Even Disney princesses can't breastfeed in public without harassment

Mulan, Belle, Ariel, Pocahontas and Jasmine. These five Disney princesses have become moms, and they all made the decision to nurse their babies. Oh yeah — they also have no need for nursing covers, thank you. And they don't hesitate to nourish their tiny tots wherever they may be.

A Facebook fan page called Alternative Disney posted these amazing fan fiction masterpieces for all of us to enjoy.

Belle breastfeeding

And here's lovely Belle, nursing her sweet baby on a city street.

Ariel breastfeeding

Ariel breastfeeding

Ariel (who seems to still have her tail — hmm...) sits on a park bench as she breastfeeds her little bub. Wonder of wonders, the man sitting next to her continues to read the paper, because breastfeeding is no big deal.

Pocahontas breastfeeding

Pocahontas breastfeeding

Pocahontas seems to be quite comfortable breastfeeding her little one in this department store.

Jasmine nursing

Jasmine nursing

Jasmine realizes that breastfeeding at a restaurant table is no more offensive than that guy over there shoving steak in his piehole.

The really interesting thing about these pictures isn't necessarily the images themselves, even though they are quite sweet. No, the interesting thing is that even on these pieces of obvious fan art, where cartoons are depicted breastfeeding, where fake people who don't really exist are nursing in a public place, and none of it actually happened, people are going apeshit over nursing in public.

More: Mom breastfeeds 2 babies, but only 1 is hers

Within the comments, people are arguing over whether it's proper to nurse without a cover or to breastfeed in a restaurant.

It goes to show that people just cannot deal with breastfeeding, whether it's an actual human mother or a work of creative fictional fan art. We love them, and we thank these Disney princesses for showing us that breastfeeding a baby is not sexual, perverse or against the law.

Gilmore Girls: 6 Things we know so far about the revival

More: Gilmore Girls reboot: Where did the relationships end?

By no means do I want to interrupt my fellow Gilmore Girls fans who are celebrating appropriately, aka by drinking lots and lots of coffee, but it's important to inform you about all the details that have been revealed about the possible new episodes. FYI, Netflix has yet to comment about the news, so nothing is official.

With that said, here are six things unveiled, so far, about the rumored revival.

1. There will be four new episodes

As TVLine reported Monday, there will be four 90-minute episodes, which are basically mini movies. How amazing does that sound?

2. There will be a time jump

TVLine also reports that there will indeed be a time jump. Reportedly, the episodes will be featured during present day, which is about eight years after the series came to a close.

3. These major characters are most likely returning

It seems Lauren Graham (Lorelai), Alexis Bledel (Rory), Kelly Bishop (Emily) and Scott Patterson (Luke) are all set to return, according to TVLine. If that isn't enough, "all of the major players" will also most likely be featured.

More: QUIZ: Think you're the biggest Gilmore Girls fan? Prove it!

4. Rory's love interests will appear

For those who want to know about Rory's love life, TVLine reports that the plan is for "most — if not all — of Rory's major suitors to turn up." Here's hoping Jared Padalecki (Dean), Milo Ventimiglia (Jess) and Matt Czuchry (Logan) will definitely return.

5. Lauren Graham kind of confirmed the revival

As you can see below, here's what Graham tweeted about the news, which pretty much confirms the revival, right?

6. The original series creator is returning

Original series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino are tied to the revival, TVLine reports. Thank goodness. This also means fans will probably hear those final four words Amy's been keeping a secret.

Stay tuned, because I'm sure there will be more updates to come. Until then, let's get back to celebrating — with coffee.

What our Experts want you to know about parenting teens and tweens

$

0

For the second anniversary of the SheKnows Experts Among Us community, we reached out to the Experts to get their advice on parenting through some of the most emotional years in a young person's life. Here is their funny, insightful and beautiful advice for anyone parenting a teen or tween.

"Even though I don't have a tween or teen just yet (my oldest is only 6 years old), I can say one of the biggest things I know from when I was a teen with my own mom was to keep the lines of communication open and be there to talk and listen, because even if they don't seem to want to share as they are growing up, they still do need your love, support and guidance." — Expert Janine Huldie

"Don't feel a need to get the last word. And get a dog to provide for your need for unconditional love." — Expert Susan Jensen Smith

"If I've learned anything after having three teenage daughters, it's that they might not want to listen, but they do follow your example. If I'm healthy and set the example, they ultimately follow suit. Modeling the behavior I want my children to adopt is the best way to 'brainwash' your kids into adopting healthy habits. My other piece of advice is to hang in there because it's priceless when they become adults and say to you, 'Hey, you and mom were right...'" — Expert Dr. Mark Burhenne

"Remembering the importance of downtime, mutual support and building good study habits got the middle school years off to a healthy start." — Expert Lorraine Akemann

"Try and sympathize with them, but only sometimes. Their bodies are changing, their brain is all over the place and they are dealing with things that no parent really wants to talk about." — Expert Jasmine Smith

"Don't take it personally — they hate everyone at this age, and love everyone at this age. Do take it personally — they still want and need your influence!" — Expert Heather Lewis Kenny

"Snoop if you have to. Their mental and physical safety is of the utmost importance." — Expert Heather Steiger

"As a developmental psychologist I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that the number one mistake parents make with their tweens is changing their parenting style. There is a way to listen to your daughter without being her 'friend.' I see it all the time — tween girls start to learn how to manipulate their 'friend parent' instead of respecting the boundaries their parent used to have on them. Trying to find the balance between being overbearing and a total doormat is something I work with parents on all the time!" — Expert Dr. Cooper Lawrence

"Give them a little breathing room, and trust that they're smarter than you realize. Hover, poke, prod, insert yourself too much and you'll drive them away. That said, be present enough to know when they need your guidance, advice, shoulder, ear or to hear you say no. It's a balancing act. They need roots and wings." — Expert Margot Potter

"Don't debate... that just leads to a circular argument. Instead state what you want and expect, and provide clear consequences." — Expert Kerri Ames

"Let them make as many choices as possible and let them feel the consequences of their choices. It's really hard not to intervene sometimes, but it empowers them and shows them that you trust their choices. As they get older, they're going to face more and more situations where they have to make difficult choices without their parents, and the more life experiences they've had, the better choices they'll make. This is the hardest part of parenting for me." — Expert Tracy Gibb

"Know your teen/tween. Knowing them means spending time with them, observing them... long before they become teens. Have healthy boundaries. If you have healthy boundaries it teaches them to have healthy boundaries. Love unconditionally. Never give up on them and most important — in my humble opinion — don't parent out of fear!" — Expert Shari Lynne

"Pick your battles. Let them become their own person but set boundaries." — Expert Jennifer Weltz

"1) Resist the urge to jump in and 'fix' things — they want you to listen, not fix. 2) Monitor their social media accounts but don't comment on anything they post. Ever. 3) Don't judge. The most important thing they have to learn during these years is how to make decisions — even if they're not good ones. (This doesn't apply to life-threatening decisions, of course.) 4) Let them fail, get fired, lose a friend. It's better to have it happen now when they're in a safe environment and can bounce back easier." — Expert Kristen Daukas

"This is what I've learned from 25 years of teaching middle school and 20 years of parenting: Make clear boundaries, logical consequences, high expectations and unconditional love. Tell them you care. Tell them they are important. Be firm and loving... They are still learning, after all." — Expert Jennifer Wolfe

"So I have a 3-year-old that just turned 14, I mean 4 — so I don't quite have a teenager, but I heard this once and thought it was brilliant: Let them blame you. When it comes to them trying to get out of something with their friends, let them use you as an out. So if their friend wants them to try smoking they might say, 'Oh, God. My mother would punish me for the next five years if she smelled it on me.' It allows them to say no in an uncomfortable situation by blaming you." — Expert Jennifer Legra

"My experience with my teenagers is to leave your door open for them to talk. My children and I are always talking. We are not friends. There are boundaries. But they need to know they can trust you. For instance, my youngest son asked me what I look for in a man. He was trying to figure out the girl he likes." — Expert JRosemarie Francis

"Humor. Laugh at yourself and the situation. Never at your teen. Relax. Patience. Understand that in their eyes you know nothing, but someday they will realize (and admit) that you know everything. I'm starting on teen number four (she's 11). Been around this track a few times. Trust is big with teens. Be a parent, not a friend — they will respect you. Be willing to make the hard calls — it's not fun but must be done. Tell them you love them every day. Tell them you are proud of them every day. Listen to what they have to say. Don't be afraid to call in a mediator to help work out terrible disagreements. Be an example of who you want them to become and whom they should want in their lives. I could keep going but..." — Expert Tammi Young

"As a former social worker who has worked with high-risk families and parented three teens of my own, my best advice is to make sure that your teens don't replace you, the parent, with a peer or peers as the most important person in their life. A simple tip I would give parents is to make sure you physically hug your child every day (even when they are being difficult). That means going in your child's bedroom (knock first) and physically hugging them and saying, "I love you and I will always be there for you." You most likely will not get a response from them, particularly from the troubled teen who is hiding away in their bedroom, but trust me, this simple action will have a big impact on your future relationship with your teen. Some teens can really push your "buttons" and there will be some days (even weeks!) when you will not feel like doing this, but it does make a difference." — Expert Joanne Galbraith

"I currently have four teens! Communication and trust are very important in maintaining an open and honest relationship. My kids know they can talk to me about anything with no judgement. They can call me if they find themselves in a a bad situation and I will be there, no questions asked (until we get home, of course)." — Expert Jennifer Swartvagher

They're delicious, and the peanut butter is a favorite of my little one. With some creative decorations we found in our pantry — nothing too fancy — this recipe was made with lots of love.

We wanted to make something with a Halloween theme, and we decided to make spider cookies —fun with simple ingredients and decorated with delicious chocolate chips and licorice.

You can decorate the cookies with anything you want, just have fun making the most out of this amazing moment with your children.

  6. In a bowl combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  7. Add to the butter mixture and mix until all the dough comes together.

The Voice: Blake Shelton mesmerized by Miranda Lambert sound-alike (VIDEO)

Season 9 of The Voice has been, at times, very bittersweet. Fans were saddened when, during the season premiere, they noticed that Shelton was still wearing his wedding ring. This was not a mark of his continued devotion to Lambert, but rather, evidence that the blind auditions were filmed shortly before news of his divorce hit headlines. The ring has since disappeared — and this jewelry development has sparked even more sadness on Twitter.

Fans of the show were once again reminded of Shelton and Lambert's split during tonight's final round of Battles. This time, the reminder came in the form of a very talented member of Team Blake named Emily Ann Roberts, who duked it out against Morgan Frazier. Both of the country singers are perfect for Team Blake, but unfortunately, Shelton could only choose one to move on to the next round. Twitter users were not exactly surprised when he chose Roberts, for, as many claimed, she sounded a lot like Lambert.

The Battles were filmed shortly after Shelton and Lambert's divorce, so the coaches were far too nice to mention that Roberts sounded an awful lot like Shelton's ex. They instead focused on her youth, her likable personality and her command of the stage. However, Shelton himself drew an interesting comparison between Frazier and another top country star: Carrie Underwood! Shelton claimed that Frazier sounded just like Underwood when she hit an especially strong note at the end of her rendition of "I'm That Kind Of Girl."

A few fans suspect that Shelton took Roberts' Lambert-like voice into account when making his final decision. If this was the case, he certainly didn't say so; instead, Shelton claimed to have selected Roberts because he believed he could "make the biggest difference" with her. He added that it would have been far too painful to pass on the opportunity to work with somebody "so young and sounding so unique." Those who have noted the similarities between Roberts and Lambert disagree about her sounding unique, but they do believe that Shelton made the right choice.

Will we ever reach peak PSL? To be honest, we don't want to live in a world where fall doesn't mean pumpkin spice.

Oh, but don’t wait if you're interested in the new Color Club polish because, like Starbucks PSLs, this fall-scented shade of polish will be gone when the leaves finish falling from the trees.

Teen girl is challenging centuries-old view of menstruation in Nepal

But in some cultures, menstruating women aren't only denied access to menstrual products — they're also forbidden from staying indoors.

A new NPR report introduces us to two young women in Nepal who, though they live in vastly different situations, are required to follow certain rules during their monthly menstruation.

More: Woman donates her kidney to a stranger after seeing Facebook plea

Fourteen-year-old Kamala B.K. lives in the Nepalese village of Thankot and must stay in a shed during her time of the month.

"Because she's menstruating, she should not be entering another person's house. It's disrespectful," said Cecile Shrestha. Shrestha works with WaterAid, a nonprofit that is attempting to end the long-held tradition known as chaupadi. With chaupadi, women who are menstruating are considered to be impure.

"When they are menstruating, no matter what, they stay outside, they eat outside and they sleep outside," she said, adding that the sheds usually consist of a platform with no walls and (possibly) a thatched roof.

More: Harmful chemical in nail polish found to actually be absorbed by our bodies

Hundreds of miles away in urbanized Kathmandu, 15-year-old Prakriti Kandel faces the same sort of restrictions during her time of the month, except no sleeping outdoors.

"When I'm having my period, I can't touch my grandmother, I can't eat while she's eating. I can't touch the table while she's eating. I can't touch my father, I can't touch my mother," she told NPR.

She's also not allowed in the kitchen, but sometimes she forgets and it upsets her mother.

"It's kind of confusing. You are just going into the kitchen one day, and the next day you're not allowed," she said. "There was a time when my father got sick, and he was hospitalized. The doctors couldn't diagnose him, and then one of the priests, he said, because I had touched him when I was having my period, it could have infuriated the clan gods."

More: How one man came to see his scars as a thing of beauty (WATCH)

But the precocious teen is trying to change minds about menstruation and chaupadi. "Menstruation is not a taboo, but a power for women," she said.

Prakriti even wrote a novel, Imposter, where girls who get their periods also get superpowers.

"Because of this belief, because of this ritual, women are not equal to men. So this is just a way of discrimination, and discrimination always hurts," Prakriti said. "After school, I want to pursue political science at a very good college. And my aim in life is to be the prime minister of Nepal and change things."

More: 7 Classic makeup trends that were basically made for autumn

To launch her book FacePaint: The Story of Makeup, Eldridge takes us on a journey spanning 2,000 years of makeup trends, beginning with Egyptian times, when both men and women of all classes wore makeup on a daily basis.

In Ancient Greece obvious makeup was frowned upon — apart from an enormous monobrow, it seems — and plants and fruits were used to provide subtle colour.

Fast-forward to the end of the 19th century and the public perception of makeup was changing. The birth of the silent movie and female emancipation helped makeup become a symbol of strength, with women keen to make a statement by copying the dark sooty eyes and small rosebud mouths of vamps and flappers.

It's also a great reminder that, nowadays, anything goes. We have the freedom to mix and match our makeup styles, wearing as little or as much as we please. We can pair a '20s rosebud mouth with a monobrow à la Ancient Greece and that's perfectly OK.

Dad has perfect comeback for trolls who called his son's toy kitchen 'gay'

More: "Man up" and other gendered terms are no longer allowed in English schools

Unfortunately not everyone sees it that way because, well…, the Internet. When the dad who created it for his son's second birthday shared the pictures on Imgur.com some trolls couldn't resist having a dig.

“You are what is wrong with your country… I hope your kid gets beat up at school (sic)," commented one person, while another posted: "Seems a little gay to me."

At first Imgur user sixstringhook ignored the idiots but then he responded to them in the best way.

“Let me be perfectly blunt. F*** you,” he wrote. “Anytime we go to our local science center, or to the children’s museum, [our son] always wants to play in the kitchen playset area. He always wants to watch us cook and likes being involved, so we thought this would be a good idea.

“Furthermore, if my kid wanted a Barbie doll I would get it for him,” the father continued. “If that is what he wants, then that is what he wants. It’s his decision what he wants to play with. Not mine.”

Amen. Sometimes it's best to ignore the haters. Sometimes it's best to try to reason with them. And sometimes it's best just to drop the F-bomb and put them firmly in their small-minded, bigoted places.

Now let's get on with the most important thing — appreciating this kitchen playset in all its glory.

It began life as a $20 entertainment centre from Goodwill.

The doors were removed, it was sanded and a hole was cut for the sink (a.k.a. a metal dog bowl).

Relationship secrets from couples married 50 years or more

$
0
0

Yet it’s equally true yet not as heavily publicized that many, many couples have what it takes for the long haul. To wit: Six percent of married couples in the 2010 U.S. Census reported being married 50 years or longer. What lessons can you glean from their success?

Love can last for a lifetime when you do this.

1. Be each other's top priority

Gene and Beverly said, “I do” 54 years, three children and five grandchildren ago. They have stayed together because as Gene says, “We always make time for one another.”

Many couples that come to me for marriage therapy find themselves estranged. They live in the same house, sleep in the same bed, rear the same children but feel emotionally disconnected. The reason: They let the busyness of life become more important than maintaining their bond.

Beverly explains: “We realized early on how easy it would be to let hobbies, work, even our kids, get in the way of us spending time together. So, we determined once a week come hell or high water we’d have a date night. And that’s what we’ve done for 50+ years. In addition it’s never, ‘Oh, I’m going to finish this email first. You go to sleep. I’ll see you in the morning.’ We always make time to snuggle and share snippets about our day before falling asleep. We are each other’s number one.”

2. Don’t try to change your partner

In Guys and Dolls, Adelaide sang, “Marry the man today and change his ways tomorrow.” Cindy recently reached her 50th anniversary with college sweetheart Randy because she didn’t follow that advice!

Cindy explains, “When we first got married I was instantly on him about changing his wardrobe — way too many sports T-shirts for my taste — and learning to like going to parties. And Randy said something to me that I really took to heart: ‘Babe I love you for who you are, not who I want you to be, and I need you to accept me, the guy you married, for who I am.’”

Yes Cindy remains less than thrilled with his taste in wardrobe (though Randy puts on the suit and tie when necessary) and respects his dislike of parties (though he attends when it’s something important to her). But she doesn’t try to change the essence of who he is. Laughing, Cindy ends with, “We’re both perfectly imperfect the way we are!”

3. Make your partner feel special

“Unless I have a 103 fever I will go the extra mile for Jeff, as he does for me,” explains Dorothy, married nearly 60 years.

Going the extra mile, according to Dorothy, means doing special things for the most important person in her life each and every day. For example? “I bring him coffee and a croissant in bed every morning. It’s a tradition he so appreciates.” In turn, Jeff tells his wife every day how lucky he is to be with her. If she wants water or soda he won’t say, “Go get it” Rather, even when it’s inconvenient he will leap up to do something nice for his wife.

A major dictum for couples who’ve made it 50 years and beyond: Ask not what you can do for me, but what I can do for you.

4. Don't forget what fun feels like

Lois and Bob recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. The motto of this couple, respectively 93 and 92 years old, is “Enjoy each other and enjoy every day.”

That translates into not only partaking in leisure activities — i.e., going on cruises and socializing with neighbors — but in finding causes to work on together. Bob proclaims, “We’re active in community groups.”

Studies have shown that the happiest couples try new things together on a regular basis — be it taking wine tasting classes, attempting challenging puzzles, etc. Doing activities together recreates the chemical surges of early courtship.

Even in their 90s Lois and Bob are not resting on their laurels. They are constantly reinventing their ongoing love affair.

Don't let them get u down. Keep moving." There is also a surprising large number of people who agree with the magazine's statement, some of whose comments are included below.

"But seriously whatelse [sic] are you known for besides being kanye's ex and Wiz's baby mama and a stripper," aliy__chawu wrote.

Instagram user onederwuhman shared their thoughts, writing, "Lol why are you upset? This is how the majority sees you. When you objectify yourself how can you expect others to treat you any different."

More: Did Adele just tease a new single? (VIDEO)

And a damn good read it is too. The "Someone Like You" singer reveals the inspiration behind her long-awaited third album in the note, which was posted to her official Facebook and Twitter accounts.

“My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record,” she writes. “I'm making up with myself. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did or never did. But I haven't got time to hold on to the crumbs of my past like I used to. What's done is done."

“25 is about getting to know who I’ve become without realising,” she states, appearing to confirm reports that her third album will continue her trend of naming albums after the age at which she recorded them. The mum-of-one apologised for how long it’s taken her to record, saying: “And I’m sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened.”

Adele open letter to fans

Adele's third album is expected to be such a success that other artists are pushing back the release dates for their own albums, reported BBC newsbeat this week. Rapper Tinie Tempah said he had heard that some artists were "moving back their stuff."

"You can't put an album out at the same time as Adele, it's the law," said Olly Alexander from Years and Years at Monday's Q Awards.

Nov. 20 is the rumoured release date for Adele's third album, said the BBC. Which gives her plenty of time to whip her fans into even more of a frenzy as they await its drop.

Decadent slow cooker pumpkin brownies — completely worth the calories

$

I picked probably the worst time of year, but I decided to do a nutritional program with a coach, following a pretty specific set of macro-nutrients throughout the day. Want to know what surprisingly doesn't fit into this plan? Brownies. Sigh. That said, you can bet one of these perfectly seasonal treats, with its gooey center and crispy edges (to make both camps of brownie lovers happy), is sitting in my fridge right now, being saved for the one "cheat meal" I get a week. Can't really think of anything better to spend it on than a chocolate and pumpkin dessert that takes almost no effort at all to whip up.

More: Jenelle Evans insider reveals details about her latest cosmetic procedure

On Tuesday, Evans took to Instagram to share a before-and-after shot, with the before picture showing Evans sporting a slightly larger belly. Evans appears to be wearing the same clothing in both pictures, but her posture is very different; in the before picture she is slouching, and in the after picture she is standing upright with her arms pulled back.

Evans captioned the image, "I've been talking a lot about @flattummytea recently and look at the difference it's making! I've been drinking Flat Tummy Tea for the last couple of weeks and haven't made any changes to my diet. Bloating is no longer an issue, I feel lighter and have lots more energy. It really works! If you struggle with bloating and feeling blahhh then go check them out and order for yourself at flattummytea.com."

But fans are calling bullshit.

And k.r.y.s.t.a.l.8.8 also slammed the picture for being fake. She wrote, "I hate to say it but this is super fake. I can push my stomach out take a picture then suck it in and take another one and have a bigger difference than that. People are right the fold and everything are exactly the same. So fake, so unnecessary."

Fashion retailer's mannequins are labelled 'disgusting' and 'irresponsible'

More: Does Whistles' apology for its thin mannequin go far enough?

It was brought to the attention of the Twittersphere by writer Rhiannon L. Cosslett:

Oasis mannequin

Oasis mannequin

More: Topshop accused of glamorising self-harm with gold scar temporary tattoos

The stick-thin, misshapen legs, the thigh gap you'd need a bridge to cross… it's difficult to pinpoint exactly what makes this mannequin so weird. But is that the whole point? Is it ridiculous to even compare this type of mannequin to a real human body? As one Twitter user commented: "Ive never met anyone who wanted to look like a dummy. Its literally a piece of plastic. Not a role model (sic)."

Unfortunately, for anyone with a negative body image, not to mention a whole generation of body-conscious young girls who are bombarded with images of the "perfect" figure across all media, it's a great deal more than a piece of plastic.

In a statement to HuffPost UK Style, a spokesperson for Oasis said the "mannequins are not intended to symbolise real people."

"Measuring over 6ft in height and without distinct facial features, our store mannequins are highly stylised to represent an artistic prop and are in no way any attempt to accurately portray true-to-life proportions."

However the spokesperson went on to say that Oasis is "in the process of reviewing new mannequin styles."

Too-thin mannequins aren't responsible for body image issues and eating disorders. But they are adding unnecessary fuel to the fire. And until shops start responding to the demands of their customers, and use dummies with proportions that are realistic for a greater number of people than a size 8, 6ft-plus shape, the fuss isn't going to die down.

1. Paul Ryan for House Speaker, maybe

Paul Ryan announced he might accept a nomination for House Speaker, but only if his party stops acting like a bunch of jerks. In a speech, he set forth four major conditions that must be met in order for him to consider the position. The first is the GOP becoming a "proposition party" instead of an "opposition party" (nice, Paul!), followed by updated House rules to make everyone more effective leaders, more unity within the GOP and a personal note that his job as Speaker cannot cut into his family time. No one seems to really want the job — not even Ryan — but if they can adhere to some of his changes and ideas, that's good news for everyone. — TIME

2. Tragedy in the line of duty

A New York police officer was shot and killed last night in Harlem. The officer was responding to reports of gunfire when he was struck in the head with a bullet. The suspect was caught several blocks away with a gunshot wound to his leg and will be taken into custody upon release from the hospital. Randolph Holder, the slain officer, is the fourth New York officer shot and killed on the job in the past 11 months. Mayor De Blasio and the head of the NY Patrolmen's Benevolent Association are calling for community support to end the violence. — USA Today

3. No more of this, please

Police suspect arson after six different black churches in Missouri have burned down in the past 10 days. The fires began last week and have all happened within miles of each other. The only good thing in this story is that no one has been physically injured as a result of the fires. Neighboring churches have offered to help with cleanup and rebuilding efforts. The police investigation is ongoing. — The Guardian

4. New rules

New guidelines from the American Cancer Society have everyone talking. Yesterday, they announced that they're raising the recommended age for a first mammogram from 40 to 45 and doing away with clinical breast exams, unless there's a prior abnormality. The move comes after several studies showed mammograms can be harmful for younger women and create too many false positives that lead to "over-treatment." The guidelines only apply to women with an average risk of cancer and patients may still request mammography sooner. — The New York Times

5. Star Wars price gouging

Star Wars: The Force Awakens tickets are on sale, and all hell is breaking loose. Tickets to opening night are completely sold out and now scalpers are on the prowl. They're selling tickets on eBay for hundreds of dollars, with "buy now" prices well into the thousands. One man even had a four-pack of tickets on sale for $10,000! You'd hope no one in their right mind would pay that kind of money, but people are pretty desperate to be in line for the first showings. Star Wars just might end up paying for some scalpers' vacations this year. — Vulture

6. This is hilarious

Today is Back to the Future Day for us, but it already happened in Australia and they celebrated in the most hilarious way. Officials in Queensland put out a fake press release about an accident involving a teen driving 88 miles per hour, hitting a pole and causing a power outage that stopped the town's clock. The fake crash mirrors the scene in Back to the Future II when Doc and Marty go forward in time. The press release said the teen was carrying a license that "expired 30 years ago" and it included doctored photos of a police unit "arriving at the scene" on hover boards. Basically, they're going to let us finish, but they already had the best Back to the Future Day of all time. — BBC

Ahmed Mohamed, the boy arrested for bringing a clock to school, is moving to Qatar. The Qatari Foundation has offered to pay for his high school and entire undergraduate education, and his family is expected to leave within a matter of days. They say they chose this opportunity from many different offers because of the Qatari Foundation's focus on empowering youth. I'm sure we'll be seeing much more from Mohamed in the future. — Complex

Why I won't win Boss of the Year from my top employee

$

When a boss asks unfair questions

I pepper her with questions:

  • "Why hasn't this article been written yet?"
  • "Why aren't we further along with all of our plans?"
  • "Why aren't you about 20 pounds thinner than you were when we launched this business?"

I wonder — often out loud — what is going on with her.

Does she resent me? Maybe.

Do I think one day she'll walk out the door and never return. Not likely.

Why, you may be wondering, would anyone tolerate such cruel behavior? Because, sadly, the employee and the boss are one in the same. They are both me.

As business owners, we are often the CEO and the worker bee. We are the strategist and the assistant. We are the creative, and we’re the coffee maker. And as the ambitiously-driven founder, you often ride yourself harder than anyone you would ever hire. You would not treat anyone how you treat yourself.

We are often our worst critics and this quality only gets worse — and louder — when we’re starting a business. There is so much to do, too much to learn and a growing to-do list that could overtake a small village. How do we continue to drive our business forward and do so without demoralizing our number one — and most important — employee?

3 Ways to become your own boss of the year

1. Do unto yourself as you would do unto others

Would you speak to an employee or friends as harshly as you do to yourself? I'm guessing these words would never leave your lips when talking to others. So, why would you speak so harshly to yourself? When you're berating yourself for taking a much needed afternoon off, ponder whether you would speak this way to your favorite employee or friend.

2. Keep things separate

Our work and our lives are so enmeshed and tangled, we don't take the time off to fully engage with our private lives. We drag our work — primarily because we love it — into our personal lives and into our personal space and time. When we do this, it is hard to replenish and gain some much needed perspective. Make sure you create space for the rest of your life so you don’t regret what you’ve missed and become an even worse boss to yourself.

3. Bring back rewards

You work hard — incredibly hard. You don't have others giving you gold stars for your work and handing you a nice holiday gift at the end of the year. Oh, how we all miss that at some level. The bonuses, the praise, the fancy gifts and the sparkling reviews, that is all gone in a instant when we launch out on our own.

I say it’s high time we bring some of that back. Be your own favorite boss by setting some rewards to go with accomplishing your milestones. Even if the goal is completing a project on time — take yourself out for a spa day or buy yourself a little gift. Build rewards into your projects and goals.

When you’re running your own business, it is easy to get swept up in your own ambition and excitement for building something out of nothing. Make sure you don’t forget to be kind and generous to yourself. Be your very own "boss of the year."

More: Brandi Glanville responds to RHOBH departure news in surprising way

As previously reported, Glanville's time on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has come to an end, but that doesn't mean that she's disappearing from our TV screens for good — at least not according to a new report by Us Weekly.

According to the publication, Glanville has been filming scenes for Season 6 of the show, despite the fact that Bravo has already found her replacements. Two new members — former NFL star Marcus Allen's ex-wife, Kathryn Edwards and singer Erika Jayne — have reportedly joined the cast.

"She'll pop up here and there," an insider revealed of Glanville. "But by no means will she be on full-time."

More: Andy Cohen wants Brandi Glanville back on RHOBH, but it's a bad idea for 6 reasons

The reason for those appearances is to stir up trouble, as a second source reveals. "Producers brought her back to bring in some drama and liven things up."

Glanville certainly is one of the more controversial reality TV stars, and she recently created an uproar via Twitter for the list of questions she gave her 12-year-old son to ask on his first date — which included asking the girl if she was still a virgin.

The aftermath from that post is still being felt on Twitter, and Glanville does not seem to be enjoying life right now.
