More: Amy Schumer addresses her devotion to feminism in one great quote

Jenner's transformation has been the topic of much discussion in recent months, as well as the butt of a few unnecessary and offensive jokes, à la Jamie Fox. However, when Schumer hosts the MTV Movie Awards this weekend she admits that she has no plans to roast Jenner.

"I would never. I think he looks good," the Trainwreck star told Entertainment Tonight. "We have the same hair."

So, who does she plan to roast during the awards show? She plans to "lightly trash everyone," but she has one particular celeb in mind.

"Kevin Hart should be the most afraid, but I did give him a heads-up. I just thought it'd be funny to go after him super-hard," Schumer explained, adding, "I want to see 'Get Hart.' A movie that teaches you how to survive seeing a Kevin Hart movie."

The MTV Movie Awards airs on Sunday, April 12, and we can't wait to see what jokes Schumer has up her sleeve.

How to frost a cake like a professional baker (VIDEO)

Who am I kidding? I just would have been more interested in eating that perfect cake after someone else frosted it. What can I say? I'm more of a cake eater than a cake baker.

But for those of you who are interested in baking — and specifically in getting perfectly smooth buttercream on your finished product — I have good news for you. It actually doesn't look that hard. The key is using way more frosting than you'd ever think you needed and scraping the sides in one continuous motion. See for yourself. Warning: You will want cake after watching.

Still not convinced that fancy frosting techniques are for you? Trust me, I get it... Try one of these super-easy cakes instead.

1. Cookie dough-frosted chocolate cake recipe

Start with a boxed cake mix, and upgrade it with some tasty add-ins. The (literal) icing on the cake is this to-die-for cookie dough frosting.

2. Super-easy grapefruit-rosemary cake recipe

The Feminist Porn Awards celebrates its 10th anniversay this year

Over the past 10 years, the feminist porn movement has grown to be strong and the community more widespread. This has been largely in part to sex shop Good for Her and their annual event, The Feminist Porn Awards (FPAs) — a multi-night celebration of all things female and sex positive.

The FPAs had humble and somewhat political beginnings. The team behind Good for Her was frustrated with the porn industry's lack of diverse representation, and many of their workers and customers wanted more pornography featuring people of colour, trans folks, queers and lesbians. It was being produced, but not enough people knew about it or where to get it. So The Feminist Porn Awards was created by Chanelle Gallant (former store manager), who envisioned something that would recognize, endorse and celebrate those who were making feminist porn.

A lot has changed since the first Feminist Porn Awards in 2006. Carlyle Jansen, founder of Good for Her, says, "We've gotten bigger, expanded the number of nights and events. We've received more submissions from amateur porn makers as well as professional ventures." More and more people in the mainstream have been willing to have an open, honest and frank discussion surrounding porn, feminism and feminist porn, with people of all genders and orientations embracing the concept of feminist porn. Carlyle tells me, "Everyone is welcome, and we try to make that abundantly clear. Questions, critical thinking and openness are all welcome, as is a desire to just enjoy the show!"

More: An interview with Erika Lust, erotic filmmaker and mother

So what exactly is feminist porn? Tristan Taormino, a sex educator and co-editor of The Feminist Porn Book, defines feminist pornography as "porn that is generated in a fair manner, signifying that performers are paid a reasonable salary and, most importantly, treated with care and esteem; their approval, security and well-being are vital, and what they bring to the production is appreciated." The Awards is spread out over three days and includes such events as film screenings, Q&As with the actors or directors and a gala. Since feminist porn is still such a politically charged topic, Carlyle has said, "We believe that just the idea of feminist porn is inherently political and the Awards show is naturally subversive. We create a sexy, fun show that people can experience on whichever level they choose. ‎The overall message is about different kinds of sexy."

Though the feminist porn community is growing, it's still rather small in nature, with a small core of folks who work together. Carlyle tell us, "The Feminist Porn Awards are a great place to introduce new faces and works into the fold and to invite people to the conversation. It's an event that unites many people separated by geography or genre or reason for calling themselves feminist." More than anything, this event opens up people to new ideals of pornography and gives an inside view into the kinds of porn feminists feel good about watching. Carlyle and the rest of the staff at Good for Her are hoping attendees of the Awards will spread the word of ethical, feminist porn.

More: Getting in touch with your sexuality

So how can you support feminist porn without attending the Awards? Finding out who the artists are and supporting their work, including Erika Lust, Lily Cade, Queer Porn TV, Ms. Naughty and Jincey Lumpkin, to name a few. You can also start the dialogue and join the movement of folks who are learning about feminist porn, and share its forward-thinking and progressive elements with those who might not know about it. If you are located in Toronto, this year's Feminist Porn Awards will be held from April 15-17, 2015. Check out Good for Her's website for updates and information about the upcoming events.

15 Things I don't pay for anymore

$
0
0

Until recently, I had no true concept of how many different things a university charges for, not to mention the textbook market that they've cornered. You don't simply pay tuition, books, room and board.

No, you are also assessed a health center fee, "green" fee," technology fee, athletic fee, recreation fee, transportation fee, activity fee, "special institution" fee, lab fee, program fee, land fee, student facilities fee and parking fee.

You must outfit a dorm or an apartment, purchase requisite software (assuming your student has a laptop already, otherwise add that to the list, too), order football tickets, pay dues and fees for various clubs, perhaps get a bike, new headphones, bigger backpack, tiny refrigerator, awkward futon and an ample supply of contact paper and Solo cups.

At any rate, lessons learned and adjustments happily made.

DH and I took a hard look at the things we thought we could live without, make ourselves or cut back on. Some things that others are able to do away with were simply not up for discussion at our house … like cable. We (where we=DH) are not able to live without "our" four channels of EPSN and Law & Order/NCIS/King of Queens/MASH reruns.

And I (in this case "I" really does mean me) am not ready to give up my feminine hygiene products for the much-touted Diva Cup. I'm truly hoping that I'll find myself in Menopause World before I have to revisit that subject again.

There are, however, some things that we've easily, for the most part, been able to substitute or stop buying. Here are some examples from our "Don't Buy This Anymore" list:

1. I've become a pretty aggressive couponer and have resolved not to buy toothpaste, shampoo or deodorant unless I can get them for free or pennies. I stock up when I do find a good deal, and we have a good stockpile of that stuff now.

2. Cleaning supplies. I am learning how to clean with baking soda, lemon juice and vinegar. I use it for general cleaning, mirrors/windows, fabric softener, etc. I'm still a little hung up on cleaning toilets with Comet, but I'm making progress.

3. Magazine subscriptions. I'm a magazine hound and can't imagine not having one by my chair at all times. I will only pay for them using My Coke Rewards points, though.

I use the points from the 12-packs used to fill the machine at work and earn subscriptions. I also get subscriptions as gifts at holiday time. (Thanks, Mom!)

4. Envelopes. I save the envelopes that come with bills and junk mail and put an address label over the preprinted address/window. We don't use a ton of envelopes because we pay most of our bills online, but these still come in handy.

5. Frozen meals. Need I say more here?

6. Paper towels. I've started cutting up our old towels and putting a hem or binding on them to use in place of paper towels.

7. Laundry detergent. A couple of years ago, I started making my own laundry detergent — the powdered version — from a recipe I found on Pinterest. It has worked wonderfully and costs only a few pennies per load. I love it. Here's the mix I use.

8. Herbs.

Basil: I grow and dry enough basil in the summer to last all year.

Rosemary: I have a giant bush in a container on my porch that looks like a little Christmas tree. I use it all year long for seasoning. We also love to use the woody stems to skewer our shish kabobs.

Green onions: Once you've purchased the first two or three, you very seldom have to buy them again. After using the green tops, place the root end in a cup or jar of water on a windowsill or sunny spot. Those suckers will grow like weeds and you'll be able to cut fresh green onions every few days or so, and they'll keep coming back.

9. Jam/jelly. I've learned how to make and can jams and preserves over the last couple of years. We enjoy going to u-pick farms and I always try to put up a batch or two of whatever we get.

I made peach preserves, strawberry jam and applesauce this year. My latest is a batch of fig preserves I put up this weekend.

10. Landline. Still working on DH to eliminate our landline. I don't see the need for it; he doesn't think he can hear as well on a cell phone. What are your thoughts?

11. Bread. I've had a bread maker for a while. Now I've actually started using it.

The trick seems to be leaving the machine on the counter where it's easily accessible. I think our cost for a homemade loaf of fresh bread is about 45 cents! Tastes so much better and has no preservatives.

I'm looking for a good way to make the loaf last longer now. With just the two of us, it gets stale before we eat it all. I make breadcrumbs and croutons a lot!

12. Hand soap. I just learned that dissolving a bar of soap in hot water makes liquid hand soap. I love this one! I can usually get bars of soap for free with coupons.

13. Salad dressing. Tastes better. No preservatives. Better for you. I gained a ton of space in my refrigerator door as I eliminated our collection of opened salad dressing bottles. Boom.

14. Vanilla. I made homemade vanilla extract to give as Christmas gifts a couple of years ago. The flavor and intensity is so much better than the artificial kind and so much less expensive than the pure vanilla you get in the store, I'll never buy it again. The initial investment is well worth it.

15. Miscellaneous stuff. I love getting mail and especially love getting packages in the mail! I've combined this with our need to cut back on purchases by requesting free samples from companies.

I have a goal of emailing (free!) at least three companies that I like every week and requesting samples and/or coupons. More often than not, a well-written, meaningful email of praise (or complaint if you have a legitimate one) will result in a freebie.

Companies also promote new products with free samples all the time. Try visiting She SpeaksKraft First TasteFree Stuff Times and Hey, It's Free! All You magazine also hosts a Daily Free Sample calendar on its website.

You can also get free samples from your doctors (dentist, optometrist, dermatologist, etc.), from in-store promotions (warehouse clubs are good for this) and department store makeup and perfume counters. The lady at the perfume counter said the best times of year for this are a couple of weeks before Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.

I encourage you to think of things you don't need to buy anymore and create your own "Don't Buy Anymore" list. Have any great ideas you can share with us?

6 Reasons we don't need a She's All That remake

$
0
0

I mean, sure, the movie eventually reached No. 1 at the box office, but it wasn't a critical hit (the film currently has a 38 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and the film's use of tropes that were tired even in 1999 left audiences bored. I saw the movie when it came out, and even at 19, I could tell I was getting handed a recycled load of lazy BS about a woman's worth in the world, physical expectations and our cultural obsession with conformity.

More: #DropThePlus: Is being called plus-size empowering or an insult?

For those of you who don't remember the movie (or perhaps have never even seen it), She's All That centers on a cocky high-school jock (Freddie Prinze Jr.) who, after being dumped by his completely shallow girlfriend, bets his buddies that he can replace her with any of the girls at school. His best buddy (played by a young Paul Walker) one-ups his claim, challenging him to turn the nerdiest of the nerds into the prom queen. Walker's character then selects Laney Boggs, played by Cook, and Prinze tries not to faint at the seemingly oh-so-monumental task ahead of him.

Are you bored yet? Yeah, so am I, which is why I'd like to outline the reasons why we don't need yet another movie about an ugly duckling gal who only needs to take off her glasses and smear on some eyeliner to win the hot jock who couldn't be bothered to notice her before.

It's as unoriginal as it gets

My Fair Lady

Image: Warner Bros. Pictures

She's All That wasn't even an original concept when it was current. It's a '90s retelling of the classic 1913 play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw — a play that, by the way, has been retold countless other times already. Think My Fair Lady, Pretty Woman, Sabrina, The Princess Diaries, Miss Congeniality, Grease, Maid in Manhattan, My Big Fat Greek Wedding... the list is so long it makes my head spin. And many of these other ugly duckling films tackle the theme of awkward female transformation a lot better than this film did. So why spend money remaking a so-so version of a film hardly anyone remembers about this time-honored theme?

Glasses do not = ugly

My Super Ex-Girlfriend

Image: Myles Aronowitz/Regency Enterprises

In My Super Ex-Girlfriend (pictured above) Luke Wilson can't tell mousy Uma Thurman from superhero Uma Thurman because mousy Uma wears glasses and a brown wig (cue eye-roll) — puh-lease! I'm sorry, but if I see one more movie where all a woman has to do to look like a model is ditch her specs, I'll scream. I wear glasses, and when I take them off to put in my contacts, I do not automatically turn into a sexy goddess. Women who wear glasses aren't invisible, and the last thing we need is another movie in which contacts are the magic answer to all awkward-girl problems.

Beauty is more than skin deep

Grease

Image: Paramount Pictures

Listen, I love Grease every bit as much as all the other musical theater geeks out there do, but let's be honest about how messed-up the play/movie's message is. Here's Sandy, a super-cute, bubbly, sweet young woman who completely changes her look and her principals to bag hot John Travolta. I don't care if they get to sing "We go together, like rama lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong" in a flying car, changing who you are just to get someone else to love you is lame. It's also a really outdated message that most storytellers are trying to avoid in the refreshingly pro-women empowerment wave currently visible in Hollywood.

Cinderella, Cinderella, Cinderella

Cinderella

Image: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Perhaps one of the best movie transformations of all time was just remade, released, and well received — so why do we need to remake a meh '90s movie that is basically a lamer version of the beloved Cinderella tale? I mean, no prom dress is going to compare to the amazing ball gown Lily James just got to wear, and forget about outdoing Cinderella's glass slippers. If the goal of She's All That is to nab the hottie by dressing better and wearing lipstick, I've got to say, Cinderella already did it, and she did it better.

It's a terrible message to send to girls

She's All That before and after

Image: Miramax

This film's target demographic is teenage girls. Why then, when we are so aware of the importance of female empowerment and body acceptance (especially for young girls) would anyone think it's a good idea to make yet another movie completely invalidating recent body-positive "love yourself, embrace who you are" messaging by bundling the much less healthy "clothes (and contacts) make the woman" message dripping from this '90s relic?

Moving forward

The Duff

More: The DUFF's Bianca Santos: Why diverse characters are so important to young girls

Not to beat a dead horse, but She's All That and its endorsement of the ugly duckling trope feels dusty when compared to current trend-breakers like The DUFF, a film that manages to avoid most grimace-inducing teen movie clichés and instead opts for a more empowering message of self-acceptance. When you look at Rachael Leigh Cook's character compared to that of Mae Whitman's, there's no question which young woman is a follower and which one is a leader. And honestly, I'm much more interested in movies focusing on the latter.

But there have also been those who have continued to criticize Evans in the comment section of her post.

Taco Bell delivery is about to change your life

Somewhere out there, drunk college me is running in circles around her dorm room and crying tears of happiness (aka "trying to not pass out before the food gets here").

Finally we might be able to enjoy all of Taco Bell's increasingly insane offers (Cap'n Crunch donut holes, anyone?) in the comfort of our own homes.

taco bell donut hole

taco bell donut hole

This will come in especially handy when you're desperate to try the new Doritos Locos Steakum'Splosion Breakfast Torpedo — or whatever tasty monster they've come up with — but are too embarrassed to actually go through the drive-thru (or, God forbid, to the inside counter) to order.

It would also be an amazing way to feed a crowd when your next dinner party turns into a late-night affair. Once everyone has enough chard, you know they'll be hankering for a Burrito Supreme.

And slumber parties? Check. No longer will you waste precious minutes of your life turning over individual pizza rolls halfway through cooking time, only to have them explode all of their filling onto the baking sheet anyway. The kids will be just as happy with some cheesy Taco Supremes and nachos, leaving you free to sit in your darkened bedroom, watching The Bachelor on the lowest volume and praying that none of the kids has a weak stomach after eating all that fast-food ground beef.

Taco Bell is serious about getting its delivery service right, so it may be a while before it's available everywhere. They need to check important things, like how long a burrito can stay warm, a hard taco stay crunchy and their drunken customers stay awake while waiting for their food. But hopefully it will find out soon, because I could really use a shame-free Chalupa right about now.

Bruce Jenner’s Diane Sawyer interview: 7 Things we know so far

1. The elephant in the room will be addressed

We've all been hearing the rumors about Bruce Jenner being transgender for two years now. Is he or isn't he? We're hearing that Bruce will let the cat out of the bag and talk about how he is transitioning to live as a woman.

2. The Kardashians have fled the country

Kim and Khloé Kardashian, along with Kanye and North West, landed in Armenia today for a trip that will definitely take them out of the glaring American paparazzi limelight for a bit. Kourtney Kardashian and Bruce's ex, Kris Jenner, are thought to be joining them. The trip has been planned since January, but we're hearing that Bruce has been filming for the ABC special since then, too.

More: Bruce Jenner's latest career decision shows he's putting his kids first

3. None of the Kardashians will be on it

Bruce's children from his pre-Kris marriages, including his sons Burt, Brody and Brandon Jenner, plus Bruce's mom (who previously spoke to tabloids about that big rumor) will all talk with Sawyer, but none of the Kardashian women or Kendall or Kylie Jenner agreed to go on camera — nor did Kris.

4. Expect him to spill about his marriage to Kris

Bruce will talk about how he told Kris — and his other exes — that he wants to live as a woman, and what her reaction was. Kris will not appear on the special, but she and the rest of the Kardashian clan are expected to throw their support behind him publicly via social media.

5. Bruce won't be "Bruce" anymore

Bruce already has a new name picked out for his new life as a woman — but we won't learn what it is on the ABC special. Will he go with another B name like his sons, or a K name like his daughters? Or will he branch out to a whole new letter entirely? Perhaps he will give us at least a hint.

More: Kendall Jenner's touching comment about her father's transition might be fake

6. We won't see Bruce dress as a woman

Bruce will talk about his transition and the steps he is taking to live as a woman, including surgeries, but he will not appear dressed as a woman on camera.

7. It's less about the outside and more about the inside

The show will stress the mental and emotional journey Bruce is going through with this life-altering decision, and dwell less on the physical aspects of the change.

Bruce Jenner's two-hour special airs April 24 on ABC.

Men's perception of beauty isn't what you think

$

Leigh set-out to ask men what they deemed physically beautiful and asked them questions about female figures, body and facial features, and weight. Shockingly enough, most men said they didn't have a preference. Hard to believe, but according to this survey, it's true. The big thing that came up time and time again was that men wanted someone who embraced their own unique beauty and loved themselves. Sounds easy enough, but is it?

As women, we pick up so many mixed messages each and every day from the media, from family, from friends — hell, from everywhere we turn. It's like a wall of noise we just can't ignore. Sometimes it's hard to turn off the negative self-talk others have forced upon you and to focus on the most important person in the picture — you!

More: 4 Easy ways to promote inner well-being

If Leigh is claiming that men are just looking for a woman who embraces and loves her own unique beauty, then maybe it's time to "block out the haters" and the internal hate (so to speak). So when you wake up in the morning and look at yourself in the mirror, apply kindness to yourself. This can be as simple as applying your favourite lipstick, taking a selfie of your awesome hair day or just internally sending yourself the message, "I'm fierce, flawless and beautiful." Or write down some of the most common negative thoughts you've had about yourself, and then write affirmations to counteract those thoughts. It's true, we all have good and bad body days, and sometimes applying this kindness to ourselves can be more difficult to do than on other days. But guess what? It's totally normal.

More: Secrets to having a positive body image

The biggest thing to take away from all this is the following: You are beautiful, and you are a confident being. No matter what colour your hair is, the size of your waist or what your skin looks like, you're a unique individual, and that is what makes you beautiful. As soon as you drop the insecurities about yourself and embrace your beauty in its whole form, that is when you'll notice your true power. The power to rework negative thought patterns, and the power to create a kinder, gentler environment for yourself.

In the words of RuPaul, "If you don't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?" I never really stopped to think about the advice Mama Ru was dishing out on her show, RuPaul's Drag Race, but it's probably some of the most honest and sage advice one person can give to another.

Cotton Candy Oreos: What do they actually taste like?

$

I have to admit, I was a serious doubter when I heard the news that the beloved Oreo cookie was coming out with a new cotton candy-like flavor. I mean, red velvet and pumpkin spice I can definitely get on board with. And while I absolutely love cotton candy, it didn't seem like the best option for the next great cookie. But am I wrong?

Cotton Candy Oreos

The colors of the Cotton Candy Oreo are obviously striking. The mix of pink and blue was absolutely genius, and it gives the cookie a true cotton candy look. Who doesn't remember being a kid at carnivals and having a very strong opinion about which color was your favorite (blue forever!). When it comes to the Oreos, though, do they stand up to the taste test?

To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan. They tasted odd to me. I can't quite describe it, but I definitely got a crazy sugar rush when eating one. Although they weren't my favorite, many of my co-workers said the cookies tasted better with a second try.

In our (semi) official taste test, the cookie received a 2.8 out of 5. It seems that not many thought it was "fantastic" but more middle of the road. Comments ranged from "too different from original" to "strange" to "tastes great!" to "odd but enjoyed it." Probably the most accurate comment was "OK, but wouldn't choose it over other flavors."

So there you have it! The cookies, available exclusively at Target, have not been the instant success as some past flavors. But don't take our word for it! Try them yourself, and then tell us what you think in the comments below.

Mom lights daughter on fire

The police were called to the Sacramento, California, home of 27-year-old Porche Wright after her friend discovered the injured girl. When the officers arrived, they transported her little girl to the hospital, where she was treated for severe burns, and Wright was placed under arrest.

The detectives and fire inspectors checked out the scene and the child's grave injuries. A statement from the Sacramento Police Department states, "It is believed that the child's injuries are consistent with a flammable liquid that was placed on the victim and set on fire."

While the girl was severely injured, she is expected to survive. Unfortunately while the exact nature of her injuries hasn't been reported yet, witnesses did say that the skin of her face was peeling off. Neighbors also report that Wright often yelled at her child and didn't seem to be a very good mom.

Despite the horrific circumstances of Wright's alleged crime, her mother has come to her defense, according to CBS Sacramento. She said that her daughter has been very depressed lately but didn't seem like the type to set her kid on fire. She was also quoted as saying that Wright was a good mom and that she has taken care of her little girl the best she can.

Somehow I doubt that is true. Yes, we all have our own struggles as we parent our kids, but even the most stressed-out, depressed mother doesn't usually set her child on fire. My heart breaks for this poor kid and what she's had to endure at the hands of her mother, and what she will continue to endure as she recovers from her injuries.

Wright is being held without bail on charges of attempted murder and felony child abuse.

Taylor Swift pushed her mom for medical tests that may have just saved her life

The "Blank Space" singer posted some bad news on Tumblr today — her mother, Andrea, has been diagnosed with cancer.

"This is something my family and I thought you should know about now," Swift wrote. "For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine. She agreed, and went in to get checked. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it."

More: John Mayer talks about Taylor Swift in a surprisingly mature way

"The results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know."

"She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle… Or peace of mind in knowing that they're healthy and there's nothing to worry about," she explained. "She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She's got an important battle to fight."

More: We love how Taylor Swift responded to rumors of a feud with Lorde

"Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you. I hope and pray that you never get news like this," Swift finished.

The singer and her mother enjoy an especially close relationship, with Swift even writing the song "The Best Day" to honor her. It's wonderful that Swift cares so much for her mom that she pushed her to get checked, and that her mom cares so much about her that she did it — because health issues just cannot be put off. It very well may have saved her life.

We wish her the best in her battle against this terrible disease.

Crispy Buffalo ranch chicken nuggets are a healthier substitute to wings

In this recipe, I made a much healthier version without sacrificing the wonderful flavors everyone loves. Rather than deep-frying the chicken, I baked bite-size pieces of chicken breast that I marinated in spicy wing sauce and ranch dressing.

Giving the chicken a light coating in both Italian-style and panko breadcrumbs yields that crispy crunch, and a hearty grating of fresh Parmesan cheese adds an extra boost of flavor.

These spicy Buffalo chicken bites are great for satisfying your guilty pleasures without wrecking your diet or healthy eating habits. To make a healthier, low-calorie ranch dip, simply combine powdered ranch with a little bit of plain Greek yogurt and a drizzle of hot sauce on the top.

Spicy baked Buffalo ranch chicken nuggets recipe

Chicken breast is diced and marinated in Buffalo sauce and ranch dressing, then coated in panko crumbs and baked until crispy, golden brown for a healthier take on wings.

Serves 6

Prep time: 15 minutes | Inactive time: 30 minutes | Bake time: 20 minutes | Total time: 1 hour 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 large chicken breasts, diced
  • 1 cup buttermilk ranch salad dressing, plus more for dipping
  • 1/2 cup Frank's RedHot or other hot sauce
  • 1-1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • Fresh chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)

Directions:

  1. To a plastic zip-top bag, add the diced chicken, buttermilk ranch and the hot sauce.
  2. Close the bag, and shake to evenly coat all the chicken pieces. Chill for 30 minutes to marinate the chicken.
  3. Heat the oven to 375 degrees F, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. To a larger bowl, add the panko breadcrumbs, Italian-style breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese and seasonings, and mix well.
  5. Using tongs, carefully remove a few pieces of chicken from the bag, and drop them into the breadcrumb mixture, coating the chicken evenly. Repeat until all the chicken pieces are coated.
  6. Place the chicken in the oven, and bake for 20 minutes or until the chicken nuggets are crispy and a nice, golden brown color.
  7. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley, and serve warm with extra ranch dressing for dipping.

9 Things the new OITNB trailer tells us about Season 3 (VIDEO)

We last left Litchfield as management changed hands and all hell was breaking loose. After months of wondering what could possibly happen next, Netflix has finally given us a sneak peek of what's to come. Check it out.

Orange is the New Black Season 3 Trailer

Orange is the New Black Season 3 Trailer

What? Let's watch it 10 more times and break down what we've learned.

1. Everyone is more relaxed without Vee

What an irredeemable mess she was. How refreshing to see Cindy, Taystee, and Poussey goofing off instead of fearing for their lives under Vee's control. Sorry not sorry she seems to be gone.

2. They kicked Morello off welcome-wagon duty and passed the keys to…

Pennsatucky? Oh dear. After the events of the last episode, it's not really a surprise that Morello the Stalker was relieved of her chauffeur's cap. We're guessing Doggett's dry welcome won't involve wedding magazines and toothbrushes à la her sun-shiny predecessor.

3. Alex is back

And apparently confused about how she landed herself back behind bars. Oh, Piper. This could get awkward. Why is she crying in the bathroom? And punching a newcomer right in the face? Can it be June 12 now, please?

4. There will be at least two new faces

Lori Petty (who receives Alex's aforementioned punch) joins the cast as Lolly, who seems pretty impressed by Litchfield's clean walls upon arrival. We also get a few glimpses of Ruby Rose looking super-hot, but no further hints about what havoc she is sure to wreak.

5. We might finally get some Nichols backstory

We know she's a heroin addict whose mother had enough of her, but so far we don't know how everyone's favorite wisecracking inmate landed herself in Litchfield.

6. Crazy Eyes gets creative

Because who else would write erotica — forgive me, a love story — about group love between humans and aliens? She's another lady I am thrilled to see no longer under Vee's despicable thumb.

7. Daya and Bennett are not on a break

Though his confession to Caputo fell on deaf ears, it appears Daya is ready to forgive Bennett for not stepping up sooner. But where in the world is Pornstache? Surely he's not going to take this all sitting down.

8. Something went down between Gloria and Sophia

Ooooh, you guys. This might be what I'm most excited about learning. What could Sophia have done to elicit a death threat from Gloria? Boo's haircut wasn't that bad.

9. Red gets real with Piper

Piper has been on the receiving end of more than one stern lecture in her months as an inmate, but here we see Red give her a much-needed wake-up call. No news yet on the just as much-needed slap upside the head, but we'll keep you posted.

The trailer focused fully on the women of Litchfield, leaving us wondering what Caputo and Healy are up to. Will things finally change and the nonstop drama cease now that Fig is out of the picture? Man, I hope not.

Mary Kay Letourneau's marriage isn't some beautiful 'love story'

$

0

The Letourneau-Fualaau affair started when the two met in school. But not in the way we might hope. And Letourneau, then a married mother of four, chose to continue the affair, bearing two children from the teenager and eventually going to jail for him for seven and a half years. Amazingly they stayed together, and now, a decade later, are going to be on ABC April 10 to discuss their relationship and 10-year marriage.

"I don't think there's ever a full 10 good years of marriage. You have your ups and downs in marriage," Fualaau, now 31, says in the interview with Barbara Walters. "But, you know, what matters is how you pull through all the bad times."

It's so easy to fall into a lull and believe every word they say, right? I mean, he's right. Marriage is hard work, and they have made it now for almost 20 years, and he is an adult, and the two share two children. That is how I felt yesterday afternoon for a little while. Maybe their marriage really is the real deal. Maybe they had a love that really can last.

And then I remembered that he was 13 — 13. My own son will be 13 in six and a half short years. He is halfway there right now. In those six and a half years, he has gone from a helpless babe to a first-grader who loves handcuffs and wants to be a cop, but he is also still a baby for all intents and purposes. And I imagine in the same number of years I will still view him as such. He is my child. His sisters are also my children, and I love them fiercely. God help the predator who touches any of them. But I don't distinguish between boys and girls in my life. I am their mom. And a 34-year-old preying on my child, whether male or female, is still a rapist.

It's crazy to think we are supposed to forget what she did. We are supposed to somehow believe they were just two fools in love. Despite the fact that he was a child and she was an adult. Despite the fact that she was a married woman. Despite the fact that she had four children who must bear incredible shame because of what their mother did.

She did serve her time. That's true. But she is a registered sex offender and will always be one. She brought a child from sixth grade to fatherhood. She ruined any chance he had of innocence and a normal adolescence full of dating and prom and college and marriage to a girl his own age. She forced him into an adult world no 13-year-old is ready for no matter how much the media makes us believe otherwise.

So let's switch the roles. Let's imagine Mary Kay is a married 34-year-old man and Vili his 13-year-old student. Let's imagine that they got together, and all was the same. Would we say, "Aww, they were just two crazy kids in love. Let's forgive them"? Or (and much more likely) would we say, "This is wrong. So very wrong"?

So why can't we see it's the same for a boy too?

I won't be watching this interview. I won't be celebrating that she ruined a childhood. She paid for her crime, and they married when he was free and clear to do so. But it was always wrong. It is still wrong. To smile and say "all is forgiven" seems ooky. If they want to live their lives, fine, but why do it publicly? Why put it in our faces? They are not heroes of marriage. She is a rapist. She will always be one.

Here is a video of them from 10 years ago:
