Mamie Gummer and Benjamin Walker end their marriage

Meryl Streep's daughter, Mamie Gummer, and her husband, Benjamin Walker, have called it quits on their short-lived marriage. Their reps says the split "is amicable."

Mamie Gummer and Benjamin WalkerMamie Gummer and her husband Benjamin Walker have called it quits on their marriage. US Weekly was the first to report the news over the weekend.

Gummer, an actress like her mom, hasn't had that great a year with the cancellation of her CW show, Emily Owens,M.D., and now the seeming end of her marriage. Walker is best known for his role in the film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

The couple met back in 2008 when they were starring in the Broadway show Les Liaisons Dangereuses. They married in July 2011 at her parents' home in Connecticut. The wedding was attended by celebrity friends like Laura Linney, Claire Danes, and Tracey Ullman.

At the time of the engagement back in October 2009, Gummer told US Weekly, "My mom loves him!"

No reason was given for the split, but the actress' rep told the magazine, "It's very amicable," while a source told them that the separation "is very new."

The split must be very recent since a New York magazine piece had the 30-year-old Walker mentioning his wife in loving terms. The couple resided in Brooklyn together, and he even sent her a text during the interview saying, "She always worries about me in [press interviews] and rightfully so."

Star spotlight: Mamie Gummer >>

Walker is currently starring in the revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Tony winner Scarlett Johansson. Gummer was recently in the film Side Effects, and she is shooting a CBS pilot called Backstrom with Rainn Wilson.

Gummer is Streep's oldest daughter. She has three siblings: Henry, 33; Grace, 26; and Louisa, 21.

Oh no! Glee's Cory Monteith checks into rehab

Easter wasn't so cheery for this Glee star.

Cory Monteith

We've got heartbreaking news for you, Gleeks: It looks like Cory Monteith has fallen off the wagon.

According to People, the Glee star checked into rehab over the weekend. The actor, who plays Finn Hudson on everyone's favorite musical dramedy, had his rep issue a statement to People.

Apparently, he "has voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction," the statement said. "He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery."

Glee's hottest scandal yet?>>

This isn't Monteith's first problem with substance abuse. The 30-year-old has spoken before about his stint in rehab when he was 19. When he opened up about past issues with substance abuse, the actor said he wanted to share his struggles with the world in order to help others.

"I don't want kids to think it's okay to drop out of school and get high, and they'll be famous actors, too," he said previously. "But for those people who might give up: Get real about what you want and go after it."

Lea Michelle and the pregnancy rumors>>

There's no word on where Monteith will be doing his rehabilitation or what substances are an issue for the young actor. During a 2011 interview with Parade, though, he said he wasn't very picky.

"Anything and everything, as much as possible," he told the magazine. "I had a serious problem."

Hopefully, his addiction won't harm his reported relationship with Glee co-star Lea Michelle. Problems in that area seem unlikely, since earlier this afternoon the actress tweeted, "Feeling so grateful today." Sounds like she's glad her boy has realized he has a problem, again, and will be seeking the help he needs.

We've got our fingers crossed for a full recovery, this time free from any relapses.

Book says Freddie Mercury took Princess Diana out clubbing

Princess Diana couldn't escape the media, but a new book says one night in the 1980s, her friends disguised her as a man and took her out for a night on the town.

Princess Diana

Before her death in 1997, Princess Diana was the most photographed woman in the world. So to have a night out without paparazzi was a rare, if not impossible, task. But a woman has come forward saying that is exactly what happened one night in the late 1980s.

Lessons to learn from past royalty-moms>>

According to the UK Telegraph, comedian Cleo Rocos said that one night she, along with fellow comedian Kenny Everett and Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury, dressed the princess up and took her out to a gay bar in the British capital. Rocos said that they disguised her in an army jacket, hat and sunglasses and took her to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in south London.

"When we walked in... we felt she was obviously Princess Diana and would be discovered at any minute," Rocos said, according to the newspaper. "But people just seemed to blank her. She sort of disappeared. But she loved it."

Naomi Watts: The new People's Princess>>

Rocos is telling the story in her new book, The Power of Positive Drinking. She added that Diana was dressed up as a man and was meant to look like a male model.

"She did look like a beautiful young man," Rocos explained.

Rocos said that the star power of the two comedians, as well as Mercury, gave the club goers a focus other than Diana. She was able to enjoy herself without anyone figuring out who she really was.

Princess Diana was the constant center of media attention after she married the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles, in 1981. She had her first child, Prince William, in 1982 and her second, Prince Harry, two years later. Her divorce from Charles was finalized in 1996, and she died in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

Mercury was the talented genius behind the band Queen, with hits such as "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Are the Champions." He died before Princess Diana, in 1991 at the age of 45.

Top fairy-tale weddings & why we loved them>>

Rocos' story has not been confirmed, and it probably won't be, but it's nice to think that Princess Diana may have had a few moments of normalcy after becoming a princess.

Game of Thrones recap: "Valar Dohaeris"

One battle has been fought and won, but there are plenty more on the horizon.

Game of Thrones season 3 premiereThe Game of Thrones season 3 premiere didn't skip a beat.

GoT seemingly picked up right where it left off with Jon's fumbling, frightened friend, Sam. When we last saw him, he'd been abandoned by his faster brothers of the Night's Watch and, possibly, left for dead. When we meet with him, again, he's wandering aimlessly and afraid through a blizzard. One White Walker almost has his way with him when Jon's old dire wolf and the rest of the Night's Watch come scrambling to his rescue.

Get drunk on GoT with our drinking game>>

Game of Thrones season 3 premiere

And what of The Bastard himself, Jon Snow? Last we saw of Jon, he was tied to a long line of captives and being taken before the king beyond the wall, Mance Rayder. Among the captives was Qhorin Halfhand. Halfhand convinces Jon that the only chance he stands at surviving is if he kills his fellow Night's Watchmen. So, the two pretend to scuffle and Jon sticks Halfhand through with his sword. His perceived treachery earns Jon a place among Mance's kingdom of Wildlings. Meanwhile, it still seems like Jon might have a bit of a thing for the red-headed wildling, Ygritte. She definitely loves him! But, what of his vows to the Watch?

Speaking of vows, in the wake of the fighting on King's Landing, a new girl is put before the eyes of Joffrey. Margaery Tyrell is beautiful and silver-tongued and wants to marry Joffrey. Because of Ned's supposed treasonous ways, the council finds Sansa's engagement null and void and within a flash, Joffrey is betrothed to Margaery. So, what of Sansa? She thinks she'll still have a place in the court at King's Landing. However, Littlefinger warns her against that. Joffrey won't want to "share his toy," so she'll just end up as his mistress. He offers to help her escape back to Winterfell. But, under what terms? Littlefinger isn't exactly the most selfless person in existence... and he's always up to no good.

Somewhere a village is missing its villain!>>

Just like Sansa, Tyrion Lannister has found himself in a new role, too. After he led the soldiers to triumph against Stannis Baratheon, his father usurped his role as The King's Hand and sent Tyrion to a smaller, better hidden room on the premise. The demotion is hurtful enough for the imp, but it's made worse by his father's lack of visitation. He's been cooped up and recovering for weeks and his father has yet to come see how he's doing. When Tyrion seeks out Tywin for a little father-son bonding, Tywin unleashes on Tyrion. Reminder: Tyrion, Jaime and Cersei's mother died while giving birth to Tyrion... a tragic moment Tywin will never forget and never forgive Tyrion for. Tywin also swears that Tyrion will never, ever gain control over the family property but, if he's lucky, he may let him retire somewhere nice and quiet and out of the public eye. Tywin is full of hate and embarrassment toward his son. Poor little Halfman.

In other news: Stannis is alive. Despite most of his men going down in a literal blaze of glory, Stannis remains unscathed, licking his emotional wounds in a cave somewhere. Each day he's in hiding, he comes more and more under the trance of his witchy woman. What will she pull from up her sleeve next?

Clive Mantle loses an ear>>

Game of Thrones season 3 premiere

A different kind of magic haunts and helps Daenerys Targaryen. After calling on her dragons to toast Pyat Pree that was set on holding her captive, she set sail for Slaver's Bay to buy an army. Her dragons and her power continue to grow and, by selling one of her dragons, she'll be able to pay for a massive fleet of soldiers who go through all sorts of incomprehensible tests in order to prove their abilities as warriors. While her magic has helped her become the mother of dragons, another kind of magic follows her. While at Slaver's Bay, she has an encounter with a deadly creature and an eerie kid that looks strangely similar to Pyat.

We leave the game after Dany is rescued from the creepy insect-like creature by Barristan Selmy, a famous knight from her father's kingsguard who went on to serve Robert Baratheon. He apologizes for serving the usurper and asks Dany to forgive him and let him serve her queensguard. Does he mean it? Time will tell.

Recap: HBO tells you everything you missed in season 2... in 14 minutes>>

A collection of random thoughts:

  • Tyrion is still my man. If I had to place anyone on the iron throne, it would be Halfman. I think he'd be the fairest, not only to his family but to the others. I love the Starks, but they've had too much harm come to them. If they end up on the throne, revenge is all they'll be after.
  • Margaery is just too good to be true. Her PR stunt in the orphanage with the children: Did she mean that or was she just trying to show how much better she is than Joffrey? Or, is she just angling to make the people love her more in her family's own desperate attempt at the throne?
  • Why don't Shay and Tyrion just leave? What exactly is stopping them from gathering up some of Tyrion's money and possessions and buggerying off? I can't imagine Tywin stopping them.
  • Joffrey isn't getting slapped nearly enough.

All in all, the season premiere kicked off with a rebel yell and I'm stoked for the season ahead. It's all fun and games until someone loses a head. And even then, it can be fun... it just depends on the head.

Is Hayden Panettiere engaged to Wladimir Klitschko?

Is Hayden Panettiere engaged? Rumors are starting to circulate as she and boyfriend Wladimir Klitschko spent some quality time together in Miami over the weekend.

Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko

Is Nashville actress Hayden Panettiere engaged? US Weekly has reported the news, but the 23-year-old has remained mum on whether the rumor is true.

The entertainment magazine is saying that Panettiere has said "yes" to her boyfriend, Wladimir Klitschko. Klitschko is a Ukranian heavyweight professional boxer whose list of accomplishments includes a gold medal from the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia.

The couple make a striking pair given their height difference. The actress stands at a petite 5 foot, 2 inches, while the athlete clocks in at 6 feet, 6 inches.

The duo originally dated for two years but split in May 2011. Their romance ignited again in January, so this would be a quick turn of events if the engagement news is true.

A source told US Weekly, "Looks like a summer wedding!"

As for the ring? The source also reported that it exists, but "very few people know, and she isn't wearing her ring publicly yet."

While all of that news is unconfirmed by the two, what is known is that they spent some quality time together over the holiday weekend. Panettiere was spotted sporting a fuchsia bikini in Miami.

The former Heroes star is well-known for her love of athletes, having also dated NFL player Scotty McKnight. However, she swears that she likes actors, too. Her ex-boyfriends include Milo Ventimiglia and One Tree Hill's Stephen Colletti.

Nashville preview: Episode 15>>

She told US Weekly back in 2011, "See, I date two athletes and then people assume I only like athletes, but if I dated all actors, people wouldn't say anything. But I like [romancing athletes]. It's been a really cool thing because they're in similar circles, where they understand the schedule, the work ethic, the social aspect, but they're not exactly in your industry, so it works out well."

If the engagement rumors turn out to be true, then it sounds like the athlete-actor pairing is a match made in heaven for Panettiere.

Stephen Baldwin avoids jail time over unpaid taxes

$

Stephen Baldwin agreed to pay New York State $400,000 in back taxes over the next year ito avoid jail time. He blamed his failure to file 2008–2010 taxes on his former accounting team.

Stephen Baldwin

Actor Stephen Baldwin must be breathing a sigh of relief this week after he managed to avoid jail time stemming from his December arrest. At the time, Baldwin had failed to file his taxes for 2008–2010, and he owed over $350,000 to New York state.

On Friday, the All-Star Celebrity Apprentice cast member had his day in court. He pleaded guilty to felony tax evasion charges and agreed to pay $400,000 in back taxes. When he entered his plea, Baldwin had already paid back $100,000 of the money owed.

The new tax picture in 2013>>

The 46-year-old spoke publicly as he exited the courthouse. He said, "I'm just grateful for the opportunity to rectify that situation, first and foremost. It has never been nor will it ever be my intention to not pay my taxes. I just look forward to getting this $300,000 paid up in the next year. I have wonderful opportunities right now on the horizon to be able to do that and I believe I can."

Baldwin is currently starring on Donald Trump's reality show, and as of Sunday's episode, he was still in the mix. Hopefully, there will be other entertainment opportunities for the actor in 2013 because $300,000 is still a hefty tab.

The court will be checking in on Baldwin's progress — another court date is set for July 19. He is also on probation. Failure to cooperate in this case could result in a jail sentence of up to three years.

Stephen Baldwin is Team Kirk Cameron>>

He has until March 29, 2014, to pay his tab to New York. If he successfully meets those terms, the felony charges of tax evasion will be dropped. If he fails to back the state back, Baldwin risks five years' probation and a possible jail sentence.

Alec's younger brother has maintained that an accounting firm that he had hired failed to file his taxes for him over that three-year period. According to Newsday, Russell Yankwitt, Baldwin's lawyer, confirmed the actor had already filed his 2012 taxes and he was working on his 2011 returns with a new accounting team.

Kevin Costner prevails over Baldwin bro in slippery lawsuit>>

The Rockland County district attorney, Thomas Zugibe, seems to have gotten the last word though.

In an official statement after the ruling, he said, "This defendant withheld taxes that he was legally obligated to pay as a New York State resident. Individuals who attempt to steal from the public are stealing from the pockets of every New Yorker. Regardless of social status or income level, my office is committed to pursuing criminals who purposefully cheat the government and law-abiding taxpayers."

Baldwin better pay everything back. You don't want to mess with the district attorney.

With spring in the air, we're thinking about shedding winter layers and showing a bit more skin. Get gorgeous from top to bottom with our expert tips for these beauty-boosting spa treatments.

Spring spa
treatments to try

We asked A-list beauty expert and founder of Skinsations Spa LeAine Dehmer to share her top picks for hot spa trends to try this spring.

Cellulite detox treatments

Dreading bikini season because of cellulite? Think about trying a cellulite detox to help get into beach-ready shape. "Cellulite is not fat, it's toxins trapped in the upper fat tissue of the body. You have to know what cellulite is to treat it properly," begins Dehmer. Compression wraps that claim to melt away fat aren't the way to go, however, since they don't actually target cellulite. "Detox wraps can literally remove inches of unsightly bulges and ripples from your body," she says. "They are dramatically effective and healthy for your body."

A cellulite detox treatment aims to boost circulation, helping flush the toxins out of the upper tissue of your body through the lymphatic system, explains Dehmer. "Spring is the perfect season to detox from the winter loading and bloating, and when you begin your cellulite treatments to be summer and bikini beach ready."

Spring is the perfect season to detox from
the winter loading
and bloating.

Facial skin peels

Transition your skin from winter to summer with the help of a skin peel. "Not only can we pack on extra pounds in the winter, but we also pack on an abundance of dead skin cell buildup from excessive forced heat and chilling winds, and physical layers of oils, waxes and silicones from those heavier winter creams," explains Dehmer. “A skin peel will help make your skin breath, glow and come alive.” Expect your peel to be done in a series of six , and note that professional peels need to be performed by a licensed skin-care therapist, nurse or doctor. "Each peel works deeper into the skin to remove the layers of dead skin cells," explains Dehmer.

Full body peels

Get ready to spring clean your whole body. After a long winter, you've likely noticed white flakes attached to your tights or nylons, or dry, itchy skin all over. If that's the case, you might want to indulge in a full body peel, says Dehmer. Your body will be soaked and pampered with natural fruit enzymes and acid and exotic plant oils from around the world. "This deep peel turns your body into silk with a velvety feel for weeks," she tells us.

Dehmer says the full body peel beats a traditional salt or sugar scrub when it comes to giving your skin a smooth and healthy glow. "They can only dust off the surface flakes," she explains. "A body peel completely removes the entire dead-skin buildup, which is why your results last for weeks." A body peel is also a great precursor to tanning treatments since it gets your skin so smooth.

Full body mud facial

Shake off the last of the winter blues — and get a mega beauty boost all over — by getting a little dirty. Dehmer suggests a detoxifying mud treatment to really revitalize from top to toe. "What women wouldn’t want a baby soft, silky hair and body? Detoxing every pore of your body, this enzyme mud therapy exfoliates and detoxes your body," she explains. These treatments work to unclog pores to increase oxygen to your body and boost your body's ability to absorb products, while at the same time nourishing and softening with minerals.

Find the best spa treatment for your skin type>>

The scalp facial

When it comes to spa treatments, we usually think of facials or body treatments. But this spring, don’t forget about your scalp. The scalp facial is poised for popularity — with good reason. "This treatment bounces out winter hair dullness, dryness and lack of volume," says Dehmer. Not to mention, think about how much you love your hair shampooed at the salon: "This treatment is scalp, hair and massage on overdrive," she affirms. You can expect an enzyme scalp exfoliant to cleanse hair follicles, adding volume. Then essential oils hydrate, nourish and add shine to your hair. A scalp, neck and shoulder massage relieves stress and tension for a soothing experience.

Forbes names 5 wealthiest hip-hop stars

It’s all about the Benjamins for Sean “Diddy” Combs. The 43-year-old rapper, actor, record producer, and hip-hop mogul topped this year's list of Forbes magazine’s wealthiest hip-hop artists.

Sean "Puff Daddy", "Puffy", "P. Diddy", "Diddy Dirty Money". You can call him whatever you want, but you can't call him poor.

With an estimated net worth of $580 million, you can be sure that Diddy's record deals aren’t the whole story. Forbes reports that his wealth mainly has come from non-musical ventures.

For instance, P.Diddy’s deal with the vodka brand Ciroc pays him an eight-figure salary yearly and will net him a nine-figure pay day if the brand is sold.

Endorsements, his eponymous clothing line Sean John, Bad Boy Records and his numerous other ventures have secured Diddy’s place on top of the world.

Jay-Z spends his millions on Blue Ivy’s first birthday party>>

Only about $100 million behind at No. 2, we find Beyonce’s husband and Blue Ivy’s dad, Jay-Z. His head for business has steered him toward mega million-dollar investments in sports, alcohol, event management and clothing — each with huge payouts.

With 17 Grammy nominations and more than 50 million albums sold worldwide, he may have 99 problems, but money ain't one. Plus,  Jay-Z is about to embark on a tour with Justin Timberlake this summer so look for his net worth to skyrocket next year.

Coming in at No. 3 is 48-year-old Andre Young. Known to his fans as “Dr. Dre”, Young’s fortune comes mainly from the high-end Beats by Dr. Dre headphones and speakers.

If you watched the Olympics last summer, you no doubt saw Dre's handiwork on the ears of practically every single athlete who needed to get pumped up before the starting gun. Dre's headphones are favorites of athletes and celebrities alike. With a 65 percent share of the high-end headphone market, $350 million is music to Dre's ears.

Check out these flashback albums by Dr. Dre, TLC, Oasis and more>>

At $150 million and in the fourth spot, Bryan ”Birdman” Williams is the only artist on the list to make most of his money directly from album sales. While Birdman may not be a household name, his acts certainly are: Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj to name a few.

Rounding out the Top 5 with $125 million is Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Fiddy knows that being up in da club isn't enough. The most successful hip-hop artists are up in da boardroom. At age 37, Jackson has made his millions off some shrewd branding deals through books, video games, and a lucrative deal with vitaminwater. Not a bad deal for a guy who started selling drugs at age 12 on a street corner in Queens.

Drop and give me Fiddy! 50 Cent to pen a diet book >>

Out of the top five from last year is Kanye West, but is that suprising? I would think that dating Kim Kardashian and becoming the father of her baby would use up a lot of your money. Keep saving, Kanye, and we'll see you back on the list next year.

How Claudia Ferri landed her role on Rogue

Claudia Ferri had one exceptionally bad day work out pretty well for her!

Rogue's Claudia FerriRogue's Claudia Ferri still remembers the day she auditioned for the role of Hernandez.

"That day was not a good day. I was upset," she recently told SheKnows from the Rogue premiere's red carpet.

Everything you need to know about DIRECTV's Rogue>>

Whether she purposely meant to channel that anger or not didn't matter. It came shining through during her audition.

"To put it mildly, there was a line where I said, 'Don't [ahem] lie to me.' And it just came out so... from me," she said. "From the soles of my feet right out of my mouth... It made an impact. They really liked that."

That bad day clearly worked out to her advantage, even more so than you might initially recognize, too. As it turns out, Hernandez was originally written as a role for a man.

Ferri's awful day didn't just land her any old role on DIRECTV's Rogue, but it scored her a part meant for a man. The show's writers had to go back and completely rewrite the script to work around the fact that Claudia was a woman. Because everything happened so quickly, it was a process that was ongoing throughout the filming of Rogue's 10 episodes.

SheKnows goes Rogue>>

Things that had to be rewritten? Well, a woman and a man handle authority and power in different ways. And what about physical things?

"If the role is written for a man and walks into the bathroom and shoves the guy against the wall...," Claudia explained. "So we rewrote certain things."

Sounds like a lot of work, but a lot of fun! Hopefully whatever started off Claudia's bad day was quickly resolved. But thank goodness that bad mood helped her land the role. We can't wait for Rogue to start so we can see just what's in store for her character, Hernandez, as well as the main character, Grace .

Rogue premieres on April 3 at 9/8c on DIRECTV's Audience.

Revolution recap: "Ghosts"

Rachel and Charlie finally reconcile after Danny's death, while Monroe "lightens up" with help from Randall.

Charlie and Miles in Revolution

Revolution isn't shy about exposing secrets. The show is quickly revealing important details about why the power went out and how it can be turned back on. Rachel knows something about a tower that will turn the power back on. Plus, we got a peek at the night the power went out from the Department of Defense's point of view. Let's just say weaponizing the power was never Rachel's intention.

Miles officially joins the rebel's cause

In the aftermath of Danny's death, the rebels are regrouping while Charlie and Rachel struggle to connect. Rachel even slaps Charlie when Charlie accuses her of not being there for Danny.

Charlie copes with Danny's death by going on raids with the rebels. Miles, on the other hand, leaves the town to find a friend named Jim who can help the rebels against the Militia.

Revolution web series available online: Watch the episodes now >>

Miles doesn't get quite what he bargained for, however, when he does finally track Jim down. Turns out, Jim has created a life in the small town and even has a wife. And Jim isn't happy with Miles. The last time he helped Miles was when Miles entered the Militia camp. Jim thinks that after all the work they went through to get Miles in the same room with Monroe, Miles should have killed him. Jim refuses to help.

Miles in Revolution

Rachel knows Randall is tracking the pendants

Meanwhile, Rachel is studying the pendants. She notices them light up and immediately asks Aaron how long that's been happening. He admits that it is pretty frequently. Rachel knows it means Randall is using the pendants to track them.

Randall has agreed to help the Monroe Militia. He tells Monroe he can bring him more pendants and power. Randall thinks the key to a peaceful nation is one in which a few hold all the power. He has decided one of those few should be Monroe.

Jim joins the team

A man sees Miles and tells the Militia where to find him. The Militia attacks the small town where Jim and his family live. Nora, Miles and Jim are able to defend the town but when Jim's wife finds out the truth about his past she leaves him. Jim agrees to join Miles and Nora because he has nothing left.

J.J. Abrams talks Revolution return >>

Back at the rebel camp, Randall tracks Rachel's location with the pendants. Rachel is able to destroy the pendants before Randall gets his hands on them. She reveals that the pendants are actually flash drives.

Randall isn't terribly upset Rachel has destroyed the pendants. In fact, he says Rachel is more valuable, and he wants her just as much.

Charlie saves Rachel from being taken and she, Aaron and Rachel are able to escape.

Randall made the power a weapon

Back at the camp where the rebels have settled in for the night, Rachel and Charlie apologize to each another. Miles and Nora arrive back safely with Jim.

Through a flashback, we see Randall the night of the blackout. He worked for the Department of Defense and ordered a strike again Afghanistan the night of the blackout. Rachel and Ben tried to warn Randall that using the power as a weapon was not a good idea. He does it anyway.

Rachel finally agrees to tell Aaron everything she knows. She starts by mentioning a place called the Tower. The show ends there, but from upcoming previews we know this tower has some kind of ability to turn the power back on. The next adventure for the rebels will no doubt lead them to this building.

Simple and beautiful pops of color have been all over the Spring 2013 runway, but nothing quite caught my eye like the Kenzo Spring 2013 makeup looks. The skin is moisturized and bright, while the lashes and brows are left bare for an effortless touch — plus a pop of color in an unfamiliar yet fun shape. I love the pop of orange you see in this image; it's perfect for spring, with a simple-yet-strategic shape.

Kenzo Spring 2013

To recreate this look, I chose my own favorite shade in a classic bright mint. I’ve been loving mint for spring and thought this was a perfect time to show it off. You can recreate any makeup look, but try to choose colors that best suit your skin tone and eye color.

Supplies:

  • Your favorite fluid foundation
  • Strobe Cream Moisturizer from MAC Cosmetics
  • A dual-fiber brush, like the MAC #187 you see featured in the photos
  • A highlighting powder or crème for your cheekbones, ridge of nose, brow bone and inner eyelid/tear duct
  • Something to contour the hollows of your cheeks and the crease of your eye
  • A bright colorful shadow or liner of your choice and an angled liner brush
  • A clear gloss for a high shine on the lips.

Lets get started!

Instructions:

1

Recreate Kenzo's Spring 2013

On your hand, use your dual-fiber brush to mix a small amount of your foundation with MAC’s Strobe Cream moisturizer. This mixture will give you a coverage that is soft and provides a high shine to the skin. Start on your cheeks, forehead, nose and chin, then softly blend out to the outer area of the face.

2

Recreate Kenzo's Spring 2013

Apply a powder or crème highlighter to the high planes of your face for an even higher shine in more strategic places. This will make your skin look dewy and bright. Next, with a soft blending brush like MAC’s #224 Tapered Blending Brush, apply your highlighter to the brow bone, tear duct and inner eyelid.

3

Recreate Kenzo's Spring 2013

With an angled blush brush, contour the hollows of your cheekbones to start adding structure, depth and color to your face. At this point, your skin should look flawless, shiny and warm from the contour.

4

Recreate Kenzo's Spring 2013

With your tapered blending brush, contour your crease with your bronzer for depth. Also, get your colorful shadow or liner ready along with your angled liner brush.

5

Recreate Kenzo's Spring 2013

Using your colorful pop, start applying a good amount of color along the top lash line. Make the line as full or thin as you desire! You’ll be blending this product with a brush later on. Then, start applying the color to the bottom outer and inner corner of the eye, leaving the center void of color.

6

Recreate Kenzo's Spring 2013

Using your angled liner brush, apply more of your colorful product to get a full coverage of color. On the inner corner of the eye, use the tip of the liner to help you create a fun and small yet drastic point. Just like you see with the orange in the Kenzo image!

7

Recreate Kenzo's Spring 2013

Pop your clear gloss on your lips, plus add mascara to your top and bottom lashes. Voilà! You’ve recreated the runway — with, perhaps, your own twist added into the look. I am displaying the look with one eye finished as well as with both eyes finished so you can better see the technique and design. This look is perfect for playing with color without going overboard.

tax day

April 15th is deemed “tax day,” but hopefully you’ll have your taxes done much sooner than that. Before sitting down to file, make sure you are fully prepared for the daunting task that lies ahead.

This year, we’re making it easy on you. Though doing your taxes may never be something you consider to be “fun,” it can be a lot less stressful and run significantly smoother if you’re prepared in advance. And no, being prepared doesn’t just mean planning your summer cruise to the Bahamas with your refund check, or dreading taking money out of your savings to pay what you owe. It’s about having all the necessary documents gathered and organized, and being in a calm, clear state of mind. Without farther ado, we bring you tax day preparation essentials.

due dateDo not procrastinate

First and foremost, don’t wait until the weekend before April 15th to file. If you realize you’re missing a document or are confused on a step, you are more apt to make a mistake and miss out on a greater return. Allowing yourself plenty of time to get your taxes done minimizes the chances of any mistakes being made.

TurboTax advices you file Form 4868 by April 15th if you’re not able to file your taxes on time. This extends your deadline by six months, or until October 15, 2013.

Get organized

At the start of the year, you probably received numerous documents that are necessary to filing your taxes. Keep these in a safe spot — such as a locked file cabinet or a folder in your office. For other necessary documents, H&R Block has a handy questionnaire you can answer and it will provide a personal checklist of documents you’ll need. We recommend printing this personal checklist off and gathering all paperwork.

For H&R Block’s questionnaire, click here>>

Decide if you’re going to hire a professional

Hiring a professional tax consultant is going to be more expensive than filing yourself, but it saves you the hassle and time. If you have little to no experience with taxes or have complicated returns, a professional could be in your best interest. Plus, there is much less of a chance of a tax professional making a mistake than if you file yourself.

Be thorough

When you finally decide to take the time to sit down and crank away at your taxes, be as thorough as possible. Typically, it takes professionals between 30 minutes to one hour to file a client’s taxes. If you’re doing your own, it could easily take three or more hours. Reasons for taxes taking longer than normal include:

  • Purchasing a home
  • Having a child
  • Being self-employed
  • Having multiple write-offs

If you’re not experienced with taxes, be willing to ask questions and plan on spending a significant amount of time to ensure you’re filing correctly. Consider breaking the sections up over the course of a few days. Whether you decide to tackle the whole thing in one day or break it up, make sure you don't rush through it and miss something. Oh — and don’t forget your coffee!

Engagement ring on the beach

You only get one shot at proposing . Make it count, and win your love over with these super-seductive places where she'll be sure to say "Yes!"

Ideal spots to get engaged

Getting engaged is the biggest step in a relationship, next to getting married. You're declaring your love for this person and asking if she'll spend the rest of her life with you. Proposals are nothing to be taken lightly and should be well-planned and well-rehearsed. Ensure yours is magical by choosing a location that screams romance and intimacy — making it the most special moment to date between you and your future fiancé.

Tip: Don't hide the ring in the sand thinking she'll find it or you'll dig it out and surprise her. Too many people have lost their precious — and expensive — engagement rings this way!

The beach

The coasts of Hawaii, Fiji and even California are sure to sweep your lover off her feet. Whether planning a vacation or if you happen to live near a beach, go on a sunset walk with your lover and recap some of the best moments of your relationship. End the walk with a sunset proposal followed by dinner for two at your favorite restaurant.

Disney World

Consider a Disney-themed proposal at Florida's Disney World or California's Disneyland. There are tons of isolated nooks and crannies at both locations perfect for proposing. If you're more of a planner, you can really make your girl feel like a princess by proposing in front of Cinderella's Castle or during the nightly fireworks display. After all, Disney World really is where all your dreams come true.

On an adventurous vacation

Are you and your future fiancé the daring and risky types? If so, propose on a ski trip to Colorado or a boating trip at Lake Powell. Both locations offer amazing scenery and breathtaking views, making them prime spots for proposals. For ski-trip proposals, propose on the lift trip up the mountain; for lake proposals, we recommend doing it by the campfire.

On top of the world

Take her to new heights and take her breath away by proposing atop the Eiffel Tower. Nothing says romance like Paris, France — so the Eiffel Tower certainly won't disappoint. If Paris just isn't in your budget, there are plenty of hotels in nearly every city that have restaurants or observation decks at the top of the hotel. City lights scream romance, just like the bling you're about to put on her finger.

In a garden

If you're dating a girl who's a true romantic and wears her heart on her sleeve, don't underestimate the power of freshly-bloomed and wonderfully scented flowers. A garden proposal is perfect for this lady — as gardens symbolize both beauty and romance. With hundreds of botanical gardens nationwide, you can find a hidden beauty just about anywhere you wish.

RED HOT BOOK OF THE WEEK: The Smart One

$

Jennifer Close's second novel is a deep and honest exploration of family, which is why we've picked it as our Red Hot Book of the Week.

The Smart one cover

Jennifer Close received rave reviews for her debut novel Girls in White Dresses, and now she's back with an all-new novel. While her debut focused on the uncertainty that comes after graduating from college but not being quite ready to call yourself an adult, The Smart One closes in on what happens when you fail at adulthood. Featuring characters from her debut, but functioning as a standalone novel, The Smart One is a thoughtful look at one family coping with their own insecurities and dysfunction.

The Smart One

Louise Coffey, or Wheezy to her children, defied the expectations of everyone around her when she married kind, gentle Will. She reveled in that, the fact that she exceeded what those around her thought of her, but now it's expectations that are bringing her down. For Wheezy's three adult children are not only having trouble moving forward in life, but they all seem to be regressing by moving back to the safety and security of home, rather than facing the world on their own.

Martha had a stellar career as a nurse, but she couldn't make that work for her, so instead, at 30, she's living with her parents and working at J. Crew. Her neuroses make her difficult to cope with, so Wheezy has always been easier on Martha than on her other daughter, Claire. So when Claire — miserable, alone, and in serious debt after a breakup with her fiancé — moves back home as well, it isn't exactly a recipe for family harmony. And to make matters worse, it appears as though Max might be headed for the basement as well, complete with his girlfriend Cleo, who is beautiful but has her own quirks.

Written in an honest style, Close presents an unflinching look at the disharmony among one family. These characters may not be the easiest to like, but they're absolutely realistic; Close knows how to write characters that will resonate. Readers will laugh and cry along with each one of them as they hope Claire, Martha and Max find a way to sort out their issues and find happiness.

Study: Vaccines not linked to autism

A new study debunks myths that the current vaccine schedule is linked to autism.

autism and vaccines

It’s Autism Awareness Day, and just in time for this year’s event comes a new study that has some parents scratching their heads and others breathing a sigh of relief.

A new Journal of Pediatrics study says that children are not at an increased risk of autism if they receive the full schedule of vaccinations in a day or during the first two years of life, according to CNN.

Some parents have been delaying or scrapping vaccines out of fear the vaccines could contribute to the risk of autism.

Dr. Frank DeStefano, director of the Immunization Safety Office at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, led the research. The team assembled data on 256 children with autism spectrum disorder and 752 children without the condition, all of which were born between 1994 and 1999.

The researchers counted how many vaccines a child was given and noted how many antigens within the vaccines children were exposed to over three different time periods: birth to 3 months, birth to 7 months and during the first two years. They calculated the maximum number of antigens a child would receive over the course of a single day.

“When we compared those roughly 250 children with ASD and the roughly 750 children who did not have ASD, we found their antigen exposure, however measured, were the same,” said DeStefano. “There was no association between antigenic exposure and the development of autism.”

That's good news to help solidify the ongoing battle that vaccines can lead to autism.

“The concern around vaccines has been a very significant issue. Many parents are now deciding to wait or space out vaccines. There has been a concern that when parents are worried about whether vaccines are associated with autism that they are going to choose not to vaccinate their child,” Geraldine Dawson, the chief science officer for Autism Speaks, told TIME.

“That's one of the reasons we see this as very good news, because we hope this will reassure parents that the number of vaccines your child received during the first couple years of life is not associated with a risk in developing autism,” she added.

In Manhattan, sushi isn't just a type of cuisine, it's practically a food group. The Japanese raw-fish fix has become a staple for everyone from hedge fund managers to prep-school kids, all whom support a crowded field of sushi eateries.

Sushi me!

With so many sushi restaurants crammed into one small island, it's definitely a case of too many fish in the sea. How to choose?

We've cut out the guess work and rounded up Manhattan's cream-of-the-crop sushi spots: 10 places where you can count on the fish being just-caught fresh with chefs highly skilled in their art.

1

Blue Ribbon Sushi

If you're looking for a romantic, date-night spot, this low-lit, wood-canopied sushi house is a stellar pick. There's fantastically fresh fish , an extensive sake selection, and — perhaps best of all — late hours , perfect for extending the evening with that special someone.

2

Gari

All eyes are on the fish at this veritable "sushi theater," where virtually every seat in the house has a view of the minimalist wood bar where the chefs work their magic. Head chef Masatoshi Sugio’s innovative omakases are legendary, and the sleek, modern vibe is refreshing to find in this corner of Manhattan.

3

Jewel Bako

Sushi hand roll

The name of this downtown sushi destination means "jewel box" in Japanese, and the delicate sushi bites served are truly gems. The sushi bar seats a mere six, lending the feeling that you are being served by a private chef, though you'll be quite well attended at any of the small, candlelit tables, too .

4

Kurumazushi

If you're looking to splurge, join the Japanese power suits at this pricey but absolutely divine sushi den tucked away on the second floor of a nondescript Midtown office building. To find fresher fish, you'd have to hop a plane to Japan and catch it yourself. Toshihiro Uezu's exquisite preparations more than do it justice.

5

Nobu New York

This swank Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant is the flagship of chef Nobu Matsuhisa's worldwide empire. Since its opening in 1994, Nobu hasn’t really made any significant changes to the menu, yet it still attracts the same well-heeled crowds with its classic preparations , consistent execution and infectious energy.

Sushi

6

Sasabune

Consider yourself warned: This petite sushi shrine, the New York outpost of the beloved Los Angeles resto, revolves around the strict orders of head chef Kenji Takahashi. He doesn't allow soy sauce, won't serve California rolls or spicy tuna rolls and makes ordering omakase compulsory, but it's worth bending to his purist whims for a bite of his luscious fare.

7

Soto

Attention to detail practically runs in the veins of Sotohiro Kosugi, a third-generation sushi chef who's often seen pacing behind this zen venue’s long, blond-wood sushi bar, correcting and perfecting every dish. Luckily, the stark white surrounds don't distract in the slightest from the unparalleled flavor and painstaking presentation on the plate.

8

Sushi Azabu

Tucked beneath the Greenwich Grill, this subterranean sushi "speakeasy" offers a truly insider New York experience. Savvy locals duck in for the celebrated omakase and only-in-Japan touches like the house-made soy sauce and special blend of sushi rice. The lucky few get seats at the tiny bar, while groups covet one of the three enormous circular booths.

Pieces of sushi

9

Ushiwakamaru

The assortment of seafood picks at this under-the-radar sushi spot— many of them hard-to-find Japanese varieties — satisfy the most rarefied of sushi snobs, yet you’d be hard-pressed to find sushi of this quality in Manhattan at better prices. The unpretentious atmosphere and great mix of village folk add to the appeal.

10

Morimoto

Drama abounds in this chic Japanese restaurant, and not only because the Iron Chef himself — Masaharu Morimoto — is the man behind the magic. Once you make your way past the huge curtains and into the modern two-story space, expect to be wowed by an installation of 17,000 illuminated water bottles and plates that dazzle with color, flavor and presentation.

Music review: Kelly Clarkson feat. Vince Gill "Don't Rush"

$
0

Up for Vocal Event of the Year at the ACMs, Kelly and Vince's collaboration has a charmingly smooth vibe.

Kelly Clarkson

If Kelly Clarkson wasn't such a sweetheart, I would say she's a player.

Why?

Well, it seems everything she touches turns to gold, and everyone she collaborates sounds like a musical marriage that we should've seen coming. Hey, who knows, maybe musical polygamy can be the new thing.

Have you heard? The ladies love Miss Clarkson>>

Her latest highlighted conquest is with country star Vince Gill, thanks to their nomination for "Vocal Event of the Year" at this year's Academy of Country Music Awards.

Garnering attention both from fans who watched the performance of the single at the CMAs and myself, this single has the charm of a country song but an effortlessness reminiscent of the famed Bee Gees.

Who else is nominated this year at the ACMs?>>

Dare I call this a country oldie?

Yes, I dare. It's a medley that you can envision yourself driving down the highway to in your convertible, wind blowing through your hair, and a lover by your side. It has the homely warmth you would expect from a country song but the upbeat and spirited nature of the '70s. There is wisdom in the past and Kelly and Vince have found a way to tap into that and place a mature overtone amidst this romantic hit.

Sure, it's not like the Jason Aldean duet "Don't You Wanna Stay" but at the same time it's not even comparable. Country music has so many different facets, and this collaboration shows the different  hats she can wear.

I kid. But in all seriousness, Kelly sounds a bit timid and it's a different sound for her. I commend her constantly for powerful anthems that get a rise out of your soul even when it's gone into hibernation from pain. I take a step back now, looking at this American Idol alum with a new respect. She's a chameleon, who can conform to musicians and complement them seamlessly which you can hear in full force by the time the chorus emerges.

In a quote featured in The Tennessean, Clarkson mentions, "It’s sexy retro-country, and as soon I heard it, I put the song on hold. My goal as a singer is to capture the sentiment of a song and emote what the feeling is."

Kelly is quite patriotic, isn't she?>>

Don't think for a second I forgot about Vince Gill. Props to him, too! It's not exactly an easy feat to sound so youthful when you were born in 1957 and your female musical counterpart is a 1982 baby. Age clearly isn't nothing but a number, and their feat hopefully is rewarded this year at the awards ceremony! They are certainly strong contenders, because quite frankly how could you not be swooning for this?

The track was produced by Dann Huff, and written by Blu Sanders, Natalie Hemby and Lindsay Chapman.

Looking to transition your makeup essentials from winter to spring? We asked Target Beauty design partner Petra Strand about the best products, trends and tips for women so you can be in the know about what's hot this spring!

Awaken your look this spring

Looking to transition your makeup essentials from winter to spring? We asked Target Beauty design partner Petra Strand about the best products, trends and tips for women so you can be in the know about what's hot this spring!

She Knows: What are your favorite makeup trends this spring?

Petra Strand: I love that the traditional black smoky eye look is seeing some color variations. Jewel tones look fresh and new. My Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen in Copper Glow is new for spring and shows that color can be both natural and exciting, drawing attention to the eyes and making them brighter and more awake.

For lips, I love a pop of color to brighten the face this spring. The Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in Rosy Red is flying out of our London store this spring. It provides the perfect mix of rose-tinted lips with a hint of red undertone. It also looks great on cheeks!

SK: If you had to recommend a new popular product, what would it be?

PS: The BB Cream trend here in the U.S. is a bit confusing for customers as there is such a varied range of quality available out there. I recommend really studying the ingredients listings to get the best value and to see what will work best for your skin. Our Pixi Illuminating Tint & Conceal has been our most popular multitasker for many years and, in a way, was one of the original BB Creams, except we included the concealer!

SK: What products can women use to achieve a soft and effortless look?

PS: You can look polished and put together with six products, that’s all you need — especially if you use multitasking products!

  • Tinted moisturizer and concealer
  • Mascara
  • Cheek gel
  • Tinted lip gloss
  • Eye pencil
  • Eyelash curler

Pixi makeup -- Spring picks

SK: Are there any new products in your line that could spice up someone’s makeup collection?

PS: The EXTRA Eye Bright Liner is new for spring, and is my secret weapon to looking refreshed in an instant. Line inner bottom rim with this lavender-tinted pencil, which deflects the red in eyes and makes anyone look more awake immediately.

The Endless Silky Eye Pen in Copper Glow is also a great alternative to the normal black or brown eye liner that most women use. It’s the perfect "new neutral."

SK: What is your favorite shade of lipstick this spring?

PS: For a spring holiday, I take the Pixi Succulent Lip Twin in Pink Peony and use as my cheek and lip color. The shade looks fantastic with a tan! For evening, I like a lip stain as it is low maintenance and doesn’t require reapplication all evening. Pixi Lip Blush in Youth is my favorite!

SK: How do you still go bold with your spring makeup and not look like you’re stuck in the fall/winter trends?

PS: The best way to go bold for spring is to choose seasonally appropriate shades. Bright corals in all variations look fresh for spring — the Pixi Nail Colour Summer Sunset in my spring collection is a great option for women who want to ease into the trend. For a more natural look, seashell pinks and bronze are always great for spring. They add just a hint of color to awaken the face and bring out women’s natural beauty.

SK: Why has coconut water become a popular beauty product ingredient?

PS: Women in tropical climates have used coconut water in their skin care routine for centuries. It helps create lysine, which is an important ingredient in the formation of collagen, hence a great anti-aging ingredient.

Coconut water also hydrates inside and out. Drinking it every day enhances hydration and blood circulation, which puts the "glow" on your face. Using it on the skin does the same thing. I like the new Pacifica Purify Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes.
