Healthy snacks to throw in your beach bag this weekend

1. Frozen grapes dipped in Greek yogurt

A great alternative to the standard ice cream truck treats. A great balance of satisfying protein and carbohydrates. Dip them in chia seeds before freezing for some extra fiber and nutrition!

2. Popcorn

Boom Chicka Pop

Not only is this snack rich in antioxidants and fiber, it's also totally temperature safe and available in snack sizes. Double high five! I like seasonal favorites like Boom Chicka Pop's Sea Salt Popcorn

3. Hummus and veggies (carrots, peppers or cucumbers)

Hummus

Try Wild Garden to-go packs and toss some seasonal veggies in a BPA-free bag. Done and done!

4. Homemade trail mix

When you make your own trail mix, you get exactly what you want — and probably a whole lot less sugar. Try mixing your favorite whole grain cereal with almond slivers and unsweetened dried fruit.

5. Salsa with guacamole.

Fill a mason jar (so cute!) with a thin layer of guac and then a heavy layer of my favorite low cal snack... salsa. Not only will you be enjoying a delish snack, but fighting free radicals from the sun thanks to lycopene, a natural pigment found in tomatoes. Two birds, one stone!

6. Peanut butter with fruit and veggies

I hope you bought some mason jars in bulk. Place a thin layer of peanut butter in the bottom of the jar and fill to the brim with apple slices and celery.

7. Chopped salad in a cup

Throw a tossed salad into an empty Starbucks cup with the desired fixin's. Jam a plastic fork into the straw hole and call it a day!

8. Fresh baked muffins

Banana Muffins

Try my whole-grain banana and zucchini muffins for a small, portable snack using seasonal produce!

9. Cheese and fruit skewers

This snack is not only beautiful to look at, but fun for the whole family to make. Play around with your favorites and alternate while stacking. Guilt free and no grill required. There you have it! Summer sustenance to get you through the afternoon and hopefully to a solid (and safe) bronze tan.

Big Brother: Vanessa is losing her freaking mind over Clay and Johnny Mac

The hunter vs. the pretty boy

This week did not go as planned for Clay and Shelli, as the power couple that was running the house found themselves on the block together with no way to get off. That didn't mean, however, that they would go out without a fight or without causing drama in the house. It looks as if their plan might have worked!

This afternoon, while the houseguests were supposed to be getting ready for the big night, they were instead jumping down each other's throats. In the biggest fight of the season so far, Clay got in James' face and James dared him to hit him! Go, James! If Clay doesn't go home tonight, then James better watch out!

Then in comes Vanessa, who is going crazy in the house, screaming at everyone and accusing Clay and Johnny Mac of being related. Then she decides that they aren't related but are instead gay lovers! Really, Vanessa? Where do you come up with these things? You better hope your alliance wins HOH this week or you will probably be the next one packing your bags.

New dating-like apps help moms find friends

$

Recently The Today Show covered some of these new apps, using the unfortunate title "New 'mommy friend' apps help lonely moms find friends."

Great job. I'm sure those ladies appreciate being referred to as "lonely mommies." This will do wonders for their self-esteem. What an awful way to present what is a really great idea. When you couple the term "mommy" (something I hate with a white-hot passion) with photos like the one of two women toasting each other with cupcakes and three women holding hands while ice-skating (all of whom are, by the way, founders of some of these apps), what you do is infantilize women and portray the desire for moms to have mom friends as something that is adorable rather than important. Which it is.

More: Please don't be that mom this school year

When my twins were 3 months old, I joined a PEPS group with other moms of newborn twins. That group and those women saved my life. In my experience, there is nothing more powerful than talking to other mothers about parenting. Nothing makes you feel saner or more comforted than having another woman say, "I get it. I'm going through the same thing." In fact, just yesterday morning I got teary-eyed with relief while talking to my hairdresser about our respective 7-year-olds, all of whom, as it turns out, have become total a**holes over the summer.

These new apps, which can help women locate other moms by such identifiers as region, number of children, interests, etc., are fantastic ideas. The MomCo App allows women to connect via a forum through which they can arrange playdates. Hello Mamas creates matches for moms based on "similar interests, schedules, families, and personalities." Smile Mum is free on iTunes and also connects women with local moms with the same interests.

More: My son's Lyme disease was finally diagnosed thanks to my gut instinct

These kinds of apps are long overdue and, I'm sure, much appreciated by the women who use them. One of the best parts of these apps for introverts like myself is that they aren't Speed Dating for Mom Friends, which is, apparently, also a thing people who don't suffer from social anxiety can do without vomiting. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea for people who aren't me, but I'd rather be text-messaging on a Wednesday night with the mom across town while we watch The Bachelorette and ignore our children.

So bring on the mom friend apps! But please, don't call me "mommy." And don't invite me to go ice-skating without our children. That's a waste of an hour we could spend sitting, not wiping butts, and drinking wine.

Talking to teachers about adoption

$

Is it just me or is the summer slipping away and those three little words — back to school — are appearing every-fricken-where? Sigh.

My two 5-year-olds will be starting kindergarten in a few weeks. I feel like a pro at this whole school thing since my kids went to pre-K last year. We know where the bus stop is and how to electronically load lunch money in just 17 easy steps. School is a familiar place for my kids and I’m confident they’re ready for this new adventure.

More: Transracial adoption isn’t a secret

But, is school ready for them?

My boys are not twins. They are four months apart and if you see our family and have an IQ of above 12, you will quickly realize that they are adopted. They are clearly Asian… my husband and I are very clearly not Asian.

When we started school last year, it didn’t occur to us to talk to the teachers about adoption. I quickly realized that was the wrong approach.

Early in the school year, I heard one of the teachers refer to my boys as “the twins,” so I took a minute to correct her. It might not seem like a big deal, but I am teaching my kids to be honest about who they are and to be proud… and they are not twins.

“They’re not actually twins, although a lot of people think that. They’re four months apart.”

She gave me a strange look and said: “I don’t understand how that could happen.”

I’m not proud of my reaction. I gave her my special “you are so clueless” look of disgust and walked away. But that got me thinking... maybe I should have taken a few minutes to communicate my children’s somewhat unique circumstances to the people who were going to be spending a huge chunk of the day with them.

Why talk to teachers about adoption?

Behavior issues:  Adoption sometimes — not always — comes with collateral effects. There might be attachment issues or insecurities that stem from adoption or foster care placement, especially for kids who weren’t adopted as babies. If this is the case with your family, maybe it’s helpful for their teacher to know a bit of your story.

Terminology: No adoptive parent likes to be asked, “What happened to the real mother?” Or, “Why didn’t his real family want him?” As much as I’d like it not to be true, people are sometimes thoughtless when they ask about adoption. If you begin the relationship with the teacher on an open note, you have prime opportunity to introduce appropriate terms, such as, “Becky is Hunter’s birth mother,” or “Emily has three biological siblings that don’t live with our family.”

More: Ways to get a jump on back to school madness

How should you talk to teachers about adoption?

Since it’s so easy to communicate electronically nowadays, I plan to send our teachers some basic information via email sometime during the first week of school. Back to school nights and meet and greets are probably not the greatest times to launch into detailed family history. Plus, it’s nice for the teacher to have something in writing to refer to later. My email will probably go something like this:

"We adopted Kyle from China when he was 3. We have limited information about his early life… Can you contact me if you’re planning baby picture/family tree projects? Our family is pretty open about adoption… if you have questions, please ask!"

More: What attachment parenting is like when you adopt

This opens communication and alerts the teacher for potential sensitive spots, like the fact that my child might be the only one in his class without baby pictures.

I’m winging this whole mom thing and talking to teachers about adoption is no exception, but showing willingness to talk about it will (hopefully) start our school year off right. Now, if I could only figure out those damn lunch tickets.

10 Things every college freshman can actually use

$

And no, I'm not talking about a hot plate (although those are pretty great, if the dorm allows them). I'm talking about the things that will make your freshman's quality of life better in a pinch. Now don't panic, but if it's their first time away from home for longer than a month, they'll probably still end up calling you for things they suddenly realize they need. You can prepare for only so many scenarios, after all. However, this list of items should cover a lot of bases that the average college manual does not.

1. At least 30 pairs of underwear

Image: Britney Rogers/Flickr

Yes, you read that right — 30 pairs of underwear. It may sound crazy, but laundry quickly becomes an overwhelming task at college, especially because they'll end up doing it on the night everyone else has the same idea. More underwear just means they won't end up going commando for a week during exams (I might be speaking from experience).

2. 3 Sets of headphones

Image: ls20100000/Flickr

Trust me. They will lose the first two before Thanksgiving break.

3. A Dustbuster and 2 boxes of Swiffer pads

dust buster

dust buster

They might have someone come in and vacuum the floors of their dorm room, but that's about it. They'll also be eating cookies in bed, putting on glitter for a night out and Lord knows what else. They'll never love a cleaning appliance more that first year in college.

4. 1 Classic pair of jeans

Image: Kohl's

Mothers of freshman guys, this is for you. He needs one great pair of jeans without holes in them to wear on dates, to those Friday night parties and with a nice button-down for when you visit and take him out to dinner. Levi's® 511 Slim Fit is my personal favorite — still room to breath, but they give him a nice, slim line that automatically makes him look taller. They come in a ton of different colors, but the color "throttle" looks like it'll go with most things.

5. A collapsible cup

collapsible cup

collapsible cup

Just a good rule of thumb to teach your kids: Unless it came in a sealed bottle or can and you opened it yourself, always pour your own drinks into your own cup. They can clean it out in the sink, collapse it and put it back into their bags. You just never know what's in those big, red, plastic party cups.

6. Various gift cards

Image: 401(K)2012/Flickr

Sure, you'll probably give them a debit/credit card, but they'll love it if you secretly pack them with a bunch of gift cards to helpful stores nearby. Some suggestions might be Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, the local fast-food joint and a drugstore.

7. Several extension cords

extension cords

extension cords

No one really talks about needing these, but from personal experience, they will absolutely come in handy. Either the room will be set up where the outlet's as far from their stuff as possible, or they could need one for a spur-of-the-moment movie night. There will always be a reason, and they'll be glad to have a bunch.

8. At least 4 stain remover pens

tide to go

Freshman year of college is all about quick, easy fixes. Stain remover pens will become a lifesaver — especially when they're headed to a football game where they know their crush will be and an unfortunate spill happens on the way (true story).

8 Shopping tips for boys that will get you through back to school

$

The men's clothing department is a whole other world, and believe it or not, teen boys can be just as picky as teenage girls when it comes to what they wear. Survive your shopping experience, and get some duds they'll be happy to wear with these easy shopping hacks.

1. Know his style

Just like girls, teenage boys each have their own unique style, and they're not likely to wear something that falls outside of their comfort zone. Is he casual, preppy or athletic? Maybe a combination of those? Knowing this ahead of time will get you off to a good start and avoid disaster when you arrive home with your purchases.

2. Know the lingo

You probably have a fit you prefer in your clothes, and so does he. There's a world of difference between slim fit, modern and relaxed clothing (and those are just a few of the cuts you'll find), and it's important to know the difference and which he prefers. Look for brands that have classic fits, like Levi's® 501® Original Fit, whose numbered styles guarantee you're always going to get the fit he loves.

3. Go for comfort

Ladies might be willing to suffer for fashion, but guys don't fall for that trap. Look for soft fabrics and loose waistlines, and avoid anything that might feel scratchy.

4. Stock up on T-shirts

Lucky for you, tees are always in style no matter what trends he follows. They're great alone for a casual look, layer nicely under other shirts and can be worn over collared shirts or with jackets for a more trendy look. Stock up on both plain and graphic tees, and he'll be a happy (and well-dressed) camper.

5. Mix it up

He might be a jeans-and-T-shirts guy, but everyone needs a little wiggle room in their wardrobe. Choose a pair of khaki pants and a few dressier shirts for special occasions or days when he just feels like something different.

6. Don't get too trendy

There's nothing wrong with wanting to help him be on trend, but limit those purchases to a few key pieces. Trends pass by just as quickly for boys as they do for the ladies, so don't invest too much in pieces he'll wear for only one season.

7. Choose quality

It might seem like a good idea to always reach for the cheaper clothing items, especially for a growing teen, but this is one of those times when quality really does matter. Boys are definitely not easy on their clothes, and low-cost brands don't always hold up to all the wear and tear. It's worth the extra money to stick with a brand you know and trust — or else you may be buying a whole new wardrobe by the time winter arrives.

8. Let him layer

Boys tend to layer up, and they can't always be bothered with matching. Buy him some hoodies (both zippered and pullover) in basic colors like gray, black and navy that will look good thrown over just about anything. Stay with a slightly fitted look to keep him from looking sloppy.

More: John Stamos responds to rumors that he tried to get the Olsen twins fired

During a panel for his new comedy, The Grinder, Lowe made all of our dreams come true by revealing that he and the hunky Full House actor are officially an item.

OK, maybe not, especially since Lowe is happily married. But they clearly have a bromance that's a little more intense than anyone could have predicted.

The two are both on the Television Critics Association summer press tour to promote their upcoming shows and other projects. During the panel for The Grinder, Lowe was asked by a reporter if he and Stamos have bonded over their "criminal" handsomeness.

Lowe went right along with the joke, saying, "As a member of Jimmy Kimmel's Handsome Men's Club, Stamos has been up for membership. So far, the board hasn't voted him in yet."

More: John Stamos has to fend off selfies after sex

Um, what? If anyone, and we mean anyone, deserves membership in that club, it's Stamos, right?

Lowe continued on to explain who's for and against a Stamos induction.

"Sting is really lobbying hard on his behalf," he said. "David Beckham has blackballed him every time he's gotten close. I am looking forward to when John eventually makes it in. It's a wonderful club."

Good thing Stamos was there to set the record straight. Set to take the stage after Lowe to promote his own upcoming show, Stamos yelled from the back of the ballroom, "Rob, tell the truth, we've dated for years!"

Hollywood's newest power couple, ladies and gentlemen. No one else will be able to hold a candle to that much hotness in one pair.

Rosie O'Donnell's response to Donald Trump shows all the class he lacks

More: Rosie O'Donnell's drug test could spell doom for her custody case

During Thursday's GOP debate, candidate Donald Trump was called out for his often-hateful rhetoric toward women.

When asked by co-moderator Megyn Kelly to explain himself for referring to women — both on the campaign trail and on social media — as "dogs, slobs and disgusting animals," Trump responded, without missing a beat, "Only Rosie O'Donnell."

Despite the crowd's mixed reaction of gasps and cheers, it's no surprise that no love is lost between Trump and O'Donnell. The two have been in an ongoing feud for years now.

But O'Donnell, who would have been completely justified in answering Trump's remark with anger, instead took the high road in a tweet she posted almost immediately after Trump's comment, seemingly directed at the business-mogul-turned-presidential-candidate.

"Try explaining that 2 ur kids," O'Donnell wrote.

Rosie O'Donnell debate tweet

Rosie O'Donnell debate tweet

It's not even the first time this year that Trump has lashed out at O'Donnell with crass comments.

"It's very sad what's happened to The View, and I predicted that, with Rosie O'Donnell, it would fail," Trump told E! News earlier this year. "The prediction is correct. I mean, she's a total train wreck. Let's see what happens, and I hope it works out well."

He continued, "I've been on The View many times and I like the show a lot, but let's face it — Rosie's a loser."

The rest of the debate, which featured 10 GOP candidate hopefuls — Ted Cruz, Scott Walker, Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson and Rand Paul — was filled with similarly crass comments from Trump, who repeatedly referred to the American government as "stupid."

Jenelle Evans argument

Teen Mom 2 meets the real world

If you've been keeping up with Jenelle's current love life (as opposed to the delayed Teen Mom 2 timeline), you already know that the reality star has ended her engagement... for the second time! It was already oddly fascinating to see her roller coaster relationship on Teen Mom 2, but it's even more intriguing in light of her recent issues with Nathan. Typically, fans of the show are quick to side with Jenelle, but during tonight's episode, Nathan gained a surprising level of sympathy.

More: Jenelle Evans admits that her son isn't her priority, at all

Nathan acts (gasp) reasonable while discussing custody issues

Jenelle is determined to be a bigger part of Jace's life, and while it initially seemed like Nathan didn't give a crap, it turns out that he had a surprisingly reasonable take on the whole situation. According to Nathan, it's a bad idea to take Jace away from the place he's called home for so long. He makes a good point — Jace is accustomed to living with Barbara, and while his living situation is certainly not perfect, it's at least somewhat stable.

More: Jenelle Evans makes an unexpected decision about her engagement

Ditching Team Jenelle

Jenelle thinks that Nathan is never on her side, but really, it's hard to side with somebody who expresses such a lack of gratitude for the woman who stepped in and cared for Jace when his absentee mother was doing drugs and getting in trouble with the law. If anything, by calmly assessing the situation to see which setup is best for Jenelle's oldest son, Nathan is abandoning Team Jenelle and joining Team Jace. And that's one team everybody's happy to join.

More: Jenelle Evans and her mom are embroiled in a bitter custody battle

Nathan is usually attacked mercilessly on Twitter, but not tonight. Fans of Teen Mom 2 actually managed to say something good about the controversial reality star:

Will the real Nathan Griffith please stand up?

It's hard to believe that the guy who calmly walked away from a potentially explosive argument with Jenelle is the same dude who was arrested for domestic violence. How is it that he can seem so reasonable one moment and be such a toxic presence the next? He managed to avoid a violent confrontation this time, but we already know that this is not how one of his future arguments will end.

Nathan leaves Team Jenelle

If one thing is obvious, it's that Jenelle and Nathan bring out the worst in each other, so it's a good thing for the sake of the reality stars and their poor kids that they are once again on the outs. Now, the question is, will they once again jeopardize their children by getting back together? It's hard to say, but after seeing just a hint of the trouble brewing in their relationship, most fans hope that they'll finally give up on this ill-fated romance.

Should Nathan Griffith have offered Jenelle Evans more support? Or was sticking up for Barbara (and Jace) the right choice? Comment and share your thoughts!

Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert's last Daily Show moment was so emotional (VIDEO)

More: A look at some of Jon's final guests

In a studio filled to the brim with famous guests and one-time correspondents (Stewart seems to have single-handedly spawned more successful careers than Lorne Michaels' SNL), tears and laughter were not only appropriate, but expected. Nothing felt more emotional, though, than a visit from Stephen Colbert.

The minute The Colbert Report premiered on Comedy Central, Jon Stewart seemed to find both a worthy adversary and a comedic bestie. The two comedians and political commentators spent years batting back and forth during pre and post-show crossovers. Onstage together, their strange bromance could fill a room with sarcasm and laughter, the likes of which television studio audiences had not yet experienced. In their final meet-up on The Daily Show's stage, however, there was no place for sarcasm — and even the jokes brought tears.

More: Even Jon Stewart super-fans don't know these 10 things about The Daily Show host

Ever the nerd, Colbert compared his and Stewart's political quest to that of Sam and Frodo's journey to find the rings of power. Height jokes were made, of course. But it was impossible not to turn serious in light of Stewart's retirement. And, despite Stewart specifically asking that no one thank him, it was Colbert who delivered the gratitude of everyone in the studio and on the millions of couches across the globe.

"Here's the thing, Jon. You said to me and to many other people here many years ago never to thank you because we owe you nothing," Colbert shared. "But that is one of the few times I've known you to be dead wrong. We owe you — and not just what you did for our career by employing us to come on this tremendous show that you made. We owe you because we learned from you."

To find out what they learned from Stewart, watch Colbert's farewell right here.

Stephen Colbert Makes Jon Stewart Cry 2a

And, if that doesn't get you emotional enough, know this: In his last episode, Stewart raised roughly $2.2 million dollars for New York Collaborates for Autism. Money was raised by people donating to the fund in order to win tickets to come to the final show's taping and hang out with Stewart. The winning donation-giver donated $100, but in total much more was raised for the charity, which Stewart often champions.

As always, he remains a classy and caring guy and we hope he doesn't escape the public eye for too long.

Project Runway: Tim Gunn surprised everyone with 12 harsh, hilarious one-liners

$
0
0

Now, I have no proof, but I suspect they have replaced the real Tim Gunn with his evil twin brother. Not unlike Big Brother, I’m calling this one the “unofficial twin twist.” They seem to have hidden nice Tim (somewhere warm and sunny, I hope) and brought in Evil Tim.

More: Fall 2015 reality shows coming to a TV near you

Here is my evidence as I present the case for "Lifetime kidnapped the real Tim Gunn and brought in Evil Tim":

Upon greeting the designers, the real Tim Gunn would have given them a pep talk. He would have made them feel excited, inspired and welcome. That’s not at all what happened last night.

Evil Tim walked into the workroom for the first time and immediately laid right into them: “As you know, we asked you to bring your personal tool kits. Now, something completely unprecedented has happened. Three of you…” — and then he pointed them out — “David, Swapnil, Merline… brought nothing!”

The camera panned to the reaction of the designers who looked as perplexed as I was. They, too, were obviously wondering where the real Tim Gunn had gone.

He continued, “I have to tell you I am absolutely incredulous! How could this be?! It’s like going on a long camping trip and not bringing any toothpaste or shampoo!”

More: Tim Gunn can't look Anna Wintour in the eyes

OK, it’s clear that Evil Tim Gunn has never been on a camping trip in his life. Toothpaste and shampoo are not camping essentials, but he did scold them pretty harshly right from the get-go.

I know it was Evil Tim who came in to check on the designers' progress, because the real Tim would have said, “Channel your inner winner,” “Edit! Edit! Edit!” or his harshest critique, “This concerns me.” But not Evil Tim, no, sir.

That guy snuck up on poor Edmond, who has been auditioning for the show since Season 1, and told him, “It makes me question your conceptual abilities and your construction. It looks more like a mistake... it's the antithesis of joy!"

But he doesn’t stop there.

Kelly, who learned how to make clothes because she was poor and had to, was told by Evil Tim, “You've gotta do something that brings this out of the amateur hour!"

Sweet little Lindsay, whom Twitter thinks isn’t a real designer but Taylor Swift in disguise, nearly cried when Evil Tim told her, “I just feel as though we can already go out and get this."

When Swapnil told Evil Tim, “I don’t like making clothes in a rush; you can almost see his head about to spin and the steam rise from his ears," he followed it with, “Well, welcome to Project Runway, the whole season's gonna be a rush, geez!" followed by an eye roll and a "wow."

It got so bad, they just did a montage of Evil Tim spewings:

“The pleats just look so messy!"

“Where's the innovation?”

“It droops!”

“It looks like a receptacle.”

But the real moment was Merline. When Evil Tim flew over on his broom to see her, he asked about her design. She showed him what she had sewn — “into the Muslim” (and she said that not once, but three times). Evil Tim couldn’t take it another minute and he fervently and impatiently corrected her: “It's muslin with an 'n.' It's not a Muslim!"

Beaten down, no longer able to identify fuchsia as a color or tell pinking shears from embroidery scissors, the designers were ready to call it quits. Evil Tim gave one more dig:

“All right, designers. I'm not gonna mince words. Generally speaking, I'm really disappointed. A lot of you have a big lump of coal up your rear ends. You either need to get that lump of coal out or turn it into a diamond.”

More: How Project Runway's Tim Gunn is saving the world

What the heck is going on? In previous seasons, Tim Gunn (the real one) was pretty much even-tempered. He began to unravel a couple of seasons ago, lashing out only on rare occasions. But this season, we have been warned, according to Entertainment Weekly, we’re going to get “something unprecedented: a seriously pissed-off Tim Gunn.” And we certainly did!

Is this a ruse designed by the producers to get more ratings? Maybe. I think the answer is that while it's far more entertaining for him to be Evil Tim, I personally like the grandmotherly Tim Gunn who is your unwavering supporter, like my bubby always was. This Simon Cowell effect will certainly draw more viewers in theory, but in this ordinarily supportive, vulnerable environment of designers and creative types, will this tactic garner ratings? More importantly, where is the real Tim Gunn hiding? Where is the guy who told me that wrap dresses are made so women can put on a few pounds and still look fabulous? Bring him back! As Tim Gunn would say, “This concerns me enormously.”

What'd you think of Gunn? Tell us in the comments below!

Here are five more looks you can "do cleavage" in beautifully and flawlessly.

1. Evening dresses

Evening gowns with a little oomph in the bust can be ultra-chic and sophisticated. "Certain evening gowns that show cleavage can be pulled off in an elegant way," says Elycia Rubin, the former style director of E! and author of Frumpy to Foxy in 15 Minutes Flat.

2. Bathing suits

If you've got it, it's often hard not to flaunt it in a bikini or one-piece. So do it! You'll look and feel super sexy once you've picked out the one that "suits" you best. Just make sure you have some support so you don't have a wardrobe malfunction on the beach or at the pool, Rubin advises.

More: The best bikini tops for every kind of boob

3. V-neck and halter tops

V-neck and halter tops with a little "plunge" to show off your assets are super pretty and not at all questionable, especially with the right stuff underneath. "One of the keys is wearing a good bra," Rubin says — one that accentuates your cleavage perfectly.

4. Summer dresses

Summer dresses are cute and flirty, and those that are a little revealing in the chest area are even more smokin'. What better time to show your girls than when it's hot outside? Meow!

5. Blouses

A blouse can be a classy way to give your bust a boost, especially when you pair it with something that has flair, like a sexy-but-coy fitted skirt (maybe with a ruffle at the bottom or a slit up the side), a pair of tight boot-cut pants or even just some skinny jeans.

The takeaway? Showing cleavage can be stylish, fun and even elegant. Whatever you wear to do it, wear it with confidence and own it. You're hot!

"It can be perfectly lovely to show a bit -- it can be feminine," Rubin says. It is feminine.

Chocolate and beer cupcakes

Beer Cupcakes

Ingredients:

For the batter:

  • 100 millilitres beer (I used Augustiner Helles)
  • 200 grams flour
  • 30 grams cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 50 grams dark chocolate flakes
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 50 grams softened butter
  • 200 grams brown sugar
  • 1 egg

For the frosting:

  • 50 millilitres beer
  • 50 grams brown sugar
  • 50 grams softened butter
  • 200 grams cream cheese
  • 500 grams icing sugar
  • 50 grams pretzels
  • Salt

Directions:

For the cupcakes:

  1. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees C. Prepare the cupcake liners.
  2. In a small pot, bring the beer up to a simmer. Then take it off the heat and allow it to cool.
  3. In a big bowl, beat the butter, sugar and egg until creamy and well combined.
  4. Slowly add the flour, baking powder, salt and chocolate flakes, and mix until well combined.
  5. Working a little bit at a time, add the warm beer to the mixture and beat. The batter will be quite liquid and thin.
  6. Fill the cupcake liners about two-thirds of the way and bake for 15-20 minutes (or until a toothpick comes out clean).

For the frosting:

  1. Throw the pretzels into a mixer and blend them up until they're relatively fine.
  2. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, butter and icing sugar. Then add the pretzels and salt and fold them through.
  3. In a small pot, bring the beer and brown sugar up to a simmer. Stir constantly until it reduces by half. Then take it off the heat and keep stirring. Add it to the cream cheese mixture and beat until it's incorporated.
  4. Cover the bowl with cling film and put the frosting in the fridge for at least an hour to allow it to harden. Once it's ready (and the cupcakes have cooled), pipe or spoon the frosting onto the cupcakes and garnish with chocolate flakes or pretzels.

5 Tips for setting up good boundaries for screen time

$
0
0

Of course, that's precisely the reason it is so very important to establish good boundaries for screen time. Not only will having those boundaries in place help your child flourish, but it will also make them less susceptible to screen time temptations when they are outside the protective fold of home.

Easier said than done, right? Although putting those boundaries in place can seem like a daunting task when you're faced with a toddler mid-tantrum (we've all been there!), here are a few tips to help make the process less stressful.

1. Define your boundaries

This may seem like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised how often it is overlooked. With younger children, it's important for the child to know exactly where you stand. For older children, you certainly don't want to give them ammunition for the classic "I didn't know that's what you were talking about" excuse. So for starters, pinpoint what you want in terms of screen time so you can then explain it in palpable terms to your kids.

2. Make limits part of the routine

If you're having trouble making a general time frame stick — such as no more than two hours of TV per day — try breaking up screen time and incorporating it into your daily agenda. So for example, you might allow your kids to tune in for half an hour after breakfast and lunch and an hour after dinner in the early evening. When kids get used to the schedule, they'll start to accept the TV time parameters as just another part of your household routine and, therefore, a fact of life.

3. Enforce boundaries

Yes, this one is tough. Any parent who has experienced the wrath of a 2-year-old in the middle of an interrupted Bubble Guppies marathon understands just how vexing enforcing screen time boundaries can be (am I right?). But kids have to learn to understand there are consequences to crossing boundaries — that TV time is a privilege, and that privilege is earned. If your kid is supposed to do their homework before afternoon cartoons and they don't, well, hold them accountable. A tantrum may ensue, but ultimately your child will learn to respect you (and by proxy, other authority figures) as well as the rules you put in place to protect them.

4. Don't confuse boundaries with punishments

Setting a boundary and enforcing it should never turn into going on the offensive in the face of an impending argument. Mom blogging guru Meghan Leahy sums this up in an on-point analogy: "A good fence that separates the child from a dangerous cliff does not come out and attack the child when the child runs into it. It just stands there. Being a fence. Holding strong. You need to be the fence. Hold strong, and resist the urge to attack."

5. Be the example you want your child to see

It's easy to pass the buck and point to other families or experts who make passing suggestions about how much screen time your child should have. But the strongest example your child will ever have is you. If they see you absorbed in the digital realm — watching TV, face in your phone, surfing the Internet, trolling Facebook — it will make it that much more tempting for them to follow suit. Be mindful of how much screen time you partake in around your children, and it'll make setting boundaries worlds easier in the long run.

More: Jenelle Evans makes an unexpected decision about her engagement

With the Teen Mom star's wedding to longtime boyfriend Tyler Baltierra just days away, the groom-to-be posted a pic to Instagram of who we assume will be a surprise guest at his wedding: his father, who has just recently been released from prison. "Look at my pops all jazzed up! First time ever being in a tux...I gotta tell ya, I really missed having him around. It's good to have him home #ButchIsFree #PopsIsOut," Baltierra captioned the photo of his father, Butch, wearing a tuxedo, which we can only assume was being fitted for the wedding.

Baltierra and his often-estranged father have had a strained relationship, chronicled as he appeared alongside Lowell on 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom. Butch, a Michigan native, has spent much of his son's life in prison for various drug-related charges.

More: Farrah Abraham's critics attack her parenting with cruel comments (PHOTO)

We're excited that it looks like this important family member will be able to celebrate Baltierra's and Lowell's nuptials, even though Baltierra's relationship with his father has clearly been tough to keep up. Case in point? On Father's Day, Baltierra took to social media to write a touching tribute... to his mom.

"I just want to say Happy Fathers Day to one of the strongest, most influential people in my life… my mom," he wrote at the time. "I did not have the luxury of having my dad around since he decided to choose drugs over his children, but mom NEVER gave up on us kids."

Everyone knows you have to make compromises when you're in a relationship, but there's a difference between compromise and compromising as the sun/Uranus trine on Aug. 13 shows. This is a fiery authentic energy so it's going to demand that both people be real because it's only by being true to yourself that you can recognize the truth in your partner. No one will be allowed to overshadow or to play the role of the martyr. There are few opportunities when we get to toss the roles that we play into the bonfire and this is one of them.

Jupiter enters that part of your solar chart that pertains to the heart on Aug. 11. Over the next year you will see your love life blossom. But this won't be a profusion of dates and eligible bachelors. Jupiter has its eye on long-lasting ties when it's in Virgo. If marriage doesn't top the agenda, then it will be the next best thing. Your heart has been put through the wringer these past three(ish) years, but now that you know what you don't want in a relationship, you'll be even more adamant about what you do.

Be careful what you wish for because it might just come true on Aug. 12. You need to be sure about the feelings you have for a certain someone. Up until now those feelings have been stoked by him resisting you, but it looks like he's on the verge of changing his mind. This sudden about-face could send you running in the opposite direction. If there's any danger of that happening, then stop pursuing him because you'll break his heart. However, if you truly want him, then keep going because you're on the verge of getting your heart's desire.

You don't want to become an enabler, but you can't turn your back on this person either. Work out a payment plan ahead of time. If this person keeps the deadlines, great. You like to make things nice and hate to upset anyone; but spiritually you can't, and being a fire sign the spirit always wins out. Careful where you direct those glances this week because you may wind up falling for someone and falling hard. In medieval times, people believed that love was an illness. If someone attractive met your gaze, then that put you at risk of love shooting its arrows into your heart and infecting you with a longing that could leave you at death's door if that love wasn't consummated. It may sound crazy, but given the way that people get carried away with people nowadays, you might consider sporting dark sunglasses until the coast clears after the 17th.

Was getting back together a mistake? It's a question worth asking when Venus is retrograde (July 25 – Sept. 6). Old flames get rekindled and penitent exes often ask for a round two during this time. Sometimes this confirms why you broke up and sometimes it really does offer a second chance. Saturn heavy in your horoscope right now is bound to make you see more faults than merits, but give yourself time to adjust. Kim Richards' family is reportedly forcing her to be hospitalized

More: Kim Richards' dying ex-husband says his final goodbye to his lovers (PHOTOS)

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum is already facing a mountain of personal troubles after she was arrested for shoplifting from a Target in San Fernando Valley, near Los Angeles. Now, Us Weekly reports that multiple sources have confirmed that concerned family members have had the reality star hospitalized.

"Her family checked her in," one source told the magazine. "She wants to get out ASAP, but her family refuses."

Richards was arrested Aug. 2 and accused of stealing more than 100 items from the store, totaling more than $600, a Los Angeles City Attorney told reporters. She spent that night in jail but was released the next day, Aug. 3, on $5,000 bail.

More: Kim Richards' recent interview about her sobriety is worrisome (VIDEO)

Richards has pleaded not guilty to that crime, and her first court appearance is on Aug. 20. Previously, she was arrested for public intoxication, battery and resisting arrest after a drunken confrontation with police officers at a Beverly Hills hotel last spring. The string of legal trouble pushed Richards to check into multiple rehab facilities, and she told Entertainment Tonight in an interview last month that she's getting her life back in order.

"I love sobriety," she said during the July 22 interview. "I've always loved sobriety, and relapsing was very hard for me. It was not easy. I have to say, don't take this wrong, but I really wanted to go to treatment because I needed a break from what I was going through at home."

Her home struggles include a terminally ill husband and a son who is "not well," Richards said.

Richards hasn't commented on reports of her latest hospitalization, and sources were unable to reveal the reason behind the stay.

The singer, who has been publicly feuding with Katy Perry for years now, got harshly called out by Miley Cyrus for her "Bad Blood" video, which features Swift and her squad of girlfriends exacting fiery revenge on a former ally — presumably Perry.

Cyrus covers the September issue of Marie Claire, and in her interview for the shoot, she didn't hold back any shade when it comes to how she feels about Swift's video.

"I don't get the violence revenge thing," Cyrus said. "That's supposed to be a good example? And I'm a bad role model because I'm running around with my titties out? I'm not sure how titties are worse than guns."

More: Miley Cyrus slammed as an "idiot" for always having her tongue out (PHOTO)

She continued, "There is so much sexism, ageism, you name it. Kendrick Lamar sings about LSD and he's cool. I do it and I'm a druggie whore."

Meanwhile, between Swift and Cyrus, there used to be mad love.

Swift had a cameo in Cyrus' Hannah Montana: The Movie back in 2009, and the two did promotional interviews and appearances together at the time.

"It's so cool to become a part of the Hannah Montana phenomenon that's taking over the world right now," Swift says in a throwback interview clip posted by Us Weekly. "Miley is pretty much the same person off camera that you see on camera. She is so outgoing and everything is big and huge and awesome. She's just such a positive person. She's not reserved. She doesn't hold anything back, which is one of my favorite things about her."
