Gayle King Stands With the Women Who Accuse Charlie Rose of Sexual Harassment

If there's anything we've learned in the last few months, it's that there are right and wrong ways to respond when someone is accused of sexual harassment or assault. There's the wrong way, which is to stand up for the person who has been accused, which minimizes and silences the victims while making excuses for predatory behavior. This is best exemplified in the recent letter from the female writers of Saturday Night Live, who voiced their support for former SNL writer-turned-senator Al Franken when he was accused of sexually assaulting a radio anchor.

Then, there's the right way: believing the victims because there is very, very rarely a reason for women to lie about this. They gain nothing telling their stories and to come forward to share their allegations takes a great deal of bravery. Believe. Victims.

Gayle King is a prime example of believing women who allege they've been sexually assaulted. On the show she cohosts, CBS This Morning, where she's worked with Charlie Rose since 2012, she said she's "reeling" from the news that eight women have come forward to accuse Rose of sexual misconduct.

"I got one hour and 42 minutes of sleep last night," King said. "Both my son [William Bumpus Jr.] and my daughter [Kirby Bumpus] called me. Oprah called me and said, ‘Are you OK?’ I am not OK. After reading that article in the Post, it was deeply disturbing, troubling and painful for me to read."

She continued, "I think that we have to make this matter to women — the women that have spoken up, the women who have not spoken up because they are afraid, I’m hoping that now they will take the step to speak up too and that this becomes a moment of truth."

She also addressed her friendship with Rose and how that's not going to affect the way she views the allegations made against him.

"I’ve enjoyed a friendship and a partnership with Charlie for the last five years. I’ve held him in such high regard," she said. "That said, Charlie does not get a pass here. He does not get a pass from anyone in this room. We are all deeply affected. We are all rocked by this."

Soon after King made her comments, it was reported that Rose had been officially fired by CBS. Have Questions About Egg Freezing? You're Not Alone

Egg freezing is becoming an increasingly popular option for women who want to take control of their fertility, providing a possibility for delaying pregnancy. Although the process is becoming more accessible and affordable through clinics specializing exclusively in egg retrieval and freezing, as well as some companies offering it as part of their benefits package, there is still a lack of clear, uniform guidelines about the procedure.

And according to new research, there is one component largely missing from the egg-freezing process: comprehensive counseling. In an article published recently in the Journal of Women's Health, the authors argue that with egg freezing on the rise — especially in elective uses in situations where women are looking to extend their fertility — extensive counseling should be part of the process, regardless of a person's age or reason for freezing. But that doesn't always happen.

More: Meet the Future of Egg Freezing

Specifically, the authors are concerned about scenarios in which young, healthy women who opt to freeze their eggs for later use may not be aware of the potential risks associated with pregnancy in older mothers. As they discuss in the article, when individuals or couple seeking other forms of assisted reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization or artificial insemination, any counseling they receive as part of the process involves the immediate risks and benefits of the procedure, as well as any potential complications. The aim of ARTs is typically to produce a pregnancy as soon as possible, so the counseling they receive is applicable right away.

But in situations in which a woman freezes her eggs, she may not actually use them and become pregnant until years later. At that point, her fertility situation — including the chances of a successful pregnancy, as well as possible maternal and fetal health issues — may have changed from the time she went through egg retrieval and freezing. As a result, the authors of the study recommend more thorough counseling for women at the point when they freeze their eggs.

More: Egg Freezing Is Not the Answer When It Comes to Equality at Work

Also of note, up until 2013, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine considered egg freezing for nonmedical reasons (meaning in situations in which a person's fertility is not compromised because of aggressive cancer treatments, for instance, which may reduce their fertility) an experimental procedure. While that is no longer the case, the ASRM still currently does not recommend elective egg freezing for the sole purpose of working around reproductive aging — which they refer to as "social freezing" — because of a lack of data in the area.

But as the authors mention, despite the lack of official recommendation, because egg freezing has become so mainstream — including with corporations like Apple and Facebook offering it as a medical benefit — it is important to address the elective egg-freezing process and make it as safe as possible, starting with increased counseling for patients.

According to the authors of the study, the rise in social freezing occurred alongside a sevenfold increase in the number of women undergoing egg freezing in the United States between 2009 and 2013. And although egg freezing works best with patients 35 years old or younger, most wait until their mid to late 30s to get the procedure. But just because someone is young doesn't mean they're necessarily in the optimal health condition for egg retrieval, which is also something that should be discussed with doctors.

As a result, the researchers suggest multidisciplinary counseling involving an OB-GYN, reproductive endocrinologist and a mental health professional to provide the woman with the most complete picture possible regarding not only the immediate procedure, but also what a potential pregnancy might look like down the road.

More: How Concerned Should You Be About "Advanced Maternal Age" Really?

"When a woman of any age chooses to undergo egg retrieval and cryopreservation, she should have access to the knowledge and counseling available to be able to make a truly informed decision," Dr. Susan G. Kornstein, editor-in-chief of the Journal of Women's Health, says in a statement. As the authors point out, she adds, the scope of that information should not differ depending on the woman's age at the time of the egg freezing, the reason for the procedure or her plans for future pregnancy.

Ultimately, anyone who decides to use ARTs, including egg freezing, should be fully informed before medical action is taken in order to ensure the best health outcomes for everyone involved.

Emilia Clarke Gets Real About Her Feelings on the Game of Thrones Nudity

Emilia Clarke is no stranger to getting naked on TV. Her role on Game of Thrones has required that since the very first episode when she stripped down prior to her wedding. And fam, she wants y'all to just calm the hell down about it.

"I’m starting to get really annoyed about this stuff now because people say, 'Oh, yeah, all the porn sites went down when Game of Thrones came back on,'" she said in a new interview with Harper's Bazaar.

Clarke continued, saying she doesn't understand why GoT comes under such fire for its nudity when other popular shows bare just as much skin.

"I’m like, 'The Handmaid’s Tale?' I fucking love that show, and I cried when it ended because I couldn’t handle not seeing it. That is all sex and nudity," she said.

More: Emilia Clarke Didn't Think Twice Before Comparing Womanhood to Racism

At the end of the day, she thinks, it just isn't the big deal that people make it out to be. Sex is normal and natural, so depicting it on TV just makes for a more realistic show, right?

"There are so many shows centered around this very true fact that people reproduce," she said. "People fuck for pleasure — it’s part of life."

She's not wrong, you know. And viewers know what they're getting with a show on HBO — it's been a premium cable for ages, which means all the stuff that can't go on regular TV, they can show. Sometimes that includes nudity, but does it really need to be something to get up in arms about? Everyone has a body. Odds are you've seen those parts before they showed up on your TV screen. And if you're really not into it, well, there are plenty of channels besides HBO.

This Pelvic Floor Exercise Doesn’t Actually Stop Bladder Leaks

It turns out there’s not much proof abdominal hypopressive technique works for treating bladder issues.

The technique involves breathing in deeply through the diaphragm, contracting the abdominal muscles after exhaling, and holding your breath before relaxing. AHT is different from Kegels, which are still thought to help.

As for AHT, a study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine finds it may be pointless for urinary incontinence.

“At present, there is no scientific evidence to recommend its use to patients,” Kari Bø of the Norwegian School of Sport Science in Oslo and Saúl Martín-Rodríguez from the College of Physical Education in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, said in a statement.

More: Now you can do Kegel exercises with your smartphone

“To date, AHT lacks scientific evidence to support its benefits,” Bø said. “At this stage, AHT is based on a theory with 20 years of clinical practice.”

The question, then, is what does work to prevent or treat leaky bladder?

Dr., Elizabeth Kavaler, a urologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, who read the study, says Kegels can help.

In an interview, she said AHT may not help to prevent prolapse and incontinence, but Kegels and other pelvic floor muscle exercises can.

Still haven’t mastered the Kegel? Just hold your muscles as if you’re trying to stop peeing and then relax them again.

Kavaler said managing your diet and weight along with exercising and practicing Kegels are the best ways to avoid having surgery for incontinence.

Dr. Carolyn Thompson, a gynecologist from Tennessee, says Kegel exercises and other pelvic floor muscle exercises are meant to treat stress urinary incontinence, which happens when the bladder support system fails. Kegels are also somewhat helpful in urinary urgency with incontinence, which occurs when the bladder contracts when you don’t want it to. She said that loss of large volumes or urine or severe bladder prolapse are less likely to be fully corrected by simply doing Kegels.

That said, she does recommend Kegels for patients with mild incontinence who have minimal pelvic floor defects and for pregnant patients prior to delivering.

Harrison Ford Goes Full Indiana Jones & Helps Someone in a Car Crash

Most actors leave their work at the studio. But Harrison Ford, who plays such heroic characters as Indiana Jones and Han Solo, definitely brings his work home with him. He has a little bit of a reputation for being a total badass and doing heroic things, and he did it again on Sunday.

More: Witness Harrison Ford & Ryan Gosling's Bromance in All Its Adorable Glory

Reports say the actor was driving on California State Road 126 when he saw a car swerve into an embankment. Despite being 75 years old, Ford sprung into action, freeing the woman who was driving the car before paramedics could even arrive on the scene. What a hero.

This is far from the first time Ford has volunteered to be the Good Samaritan during a time of need. In September, right after a pileup occurred in the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, Ford abandoned his car, which was stuck in traffic behind the crash, to help direct other drivers and clear the scene. You know, like you do when you're an A-list actor who's stuck in traffic.

And Ford doesn't even limit himself to acts of heroism on the ground. He's performed several rescues while flying his helicopter because again, that's just apparently what you do when you're an A-lister. In 2001, he was casually flying around Wyoming when he spotted a missing Boy Scout who had been separated from his troop during a storm, and, of course, performed the rescue. A year before that, he rescued two hikers who were lost on Wyoming's Table Mountain. One of them, who was suffering from altitude sickness and dehydration, threw up in Ford's helicopter, but said he was pretty chill about it.

I'm a 'Bad Mom' Every Day

One afternoon in mid-September, my 5-year-old son, who has the most innocent face you ever did see, turned to his father and asked for "some fucking apple juice."

"Excuse me?" his dad responded, struck near-speechless by the tiny potty mouth in front of him.

"Sorry, please can I have some fucking apple juice?"

When my husband relayed this conversation to me, I tried to look appropriately appalled. I tried to explain that since I only speak the language of angels and unicorns, our sweet son could not possibly have learned such atrocious language from me, but since my husband has known me for about 13 years, he wasn't buying my hard sell. Oh, well. At least I tried. On the inside, though, I laughed — because I am definitely a "bad mom."

More: How 5 Moms Went Clubbing — & Survived

Not a bad mom like I neglect my kids. I love my children desperately; I love the smell of their necks and the sound of their wild giggles and their incredibly insightful questions and the way their tiny round tummies fit into my hand. But I'm indeed a "bad mom" in that, sort of like whats-her-face (was it Kristen Bell?) in the Bad Moms movie, I have three kids under age 5 — and there is only so much one woman can take.

If the kids don't like what I made for dinner? That's unfortunate because there is no short-order cook in my house to make mac and cheese at a moment's notice. They get to eat what I cooked or starve (they never choose the starve option). Did the cat scratch them? I'll definitely kiss the boo-boo and give them a Band-Aid, but I'll do it while reminding them it is 100 percent their own fault for harassing the cat for the past half-hour. After bedtime, I eat their Halloween candy — steadily and stealthily.

I mean to go to PTA meetings, I really do, but school started in August, and I just haven't made it to one quite yet. Maybe next month. And it's possible that when my son somehow got himself stuck between my mattress and headboard, I took photos and a video to post on Facebook before I helped him out. (He was fine!)

I do manage to change out of my PJs and into yoga pants for school drop-off, but there's about a 50-50 chance I'll actually get my own teeth brushed by then. "Hair and makeup" is a long-ago dream. My children, however, always show up looking impeccable. Because there's only enough time for them or me, not both. And anyway, this morning when I brushed my hair, it was falling out in giant clumps because of all the stress, so messy bun it is.

The inside of my car looks like hobos live there. This actually comes in handy because our house is on the market, so half our belongings are in storage and the only place I have to hide the few Christmas gifts I've purchased so far is under the crap in the car's cargo area.

More: Please, No Candles: Holiday Gifts Your Kid's Teacher Really Wants

I'll admit I yell at my kids more than I'd like. But I try to make up for it with a million I love yous and I'm proud of yous and hugs and kisses. And I'm trying so, so hard, you guys. I'm trying so hard to raise kids who are secure in how loved they are, who are kind and thoughtful and courteous, who will grow up to want to fly to the four corners of the Earth and make the world a better place and then also come back to me for dinner every Sunday night.

If that makes me a bad mom, so be it. As long as they keep those F-bombs away from their teachers, we'll be in the clear.

Luna Legend is going to be a big sister, and she is ready. Chrissy Teigen announced Tuesday — via an adorable Instagram post — that she and her husband, John Legend, are about to add one more member to their family. Except it wasn't actually Teigen who shared the delightful news; it was Luna.

In the video, Teigen's followers can see her stomach, which is wrapped up in a very cozy-looking blanket, and Luna snuggling nearby. "Luna, what's in here?" Teigen asks as she points at her stomach.

"B-B," Luna replies to a round of laughter in the background. It's everything you could ask for in an announcement: a big sis who can't quite express what's going on since she's merely 17 months old, a very chill mom and plenty of happiness and hygge all around.

And though this is all as cute as can be, the video doesn't give Teigen's followers any hint at when the new arrival is set to, you know, arrive — or any other details. Will Luna have a little brother or sister? Well, we still have to wait for confirmation, but Teigen did reveal early this year that their remaining embryo was male.

Teigen has been open about her difficulties with conceiving. Earlier this year, she announced she and Legend were trying to have another child and would be using the very last frozen embryo they had. She also shared her experiences with postpartum depression after giving birth, telling Glamourthat a combination of medication and therapy helped her through it.

But through it all, Teigen's maintained that approachable supermodel-next-door attitude, reminding everyone she's privileged to have so many resources at her fingertips — and not every mom is as lucky.

"I look around every day and I don’t know how people do it. I’ve never had more respect for mothers, especially mothers with postpartum depression," she said. "I’m speaking up now because I want people to know it can happen to anybody and I don’t want people who have it to feel embarrassed or to feel alone."

Even after her experience with depression, Teigen hasn't been shy about saying she wanted more kids. She told Us Weekly she'd love a big family, a sentiment Legend shares.

"I think it’s beautiful," he said when describing how Teigen's changed since her first pregnancy. "You start to evolve a bit when you know you have a new life that is growing inside you and you’re about to bring into the world." Bring on the evolution, Teigen-Legend clan.

Is Gwyneth Paltrow Secretly Engaged to Her Boyfriend, Brad Falchuk?

$

We remain cautiously optimistic about the following news, but if Gwyneth Paltrow confirms it, then it will prove to be some of the most exciting news about her in 2017.

On Tuesday, Us Weekly reported that Paltrow and her boyfriend, Brad Falchuk, are engaged. The pair has been together for the better part of three years, so it's not entirely surprising. In fact, a source who spoke directly to Us Weekly says, "They both knew it would happen, but it wasn’t a big thing to them because they were both in long marriages before. There wasn’t a rush."

More: Is There Any Bad Blood Between Gwyneth Paltrow & Reese Witherspoon?

Interestingly, though, as exciting as the news of this engagement actually is, there's even more explosive information surrounding Paltrow. Us Weekly claims they have the serious scoop about Paltrow's possible engagement: that she and Falchuk have been secretly engaged for over a year. According to the same source, Paltrow has held back from announcing the news because she "is waiting to announce it on her website.”

Really, Gwyneth? You're going to save news this juicy and this exciting for Goop?

More: Gwyneth Paltrow Might Quit Acting to Expand Goop

It should be noted that we're leaving enough room for speculation here because Paltrow and Falchuk have yet to confirm they are in fact engaged. In all likelihood, they'll be forced to comment on the story one way or another, or perhaps they'll make that website announcement sooner than planned (if that is indeed the case). However, this kind of news is hard not to get all kinds of hyped over, hence the near-universal excitement from other outlets like The Zoe Report and Entertainment Tonight to seemingly confirm the engagement.

Paltrow and Falchuk met in 2014 on the set of Glee, the show Falchuk cocreated with Ryan Murphy, while Paltrow was a guest star. So this would be each of their second marriages.

Did Kris Jenner Confirm Khloé’s & Kylie's Pregnancies on Instagram?

With the Season 10 finale of Keeping Up with the Kardashians rapidly approaching, Kris Jenner is keeping the truth behind the rumored pregnancies of her daughters Khloé Kardashian and Kylie Jenner under serious lock and key. Though with how many secrets the reality TV family holds, a clue was bound to fall through the cracks and into the hands of a conspiracy-loving internet at some point.

Case in point: Last Thursday, the mom of six shared an Instagram of nine sets of holiday pajamas she received from Burt’s Bees Baby. In her caption, Jenner revealed the pajamas were for “every one” of her grandchildren. “Can’t wait to cuddle up with the kids #holidayseason,” she wrote. “thank you for a collection for every one of my grandchildren."

More: Here's Why Kim K. Didn't Invite Her Surrogate to the Baby Shower

Here comes the tricky part. There are nine sets of pajamas in the picture, but Kris only has six grandchildren. Her son, Rob Kardashian, has one child, Dream. Her middle daughter, Kim Kardashian West, has two children, North and Saint. And her eldest daughter, Kourtney Kardashian, has three children, Reign, Penelope and Mason.

This means there are three sets of pajamas left over. And though most of the sets have name tags for each grandkid, there are a few left unnamed, meaning they could be for Jenner’s three (two rumored) unborn grandchildren.

Given that Kardashian West has already confirmed she’s expecting another child via surrogacy, there are two unclaimed pajama sets that could be for Khloé Kardashian's and Kylie Jenner’s little ones to come.

Now, we’re not saying it’s truth, but Kris Jenner did say “every one” of her grandkids would get a pajama set, so unless there are two Kardashian-Jenner grandkids we don’t know about, Khloé and Kylie’s babies seem like plausible possibilities. Still, it doesn’t seem like we’ll know for sure until those babies come out and model those pajamas themselves for all of social media to see.

Nick Carter Is Accused of Sexually Assaulting a Fellow Pop Star

On Tuesday, Nick Carter found himself at the center of allegations of sexual assault and rape made by Melissa Schuman. Millennials may be familiar with Schuman from her involvement in the early '00s girl group, Dream. In an extended blog post, Schuman opened up about allegedly being coerced, sexually assaulted and raped by Carter when she was 18 and he was 22. The two pop stars were working together on the film The Hollow at the time.

It should be noted at the top here that Schuman never directly names Carter in the blog post. However, numerous outlets reporting on this news story seem to have connected the dots between her stating that her abuser was in a massively famous boy band, the fact that she met him while filming a made-for-TV movie (The Hollow appears to be Carter's only made-for-TV movie credit that fits with Schuman's alleged timeline) and the fact that she uses a screenshot of an article making similar allegations against Carter to report that Carter is Schuman's abuser as well.

Schuman says in her post they'd interacted prior to filming that movie. According to her blog post, they were first introduced via phone while she was filming the music video for "This Is Me (Remix)."

"My label informed me that this person’s rep had reached out to them and he shown [sic] romantic interest in me and would like to set up a chat over the phone. My label reps sat in on the call, anticipating a spark between the two of us. I was already dating someone steadily at the time," she writes. "I was transparent with my then boyfriend about the call and assured him I had no interest but needed to at least accept his call out of respect and courtesy to my label. I took the phone call. He was very polite and the conversation was quick."

Schuman then says they didn't interact until a year later on the set of the film. According to her, she and a friend were invited to Carter's apartment during a day off from filming. It was during this time that Carter took Schuman into a bathroom and initiated kissing her. When she asked what he was doing, "[h]e didn’t respond and continued to kiss me. He then pick [sic] me up, put me on the bathroom counter and started to unbutton my pants. I told him I didn’t want to go any further."

Schuman continues to write that Carter allegedly performed oral sex on her without her consent and encouraged her to do the same to him. At one point, Carter allegedly repeatedly begged to have intercourse, but Schuman firmly told him she was saving herself for her husband. This begging and rebuffing went on for several minutes before Carter allegedly began having sex with her. It's Time to Talk About ‘Peehavior’ & Bladder Health

The bladder is one of those body parts you don’t really think about until it’s too late. It’s all fine and dandy until you have to pee — like, now — or something starts to hurt.

And this doesn’t really change with age. In fact, according to a new study called Peehavior, 62 percent of women aged 40 to 65 don’t think about their bladder health at all. But since November is Bladder Health Month, this seemed like the ideal time to change that.

More: I Have a Common Bladder Condition No One Talks About, & It's Taking Over My Life

To start with, a whopping 86 percent of women surveyed said they have peed somewhere other than a bathroom, the most common location being behind bushes (the pee spot of choice for 19 percent of them). Other makeshift toilets include: In the woods (17 percent), the roadside (16 percent), in a parking lot (7 percent), in their pants (7 percent), in the ocean (6 percent) and in the car (5 percent).

We also don’t like to talk about it: 39 percent of the women surveyed reported they do not confide in anyone with regard to frequent visits to the bathroom to pee. But given how much we take our bladders for granted, this is hardly surprising.

“Going to the bathroom is such a natural process that it’s often easy to overlook any signs and signals that your body is giving you,” says Dr. Ekene Enemchukwu, a pelvic medicine specialist and urologic surgeon.

More: Why It's Time for a Women's Bladder Health Revolution

She says it’s especially important to pay close attention to your bladder so you know when things start to feel off. For instance, if you find yourself running to the bathroom urgently and frequently – like, eight or more times a day — this is not normal and could be a symptom of overactive bladder.

The aim of Peehavior is to provide an inside look into women’s bladder health and bathroom usage in order to get a better understanding of the scope of the related medical conditions like overactive bladder. OAB is a chronic condition that affects approximately 46 million adults over 40 years of age in the United States — most of whom are women. Symptoms include the urgent need for frequent urination with the possibility of leakage, Enemchukwu says.

More: No, Anal Sex Is Not the Solution to This Medical Problem

“Many just cope with symptoms or assume they are a normal part of aging, but they should talk to a health care professional about their symptoms,” she adds.

According to Enemchukwu, a few things you can do to help maintain a healthy bladder include:

  • Talking to a doctor about your daily routine to make sure you’re practicing the best habits for your bladder
  • Drinking plenty of water, about eight glasses a day, to make sure you stay hydrated
  • Maintaining a balanced diet that includes fruits and vegetables, but limiting quantities of acidic fruits, such as citrus or pineapple, that may irritate the bladder
  • Doing Kegel exercises to help strengthen muscles that allow for better bladder control
  • Being mindful of stimulants, such as caffeine and tobacco

Reminder: Ross Ruined Every Friends Thanksgiving & Here's How

Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same without the Friends episodes involving the holiday. They're so special that TV marathons have even been dedicated to them.

More: 9 Ways Friends Celebrated the Holidays

As beloved as these episodes remain, there's something we need to talk about: how Ross ruined pretty much every Thanksgiving. Seriously, he was the worst.

As much as I rooted for Ross and Rachel and enjoyed the eldest Geller a lot of the time, sometimes Ross was just plain awful — especially during the holidays. More often than not, he could be selfish, self-absorbed, whiny and paranoid, to name a few of the negative characteristics he usually displayed on Thanksgiving.

Really, if Ross could've actually behaved like a civilized, respectful adult, Friends' Thanksgivings might have been enjoyable. Granted, Chandler, Monica, Rachel, Phoebe and Joey contributed to the holiday's usual disasters, but somehow Ross was the most annoying. He just couldn't leave well enough alone and always ruined Thanksgiving — and here's how.

Season 1: "The One Where Underdog Gets Away"

Ross, Thanksgiving #1

Ross, Thanksgiving #1

In Season 1, Monica decides to host Thanksgiving, since her parents are going on a trip. Rather than saying, "Thank you, Monica, you are the best sister ever," all Ross does is whine because he just has to have lumpy mashed potatoes, in addition to the two other kinds Monica has to make as well.

Then, when Monica tries her hardest to give him what he wants, he only complains. While she's busy in the kitchen making dinner for everyone else, Ross says, "It's just not the same without Mom in the kitchen." To make matters worse, after they get locked out of the apartment (while they're on the roof looking at the Underdog balloon, of course) and the food burns, Ross has the nerve to say, "This doesn't smell like Mom's."

That's not the only part of the episode where Ross is super irritating. After learning that Susan has been reading to his and Carol's unborn child, Ross can't let her steal the show, so he makes poor Carol sit for hours while he tells his life story to their son. Seriously, Ross? You don't think Carol has better things to do — on Thanksgiving?

Season 2: "The One with the List"

Ross, Thanksgiving #2

Ross, Thanksgiving #2

Even though Thanksgiving wasn't technically celebrated in this episode, it's still considered the Thanksgiving episode of Season 2 — and yes, Ross is 100 times worse in it compared to Season 1.

After he and Rachel kiss for the first time, he has to decide if he wants to pursue a relationship with Rachel or keep dating Julie. Well, Joey and Chandler suggest he make a pro/con list for "what's wrong" with each woman and then he can go from there. Idiots.

So, what does he have to say about Rachel? Not only does he call her "spoiled," "kind of ditzy" and "too into her looks," but he says she is "just a waitress." Ross, why are you the way that you are?

Season 3: "The One with the Football"

Ross ruined every Friends Thanksgiving
Image: Giphy

It's not Thanksgiving without football, which is what leads to the gang playing the sport in order to win the infamous Geller Cup. Ross and Monica have always been competitive, but Ross makes it all so much worse.

First of all, he doesn't even pick Rachel, his girlfriend, for his team. Of course, he doesn't have to pick her just because she's his girlfriend — but come on, the game doesn't even mean anything! He also ends up with Rachel on his team by default, because she is last to be chosen. Rachel could've easily complained about having to play football, but she actually wants to participate and do something Ross likes to do. The least he could do is have fun with her, rather than being so serious.

Oh, and Ross also ends up trading Rachel for Joey, because he's always been boyfriend of the year, right?

Season 4: "The One with Chandler in a Box"

Ross, Thanksgiving #3

Ross, Thanksgiving #3

In this episode, they choose Secret Santas and Ross wants to trade Monica for Rachel, but he soon learns that the year before, when they were dating, Rachel exchanged the necklace he got her for something different. What did she get in return? "Credit."

Ross is furious, of course, and won't let it go. He's so mad he has the nerve to say to Rachel, "I'm not completely devoid of sentiment. I have feelings." Whoa, Ross, calm down. Yes, maybe Rachel is too picky when it comes to gifts and shouldn't return them, but that's crossing the line.

Like the badass she is, Rachel throws Ross' comments back in his face by showing him all of the little things she saved from when they dated that meant something to her.

Season 5: "The One with All the Thanksgivings"

Ross, Thanksgiving #4

Ross, Thanksgiving #4

At the beginning of the episode, Ross basically declares that he's having the worst Thanksgiving ever by saying he's not sure if he should be more thankful for his second divorce or his eviction. *rolls eyes*

This pushes everyone to start discussing their worst Thanksgivings. In one flashback, Ross brings Chandler home, and Chandler is beyond rude to Monica. He even calls her fat. But Ross barely defends his sister, making him the worst brother ever.

Then, in a second flashback, Monica tries to show off her weight loss, which she is super proud of, but rather than focusing on that, her mom just has to make Ross the center of attention. He starts bragging about his new girlfriend, Carol, and can't help but rub it in Monica's face. Well, we all know how that turns out.

Season 6: "The One Where Ross Got High"

Ross, Thanksgiving #5

Ross, Thanksgiving #5

In what is probably the best Thanksgiving Friends episode, Ross is, once again, the most terrible human being ever. Monica and Chandler haven't told Jack and Judy Geller that they're living together, because, well, they don't seem to like Chandler very much. They soon learn it's all Ross' fault because he told his parents that Chandler smoked pot in college, when in fact it was really Ross.

All Monica and Chandler want Ross to do is tell the truth, but when does he ever do that? He avoids it like the plague and ends up acting like a complete pain in the ass. He won't even step up and defend his best friend, Chandler, who is trying really hard to get Jack and Judy to like him. Then, Ross is the one who ends up spilling the beans to his parents about Monica and Chandler's living arrangements. Ross, you are the worst friend ever.

Moving on. Ross also has zero consideration for Monica's Thanksgiving because all he wants to do is leave so he and Joey can hang out with Joey's roommate, Janine, and all of her "hot dancer friends." Oh, and how about Ross not telling Rachel she made a mistake with the trifle? The only reason he doesn't tell her (and gets everyone else to lie too) isn't to spare her feelings — it's so she won't start over. If she starts from scratch, then Ross would have to stay even longer and would never get to see Janine and her "hot dancer friends."

Season 7: "The One Where Chandler Doesn't Like Dogs"

Ross, Thanksgiving #6

Ross, Thanksgiving #6

It's pretty bad that Chandler doesn't like dogs, but it's more painful to watch Ross whine about Chandler's United States game. Throughout the entire episode, Ross isn't allowed to eat Thanksgiving dinner until he can name all 50 states. Well, he can't, which makes him whine even more.

But before he realizes he can't name every state, he acts like he knows it all. He also makes a grand speech in front of his friends and declares, "You know, I hate to lecture you guys, but it's kind of disgraceful that a group of well-educated adults — and Joey — can't name all the states. Have you ever seen a map or one of those round colorful things called a globe?" Ross, have you?

Season 8: "The One with the Rumor"

Ross ruined every Friends Thanksgiving
Image: Giphy

This is when Rachel learns that Will (played by Brad Pitt) and Ross had an I Hate Rachel Green club in high school. They even started the horrible rumor that she was a hermaphrodite. Wow, Ross, that's something you should be really proud to share with your son and daughter. He apologizes for it and tries to make Rachel's Thanksgiving less awful than it already is, but it doesn't make the situation any better.

Season 9: "The One with Rachel's Other Sister"

Ross ruined every Friends Thanksgiving
Image: Tumblr

Believe it or not, but Ross actually isn't that bad in this episode — and he has Rachel's sister, Amy, to thank.

Season 10: "The One with the Late Thanksgiving"

Ross, Thanksgiving #7

Ross, Thanksgiving #7

This is the Thanksgiving Monica didn't want to host in the first place, but everybody else talks her into it. Minus Chandler, they all show up late. Ross and Joey go to the New York Rangers game knowing very well they'll be late. They even try to concoct a story, like being mugged, so Monica doesn't get mad. Really, Ross? He always knew how to support his sister the right way.

As for why Rachel and Phoebe arrive late, they're busy at the pageant they entered Emma in, which angers Ross. He can't believe they would treat Emma like some kind of "show dog." Oh, but as soon as he learns she got first and won $1,000, he's totally on board. He can't even stick to his principles and ends up only caring about the money in the end.

That's Ross at Thanksgiving in a nutshell. If you need something to be thankful for this year, be thankful that Ross isn't at your Thanksgiving.

How to Start Family Holiday Traditions of Your Own

$

Holiday traditions are a lovely way to create lasting family memories. But do you have to bake cookies with your kids every year just because that's what you did with your own mom? Or maybe you grew up without much holiday fuss and feel like you missed out; how do you go about implementing more festive fun for your own family? Are traditions still traditions when they're invented from scratch?

“Holiday traditions, and tradition and rituals in general, help families create shared meaning," family therapist Megan Costello tells us. She brought up another way of looking at traditions: “In building a family life, parents are creating a whole new culture that has never existed before.” That's right, parents: great power, great responsibility.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to create brand-new holiday traditions for your own kids, regardless of what kind of holidays (or lack thereof) you grew up with. Just try to look beyond Elf on the Shelf (but no judgments — we definitely have one of those) to create unique opportunities to share this special time of year.

Below are tips on how to start new holiday traditions tailor-made for your own family — inspired by real parents who did just that.

More: The Best Holiday Books to Read With Kids

Blend beliefs

Many modern parents are inspired to create new traditions out of their respective beliefs, religions or varying degrees of observance. Brooklyn mom Laura explains that her daughter "has only been around for two Hanukkahs so far, but we made sure to light candles before bedtime and sing a song from my husband's more secular tradition and a prayer from my slightly more observant one. We bought our daughter a kids book about celebrating Hanukkah and read it to her occasionally ahead of the holiday (or randomly throughout the year), so she knows what it's all about. And we're sure to enjoy at least one feast full of latkes, which may be her favorite part (can't blame her)."

Los Angeles mom Robynn Markus has a unique activity planned for her two preschoolers: “Since my husband is Jewish and I was raised with an exorbitant amount of Christmas tradition, I started making a ‘House of Hanukkah’ with my kids,” says Markus. “We buy a huge box (big enough for them to fit inside) and make Hanukkah decorations and cover it with lights inside and out, and every night of Hanukkah a gift ‘magically’ appears inside! I think they enjoy it more than Christmas now.”

Hone in on ideas that appeal to you

You’re not likely to stick with a tradition that you’re not interested in yourself. I love decorating (and eating) cookies, so holiday baking was a natural choice for my family. I let my kids help with the mixing and have them cut out some of their own cookies with cutters, and they get to decorate a few. Even though it can be stressful to bake with preschoolers, I grin and bear it because they love to “help.” Plus, they love to be involved in making gifts, and we love to give out edible treats. And I know that when they're older, they (hopefully) won’t spill flour all over the kitchen, but we'll still have our annual baking tradition.

Consider giving back

It’s always a good idea to instill the holiday spirit of giving; bringing children on community-service excursions is a great idea. “I made an advent calendar with little boxes glued to a board,” says mom of two Jenny McCormick. “A third of the boxes have candy or little toys, a third have pieces of paper with family activities written on them and a third have charitable or donation-based activities listed. The kids might find ‘Bake cookies for firefighters’ or ‘Donate a bag of toys.’ It inspires us to give back.”

Use your environment

Is there something special about the area you live in that you can incorporate into a holiday event? “Since we live in Southern California, we go to the beach on Christmas Day,” says mom Sarah Grubb, who started a unique tradition with her 21-month-old son. “We get a shell each time and put it in a jar.” A Christmas shell jar? Adorable. Mom of two Katie Szurpicki is originally from Nebraska, but she also takes advantage of her current Los Angeles locale. “Now that we are in California, we hike on holidays,” she says of her new family tradition. Soak up that sun when you can!

Another nature-filled holiday tradition is that of Holly Ramey, a Nashville mom and healer who celebrates Solstice. "The winter solstice is the rebirth of the sun — when the days begin to lengthen, a solar new year," Ramey explains. "I love to celebrate with my daughter by building a ceremonial altar with flowers, candles and crystals with the colors yellow and orange to represent the sun. Sometimes I add pictures or quotes — whatever feels relevant to the theme of rebirth and renewal. To include my daughter Ruby in this ritual, we'll light candles, sing a song (I like "This Little Light of Mine") and say a prayer of gratitude to welcome the light into our lives."

And speaking of nature, mom of one Megan Persson, who lives in Sweden, plants her Christmas trees after the holiday is over. “Each year, we buy a living Christmas tree, which we plant on our land once the ground thaws, and we've named the ‘Christmas forest’ after our daughter,” says Persson. “We will take a picture each year with her next to her Christmas forest and let her witness herself grow in relation to the trees.” Is that a magical idea or what? “We want to teach her the importance of being a good steward of nature,” explains Persson.

Highlight values

Aka the “reason for the season,” whatever that means to you. Incorporating “gratitude jars” at Thanksgiving is a fun way to recognize what we have to be thankful for. “Thanksgiving to me is a truly beautiful occasion that captures the spirit of being grateful,” says Claire Summers. “These special moments are to be celebrated and remembered for years to come, which is why I started our own tradition by creating the Thanksgiving Glass Jar.” Each day through the month of November, Summers and her family and friends write down things they are thankful for on notecards and put the cards in their jar. On Thanksgiving Day, they all read the cards aloud. “We do this before we sit down to eat; it not only gets us talking and sharing, but acts to open up our hearts and fill them with love and laughter throughout the day.”

Keep it simple

Get the family involved in no-stress activities like singing carols, decorating or even just wearing matching pajamas. Anything that fosters bonding is a great idea. “We’ve tried other traditions, but this one has stuck," Sarah Robinson says of her family's matching holiday pajamas. "My oldest, who is now 5, looks forward to it and knows it’s ‘our thing.’” I too got my family matching Hanna Andersson pajamas for Christmas. And yes, I bought them in October — that's how excited I am.

More: Green Gifts for Your Flower Child

Whatever new tradition you decide to start with your family, getting kids on board is key; don't drag them into something they're not psyched about. “The hallmark of a successful tradition is to create one that your loved ones look forward to and that can be shared for years to come," Summers advises. The best way to do that? Take into account your kids' input and interests, because these traditions will likely make up a big part of their childhood memories. Remember what we said about great responsibility?

How This Is Us' Justin Hartley Is Celebrating the Holidays With His New Wife

There’s no denying that Justin Hartley has a lot to be thankful for this year. In addition to starring in the massively popular NBC series This Is Us, the actor recently wed actor Chrishell Stause in a romantic Malibu ceremony.

But, let’s be level: It’s been an emotionally draining second season so far for Hartley’s This Is Us character, Kevin, and one can only imagine Hartley is looking forward to the levity of kicking back for some good ol’-fashioned holiday merriment.

Before the eating, drinking and being merry commence, though, Hartley is hard at work on a job of a different kind — helping to keep furry family members like his and Stause’s dogs, Memphis and Gracie, safe from holiday perils. To this end, he has partnered with Royal Canin, a global leader in pet nutrition, to raise awareness about risks and to encourage a diet that supports digestive health.

We caught up with Hartley somewhere between those two seminal roles to discuss any festive forthcoming plans. And while for viewers, this will undoubtedly entail watching This Is Us' last few episodes of the year and sobbing into our eggnog, we’re happy to report that Hartley’s holiday plans sound far happier than the current state of his TV alter ego.

SheKnows: First of all, congrats on your recent nuptials! These are your first holidays as husband and wife — any special plans?

Justin Hartley: Thank you very much; I appreciate it. So, we’re in New York right now. We’re sort of making it our tradition — this is the second year we’ve done it in a row — where we’re kind of coming to New York for Thanksgiving. It’s a wonderful time to be in New York. It’s very festive, and the holidays are a good time to visit if you’re going to visit during the cold months. But we’re doing that, and then we’ll do a family Christmas with my daughter [Isabella, 13 years old ] and probably open up a bunch of expensive gifts. You know, as kids get older, their gifts get more and more expensive. It’s unbelievable.

SK: I believe you. I have a 6-year-old and a 5-year-old, and I'm already afraid.

JH: Oh, it’s insane — you go into debt. But you know what? They’re worth it. She’s a good kid, so whatever. She gets what she wants [laughs].

SK: Your wife, Chrishell, is a Southern girl, and we Southerners take the holidays up a few hundred notches. Has she introduced you to any dishes or traditions?

JH: You know what? I think I brought a few traditions into it. We do this thing where we decorate the Christmas tree together. I’ve always done that with my family, and so we sort of brought Chrishell into the fold. It sounds really goofy, but it’s actually really cool. We get, like, your favorite beverage of choice, and we blast the Christmas music. My buddy Steve got me this really cool turntable this year, so I’ve been getting a lot of Christmas music on vinyl. And we’re going to blast the vinyl Christmas music — some Bing Crosby — and we’re just going to decorate the tree. It takes a few hours, so it’s fun. You talk and remember things that happened during the holidays and sort of decorate the tree, and you end up with your Christmas tree looking nice. It’s good.

SK: I understand you’re a fellow Friends fanatic...

JH: Listen, here’s the thing about that show. It’s funny the first time you watch it. It’s funny the 10th time you watch it. It holds up. You can put it down for a year and pick it back up, and it’s still funny. I’ve recently gotten my daughter into it, so now I’ve got her quoting the show. I’m like, ‘Wait, that sounds familiar; what’s that from?’ And she’ll tell me, ‘Oh, Ross said that to Rachel.’ So it’s great. Friends is our favorite.

SK: Friends always had amazing Thanksgiving episodes. Who are you most like around the holidays: Monica, Rachel, Chandler, Joey, Phoebe or Ross?

JH: Oh, man! They all have their own little thing. I’m not like Monica really in that — she’s hilarious, but — she would always get so neurotic during holidays and everything would have to be perfect. I’m kind of the opposite of that. But I’m not the opposite to the point where I just don’t care about it. I really do care about it; I just don’t sweat the big things or the details. I don’t really worry about too much except for, like, if my friends have drinks and they’re fed. That’s pretty much all that matters. So maybe a little bit of each? I definitely like to host the party during the holidays, but like I said, I don’t stress out over it... I think I’m pretty loose when it comes to the holidays. I just try to enjoy the moment — enjoy the time off of work and the moments where everybody gets to laugh and have fun and not really care about much.

SK: Sounds like you might be a Joey/Phoebe hybrid.

JH: I think maybe you’re right! Maybe a Joey-Phoebe hybrid. That would be a good one. That’s probably the best combination.

More: Young & the Restless Finally Makes a Decision on Adam Newman

SK: All right, we’re going to wrap this up with a little rapid-fire Q&A, holiday style. Here we go. Pumpkin pie or pecan pie?

JH: Pumpkin.

SK: Bing Crosby or Frank Sinatra?

JH: Hmm, I just bought both on vinyl actually. Those are the first two ones I bought. Oh man, do I have to pick one, really? I’ll go Bing Crosby.

SK: Friendsgiving or ugly sweater party?

JH: I’m not into an ugly sweater party. I don’t really like that. It sounds like punishment — it sounds like you’re trying to torture people and make them look bad. I’m not a big fan of that.

SK: Cranberry sauce or gravy?

So, if we’re going canned, I’m going to go cranberry sauce over canned gravy. If we’re going fresh, I’m gonna go gravy over cranberry.

SK: Best gift you’ve ever gotten?

JH: My wife and I got this turntable from our friend Steve… he knew that I would love it, but he wasn’t sure if Chrishell would love it. So he accompanied the turntable and the speakers and the big, huge receiver with a yellow Beyoncé album. Kinda to make her a little happy about it, and I think it worked. We blasted Beyoncé.

OK, we're going to need Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to just go ahead and announce their engagement already. Everyone knows it's coming. Heck, we've confidently suspected it for, like, a year. Now that Markle has finished filming her last ever episodes of Suits, this is obviously what's next, so why hasn't he proposed yet?

More: A Definitive Timeline of Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s Relationship in 2017

According to insiders, Harry already has proposed. It's just that he and his betrothed aren't telling anyone yet. In the latest issue of Us Weekly, an insider reveals that even though they haven't made their official engagement announcement, Harry and Markle have already set a date for their wedding.

"It will definitely be a summer wedding," the insider said, adding that Harry designed a ring for Markle using diamonds from a broach that belonged to his mother, Princess Diana. And apparently, even though they're not formally engaged as far as the public is concerned, Markle is moving into Harry's place at Kensington Palace pretty much now.

"There are no plans for them to live separately," one of Markle's friends told Us Weekly. "Meghan will move right in."

So when are they actually going to go public with all this? It's not like they'll be able to hide the fact that she has moved in. According to yet another insider, the palace is already coordinating the official engagement announcement (and the photo shoot and syndicated TV interview that will go with it), and we can expect that the official word "will likely be some time in January," this friend says. "It gives Meghan some time to get settled and will be a great start to 2018."

Updated Nov. 22, 2017, 8:45 a.m. PT: The View's Meghan McCain just said I do!

McCain and conservative pundit Ben Domenech reportedly tied the knot Tuesday at the McCain family ranch in Sedona, Arizona. Entertainment Tonight reports that McCain's father, Senator John McCain, gave her away at the wedding amid his battle with an aggressive kind of brain cancer.

Ahead of the ceremony, McCain shared a sneak peek with her Instagram followers: her adorable bridal slippers.

McCain has talked before about wanting a secret wedding, and it looks like she pulled it off. Congrats to the couple!

Updated Nov. 2, 2017, 10:45 a.m. PT: The identity of Meghan McCain's fiancé has been revealed! After lots of us were left wondering who the lucky guy was, it was actually Page Six that broke the news McCain is engaged to Ben Domenech, a conservative journalist for The Federalist. Domenech seemingly confirmed this when he tweeted Page Six's story and captioned it, "Love you bae, @meghanmccain."

According to Page Six, Domenech "is a former speechwriter who also co-founded the RedState conservative blog and regularly appears on Fox News and CNN." While we don't know for how long the pair have been dating, it's presumed they met while McCain was working at Fox News.

McCain also opened up about the engagement on The View on Thursday morning, giving the full rundown about precisely how long she's been engaged and how it came about. "We have been together for years, and we have been engaged for a while, and it was a secret," she said. "I was hoping to get married and people wouldn't find out, but people talk sometimes. And I love him very much, and I'm very happy and, you know, we have been together, and everyone keeps asking me, like, 'How did you get engaged? How did you get engaged?' I'm like, well, we were at the Mayo Clinic and my father had his scan and we got engaged because we decided to sort of celebrate life and celebrate being alive and all these things."

Original story:

It's an exciting time to be Meghan McCain, that's for certain. She's recently joined up with The View, moving from the more intense work she did as a pundit on Fox News into something with a bit more fun and ease. Of course, she's been making quite the splash in her new gig (and that's a good thing!), and it's only natural that this stroke of good fortune would carry over into her personal life. And earlier this week, it was announced that McCain is engaged. Exciting!

More: Who's Taking Over for Jedediah Bila on The View?

This is certainly super-exciting news, but honestly, we have some major questions. Primarily: Who is she actually engaged to? McCain keeps it pretty darn private on her social media, and the only time we really get any insight into her personal life is when it involves her immediate family, especially her father, Senator John McCain.

According to a source who spoke to Us Weekly, "Meghan and her fiancée are well into wedding planning." But that tells us diddly-squat about who the lucky fella is — and we want some answers! McCain has referenced him very slyly on social media, with perhaps her most blatant post showcasing just how well her significant other can make brunch. Hey, if we can't see who he is, then at least we can take comfort in the knowledge he makes a mean brunch, right?

For years now, it's seemed as if McCain had put all of her focus and energy into her career, which is totally fair. She's been on the steady climb upward and deserves all the success that's come her way. That said, an engagement is also a sincerely happy occurrence, and we can't help but wish her anything but the best as she preps for her big day.

Have you ever opted for one adult beverage over another because of how you think it'll make you feel? Maybe red wine makes you sleepy, so you avoid it during dinner before a night out. Or perhaps whiskey makes you melancholic, so you pick beer instead. According to new research, there may be some scientific basis to this.

A study just published in the British Journal of Medicine found that drinking different types of alcohol results in varied emotional reactions.

More than half of survey participants associating drinking hard liquors like gin, vodka and whiskey with feeling energetic and confident, while 42 percent reported they made them feel sexy.

Red wine and beer make people feel most relaxed, the study found. On the other hand, drinking hard liquors are more likely to make you feel aggressive and restless or make you cry.

Also of note: Women more frequently reported feeling all emotions except feelings of aggression when drinking alcohol.

The authors suggest that we may choose to consume different types of alcohol because we subconsciously want to feel specific emotions we associate with that beverage.

“These findings suggest that individuals inadvertently select drinks which are known to elicit negative emotions because they crave the positive emotions that go with them and link with existing evidence that those dependent on alcohol drink alcohol as a coping mechanism rather than drinking for pleasure,” the authors write in the paper.

But aside from arming you with some fun facts to share at your next family holiday meal, what's the point of looking at this relationship? According to the authors, understanding emotions associated with alcohol consumption is an important part of addressing alcohol misuse, providing insight into what emotions influence drink choice between different groups in the population.
