These Yoga Brands Are Better Than Lululemon — & Cheaper Too

Yes, we've all developed a love affair with Lululemon over the years — but our bank accounts are finally starting to revolt. What are we supposed to do when we can't get enough of Lulu's cute styles and oh-so perfect fit, but just can't bring ourselves to pony up 200 bucks for a pair of leggings anymore?

We find some less expensive alternatives that are just as good, that's what we do. Believe it or not, they're out there.

More: These Couples Yoga Poses for Beginners Help Strengthen Your Relationship

Take it from a yoga instructor: These yoga pants are fun, versatile and totally stand up to the rigor of an active practice. It's time to expand your activewear wardrobe by opening yourself up these other impressive brands.

1. Yoga Democracy

Yoga brands better than Lulu Lemon: Yoga Democracy

If you're looking for the cutest prints ever, Yoga Democracy will totally be your jam. Not only is Yoga Democracy super-cute and affordable — their leggings run about $70 — they're also eco-friendly: 95 percent of what they produce is made from recycled fibers, and their suppliers adhere to high standards of sustainability in water use and greenhouse emissions.

2. KiraGrace

Yoga brands better than Lulu Lemon: Kira Grace

I bless the day I discovered KiraGrace. Their clothing is simple, but beautiful. The fabric they use is thin enough for hot yoga, but also stands up to the pounding it gets from running. The fits are flattering and the tops are supportive. I can't say enough about this brand. The above leggings are $98, which is steep, true. But the quality is high and the price point is similar to Lulu, and what you get feels like a whole lot more. These are outfits you truly want to wear to coffee after yoga is done.

3. Om Shanti

Yoga brands better than Lulu Lemon: OmShanti

Om Shanti is really just for yoga. If you want clothing that will also take you on runs and through a spin class or two, this is probably not the brand. But what they lack in versatility, they make up for in style. These pants have flair for days. My two pairs of these pants get more attention than any other pants I own. They are beautifully cut and their weight, while not versatile, really is perfect for hot yoga — and since I take at least one class daily, that makes them perfect for me. The above pants are $80, but they also have crops that run about $70 and loose-fitting tank tops and other great clothing to help bring out the inner yogini.

4. Onzie

Yoga brands better than Lulu Lemon: Onzie

This company makes absolutely stunning sports bras with fancy backs that would make any one want to try out a backless top. But they also make perfect leggings for hot yoga that manage to be both effortlessly comfortable and highly stylish. I get compliments on my Onzie pants all the time. The skull print in particular has been a big hit.

5. Montiel Activewear

Yoga brands better than Lulu Lemon: Montiel

Simple yoga clothing that feels good on, moves with the body and makes you look hot too? Sign me up! The Montiel pants featured here are incredibly comfortable and also lift and firm the butt in ways I never knew possible. Their comfy tops and sports bras round out the look, and their simple covers are effortless and incredibly stylish. Plus, they are less expensive than Lulu.

6. Liquido

Yoga brands better than Lulu Lemon: Liquido

Liquido leggings feel sturdy, which makes them perfect for both running and yoga. They also have a great length, as in no bagging at the ankles, but they are not crops, either. They have tons of fun patterns and at $84 feel like a little bit of a savings. Liquido also has great tanks, some with writing that will make you feel perfectly yogic, indeed.

These leggings are as versatile and as high-quality as anything Lululemon puts out. If you are looking for an all-around great legging, look no further. Their capris seem pricey at $94, but they really seem like they will last a few years and will carry you through hard cardio, hot yoga and more.

James Franco's Alleged Victims Just Have One Request

As the story of James Franco's past sexual misconduct continues to come to light and subsequently affect his life in various ways, notably with some believing the timing of his recent 2018 Oscars snub could be linked back to his alleged behavior, we now get to hear even more from two of his victims.

More: James Franco Is Reportedly in a Dark Place After Sexual Misconduct Allegations

On Tuesday, two of the first women to come forward with allegations about Franco, Violet Paley and Sarah Tither-Kaplan, gave an interview on Good Morning America where they revisited their allegations in an interview with Amy Robach. Among the many things they made known was what they want Franco to do: apologize.

James Franco Victims GMA

James Franco Victims GMA

Their message to Franco is simple, no bells and whistles, succinct: "Just apologize." It's a simple request from two women who have been victimized by Franco, but it's still something that, to the public's knowledge, the actor has yet to do.

More: James Franco Might Have Been the Most Uncomfortable SAG Awards Attendee

Tither-Kaplan goes on to explain to Robach why Franco's actions cut so deeply and why an apology is likely so necessary at this point. "James abused his power by exploiting the non-celebrity women that he worked with under the guise of giving them opportunities," she stated. Being an actor and a filmmaker and working in the industry has been my dream since I was maybe five or six, and I knew that by coming forward I was risking my career."

It's that kind of risk that is, hopefully to any person reading this, surely worthy of at least person-to-person acknowledgment and a subsequent apology. While Franco has publicly stated that he is sorry and that he doesn't want to prevent the women who allege they've been targeted by him from coming forward, Paley and Tither-Kaplan's request implies that Franco has failed to directly address him.

More: Ashley Judd Praises James Franco's Response to Sexual Misconduct Accusations

But it seems like both Tither-Kaplan and Paley are open to receiving an apology from Franco as well as forgiving him. To them, Franco is still far and away a better man than Harvey Weinstein, to whom they make the comparison. "James is absolutely not a Harvey Weinstein," Tither-Kaplan told Robach at one point. "He is not an unfeeling monster who has no sense of reality. He created exploitative environments for non-celebrity women on his sets. I also think James is a talented and valuable person."

She goes on to explain how she believes this culture where people may be able to take advantage of one another can be dismantled. "It’s a pyramid, and at the top is rape and sexual violence, and at the bottom are the other abuses of power that when they continue to happen over and over build and build and build and create a culture that allows the most heinous examples of sexual violence and misogyny and discrimination to happen. So, if we allow any of them, we allow all of them."

Perhaps there is still a chance after all for Franco to redeem himself and for he, Paley and Tither-Kaplan to serve as examples of people who can restore balance to the system. It sounds like all he has to do is begin with the simple but highly personal act of apologizing.

This jack-of-many-musical-trades has managed to get himself numerous Grammy nominations this year, which is certainly a seal of approval for his talents. But really, how well do you know the singer that has brought us recent hits like "24K Magic" and "That's What I Like"? How many facts do you have stored in your noggin about the singer who is set to perform his latest single, "Finesse," alongside Cardi B during the 2018 Grammys?

Bruno Mars Finesse

Bruno Mars Finesse

Still drawing a blank? Well, worry not because we're here to get you all up-to-date with the Bruno Mars knowledge you need to know about. Keep reading for all the Bruno goodness you desire.

1. He has something in common with Michael Jackson

Mars's latest single "Finesse feat. Cardi B" has made this Mars's third album in a row to have three US Top 10 singles, making him the second artist ever to accomplish such a feat. The first was Michael Jackson.

2. His latest tour is selling like hot cakes

His 24K Magic World Tour has grossed over $200 million dollars so far.

3. He grew up in Hawaii

Image: Giphy

Mars was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father, originally from Brooklyn, New York, is half Puerto Rican and half Ashkenazi Jew, while his mother, who emigrated to Hawaii as a child, was of Filipino descent.

4. His stage name was inspired by a wrestler

Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez. So where did the name Bruno Mars come from? Back in the day, his dad gave him the nickname "Bruno" because Mars was chunky as a baby and reminded him of the hefty wrestler Bruno Sammartino. As for the "Mars" part, the singer told Rap-Up, "The 'Mars' came up just because I felt like I didn’t have no pizzazz, and a lot of girls say I’m out of this world. So I was like, I guess I’m from Mars."

5. Musical talents run in his family

His father is a drummer and his late mother was a hula dancer. In fact, the two met while performing at a show. Apparently, they passed on their abilities to their kids. Mars' sisters have a musical group called The Lylas. Meanwhile, his brother Eric is a drummer in Mars' backup band, The Hooligans.

6. He was a young Elvis impersonator

Bruno Mars

When Mars was a kid, his dad and uncle ran a Hawaiian variety show that sometimes featured the singer as an Elvis impersonator. That's right — he's been performing since age 4.

7. He's a songwriter

Aside from creating his own hits, Mars has also penned many popular tracks for other artists. In fact, before becoming a successful solo artist, he was a known music producer, writing tunes for writing artists like Travie McCoy, Brandy, Sean Kingston, CeeLo Green and Flo Rida.

8. It took him a while to break out

Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Mars signed to Motown Records in 2004 in a deal that "went nowhere," and a conversation with Will.i.am's management also turned out fruitless.

In 2006, he met his future manager at Atlantic Records, Aaron Bay-Schuck. After hearing Mars play a couple of songs on the guitar, Bay-Schuck wanted to sign him immediately. But the label felt that it was too early and that Mars still needed development as an artist, so Mars didn't officially sign to Atlantic Records until three years later. He broke out when he was featured on the B.o.B single "Nothin' on You," which he also wrote.

9. He's run into trouble with the law

In 2010, Mars was arrested in Las Vegas for possession of cocaine. He pleaded guilty to felony drug possession, and in return for his plea, he was told that the charges would be erased from his criminal record as long as he stayed out of trouble for a year, paid a $2,000 fine, did 200 hours of community service and completed a drug counseling course.

10. He's already matched Elvis Presley in a big way

In 2013, Mars scored his fifth No. 1 hit with "When I Was Your Man." The song came just a little over three years after his first chart-topper — meaning that Mars racked his first five Hot 100 No. 1s faster than any male since Elvis Presley.

Mars has won four Grammys: the first in 2011 for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Just the Way You Are," the second in 2014, for Best Pop Vocal Album for Unorthodox Jukebox, and two in 2016 for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, both for "Uptown Funk."

13. He does more than sing

Bruno Mars GIF

Not only is Mars a talented singer, but he plays the drums, keyboard, bass and guitar.

14. He has tattoos

Mars has four tattoos: a gypsy, an anchor and two on his upper arms, which are dedicated to his parents. On his right upper arm is his late mother's name, Bernadette, written in a heart, and on his upper left arm are the word's "Pete's Boy," as a tribute to his father.

Drew & Jonathan Scott Reveal Which HGTV Star They'd Love to Work With

There's a lot of things I want in this life: more money, a comfier mattress, maybe a personal butler that brings me coffee in the mornings. But the one thing I want more than all of those things (and I want those things pretty darn badly) is a seriously epic team-up between some of the best HGTV stars in the game right now. That's not a joke. I really love HGTV and the stars that make that magic happen, so this would honestly be a dream come true for me.

More: Drew Scott & Linda Phan's First Wedding Dance Will Have a DWTS Twist

Which is why I'm more than a bit excited by the idea that Drew and Jonathan Scott have toyed with the idea of teaming up with an HGTV star for a new project as well. While there's no specific project on the table yet, the Scott brothers recently revealed to Us Weekly which HGTV star they'd love to work with.

More: Did Trading Spaces' Paige Davis Really Attack Chip & Joanna Gaines?

"We thought about casting Chip [Gaines] as the brother from another mother," Jonathan told the outlet when asked whether there was room on the Property Brothers team for another TV personality. While it may have been said jokingly, especially because Gaines is going to be a dad for the fifth time later this year, it certainly gets the interest piqued, doesn't it?

Then again, this feels like a "never say never" kind of situation. Even though Gaines will be busy with new dad duties in a few months as well as winding down Fixer Upper, the Scott brothers are going to be pretty busy, too. Drew will be getting married this year, which is certainly time-consuming from start to finish. Oh, and let's not forget all of the regular TV duties he and Jonathan have going right now, from producing to hosting and beyond — it's a lot to pack in.

So let's keep those fingers crossed that when the timing is right, this HGTV pairing comes to fruition because gosh, I want this so badly, you guys.

How to Dress According to Your Skin Tone & Hair Color

We’ll cut to the chase — picking out clothes is tough. From figuring out what’s flattering for your body type to deciding which denim cut works best for your legs, it's basically a part-time job. Even though these clothing guidelines and suggestions can seem overwhelming at first, they’re sure to help ease your shopping and dressing process. Today we’re talking about which colors will work best according to your skin tone and hair color. We’re moving on from old-school color rules like “redheads shouldn’t wear red” or “blondes shouldn’t wear yellow,” because let’s get real, those color combos can be pure gold.

Below, we break down various different skin tones, the most common hair colors associated with those skin tones and which clothing colors will complement them. We also asked Siobhán Quinlan, creative director of New York’s Art + Autonomy salon, for some insider tips.

But before you dive into figuring out the color of this week’s outfit, step one is figuring out your skin undertone.

Finding your skin undertone

An undertone is the complexion of your skin, and most people fall in one of three categories: cool, warm and neutral. Understanding your undertone can help you discover the best shades of color to wear.

  1. Color check: Look for specific colors that stand out in your skin. Warm-toned skin has yellow, peach and gold tints, while cool-toned skin has more pink, red or blue.
  2. Look at your wrist: Look at your veins. If you see blue or purple veins, you’re most likely cool-toned, and if you see green, you’re warm.
  3. Look at your eyes: “Does their eye have golden flecks? They will look better with something warmer. Does their eye have blue or gray flecks? Then I will probably suggest something cooler,” says Quinlan. Generally, cool-toned people have blue, gray or green eyes, and warm toned people have brown, hazel or amber eyes.
  4. Look at your hair: Look at your natural hair — cool tones will have silver or ash undertones and warm tones will have red, orange or yellow undertones.
  5. Celebrity match: Look for a celebrity who has similar skin tone to you and see if you both have cool or warm tones. You can also see how a hair color or a color looks on them and if you like it.

Now, what if you don’t identify any of those consistently or feel in the middle? You’re probably a neutral skin tone, which means you can wear either cool or warm tones — go, you!

Some general color guidelines based on your skin undertone are:

  • Warm undertones look better in gold jewelry, whereas cool undertones look great in silver jewelry.
  • Generally, warmer colors (like red, orange and yellow) look flattering on warmer skin tones and cooler colors (like blue, green and purple) look flattering on cool skin tones.
  • Look for colors with the same undertone — if you’re cool-toned, find a red with a blue-ish/deeper base, and if you’re warm-toned, look for warmer brick reds.

I Like Law & Order: SVU Without Stabler

It’s hard to believe Christopher Meloni left Law & Order: SVU seven seasons ago, taking with him the iconic character of Elliot Stabler. At the time of his departure, I remember being devastated as a fan. How could there be an Olivia Benson with an Elliot Stabler? I vowed then and there that I could never like the show as much as I did when the two were partners.

More: Sam Waterston Is Bringing Jack McCoy to Law & Order: SVU

For a few seasons, that turned out to be true. Perhaps I simply wasn’t into the storylines or the new characters being introduced — or, perhaps more realistically, I simply wasn’t ready to let go of my grudge against the show for getting rid of a character I felt was key to the series.

As time passed, though, Stabler kind of became like an old love. You know the type: when you were with them, you thought they could do no wrong. Even after your breakup, you continued to idolize them, convinced the best thing that ever happened to you had slipped through your fingers. However, you eventually realize that the relationship wasn’t as perfect as your rose-colored glasses had you convinced it was. You eventually realize that you’re better off without them.

Yes, I’m saying exactly what you think I am — Law & Order: SVU is better off without Stabler.

I understand that this might sound like sacrilege to other long-time fans. But the thing is, if we’re really being honest, Stabler wasn’t good for Benson. And vice versa.

Think of how many times their feelings for each other clouded their judgment and nearly got them killed. Also, can we talk about Stabler’s anger issues? It wouldn’t be much of a stretch to call the man a rage-a-holic.

More: Law & Order: SVU Proves Fake News Can Have Very Real Consequences

This doesn’t mean I don’t respect the hell out of Meloni. What he did with the character was downright visionary, and I would 110 percent love to see a cameo from him every once in a while. Still, I kind of dig the chemistry of the current cast even more than I adored Benson and Stabler together at one time.

Part of the reason I don’t miss Stabler these days has a lot to do with one new character in particular: Dominick Carisi Jr., played by Peter Scanavino.

While Carisi has plenty of anger, just as Stabler did, Carisi’s is more righteous and tempered. He’s a good, level-headed cop who always seems to be there for everyone. He came on a little slick at first, but he’s easily become a standout character on the long-running series.

More: All the Times Law & Order: SVU's Benson and Stabler Were the Platonic Best

The fact that he has some pretty stellar chemistry with another new(er) co-star, Kelli Giddish (who plays Amanda Rollins), is a perk. We get the fun back-and-forth “will they or won’t they?” anticipation we used to have with Stabler and Benson, but without quite so much angst — albeit with some drama, because Rollins can be a bit of a hot mess.

Bottom line? I don’t think it’s the worst thing that Meloni hasn’t rejoined the cast of Law & Order: SVU as Stabler. The series has grown up and grown out of that character. Carisi makes up for Stabler’s absence and then some.

Winter Exercise Hacks to Take Your Workout Up a Notch

$

It's winter: Cue the comfy blanket, the oversize pajamas, a toasty cup of hot chocolate and your collection of feel-good, do-nothing movies. Though wintertime definitely equates to far more time cuddled up on the couch or hiding away from the meteorologist's warnings, certified health and wellness coach and personal trainer Jane Diamond reminds SheKnows our health doesn’t hibernate. Even so, this time of year, motivation is often an uphill battle... in the snow.

“During the colder months, we have a tendency to stay indoors, eat more and become less active," Diamond explains. "We have a tendency to gain weight, lose muscle mass and deplete our energy and endurance levels."

This actually creates a setback when the weather changes and we go back to warmer-weather routines but now lack the stamina, endurance and motivation to recreate the same fitness regimens we had just a few months ago, she adds.

More: Hot Baths Might Benefit Your Body Like Exercise Does

If you feel like you have a season pass on the struggle bus when it comes to winter exercise, steal these tips and tricks from fitness professionals.

Exercise to fight depression

In addition to benefiting your outward physique, working up your heart rate also gives you an extra hand in fighting against seasonal depression. As fitness coach and expert Nadia Murdock explains, many people experience more intense symptoms of sadness when the nighttime comes sooner and the days are colder. Let your moods foster your determination to actually make it to the gym or keep the promise you made to your bestie about the Saturday morning spin class you booked together. After all, if you’re feeling less than stellar, staying home and avoiding socializing won’t help your case, but punching a bag will help you blow off steam and feel energized.

Try a new workout

While effective, completing the same-ole, same-ole 30-minute run and 15-minute weight-lifting session at the gym can start to make you yawn just thinking about it. Especially when there are a few inches of snow on the ground and you’ll have to bundle up to just to have to take it all off once you arrive at the gym, you need something exciting to fuel your spirit.

Murdock suggests signing up for a new boutique fitness class you’ve never tried, serving as the spark of curiosity to get you moving — literally. “The excitement of trying something new will help increase motivation. Step out of your comfort zone and look into classes you have been wanting to try or are out of the norm, like indoor water paddling, Buti yoga or a new cardio dance class,” she says.

Turn from participant to teacher

If you’re the type of person who never wants to let down those you care about, making the shift from participant to teacher may help foster a renewed engagement to wellness. As Diamond explains, if you’re already an experienced fitness pro, you can turn your knowledge, dedication and experience toward someone who could use the guidance. “Is there someone you know that would like to take a class or begin running? Become their buddy. Giving back is one of the greatest ways to create joy,” she shares.

Or if your living room allows, consider putting together a 45-minute high-intensity interval training class for your neighbors to join. When you know they’re coming over at 9 a.m. — regardless of snow, sleet, ice or rain — you won’t be tempted to sleep for just another 10 minutes.

Find workout buddies

Depending on what season your friendships are currently cycling through, you might feel like the lone enthusiast who actually wants to work out. Since your lifelong pals are having children, planning weddings or exercising their passport more than their bodies, Murdock suggests finding new like-minded pals who want to commit to a gym routine.

“There are several new sites and apps that offer support when looking for friends of similar interests. These apps are no-strings-attached and strictly platonic,” she shares.

Not sure where to get started? Murdock suggests Hey! Vina for women-only fitness, while ZogSports organizes intramural teams and social events. After all, having support and accountability partners really makes a difference when you’re struggling to maintain your schedule in the frigid temperatures.

No snooze button

It’s not only your mental stamina that inspires you to work up a sweat when you’d rather be stationary, but it’s also how rested you feel when you wake each morning. As Diamond notes, if you’re not reaping the benefits of a thorough night’s slumber, it’s less likely you’ll have enough steam to squeeze in an hour-long sweat sesh.

Not only does it let you wake up ready to tackle your work and that hot yoga class, but it’ll help you manage your eating habits too. “It’s vital to create good sleep habits. When we don't sleep, we are not alert, energized or motivated. We have a tendency to confuse hunger with being tired and overeat,” Diamond adds.

So stay awake and get moving, and spring will be here before you know it.

These Traditional ‘Boy’ Names Are Perfect for... Baby Girls

It might feel like you've read every baby girl name on Earth and still can't find one that feels right for your little gal. Well, have you thought about reading the other half of that baby book? Yep, the one "for boys."

We have some news: Gender-specific names are, well, kind of over. These days, plenty of parents are choosing great names for their kids regardless of which gender that name has been traditionally associated with.

Celebrities are — as usual — leading the baby name trend charge here. Jessica Simpson jumped on the gender-neutral train when she named her daughter Maxwell Drew. She explained that the name is from her husband's middle name (Maxwell) and her mother’s maiden name (Drew).

More: Middle Names for Girls That Are the Perfect Complement to Her First

Other celebrities have recently given kids a traditionally masculine first name paired with a more feminine middle name: Michelle Branch named her daughter Owen Isabelle, and Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis named their daughter Wyatt Isabelle. Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler, on the other hand, used the "boy" name for the middle; their daughter is named Saylor James Cutler. And Soleil Moon Frye went all-out with daughter Jagger Joseph Blue.

Check out more celebrity baby girls who have gender-neutral or traditionally male names:

  • James: Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' daughter
  • Andy Rose: Jack Osbourne's daughter
  • Sawyer: Talk cohost Sara Gilbert's daughter
  • Elliott: George Stephanopoulos' daughter
  • Emerson: Teri Hatcher's daughter
  • Wyatt Lilly: Rachel Uchitel's daughter

  • Dylan: Joe and Heather Nichols' daughter
  • Jude: Alexis Stewart's daughter
  • Billie: Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart's daughter
  • Lou: Heidi Klum's daughter

  • Dylan
  • Jayden
  • Logan
  • Quinn

Does Marijuana Use Impact Your Fertility?

With medical and recreational marijuana being legalized in increasing numbers of states, we're now paying more attention to its possible side effects. New research out of the Boston University School of Public Health has focused on whether using cannabis affects the ability to get pregnant and male fertility. In short, it doesn't.

The study, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, was the first to evaluate the link between the average per-cycle probability of conception and marijuana use. Given that infertility costs the American health care system more than $5 billion each year, the researchers were trying to identify potential factors resulting in infertility — especially those like recreational drug use, which could be modified. Since marijuana is the most widely used recreational drug among people of reproductive age, if a connection between the substance and infertility was discovered, it could constitute a public health problem.

More: Pregnant Women Are Using More Marijuana — Is That a Bad Thing?

"Given the increasing number of states legalizing recreational marijuana across the nation, we thought it was an opportune time to investigate the association between marijuana use and fertility," lead author Lauren Wise, professor of epidemiology, said in a statement.

The study relied on data from the Pregnancy Study Online, which collects pregnancy data from women aged 21 to 45 living in the United States and Canada, most of whom are in stable relationships with a partner and not using birth control or fertility treatments. A total of 1,125 couples (consisting of a male and female partner) enrolled in the study together, allowing researchers to get an inside look into both partners' lifestyles and habits.

More: What You Need to Know About Marijuana & Your Sexual & Reproductive Health

After taking marijuana use and ability to conceive into account, researchers found that using the drug did not impact fertility in either men or women. They did, however, caution against reading too much into these findings, as they didn't control for the amount of marijuana participants used or any long-term effects after chronic use. Given the increasing usage of the drug across different parts of the population, additional research will likely take place to provide firmer answers to those looking to conceive.

What to Eat (and What to Avoid) If You Have Endometriosis

$
0
0

One in 10 women in the United States is affected by endometriosis during her reproductive years, and this chronic disease often goes undiagnosed. Endometriosis is when misplaced tissues grow in areas like the cervix, bladder, ovaries and fallopian tubes. Basically, the tissue that forms the lining of your uterus is found outside the uterus, causing bleeding, inflammation, scarring and pain. While there is no cure, there are ways to treat and manage endometriosis, including watching what you eat. Focus on an anti-inflammatory, hormone-free diet, and check out these foods to consume and avoid.

1. Avoid dairy

Try a low-fat dairy or, if you can, dairy-free diet. Seek out organic dairy products and check labels to avoid foods containing whey, casein, cow’s milk or milk protein — this will reduce the number of added hormones in your food. Dairy containing A1 beta-casein in particular has been shown to cause higher levels of inflammation triggering symptoms of endometriosis than dairy with A2 beta-casein.

2. Avoid gluten

In a study of 207 women, 75 percent reported a statistically significant decrease in the painful symptoms of endometriosis after spending 12 months on a gluten-free diet. Try to focus more on consuming whole grains like steel-cut oats, quinoa and rice (brown, basmati and wild). The B vitamins and added fiber found in whole grains promote a healthy digestive tract and reduce spikes in blood sugar.

3. Avoid sweets

If you have a sweet tooth, this one may be difficult, but sugar is pro-inflammatory (read: bad for endometriosis) and should be limited. Not all hope is lost, though. To satisfy cravings, reach for small servings of dark chocolate, dried fruit, froyo or sorbet.

4. Avoid alcohol

Alcohol is believed to impair ovarian function, aggravate PMS symptoms and negatively affect fertility, according to the SLU School of Medicine. Plus, alcoholic beverages tend to have added sugar, which can prevent other vital nutrients from being absorbed.

5. Limit red meat

Beef, steak, pork and veal should all be limited to one or two servings per week at most. Red meat is shown to not only be pro-inflammatory but also cause hormone imbalances, both bad news for those with endometriosis. When you do indulge, eat grass-fed and organic meats.

6. Eat nuts and seeds

OK, on to the good news! Foods like almonds, walnuts, hemp seeds, chia seeds, natural nut butters and ground flaxseed are all excellent sources of B vitamins and high in omega-3s, which are anti-inflammatory and good for those with endometriosis. Go for one or two servings a day — perfect for that midday snack.

7. Eat fish and seafood

Salmon, herring, sardines, black cod — you name it! Three to five servings of fish a week will have you swimming in omega-3s. Keep an eye out for higher-fat and deep-sea fish because they have even greater levels of omega-3s, which as we’ve come to know are anti-inflammatory.

8. Eat fruits

No surprise here. Fruits are good for those with and without endometriosis, but their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties make them particularly good for those with endometriosis. Seek out fruits with a lower glycemic index, such as blueberries, raspberries, peaches, strawberries, pears, grapefruits, oranges, cherries, apples and pomegranates. Aim for one or two servings a day, and choose organic when you can to avoid pesticide residue, which has been associated with hormone imbalances.

9. Eat vegetables

Again, no surprise that vegetables are important to a healthy, balanced diet. Veggies are also found to be chock-full of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Dark leafy greens, Brussels sprouts, carrots, beets, peas, onions, cauliflower, whatever floats your boat — just be sure to build a colorful, diverse plate of vegetables to get the full range of benefits and wide variety of vitamins A, E and C. Try to get four or five servings per day.

10. Eat cold-pressed vegetable oils

Oils are rich in omega-3s and antioxidants as well as monounsaturated fats, which raise good cholesterol and lower bad cholesterol. Look for expelled cold-pressed oils because they are not chemically treated. Whether you drizzle them over a salad, roast or sauté vegetables in them or use them as the final touch on avocado toast, aim for two to four servings a day.

Lisa Rinna Was Almost Unrecognizable on Watch What Happens Live

Anyone who tuned in to catch Lisa Rinna on Watch What Happens Live on the night of Tuesday, Jan. 23 was in for a little bit of a shock. Rinna, who has been rocking the same signature highlighted bob for years and has continued to rock it while starring in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, suddenly had long, chocolate-brown locks when she sat down with host Andy Cohen. She's always looked the same, so with this new 'do, she was basically unrecognizable.

If you're wondering how Rinna managed to grow her hair past her shoulders pretty much instantly, her stylist, Julius Michael, has the answer: She was wearing extensions during her appearance last night. Michael posted a photo to Instagram crediting Hidden Crown Hair for Rinna's fabulous new look, and Rinna's makeup artist, Priscilla DiStasio posted several shots showing a little bit of the behind-the-scenes work that went into making her look so damn good.

We get super-excited for the Olympics whenever it comes around, and one of the final moments of excitement before the opening ceremony is the reveal of the U.S. Olympic Team's uniforms. But then out of nowhere, two gigantic light-brown fringed suede gloves bedecked in Olympic rings and the American flag come into the picture. Some think they're a nod to the gloves worn by cowboys, while others are pointing out that they seem to be a pretty spot-on rip-off of the buckskin gauntlet gloves worn by certain Native communities in the west.

Who here withdrew their application for The Bachelor when they learned Peter Kraus didn't get the leading-man spot for Season 22 (*author slowly raises hand*)? What if I told you you could connect with Kraus without having to set foot in a mansion or a ball gown? That fantasy is officially a reality, my friends.

More: There's Still Hope Peter Kraus Could Be the Bachelor One Day

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kraus promoted his new social networking app, Hive Social, by inviting users to download it and track him down. Hive Social isn't a dating app, per se, but Kraus made it sound like that wouldn't stop him from pursuing something if he were to meet a special someone on it.

"It's a really nice way to meet people who have a common interest, and make new friends," he said. "Right now, I'm trying to talk to as many fans and people as possible, so if [anyone] really wants to get to know me [...] in a very intimate way, get onto this app where you can actually talk to me face to face."

And even though he's hard at work building the app, Kraus is definitely still keeping an eye out for his shot at love.

"I've started to date, but I'm not dating someone," he explained. "I can't wait to have a family and kids. [It's different now because I have to consider] what I want to do on a date, staying out of the public eye, and just seeing what people are there for, if they're there for me or for a different reason."

The Pope Sent a Message to Donald Trump & Journalists About 'Fake News'

One thing that Donald Trump has hammered on time and time again during his presidency is "fake news." While the president seems to think things like CNN and the New York Times are fake news (they're not. Seriously. Not even close), the Pope is now joining the fight against actual fake news, which spreads dangerously skewed information to promote an agenda, often pro-racism or anti-LGBT.

More: Michelle Obama Shaded President Trump Without Even Saying His Name

On World Communications Day, Pope Francis released a statement condemning fake news, and likening it to the "crafty serpent" in the Bible's Book of Genesis.

"Spreading fake news can serve to advance specific goals, influence political decisions and serve economic interests," the Pope said in his statement, adding that the spread of fake news is enabled by people who read only news sources that confirm their existing biases, rather than seek out diverse and challenging information.

"Disinformation thus thrives on the absence of healthy confrontation with other sources of information that could effectively challenge prejudices and generate constructive dialogue; instead, it risks turning people into unwilling accomplices in spreading biased and baseless ideas," Pope Francis continued.

Unlike the president, Pope Francis also spoke in support of responsible journalism.

"I would like to contribute to our shared commitment to stemming the spread of fake news and to rediscovering the dignity of journalism and the personal responsibility of journalists to communicate the truth," he said. "Praiseworthy efforts are being made to create educational programs aimed at helping people to interpret and assess information provided by the media, and teaching them to take an active part in unmasking falsehoods, rather than unwittingly contributing to the spread of disinformation."

During the 2016 presidential election, Pope Francis was a subject of fake news twice, when separate publications claimed he had endorsed both Trump and Hillary Clinton for the presidency.

Tammy Duckworth Will Be the First U.S. Senator to Give Birth While in Office

This is a big week for politician pregnancy firsts: A few days after we learned that New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will most likely become the second elected world leader in history to have a baby while in office, U.S. senator and certified badass Tammy Duckworth has announced her pregnancy as well.

Duckworth is expected to become the first sitting U.S. senator to give birth while in office. The combat veteran, who gave birth to her first daughter in 2014 while serving in the House of Representatives, revealed that this hasn't been an easy journey. Duckworth shared that she went through multiple rounds of IVF and suffered a miscarriage when she and her husband, Bryan, decided to have a second child.

“Bryan and I are thrilled that our family is getting a little bit bigger, and Abigail is ecstatic to welcome her baby sister home this spring,” Duckworth told Time. She also shared the news on Twitter with an adorable image of four ducks.

A separate statement issued by Duckworth's office emphasized that millions of other working mothers across the country are more deeply impacted by the wage gap than other women simply because they choose to expand their families.

More: This Prime Minister Is Pregnant — & Here's Why It Matters

"Though millions of American women have become mothers while continuing their careers, Senator Duckworth is one of only 10 women since our nation’s founding who have given birth while serving in Congress," the statement read. "Her experiences as a working mother give her an important — and underrepresented — perspective in the halls of Congress, where she has long advocated on behalf of working families."

During her time in Congress, Duckworth has consistently been an advocate for working families, working on initiatives including paid family-leave legislation and head-start programs for children.

This isn't the first time Duckworth has made history. After losing both her legs while serving as a battle captain in the Iraq war, she became the first woman with a disability elected to Congress. Duckworth is also Illinois' first Asian-American woman to serve in Congress.

Beyoncé Reportedly Has ‘Baby Fever’ & Is Ready to Start Having More Kids

It’s been almost a year since Beyoncé broke the internet when she announced she was pregnant with twins on Instagram, but is she already ready to start trying again? According to a source for HollywoodLife, the 33-year-old singer has baby fever and wants to have another kid before she’s 40. But there’s one major thing stopping her: Coachella.

As Beyhive members remember, the “Hold Up” singer dropped out of Coachella 2017, two months before she was set to hit the stage, because she was pregnant with her twins, Rumi and Sir. According to the source, the mom of three doesn’t want to disappoint fans again, which is why she’s holding off on having another kid.

“Beyonce is getting baby fever again, but the Beyhive shouldn’t get excited for any pending announcements because it is extremely important for her to make up the Coachella dates this year that she wasn’t able to do last year,” the source said.

But Coachella isn’t the only thing stopping Bey’s baby-making with her husband, Jay-Z. The singer is reportedly working on a secret album to debut around the time of the music festival. Given that Beyoncé will probably embark on a world tour after her album drops, it’s highly likely a third pregnancy will have to be put on the back burner for even longer.

“She is planning a new secret album to be released right around the time of those shows,” the source said. “Which, of course, would lead into a world tour. So as much as she would love to be pregnant again, she is going to wait, but she is definitely interested in having another little one before she is 40!”

More: Beyoncé’s New Curly, Chin-Length Bob Is Everything

Of course, it’s important to note that these are all rumors, and until Beyoncé confirms her baby-making timeline herself, it’s best to take whatever a “source” says with a grain of salt. That being said, we’re still super-excited to know a fourth Knowles-Carter kid may be on the way — however many years from now that may be. But what we’re really pumped for is imminent Bey music.

These Sex Toys Could Help You Ease Your Way Back Into Sex After Giving Birth

So, you’ve just given birth. Congratulations! You were probably told (depending on how you delivered) you should be cleared for sex in around four to six weeks. While that may work for some people, for others, the thought of any sort of penetration going on down there is highly unpleasant.

But don’t worry — there’s some good news. First of all, there is no hard-and-fast rule to say when you should be having intercourse again. That’s totally up to you and how you’re feeling in your body. We don’t talk a lot about all the changes that happen to your body after giving birth, and your vagina is no exception. Even in the smoothest of all birth experiences, it goes through a lot, so it’s important to listen to your body and get back into sex when and how you feel ready.

Speaking of which, the second piece of good news is that sex is so much more than penis-in-vagina intercourse. There are plenty of other things you can do with your partner (if you so choose), including focusing on clitoral stimulation and not sticking anything in your vagina. While this can be accomplished via fingers and tongues, sex toys could also be a good option for easing your way back into sexual pleasure after having a baby. (And yes, in case you needed a reminder, mothers are still sexual beings.)

More: The Problem With the "Best Sex Position for Female Orgasms" Articles

If you’re new to sex toys or are looking for some non-penetrative options, here are a few recommendations.

Fin

Basically an extension of your own fingers (or your partner’s) that also vibrates, Fin is a good option for those looking to gently focus on the clitoris. The user controls everything from the pressure to the exact spot the product is used to the intensity of vibrations. And according to Alex Fine, the CEO of Dame Products (which makes Fin), it comes with an added bonus: Some users found that it is helpful for relieving clogged nipple ducts when used on the breasts. Fine suggests wearing it while you’re breastfeeding to help alleviate any discomfort.

Squish

It’s all in the name, really: Squish is a, well, squishy egg-shaped vibrator that increases in intensity the more it is squeezed. To do this, the user can squeeze it between their legs (giving them a hands-free experience) or use their hand to guide it and control the vibrations. Lastly, Polly Rodriguez, CEO of Unbound, which makes Squish, tells SheKnows that because the product is waterproof and rechargeable, it makes it especially convenient for new moms.

MoreMasturbation Comes With Some Serious Health Benefits

Oh! Feather Tickler

Yes, the clit is an integral part of sexual pleasure (for people who have one), but let’s not forget about other sensual experiences, like erotic touch. “Foreplay is a great way to excite the body and reawaken sexual urges” says Lovehoney sexpert Coco Cameron. “Use the Oh! Feather Tickler, trailing the fluffy feathers over the skin. This causes the ultra-sensitive nerve endings in the skin to sit up and pay attention, making you tingle and shiver with excitement and reminding your body how good it feels to be touched intimately.”

Wand massagers

If you’ve used a wand massager (like the Hitachi Magic Wand), you probably know those vibrations can be very intense. While you may not be quite ready for direct massager-on-clit or -vulva contact, products like the Desire Luxury Wand or Le Wand can be used in different ways, including as an actual massager for other parts of your body — especially those that are especially sore after the sleepless nights and stress of caring for a new baby.

“Ease yourself into sexual pleasure after giving birth by having your partner give you a full-body massage,” Cameron suggests. “This will awaken erogenous zones all over the body, including places that haven’t received a lot of attention lately.”

Additionally, Alicia Sinclair, CEO of Le Wand, says using the product for clitoral stimulation “brings increased circulation to the vagina, which aids its healing and lubrication.” So, if penetration isn’t in the cards yet, this could be a good alternative.

Elvie Trainer

While this isn’t actually a sex toy, the Elvie Trainer ensures you do your Kegels correctly and acts like a video game. After inserting a small device in your vagina, you can watch your Kegels on your phone in real time and exercise your pelvic floor muscles through different workouts.

According to Fran Maspero, a spokesperson for Elvie, pelvic floor health is especially important during pregnancy because the weight gain shifts your center of gravity, which could lead to physical problems. Kegel exercises following childbirth can help reduce the risk of prolapse, speed up recovery and reduce back pain, she adds.

Annabelle Kathryn of New York recently had a baby and tells SheKnows that she has enjoyed using the Elvie Trainer.

MoreWhy the Pleasure Gap Is a Gender Equality Issue

“For me, post-childbirth, what I loved about it was the few minutes were truly time for me and time to reconnect to my vagina and really get to know it again,” she says. “I feel like I did it for me — not a partner — and felt like it got me back into myself.”

The important part is to make sure you’re comfortable and enjoying yourself with post-childbirth sex — or any sex for that matter. If that means using sex toys to get back into it, then more power to you (pun intended). If not, that’s completely fine too. Either way, we’re here with suggestions if you want to take matters into your own hands.

Whoa, Kim Kardashian West Is Already Thinking About a 4th Kid?!

Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West welcomed their third child less than two weeks ago, but a source tells People Kardashian West is already considering having a fourth child via the same surrogate.

"Even before Chicago was born, Kim was talking about asking the surrogate to carry her next baby,” the source told People. "She’s so happy with the whole process and thrilled with the surrogate." The source added that Kardashian West wants to make her family even bigger, which isn't terribly surprising given her close relationships with her own large brood of siblings.

In a candid blog post last week, Kardashian West opened up about the decision to have her third child via surrogate. After suffering medical complications during her pregnancies with 4-year-old North and 2-year-old Saint, she opted to have a surrogate carry her third child — and she made it clear that it had no impact on the instant connection she felt with Chicago.

"The connection with our baby came instantly and it's as if she was with us the whole time," Kardashian West wrote. "Having a gestational carrier was so special for us and she made our dreams of expanding our family come true. We are so excited to finally welcome home our baby girl."

In an interview with Us Weekly, a source described Kardashian West as a "very hands-on mom" and shared that Chicago is "settling in beautifully" and "sleeping a ton for now." (Every new mom's dream.)

In addition to the excitement of Chicago's birth, there's also the fact that Kardashian West is going to become an aunt again very soon; her sister Khloé Kardashian is expecting and her sister Kylie Jenner is rumored to be pregnant too. And with the Kardashian-Jenner clan rapidly expanding, my next question is: Can we expect a reality show starring the next generation?
