One William Shatner Death Rumor Is Rocking the Internet

Lifelong Star Trek fans and by extension the rest of the internet got a serious scare when, just a day before his 87th birthday, it was falsely reported that William Shatner had died recently. Someone on Twitter let him know about the seemingly unintentional hoax that was started when a company called Avocet Retail Sales sponsored an ad on Facebook messenger that claimed the Star Trek actor had died.

Shatner was understandably upset about the ad. Soon after being alerted, Shatner tweeted at Facebook asking how an ad featuring a hoax message about his death was able to be approved for the messenger app.

Rob Leathern, Facebook's director of product management, responded to Shatner's tweet, letting him know the ad had been removed. "Thank you. I’m not planning on dying so please continue to block those kinds of ads," Shatner replied.

But we're left wondering how this happened in the first place. While celebrity death hoaxes are nothing new on the internet, seeing the news of an actor's supposed death in an ad lends the hoax some credibility. This isn't even the first time in recent memory an app has come under fire for letting ads slip through the cracks that never should have been approved — just last week, Snapchat was criticized for approving an ad that asked users, "Would you rather slap Rihanna or punch Chris Brown?" The ad was criticized for allegedly making light of domestic violence, as users wondered if it was in reference to the time Brown assaulted Rihanna in 2009.

Despite being an octogenarian, Shatner has shown no signs of slowing down lately. He currently has three different projects in postproduction, according to IMDb, including his William Shatner War Chronicles, which he writes, produces and directs. He's also a regular appearing as himself on the ABC reality adventure series Better Late Than Never.

What Is Tantric Massage, & Can It Help Your Sex Life?

$

You know what massage is all about — another person works your muscles with just the right amount of pressure to relieve pain and reduce stress. Tantric massage is similar to an extent — however, unlike traditional massage, it's quite a different experience and involves healing, nudity, your private parts and often orgasms. Do we have your attention yet?

Tantric massage basics

Tantric massage is a hands-on practice that differs from traditional massage because it incorporates the tantric essence of shakti (also known as energy), says Liisa Maimon, teacher at Somananda Tantra School in Estonia. This form of massage works to remove blockages modern folks face, whether they are physical, mental, emotional, sexual or even psychosomatic.

More: What's Normal — & Not Normal — During a Massage?

While one might think tantric massage is all about mind-blowing orgasms, Maimon wants us first and foremost to realize that orgasms really aren't the ultimate goal of this type of massage. "While one of the beneficial effects of this sacred practice is increased pleasure and orgasmic potential, this should be a pleasant by-product, not the primary aim," she explains.

What is a tantric massage experience like?

For starters, you're usually not wearing clothes, says Ulrik Adinatha, one of the founders of the Tantra Temple, located in Denmark. First, you're massaged all over your body with warm oil. The massage and touch works to awaken your erotic energy and spread it throughout your whole body.

"You may experience many different reactions in your body, thoughts and emotions during the massage," she shares. "All reactions are equally welcome and you are free to ask questions or share what you feel along the way."

Not all tantric massages include the recipient's genitals, but it's definitely a thing and can have, shall we say, great results. "You will always be asked beforehand if you feel ready for this part of the massage," explains Adinatha. "The masseur, using his/her fingers lovingly and respectfully, will proceed to massage and touch of the inner part of your yoni [vulva/vagina] if you feel ready and comfortable." This, according to Adinatha, allows you to experience a loving, healing and respectful touch without having to give anything back, do something in return or to react in a certain manner.

What are its benefits?

According to Maimon, there are many benefits to be had from this practice. These can include:

  • Improvement of health and vitality
  • Treatment of common sexual dysfunctions of men and women
  • Alleviation of blocked (or stuck) emotions
  • Cultivation of contentment and joy
  • Ignition of a spiritual awakening and realization
  • Improvement of orgasmic and pleasure potential
  • Clearing the mind
  • Reduction of stress
  • Promotion of relaxation

Important notes

It's important to find a practitioner who abides by true tantric rules, as there are folks out there who kind of do their own thing and may not be what you're looking for. Maimon says there are three fundamental components you can and should expect from a skilled and well-trained therapist.

More5 Reasons You Need a Massage If You Exercise Regularly

An energetic force: Maimon says, "A skilled practitioner should have a good understanding about energy — how to sense it, how it works, how to control it, where he or she wants the energy to go and how to get it there."

A goal of healing: Orgasm should not be the primary goal, although it is a wonderful and freeing by-product, Maimon says. "First and foremost, tantra massage should be a remedial and restorative treatment for releasing blockages and uplifting the soul," she notes.

Conservation: This means your sexual energy is conserved and not wasted and used for a greater good.

While tantric massage may not be for everybody, it definitely has a following and has been found to be beneficial for many. As Adinatha notes, "A tantra massage is not therapy, but it is profoundly healing for all kinds of inner blockages and old traumas, giving new energy and new perspective."

Elizabeth Olsen Doesn't Even Recognize Herself in This Airbrushed Picture

Elizabeth Olsen is definitely a breakout star of the Avengers franchise. She's always lived a little bit in the shadow of her child star-turned-fashion mogul sisters, twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, but in more recent years, she's come into her own and proven she has serious acting chops.

But in the latest promotional materials for The Avengers: Infinity War, Olsen doesn't look quite like herself. She pointed that out on Instagram, calling out Empire magazine for airbrushing her on the cover until she was hardly recognizable.

"Does this look like me?" she wrote in the caption. Truthfully, no. Not at all. Olsen is the latest woman in Hollywood to fall victim to the entertainment industry's massive overuse of airbrushing and photo manipulation. At least this time, her image appears to have been edited to make her look more like a comic book character and not to make her slimmer or more polished.

Olsen is in good company, at least. Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon were recently the victims of a major photo manipulation fail in Vanity Fair. Witherspoon ended up looking like she had three legs, while Winfrey had three hands at one point.

My Son Doesn't Live With Me, but I'm Still Marching for His Life

$

Ever since Sandy Hook, I’ve heard so many parents share some version of this sentiment: When they drop off their kid at school every day, they wonder silently if they’ll ever see them again. They wonder if their child will survive the day. They pray their kid’s school will be spared the rage of the latest gun-toting mass murderer.

I wonder and pray these things too, but with a big difference: I don’t get to drop my kid off at school.

Five-and-a-half years ago, just a few weeks after emerging from my body, my son went home with the couple I’d chosen for him from a book of families at the adoption agency to which Planned Parenthood had referred me. I was — and am — lucky in a lot of ways: My son’s daddies want the same level of openness that I do, and so I’ve seen them regularly. I was lucky to have complete control over the adoption process — something that often isn't true for birth mothers. And I’m lucky to have a pretty close relationship with my son. He knows that I’m his birth mother, that he grew in my tummy, that I have a cat named Sophie (whom he’s obsessed with) and that we both love fart jokes.

But that luck could run out at any moment because so many politicians (most of them Republican) have decided National Rifle Association money is more important than children’s rights to live through their school days.

More:  Everything You Need to Know About the National School Walkout

When my son and I both lived in Queens, we saw each other an average of once a month. A few months ago, he and his adoptive parents moved to Los Angeles, which means I’m going to see him a lot less often now. And every time we say goodbye, somewhere inside me, there’s the knowledge that I’m not guaranteed to see him again.

Do you have any idea how much that fucks with me?

I don’t just have to worry about regular birth mother shit like fearing my son will grow up to hate me. I also have to worry someone is going to show up at his school and shoot him. And I can’t pretend there’s anything I can do about it because I’m not even in the same state as he is.

Less than a month after my kid went home with his adoptive family, Hurricane Sandy hit New York. I was safe and sound, slowly making my way through a Domino’s pizza and a bottle of wine in my apartment building that still had power. But I was also freaking out and crying because I kept imagining that a tree was going to fall on my child’s new home, even when his daddies emailed me to let me know they were all safe. The one thing that kept me from losing it completely was continuing to see the green dot next to my son's papa’s name on Gchat.

Guess what: The state of gun control (or lack thereof) in this country is like being under a constant hurricane warning. Except unlike a hurricane, we get no semblance of advanced notice of when exactly a mass shooting is going to happen; we all simply have to live our lives on endless alert.

More: Trump Isn't the Only One Ignoring Birth Mothers in the Adoption Process

And while no parent can protect their child perfectly, most at least have control of how they respond to the constant threat. Parents can ask their kid’s teacher(s) about shooter drills or assess the security of a given environment where their child might be. I don’t get to do any of that. Yes, I trust my son’s daddies implicitly, but that’s not the same thing as having any control over my son’s safety. There’s not a whole lot I can do.

But I can march.

On Saturday, March 24, I’ll be at the New York City March for Our Lives. I’m marching because it’s one small action I can take to stand up for my son’s right to stay alive. I’m marching because if today’s teenagers are this brilliant and aware, then I can’t wait to see the teenagers that my son and his peers turn into.

I never in a million years thought I’d say I’m excited for my son to be a teenager, but I’m absolutely stoked about it. But first, he needs to live that long.

I’m marching because no one should live in fear that a souped-up cyclone of toxic masculinity with a semiautomatic is going to take out their kid — whether they’re raising that kid or not.

I’m marching because my son is an amazing kid, and he deserves a chance to grow up into an amazing adult.

More: Kids & Guns: What Parents Need to Know

I’m marching because, really, what else can I do? I’m not even on the same coast as my son anymore. All I can do is fight for a better world for him to live in.

My son’s name is Leo. I want him to stay alive. And for Leo’s sake, I hope you’ll join me in marching.

How to Make Popcorn the Old-Fashioned Way

$

0

When I was growing up, my family ate a lot of popcorn. Microwave popcorn on movie nights. Bowl after bowl of air-popped, dry and light as packing peanuts. Kettle corn bought by the sack at summertime fairs. And best of all stove-top popcorn.

My grandma made us real old-fashioned popcorn on the stove every summer, and it was by far the best. It tasted like actual corn with just the right amount of butter and salt. This is the only popcorn I eat now. It takes a bit more effort than the others, but it’s easy enough to make late at night when you’re noshy in front of a movie.

How to make stove-top popcorn

Yields about 10 cups

Supplies:

  • 2 tablespoons oil with a high flash point, like canola or peanut
  • 1/3 cup popcorn kernels
  • Melted butter
  • Salt
  • A large, heavy-bottomed pot with a lid (this ensures even heat and prevents the corn from scorching)
How to make old fashion popcorn:

Step 1: Bring the heat

Pour the oil and kernels into the pot and cover. Set on the stove over medium heat. Wait. You’ll hear the popcorn begin to sizzle. Keep waiting. (Have a pair of oven mitts at the ready!) Eventually, you’ll hear the first pop.

How to make old fashion popcorn:

Step 2: Shake it

Once the first kernel pops, start shaking the pan, holding onto the lid so it doesn’t fly off.

Test Kitchen tip: For extra-crisp popcorn, keep the lid ajar or use a lid with a vent hole to allow some of the steam to escape.

The popping rate will accelerate. Keep on shakin’. After 2 to 3 minutes, the popping will slow down and eventually putter to an infrequent pop. Take the pan off the heat.

Test Kitchen tip: Keep the lid on the pot for another minute. Usually, a few kernels will pop after you stop shaking. When you remove the lid, open it away from you to avoid contact with the steam.

Step 3: Add mix-ins

Pour your melted butter over the popcorn and shake it. I like to do this right in the pan. I add salt last so it adheres more evenly.

Test Kitchen tip: For movie theater-style salt, use superfine popcorn salt or grind up regular salt with a mortar and pestle. The fine grains make your batch pleasantly salty, and you can use less.

Seriously, whatever did we do to deserve Jennifer Garner in our lives? I mean, do you understand how lucky we are to be alive at the same time as Garner, who regularly thrills us in films like her latest, Love, Simon, and also posts delightful Instagrams of her cooking, cavorting and living her generally sunny life? We're too lucky, folks. We don't know how good we've got it, TBH.

Speaking of posting delightful Instagrams, Garner added another one to the collection on Thursday afternoon when she posted the following video on her Instagram. The caption indicates this special video is dedicated to her longtime bestie, Reese Witherspoon, whose 42nd birthday was on Thursday. "Hey, @reesewitherspoon! I don't know why you're on my mind today....." Garner wrote to her friend.

It becomes clear quite quickly that this is no ordinary birthday video, but, well, that's because Garner is no ordinary bestie. Clad in a marching band outfit (immediately, I'm wondering if this is Garner's personal marching band uniform) and carrying a saxophone (again, one has to wonder if this is Garner's personal sax she has stored in her house until she needs it), Garner marches into frame and proceeds to play the jazziest version of "Happy Birthday" you've ever heard in your life. It's honestly hard to resist not breaking out into a smile from ear to ear watching this video, and that's all thanks to Garner.

As E! News notes in their report of this very momentous Instagram video for Witherspoon, Garner's a lifelong band geek, and this isn't the first time she has mentioned her status as a member of the band-geek crowd. In October 2017, Garner posted a video while she was at a Texas A&M football game where she looked to be in her element as she watched the university's marching band take to the field. Look at those smiling eyes! True #ForeverABandGeek status if ever I saw it, folks.

Danielle Fishel, Your Favorite Boy Meets World Star, Is Engaged

Congratulations are in order for Danielle Fishel, who most millennials will remember as the very cool, very free-spirited Topanga from Boy Meets World. She just got engaged to her boyfriend of just under a year, TBS' Drop the Mic executive producer Jensen Karp. Luckily for her lifelong fans, such as yours truly (seriously, I'm writing this article while dabbing at the corners of my eyes with a tissue; the beauty!), Fishel shared with the world via her Instagram account just how the proposal went down. Oh, and she attached the story to the cutest photo of herself and Karp, just looking super lovingly into one another's eyes and making you think that true love really does exist. These two!

It sounds like Fishel's engagement to Karp happened in a very Topanga-esque way. Essentially, she got a little Type A about how things were going in the run-up to Karp popping the question, and she possibly derailed his perfect plan in the process. But, all's well that ends well, right?

"I woke up today thinking it would be a normal day and it was anything but normal. I put on my Genghis Cohen t-shirt and went to see @jensenclan88 at work where I proceeded to screw up a very romantic marriage proposal by being too efficient (this is very on-brand for me). The future Mr. and Mrs. Karp are now engaged and no one is more excited than I am," she wrote.

Meanwhile, Karp shared the same photo of himself and his fiancée on his own Instagram and added his own side of the story. "We got engaged today. I don’t have anything witty or funny to say to accompany this picture. She is just the greatest person in the world and to imagine someone I went to high school with was always my person, is remarkable. You never know," he wrote. Karp's caption not only tells us a little bit more about the couple — that they've known each other since high school — but also is just so darn sweet.

And the fun didn't end at the engagement. As People magazine was quick to spot, Karp's Drop the Mic colleague Hailey Baldwin posted a photo to her Instagram story from the mini-engagement celebration the cast and crew had for Karp and Fishel. "We have a drop the mic engagement!" Baldwin wrote, adding lots of heart emojis to a photo of Karp and Fishel ostensibly making the announcement to everyone.

Fishel and Karp haven't announced their official anniversary date, but they did make things official in June 2017, People reports. Their coupling up came about a year after Fishel finalized her divorce in March 2016 from her first husband, Tim Belusko.

The Amazing Reason This Woman Is Running 100 Marathons

Winning Women

Running one marathon is a truly impressive feat. Running 100 marathons in 100 days, however, is something else entirely, and that's exactly what Mina Guli is in the process of doing. But she's not training for the Olympics. Guli is putting herself through this grueling running schedule for a very specific cause: water. Her current project of completing 100 marathons in 100 days is in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and sponsored by Colgate's Save Water initiative.

“The goal of this run is to demonstrate what it means to be 100 percent committed to something,” Guli tells SheKnows.

But she doesn't expect everyone to pick up and run a marathon — Guli says she's asking everyone to take a few small steps toward saving water and understanding the scarcity of the resource.

As part of the initiative, Colgate is encouraging people to turn the faucet off while they're brushing their teeth — a small action that could have a big impact. Despite the fact that 130 million Americans face severe water scarcity for at least one month every year, 42 percent of Americans admit to leaving the faucet running while brushing. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, this could waste up to 4 gallons of water each time you brush.

More: What the First African-American Female Astronaut Wants Us to Focus on Now

As the founder and ambassador for Thirst, Guli is a global leader in the conversation surrounding water consumption and conservation and was looking for a new way to make an impact. Currently, the aim of Thirst is to harness social media and technology to inform and inspire 14- to 24-year-olds to preserve water and educate them about the steps they can take to reduce their own water consumption.

Her upcoming 100 marathons in 100 days isn't Guli's first foray into ultra-distance running. In 2016, she ran 40 marathons across seven deserts on seven continents in seven weeks. Then in 2017, Guli ran 40 marathons in 40 days on six continents alongside six of the world’s great rivers in order to promote the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goal 6 — ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

MoreWomen Working to Cure Cancer Share Tips on Breaking Into a Male-Dominated Field

And while she clearly has stamina, Guli says she's not a natural runner and didn't start running until the age of 22. It was then that she had an accident that left her with a severe back injury and the drive to prove she wasn't going to let it get in the way of her goals.

"I wanted to show myself that I wasn’t going to be a cripple," she says. "The only person who could set limits on me is me."

Guli explains that running — especially when she has to work so hard at it — is a good parallel for solving global crises like water scarcity.

“There’s nothing easy," she adds. "There [are] many reasons why we shouldn’t choose to pick massive goals — at the end of the day, they’re worth it. With a bit of hard work and resilience, you can achieve anything.”

Truth or Fiction: Can Sephora Ban You From Making Excess Returns?

$

Sephora has long been the mecca for our hair, skin and makeup needs, with plenty of benefits to boot. Arguably the biggest perk is its flexible return policy, which allows you to return products — both new and used — within 60 days of purchase in addition to getting an exchange for anything (in that same time frame) without a receipt.

More: 20 Under-$20 Foundations for Coverage That Lasts

It’s truly a godsend for anyone who just doesn’t have time to read reviews or sample the product beforehand. And although it’s assumed that most of us are respectful of the return rules, time has taught the Sephora higher-ups that there are just as many shoppers taking advantage and doing the most, like returning twice as much as they purchased.

For that reason, a service called The Retail Equation is being used to vet the bad seeds so they can be banned from doing just that in the future. According to the TRE website, its specific purpose is to “identify the 1 percent of consumers whose behaviors mimic return fraud or abuse.”

More: Badass Beauty Bosses You Should Be Following on Instagram

A Wall Street Journal feature (by way of Racked) says TRE does this by tracking customer returns and behavior via driver’s license and calculating a score based on frequency of returns, cost of said return and a few other factors. Once the shopper reaches a certain number set by the retailer, a ban can be authorized.

Sephora return policy

Sephora return policy

In a statement to Racked, Sephora emphasized why it’s joined over 34,000 other stores (including Best Buy and Victoria’s Secret) to use the TRE system:

“Sephora is dedicated to providing all of our customers with an excellent shopping experience. We make every effort to accommodate returns, but a small fraction of customers take advantage of our policy, in many cases returning more than twice as much merchandise as they purchase. This limits product selection and unfairly impacts other clients. When we identify excessive return patterns, we notify those customers that we may limit future returns or exchanges if no proof of purchase is provided.”

It’s long been rumored that Sephora has always tracked customer behavior, but now they’ve got an official system backing up their practices. This is sure to ruffle a few feathers for frequent shoppers, so if you’re on the fence about whether to buy something or not, remind yourself of this not-so-secret return tracker too.

The Real-Life Kidnapping That Inspired the New Miniseries Trust

The story of John Paul Getty III's kidnapping in 1973 is all the rage in Hollywood right now.

After the success of the film All the Money in the World — which was a great film but got most of its publicity for the decision to replace Kevin Spacey after most of the filming had already been completed — FX is now gearing up to release its own take on the story. The 10-part FX miniseries, set to premiere on Sunday, stars Hilary Swank and Donald Sutherland and is being brought to life by Danny Boyle, the director of Slumdog Millionaire and 27 Hours.

More: J. Paul Getty Dead at 54

There's already been some serious controversy around the TV show, even before it airs. The Getty family has come forward and is reportedly threatening to sue because they are so upset over the portrayal of the events around the kidnapping, which they claim is inaccurate.

So, what really happened back in 1973? Here are the facts. How Trust interprets them, however, remains to be seen.

1. Yes, Getty was free-spirited

According to Time, Getty was living in Rome, running the Italian side of the family's oil business. He was reportedly hitting on a go-go dancer in the Piazza Navona when he went missing on July 10, 1973.

John Paul Getty III

2. He sent a letter to his mother the following day

The ransom letter was published by Time in 1973 and read, "Dear Mother: I have fallen into the hands of kidnapers. Don’t let me be killed! Make sure that the police do not interfere. You must absolutely not take this as a joke... Don’t give publicity to my kidnaping."

3. At first, no one believed Getty had actually been kidnapped

"There was an awful lot of kidnapping in Italy at the time. Little Paul was not an exception," Getty's friend and former chief executive Claus von Bülow said. "Paul was living more or less on the Spanish Steps together with other kids shooting up when it happened. When he disappeared they just assumed he was on a binge somewhere. Let’s just say he did not disappear out of his childhood bedroom."

The kidnappers were asking for $17 million.

4. John Paul Getty refused to pay the ransom

John Paul Getty, Paul's grandfather, had a reputation as a cheapskate, despite being the richest man in the world at the time.

John Paul Getty

When he found out about the ransom request, he reportedly responded, "I have 14 other grandchildren. If I pay one penny, I'll have 14 kidnapped grandchildren."

5. The kidnappers cut off his ear

After his grandfather repeatedly refused to pay the ransom, the kidnappers cut off Paul's ear and mailed it with a lock of hair to a newspaper in Rome.

John Paul eventually agreed to pay the kidnappers, but at a reduced rate of about $3 million, which his accountant said would be tax-deductible, according to the 1995 book by John Pearson. Paul's father paid the rest with a loan from John Paul, which was to be paid back at 4 percent interest.

6. Paul was held for five months

He was found at an abandoned gas station in December 1973.

Nine people were arrested in connection with the kidnapping, and most of them were reportedly connected to the Italian mafia. Only two were convicted, and the money was never recovered.

7. The kidnapping affected the rest of Paul's life

Craig Copetas, a journalist and Paul's friend, said of him, "He was a very nice, confused kid from an exceptionally dysfunctional family. Paul had emerged from the kidnapping in a bad way. Which was completely understandable, sadly. What was my first impression of Paul? That he wanted to be a superstar, basking in 15 minutes of Warholian fame and trying to figure out how to keep the lights turned on. I felt sorry for him."

He added, "Paul was more angry about them taking off his ear than he was psychologically traumatized by the kidnapping. His hair was long enough to cover [the wound], though."

In 1981, when he was 25, Paul had a massive stroke caused by an overdose. Afterward, he was paralyzed, nearly blind and had limited speech. He died in 2011 at age 54.

Here's What Angelina Jolie Gets on a Run to Whole Foods

If you’ve been feeling a lack of Angelina Jolie news lately, you’re in luck. According to Daily Mail, the actor was photographed with two of her six children, Zahara, 13 and Knox, 9, at Whole Foods in Los Angeles. Besides being a welcome glimpse of the star, it also gave us some insight into what she and her family eat.

Much like the rest of us, Jolie didn’t seem to go especially wild at Whole Foods and stuck with a lot of the basics. Oatmeal, veggies and some snacks. Maybe she’s heard the store referred to as “whole paycheck” too and didn’t want to end up dropping the well-earned tens of millions she’s probably raking in for Maleficent 2 on an assortment of organic marmalades (she made a hot $20 million for the first film.)

More: McDonald's Knows We Love Caramel So Much, They Debuted New Turtle Drinks

Unlike the rest of us, Jolie looked chic as heck, wearing all black with a loosely-fitted trench coat (is this the secret to essentially wearing a robe in public? Because if so, we are all about it) and pants, and some very cool Fendi sunglasses. She was also dressed in stiletto boots, which is not how we’d typically refer to our grocery-shopping slippers.

More: Starbucks Is Conjuring Up a Magical New Frappuccino

Here’s the list of everything the photographer was able to spot in Jolie’s cart:

  • 365 plain oatmeal
  • Nature’s Path maple-brown sugar oatmeal
  • Brussels sprouts
  • 365 applesauce

Does this seem like the cart of a busy mom who just needs some staples in the house for when her kids get hungry? Totally. But if we were her, next time, we’d live a little and splurge on some chips and guac.

Chris Evans & Jenny Slate's On-Again, Off-Again Relationship Is Off... Again

Updated March 23, 2018, 7 a.m. PT: No good thing lasts forever, and that includes Chris Evans and Jenny Slate. After renewing our hope in love and the world by getting back together last November, they apparently quietly broke up sometime recently but kept the split very private. A sneaky sentence in The New York Times' profile of Evans is what broke the news. It described Slate and Evans' romance as an "on-again, off-again relationship, beloved by the internet, recently ended."

And with that, hearts shatter everywhere. It's worth mentioning, though, that Evans wasn't directly quoted confirming the split in the piece — and neither he nor Slate have announced it personally, so there could still be hope. But it's The New York Times, so we're not holding our breath that this is fake news.

Alas, we were overjoyed when Evans and Slate got back together. They really seemed like they were meant to be. But another breakup seems to be confirmation that however much we love them as a couple, they may just be better apart.

Their busy schedules no doubt have contributed to how hard it is to maintain a relationship. Evans has three films in postproduction, including Avengers: Infinity War, which he will embark on a huge press tour for soon. He's also already filming the next Avengers movie. Slate has also recently wrapped a few movies, and she's lending her voice to The Secret Life of Pets 2, which is currently filming. She'll also star in the upcoming Muppet Babies reboot. With all that on their plates, who could possibly have time for dating, let alone a full-blown relationship? We just wish both Evans and Slate the best as they go their separate ways.

Updated Nov. 30, 2017, 2 p.m. PT: We all had our suspicions that Chris Evans and Jenny Slate were back together, but now, my friends — it is officially official. People broke the news, saying the two were spotted out apartment hunting earlier this week (Evans needs a new spot in Tribeca, New York). A source said they looked happy and "very much back together."

So, there you go. The great news you needed for the day. I'd say this is a good reason to head to happy hour early and celebrate. Who's with me? Slevans forever! Yes, I just came up with that nickname...

Updated Nov. 10, 2017, 10 a.m. PT: Well, we finally know for sure (basically). Without officially saying they're back together, Jenny Slate and Chris Evans have revealed that they're (almost definitely) a couple again.

How, you ask? Observe this tweet Slate sent out into the internet this morning.

Jenny Slate confirms she and Chris Evans are together

Jenny Slate confirms she and Chris Evans are together

"My boyfriend does many dreamy&generous things but number 1 in my mind right now is how he celebrates my new turtlenecks/let’s me show him my online shopping spoils&cheers me on," she wrote.

That's right — her boyfriend. Sure, Slate doesn't come right out and say this is about Evans, but who else would it be? Combined with some other clues we've gotten recently (see below), this seems like as close to official confirmation as we're going to get from this private (probably) couple.

Congrats, you two!

Updated Nov. 8, 2017, 10:30 a.m. PT: Chris Evans is for sure trying to throw us off the scent, but we won't be fooled that easily.

We've been trying as hard as we know how not to get our hopes up for a reunion between Evans and his perfect-for-him ex-girlfriend, Jenny Slate. But now, we might have to switch gears on this one. We might have to officially join Team They're Totally Back Together, because even our healthy dose of skepticism is nothing in the face of cold, hard evidence.

I present to you, exhibit A: a video of Evans' dog.

Chris Evans posts video of his dog singing

Chris Evans posts video of his dog singing

You should absolutely watch that video because it is hilarious and includes a dog singing along to music, something that is always great. But even more important, you should watch that video because there is a woman laughing and talking off camera, and we are 99.99999999999999999 percent sure it's Slate.

Take a listen for yourself. Her voice is pretty distinctive, and we think you'll agree that's probably definitely her. And while we already knew Slate and Evans have gone on some super-chill date-like outings lately, laughing over videos of your dog in the comfort of your home is definitely a couple thing to do. We're officially putting our money on these two crazy kids being back together, and all is right in the world.

Updated Oct. 24, 2017, 7 a.m. PT: For anyone who was iffy about the nature of Jenny Slate and Chris Evans' relationship right now, we present this adorable tweet exchange as evidence:

Chris Evans and Jenny Slate joke on twitter 2

This sweet exchange obviously has the chatter in the former couple's comments and replies to these tweets centered on whether they're back together. It isn't entirely outside the realm of possibility, but we're still not going to get our hopes up quite yet. They've been promising since day one to stay good friends, and they clearly still are. Whether they're more than that? Only they can let us know.

Original story:

We gotta stop letting Hollywood get our hopes up. Chris Evans and Jenny Slate, who broke up in February, have been hanging out again, which has of course prompted rumors that they're back together.

On Friday, they were spotted having dinner together in Atlanta by an onlooker who told Us Weekly they "seemed like a couple."

The insider continued, "[They were] laughing. He reached across and touched her arm a couple of times. They seemed like normal people on a date."

The following night, Evans and Slate joined Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, Susan Downey, for dinner at Better Half, where co-stars Evans and Downey posed with the chefs.

An onlooker said that night, Evans and Slate again "looked very much together."

More: Chris Evans Makes Sweet Statement About Jenny Slate, the World Cries

But are we really going to fall for this?

It would be so great if Evans and Slate did rekindle their romance. Nobody 'ships them harder than we do. They were amazing as a couple and we all want that back. However, they were very clear in their statements after their breakup that they still wanted to be friends.

"It was completely amicable and a mutual decision due to conflicting schedules," a source said right after their split. Both stars said nothing but good things about one another in the days that followed, and it was clear that even though their romantic relationship didn't work, they truly did intend to stay close friends.

If they really are getting back together, that's great news. But until we have more substantial evidence than a couple of dinners together, we're not going to get our hopes up.

Everything You Need to Know About March For Our Lives

In the five weeks since 17 students and faculty members were murdered at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the student survivors have wasted no time turning their heartbreak and anger into action.

Just four days after the tragedy, student and survivor Emma González gave an impassioned speech calling for reasonable gun legislation during a rally in Fort Lauderdale. "Every single person up here today, all these people should be home grieving," González said. "But instead, we are up here standing together because if all our government and president can do is send thoughts and prayers, then it's time for victims to be the change that we need to see."

And that's exactly what they've done in the days and weeks since Feb. 14. On the one-month anniversary of the shooting, student-lead school walkouts took place across America, Europe, Central America and Australia. And this weekend, activists and allies will make their voices heard once again at the March For Our Lives.

Here's everything you need to know about the March For Our Lives and how you can support these students in their fight against gun violence.

More: Everything You Need to Know About the National School Walkout

When is the March For Our Lives?

The March For Our Lives will take place on Saturday, March 24. The main event is in Washington, D.C., at 10 a.m., but there are currently 823 marches scheduled worldwide. To find the march closest to you, visit the March For Our Lives website.

Who is organizing & participating?

“March For Our Lives is created by, inspired by, and led by students across the country who will no longer risk their lives waiting for someone else to take action to stop the epidemic of mass school shootings that has become all too familiar," according to its website.

Participation is open to anyone who, like González, calls BS on the political talking point that guns aren't the problem. The march has received financial donations from the likes of George and Amal Clooney, Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg. Earlier this month, students from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland, posted on Facebook that they had “organized a network of host families that live along the DC metro system that can host out-of-town students for the march.”

More: What People Are Getting Wrong About the Parkland Shooter & Adoption

Why are people marching?

As the March For Our Lives organizers explain on the website, they support the right of law-abiding citizens to bear arms — but the epidemic of mass shootings is clear evidence that the gun control laws currently in place are grossly inadequate.

"Not one more. We cannot allow one more child to be shot at school. We cannot allow one more teacher to make a choice to jump in front of a firing assault rifle to save the lives of students," the organizers wrote in their online mission statement. "In the tragic wake of the seventeen lives brutally cut short in Florida, politicians are telling us that now is not the time to talk about guns. March For Our Lives believes the time is now."

What can I do to help?

In addition to participating in your local march, you can donate to March For Our Lives here. Donations can also be made to Everytown for Gun Safety.

Call, email and write to your elected officials to demand support for gun control reform. Sign the organizers’ petition, which calls on Congress to pass legislation to address gun violence, here. You can also raise awareness on social media by using the hashtags #March4OurLives, #Enough, #NotOneMore and #NeverAgain.

Do I need to register for the march?

Registration is encouraged but not required. You can sign up here.

What should I wear?

There is no dress code, but you can buy and wear March For Our Lives merchandise to support the cause. You can also wear the color orange, which is associated with gun-violence prevention.

What's next?

This is a marathon, not a sprint — keep up the pressure on your elected officials, and most important, use your vote to make a statement when midterm elections are held on Nov. 6.

7 Social Media Habits That Disqualified Real Candidates, According to Hiring Managers

By Elizabeth Mack

In 2017, 1.96 billion people worldwide were social media users; it is projected that this number will increase by 0.54 billion to a whopping 2.5 billion this year. Being that 81 percent of the U.S. uses social media, chances are, you are active on at least one account.

Whether you post regularly, once a week or every now and then on social media can not only affect your public persona but determine whether or not you get the job.

More: Your First Job After College Matters Less Than You Think

But what posts will keep you in the running? And which are potential red flags? Hiring managers share with us examples of what job candidates should stay away from when posting on social media. Take a look at what they had to say.

What are one or two real examples you’ve seen on candidates’ social media accounts that kept them from getting the job?

“Not using their real name and/or [using] offensive photos.” — Natasha Taylor, recruiting and hiring manager for Rhino Staging

“[Job candidate] applies for regional director. It seems like a good fit… [O]n social media, [he] posts a rant stating that people who watch football or participate [in it] are pieces of [expletive], callous foul… football causes brain damage, and those who watch it are complicit… His social opinions colored his effectiveness as regional director and could make people feel uncomfortable.” — Erica Holloway, hiring manager for Digital Media Academy

More: 13 Informational Interview Questions You Should Always Ask

“I don’t necessarily look at every candidate’s social media accounts. I usually do when I’m skeptical on whether or not to bring them in. For example, if a candidate seems underqualified, things I’ll look for include whether or not they’ve been involved with the community and learned skill sets that would apply. First example, I looked at a candidate’s Facebook page and saw that he was really into music, but some of his pictures were rather strange. He would post a lot of things that were hateful and cuss a lot or would brag about his drug usage and very derogatory topics. I automatically deemed him unfit for this work environment. Second example, I had a candidate whose Facebook was full of insulting picture towards women and a lot of inappropriate pictures. I didn’t think that would be a good fit either.” — Rebecca Del Cid, hiring manager for BrandRep

“We don’t typically look at candidate’s social media pages due to HR protocols. But if we did, I would definitely look at their pictures and how they present themselves and the language they use.” — Sarah Schroeder, hiring manager for American Marketing & Publishing LLC

"We can’t keep them from getting the job based on their social media accounts; that would be discriminatory. Potential red flags to look out for are excessive drinking, acting in a manner with friends, excessive drunk pictures and overly aggressive posts about politics and religion... [It shows there] could be a cultural problem [and the candidate] might not be able to work with other people.” — Melissa Richardson, hiring manager for Deacom Inc.

Roseanne Barr Is Peak Roseanne on Jimmy Kimmel Live & It's Perfection

We're just days away from the premiere of the Roseanne revival, and Roseanne Barr and her costars are hard at work promoting the show — not that they need it, because Barr's personality alone is enough to make people tune in. She and John Goodman recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to drum up viewers for the reboot, and even though they touched on some pretty controversial subjects, Barr was a delight.

More: The Roseanne Reboot Opening Credits Will Get You Pumped for the Premiere

Of course, her support for Donald Trump was one of the first things Kimmel brought up once he had Barr in the hot seat. Barr is peak Roseanne in her crocheted flower scarf and socks-and-Birkenstocks combo, and we are so here for it.

We're also here for how she handled herself in the face of Kimmel's tough questioning. It's no secret that Barr, as a Trump supporter, is in the minority in Hollywood. So, when Kimmel started asking her about her disdain for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, she knew she was in for a tough night.

"Weren’t you, like, a good friend of Hillary Clinton’s at one point?" Kimmel asked. Barr tried to get out of answering, but eventually admitted, "Yeah, I was."

When Kimmel asked her what changed her mind, she leaned over to Goodman and whispered, "Why is he asking me this question?"

Check out the video to see Kimmel ask Barr about her notorious Twitter rants, too — something we've all wondered about, just admit it. You'll also get to see Barr flip off Kimmel, because she is never anything but hilariously, unapologetically herself.

Survivor's Stephanie Johnson Reveals Insider Information on Bradley Kleihege

It was an emotional goodbye for Stephanie Johnson as her torch was snuffed out on Survivor: Ghost Island. It was even more emotional on a personal level for her to watch it play out with her family. During our one-on-one interview with Stephanie, she discussed her disappointment that Michael and Jenna had flipped against her. Stephanie also revealed which castaway she was planning to align with deeper into the game before unleashing a secret surprise about Bradley.

SheKnows: It seemed like you knew the votes were coming against you. Did you really know you were going to be voted off or was it a surprise?

Stephanie Johnson: I knew that it was gonna be me. Even if you have a 99 percent chance it's going to be you, in this game it's ingrained into your head that it's not over until it's over. When I saw my name on the first vote, you can see visibly I shrink down. That's when it hit me that it really was over. You can be prepared or know, but the shock of seeing your name and knowing that it's actually over, you can't prepare for that.

Stephanie Johnson voted off Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: How did you know?

SJ: I knew on Ghost Island when I didn't have an advantage and I had nothing to go back to. I had a shred of hope that going back, maybe Jenna, Michael and I could figure something out. I went back to camp after we lost the Immunity challenge and realized something did change the entire dynamic of the camp. In 24 hours, the game changes completely. 24 hours is a long time in a game that's only 39 days. I went back and pulled Jenna and Michael aside immediately. I could read it in their face. Jenna wouldn't look me in the eyes. Michael was all of a sudden aloof when he had been a massive player strategizing with me the whole time. I just knew they had either figured something else out or they had thrown me under the bus. I just had a gut feeling they had plotted something.

Malolo tribe sits in shelter together on Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: Both Michael and Jenna voted against you. As your friend and ally, did either of them warn you about how they planned to vote?

SJ: They didn't tell me they were gonna do that. I think it caught me a little off guard at the moment. I was sad that Jenna, especially, had flipped on me. She chose Michael to go with. I don't blame them. They came up with something, and they had to show their loyalty to those guys. It still stung. It hurts to be backstabbed by two people you've been with since day one, especially Jenna. She's my girl. I think the first day I was out of the game, I was confused and pissed. I was like, "I hate everybody! This sucks!" All of the normal grieving emotions. But I'm friends with everybody. It's a game. They did what was right for them. Absolutely, they made the right decision. If I would've been in their shoes, I would've done the same thing. I would've probably thrown one of them under the bus and tried to flip. They just had the advantage of having the time to do that, and I didn't. There's no hard feelings. I have no hard feelings toward anybody.

Stephanie Johnson with Jenna Bowman on Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: Just to clarify, though. Were Michael and Jenna aware the group was voting against you or were they taking a strategic guess?

SJ: Oh, yeah. They both voted correctly with everybody else. I absolutely believe that they knew.

SK: Why did the group target you specifically instead of somebody like Michael?

SJ: It was definitely between Michael and I. We were both the most vocal at Brendan's Tribal Council. We were trying to strategize in calling Kellyn out and calling Bradley out. We were trying to make something happen. I think that put both of us on their radar as two strategic players. I think it just came down to the fact that Michael had more time to build stronger bonds because he had that extra day. Had Michael been at Ghost Island, maybe I could've rallied something up. They also knew I was a triple threat in the game. I'm strong, strategic and social. They saw it and they knew that I was there to play. Jenna wasn't a threat. She wasn't trying to do anything crazy. I think it was a matter of who's the biggest threat.

Stephanie Johnson at Tribal Council on Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: You gave a very emotional speech just moments before you were voted out. What was it like watching it with your family?

SJ: That was really hard. It was a pretty heartbreaking episode, honestly. I was watching it with my kids and they didn't find out that I was going home until last night. They're so young. They're 6 and 8. They don't have a filter and would've gone and told people, so they didn't know until last night. It was real emotional watching it with them. They were emotional. I was emotional. There were a lot of tears. It was really gut-wrenching to watch with the music. It was a really sad Tribal. We were all hysterically bawling, all three of us.

SK: Bradley has been sticking out as another potential target. Tell us a bit more about Bradley.

SJ: Bradley definitely stuck out to all of us because he was such a whiny bitch when he came over [after the tribal swap.] He just complained for the entire first day we were over there. He didn't make a good impression with any of us. The thing about Bradley [laughs,] and he wouldn't really want you to know this, but he's kind of a softie. He does have a really good heart. It wasn't shown because they really just showed our rivalry. We had some really great conversations on the island. We had some very intimate and personal conversations. We related to each other on a lot of different levels, so there was a very genuine friendship I had with Bradley. On the flip side, it was so complex because anytime strategy would get brought up, I literally wanted to smack the kid. He drove me insane with his arrogance, and his whining and complaining. He wasn't willing to budge or work with me. He's not a malicious person, but he's very snarky. It really rubbed people the wrong way.

SK: Why wouldn't he want people to know he's a softie?

SJ: He's got this hard, exterior shell. But for people he chooses to open up to, he actually has a soul in there. Bradley has a soul, just so people know. He's a very good soul inside that snarky body of his [laughs.]

Stephanie Johnson on Survivor: Ghost IslandImage: CBS

SK: Tell us a bit more about Kellyn.

SJ: I love Kellyn. They didn't show our relationship too much besides our sunrise. Kellyn and I have very similar life paths. I see a lot of myself in Kellyn where I was at five years ago. She and I have shared a lot of the same life experiences. We shared very intimate, personal stories as well. We really connected on a spiritual level, so there was definitely the soul sister vibe we had going on, which is why she was crying when I was voted out. There was an emotional attachment there.

More: Morgan Ricke Reveals Which Survivor Castaway is Totally Clueless

SK: At this point, which castaway do you think is the most underrated?

SJ: Kellyn. She's not getting the credit she deserves. Her and Bradley are definitely a power couple. I called them out on that from day one. They are running the show, and have their three little minions. Out of that couple, I really think it's mostly Kellyn calling the shots. She's got it because nobody really likes Bradley. She's put herself in this amazing position, but I don't think she's getting the strategic credit she actually deserves. She's playing it good because she has a social game, which Bradley doesn't have.

Stephanie Johnson on Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: Who were the players you wanted to go all the way to the end with?

SJ: On day one, Jenna and I definitely bonded. We were very tight. I would've gone all the way to the end with her. Brendan and I were extremely tight being the old people [laughs.] We were both there to fight and play. They didn't show it, but we would watch the sunrise every morning and talk about our kids. I would probably say those two were the people I was closest to. Had Kellyn kept me around, I would have been extremely loyal if she would've given me the chance.

SK: How did you get on the show?

SJ: It's crazy. I was actually reached out to after an Ironman event. They reached out to me, which is really crazy because I had been trying and trying and trying for so many years. It was always meant to be, living my life and doing the things that I love to do. This dream came to me because I pushed so hard for it. I probably applied 12-15 times. I don't even know the number. I applied on VHS all the way back during Season 2 and went to open casting calls. Instead, they found me.

Plenty of parents have some understandable anxiety about how to handle their kids' teen years. After all, even the most well behaved among us occasionally told a few lies to our parents in high school. ("I swear I'm spending the night at my friend's house, Mom!" sounds quite familiar, am I right?)

But thanks to her own rebellious teen years, Drew Barrymore is totally ready to say, "Bring it on!" when her daughters become teenagers.

“When my kids, I don’t know, figure out some of the things that I’ve did in my childhood, I’m like, ‘Yeah, and that makes me all the more insightful to when you’re pulling crap on me,'" Barrymore told Geist.

Sean Penn Might Be Done With Acting

$

Whether you're a fan of Sean Penn or not, Hollywood cinema would have been very different without him. Think about it: No Mystic River. No Milk. No Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Even if those films would still have been made, but whoever Hollywood found to fill those roles would have made the final products very different.

And while Penn has given us some amazing movies, it may finally be time to say goodbye. In a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Penn hinted at the fact that his acting career may be officially behind him.

More: Charlize Theron & Sean Penn Have an Awkward Day at Cannes

During the interview, Penn told Tracy Smith that acting hasn't been very enjoyable for him lately, adding, "I, you know, I think that this had been true for some time."

He continued, "It can be great when you're working with good actors or good directors or good writing as an exercise. But do I have a belief that it has a lasting value? Maybe, I could make the argument intellectually. But I don't have a visceral — I'm not in love with that anymore."

More: Sean Penn & Minka Kelly Caught Looking Like More Than Friends

Is there something in the water in Hollywood? Penn is far from the first A-lister to decide recently that their acting days are over. Cameron Diaz has settled into married life with Benji Madden, Jennifer Lawrence is taking some time off after years of constant movie-making and Daniel Day-Lewis announced his retirement from the film industry last summer.

So, if he's not acting, what will Penn be up to in the future? It turns out he really enjoys writing — but not films, as you might expect.
