Jennifer Garner Reveals What She Learned From Marrying & Divorcing Ben Affleck

It’s been nearly three years since Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck split, and the 46-year-old actress has handled that heartbreak with more grace than most — particularly considering she’s endured it under the unrelenting lens of public scrutiny. And in an interview with CBS News set to air this Sunday, July 15, Garner is opening up about what she has taken away from the scope of this experience with Affleck.

More: Everyone Lost Their Cool Over Jennifer Garner's Oscars Appearance

Understandably, she gets emotional discussing how intense the media pressure was when the former couple first announced their separation. “Looking back on that, I really feel the stress of it. I really, I could cry talking about it,” she told CBS News (via Us Weekly), referring to the 20 paparazzi cars parked outside of her home every day.

Garner goes on to discuss how that sort of constant scrutiny on a relationship can turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

“What I think I’ve learned is that the scrutiny in your private life puts a pressure to make something happen,” she said. “You feel a pressure to hurry up and get married, ‘cause you think that’ll end the ‘Are you engaged? Are they not?’ And that’s true in the reverse, as well. If there is any inkling of trouble, or if the tabloids decide there’s trouble, it can create trouble.”

Still, Garner says, that attention wasn’t the most demoralizing part of her split with Affleck. Rather, it was the split itself that Garner truly struggled with, saying, “But to be honest, public scrutiny, everyone says, ‘Oh, you’ve had to go through this in public.’ The public isn’t what’s hard. What’s hard is going through it.”

More: Ben Affleck & Lindsay Shookus Were Spotted Doing Very Couple-y Things

Although Affleck quickly moved on with Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus, whom he remains in a relationship with to date, Garner hasn’t yet ventured back into the dating world (that anyone knows of).

That doesn’t mean she hasn’t worked her way into anyone’s heart, though. As impossible as it sounds, the mother-of-three has become even more endearing over the last few years.

Between being vulnerable and open about her breakup from Affleck to finally joining Instagram (those Hamilton tears!), Garner has cemented her status as one of Hollywood’s most lovable and authentic stars.

Ellen Pompeo Has a Lot to Say About Sandra Oh's Emmys Nomination

Ellen Pompeo hasn’t shared the screen with Sandra Oh since 2014, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t still Oh’s “person.” When the 70th Primetime Emmy Award nominations were handed down on Thursday, Oh made the cut. And while it took the news a day to reach Pompeo, Oh’s former Grey’s Anatomy co-star could not have been more excited for her friend.

More: All the Ways Sandra Oh's Killing Eve Character Is Basically Grey's Cristina Yang

On Friday, Pompeo took to Twitter to gush over Oh and her impressive accolade. “I was not on my phone yesterday and clearly missed ALOT!!! [sic]. Congratulations @IAmSandraOh this is beyond well deserved and your history making is incredibly moving,” Pompeo wrote, referring to the fact that Oh is the first Asian-American woman ever to be nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama.

In true BFF form, Pompeo doesn’t just think it’s great Oh was nominated — she’s positive her friend will win. “Can’t wait to hear your speech!!,” Pompeo added, “Which will have us in tears and laughing at the same time no I’m sure.”

In April, Oh gave a nod to her time on Grey’s for her now Emmy-nominated turn as Eve Polastri in the BBC America’s thriller Killing Eve

“There are so many profound things that Grey’s gave me,” Oh told The Hollywood Reporter. “I always feel like [it’s a question of] how do you want to grow? That decade on Grey’s was such an important experience of my life that the next thing that I was going to do had to feel as important and as interesting.”

More: Sandra Oh Credits Grey's Anatomy for Her TV Comeback

It was Grey’s, said Oh, that gave her the confidence to turn down pilots that didn’t inspire her until the right one came along. And you better believe Pompeo has been there, cheering her person on every step of the way.

When a Vanity Fair interview came out, lauding Oh's new gig, Pompeo retweeted the piece, adding, “This is a great article. @IamSandraOh talent is otherworldly. I was a huge fan of hers before Greys and I can’t wait to watch this show.”

Can you feel that, Grey’s Anatomy fandom? That’s our cup, officially running over. We may not get to see Pompeo and Oh roaming the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital anymore (although, to be honest, we’re still holding out hope), but at least we know the women are still empowering and supporting each other in real life.

We Sleep-Train Babies — Why Not Sleep-Coach Adults?

It's a sequence of events that's all-too-familiar to so many: a night of tossing and turning followed by a day of throwing back coffee in a desperate effort to stay awake and alert. Cue the vicious cycle.

One in 4 Americans develops acute insomnia each year according to a study conducted by researchers at University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine. It's no wonder some of these exhausted adults are turning to sleep coaches in search of solutions that don't involve prescription sleep aids.

What is sleep coaching?

So, what exactly does sleep coaching entail? Dr. Alex Dimitriu, double board-certified in psychiatry and sleep medicine, tells SheKnows that sleep coaching "is, in effect, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia — also known as CBTI." Cognitive behavioral therapy, which is used to treat a wide number of mental health conditions, is a solution-focused method of treatment that aims to help patients develop healthier patterns of behavior and reframe damaging thought patterns.

More: Why Insomnia Is More Than Not Being Able to Fall Asleep

"Sleep coaching or CBT will often focus on maintaining regular sleep and wake times, being mindful of what we do before sleep, and avoiding tossing and turning in bed if unable to sleep," Dimitriu explains. "CBT for insomnia has been shown to be quite effective but often requires the practitioner to be trained and experienced."

Should you see a sleep coach instead of a doctor?

Both Dimitriu and Dr. Adam Perlman, a physician and director of Duke's Leadership Program in Integrative Medicine, express similar concerns about turning to sleep coaches before undergoing a thorough examination by a doctor. "There is no required training or certification to become a sleep coach and little or no research on the benefits of hiring a sleep coach," Perlman tells SheKnows.

"The concern with nonmedical people managing insomnia is their lack of medical knowledge [because] often, insomnia can also be a marker of some other condition," Dimitriu explains, citing examples such as sleep apnea, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, thyroid conditions and restless leg syndrome.

More: 5 Healthy Sleep Aids That Won't Leave You Groggy the Next Day

But once a person has been evaluated by their medical provider and an underlying cause has been ruled out, Dimitriu and Perlman say sleep coaching can be an effective way to manage mild cases of insomnia. "If someone is having difficulty getting motivated to make the changes they need to make or feeling unclear or confused about the right changes for them, a sleep coach certainly might be helpful," Perlman says.

And although Dimitriu has concerns about nonmedical people managing insomnia, he says that laypeople can learn to be effective sleep coaches as long as they remain aware of other medical and psychiatric conditions that could be the real culprits.

More: Does Melatonin Really Help You Sleep?

Is it worth it?

But as Perlman points out, hiring a sleep coach requires money and time that not everyone has at their disposal. (Sleep coaching is not covered by insurance and can cost up to $150 per hour.) If this is out of your price range, there are other options — books and the internet are excellent resources, and most important, a conversation with your health care provider can arm you with the information you need to get into a healthier sleep pattern.

Perlman says a sleep coach will provide advice like limiting sugar, avoiding heavy meals late at night, eliminating screens within one hour of bedtime and skipping strenuous exercise after 5 p.m. Again, this is information your doctor can provide — but if you do have the time and budget for a sleep coach, he or she can help keep you motivated and hold you accountable as you make these lifestyle changes.

Once an underlying condition has been ruled out, a sleep coach may be just what the doctor ordered — but it's important to remember there's a wealth of information and advice available for people who can't shell out the money for a sleep coach.

The Real Problem The Last Defense Presents Isn't About Darlie's Innocence at All

$

The big impact of ABC's The Last Defense is not at all what we expected.

More: New Crime Documentaries Everyone Is Talking About

The moral of the show is less about whether Darlie Routier is guilty or innocent and more about the problematic bias in our legal system. This is typical of true-crime shows. For example, The Staircase highlighted how Michael Peterson was judged not for the evidence related to the crime but for the fact that he was a bisexual man. Same with Making A Murderer. Steven Avery was disliked by the local police and, therefore, became a suspect — with police even going so far as to plant evidence.

The Last Defense presented a similar defense for Routier: that the prosecution wrongfully painted her as a sexy, selfish woman with breast implants and a desire for freedom from her family. With these motives in mind, they argued that she murdered her children to collect a measly $10,000 life insurance policy and live the "good life" as a childless woman. Never mind the fact that her infant son, who was upstairs sleeping, was never targeted in the crime. Never mind the fact that the Routiers spent more than $10,000 on funeral expenses alone. Never mind the fact that Darlie had no record of violence or making violent threats against her family.

Yes, there is a very good chance that Darlie is innocent.

But the most shocking bit of information was the revelation that evidence has been sitting in a box somewhere, waiting for testing, for nine years. Nine freaking years! All while Darlie, possibly an innocent woman, sits on death row.

Darlie's appellate attorneys are hoping they can prove that someone else was in the house on the night of the murders. There is a mysterious fingerprint, coded 85-J, at the scene that has yet to be run through the database. It reportedly doesn't match any of the family members. Some claim the fingerprint doesn't have enough viable points for match testing, but Darlie's attorneys are arguing otherwise, especially because testing has improved over time. There is also bloody clothing from that night they have ordered to be tested, to see if there is someone else's blood to be found other than the victims'. So, why the heck has critical testing like this been delayed for nine years? Why does the system move so slowly?

More: Octavia Spencer's Next Project Is for True-Crime Fans Everywhere

The show doesn't have an answer. It's just how the justice system is. And that seems totally unacceptable.

Think of it like this: When we go to the doctor and get a blood test, we get the results back in just a couple of days. If we had to wait nine years for test results, can you imagine the backlash? Testing at the doctor would be obsolete. So, why is it acceptable for lab testing to take this long in a death row case? Why is Darlie behind bars when there could be evidence sitting in a box that proves she's innocent?

According to the Rowlett Lakeshore Times, Darlie's mother, Darlie Kee, said testing was expected to be complete by April 2016, but it was delayed because there were other cases ahead of Darlie's case. So, two years later, we're still waiting on results.

The only answer seems to be money. As of 2012, Hood County News reported that testing the DNA evidence would cost about $200,000. But those close to Darlie's case argue that if she is innocent, the expense is more than worth it, especially when you consider that much more money was spent on her trial, not to mention the appeals proceedings.

Kee reportedly said that her husband, Bob, believes money would make a difference in Darlie's case. Kee said he told her, "If we win the lottery, Darlie’s coming home for sure."

The only upside to the delays in testing is that Darlie's execution date is pushed back. This is good if the testing comes back with no new results about a third party entering the home. Again, however, the catch is that an innocent woman could possibly be sitting on death row.

Is a painfully slow justice system actually just? That's the root of this case and the root of The Last Defense. At this point in the investigation, it doesn't seem like anyone can say it is just. Given how slowly our system moves, it is not fair or just.

Dwayne Johnson's Daughter Makes a Hilarious Observation About Her Dad

One of the undoubtedly many perks of having Dwayne Johnson for a dad? Swim lessons from Maui himself! The Rock’s 2-year-old daughter Jasmine enjoyed a special one-on-one swimming lesson with Johnson over the weekend, and the little girl had some comical feedback for her blockbuster father.

On Saturday, Johnson shared a sweet snapshot of himself holding Jasmine afloat in a pool (we’d be lying if we said we weren’t at least a little jealous). “Great to recharge the batteries this weekend, back home with all my girls and teaching this lil’ tornado how to swim,” Johnson captioned the cute pic.

But during that lesson, Johnson joked that his daughter failed to make an important distinction. “Took my shirt off and she said, ‘Daddy I like it your brown boobies,” he added with a few mixed emotion emoji. “Thank you baby, but daddy has pecs, not boobies. #KickThoseLegs #UseThoseArms #MrBrownBoobs.”

Go on and laugh; it’s OK. You’ll be laughing with him, not at him.

All funny business aside, it’s nice to see Johnson slow down for some well-deserved leisure time. Sometimes hailed as the hardest working man in Hollywood, the actor has stayed busy this summer promoting his latest blockbuster, Skyscraper. He also has an astonishing eleven movies in various stages of production.

If you ask Johnson, though, it’s his family that propels his career. “When Simone was born, I remember looking at her and saying, ‘I’m gonna take care of you for the rest of my life,’” he told People in 2017.

Later that year, he echoed his family-first credence with Variety. “Having a two-year-old and having a 16-year-old, I’m constantly surrounded by beautiful, amazingly strong points of view — including my two-year-old — and the women in my life and my family continue to be my best source of inspiration.”

Meghan Markle's Dad Claims She's 'Terrified' in Another Unauthorized Interview

Once again, Thomas Markle is inserting himself into royal family business. In his second sit-down with The Sun, Meghan Markle's estranged dad claims things aren’t as perfect for the newly-minted Duchess of Sussex as they seem. In fact, Thomas claims that he can tell Meghan is wrought with anxiety and fear.

“My thing about my daughter right now is that I think she is terrified,” he told The Sun. “I see it in her eyes, I see it in her face and I see it in her smile. I’ve seen her smile for years. I know her smile. I don’t like the one I’m seeing now. This one isn’t even a stage smile — this is a pained smile.”

More: Meghan Markle Will Now Be in Charge of One of the Queen's Royal Duties

Thomas essentially describes the royal family as a cult with antiqued practices, lamenting, “Why in 2018 are we dressing like the 1930s? Why do they have to cover their knees?” He added that he feels as though Meghan is under “too much pressure” and that there is “a high price to pay to be married to that family.”

Of course, most people are taking everything Thomas says with a grain of salt these days. Between staging his own paparazzi photos just ahead of the royal wedding to unauthorized (and critical) interviews, Meghan’s dad hasn’t done much to curry favor with fans of the royal family.

Thomas also admits that he has had no recent contact with his daughter. This could make it easy to construe his repeated contact with the press more like a cry for attention than a legitimate concern.

More: Meghan Markle Can't Wait to Be a Mom

“Since the [first] interview, the phone number that I call doesn’t work anymore. The, I guess, liaison with the royal family never answers back, and there’s no address I can write to, so I have no way of contacting my daughter,” he said.

Still, Thomas insists that he simply wants to tell his daughter that he loves her, he misses her and he’s sorry for anything he’s done wrong.

“I want to be a part of their life. I’d like to put our differences behind us, and get together,” he said. As for Harry, Thomas has a more pointed message. “Get over [it],” he told The Sun when asked about his son-in-law. “I’m your new father-in-law. My answer to the royal family is ‘I’m Meghan Markle’s dad, we’re just a family now.”

According to Thomas, he fears he doesn't have much longer to live and wants to make amends while he still has the chance.

More: Meghan Markle Reportedly Hasn't Spoken to Her Dad Since the Wedding

Kensington Palace hasn’t yet commented on Thomas’ latest on-camera interview, and it’s possible they won’t address it at all. Happily, Meghan has plenty of positive things to keep her mind distracted from the near-constant barrage of drama from her dad.

On Saturday, she enjoyed her first solo outing with sister-in-law Kate Middleton when the two attended the Ladies’ Singles Final at the Wimbledon Championships. And although Serena Williams lost, the women made the most of their afternoon together.

Harper’s Bazaar compared the pair’s comradery to that of fellow royals Princess Diana and Sarah, Duchess of York, who embraced the tradition of attending Wimbledon together.

Superfan Yvette Nicole Brown Takes Over Temporarily as Host of The Talking Dead

It’s been a minute since fans of The Walking Dead family have gotten any good news, but here’s a little something to rejoice over — The Talking Dead lives on, and superfan-actress Yvette Nicole Brown will be taking over hosting duties. For now, at least.

AMC confirmed the news in a statement over the weekend (via Variety), saying, “Yvette Nicole Brown will step in as an interim guest host of The Walking Dead Season 9 Preview Special on August 5 and Talking Dead when it returns following the premiere of Fear the Walking Dead on August 12, as we work to complete our assessment related to Chris Hardwick."

More: Finally, the Season 9 Walking Dead Spoiler We Needed

The fate of The Talking Dead has been up in the air since June, when Hardwick’s ex Chloe Dykstra wrote an explosive editorial in Medium about being abused by a former boyfriend. Although Dykstra didn’t specifically name Hardwick, details throughout the piece left little doubt. Hardwick adamantly denies the allegations.

Following swift controversy and calls for Hardwick’s firing, AMC suspended Hardwick’s hosting duties — and, presumably, The Talking Dead.

However, rumors that Brown could be tapped to temporarily take Hardwick’s place began picking up steam quickly. That theory gained even more traction two weeks ago when AMC initially announced that Brown would be taking Hardwick’s place as the moderator for the San Diego Comic-Con panels for The Walking Dead and The Talking Dead.

Brown is a familiar face for fans of the franchise. The Community actress is a frequent guest on The Talking Dead, where the self-professed superfan weighs in always holds her own among Hardwick and stars of TWD.

Choosing Brown as The Talking Dead’s interim host is a smart move on AMC’s part because, honestly, who doesn’t want to hear Brown’s on-point insight every week? Should Hardwick be deemed unable to return to his hosting duties, the network has found a replacement fans should be happy to see slide into the gig fulltime.

These Are the Signs of Depression

We all go through rough patches that leave us feeling sad, frustrated and overwhelmed. The phrase, "I'm really depressed today," has become fairly commonplace, but it typically refers to a mood rather than depression itself. Moods pass, but depression disorders can last a lifetime — and a combination of therapy, medication and social support is typically the key to mitigating the illness's symptoms.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, in 2016, approximately 16.2 million (or 6.7 percent of) American adults experienced a major depressive episode — and women reported higher rates of depression than men (8.5 percent compared to 4.8 percent). Depression is one of the most common mental disorders, so chances are someone you know is grappling with the condition.

If you're wondering what signs and symptoms to look out for, you're not alone. Dr. Arian Elfant, a clinical psychologist based in New Orleans, Louisiana, tells SheKnows that periods of feeling sad are considered a normal and even healthy part of life. "However, persistent feelings of sadness over the course of two weeks or more should be taken seriously," Elfant says.

More: Yes, People Who Are Depressed or Suicidal Can Look Like They "Have It All"

Elfant explains that although symptoms of depression vary depending on the person, there are a number of common signs of depression that should be considered red flags. If you observe any combination of these symptoms in a friend or family member, the best course of action is to consult with a medical provider or someone in the mental health field "to help clarify what's going on and how to best move forward with treatment."

Here are some of the most common signs of depression:

Isolative behavior & withdrawal from previously pleasurable activities

"Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness often result in an individual seeking to be alone rather than spend time with family, friends and colleagues," Elfant says.

In the same vein, it's common for people with depression to have a hard time deriving pleasure from almost anything — including activities that they previously enjoyed. "A sudden change in routine with exercise, dining out or a favorite hobby might be a sign of depression," Elfant says.

Physical symptoms

Our physical and mental health are deeply intertwined, and Elfant explains that "depression can manifest itself through physical symptoms." Examples include joint aches and pain, headaches and digestive issues.

More: 22 Celebs Who've Opened Up About Depression

Irritability

Although this symptom is more common in children than adults, it's still an important one to have on your radar. "Sometimes depression is masked by increasing bouts of impatience and irritability," Elfant says. If you notice this personality change in a loved one, it's certainly worth getting to the bottom of its source.

Concentration problems

"Depression impacts our ability to sustain attention," Elfant says. She notes that individuals with depression tend to fatigue more quickly and lose interest in tasks that were previously engaging to them — so it's no wonder depression can lead to difficulty concentrating.

More: Am I Depressed or Just Sad?

Appetite & sleep changes

Doctor On Demand board-certified adult psychologist Dr. Nikole Benders-Hadi tells SheKnows that changes in appetite and sleep can be signs of depression. "Most people only think of reduced appetite and getting less sleep," Benders-Hadi says. "We can actually see increases in appetite and people wanting to do nothing but sleep with depression as well."

A belief that they're "bad" people

Dr. Reid Kessler, a licensed psychologist based in California, says a lesser-known sign of depression is the individual's belief that they are "bad" and therefore deserve to have bad things happen to them.

"The signs of this badness include beliefs that they are too prideful, selfish, vain, greedy, competitive, angry, lustful or envious," Kessler tells SheKnows. "What surprises people about depression is that the depressed person can often expect bad things to happen to them because they believe they are in fact bad."

Because many people with depression believe they simply aren't good people, it's all the more important to reach out if you suspect someone is dealing with depression. The knowledge that someone has noticed a change in behavior and wants to be supportive can mean the world to a person whose self-worth is on the floor.

"Don't be afraid to ask a friend or family member about their mood," Benders-Hadi advises. "In many cases, they may be feeling very alone and unsupported, so reaching out can help."

If you’re looking for resources for helping a friend or loved one or trying to get information about treatment for yourself, you can turn to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by calling them at 1-800-273-8255.

You've never seen Olivia Colman like this before. Early Monday, Netflix released the first photo of Colman as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown on social media and it will seriously give fans chills.

More: What Netflix's The Crown Gets Right — & Where They Went Rogue

As you can see below, the image features Colman, obviously, as the Queen sitting at a table in what appears to be Buckingham Palace sipping tea. She's also donning Queen Elizabeth's signature hairstyle, while wearing a light pink outfit.

The photo is captioned, "Patience." It's definitely going to be hard for many fans to remain patient for new episodes and to see a brand new cast portraying people first made familiar by Claire Foy, Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby, among many other talented actors and actresses. But, to know season three is moving along and that Colman most certainly looks her part is reassuring.

More: The Crown's Quick Fix to Its Glaring Pay Gap Problem Isn't Enough

This is definitely a huge change for fans, who have become accustomed to watching the amazingly talented Foy play the lead role in the first two seasons of Netflix's original series. As difficult of a transition as it may be for viewers to go from Foy to Colman, there's no denying Colman will do a fantastic job.

It was first announced in October 2017 Colman would take over as the Queen in seasons three and four. She's a fantastic actress, which fans of Broadchurch and The Night Manager (she won a Golden Globe in 2017 for her role) are already well aware of. If fans are worried Colman won't do the part justice, they should give her a chance and rest easy in knowing she will go above and beyond to play the part just as well as Foy.

"I'm so thrilled to be part of The Crown, I was utterly gripped watching it, a proper 'just one more' feeling." Colman said in a statement released in April. "I think Claire Foy is an absolute genius, she's an incredibly hard act to follow, I'm basically going to rewatch every episode and copy her!"

It's been known for awhile now Foy would only be part of the first two seasons and then another actress would swoop in to portray an older Queen. Season three will tell the royal family's story from 1964 to 1976. "I think we all felt Olivia had something that corresponded [to what we wanted], that ability to be both plain and dazzling, and to be both knowable and unknowable," creator Peter Morgan said in February at an evening BAFTA Masterclass in London (via Variety). "And then we rang her up, and she said yes on the phone."

In addition to Colman, Helena Bonham Carter will replace Kirby as Princess Margaret, Ben Williams will take over for Matthew Goode as Antony Armstrong-Jones, and Smith's Prince Philip will now be portrayed by Outlander's Tobias Menzies

Season three, which is slated to premiere in 2019, has a ridiculously strong cast. Who else can't wait to see Colman in the Queen's shoes?

11 Things We Learned From HBO's Robin Williams Documentary

Four years after the sudden death of beloved actor Robin Williams, a new HBO documentary titled Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind is coming out. Focused less on his performances in movies or television and much more on his inner life, Come Inside My Mind is a love letter to Williams, an examination of what he was like when the cameras stopped rolling. It features anecdotes from his lifelong friends, family and colleagues.

More: Everything Coming to HBO in 2018

Many of us were familiar with Williams as an actor, but it's impossible for us to have truly known him. Despite this, however, we can get a little bit closer to understanding him and appreciating him. So, on that note, let's take a look at some new, interesting things we learned about Williams from Come Inside My Mind.

1. He was a very quiet child

Williams states from the beginning of Come Inside My Mind that he felt lonely most of the time, in part because he was raised as an only child (he had two half-brothers, whom he met during his childhood). This feeling of loneliness, as felt by him or perceived by others, would permeate his life.

2. He got his comedy inspiration from his mom

In the documentary, Williams speaks very fondly of his mother as the jokester of the family. He recalls her doing silly physical comedy, like setting out Whoopee cushions where people would sit on them, putting an elastic band up her nose and pulling it out or simply cracking jokes constantly.

3. He compares his time in private school to one of his movies

Williams compares his time going to a private all-boys high school as something similar to Dead Poets Society, implying that in some ways, his formative education helped prepare him for his 1989 role.

4. He began doing impressions in high school

Williams recalls his first time performing or even being funny for people outside his family when he performed in a high school variety show and did an impression of one of his teachers.

5. He took improv classes at college to be near women

Williams went to Claremont Men's College (now known as Claremont McKenna College) for his first year. He later signed up for improv classes as a way to meet women from Pitzer College because they could enroll in these classes, too. But Williams soon fell in love with improv, spending all his time in this art form rather than going to class. His father pulled him out when Williams' grades faltered, sending him to the more local College of Marin.

6. He inadvertently created a new TV standard

Williams' erratic, high-energy performance as Mork on Mork & Mindy frequently resulted in him not hitting his mark. Because of this, combined with union restrictions that did not require cameramen to follow Williams with the camera, showrunner Garry Marshall insisted on hiring a fourth cameraman to catch Williams' delightful performance. This created a new, four-camera standard on television shows that's remained in place to this day.

7. He struggled with addiction for most of his life

The documentary discusses Williams' addiction to cocaine, which began during Mork & Mindy season two, and his subsequent fight to sober up during the early years of his fame, in the late '70s and '80s. Toward the end of the documentary, we learn that Williams also fought to overcome an addiction to alcohol — a chapter in his life he incorporated into his later standup material.

8. Williams was with John Belushi the night he died

Williams' Mork & Mindy costar, Pam Dawber, recalls Williams arriving on set on March 6 and talking about his night at the Chateau Marmont. That night, he was meant to hang out with Robert De Niro, but De Niro was otherwise occupied with a group of women. So, Williams told Dawber, he went down to John Belushi's bungalow and spent the night with him, noting that Belushi looked pretty strung out when he arrived. Belushi ostensibly overdosed after Williams left. Williams didn't find out until the next morning, when Dawber told him about it after Belushi's death made the news.

9. His booming career contributed to the end of his first marriage

"I had this wanderlust and so did she," Williams says in voiceover, alluding the dissolution of his marriage to his first wife, Valerie Velardi. Velardi confirms that the combination of Williams' massive success and the perks of fame pulled him closer into the heart of public life while Velardi yearned to have a quieter life away from Los Angeles.

"Robin and I had drifted apart," Velardi explains. "I wanted out. I no longer wanted this life; that's not what I had signed up for. I wanted Robin and the fun that we had — and then it turned into an industry."

It was an amicable split, as both parties imply, but Velardi makes it clear that Williams' fame added pressure to their marriage.

10. Billy Crystal talks about the one time he saw Williams be truly afraid

Billy Crystal spends most of Come Inside My Mind recalling what a jovial, loving man Williams was over the course of their long friendship and to the world. But at one point, Crystal says that the night Williams quietly told him he had Parkinson's was the first time Crystal had seen the actor look visibly afraid.

11. His ashes were scattered in the San Francisco Bay

After his death, by his request, Williams' ashes were returned to one of the places he loved most: San Francisco.

Take note, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and George and Amal Clooney: There are certain things that are universal to the twin parent experience — and one of them is hearing the same chorus of catchphrases everywhere you go. A few at the top of the laundry list include:

  • "You've got your hands full!"
  • "Two for the price of one!"
  • "Do twins run in your family?"
  • "You’ve got your work cut out for you!"
  • "Are they identical?"

Almost all of the commenters are well-intentioned, and sometimes it can even liven up your day to engage in conversation about your most precious cargo. But there's one particular phrase that I hear almost daily that's got a not-so-fun connotation: "A boy and a girl… you're done!" (Seriously, it can't be overstated how often people say this to parents of opposite-sex twins.)

MoreThe Real Cost of Fertility Treatments & Adoption

I've always found it somewhat baffling that people assume I must be "done" having children simply because I have one boy and one girl. The assumption seems to be that having a child of each gender is the holy grail and that one couldn't possibly want more kids if they manage to hit the reproductive jackpot in this way. What they don't know is that I am done having kids, but not for the reasons they think. I would actually love to expand my family, but my history with infertility makes that virtually impossible.

While the comment can be hurtful, it's rooted in an emergent reality. According to the Pew Research Center, almost half of Americans see two children as the ideal family size, and 41 percent of American mothers now have two children by the end of their childbearing years (the same percentage of mothers in the mid-1970s had given birth to four or more children). So it's easy to see why someone might view a two-child family as "complete" — but why the hyper-focus on gender?

"The concept of balance plays a big part when it comes to the perspective of a 'complete' family," says clinical psychologist Stephanie O’Leary. "From the outside looking in, having a boy and a girl allows parents to experience raising a son and a daughter, thus not missing out on either relationship. There are also cultural factors to consider, with some families valuing one gender over another based on traditional stereotypes."

MoreSecondary Fertility is Real, & It Happened to Me

Reproductive endocrinologist Jane Frederick sees a lot of patients with this mindset at Newport Beach-based clinic HRC Fertility. The clinic is widely considered a trailblazer in the concept of "family balancing," or the practice of gender selection when choosing embryos for transfer. (Though clients are actually choosing the baby's sex—because it's unclear how he or she will identify—the commonly used term in fertility circles is "gender selection.") Frederick estimates that up to 25 percent of her clients seek IVF treatment strictly with the goal of balancing their broods (rather than for its primary purpose of treating infertility). Thanks to the use of increasingly sophisticated preimplantation genetic screening technology, Frederick and her colleagues can guarantee a baby's sex within 99 percent accuracy.

"Gender balancing has gotten more popular in recent years, and with the rise of PGS screening tools, we're seeing more and more options," says Frederick. "I am there to use the technology to get them to completion of their family by making their next pregnancy the gender of their choice. I see it as a win for the community that doesn’t want to have eight pregnancies on board [to get their desired gender], which is a big economic burden. Some couples utilize abortion as a means of balancing their family, and we're trying to prevent that."

While it might seem extreme — or even indulgent — to spend thousands of dollars and put one's body through the rigors of IVF simply to ensure a baby’s sex, many people have what they view as meaningful reasons. "I often encounter women who strive for a family makeup similar to their own family of origin," says O'Leary. "I'm also observing societal trends that lead parents to desire 'one of each' in order to attain what appears to be balance within the family unit. In some ways, there appears to be a fear of missing out if families have children of one gender."

With all this in mind, it's easier to understand why an outsider might assume a mother with one boy and one girl would be "done," but that still doesn't make it OK to say it out loud. For those who've been through infertility, it's an unwanted reminder that they are indeed "done" — but due to reasons beyond their control. Adds O’Leary, "It can be triggering and painful for a parent to hear comments that are flippant and that touch on very personal issues of fertility and family planning. It's also hard to tolerate commentary regarding family size when you might not have options others assume you do based on fertility challenges."

Oklahoma-based mom Kayla Pennington can relate. After struggling with polycystic ovarian syndrome for five years, she now has 3-year-old boy/girl twins and according to her, gets the "You're done!" decree all the time, which is "more painful than all of the negative [pregnancy] tests." Despite their experiences with infertility, Pennington says she and her husband do want to try to have more children and that she wishes "people wouldn’t assume that the American dream is one child of each sex — because, most times, it's not the case at all."

So let's be "done" with the unnecessary observations, shall we? Keep this in mind the next time you see someone pushing a stroller with a boy and a girl, and my own job is done.

Early Signs of Autism Every Parent Should Know

Autism spectrum disorder rates continue to rise. The latest data from the CDC, the most comprehensive surveillance of diagnostic rates in the U.S. to date, reveals that 1 in 59 8-year-olds were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in 2014, up 15 percent from 2012 and up 150 percent from 2000. Naturally, the results triggered much media debate: Do the ever-increasing rates of autism diagnosis reflect the fact that more children are being born with autism or that experts and parents are getting better at recognizing the symptoms?

Whatever the answer, one thing is clear: Many, many families and communities are touched by autism spectrum disorders, and a more inclusive approach needs to be adopted. The human brain is unique, every child is unique, and autism is not a bad thing that warrants a “fix.”

But to ensure every child gets the care and support they need, it helps to be aware of the early signs of autism.

More: Amazing Toys & Gifts for Kids With Autism

Wendela Whitcomb Marsh spent a decade as a school psychologist evaluating infants and toddlers age 18 months to 3 years when autism was suspected to determine eligibility for autism programs. “Although often, children are not tested for autism until they reach preschool- or school-age, there are signs that parents can be aware of in children who are only 1 or 2 years old,” she tells SheKnows.

According to Marsh, these are some early signs of autism to look for.

Lack of interest in faces

Typically, babies are more interested in looking at people’s faces than they are in looking at other objects. If your baby usually avoids looking at you when you are smiling, talking or playing peek-a-boo, this may be an early sign of autism. A child might occasionally prefer looking at an interesting object when you are trying to get their attention, but it should not be the norm for your child to ignore you when you try to interact playfully with them.

Inability to share attention

Most children, even babies, will share attention with another person. This can include responding to joint attention by looking at what you’re interested in or initiating joint attention by showing you something they are interested in. For example, if you turn to look at something across the room and point at it, saying, “Look at that!” does your child follow your gaze or finger to look at what you are trying to show them? If so, they are responding to joint attention. On the other hand, do they look at your finger instead of what you’re pointing at or consistently ignore your overtures altogether? This suggests a limited response to joint attention.

One way you can look for joint attention is by blowing bubbles as a surprise while they are playing without letting them see what you are about to do. When the bubbles float into their view, how do they respond? Are they delighted with the bubbles and ignore the other people in the room? Or do they glance at you or another person, even briefly, as if to share their enjoyment of the surprise bubbles? Usually, but not always, little ones who will later be diagnosed on the autism spectrum are more likely to go straight for the bubbles without referencing another person, while most children seek to bring another person into the experience, at least momentarily, while enjoying the bubbles.

Lack of direct communication

How does your child let you know what they want or need? Do they point at the toy on the top shelf and look back and forth between you and the toy? This is typical nonverbal communication, which most babies use before they can talk. On the other hand, a child with autism might just scream — without looking at anyone or gesturing to indicate what is wrong. Then, parents have to play a guessing game: holding up a toy, a bottle, crackers, etc. until the child stops screaming, which is the only indicator that the parent guessed right and figured out what their child wanted. Children with autism are frequently unable to get their ideas or needs across to other people, either verbally or nonverbally.

Using a parent's hand to communicate

Sometimes a child will take their parent’s hand and pull them toward the kitchen to let them know they are hungry, often while glancing back at the parent. They may pat a parent’s arm or try to turn their parent’s face toward them if they want attention, such as when the parent is using their cell phone. This is not unusual. However, pay attention if your child tries to use your hand as a tool without looking at you. For instance, if they can’t open something, do they pick up your hand and place it on the object without looking at your face? This is seen more often in children with autism than in typically developing children. It is as if they understand that this hand is able to open this thing, so they go directly to the source, the hand, to get the job done.

Avoiding social interaction

When you go to a park, playground or other place where you see other children your child’s age, how does your child respond to seeing other kids? Typically, babies, toddlers and preschool children show a lot of interest in other children. They may want to run over and play with them. They may be shy and watch them from behind their parents or between their fingers. In either case, they definitely notice them or show interest.

On the other hand, many children with autism seem oblivious to other children. They may run over to them, but it is to play near them on the same playground equipment without actually interacting. Many children who are later diagnosed with autism may show appropriate interest in other children at a young age, but as they grow older, this seems to plateau, and they are left behind socially. They continue to interact with others the way preschoolers might and may prefer playing with younger children or adults or much older children, while being unable to respond appropriately to children their own age.

Lack of language

Parents can also pay close attention to their child's language skills to pick up on early signs of autism, licensed psychologist Dr. Crystal I. Lee tells SheKnows. If your child doesn't babble by 12 months, says no clear words by 16 months or says no meaningful, spontaneous two-word phrases by 24 months (not including repeating or imitating phrases), you should consider an assessment.

However, Lee adds that just because your child exhibits these signs, it doesn't necessarily mean they have autism. "These are just behaviors that should prompt you to get testing," she says.

More:  Social Media Gets a Whole Lot Scarier When Your Kid Has Autism

If your child ticks a number of these boxes, Marsh recommends contacting your local county office of education to find out what assessment and early intervention services may be provided for children your child’s age. Your child may be eligible for early intervention as a child at risk for autism before they have a proper diagnosis, and you should take advantage of whatever opportunities are available. Be aware that your child’s doctor may not be able to recognize autism at the well-baby checkup unless the autism is extremely obvious, as they usually don’t have specific training in autism assessment.

Whatever the outcome, try not to view a diagnosis of autism as a tragedy. "Your child is the same adorable, charming, curious, funny, precious little treasure the day after you hear a diagnosis as they were the day before," says Marsh. "You know who your child is, and that has not changed. The purpose of a diagnosis is not to put a ceiling or close a door on what your child may accomplish. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise or warn you against letting your child be 'labeled.'"

A diagnosis of autism might be scary, but it's the first step toward getting your child the support they need to live a fulfilling life on their terms — and the support you need to help them live that life. If your child does have autism, a diagnosis is the best thing that can happen to them.

Mandy Moore Just Released the Best News About...

Mandy Moore isn't just talking about making new music anymore — she's actually recording it. Moore, who first exploded onto the music scene with her debut album So Real in 1999, posted a video on her Instagram on Sunday that shows a soundboard playing back some new music complete with her distinctive earthy vocal stylings.

In the caption on her Instagram post, Moore wrote, "Getting back to it. It's time. I miss it. I'm not scared anymore. No more excuses. No more allowing someone's else [sic] insecurities to dictate my relationship to music and singing. Boom." She continued, "Also- this is just a little demo of something [Mike Viola] and I worked on yesterday... but still, it's a start!"

Billboard reported some key details for fans who've been waiting for new music from Moore. The publication notes that it's been nine years since Moore last released a full-length album. Her sixth and most recent LP, Amanda Leigh, came out in 2009. That means that for nearly a decade, Moore has focused her attention on developing an acting career, stepping away from recording any major body of new music that wasn't featured in film or on television.

After her divorce from Ryan Adams was finalized in 2016, Moore spoke to E! News about her career and why she had put music on hold: "I think life sort of put it on the backburner," she said. "Acting and being in film, trying to do television, has always been a huge priority and it was the thing that—the ball was rolling the most. Even though I started in music, I feel like it continued to give me way more opportunities than music did. Now that I feel like this part of my life is percolating and up and running again, it'll allow me creatively to focus back on the music."

Moore added, "I've been writing for the last seven years since I put out a record, so I have a trough of music to choose from. I also feel like a lot has happened in the last two years of my life that I want to be able to put into music and it'll be cathartic."

Moore's Instagram clip features her singing the lyric "Don't underestimate," which falls in line with the message of her caption and the overall trajectory of her career. As one of the younger pop singers to emerge in the late '90s and one of the first to make the crossover into acting, before Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake, Moore has always been a bit of an underdog when it comes to superstardom. However, her career has been long-lasting, and it's earned her plenty of recognition, which she so deserves.

We can't wait to hear what Moore has in store for the next step in her music career.

12 Ways to Detox Your Home

$

You've probably heard about detoxing your body (which we're not convinced is such a good idea), but have you ever wished you could detox your home? We spend so much time there, but it often becomes a dumping ground of clutter and chemicals. It can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to making your home space healthier and more positive. We found a few tasks to move to the top of your to-do list if you want to detox your home. They're going to make a big difference.

1. Clean your upholstery

How long has it been since your couch got a nice deep clean? It’s probably been a while. Take the time to find an upholstery-cleaning method that works for you, whether it’s hiring a professional (who hopefully uses green practices), sudsing up yourself or trying that baking soda couch cleaning hack that took the internet by storm. Whatever you decide, we promise that nothing makes a room feel fresh quite like a clean couch.

2. Switch to green cleaning products

You’ve probably been hearing this advice for years, and, well, there’s no time like the present. That’s especially true because if you don’t feel like putting together your own DIY vinegar spray, there are tons of green cleaning products on the market these days. It’s as simple as putting something new in your cart the next time you’re at the store.

3. Decorate with houseplants

An inexpensive game-changer, houseplants add a whole lot of warmth and freshness to a room. Check your local hardware store or nursery. Go small if you have a black thumb like me, and take a peek at the best houseplants for improving air quality

4. Dust

Another cleaning habit that tends to fall down to the bottom of our to-do list, dusting is important for making surfaces look shiny and new again (seriously, it’s the secret extra touch to making a room look nice) but it’s also key to keeping the air clean and fresh-smelling.

5. Declutter

You may not think of clutter as toxic, but as it turns out, it could be stressing us out a lot. UCLA's Center of Everyday Lives and Families did a study in 2012 in which participants — particularly mothers — showed higher levels of cortisol in cluttered spaces. But we probably didn’t need to tell you that. Set aside a few hours and go through the closet that’s been spinning out of control.

6. Change your AC/heating air filters

Just like flat spaces collect dust, your AC and/or heating consoles collect dust on their filters too, which means rather than blowing fresh air into the room, they’re blowing particulates that make rooms feel stuffy. If you’re not sure when the last time you swapped your filter is, do it now, and then put a reminder to replace it based on the manufacturer’s recommendations.

7. Swap plastic for glass

There’s no doubt that plastic has been a life-changing and even lifesaving invention for modern humans. It’s also infiltrated its way into every part of our lives and has a questionable effect on our health, particularly when we’re using it to store or heat food. Consider swapping your plastic storage containers out for a glassware alternative.

8. Switch to stainless steel

Still using Teflon? It’s hard to give up since it’s so easy to clean — but if yours is getting chipped or scratched, it’s time to replace it. Stainless steel is a good option, or you could give ceramic nonstick pans a shot. Just be on the lookout for harmful chemicals like polytetrafluoroethylene.

9.  Try essential oils

Freshen up your air by using a diffuser and essential oils. In a 1996 study by the Regional Medical Research Centre in Bhubaneswar, India, lemongrass, eucalyptus, peppermint and orange oils were effective against 22 different types of bacterial strains. That oil wasn’t being diffused into the air, but hey, it’s worth giving a shot.

10. Paint with eco-paints

Wanting to redecorate? Opt for eco-paints. There isn’t currently a cut-and-dried definition of what standards eco-paints must meet, so you’ll need to do your own research. But there are several available that are just as vibrant and gorgeous as typical paint but with fewer of the chemicals you don’t want, like formaldehyde, heavy metals and volatile organic compounds.

11. Swap your sheets for an organic set

Time for a new pair of sheets? Invest in an organic cotton or hemp set, which means the sheets have been grown and processed without chemicals and typically have a lower carbon footprint than nonorganic sheets

12. Clean out your pantry

We’re all guilty of letting our pantry fill up with endless amounts of pasta, spices and canned goods we never use. Clean out your pantry, donate your unexpired foods to a local food bank, and marvel at all the space you’ve just created for future nourishing goods.

Blake Shelton Reacts to Fans Criticizing His Recent Drunk Performance

Blake Shelton probably could have handled this fan interaction with a bit more grace. Hollywood Life reports that the country singer tripped on stage and fell at a performance in Oregon over the weekend. Afterward, he put out a call on Twitter on Sunday asking if anyone had footage of the incident. In the same tweet, he admitted that he'd been drinking "a lot" before hitting the stage, which didn't sit well with some.

Several fans defended Blake for the fall, saying that anyone might have done the same if they were walking backward and not paying attention, as he seems to be in the video. Others expressed concern over his glib admission. "I thought you quit drinking when you started dating Gwen," wrote one fan. When someone asked what made them think that, they said, "He made that statement in an interview about her saving his life and that he had given it up, at least for a while." The interaction continued with this person expressing their concern even further.

"It scares me to see talented people and their life get mixed up in alcohol or drugs," they wrote. "I don't even want to go to concerts anymore since Prince died. I feel like if I'm just helping them financially to kill themselves slowly. after all if they didn't have us fans what would they [do?]"

Inquisitr reported in 2017 that Gwen Stefani, Shelton's partner of several years, asked him to quit drinking in order to lose weight for their wedding day — though there's been no official engagement announcement. The outlet, as well as others, report that Shelton is still drinking despite Stefani allegedly not wanting him to partake in imbibing alcohol. No matter how she feels about it, Shelton is apparently unconcerned with what anyone — even his fans — think of him or his drinking habits.

When one fan replied to his admission with a reprimand, Shelton clapped back. "So, that's the type of quality show you put on,...for people that spend their hard earned money to come see you, is for you to show up drunk?" the fan wrote. "That's some Justin Bieber on Hennessy, throwing up on stage, nonsense right there!"

Shelton quote-tweeted the reply and wrote, "Oh I'm sorry ma'am... This account is meant for people who actually have a sense of humor.. We're not accepting cry baby tweets today.. Maybe try again tomorrow!"

This certainly isn't the first time Shelton has clapped back at fans on Twitter — who hasn't? — but that doesn't mean the snark was necessary. He tweets frequently about drinking to celebrate, including as recently as the Fourth of July, so his admission shouldn't come as a surprise. However, fans still have the right to express their feelings.

Dwayne Johnson may be known as The Rock, but he's a serious softie when it comes to his three daughters. On Saturday, he shared a photo on Instagram of himself and his middle daughter, Jasmine, 2, enjoying some pool time. Her take on her dad's dad bod is pretty much priceless.

"Great to recharge the batteries this weekend, back home with all my girls and teaching this lil' tornado how to swim," Johnson wrote. "I'll handle this business," he wrote with a winking emoji and a strong-arm emoji. Mama... has her hands full nursing/feeding Baby Tia, so I'm feedin' mama her dinner. My pleasure. How Suits Is Moving On Without Meghan Markle in Season 8

Suits is coming back for season eight on Wednesday, and there's a lot to get excited about. But, for longtime viewers, one crucial actor will be gone for good: Meghan Markle. Originating the role of Rachel Zane, a self-assured, confident, capable legal eagle, Markle was a central cast member on Suits from the first season. This was a role she excelled in and one that came after building a career of supporting roles; she'd made it. Then she met Prince Harry.

More: This Is How Katherine Heigl Landed Her Role on Suits

Now, she's married into the British royal family, has a new title — the Duchess of Sussex — and is officially done with Suits (even though she still misses it a little bit). So, how will the show on which she played such a central role move on without her? Let's take a look and find out.

Katherine Heigl is joining the team

After a string of television hits and misses, Katherine Heigl is making a big comeback with Suits. She'll be playing Samantha Wheeler, a tough-as-nails lawyer who joins the firm but will find herself regularly squaring off against Harvey.

Heigl, who sounded very happy to be joining the Suits team, spoke to Us Weekly about her new gig: "I was drawn to the show and am kind of a crazy fangirl, so I reached out to creator Aaron Korsch to talk about possibly collaborating on some of my projects I have in development, not knowing at the time they were going to do an eighth season of Suits. I casually, or not so casually, asked if he needed a tall blonde for season eight. Thankfully he took the bait and here I am, playing one of the most interesting and badass women I’ve had the opportunity to play."

You'll be seeing a lot more of Katrina

On July 5, TV Line reported that actor Amanda Schull, who plays Katrina Bennett on the show, will be upped from a supporting role to a series regular. Fans of the show can expect her relationship with Donna — as mentor/mentee and as friends — to grow exponentially in season eight. This will be especially interesting for those who know that Donna and Rachel were thick as thieves. Will Donna be looking to fill that open spot in her life?

Rachel and Mike's big goodbye takes place on a special day

The Suits season eight premiere will take place at Rachel and Mike's wedding, and it will serve as the official goodbye for two of the show's original characters before they move to Seattle. That big move will effectively be the end of Rachel and Mike's story. However, we don't know if Rachel or Mike (played by Patrick J. Adams) will actually be seen during the premiere.

Donna and Harvey are going to have a tough time

Losing Mike and Rachel is, as series regular Sarah Rafferty noted in a USA Network teaser video about season eight, going to be very hard for Harvey and Donna. Both Harvey and Donna were friends and mentors to the young couple. Filling that absence is going to be part of each character's emotional arc during the coming season.

Expect more comedy when Louis is on-screen

In the same USA Network teaser video, actor Rick Hoffman remarks that Louis is going to be delivering a lot of the comic relief. Not gonna lie: We'll need a little levity with a Rachel Zane-sized hole in our Suits-loving hearts. We'll also see his relationship to Katrina take some interesting twists and turns — keep an eye on that.

If you are excited about the upcoming Charlie's Angels reboot, you aren't alone. Drew Barrymore, who starred as Dylan Sanders in the 2000 film and the 2003 sequel, not only approves of another reboot — she's actually excited for it.

More: We Really Hope This Is the New Charlie's Angels Cast Because It's So Good

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Barrymore opened up about her close friendship with Cameron Diaz, with whom she costarred in both Charlie's Angels movies, and talked about the planned reboot.

"I'm just excited for them," Barrymore said. "Because every generation that brings Charlie's Angels out into the world is about the power of three women and what they can do, while loving men and wanting to date them or working side by side with them. But there's just something about Charlie's Angels that make men and women so happy."

She added, "And it's so positive. So if they keep that alive in this new iteration, it's just going to be great."

On her relationship with Diaz, Barrymore said, "[S]he's my sister. We have much more of that kind of relationship, we're very honest with each other. We push each other. And we've had the majority of our lives spent side by side, really going through what real life is, which is an everyday high and low and we just have each other's backs."

ET previously reported that Elizabeth Banks is set to direct with Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong'o rumored to star, but nothing has been confirmed yet. In an interview with the outlet about the reboot, Banks said she wasn't keen to star because of the physical demands. She also explained why the reboot has taken so long to get on its feet, commenting, "I want to do right by the franchise and by the women that we involve and I want to say something to people and I want the movie to matter," Banks said.

All we know is that we can't wait to see the new Charlie's Angels, especially since so many amazing women are working on the project and there's at least one franchise alum giving it so much support.

Tennis legend Serena Williams offered up a beautiful message to other mothers after her Wimbledon loss in a postgame interview: "I was playing out there for you today..."

An emotional Williams spoke after her defeat and told mothers that they can still achieve great things after having a child and not to give up on career goals. "It was obviously disappointing but I can't be disappointed. I have so much to look forward to. You know, I'm literally just getting started, so, you know, I'm looking forward to it," Williams said. She shrugged off the label of "supermom," saying she was "just me."

Williams continued in the postgame interview, "To all the moms out there, I was playing out there for you today, and I tried... I look forward to continuing to be back out here and do what I do best."

The tennis star was a single victory away from matching tennis icon Margaret Court's record: 24 Grand Slams. This was only Williams' fourth tournament since her daughter, Alexis Olympia, was born in September, with complications and surgery necessary for Williams following the birth.

Williams posted an inspiring, warm message on Instagram to her fans.

"These past 2 weeks was amazing. It also was a sound for all moms stay home and working you can do it you really can! I’m not any better or diff than any of you all. Your support has meant so much to me. Let’s keep making noise everyday in everything we do. I’ll be back (and soon too)."

At a press conference after her defeat by Angelique Kerber, Williams talked about how her priorities have shifted since Olympia was born. "Like, my priority is my baby," she said. "You know, just being with her and doing things with her and spending time with her — it's totally my priority. But it's weird; I set my schedule so I have time. Like, I train in the morning and I spend the rest of the day with her, so I don't get to be with her the full day, but a pretty good chunk out of the day."

She continued at the press conference, "I just feel like to tell all the moms, like, I had such a long struggle to come back, and it was really difficult, and honestly, I feel like if I can do it, they can do it. I'm just that person, that person, that vessel that's saying, 'You can be whatever you want to be if you want to go back to work.' And to me, after becoming a mom, I feel like there's no pressure to do that because having a child is a completely full-time job but those that do want to go back, you know, you can just do it. You can really do it."

At our SheKnows BlogHer '17 conference, Williams spoke to attendees to explain how her own mother had served as her role model: "My mom has always been so strong for me. She's been the woman that is just literally unbreakable. It’s something I've always looked up to and I think all my sisters look up to. So, in the midst of having a child, all of a sudden you start to think of lessons your parents taught you, especially my mom... I feel like all those lessons that she taught me of being so strong, of being proud of who I am, of being able to look anyone in the face and have confidence and speak with so much confidence is something I really have been able to embrace, and I would love to teach my kid that.”

Williams has proven time and time again — on and off the court — that she is a champion through and through. And Olympia is one lucky baby to come from that kind of strength.

P.S. We're pretty sure her mom is going to break plenty more records.
