Tonight's Dinner: Barbecue crunch dogs recipe

Hot dogs are the perfect answer for a weekend cookout. But instead of grilling them up and smothering them in ketchup and mustard, why not try cooking them in barbecue sauce?

When I think of barbecue sauce, chicken and ribs come to mind. After all, that's what one typically sees at restaurants that specialize in barbecue and summer parties. Something else I tend to see at summer parties are hot dogs. I usually cook them up on the grill because they're easy and a guaranteed hit with the kiddies. So, thanks to a Better Homes and Gardens suggestion, I decided to combine my two favorite summer party recipes and serve up some hot dogs that would thrill the adults just as much as the kids.

Barbecue crunch dogs

Serves 8

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 1 bag coleslaw mix
  • 8 hot dog buns
  • 1 bag potato chips

Directions:

  1. Whisk together the ketchup, vinegar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder and garlic powder until well combined. Transfer ketchup mixture to a large saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Add the hot dogs and cook for about five minutes or until heated through.
  3. While the hot dogs cook, toast the buns and place on serving plates when ready.
  4. Sprinkle coleslaw mix in each bun. Place the hot dog on top of the slaw, top with potato chips and serve.

Are you getting sick of Kate Middleton yet? Nope, I didn't think so! Besides the fact that she's a royal and totally gorgeous, Kate is simply a fashion icon in the making, and I love watching her every move. This week, the Duchess of Cambridge pulled her gorgeous brown hair back in a braided chignon at the UK's Creative Industries Reception in London.

Kate's pretty well-known for her simple yet stunning blowouts, and up until a few months ago, Mrs. Prince William was rarely caught with her hair up. Recently, though, she's been playing with a few new styles, and I couldn't be more pleased. I love how Kate chose a braided detail -- such a hot trend this summer! -- to give her normal chignon an extra pump of pizzazz, don't you?

We're loving Kate's cute hairstyle! How about you? Sound off in the comments! And check out other celebrity hairstyles!

Why more families are choosing not to circumcise

Back when we were babies, circumcision was almost universal in the United States. In recent years, however, the data shows that leaving a baby boy intact is becoming more common. Read on to learn why more and more parents are choosing to not circumcise their infant sons.

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

Neonatal circumcision, the removal of some or all of the foreskin of the penis, is falling out of favor in the United States. Once touted by many as a necessary medical procedure, it is no longer recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics as a routine surgery on newborn infants, and decried by many as a barbaric practice that should no longer take place.

The tide swings

Once common enough that it was even covered by state medical programs such as Medicaid, routine infant circumcision is now a decision more parents aren’t making. Research has shown that routine circumcision does not have enough medical benefits for it to be recommended.

"There are no significant medical benefits that make circumcision worth doing"

While circumcision rates are hard to quantify due to several factors, such as cultural ceremonies that take place outside of the hospital, a researcher from the CDC estimated that in 2009, as few as thirty-two percent of newborn boys went under the knife, compared to fifty-six percent in 2006.

"Do not circumcise your baby because you think there are some medical benefits," writes renowned pediatrician, Dr. William Sears. "A recent review by the American Academy of Pediatrics looked at all the data from the past decades to see if there truly were any medical benefits. Their conclusion — no. There are no significant medical benefits that make circumcision worth doing."

No reason to do it

And still others couldn't find a single reason to go ahead and have it done. "After listening to an adult friend that had never been circumcised, I was more or less convinced," Ty from Louisiana told us. "He said he never had problems, and cleaning was not really an issue."

Not like Dad

Even in families where Dad is circumcised, parents are making a completely separate decision for their sons. "Originally, my plan was to do it, no questions asked," explained Angela from Canada. "Daddy had it done, therefore, so should the son. I basically changed my mind when I realized that our continent is one of the few countries in the world that actually do this."

Even in the face of religious views

Many parents have strong religious reasons for circumcision, but even many of those of a faith, such as Judaism, are choosing to abstain from the big cut. "I had a huge fight with our family over leaving Joshua intact ," shared Jenna from New Jersey. "I fought hard to preserve him and I won. We had a no-cutting bris and all. I am so thankful that my husband supported me in the end, and my perfect little boy didn't have to endure that crap."

Rebecca, mother of four, agreed. "I figure if God told Abraham to circumcise himself when he was like 100-years-old, my son can do the same if he feels like it," she explained.

Born perfect

Many moms we spoke with felt that their child was born with a foreskin for a reason. "Both of my sons were born perfect and left intact," shared Katie, mother of two. "I think that we are adapted as animals and that foreskin serves a purpose."

Katie is not alone in thinking that the foreskin is supposed to be there. "We now understand that the prepuce is richly innervated, erogenous tissue which enhances sexual pleasure," says Christopher L. Guest MD, FRCPC. "In addition, the prepuce provides a unique linear gliding mechanism during sexual intercourse. As physicians, we have no right to amputate this functional tissue from powerless infants without medical urgency."

Rashida Jones talks bad breakups and weird dates

Co-writer and star of the romantic comedy Celeste and Jesse Forever, Rashida Jones talks about her inspiration for the film: Her own dating life.

Rashida Jones, Celeste and Jesse Forever
Rashida Jones
often plays hilarious characters. In her first screenplay turned film, Celeste and Jesse Forever, Jones continues this tradition, starring as a woman who falls apart after her attempt to remain friends with her soon-to-be ex-husband goes awry.

Her character Celeste goes through a number of laughable experiences in the film, from being dry-humped on a first date to passing out on a blow-up raft at a friend’s wedding shower.

Though these scenarios may seem far-fetched, when we sat down with Jones recently to discuss the film, we found out that many of these moments came directly from her personal dating past.

WATCH THE INTERVIEW

“I’ve had some pretty low points,” Rashida laughed. “I’ve never done anything as outwardly embarrassing [as Celeste]. But, I think when you’re miserable and heartbroken it feels like everybody can see it; like you’re just a big, raw, embarrassing mess.”

Andy Samberg still silly despite serious role in Celeste and Jesse >>

One specific moment that rings true to real life is when Celeste winds up being dry-humped by a previously charming photojournalist in his hotel room at L.A.’s famed Chateau Marmont. Jones tells us that story was taken straight from her dating history.

“Yep, lucky me,” she told SheKnows. “I definitely had my bad date run. There are a lot of things that happened to me.”

But through it all, Jones has learned exactly how to deal with a breakup.

“You just have to be sad,” said Jones. “You have to live through it. You shouldn’t distract yourself or go do things to ‘keep busy’ because it will hit you even harder. I think you got to just sit in it, as much as it sucks.”

Rashida created the screenplay for Celeste and Jesse Forever with her writing partner, Will McCormack, who she actually dated briefly in the 90’s. The two maintain, however, that the movie is not about their personal relationship history.

Suffering from a stutter so severe that it can keep him from completing a sentence, 13-year-old Jake Zeldin struggled to stay positive during his formative younger years.

Leaving the Hard Knocks Behind

During a summer away from home three years ago, however, Jake found an unlikely solution for rising above his speech impediment.

Before he spent that metamorphic summer away from home, Jake endured endless taunting at the hands of cruel classmates and, sadly, even teachers. Today, the Toronto, Ontario, native effortlessly spits rap lyrics onstage to the delight of screaming fans. He goes by "Lil JaXe" — the "X" in his musical moniker a nod to something the teen never knew he had... the X factor. So how did he, after some of the world's most noted speech therapists failed to do so, cure his crippling stutter? Actually, he didn't. In an as-of-yet unexplained occurrence, Jake's stutter vanishes entirely when he raps, only to return when he drops the mic. We caught up with the lyrical cutie to talk about the power of being positive, mingling with music icons and, of course, girls.

SheKnows: You shocked your mother, Robyn, when you announced you wanted to become a rapper. How did you discover your talent?

Lil JaXe: When I was 10, I went away for the summer to overnight camp and, while I was there, the camp had a rap battle. I was always interested in music and thought I would try it out. The words just started flowing out of my mouth, and I could not believe what was going on.

How to find the right summer camp for your kids >>

"I have proven that you can really do anything you want to do if you try hard enough. "

SheKnows: Your stutter completely disappears when you rap, but you still deal with it daily. Has rapping given you more confidence?

Lil JaXe: Yes! Rapping has really improved my confidence and self-esteem. I have proven that you can really do anything you want to do if you try hard enough. It was my goal to be heard and discovered, and I kept trying until it happened.

SheKnows: Bullies used to be a big problem for you. Do the haters bother you less now?

Lil JaXe: Sometimes I still have problems with bullies, but most people respect my passion and my dreams... and it doesn't hurt that I have some really famous and important people in my corner!

SheKnows: What kind of things do you like to rap about most?

Lil JaXe: I like to rap about my story and being inspirational to others. I like to keep it positive and happy and, for the most part, clean. I really like to put a message in most of my songs — to live your dream, or to be strong, or to live life to the fullest.

SheKnows: You've managed to meet a ton of music superstars such as Busta Rhymes, Katy Perry and even your idol, Drake. How does it feel to be in such cool company?

Lil JaXe: I have wanted to meet famous people and show them what I can do since I was 10. I have met some great, fascinating people who are so kind, and who support me and really believe in me. It is quite cool to be able to meet and hang out with them in person.

SheKnows: We're total "Thomas Edison" fans... and we're not alone. The video has drawn hundreds of thousands of clicks on YouTube. What was it like working with R&B singer Karl Wolf?

Lil JaXe: I met Karl in September 2011, when I waited 2-½ hours in the rain to meet him and rap for him — it was my dream to get noticed by him. In December, he made my dream come true when he signed me to a management deal. I had this song that was called "New People" at the time, and Karl listened to the verses and had the vision to call it "Thomas Edison." It was super cool working with him to record the song and the video.

SheKnows: You're going to be featured on a children's compilation called Pacha's Pajamas, which includes contributions from rap legends Mos Def and Talib Kweli. Do you feel like you've arrived?

Lil JaXe: I don't totally feel like I've made it yet. I am so honored to be featured with those great rappers who I respect and look up to so much, but I feel I still have a long way to go. I am hoping for a record label contract, and then maybe I will feel a bit more accomplished.

SheKnows: You've gone from being picked on at school to becoming one of rap's rising stars. What would you say to other kids going through a tough time who feel like giving up?

"...My message is not to let one small thing or disability get in your way. Follow your dream no matter what happens and no matter who turns you down — just keep your head up high. "

Lil JaXe: I often get emails from kids and young adults who are going through similar issues, and my message is not to let one small thing or disability get in your way. Follow your dream no matter what happens and no matter who turns you down — just keep your head up high. The lows are low, but when the highs come they are really amazing, and it is totally worth persevering the bad to get there.

SheKnows: When you aren't rapping, how do you spend your spare time?

Lil JaXe: I love to draw, paint and create clay sculptures. I hang with my friends, and I love going to the movies. Most of all, I love to freestyle with people.

SheKnows: Anything coming up we should know about?

Lil JaXe: I just released my new song on YouTube called "Young Fresh and Foolish" ten days ago — and it already has over 52,000 views! I hope to release my new song "Made It" by the end of the summer.

Tameka Foster: Usher's grief over son's death "bogus"

For two weeks, Usher and ex-wife Tameka Foster appeared to put their differences aside to support the R&B king's stepson, Kile Glover, as he fought for his young life in a Georgia hospital. Less than a week after the boy's funeral, it's a different story. Foster now claims the star is faking grief over his stepson's death to get sympathy from fans … and the court.

Usher Raymond and the woman formerly known as Tameka Foster-Raymond, have been embroiled in a custody battle over their two children. Most recently, Usher asked the court to delay the next custody hearing in light of the obvious -- his 11-year-old stepson Kile Glover's tragic death following an accident involving a personal watercraft. But the request is not sitting well with Tameka.

Tameka, by way of documents obtained by TMZ, claims his request -- that the proceedings would cause "unnecessary stress and strain" for the family -- is "bogus."

She has asked that the hearing, set for Aug. 13, go on as planned, claiming that Usher's request to postpone it is nothing more than a "transparent sham" to get sympathy from the court.

What's more, Tameka also claims that after their split in 2009, Usher didn't care about Kile, the son from her marriage to Atlanta clothier Ryan Glover.

" visited Kile in the hospital only once," according to Tameka, during his 15 days on life support.

Tameka also claims she begged her famous ex to tweet, "Please pray for Kile," but he refused -- instead posting a photo of his own breakfast featuring the caption: "Breakfast of Champions."

Tameka has said resolving this heated custody battle is the only way for her to move on.

When cheating causes a breakup: Hollywood edition

Cheating & love gone wrong

In the wake of the recent Kristen Stewart cheating scandal, in which the Twilight star allegedly stepped out on off and on-screen leading man Robert Pattinson, we wanted to dig a little deeper into what it means for relationships when people stray.

To learn more, we turned to relationship expert to the stars Dr. Gilda Carle. She shares her insight into the “Robsten” drama and offers some tips for couples experiencing a similar situation.

Why Kristen cheated

Ask any Twilight-obsessed fan how anyone could step out on their beloved Robert Pattinson and they’ll likely call for his girlfriend and co-star Kristen Stewart’s blood for her indiscretion toward their beloved celeb crush. So why did she do it? There are plenty of reasons why people cheat. “Kristen knew she was unsure of being committed,” notes Dr. Gilda. Her inability to be honest about her feelings caused her to act out, she suggests.

“Rather than play the girlfriend role as she would in a movie, she should have seen a counselor, and also, she should have told Rob the truth about her feelings,” Dr. Gilda says. “Because she did not, he may never trust her again.”

How she handled things

While cheating is never a wise choice, that aside, no matter who does the cheating , honesty is the best policy in the wake of infidelity. “It was the ‘right’ thing to do for her to openly apologize to Rob and Liberty,” says Dr. Gilda. “She had to do so in public because her cheating occurred in public.”

What’s next for the Twilight couple?

“Right now, this couple must be separate. Kristen needs a lot of time to grow up -- and that must be done on her own,” says Dr. Gilda. “Whether Rob will ever forgive her is questionable. Had she been honest with him about her feelings, although he would not have liked to hear about her uncertainty, at least he would have always known he could trust her,” she explains. “Now, he may never trust her again.”

Trust really is the most important element here since it’s what helps maintain any bond. “Once trust is broken, it's tough to get back, and it usually takes a long time to rebuild,” Dr. Gilda warns.

Final analysis

Cheating causes breakups because not only is trust breached, but the hurt caused by infidelity isn’t easily forgotten. But in this case, it’s not just Kristen and Rob who were affected. “Kristen hurt a lot of people because of her immaturity,” says Dr. Gilda, but notes that she's only 22. There’s no excuse for what she did, and she likely shouldn’t have been living with Rob until she was sure, but immaturity did play a role in her decision.

But what about the person she cheated with, who happens to be quite a bit older and married? "What's his excuse?" asks Dr. Gilda. "Liberty Ross, his wife, even played Kristen's mother in this movie. So he was cheating in his own backyard,” she says. “How disgusting is it for an allegedly mature director to take advantage of an impressionable and immature subordinate? Who's the grownup here?”

Only time will tell what happens with the Twilight pair, but when it comes to cheating, the key is to notice issues in your relationship before they drive you to make a mistake you regret -- one that hurts the people around you.

He wants to do what with your what...?

SheKnows brings you this exclusive featurette from the very cheeky new comedy about saying what you’ve been dying to say about your partner’s habits in the bedroom.

Interviews with Streep and Jones show just how much fun they had getting into the minds of a couple who is perfect in every way expect for when it comes to intimacy. Wait, isn’t that the only thing couples should be good at? It’s not always true. Seeing eye-to-eye, or lip-to-lip, in the bedroom is just as important as agreeing on work, careers, where to live and raising a family. This movie hopes to make a point of that.

How to spice up your sex life: Part 1 >>

The 'he said,' 'she said' on sex

“This guy hates the idea of therapy,” Jones says of his character. Streep, like any good femme in the room, had more to say of the married couple she and her co-star portray on screen.

“Women are more interested in spelunking around inside of a relationship and finding out what makes it work and trying to make it better,” she says of the film’s topic, which seems to have tickled her pink.

When Streep’s character has to buy a book titled, Sex Tips for Straight Women by a Gay Man, things really get interesting. Check out this behind-the-scenes interview with Streep and Jones for more juicy tidbits.

Hope Springs is directed by David Frankel who has also directed The Big Year, Marley & Me, The Devil Wears Prada and Sex in the City. The film leaps into theaters Aug. 8.

Do you cringe at the thought of spending each and every workday glued to a desk? If so, you're not alone. Many people would prefer to have a job that allows them to be active and move from one place to another.

Occupational expert reveals best jobs not behind a desk

In his new book 50 Best Jobs for Your Personality, Third Edition, occupational expert Laurence Shatkin, Ph.D., provides a list of the best jobs not behind a desk. He says, "It's worth noting that the average activity rating for the jobs on this list is only 67 on a scale of 0 to 100. Several jobs on the list are rated in the high 50s. We live in an information-based economy, with much of the growth in Dilbert-type settings, so any list of the best jobs includes many options that are not highly active. Nevertheless, a list such as the following can help you avoid the most sedentary choices."

Here are 15 of the best jobs not behind a desk featured in 50 Best Jobs for Your Personality, plus information Shatkin provides about each job .

4 Classic, hilarious Mr. Bean videos

Rowan Atkinson delighted us at the Olympics Opening Ceremonies with his one-note rendition of "Chariots of Fire." It inspired us to round up a few of his other clips -- and we can't stop laughing! Simple, clean humor at its finest.

funny Mr. Bean videos

We can't get enough of Rowan Atkinson's -- as Mr. Bean -- rousing "Chariots of Fire" performance at the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremonies. Sure, we love some raunchy humor, but it's nice to get some simple, clean laughs once in a while.

Even Russia's stoic Vladamir Putin thought his sketch was funny -- he called it "hilarious," which made us laugh thinking of the Russian President saying "hilarious" with a straight face.

But, we digress. Mr. Bean's Olympics performance sent us down the YouTube rabbit hole looking for video after video of Atkinson's hilarity. Check out the four funniest videos we found.

Wardrobe malfunction

Janet Jackson didn't event the "wardrobe malfunction" -- Mr. Bean did. Sadly, it happened while he was waiting to meet the Queen. He managed to get his fly up in time, but the adrenaline caused him to do something pretty hilarious.

Leaky goldfish

Poor Mr. Bean: He just wanted to go to the fair. Instead, he gets stuck with a lost baby and chased by a huge dog. Things were looking up when he won a goldfish during a carnival game, until...

Fine dining

Mr. Bean wasn't expecting this when he ordered the steak tartar at a nice restaurant. Looks... appetizing, sir.

Paint, paint everywhere

Mr. Bean decided to paint his apartment. However, he manages to get paint pretty much everywhere except on the walls. We can relate to this, sadly.

What you've been missing on YouTube: Week of Aug. 3, 2012

For this week’s recap we were sent “Droidfriend,” which inspired a tribute to our best-loved YouTube parody clips. So much parody, so little time. Here’s just a sampling of our favorites to give your Friday a little levity.

Warning: Some of these videos contain adult language and themes.

Droidfriend

Oh, wow. Someone’s got a lot of time on his or her hands. This video proves one thing -- Justin Timberlake looks hot even as a Droid. This video must have set these pranksters back a bit, because it’s glaringly apparent they didn’t budget much for the role of Princess Leia. To all you Trekkies and techies, this one’s for you…

Like Jesus

Probably the funniest thing about this parody of “Like a G6” is that it makes way more sense than the song it’s making fun of. We still can’t get a straight answer on what “Like a G6” means. But turning water into wine? That we understand. Give this cheeky monkey a listen.

Samsung Galaxy Tab

Can we get a f*** yeah? This parody classic pokes fun at that guy we’ve all met -- the douche who thinks he’s a total pimp because he’s got some sort of tablet that a 8-month-old baby could learn how to do cool stuff with. Whenever you’re in a crappy mood, crank this sucker up. It’s guaranteed to turn your day around.

WTF Blanket

This video, viewed by 20 million , may seem trite and obvious to some. But somebody was bound to say this s***, video it up, and put it on YouTube. They make some pretty valid points about a large swath of fabric that epitomizes laziness. Twenty million viewers can’t be wrong.

Jenna Jameson backs Romney: He's rich, I'm rich, duh!

Porn queen Jenna Jameson announced her pick for president from, fittingly, a San Francisco strip club Thursday night. Just like Jameson's approach to her career, she rationalizes her choice for pres is all about the money!

Jenna Jameson

Porn star-turned-political-commentator Jenna Jameson announced Thursday from San Francisco's Gold Club that Mitt Romney is her "gold standard" for president.

"I'm very looking forward to a Republican being back in office," Jameson managed to spit out to CBS while, apparently, "sipping champagne in a VIP room" at the gent's club.

Her reasoning: "When you're rich, you want a Republican in office."

Well, Jenna's talents through the years have netted her $30 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.com. Not only does this make her the richest porn star, but she's among the most "prolific," having been featured in 160 movies and countless TV and publicity appearances.

Jenna may have a fortune, but we're all a little less fortunate, knowing that voters like her exist -- who put so much "thought" into their picks for pres.

Someone should really tell Jenna that a few weeks ago Romney's camp was vowing to "crack down" on the porn industry -- her source of such vast wealth.

Hypocrisy aside, this "announcement" is well worth the coverage -- if only for the ensuing comments! Hil.a.ri.ous!

Twitter has some good ones, but Thomas from Austin gets the gold for this gem on Politico: "Romney finally gets a supporter who changes position as often as he does."

Ryan Lochte's one-night stands? Dear mom got it twisted

Ryan Lochte wants the ladies of the world to know that despite what his mom said, he's no wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am kind of player. One-night stands? Never!

Ryan Lochte one-night stands

Ryan Lochte's one-night stand kind of man reputation is up for debate. Though the Olympic swimmer's mom told the press a quick dinner and shag is all her son has time for as a professional athlete, he's speaking out to insist otherwise. Don't get scared away yet, ladies!

Ike Lochte, Ryan Lochte's mom, told reporters during an NBC Today show interview, "He goes out on one-night stands," sending viewers into a tizzy. "He’s not able to give fully to a relationship because he’s always on the go."

Apparently, what she meant to say however, is her 28-year-old swimming phenom of a son goes out on dates.

Wanna bed Ryan Lochte? Wear white jeans >>

"They took it out of context. My mom is really new to all of this and the media," Ryan Lochte told Us Weekly while attempting to clear up his reputation. "She meant since the last four years I just wanted to focus on swimming, and I didn't really have time for a relationship."

"When I'm in a relationship, I want to give that person my entire heart and I wasn't able to ever do that because of swimming. I'm always on the go. So what she meant is that I do go out on dates," Ryan Lochte continued. "But it's not that thing that everyone is talking about, because that's not me. I've never done that and never have been like that, so I don't want people to think that about me."

So is the "ladies man" label not a good fit then? "Well, I love ladies!" he confirmed with a laughing reply.

Jeah! Hottie Olympian Ryan Lochte is a mama's boy >>

Luckily for ladies dreaming of some Lochte love, the 11-time Olympic gold medalist now has a bit more time to spare. Ryan Lochte's 2012 Summer Games experience came to a close on Thursday.

"I'm done and I'm relieved! I'm excited that the Games are over," the swimming hunk said. "The last 4 years have been really hard. I'm happy with how well I did. I'm happy with my overall performance."

Are you buying Ryan Lochte's claims he's not a one-night stand kind of man?

Teaching your child a language when you don’t speak it

We know that teaching kids a second language is a tremendous help in life, but how do you go about teaching, say, French when you only speak English?

Yes, you can!

Do you think it's impossible to teach your child a second language that you don't speak? It's not. Caryn Antonini is a mom, language expert and founder of the Early Lingo language learning tool for kids. Her insight just may give you the confidence you need to tackle the challenge of teaching a second language...and your kids will thank you down the road.

Why bother?

"In order to compete in the global marketplace, our children must learn foreign languages"

There's no question that it's easier to stick to one language, but parents are recognizing the advantage of teaching kids a second, or even a third, language. "In order to compete in the global marketplace, our children must learn foreign languages," says Antonini. "There are so many benefits to being bi- and multi-lingual including better scores on standardized tests, heightened problem solving skills and the ability to think outside of the box." Need more reasons? Just think of the tremendous advantage your kids will have when they eventually enter the workforce. Can you say: "hired?"

Find out how to arm your child with a second language >>

Don't feel overwhelmed

Just the thought of teaching your child a language you don't speak can be intimidating, but moms today definitely have a wide range of resources readily available. "There are so many resources these days to help your child learn," says Antonini. "DVDs, television shows, books and magazines can all be very helpful. I would also encourage moms to seek out native speakers to speak to your child exclusively in the given language." Another great strategy is to learn the language right alongside of your children.

Read more about introducing a second language to your child >>

Make it fun

Antonini provides the following tips to help parents make learning a second language fun:

  • Find cultural activities for your children so that they can practice new skills.
  • Visit restaurants featuring cuisine from the culture you are studying and practice ordering in your new language.
  • Watch movies and television programs in another language.
  • Find an entertaining, kid-friendly language learning program, such as Early Lingo, that encourages kids to learn in a repetitive format.

There's no better time

By this time, you're probably recognizing the value of an additional language . Maybe you're feeling pretty confident about teaching your kids Spanish, French or Mandarin but you're thinking about waiting a few years to launch your grand plans. If so, think again. Now is the best time to get started. "Every baby is born with the ability to speak any of the 6,000+ languages of the world," says Antonini. "In the first six months of life, babies babble using 70 different tones, however they start discarding sounds and words they don't hear in their everyday environment." Take advantage of your child's remarkable ability to absorb language skills while she's young. It's never too early, but it's also never too late if your child is beyond the infant years.

Whatever method you choose, be encouraged! You really can give your child the gift of another language. The path to a bi- or multi-lingualism may just be a family adventure.

Colin’s pre-film workout routine

Colin Farrell has always been easy to look at, but the actor is even sexier in his role as an undercover agent gone rouge in Total Recall. The Irish hunk tells us what he did to shape up for the part.

Once known as a Hollywood "bad boy," Colin Farrell seems to have changed his ways, now opting to hit the gym instead of the club.

"Working out is something that I’ve learned to enjoy in the past couple of years," Farrell told SheKnows at the press day for his new flick, Total Recall. "I love it."

And his hard work is certainly paying off. Farrell looked as fit as ever playing secret agent stud "Hauser" in the remake of the 1990 classic, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"I had about four months [to train]. I went to the gym every day and I hit the bag," he told us. "I got really fast jogging. I was never a long distance runner but I got the mile down to a good time. I ate really well, slept loads, and kept sugar out of my diet."

And it seems Farrell is sticking to that regimen. The 36-year-old actor is repeatedly spotted taking classes at Hollywood’s hot spinning studio, Soul Cycle, and was drinking a "roots" juice during our interview from L.A.’s popular Pressed Juicery.

So what caused the change in his behavior? It seems family and friends are more important to Farrell these days than the Hollywood social scene.

"We are daily looking for meaning in our lives, looking for where you fit into the grand scheme of things," said Farrell.

Farrell said he finds meaning in his kids, relationships, and "fellow humanoids." Colin has two sons, 9-year-old James and 2-year old Henry.

Though his comments may seem oddly deep coming from an action hero, Farrell explains that the film isn’t just a "shoot em' up" flick.

"It was first and foremost a big action film, but there was plenty of existential questioning that I could afford myself as an actor, about the nature of personality and character and the relevance of history and background," said Farrell. "The whole story is about him looking to confirm to himself who he is."

Bryan’s fight scene
gets "gross"

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston is so good at being bad. In the remake of '90s action flick Total Recall, Cranston does it again as the antagonist to Colin Farrell's hero.

Toward the end of the film, the 56-year-old actor gives 36-year-old Farrell quite a fight. But while the scene looked pretty brutal, it wasn’t Collin’s punches that had Cranston agonizing.

“I got pinkeye in both eyes!” Cranston said recently at the Total Recall press day.

The actor told us it happened during filming with Farrell in a pool of dirty water.

“We were sloshing around in there and they wanted us to feel more comfortable so they warmed the water,” said Cranston. “Everybody in the crew had to step in it. About near the end of the day, my eyes were so irritated. The warm water became like a petri dish. Everything was alive.”

Luckily they were filming in Canada, so he got it taken care of quickly.

When questioned about Bryan’s infection, Farrell had three words: “It was gross.”

Bryan was back to normal though when we saw him, and he filled us in on his plans for the future. He is starring in Ben Affleck's biopic Argo, coming out in October, and said working with Ben was a blessing.

“I think Ben is going to be the next Clint Eastwood,” Cranston told us. “He is really smart and grounded.”

But what everyone really wants to know is how he feels about his hit series Breaking Bad coming to an end after five seasons.

“It’s time to move on,” said Cranston. “I’d rather leave a year too early than a year too late.”

Girl Fight!

Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale have both played some pretty tough chicks in the past, but in Total Recall they take it to the limit.

Everybody loves a good girl fight, and Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale's brawl in Total Recall is one of the best.

Kate plays a secret agent trying to capture Colin Farrell character Hauser and his love interest, played by Biel. The women go at it in a tight elevator in the film, and their skills are pretty impressive.

“The gender neutrality of this fight was really exciting for us,” said Biel at the Total Recall press day in Los Angeles. “It’s two incredibly capable warrior women beating the sh*t out of each other. Men get to do that all the time, so it was pretty fun for us.”

So we wanted to know, who would win between the two in a real life scrap?

“She’s wiry,” Biel told us of her co-star. “I would be afraid to run into her in a dark alley.”

Beckinsale did look pretty terrifying in the film, even giving Farrell’s character a pretty bad beat down.

Total Recall’s Colin Farrell talks family and fitness >>

Kate’s husband, director Len Wiseman, told us the ladies did almost all of the stunts for the fighting scene themselves.

“I’d say 90% of the fight is them,” said Len. “Jessica and Kate seemed like the perfect match.”

While Jessica said she practiced parkour and yoga to get in shape for the role, Beckinsale was already in butt-kicking shape from her previous film, Underworld: Awakening.

Diet played a big role in their conditioning too, though. Kate said she ate protein every two to three hours to stay strong, while Jessica said she cut out foods like pasta, wine, and cheese.

Though they certainly looked the part, and played it well, the ladies said they doubt their skills will transfer over into real life.

“I think you get an unrealistic view of your abilities,” said Biel.

Kristen Stewart is persona non grata at Cosmopolis premiere

Robert Pattinson has banned Kristen Stewart from attending the premiere of his latest flick. Will she try to crash the party?

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson is afraid that Kristen Stewart will be a crazy stalker ex-girlfriend and show up at the premiere of his upcoming movie Cosmopolis -- so he has had her totally banned from the event!

According to an insider, the scorned Pattinson doesn't want his cheating ex to show up at the party in a misguided attempt to talk to him.

Director defends "trampire" Kristen Stewart >>

"Despite the fact Robert and Kristen have been communicating by cell phone, she will not be at the Cosmopolis New York premiere," a source told RadarOnline.

"Security was briefed and they were told that Kristen is not allowed anywhere near the red carpet or the after party. The decision was made because Robert just doesn't want to see her. There were fears that she could use it as a chance to talk to him in person and that sort of drama is not wanted at the premiere."

Charlize Theron joins Twihards in KStew hate >>

"There's also the fact that if she did attend, it would distract from the film premiere itself and the movie bosses are not interested in that sort of publicity. It's going to be Robert's first public appearance since the scandal broke -- and they really want to make it less of a media circus than it already will be," said the source.

Looks like you'll have to wait until the premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 to see their dramatic red carpet reunion.
