A new era of Dance Moms is here, and it's going to be just as intense as ever.

More: It's Official: Abby Lee Miller's Finally Had Enough With Dance Moms' BS

With Abby Lee Miller in prison for bankruptcy fraud, the dancers needed a new boss, and they found it in Laurieann Gibson, a superstar choreographer who is there to make stars, fam. And she will not let you forget it.

More: Dance Moms' Abby Lee Miller Is Actually Cracking Jokes About Her Fraud Charges

In a preview for the reign of Gibson, we get some sneak peeks at her screaming at the girls (because that's basically a huge trope of this show), as well as a lot of her talking about how great she is. But she's earned that right because she's choreographed for Beyoncé. Also Michael Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga; you can't even be mad that she knows how great she is.

"I'm here to deliver No. 1 A-list superstars," Gibson says in the preview as the camera cuts to one of the moms looking honestly shook and saying, "Laurieann Gibson is a little intense."

She is definitely intense. But she's intense in a way that makes for some hilarious reality TV, so bring it on.

"I am here to break this system and make this my studio," Gibson brags in the video. "Abby Lee makes robots. I make stars."

10 Things to Know About Donald Trump's Daughter Tiffany Trump

$

OK, I think we can agree on one thing: Donald Trump is kind of a b-hole, to put it lightly, and most of his kids that are helping him "run" our country aren't that far behind. But as much as we can't stand for most of the ideologies that the Trump family is perpetuating, it's also become pretty clear that it can't be easy to be Trump's daughter Tiffany right now.

While we can understand why people might be weary of letting a Trump into their hearts, we also think it's totally unfair that Tiffany's being judged for the sins of her father. Tiffany actually seems like she's kind of cool — and she's definitely not all up in the family business. Plus, who can hate her after she visibly dodged The Donald's kiss on camera at a political debate?

Get to know a little more about her, and let us know if you think she's being treated too harshly, too.

1. She's headed to the White House

Tiff Trump insta

OK, maybe not the White House technically, but it was just announced that Tiffany will attend Georgetown University's law school, which is located in Washington. Can't help but wonder if Tiffany got a little familial pressure to enroll.

2. Her boyfriend is a Democrat

Donald is a Republican president, but Tiffany's BF, Ross Mechanic, is — gasp — a registered Democrat, according to the International Business Times. That hasn't stopped Mechanic from showing up to political events like the Republican National Convention with Tiffany.

3. Marla Maples is her mother

tiffany trump insta 4

tiffany trump insta 4

Remember the scandal Marla Maples caused in the '90s when she had a long-running affair with the then-married Trump? Everyone saw Maples as the home wrecker who torpedoed Trump's 12-year marriage to wife Ivana Trump. Once the divorce dust settled, Maples and Trump married two months after Tiffany Trump was born. Fast forward 20 years, and baby Tiffany is all grown up. Say what you will about Maples — she's still beautiful at 50, and she somehow raised a Trump heir in near anonymity.

4. Tiffany and her mom are very close

Once the Maples/Trump empire collapsed, mother and daughter moved to California and forged a strong bond. Maples told Oprah Winfrey on Where Are They Now? that Donald Trump supported his daughter financially but that she considered herself a single parent when it came to the actual parenting. When Tiffany was a teen, she and her mother cooked, played tennis together and formed a close relationship. Tiffany told the Daily Mail, "We've always been very close since she did raise me as a single mom."

5. She's an Ivy Leaguer

tiffany trump insta 3

Tiffany attended her father's alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated in 2016 with a double major in sociology and urban studies. Even with the divorce between them, both of her parents bit the bullet and showed up to give their support, along with siblings Ivanka and Barron.

6. Her net worth is under $1 million

While half a mill sounds like big bucks to most of us, you can already guess that this is small potatoes in the Trump family. Since Tiffany just graduated college and will soon begin building her career, it makes sense that her current net worth is estimated at $600,000. Compare this to her dad's net worth at $4.1 billion, and we can see where she's heading.

7. She's an aspiring pop star

tiffany trump insta 1

In her teenage years, Tiffany surfaced on the scene with hopes of becoming a pop star.

She told the Daily Mail, "I love music, it's always been very dear to me. It's more of a hobby right now, but we'll see in a couple of years if I actually want to take it to the next level as a professional level. Right now the focus is on school."

She has released "Like a Bird," which is a little Paris Hilton-ish (what is it with wealthy heirs and Auto-Tune?), but it's a place to start.

8. She's not as tall as her big sis

tiffany trump insta 2

tiffany trump insta 2

Both Ivanka and Tiffany have modeled, but Ivanka, from Trump's first marriage to ex-wife Ivana, is the taller of the two. Ivanka takes after her father at an estimated 5 feet, 11 inches, while Tiffany is a few inches shy of "supermodel stature" at 5-foot-8.

9. She's got a big Instagram following

Are we even surprised? With famous friends like Kyra Kennedy and EJ Johnson, daughter of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Magic Johnson respectively, Tiff has officially been dubbed a "Rich Kid of Instagram." Her over 200,000 followers may have something to do with the addicting pics she posts of skiing, fancy clothes and vacations in Palm Beach.

10. She is not the red-headed stepchild

tiffany trump insta 5

tiffany trump insta 5

Don't be confused. Just because this Trump heir grew up on the West Coast and her famous siblings grew up in New York, Tiffany has the lifestyle you'd expect of a Trump. Her high school education cost over $31,000 a year, she travels to exotic destinations on Daddy's private jet and her famous sister, Ivanka, got her an exclusive internship at Vogue in the U.S.

Still, her famous father is proud of her because she not only does well in school, but she's a good person.

"She really is a terrific student, but more importantly, whenever we get the report card, the teachers write that she is the nicest person. Every one of them say, 'Tiffany's marks are an A, but more importantly, she's one of the nicest students we've ever had,'" Donald said.

9 Things Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik Have In Common

$

In the wild world of Hollywoodland, celebs get together and break-up almost as often as they change their underwear — so when a young couple actually sticks it out for more than a couple years, we take notice. Such is the case of Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik, who have been a thing since 2015. At this point, these two are obviously more than just a fling, and we are so here for it.

They're gorgeous, in their 20s, talented and filthy rich, all of which is a recipe for a short, intense affair that ends in a nasty (and very public) breakup, but Hadid and Malik seem to be in it for the long haul. But why? It could be the fact that they are completely compatible and have a lot in common.

More: 16 Times Zayn Malik May Have Mentioned One Direction & Gigi Hadid on His Album

Here's why we're pretty much convinced Hadid and Malik were made for each other.

1. They're both loyal

Zayn Malik insta 1

Zayn Malik insta 1

Even after Hadid got raked over the coals for a totally distasteful post on Snapchat, Malik was there to back her up — causing him to get backlash for it himself.

And when Malik had to cancel money-making appearances and performances due to crushing anxiety? Hadid was there for him too.

"Z — I've seen the battle you go through and the way you fight to get to a place that allows you to get up there for your fans," Hadid wrote on Twitter. "Your bravery in those times makes me proud, but your honesty last night proved what you're all about, being real. Human recognizes human... Your talent and good heart will never lead you wrong. Love you and so proud of you always."

2. Those aren't their real names

It's not as though this is exactly a surprise. Many celebrities go by stage names — Demi Moore (Demetria Guynes), Ben Kingsley (Krishna Pandit Bhanji), Portia de Rossi (Amanda Lee Rogers), Michael Caine (Maurice Micklewhite), Whoopi Goldberg (Caryn Johnson), etc. Hadid and Malik join this ever-growing group of Hollywood name-changers, born Jelena Noura Hadid and Zain Javadd Malik, respectively.

3. They seriously get into the Halloween spirit

For Halloween in 2015, Hadid slayed as the bad-girl version of Sandy from Grease.

The year before, Malik and his then-fiancée Perrie Edwards went all out as Edward Scissorhands and Cleopatra.

4. They are both earth signs

Zayn Malik insta 2

Zayn Malik insta 2

There are three earth signs in the zodiac: Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo. Malik, who was born on Jan. 12, is a Capricorn. Hadid, who was born on April 23, is a Taurus. According to Astrology.com, earth signs are "earthy," sensual and often laid-back. They can also be stubborn. The fact that they are both earth signs could bode well for these two, given that they are considered a power duo.

5. They have blended heritage

Born to Mohamed Hadid and Yolanda Foster (née Van den Herik), Hadid is of Palestinian and Dutch ancestry. Malik's father, Yaser Malik, is British-Pakistani and his mother, Tricia (née Brannan) Malik, is English. Malik has said he had trouble fitting in at his first two schools due to his mixed heritage.

6. They're close to their big families

Hadid and Malik both have large families. Hadid has two younger siblings: sister Bella and brother Anwar. She also has two older half-sisters, Marielle and Alana, on her father's side and five stepsisters from her stepfather. Her social media pics often include her family, like this pic of her dad.

Malik has three siblings: one older sister, Doniya, and two younger sisters, Waliyha and Safaa. And Malik's childhood photo and new album cover is too adorable for words.

7. They have "a type"

Hadid clearly harbors a fondness for hot up-and-coming musicians. Her first serious public relationship was with Australian singer/songwriter/entertainer Cody Simpson, which ended in May 2015. She then began dating Joe Jonas, who she broke up with in November.

Before Hadid, Malik also fancied musicians. He dated fellow X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson for several months, after which he began dating Perrie Edwards of Little Mix in early 2012. In that respect, Malik is kind of breaking with his usual type with Hadid (but not really if you read No. 9 below).

8. They have both been the subject of controversy

As crazy as it seems, Hadid has sparked criticism for being too large for the runway. Yes, you read that right. It's ridiculous, we know. This reached fever pitch following Milan Fashion Week when Hadid walked in the Versace SS16 show, and critics claimed that — at size 4 and "curvy" — she isn't fit enough to strut in a high-fashion show. These detractors claim she should stick to Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret shows. To her credit, Hadid responded with total class in an open letter on IG.

Malik is no stranger to criticism, either. He was dubbed the bad boy of One Direction before he left (which was a controversy in and of itself) and on more than one occasion was caught with, erm, recreational substances. He is also a Muslim who is routinely derided by conservative Muslims who feel there are contradictions between the doctrine and his lifestyle.

9. Oh yeah, and they can both sing

This is the real ace up the sleeve when it comes to being a celebrity power couple — Hadid and Malik share many talents, one of which might be singing. Hadid reportedly tried to make it in music before heading to the runway (singing backup for Josh Groban almost 10 years ago), and well, we already know that Malik's musical talents are kind of a big deal. If the beautiful couple ever decides to release a duet, you heard it here first.

Beauty Products Marketed to Women of Color Contain More Toxic Chemicals

First we learned that beauty products marketed to women of color contain harmful ingredients. Now, new research in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology has confirmed this, noting that women of color are disproportionately exposed to toxic chemicals in beauty products compared with white women.

And not only that, but black, Asian-American and Latina women spend more on beauty products than white women because of societal pressure to conform with white Western beauty standards, Dr. Ami Zota, an assistant professor of environmental and occupational health at Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University and one of the authors of the study, said in a statement.

More: Makeup Tutorials for Women of All Shades

For example, women of color purchase products like skin-lightening face cream, which often contain topical steroids or the toxic metal mercury, and hair straighteners or relaxers are likely to contain estrogen, which can trigger premature reproductive development in young girls and possibly uterine tumors, Zota noted in the statement. The authors also warn that repeated exposure to chemicals in beauty products and in the environment can accumulate and interfere with healthy reproduction and development.

Apparently, 1 in 12 beauty and personal care products marketed to black women in the U.S. contains highly hazardous ingredients according to research released in December by the Environmental Working Group.

More than 1,100 products marketed to those who identify as black women in the U.S., including the Caribbean and other areas, were analyzed, revealing that less than 25 percent of the items scored "low" on the hazard scale. For some comparison, 40 percent of products that are marketed to the general public are classified as low-risk.

"If a black woman is choosing products marketed to their demographic, they have fewer healthier options," Nneka Leiba, deputy director of research at the Environmental Working Group noted.

More: Makeup Giant Accused of "Neglecting" Black British Customers

The worst offenders were hair colors, bleaching products and hair relaxers, which a study conducted at Boston University has linked to an increase in health risks. Luckily, the Environmental Working Group has a searchable database that provides information on the safety or lack thereof of more than 64,000 cosmetic products. The group hopes the report will encourage black women to push the companies they buy from into putting more thought into the ingredients that go into their products.

The authors of the recent study issued a call to health care providers to make their patients aware of the hidden dangers in some of their most commonly used beauty products and talk to them about possible resulting health risks. This can't keep happening.

Mom Charms Internet With Maternity Photo Shoot in Target

Yeah, sure — glowy, airbrushed maternity photo shoots that feature perfectly coiffed pregnant women swathed in gauzy maxi dresses cradling their huge bellies in radiant, doe-eyed awe are all well and good.

But we'd probably rather hang out with the Missouri mom who decided the perfect maternity photo shoot setting for her was neither a meadow full of wildflowers nor a cliff above a crashing sea. Instead, the very pregnant Page Miller opted for (drumroll) the one and only Target. Yes. That Target. The store marked with the scarlet bull's-eye — the store in which many of us spend several hours and several hundred bucks each month.

Photo shoot relatability rating: 10.

Miller (a photographer herself) tapped her fellow photog friend Heather Pippin of Inspired by a True Story Photography. Miller also had her toddler, Avery, along for the shopping cart ride. And the result was pure everyday magic.

And what did their local Target think of the pair, plus kiddo, traipsing all over the store, snapping their way down each aisle?

"Surprisingly nobody thought we were too weird — except Brad, Page's husband, who would not be seen with us on this day!" Pippin said. (Brad, you totally missed out.)

The bittersweet backstory of this photo shoot is that Miller is expecting a "rainbow baby" — the common moniker for a child who arrives after the loss of another. The Millers' son Clarke tragically died from SIDS.

Katie Holmes Will Give Up Hollywood if It Means Raising Suri Right

It's kind of hard to believe that Suri Cruise is almost a teenager.

More: Are These Hollywood Couples Going to Get Engaged Soon?

Now almost 12 years old, Suri is the reason we don't see as much of her mom, Katie Holmes, in movies as we used to. And it would seem that Holmes is totally OK with that.

"This business is so unstable, and you never really know where you’re going to be," Holmes admitted during an interview with Town & Country, where she explained her decision to transition away from acting and into more behind-the-scenes roles in Hollywood, like producing and directing. "The thing about directing is I can say I have this window and that’s when we’re getting it done. My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now. It’s very important that I’m present and she has a stable, innocent childhood."

Holmes also acknowledges the privilege she has in being able to step away from her career for the sake of raising her child. "I feel so blessed to do what I do, but there’s nothing in the world better than watching your child succeed," she said.

More: Katie Holmes Celebrates 5 Years of Divorce From Tom Cruise With Jamie Foxx

Holmes has had full custody of Suri since her split from Tom Cruise in 2011. She's stayed relatively quiet about the dynamics of raising Suri after the divorce — including how involved Cruise is (or isn't) — but rumors have been swirling for the better part of a decade saying Cruise is estranged from Holmes and his daughter because of his high standing in the Church of Scientology. Regardless of this, what's clear now is that Holmes is prioritizing her daughter's well-being, as she has always done, and that's what matters most.

How Dangerous Are the UV Lamps in Nail Salons, Really?

$

We all want and appreciate nice hands since they are out in the open all day long. A big part of that is having our nails polished. And getting a manicure with friends is an honored tradition many of us enjoy with the women in our life, especially before a big event like a wedding or birthday celebration. Some of us even bring our young daughters along to show them what a little bit of pampering can do for the soul. In fact, I am planning to celebrate my birthday tomorrow at our local nail salon with my 12-year-old daughter.

More: Your Skin Shouldn't Be the Only Skin You're Checking for Cancer

Sure we can do our nails at home, but it's not the same as getting out of the house and being treated like a queen, even if it only lasts a half-hour or so.

The trimming of the cuticles and hand massaging feels healthy and satisfying, but what about after your polish is on and your nail technician leads you over to the UV lamps? Most salons these days have you sitting under these lights when you are done. They help speed the drying process for regular manicures and are necessary for gel manicures to set.

More: Pregnant Women Have a Higher Risk of Skin Cancer

But the questions many women are asking as they look at their beautiful manicured fingers and nails are: How safe is this? Is it worth the risk? What can I do to make one of my favorite treats safer for me if I am not willing to give it up?

Some upscale salons do offer gloves for protection, but obviously your fingertips are still bare and are absorbing the proclaimed damaging light. Some salons have started to replace their UV lamps with LED lights, but they still emit UV rays.

SheKnows spoke with a few women who get manicures regularly to see what their experience was like sitting under the lights waiting for their nails to dry. And many were nervous about the dangerous side effects such as wrinkling and sunspots and the obvious danger of getting skin cancer.

Bethany C. said she gets manicures and puts her hands under the UV lights regularly. "Regardless of precautions, I always feel my fair-skinned hands roasting when I get gel manicures, and I've actually seen freckles crop up in one session. I need to stop!"

Alice L. has the same concerns. "I do use them, but before I go, I put sunscreen on my hands. I know some of it is washed off, but at least there is some. They should be providing protection of some sort," she says.

Jill C. has had no problem with manicures and says, "I have used them many times and it's never bothered me. They're used for such a short time and I only get my nails done every couple months, so it's really not something that I worry about."

More: My "Minor" Skin Cancer Scare Was Anything But Insignificant

Joanna R. has been getting regular manicures for over 20 years and says, "Am I thrilled about it? No. But I'm more concerned with sun exposure on the boat or at the beach. And I [put] 30 SPF on my hands."

Is it possible that perhaps only those who have fair skin or get manicures on the regular should worry and take extra precautions?

We asked Dr. Robin Evans, a board-certified dermatologist in private practice in Stamford, Connecticut and a clinical instructor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine her thoughts on UVA exposure at nail salons, and she told us these lamps emit ultraviolet A radiation, which is linked to skin cancer. So the areas of your body that are exposed over and over are at a greater risk.

She recommends asking to have your toenails and fingernails dried with cool air blowing only and also notes that gel wraps can damage nails anyway and should be avoided.

"The best polishes to use are formaldehyde- and toluene-free — thus avoiding chemicals linked to carcinogenicity," she says. "My recommendation is to avoid these lamps."

But we all know not everyone is going to take this advice, as getting gel wraps has been known to last longer than just regular polish.

Dr. John Diaz, a plastic surgeon, offers another point of view.

"The reality is that most people are not spending hours in the nail salon on a daily basis, so the likelihood of UV exposure from nail salon lamps leading to skin cancer is low," he explains. Diaz says there are a few things you can do to limit damaging sun exposure at the nail salon, including: applying SPF 30-plus to hands, fingers, nails and forearms or limiting your gel nail treatments and choosing a regular manicure with nontoxic polish.

Only you can decide if you are comfortable with getting under the UV lights, but it is nice to know there are alternatives. And if the side effects make you nervous, you don't have to give up having pretty nails all together — there's always the air dryer.

The joy is so apparent on their faces, and it's clear they still feel it even almost a decade later.

"Portia understands me completely," she said. "In our vows, she recited a quote, ‘It is good to be loved. It is profound to be understood’ -- and to me, that’s everything. What ‘I love you’ really means is ‘I understand you,’ and she loves me for everything that I am. She supports me and makes me happy."

We kind of have to agree that they're perfect together, plus, seeing how cute and in love they are kind of makes us melt so we really, really hope they keep that up.

3 Things I Planned for My Birth That Definitely Did Not Go as Planned

$
0
0

Like most moms-to-be, when I was pregnant — especially as I got closer to my little one joining the world — I thought a lot about how I wanted the labor, birth and subsequent hours to go.

More: 5 Things No One Tells You About Having a Baby

I decided that while I loved the idea of a home birth or birthing center, I would opt for a hospital birth. Sure, it sounded great that a water birth could mean my baby would presumably glide carefree into a tub of warm water while surrounded by calming music and fragrances without all the wires and the unflattering florescent lights of a hospital room. But I couldn’t help but worry about not being close to emergency care should something go wrong.

For as much as I knew I couldn’t control how it all panned out, I knew I had certain basic preferences for how I wanted it all to go and I made plans accordingly.

And then of course, nothing went according to plan.

Plan 1: Labor at home with a doula

I took steps to plan for as natural a birth as possible. I hired a doula, a wonderful woman who would bring a taste of the birthing center. She would come over and help me labor at home for as long as possible. We would bounce on an exercise ball and take hot showers and sing to the baby in ready position to come out, and she’d rub me down with essential oils while playing ambient sounds on her apps. Then, when I was more than 5 centimeters dilated, we would go to the hospital. I would be comfortable in my home environment and labor better as a result.

In reality, my water broke two-and-half weeks early. When the water breaks before contractions start, you really don’t have the luxury of laboring at home. The rate of infection increases after the four-hour mark. Plus, after only three hours at home, I didn’t feel the baby kicking and called my doctor. She was concerned and told me to come to the hospital right away. So much for laboring at home! Essential oils were nowhere in sight, let alone music or bouncy balls or showers or anything homeopathic and calm.

More: I Have to Adopt My Biological Child Just Because I'm a Same-Sex Parent

Plan 2: Vaginal birth with no epidural

I planned to give birth vaginally to avoid what I deemed unnecessary medication, including an epidural or any pain medication. I had done my Kegel exercises and practiced my breathing and braced myself mentally to deal with the most painful experience of my life. I was ready to take it like a champ.

Unfortunately, because my water broke before contractions started and because I went into labor early, all my plans went out the window. I wasn’t contracting on my own, so I ended up with an IV line of Pitocin, a drug used to induce contractions. After 18 hours of labor with medically induced contractions less than two minutes apart, I was still only 1 centimeter dilated. I was not ready to give birth and wouldn’t be before the safe window closed after the water breaking, according to my doctor. I was told I needed a C-section. And of course, I needed an epidural for the C-section. As brave as I was prepared to be, I wasn’t prepared to have my lower half sliced open and organs tossed about without some serious drugs.

Plan 3: Breastfeed from the start

I planned to breastfeed my baby from the time he was born. There was no other option in my mind after reading up on how "breast is best." The hospital encouraged breastfeeding too and placed my newborn on my chest just moments after entering the recovery room so he could latch and start to get the first substance that comes out, the colostrum. Unfortunately, Baby couldn’t seem to figure out how to latch, and even with hand expression, I wasn’t able to produce enough colostrum to satisfy him. I had to turn to formula on his second night on this Earth when his hunger cries were louder than my expectations to do things according to plan.

More: When Breast Is Not Best

It’s easy to lie in bed and feel your pregnant belly and dream up a rosy picture of how you want things to go with your birth, but when it comes time, you’ll have little control over how your little one decides to enter the world. At the end of it all, all that matters is that Mom and Baby are healthy. In hindsight, even though there were no scented oils or Enya music or the joy of getting to push out my baby and see him being born, I now have a perfect baby and a body that’s nearly healed, and I wouldn’t change a thing about how it all came to be.

Mix up your pound cake batter according to the directions on the box. Pour the batter over your pumpkin bread cutouts in the pan, making sure to cover the tops of the pumpkins. You may have more pound cake batter than you need. Try to not overfill the pan. Bake according to the directions on the box. Let cool when done.

4. Prepare the icing

Meanwhile, prepare the brown butter pecan icing.

Pour the powdered sugar into a mixing bowl. In a saucepan, melt the butter, and boil, stirring until it starts to brown and form dark flecks on the sides and bottom.

Remove from the heat. Pour the melted brown butter and flecks over the powdered sugar. Add the evaporated milk and vanilla. Stir until combined and creamy. Add more powdered sugar if it appears too runny, or more evaporated milk if it seems too stiff.

It's no secret that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are one of the sweetest couples in Hollywood — on the planet, for that matter.

More: Ellen DeGeneres Gently Roasted One Audience Member

So on their anniversary, we almost expect them to blow our minds with cuteness from the sweet messages they write to each other to commemorate the day. This year did not disappoint.

They've been married nine years as of Wednesday, and DeGeneres marked the happy occasion with a snap from their wedding day — de Rossi in a stunning wedding dress and DeGeneres in a smart white suit — holding hands and laughing. The joy is so apparent on their faces, and it's clear they still feel it even almost a decade later.

"@PortiadeRossi and I got married 9 years ago today," DeGeneres wrote. "Being her wife is the greatest thing I am."

If that isn't the sweetest thing you've read today... I'm not crying, you're crying.

Earlier this month, DeGeneres told Good Housekeeping about how she and de Rossi are the perfect pair.

"Portia understands me completely," she said. "In our vows, she recited a quote, ‘It is good to be loved. It is profound to be understood’ — and to me, that’s everything. What ‘I love you’ really means is ‘I understand you,’ and she loves me for everything that I am. She supports me and makes me happy."

We kind of have to agree that they're perfect together. Plus, seeing how cute and in love they are kind of makes us melt, so we really, really hope they keep that up.

11 Actresses Who Do Their Own Stunts

Just because the characters are fictional, that doesn't mean Hollywood's leading action star ladies aren't actually kicking some major ass in their films.

Whether it's months of training for a specific scene or years of training that led to the ultimate role, action actresses in Hollywood are putting in the work to make their films come alive on screen.

More: Charlize Theron Didn't Fake Her Atomic Blonde Fight Scenes

Trust me, you can't possibly watch these ladies pulling out their moves and not feel inspired. Sign me up for the closest Krav Maga class, because stunt work is the new sexy in Hollywood. And as someone who's actually taken a Krav Maga class before, let me tell you, it is absolutely not as easy as they make it look.

1. Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde

Atomic Blonde stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave told The Hollywood Reporter, "Charlize did 98 percent of her own action, including fighting, running and those kinds of things. When it comes where she has to fall down stairs or swing from a height — that she can't do insurance-wise." But the rest was all Theron.

2. Angelina Jolie in Salt

Jolie opted out of having a stunt double for her 2010 film Salt and did all the action scenes on her own.

3. Cameron Diaz in Knight and Day

Tom Cruise notoriously does his own stunts in his films, and when Diaz starred alongside him in Knight and Day, she followed suit. She even did some stunt driving for the film. In an interview with The Mirror, Diaz reportedly said she was covered with bruises while filming.

Carano wasn't originally an actress, but she was picked for her role in 2012's Haywire specifically because of her MMA fighter training.

5. Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games

Jennifer Lawrence didn't just learn to use a bow and arrow for The Hunger Games franchise. She also jumped from trees and ran around fires. Though she did have a stunt double for those moments that were too extreme, Lawrence was right there in the heart of the action, too.

6. Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman

Stewart did her own stunts during the battle scenes in Snow White and the Huntsman. She explained in an interview with Hollywood Life, "[Director] Rupert [Sanders] beat me up. He definitely threw me off cliffs and made me trudge through frigid, icy waters. It looks so cool, though. I can actually see the pain and discomfort on my face. It’s awesome."

Hargitay does her own stunts for Law & Order: SVU and even suffered a partially collapsed lung in 2009 from a stunt fall gone wrong. Luckily, she recovered fully and reported back to set just a few weeks later.

8. Naomie Harris in Skyfall

Harris had three months of extensive training in shooting, combat fighting and stunt driving to prepare for her role as a Bond Girl, according to Shape. Stunt coordinator Gary Powell also told the outlet that the craziest stunt Harris had to perform was the driving. "She has to drive alongside the camera, keeping her mark and moving very fast."

9. Scarlett Johansson in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Johansson made it clear in an interview with The Daily Mail that she did most of her own stunts for the Marvel film. "Please don’t think I’m stupid, though. I know my limitations. When Natasha, my character, has to bound 20 feet in the air and do four cartwheels, it’s my stunt double Heidi Moneymaker who’s doing that. But that woman hanging 60 feet in the air, taking punches and throwing punches? Well, that’s me."

Well, Raven Symoné is here to tell you! She’s been pretty busy since high school, and since That’s So Raven!, so we asked the star 21 questions about every possible detail of that time, all the way from her Disney Channel classic, to her favorite karaoke song. Take a look!

21 Questions with Raven-Symoné

21 Questions with Raven-Symoné

In the series spinoff, Raven’s Home stars Raven, of course, and her best friend Chelsea, played by the one and only Anneliese van der Pol. The two live under one roof in Chicago as divorced single moms just trying to raise their children. Raven has twins, a boy and a girl named Booker and Nia, played by Issac Ryan Brown and Navia Robinson, and Chelsea has a son named Levi, played by Jason Maybaum. They’re definitely not in high school anymore.

More: How Raven Symoné's Changed Since That's So Raven! Ended in 2007

The one constant is Raven’s abilities to see into the future, and the twist is that her son can also see into the future. But Raven has no idea that Booker has the ability just like her. While Raven’s visions usually involve her kids, Booker’s are mostly about Nia and Levi. Booker’s first vision actually happens in the pilot, so we get to see him find out he has the abilities too, something That’s So Raven! never did.

When asked the difference between the two shows, Raven said, “About 15 years and two children.” And that’s all the information I need to be hooked on Raven’s Home. That, and confirmation that she says “Oh, snap!” or “Yep, that’s me!” at least once an episode for the full nostalgic effect.

Thor: Ragnarok Is Here & It's Not Chris Hemsworth We're Staring At, It's Benedict Cumberbatch

The great thing about superhero franchises is that they usually make our wildest-dream fan fictions come true. So if you’ve written one about Thor and Stephen Strange meeting and hanging out (and maybe making out?), then you’re (mostly) in luck. The official trailer for Thor: Ragnarok was just released, and there’s some serious interaction between the two. So if I'm excited about these two on screen together, does that mean that Benedict Cumberbatch is... Hot?

More: 38 Marvel Easter Eggs You Definitely Don't Want to Miss Out On

Thor: Ragnarok Trailer

Thor: Ragnarok Trailer

They’re first meeting, of course, comes from 2016’s Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, that English actor who’s confusingly hot. The mid-credits scene after the movie shows Strange and Thor having a serious chat. Strange says, “So, I keep a watch list of individuals and beings from other realms that may be a threat to this world. Your adopted brother is one of those beings.” He is, of course, referring to Loki, played by the more obviously hot English actor Tom Hiddleston. “Why bring him back to New York?”

More: Benedict Cumberbatch's New Role is Literally a Dream Come True

Thor, played by super hot Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, responds, “A bit of a long story, but we’re looking for my father.”

“If you found [him], you’d all return to Asgard promptly?” asks Strange.

“Oh, yes.” Thor takes a big gulp of his beer. “Promptly.”

“Great. Allow me to help you.” And so the story continues with a common bond between Thor and Strange.

More: 11 Actresses Who Do Their Own Stunts

The trailer definitely continues this conversation, which is cool and all, but let’s be real for a second. When did my eyes start to drift from Chris Hemsworth, a hunk of a human being and a fictional God, to Benedict Cumberbatch, a surprisingly handsome guy with a goatee and a cape? I mean, he was hot as Sherlock Holmes in BBC's Sherlock, with the long peacoat and curly head of hair. But as Stephen Strange? I would have never guessed!

A theory could definitely involve Cumberbatch’s voice. Though I prefer his origin accent, he’s really good at an American one. Maybe it makes me feel like he comes from home? And maybe I’m questioning this too much and should just enjoy whichever way my eyes start drifting, especially if it’s for good ol' Benny Batch.

How to View the Solar Eclipse Without Doing Permanent Damage to Your Eyes

$

In a world full of fancy devices capable of everything from monitoring every step you take to when you’re going to get your next period, it takes a lot to impress us. One quick Google search and we can look at images or videos of pretty much anything we can think of — for better or worse. But even with all these technological advancements, it’s hard not to get excited about Monday’s solar eclipse.

It’s the first time that the contiguous United States has seen a total solar eclipse since 1979, and even if you don’t live in the ominously named Path of Totality — the parts of the country where the total eclipse will be visible — you should be able to see at least part of it.

More: The 2017 Eclipse: Everything You Need to Know

A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, blocking all or part of the sun. The whole event on Monday will be about three hours — beginning to end — but the longest period the eclipse will be visible at any one given point will be around two minutes and 40 seconds.

So if the sun is going to be blocked, it should be OK to look at it, right? No — actually, it’s not, and looking directly at the solar eclipse without proper eyewear can really hurt your eyes. To make sure we’re prepared for Monday’s big event, we spoke with some leading eye health experts who told us about eclipse eye safety and how to view the celestial event without hurting your eyes.

Why shouldn’t you look directly at a solar eclipse?

In short, because even though part of the sun may be blocked, when viewed directly, it can cause permanent damage to the central retina, Dr. Charles Eifrig, an ophthalmologist at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills, California, explains. What’s even scarier is that it only takes a few seconds staring at the sun to cause permanent damage, he adds.

Dr. James Vann, an optometrist and Transitions Pro Forum member recommends that you do not look at the eclipse directly at all, at any point.

More: Why Wearing Cheap Sunglasses May Actually Be Dangerous

“There is a lot of excitement around this celestial event, but we cannot reinforce how important it is to take safety precautions when viewing the eclipse,” Vann says. “It is never safe to look directly at the sun and the eclipse is no different.”

But given the fact that the sun is partially or fully covered, we have a tendency to look at the sun, even inadvertently, thinking it’s safe, but that couldn’t be further from the truth, says Dr. T. Powers Griffin Jr., an optometrist from Laguna Niguel, California, and member of the American Academy of Optometry.

Vann adds that the only exception may be during the brief moments of totality — when the moon directly lines up with the sun, blocking its rays — that some parts of the country will experience.

“Experts claim it is then safe to remove your eclipse glasses,” he says. “But even then, it is still very important to be vigilant to protect your eyes before and after totality.”

How can it hurt your eyes?

As children, Eifrig explains, many of us would use a magnifying glass and the power of the sun’s rays to burn holes in leaves or an ant on a sidewalk. Similarly, the eye serves as a magnifier of the sun’s rays and focuses the powerful light directly onto the most crucial part of your vision—the retina, he adds.

“Looking at the sun can be uncomfortable, but it will not cause physical pain, so people don’t realize they are damaging their vision,” Vann explains. In the short term, excessive exposure to UV can literally burn the cornea, just like it does the skin, causing redness, pain, loss of vision and a feeling of grittiness. Looking at the sun can also cause solar retinopathy, which occurs when bright light from the sun floods the retina after staring at the sun for too long, Vann adds.

Both Griffin and Vann note that the sun’s damage is cumulative, so the effects of looking at an eclipse may not show up until years later and can be temporary, but oftentimes is permanent.

MoreThese Foods Can Improve Your Eyesight

And more bad news: There is no medical or surgical treatment for solar retinopathy — only prevention, Eifrig cautions.

Are there any ways that you are able to safely look at the solar eclipse?

Only eclipse glasses will protect your eyes. Regular or dark sunglasses or even welder's glasses will not protect your eyes.

Nearly all doctors I interviewed agreed. If you do opt for solar eclipse glasses, make sure to buy ones made with special filters and coating to remove nearly 100 percent of the harmful light. Specifically, you need to look for glasses that meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard. Your best bet is to follow NASA guidelines, because there have been reports of fake glasses that don’t offer the same protection.

Vann says he has concerns with the eclipse glasses, because “it’s nearly impossible for the average consumer to be certain they’re getting the right level of protection to keep their eyes safe, especially with so many counterfeit products flooding the market.”

And think twice before trying to snap something for Instagram. According to Dr. Ravi Menghani, an ophthalmologist at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, don’t use telescopes, cameras or other mobile device cameras that do not have a special filter to view the sun — even with the special sunglasses on. The sun's harmful rays become concentrated and will cause harm to your eyes.

Another option is to make a simple pinhole camera, Griffin suggests. To do so, punch a very small hole in the middle of one piece of paper. Grab a second piece of paper and place it about two feet from the first piece. Then, during the eclipse, take the piece of paper with the pinhole and hold it above your shoulder to let the sun strike it. An image of the sun will be projected onto the second piece of paper, giving viewers an image of the eclipse, he adds.

Vann says that he will be watching the eclipse on NASA TV.

“My practice will be live-streaming the NASA broadcast in our parking lot, as well as providing the materials for pinhole projection, so that my team — and my patients — can experience the event without damaging our eyes,” he adds.
