Let's finish what Mila Kunis started: More phrases guys should stop saying

Mila Kunis

The bit included a backup chorus of pregnant women and the delightful cliché of them all eating ice cream out of the gallon with a spoon. It was lighthearted and great and, of course, the internet has already given us someone's overly-serious retort. But I'm not here to take part in that debate. Instead, I want to share a few of the other things I found myself wishing dudes would stop saying.

Essentially, we're finishing what Mila started.

1. "Bros before hos"

This one is pretty obvious. One, there's no need to remind anyone of this pecking order as it is Neanderthal to begin with. Two: "Hos?" Really? Also included in this list are the following: bro out, bro down, brotime, broham, brotally, bro tell it on the mountain, Broseph, BrOMG.

2. "Calm down!"

Let's put this in the same camp as "Heads up!" and "Look out!" and you can see how well this turns out, guys. In case that wasn't clear: These all result in the opposite of the intended response.

3. "You look tired"

A guy said this to me once, and I said, "You know that when you say that to a woman, she just hears it as 'You look like crap.'" He just sort of guiltily shrugged. Dudes, we all know what this one means. Or even if you don't realize that's what you're thinking, it's still what you're saying. Unless maybe it's followed by, "Can I get you a glass of wine/back massage?" you might as well skip it altogether.

4. "Amazeballs" or "awesomesauce"

These two are on their way out already, but I want to bring them up just to be sure. Ya know, double check that the campfire is out before you go to sleep. Sure, this is a unisex offense, but the words amazing and awesome are absolutely sufficient on their own. No need to add sauce or balls to heighten the experience. In fact, adding balls to any word should probably be a rule. P.S. Can we all send this cease and desist memo to YOLO while we're at it?

5. Movie quotes

I may be wrong to speak for all women on this, but it's probably a safe rule of thumb to save the obscure (or obvious, for that matter) movie quotes for your guy friends. Here's what happens when you throw out movie quotes in normal conversation:

If I get it, then I have to either add onto it, name the movie or do a forced "ha ha ha," usually interrupting the flow of whatever it was we were talking about beforehand. More likely, the quote will escape me, but I'll know you're quoting something so my choice is to pretend to get it and force a laugh, or ask where it's from which again derails the conversation and leaves us nowhere. It's better to just use your own words strung together of your own original choosing like the rest of us.

Kim who?

Kim Kardashian may be famous for showing her body in a certain sex tape, but little sister Kendall Jenner is the one getting all of the attention these days. The 18-year-old Marc Jacobs muse showed up to her co-hosting gig at the 2014 Much Music Video Awards wearing a double-slitted Fausto Puglisi gown that showed off her enviable legs — and plenty of hip bone.

Jenner made mouths drop with the look that didn't allow for any sort of underwear beneath the dress.

"[W]hy do one slit when you can do TWO?" she captioned on an Instagram shot of the look.

The slits might've been a bit scandalous, but the design of the gown looked more couture than trashy with a high neckline, sleeves and intricate gold detailing down the bodice and skirt. The long slits also showed off the gorgeous purple inside lining of the dress.

2014 Much Music Video Awards

The teen model has certainly amped up her fashion profile in recent months with her nipple-baring runway stint for Jacobs during NYFW in February and a recent sideboob-baring appearance at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards.

Tell us: Did Kendall Jenner go too far with her double-slit gown?

Harrison Ford is laid up for eight weeks from his Star Wars: Episode VII injuries last week. That news is much worse than originally reported by Disney after the actor was hit by the door of the Millennium Falcon, the spacecraft piloted by his character, Han Solo.

This will affect the movie's shooting timeline, but according to The Mirror, they are working it out.

Harrison Ford sustains ankle injury on Star Wars set >>

A source told the U.K. publication, "The initial day or two after the accident it was hard to move things around but now we have had more time; we can juggle things, bring some scenes forward and push others back. There are lots of other actors in the movie so it is not a disaster. We are still confident the film can stay on schedule."

It's possible that the Indiana Jones star would be off the set for up to "six to eight weeks." It is important for Disney to keep the movie on track and on schedule because any delays could cost the studio hundreds of thousands of dollars a day.

Ford's son, Ben Ford, also revealed to Access Hollywood that surgery might be required to help repair his ankle. The star might need a plate and screws.

Ford's wife, Calista Flockhart, is reportedly on her way to London to be by her husband's side while he recovers.

A studio spokesperson said on Monday that they were "hoping to announce some good news soon."

Miss USA Nia Sanchez can't name own state's capital

Nia Sanchez, who was Miss Nevada before being crowned Miss USA last week, was not able to name the capital of her supposed state during a quiz while on a radio show. Her blunder further fueled rumors that she's not a resident of the Silver State.

Miss Nevada crowned Miss USA, can totally kick your butt >>

While on The Todd Show Monday morning, Sanchez participated in a quiz where she was asked what the capital of Nevada was, and she surprisingly was not able to answer. Giving way to a very awkward moment, Sanchez blanked out and couldn't name Carson City as Nevada's capital.

"Oh, um, ahhhh, oh my gosh," she said, struggling to come up with the correct city. And, when the host supplied the stunning brunette with the name, she was quick to cover for herself.

Second pageant queen says Miss USA is rigged >>

"Thank you, I was going to say that! I was like, the one DJ host on MTV, back in the day, his name, that's how I always remembered it." Of course, she was referring to Carson Daly, the old-time music television host.

Sanchez was accused of faking her Nevada residency to compete in the Miss USA pageant. She had competed for the crown of Miss California three times but failed to win. She said she did not compete in the 2013 Miss Nevada pageant because she had only been living there for six months at the time.

"I wanted to go into competition properly, so I didn't compete last year," Sanchez told Fox News. "I didn't want people to have anything to say. I did it right... I waited over a year to compete when I felt I was ready."

POLL: Should Latin pop band Camila have played Miss USA? >>

A rep for the Miss Universe Organization also chimed in on the residency rumors and spoke in defense of Sanchez. "She met her requirements to compete. Nia is a great person and we know she'll be a great titleholder," the rep told E! News.

Perhaps taking some time to learn the state capital and other geography of her new Nevada "home state" would further help her along in becoming an even better titleholder. Just saying.

Close to a million Ryan Gosling fans were fooled by a Father's Day Facebook post purporting to tell the sad tale of how the actor tried and failed to adopt a dead friend's baby. Tragic yes, and also categorically untrue.

The photo and explanation, posted on a fake Gosling page written to sound like it's the star himself talking, shows the hunky actor cuddling up with an adorable baby and tells a story of how he planned to raise the child after his friend died until the biological father stepped in.

Mick Jagger met new gal pal before L'Wren Scott's suicide

Mick Jagger has a new girlfriend and it looks like it's a bit more complicated than the rocker just being on the rebound after losing longtime love L'Wren Scott to suicide. According to The New York Daily News, the Rolling Stones singer met ballet dancer Melanie Hamrick backstage in Tokyo in late February, just two weeks before the fashion designer's death.

The 43-year age difference doesn't seem to matter to Jagger, but it bugs Scott's sibling, Jan Shane. She's offended by the relationship.

Mick Jagger isn't just a grandfather, he's a great-grandfather >>

Shane told The Mirror, "The more I think about it, the angrier it makes me. My sister deserves more respect. It hasn't even been three months since she died. I now believe that he was a bigger part of her troubles than we knew about."

The new couple was spotted in Zurich, Switzerland, on June 1 canoodling on a hotel balcony.

Scott's sister continued, "It doesn't surprise me at all. I'm just really glad that L'Wren doesn't have to put up with him anymore. My sister deserved so much more than that. It's a terrible thing for Mick to have done. It's sad. His life goes on as if nothing happened. He's still out with women, but a huge part of our family is missing. She had accomplished so much without him. She was amazing in so many people's eyes. He just needs to quit dragging her name through his crap!"

Even though they met in the winter, a Jagger source told the U.K. publication that "friendship was not consummated" until their recent Zurich meeting.

The "Gimme Shelter" singer has clearly moved on, but Scott's family is still hurting.

Colorful shoes on a stool

1. The toe hold

Who knew that adding a few regular boards to a wall could make all the difference in the world? This DIY shoe rack requires only three supplies — boards, brackets and screws. It doesn't take up much room, looks great and you can get as creative as you'd like. Go wild.

2. The hanging solution

Photo credit: oh so pretty the diairies

Why have we never thought of this? Instead of piling your shoes on the ground, use hangers to suspend them from your wall. You save a whole lot of space, and all you need are some wire hangers, a few hooks and a bit of yarn. Hanging shoes. Genius.

3. The shipping pallet

A clean shipping pallet is hard to find — you have to locate one without termites, mold or chemical treatments. However, if you manage this task, you basically have this brilliant shoe organizer ready to go. Paint or stain the pallet as you will, stick those shoes on in and boom. You have a Pinterest-ready closet.

4. The colorful crates

Put your old wine crates to good use with this inventive DIY project. Simply paint your crates the color of your choice, suspend them from your walls and store your shoes — in them, on them, around them. Whatever you decide will be fun and clutter-free.

5. The modern look

This sleek, modern shoe rack looks like something Frank Lloyd Wright would have built for one of his organic homes. It's just so natural. Sebastian Goldschmidtböing used abachi wood to create this genius organizer, and we love everything about it.

6. The royal way

This fancy-pants shoe rack is actually just a spray-painted picture frame attached to the wall with double-sided tape. We would never know, though, because the crown molding looks fantastic and expensive and way more complicated than that. What a way to display your heels.

Teen with rare genetic disorder competes in Special Olympics

Whitney and Sharon Lackey | Sheknows.com

Whitney and her family live in Lebanon, Tennessee. Because of TSC, Whitney has non-cancerous tumors in her brain, kidneys and eye, and developmental delays. No matter. She represents Team Tennessee at the 2014 Special Olympics USA in the bocce event, competing June 16 through 18. Her mom, Sharon, has her own goal in mind — raise awareness about TSC and the need for more education and research.

"When we received the diagnosis in 1997, we were absolutely devastated," Sharon shares. "We thought we were going to live a life of pain and misery, but as it turns out we have lived a life of abundant blessings.

"I want other parents to know that despite TSC your child can live a very happy and successful life and you can never imagine how much joy they will bring you and everyone that knows them."

Whitney Lackey | Sheknows.com

Patients often first in family to get TSC

Early diagnosis is key, says Dr. John Bissler, director of the Tuberous Sclerosis Center of Excellence at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, UT Le Bonheur Pediatric Specialists, LCH. He specializes in pediatric nephrology and tuberous sclerosis complex.

"Tuberous sclerosis complex is a genetic disease that affects how cells control their growth," he explains. "Although the disease is genetic, most patients get the disease even though their parents do not have the disease. They are the first ones in their family to get it. [TSC] can cause disease by affecting how organs develop, or even if they develop normally they can later develop tumors."

Path of positivity

Whitney's journey from a diagnosis at 2 months to Special Olympics athlete at 17 hasn't been easy, Sharon shares, but her daughter's outlook has never wavered.

"I am inspired by Whitney every day," her mom says. "She gets out of bed with a smile on her face and it stays there until she goes to bed at night. She is the most positive person I have ever met… and she believes she can do anything. She is a real superhero in my eyes."

Community needs experts, funding and long-term care

Because TSC is uncommon, diagnosis can be difficult. But once diagnosis is made, coordinated and expert care is vital, Dr. Bissler says. "What is needed most is a few very large centers [that provide] very experienced specialists in birth-to-old age care," he explains.

Dr. Bissler points to three immediate needs in the TSC community — expert care, financial help for families and expert long-term care as children become adults.

"While there may be insurance coverage, travel, co-payments and other costs can add unbelievable stress to the family," Dr. Bissler explains. "The needs of a child can limit a parent from working, further exacerbating the financial pressure. The stress of having a sick child and not enough money can make families draw together, but more often families can succumb to such stress, further hurting each family member."

Promising research

A study published in in 2008 in the New England Journal of Medicine offered hope, pointing to a specific drug that could treat the kidney and lung disease, Dr. Bissler says. "Observations from this study led to additional work that demonstrated that the same class of drugs could treat the brain tumors associated with TSC," he adds.

Olympics today, diploma and job tomorrow

The Lackeys stay focused on Whitney's short- and long-term goals. The Special Olympics are on the immediate horizon, and the family is chronicling Whitney's journey on Tumblr.

But after the Olympics? Whitney dreams of graduating from high school and getting a job, her mom says.

"She has always loved being given a job to do," Sharon shares. "She has always been a people pleaser and it makes her happy to do something for someone else. There is no doubt in my mind that she will be able to get a job someday."

Can this 85lb dog really be part miniature poodle?

Echo is a mutt. A big one. She barks like a shepherd and talks like a hound, and if I had to name a special talent of hers, it would be that when she jumps up to greet a guy, she always manages to land precisely on his most-sensitive appendage.

A few weeks ago, I managed to get my hands on the Wisdom Panel 2.0, which is a test that is supposed to tell me what Echo actually is. I swabbed the inside of her cheek and sent her DNA sample off. I didn’t think I’d care that much one way or another, but I found myself checking my email for the results. After about three weeks, I got the email.

Me? I'm part shocked.

And Echo? She's part Miniature Poodle.

Can this 85lb dog really be part miniature poodle?

Shepherd + Mastiff + Miniature Poodle = Echo?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t see the resemblance. According to her chart, she has ancestry with a German Shepherd, Mastiff and Miniature Poodle, along with other mixed breeds that couldn't be determined.

dog ancestry

I was so skeptical that I went straight to Google to figure out if these genetic tests are the real deal. Surprisingly, the tests do a pretty good job, with the Wisdom Panel 2.0 coming in with a 90 percent accuracy rate. According to VIN News Service, the tests don't use genes at all but rather "repeating sequences of DNA known as microsatellites," which are extremely similar in some cases (like Mastiffs and Chihuahuas) but completely unique in others, which is how they can begin to separate a dog's ancestry. So, they're not looking for physical markers like snub noses or short legs, nor personality markers like aggression or docility, but strictly at the ancestral stuff that shows up in DNA.

As for my dog, when people ask me "What IS she?" I'll probably stick to my go-to "She's just a big mutt" and leave the Miniature Poodle talk only to those who won't judge her.

Malia Obama has a new job, and it's an important one. The first daughter was spotted last week working as a production assistant on Halle Berry's new show Extant, according to The Wrap.

Hollywood moms who've taken a hands-on approach to parenting >>

Malia will be turning 16 on July 4, and it looks like she is already considering her career options — and it may not be in politics.

"She helped with computer shop alignments and the director also let her slate a take," a source told The Wrap.

Extant is a sci-fi thriller, bringing Halle Berry back to television. The show follows an astronaut who returns back home after a year in space alone to find herself pregnant. She attempts to deal with the news while reconnecting with her husband and son, and figuring out how all of it will alter the course of humans.

The source said Malia was excited for the role, and said, "My first time. This is a big deal."

Sasha and Malia Obama: Fashion forward at the inauguration >>

Neither CBS nor First Lady Michelle Obama has responded to requests for comment. Malia Obama attends the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., an exclusive private school, but is now out for the summer. She was spotted with her parents on Friday, June 13, in Rancho Mirage, California. President Obama was in the area because he delivered the commencement address at UC Irvine on Saturday, June 14.

It's not clear if Malia's role was only for a few days while she was in town, or if she would be staying in California longer than that.

Halle Berry's new show is only part of her new role with CBS. She and her producing partner have also signed a production deal with the network.

5 Flag-inspired treats for 4th of July

Food that looks like a flag

I love celebrating the Fourth of July. It's great to feel united to the country as we celebrate our great nation. I enjoy the fireworks, BBQs, family time and, of course, the food. I love decorating food for holidays, and the Fourth of July is the perfect opportunity to make desserts look like flags sporting the red, white, and blue colors.

These desserts are simple to make and the best way to celebrate. And if you have children, then they will love getting in on the fun of creating these delicious treats. I know my nieces and nephews had a blast making (and eating) the ice pops.

1. Multicolored flag ice pops recipe

Multi-colored flag popsicles

These ice pops are perfect for a warm day and sure to help cool you down. They're made to look like the flag from dying the mixture and then alternating the colors in the ice pop mold.

Yields 12

Ingredients:

  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (8 ounce) container Cool Whip, completely thawed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  • Ice pop molds

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Slowly add in the sweetened condensed milk, and beat until smooth and creamy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  2. Gently fold in the completely thawed Cool Whip.

  4. Alternating the colors, pour the mixtures into the ice pop molds.
  5. Freeze for at least 8 hours but preferably overnight.
  6. When ready to eat, run the ice pop mold under warm water for about 15 seconds, remove the ice pops, and enjoy.

5. Patriotic poke cake recipe

Patriotic poke cake

This patriotic poke cake was one of my favorite desserts to make. I brought it to a party, and it was one of the first desserts gone. Not only are the colors fun and interesting, but it tastes amazing. The Jell-O really heightens the flavor and makes the cake extremely moist.

People kept asking me how I got the cake so moist and made it with all the fun colors. It was definitely a hit, and tons of people wanted the recipe. The recipe is super simple and takes very little prep time. Is there a downside? Only waiting for the cake to be done chilling.

Serves 18-20

Ingredients:

  • 1 package white or yellow cake mix plus the ingredients called for
  • 1 (3 ounce) package strawberry Jell-O mix, dry
  • 1 (3 ounce) package Berry Blue Jell-O mix, dry
  • 2 cups water, divided
  • 1 (8 ounce) container whipped topping, completely thawed
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans, and set them aside.
  2. Prepare the cake mix according to the package directions, and divide the batter equally into the cake pans. Bake according to the package directions.
  3. Remove the cakes from the oven, allow them to cool, and then remove them from pans. Wash and dry the pans, and then place the cakes back into them. Using the end of a butter knife, poke holes about 1/2 inch apart throughout the cakes.
  4. Boil 2 cups of water. Separate the Jell-O mixes into 2 bowls.
  5. Pour 1 cup of boiling water into the strawberry (red) Jell-O mix and the other cup into the Berry Blue Jell-O mix. Stir until completely dissolved.
  6. Pour the red mixture over 1 cake and the blue over the other cake.
  7. Place the cakes in the fridge for at least 3 hours.
  8. Remove the cakes from the pans by dipping the bottoms of the pans in warm water for about 15 seconds. Place the blue cake onto a cake plate, and frost it with the whipped topping. Place the red cake on top of the blue cake, and then frost the whole 2-layer cake with the whipped topping.
  9. Refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
  10. If desired, add sprinkles to the top of the cake.

Let's face it: Most of us don't need a specific reason to drink. Mondays, hump days, sporting events of any sort, good and bad days — they all seem to be reason to throw back. But for something as extended and time-honored as the World Cup, perhaps it's best if we give you some rules for all your drinking. Ready?

10 Reasons Game of Thrones Season 5 may suck

Game of Thrones Season 5 may be lame

Game of Thrones has made it clear that it isn't strictly following the books. In fact, it's already started jumping around a bit. While the TV series has taken some creative liberties, the overall story structure has remained the same. Because of this, we're hesitant to enter into Season 5, which we assume will pick up with the fourth book, A Feast for Crows.

It's widely agreed that A Feast for Crows is more of a downer in the series for multiple reasons, which we outline below. Of course, the fifth book brings it back in full force, so fear not, Game of Thrones fans. But there is a very real possibility the next season in the show will be kind of rough compared to the awesomeness of Season 4.

Need more Joffrey moments? How about some fake ones from these spoofs? >>

WARNING: While this article doesn't go into the gritty detail about the events in Book 4, it does contain some spoilers about what's to come if the show follows the novels. Do not read unless you want to know what's ahead on Game of Thrones.

1. Not chronological

The thing about the fourth and fifth books, like a lot of the Song of Ice and Fire series, is that they aren't chronological. They're more character- and location-focused. So, while you see events unfold for certain characters, other characters are left out completely. We're not quite sure how the show is going to handle this decision by George R. R. Martin, since the Game of Thrones series is generally chronological. We're assuming Season 5 will be the same.

2. Not as much action

Forget giant battles at The Wall and huge sieges at King's Landing. The stuff with Brienne gets pretty intense, but otherwise, the battles kind of die down in the fourth book.

Gasp-worthy Game of Thrones Season 4 spoilers from the books >>

3. Lots of new faces

Doran Martell, Arys Oakheart and Arianne Martell all enter the scene with Cersei's daughter Myrcella Baratheon in their care. It isn't until the end of the book that we really feel invested in their presence in the series, so we're not sure how the show is going to incorporate them when the other characters are already so beloved.

4. No more Joffrey hating

He was the king we all loved to hate. And, sure, watching him finally get what he deserved was well worth the wait. But admit it: You kind of miss him now. All those incredible memes floating around the internet just aren't as satisfying as experiencing the actions that spur the online conversations each week during the show.

5. The disappearance of Tyrion

Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) is smuggled out of King's Landing and not heard from in the fourth book. We don't have any chapters from him for the first time in the series, and the heavy cloud of what has happened to him is a black spot over A Feast for Crows.

6. Arya gets mystic

Arya starts an independent quest of her own that takes her to an unexpected place. She is removed from the action of the outside world and is forced to focus inward in the fourth book. It's good growth for her character, but not the most exciting sequence of events in the world of Westeros.

15 Best moments from the 15-minute Game of Thrones trailer >>

7. Lots of Cersei being Cersei

Now that Tywin is dead, Cersei (Lena Headey) is living it up, exercising her rights over King's Landing and, frankly, not doing a very good job of it all. Even Jaime resents her.

8. No Dany

Like, literally. No Dany. Our favorite heroine is off building her empire, and we see none of it. Of course, the fifth book is called A Dance With Dragons, so let's assume Martin makes it up to us. But life is rough without Daenerys.

9. Rise of the Greyjoys

There is just something so annoying about the Greyjoys. They're those people who are so set in their ways, they're blind to the reality of everything around them. It's infuriating. And we have to read through their character chapters front and center in the fourth book. If only characters could actually hear you when you yell at the pages.

10. Relationships die

Thanks to all the deaths in the Season 4 finale, a lot of the relationships we loved watching week after week are now gone for good. Take Arya and the Hound, for example. Or Tyrion and Shae. Tywin is no longer around to stand in Cersei's way, and Ygritte isn't out there to tempt Jon Snow. Change is scary.

How do you think the show will handle the fourth book? Do you think the series can pull it off?

Some oh-so-good-for-you chia powder products are being recalled.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned about an outbreak of salmonella infections associated with products that include chia powder. Chia powder is made from small chia seeds, and is commonly added to health foods like smoothies. You can buy chia powder everywhere from online to local grocery stores and natural food stores.

Multiple recalls of different brands of chia powder and chia seeds have been issued by companies in the U.S. and Canada. As of June 9, 21 illnesses were reported in 12 states and similar cases were reported in Canada. Two people have been hospitalized.

Which products are potentially tainted?

As of now, the list includes the following:

  • Navitas Naturals Organic Sprouted Chia Powder
  • Navitas Naturals Omega Blend Sprouted Smoothie Mix
  • Williams-Sonoma Omega 3 Smoothie Mixer
  • Green Smoothie Girl Sprouted Ground TriOmega Superfood (silver pouch)
  • Green Smoothie Girl Sprouted Ground TriOmega Superfood (gold pouch)
  • Organic Traditions Sprouted Chia Seed Powder
  • Organic Traditions Sprouted Chia and Flax Seed Powder

Along with tainted products, be on the lookout for salmonella symptoms. It causes diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. Most people recover within four to seven days without needing treatment, but children, older adults and those with weakened immune systems could have severe illness as a result of the infection.

According to Dr. Laura Gieraltowski, a CDC epidemiologist, this is the first time chia seeds have been identified as a food that can transmit salmonella.

Stay updated on the chia powder outbreak at the CDC’s website.

Kendall Jenner has done the near-impossible, giving photographers at the 2014 MuchMusic Video Awards a bare-hip shot while wearing a floor-length gown. Slits are in, my friends, if this recently liberated star's style is any indication of the direction trends are about to go.

Big baby! Kendall Jenner says Mom cried when she left home >>

Leading many to believe that she left her unmentionables at home, the 18-year-old stunner walked the red carpet on Sunday alongside sister Kylie Jenner, daring a mishap to take place.

Strutting with her long gams visible thanks to two toe-to-lower-abdomen slits, Kendall somehow made it through the press line with her dignity intact.

Jenner sisters' book debut is better than you're expecting >>

Taking to Instagram to give her followers a peek at her blog-worthy dress, the young model who is willing to go bare shared this post and the caption "Why do one slit when you can do TWO!?"

Thus far, social media reaction to Jenner's hip dress seems mixed. One person gushed that the star "looked amazing," while another added, "I still don't get the fuss about @KendallJenner's dress. They're just her hipbones, and she looked gorgeous. Why is this even a thing?"

However, another jabbed, "Actually kind of like Kendal Jenner's 'hip dress'... Though I still don't know what she's 'famous' for," while one more person ranted, "Hollywood needs to put their clothes on and start being better role models than they have!!!!!"

Love it, or too much: Are you a fan of Kendall Jenner's racy look?

VIDEO: NBA players get their feelings hurt by mean tweets

Now that basketball season is officially over and the San Antonio Spurs won the title, the men of the NBA might have a little extra time on their hands to catch up on some social networking. But the internet is a cruel, cruel place, and Jimmy Kimmel has pointed this fact out yet again with another hilarious installment of Mean Tweets.

LOL! Watch the famous read mean tweets about themselves >>

"You know, NBA players and personalities tend to be very active on Twitter, and while Twitter does give them an opportunity to connect with their fans, it also opens them up to a lot of criticism," the host said on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "Some people have no problem tweeting terrible things to celebrities, and it can hurt. So, tonight, we asked some of the folks working in and around the NBA to read some of the most unpleasant tweets ever written about them." And boy, are there some doozies.

Metta World Peace, the basketball player formerly known as Ron Artest, seemed unfazed by Twitter user @StoopKidSean hurling insults his way. "What's the difference between Ron Artest and Metta World Peace? Nothing, they are both huge pieces of s***," the tweet reads. "Whatever, man," the ballplayer calmly said after reading the post. Well, the guy did legally change his name to inspire youth and bring people together all over the world, so it only makes sense that he's able to brush off a couple abrasive comments.

"Bob Costas is a vampire. Mark my words," Bob Costas quoted of @annabellington27 's tweet. While it's true that the sportscaster does seem to be aging well, we learned on True Blood that vampires don't use the bathroom, and we know all too well that Costas does.

A sad-faced Blake Griffin read @japoo3 's tweet: "Blake Griffin is still ugly as s***." While we strongly disagree with the sentiment, we give @japoo3 props for having the cojones to say such a mean thing about Griffin. Obviously the Twitter user didn't hear the internet rumor about how Griffin manhandled Justin Bieber.

A Dancing With the Stars pro had a bad Monday. Dancer Mark Ballas was involved in a two-car accident in Los Angeles that landed him in the hospital.

According to TMZ, the ABC star was turning right when another car behind him didn't slow down in enough time. As a result, the speeding car slammed into the back right side of his vehicle.

VIDEO: Get to know Mark Ballas, the single Justin Timberlake >>

Sources for the gossip site explained that the five men in the vehicle who caused the accident confronted Ballas. They believed he was at fault. However, an eyewitness spoke with police at the scene and supported the dancer's story.

Ballas' girlfriend, BC Jean, took him to the hospital after he complained of whiplash and back pain. They went to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where Ballas was treated and released after being prescribed pain medication.

This has been a rough time for Ballas, who also suffered a dislocated shoulder just a day before the final show for DWTS. He was able to perform despite being in pain throughout the finale.

The DWTS veteran is currently promoting his single, "Get My Name," which he first performed on the ABC competition show in May. He most recently sang the song on Access Hollywood Live last week and in Palm Springs over the weekend.

Ballas and his celeb partner, Candace Cameron Bure, came in third place on the most recent season of DWTS.

Switched at Birth - Love Among the Ruins

Welcome to the drama train, folks. Step on up and let's go for a ride in the summer premiere of Switched at Birth.

Oh, Bay and Emmett. In my review of the spring finale, I know I said I loved them, but sometimes they both make me so mad. When the mood strikes, it can be difficult to think straight, but how could they not have sex without protection? Their story made me want to bang my head against the wall a few times in this episode, though it (almost) worked out in the end.

Switched at Birth: Katie Leclerc promises insanity ahead >>

Bay decided that she wanted to be with Emmett, but she really needs to make sure she breaks up with Tank first. It is definitely ironic that she has now done the one thing she promised herself she'd never do to someone: cheat. I guess now she understands how one can get caught up in emotions and hormones. Not that that's an excuse, mind you.

As for Emmett, I felt so bad for him. He's not in an enviable position at all. The whole reason cyberbullies (or any kind of bully, for that matter) get away with what they do is that they know people are afraid to report them. They control their victims with fear, and Matthew has both Emmett and Melody over a barrel. I don't know what kind of photo Matthew has of Emmett, but obviously it's bad enough to keep Emmett quiet. And I know what Melody did was technically wrong, but I can't find it in myself to blame her at all. Someone attacked her kid, and she reacted the way I'd expect any mother to react.

5 Switched at Birth spring finale questions to ponder until summer >>

I kind of loved that when John and Kathryn found out about the vandalism at Regina's store, they were the ones to encourage her to not back down. I thought for sure that she would try and put all of that nasty business behind her, and I admire the fact that she's going to stick it out for the good of the neighborhood. I think if she and Wes can work together, they can find a plan that will work for everyone. She just needs to stop letting him walk all over her, and it looked like that might actually happen.

I have no idea what Daphne was thinking when she decided to go visit the guy who arranged a threat against her own mother. That was undeniably one of the dumbest ideas that girl has ever come up with, and I also can't believe that Bay decided to go with her. Thank goodness this is an ABC Family show. I mean, can you imagine that playing out in real life? "Hey, you threatened me and my mother and now I just tricked you into losing a pool game, but can you do me a favor?" Somehow I don't think that would have ended so well.

Luckily it went OK for Daphne — and was I the only one who detected a spark between her and Nacho? I know she's with Campbell now, but we've already seen how she can get her feelings stuck between two guys, so I can't say I'd be shocked if it happened again.

Switched at Birth: Should Daphne pick Campbell or Jorge? >>

One thing that I really liked about Daphne in this episode was her willingness to take on the scary stuff, not just with Nacho but also with Angelo. I don't think it was easy for her to tell him that she needed him to learn how to sign, but she did it anyway. She also came up with the idea to have him move in to keep them both safe. So I guess I can't be too mad at her about confronting a dangerous man. At least, for every bad idea she has, she comes up with a few good ones.

My favorite bits:

Daphne's reaction to finding out about Bay and Emmett.

John: "Who knew Iceland could be so awesome?"
Kathryn: "And yet, not that icy."

Emmett telling Matthew he did him a favor by getting him back to Bay.

Poor Bay trying to tell Tank she was breaking up with him when he was telling her how excited he was for their future. Awkward.

Bay: "I've lived with you for two years. You really think I don't know when you're lying?"

Bay suggesting they get to Nacho by flirting. I especially enjoyed the way she signed "flirt."

Bay turning into a card shark. Who knew?

Daphne not backing down to Nacho. Whoa.

Melody pointing out that Matthew needed to be punished so that other kids would learn cyberbullying was a crime.

Wondering exactly what kind of picture Matthew had of Emmett.

Angelo learning how to sign. So cute.

Bay: "There's so much that could drive us apart, but I'm not gonna let it."

What did you think of this episode of Switched at Birth? Do you think Bay and Emmett can make it work?

Murder in the First review: Freaky is good

murder in the first episode 2

This week's Murder In The First picks up shortly after we left off last week. English's beloved wife has finally passed away, and as he lays her to rest, we cross-cut back and forth with Cindy's autopsy in a series of well-timed shots that emphasize the similarities of the deaths of these two women. Both of them gone before their time, both cheated out of a future they'd planned on — but the hitch in Cindy's death throws even the medical examiner off his game.

Cindy has definitely been ruled a homicide, only it turns out that she was two months pregnant when her neck was broken, making it a double homicide.

Murder in the First review: We all had a dream world >>

The driving force behind this week's episode is English and Mulligan's search to collect DNA evidence that can tie someone to Cindy's murder. Two new suspects are added this week: Mark Strauss, Cindy's estranged husband, and Bill Wilkerson (Steven Weber), the pilot of Erich's personal jet and one of the last people Cindy sent a text to the night before she was killed. Additionally, it's discovered that Cindy performed oral sex on someone the night she was killed, and the right DNA evidence should put one of the three men in her apartment at the time of the murder.

The show, however, is at its best when it sets aside the Law & Order: SVU trappings and focuses on the relationships of the characters. We've seen mysteries like this unfold in countless police procedurals, and the time spent on medical details and tracking down suspects drags down the truly excellent character work that's being expanded on.

Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson both get spectacular moments to shine this week. Their friendship is, as ever, one of the most enjoyable things about Murder In The First thus far. Mulligan weeps wordlessly at English's wife's funeral, never approaching her partner, never saying a word, simply showing her loyalty and respect with her presence.

Once they're back in the office, it's business as usual. It's as if the funeral never happened. They tease each other, they slap high-fives, they run the good-cop-bad-cop scheme with practiced, efficient ease and they take real joy in working together. It's the most basic tenet of television writing: show, don't tell, and it's executed to such great effect this week. Mulligan knows that what English needs the most right now is not to be coddled. He needs one part of his world to go on turning the same as it always has, and that's the gift she gives to him without the show going out of its way to overemphasize it.

96 New TV shows in 2014-2015 >>

Additionally, James Cromwell as Daniels, the trial lawyer that David Hertzberg (Richard Schiff) instructs Erich to keep on retainer, is a welcome addition to the cast with only one scene. "Daniels defending Jesus in front of Pontius Pilate: Worst case scenario, he would have gotten his charges knocked from king of the Jews to disorderly conduct, with credit served for time in the lions' den. Maybe some community service," Hertzberg muses to a frustrated Erich, and we get the sense that Daniels is exactly as good as promised. Erich is a spoiled, petulant child who refuses to believe that anything relating to Cindy's murder could actually touch him; Daniels smiles like an indulgent grandfather who knows the kid will come around.

In spite of his protests, however, Erich (Tom Felton) has gotten increasingly more nervous. Nerves make him angry, and we've seen that Erich is a character for whom having control is the most important thing in the world. Early on in the episode, he barks orders at his design team when the pixelated water of the San Francisco Bay is too clear in their virtual reality game and he lost it at Cindy when she spilled red wine on his shirt. He has no tolerance for little mistakes, and when it occurs to him that he'll be one of the primary suspects in dealing with Cindy's murder, he quietly rages and lets it build up. This was not part of his plan, and it's a problem that he wants solved as quickly as possible.

When he swaggers into English and Mulligan's interrogation room, voluntarily submitting himself for questioning, he oozes practiced sympathy and platitudes about what a great girl Cindy was. He believes his wealth and power protect him, and taunts Mulligan with it once English clears the room to let her work her magic. If Erich is innocent, it's not enough for him to be innocent. He also wants the victory of humiliating anyone who dared to try to wrest that precious control away from him, who dared to interfere with his life.

Tom Felton: Harry Potter's villain vindicates >>

It's a challenge Mulligan is more than up to, and when she realizes that she's piqued Erich's sexual interest, she's ready to play it up. Robertson and Felton have surprisingly strong chemistry — the cop and the possible criminal flirting over drinks and dinner. He wanted to scare her in her office, but now he wants to win her over: control, always control. There's more than one way for him to take it, and Mulligan lets him believe he's winning right up until the moment she kisses him... with a giant wad of gum tucked into her mouth.

She's got that last, hard-to-get DNA sample. She's the one with the control.

More moments like those and Murder In The First goes from passable summer fun to something unmissable.

Murder in the First airs on TNT on Monday nights at 10/9c.
