A New Elizabeth Taylor Doc Is Happening, & It Will Focus on the Good Stuff

Elizabeth Taylor is one Hollywood icon who has fascinated us for decades. Although she sadly passed on in 2011, her memory and legacy live on, begging those of us who are forever intrigued by her to revisit her life again and again.

It would seem that we're not the only ones who are still fascinated with Taylor all these years later. According to Page Six, a new docuseries has been commissioned about Taylor's life. The series doesn't have a premiere date yet, nor do we know where it will be shown (a streaming service? on a cable network? Your guess is as good as ours) but we do know that the series will take a more positive, thoughtful look at Taylor's life. Namely, the series will focus on her life as an activist for various political causes, her charity work and her role as a boundary breaker for women in Hollywood during the Golden Age of film and beyond.

"The aim is to make the definitive look at the iconic Elizabeth Taylor as one of the originators of our contemporary concept of celebrity," Page Six reports, "as a trailblazer for women working in Hollywood, and for the way she used her elevated status to forge frontiers in her activism and charitable work. The film will also examine Taylor’s role in the lives of her family and friends, in addition to her roles onscreen."

Elizabeth Taylor Yes GIF

Always an outspoken, ferocious, loving person, Taylor committed her life to a number of liberal-leaning causes and movements during her life. She is perhaps best remembered for her work raising awareness and fighting to cure the HIV/AIDS crisis that swept through the U.S. in the 1980s. She was also very supportive of the Zionist movement after converting to Judaism in 1959.

Add to this a body of work filled with roles that allowed Taylor to push buttons, trounce all over archaic notions of how a woman should think, speak and act and let her break the glass ceiling wherever she could, as there's undoubtedly a lot for this docuseries to focus on.

We're curious to see how this docuseries develops, if only because it means we'll get to spend a little more time with the always-amazing Elizabeth Taylor.

This Queer Eye Season 2 Music Video Is the Best Thing You'll See All Week

Confession: we've been obsessed with the Queer Eye reboot since it first premiered on Netflix in February. Thankfully, the show was such a hit and quickly became such a cultural touchstone that it not only got renewed for Season 2 shortly after Season 1 premiered but the Season 2 premiere date was set for an extremely-soon June 15.

More: Queer Eye Is Back for Pride, & It's Featuring Its First Trans Hero

Now, ahead of the Season 2 premiere and right at the beginning of Pride Month, the Queer Eye gang has teamed up with contemporary pop star Betty Who and released a remixed version and music video of the reboot's theme song, "All Things." The song, already a remix of the original which was created in the '90s by Canadian dance music duo Widelife, gets updated yet again with Betty Who's cover which is just as fun and bright as the original but with a more modern arrangement.

Queer Eye S2 Remix Video

Queer Eye S2 Remix Video

The music video, on the other hand, is literal art. Clocking in at around 2 minutes and 10 seconds, this video features the Fab Five dancing, laughing, voguing and generally having the best time ever. The fellas are doing their best choreography (seriously, when are they starting a boy band? Because that needs to happen) as well as breaking off to have solo moments that riff on their roles on the show. At various points we see: Jonathan Van Ness looks so fierce as he wields a blow-dryer; Karamo Brown is surrounded by boxes of tissues and dabs his eye playfully; Tan France gives his coif a little lift as he sports a fierce, shiny sports jacket; Antoni Porowski cradles a bunch of avocados as he struts down the runway; and last but not least, Bobby Berk gives the Fab Five truck a bedazzled makeover, complete with a new license plate.

Is this real life? Surely not — it must be heaven.

Queer Eye Can You Believe GIF

Queer Eye Season 2 (which was filmed shortly after Season 1, hence why the episodes are ready to air so quickly) is going to see some notable differences from first season and it's all about the contestants. While Season 1 focused mostly on straight and queer men of varying ages, races, socioeconomic brackets and locations around Georgia, Season 2 will see the Fab Five expanding their reach. This time around, straight and queer men and women will be part of the show and, happily, the series will feature its first trans person as the subject of one makeover episode.

With all of this Queer Eye excitement happening (and on a Friday, no less!), we are readier than ever for June 15 to arrive, bringing Season 2 with it.

Mick Jagger Discovers Instagram Comments, Is Basically a Comedian Now

We need to find joy wherever we can get it these days; as of Friday, it looks like that source of joy is coming straight from Mick Jagger's Instagram account. Jagger may be busy touring these days with The Rolling Stones (maybe you've heard of them?) but that doesn't mean he's not able to leave a funny comment or two on one of his sons' Instagram accounts — and we can't get enough of it.

Earlier this week, Twitter user @dpatrickrodgers posted a photo collage onto his Twitter account with the caption, "My new favorite thing is Mick Jagger leaving dorky dad comments on his teenage son's Instagram posts" and he's not wrong; these Instagram comments are actually pretty darn great.

The photos in the collage were all taken from the Instagram account of Jagger's son, Lucas Jagger. In one photo, the 19-year-old is kicking back at what looks to be a music festival; in another, he's staring pensively out into the sunset; in yet another, he's walking by the ocean; and in the final one, he's hanging out with friends.

Papa Jagger clearly saw a great opportunity to hop into his son's comments and let loose with some cheeky comments. To his music festival photo, he wrote, "Looks like fun. Ha!" and for Lucas' seaside photo, he deadpanned, "Watch out for the water." Oh, Mick, what are we going to do with you? Then again, these comments are so great that we're hoping someone else unearths even more so that we can just keep taking them in.

Jagger shares custody of Lucas with his former partner, Luciana Gimenez. Lucas is one of eight children that carry on the Jagger name, with his eldest sibling being Karis Hunt Jagger (born in 1970) and his youngest sibling being Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger (born in 2016).

It's cute seeing Jagger still staying connected to his son in whatever way possible. With a hectic work schedule and the two men moving in different circles these days, it's lucky Instagram is around so that they can keep in touch — and we can laugh when the hijinks ensue.

How Sex Work Taught Me to Love My Body

$

0

I’d always secretly wanted to be a sex worker. I just didn’t think I could actually do it. While most people who say this are squeamish about the idea of paid sex with strangers, what I actually meant was, “I don’t think anyone would want to pay to have sex with me.”

My self-esteem wasn’t as bad as it sounds. I’d found my niche in the queer community where I felt hot and sexy and desirable. I just didn’t see myself as having the kind of body that straight men — normal dudes out there in the world — would be willing to cough up for. I had hairy underarms, hairy legs and a completely untouched pubic bush. The hair on my head, however, was cropped short and partly shaved, done at home using pube-clippers (which never got any other use). My arms were tattooed. I rarely wore makeup, and when I did, I had no real idea how to apply it. And I wasn’t exactly fat, but I certainly didn’t have a flat stomach or toned calves or a long, lean runner's body. I wasn’t a clear candidate for the glamorous sex worker image I’d conjured up in my head.

More: This Is Why I Decided to Become a Sex Worker

When I did finally bite the bullet and take it up, it was because a woman I was seeing, who also happened to be a sex worker, suggested it. She was a total babe, but not stereotypically so. "If she can do it so can I," I reasoned.

My lesson in body image started with my very first client. He was looking for someone curvy and hairy. And to my surprise, I wasn’t curvy or hairy enough. He reluctantly agreed to see me, but only because he hadn’t been able to find anyone else fatter or hairier than me.

I saw several other private clients, all of whom didn’t bat an eyelash at any of the things I’d been concerned about. From there I moved on to working in parlors. During my first phone interview, I nervously whispered to the receptionist that I… ah… didn’t really shave… anywhere… which she interrupted with, “Oh honey, we don’t care. Just channel your inner goddess and they’ll love you.”

And she was right. On good nights at the brothel, when I was feeling sassy and cheeky and confident, I would have client after client lining up to see me back-to-back through my shift. On bad nights, when I was tired or distracted by things happening in my personal life, I would sit in the corner for my whole shift without getting a single booking. They say that confidence is your biggest asset, and it’s true. Confidence is sexy. Humor is sexy. And in my industry, sex sells.

At one place, I often worked the quiet shifts with just one other worker, a French woman in her mid-60s. It was impossible to predict who would get chosen between the two of us. Much to my surprise, it was not uncommon for hot young men to come in and choose her over me. She was gorgeous, sure, and she had a sexy accent, but she also had something I didn’t have — maturity, and lots of sexual experience.

At another parlor, I worked with a young woman who was a real tomboy, even in a short skirt. Another misconception I had was that straight men only want the girly-girls, and sure, for many, this is true. But a lot also liked this worker with her tough, boyish looks.

This is not to say that there weren’t the clients who favored more traditional ideas of beauty — the workers with long blond hair, slender bodies, perky breasts and lots of makeup. The workers who fit this stereotype generally got the most business, this is true. However, there were also many, many clients who were looking for someone just like me, and there were also many clients who turned me down because I wasn’t fat/hairy/old enough for their tastes.

More: A Legal Sex Worker on What It's Really Like to Work in a Brothel

I was lucky enough to work in brothels where they didn’t police your clothing or makeup or choice of shoes and where a wide variety of body types were welcomed. Many establishments are not like this, and I want to acknowledge that the sex work industry does definitely appear to favor people with certain body types and looks.

But what sex work did teach me is that everyone has a type, and it’s not as homogenous as you’d think. You are someone’s type. I am someone’s type. And we are beautiful just the way we are.

20 Snow Cone Flavors You'll Want to Try This Summer

One of the best ways to cool off on a hot summer day is indulging in an icy treat: the snow cone. What simple treats they are — so simple, in fact, they're incredibly easy to make right at home.

Really, all you need is some shaved iced and flavored syrups, and you're set! But let's take it step by step... first up, the ice.

Snow cone ice

If you're up for some DIY that also lets you get out some aggression, wrap ice in a clean dish towel, stuff it into a large freezer bag (so no chips get away), and beat the living daylights out of it with a rolling pin or the flat side of a meat tenderizer (or just grab a hammer from the garage, and wrap the tip in foil — as long as the dirty part doesn't touch anything you plan to eat or eat with).

Or, simply throw the cubes into a blender, and crush them that way. Of course, there are also plenty of snow cone machines you can buy at varying price points if you prefer something specialized.

Snow cone syrup

Making the syrup is just as easy. Do you have water, sugar and flavored drink mix (such as Kool-Aid) at home? That's all you need. To make about a cup of syrup, stir a cup of sugar and a packet of drink mix into a cup of water, and bring it to a boil over medium heat until everything is dissolved. Remove it from the heat, and after it's cool, funnel it into a squeeze bottle or a bottle rigged with a bar spill-stop.

Put the ice into little cups, pour the syrup over until the ice is saturated, and enjoy. Of course, you can also buy flavored syrups from places like Hawaiian Shaved Ice and Amazon, where you can also buy other snow cone-making supplies.

The best flavor combos

Whether you make your own or buy them online, we have 20 flavor combos below for you to try out. One tip before you start: Mix the flavors together before adding them to the snow cone. As for the cream flavors you'll find below, those should be refrigerated before use.

That's it — now go make a snow cone already!

Katy Perry Sent Orlando Bloom a Very Personal (& Public) Request

Katy Perry got an awkward reminder on Thursday that she's got to be extra careful about knowing what she is posting and where she's posting it when it comes to social media. You see, on Thursday, Perry's on-again boyfriend, Orlando Bloom, took to his Instagram to post a teaser trailer for the new play he's starring in, Killer Joe. For Perry, this must have seemed like the perfect opportunity to publicly support her fella. But what began as a casually posted comment ended up becoming an awkward, TMI moment for the singer.

The video of Bloom and his fellow Killer Joe cast — complete with the caption "When #life comes undone" — is a fairly standard teaser trailer. It's grim, brooding, atmospheric and admittedly, Bloom looks pretty damn attractive in it. It's easy to see why Perry would be excited to comment on it and make get a little saucy with said comment, too.

But what Perry accidentally ended up writing was both pretty sexy and also hilarious, given the fact that it ended up as a public, not private, comment. We managed to grab screenshots of Perry's initial comment and follow-up explanation, so please, bask in all their glory.

Perry's initial reaction to the Killer Joe teaser trailer got right to the point: "I need a season pass for that ass." Whoa, slow down, sis.

Perry's follow-up, which came about a day after the initial comment (when she was undoubtedly alerted by a fan or friend about her gaffe) and simply read, "Oops, I meant to send that to you privately," adding in a shrugging emoji to express her embarrassment.

Katy Perry Season Pass Slide 2

Perry accidentally fell prey to one of the biggest hiccups that comes with being a social media user: accidentally making something meant for a private conversation public. But who amongst us hasn't made this mistake before? And sure, we might not have been asking to be accidentally included in Perry's sexy request for Bloom, but it's kinda cute to see that they're going strong and not afraid to show some PDA.

Both Perry and Bloom are balancing a lot as they make their rekindled romance work for them right now. In addition to getting back into the groove after making their relationship public, Perry is also taking her latest album, Witness, on a world tour while fulfilling judging duties on American Idol. As for Bloom, he's starring in Killer Joe in London through August 2018 and he'll be finishing up filming on his upcoming TV series, Carnival Row, which is set to premiere in 2019.

Naming a Baby Boy? These 25 Classics Have the Best Nicknames

Here's a baby-naming hack for ya: Pick the nickname first. Skip the agonizing over meanings and whether there's too much (or too little) assonance or alliteration between that multisyllabic first name and your last name. Instead, skip straight to the day-to-day: What name do you want to exclaim when your kid starts walking? What do you want to shout up the stairs to your pesky oversleeping teen? Chances are, it's not "Bartholomew." Choosing an adorable nickname for your baby boy and then matching it to its longer or more formal version might just be the thing to whittle down your name list.

We've rounded up a bunch of classic baby boy names you might have already overlooked — but you'll want to take a second glance once you hear the amazing nicknames that accompany them. Sure, you might just end up calling your kid "Buddy" or "Lil' Guy" anyway, but having a real nickname on hand can't hurt.

Baby boy names with the best nicknames

  • Alfred: The full name sounds formal, but Alfie is adorable.
  • Angus: You don't have to settle for August or Augustus if you have your heart set on the nickname Gus.
  • Asher or Ashton: These are two great ways to get the handsome Ash.
  • Baxter: Everyone is looking for a long form of Max, but we love Bax as an alternative.
  • Beckett: Fans use Becks as a nickname for David Beckham, but it works just as well on Beckett.
  • Benjamin: You probably knew a lot of Bens in high school, but did you know anyone who went by Benji?
  • Calvin: This presidential throwback gives the suave diminutive Cal. Try Callum if you'd prefer a trendier first name.
  • Cyrus: This name works great as is, but Cy is short, sweet and strong.
  • Dashiell: You won't find a better nickname than Dash for a rambunctious toddler.
  • David: Like Ben, Daves are everywhere. For your wee newborn boy, try out the winsome Davy.
  • Dexter: Maybe the TV show serial killer association will fade if you call him Dex?
  • Ezekiel: The amiable nickname Zeke sells both this and unusual biblical boy name Hezekiah.
  • Fitzgerald: It's a mouthful, but Fitz sounds fetching at every age.
  • Howard: We can't decide whether Howie or Ward is more charming.
  • Isaac: We like Ike. (Sorry.)

  • Jeremy: If you need a long form for Remy, we prefer this traditional baby boy name to Remington.
  • Julius: Though girls use it, too, Jules is also great for a little boy.
  • Montgomery: Monty? Come on. Perfection.
  • Oliver: He'll likely want to use the full name as an adult, but Ollie suits the preschool years so well.
  • Phillip: Don't see dad-name Phil and move on; try out the Dickensian Pip instead.
  • Thaddeus: We adore this Greek long form of Tad.
  • Truman: Whether you prefer the president or the author (or the Jim Carrey movie — we don't judge), you can call him Tru for short.
  • Vincent: Plenty of adult men still go by Vinnie, but we like Vin even more.
  • William: Surprise people with the enchanting nickname Wim, rather than the more tired Will or Billy.

10 Ways to Keep Dogs Out of Your Flower Beds

When dogs aren't busy being man's best friend, they're out in the backyard digging up your prized flower bed with a shifty expression on their face. Luckily for you, this is a common problem, so there are plenty of tips and tricks littered across the internet to help you out. In fact, we've rounded up 10 easy, simple fixes to keep your pooch out of your garden.

From other gardeners and pet owners who have been there and done that, these handy tricks have been proven to keep curious pups away from flower beds.

1. Address the real problem

Puppy digging near tree

Snowdog Guru provides helpful advice for larger breeds, like huskies, that are especially prone to digging: troubleshoot. Your dog could be digging for any number of reasons — to beat the heat, to find pests or due to boredom. Observe your dog to find out the underlying cause of nonstop digging, and maybe you won't need steps 2 through 10.

2. Build an adorable fence

If you have always been looking for an excuse to build a cutesy picket fence, here it is: Better Homes and Gardens recommends protecting flower beds with a low picket fence as a visual and physical barrier for dogs.

3. Bury balloons

Dog digging GIF

This tip seems a touch drastic, but it was once endorsed by the Louisiana SPCA: "Blow up some balloons and bury them in the area your dog likes to dig. When he strikes a balloon, the noise of it popping startles your dog. In some cases, the negative association this produces is enough to stop your dog from digging in the future."

4. Construct a moat

Pinecone moat

A makeshift garden moat made with pinecone bedding is clever, crafty and quite uncomfortable for dogs' sensitive paws.

5. Make a dig pit

Could it be that your dog is digging because he just wants to dig? The Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them blog urges gardeners to embrace the digging and section off a special backyard dig pit where your pooch can dig to his heart's content.

6. Prune strategically

Every rose has its thorn, and every dog will think twice about stepping in a flowerbed strewn with thorny rosebush clippings.

7. Spice things up

Canines do not like things muy caliente. Discourage your dog from digging in your garden by sprinkling equal parts crushed red pepper and powdered mustard around the perimeter.

8. Stink up the joint

Dog smelling something bad GIF

Gardening Guides reveals that, like humans, dogs can't stand the smell of ammonia. A "stink bomb" made from ammonia poured into coffee filters will create an invisible fence around your beautiful begonias.

9. Supervise backyard time

This Redditor's anti-digging tip may be obvious, but it just makes sense: "I'd stop letting him go outside without supervision. That way, you can stop the digging preferably right before it happens with redirection."

When all else fails, it's time to play some Cesar Millan Jedi mind tricks on your pup. Your dog may be excavating your garden because of a simple need for exercise and stimulation. Walk your dog at least twice a day to deplete boundless energy reserves and make flower beds less tempting.

5 Products We Discovered After Test-Driving Pinterest’s New Inclusive Beauty Feature

$

According to a Pinterest study, a whopping 70 percent of people use the site to discover and save everyday looks and styles, and of all the pins that exist, 8 billion of them are hair- and beauty-related. That’s both a gift and a curse. The gift: It’s a never-ending hub of inspiration in all forms, from ways to decorate your first apartment to vintage makeup looks worth recreating. The curse: That’s a hell of a lot of inspo to sift through, even if you’ve got the time to spare. And when you’re searching for something makeup-specific, it can be extremely difficult to find what works for your skin tone without having to scroll endlessly.

More: Why Aussie Beauty Brands Should Be on Your Radar

That’s really been the site’s biggest roadblock; as its popularity continues to grow, so does the need to modify search criteria. In fact, it’s a nonnegotiable for anyone with a short attention span and busy schedule. Thankfully, Pinterest pays close attention to what pinners actually want and finally gifted us with a game-changing search tool. Now, whenever you search for products or tutorials, the site automatically asks if you want to narrow down your search by skin tone. The best part is the feature is impossibly easy to use.

Simply do a beauty-related search, and at the top of the results page and under the search bar, you’ll see “Pick a skin tone range to narrow your search” next to four color wheels that represent light, medium, dark and deep. After clicking on one of those, your search results are narrowed down even more.

Pinterest’s New Inclusive Beauty Feature: Skin tone search

Now, we’re not saying this new feature is perfection. As we all know, the number of skin tones far exceeds these four options, and the results are still wide-ranging. Also, if you’re looking for product recommendations, you’ll have the most luck searching the more basic options, such as “lipstick,” “foundation” or “concealer.” We found that as we searched more niche categories, such as “under-eye concealer” and even “sunscreens,” the skin tone bar didn’t show up at all or the options were extremely limited.

Still, we consider this a step in the right direction. Though we sometimes worry that this drive toward inclusivity is just a trend for big companies, we’re glad to see Pinterest joining the movement in an impactful way and hope that over time, this tool will be refined and improved upon. Until then, we’ll be test-driving it. If you’re curious as to whether it delivers or not, here are five products for “dark” skin that we found on the first page of every search.

Can't Find Emergency Contraception on Pharmacy Shelves? Here's Why

$
0

Erin Matson was buying diapers for her infant daughter at her local Harris Teeter grocery store when she noticed something odd, she tells HelloFlo. On the shelf where the emergency contraception was supposed to be, there was a card in its place. The card, which Matson points out is the same size as the actual product, read, “To purchase this item, please take to the Pharmacy or to the Customer Service Desk in non-Pharmacy stores.”

Emergency contraception is exactly what it sounds like — contraception you use after any situation where unprotected sex involving a penis and a vagina has occurred. EC is safe. It’s not a threat to your fertility, and it’s not the abortion pill (which, by the way, is also safe). It delays the ovary from releasing an egg, so the egg can’t meet up with any sperm that’s hanging out and be fertilized by it. Plan B, the brand name of the emergency contraceptive you’ve probably heard of, can be taken up to 120 hours (5 days) after the sexual encounter, but like most medicines, it’s most effective when taken as soon as possible according to the medication’s website.

More: The Surprising New Source for Emergency Contraception

According to the Food and Drug Administration, emergency contraception, like Tylenol, can be sold over the counter — you should be able to get it on the shelves in a grocery store or pharmacy, and there’s no need to place it under lock and key (as it is in some stores) or obstruct someone from getting it by requiring them to ask for it from the pharmacist or other employee. Anyone can buy the pill, regardless of age or gender, without a prescription and without having to show ID.

The thing is, retailers don’t have to stock EC, Matson notes, but that’s what makes what Harris Teeter is doing so odd. They are stocking it, but they’re simultaneously inhibiting access by adding the extra step of requiring someone to bring the card to the pharmacist. “Nowhere in the FDA regulations is it suggested that this be done,” Matson says.

In a time-sensitive moment where you’re probably panicked and even embarrassed, having to ask a store employee if you can have something like EC, which is supposed to be on the shelf, creates incredible vulnerability. What if the pharmacy is closed? What if you live in a small or rural community where there is only one pharmacy and you can’t get to another one?

Reproaction, a direct action group founded and directed by Matson and Pamela Merritt, aims to increase access to abortion and reproductive justice. Currently, the group is pushing for Harris Teeter to ditch the card and put Plan B back on the shelf via a petition as well as actively picketing the store’s locations and Twitter campaigns (#donthideplanb and Henrietta the Plan B Dragon).

Harris Teeter stores can be found in seven states and Washington, D.C., but it’s not the only place that access to EC is being obstructed. According to a survey conducted by the American Society for Emergency Contraception, while 60 percent of stores that stock EC keep it on the shelf so you can pick it up and pay for it, 57 percent lock it up (like Sudafed), and 30 percent impose an age restriction, which, again, isn’t something prescribed by the FDA. Independent pharmacies are also more likely to place restrictions on the purchase of EC.

More: Here's a Quick Guide to Understanding Emergency Contraception & Your Options

“In some cases, it’s about genuine confusion,” Kelly Cleland, a researcher at Princeton University and executive director of ASEC, tells HelloFlo. “The FDA regulations have changed many times, so often, it is about clarifying that this is what it’s saying now.”

While there’s no embargo on men being able to purchase EC, Cleland says ASEC has gotten emails saying that pharmacies have turned men away. And, of course, there are the folks who refuse to sell EC based on moral and/or religious objections. “There’s a lot of cultural baggage around EC,” Cleland explains. “Many people still believe that it makes you infertile, that it’s abortion and that young people shouldn’t take it, and often, those people are in a gatekeeping role.”

EC is also expensive — $50 for the brand name and $40 for the generic (there’s only one pill in the box). Because it’s so expensive, it’s considered a high-risk item for theft, which is one reason store managers and pharmacists have opted for keeping it behind the counter.

“I’ve seen a $55 vibrator at CVS next to an empty shelf of EC,” says Cleland, who also points out that the package EC comes in is hard to open — you can’t just reach in and take the pill out, so the theft argument isn’t exactly robust.

If you can’t access EC at your supermarket or pharmacy, you do have other options. Bedsider offers a pharmacy locator so you can do a search of your area for another place to check for it. Family planning clinics offer EC for less than the price you’d find it for in the store. You can also buy EC online for a good price, says Cleland, who suggests sites like AfterPill and Prjkt Ruby. Sites don’t always offer expedited shipping, however, so you might not be able to get it on time, but she recommends having EC on hand for emergencies. If you’re on campus, you can likely get EC from campus health services and maybe even from a vending machine — schools like Dartmouth, Pomona, UC Davis and others have them.

More: The Truth Behind the Pullout Method

“It’s really hard to confront a pharmacist or a store employee about this when you need it,” says Cleland. “It feels like a crisis moment, but it can make an impact for yourself and others.” You can report issues of access to EC to ASEC, which has created a guide for pharmacists to learn about EC and the FDA regulations.

“You should feel rooted in your right to purchase the product,” Matson notes. “There should be no demand for ID. It doesn’t matter if you’re undocumentedgender nonconforming or if someone’s purchasing it on your behalf. No one has the right to deny you.”

I've Never Had a Dad — Here's What I Do on Father's Day

Pop Culture

It was a sunny June morning in New York, and I was in line at Starbucks. It was, in my mind, not a special day at all — let alone a holiday. As I stepped up to place my order, the barista smiled at me. “Happy Father’s Day,” he said. “What are you up to today?”

That's a totally normal and expected question for most people; after all, most people have or had a dad, and many partner with and co-parent with yet another dad. There are plenty of dads to go around in most people's lives. But not mine.

I don't have a dad. It’s not that I lost him or he lost me — I just never had one in the first place. Like everyone else, I’m the product of sperm meeting egg. But in my case, the sperm came from a donor: a man picked out of a book for his intelligence, his height and his religion (Jewish).

More: People Think I Have a "Designer Baby" Because I Chose His Sperm Donor

I was raised by two strong, smart, wonderful women. Women who were lesbians raising kids before it was cool or widely accepted to do so. Women who blazed their way down a trail that many people were afraid to even set foot on.

As a little girl, I thought nothing of the fact that my family was different. I had two loving, supportive parents. What did it matter that the family next door had a mom and a dad and I had two moms and no dad?

It wasn’t until I entered school that it clicked. In first grade, I was forced to sit alone in the cafeteria at lunch after donning a gay pride necklace (made up of rainbow bells). I’d asked for it because it was fun, not because I envisioned myself some sort of elementary school zealot). Planning playdates proved difficult. Every so often, a parent would decide my home wasn’t fit for their child.

My parents protected me as best they could, but the older I got, the more I realized just how different we were. In the months leading up to my bat mitzvah, I struggled with whether I was comfortable being the first kid to have two women up on the bimah. At summer camp, surrounded by rich New York parents in sleek summer outfits, my moms stuck out like a sore thumb.

This isn’t to say I was embarrassed of them. I wasn’t — at least not usually. I loved my family. But a teenager feels many things, and I often felt the space between my family and the ones around me. I was a quiet, emotional, often awkward kid who grew into a moody teenager, and I wanted more than anything to fit in. My family, I felt, stopped me from doing so. It wasn’t so much that I wanted a dad or that I felt my family was incomplete. It was that I wanted to be normal. To be like everyone else. And with two lesbian moms, I wasn’t (even in a hippie college town known for its lesbian population).

More: Baby Clothes We Wish We Could Wear Ourselves

I can’t quite pinpoint the moment when I stopped being ashamed of my family and started being proud — really proud. Somewhere between growing out of my teenage worries and into my grown-woman self, I realized that growing up the way I did wasn’t a curse; it was a blessing.

Being raised by my mothers — two people who exemplify the intersection of strength and heart — taught me acceptance. It taught me to think before judging (or better yet, not to judge at all). It taught me that different is beautiful. That "normal" means nothing. My mothers, in all their bravery, did not limit me with their choice to create a family. Quite the opposite, actually. They taught me that if you love one another, there are no limits to what you can do.

Sometimes, on Father’s Day, I think about all the children, young and grown, who are celebrating with the dads who raised them. I think of footballs thrown in the front yard, of steaming cups of coffee being shared around tables, of love notes scribbled hastily on Hallmark cards, of cell phones being pressed up to ears to say, “I love you dad!” And I feel a tiny pang for what my life could have been had I had a father with whom to celebrate.

And then I remember that it’s love that makes a family — and that I’ve got plenty to celebrate with the family I’ve got.

More:  I Didn't Realize My Mom Was Clueless Until I Had a Kid

I could have corrected that Starbucks barista. I could have handed over my debit card and said, smiling, “I don’t actually have a dad, so I’m not celebrating today.” I could have, but I didn’t. Instead, I smiled, shrugged, and moved along the counter to wait for my drink. My family is a long, lovely story — and there was a line behind me.

Norman Reedus Posted a Tribute to Andrew Lincoln, & TWD Fans Can't Deal

As if watching our favorite characters get killed off the show or make unceremonious exits wasn't difficult enough, fans of The Walking Dead must also face the dreaded aftershock of bad news — when the actors respond and seem just as heartbroken as the rest of us. Such is certainly the case with the disarmingly sentimental photo Norman Reedus just posted of his longtime TWD costar Andrew Lincoln.

More: You Won't See Much of These 2 Walking Dead Actors in the Future

In the still from the show shared by Reedus, he and Lincoln embrace. A man of few words, Reedus simply captioned the snapshot with a heart emoji.

Reedus Lincoln 4

And, on that note, here you go, Reedus — we saved you the trouble and just pulled our own still-beating hearts from our chests since you seem so intent on breaking them anyway.

The reason the photo is so sentimental, of course, is the fact that mere days ago reports began surfacing that Season 9 would be Lincoln's last. Although Reedus doesn't outright confirm that to be true of his friend and costar, the timing and content of his post certainly suggest it.

More: 2 Walking Dead Actors Got a Promotion for Season 9

Naturally, fans are convinced Reedus just made a tribute to Lincoln in the spirit of goodbye and everyone is falling apart over such a tremendous loss: for the show, for the fans and, obviously, for Reedus too.

According to Us Weekly, a source close to the show confirmed that Lincoln is leaving — and in his absence, Reedus will step up to fill the lead role. Multiple outlets are reporting that the Ride with Norman Reedus host negotiated a $20 million paycheck to stay on board the apocalyptic series.

As was previously reported, Lauren Cohan, who plays fan favorite Maggie Rhee, will be exiting the show after the first six episodes to lead the new ABC series Whiskey Cavalier. Sources are also suggesting that Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne in the series, will leave when her contract is up after Season 9.

With just about as much unrest behind-the-scenes as in the show, it remains to be seen whether The Walking Dead can make it through so many casting changes without losing viewers. At this point, the zombie apocalypse doesn't appear to be the biggest threat — The Walking Dead might not survive itself.

Sherlock Star Benedict Cumberbatch Fights Off Four Attackers to Save Civilian

Perhaps Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch should consider moonlighting as a superhero — because he sure seemed to fit the bill this weekend when he saved a food delivery cyclist in London from four vicious muggers.

Per the U.K. paper The Sun, the 41-year-old actor spotted the attack from his Uber car and didn't hesitate to help. He jumped out of the car and ran toward the ruckus, shouting, "Leave him alone!" Witnesses say that when the attackers failed to back off the cyclist, Cumberbatch pulled them off the victim and fought them off before they finally ran away.

Cumberbatch's Uber driver, Manuel Dias, confirmed the heroic story to The Sun.

"I was taking Benedict and his wife to a club — but I didn't know it was him at first," Dias recounted. "I went to turn down into Marylebone High Street and we saw four guys were pushing around a Deliveroo cyclist. My passenger jumped out, ran over and pulled the men away. They turned towards him and things looked like getting worse, so I joined in."

It was in the middle of the melee that Dias recognized Cumberbatch. "Then it all got a bit surreal. Here was Sherlock Holmes fighting off four attackers just round the corner from Baker Street," Dias said, pointing out the proximity of the attack to Cumberbatch's fictional Sherlock Holmes home at 221 B Baker Street.

Although he clearly contributed as well, the driver insists that "the cyclist was lucky, Benedict's a superhero. He also noted that Cumberbatch was very brave and "did most of it, to be honest." If that doesn't fill you with hope for humanity, Cumberbatch's interaction with the rescued rider surely will. Said Dias, "He asked the rider how he was and when he said, 'I'm OK,' Benedict just hugged him.'"

Deliveroo, the food delivery service the cyclist works for, responded via a spokesperson, thanking Cumberbatch for his heroic actions.

We Already Watched Dietland & This Is Why You Should, Too

As summer approaches, many things come to mind: sand, sun, fun... sure, all of those things, but also a question — what are we going to watch? The ratings giants that stretched across fall and into spring have ended and left a programming gap in your evening plans. Which is why, friends, we all need Dietland.

More: 6 Best Julianna Margulies Scenes from The Good Wife

We get it. You need a bit of motivation to watch. After all, why should you tune in to Dietland when you could spend your spare summer time binge-watching back episodes of Grey's Anatomy and Breaking Bad? Well, there are many reasons. We should know — we already watched the first three episodes of the new AMC series, and we're officially hooked.

Here's why you should add this show to your "must see this summer" list.

1. It's not reductive

As the title suggests, the series spins around weight loss. At the center of that vortex is actor Joy Nash, who plays ghostwriter Plum Kettle, a woman who has been plagued by insecurity about her size since she was young.

However, Plum's relationship with her body is complex, and the show itself offers a satirical look at the way the outside world views a woman's worth relative to her size. It's impossible not to see Plum in a way many shows about weight don't portray their characters: dimensionally.

2. It's not at all what you expect

Between the name and what we've already told you, you may think you have the show pegged. But here's the deal: you don't. Running in tandem with Plum's storyline is a secondary storyline involving kidnapping, murder, conspiracy theories and a possible terrorist cell that goes by the name of "Jennifer." Essentially, it hovers somewhere between scathing, smart social commentary and a telenovela (think Jane the Virgin).

More: Toby Is Actually a Great Character on This Is Us — This Is Why

Or, in short, not at all what you'd expect. On the surface, Dietland is a show about a woman struggling with her identity because of her weight. It doesn't take long, though, for the series to flex its range and dive deep into subversive subject matter, sometimes in the most delightfully outrageous ways.

3. It's extremely timely

That "terrorist cell"? It's run by feminists. Its victims? Men who've committed sexual assault. Misogynists. Rapists. Like the 2015 Sarai Walker novel of the same name, it's not some surface-level chick lit. It's not always an easy "read." It tackles extremely salient topics women are struggling with — self-image, yes, but also the polarizing yet necessary discussions about body and agency taking place in the post-Weinstein-era.

To be clear, the anger and violence the show tackles are satirical, although that doesn't mean it's hyperbolic. The anger is real. But no one is advocating for vigilante justice in real life (you can't really root for Jennifer's savagery). Here, it serves an important point: to further a dialogue.

4. The women!

In that vein, let's talk about the show's true glory: the female characters and the incredible women playing those characters. There's Julianna Margulies, who brilliantly brings to life Kitty Montgomery, of the acerbic and oblivious teen site/mag Daisy Chain. Of course, there's Nash, who imbues Plum with so much humanity. In some way, she is all of us.

More: How Cobie Smulders Feels About a HIMYM Reboot

Adding another dimension to the series is Tamara Tunie, who plays beauty editor Julia (who may or may not be channeling Southern TV icon Julia Sugarbaker from Designing Women). You'll recognize her from crime procedurals like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Blue Bloods, making this role a fun departure.

The list goes on. Dietland is filled with smart, sharp, nuanced women, and it's wonderful.

5. It makes you feel... well, everything

Uncomfortable. Angry. Happy. Sad. Relieved. Curious. Dietland explores the gamut of your emotions, and it manages to do so in a way that doesn't give you whiplash. This is a series that is unapologetically and unflinchingly honest. It's brave. Bonus? It'll make you laugh when you least expect it. Dietland is dark; there's no doubt about that. But it can be funny as hell, too.

Dietland premieres Monday at 9/8c on AMC.

When it comes to love, Laura Prepon has it made onscreen and off! In the Season 5 finale of Orange Is the New Black last summer, her character, Alex Vause, snagged a proposal from her lover and prison-mate, Piper (played by Taylor Schilling). But, even better, Prepon just got hitched in real life to fiancé Ben Foster.

The couple first made their public debut in 2016 at the premiere for The Girl on the Train, at which time Prepon was already rockin' an engagement ring. The following August, they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Ella. Prepon and Foster have reportedly known each other since her days on That '70s Show — he is close friends with some of Prepon's costars from the nostalgic series, including Ashton Kutcher.

In January 2017, Prepon gushed to E! News of her future husband, calling him "the love of my life." She also revealed that the couple hoped to have a small and intimate wedding but realized even then how difficult that could prove. "Our cast alone is like 50 people," Prepon joked of her OITNB family.

No word yet on whether the newlyweds actually managed to keep their big day low-key, and it's unlikely any of Prepon's OITNB castmates will be spilling the deets. The upcoming sixth season of the prison drama has so far been shrouded in secrecy. Although new seasons typically drop around this time each summer, a release date for Season 6 has yet to materialize.

Mere days before sharing her wedding photo, Prepon alluded to the other big day in her life at the moment — the day the new season finally drops.

After more than a year together, Sofia Richie and Scott Disick are reportedly over — and the word on the street is that Disick's philandering ways are to blame. The 19-year-old model apparently shared the intel with her famous dad, Lionel Richie, who is understandably seeing red over Disick's treatment of his daughter.

According to People, Sofia has actually been crashing at her dad's house during the ordeal. "Sofia has moved out of Scott's house. She has been living at Lionel's house for the past couple of days," a source told the outlet, adding, "She is looking for her own place."

Although Lionel hasn't exactly publicly panned his daughter's relationship with Disick, 35, the music icon clearly wasn't thrilled about it either. "Lionel hasn't approved of the relationship since the beginning. He joked about it publicly but he was livid," an insider told People.

Of course, this isn't the first time the couple has taken a break. Over the past year, their relationship has been a study in hot and cold. However, this particular breakup may be the real deal. On Thursday, Disick was photographed getting awfully handsy with a mystery woman at Kanye West's album premiere party. Per TMZ, he was reportedly telling fellow party-goers that he and Sofia are over.

Another People source claims that Sofia had already caught on to Disick's dishonesty, saying, "He cheated on her, and she confronted him." However, says the source, Sofia "really loves Scott." And it was only last month that she celebrated her then-boyfriend on his birthday.

It's been over a decade since they shared the screen in Friends, but Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston are still just that — friends, and best friends to boot. In fact, the two have been so close for so long, they are starting to coordinate their ensembles on girls' night out!

The BFFs acted as each other's plus-ones at the "Our Majestic Oceans" benefit dinner hosted by Chanel and the Natural Resources Defense Council on Saturday night in Malibu. Likely realizing they'd be photographed together frequently throughout the evening, Cox and Aniston arrived in artfully coordinated ensembles.

Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox

Cox opted for a white blouse and high-waisted black pants. She accessorized the outfit with black heels and a tweed handbag by Chanel. Aniston also chose black heels and a handbag by Chanel (a beaded clutch), but she went monochromatic in an all-black high-waisted pants and blouse combo topped with a sharp tuxedo jacket.

In short, the ladies looked fabulous — and they made an especially fabulous duo.

Although Cox and Aniston have been photographed together many times over the course of their longtime friendship, this marks one of the first public outings they've enjoyed together since Aniston announced her separation from Justin Theroux in February.

Earlier this year, fans were convinced those friends might include the friends. A fan-made trailer posted to YouTube showcased the whole gang back together again, teasing a Friends movie. While the trailer created a frenzy for a minute, it didn't take long to figure out that the trailer featured clips from the actors' other projects over the years.

The Queen Gifted Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Yet Another House

It's only been a few weeks since the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, now known simply as Duchess Meghan of Sussex, but it looks like Queen Elizabeth II is still feeling quite loving and festive. You see, even though Harry and Meghan already have a home on the grounds of Kensington Palace, a quaint little cottage right next door to Prince William and his brood, the queen has now seen fit to gift the newlyweds with another home. Talk about generous!

More: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Honeymoon Destination Was Finally Announced

Glamour magazine reported on Sunday that in addition to the cottage at Kensington Palace, Harry and Meghan now also have a cottage — York Cottage — on the grounds of the Sandringham Estate for their use. Sandringham might ring a bell for fans of the royal family, but for those who don't readily know, Sandringham is a beloved home away from home for the queen and has been for years now. Harry and Meghan also aren't the first royal family members to receive such a great gift from the dear queen: Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, formerly known as Kate Middleton, were gifted Anmer Hall at Sandringham Estate shortly after their marriage.

The cottage, which is really more of a mansion in regular-people terms, dates back to the days of King Henry VII, who passed it down to his son, King George V in 1893. The home also reportedly has a fun, "eccentric" atmosphere according to Metro, and it is said to look like "three Merrie England pubs joined together," which we think is the right kind of atmosphere for a vacation home, TBH.

There's no word yet on when exactly Harry and Meghan will christen the cottage as their own, seeing as they're tied up with various public duties right now. They're also prepping for their honeymoon in Alberta, Canada.

9 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Bipolar Disorder

It's a common misconception that bipolar disorder is synonymous with "mood swings." The mental illness, which, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, affects approximately 4.4 percent of American adults at some point during their lives, is often misunderstood by the public. It also frequently goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, meaning that many patients wait years before they're treated with the right medications and therapeutic techniques.

Like most mental illnesses, there's no shortage of myths and misconceptions about bipolar disorder. But there are also many lesser-known facts about bipolar that can help us better understand the illness. We asked mental health experts to weigh in on important things to know about bipolar disorder, ranging from symptoms to treatment. Here's what they told us.

Children can develop bipolar disorder

"Bipolar disorder is usually diagnosed in teens or early adulthood, but many of those people report experiencing symptoms during childhood," Dr. Sal Raichbach a psychologist and licensed clinical social worker at Ambrosia Treatment Center, tells SheKnows. The illness is more difficult to diagnose in children because its symptoms are similar to common childhood mental health issues like anxiety disorder and ADHD.

More: The Very Real Things Bipolar Disorder Has Cost Me

People don't cycle between depression & mania quickly

Contrary to common belief, Raichbach says that individuals with bipolar disorder aren't extremely happy one minute and completely depressed the next. "In reality, the cycles of bipolar disorder usually happen over the course of months or years rather than minutes," he explains.

Bipolar disorder can be genetic

Individuals who have a first-degree relative with bipolar disorder are more likely to develop the illness themselves. "If a parent has bipolar disorder, for example, his or her children have about a 10 percent chance of developing bipolar disorder," Dr. Bryan Bruno, medical director at Mid City TMS, tells SheKnows.

It's often misdiagnosed

"Misdiagnosis is common in people who have bipolar disorder," Bruno says. As an example, he notes that when patients are in stages of mania, they can be misdiagnosed with ADHD because of symptoms like racing thoughts, restlessness and being easily distracted.

More: When I Realized Happiness Was a Symptom of My Illness

The symptoms can worsen during pregnancy

Bruno tells SheKnows that many women's symptoms worsen when they're pregnant. "Approximately 45 percent of women with bipolar disorder have a relapse of either a depressive or manic episode during pregnancy," he says.

The hallmark of bipolar is mania

Although people often associate mood swings and irritability with bipolar disorder, Dr. Leesha M. Ellis-Cox, a psychiatrist, tells SheKnows that these symptoms are more commonly seen in a different mental illness: major depressive disorder. "The hallmark of bipolar disorder is mania," she explains. "A manic episode is required to make a diagnosis of bipolar disorder."

Ellis-Cox says symptoms of mania include extremely high energy, inflated self-esteem (grandiosity), racing thoughts, decreased need for sleep, risky behaviors such as spending sprees and promiscuity, talking faster than normal (pressured speech) and an increase in goal-directed activities.

More: Talking About Depression Is Good — Investing in Mental Health Is Better

It's dangerous to treat bipolar with only antidepressants

Ellis-Cox explains that treating bipolar disorder with only antidepressants can trigger a manic episode. A mood stabilizer is "the mainstay of pharmacologic treatment used for bipolar disorder" and all other medications are supplemental.

Bipolar disorder is frequently misdiagnosed as depression

"Research demonstrates that there is an average of eight years before an individual with bipolar disorder receives an accurate diagnosis," Ellis-Cox says. It's common for bipolar patients to initially be diagnosed with major depressive disorder. They're put on antidepressants, which can make symptoms worse.

There are support groups for those with bipolar disorder

If you or a loved one has bipolar disorder, it's important to remember that you're not alone. "One of the best ways to find relief from any mental health issue is to get help and support from those around you who have been there," Raichbach says. Groups like Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance and Emotions Anonymous offer a community that can provide support and encouragement.
