Polite but Deadly Clapbacks to Unsolicited Parenting Advice

$

When you have a child, it often seems like anyone and everyone who comes into contact with you suddenly has carte blanche to dispense parenting advice. More often than not, that advice is not only unwanted, but completely misguided. When total strangers cluck disapprovingly at, say, your infant chewing on their thumb or you get pitying looks when you breastfeed your toddler or your mom feels the need to interject with just one more pearl of wisdom, it can feel like you can’t bite your tongue hard enough.

Of course, staying silent is often the best option, but for those moments when you've just got to say something in response, we’ve rounded up seven polite — but deadly — clapbacks to shut up the advice-giver and guarantee you get the last laugh.

Deliver these retorts with a raised eyebrow and punctuate with a shut-the-fuck-up smile before you turn and confidently walk away, leaving the advice-giver wide-eyed with their jaw on the floor. And cue your victory lap song.

“I’ll give that suggestion all the consideration it deserves.”

Translation: Your words mean literally nothing to me. This is a nicer way of letting someone know that no, you will not be giving their suggestion any consideration whatsoever, so they can just shut up. Bonus: This also works for non-parenting advice from coworkers, bosses, significant others — broad-spectrum clapback, right here.

“Interesting opinion. Are you a pediatrician?”

Unless this person is a trained, board-certified child professional, they know where they can shove their opinion. People think that just because they read an article in a magazine, they are now an expert on a certain topic of child-rearing. Did they go to medical school? No? Then what makes them think they're qualified to prescribe your child's sleep schedule/diet/vitamins/etc.?

"Yes, I’d heard people used to give that advice.”

Translation: We live in the 21st century, and what you just said is ridiculous. Heroin used to be sold as a cough suppressant, folks. But we don’t give that to our kids anymore either. This comeback is often well suited for older friends/family members/strangers and can work as a solid reminder that just because they spanked/whipped/dosed their kids with whiskey back in the day, that doesn’t mean it wasn't a terrible idea.

More: Dear Internet: Stop Blaming Parents for Tragic Accidents

“I don’t remember asking, but thanks for your input.”

In the age of Facebook status updates detailing your lunch order, it seems that everyone feels the need to not only thrust their opinion onto the nearest unsuspecting bystander, but also to believe that said opinion is necessary and bears all kinds of weight. But, in lieu of screaming “WHO ASKED YOU?!” an inch away from the advice-giver's face (which is what you really want to do — we get it) this comeback is a more graceful way of reminding them that their comment is unwelcome.

“Thanks, I’ve got it covered,” or “Thank you for sharing.”

This is a simple, straightforward reply that doesn’t mince words or hide your meaning. Thanks. I hear you, and the words that are coming out of your mouth, but I disagree/want to slap you, so step off.

Just state the obvious

For example, in response to, “Oh, a thumb-sucker! That’s bad," say “No, crack cocaine is bad.” In response to, “He’s 2 years old, and you’re still breastfeeding him? That’s pornographic!” say, “No, pornography is pornographic.”

Is it great to feed your kid ice cream for dinner? No. But will it kill them? No. If someone tells you what you’re doing or what your child is doing is wrong/bad/terrible, remind them just how hyperbolic that is. "No, racism is wrong." "No, sexism is bad." "No, you are terrible." You get the idea.

Unfortunately, a surefire way to avoid all unwanted parenting advice has not yet been invented — but being polite doesn’t always mean swallowing your honest feelings about said parenting “guidance." It just means being tactful in the delivery. So, go ahead and express your disdain while maintaining (some) composure and getting the last word in. Employ these clapbacks whenever necessary, and you're basically guaranteed that will be the last piece of advice you ever get from that person. Unless that person is your mother. In which case, no promises.

DWTS Is Giving Tonya Harding a Gift No One Else Has

Rarely does a comeback story quite as compelling as Tonya Harding's come along. No one expected the former Olympian to bounce back after her highly publicized fall from grace in 1994. Just when you thought she was gone for good, she reemerged in 2017 thanks to a dramatized biopic of her life, I, Tonya. Now, the once-shunned figure skater says her current spin on Dancing with the Stars is giving her something she never expected: a second chance.

More: Here's What We Think Will Happen on DWTS This Season

"This truly is a fresh start, and I'm having a wonderful time," Harding told Us Weekly after surviving the dance competition's second week of cuts. And although she is admittedly horrible at responding to all of her newfound supporters on social media, the retired skater reveals she's happy that "for the most part, everybody has been just totally gracious and rooting for us."

It's perhaps that revelation that led Harding to soften her stance where her son Gordon is concerned. Originally, she vowed he wouldn't attend any live shows or be present in the public sphere so as to avoid any scrutiny. However, both Gordon and Harding's husband, Joseph Price, were on hand on Monday to watch Harding hoof it to the country hit "Redneck Woman."

"We let my son come too because it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and I wanted him to see it," she told reporters afterward.

Despite the disgraced figure skater's surprisingly easy transition back into the spotlight, though, not everyone has forgiven and forgotten. When asked on Saturday about his competitor, fellow contestant and figure skater Adam Rippon didn't mince words, telling USA Today, "I've interacted with Tonya very limitedly. I'm not avoiding her but I'm not not avoiding her."

Rest assured, the outspoken skater didn't leave his opinion up to interpretation. When asked directly what he thought about DWTS's "whitewashing" of Harding's role in the attack on Nancy Kerrigan (in promos, ABC dubbed her a "figure skating legend"), Rippon responded politely but pointedly.

"It was nice to see that she had a moment," he said of her first week's performance, "but it's also important to remember that skating wasn't taken away from her — that she was banned because she was part of a bad thing. I don't think that we should forget that."

For the time being, though, it looks like Rippon will have to continue artfully avoiding Harding. On Monday, both contestants from the figure skating world advanced to the next level of competition.

These Pre-workout Foods Will Help You Burn Even More Fat

Show of hands if you're the type of person who doesn't eat before hitting the gym. It's OK. You can be honest.

Now, if you are, it's time to stop — because not only does not eating make you dizzy, lethargic and lightheaded at the gym (making you more prone to injury), but it also prevents you from truly getting the most out of your workout.

It's true: Eating the right pre-workout snacks before your workout turns your body into a powerful fat-burning machine. So, we turned to the experts in our quest for the ultimate pre-workout snacks, and they were eager to share some of their favorite fat-burning foods.

More: Top 10 Functional Exercises for a Full-Body Workout

Sarah Waybright, registered dietitian and owner/founder of WhyFoodWorks, LLC, says the best choice for a pre-workout snack is one that is mostly carbohydrates.

"Your body uses carbohydrates it has stored (called glycogen), so your snack will help replenish and preserve those stores to help minimize damage to your muscles and increase endurance," says Waybright.

She recommends having one of the following snacks 15 to 30 minutes before you hit the gym:

  • Small glass of 100 percent juice
  • Banana
  • Piece of toast

Martina M. Cartwright, a registered dietitian, author, speaker and adjunct professor of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Arizona, recommends eating one of the following high-carb snacks about an hour before a physical exertion to encourage fat burning:

  • A handful or two of Cheerios (or a bowl of them with a touch of low fat milk)
  • A slice of whole wheat toast or half of a bagel
  • A piece of whole fruit
  • A few whole wheat crackers
  • Half-cup of pasta with a touch of butter
  • Half-cup of rice with a touch of oil
  • Half-cup of oatmeal with a few raisins

"Carbohydrates are digested faster than fat or protein," explains Cartwright. "This is important, as eating too much fat or protein or even a large-carb meal within two hours before a workout will drive blood flow to the stomach, not the muscles. Carbohydrates are rapidly used up during a workout, leaving fat as the fuel the body will burn once the workout gets started."

More: Exercising for People Who Hate Exercise

Jasmine Jafferali, corporate lifestyle and wellness consultant in fitness, wellness, and nutrition, says Low Glycemic Index and low-fructose foods will provide the best pre-workout burn. "Low GI foods are slow to release in the bloodstream and fill up your glycogen stores, allowing you to go a little longer and harder in your workout," she explains.

If you're exercising in the morning, Jafferali recommends one of these tasty snack options:

  • A protein shake made with a half-cup of coffee, half-cup of coconut milk and one scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup of raspberries and 10 ounces of unsweetened Greek yogurt

Whatever you do, don't make the mistake of thinking that exercising on an empty stomach is a good idea.

"Some people think not eating before working out is a great fat-burning strategy," says Katie Fingerhut Heaney, a registered dietitian, food writer and business owner based in St. Louis, Missouri. "But the reality is, the body will use whatever energy is available, including whatever carbohydrate is there — protein, muscle and fat. If someone is exercising on an empty stomach, they might not have enough energy to perform a quality workout."

Nothing will make moms everywhere cry more on Mother's Day than a heartfelt, moving song dedicated just to her. But for those of us who aren't musically gifted, the next best thing is writing our hearts out in a card and playing her a ballad that echoes your sentiment.

From Drake to Christina Aguilera, there are plenty of songs that'll tug at her (and your!) heartstrings. We've rounded up 17 of the best songs that artists have lovingly dedicated to the women who raised them.

1. "Hey Mama" by Kanye West

kanye west hey mama

West's deeply personal song (from his second studio album Late Registration) describes his love and appreciation for his mother, Donda West, who raised him amid personal hardships. After her death in 2007, West performed the song as a tribute to his mom during several of his concerts.

"There's nothing that she loved more than to come to the shows and scream louder than any fan, because she was my first fan that was screaming before anybody else, and my first manager,” he said at a 2007 show. "So I just wanna take this time out — I wanna dedicate this to my mother because the words, the lyrics to the song, it really connects to me and it really explains, and then it says exactly what she would want me to do — and that’s not stop believing."

2. "Mama's Song" by Carrie Underwood

Underwood features her real-life mom in the video for this track in which she thanks her mother for teaching her to do the right thing and assures her not to worry as she gets married and enters her next chapter.

"Carrie just came out with that first line, 'Mama, you taught me to do the right things.' And this was before she was engaged, obviously, but she was in a relationship. We knew where this was coming from," songwriter Luke Laird told The Boot about writing the song with Underwood.

3. "Ring Off" by Beyoncé

This Beyoncé song pays tribute to her mother, Tina, and specifically her handling of her divorce from her now-former husband (and Beyoncé's dad) Mathew.

"My biggest hero is and always will be my mother," Beyoncé told Garage magazine in 2016. “She has taught me about caring for others, working hard and working smart. Everything I know about being a mother comes from the examples she has shown. My mother has instilled confidence in my sister and me and taught us to always be grateful."

4. "The Best Day" by Taylor Swift

Swift's emotional ode to her mom will leave you and your own mother feeling teary and appreciative.

"'The Best Day' is a song that I wrote without telling my mom," Swift told Taste of Country in 2011. "I wrote it in the summertime, and I recorded it secretly, too. I had this idea that I wanted to play it for her for Christmas. So when I got the track I synced up all of these home videos from when I was a little kid to go along with the song like a music video, and played it for her on Christmas Eve and she was crying her eyes out."

5. "Mom" by Meghan Trainor

Trainor's sassy and upbeat tune, which was featured in the movie Mother's Day, features an actual recording of her mother, Kelli Trainor.

"With that session, I wrote and produced the song with my little brother at home," Trainor told Official Charts in 2016. "I then took it to this big producer called Johan Carlsson, who I love, and I asked him to beef it up. We re-wrote the verses and beefed up the production with real horns, because it's a doo-wop-y song, but we didn't have bridge for it. He suggested we call her up and record her on a big microphone, so I called her and said, 'I really love you mum… tell me how much you love me!', and we recorded her response and cut it up. I've played it to a few people, and they just break."

In his debut album, Love Hate, The-Dream mourns his late mother in this melodic tribute song, "Mama."

In the song, The-Dream sings: "I'll let you know, I wanna let you know, mother, oh/I wanna let you know how I've been thinkin' 'bout you/How I've been thinkin' of you/Always thinkin' of you."

7. "The Perfect Fan" by Backstreet Boys

Throw it back to the '90s with this BSB song in which the boy banders declare their love and appreciation for their moms.

Member Brian Littrell wrote the song about his mother, and — fun fact — it's backed by his high school choir. "She bawled like a baby when she heard it," he told Rolling Stone in 1999.

8. "Dear Mama" by Tupac Shakur

In this song, the late Shakur pays tribute to his mama, Afeni Shakur, who died in 2016.

"The emotional, the sad songs, were his personal favorites," said Johnny "J," one of Tupac Shakur's producers.

9. "Oh Mother" by Christina Aguilera

Aguilera's down-tempo piano and string ballad is an ode to her single mother and thanks her for being strong enough to leave her abusive ex-husband.

"I watched my mom have to be submissive, watch her Ps and Qs or she's gonna get beat up," she told Paper magazine in March. You can either be, unfortunately, so damaged by it that you take a turn for the worse, or you can feel empowered by it and make choices to never go down that route."

10. "Look What You've Done" by Drake

Drake - Look What You've Done

Not every mommy tribute has to be a ballad, as Drake proves on this track in which he thanks his mother and the rest of his family for making him the man he is today.

The lyrics cut deep too: "You love me and I love you/And your heart hurts, mine does too/And it's just words and they cut deep/But it's our world, it's just us two."

11. "Coat of Many Colors" by Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton - Coat of many colors

Parton's classic song, which has been turned into a children's book and a film, tells the true story of a coat her mother sewed her that was made of rugs, but stitched with love.

"The song means so much to me personally because it is a true story from my childhood, about a little ragged coat that Mama made for me, and tried to make me feel proud of it by telling [me] the story of Joseph from the Bible," Parton told the Tennessean in 2015. "The song is really, really special, and we've made it into a movie now, and hopefully through the years, people will be able to see that and connect with family. It kind of takes me back in time. That song will always be very special to me."

12. "Mama" by The Spice Girls

Spice Girls - Mama

The concept for this '90s hit from the Spice Girls was initially conceived by Mel B, who was going through a rough patch with her mom at the time. The song discusses how moms are the best friends anyone has no matter how much you may disagree at times.

"We wrote 'Mama' when I was going through a bad phase with my mum," she explained in the book Real Life: Real Spice The Official Story. "The sentiments are really that your mum's probably the best friend that you've got. Whether she's an over-protective mother or a bit of a landmine, she probably knows you better than yourself in some ways."

13. "Turn to You" by Justin Bieber

Bieber released this song for his mom, Patricia Mallette, two days before Mother's Day in 2012.

"[It's] about the struggles, I say in the song," Bieber told MTV at the time. "She had me at like the age I am now. [It's about] just the struggles she went through and how brave she was, and I think the world needed to know that."

Released back in 2013, family band The Band Perry wrote a song all about their mom.

"That was the most honest song we wrote for Pioneer," Kimberly Perry said to Billboard. "We were relaxing, and going through some song ideas. Neil had this one line written on his phone, 'If the world had a mother like mine.' We are started to think about what the world would look like if our mother had raised it the way she raised us. The opening line of the chorus says, 'The wars would all be over, because she'd raise us all as friends.' Our mother is our personal hero. We are her labor of love. It's our honor to our mother on Pioneer."

NBC's Investigation Into Matt Lauer Turns Up Troubling Results

Prepare for a surprise, because that's all the awaits those who have wondered whether Matt Lauer will face any negative professional repercussions in the wake of allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior made against him in November 2017. While Lauer has kept a very low profile since the allegations came to light and since his subsequent exit from Good Morning America, NBC has been conducting an investigation. The results were made public on Wednesday through E! News (amongst other outlets) and they are interesting, to put it mildly.

More: Matt Lauer Is Finally Talking After 5 Months of Silence in Exile

The investigation, led by NBCUniversal general counsel Kim Harris, began shortly after Lauer was fired from the network in late 2017. NBC interviewed 68 current and former employees about Lauer's behavior and they also looked into any human resources records to see if complaints were made.

Some of the more notable conclusions from the investigation include this statement about Lauer's behavior: "We found no evidence indicating that any NBC News or Today Show leadership, News HR or others in positions of authority in the News Division received any complaints about Lauer's workplace behavior prior to November 27, 2017."

If we go deeper into the report, we see that the women interviewed in this investigation reportedly only had "positive things to say" about Lauer's behavior at work. Additionally, there seemed to be a general acknowledgment that Lauer's behavior crossed the line, but there's no consensus on if he ever crossed the line. "[A] number of individuals interviewed said that Lauer could be flirtatious, would frequently make jokes, some with sexual overtones, and would openly engage in sexually-oriented banter in the workplace," the report notes.

It continues at a later point, "[S]everal women also credibly described to the investigation team being the subject of what they believed was a sexual overture from Lauer in which he complimented them on their appearance in sexually suggestive ways. According to these women, Lauer did not pursue them further when they deflected or ignored the overture, and they did not experience any retaliation. All these women stated that they did not report this behavior to anyone in a position of authority."

More: Matt Lauer Is "Embarrassed & Ashamed" at How Different His Life Is Now

NBC's findings seem to be in contradiction with what's been alleged up until this point. As an example, in April, Lauer's former coworker, Ann Curry, claimed that she had reported Lauer for sexual harassment on behalf of another female colleague in 2012 (NBC claims to have no record of that complaint). It's not clear if there is a record of the complaint against Lauer that directly led to his termination in 2017.

It's troublesome that there is somehow no record at NBC of complaints filed against Lauer and yet he was ultimately terminated. Either there were complaints, in which case a termination could be justified. Or, if there were no complaints, Lauer shouldn't have been terminated because that would mean he was wrongfully expelled from NBC which only deepens the issues around this case.

More: Matt Lauer Is Making Life Changes, Even if It's Not What He Wants

Also, it's not really clear why there's a discrepancy between the reports previous and NBC's published findings, but Lauer's statement about the report seems to even chafe against the implication he behaved inappropriately whatsoever.

"There are aspects of the NBC report with which I clearly disagree," he stated. "However, I spent 25 wonderful years at the network, 20 of those at Today, and I'm extremely proud of what we accomplished as a team. On November 29, 2017, I was terminated by NBC after admitting to past relationships with co-workers. A day later I took responsibility for those relationships, apologized to the people I hurt and promised to begin the process of repairing the damage I had caused my family. I have worked every day since then to honor that promise."

There's no word yet on whether Lauer will return to work in any capacity anytime soon.

Olivia Munn's Mother's Day Gift Is So Extra, But You'll Love it Anyway

Mother's Day is right around the corner — have you gotten your mom a gift yet? Olivia Munn has stayed vigilant and already given her mom a pretty out-of-this-world gift, so if you need any ideas for your own gift-giving, you might want to take a page out of her book. Be forewarned: it's a very next-level kind of gift, so you might not be able to do exactly as Munn does, but we'll applaud you if you try.

It's not often that we hear about Munn's parents, but Mother's Day has provided fans with a unique opportunity to get a more intimate look at her family and, more specifically, her relationship with her mother. Munn's very tight bond with her mom led her to team up with Houzz for their series, My Houzz, where a celebrity works with the home design company to gift a home renovation to a family member or friend who they feel deserves it. Munn chose her mother and as a result, we not only get to see what kind of design choices Munn makes for her mom and her mom's reaction to the renovation, but we also get to hear more about Munn's life with her mom growing up.

The episode, available on the Houzz TV YouTube channel, begins with Munn explaining why she chose her mom for the surprise renovation and giving viewers a bit of insight into their relationship.

Olivia Munn My Houzz Reno Video

"She's going to be her, no matter where you are, and I think that's what's made us so close," she stated, explaining at another point in the pre-interview, "I want to give this renovation to my mother because if there's anybody in the world I think deserves it, it's her. [...] My mother and all of her uniqueness has definitely shaped who I am today. I think the thing that I've learned most from my mother is how to be strong. Thank god my mom always instilled this feeling of self-worth in me, and that I knew my dreams mattered, even if they were close to impossible. Without that, I never would've tried it in Hollywood."

There's a lot of fun things for home renovation nerds to get excited over in the episode (HGTV fans, this means you!), but the best part of the episode is, undoubtedly, the big reveal with Munn's mom by her side. From the minute they step into the house, Munn's mom is so overjoyed with the transformation. Watching her flit about the house to check out every new detail is so precious and pure — you honestly might feel compelled to call you mom and connect with her after seeing this part.

This Breathing Technique Can Calm You Down in 5 Minutes or Less

There is no escaping stress. Even the most Zen people in your life have moments when they feel like they're losing control. Anxiety levels in America are increasing. It may all seem overwhelming, but there is a simple, effective technique that can help. And did we mention that it's free?

Yes, we're talking about deep breathing. It's one of those things that is so obvious, but so helpful — when you actually do it correctly. So, how can you use deep breathing to help you calm down, and why does it work? Dr. Nina Smiley, a psychologist and director of mindfulness programming at the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York, shared her knowledge on the topic.

More: I Tried Forest Bathing, & It's Not What You'd Expect

What to do

Before you dismiss breathing as a stress reducer because you're not someone who regularly practices yoga or meditation — don't! No previous experience is required to reap the benefits of deep breathing.

"If you find yourself in a stressful situation, immediately turn your focus to your breathing pattern," Smiley tells SheKnows.

Start by centering yourself through slow, full breaths.

"As you inhale and exhale, silently say to yourself 'in' and 'out.' During this cycle, if a thought comes into the mind, gently and nonjudgmentally acknowledge it, let it go and return to the breath," Smiley explains. "Using mindful breathing, you will find your mind more clear and your body more relaxed, allowing you to handle the stressful situation as skillfully as possible."

For extra-stressful situations when you may be looking for more of a quick-start, Smiley suggests clenching the muscles in your body as you inhale fully and holding your breath for a moment.

"As you breathe out slowly, release all the tension in your body," she says. "This will help you physically let go of stress. You’ll feel the immediacy of the change as you begin and continue mindful breathing."

Why it works

To start with, when you stop (or slow down) what you're doing to take a breath, it gives you a minute to take a break (even if it's a short one) from whatever it is that's causing your stress. But more than that, it has beneficial physical effects on the body.

More: A Beginner's Guide to Meditation

"Breathing helps us combat stress by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows your heart rate and allows you to relax," Smiley explains. "As you practice breathing and meditation more regularly, you begin to build a new neural path in the brain that you can access during stressful times."

Ultimately, breathing techniques and meditation can lead to significant benefits, like lowered blood pressure, enhanced focus, improved relationships and increased productivity, Smiley says.

So, the next time you're feeling overwhelmed with stress or anxiety, take a minute to breathe — it may help calm you down and put things into perspective.

5 Black Beauty Editor-Approved Sunscreens That Won’t Make Your Skin Look Ashy

$

Long after I’ve retired from this beauty editor gig, I’ll still be hammering the importance of sun protection into people’s heads. In my twentysomething years of living, it remains one of the most overlooked skin care habits, even as we continue to learn more about the connection between sun exposure and a handful of life-threatening diseases; ever heard of a little thing called skin cancer?

The list of excuses for not wearing sunscreen every day is long and tired. If you have time to drink a gallon of water every day or apply an entire makeup beat in minutes, surely you can make a little room for SPF. And when you consider the number of beauty products actually infused with protection properties, I mean… come on. It has to end here, even if you’ve got brown skin like me and are convinced SPF almost always leaves a white, chalky cast. The assumption that darker skin is immune to serious sun damage is one of the most dangerous myths out there. And for some reason, we keep believing it.

“Although darker skin does have more natural protection from the sun, daily broad-spectrum sunscreen use with an SPF of at least 30 is still highly recommended,” says Dr. Valerie D. Callender, medical director of Callender Dermatology & Cosmetic Center. “All skin incurs free-radical damage from UV radiation and the potential for skin cancer, regardless of color.”

Now, I’ll admit that the struggle can be real. More often than not, sunscreens made with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide — which happen to be the most widely used SPF ingredients — aren’t the most flattering on brown skin. But there are other options that don’t make us look like Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Alternatively, you can invest in SPF products that use a lower concentration of those ingredients since they do actually provide the protection we need. Ahead are five that I’ve actually tried and can recommend as viable options for darker skin.

This formula feels extra juicy when you first apply, but it’s quick-absorbing, transparent and doesn’t need an overabundance of rubbing in. It also has that Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation, so you know the experts would actually recommend it.

Callender adds that although it “contains zinc oxide at 9 percent, the micronized form used in conjunction with 7.5 percent octinoxate provides excellent protection without causing the gray hue often associated with zinc oxide use. This formula also contains silymarin and caffeine, two ingredients that add extra protection against the free-radical damage caused by UV exposure.”

Black-Beauty-Editor-Approved Sunscreens: Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen

I’m lucky enough to have skin that isn’t super-problematic, but it does get oilier than usual between seasons. Right now, I’ve got oil-blotting sheets in my purse along with this oil-free formula that dries into a matte finish. It makes for an awesome primer under makeup, but if you are wearing foundation, make sure that has some form of UV protection in it too.

Black-Beauty-Editor-Approved Sunscreens: Palmer’s Eventone Suncare Sunscreen Stick SPF 50

Cocoa butter is a staple moisturizer in our community, so a small part of me knew I would love this SPF-infused option that can be applied to the skin in the same way a deodorant is applied to the armpit. My only caveat is that all-too-familiar cocoa butter scent, which can be overwhelming if you love wearing fragrance every day.

Black-Beauty-Editor-Approved Sunscreens: Biossance Squalane + Mineral SPF 45

I’ve waxed poetic about the wonders of squalane oil before, and this sunscreen harnesses its moisturizing benefits along with a high level of SPF. My only tip would be to really blend this one in. When you first apply it to the skin, it does give off a gray cast because the formula is on the thicker side. But once it’s completely rubbed in, it gives the skin a matte feel that sits comfortably under makeup.

Black-Beauty-Editor-Approved Sunscreens: Australian Gold Mineral Lotion Non-Greasy

I’m definitely trying to incorporate more clean beauty products into my routine, which is why I tried this chemical-free botanical option. This one also requires a lot of blending, but my favorite thing about it is that it doesn’t transfer to the top of my shirts when I’m getting dressed and undressed. And the slight tint it leaves on your skin washes away easily with water. If you want that bronze glow without having to spend a ton on a bronzing oil, this is definitely an affordable alternative (with SPF to boot).

Why NCIS Needs to End After Season 16

The 15th season of NCIS (yes, the 15th) will soon come to an end. For fans who still adore the series, they'll be happy to know the CBS drama is returning for Season 16 — and with Mark Harmon in tow.

More: Give NCIS' Abby Sciuto Her Own Spinoff Show

Even though it's been renewed, NCIS needs to end after Season 16. Before fans who still adore the series get upset, let's be clear: we don't hate the procedural. It still has a lot of great elements, like Mark Harmon as Gibbs, the wit and humor of the show as a whole and that feeling of comfort many get while watching. NCIS does feel like home. You always know what you're going to get when you tune in.

However, since Michael Weatherly exited the series as Tony DiNozzo in Season 13, it hasn't been the same. It was hard enough when we had to say goodbye to Cote de Pablo (Ziva David), but when Weatherly announced his departure, it was like a punch to the gut. From that moment on, the show lost some of its oomph. Between the new characters and the fresh stories, NCIS really hasn't felt like NCIS anymore.

The drama has lost steam it built up over past seasons, and it doesn't seem like it will ever get back to what it was and what made us excited for a new episode. And now, with Pauley Perrette, our beloved Abby Sciuto, gone, where does the show go from here?

More: NCIS: 15 Heartbreaking Gibbs Moments

For us? The best solution would be for Season 16 to be the show's last — and to use this opportunity to go out with a bang, rather than dragging things out for years to come. And, believe us when we say we don't like writing about how we want NCIS to end. It saddens us to realize that we don't enjoy it as much as we once did, but sometimes good things should come to an end — before they turn bad.

And with that, here just a few of the reasons we think NCIS needs to take its final bow come spring 2019.

Most of the original cast is gone

NCIS Abby Sciuto

Here's who remains from the original cast, when NCIS premiered in 2003: Harmon (Gibbs), Sean Murray (McGee), Brian Dietzen (Palmer — yes, he was in Season 1) and David McCallum (Ducky), although he only shows up from time to time these days. That's it. Four characters. That's how much NCIS has changed.

Series are constantly evolving and characters developing, because if they didn't, there wouldn't be much point in tuning in. But NCIS has changed too much in terms of characters. There are a lot of new characters, who, frankly, are just OK. They aren't as special as the original cast. We don't feel as connected to them as we did to those who've left and to those OG characters still standing.

NCIS is known for introducing fresh faces, but it hasn't been easy warming up to all the new additions from the past several years. It's taken a while to get to know this new mix of people and figure out if we even like them. Reeves (Duane Henry, who exited the series in Abby's final episode), Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), Sloane (Maria Bello), Quinn (Jennifer Esposito, who left after Season 14) — it's been a lot to digest.

When you don't feel like you connect with certain characters, what's the point? A TV show is all about the characters — and ones you relate to.

It needs to go out on a high note

NCIS Gibbs

When it comes to TV, a series should always know when to say "enough is enough." Some of the best shows have only had a few seasons: Orphan Black was five, and Downton Abbey was only six. There are even rumors that Jane the Virgin will end with Season 5. As devastating as that would be, because the CW series is phenomenal, a show ending when it's at its peak isn't a bad thing.

Actually, going out on a high note is the way to do it. You can look back and be like, "That series was great from beginning to end," not, "That series was so good when it started, but really lost its way. It needed to be canceled."

It seems like NCIS has gone past its high note, though it could possibly still be saved if Season 16 were done correctly and CBS decided to pull the plug. Seeing as NCIS does so well and still has many loyal viewers, who knows if ending it is even a possibility.

It's lost some of its spark

NCIS Torres

Do you remember the days when you couldn't get enough of NCIS? You just had to watch to see what ridiculous prank Tony would play on McGee, if Tiva was finally going to kiss, if Gibbs was going to get caught for murdering the man who killed his wife and daughter or that one overall gripping storyline you just had to tune in for. Those were the good old days.

Now? Well, NCIS just doesn't have the same spark. It doesn't hold our attention like it used to. We only half-watch some episodes because, well, they can be kind of boring. We even put off watching sometimes, since it almost seems like work to get through certain episodes.

You may be thinking, "If you hate it so much, why do you still watch it?" Honestly, we've been watching it since the very beginning, and as any die-hard fan of a TV series knows, it's not that easy to get rid of a series that's been part of your life for 15 years. Plus, how can anyone just cut themselves off from Gibbs cold turkey? It's hard. And we also keep thinking, "Well, maybe it will get better."

Admittedly, some of Season 15's episodes were good, like the episode when McGee's twins were born. But the episodes are really hit or miss, which isn't the NCIS we know and love. We haven't even said, "This season is so good!" in a really long time. Back in the day, every season was good, and that just isn't the case anymore.

More: 31 Celebs You Didn't Realize Guest Starred on NCIS

There are hardly any women

Bishop NCIS

Without Abby, there are only two main female characters: Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Sloane. Compare that to the six other main characters who are men: Gibbs, McGee, Vance, Ducky, Palmer and Torres. Of course, this could change, and let's hope it does.

We aren't trying to hate on the men at all, because we especially love us some Gibbs, but it's ridiculous that there aren't more women in a permanent capacity. We miss the days when it was Ziva, Abby and Jenny (Lauren Holly). Three was better than two, especially since Jenny was the director of NCIS and calling most of the shots. Even making Delilah (Margo Harshman) a series regular would be a massive improvement.

Not having more of a female perspective really impacts a show. The loss of Abby is going to have a huge effect. Both Perrette and Abby inspired women of all ages to follow their STEM dreams. We need more women telling women's stories. Does NCIS tell a lot of their stories? Yes, but it would be nice if there were more main female characters telling them.

If NCIS is going to let the men rule the show and not cast more women, then it should just stop after Season 16. In a time when women are at the forefront and taking the world even more by storm, they deserve to be at the front and center of NCIS.

The day we have to say goodbye to NCIS will be a sad one, for sure, but we'd rather part ways sooner rather than later, while we can still enjoy what we're seeing onscreen.

Why Your Annual OB-GYN Visit May Be the Key to a Healthy Heart

For many women, their annual visit to the OB-GYN serves as their primary access to health care. We may not be visiting our general practitioners for regular whole-body checkups, but we are (rightfully) concerned about getting breast exams and Pap tests. That's why the American Heart Association and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recently issued a joint advisory that encourages collaboration between OB-GYNs and cardiologists to help identify early signs of heart disease in women and work with their patients on preventing it.

According to the AHA, more than 90 percent of women have at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and fewer than half (45 percent) know that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in America, so incorporating heart health into yearly OB-GYN exams could have a big impact.

As a result, those annual exams are “a powerful opportunity to counsel patients about achieving and maintaining a heart-healthy lifestyle, which is a cornerstone of maintaining heart health,” AHA President Dr. John Warner, an executive vice president at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, said in a statement.

After years of ignoring or misdiagnosing women's heart issues — because heart attack symptoms look different in women than in men — medical professionals are also realizing that traditional heart health risks (high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and obesity) may affect women differently than men. In other words, this is more than a matter of recognizing whether a woman is in cardiac arrest in an emergency room, but also means incorporating more effective preventative measures.

More: Knowing the Symptoms of a Heart Attack & Cardiac Arrest in Women Could Save a Life

Not only that, but various reproductive milestones, like menopause and pregnancy, can also affect heart health, so adding a cardiovascular component to annual OB-GYN visits makes sense. In addition, preterm delivery and pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes can increase the risk of developing heart disease.

“Pregnancy is essentially a ‘stress test’ for women, and these adverse pregnancy outcomes can be used to identify women who are at an increased risk for [heart disease], even in those for whom the conditions resolve after delivery,” according to the advisory.

Furthermore, if someone doesn't have health insurance, their medical options are limited, so for many people, their annual trip to the OB-GYN may be their only access to health care. And thanks to free clinics and organizations like Planned Parenthood, the yearly well-woman visits can be more accessible than appointments with general practitioners.

As a result, these OB-GYN appointments often involve discussing other health factors, like nutrition, stress, weight and exercise, so extending this to include cardiovascular health (in a more official capacity) is the next logical step.

More5 Things You Need to Know About Eating Disorders & Your Heart

“Many women carry these risk factors for cardiovascular disease, and we should be counseling them on lifestyle modification and further follow-up,” Dr. Haywood L. Brown, outgoing president of ACOG and professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and a coauthor of the advisory, said in a statement. “Many of them don’t see their cardiologist or internist until there is a problem. This partnership is key. It’s about early counseling and early intervention.”

Your Month-by-Month Guide to Childbirth Recovery

$

We all know that pregnancy and childbirth are hard. But not as many people talk about how hard postpartum recovery can be — physically and emotionally. In the U.S., new parents are often expected to go back to work just six to eight weeks or less after giving birth. But it takes a lot longer to fully recover after childbirth. In fact, most new birth parents need at least a year to get back to feeling a sense of normalcy.

With that in mind, we've put together a month-by-month guide to that very first year of "new normal" — meant to help parents protect their self-esteem, manage expectations and understand the realities involved in letting themselves heal while also caring for a new baby. Keep in mind that while this guide is focused on parents, a lot of what we experience during postpartum recovery is directly tied to what’s happening with our quickly developing baby as they reach their month-by-month milestones.

More:  6 Postpartum Fitness Tips That Won't Scare the Life Out of You

Month 1: Time warp

The first month after childbirth is a whirlwind. You’re basically in survival mode, running on adrenaline from the stress and responsibility you feel from caring for a tiny little human. Time becomes fluid. You, like your newborn, may not be able to distinguish between day and night. Plus, you might forget to shower or brush your teeth, and you will probably stay in pajamas for days or weeks. Hey, no judgment here. You are fully consumed by taking care of yourself and your baby, and that’s OK.

Some first-month things to note:

  • Lochia can last up to six to eight weeks. It will be like a heavy period at first and then taper off/get lighter over time. Use pads, not tampons.

  • If you had a vaginal birth, Epsom salts for sitz baths are great for recovery, especially if you have stitches.

  • If you had a C-section, it will hurt when you cough or laugh or sit up or walk for a while. Hold a pillow to your belly for support. And take it easy; you just had major surgery.

  • It might be about a week after giving birth before you feel like you can poop quasi-normally. You can take stool softeners to help keep things painless, and if you end up with hemorrhoids (or even if you don't) witch hazel pads, lidocaine spray and suppositories can be helpful.

  • You’ll want to use the peri-bottle the hospital gives you to spray your perineum when you go to the bathroom for the first couple of weeks.

  • Your breasts will likely be engorged and uncomfortable when your milk comes in, and it will take a few weeks to regulate your milk supply. If you’re planning to breastfeed, you may want to pump after feedings to relieve some pressure — and freeze some milk for later.

  • Breastfeeding truly runs the gamut; it can be easy, difficult, pleasant, painful or all of the above. And it can take quite a while to get the hang of it, so be patient — and don't beat yourself up if it doesn't work out. Remember: Fed is best.

  • Make sure you eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and drink lots of water. This is important to help your body heal (and is essential if you’re breastfeeding), so keep lots of nutritious snacks and a big bottle of water nearby. If you have friends or family who can cook or bring you meals, let them.

What I wish I'd known: You can get serious tears in the vulva/vaginal walls during childbirth that can require stitches and take up to 10 to 12 weeks to heal. Stock up on ice packs and ibuprofen.

Month 2: Overcoming exhaustion

This is when you may experience a new version of tiredness. Your lack of sleep over the past month starts catching up to you, but your baby will most likely still be waking up every three or four hours to eat.

  • You should have your postpartum checkup at six weeks, but don’t be afraid to call your provider before then if you have any questions or concerns.

  • You've probably heard the advice to "sleep when your baby sleeps" — and yes, it's easier said than done, but still important. More advice: Seek help from friends, family or professionals.

  • And speaking of friends and family, don’t feel like you need to welcome them all. Say no to visitors if you need to.

  • If you’re feeling down, don't brush it off. It could be the “baby blues,” or it could be more serious postpartum depression. Talk to your doctor right away.

  • You will most likely still be sore and/or weak — in your vagina or C-section scar as well as your back, neck, arms, abs and joints. But don’t try to jump back into exercise too soon. When you get the OK from your doctor, make sure you start slow. Start with Kegels and deep-core exercises before moving to something low-impact, like walking or swimming.

  • If you’re not breastfeeding, your period could return at six to eight weeks. Some women get cleared for sex at six to eight weeks, but you may not be ready yet. Listen to your body, and communicate with your partner.

  • You should’ve received all of your medical bills by now. Try not to stress out about finances — and ask about payment plans if you can’t pay the balance all at once.

What I wish I'd known: Some women experience a separation between their ab muscles after pregnancy called diastasis recti. Physical therapy as well as doing planks and the aforementioned deep-core exercises can help strengthen the core muscles slowly and safely to get rid of the separation.

Month 3: Taking care of you

You probably have a pretty solid routine by now, but at some point before (or at if you're lucky) the three-month mark, you'll likely have to reintegrate work into that routine. But don't let necessary self-care fall by the wayside once you're back to the daily grind.

  • If you're breastfeeding but are now away from your baby most of the day, pump often to avoid plugged ducts and mastitis.

  • Don't just commute home and pass out; brush and floss those teeth. They might feel extra-sensitive these days since pregnant and postpartum moms are at high risk for gum disease and tooth decay. Also, get your dentist appointment in the books.

  • You may notice you’re losing a lot of hair. Don’t worry; you’re not going bald. It’s just hormones.

  • Take time for yourself to help boost your mood, even if it's just taking a quick trip to the store or taking a nap or a shower. Try to meet up with friends or other parents when possible to commiserate.

Month 4: Surviving on baby smiles

At this point, fatigue is common. Good thing that baby is so darn cute.

  • If your baby experiences 4-month sleep regression, nights can be rough. If you can nap during the day or go to bed early, do so — you're going to need it. And don’t overbook yourself.

  • Increased stress can lower breast milk production — as can introducing pumping or formula if you haven't already — so just be mindful to keep pumping to maintain supply if you're not planning to wean quite yet; make sure to pump at least twice during an eight-hour workday if you want to keep it up.

  • If you had a C-section, your scar should be healed by now — but it could still be reddish-purple, itchy and/or numb for up to a year or more after birth.

What I wish I'd known: You may still wear some of your maternity clothes, and that's totally fine. Your body may have dropped serious pounds from breastfeeding or it may be holding onto those fat stores for hormone and milk production. Either way, it's all good.

Month 5:  R&R&R

That’s rest, relaxation and reflection. Although your baby may now be able to sleep for longer stretches without needing to eat, they're also likely teething and developing new skills such as rolling — which can mean less sleep for you.

  • Relaxation: Take time for yourself to do something chill, like getting a massage or going to see a movie, for your emotional well-being.

  • Rest: Make sure you continue to prioritize sleep as much as possible.

  • Reflection: Your sense of identity changes when you become a parent. It’s important to take time to reflect. Journaling, collaging or talking to a therapist can help process unconscious emotions and acknowledge some of the life changes you experience throughout parenting.

What I wish I'd known: Listen to your body, and try to be patient. The pregnancy hormone relaxin is still in your system for four to six months postpartum, which means you are more vulnerable to injury, especially in your joints. Don’t overdo it.

More:  The SheKnows Guide to Giving Birth

Month 6: Ch-ch-ch-changes

Just as you feel like you might finally be figuring things out, your baby starts going through a lot more changes.

  • Your baby will likely continue teething and start eating solid foods about this time, which means you’ll be spending more time feeding them — and cleaning up lots of messes.

  • If you don't feel 100 percent physically recovered yet, don't worry. You’re not alone; according to a study by Healthcare Women International, 25 percent of the women interviewed didn’t feel physically recovered from childbirth by six months postpartum.

Month 7: Help! (it’s still OK to ask for help)

Postpartum depression can still happen for up to 12 months after birth, and physical post-birth issues such as exhaustion, back pain, incontinence, sexual problems and perineal pain can all increase your risk of depression, so check in with yourself often — and get help if needed.

What I wish I'd known: If you have scarring around or in your vaginal area or sex is still painful or uncomfortable at this point, ask your health provider for a referral to a women’s health physical therapist.

Month 8: Let it go

Time management can be a challenge these days — and we hate to break it to you, but it might not become easy for years. You likely won’t be able to do everything you hope to do, and that’s completely normal. Prioritize the most important things, and let the other things go for now. Don’t feel guilty for having a messy house or not being a social butterfly; you're doing the important work of baby-raising.

Month 9: Mo’ movement, mo’ problems

Once your baby starts crawling, it takes a lot more attention and vigilance to keep them safe — including keeping tiny objects from entering their tiny mouths. And this means (you guessed it!) more time spent cleaning, organizing and chasing them across the floor.

What I wish I'd known: If you’re breastfeeding, your baby may start to self-wean at some point, which means less demand and therefore less milk supply. But then again, they may not self-wean at all — and you may need to decide when to wean, whether that's in a month or a year.

Month 10: Some more self-care

If you had melasma during pregnancy, it should be getting lighter now. But make sure to continue using sunscreen to protect your skin.

What I wish I'd known: Part of being a good mom is taking care of your own emotional and physical well-being, not just your baby’s. That means consistently scheduling time for yourself, even if it's only an hour. Don’t feel guilty if you need to take a break.

Month 11: Light at the end of the tunnel

With consistent nutrition and movement, you may well be starting to feel like your old self again — and ready for some more vigorous forms of exercise. Or maybe not, and that's fine too as long as you're feeling slowly better over time.

What I wish I'd known: If you got stretch marks during pregnancy, they'll likely be fading about now to slightly lighter than your skin tone — but they probably won’t totally disappear. But would you want them to? You earned those stripes.

Month 12: A new normal

What I wish I'd known: It takes at least a year, if not longer, to start feeling like yourself again. That doesn’t mean you’ll feel or look exactly the same as you did prepregnancy, but that’s OK. In fact, it's great.

Although you may have seen a TV character or celebrity bouncing back to their prepregnancy weight just weeks after giving birth, remember that most of us don’t have personal trainers, nutritionists or full-time nannies at our disposal. And even if you do or even if you lost any pregnancy weight in two months, that doesn’t mean that you have "recovered" from birth. The way the media portrays pregnant and postpartum women (um, sorry, Duchess of Cambridge) is often wildly unrealistic and can even be detrimental to women and their new babies.

Remember, it takes nine months for your body to make a baby; it will take at least that long for your body — let alone your brain — to recover.

Jennifer Lopez Knows How She Does Not Want to Be Proposed To

A note to former Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez: Jennifer Lopez isn't expecting a ring, but she already knows how she wants you to propose. On Wednesday, Lopez sat down with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show after the 2018 Catholic-themed Met Gala to discuss her second appearance at the high-profile event with Rodriguez in tow as well as her new single, the meaning behind the title and what she hopes for if she's ever going to get married again — starting with the proposal.

More: Jennifer Lopez & Alex Rodriguez Are Planning for the Future With a New Home Purchase

Lopez's newest single, "El Anillo," (roughly translated to "The Ring" in English) is rumored to be about Lopez's relationship with Rodriguez, but she said it's more than that too. “The song is definitely about that, it is, but I felt like it was kind of something that all women get to a point where they say, ‘OK, what’s up?'” she told Fallon. “Like, we’re good, everything’s great, what’s going on? Am I staying or am I [going]?”

Jennifer Lopez on The Tonight Show

Fallon held up a photo of the couple at this year's Met Gala and joked, "Alex, are you watching? Hello!" But Lopez isn't worried. "No pressure," she said.

She made similar comments Wednesday morning on Today. When cohost Savannah Guthrie asked if listeners should be reading into the song, Lopez laughing declared, "No!"

When asked if she'd like to be proposed in a similar way to rapper 2 Chainz's proposal to his longtime girlfriend at this year's Met Gala, Lopez replied, "I think I would want it to be a tiny bit more intimate." Sadly, she didn't offer up any suggestions on just how intimate she'd want her next proposal to be.

Lopez has been married three times. In April, she told Harper's Bazaar that she isn't ruling out a fourth trip down the aisle, but she's in no hurry: “I would love to grow old with somebody in a committed relationship. But I’m not forcing anything right now. It’s good, it’s healthy; we communicate well. We understand each other’s lives in a way that most other people couldn’t.”

We totally respect her for wanting to take her time. Hopefully, when the right time comes, Rodriguez pops the question in a style more suited to their relationship.

Chipotle Threw a Denver Couple a Surprise Baby Shower

Once upon a time, a Denver couple met at a Chipotle. They hit it off, enjoyed a burrito, maybe a bowl. They likely exchanged stories about their experiences working at Chipotle. Soon enough, their relationship took them from food babies to having three real babies. But baby No. 4? They didn't know it then, but this baby was about to bring their love story full circle.

Adrianna Alvarez would give birth to their baby boy in a Chipotle parking lot — and Chipotle would throw them a surprise baby shower.

We love this story so much. OK, here it goes...

"We were actually driving down this road to get to the hospital and we were getting really close to the street, and I told him we're not going to make it, I feel like the baby is coming," Alvarez told KDVR in Denver.

After the baby's father, Saul Flores, called 911, the dispatcher, Angie Schell, advised the couple to pull over — in front of a Chipotle in Centennial, Colorado.

"We pulled into the Chipotle parking lot and — boom — the baby started coming," Alvarez told Today.

Jaden Flores was born at 9:11 a.m. on April 10 — "a significant number to a 911 dispatcher; it was a nice coincidence," Schell tells Today — and he will now be forever known as "the little Chipotle burrito baby," Alvarez said.

Family Chipotle baby shower

Now, the couple wasn't even trying to get their hands on a burrito that day, but Chipotle did the most anyway. As a surprise on May 7, they threw the parents and their little burrito the baby shower of literally everyone's dreams. They even invited the extended Alvarez/Flores family and the 911 dispatchers and their families too!

The baby shower had it all: a cake and cupcakes with faux burritos of all sizes, the restaurant decked out in balloons and — the best part — a swaddle blanket that looked like a tortilla.

"When we heard that baby Jaden was born in our parking lot, and the amazing teamwork between the family and the dispatcher, we were excited to do something special to celebrate them all," Chipotle PR and communications manager Quinn Kelsey said in a release. "We hope they enjoyed their Chipotle-themed baby shower as much as we enjoyed throwing it for them."

Doesn't this story just warm your heart? (And make you a little hungry?)

Music definitely runs in the veins of Céline Dion's family. It has come to our attention the singer's eldest son, René-Charles Angélil, is making his own way into the music world. Performing under the rapper name "Big Tip," Angélil is choosing a different musical path from the one his mom chose. Eschewing power ballads, Angélil is putting the name "Big Tip" to good use as he attempts to break into the world of hip-hop.

Angélil is the oldest of Dion's three sons with the late René Angélil, her husband and manager, who died in 2016 at age 73 after a long battle with cancer. Dion told Entertainment Tonight in 2017 that her eldest son, who's only 17, is a good student who loves hockey and golf. She added, "He's into music, he loves it." When the outlet asked René-Charles if he'd follow in his mom's footsteps, he said, "I don't know about that. I don't know if I have the voice for it."

Apparently, times have changed, and Big Tip Angélil has clearly found his calling. He's released several tracks, including "Catwalks (Sidewalks Remix)" and "Loft Music Remix," which feature him rapping to songs by The Weeknd.

Angélil's lyrics are nothing like the heartfelt ballads his mom, Dion, is known for. He's also got some things to say to the commenters calling him "talentless" or worse. In "The Apple," he spits, "dropped two chart toppers and said it was cheesy," and encourages haters to get lost. He promoted the track in an Instagram post, writing, "Made this for the real ones."

As far as we know, this is the first time Angélil has released music of his own. The majority of his Instagram feed is filled with hockey, an enthusiasm he shares with his family, including Dion, who often gushes about her kids on her social media and has been photographed showing off custom hockey jerseys with her son.

But will Dion and Angélil ever duet? Only time will tell, but it would certainly be an interesting sound to behold.

Is DWTS' Val Chmerkovskiy Thinking About Marriage?

There may be another Dancing with the Stars wedding soon if Jenna Johnson has anything to say about it. The Dancing with the Stars pro recently joked to Entertainment Tonight that "time's a-ticking" for her boyfriend and fellow DWTS alum dancer Val Chmerkovskiy to propose — and he seems more than casually interested in putting a ring on it.

More: Here's What We Think Will Happen on DWTS This Season

We know Chmerkovskiy is more than casually thinking about a proposal because he's not staying quiet about it. He recently quote-tweeted a GIF of Johnson in her ballroom dress, writing, "I should def put a ring on it" with three emojis: eyeballs, heart eyes and a crown. It's just another example of his gushing about Johnson on social media since the couple rekindled their on-again, off-again romance last summer — and we love it.

Another great example of Chmerkovskiy's public pronouncements of adoration involves this super sweet video he edited and then posted on Instagram for her birthday on April 12.

The couple has spent a lot of time apart recently while Johnson has been filming a mini-season of DWTS and Chmerkovskiy has been on a national tour with his brother and sister-in-law, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd.

Johnson admitted that the time might not be right for an engagement when she spoke to Entertainment Tonight, but she also answered in the affirmative when Lauren Zima said that Chmerkovskiy is the guy for her. “We’ll see," Johnson said. "We both have very big things happening right now, so we’ll let that ride over… maybe we’ll go to Fiji!”

People revealed on Tuesday that Johnson and her dance partner, Adam Rippon, have plans to double date once his boyfriend flies out from his current home in Helsinki, Finland. Although Chmerkovskiy told ET that he sometimes gets jealous of Johnson's dance partners, she told People that he's been nothing but supportive — even helping Rippon perfect shapes and techniques she couldn't teach as well.

“He’s flown out for the past two shows, and I know he’s so proud of Adam and wants to see us go all the way,” Johnson said. “It’s so nice for a male contestant to see a male professional dance. It’s just so helpful to see certain shapes that maybe a girl can’t show as well.”

In December, Chmerkovskiy told People that he's "the best version of [himself]" when he's with Johnson and admitted that he had babies on the brain... but he wants to do things "old century style" and get married first. So, when's the engagement announcement coming? We're all holding our breath.

Now that we know Abby Sciuto's fate on NCIS, we can breathe just a little bit easier. Like her character Abby, the beloved forensic scientist on the CBS procedural for 15 seasons, Pauley Perrette is moving on peacefully. She'll reportedly be focusing on philanthropy, but we're still bummed we have to say goodbye regardless because she was such an integral part of NCIS. Perrette's castmates also seem really bummed to say goodbye, but they chose to take look on the bright side when they took to their social media accounts this week to post loving tributes to their longtime NCIS costar.

More: Pauley Perrette's Final Episode of NCIS Was an Emotional One

Searching Perrette's name on social media today brings up a deluge of cast tributes to her legacy, and the #GoodbyeAbby hashtag on Twitter is as heartbreaking as it is uplifting. Perrette warned fans to get the tissues ready ahead of her final episode on Tuesday, and honestly? She could have warned her fans to get the tissues ready before reading her retweets from the NCIS cast too.

Several of Perrette's costars, including Wilmer Valderrama, suggested getting the tissues ready before the episode too.

Actor Sasha Alexander, who played Special Agent Caitlin "Kate" Todd during the first two seasons of the show, shared a candid photo of herself and Perrette in formal wear on Twitter and shared a more heartfelt message on Instagram along with another candid photo.

We're sad to say goodbye to Perrette, but as Abby told her coworkers, "You have to go with your gut, and my gut is telling me I have to go." We'll miss seeing Perrette every week on our screens, but we're really excited to see what comes next.

Congratulations are in order for model-turned-entrepreneur Miranda Kerr and billionaire Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel, who welcomed their first child together, a boy, earlier this week. Baby Hart was born on Monday in Los Angeles and happily greeted by his older brother, Flynn, 7, whom Kerr had with ex-husband Orlando Bloom, People reports.

"Words cannot explain how happy we are to welcome our beautiful son into our family," the couple told People in a statement. "Miranda is doing well, and Flynn is excited to be a big brother. Thank you for the kind words and wishes during this very special time."

Kerr and Spiegel have been married for approximately one year. The couple tied the knot during an intimate ceremony in front of 50 of their closest family members and friends.

Though they haven't posted any photos of little Hart yet, this kid's basically guaranteed to be a social media pro. After all, his mom is a former Victoria's Secret model, and his dad founded one of the largest photo-sharing platforms in the world. I mean, just look at them. This kid's going to be a living, breathing version of the beautify filter.

Plus, he'll probably have a better skin care regimen by the time he turns 2 than most of us will have in our lifetimes thanks to his mama's brand, Kora Organics. While she's a bit biased, Kerr swears her line of natural products helped her avoid stretch marks when she was pregnant with Flynn.

"I also used Noni Glow Body Oil throughout my pregnancy, and I didn't get one stretch mark even though I had a 10-pound baby," she told W magazine last September. "If you use it religiously morning and night, it really helps prevent stretch marks. It also helps minimize the appearance of stretch marks you may already have."

Sadly, the body oil won't be able to give you Kerr's perfect dimples. You can't win 'em all, I suppose.

Even better, this quirky edible centerpiece is actually very easy to make. Just follow the steps below!

Ingredients & supplies:

  • 1 round watermelon
  • 3 celery stalks (soak in cold water in the refrigerator overnight to stiffen)
  • Blackberries (for the "charcoal")
  • Assorted fruits for kebabs
  • Small cucumber or zucchini
  • Wooden skewers
  • Toothpicks

Directions:

1. Cut holes in the watermelon for grill legs

2. Slice & hollow the watermelon

6. Insert the celery for the grill legs

Insert 3 celery stalks into the holes on the bottom of the watermelon. You may need to widen the holes slightly, but you want them to be tight. For added stability, you can also insert wooden skewers for the "grill legs" and hide them with the celery stalks.

Everything You Need to Know About Having Sex Wearing a Menstrual Cup

$

Period sex is a highly divisive topic. Some women swear by it (myself included), while the idea of getting it on during Shark Week dials up the ick-factor for others. I get it.

That said, Stephanie DiPisa of Lunette (a company that makes menstrual cups) tells SheKnows that you should never be ashamed of having your period or period sex. There are so many amazing stats on and benefits to having sex during menstruation. “Sex is messy anyway, so embrace your flow and have open talks with your partner about it," she explains.

More often than not, I’ve found my partners amenable to having sex during my period. They’ve fingered me, engaged in penetrative sex or performed oral sex on my clit, focusing efforts primarily on the outside. I’m happy, they’re happy and we don’t let this natural monthly occurrence get in the way too much.

If you’re squeamish about blood, there are ways to mitigate the mess. Wearing a menstrual cup is one option. Here’s everything you need to know about getting down and dirty while wearing a menstrual cup.

Period sex can be amazing

When you’re riding the crimson wave, your estrogen and testosterone levels increase, which lead to amped-up arousal. I’ve found that harnessing that energy into an orgasm (or five) provides way more period relief than popping a Midol.

Most menstrual cups aren’t designed for penetrative sex

Lunette is all about period sex. “This said, we do not recommend having period sex with your Lunette cup in because it could be very uncomfortable to you and to your partner due to where the cup sits below the cervix,” DiPisa says. “It's really not meant to be used with repeated vaginal penetration.”

A better option might be Flex — a menstrual disc that fits up into your vaginal fornix, making period sex possible.

More: Meet the Product Changing Period Sex Forever

But they do make for great mess-free oral sex

That said, if you really want to go for it with a cup in, DiPisa recommends having oral sex. “Not only does it feel amazing (all the blood flow in your vagina makes things extra sensitive and pleasurable), you and your partner don't have to be concerned over period leakage if that bothers you.”

Major design innovations are being made

Aside from Flex, there's another option. Intimina just launched the Ziggy Cup, a stem-free menstrual cup, which is basically the answer to penetrative period sex prayers. Its flat design sits under the cervix and feels much like a diaphragm (but doesn’t leak).

“Ziggy also has the added benefit of keeping things comfortable, because unlike tampons, it isn’t absorbent,” Amandine Pranlas-Descours, global brand director of Intimina tells SheKnows.  “During your period, you’re still producing much-needed moisture (aka discharge) in addition to your menstrual fluid, so everything stays lubricated and your flow is cleared out of the body easier.”

Practice makes perfect

It can take a bit of practice to figure out the perfect positioning for your cup, so Pranlas-Descours says the first few times you use a menstrual cup, you might want to put a towel down just in case.

“Every vagina is different just like every body is different, and it’s always good to get a little more familiar with your own body,” she says. “Most important is to find your cervix to figure out how far you need to insert the cup. The back rim of the cup needs to go below and past the cervix (basically, the end of the vagina) while the front rim tucks into place behind the pelvic bone, right near the G-spot. Really, what you’re doing is wedging the Ziggy Cup [or other menstrual cup] between the back wall of the vagina and the pelvic bone so it cups your cervix. It kind of clicks into place and stays there until you’re ready to remove [it].”

There are less messy alternatives to penetrative sex

And if blood on the sheets turns your stomach (no judgments!), DiPisa suggests shower sex or using sex toys that are made of washable, medical-grade silicone as alternatives. She loves Dame Products' Eva (as do I). And as much as I love assuming a women-on-top position during penis-in-vagina sex, I avoid it during my period strictly to avoid an unnecessary bloodbath. Also, I really like my bed linens — and hate doing laundry.

Menstrual cups don’t double as contraception

Menstrual cups may provide a barrier from blood, but they don’t block sperm. Despite common misconception, you can still get pregnant during your period. If you’re not on any kind of hormonal contraception, you should still use a condom or other viable form of birth control.

Minimal-commitment menstrual cups

If you’re still on the menstrual cup fence, consider a Ruby Cup. Since every vagina is different, Ruby Cup offers size exchanges or a full refund if you don’t feel the cup love. They also run a buy one, give one program, so for every cup they sell, they give one to a girl or woman in need of menstrual care products. Pretty cool, eh?

Are menstrual cups a good fit for everyone? Probably not, but a lot of people who menstruate love them. And while traditional menstrual cups aren't meant to be used during sex, there are options out there designed for that purpose. Regardless of your choice of period product or whether or not you opt for getting it on during that time of the month, make sure you're safe, comfortable and healthy, and do your thing!
