parties wanted to press charges and no arrests were made at the time of the event, but the investigation is still ongoing.

I think we can all agree, if these reports are true, we definitely dodged a bullet with this family. (In case we didn't already know it.)

My husband thinks no one is good enough for our daughter

0
0

Our precious daughter is not undateable by any means. She's smart, funny and pretty, and the boys are lining up to take her out. So why doesn't she date? Because Dad says, "No."

Before he met the love of his life (me!), my husband was a serial dater. He loved showing the gals a good time. It's for this very reason that he feels so protective of our first-born kid. "I was a teenager once, and I know what those boys want from her."

"But we raised her to make good decisions — to be a good judge of character," I argue, to which my significant other responds, "Oh, I trust her. It's the boys I don't trust."

I try another tactic. "Don't we want her first dating experience to happen while she's here, under our roof... before she goes off to college?" Again, my stubborn hubby has an answer. "The boys in her school aren't good enough to date our daughter."

I'm between a rock and a hard place. Our daughter confides in me and talks to me about the boys she likes and those she'd love to get to know better. When it's time to ask Dad for permission, he wants to see Facebook profiles of the prospective date and know how he asked. ("Did he ask you out face-to-face or send a SnapChat?"). The kid could be on his way to West Point and it wouldn’t really make a difference in my husband's mind.

I'm really frustrated that we can't come to a reasonable agreement about this. I won't go behind her dad's back to give our daughter the OK because we really want to present a united front — but that's really tough to do when we're on opposite sides of the issue. Sadly, our daughter doesn't even ask anymore. She just politely turns down her suitor, rather than waste her time pleading his case to Dad.

So I beseech you, dear readers, to help a poor mom who's stuck in the middle. How can I help my husband see the light so our daughter doesn't feel like she's living in a convent? Any advice you can offer below is greatly appreciated.

Little girl super-bummed president is not Beyoncé

Jay Z's birthday tribute to Beyoncé is everything (VIDEO) >>

It seems that a sixth grader named Madison got a visit from the president when she was hoping for the queen. The Queen Bee, that is.

Madison may have been disappointed with President Obama's presence, but she sure wasn't shy. According to the New York Daily News, Madison let the POTUS know that when her teacher hinted there would be special guest at the 9/11 event, she thought it was going to be Beyoncé. "I really wanted it to be," said Madison. "But then I realized it was going to be you." Ouch!

President Obama took the situation in stride and played it cool. "Malia and Sasha would feel the same way," he said of his teenage daughters, smiling.

Michelle Obama quickly commiserated with Madison, saying, "I'd rather see Beyoncé."

Hopefully the sting of Madison's disappointment was hampered a little by Michelle Obama accompanying her husband. The First Lady is a bona fide celebrity in her own right lately. Earlier this year she made an appearance on the hit show Parks and Recreation, she's danced on Jimmy Fallon's talk show and she's the subject of pop girl group Fifth Harmony's song "BO$$." Most recently, she was featured in a hilarious Funny or Die video spoofing the movie Divergent with Chloë Grace Moretz and Teen Wolf's Tyler Posey.

We've kinda got to agree with Madison on this one. Meeting the president is pretty high up there on the bucket list, but hanging out with Beyoncé would be the ultimate.

But wait! Doesn't Madison know that our president covered rapper Iggy Azalea's song "Fancy" over the summer? That's got to give him at least a little bit of street cred.

Serena trailer makes us worry about Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper (VIDEO)

Set in 1929, Serena features Jennifer Lawrence as the outspoken title character, a woman with a strong business sense who's looking to make a career for herself when she marries George Pemberton (Bradley Cooper), a Depression-era timber tycoon.

Josh Hutcherson: JLaw hacking scandal is 'f***ing horrible' >>

The dialogue in the trailer, however, seems particularly hokey to us, given the level of movies these two stars have appeared in, like Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.

At one point in the trailer, Serena says to George, "I never thought I'd find you. I never thought I'd find anyone." Hard to believe, considering she's so dang gorgeous.

Elizabeth Banks shares the one piece of advice Hunger Games director gave her >>

Then George gets caught in a lie, presumably about the son he had with another woman, telling Serena, "I didn't want to frighten you." Serena replies, "I'm not that kind of woman." What kind of woman does she mean? The jealous type? The weak type? It's all a bit too dramatic and cryptic.

Then, as the two lie in a hospital bed, enduring what appears to be a blood transfusion, Serena tells George, "Everything you did, you did for us." To us, it sounds like she's making excuses for what must have been some immoral, if not illegal behavior.

The part of the story they leave out of the trailer is Serena's miscarriage and her implied inability to bear children. This was before fertility treatments, of course, and back then, such a fate could destroy a woman's life, particularly if she and her husband wanted to build a strong family business.

Two fantasy worlds collide with Natalie Dormer in Mockingjay >>

Set in North Carolina but shot in the Czech Republic back in 2012, we can't help but wonder why it took so long for the film to get released. We certainly don't have Oscar hopes for this film.

The good news? JLaw looks amazing. Of course we've seen her as a brunette when she plays Katniss in the Hunger Games movies, but this platinum blond finger-wave hairstyle has us girl-crushing like mad. She looks like she could have fit in perfectly with Jean Harlow or Marlene Dietrich in Hollywood's golden era. She has such great styling in this trailer, we totally want the look.

Serena opens Nov. 27.

5 Sisters pay tribute to their parents in adorable wedding photo shoot

No, these women didn't all get married on the same day... and it's definitely not a Sister Wives sort of situation. These five beautiful sisters got dressed up in their wedding finest for a special photo shoot to thank their parents for supporting them through their wedding celebrations and marriages.

Confession: Nick Jonas brings back feelings I thought I suppressed years ago

0
0

When I first heard of the JoBros, I was 19. I was well into my first year of college, and I thought I was hot shit (as every 19-year-old feels) — but only when it came to music. I was listening to emo indie rock, with Missy Elliott strategically interspersed into my playlist. And, I was very particular about what I uploaded onto my lime-green iPod mini.

So when a friend brought up the band Jonas Brothers and invited me to watch a charity softball game with her and a few other JoBros fanatics because she was "OMG, so obsessed and absolutely couldn't pass up the chance to watch Jonas Brothers," I scoffed. "Thanks, but no thanks. There's no way I would ever be seen at a Jonas Brothers event."

DirecTV tries to join Netflix, Hulu with new original series Kingdom: Can they compete? >>

A few days later, I found myself in the stands of one of the local stadiums. The screams were deafening. I couldn't hear what JohnJay and Rich had to say. I was sweating bullets because it was Phoenix, during a month that wasn't January, February or March. Needless to say, it was miserable, but I figured, "What the hell, just enjoy it. Go get a hot dog or something."

So we watched these young guys play the least exciting game of softball. I made a comment about Kevin Jonas' fabulously curly hair. I felt ashamed when I thought for just a second that Joe Jonas was "pretty cute, right?" As for Nick Jonas, he was too young. There was no way I would find a kid that young anything but "adorable."

Nick Jonas gets grown-up and sexy on new single "Chains" >>

I left deaf in one ear (not really, though I still haven't forgiven that 10-year-old sitting next to me). But that wasn't the end of my Jonas Brothers experience. No sirree.

The girls just had to play Jonas Brothers in the car — all the way home. We listened to "Burnin' Up." We listened to it about five more times. On the sixth go-round, I was hooked. I eyed the CD case sitting on floor and casually asked her if I could borrow the album "just to see if they have any other songs on there I could get into." I added the entire Jonas Brothers discography to my iTunes. I never returned the CD. I listened to it on my way to every class. It felt like such a shameful period; and after 12 days, I told myself: Mo more. Cut it off. You had your moment of weakness.

I was JoBros clean for seven years.

And then today happened.

I watched Nick Jonas' performance on Seth Meyers. I watched it twice. I then Googled Joe Jonas and whoa, has anyone seen him lately? Holy mack. And Kevin Jonas, keep those curls curly, my man.

Nick Jonas travels to Moscow to support Olivia Culpo >>

I may or may not spend the entire afternoon secretly YouTubing Jonas Brothers videos at a volume just loud enough for me to know what song I'm listening to. And hey, I may add a song or two into my recent Spotify playlist. But I think I'm stronger than that.

Anyway, BRB, need to finish scrolling through Nick Jonas' Instagram account.

Now watch Nick Jonas, and you'll understand why this happened:

Jay Z's birthday tribute to Beyoncé is everything (VIDEO) >>

While we are happy to see that there doesn't appear to be any trouble in paradise for Beyoncé and Jay Z (given their PDA at the MTV VMAs and Jay Z's birthday tribute to his wife), splitsville rumors can be distracting. And we have only just realized that Queen Bey could have been hinting at a new baby when she shared a very sexy snap on Instagram of herself wearing a shirt (and little else) with the number four on it and the word "Carter."

Beyonce Instagram

There has been much speculation as to when the "If I Were a Boy" hit maker and her husband Jay Z, real name Shawn Carter, will be giving their adorable little girl, Blue Ivy, a sibling, and the pregnancy rumors have already been rife this year. But we know Bey is the master of secrets, so perhaps her snap is her way of implying that there'll be a fourth member of the family coming soon?

Beyoncé's marriage isn't over, her momma says it's still perfect >>

Fresh reports suggest that there are some signs pointing to the fact that Bey may be preggo. Why? Apparently she's been covering up during her family trip to Corisca and she's been spotted rubbing her belly on more than one occasion, according to The Hollywood Gossip.

OK, so not to crush our hopes here, but Bey does have a strong connection to the number four because it's the date of her birthday (Sept. 4) and she's even named her fourth studio album 4, but in few months' time, maybe the number four will mean something entirely different for the family.

Coincidence? Oh, we hope not.

The sweet roasted peaches and figs are a match made in heaven with the sweet honey Kentucky bourbon. In fact, you may find yourself hoarding peaches and figs all fall long just so you can re-create this cocktail as you watch the leaves fall. Ahhh autumn...

Slow-roasted peach and fig bourbon cocktail recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 2 small peaches, sliced
  • 5 black figs
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 6 ounces Jim Beam honey bourbon
  • 4 ounces simple syrup
  • Ginger ale, for serving
  • Ice cubes

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Slice off the tops of the figs, and discard. Make an "X" incision on the tops of the figs (so they open in the center). Stick your finger into the centers to open up the figs a little more.
  2. Place 4 of the figs, open side up, in a 9 x 13-inch glass baking dish greased with nonstick cooking spray. Add the sliced peaches.
  3. Drizzle the melted butter over the figs and peaches, and sprinkle with brown sugar. Roast for about 10 to 12 minutes or until softened and the peaches are caramelized.
  4. Into a large mixer filled 1/3 of the way with ice, add the peaches, figs and juice from the pan. Using the back of a spoon, muddle the fruit so it's mostly smashed. Add in the simple syrup and bourbon. Shake to combine.
  5. Strain the mixture into your cocktail glasses (filled halfway with ice). Top each glass with a splash of ginger ale, sliced peaches and the last fig, sliced thinly.

Miley Cyrus has some shockingly good dating advice

Her moment of clarity is what is actually quite profound. Here are the lyrics, then I will break down what seems to be the meaning...

"I came in like a wrecking ball"

"all I wanted was to break your walls."

"all you ever did was wreck me"

"I just wanted you to let me in, and instead of using force, I guess I should have let you in."

Translation: The harder I tried to break you, the more you pushed back and fortified your resolve against my force. I exhausted myself by slamming up against an impenetrable wall.

You don't have to "break" down someone's walls. In fact, that's hard to do. People are hired to do that; they are called interrogators. If you want to be let in, you have to release your walls first. Use your strength on yourself, to reveal your vulnerability. And suddenly it's easy to get him to open up as he lets his walls come crumbling down.

Break his walls by pulling yours down first and being vulnerable. The harder you push, the more resistance you'll get. Nicely done, Miley. Truly and honestly.

Quirky kitten loves to clean floors

Quirky kitten loves to clean floors

Never before has cleaning up the hardwood floors of a house looked like quite such a cuddly task. This tiny and playful Bengal kitten loves roughhousing with its owner. This kitten's favorite activity? Being gently hurled across the slick wooden floors on its back... and then trotting back over for another ride.

The people who own this cat will officially never need to buy a feather duster or a Swiffer again. Not with this cat that adorably buffs and shines every surface it skids across. Granted, this Bengal is still young. This might just be a fun game it outgrows once it's older and more sullen — because, you know, it's a cat.

But think about the possibilities if this cat keeps on loving this game. Not only will its family have a great multipurpose cleaning product to use around the home, they could also use the cat to surprise and scare off burglars or unwanted door-to-door salesmen. That's always a plus.

Chris Brown has some interesting advice for Ray Rice

Chris Brown spoke to Sway Calloway at MTV News about dealing with the fallout.

Chris Brown finally speaks out about pre-VMAs shooting >>

He shared with the journalist, "I think it's all about the choices you make. With me, I deal with a lot of anger issues from my past — not knowing how to express myself verbally and, at the same time, not knowing how to cope with my emotions and deal with them and understand what they are."

In 2009, the "Forever" singer was sentenced to five years of probation after assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna. The one thing that Chris recommended to Ray was a good dose of therapy.

"I think help is great," said the Grammy winner. "I still talk to my therapist twice a week, and it helps me to... if I'm frustrated and I'm dealing with something, to vent and say what I'm going through so I can hear from an actual clinical person, 'This is how you should react,' or 'It's good to feel this way because feelings, emotions and energy are supposed to come and go. It's not supposed to stay there, you're not supposed to keep it inside, because it'll bottle up and you'll become a monster.'"

Chris has had a far-from-perfect record since his domestic violence against Rihanna. He has had numerous altercations, including a fistfight with Frank Ocean's crew over a parking spot and a convicted assault charge after a scrape outside a Washington, D.C., hotel.

Sorry, Chris Brown, Karreuche Tran's not ready for a baby >>

"For me, dealing with my anger issues and understanding myself and the life I've been through, where I'm headed and where I want to be has helped me focus on what's really important and not F up. For anybody who's going through that situation or anybody who's dealing with it — it's all about the choices. Every situation is different, but it's all about the choices you make and how you control your anger."

Chris isn't here to pass judgment, either, but he has walked a similar path as the beleaguered athlete.

He summed up, "To Ray, or anybody else — because I'm not better than the next man — I can just say I've been down that road. I deal with situations and I've made my mistakes too, but it's all about how you push forward and how you control yourself."

Revamp an IKEA serving tray with this easy how-to (VIDEO)

Supplies:

  • A tray — the IKEA tray is best for disassembling and reassembling
  • A design in mind
  • Primer
  • Paint
  • Spray paint

Directions:

1. Select your tray. There are a lot of different trays that will work for this project. Here is one from IKEA that we recommend.

2. Disassemble. Unscrew each screw so the wooden pieces come off. This makes it easier for you to decorate the tray without the ends in the way.

3. Trace design. Depending on your mood or personal preferences, you can trace the design of your choice onto the tray. This is where you get to be creative.

4. Prime. Add two coats of primer to your tray and wooden pieces. Allow each coat to fully dry. Zinsser oil-based primer can be found here and is a good choice for faster drying time.

5. Paint. Bring the design you created earlier to life. Use any color paint that strikes you; the brighter the color, the more the design will stand out.

6. Spray paint. Give the wood a nicer looking finish by spray painting each piece. Choose any color that matches your design. Allow your paint to fully dry.

7. Reassemble. Screw the wooden pieces back onto the tray and there you have it. A customized tray to use for whatever your heart desires.
