Woody Allen racist? He gives double-talk about not hiring black actors

$

Last year, Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine, a sort of modern take on the classic Tennessee Williams play, A Streetcar Named Desire, earned him a Best Screenplay Oscar nomination and sent actress Cate Blanchett home with the Best Actress award.

As the writer/director has been doing press for his latest flick, Magic in the Moonlight, starring Emma Stone, he's been asked some tough questions and, sadly, given some disappointing answers.

Allen — famous for ditching his wife, Mia Farrow, to marry his adopted daughter — sat down with the New York Observer. Reporter Roger Friedman brought up the fact that, during last year's Oscar race, some anonymous complaints were made, criticizing Allen for rarely hiring black actors. He went on to ask if Allen would consider hiring Viola Davis in his next movie and possibly add some diversity to his films.

"Not unless I write a story that requires it," he said. "You don't hire people based on race. You hire people based on who is correct for the part. The implication is that I'm deliberately not hiring black actors, which is stupid. I cast only what's right for the part. Race, friendship means nothing to me except who is right for the part."

Lena Dunham on Woody Allen: Look at evidence, not art >>

It's not surprising that the idiosyncratic and nebbish director doesn't often write scripts with black characters. Most writers simply write what they know and, if he doesn't know interesting black people, then we certainly don't want him to make up inauthentic characters just to add diversity. But something else he said in the interview made us think he's even more clueless than we thought.

Emma Stone's obsession with Colin Firth was too much for him >>

Allen admitted that he worries he hasn't influenced any other filmmakers as a director. Well, duh! To us, it seems pretty clear that new filmmakers want to break new ground, not tell stale Woody Allen-esque stories that don't include diverse characters. So, really, it's Allen's own fault for not broadening his own horizons by having the courage to create characters with skin that is a different color than his.

If there's ever been a sign that Woody Allen is all washed up, it has to be this.

Tyra Banks is ticked Victoria's Secret won't give her free stuff

Spilling the beans about her beef with the sexy lingerie brand during a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the 40-year-old stunner explained she's due free merchandise for as long as she's alive.

Catfight no more: Janice Dickinson and Tyra Banks end feud >>

"The president of Victoria's Secret promised me a lifetime supply of Victoria's Secret products, even after I decided to leave the company," Banks, who was one of the brand's original Angels, said. "But once I left, he only let me have it for a year. So I have a bone to pick."

When asked if she'd consider a runway reunion with fellow supermodels Heidi Klum and Gisele Bündchen, the "smize" star said only, "I have been asked to do a reunion many years ago, and I said no because I was trying to be taken seriously as a talk show host and as an executive producer and as a businesswoman."

She went on to say, "I don't know. I don't know if I would. Whenever I see them, I feel like we have a connection. We're like the OG original Angels. That was invented on us."

That wasn't exactly a no now, was it?

The future is all about sci-fi beauty, says Tyra Banks >>

Although we love a good freebie as much as the rest, it's pretty clear Banks is rolling in the bucks. In fact, this model maven is estimated by TheRichest to have a net worth of $90 million!

And not only is cycle 21 of America's Next Top Model set to premiere Aug. 18, but Banks is determined to see a Life-Size movie sequel happen.

"I don't think it'll be out until probably 2015," she told Digital Spy, "but it will be back… better than ever."

If you were Tyra Banks, would you bug Victoria's Secret for freebies?

Lady Gaga blames ex-manager for MIA "Do What U Want" video >>

The singer posted a selfie in an oxygen mask to her Instagram late Wednesday night, after a concert in the Mile High City. She captioned the photo, "Altitude Sickness is no Joke! #hitThatHospitalS*** #artRaveDenver many true ravers crowd tonight."

Lady Gaga hospitalized in Denver

Altitude sickness is obviously not unusual in Denver — the city's website has a whole page devoted to tips for dealing with the "thinner and dryer" air at a mile above sea level. There are several that Gaga may have failed to heed, like taking it easy on the alcohol and lightening up physical activity. Considering Gaga had just wrapped up a show for her artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball tour, it's probably a safe bet there was some physical activity happening prior to the star's hospitalization.

The selfie got Gaga plenty of love from her fans — almost 160,000 of them liked the photo and many took to the comments to leave Gaga a "get well" message.

Even when she's feeling under the weather, though, the "Applause" singer manages to keep her eyelash game totally on point. Seriously, not everyone can make an oxygen mask look that good, though this is no surprise coming from Gaga, who's managed to look hot in some seriously weird styles — everything from a machine gun bra to the now-infamous VMAs dress made out of raw meat, though she's been rocking a less out-there look since summer last year.

Her next concert, planned for Friday in Seattle, is still scheduled to go ahead as planned.

Kendra Wilkinson is "definitely" seeing divorce lawyers

Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett welcome baby girl >>

"She's definitely had conversations with divorce lawyers about everything from finances to custody," a source tells People Magazine. "It's just a matter of time."

But the mom of two isn't letting the imminent end of her marriage to Hank Baskett, a retired professional football player, get in the way of a girls' night out — or two.

For the second time this week, the former Playboy model was seen out with friends, this time dining at Aventine Hollywood before heading to a nearby lounge.

A friend of Wilkinson's says Robin Thicke and rapper, Too Short, stopped by to say hello while Wilkinson enjoyed her night out.

"Kendra had a couple of drinks... she was being social and dancing," the pal says. "It was a super fun night, but nothing too crazy."

Wilkinson and Baskett, who married in 2009, hit a major snag in July, when transsexual model, Ava Sabrina London, claimed Baskett paid her for sex while Wilkinson was pregnant with their second child.

Kendra Wilkinson joins the Mommalogues >>

"I met Hank Baskett probably around the 22nd or 23rd of April this year," London told the National Enquirer. "He contacted me through a video I had posted on YouTube and we exchanged information."

London passed a polygraph test after saying Baskett paid her $500 for sex, $2,000 to claim she never met him and $5,000 to agree never to speak publicly about their encounter.

Wilkinson was spotted out sans wedding ring in July, but People says the couple is still living together while they shoot their WE tv reality show, Kendra on Top. A source close to the family says "they're definitely not sleeping in the same room" and Wilkinson "keeps her distance from him."

How leaving my baby for the first time was like ripping off a Band-Aid

$

0

See, I had the baby who screamed for weeks. Good news: He is unyielding, tenacious, undeterred... all qualities I will treasure one day when I want him to get accepted to a good college or go pro as a left-handed pitcher. Bad news: I was about one breakdown away from being a character in a Virginia Woolf novel. When you are on week three of a six-week baby bender, all you can think about is "Calgon, take me away." I was ready for a little me time. Or, at least I thought I was.

When I was told our show (Awkward) was going on-location for a few days, I knew my moment had arrived. Usually, when a production goes on-location it's like summer camp for grown-ups... if summer camp was going on tour with the Rolling Stones circa 1965. For me, I just wanted to sleep and take a bubble bath without my newborn in the tub with me. This news of heading out of town for a few days was better than Christmas morning 1991 when I got a pink moped from Santa Claus. Then, as I came closer to my "much-anticipated" retreat, something strange happened... something unexpected. I began to freak the (insert expletive of your choice) out, people! Nightmares, panic attacks of a mom's worst fears, and moments of paralyzing dread became my daily norm. It crept up on me like an unwanted birthday age or IBS. Before my head had time to catch up to my emotional outbursts of sheer insanity, I found myself pulled over on the side of the road bawling my eyes out, unable to catch my breath. Then it hit me. I was suffering from separation anxiety... and I hadn't even left my 4-month-old baby yet. To make matters worse, I had no coping mechanism for the level of anxiety I was experiencing. But, like most things in my life, I stumbled my way through it. It wasn't pretty, but I lived to tell the tale. Here's how it went down.

Therapy

I downloaded, upchucked, cried out, and came one step closer to figuring it out. If you don't have a therapist, counselor or pastor in your life, a professional that you can talk to, then find one. They can arm you with coping mechanisms and resources. A professional is unbiased and your sessions are confidential. You can let it all hang out without fear of the judgment police.

Community outreach

Nothing beats the love and support of your nearest and dearest. Sometimes we are scared that we will be met with judgment and ridicule. I used to be terrified of not being perfect. Fact is, I am so far from being perfect that I am an expert in not being perfect. The moment I reached out to others, I received the greatest gift: a community of awesome women who have my back.

Caregivers

In many parts of the country, this is where aunts, uncles and grandparents become really helpful. Unfortunately, mine live in Georgia. Luckily, I have Mimi, the world's best caregiver. Referrals are an excellent way to find a great caregiver. I suggest bringing your caregiver in soon after the baby is born, even if it's just a few hours a week. That way, both baby and mama have time to acclimate to the caregiver.

The goodbye

A wise mother told me to make it quick and painless, as if you will see them in a few hours. I am many things, but sometimes wise is not one of them. I was sobbing for over 20 minutes when Mimi said, "I know how you feel, Nikki. I had to leave my kids to work in the U.S. so they could have a good life back in El Salvador. I haven't seen them in 13 years." Hi, let me introduce myself. My name is Nikki DeLoach, and I am the mayor of Foot-in-Mouth City. Like a big girl, I dried up my tears, kissed my baby, got in my car... and then proceeded to cry in the comfort of my own solitude.

Communication

Mimi sends me pictures and updates throughout the day. Just when I start to go to that dark, irrational, paranoid mom space, a picture of Hudson grinning from ear to ear pops up. I breathe a sigh of relief. Encourage your caregiver to do this for you. Also, Skype and FaceTime are a godsend.

Self-medication

If all else fails on your journey of separation anxiety, I highly recommend self-medicating. Find the nearest bar or bottle of wine and pop that cork, baby! You could probably use a drink anyway.

Self-preservation

Keep in mind that sometimes, time away makes you a better mom. You come back refreshed, revitalized, and ready to take on that middle-of-the-night awakening from your little one.

For all you moms out there who are strapped with an impending departure from your little one, my heart goes out. Whether it's going back to work full time or an overnight stay, whether your baby is 4 months old or 4 years, separation anxiety is real and distressing. Don't let anyone tell you differently. I hope this helps.

I wanted to write this blog for several reasons. If just one mom reads this and no longer feels alone on her own journey, then it was worth sharing mine. Two, I want to hear how other moms are dealing with mommyhood and issues like separation anxiety. So please let me hear from you. You are inspirational. You are humanity at its finest, and I am grateful that we can take this journey together.

Kate Upton says she won't pose nude because of the internet

Claiming that nude photos are really art, Upton said that in general people respond in a positive way when stars bare it all for the cameras. "For me those photos are art," Upton told Details magazine during an interview. However, the Sports Illustrated model doesn't feel nude photos of her would be seen in the way she'd want them to be.

"Your body is art, your body is beautiful," Upton went on. "But with social media and the internet and not-so-great blogs and the attention like that, I don't think that my pictures would be received in the way I'd want them to be received."

While she really appreciates "those photos" and believes women who have posed nude in magazines always look beautiful, in her case she says the internet has kept her from exposing herself in the nude.

Drop everything! Kate Upton has joined Instagram >>

While Upton may not be posing nude anytime soon, she is keeping busy doing other things. The blond beauty has recently starred in The Other Woman alongside big-name celebs Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann. Plus, she is also booking high-fashion photo shoots with magazines like ELLE UK.

Upton has been so busy she actually has to turn down sought-after offers because she just can't fit them into her packed schedule.

Model Kate Upton admits she's been cheated on before >>

"My career is moving at such a rapid pace," she continued in Details. "I want to hit all the top things. "I'm not worried about Shia," she recently told the New York Daily News. "I love my Shia. He's perfectly fine. I haven't talked to him in a couple of years, but I don't worry about him."

Yes, the withdrawal from the minute-by-minute updates on politics and gratuitous OPK (other people's kids) posts is enough to send people straight out of their minds, apparently.

In fact, there were so many 911 calls in the area to report the social media outage, that Sheriff's Sergeant Burton Brink of the Crescenta Valley station took to Twitter to tell people to knock it off.

"#Facebook is not a Law Enforcement issue, please don't call us about it being down, we don't know when FB will be back up!"

So, in preparation for the next regrettable, but inevitable, outage, we here at SheKnows have compiled a guide to the five stages of Facebook grief and separation anxiety as told through the modern video poetry of GIFs.

We hope this will help you to recognize your feelings and perhaps work through them in a more calm fashion the next time you lose access to your news feed. And you know, leave the 911 lines open for better stuff, like drunk guys who call to get the cops to give them a ride to the bar. Did you see that on Facebook? Oh, sorry. Read on.

Home decor trends that men just don't get

1. Chevron

chevron quilt

Chevron is all over our house — on our bed, hanging over the windows and even decorating our kitchen table. When the trend hit hard in 2012, my husband thought my "zigzag" obsession was cool. Two years later, he's starting to get over it. "Can't you just find some floral stuff like your mom has?" No, husband, chevron is the Laura Ashley floral of the '90s, which means this pretty comforter will be on our bed when we're 50 (Anthropologie, $28-$428). #boom

2. Shabby chic

shabby chic dresser

To my defense, I've always been a thrifter. I love finding funky bargains from estate sales and nearly faint over a good antique score, which my husband finds completely kosher. Although he's not a fan of adding another project to the list, what he really hates is when I buy an already-done shabby-chic dresser online for an astronomical amount (Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic, $2,100). "Couldn't you just paint an old dresser?" he asks. Yes, husband, only let's be honest, it would be you doing it for me. #wifewinsagain

3. Poufs

target pouf

My husband most certainly does not understand the notion of poufs. He believes they should be used for a college dorm-room coffee table or something to sit on when playing video games, which is impossible due to his man-length legs. "So, what are they used for?" he asks as we stroll through Target's latest pouf collection (Target, $70). Pretty decorative home decor, of course! #rollseyes

4. Ombre

ombre curtains

Recently, we redid my daughter's bedroom into a more fitting "big girl" space. Upon tossing design ideas around, I mentioned going ombre. "Like a man?" (We live in the Southwest, so he thought I was saying hombre.) No, honey, like the colors. Again, the husband didn't get it; he thought it was best to choose one color and go with it rather than try to "mix it up." Apparently, the husband doesn't understand cute when he sees it. Lucky for him, I do. And while I didn't win in the paint department, we do have a nice set of curtains hanging up to complete the look (Urban Outfitters, $49). #compromiseatitsfinest

5. Antlers

elkhead

Now this is one trend you think a man would be all about. However, this is not the case in my house. My husband is not a hunter, nor am I, so why would we want antlers in our home? Because they're ah-dorable, and we have a fireplace that's just begging for a pair to hang above the mantel, especially a gold-dipped pair like these (Etsy, $48). But no, this is a battle I have yet to win. Until he can hunt his own game (which is never going to happen), there will never be an elk head or a pair of antlers on our wall. #stilltryingtosneakthemin

The actress has wowed crowds with her amazing style during the promotional tour of the Disney movie — in which she plays the iconic black-winged villain — and now fans have a shot at owning a pair of shoes that she designed with French designer Louboutin especially for her Maleficent red carpet moment.

VIDEO: Maleficent cast talks meeting and fighting Angelina Jolie >>

The stunning black, white and gold shoes have been named Malangeli, and they have been designed with mesh panels and sculptured black heels inspired by Jolie's Disney character. And now they'll soon be released to the public.

However, you may be disappointed to know that as with most of these iconic red-soled shoes, they don't come cheap and you'll have to fork over $1,495 for a pair. Yikes!

Oh, hush! Angelina Jolie says celeb moms shouldn't complain >>

But to make you feel better, the shoes are a rather limited edition and there will only be 96 pairs released, E! News reports. In addition to the fact that you'll be able to own an almost one-of-a-kind pair of heels, the profits will be going to a good cause and will benefit SOS Children's Village, an organization that helps orphaned and abandoned children.

According to the Independent, a Louboutin spokesperson describes the limited-edition shoe design as "dangerous and altogether seductive" with "an illusion of magic."

Of his collaboration with the Hollywood star, the paper states that Louboutin said, "It is exciting to work with someone who has such a strong aesthetic and character. Getting to know Angelina through a fun collaboration has been one of my greatest pleasures!"

Judging a woman for public breastfeeding is just another symptom of rape culture

$
0
0

And as hard as it is to believe, there were actually people who accused this mother — who was simply feeding her baby and happily smiling over her hard-earned success — of being nothing more than yet another woman seeking attention for her body.

"Oh come on...," one of the comments reads. "She just wants attention."

"She Did have pre marital sex... and DID get pregnant... and DID flash her boobs in the middle of a graduation... and DID say she was trying to 'show people,'" claims another.

Ah, yes the classic argument that women's bodies exist solely for the judgment of others. Now where have I heard that again?

Oh, that's right — it's the dominant force in rape culture.

Not just about breastfeeding

In all of the public outcry over a single picture of a mom feeding her baby showing less breast than the opening scenes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, it's obvious that none of the arguments against public breastfeeding are actually about just breastfeeding. If the concern was solely about breastfeeding, we would be talking about the best latch or the most comfortable nursing position for Mom and Baby instead of whether a baby should be seen, or how much of a mom's breast is considered "decent" to be exposed.

Instead, the argument doesn't center around the central fact that a mother is feeding a baby — it is based on her "reasons" for feeding the baby. Is she doing it to put down other mothers? Is she one of those "militant" breastfeeders, intent on making a scene wherever she goes? Or is she just trying to land herself on the cover of Time magazine?

Heaven forbid a mother simply can have the right to feed her baby without judgment.

Indecent exposure

Now, I'm actually a mother who doesn't do a lot of so-called exposed public breastfeeding, simply because of the fact that, for the most part, when my babies feed, it is an "exposed" manner. They don't like blankets, I hate making them sweat under a cover and I find it awkward to sit out in public with my breast hanging out. It's my personal decision, but I would never find it weird or unnatural for a mother to feed her baby openly and in public, any more than I would find it weird or unnatural for a woman's breasts to show when she's at the beach. It's kind of part of the deal. (And also why I don't wear a lot of string bikinis, all stretch marks aside.)

But it's the issue of breastfeeding alone that seems to throw people in a tizzy. A young, beautiful woman on the beach can display her breasts as much as she wants, because she is displaying them for the "right" reasons — to show off her sensuality, of course — but a mom whose breasts show simply because she's feeding a baby?

Um, ew.

That's not sensual. If they're not pretty and on display for the sake of men or envy of other women, keep them hidden, please.

News flash: They're not yours to judge

So, here's the thing. We need to stop judging women on what we think they have the right to do with their bodies. Whether it's thinking that a mother is "asking for attention" if she breastfeeds her baby in public or thinking that a woman was "asking for it" when she is raped in a revealing party dress, we are propagating the belief that women must exist in bodies that exist solely for the judgment of other people.

Because it's not enough if a college girl puts on a top that she thinks is pretty — she must first consider how a university official will judge her character if she happens to be assaulted later that night. Revealing top? Too much to drink? The lines are blurry there, obviously.

Because it's not enough if an attractive women enjoys wearing makeup and getting dressed up for the night — it's not up to her to decide if she looks appropriate. It's for everyone else to decide if she's a slut with too much makeup.

Because it's not enough if a mother simply wants to feed her baby out in public without causing a stir — it's up to everyone else to decide if she's just trying to attract attention with her body, yet again.

I am sick and tired of the arguments and I don't want my daughters growing up in a world where everyone else gets to decide their merit, simply based on the degree of exposure of their breasts.

They could walk around naked for all I care and it still wouldn't give any man on the street, any group of fraternity brothers or any online troll the right to judge their bodies or deduce their intentions. It is not our job as women to dress for others, feed our babies for others or decide if the way we are walking is too seductive for others.

So call me crazy, but the next time you want to judge a mother for public breastfeeding or secretly wonder if that reported rape victim wasn't consensual after all, just remember:

Her body...

Is not yours to judge.

Is Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles coming to the big screen?

$
0
0

I first read Interview with the Vampire when I was way too young, probably sixth grade. I'm sure my parents had no idea what their little girl was up to. They were just happy to see me with a book in my hand. I read the book again as an adult, and well, wow, I really shouldn't have read that book when I was a kid.

The vampire attraction: Why are we so hot for the undead? >>

Needless to say, when the movie came out, I demanded to see it, even though I was only 12. I remember watching it in censorship mode: Mom would fast-forward through scenes she deemed "inappropriate." I eventually saw Interview in its entirety. I own it. When I moved in with my husband, I realized he owned it. Yes, we have two copies of Interview with the Vampire on DVD, OK?

When I heard they were making a Queen of the Damned film, I was freakin' pumped. Stuart Townsend was a perfect pick to play Lestat, and the imagery in the trailer looked fantastic. Then I saw the movie. The movie sucked. It sucked bad. It was nothing like anything Anne Rice had written. It was almost illegal to even say Queen of the Damned was based on Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. The only thing it had in common was the name Lestat.

Best vampire books: No, Twilight didn't make the cut >>

Now, they've announced that two powerhouse production companies own the rights to The Vampire Chronicles in their entirety, including the as yet unpublished eleventh book, Prince Lestat. I know our society is over-saturated with bloodsuckers. I know they've already made Interview with the Vampire (no word on whether they will remake it). I usually complain about Hollywood recycling the same ideas over and over, but for real, I'm excited about this.

I read every book in The Vampire Chronicles. I'm not the only one. The further you get into the series, the more you come to love Lestat. His character arc goes all the way from heaven to hell and back. He is a changed man, over and over. He's a guy you can spend some time with, as a book nerd and film enthusiast. Plus, in the right hands, these films could be gorgeous. (I am especially interested in an adaptation of Tale of the Body Thief, already penned by Rice's writer son, Christopher.)

Vampires vs. werewolves: Books battle >>

Producer Brian Grazer is the man behind the curtain. His production credits are all over the board, from the TV show 24 to the Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind. Word is he's already hired Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, developers of the monster flicks The Mummy and Van Helsing.

If all goes well, The Vampire Chronicles could be introduced to a new, younger audience who will hopefully see the films and then pick up the books. In regard to the films, I picture a Tim Burton ambiance with a smattering of Dangerous Liaisons; candles, lots of candles; an utter lack of CGI and of course, a stunning young actor, new on the scene, to sweep us off our feet as the vampire Lestat.

There's always the chance this could get totally screwed up. Here's hoping Universal finds the right people with the right vision. The film team had better be respectful fans of Anne Rice, or this is not going to work. Where do I volunteer?

Jennifer Aniston spills fiancé's violent hatred of Botox

It only takes a few clicks on Google to find thousands of pictures of the We're the Millers actress, and she's revealed that she's not worried about the good, the bad or the ugly pictures that have been taken by the paparazzi and ended up on the web.

Jennifer Aniston is completely smitten with Justin Theroux >>

"The truth is, you just go, 'If they get a picture, that picture comes and goes, so who cares?' Then you have 30 mean people who sit at their computers and spend their entire day picking apart and insulting celebrities about how ugly they are just so they can feel better — I guess — about themselves. I don't understand it," Aniston revealed to Yahoo Beauty Editor in Chief Bobbi Brown.

Aniston also revealed that while she's perfectly happy to age naturally, there is still a lot of pressure in Hollywood for stars to look ageless.

"There is also this pressure in Hollywood to be ageless," Aniston confessed. "I think what I have been witness to is seeing women trying to stay ageless with what they are doing to themselves. I am grateful to learn from their mistakes, because I am not injecting s*** into my face.

"I see them and my heart breaks. I think, 'Oh god, if you only know how much older you look.' They are trying to stop the clock and all you can see is an insecure person who won't let themselves just age," she continued. "I also have a fiancé who will put a gun to my head if I touch my face in any way."

At 45 years old, Aniston still looks stunning and extremely youthful, so she has no reason to worry about getting any professional help, but she's also learned to embrace her age.

"I also understand that age is kind of awesome," she shared. "I am fortunate enough to know women like Gloria Steinem, who I think is one of the most stunning women on the planet, and doesn't touch her face. Diane Keaton, Annette Bening, all of these fabulous, fearless women who are flawless, they embrace it! You know, to each their own, I don't judge it if you do it, but sometimes I wish I could beg the people I know, who I am very near and dear to, to not touch their face."

The Oscar-winning songstress isn't off to a bad start. She currently has close to 22,000 followers, but she's also following 13 accounts. Some of the famous names you might recognize include Lionel Richie, BFF Donna Karan and President Barack Obama. She's also hip to the younger crowd by adding Michael Bublé, John Legend and Josh Groban to that list.

Streisand even fell prey to the Instagram syndrome of photographing a meal. She decided to pick dessert for her second photo. On Friday, she shared a plateful of cupcakes adorned with colorful frosting roses.

It looks like she's got a good hang of how to post on Instagram, but the Guilt Trip star isn't a stranger to social media. She's very active on her Twitter account, which boasts over 327,000 followers. However, it's not clear whether she is running her account or if it is someone on her team. Many celebrities hand over the social media duties to their personal assistants.

We just can't wait for her first selfie.

Missing girl reunited with family

Missing girl reunited with family

I love happy stories where the unexpected happens, and this has to be one of the best I have ever read. The catastrophic Indian Ocean earthquake and resulting tsunami struck Indonesia and other nearby countries in 2004, and more than 227,000 people were reported dead.

In one family, the children were the unfortunate victims. Raudhatul Jannah, age 4, and her brother, Arif Pratama Rangkuti, age 7, were clinging to a plank of wood when the full force of the tsunami swept them both from their parents' grasp. Their mom and dad were grief-stricken and heartbroken, assuming both children had perished in the disaster.

The story has a beautiful twist, however. Unbeknownst to her mom and dad, after the the little girl was swept away, she came to rest on a remote island. A fisherman found her, rescued her and returned her to the mainland. Once there, his mother named her Wenni and took care of the girl for the next 10 years.

Fast forward a decade. Her uncle noticed a teenage girl who resembled his missing niece, and after asking around, he discovered that she had been found on Banyak Island after the tsunami. The puzzle pieces were soon connected and she was reunited with her family, who were overjoyed to be reconnected to their daughter.

I simply cannot imagine enduring the loss of my children in the way this family did, and having no idea that either of them would ever be recovered. To have completely given up hope and gone on with their lives, only to be told that one of their children did survive and was on her way home, had to be unendurably joyful.

The family now has hope that their son, who would be 17 years old, also survived the tsunami. While this is unfortunately unlikely, they plan to start searching on the island where their daughter was found. They report that if she survived, maybe he did as well.

I do admit that I wonder how her foster mother feels. While she's most likely happy that the girl is back with her family, she was a big part of her life for 10 years and this probably feels like a major loss to her. I hope that they do keep in contact, and I'm sure the girl's family is grateful she was cared for like a daughter during that time.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday, reporter Rob Marciano asked the reality star if she wanted to add to her young family.

It's "Kim Kardashian" no more; say hello to Mrs. West >>

She gave a frank answer, sharing, "I'm hoping so. You know, I kind of wish I was pregnant at the same time Kourtney is. She's, like, more than halfway in, so you know, we're trying."

Kim got married in May to rapper Kanye West in a European wedding that spanned France and Italy. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter North West, in June 2013. Currently, they are living with Kim's mother, Kris Jenner, but they finally bought a new home in which to raise their growing family.

With so many milestones in such a short period of time, it doesn't seem like anything would faze the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star right now.

She told ET that it would be "fun" for all of the Kardashian girls to be pregnant at once. She imagined, "There's a lot of craziness in the house, so why not add pregnancy hormones to the craziness? It would be like a partner in crime. Someone to know those cravings that you're really going through."

The TV personality has certainly proven this year that her family is important to her. She has curtailed some of her work schedule to spend time with Kanye and North. Her Instagram even showcases some sweet family moments.

Judge banned for life for leaking Charlize Theron's adoption

Charlize Theron wants Tia Mowry out of her SoulCycle class >>

According to Yahoo, Arkansas Circuit Court Judge Michael A. Maggio reportedly released confidential information about Theron's 2012 adoption and has now been banned for life from the bench. Maggio was apparently not even the judge in Theron’s case, but he worked in the same district.

The information Maggio released was personal, including Theron's son's skin color, and she was not happy. He released the info on a fan forum for Louisiana State University sports called tigerdroppings.com. Maggio used the username "geauxjudge" and talked about Theron's adoption in a pretty indecent way.

"I don't know if [this is the] right board but I have a friend who is the judge that did her adoption today. It was a single parent adoption. I offered to be the baby daddy," he said.

Theron, who most recently starred in Seth MacFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West, has yet to comment on Maggio's case but did talk about her son at a recent press junket. She said, "I want to do everything in the world to protect this innocent little boy. [He's], you know, going to have an awesome mom, but she has a sucky job that everyone wants to know about."

Charlize Theron's ring ignites Sean Penn engagement rumors >>

Theron's adoption was only one of several adoption cases that Maggio commented on, and the Judicial Discipline & Disability Commission reportedly issued six public sanctions against him, which led to the ban.

"It is with mixed emotions that I was faced with the decision of today," Maggio said in a prepared statement. "I am no quitter but I have always done my utmost best to attain and promote the highest ideals of the justice system. I accepted responsibility and apologized for the statements under an assumed pseudonym in a private sports blog that were attributed to me."

Celebrity real estate: Kim Kardashian, Miranda Kerr and Heidi Klum hit the housing market

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's French-country Hidden Hills purchase

Recently, Kim and Kanye made headlines when they decided to sell the home they purchased in Bel Air last year rather than move in after a hefty renovation. Probably freaking out the momager, the pair has officially purchased a home that is beyond move-in ready, perhaps as a small celebration of passing Kim's last marriage mile marker of 72 days. Admitting that neither knew exactly what North West would need in a home, the new piece of real estate should be move-in ready for the couple by the end of August. Previously owned by Lisa Presley, the mansion is meant to resemble that of a villa in France. Squash the rumors about a move across the seas, as this home sits on three acres in the hills of Calabasas, which is still fairly close to the other members of the close Kardashian clan. With 8,000 square feet filled with an oversize kitchen (with three islands — three!), a huge family room, eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, two in the master bedroom alone, we feel there is plenty of room for three.

Although this closet probably resides in the master bedroom, it's safe to assume that this beauty is big enough for only North's baby couture clothing.

Do you think all of Kim K.'s glam squad will fit in here? Probably not, but this bathroom is still absolutely divine.

Miranda Kerr's beach-front buy in Malibu

Miranda Kerr has decided to live her single-mom life in the beachy comforts of a seaside home purchased for $2.5 million. For a native of Australia, it makes total sense to choose to stay in a simple coastal getaway after splitting with Orlando Bloom and listing their Hollywood home last year. Not large in size, the three-bedroom home offers up enough amenities to live up to the large price tag; the amenities include an easy walk to the beach, an attached gym and pool house, and a brick courtyard perfect for little Flynn to roam in.

And although Flynn may be too young to enjoy the hot tub, we're sure his mama will. If not, she's always got the ocean to stare at.

The skylights in the second bath are sure to be the highlight of little Flynn's bedtime routine. In fact, Mom Miranda may even steal a soak or two in here.

Heidi Klum sells heavenly McMansion for $24 million

Moving along to another divorcee: Heidi Klum has officially closed on her extremely oversize estate she once owned with ex-husband Seal. Like Kimye's purchase, this home was bought by Klum due to the resemblance of the south of France. Renovated to fit the model's unique and lavish style, the 12,300-square-foot home became an admitted piece of perfection, with Klum even going as far as referring to it as heaven. Why the German-born celebrity would admit this and then sell, we're unsure, but whoever bought this home is one rich and very lucky person.

It's hard to believe that Klum got any work done for Project Runway when staring off into the Hollywood Hills in this ridiculously lavish office.

No, this isn't a resort you're looking at, it's Heidi's old backyard. If this were my home, I don't think I'd ever leave. So why did Heidi sell it? We'll just chalk it up as another unsolved mystery in the vast world of celebrities.

Celeb bump day: Rachel Bilson, Christina Ricci, Stacy Keibler, Ginnifer Goodwin >>

It was only a few months ago that Ricci confirmed her pregnancy after being spotted out with a very obvious baby bump. According to Us Weekly, the new parents are excited to welcome their baby boy.

"They are thrilled and ready for a change of pace," a friend of the couple told the magazine.

Ricci and Heerdegen were married in October 2013, two years after meeting on the set of ABC series Pan Am.

"I love so many things about him," Ricci said about her husband-to-be five months before being married. "He's my favorite person on Earth."

The couple said from the beginning that they were hoping for kids. Ricci shared, "I can't wait to have our own little world replete with small beings!"

Heerdegen has recently worked on the sets of some big movies, including Captain Phillips and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. He is currently working as a crew member on both Elementary and Birdman.

Although Ricci may be best known for her child roles in movies like The Addams Family, Mermaids, Now and Then and Casper, she has made quite a name for herself as an adult as well. She has at least four projects currently in production, including Mothers Day with Susan Sarandon, Laura Dern, Andie MacDowell and Sharon Stone. The movie will be very fitting for Ricci, who will celebrate her first Mother's Day next year.
