REVIEW: Why Katy Tiz's "The Big Bang" should be the song of summer

Meet Katy Tiz. Born and raised in London, the blond bombshell is now based semi-permanently in America. She decided to move in an effort to break into the American music scene and we're so happy to have her here in the States. Her brand of funky and sassy pop music is exactly what we need this summer. Her newest single, "The Big Bang," is meant for drives along the beach with the windows down.

Yum! The heartthrobs of iHeartRadio >>

"The Big Bang" has a funkiness about it that seems fresh for the moment, but not entirely unfamiliar. Tiz's amazing attitude reminds us a lot of a young Fergie. And the slightly urban feel of the track is reminiscent of that first big record from P!nk. Don't get us wrong, we still love P!nk and Fergie. Possibly even more so than ever before. However, those ladies have come a long way in the last several years. "The Big Bang" feels like a slightly twisted step back into the recent past. It's just so damn fun and not at all serious or sentimental.

The big review: Our thoughts on the first annual iHeartRadio Music Awards >>

Tiz is pretty proud of her new single, as well. We caught up with her at the iHeartRadio Music Awards and chatted with her on the red carpet. We asked her about the new single, as well as her new album, and she was thrilled to share her opinions of them.

"I'm so excited! I couldn't buy it anymore if I tried, I think," she said of the new single. When we asked about her new album, she added, "It is kind of a real part of me. It is literally a piece of me. Lyrically I've taken my heart and put it on a page for everyone and I hope everybody relates to it."

We're excited for the new single, too, and can't wait to see how far it takes the charming Brit. Buy the single ASAP. Then, go for a spin and crank it up. You can thank us later.

Monaco royals hate Nicole Kidman's Princess Grace movie

Just days before the premiere of a highly anticipated Princess Grace biopic at the Cannes Film Festival, the Monaco royal family is turning its back on the Nicole Kidman-helmed flick.

In a statement released by the royals, Prince Albert II, Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie said Grace of Monaco, starring Nicole Kidman as the iconic actress-turned-princess, in no way represents the events of their late mother's life.

"On the occasion of the upcoming screening of the film Grace of Monaco at the opening of the Cannes Festival on May 14, 2014 and its release in theaters, the Prince's Palace would like to reiterate that this feature cannot under any circumstances be classified as a biopic," the royals wrote.

"The trailer appears to be a farce and confirms the totally fictional nature of this film. It reinforces the certainty, left after reading the script, that this production, a page of the Principality's history, is based on erroneous and dubious historical references. The director and producers refused to take into consideration the many observations made by the Palace because these called into question the entire script and the characters of the film.

Prince Albert weds Olympian in star-studded royal wedding >>

"The Princely family does not in any way wish to be associated with this film which reflects no reality and regrets that its history has been misappropriated for purely commercial purposes," the statement concluded.

They aren't the only ones who aren't happy with the movie. Distributor Harvey Weinstein ordered a second, much lighter cut of the film be made after deeming the original cut by director Olivier Dahan too grim and overly dramatic, according to the LA Times.

But screenwriter Arash Amel said the controversy is to be expected, considering Grace's "complicated" legacy.

"Grace Kelly was a complicated figure, and some will see her as a princess story and others will see her as a more tragic tale," he told the Times. "It's a matter of how you interpret the history."

Kerry Washington gives birth to a baby girl

It seems like just a few months ago we were still guessing whether Kerry Washington was pregnant or not, but she confirmed it in a big way by giving birth to a baby girl. According to TMZ, Washington and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha welcomed daughter Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha on April 21.

Celeb bump day: Mila Kunis, Stacy Keibler, Alyssa Milano, Kerry Washington >>

Washington and Asomugha, a former NFL player, were married back in June 2013, and didn't make their pregnancy very public. She did show up at the Golden Globes this year, though, with a very visible baby bump.

"I feel like I have the best date of the night," she told Ryan Seacrest on the Globes red carpet. "My little accessory tonight."

Her visit to an Oscars after-party also showed an undeniable bump. Washington was one of many actresses at the Oscars who were expecting babies — and very soon. Washington showed up in a Jason Wu gown, and Olivia Wilde, who also gave birth a few weeks ago, showed up looking glowing as well. The two actresses were also joined by a very pregnant Drew Barrymore at the Golden Globes.

At the time, Washington told People she was just enjoying the pregnancy, saying, "I feel really, really blessed. It just feels like a really good time."

Washington reportedly gave birth at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Like her pregnancy, she did a great job at keeping the birth private — it took almost two weeks for people to catch on (not an easy feat in Hollywood).

The 37-year-old’s show Scandal has been cleverly working around her growing baby bump, but luckily they will be able to show her full body from now on.

Congrats to Washington and Asomugha on the new addition to their family!

Gabourey Sidibe mocks reporters afraid they'll "catch fat"

Gabourey Sidibe absolutely loathes fielding questions about her ability to feel confident. The 30-year-old Precious actress, who you may also recognize from The Big C and American Horror Story, let her true feelings be known Thursday night at the Gloria Awards and Gala.

She began, "One of the first things people usually ask me is, 'Gabourey, how are you so confident?' I hate that. I always wonder if that's the first thing they ask Rihanna when they meet her. 'RiRi! How are you so confident?' Nope. No. No. But me? They ask me with that same incredulous disbelief every single time. 'You seem so confident! How is that?'"

Gabourey Sidibe shuts down fat shamers with a single tweet >>

After recalling the time she got shut down trying to share homemade cookies with her fifth-grade class, Sidibe explained, "I really got so excited to bake that I had forgotten that everyone hated my guts. Why didn't they like me? I was fat, yes. I had darker skin and weird hair, yes. But the truth is, this isn't a story about bullying, or color, or weight. They hated me because... I was an a**hole!"

At home, Sidibe also had a hard time with her parents criticizing her weight.

She went on to share, "So I got made fun of at school, I got made fun of at home too, my older brother hated me, my dad just didn't understand me, and my mom, who had been a fat girl at my age herself, understood me perfectly... but she berated me because she was so afraid of what she knew was to come for me."

Gabourey Sidibe told to quit Hollywood by Joan Cusack >>

Admitting there are moments when it's hard to face the cameras at a red carpet event, the Oscar-nominated actress explained, "There's always a big chance if I wear purple, I will be compared to Barney. If I wear white, a frozen turkey. And if I wear red, that pitcher of Kool-Aid that says, 'Oh, yeah!' Twitter will blow up with nasty comments about how the recent earthquake was caused by me running to a hot dog cart or something... Sometimes when I'm being interviewed by a fashion reporter, I can see it in her eyes, 'How is she getting away with this? Why is she so confident? How does she deal with that body? Oh my God, I'm going to catch fat!'"

Referring back to her classmates, as well as all of the other people who criticized her over the years, Sidibe concluded, "If they hadn't told me I was ugly, I never would have searched for my beauty. And if they hadn't tried to break me down, I wouldn't know that I'm unbreakable. So when you ask me how I'm so confident, I know what you're really asking me: how could someone like me be confident? Go ask Rihanna, a**hole!"

Wine rack for towels

Wine rack towel holder

Wine racks are popular gifts, so if you are like a lot of folks, you have more wine racks than wine. How do you fix this problem and create more storage in your bathroom? By repurposing your wine rack and turning it into a towel rack. The hidden beauty of this great idea is that most wine racks will fit nicely on the back of the toilet, which often ends up being valuable — but wasted — space.

2

Doorknobs for towel hangers

towel rack

Photo credit: Not Just a Housewife

Why do antique (or replica) doorknobs evoke feelings of nostalgia and romance? We can't answer that, but anytime doorknobs are used to better organize a space, we're in. Plain old towel racks are so last year. There is a newer, better way to get towels up off the floor — and this is it.

3

Ladder towel rack

ladder towel rack

Ladders are excellent for storage and decorating because ladder rungs so closely mimic shelves — without being shelves. Ladders also don't take up that much space, so if you have limited real estate in your bathroom, this can be a fun and easy way to store a multitude of bathroom necessities.

4

Screen jewelry frame

screen jewelry frame

It's easy for a washroom to start to resemble a jewelry boutique. We need jewelry to be a quick and effortless reach on the way out the door, which is why jewelry so often ends up scattered on bedroom furniture and bathroom counters. It's simple to install mesh or screening in open frames — so simple that you can make several of these in a weekend.

5

Peg-Board jewelry organizer

peg board jewelry holder

We're not quite done when it comes to clever techniques to organize jewelry in ways that are as attractive as the accessories themselves. Who would have thought that the Peg-Board we often associate with old-fashioned hardware stores would make such a clever backdrop for a beautiful wall hanging while doubling as an organizer? All it needs is a frame, a few hooks and some paint.

Speaking of paint, it is the single ingredient in all these fantastic ideas that takes these tricks from ordinary to extraordinary. Because this Peg-Board (along with several of these other crafts) is placed in a bathroom, which has high humidity, or in a mudroom, which has high traffic, you'll need a paint that is durable and washable and that adheres to a variety of surfaces. We love Lowe's new Valspar Reserve paint (Lowe's, $44) for its versatility and resilience, no matter what surface we decide to apply it to.

6

Cutlery tray as jewelry holder

Cutlery tray

Cutlery trays make ideal containers for jewelry, and because they can be hung vertically, horizontally or diagonally, they are a great use of whatever wall or door space you can spare. You can put only one of these trays in a drawer, but you can use multiple trays when hanging them.

7

Rock boot tray

Boots put the mud in mudrooms, and spring is upon us. That means lots of little and big feet will be tracking wet dirt into our homes. This simple tray, filled with rocks, is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

8

Backpack hooks

Backpack hooks

Photo credit: Home and Garden Design Ideas

Using hooks for backpacks is not a new concept. However, using incredibly cute or interesting hooks — painted in vibrant colors — is. This idea can be adapted to suit individual families and children. You can go with a sign and pictures above the hooks, as shown in this example, or you can use bulletin boards for art projects or use chalkboard paint so that older kids can read and leave messages.

9

Ironing board on hooks

Ironing board on hooks

Let's be honest — there is nothing glamorous or sexy about ironing boards. They conjure up images of our grandmothers, in their starched dresses, spending hours upon hours ironing. If you are still in the habit of using an iron and ironing table, you can save space and add to the charm of your laundry room by hanging the ironing board from a couple of distinctive hooks.

10

Lost socks

Lost socks are the bane of every adult's existence. We may never solve the mystery of why socks go into the wash together but somehow lose each other before exiting the dryer. At least now you can display these poor, lost creatures in a way that will make them feel a little less pitiful.

5

Window areas

Just because a window is placed in the center of a wall doesn't mean it's nonfunctional. Optimize space with the use of built-in shelves. Great for knickknacks or extra storage, this is a sure-fire way to create more room in an area without any.

6

Above the kitchen cabinets

Above the kitchen cabinets is a pretty hard space to decorate. If you place accent items up there, you'll need to dust and clean them regularly — which can be both annoying and hazardous. Sneaky tricks designers use to add the "polishing" touch

$
0
0

You don't need a design degree to add that "polishing touch" to your home. Famous designers share their professional secrets to help you revamp a room with just a few simple and affordable changes.

Tips for utilizing window coverings in your design

Use these terrific tricks for using drapes as the perfect polishing touch to a room.

Window treatments that frame or hide the view: Use shades, shutters, curtains and valances to control sight lines to the outdoors.

"Open window coverings wide to let in light and frame great views, but carefully adjust drapes or blinds to hide views that are negative," says artist and designer Pablo Solomon.

Crisp, wrinkle-free draperies: Your fabulous window treatments will have a ho-hum appearance until you give them that finishing touch. Beverly Hills designer Ryan Saghian equates steaming drapes with a woman's curling her lashes.

"I always do a final steam before I wrap a project," says Saghian.

Paint-and-panel match: Window coverings have the power to make a space appear larger.

"Choose drapery panels similar in color to your walls to create an expansive look in small rooms," says Los Angeles-based interior designer Baiyina Hughley.

Rich-looking budget drapes: Get custom-look window panels without spending big bucks.

"Add trim to plain, inexpensive curtains," says Los Angeles interior designer Cody Elderkin.

Consider ribbons, beads, fringes, tassels, braided cords or anything that makes your panels look unique and beautiful.

Tips for using books as decor

Stop looking at your family's book inventory as clutter. Decorator's tricks enable you to incorporate beloved reading material into your home's final design.

Coffee table books

Coffee-table books: Books make a house look and feel like a home.

"Books tell a lot about the people living there and what interests they may have," says Saghian. "I love to add decorative coffee-table books all over the room."

Books as furniture: Don't hide your books in boxes or bins. Proudly display them as a way to inject your family's personality into a room. Use stacked books as side tables or to prop up a lamp or decorative collectible.

Color-coded shelves: "If you have a lot of books and trinkets you would like to decorate your bookshelves with, organize them by color," suggests interior designer Alison Victoria, host of HGTV's Kitchen Crashers. "It will instantly create a fresh and streamlined appearance, so they don't look cluttered."

Spine-in books: For a sleek, modern look, turn those books around.

"Style decorative bookshelves with your books backward (pages showing)," says Hughley. "Lay them flat, stacking them into piles of different heights for a clean look."

Tips for creating the perfect, polished bedroom

Incorporate sneaky designer tricks for a resort-style bedroom retreat.

Larger comforters: "Always use the next-size-up comforter in a duvet for a full look," says Los Angeles–based interior designer Baiyina Hughley. "Use a king-sized insert inside a queen duvet cover, fold it into thirds at the foot of your bed and use a coverlet over the sheets for a polished look."

Small-scale art: The bed is the focal point in the room, but the decor doesn't end there.

"Place a tiny framed piece of art above a headboard to draw the eye up," says Hughley. "The small scale above the large bed tricks the eye and works beautifully."

Puffed-up bed pillows: "Pillow inserts inside of pillowcases should be 1 to 2 inches larger than the cover," says Hughley. "Don't use full down inserts for decorative Euro shams or bolster pillows — use a 30/70 mix so they stand fuller and don't deflate when you lean on them."

Pillow chop: You've heard of fluffing the pillows, but chopping them?

"I always like to use down feather-pillow inserts and judo chop them," says Saghian. "The judo chop is a design tool that always looks better."

Glass and mirrors: Add a true polishing touch to the bedroom with shiny accessories that play off the light.

"Mirrors or glass table accents add glamour to any room," says Desha Peacock, author of Create the Life You Crave on a Budget You Can Afford.

Vintage accessories: Even the most contemporary bedroom decor can use an antique touch.

"A little bit of old-world charm makes a big impact," says Saghian. "I always like to mix in some vintage treasures that I find at thrift shops and flea markets."

Tips to incorporate that ugly TV into your design

It's black. It's square. And it's downright ugly. That eyesore of a TV can really detract from your overall design, but these simple tricks help make it far less offensive.

Living room with mounted tv

Mounted TV: "A task as simple as mounting your TV can quickly transform your space," says celebrity interior designer Genevieve Gorder. "Not only will this create a more open look and more space, but it will increase safety."

Camouflaged TV: "Place art and furnishings around your mounted TV to blend with the wall decor," says Gorder. "The TV becomes less of a focal point and instead more like a piece of art itself."

Keep it clean and bright for that final touch

Your home is a work-in-progress, and you'll continually find things that you want to change. Whatever your style or design choices, keeping your home neat and clean will make it feel complete.

"The term 'polishing touch' has stuck for a reason," says Solomon. "The cleaner, brighter and more polished everything is, the better the impression it will make."

Warm up a family room fireplace

Cozy family room

This warm family room looks cold as ice with a barren living space. But with a wonderful wall addition, this room should be closed in and facing its largest focal point. Cozy it up by using a sectional and a large upholstered chair to close in the area and bring light in with bright accents. A rug that combines color with the gray in the couch and wall will blend well with like-colored throw pillows and accent furniture. Make the space look lived-in with personalized wall art and some friendly succulents in the space next to the fireplace. Encourage comfort with books on the table and a lovely throw.

Create a welcoming New York penthouse

New York City is the Big Apple and home of city lights, but this penthouse looks a little dim. A nice space with large wall-to-wall windows, this room is well-organized but just needs to be a bit more welcoming. Make the boring setup cozy by adding a comfy love seat, a sophisticated chair and a modern coffee table. Add a striped rug to mix in well with the neutral shades of the room. Tie in some heart of the city with an ode to New York on the wall and metallic candles for cuddling up beneath the city's bright lights. Don't forget The New York Times and New York Magazine for light reading.

Spruce up a formal living room

Formal living room

While a formal living room should look sharp, it definitely does not need to look dull. Because it has only a little furniture, this elongated space can be transformed with a few comfy additions. Liven it up a bit by enclosing the area with an upholstered club chair, a tufted ottoman and an area rug. Condense the space into its own room by hanging silk curtains in a neutral but slightly metallic shade. Add a floor lamp between the sectional and the couch and place a flower arrangement on the ottoman to add a homey vibe. Place a wreath in the middle of the mirror for added beauty.

Switch directions

Bookshelves are not just for books, ladies. Take advantage of all those shelves and use them to display some of your pretties. Don't just set them anywhere, though, or you'll end up with a cluttered display in a hurry. Set some of your books horizontally, and place smaller accessories on top. This breaks up some of the larger displays and makes the shelves look less crammed.

2

Achieve balance

Mantle

Unbalanced displays tend to look thrown together. Achieve balance in longer displays, like on the mantel, by starting from the middle and working your way out. Place your largest piece, which will serve as the focal point, in the middle. Work your way out by placing like-sized items on either side.

3

Use trays

coffee table tray

Using trays is a great way to pull together lots of accessories without creating a cluttered look. Instead of scattering items all over your tabletop, corral them together in a tray. Don't just throw together any mismatched pieces, though. Make sure they're all of similar colors or textures.

4

Have an anchor

table runner

It's easy for several items arranged on a table to look scattered. Pull it all together with an anchor, like a table runner. This simple addition makes your collection look like a planned arrangement, not a scattered mess.

5

Choose a corner

kitchen tables

Who says everything always has to be placed in the middle of your table? Gather a few pieces (remember to keep it an odd number) and arrange them in a corner instead. Sometimes, an unexpected placement is all it takes to achieve a fresh look.

6

Pick a color scheme

Random accessories displayed on a shelf quickly turn to clutter if you don't plan carefully. Before you arrange items on a shelf or tabletop, pick a color scheme for your display. Items of different shapes, sizes and uses suddenly seem to go together when you pull them together in a complimentary color palette.

Throw pillows

Throw pillows

If you've been relying on the boring old throw pillows that came with your sofa set, you should know your couch could be making much more of a fashion statement. Using throw pillows as accents is a quick, inexpensive way to pep up your space, and you can easily change them out with the seasons. Look for designs that help pick up other accent colors in your room without being too matchy-matchy, and don't be afraid to layer. Two on each end (plus another in the bend of an L-shaped sectional) will brighten up your living space in an instant.

2

Your bookcase

Colorful bookshelf

Setting up a bookcase seems like a simple enough endeavor: Slide books in and forget about it. But if that's all you're doing, you're missing an easy opportunity to make a big design statement. You can go as far as to arrange your spines by color for a rainbow effect, or you can go as simple as stacking books on their side to use as a base for framed photos or knickknacks. Adding a basket or two is a great way to catch all those small odds and ends that always seem to pile up.

3

Curtains

Curtains

Hanging your curtains just at the tops of your windows is OK, but to really maximize the height of your room, try hanging them several inches to a full foot above the window molding and a few inches off to each side. This will make your windows — and your room — look larger and taller than they actually are.

12 Ways to dress your windows so you can walk around naked >>

5

Color choices

Neutral paint color

Blue may be your favorite color, but a blue couch on a blue rug in a room with blue paint and blue curtains is a little yawn-inducing, even for a Smurf. Use one color as your anchor and then accent it with two or more complementary colors. Brighten up with pretty printed curtains, plus throw pillows, artwork and other accessories that coordinate but don't fade into the background. A new coat of paint — like one of the many colors offered by Valspar Reserve (Lowe's, $45) with HydroChroma technology — in a neutral color can really make your furniture and artwork pop.

6

Artwork

Painting

Too many beautiful pieces of art are losing their potential in homes across the country because they are hung all wrong. Many know the adage that artwork should be hung at eye level, but if you are taller or shorter than average, your perspective will be at an awkward height for everyone else viewing the piece. Instead, go with the standard gallery measurement: The center of the artwork should be 57 inches off the ground. Another great way to add interest to a collection of art or family photos is to create a gallery wall. Check out Pinterest for tons of great arrangement ideas.

Ben Affleck removed from Vegas casino for card counting

It seemed like Ben Affleck's troubled days were over once he settled down and married Jennifer Garner. However, it looks like the Oscar-winning producer found some trouble in Sin City.

According to TMZ, Affleck was gambling at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas on Tuesday night. He had taken a quick vacation for some private time with his wife before he goes to Detroit for his newest film, Batman vs. Superman.

Gone Girl trailer: Is Ben Affleck a killer? >>

While he was playing blackjack at a high rollers' table, he was reportedly surrounded by security for counting cards. Counting cards is a strategy that involves counting the card values to decrease a gambler's betting risk. While it isn't considered illegal, the casinos sure don't like it.

As a result, the Town star was kicked out of the casino and sent on his way. TMZ sources said Affleck was labeled an "advantaged player" and he is no longer welcome to play blackjack at the Hard Rock.

JLo forced to choose between exes Ben Affleck and Diddy >>

Affleck certainly isn't a newbie when it comes to gambling, since he once lost $400,000 to movie executive Ron Meyer in a poker game that he hosted back in 2004. Perhaps the 41-year-old actor should stick to making movies instead of hitting the tables.

Affleck's rep has not made a comment as of press time, but we are going to bet the director wishes that what happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas.

Thigh gap to finger trap: We are measuring beauty all wrong

$

Teen girl doing finger-trap test

Well, thank goodness, because I'd almost come to terms with my lack of a four-inch thigh gap. This new method of self-loathing is called the finger-trap test, and it's roughly translated "beauty and ugliness identification method."

If that translation doesn't stop you, go ahead: Simply hold up your index finger like you're shushing someone, and place the tip of your finger against the tip of your nose and the base of your finger against your chin. Does your finger touch your lips? If it does, sorry — you're horrifyingly unattractive.

Questionable origins of the finger-trap test

The good news, of course, is that the finger-trap test is founded on a whole lot of nothing. When the test first started trending on social media, users made the assumption that it was based on the facial proportions for determining ideal beauty. It's not. Ideal beauty standards are typically measured when looking at the face head-on, and none measure the protrusion of the lips between the nose and chin.

As it turns out, the whole test actually began when a Chinese celebrity and her Weibo followers made a joke about a Japanese meme. But since social media has a way of propelling beauty trends before users stop to access their beautiful brains, the trend took off.

Take heart, all you finger-trap failures

In case the above history lesson didn't trigger your critical-thinking skills, you know who passes the finger-trap test? People without teeth and the Duke Blue Devil.

On the other hand, classic beauties like Victoria Beckham, Angelina Jolie and Lupita Nyong'o are complete and total finger-trap failures.

Instead of relying on the finger-trap test, your best bet is to look in the mirror and love who you see in front of you. Or, you know, measure your worth by the size of your thigh gap.

George Clooney lashes back at casino mogul Steve Wynn

Even though George Clooney has been making headlines for getting engaged lately, there's a tiff he was involved in that just won't go away. The Monuments Men actor got into quite the argument with casino owner Steve Wynn over President Obama and his Affordable Care Act.

On April 23, while the two were out to dinner with a group of eight people, Wynn allegedly called the president an "a**hole." Clooney defended his close friend after the Las Vegas mogul continued to bash him.

George Clooney gets in drunken tiff with Vegas bigwig >>

The war continued on Friday after the Wynn Resorts Ltd. CEO went on Bloomberg's Market Makers and denied ever saying such a thing. He even called Clooney "mollycoddled" and implied the actor had imbibed too much at dinner.

As a result, the 52-year-old star released a blistering statement to People.

Clooney wrote, "Steve Wynn and I have met three times, two times for dinner. That is the extent of our knowledge of one another, so I will refrain from trying to categorize him based on the little time we've spent together, but I will not let his version of the truth go unchallenged.

"He now says he didn't call the president an 'a**hole.' That is false. He bellowed 'I voted for the a**hole,' and then called him the same thing several more times as the dinner came to an abrupt end."

Cindy Crawford was accidentally in bed with George Clooney >>

Clooney went on to refer to the fact that Wynn's antics were witnessed by more than just one person.

He continued, "Again, there were eight people at the table, eight witnesses. I did, in turn, call him the same body part and walked out. Again, he can make up whatever story he wants, but these are the facts. He said I drank 16 shots of tequila. I didn't drink one shot of tequila — not one. We were drinking, but it was early, and we still had two events to attend.

"He said I live in a bubble. More of a bubble than Las Vegas? Honestly? He says I'm 'mollycoddled,' that I'm surrounded by people who coddle me. I would suggest that Mr. Wynn look to his left and right and find anyone in his sphere that says anything but 'yes' to him. Emphatically. I did not attend a private boys' school, I worked in tobacco fields and in stock rooms and construction sites. I've been broke more of my life than I have been successful, and I understand the meaning of being an employee and how difficult it is to make ends meet."

George Clooney engaged: An odd game of one-upmanship? >>

That's when Clooney went straight for the kill and hit Wynn right where it hurts: his pride.

The Oscar winner summed up, "Steve is one of the richest men in the world and he should be congratulated for it, but he needs to take off his red sparkly dinner jacket and roll up his sleeves every once in a while and understand what most of the country is actually dealing with... or at least start with the fact that you can't make up stories when eight people who are not on your payroll are sitting around you as witnesses."

Don't ever double-cross Clooney.

Justin Bieber's foiled Central Park engagement plans

Justin Bieber is already thinking about weddings and his future wife, and he has apparently started picking out marriage proposal venues. Or at least he was, until "things changed" in the love life of the troubled pop star.

Leona Lewis says no to a Christmas proposal >>

The Biebs recently posted an Instagram photo of himself posing in Central Park, wearing what appears to be a hankie fashioned into a man-skirt. "Was gonna wait to go to Central Park for when I proposed to my future wife but s*** sometimes things change. I'll think of something more romantic," the "As Long As You Love Me" singer captioned the photo.

Though Bieber doesn't say who he is talking about when he says "future wife," it's easy to speculate that he is referencing on-again off-again girlfriend Selena Gomez. The two singers are currently off. Despite being broken up from Gomez, Bieber has continued to obsess about his ex publicly on social media. Bieber even posted a picture of Gomez at the Vanity Fair Oscars party and captioned it "the most elegant princess in the world." He has also admitted that Gomez is his musical muse and that the lyrics "life is worth living/so live another day" in his song "Life is Worth Living Again" are about his former flame.

Bieber has been all about embarrassing himself on social media for some time now, but he has refused to learn from previous snafus. Last week, the Canada native alienated many South Korean and Chinese fans when he posted a controversial photo of himself posing in front of a Japanese shrine with the caption "Thank you for your blessings." The shrine commemorates people killed in war, including some convicted Japanese war criminals who were military leaders responsible for massacring thousands of people in China.

Bieber's intentions seem romantic, but considering all of the trouble he's been in lately, it might be a good idea to put marriage plans on hold and focus on himself.

How is it possible that two of the biggest stars on HBO's True Blood managed to stay off of Twitter until 2014? That all ended on Friday, when Anna Paquin and hubby Stephen Moyer finally joined the social media site.

They both kicked off their profiles with a couples' selfie showing the two embracing in the sunset. Both are sporting dark glasses, with Moyer also keeping a bit of scruff on his face.

Paquin tweeted, "Tweet tweet husband @_smoyer…." Moyer sent back a cute "Chirp chirp wife @annapaquin…."

Sound of Music Live! was Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So good >>

The bios on their profile are even adorable. The 31-year-old mother of twins described herself as a "Producer, hot sauce enthusiast, surprisingly functional former kiddie actor."

Moyer shared that he is an "Actor, director, producer, bacon lover."

They are already verified by Twitter with the signature blue checkmark badge. Paquin has 13,700 followers, while Moyer has 11,000 followers. The X-Men star chose to follow 65 friends, including Malin Akerman, Dianna Agron and funnyman Steve Martin. Moyer was a bit more selective, following only 34 people, including True Blood costars Joe Manganiello, Carrie Preston and Kristin Bauer.

The couple married in 2010 and started a family in 2012. Twins Charlie and Poppy are the duo's first kids together. Moyer has two kids, son Billy and daughter Lilac, from a previous relationship with journalist Lorien Haynes.

True Blood: The Final Season will premiere on June 22.

Living room with no curtains

1

No window treatments

Curtains are totally key to your home's appeal. If you only have blinds covering your windows, simply hang a curtain rod and drape sheer fabric over it for an airy and bright ambiance.

2

Knickknack clutter

All too often, tiny trinkets, frames and cute knickknacks overrun spaces and give homes an overpowering dose of country charm. Remove 10 small decorative items from your shelves and surfaces to let your room breathe.

3

Poorly placed wall art

Whether your wall art is a mirror, portrait or painting, make sure it's not placed too high or too low on the wall. Your room will look its best when wall art is hanging 60 to 66 inches from the floor, so move your poorly placed wall art to improve your room's dimensions.

4

Photo-bombing

Just like knickknacks, picture frames have a way of taking over a home's decor. If you have more than one framed photo on your bedside table or shelf, remove the extra frames and place the photos where they belong — in a photo album — for an updated appeal.

5

Grouping items in even clusters

Anytime you have a set of decorative items like vases or candles, you need to display them in odd-numbered clusters. Either remove or add one decorative item from or to even-numbered clusters so your room will look finished rather than patched together.

6

Family portraits in bedrooms

Your family is truly beautiful, but you may not want them staring at you when you cuddle in bed at night. Move family portraits into shared spaces like kitchens and living rooms to avoid the creepy feeling of eyes staring at you and your guests while sleeping.

{pageBreak}

Fake flowers

7

Fake flower arrangements

Sorry, you're really not fooling anyone with that silk flower arrangement. It's better to either replace fake flowers with real bouquets or just not display any flowers at all. If you can't afford a fresh bouquet every week, display potted flowers instead for a long-lasting pop of color.

8

Too much matching

Decorative items should complement each other rather than completely match. For example, a room with purple accents should not have only one color of purple represented in the space. Instead, use a mix of violet, plum and purple-gray for a room that flows together without being overpowering. Too much matching is easily fixed by swapping out throw pillows, vases and rugs.

9

Toilet rugs of any kind

Bathrooms definitely need area rugs to avoid slipping, but please don't adorn your commode with carpeting. Ditch the puzzle-shaped toilet rug and matching lid cover and replace it with a rectangular, no-slip bathroom carpet.

10

Pattern overload

Patterns are great, as long as they're used appropriately. A pattern should provide visual interest without carrying the room. For instance, if your pillows, rug and curtains are the same pattern, you need to remove at least one of these items and replace it with another in different a pattern or a solid color.

11

Awkward area-rug placement

Area rugs can complete the layout of a room or make it feel slightly awkward. It's all about placement. Make sure that your area rug is "anchored" to a piece of furniture rather than freely floating on your tile or hardwood.

12

Furniture pushed against walls

It may seem counterintuitive, but your room will feel both larger and cozier if you pull your sofas and tables away from the walls. The only piece of furniture that you should smash against a wall is a bookshelf.

1

A splash of color

The entrance to every home tells a story, so who wants a front door that says bland and boring? Splashing your front door with a vibrant, eye-catching color lets passersby know your home is special. Valspar Reserve, a premium interior and exterior paint sold exclusively at Lowe's, relies on its unique HydroChroma technology that bonds the color to the paint so the color stays true longer on your door. It also holds up well to accidents, scuffs and anything else that comes with an active family.

Since the front door is your guests' first impression of your home, go with a color that makes a statement. We love Valspar Pantone Poppy Red (Lowe's, $3, 8 oz).

Valspar Pantone Poppy Red (Lowes.com, $3).

2

Fabulous fixtures

Nothing is worse than waiting under the glare of harsh light. Entries should be bathed in a warm glow so guests begin to relax as soon as they reach your door, says Alisa Carroll, design expert and editor in chief of the new San Francisco Cottages & Gardens magazine.

For your table on your porch, check out this JOI Lantern (Gaiam, $160) that uses thermoelectric outdoor eco LED lighting, or wow guests with this very affordable allen + roth 52-inch Aged Bronze Outdoor Floor Lamp (Lowe's, $100).

3

Decorative hardware

Think of decorative hardware as jewelry for your door.

"Just like your own fashion accessories, statement pieces can really establish your residential style," Carroll says.

Restoration Hardware has a beautiful selection of door hardware, from this round embossed doorbell ($7 0 $10) to ring door knockers ($40 - $50).

Decorative hardware

4

Door numbers

Your home's personal signature, door numbers convey your style.

"I love arriving at a modernist home to see bold, backlit numbers — or clambering up the front porch of a Victorian and being greeted by a vintage set," Carroll says.

Try hand-painting numbers on your door, or check out these cool house numbers featured at Design Within Reach ($24). Looking for something with an antique feel? Try these copper house numbers (House of Antique Hardware, $24) that feature an unlacquered finish for natural aging. Bonus: They're eco-friendly, made with a minimum of 95 percent recycled material.

5

Inviting seating

One of the easiest ways to spruce up your porch is with inviting seating. An inviting bench conveys you're in no rush to see guests leave, and seating can add a sense of warmth to any porch area, Carroll says.

This Recycled Outdoor Bench (Gaiam, $479) is made from recycled wood and iron, and it makes a sturdy addition to your porch. Or try this beautiful Lutyens Eucalyptus English Garden Bench (Plow & Hearth, $200), which is crafted of eco-friendly, weather-resistant eucalyptus and is inspired by the designs of architect Sir Edwin Lutyens.

6

Fun accessories

With the right accessories, your front porch can quickly become a conversation piece.

This Rookwood Wishbone (Rookwood, $98) is a ceramic art piece sure to attract attention. Or try this Tall Hanging Lantern (Rodale's, $34) that will elevate your porch with modern rustic flair. Have a cluttered porch with kids' toys? This Apple Cart Crate (Maine Heritage Timber, $65) is a practical storage solution for any porch, but it also adds charm and is a great conversation piece. It's made in Millinocket, Maine, using 400-year-old virgin-growth trees, which were felled a century ago and floated down the Penobscot River as part of the logging boom at that time.
