Recently, we received word of special casting for the big season finale of The Big Bang Theory, which will be focused on Amy and Sheldon's wedding day. Now, the show's producer is teasing us with sweet photos from the actual wedding, and you guys, we're already so emotional!

More: 2 Huge Stars Are Joining The Big Bang Theory for the Season Finale

Steve Holland, who runs the show, revealed a series of photos to Glamour magazine earlier this week that shows a lot of joy on the big day. Holland spoke with Glamour and was firm that this beloved wedding does in fact happen. Nobody runs from the altar and the laws of physics can't conspire to keep this meant-to-be couple apart.

"I'm excited, so I'm happy to talk about it," Holland told the magazine. "And I think it's OK to reveal that Sheldon and Amy do get married. This moment has been building for eight or nine years, so, yes, they're going to make it to the wedding. There won't be anything where someone gets cold feet and runs away. We didn't believe this couple would do that."

The special episode, called "The Bow Tie Asymmetry," features a slew of special guest stars, including Kathy Bates and Teller the magician as Amy's parents.

Laurie Metcalf and Jerry O'Connell return as Sheldon's mother and brother, and Courtney Henggeler, who had a brief appearance in Season 1, is back as his sister, Missy.

The casting coup seemed to be the inclusion of Mark Hamill, who Holland confirmed will not be in character. "He's playing himself, but his role in the episode is a surprise." Since he's there on Wolowitz's porch with a dog, could he be a neighbor perhaps? How fun would that be?

One of the best parts of the episode is still bound to be the regular cast, though, as we watch them walk through this very big thing with their lovable friends. This photo of Sheldon and Leonard is enough to give us all the feels.

And as they say, no matter what happens at the end of the day, you end up married. But it's still kind of nice to know in advance that nothing will hold back the true love of this match made in heaven.

More: The Big Bang Theory Cast Is as Heartbroken Over the Show's Inevitable End as We Are

We've waited eight long seasons to see this circle of love made complete, but we don't have to wait much longer. The episode airs Thursday. Holland even told Glamour that there was so much special content they wanted to add to this event that they couldn't fit them all in the episodes. Special bonus scenes will be released on the CBS website just after the show airs on May 10.

Where Is My G-Spot, & What Do I Have to Do to Find It?

I’ve written about the orgasm gap in the past — the numbers shocked me and still do. Since writing that article, I haven’t faked an orgasm — not one. My pleasure counts. As do all of my pleasure zones. But before I go off on a tangent (and I swear it’s related), I want to also note another important topic that I’ve discussed in the past — the multiple erogenous zones that can be utilized when sexually involved with someone who has a cervix. And yes, that includes the G-spot.

It’s known for being a mystery, difficult to find and even written off as “make-believe” by professionals. But alas, it’s real, and once you’ve found it, it’s loud and proud.

More: Take It Easy: 8 Sex Positions for Lazy Mornings

Where is it?

Even though I’m a sex writer, I actually ignore the G-spot in my day-to-day coital experiences. I’ve never had any trouble climaxing and I assumed my G-spot was being tickled, probed, prodded or whatever needed to be done to make sparks fly.

However, after I read up on the G-spot a little bit more for a recent article, I realized I didn’t really have a clue where this infamous spot was on my body. Shocked and slightly embarrassed, I felt like a bit of a novice (and sort of a liar). How did I, someone who sprawled spread-eagle on my bathroom floor as a teenager with a mirror between my legs, not understand where the hell the G-spot was?! I began to investigate, and I began right away.

Naturally, I started out by texting my group chat. “I have one hand down my pants trying to find my G-spot and the other one is scrolling through Instagram.”

I quickly realized, to my dismay, scrolling through Instagram wasn’t going to help me through my erogenous journey. I kicked my phone off of the bed and snuggled into some old-school masturbation style techniques. I laid on my back for a while, wondering if my partner knew where this spot was. There’s no way any of my partners knew where this spot is, I decided. I wearily felt around for something, anything, that was remotely the size of a dime and felt like the roof of a mouth. The G-spot feels different than the rest of the vagina — it’s dimpled and soft to the touch because it’s the tip of a nerve.

It gets bigger

Apparently, when you’re turned on, the G-spot becomes enlarged, and it’s easier to find. Some say this is because the area above the spot is the urethral sponge. The urethral sponge has something called the Skene’s gland, which engorges when you’re aroused. Because of this, the G-spot becomes super-sensitive. However, others believe that it’s a part of the clitourethrovaginal complex, a much larger structure connected to the clitoris. Whatever the case, it gets a bit larger when we are in the mood, making it easier to find.

Lying half sitting up, half hunched over wasn’t giving me the results I wanted. I needed to try the gyno-style position. Anatomically, I know that the G-spot is halfway between my vaginal opening and my cervix. I also know that can be easier to hit during missionary (which probably explains my love for the most-hated position). So I know the G-spot works for me. I never doubted its existence, I just didn’t know where it was precisely located.

After digging around with my (clean) fingers, I still wasn’t sure where this pleasure zone was located on my own damn body. Apparently, you’re supposed to press firmly on the spot. It’s supposed to feel a little strange, a little wrinkly. This is also where the “come hither” finger motions comes from and is encouraged. From my angle, it’s a little impossible and mostly awkward. At this point, I was missing my partner. I remembered a tip I read from Dr. Judy Kuriansky in Cosmo: “Trace a line from your belly button to the top of your pubic bone, then press around the area.”

My legs started to ache. I decided to take a break and try to really hype myself up with some new sex toys. I had read somewhere that sometimes, people’s fingers can’t reach far enough and a curved toy will do the trick.

My PicoBong Zizo Innie Vibe is pretty basic, but has always done the job. The slight curve fits comfortably inside, and when I’m really turned on, I can always depend on this toy to do what I command. In this situation, since it felt a bit forced (for the sake of journalism), I decided to press down on my abdomen while inserting the toy. The G-spot has a bonus to it that many of us aren’t even aware of — it can be accessed from the outside of the body. Well, not technically, but if you press down pretty hard on your lower abdomen while also having something (vibrator, finger, penis, whatever you want) inside, you can arouse the erogenous zone through your skin. Sounds creepy and sexy at the same time.

More: 4 Erogenous Zones That Aren’t the G-spot

Now, let’s rewind a little bit before moving forward to the grand finale.

My teenage years were filled with cunnilingus and foreplay. I didn’t perform oral sex on a partner until I was 18 years old, but for years before that, my partners were on their knees as I selfishly received without giving. This, of course, used to make me feel guilty when I looked back on my lustful memories. But now, as an adult, I realize it spoiled me (and my expectations of what happens to my nether regions.) This primal and natural inclination to spread my legs for my partners taught me quite a bit of valuable information about my vagina and my vulva (the external area that includes the clitoris and labia). I know what I want and how— in a circular motion today, in a slow and soft way tomorrow. I’m pretty educated on my pleasure.

But the G-spot. Ah, again I was at a loss. I knew what worked, but I didn’t know why. I was knowledgeable in the fact that I climax the most with blended orgasms — meaning cervical and clitoral stimulation happens at the same time — but I just haphazardly guessed that it meant “deep and hard” instead of imagining a spot that engorges and is a nerve ending on the anterior wall. I recently learned that my climax can be attributed to my partner hitting my A-spot, which is deeper and closer to the cervix.

I hit the spot

OK, back to the scene at hand. I began to experiment with my toy. I removed it once I felt naturally turned on and inserted a finger once again, knowing that when someone is turned on, the dime-sized erogenous zone becomes engorged and is easier to spot. It’s located roughly 2 to 3 inches inside the vagina on the front of the wall — aka near the stomach. Once I felt a thicker, slightly rougher area, I pressed down externally on my stomach.

There it was in all of its glory, my guessing-spot, my where-the-hell-have-you-been-all-my-life spot, my G-spot. Initial thoughts? Am I going to pee? But alas, there was no urine, just a good old-fashioned orgasm.

Now that I had found it, I felt like I could get a bit closer to closing those numbers in the orgasm gap. I experimented with clitoral stimulation and decided to hone in on my abdomen next time my partner and I jumped into bed. Apparently, the best way to maximize the feeling of the G-spot with penetrative sex is to try person on top (or dildo on top or finger or whatever) and rear entry (where you lie flat on your stomach and your partner penetrates from the top.) Since the location of the G-spot is pretty shallow inside the vagina, it’s easiest to stimulate when pressed closely on the frontal wall of the vagina.

Obviously, the most successful and best sex is the kind of sex that works for you and your partner. If you can’t find your G-spot, it’s definitely not the end of your sex life. I didn’t even know where mine was, and I’ve still been having a rip-roaring good time.

More: Everything You Need to Know About the A-Spot (& Why You’ll Thank Us Later)

For some people, finding the G-spot may be a little bit more difficult since the Skene’s gland varies in size. Also, some people with a cervix don’t even have a Skene’s gland. Never fear! We are blessed, vaginas are beautiful, and there is a textbook of various ways to get someone (or yourself) off.

Three months after confirming her pregnancy in a glamorous Rodarte shoot (totally casual), Kirsten Dunst has reportedly given birth to her first child. Multiple sources confirmed to People that the actor and her fiancé, Jesse Plemons, welcomed a son over the weekend. "Everyone is doing great," a source told the outlet.

During an interview with Marie Claire U.K. last summer, Dunst expressed that she had serious baby fever — largely thanks to her goddaughter. "I wasn’t one of those ‘I need a baby!’ people until my goddaughter was born. I love her so much," she said. "That love is just like... you can’t experience that unless you have a kid."

Dunst added that after working since she was just 3 years old, she had decided it was "time to have babies and chill." (We doubt there will be much time to chill with a newborn in the house, but we get the gist.)

More: Kirsten Dunst Is Reportedly Pregnant With Her First Child

Dunst and Plemons met in 2016 when they played a married couple in the critically acclaimed TV series Fargo. Proving that life can indeed imitate art, they got engaged within the next year and, well, the rest is history.

The pair has been busy wedding planning, complete with Pinterest boards. (Stars — they're just like us.) "It’s a really nice thing to do together,” Dunst told Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Ripa on Live in September. “It’s going to be so personal and fun. We’re having a really good time.”

The couple hasn't yet publicly commented on the birth, so we'll just have to wait to find out the baby's name. Perhaps he'll join his mom in a photo for Rodarte?

Kristen Bell Used Quite the Tactic to Stop a Paparazzo From Snapping Her Kids

We really didn't need another reason to love Kristen Bell, but she went ahead and gave us one anyway. When the actor was picking up her daughters, 5-year-old Lincoln and 3-year-old Delta, from preschool, she spotted a paparazzo snapping pictures of the girls.

Bell, who previously lead a campaign to protect celebrities' children from the paparazzi, was extremely concerned about the dangers of, you know, the entire world finding out exactly where her girls attend school, so she decided to confront the photographer — but rather than yelling, she used the tactic of "kill 'em with kindness."

"I said, 'Kristen, you can handle this,'" Bell told Today's Natalie Morales at the Mom 2.0 Summit. And handle it she did. Bell drove across the street to block the photographer's car, and she then knocked on his window — for a civil conversation?!

"'Hi, my name's Kristen,'" Bell recounted telling the photographer. "'Do you realize how much you are putting my kids at risk? I have confidence your mom raised you better.'" She then politely asked him to delete the pictures, and he obliged.

Because she's, you know, a human being, Bell said she was tempted to shout at the photographer for putting her kids at risk. But she told Morales and co. that her tactic was effective because she did just the opposite; she kept calm. "If I had gone up to that car and yelled at him, I guarantee you he would not have deleted those pictures," Bell said.

And there you have it, folks: You kill more flies with honey than with sticks, right? Or something like that? Whatever it is, we'll call it the Bell Lesson.

Two Walking Dead Actors Got a Promotion For Season 9

If there's one thing The Walking Dead is known for, besides great makeup, it's killing characters off. But two of the show's actors can breathe a little easier today as producers announced they're upping their characters to season regulars. Avi Nash, who plays medical resident Siddiq, and Callan McAuliffe, who plays former Savior Alden, are both moving from recurring characters to regular for season 9, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

More: Fear the Walking Dead's First Full-Length Trailer Is So Gruesome

Both Siddiq and Alden entered the action during season 8 and joined up with main groups. Siddiq came across Rick and Carl in the woods, but was turned away by Rick. Carl later finds him again and Siddiq is there when Carl is bitten by a walker, which makes his entry into Rick's group difficult to say the least. Alden left his Savior community and gave himself up as a prisoner to Maggie's Hilltop group, where he's worked to show himself worthy of his freedom by trying to prove that he never really bought into the Savior philosophy anyway.

More: The Walking Dead: 11 Questions We Need To Be Answered After the Break

The series is known for generally sticking pretty close to the plot of the comic book it is based on though it has spared viewers some of gorier scenes from the comic (if you can believe that). With characters though they sometimes tweak things to make them fit the needs of the series. That's what they did with Siddiq, who was a working as a fisherman in the comic when he joined up with Rick's group. On the show he's a doctor, and has cemented his role in Rick's group as their source of medical help, something invaluable in any dystopian landscape.

Alden's character doesn't have a counterpart from the comics, says THR, but there is speculation that he could be a stand-in for the character Dante, which would eventually make him a love interest for Maggie.

More: Does Xander Berkley's Role Spell Doom For Rick's Crew?

However their roles develop, Nash and McAuliffe will rest easier tonight knowing that they may be chased, they may have to fight, they may meet a lot more difficulty; but at least for the meantime they should be sticking around The Walking Dead.

This New Westworld Character Could Change Everything

$

Westworld is always mysterious and odd, so the addition of one more elusive character shouldn't make much of a difference, right? Well, maybe wrong! One woman's appearance in Sunday's episode has caused fans to light up with theories – could Grace, played by Dutch actress Katja Herbers, in fact be Emily, the daughter of William, the Man in Black?

More: The Westworld Finale Is Bound To Be Unfulfilling

Viewers have only heard one soundbite about Emily in the entire run of the show – William said something about his daughter blaming him for her mother's suicide. That very comment led us to believe that William and his daughter are estranged. But during one of Delores' flashbacks, she sees the young Emily with her father at a retirement party for James Delos. So William brought his daughter along to a party like that? Clearly we were meant to understand something about her from that little glimpse. Like, maybe they're not really estranged after all.

Here's where things get interesting. Refinery29 pointed out that if Emily was a child during that retirement party, which was about 25 years ago, she'd be the same age as this new character "Grace." On top of that, Grace appears to bring her own knowledge to the park. In her encounter with another guest, Nicholas, she seems very aware of her surroundings and how the park is supposed to operate.

But Grace is hanging out in Raj World, the park's version of colonial India. Could it be that she doesn't want to run into her father, and knows that he is strictly interested in Westworld?

More: 35 Questions We Have About Westworld Season 2

Of course, there are other theories about Grace. For one, she could just be one of Westworld's high-ranking gamers. In the casting announcement for the character that was released last fall, she's described as a "seasoned guest" of the park who has the ability to both kill a host and escape a tiger display. You'd have to know your way around the game to do that though. So, sure, she could be a high-ranking gamer, but maybe she only got that way because her father William dragged her all around the park as he went on his own personal vision quest?

Another theory suggests that Grace is Dr. Ford's granddaughter. That would explain both her wealth of knowledge about the park and her seeming curiosity toward what's going wrong. And, in what was perhaps an error on her part, Herbers (the actress who plays Grace) did confess that she was excited to be filming with actors like Anthony Hopkins. But wait – Ford is supposed to be dead. Does that mean we're going to see him return in some flashbacks with Grace perhaps?

More: What Talulah Reily's Westworld Promotion Means For Season 2

Knowing Westworld, we're going to have to wait seven more episodes until the finale to have any great mystery revealed, so for the meantime, all we know for sure about Grace is what we see – she's a smart, savvy, suspicious woman who clearly has her own agenda. In other words, just like everyone else visiting Westworld.

Charlize Theron Commenting on The Bachelor Is All of Us

Charlize Theron is an active member of Bachelor Nation and she's not afraid to let her opinions loose when the time is right. This means that is a Bachelor has somehow offended Theron — even if they're not entirely aware of doing so — it's best to pray for their wellbeing; she's like to drag them through the mud without thinking twice.

More: Arie Luyendyk Jr. Continues to Be Persona Non Grata With His April Fools’ Day Joke

This was exactly what happened on Monday night on Watch What Happens Live. While there to promote her latest film, Tully, Theron was asked for her opinions on the way the season finale of Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s Bachelor season went down. Her answers, as reported by E! News, are nothing short of shady as heck.

After a caller on the show asked Theron what she thought of the season finale as well as her thoughts on Becca Kufrin and Luyendyk Jr., the actor immediately voiced support for Kufrin. "She is so much better off," Theron told host Andy Cohen.

She then directed her opinions towards Luyendyk Jr. saying, "I mean, literally he—not impressive. Not impressed with him at all." Jeez, Theron. Tell us how you really feel, why dontcha!

More: How All of Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s Bachelor Exes Reacted to the Finale

After managing to tear apart Luyendyk Jr. in one fell swoop, she returned back to championing Kufrin. "I think she's going to be great," she told Cohen. "She's fun and I think she handled the whole thing so well too, because that was the most awkward watching experience of my life. It was just, like, brutal, and she just kept it together and had integrity about it."

Her final words on the matter were directed solely at Luyendyk Jr.: "He just looked like a fucking dick!"

It's not hyperbole at all to say that Theron's sharp rebuke of Luyendyk Jr. is basically how we all feel. After the nightmare that way the season finale of The Bachelor, Kufrin definitely deserves this win. It's good to see that Theron is in her corner all the way, although why wouldn't she be? Theron is a woman who supports other women and is basically one of the toughest women in the biz; you don't mess with her or the women she loves.

As the season premiere of Kufrin's Bachelorette season approaches (the season premiere is May 28), it's good to nice to be reminded that Kufrin is in the right, even in hindsight, and that Theron has no love for the way Luyendyk Jr. treated her. Women of the world, unite.

Pauley Perrette's Final Episode of NCIS Was an Emotional One

Well, you guys, it happened. On Tuesday night, the night NCIS fans have been dreading, actor Pauley Perrette's final episode aired after weeks of suspenseful buildup. Thankfully, her character, Abby Sciuto, was given a happier send-off during her final episode, "Two Steps Back," than some might have feared, but that didn't make it any less emotional.

More: How NCIS Might Write Abby Off (Because You Know It's Coming)

It was always going to be tough saying goodbye to Perrette and, by extension, Abby. She'd originated this character on NCIS when it premiered in 2003 and had built up a loving fan base over the years. There's been a lot of commentary from Perrette about this exit, including how worried she was for the fans, and rightfully so.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

The good news is Abby didn't die, but rather left NCIS to fulfill a promise to her recently deceased colleague, Clayton Reeves (played by actor Duane Henry). Clayton was killed in a targeted attack meant for Abby, and at the conclusion of the episode, she announced to her NCIS team (minus Gibbs) that she was going to escort Clayton's body back to London so he could be buried next to his mother. Then, when asked when she'd come back to work, Abby made it clear that she wasn't.

"I’m not coming back. I'm leaving NCIS," she told them, going on to explain what she planned to do post-NCIS. "Clay died saving my life, and I owe him a debt and I intend to see it through. Clay always wanted to start a charity in honor of his mom. Since he’s not here to make that happen, I will. You may not understand, but it’s something that I have to do, not just for him, but for me."

As if that weren't bittersweet enough, Perrette also posted goodbye tweets with videos, photos and sweet notes on Tuesday night while the episode was on air. In one tweet, she posted a photo from what could have been her last day on set. In full Abby costume, Perrette takes her final bow.

Perrette also retweeted a video from the NCIS Twitter account. It featured the actor sending love to all her fans who supported her and cheered her on over the years. At one point, she detailed what she's learned from those dedicated fans.

"What I've learned is just such an incredible love and support," Perrette says. "Abby fans are incredible, they really are the best. I can't imagine a fan group being any better than that. They really make me smile."

And to add even more of an emotional wallop to Perrette's send-off, her former NCIS costar, Michael Weatherly, was posting on social media about how ready (or not ready) he was to actually watch her final episode. On Instagram on Tuesday afternoon, he posted a video of him looking directly into camera and reminding followers that Perrette's final episode was later that day. But it's the video's caption that's the real tearjerker: "I will be watching #abby tonight on #ncis and telling my kids, '...it’s ok. It’s ok.' Big kiss!"

Only Perrette knows what the future holds for her after her time on NCIS since she hasn't really revealed to her followers what her next steps will actually be. All we know is that we already miss her on NCIS, and we wouldn't say no to an Abby spinoff — if Perrette were into it.

The Best Water Workouts You Should Try This Summer

When you think of working out, there’s a good chance running, weight lifting, spin class and boot camp come to mind. But what about water workouts? The pool is one of the best places you can go to get an overall cardiovascular workout that’s also gentle on your body — especially this summer season.

What are water workouts?

Simply put, water workouts are any cardiovascular or conditioning program you can do in the pool. The workouts are made for any fitness level and are easy to customize or adapt to specific health conditions or injuries.

Plus, you can do these workouts with or without equipment. If you choose to add resistance, some of the more common ways to up the intensity of your workout are flotation belts, kickboards, water weights and pool noodles.

As far as the types of classes or workouts to choose from, the possibilities are endless. Aqua cycling, deep-water running, shallow-water boot camp and circuit-format group exercise classes are just a sample of what’s available.

One of the more popular water workouts is aqua jogging, or deep-water running. Performed with a flat belt around your waist, Aaptiv trainer Ed Hall tells SheKnows that this exercise mimics running in water but with the toes pointed to help keep your head above water. It is ideal for maintaining an aerobic base without the impact of running on land.

What are the benefits of water workouts?

Bet you didn’t know that swimming is the fourth-most popular activity in the United States. Water workouts have been around a lot longer than some of the current fitness trends, and they don’t appear to be dying down anytime soon.

In a 2007 study published in the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention, participants reported that they enjoy exercising in the water more than on land. Plus, you can exercise longer in the pool since the water protects your joints and muscles from a lot of the pain you may experience running or in a boot camp-type of class.

“Water workouts are safe for most people, as the low- to no-impact movements and hydrostatic pressure can be therapeutic for those with injuries or other limiting factors,” certified personal trainer and AEA-certified aqua group fitness instructor Dr. Kelly Morgan, who has a Ph.D. in health communications, tells SheKnows.

But water workouts are not just for people who need the pool to help them manage a health condition. Even the fittest will be challenged in the pool. Don’t believe us?

Rather than hitting the pavement or pushing weight around for your next workout, head to the water instead. You might be surprised just how challenging a swimming-based workout can be.

Which water workouts are the best?

Though most types of movement — in or out of the water — are better than nothing and good for your health, some water workouts pack more of a punch than others.

“Depending on your fitness goals, some types of water workouts will be better-suited than others,” says Hall. If you are a weightlifter, Hall recommends a shallow-water boot camp class that uses noodles, float boards and pool dumbbells because it works your muscle concentrically and not eccentrically (less gravity). This means you are less likely to get sore, you can work harder and get the most out of your workout.

Classes that incorporate aqua jogging or pure water aerobics classes focus more on cardiovascular conditioning. But regardless of the type of workout you choose, Morgan says the benefit of exercising in the water is that the water resistance adds a strength-training element to all movement.

Should you join a class or workout on your own?

If you need that extra boost of motivation to work out or you’re looking for the social aspect a group class provides, joining a class may be right for you. However, there is no need to do water workouts as part of a large group. All the workouts you do in a class can be done on your own.

If you’re new to swimming or water-based workouts, taking a few classes to familiarize yourself with the different exercises might be helpful.

“Someone can demonstrate the types of exercise to do and how to perform them correctly and in the proper order,” Hall says. Then you can take what you learned in the class and create your own workouts. Knowing how to do a water workout will come in handy if you’re traveling or on vacation and need to use the hotel pool to exercise.

Sample water workouts

The best part about working out in the pool is that you have a variety of workouts to choose from. Here is a sample swim/strength plan Louise Love, assistant director of aquatics at Missouri State University, shared with SheKnows:

Swim/strength workout

  • Warm up 200 meters (one lap is typically 50 meters)
  • Tread water with your hands up for one minute, 30 seconds
  • Swim 100 meters
  • Tread water with your arms only for one minute, 30 seconds
  • Swim 100 meters
  • Tread water with arms and legs for one minute, 30 seconds
  • Swim 100 meters
  • 15 push-ups (out of water)
  • 15 squats (out of water)
  • Swim 300 meters (pace yourself)
  • Planks (out of water)
  • Center hold for 30 seconds
  • Side hold for 15 seconds
  • Other side hold for 15 seconds
  • Cool-down: Swim 200 meters, slowing heart rate down by doing easy strokes or swimming on your back

Cardio workout

  • Jog in place
  • Jog moving forward, back, right, then left
  • Jog with high knees moving forward, back, right, then left
  • Jog kicking your butt moving forward, back, right, then left
  • Low front kicks in place, to the front
  • Low kicks moving forward, back, right, then left
  • Waist-high kicks in place, to the front
  • Low front kicks in place, legs going out at a 45-degree angle
  • Waist-high front kicks in place, legs going out at a 45-degree angle
  • Kick to the back, lifting your legs as high as possible, in place
  • Jumping jacks, getting low and keeping your body in the water
  • Jumping jacks moving forward and backward (repeat two times)
  • Jog in place
  • Sprint in place for 15 seconds (repeat three times)
  • Cross-country ski — left arm goes forward, left leg goes back then right arm goes forward, right leg goes back. Ski to the right then left (repeat two times)
  • Low front kicks in place to recover
  • Repeat all above — you can wear aqua gloves to add resistance, but when doing so, keep fingers spread and hands open

So, the next time you think you can skip your workout because it's too hot, try and find a pool and hop in — there are plenty of fun ways to exercise!

Everything You Ever Needed to Know About C-sections

As a mom who has experienced both a vaginal delivery and a C-section delivery, I like to think I have the right to comment on what those experiences are like (IMHO, there's nothing worse than a mom who tells you not to do something she's never done herself). And for what it's worth, both births were tough — in very different ways. My son was born after a lengthy induced labor. I had nitrous oxide, and it was excruciatingly painful. The recovery was fairly straightforward apart from the fact that I had to go back into the hospital six months later for a "repair job" (yep, they hadn't stitched me back together properly. And 10 years later, I still squirm when I think about that).

None of this put me off going through it all again, though, and when my son was 2 years old, my daughter was born. This time, it was a C-section. I had her in my arms less than half an hour after they made the first cut. The recovery was harder, as you'd expect after major abdominal surgery. (Naturally, it would have been easier if I hadn't had a toddler to look after too). But I took good care of myself, and I was driving again after six weeks — and back in my running shoes before my daughter was 6 months old.

More: The SheKnows Guide to Giving Birth

To me, all that mattered was that my babies were healthy. So I was a little taken aback by some people's attitudes toward C-section births. It was almost as if they felt sorry for me, that I'd missed out on a "real" birth experience because my baby came out of my belly and not through my vagina.

If you're pregnant, it's important to cast aside the myths and misconceptions about C-sections and know the truth — and not just because the C-section rate in the United States is quite high. (According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 31.9 percent of all U.S. deliveries are by C-section.)

A C-section might be performed for many reasons, Dr. Lisa Valle, OB-GYN at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California, tells SheKnows. Common reasons include carrying multiple babies, breech presentation, fetal heart rate abnormalities during labor and lack of progression of labor, either due to lack of further dilation or movement of the baby’s head despite an effort to push for several hours. A person may choose to decline a trial of labor after a history of prior C-section and may also elect to have a C-section for another reason.

More: There Are Actually Some Health Benefits to Giving Birth

A person's "obstetrician or midwife should have an extensive discussion regarding the risks of a C-section versus the risks of labor and vaginal delivery so that they can make a fully informed decision," said Valle, adding that the "physician or midwife should also inquire about the reasonings for an elective C-section and address [those] concerns directly."

The main risks of a C-section, Valle explains, are to the person who's pregnant: blood clots, hemorrhaging, an adverse reaction to the anesthesia, infection, surgical injury to the bladder or intestines, inflammation of the uterus, bleeding and amniotic fluid embolism (where amniotic fluid or fetal material enters the bloodstream of the person giving birth). The risks to the baby are far fewer, the most common being the likelihood of developing breathing issues (particularly if the C-section is performed before 39 weeks) because labor helps remove fluid from the baby’s lungs.

Whether you have a planned C-section or an emergency one (performed after labor has begun), the procedure is the same. "An IV is placed, intravenous fluids are administered and the anesthesiologist will discuss anesthesia options with the patient," says Valle. She adds that most patients "receive a spinal anesthetic during a C-section so they are alert and awake but [do] not feel pain."

Keep in mind that a C-section is a relatively short procedure, usually lasting no more than 45 minutes. "After the baby is born and determined to be stable, the hospital might allow skin-to-skin time between [the delivering parent] and baby while the obstetrician is completing the surgery," says Valle. Both are then sent to the recovery room where they'll both be carefully monitored for complications for a few hours. Then they'll be moved to the postpartum room, where the person who had the C-section "will typically spend four to five days recovering before going home." (On the other hand, a person is typically sent home 24 to 48 hours after a vaginal delivery assuming there are no complications.)

For most people, the recovery is the main difference between a C-section delivery and a vaginal delivery. "A C-section recovery typically requires more pain control via a combination of narcotics and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories," explains Valle, who also says the patient will initially "need assistance with walking and going to the restroom." Valle also says that if they experience nausea, they "might be restricted to a clear liquid diet until it resolves. A vaginal delivery recovery is typically much faster, with no problems walking or eating regular food."

I was prepared for my C-section delivery, but I was still surprised by a couple of things that happened after it. Even though I didn't deliver vaginally, I still bled for several days. This is a combination of mucus, tissue and blood shed after birth as your womb replaces its lining and entirely unrelated to the surgery. It took a few days for me to have a bowel movement (and it wasn't pleasant when it finally happened).

More: 7 Things You Won't Learn About Postpartum Recovery in Birthing Class

Everyone's birth experience is different, but for me, much of what I'd been told or had read about C-sections wasn't my reality. Breastfeeding after a C-section was no harder than it was after a vaginal delivery, although it can be because it may be uncomfortable to have your baby lay near your incision. And it certainly didn't take me longer to bond with my C-section baby than it had with the baby I delivered vaginally.

Here's the truth: A C-section delivery comes with more risks and a longer recovery time. It's important to discuss these at length with your doctor or midwife so you have all the facts. But don't stress if you end up having a C-section; giving birth deserves a badge of honor, no matter how it happened.

What Does John Legend's New Role as a 'Google Assistant' Actually Mean?

We all know John Legend has a killer set of pipes — we could listen to him sing all day long. And while that may not always be possible, fans will soon be hearing a lot more from Legend. The singer is one of six new voices coming to Google Assistant later this year, per The Verge, although the other voices have yet to be announced.

The news was announced at Google I/O 2018, the annual developer conference held by the company. Also on the docket for discussion was Google Assistant’s new, more conversational tone. It will naturally interpret back and forth conversation and be able to keep it going.

The new voices were created by WaveNet to work for any query. Essentially, this technology gives Google the ability to simulate an entire vocabulary once a voice’s timber and cadence are matched. In other words, Legend doesn’t have to spend the rest of his life in the recording studio answering the kind of inane questions we all love to ask Google Assistant.

When the announcement made its way onto the internet, Chrissy Teigen was all the way on board from the get-go. Hopping onto her own Twitter account, she deadpanned, "I don’t even need human John anymore," while retweeting BuzzFeed technology reporter Alex Kantrowitz's tweet about the news.

Chrissy Teigen Google Announcement Tweet

This is a textbook case of win-win. Legend gets to lend his voice without taking too much time out of his busy schedule, and you can chat with “him” about the weather, local restaurants or any other pressing question you may have. In fact, if all goes according to plan, you may even be able to have Legend Google Assistant make appointments and reservations for you. Full disclosure, though: That feature is allegedly still classified as experimental and in the testing phase.

This isn't Legend's first team-up with Google, either, but in fact the next step in what seems to be a fruitful partnership. Before his announced participation in the new Google Assistant project, Legend was posting video advertisements on Instagram promoting the Google Duo phone. The ads relied on using Google's FaceTime-equivalent technology to have fun chats with his family, like this very silly one about Teigen helping him pick out an outfit.

Here's to hoping her husband’s new gig will convince Teigen to lend her voice as well — although we’re not sure WaveNet has yet mastered the technology needed to nail Teigen’s next-level sarcasm.

5 Things to Know About Benedict Cumberbatch’s Miniseries Patrick Melrose

Ready to watch Benedict Cumberbatch's comeback to TV? We are, just because it's Benedict Cumberbatch. Yum.

He stars in a limited five-episode show called Patrick Melrose, premiering on Saturday. The Showtime series is based on five books written by Edward St. Aubyn that were loosely based on the experiences of his childhood into adulthood.

More: Benedict Cumberbatch Just Turned a Nursery Rhyme Into Art

The story tracks the British character’s life through three countries, starting off with his abusive childhood in the south of France. As Patrick grows up into adulthood, he is burdened with an ongoing substance abuse problem while living in New York. He makes his way back to Britain to start recovery and get his life back on track.

SheKnows attended an Emmys For Your Consideration panel in late April in Los Angeles with the cast of Patrick Melrose, and luckily, we were able to gather all of the important things you need to know before watching the new Showtime series. Let's get started!

Book series to TV series

For anyone who has read the Patrick Melrose series, the show will take some liberties with the timeline, so be prepared for things to be not exactly the same as you experienced them as a reader. However, all five books are represented by one episode each.

“The first book is actually the second episode; we changed the order of the first two books. So, you go back in time and it’s almost an origin story, so you see the effect of the parenting and then you find out more about the parenting,” series writer David Nicholls shared. “One great thing about that is every episode is completely different.”

Cast

At the panel, Cumberbatch was asked what drew him to the story of Patrick Melrose.

“The books, the books, the books. Reading the books,” he explained. “This man has had this incredibly impossible job of bringing some of the richest, greatest prose of the 21st century into dialogue.”

While he’s always loved the books, it was Reddit that actually got Cumberbatch the job during an Ask Me Anything event in 2013.

“I was asked countlessly what I wanted to do next. I [answered] I would love to play Hamlet and I would love to play Patrick Melrose,” he said. “It filtered back to my agent and to Twitter. I had a meeting with the producers almost immediately.”

Joining Cumberbatch in the cast is Jennifer Jason Leigh, who plays Patrick’s mother, Eleanor, and Hugo Weaving, who plays Patrick’s dark and abusive father, David. Viewers will also see a cameo by Allison Williams, who pops up as a potential love interest for Patrick during his time in New York.

Storyline

The series covers some dark topics, including incest, drug addiction and depression, but viewers will find themselves laughing even at uncomfortable moments.

“What an incredible arc for an actor to play. It’s the idea of being able to travel along that trajectory, and it encompasses so much. It focuses on wit and intelligence, and it goes beyond that. It goes to universals of abuse, of addiction, of recovery, of fatherhood — and also a son becoming a father and a husband.”

Research

This is a Benedict Cumberbatch we’ve never seen before on screen. Sure, we’ve seen him in dramatic roles and comedic roles, but the Patrick Melrose character encompasses both. He’s falling down the rabbit hole of darkness while trying to find the right upper and downer to level his moods.

Benedict explained how he kept track of all of his character’s major drug moments.

“First and foremost, I had Teddy [author Edward St. Aubyn] to help me with understanding the psychological and physiological effects of those drugs. It was a process of simulating that behavior,” he said. “There was a point where I would draw a chart of... if these cocktails were hitting the Quaaludes and he’s just thrown up the speed. He’s vomited. It’s really quite complicated what is in his system at any point in time — a base load of heroin, a high note of cocaine. How to measure all of that was choreographed pretty specifically.”

More to come?

Big Little Lies teased us by being a limited series last year but found a way to come back for a second season. Will Patrick Melrose pull the same move?

“That’s probably a Showtime question, but there are only five books and there are only five episodes,” Benedict said, laughing. “Teddy is not much older than the last time we see him in the last book, so we might have to wait another 150 years for another season. That might be beyond most of us.”

Patrick Melrose premieres Saturday at 9 p.m. Eastern on Showtime.

John McCain Talks About Death — His Own Death — in His New Memoir

It’s been nearly a year since Sen. John McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer known as glioblastoma in 2017. Ever the inspiring fighter he is, the politico has done many things in the undoubtedly difficult time since, including keeping to as many political responsibilities as his health permits, and now, promoting his upcoming memoir, The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and Other Appreciations.

More: John McCain's Staff Releases an Official Response to His Hospitalization

McCain recently read an excerpt from The Restless Wave that is now making the rounds, and it details his thoughts on his own death, the date of which becomes harder to predict.

“I don’t know how much longer I’ll be here. Maybe I’ll have another five years. Maybe, with the advances in oncology, they’ll find new treatments for my cancer that will extend my life. Maybe I’ll be gone before you read this. My predicament, is well, rather unpredictable,” the Arizona senator writes in the book according to an excerpt obtained by RadarOnline.com.

John McCain Memoir 1

John McCain Memoir 1

The memoir, which will be released on May 22, also addresses a few final things McCain hopes to see realized. Among them? Continuing to dialogue with his fellow Americans about important issues at hand.

In a sneak peek of the book given to NPR, McCain’s spot-on perspective (and patriotism) shines through. “My fellow Americans, no association ever mattered more to me,” McCain writes.

“We’re not always right," he continues. "We’re impetuous and impatient and rush into things without knowing what we’re really doing. We argue over little differences endlessly and exaggerate them into lasting breaches. We can be selfish and quick sometimes to shift the blame for our mistakes to others, but our country ‘tis of thee. What great good we’ve done in the world, so much more good than harm.”

More: Barack Obama Is One of Many Sending Prayers to John McCain

McCain goes on to remind us that, sure, our country can be self-serving. But above and beyond, we are a nation that protects the freedom and liberty of all people.

“We need each other. We need friends in the world and they need us. The bell tolls for us, my friends. Humanity counts on us, and we ought to take measured pride in that. We have not been an island, we were involved in mankind,” reads the poignant memoir, which urges Americans to “remember that this shared devotion to human rights is our truest heritage and our most important loyalty.”

It’s also clear McCain intends to make the most of what time he has left with his family. “Their love for me and mine for them is the last strength I have,” he writes. And it is equally apparent the senator will continue to fight for the best interests of his country.

And only then, when he feels his work is finished, does McCain intend to rest: “Then I’d like to go back to our valley and see the creek run after the rain and hear the cottonwoods whisper in the wind. I want to smell the rose-scented breeze and feel the sun on my shoulders. I want to watch the hawks hunt from the sycamore, and then take my leave bound for a place near my old friend Chuck Larsen in the cemetery on the Severn, back where it began.”

Meghan Markle Can't Wait to Be a Mom

Yes, we know they haven't tied the knot just yet — but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly quite eager to start a family. And we are trying to behave ourselves — we really are — but we can't help but imagine little freckled mixed-race gingers frolicking with their cousins Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte. We move fast like that.

Meghan Markle's good friend and former agent, Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne, revealed in a brand-new documentary (airing today on Sky One) that Markle eager to start a family. Be still our royal baby-loving hearts.

More: Everything We Know About Meghan Markle & Prince Harry's Wedding So Far

Nelthorpe-Cowne talked about traveling with Markle for a work engagement in the Cayman Islands (not a bad gig, eh?). In the documentary, she discusses chatting with Markle about her dreams for the future. ''She said to me, 'I would absolutely love to have children, and I can't wait to be a mother,"' Nelthorpe-Cowne reported.

Hopefully, Markle isn't too cranky with Nelthorpe-Cowne for giving away this tiny secret. Anyway, it's pretty clear that both she and Harry adore kids. They revealed to the press during their engagement interview that they had family on their mind. A smiling Harry told reporters, "One step at a time. Hopefully we’ll start a family in the near future." Yes, please, OMG. (Wait. Did we say that out loud?) And back in March, Markle met a couple in Belfast who create unique hypoallergenic baby products. Markle was enamored with their creations, and she said: "I'm sure at some point we'll need the whole [product line]." Diaper duty must be nigh indeed.

Even before meeting Prince Harry, Markle discussed her personal goals in an interview with Hello — and family was a big priority. "My life is more amazing than I ever thought it could be. I also dream to have a family. It's all about balance, and I have so much happiness in my career and am fortunate to travel the world and see so many amazing things — it will also be nice to be anchored to something grounded and in the same place. Raising a family will be a wonderful part of that," she said.

Anchors aweigh! Oops. We said that out loud too.

This Grey's Anatomy Actor Is Defending a Costar From Internet Bullies

Few TV series have fandoms as strong as Grey's Anatomy does, and never is that clearer than when the writers manage to anger the show's Japril (the couple name for Jackson and April) fans. But occasionally, that passion turns problematic at which point Grey's stars sometimes stage an internet intervention to help get fans to chill out. Case in point? Sarah Drew, who plays April and will be leaving Grey's soon, recently admonishing fans on Twitter for laying into her costar Kelly McCreary.

More: These Grey's Anatomy Fan Favorites Are Officially Done

Essentially, fans of the series who aren't ready to give up on the love once shared by April and Jackson Avery (played by Jesse Williams) can't get behind Jackson's new relationship with McCreary's character, Maggie. And while being supportive 'shippers is all well and good, Drew wants fans to know it is never OK to launch personal attacks.

So, on Tuesday, Drew took to Twitter to send a pointed message out to fans in defense of her friend and costar.

"I need to say something to some of you. I say 'some' because I know that many of you are not participating in this," Drew started, careful not to lump all Japril 'shippers in together.

Sarah Drew Japril Shippers 1

Sarah Drew Japril Shippers 1

She continued, "Look, I know these characters mean so much to you — believe me, they mean a lot to me, too —  but I do not feel defended when you attack my friends. My beautiful, loving, loyal sister, Kelly, is a brilliant, fiercely talented team player who ALWAYS shows up and dedicates herself to the stories she is asked to tell. Please stop attacking her for doing her job. When you hurt her, you hurt me. When you show kindness to her, you show kindness to me. Please be kind."

Welp, it's official. Now we're even sadder to see Drew leave the series! The actor always carries herself with class, and this is the latest example. Above and beyond our sorrow over her impending departure, though, it's important to recognize the sentiment behind Drew's statement.

More: Am I the Only Grey's Anatomy Fan Rooting for Jackson & Maggie?

Does it suck that Drew is being written off the show? Absolutely. Most Grey's fans are likely in agreement that she is a phenomenal talent. April is beloved on the series and important on a grander scale for portraying a rarely represented demographic on primetime television: the strong, openly Christian character.

However, with the release of this week's jarring promo for the episode titled "Cold as Ice," April's death seems increasingly inevitable. This explains the renewed anger from Japril fans, who feel as though the showrunners and writers would be killing April off just to hold space for the Jackson and Maggie relationship.

Still, this is Grey's Anatomy we're talking about. It's entirely possible the good doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital will pull off a miracle and save Drew's life. Then again, this is Grey's Anatomy we're talking about. It's arguably much more plausible that she will die and join the ranks of Derek, Sloan, Lexie, George and so many, many more.

More: 10 Struggles Every Grey's Anatomy Fan Knows to Be Real

Kindness matters. There are real people portraying these characters — people who pour themselves into creating the characters in a way that feels tangible to fans. At the end of the day, McCreary is just doing her job, and Drew has made one thing crystal clear: She's rooting for costars, and she wants her fans to show McCreary the same respect they've shown her during her nine years on this show.

Cardi B Confirms a Baby Girl Is on the Way — Well, Kinda

Is Cardi B playing us, or are her hints for real? The rapper chatted with The New York Times before Monday's huge 2018 Met Gala — themed "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" — and she referred to the baby on the way as "she" numerous times. Hmmmmmm.

The rapper, whose real name is the awesomely Harry Potter-sounding Belcalis Almanzar, told the Times, “Shorty weighs three and a half pounds... She do weigh three and a half pounds. That’s pretty good for seven months, right? Because I was born five pounds.”

Cardi also seemed to suggest a little girl was in her future when she chatted with Entertainment Tonight'sKeltie Knight on the Met Gala red carpet.

"Oh, she wants to fight me!" Cardi joked when asked about her baby's movements. She added, "[My dress weighs] about 35 pounds plus baby. It's OK though, I used to go up the project stairs."

She wasn't kidding about her dress, either. Check out this weighty masterpiece on her Instagram feed:

Cardi B confirmed she was expecting her first child with rapper Offset on SNL in April. Cardi said during a radio interview with New York’s Hot 97 she's already chosen a name for her baby and believes Offset will be a great dad. “God forbid,” she said about their relationship ever ending. She continued, “My man is a great father to his kids. I will never lose. I’m not having a baby with a deadbeat."
Offset's given name — Kiari Kendrell Cephus — is pretty fantastic too, so we can't wait to hear what these guys name their little one. We're thinking the moniker will be memorable to say the least.
During the radio interview, Cardi B said she had no patience for haters who question the timing of her pregnancy. And we support her wholeheartedly.

She said, “Why do I have to be in my mid-30’s to have a baby? What am I doing wrong? I’m a grown woman. [...] I’m 25 years old, and I’m going to say this in the most humblest way, I’m a millionaire. I’m established.”

Agreed. You do you, Cardi B. Haters gonna hate, but we're all ready for any invite you want to send out for your baby shower. We give really nice presents.

People With Vulvas Get Real About How They Learned to Masturbate

$

Were you in sixth grade or maybe seventh grade when you teacher taught you how to masturbate? Did they explain what the anatomy of the vagina was, the nerves in the clitoris and the varying ways to orgasm?

No, no. Of course not. For most sex education, the pleasure zone and the discussion about masturbation lies in the hands of the “boys group,” or the group that have the penises. Even the “girls group," or the group with vulvas, learns about wet dreams, ejaculation, their desires, their erections. OK, but what about us? We are usually chewing our gum, looking at slides and learning about pregnancy and STIs, which come along with a selection of scaremongering photographs.

But I also had a tingle in my stomach late at night.

I didn’t know anything about my vagina other than I was going to hit puberty soon, blood would occur in some form, and I would be in pain. That about wraps it up. Luckily for me, I’ve always been a googler, and I basically googled my way into learning about masturbation (special thanks to Xanga, Porn, Myspace and eventually Tumblr).

I can’t recall when I admitted to friends that I masturbate, but I did know that for boys, it was common. They had erections in class. I barely even knew what the discharge in my panties meant. Girls and women masturbating was happening just like the sun rose every morning, but none of us were talking about it.

According to a Safe Home study, 1 in 5 women are lying to their significant other about their masturbation habits. The No. 1 reason for this is their insecurity with the topic. If young girls aren’t going to discuss it and grown women won’t discuss it, when in the hell are we going to admit that, yes — and hell yes — we are getting off solo-style.

We don’t learn it in school, and we don’t see it much in television (think: the obvious attention to male masturbation in American Pie) and aren’t talking among our peers. So, how do women learn how to masturbate?

I spoke to three people with vaginas about their past with masturbation and how they learned how to masturbate.

Rae*

“I remember watching a scene of American Pie where the boys find this book on how to eat out a girl, which precedes a scene where you see one of the characters going down on Tara Reid. I was like, ‘Hold up. What the hell is happening?’ Not long after seeing that scene, I must’ve been around 11 or so at the time, I started exploring solo masturbation,” says Rae. They admit, their sex education experience was stifling and their guardians didn’t discuss sex much either.

“I think because there is so much fear that young people are reckless, they teach us to be afraid of our own bodies,” they explain. “It wasn’t until I started exploring queerness more thoroughly in college and out of college, that I started to grasp the importance of pleasure as power vs. something to be ashamed of.”

With PornHub having 1.3 billion visits per month, porn is rapidly becoming the new method of sex education.

“I didn’t start watching porn until college,” says Rae. “I think having my own computer and my own privacy really helped me explore more comfortably. What I love about porn is that sometimes I don’t want to be forced to leave arousal up to my own imagination. Sometimes, it’s nice to see something online and not have to see that person in real life.” Rae says, “Porn is also a cool place to explore kinks you didn’t know you had before.”

Porn is also a way for people to understand how their body can function. Camming websites where many models perform alone exemplify the benefits of masturbation and how to use toys.

For Rae, they never saw masturbating as a negative action. They tell me, “Solo masturbation to me is definitely lumped together with other elements of self-care that are vital to my mental health.” Rae isn’t alone in this. Masturbation does so much more. It prevents cervical infections, improves cardiovascular health, prevents insomnia and releases tension, and it increases pelvic floor strength in addition to all of the mental health benefits that comes with reaching a climax.

As for our current state of sex education, Rae thinks things can be improved. They see sex education as “exploring preventative, safe measures” and says that’s “where our heads need to be in the future.” Rae continues, “I think a sex-ed teacher should be well-rounded, sensitive and comfortable with their own body and sexuality. That way, the time spent in class would be more productive, and there’s a higher chance that information would be retained.”

Rachael

“I think I was 12 or 13 and realized that when I was riding horses the friction felt good,” says Rachael. “I was mainly just curious about something my parents didn’t want me to do,” explains Rachael, who recalls first seeing porn when she was 12.

Rachael explains to me that although she had comprehensive sex education, she “definitely didn’t learn about anything that resembled masturbation or female orgasms.” She says, “it was very penis-focused.”

“I look back at it like my relationship with skateboarding. It was something people were surprised to learn about me, and I knew I was better at it than the boys (probably) were,” says Rachael.

Rebel Circus says that masturbating and men being intrigued by women masturbating has to do with mystique. Masturbation is a private act and a partner’s curiosity is peaked when they see their S.O. pleasuring themselves (I even wrote about partnered masturbation once because I get the appeal).

In a Mel magazine article about male masturbation, the writer says, “Is it any wonder then that boys and men who were forced to teach themselves about sex and pleasure might later become problematic for their partners? Whether it’s negligently attending to their partners’ pleasure, or misunderstanding what is and isn’t consent. Or more subtly, the selfish desire to use one’s partner simply as a means of pleasure — kinda like masturbating with their body.”

Of course, this rings true. So, then, how does it hurt women when they were not raised or exposed to masturbation or female orgasms, and how does it affect their understanding of their body in the future?

Rachael says, “I think if I had done more experimenting with myself, I could’ve avoided bad and really boring sexual experiences.”

Ali

In her book, Girls & Sex: Navigating the Complicated New Landscape, Peggy Orenstein looks at high school- and college-age girls and the topics of orgasms, sex, sexting, pubic hair and other avenues. She writes that, “It sometimes struck me that we’d performed the psychological equivalent of a clitoridectomy on our daughters: as if we believed, somehow, that by hiding the truth from them (that sex, including oral sex and masturbation, can and should feel fabulous) that they won’t find out, and so will stay ‘pure.’”

Ali says that these feelings of doing something wrong were definitely running rampant as she went to Catholic school. “I probably didn’t actively look at porn until adulthood,” says Ali. She continues, “I 100 percent saw masturbation negatively, not as a judgment or critique of anyone else, only myself. The first few times I masturbated to climax, I felt an immense level of guilt.”

During her experiences with sex education, “They split the boys and girls up. It was essentially discussing anatomy. No discussion of sex, only abstinence, and absolutely no mention of masturbation whatsoever,” she says.

Masturbation and sex are so vital to understanding adulthood, to understanding pleasure and desire. Solo acts create a way for you to discover the clitoris and for you to introduce the clitoris to your partner and guide them into the movements of what you love (remember, not every clitoris wants you to touch it the same way).

“I learned about masturbation and more about sex education through my mother sitting me down, thankfully, but that doesn’t seem to be the norm,” Ali explains.

So, what is the norm? A solo act is mostly going at it alone, something that doesn’t require a handbook or a guidebook. It’s some trial and error. It’s a bit of fumbling and researching and being left in the dark. It’s a lot of experimentation, and sometimes, it takes us our whole lives to figure out. But once we do, it's so worth it.

Fans of the HGTV series Flip or Flop better buckle up — Season 8 sounds like it's going to be a bumpy ride. Fresh off of Christina and Tarek El Moussa's January 2018 divorce, the pair is preparing for the premiere of the next season of Flip or Flop. Since the season was filmed amid the breakdown of the former couple's relationship (they split in December 2016), the El Moussa's are addressing how the show will portray that.

As reported by Us Weekly, a press release was sent out for Flip or Flop Season 8. In it, Christina referenced the growing pains the show will experience as the hosts learn to navigate this "all new territory."

"Since we have to see each other every day, it's beyond awkward," Christina said in a press release. "I'm planning on staying friendly and keeping things light."

But you know what they say about the best-laid plans! Things rarely turn out the way they're intended in these situations, especially under circumstances as unique as Christina and Tarek's. Can you imagine going through a difficult breakup and then having to go back to working with your ex like nothing has changed?

A lot has changed for the HGTV stars and parents of Taylor, 7, and Brayden, 2. Since the end of their marriage, both have reportedly found new love. Christina is happily dating British TV personality Ant Anstead, and Tarek has recently been linked to lingerie model Patience Silva.

Although the exes have kept things largely amicable since their split, an "inside source" (we use that term skeptically) tells Us Weekly that viewers will get a glimpse into the reality of their recalibrated relationship.

"[This season] is a little bit more edgy. They're showcasing a more personal side, that they are an ex-husband and ex-wife having disagreements," the source told Us, noting that tension between the two will be evident. Per the source, Season 8 "will definitely shed more light on their relationship and be more interesting."

Intrigued yet? Us too. Since we've all been through a breakup at some point, it will be refreshing to see television personalities address it in a way that feels authentic. If HGTV expects fans to remain invested in the show, those fans need to feel like everything isn't staged — especially since Christina and Tarek's marriage was such a central part of the show from the start.
