The Royal Family Reportedly Asked Princess Eugenie to Postpone Her Wedding

Updated Jan. 24, 2018, 12:30 p.m. PT: In addition to having their own royal wedding in the same year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are apparently causing more problems, as Harry's cousin, Princess Eugenie, tries to plan to tie the knot with Jack Brooksbank.

According to the Daily Mail, Eugenie was eyeing September for her wedding, but the royal family asked her to postpone until October because Harry and Markle will be on a royal tour for the month of September.

"There is talk of a number of foreign tours for Prince Harry and Miss Markle this year, and September is a date that has been mooted. There is nothing concrete yet, but it looks as if Eugenie and Jack will go for October instead," a source explained.

Brooksbank's grandmother confirmed the news.

"I do know that they’re now not going to get married in September," she said. "He [Jack] said ‘We can’t get married in September now so we will have to get married in October.' They [the Royal family] have got something else going on then I think so they couldn’t. So he just said that if they can’t get married in September they will have to get married in October."

Can you imagine trying to plan a wedding with the added stress of having to coordinate travel schedules for a family like the British royals? Good luck to Princess Eugenie. It sounds like she may need it.

Original story, published Jan. 22, 2018: Who knew that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren't the only royals planning to tie the knot this year? Princess Eugenie, the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, just announced her engagement, and her wedding will have a few things in common with Harry and Markle's.

Eugenie and her new fiancé, Jack Brooksbank, announced their happy news Monday, Jan. 21, closely followed by the traditional celebratory engagement photo shoot. Seriously, check out that rock, which bears a real resemblance to the one worn by Eugenie's mom's, the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson.

There's no date set for this royal wedding yet, but E! News reports it's set for this fall, and the couple will tie the knot at St. George's Chapel in Windsor, the same place where Harry and Markle are having their May wedding.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip released a statement saying they are "very pleased" and "wish the couple the best," though Eugenie's fiancé probably wasn't subject to the same royal approval process as Markle — Eugenie is only eighth in line for the throne. Both Eugenie's and Brooksbank's parents, though, sound thrilled.

"Jack is an absolutely outstanding young man and Eugenie and he have got to know each other over a number of years, and I'm really thrilled for them," Eugenie's father, the Duke of York, said. "I am just completely overjoyed for them and wish them every happiness."

Brooksbank's parents said in a statement that they are "completely over the moon" and "very excited."

"We could not be more delighted with the news of the engagement," they added.

Congrats to the future royal newlyweds!

How to Clean a Burned Pot With Supplies You Already Have

We've all been guilty of paying too little attention when cooking, and if you're unlucky, it may have landed you with a seriously scorched pot or pan. And there's nothing that puts a downer on dinner quite like knowing you've got a seared pan waiting for your attention during dishes.

Scrubbing a burned pot is pretty much the last thing you want to do at the end of the day, and it seems like it's always a futile effort, anyway — but we promise you it's not. Even the most scorched pot is usually salvageable. We've got a few tried-and-true methods you can use to make a burned or boiled-over pot look as good as new again.

Supplies:

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • Double-sided sponge

Directions:

Step 1

Fill the pot or pan with a layer of water. The amount of water you use will vary based on the depth of the pot and the area of the stain. You want the water level to be at or near the height of the stain while still providing enough room for the addition of vinegar and baking soda.

More: How to Save Overcooked Meat So Your Dinner Isn't Ruined

Add about a cup of vinegar to the pot, again adjusting the amount of vinegar based on the depth of the pot and the area of the stain. For very large burns, add more vinegar. For smaller burns or shallower pans, add less.

Next: Step 2

A version of this article was originally published in December 2011.

Step 2

Place the pot or pan on the stove, and bring the mixture to a boil. It shouldn't take long before you start to notice a difference in the stain's appearance.

Step 3

Take the pot or pan off the burner, and turn off the stove. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda to the mix. Allow the baking soda to fizz and do its work for a few minutes before emptying the mixture from the pot.

Step 4

Scrub the pot with the abrasive side of your sponge. You may need to scrub for 30 to 45 seconds, but the burnt spots should come up fairly easily. If the spots are especially stubborn, sprinkle a little dry baking soda on top of them to help abrade the burn marks away. When you're satisfied that the pot is clean, rinse it thoroughly — it should look as good as new.

How to Deal With Finances in a Relationship

$

0

I’ve been married for nearly 10 years now. In that time, my husband and I have lived with my mother, barely scraped by on one paycheck, lived below our means with two decent incomes and flipped back to being one-income earners. All of which is to say we've had a lot of practice talking about money.

To be clear, we’ve also had our share of arguments and hurt feelings over money too. When we first got married, I was the textbook saver and he leaned toward being a spender. I wish we’d had better resources to know not just how to budget, but how to talk to each other about our budgets so we’d have been better able to understand where the other was coming from.

We certainly weren’t alone in our struggles. A 2017 study by LearnVest found that 68 percent of couples had more serious issues with money than their sex lives. The same study found that less than half of Americans felt comfortable sharing issues they were having with their personal finances with their partner.

Why is it so hard to talk about money? Ashley Feinstein, life coach and owner of The Fiscal Femme, has an answer. “I think one of the big reasons is that we equate our self-worth with our net worth.” When we believe our debt or our ability to budget makes us good or bad people, we’re less likely to share where we’re struggling or what we value. And that’s really what money is in many ways: an allocation of values.

When & how to start talking about money

“I think it’s so important to communicate with each other,” Maggie Germano, a financial education instructor and financial coach, tells me. “Money is a huge part of life and it really touches on everything.” Where you want to go on vacation. That’s a money conversation. Where you want to live. How you want to decorate your home. Where and how often you want to go out to eat. All at least in part money conversations."

More: 10 Relationship Podcasts Everyone Should Listen To

The good news is these can be excellent low-stakes places to start conversations about cash flow. “It doesn’t have to be like, ‘Let’s lay out our assets and look at all the numbers,’” Feinstein says. “I think it’s fun to start the conversation by dreaming a little bit.” Talking about your goals and plans for the future, even the ones that don’t necessarily seem to be tied to your investment plans, can be an easy entry point.

Germano, for example, found herself having to have a conversation with her partner early on because he was more of a spender than she was, and she found herself coming close to missing her own personal goals trying to keep up with his spending. “Get on the same page about how often you want to go out to eat or travel so that one person doesn’t feel overwhelmed by the spending or intimidated or even resentful,” she says.

When to start merging your finances & budgeting together

When to start merging accounts is again dependent on the couple, though your finances are most likely to start getting tied together when you share a living space or get married. Or you might have a joint goal you’re working toward, like saving for a vacation.

More: 7 Bad Habits That Can Ruin Your Relationship

Once you’ve decided you want to start merging your money together, if you haven’t already, start to share your own financial background and ask about theirs. Any debts the two of you have, Germano says, should be out on the table, as well as how much each of you makes every month. You should also share the details of the money going out every month, like gym memberships or subscription services.

There’s no right way to split accounts or set up a budget. You may decide to share one account, have totally separate accounts or some mixture of the two. The most important thing, according to Feinstein, is accountability: Someone needs to be checking in on the accounts to be sure you’re both staying on track. “I think a huge part of the battle is just knowing where [your money] is going,” she says. “Then you might notice, ‘Oh, I’m not even getting any joy from that,’ and then it’s easy to let go of it.” She does think a separate savings account is key, though, “whether it’s joint or separate, so that your money is out of sight, out of mind.”

Beyond that, you probably already know how to make a spreadsheet and figure out what your fixed expenses are. Once you’ve tracked expenses and set goals for future spending, Feinstein recommends having recurring “money dates,” preferably every two weeks, to review spending and see if the budget is working for both of you. If it’s not, ask questions. Was it a one-off issue, like increased transportation costs because of bad weather? Was it too restrictive? Did it bring up negative feelings?

“The number part of money is actually really simple, which is funny because that’s what we focus on,” Feinstein says. “The really hard part is that emotional-behavioral part.”

The money dates, Feinstein says, should be fun, so try to keep them light. Be especially aware if you find yourself falling into one person acting as a kind of disciplinarian over the budget. The point is to stay open and honest, not to judge. “The whole point of having that conversation is to avoid any drama, to avoid any judgment and to get your cards all out on the table,” Germano says.

More: 6 Signs You're Ready to Buy Your First Home

Should you have your own separate cash?

Both Germano and Feinstein say they also saw a lot of value in having separate pools of money, whether they were in separate accounts or otherwise, that could be spent at each person in the couple’s discretion.

“I definitely am a proponent, especially for women, to keep their own stash of money in their own spending account, and that’s really because if you’re earning money, you should be able to spend it,” Germano says. Of course, she says it has to be within reason.

Feinstein has an easy way to set expectations for what “within reason” means. “Have a threshold for spending that you choose,” she says. “So it could be $100, $25, $500. [It’s] a number at which you would confer with your partner before spending.”

Ultimately, working out how you want to spend your money as a couple should be a positive thing. “I call budgets happiness allocations because I feel like it’s a much better description of what they are,” Feinstein says. “[It’s] thinking about what works for each couple based on what’s happened in their money life, their experience, what’s going to motivate them the most.”

Short, Nontraditional Middle Names for Girls

If you're from a certain generation, you can probably take a few guesses and manage to land on the middle names of most of your friends. Ann, Lynn, Lee, Marie, Elizabeth, Rose or Grace are all pretty good bets. Maybe you even have one of these middle names yourself. While they're beautiful and often represent a family lineage, you have plenty of options if you're looking for something different.

More: Cute Girl Names You'll Love

We chose the names ahead because they're on the shorter side but still totally beautiful, which makes them ideal for pairing with a huge number of first names.

Often, longer first names work well with shorter middle names, but sometimes, parents simply prefer grouping names with a similar sound. For example, if you're planning to name your baby Isabella, you might consider a short middle name like Flo or Bree or even something more creative, like Snow. Or if you're planning to name her Charlotte, you might consider a middle name with the same number of syllables, such as Joelle, Regan, Vada or Kyra.

MorePrintable Guide to Solve Your Baby-Naming Squabbles

While we have included a few more traditional choices below, like May, most of these names are a little off-the-beaten path and may inspire you to stray even further from the path as you assemble your baby name list. Also, there's no reason these wouldn't make a perfect first name, either.

Meryl Streep Is Joining Big Little Lies for Season 2, & We're Not OK

Updated Jan. 24, 2018, 2:30 p.m. PT: Are you sitting down? Because I have some amazing news to tell you: Meryl Streep is coming to Big Little Lies.

Deadline was among the first to announce on Wednesday that Streep would be joining the heavily-awarded HBO hit series. The outlet also confirmed Streep would be tackling one of the most tantalizing new characters slated to join the series, Perry's mother, Mary Louis Wright. Oh gosh, you can practically feel the WASP-iness dripping off that name. Will Mary Louise be wearing pearls when we meet her? Will she prefer an afternoon drink? Will she be a grandma who smothers her grandkids? All we know right now is that Mary Louise is coming to Monterey shortly after Perry's murder, which means she will no doubt be sniffing around for answers. This can only lead to one thing. Major. Drama.

The same day as the announcement, Big Little Lies star Nicole Kidman (who plays Perry's widow) took to her Instagram to post her own warm welcome to Streep using a photo of them from the 2018 SAG Awards. Look at this costar love unfolding right before our eyes:

kidman streep instagram

kidman streep instagram

Streep was recently nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award for her performance as Katherine Graham in The Post. This will be her first major TV role in six years, following a short recurring arc on the TV series Web Therapy and before that as part of HBO's 2003 adaptation of Tony Kushner's epic play Angels in America.

Original story, published Jan. 8, 2018: With Big Little Lies freshly minted as both a major award-winning drama and also a formidable and addictive show that promises drama in every moment, there's a lot of speculation about how the show will stick the landing in Season 2. With expectations high, it's only fair to expect Season 2 to pack and even bigger emotional wallop as new situations come together and new tensions are brought out into the open.

More: Am I the Only One Who Found Big Little Lies Boring & Weird?

And now, in this post-Golden Globes glow, we have some more exciting news about Big Little Lies Season 2 that all but confirms things are going to take a dramatic turn. Big Little Lies executive producer (and Season 1 director) Jean-Marc Vallée teased a new character coming to Monterey while speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Golden Globes.

"[T]here’s a new character coming," Vallée began. "Perry's mother, that’s all I can say.”

BLL S2 Could Get Ugly GIF

Oh, it may not sound like that juicy a sound-bite, but believe you me, if Perry was anything like his mother, then his mother is one heck of a pill. We don't know that much about Perry's life growing up, nor do we know anything about his parents or the kind of marriage they had. The arrival of Perry's mother will surely add some intensity to Celeste's storylines, as Celeste is likely still grappling with the fallout of Perry's death and beginning her life afresh with her twin boys.

More: Is Big Little Lies Season 2 Actually a Good Idea?

And no matter what Perry's mother is like personality-wise, it feels almost guaranteed she is going to be nosing around Monterey and Celeste's friend group for answers about what happened to her son. When we left them in Season 1, it felt like the women had pulled off the perfect cover-up; it's highly unlikely their facade will remain intact in Season 2. Something is going to feel amiss, and if Big Little Lies has proven anything to us in the past, it's that a mother always knows when something is wrong with her child.

Basically, Celeste's life just got way more complicated.

BLL Season 2 Celeste Crying

More: Big Little Lies Almost Didn't Get Made, Because Sexism

There's no word yet on who will play Perry's mother, and I'll have to go one step further and shoot down your hopes of speculative casting, because nobody's appeared to even be in talks or auditioning (that we know of). Even without a face to put to the name, it's hard not to feel your blood run cold just thinking about what lies ahead for Celeste and Co. when Perry's mother arrives.

Jessica Simpson Is Being Sued Over an Instagram Post

Jessica Simpson has unwittingly found herself in hot water after posting something on Instagram that it seems she shouldn't have posted. It may seem like a bit of an odd situation because the photo Simpson posted was one of herself. The only problem was that she didn't take it.

More: Mom-Shamers Attack Jessica Simpson for Sexy Photo

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Simpson posted a photo used by the Daily Mail that was originally taken by a photographer from Splash News and Picture Agency. Now, it appears Splash News wants to pursue legal recourse because they claim Simpson never obtained permission to use the photo. It should be noted, though, that Splash did grant the Daily Mail a limited license to publish the photo in August 2017.

Attorney Peter Perkowski, presumably working on behalf of Splash News, wrote in the complaint filed to a California federal court on Tuesday, Jan. 23 that "Simpson or someone acting on her behalf copied the Photograph and distributed it on Instagram — within hours of its original publication on August 9, 2017. The copy of the Photograph that Simpson distributed on Instagram had been altered, without authorization or approval, to remove the CMI showing plaintiff as the copyright owner of the image."

More: Newlyweds-Era Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey Were Actually Incompatible

Perkowski additionally writes in the claim that Simpson posting the photo of her own accord on her Instagram has hurt the potential profitability of the photo and the ability for Splash News to further distribute the photo to other outlets.

"Simpson’s Instagram post and Twitter tweet made the Photograph immediately available to her nearly 11.5 million followers and others, consumers of entertainment news — and especially news and images of Simpson herself, as evidenced by their status as followers of her — who would otherwise be interested in viewing licensed versions of the Photograph in the magazines and newspapers that are plaintiff’s customers."

Simpson hasn't released an official statement about the lawsuit at the time of reporting. Lawsuits like these are becoming increasingly common these days. Recent cases of a similar nature to Simpson's include Khloé Kardashian and Sofia Richie, who have faced similar legal issues after posting paparazzi photos to their personal social media accounts.

What It's Like to Get Your Period in a Wheelchair

$
0
0

I remember the first time I got my period. It was 1995, and I was just 13. My mom, on her way out the door to a meeting, rushed into the bathroom and matter-of-factly helped me put a pad on and said, "We can talk more about this when I get home!"

But surprisingly, we didn't need to talk more. I'd learned all about menstruation in junior high health class, so I knew what to expect. And honestly, compared to my physical disability and the 20-plus surgeries I'd had, a little bleeding once a month seemed like a piece of cake.

Well, until it wasn't.

A couple of years ago, my periods became very heavy and very irregular. It wasn't until then, after having a monthly visitor for some 20 years, it finally hit me: Having your period as a woman with a physical disability presents its own set of unique — and sometimes frustrating — challenges.

More: 2017 Was a Big Year for Periods on TV

So why was I just coming to this realization now, I wondered? For one thing, how women deal with having their period while also living day-to-day with a disability isn't something that's openly talked about. Women with disabilities aren't automatically included in that conversation, but it's important they are included. Here are three things I wish people knew along with a surprising side effect I never expected...

There's a whole range of logistics to figure out

Periods are inconvenient, period (pun intended...). They can show up unexpectedly and are just generally uncomfortable, but I've found that my disability adds another layer of logistics to the equation. I physically need help with day-to-day tasks, such as bathing, dressing and cooking; my period is no exception. Because I need someone to help me, especially when I have my period, I have to plan activities around my cycle and make sure that if I go out during that time, someone will be with me to help.

More: Yes, People With Disabilities Do Have Sex & Deserve Sex Ed

There are some uncomfortable days of sitting

I use a wheelchair and can only walk short distances with a walker, so I spend most of the time sitting. When I get my period, those endless days of sitting (hello, cramps!) can be pretty uncomfortable. Plus, my limited mobility makes exercise difficult, which makes relieving those cramps even harder.

There are limitations when it comes to products

I'll be the first to admit that my physical disability has given me quite the unique body. And truth be told, period products have never really been disability-friendly. Tampons are out of the question for me because of my physical limitations, so I must rely on pads exclusively. I can't help but feel like I'm still living in the Dark Ages every time I'm forced to wear one of those bulky pads. Modern medicine and science have come a long way; you'd think products for women with disabilities would have too.

And a surprise bonus

And... the surprising positive? Every month, my period reminds me that my body is still normal. For me, part of being disabled has meant coming to terms with the fact that my body isn't normal and never will be. My legs and hands are deformed. I have surgical scars all over. And my legs and back are fused, which makes moving quite the experience.

More: Why My Disability Strengthened My Relationship With My Mom

Over the years, I've come to view my body as just different — not different in a bad way, but certainly not like anyone else's. But thanks to my monthly visitor, I don't feel as different from other women my age. As odd as that sounds, I feel like I'm included for once instead of standing on the outside and looking at other people's lives, lives that are so different from mine. Maybe I'm not so abnormal after all. Now, if only someone would invent an alternative to those bulky pads...

A Fashion Editor’s Best Budget & Saving Tips for a Gorgeous Wardrobe

On one hand, I would like to think I’m a frugal spender. I love vintage shopping; my favorite pieces were thrifted for under $1; and I’m not a label snob. But on the other hand, I have never met a Chanel bag I didn’t want to immediately own. So, how do you live in the best of both worlds — budgeting, saving and still dress according to this season’s trend report? Below are 10 tips I live by that are guaranteed to help you put a couple of extra bucks into your savings account (or your future purse fund… either way, we don’t judge.)

Do your research

Before you swipe your card, do your research. Is there a major holiday coming up? Because that means there will be a sale. Is it sold somewhere cheaper, like a major retail store, or can you get a new or loyal customer discount? Or does a different brand make a very similar item for a better price? Take a few extra minutes before purchasing something and see if you can save some money.

Resale, rent & repeat

These are the words to live by, and it can be done with the click of a button. There are countless resale websites like The RealReal, Vestiaire Collective, ThredUp, Poshmark, Depop, Rebag and Tradesy where you can buy and sell your clothing. Looking for that piece that got away from last season and sold out? It might be on your Poshmark app for a fraction of the price.

Now, let’s talk about the new world of renting. Places like Rent the Runway have completely changed the game for special-event or even ready-to-wear dressing. You are able to rent a dress at a hugely discounted price, wear it, return it and bam — no more one-time-use dresses taking up valuable closet space.

Best Budget and Saving Tips for your Wardrobe | SheKnows

Buy trend items from fast-fashion websites & stores

Do not shell out a small fortune on a trend item that will most likely be out of style within a year. Instead, buy these items at the trend-focused fast-fashion stores for significantly less money. You’ll save money on the purchase, and if you end up not liking the trend or don’t wear it the following season, no worries. This is also a great way to try out new trends like cropped jeans, off-the-shoulder tops or loafer slides, and if you do like the item, you can later invest in a more expensive pair down the road.

More: Simple Steps to Declutter Your Closet

Low-price-point layering pieces

Don’t spend hundreds of dollars on a layering piece, like a turtleneck or basic tee. You can buy these at many retailers for a great price or stock up on one in every color from a fast-fashion store. They are easy to replace if needed, and you can use that money on more special items you want in your closet, like a cool coat, shoes or designer sunnies.

Skip the one-night stands

As in… don’t buy an item you’re only going to wear one night and never wear again. We know you’re a busy lady with multiple wedding seasons, vacations, events and a much-needed date night. Instead of buying for the event, buy for the investment. Are you realistically going to wear this dress again and can you style it for the office or a weekend use as well? If not, we suggest renting a dress, borrowing from a friend or buying something a little simpler that you can wear over and over again.

Shop off-season

Clearance is music to my ears. At the end of every season, the clothes go on major discount, and you can find items for basically pennies (OK, maybe not pennies, but it sure feels like it!). Even though you’ll be purchasing items in advance, like bikinis in December or coats in May, your wallet will be thanking you when that season rolls around. Prices are always the most expensive going into the season and will gradually be discounted throughout the season, ending with a big clearance sale to get rid of merchandise. These clearance sales will allow you to stock up on items now and save later.

Best Budget and Saving Tips for your Wardrobe | SheKnows

Shop in the men’s section

In case you didn’t know, men’s clothing is cheaper. We hate them for this too, but why not reap the benefits? Their basic tees are cheap and can have that perfectly oversize feel you’re looking for. You can create true boyfriend jeans, and don’t even get me started on sweaters. Pro tip: I normally buy my white and black tees in the men’s bulk packs, like Hanes, Jockey or Calvin Klein. They’re cheaper and last me way longer since I can rotate them out. Plus, the fabric is typically more durable than the almost see-through white tee for $85.

Become besties with your tailor

Sometimes, when you shop in the sale section or consignment/resale, the item might not be in your size, but it’s... The. Only. One. Snag it up and get it tailored. The tailor’s bill plus your purchase price will still be cheaper than buying it at the beginning of the season.

Best Budget and Saving Tips for your Wardrobe | SheKnows

Thrift, consignment, swap meets, & flea markets are your friends

Now, we totally hear you; secondhand is not for everyone. Personally, I love it, and that was the only way I could afford to shop during high school and college, but it takes some courage, a dry cleaner and an open mind. I have found vintage, originals of the retro “trend” items like fanny packs, oversize sunnies, belts, high-waisted jeans and so much more.

Start shopping at the back of the store

When you walk into a store, walk to the back of the store, start with the sale items, and then work your way forward. You might find very similar styles in the sale area that were recut for a newer style in a different color. The stores are set up so you stop and shop at the front displays, the items that are big sellers, etc., but to save a little money, start with the sale items and then go from there. You might be pleasantly surprised at how much you find and save.

How I Met Your Mother may have just ended in 2014, but there's basically been talk of bringing the show back for a spinoff series ever since it ended. And while that is all well and good for us fans who aren't ready to let it go just yet, Cobie Smulders, for one, isn't quite ready to jump back into the shoes of her beloved character, Robin Scherbatsky.

In an exclusive interview with SheKnows, Smulders explained her thoughts on a spinoff.

"Of course I would be interested in working with those lovely people again, who I miss very much," she said. "But we did it for nine years. We did it for a long time, so I don't know. I know that people love the show. I just think maybe we need to take some more time off before approaching anything like that. And there are so many reboots happening right now, maybe we just need a little bit more time. But, of course, I would love to work with all those folks again. I miss them all so much."

In fact, Smulders revealed she still keeps in touch with the gang.

"[Over the holidays,] Neil [Patrick Harris] just sent a giant gingerbread house to my house," Smulders revealed. "We're all still in touch, and I love them all very much."

She added, "Everyone still gets along and hangs out."

As for a Robin Sparkles spinoff series? Well, don't get your hopes up for more, "Let's Go to the Mall" glory.

How I Met Your Mother Robin Sparkles

"A series?!" Smulders said when we asked for her thoughts on a show about Robin's teenage pop star persona. "We could maybe do, like, a special. Like a one-episode special. A series? I think we would run out of material pretty quick. I don't know. I think it's so silly! I would do it for, like, the benefit of charity or something like that."

Larry Nassar Gets 'Death Warrant' for Molesting Young Gymnasts

Updated Jan. 23, 2018, 7:50 a.m. PT: After a marathon seven-day sentencing hearing at which more than 150 women and girls spoke about the abuse they faced at the hands of former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, his sentence has finally been passed down. Nassar has been sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison. This is in addition to the 60 years he faces for a prior child pornography case, and he still faces sentencing for sexual abuse in another county.

Knowing Nassar will now very likely to die in prison, Judge Rosemarie Aquilina, who made headlines for allowing all of Nassar's 160 accused victims who wished to speak at his sentencing do so even though he pleaded guilty to abusing only seven of them, told Nassar in the courtroom, "I just signed your death warrant."

After his sentence was handed down, Nassar attempted to apologize to his victims, many of whom filled the courtroom still. Turning to face them, he said, "Your words these past several days have had a significant effect on myself and have shaken me to my core. I will carry your words with me for the rest of my days."

However, Aquilina countered with a letter Nassar wrote to her just this week complaining about his treatment and accusing his victims of seeking media attention and money. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned," he wrote in his letter.

"This letter tells me you have not yet owned what you did," Aquilina said to him. "You still think somehow you are right, you’re a doctor, that you’re entitled, so you don’t have to listen. That you did 'treatment.' I wouldn’t send my dogs to you, sir."

Original story, published Jan. 10, 2017: Eighteen women have filed a lawsuit against USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University physician Larry Nassar accusing him of multiple counts of sexual assault, battery, molestation and harassment.

More: Miss Teen USA Scandal Is Exactly Why We Need to Monitor Kids' Social Media

A majority of the women were minors at the time of the abuse according to People. Some are still underage. They were from various sports including gymnastics, swimming, figure skating, track and field, hockey, basketball and soccer.

Nassar reportedly committed the crimes by saying the acts were done as medical treatment or physical therapy between the years of 1996 and 2016.

Nassar was charged with two counts of child pornography-related charges less than a month ago. People also reports Nassar was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting two underage gymnasts just a few weeks before that.

The only victim who has been named thus far is Rachael Denhollander. She said in a 2016 interview with IndyStar that Nassar massaged her breasts and penetrated her with his fingers while she was receiving treatment for back pain. She was only 15 years old at the time.

She told reporters on Tuesday, "The fear and shame in myself was my own misunderstanding. The reality of sexual abuse is that a pedophile is only as powerful as people around him allow him to be."

Nassar has worked for USA Gymnastics for 29 years and was held in high regard by the organization for decades, the suit reports.

"When we first learned of athlete concerns regarding Dr. Nassar in the summer of 2015, we immediately notified the FBI and relieved him of any further assignments," the organization reports.

But the lawsuit claims USA Gymnastics failed to notify Michigan State University of its concerns and was, therefore, "grossly negligent."

Michigan State University didn't fire Nassar until September 2016.

The university said in a statement, "We are deeply disturbed by the state and federal criminal charges against Larry Nassar, and our hearts go out to those directly affected."

More: Women Are Kicking Ass at the Olympics — So Why Is the Coverage So Condescending?

In a Tuesday news conference, the plaintiffs' attorney, Stephen Drew, explained the purpose of the lawsuit is not monetary gain, but rather to "act as a mechanism to achieve institutional change and non-monetary concessions so that acts of sexual abuse like this will never happen again to young athletes and students."

He added, "Protecting them is more important than enhancing the reputation of the athletic system that invites their participation. Children are vulnerable because they trust, and once that trust and innocence is stolen it cannot be easily restored."

Nassar has reportedly pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Flu Increases Your Risk of Having a Heart Attack

This year's flu season is no joke, already claiming the lives of at least 30 children. Getting the flu shot is definitely the way to go, but it's no guarantee you won't come down with the dreaded virus. And now, more grim news: New research has found that having the flu virus significantly increases your risk of having a heart attack.

Specifically, a new study by researchers at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences and Public Health Ontario found that chances of a heart attack increase sixfold during the first seven days after detection of laboratory-confirmed influenza infection.

More: When Is the Best Time to Get a Flu Shot?

“Our findings are important because an association between influenza and acute myocardial infarction reinforces the importance of vaccination,” Dr. Jeff Kwong, a scientist at ICES and PHO and lead author of the study said in a statement.

The study, which was published in The New England Journal of Medicine found a significant association between acute respiratory infections (the flu in particular) and acute myocardial infarction — better known as a heart attack. The risk is especially high among older adults who have the influenza B strain of the flu, and another reason why getting the flu vaccine is so important for that age group.

“Our findings, combined with previous evidence that influenza vaccination reduces cardiovascular events and mortality, support international guidelines that advocate for influenza immunization in those at high risk of a heart attack,” says Kwong.

Aside from getting the flu shot, the major takeaway from this research is that those who are already at risk for a heart attack should take extra precautions during flu season, including washing their hands frequently. Additionally, the researchers recommend seeing a doctor immediately if you are in the first week of the flu and are experiencing heart attack symptoms. And despite the fact that flu season is very much underway, it's still not too late to get the flu shot.

Tummy Trouble? Stressed? A Probiotic Might Do You Good

If you’ve entered a drugstore, browsed a grocery store aisle or engaged in any kind of health-minded conversation over the past few years, you’re at least semi-familiar with probiotics. These microorganisms have become an increasingly common topic of medical interest and research thanks to their potential to support many aspects of health and wellness.

Here’s how it works: Your gut — or more formally, your gastrointestinal tract — contains over 500 bacterial species that work together to facilitate digestion, support the immune system and more. Probiotics are naturally occurring “good” bacteria that live in your gut. When the balance between healthy and not-so-healthy bacteria gets out of whack, things can go awry. You might notice this in the form of occasional tummy trouble, changes in mood or even in the appearance of your skin.

That’s where probiotic supplements come in. There's scientific evidence that shows the right strains of bacteria can positively impact overall health. From lactobacilli to promote vaginal health to Saccharomyces boulardii when you’re playing tourist, here’s what to look for.

For medication use

Some medications, like antibiotics, work by killing bacteria. The trouble is they don’t differentiate between good and bad bacteria. This means certain medications can reduce the good bacteria in your gut, throwing your microbiome — your internal ecosystem — off balance and allowing undesirable bacteria to overgrow. Probiotics are useful for restoring healthy microbial balance, provided they are formulated on clinical research showing efficacy.

For digestive health

Gas, bloating or a disruption in your daily bowel habits are all common signs of an unbalanced gut microbiome. Your intestines absorb nutrients from food, but they also form a critical barrier that keeps out unwanted microorganisms, which can impact digestive health. Probiotics play an important role in maintaining intestinal barrier integrity by preventing bad bacteria from colonizing the gastrointestinal tract, and they help in the production of essential nutrients like vitamin B12 and vitamin K.*

For immune health

During the winter months, weather changes and more time indoors can make it harder for your immune system to stay up to snuff. Because approximately 70% of your immune system lives in your gut, a daily probiotic — like HMF Super Powder — can contribute to a healthy immune system.*

For staying healthy at school

In a recent clinical trial, HMF Fit for School — a chewable probiotic for kids containing four different probiotic strains as well as vitamin C and vitamin D —  significantly supported upper respiratory health in school children when compared to a placebo.*

For pregnancy

A healthy microbiome is just as important for a mother as it is for her baby. Taking probiotics during pregnancy — with a doctor’s approval, of course — can not only support a pregnant woman's digestive and vaginal health, but it may contribute to a healthy microbiome in newborns.*

For mood and cognitive health

There’s early science to suggest that the microbiome affects our brain. Because the brain and gut “talk” to each other, there’s growing evidence showing that probiotics can impact impact mood and cognitive health.*

For travel troubles

You’ve been looking forward to your meticulously planned trip abroad for months only to have your good time disturbed by a none-too-cooperative stomach. Whether it’s the result of jet lag, stress or unfamiliar food and water, you may find some support in your carry-on if you pack HMF Travel, which contains Saccharomyces boulardii and four other proprietary probiotic strains to support gastrointestinal health while you're on-the-go.* Unlike some formulas, which require refrigeration, this formula is shelf-stable, so it will maintain its potency when you’re far from home.

Before you begin taking any type of probiotic, speak with your doctor and/or pharmacist about whether it is safe and right for you.

The Pink Medley Tea Latte is made with a Teavana tea blend called Joyful Medley, which is where it gets its pink color. As far as flavor goes, it’s made with black, jasmine and oolong tea with a splash of peach and strawberry flavors. According to Sora News 24, where the staff was lucky enough to try it for themselves, the tea is described as "incredibly fruity," a "hot fruit juice" and "both creamy and refreshing at the same time."

But wait! Before you place an order on your Starbucks app or hop into your car to head to the nearest location, there’s something you need to know: It’s only available in Japan through Valentine’s Day.

Although those of us in the States aren’t able to partake in the pink latte, today, Starbucks did announce its Citrus Defender to help you kick your winter blues.

The stove is the Sully model from Lacanche, a family-run business in France that only makes 50 made-to-order stoves monthly for American customers.

Garten customized the model, which starts at $13,850, to add two burners at $825 a piece. On top of that, the stoves can cost thousands of dollars to ship and take up to four months to build according to Lacanche’s website.

"What was important to her was to have two ovens of the same size that could bake side by side, with one being electric and one being gas," Vice president of Lacanche’s East Coast operations Elisa Waysenson told Time. "She wanted a lot of burners, but also a lot of simplicity."

The next day, Garten took to Instagram again to post her first creation from her new oven, gorgeous pistachio meringues.

Shakira Might Be in a Lot of Legal Trouble

While Shakira's hips don't lie, her tax forms just might. The singer is under investigation by officials in Spain for suspected tax evasion. It's not really the best way to start 2018 if you ask me.

Spanish officials allege that for three years before officially changing her residence to Barcelona, Spain, Shakira was actually living there, but kept her residence listed as the Bahamas to avoid paying Spanish taxes. They're investigating her for potentially owing income taxes to Spain for 2012, 2013 and 2014. Shakira officially changed her residence to Spain in 2015.

Prosecutor José Miguel Company told The Guardian that Spanish tax authorities referred the investigation to his office in December. He estimated that the prosecutor's office will make a decision by mid-June. Anna Forastier, a spokesperson for auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers confirmed that Shakira had hired her company to help with the investigation, but declined to give any other details.

Jesse Williams Is Still Dealing With Custody Drama

It seems like Jesse Williams' custody battle is never going to end. It's been almost a year since the Grey's Anatomy star and his estranged wife, Aryn Drakelee-Williams, announced their separation. Yet the court battle is still dragging on.

More: Jesse Williams & Minka Kelly Are Couple-y as Ever Despite Cheating Rumors

E! News has obtained court documents that show that Drakelee-Williams is claiming Williams "failed to follow the current custody orders" for their two shared children, Maceo Williams and Sadie Williams. She is alleging that Williams "introduced the children to his girlfriend," which is a violation of their current custody agreement, which says "that neither parent will introduce the children to a boyfriend/girlfriend until the relationship has endured at least six months."

Drakelee-Williams claims in her court filing that Williams has allowed the kids to be around his girlfriend since October of last year. She claims Williams has allowed his girlfriend to sleep over while the kids are at his house, and that he's taken them to his girlfriend's house. She also alleges that the kids now call Williams' girlfriend "Mama C," and that in December, Williams took the kids and his girlfriend on a two-night trip together.

More: Those Minka Kelly-Jesse Williams Dating Rumors Get Clarified

There has been a lot of speculation about Williams' love life since he and his wife split up, and he's been repeatedly linked to his co-star, Minka Kelly. However, his girlfriend is not named in any of the court papers.

Drakelee-Williams is also accusing Williams of posting photos and videos of the kids on Instagram, and taking them to work with him, both things that are reportedly prohibited by their current custody agreement. She states in her filing that the children are "having a difficult time with the current schedule."

Williams has not responded to this filing, but just last week, a judge ordered him to pay Drakelee-Williams more than $50,000 per month in spousal support.

More: Jesse Williams & Aryn Drake-Lee Have Reached a Temporary Settlement

We don't know how this will play out, but for the sake of Williams, Drakelee-Williams, and, most importantly, their kids, hopefully the fighting comes to an end soon.
