Woman Dies From Getting a Brazilian Butt Lift

Whether we like it or not, big butts are super-hyped-up right now. Those who weren’t blessed with one from birth can choose to spend thousands of dollars on a plastic surgery procedure, like a Brazilian butt lift, to look like the hourglass of your dreams. But with recent news regarding some complications, you might want to reconsider.

More: 12 Celebrities Who've Been Shamed for Getting Plastic Surgery

A year ago, one West Virginia woman named Heather Meadows died at just 29 years old from a faulty cosmetic surgery procedure at Encore Plastic Surgery in Hialeah, Florida.

Fast-forward to present day, and we’re in a similar gruesome situation. Last Thursday, March 16, 2017, another woman named Ranika Hall suffered from the consequences of a botched Brazilian butt lift. Hall came to the Miami-Dade area from Kansas City, Missouri, because of one surgery center’s claims to have some of the best plastic surgeons for the cheapest prices. Hall, 25, settled on getting her procedure done at Eres Plastic Surgery, formerly known as the very same Encore Plastic Surgery where Meadows died, with a name change that was certainly due to last year’s death.

More: Side Butt Plastic Surgery Is Not the Answer to Body "Perfection"

Hialeah police are still investigating Hall’s death, which is the fourth one to occur because of failed plastic surgery procedures since 2013, with two of those deaths occurring just last year. Each of those deaths is also connected to a range of clinics that are related closely to Miami physician Ismael Labrador, along with his ex-wife, Aimee De la Rosa. In addition to the deaths that occurred, there were also several other patients who had to be rushed to local hospitals after suffering serious injuries during their procedures.

After countless other investigations by Florida police and the Florida Department of Health of Encore Plastic Surgery, the services and staff provided by these sneaky cosmetic surgery centers have proven to be a serious danger to many men and women who are looking to get work done. These unqualified centers operate under the cover of distance, luring in out-of-towners with websites that focus on their cheap prices and supposedly amazing results.

So, while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting surgery — as long as you’re doing it for you! — research and facts are incredibly crucial. Always investigate medical centers and the doctors associated with them before you make a decision that could change your life forever.

The Surprising Reason Gwyneth Paltrow Won't Eat Octopus

$

Do you ever have existential food moments when you think a little harder about what you're actually eating and it starts to feel kind of wrong or gross? Like, "Yum, this pasta with Parmesan cheese is delicious! But grated Parmesan is actually made from cellulose, which comes from wood, so basically I'm eating... pasta sprinkled with sawdust right now?!"

Well, it looks like Gwyneth Paltrow has those moments too. She recently schooled some of her Goop employees on Slack when one of them suggested trying the barbecued octopus at a Los Angeles restaurant. "Octopus are too smart to be food," she told them. And lest you think that sounds crazy, hear her out. "They have more neurons in their brains than we do. I had to stop eating them because I was so freaked out by it."

More: Research suggests crows may be as smart as your children

Yeah, that is a little freaky. Octopuses are apparently so smart that they can navigate mazes, problem-solve and even remember the solutions to those problems for future use. They also play, which comparative psychologist Jennifer Mather told Scientific American is "something that intelligent animals do." Give two octopuses a ball and they'll play catch, just like humans do. They're smart enough to get bored and also have individual personalities according to Mather.

More: 2-year-old and her piglet BFF make the cutest photos ever

Paltrow also pointed out that octopuses "can escape from sea world and shit by unscrewing drains and going out to sea," something that can be confirmed by watching (spoiler alert) Finding Dory. While Paltrow did overstate the intelligence of the octopus in terms of brain strength (they have about 500 million neurons, while humans have 100 billion), they're still cunning, playful creatures.

It's easy to give Paltrow flak for some of her more bizarre ideas (um, vaginal steaming, anyone?), but with all the evidence in tow, it's hard to argue with her decision not to nosh on octopus.

There's a New Game-Changing Option for Treating Incontinence in Women

While we may be getting slightly more comfortable as a society discussing women’s health topics like periods and reproductive rights, there’s one demographic that continues to be overlooked: women over 50. For most women in that age group, getting their period is no longer an issue, but a significant portion experiences another problem — urinary incontinence. Despite affecting 35 million women in America, it’s not something most people want to talk about.

That is, with the exception of Dr. Toni Harris, a urogynecologist who has been focusing on treating incontinence in older women since the 1980s when she participated in one of the first fellowships for training in that specialty in the United States. Since then, Harris has devoted her career to caring for women with urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.

More: Understanding Urinary Incontinence in Women

In addition to working in the area for three decades, Harris — who originally trained as a biochemist — helped to develop Finess, the first FDA-approved over-the-counter product designed to stop leakage in the most common type of urinary incontinence. More on that in a minute, but first, let’s look at the different types of urinary incontinence and how they can be treated.

In a nutshell, urinary incontinence is an involuntary leakage of urine, and there are two main types: stress urinary incontinence and urge urinary incontinence. SUI refers to leaking urine when pressures are put on your bladder, like when you cough, lift something, jump or bend over. It is common during pregnancy and as you age. It happens when the urethra itself fails to remain closed when the bladder is under pressure from activities.

According to Harris, 1 in 4 women in the U.S. experience SUI, although the degree of the problem varies depending on the person.

“Your pelvic floor muscle group and related connective tissue hold your bladder and urethra up in place and prevent urine from leaking out when you cough or sneeze,” she told SheKnows. “Childbirth can and often does damage those pelvic floor muscles so they’re not as effective at protecting you from urine leakage with pressure on the bladder. Child bearing, weight gain, chronic cough, aging- and hormone-related changes can increase our risk of having SUI.”

More: I Have a Common Bladder Infection No One Is Talking About And It's Taking Over My Life

The second type — UUI — happens when the bladder involuntarily contracts and pushes the urine out through the urethra and is more common among older women. Many women have both types, which is called mixed incontinence.

For those with SUI, Harris breaks the options down into two categories: management, which had previously been restricted largely to absorbent products, like pads, and treatment, which includes everything from Kegel exercises and physical therapy to surgical procedures. While Kegel exercises are beneficial for women regardless of age or bladder condition, they require persistence and perseverance for sustained benefit and still don’t help everyone. More invasive treatment options, like surgeries involving pelvic mesh, can be highly successful, but carry risks and failure rates. Harris was on the lookout for a better option to help women cope with this incredibly common condition.

More: Overactive Bladder: Treatment for OAB

Starting in the 1990s, Harris encountered a new product now called Finess, a simple foam barrier that is applied over the opening to the urethra to stop urine before it leaks out during SUI. The product has an adhesive gel backing that allows you to stick it onto your skin right over the urethral opening, so when you cough or jump or laugh, urine cannot escape. The components of the product are used in many medical applications, like wound care, contraceptives and contact lenses and have been demonstrated to be safe.

According to Harris, who served as the principal investigator on a large multicenter study of Finess, less than 1 percent of the women in the study stopped using the product because they found it irritating, and most said that it fit comfortably. The product was very successful in reducing leakage episodes and improving quality of life for women with mild to moderate SUI.

“I know it’s safe, I know it’s effective and it’s a tremendous alternative to absorbent pads that leave you with wetness against your skin, fear of smelling like urine and risk of overflow onto your clothes,” Harris said. “Women have few options for managing this lousy problem of having pee run down your leg when you cough.”

As Finess is available direct to consumers through their website, you do not need to visit your doctor before trying the product.

“It’s a very common problem and a safe, effective, direct-to-consumer product that actually prevents leakage is a great step forward,” she added. “Getting this product through the system and into consumers’ hands has been a long road and I’m so happy to see Finess out there.”

5 Ways Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids

$

When my son was born, I was prepared for a host of challenges: exhaustion, sore nipples, not fitting into my pre-pregnancy jeans for a solid six months postpartum.

What I wasn’t ready for was how much I would start fighting with my husband. I mean, sure, we reveled in how lucky we were to have a beautiful boy, blar de blar, but mostly we bickered. And it was stupid bickering borne of extreme sleep deprivation, the kind where you’d start making what seemed like an important point and forget what you were saying halfway through and just start crying. As Jancee Dunn described it to me during our conversation: “The things you fight to the death about, if you were lucid, you’d think, oh my God, why are we doing this?”

I could have really used Jancee Dunn’s new book, How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids. Part memoir, part self-help book, How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids is a bracingly honest look at the disturbing levels of rage you can feel toward your beloved and a helpful guidebook as you find your way out of that morass.

I recommend you pick up this book if you currently hate your partner or you don’t yet hate your partner but anything could happen. While you’re waiting for your book to arrive, I gathered some tips from Dunn to get you through the next few days.

1. Know that it’s partly nature’s fault

When Dunn’s daughter was born, she couldn’t help but notice that when the baby woke up in the middle of the night, it was her getting up every time — not her husband. He just… wasn’t waking up. “I really felt my husband Tom had it in for me and he had this evil agenda where he’d think, ‘ha ha, I’m going to pretend I’m sleeping and she can pop up and get the baby when the baby’s crying,’” Dunn said. “I really thought he was faking snoring — he has this cartoonish snore.”

But then Dunn researched the matter and found out that, in fact, he probably wasn’t faking it. Blame evolution. Men, it turns out, aren’t as sensitive to the sound of a baby crying. “For men, the sound of a baby crying is below a car alarm or even a strong wind,” she said. “Had I known he wasn’t consciously oppressing me, it would have been a lot easier." Not only is our hearing more keen, we also see better in the dark. Thanks for nothing, nature.

2. Get ready to negotiate

One therapist Dunn and her husband went to told them that “when a baby comes, you barely have the same relationship.” Everything, therefore, is up for negotiation. And negotiation, while not being sexy, means you’re clearly communicating your wants and needs, and that’s key at this point in your partnership. “Now we negotiate everything,” Dunn told me, “and it is dry and lawyerly and no fun. You think things are going to happen organically and they just don’t.” Get ready for this to be difficult — as women, we’re not trained to stand up for what we need. “I’m a feminist, but this was surprisingly hard for me. I had to get behind claiming my own time.”

The difficulty is what makes this so important. “Resentment comes when there is ambiguity. I had it drilled into my head by so many experts: Clarity, clarity, clarity. Clarity is dull and transactional, but it really made things so much better.”

Next page: "It was one of the toughest lessons I learned"

{pageBreak}

3. Lower your standards

Let yourself off the hook, Dunn advises, as well as your partner. “The house doesn’t need to be perfect, your kid doesn’t need to look perfect when he or she goes to school. Tom would make our kid dinner and it would be peanut butter on toast. I had to bite my tongue and not say, 'you know, she really needs a vegetable.' I learned to just be grateful that he made her dinner. And you know what? Peanut butter toast is great for dinner. I’d eat that.”

Lowering your standards doesn’t just decrease the tension between you and your partner — it benefits your kid too. “I think being a more easygoing parent is a real gift that you give your child. You don’t want a kid who’s horrified that you’re going to flip out if they spill their milk. You don’t want to be that mom.”

4. Demand your own time

Dunn began this book under the impression that men need more alone time. “I don’t know where I got that idea. But when I investigated, I found there was really no basis for that. Humans need alone time, really.”

Moms can find alone time especially hard to ask for — but it’s especially important.

“One psychiatrist told me, ‘Tell yourself that when you return, you’ll be a better mother.’ And it really is true. And I don’t do contaminated time” — where women feel like they have to do something ‘useful’ with their private time, like running errands or folding laundry. “Do you ever just lounge around in bed and read or binge-watch something? It’s hard to do but it does make you a better mother. It was one of the toughest lessons I learned.”

More: 11 Men on Why They Love Marriage

5. Look for the good

In her research for the book, Dunn consulted with the “king and queen of couples research,” John and Julie Gottman. (What makes them king and queen? “After over four decades of studies,” Dunn writes, “the Gottmans can assess five minutes of a marital argument and predict with over 90 percent accuracy who will stay married and who will divorce within a few years.” Pretty impressive, Your Highnesses.) The Gottmans, she told me, advised her to look for the good. “When resentment becomes your primary setting, you’re just resentful all the time, you look for the bad, you find it, it’s self-reinforcing.”

Looking for the good sounds simple, but it’s surprisingly difficult. (Seeing a pattern here?) “When I was in resentment mode, so much of the good was blowing by me. I was focusing on what my husband was not doing to help me and I really wasn’t seeing what a good father he is in so many ways, how patient he is with our kid and how he’s always running around outside with her.”

And while you’re noticing the good, don’t be shy about sharing what you’ve noticed with your partner.

Most of all, Dunn advises, know that getting along with your partner (or just not hating them) is an ongoing process. “We’re still negotiating,” she said. “I still have to control my temper. He’s still going to leave his stuff around. But don’t have these heated fights anymore and our kid is much happier. Life is messy and I don’t have all the answers, but to have some tools in place really helps things. And I don’t dread being an empty nester because I have my ally back. “

19-Year-Old Gives Most of His $500,000 Lotto Win to His Very Own Parents

Ever wish your kids would one day stop asking for more money? Or simply repay you for your sacrifices with half a million dollars in cold, hard cash?

Well, some dreams do come true. Last week, a 19-year old from Michigan bought a winning scratch-off at a gas station worth $500,000. After realizing it wasn’t a fake, the kid made a jaw-dropping decision of what to do with the winnings.

No macho cars, no wild parties. He has chosen to keep $5,000 to invest for himself and hand the rest of the cash over to his parents. Yes, you read that correctly — his parents.

"My parents have done so much for my sister and me, helping them takes a big weight off of their shoulders and mine," he told the Michigan Lottery.

It can’t be… does this teenager mean to be saying, “Thank you, Mom and Dad, for feeding, bathing, nurturing, educating and funding me”?! This lucky teen may be onto something.

The financial pressure of having kids in its entirety is borderline colossal. According to CNN Money, the cost of raising a child is a terrifying $233,610 — and that’s before college expenses. Not to mention the monetary equivalent of the extreme and everlasting child-induced stress.

More: The True Cost of Sending Your Child to College

So let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. This kid has to bang out a couple more scratch offs before he really makes a statement. But tell us, lottery gods, what must these parents have done right to raise a kid like that? And how can we guarantee the luck of our own gas-station-lotto-ticket-buying kids?

Sneak Peek of Little Women: LA Star Bonding With Newborn Son

We admit it: We never get tired of video clips of mothers meeting their babies for the first time.

Lifetime released an exclusive sneak peek of its show Little Women: LA, featuring main cast member Jasmine Arteaga Sorge's very first moments snuggling her newborn son, Benjamin Michael.

Little Woman video

“After a few hours of surgery, my baby boy is finally here,” Sorge says in the video clip. (Benjamin joins big brother Mason.)

More: Jasmine Arteaga Sorge's pregnancy is risky

“I think we’re going to go with Benjamin,” she tells him. “You kind of look like a Benjamin to Mama.”

Sorge's pregnancy was a difficult one — with Sorge's health at stake — and now the new mom is pretty sure she knows why. Benjamin arrived on Dec. 1 at 21 inches long, weighing an impressive 8 pounds — a lot of real estate for Sorge's petite frame. “No wonder why I had such a rough pregnancy,” Sorge continues, “My baby is a big boy.”

No matter. Sorge and husband Chris are obviously overjoyed that Benjamin arrived safely. “I’m so overjoyed right now. This pregnancy was not easy but holding this little angel makes it all worth it," Sorge says.

In February, Sorge's words about her boys melted fans: “I don’t know what I’ve done in my life to deserve to be Mommy to my beautiful boys, but I will spend a lifetime dedicating everything to them."

That's sweet and all, but we kind of hope Sorge doesn't go all Mother Teresa on us and lose her reality TV edge. We still need our guilty television pleasure on Tuesday nights. Claws out, please.

Gal Gadot Announces the Arrival of Daughter Maya

It seems only right that Wonder Woman should have two Wonder Girls, you know?

Israeli actress and new superheroine Gal Gadot confirmed on Instagram that her second child — and second daughter — has arrived on the scene. Gadot introduced her newborn daughter with the caption: "And then we were four… She is here, Maya.”

The black and white photo is gorgeous — the kind all of us here completely forgot to have someone take for us as we were leaving the hospital in a haze of postpartum fog. (Damn it!)

Gadot also wrote, “I feel so complete blessed and thankful for all the Wonders in my life #family #newborn #grateful,” she added. (Those wonders clearly include the nurse or relative who remembered to capture the perfect photo of the family unit for social media.)

This isn't the first sweet shot Gadot's posted on social media. Gadot told her fans about her second pregnancy on Instagram back in November. “So excited to share this wonder with you… #mommyforthesecondtime.”

More: Gal Gadot sweetly announces her pregnancy on Instagram

And fans were loving it when Gadot posted an (almost-ready-to-pop) #NoFilterMoment on Instagram of herself on Tuesday. In it, Gadot is wearing a Wonder Woman T-shirt — and looking way more stunning than any pregnant, no-filtered woman has a right to look. Stop slaying so hard, Wonder Woman, for God's sake. The caption:

“Today I had a moment with myself when I was looking out the window at the beautiful clear blue sky and realized that I’m 9 months (!!!) pregnant and soon will have a new lovepup as an addition to our family,” Gadot wrote.

“Could not be more grateful to the universe,” she added. Um, yeah, we'd feel pretty grateful to the universe too if our pregnancies looked anything like Gadot's. Also, our new favorite word? Lovepup.

So, Uh, Does Anyone See the Resemblance Between Penelope Cruz & Donatella Versace?

Color me 10 shades of aghast at this casting news. Contrary to previous widespread rumors, Penélope Cruz will play Donatella Versace in Season 3 of American Crime Story, not Lady Gaga.

More: American Crime Story Digs Up Memories of the O.J. Simpson Trial

This casting news is a huge swerve from what was being reported mere months ago. Looking ahead to future seasons of the latest hot property in the Ryan Murphy/FX stable, Vogue speculated back in November 2016 that Lady Gaga was set to play Versace. The casting was considered a dream fit for a variety of reasons. Lady Gaga was already in the Murphy-verse of favorite actors, she was a close friend of Versace's and would ostensibly know how to play her on screen. Plus, there was already a striking resemblance between Lady Gaga and Versace. There was, however, the one minor snag: Lady Gaga was never in talks to play Versace, as Murphy would later confirm.

So, dream scenario nixed, who could have come in and saved the day? Cruz, of course. While the previously believed ideal that is Lady Gaga-as-Versace slowly sunk in, it became clear that there were plenty of good reasons Cruz was brought on board to play Versace. Actually, the more I think about it, this could totally work.

First off, Cruz could make a damn good version of late '90s Versace. I mean, look at this GIF of her doing the Zoolander Blue Steel look while she was being interviewed by Jimmy Fallon.

Next, there is no doubt some excitement in bringing Cruz to television. As Variety reported, this is Cruz's first extended television gig. Seeing Cruz tackle a new format — and on American television screens, no less — is a very exciting prospect.

Jenny Slate's Truth Bomb About Dating Chris Evans Is Too Real to Deal

So, after reading through this new Jenny Slate profile I'm a little verklempt. To be honest, after reading this story, you may be overcome too, because it's about to get real up in here, y'all.

More: 18 Things About Jenny Slate You Probably Never Knew

One of the many topics covered in Vulture's newest profile on Slate was her relationship with Chris Evans. The two actors, who met while filming the upcoming indie drama Gifted, were reported to have begun dating in May 2016 and split up quite recently. Since that breakup, Slate's discussion with Vulture about what it was like to date Evans is illuminating, heartbreaking and ridiculously honest.

Jenny Slate Chris Evans Quote

Jenny Slate Chris Evans Quote

At one point, while discussing what it was like to be one half of the couple, Slate opened up: "To be quite honest, I didn’t think I was his type. Eventually, when it was like, 'Oh, you have these feelings for me?', I was looking around like, 'Is this a prank?' I mean, I understand why I think I’m beautiful, but if you’ve had a certain lifestyle and I’m a very, very different type of person — I don’t want to be an experiment." That's when, at least for me, it feels so real and relatable.

More: Jenny Slate Dropped Knowledge About Pro-Choice in Her Critics' Choice Speech (VIDEO)

From the outside, I'll admit that seeing Slate and Evans as a couple was a bit odd. Perhaps because it felt like a rom-com come to life and these two people had been cast as opposites — All-American dreamboat meets quirky hipster comic — in the public eye. They've both earned a hefty amount of love and goodwill from fans, so as surprising as it was to see them together, it wasn't difficult to root for them.

More: Chris Evans Apparently Dated 15 Celebs Before Jenny Slate

However, reading Slate's own discussion of her fears about dating a guy who was perceived to be too handsome or on a different level from who Slate "should have" been dating at the time is a very real fear. For women especially, that feeling of utter disbelief that you could be wanted or desired by someone who you believe (although it's not necessarily true) is more attractive than you cuts so deep.

To be fair, it didn't appear that Slate was wallowing in her loss of Evans. Rather, it seems she was introspective or contemplative. Still, that truth bomb is just too real to deal.

How the Power Rangers' Pink Ranger Was and Still Is My Feminist Icon

$

I have a vivid memory of playing on the playground during recess as a 5-year-old in kindergarten. A group of kids, including myself, were playing pretend as the Power Rangers. I remember insisting that I be the Pink Power Ranger. It didn't matter how many boys wanted to be the Blue Ranger, or how many girls fought over the Yellow Ranger. I was the Pink Ranger.

I had it all, from the dolls to the Valentine's Day cards that said, "Valentine, I get a kick out of you," with a picture of The Pink Ranger mid-kick.

But what was it about Kimberly that really had me so obsessed?

The Pink Ranger
Image: Giphy

Well, to start, she was like me.

I was always considered too outspoken, too opinionated. I was a know-it-all. My first grade teacher told my parents, "Well, she tries to help the other children, but she just ends up being condescending." And that's a direct quote; just ask my mom.

The teacher said this, not because I was trying to be rude, but because I understood a concept my fellow classmates could not. And while I understood whatever math problem it was that I was trying to explain, I couldn't wrap my mind around the idea that I could understand a concept while someone else could hear the same information and feel completely lost.

Kimberly (aka the Pink Ranger) always had her opinions, held onto them and didn't let anyone push her around for them.

The Power Rangers
Image: Giphy

And then there was that whole, do-gooder attitude for the sake of the universe.

When I was all of about 6 or 7 years old, I remember asking one of the older girls in my neighborhood if she would drive me and a friend to Home Depot so we could make body armor and defend the neighborhood. Oh, yes, I was dead serious.

But if Kimberly could do it, so could I.

More: All the Times Women Made TV & Film History Dating Back to 1915

And then there were all the times I was alone in my backyard pretending I was the one to save the universe and feeling that sense of pride and accomplishment that I had once again defeated the bad guy, which was really just a piece of wood I would whack to death with some stick or another that I found laying around.

I couldn't have put my finger on it at the time, but looking back now, I understand that Kimberly empowered me. She helped me to know that it was OK that I was different. It was OK that I had opinions others may not agree with. It was OK that I was outspoken and sometimes "bossy."

I didn't really grow up with any concept of feminism or sexism. I don't think I even understood those words except in the context of a history book and the brief looks we would have at the suffrage movement.

But, thinking back on it, I could always relate to the idea.

And Kimberly was my inspiration to keep on doing me. She made me feel like, despite what other people said, I could be a superhero. I could save the day. I could make a difference.

She helped to shape me into the empowered woman I am today, the woman who has opinions and speaks her mind even when some people may not like it. (And, trust me, as a writer on a public forum, a lot of people often don't like it.) But Kimberly taught me from a young age that I am worth it. That we are all worth it, despite our backgrounds, our education, our gender, our sexuality or our ethnicity. We can all be superheroes in our own right. And that's a character worthy of the "superhero" title.

Of course, if I were to watch the same show I watched as a child, I would be rolling my eyes at the cheese doled out in healthy helpings. No doubt, the new Power Rangers movie coming out won't be the same because I am no longer a wide-eyed 5-year-old. But just because I've replaced my Pink Ranger mask with a pink pussy hat doesn't take away from the fact that I'm still that girl, striving to save the world because Kimberly showed me it was possible.

When Michael Weatherly announced he was leaving NCIS at the end of Season 13, fans freaked out appropriately. It was unclear if the popular CBS series would continue to be a success without him and his beloved character, Tony DiNozzo.

More: New NCIS Agents Are Exciting and All, But It's Time for McGee to Shine

Well, it certainly hasn't lost its touch and has somehow managed to be just as entertaining without Tony. Maybe that has something to do with Timothy McGee (Sean Murray). Thanks to Tony's exit, McGee has found himself at the front and center of most episodes and even the cases.

He's finally getting his shining star moment that he's deserved since the beginning of NCIS. If you think about it, McGee has become the new Tony of NCIS. Of course, there is no replacing the original DiNozzo and McGee is absolutely his own person. However, sometimes we can't help but look at McGee and think how much he reminds us of Tony.

Plus, both McGee and Murray have managed to become even more attractive over the years. If you've been watching Season 14, then this is something you've probably noticed. If not, then you really need to start paying attention more.

And with that, here are just a few ways McGee is the new Tony of NCIS. Yes, his dashing good looks that can make most anyone swoon is on the list.

1. He's now senior field agent

That's right, McGee finally got a much-deserved promotion in Season 14. Like Tony, you can now call him, "Very Special Agent Timothy McGee."

2. He takes pictures like this

Every now and again McGee impresses by channeling his badass side. For example, that time he was training for a marathon in Season 14, showed off his running skills and tackled a suspect? McGee's got it going on.

9. He's charming

This is pretty much a given. All he has to do is smile and we're melting.

10. He can make most people laugh

Tony and McGee

There's no doubt Tony provided the majority of the comic relief before he departed, but McGee is certainly no stranger to making us laugh every now and again.

11. There's more than meets the eye

McGee and Tony

Similar to Tony (and most characters), there is much more to McGee than his outward appearance, his love of computers and him being a so-called geek. None of that defines him or makes up 100 percent of who he is as an individual.

12. He's grown exponentially

Tony, McGee, Delilah

If you think back to the first episode McGee ever appeared in (Season 1, Episode 7), he was a completely different person than he is today. He has confidence as an agent and a man. Oh, and he became more comfortable women, so much so he will soon marry Delilah. He's obviously become a successful and talented part of NCIS. Gibbs' team wouldn't be the same without him.

Butterbeer Ice Cream Is Now a Real Thing, Because Sometimes Life Is Magical

My head is about to explode because I just heard a phrase that no Muggle is fit to understand completely: Yuengling's now makes butterbeer ice cream.

Why is this news so earth-shattering? Well, for one, if you don't live on the east coast, you may not be familiar with Yuengling's at all. I used to think Yuengling's was strictly a beer company (that's not available west of the Mississippi), but it turns out that a family member of the beer company independently owns and operates Yuengling's Ice Cream too.

Knowing their family history, it suddenly makes more sense that they might come out with a beer-flavored ice cream, and what beer is more magically delicious than Harry Potter-inspired butterbeer?

More: M&M's are proving that butterbeer is the new pumpkin spice

So, what exactly goes into a pint of butterbeer ice cream? Well — this probably won't be a shock — a lot of butter. It's a buttercream and butterscotch super-premium ice cream that is rippled with butterscotch swirl for good measure. Good Lord.

Other than the amazing-sounding flavor, David Yuengling decided to create butterbeer ice cream because, as he told The Huffington Post, "My kids were big Harry Potter fans and we wanted to do something unique." Man, if your parents own an ice cream company, you've really got it made!

Currently, Yuengling's Butterbeer is sold in grocery stores in pint-size containers, though they'll be selling quarts of it soon too. (Gulp.) And once you get your first taste of it, something tells me you'll definitely be glad you went with the full quart.

Find a store with Yuengling's Ice Cream near you here. As for those of us on the west coast, I think a road trip may be in order.

Jake Gyllenhaal Got Shifty When Questioned About T-Swifty

It's time to have a heart-to-heart, guys. We need to stop asking Jake Gyllenhaal about his past with Taylor Swift because it's clear as day that this topic is a big bugaboo for him.

More: "We Are Never..." May Be About Jake Gyllenhaal

The actor recently sat down with The Guardian to discuss Life, his new sci-fi action flick. During the interview, which began well enough, Gyllenhaal grew somewhat testy when the line of questioning veered away from Life and his acting background. When asked whether or not he thought he was playing with fire by dating her, knowing he could end up becoming fodder for a song should they break up, Gyllenhaal was very over it.

"I think when you’re in a relationship, you are constantly scrutinised, your friends are scrutinised, but..." and as Gyllenhaal trailed off, it was noted that he seemed to grow discontented with the direction the conversation was going. As a mood shift took hold, Gyllenhaal continued with, "I would love to not talk about my personal life. [...] I would love to talk about the movie." While the interview was steered back to topics Gyllenhaal found more palatable, this moment of testiness is truly indicative of how things ended between Gyllenhaal and Swift.

The pair dated briefly years ago, splitting in 2011. It is speculated that Swift's hit "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" is about her relationship with Gyllenhaal. Considering that moment in time is practically ancient history for Gyllenhaal and Swift, it's understandable that Gyllenhaal would be pissed about answering questions we have all created the answers for.

Galápagos Penguins Drive Their Parents Crazy Too

Galápagos penguins: They're just like us. Except for the part where they regurgitate the food into their offspring's mouth. Because that's just gross.

Anyway, it turns out that it's not only hard for human offspring to leave the nest! Just like young adults who rely on Mom and Dad for some extra food money or a home-cooked meal, Galápagos penguins can also return to their parents to beg for food. And apparently penguins find it just as hard to say no to their kids.

More: Tokyo has a penguin bar

According to a report published in The Wilson Journal of Ornithology, researchers studied the penguins in the Galápagos Islands and found that while it's rare for adult Galápagos penguins to come home for a feeding, it does happen. Maybe these birds try to make it on their own, but entry-level penguin jobs don't pay that much and they hate their crappy studio apartment and they haven't had a good meal in weeks so they're like, "Mom, dad, I just remembered that I miss you." But that's just my personal theory.

And you know those really loud, irritating noises your kid makes when they really want something? Turns out, penguins do that too.

Researchers watched the birds squeak and beg until their parents fed them. Of course, children are never satisfied. In this video, a fully-grown penguin continues squawking away because he wants more food from his parent. So what does the parent do? Dives into the water to escape.

That's exactly what I would do. Except I would dive into my bedroom and lock the door so I could get a little quiet to drink coffee and check my email. Being a parent is hard.

Lindsay Lohan Wants to Be the Next Ashton Kutcher — Sans Trucker Hat

This is absolutely not a drill: Lindsay Lohan is coming back to television.

More: Lindsay Lohan's Instagram Has Been Replaced by a Muslim Message

Lohan has released the trailer for The Anti-Social Network, a prank-style television show that could potentially also act as Lohan's return to the entertainment world. Lohan has some past experience with being the target on a prank show (like in 2003, when she was on Punk'd), but The Anti-Social Network will put her in the driver's seat. What's interesting is the show is quite unlike anything we've seen before, with social media as the channel through which all the pranks are played.

Lindsay Lohan Prank Show Promo

The main premise of the show is this: Lohan is in charge of someone's social media for 24 hours. During that time, she is doling out challenges designed specifically for the target. Even better, she is getting the information from someone close to the target to design those specific challenges. There are hidden cameras at various locations to catch all the hijinks. Most likely, at the end of the show, Lohan will jump out from behind a bush or phone booth and surprise the unsuspecting target. Entertainment Tonight also reported that during Lohan's recent visit to The View, she revealed that "[the contestants] win money and the proceeds go to charity."

Over the last few months, Lohan has been making a concerted effort to return to the limelight in a positive way. Following the very public fallout from her engagement to Egor Tarabasov, Lohan has taken a step back to ostensibly focus on her own well-being and career. This included wiping her social media accounts to start fresh, moving into more political and philanthropic work and now, it would appear, starting a new phase of her career as an actor and television show host.

An Approved List of Things That Can Go in the Vagina (You're Welcome)

$

We've all heard the crazy horror stories about women getting all kinds of odds and ends stuck in their vagina — yet, for some reason, there's a lot of us who still insist on the adventure of cramming stuff up there. Look, we get it. It falls under the "don't knock it until you try it" category, and sometimes we just like to make things a little more interesting in the bedroom.

But sometimes the experiment isn't even sexual: Three women stole watches from a hotel room in Las Vegas… and attempted to smuggle them out in their vaginas. They charmed their way into the hotel room of two guys and Winona-ed their watches, valued at $12,000 and $4,000 (say whaaa?!). Once they booked it out of the hotel room, security footage caught them stuffing the watches into their hoohahs (giving whole new meaning to the term "jewelry box").

This, of course, isn’t the first time women have been caught smuggling strange things in their vaginas. A woman in Tennessee was found with a loaded gun in her vagina. A woman in Oklahoma used hers as a carrying case for her pot pipe. Then, there was the woman in the UK who lost her cell phone: When authorities placed a call to it, a nearby woman’s vagina started ringing. Mhmm.

More: Finally — Lipstick for Your Labia That Glues You Shut During Your Period

Here's the thing: Yes, your vagina is a magical being, but it is not a tote bag. No, you don't have to worry about "misplaced" objects taking a stroll to other parts of your body, but that doesn't mean you should make stuffing yourself like a Thanksgiving turkey a thing. Depending on the object, it could mess with your vagina’s pH balance and irritate/injure your skin, which can then lead to various bacterial and yeast infections.

So, what can you put in your vagina? Welp, not to sound old fashioned, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it:

1. Fingers

Clean fingers, smooth nails. Pretend there's a "No Germs Allowed" clubhouse sign before anything enters.

2. Sex toys

Just make sure they're made of FDA-approved silicone. Word on the street is the jelly rubber ones can develop nicks where microbes may grow (even after you wash it, eek!), which may expose you to an infection the next time you use it.

3. A penis

Penises are fair game, y'all! Just make sure he's not wearing a flavored condom, since they're intended for oral sex only. Anything flavored or scented is your vagina's kryptonite, so steer clear.

4. Lube

As long as your lube isn't oil based. Oil-based lubes don't wash away easily, which can lead to a bacterial infection. Stick with unscented, water-based lubricants.

More: 6 Easy-to-Find Food and Beverage Options That Promote Amazing Vaginal Health

5. (Some) foods

Spreadable and pourable foods are strictly for external use only — really, all foods should be. The acidity in some foods can irritate your skin and screw with your pH balance, which is a total buzzkill. If he insists on playing Marco Polo, make sure you're using solid foods — and make sure he Polos!

One OB-GYN reported to Redbook that she's pulled countless cherries, grapes and even macadamia nuts from her patients' vaginas — and what's alarming (but equally hilarious) is that they had no idea the food was still in there.

Marcia Gay Harden Opens Up About Caring for a Loved One With Alzheimer's

Although Marcia Gay Harden’s mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease eight years ago, she started spotting changes before that.

“I noticed symptoms, but I don’t think I really understood what they were because it looks a lot like old age or distraction,” she told SheKnows.

The importance of identifying the early stages of AD is what drew Harden — best known for her roles in Pollock, Mystic River, Angels in America, The Newsroom, Law & Order SVU and currently, the medical drama Code Black — to the Notes to Remember campaign, which focuses on helping people recognize the early signs and symptoms of the disease.

More: Why Alzheimer's Is Actually a Young Person's Disease

“I started by excusing things [signs and symptoms of AD in her mother] and this campaign struck me because it’s really all about those first steps,” she noted. “Once someone is diagnosed, the experience is very specific with their doctor and how the family goes through it. But the first steps and awareness is what is universal and we all face that together.”

The key is opening your mind to being aware of the early signs, including repetitive forgetting and when forgetfulness gets in the way of everyday activities, Harden explained, noting that if you recognize any of these symptoms in yourself, “we gently, bravely encourage you to go see a doctor.”

It’s also important to keep in mind that there is not one single, tangible symptom of AD, but rather, noticing changes in patterns of behavior over time.

More: Brain Exercises Might Ward Off Alzheimer's and Anxiety

“For me it wasn’t one penny that dropped — it was several moments, an accumulation of moments where several pennies dropped until I said that this needs attention,” Harden said.

But given the degenerative nature of AD, why would someone want to identify it early? Is there a case to be made for “ignorance is bliss” is this situation?

According to Harden, no.

“I can say firsthand there’s a thousand reasons why you’d want to know,” she explained. “Being in charge of your future and giving your children the gift of you being in charge of your future is so important. This is not a singular disease — it affects the whole family."

Harden also emphasized the benefits and necessity of having a cohesive, involved family — which is another positive outcome of early diagnosis.

“When AD is detected early, you can be in charge of creating the cohesive family behavior you want,” she noted. “It’s already a field that is going to be emotionally fraught because it’s your parent or other loved one. It’s also degenerative, gradual cognitive decline. No one can picture what it looks like until it’s happening. Having a cohesive, supportive family unit and ongoing conversation is part of the caregiving.”

So what do you do if you notice the early signs or symptoms in a parent or loved one? While it’s a difficult conversation to initiate, it’s also a very important one, ensuring that you’re able to carry out their wishes.

More: Alzheimer's May Be Transmissible from One Person to Another

For tips on how to make this conversation a little easier, Harden suggested turning to one of the several AD advocacy organizations, or resources including Notes to Remember.

“Why this campaign is important to me is that it's all about the first step, which is awareness,” she said. “If a person is aware of the early signs and symptoms, that’s going to prompt other research and questions, along with a basic level of conversation. You’re giving yourself and your family the gift of time, power and knowledge.”

Harden also recommends writing things down — both for the person with AD and their loved ones. This goes beyond someone leaving themselves notes around the house to remember their keys or to turn off the lights, but keeping a record of the memories important to you to keep that aspect of the person’s life present.

“What the Alzheimer’s patient has is the moment they’re in,” Harden said. “They don’t have two minutes ago because they forgot. They don’t have five minutes in the future because they can’t imagine it. But they have the moment that they’re in — so the grace and wit and charm and compassion that we can bring to each moment is incredibly important.”

Listeria Strikes Again With an Edamame Recall in 33 States

It’s hard to know what's safe at the grocery store when it seems like every week there’s another major food recall. Last week, it was raw cheese, before that it was frozen vegetables and now it’s edamame we need to worry about, as the soybean product has been recalled in 33 states due to potential listeria concerns. First we find out our cheese may not be safe, now we have to worry about our favorite bento box appetizer? Come on!

More: Whole Foods Latest Place to Recall Cheese

Listeria was discovered during random testing of whole-pod edamame products, and now, as a safety precaution, all 8-ounce packages of Advanced Fresh Concepts edamame with sell-by dates of Jan. 3 to March 17 are being removed from shelves at major chains such as Wegmans, Kroger and Walmart (among other stores). If you were an unlucky buyer of the potentially bad product, you can return it for a full refund.

Here are the states that are reportedly most at risk of carrying the affected edamame:

  • Alabama
  • Arizona
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Washington, D.C.
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Iowa
  • Idaho
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Louisiana
  • Massachusetts
  • Maine
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • New Hampshire
  • New Mexico
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • Wyoming

As of now, no listeria-infected edamame illnesses have been reported, but when it comes to scary bacteria, it's always much smarter to safe than sorry. One silver lining to all these recent recalls: It's definitely restoring our faith in the food safety testing system — if not food production itself!

The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun Has a New Baby

OK, so maybe Glenn didn't get to stick around to meet his on-screen baby in The Walking Dead (sob!). Fortunately, Steven Yeun's having way better luck in real life. He and his wife, Joana Pak, are first-time parents to a new baby boy — born on St. Patrick's Day.

More: Steven Yeun's life post-Walking Dead keeps getting better

A source (we are always fascinated by these mysterious but often correct sources) snitched to Us Weekly back in December that the low-key couple was expecting. That news came on the heels of Yeun and Pak's Los Angeles wedding (attended by Daryl and Rick and... sorry, we mean former co-stars Norman Reedus, Andrew Lincoln and Melissa McBride).

More: Why Steven Yeun is the anti-Glenn

This kid will have no shortage of baby photos, we think, as Pak is a professional photographer. (Score! Unless you're the kind of person who hates when your mom drags out your baby photos! In which case, sorry, little guy!) Yeun also posted a ridiculously cute series of Instagram photos last month featuring him clowning with the (then) very pregnant Pak.
