More: 5 Reasons why Jill and Jessa Duggar hate each other

The couple revealed their fourth child was going to be a girl on Instagram, but that news was quickly overshadowed by a heated abortion debate that followed when the expectant parents posted a controversial PSA.

"Every day in America, thousands of little girls just like ours suffer pain from abortion," Anna Duggar starts by saying, holding a strip of ultrasound images of their unborn child.

"Help save babies' lives," Josh Duggar chimes in, encouraging people to contact their local member of Congress to encourage them to support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.

Their comments immediately spurred an online debate.

"You are completely clueless," one commenter said on Instagram. "Majority of abortions are done in the first trimester. Scientific studies have shown the fetus does not feel pain whatsoever until past the 20th week. If everyone popped out 20 kids by age 30 like the people in your cult do then abortions would be mandatory due to overpopulation. Way to contribute to the problem!"

More: Jessa Duggar attacked by pro-choice advocates on Instagram

Another added, "There are many reasons people have abortions. Rape, incest, unexpected pregnancy, major complications that would harm the mother and the child more than an abortion would, etc. I support pro-choice because no one can tell a woman what she can and cannot do to her own body."

Others had even harsher sentiments, "Please if these people figure out a way to get rid of abortions (it'll never happen) Anna will start posting pictures of sperm with the caption 'no sperm should ever be turned away' lolol. They're against contraception too..."

According to the company's website, the act, if passed, would provide legislation "essential to stopping late abortions. It would also help stop so-called doctors, like the now-imprisoned Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who are willing to allow babies be born alive to more easily kill them if the abortion doesn't work."

The bill would enact legislation that would ban abortions after the 20-week mark, when fetuses reportedly develop the ability to feel pain.

Josh Duggar, who is the oldest child of the 19 Kids and Counting reality show family, works as an executive director of FRC Action, the legislative arm of the Family Research Council, which E! Online described as a "Christian public policy ministry and pro-life group."

More: Jana Duggar reportedly cut from an entire episode, but why?

Planned Parenthood, on the other hand, is fighting to see the proposed bill defeated.

"Access to reproductive health care has completely changed life for women in America," Planned Parenthood Action Fund president, Cecile Richards, said, according to the Huffington Post. "Politicians who are trying to erase women's progress are on the wrong side of history."

Do you support a 20-week ban on abortions?

What teen moms want you to know about 'the talk'

$

#NoTeenShame speaks about the importance of supporting and encouraging pregnant and parenting teens to reach their goals in life while also advocating for comprehensive sexual health education that can help reduce unintended teenage pregnancies.

Having "the talk" with our children can be a nerve-wracking experience that is both necessary and very important in shaping the ways in which our children approach the topic of sex and sexuality. The seven mothers of #NoTeenShame believe in the importance of having "the talk" and not shaming or stigmatizing teenage parenthood in the process.

SheKnows: What should parents focus on when talking to their children about sex and relationships?

#NoTeenShame: First, parents need to realize that a big part of "the talk" is not actually verbal. Parents need to be establishing a safe and comfortable relationship with their children prior to ever talking about sex with them. "The talk" is an ongoing conversation so establishing safe and healthy environments often is necessary. Your kids need to know and feel that they can come to you with questions. Focus on answering questions asked as close to family and cultural values while not leaving out the medically accurate responses young people need. Instead of saying, "Don't be a teen parent because it's terrible and will ruin your life," give them answers to the direct and indirect questions they are asking.

SK: #NoTeenShame discusses the importance of sexual health education. How do you think we, as a country, are doing in terms of sexual health education for our youth?

#NTS: As a country, we absolutely are not doing enough to educate youth about sexual health. Sexual health education is about so much more than just the part about what "our genitals do together," it's about relationships, emotional health, physical health and sexual health. The rates of STD/STIs in young people are off the charts. While teenage pregnancy rates are at some of the lowest rates we've had as a country in decades, the rates of diseases our young people are contracting are going up. While many states still have abstinence-only education, many states still lack a clear definition and example of what medically accurate, inclusive and shame-free comprehensive sex education looks like. That is a major problem.
As parents, we have to advocate for comprehensive sex education because our children need it.

SK: Do you feel that sex education and conversations about teenage pregnancy prevention need to go hand in hand? In other words, does society have to talk about teenage pregnancy and parenting in order to talk about sex education?

#NTS: Teenage pregnancy prevention is part of the sex education conversation, but the ways in which teenage pregnancy and parenting are discussed needs to be in a shame- and stigma-free way. Teenage parents are humans and families and should be treated as such, not as purely cautionary tales to use in an effort to scare your children about sex and relationships. Sex education is a lot of things, however, it is about preventing STIs, HIV and unintended pregnancies in addition to discussing sexuality, healthy relationships and explorations of what readiness means to you.

SK: What is "explorations of readiness"?

#NTS: "Explorations of readiness" is identifying and understanding what and when you are ready to do certain things. Sex is not a passive act; it is a very active act and therefore we need to discuss what, how and when we are ready to do certain sexual acts with other people. As adults, a lot of us are missing this and many youth do not even know about it. Fear and noneducation are not and cannot continue to be a poor substitute for sex education and sexual readiness.

SK: How can parents fill in the gaps of what sex education in schools are not teaching?

#NTS: Be honest, be open and foster the environment and relationships that say, "You can talk to me" when it comes to your kids. Also remember that "the talk" is an ongoing conversation that you will have several times. Oh! And it is OK to not have all of the answers right away. If your child asks a question that you do not know the answer to or are not sure how to answer at the time, buy yourself some time by saying, "I'm not sure. I'll get back to you on that" and actually get back to them with a response.

After sustaining an injury during the production of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars that delayed production, the actor was again hurt in a scary plane crash today. And it wasn't his first. The longtime pilot has reportedly been in three accidents since he first started flying planes.

Luckily, he walked away from this one, like all the others, and will apparently be just fine.

Once news that the actor was in good health broke, the jokes began on Twitter and it's hard not to admit just how hilarious they are, though it might be too soon. The crash just happened a few hours ago, after all.

Nick Gordon's mom made a shocking claim about Whitney Houston's death

More: The Brown family is planning to exploit Bobbi Kristina on new reality show

During an interview with Dr. Phil, Bobbi Kristina's boyfriend, Nick Gordon, and his mother shared some stories that don't make any sense at all.

Nick's mom, Michelle, reportedly told the TV host that Nick was with Whitney Houston the night she died, in February of 2012, and that he found her unconscious and tried to administer CPR.

"As we sit here right now, my son's life hangs in the balance," Michelle said. "When Whitney was found, he administered CPR to her and called me as he was standing in front of her, saying, 'Mom, why couldn't I do it? I couldn't get air into her lungs.' He won't let go of the guilt."

More: Nick Gordon "desperate" to visit Bobbi Kristina, but will the family allow it?

But that claim doesn't make any sense. According to the autopsy report, Whitney was found Feb. 11, 2012, facedown in a bathtub full of water at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The report also says she was found by her assistant and bodyguard, who pulled her out of the water and asked hotel staff to call 911.

That isn't the only weird thing about the upcoming Dr. Phil interview, which is set to air March 11.

According to Extra, the interview will also serve as an intervention of sorts for Nick, who reportedly tells Dr. Phil about his mental anguish, guilt and panic attacks he's suffered since Whitney died and since Bobbi Kristina, his longtime girlfriend, was found in a similar manner: facedown and unconscious in a bathtub in her Atlanta, Georgia, home.

Bobbi Kristina has been hospitalized and kept in a medically induced coma in Atlanta since the incident. Tensions have been apparent between Nick and Bobbi Kristina's family and Nick has been unable to visit Bobbi Kristina in the hospital. Conflicting reports have claimed it's because the family won't let him, while others have said it's because he doesn't want to or refused to follow conditions set forth by Bobbi Kristina's father, Bobby Brown.

More: The more Nick Gordon speaks out, the worse we feel for him

What do you think is up with Nick Gordon's mom's confusing claims? Do you think there's any way Nick could have been with Whitney when she died? Or are you just as baffled by this interview as we are? Head down to the comments and tell us what you think.

Party Down South: You won't believe what Daddy did behind the scenes this week

$

After taking a few shots from Daddy's special bong (amazingly, that's not quite as perverse as it sounds), new girl, Hott Dogg, is primed and ready for her inaugural barhopping experience with her PDS housemates.

Walt, who spent much of last week's episode gawking at Hott Dogg, feels confident that if anyone has the game to bang the new girl, it's him. Fast-forward to five minutes later in the cab as he grimaces in pain and says, "God, I gotta shit so bad right now," and, shortly after, "I just shit my pants."

As always, Murray — the big, hairy Yoda of the gang — sums the situation up perfectly: "What? What?!" Like, seriously, Walt. What?!!

Tiffany and Lauren think Walt's cab shart is the funniest thing ever, particularly when it affords them the opportunity to watch him run into the bar bathroom squeezing his butt cheeks together.

Amazingly, and I'm not sure if this is a testament to his fortitude or a serious question of hygiene, Walt emerges from the bathroom once again ready to put the moves on Hott Dogg. "A little bit of brown stain is not going to stop me from getting in there," he says.

He makes his way towards Hott Dogg, who isn't sure if she is digging him or Daddy more. She likes how manly Walt is, which I'm pretty sure she doesn't realize includes actually rockin' a skid while hitting on her.

There's something about Daddy, though, she says. She references his tan and my suspicions are confirmed — Hott Dogg is a Jersey Shore soul trapped in a Southern girl's body.

Tiffany muses that she thinks Hott Dogg is trying entirely too hard and I'm not sure about that, but I sure like the way Tiff chews on the word "entirely." It's cute, y'all.

The rest of the bar visit passes in a blur of Daddy arm wrestling, Lyle doing body shots and the girls shaking it on the dance floor.

Walt breaks out some dance moves to try to woo Hott Dogg, although he isn't impressed with her dancing skills. "Honey, you could definitely use a lesson or two." Sayeth the dude who shat his pants.

Daddy doesn't mind that Walt is moving in on Hott Dogg, because he likes to toss his hot dog at Tiffany, if you catch my drift. Wink, wink.

After Tiff manages to drag Mattie from the bar, the entire crew piles into their cabs and heads back to the house. But, you know, plus vomit. Lots of vomit.

Hott Dogg, who is not impressed, astutely notes, "They're wasted on a whole 'nother level."

Lauren tucks Tiff in, Mattie passes out on the floor and Lyle passes out in a watermelon. Like, for real. All up in it. "I was raised in the South — I never waste food," he says, and ain't that the truth. No doubt, his parents are proud in this moment.

Daddy crawls in bed with Tiff and tries to "baby girl" her into having sex with him, but she is too drunk and too tired for that nonsense.

According to SallyAnn Salsano, 495 Productions president and founder and creator/executive producer of Party Down South, it's tough to pinpoint which housemate was, in fact, the most inebriated that night.

"You know, it's hard to say," she told us. "It depends on the hour. Lyle... or was it Daddy? Then, Mattie and Walt. Less drunk (and in no particular order) were Tiffany, Hott Dogg, Murray and Lauren."

The next morning, the crew makes the most of the rainy weather by taking a redneck bath in the pool. Hott Dogg lathers her ass with soap in the rain and even Murray is ready to "chew on" her booty.

Later, they head out to the mud races, but that adventure is cut short by some seriously awry weather.

"The mudding event was cut short because there was torrential, biblical-proportion-type rain," explains Salsano. "The production ruined a lot of valuable equipment trying to keep up with the cast in the rain."

On the way back, Walt strips down in the car to dry out and Tiff reveals some pretty pertinent info: "I'm not really fond of Walt's penis. It could be bigger. So could Murray's." Notice she failed to mention the size of Daddy's goods?

The highlight of the episode, though, proves to be when Daddy decides to get down on one knee and propose to Tiff... with Murray's penis ring. Yep, you read that right.

When she refuses to place the penis ring on her finger, Daddy decides to mourn by trying to bang Lauren and by tossing anything that isn't bolted down over the balcony into the pool.

Don't worry, though — he wasn't too heartbroken and he likely has yet to call it quits on his quest to bed Tiff, either.

Says Salsano, "Daddy was not legitimately hurt by Tiffany's rejection of his proposal. He would cuddle/bang/marry/pretzel most any girl! That being said, I think he thinks Tiffany is pretty special... she's up there to be Mrs. Daddy."

Lo and behold, though, his penis ring proposal wasn't the most shocking stunt Daddy pulled that night.

"After Daddy threw all the furniture into the pool, he and Murray went swimming among the debris," reveals Salsano, sharing that Daddy also "accidentally" peed in the ladies' room at the club that night, joking, "At least he used the plumbing!"

But that's not all. Brace yourselves, people.

"After Tiffany said no to Daddy's proposal with Murray's man jewelry," says Salsano, "Daddy 'turned it up to eleven' by popping the genital jewelry into his mouth."

And this is only week two. Hell to the yes, y'all. Hell to the yes. Here's to next week!

Will My School improve our education system?

$
0
0

The My School website was updated this week, with information added about the most recent NAPLAN test results from more than 9,500 schools.

Along with the literacy and numeracy results, information also extended to demographics, attendance rates and finances of public, private and Catholic schools, and information about students who identify as indigenous.

"Importantly, this year's website release now includes seven years of data for parents that can be compared with other schools to ensure they have the most up-to-date information available to make informed decisions about their children's education," minister for education and training, Christopher Pyne, said in a media release on Friday.

The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), which operates the My School website, also released findings from a study about how My School is received by the public, based on interviews and research conducted with principals and parents.

While some parents said they used the website to get a head start when it comes to choosing a school for their children, others questioned whether the site was a reliable enough source on which to base a decision.

The NAPLAN test results were one thing that came under question, with both parents and principals worried the results didn't give an accurate picture of schools, especially if specific "coaching" exercises were emphasised instead of following the curriculum. In some cases, it has even been reported that schools have told certain students to stay at home on test day because they might bring down the school's score.

Others claim that the system promotes competition between schools and it is seen as more of a marketing and advertising boost for those that do well in certain areas.

According to the research, it seems parents welcome having the information available in a centralised location, because it can assist in navigating the education system when looking for a suitable school for their children.

But the worry is that the system doesn't actually support the education system, but rather focuses on key areas and specific outcomes, which schools focus on in order to receive a favourable score in the My School system, rather than keeping the focus on the education of children.

9 Ways American Crime is the most unique show on TV right now

$
0
0

American Crime is quite possibly the most unique show on television period, thanks in part to these nine major elements.

1. There are no white people problems

American Crime

There are white people on this show, but their problems don't come remotely close to those that are usually classified as "white people problems." In place of those are hardcore issues like drug addiction, manufacturing and trafficking, the struggle to make ends meet, violent crime, prostitution and being arrested for murder. This show makes your problems seem infinitely small by comparison.

More: Secrets and Lies: Ryan Phillippe gets crucified by the media Gone Girl style

2. There are no superheroes

You know, unlike what sometimes seems like every other show on television.

3. There is absolutely no "lifestyle porn"

American Crime

I love that palatial mansion of Emily Thorne's on Revenge, and Derek and Meredith's house in the woods on Grey's Anatomy makes me want to buy an umbrella and move to Seattle. But nothing about American Crime makes me want to even visit Modesto, California — where the show is set — let alone move there. This isn't The Real Housewives of Nodayjob County. The shambolic and rundown places American Crime's characters live in will make you appreciate all of your Ikea furniture.

4. There don't appear to be any romantic relationships that will spark a fandom

If you're looking to "ship" a couple, change channels to the CW or tune into ABC's TGIT because American Crime can't help you.

5. This isn't one of those dramas that has comedic elements

You know how there's that big debate about whether or not Orange Is the New Black and Shameless should be categorized as dramas or comedies? No one is going to have that debate where American Crime is concerned. And you know how on some of the procedurals, like Castle or Bones, sometimes the characters say something sarcastic or throw a joke in every now and then? Yeah, that doesn't happen on this show. This is a gritty drama that has all of about zero light-hearted moments. I can't even be sure I saw a character crack a smile during the show's premiere.

6. Race doesn't seem to dictate who has money and who doesn't

American Crime

Everyone we've seen so far seems to come from a low socio-economic background. Felicity Huffman's character makes mention of the fact that she and her two sons were the only white people in the council housing in which she lived, making it clear that race is definitely something American Crime will explore, but what will be particularly intriguing about that exploration is that it appears class division won't be a factor.

More: 96 New TV shows in 2014-2015: Watch all the shows!

7. It will not spark a conversation about the amazing clothes the characters are wearing

One of the best things about Scandal is Olivia Pope's outfits — the coats, the gloves, the pantsuits. But American Crime won't make you look for any of the characters' wardrobe stylings; instead, you'll just be grateful you don't have to wear the same weathered desperation and struggle each of the characters dons in every scene.

8. There is absolutely nothing about it that will make you feel warm or hopeful

American Crime

Jane the Virgin, Modern Family and Parenthood all make you feel good even as they weather storms. American Crime is not the kind of show that will restore your faith in humanity or leave you feeling uplifted. It will do the exact opposite and it won't do it in a way that trades on shock value (like thrillers such as Scandal or How to Get Away with Murder). It will be subtle and it won't make it look pretty or appealing.

9. The city it's set in is not an extra character

American Crime

As much as it's a cliché to make a city an extra character, it's never not appreciated when every single show set in New York shows me the skyline from one vantage point or another. I love how shows set in Los Angeles make use of that amazing sun cascading through what seem to be endless palm trees. But Modesto is not another character on American Crime. The landscapes used on the show are incredibly barren, making the city look hard-worn, mirroring the struggles of each of the show's characters.

More: 7 Things to know about Ruby Rose before she joins Orange Is the New Black

I tell you all this not to make you skip it, but to share the realness of it. American Crime is real life. It's like Shameless, Breaking Bad and all those eerily true-to-life cop dramas rolled into one. There are characters worth rooting for, though. No matter how bleak it gets, you'll still watch, with crossed fingers, that something will get better for at least someone... anyone.

Samantha Bee's feminist impact on The Daily Show will be a big loss

More: Jon Stewart single-handedly takes on Fox News and their lies (VIDEO)

The good news is that Bee is leaving because she has a deal to produce and host her own satirical news show on TBS. The bad news is that, without her, The Daily Show will be missing someone who helped it be at the forefront of the fight for feminism on television.

During her tenure on The Daily Show, Bee was the show's voice for feminism. Here are just a few examples:

She wasn't afraid to take on men

Samantha Bee 1

Samantha Bee 1

… and she frequently outwitted them. In the above interview with Peter Schiff, CEO of Euro Pacific Capital, he contends raising the minimum wage would mean fewer jobs. Without missing a beat, Bee replies, "Why have one job at $15 an hour, when I could have two jobs at $7 an hour?" She was never afraid to call things like she saw them, especially in the presence of powerful men like Schiff.

She worked hard to highlight important women's issues

Samantha Bee 2

Samantha Bee 2

My absolute favorite of Bee's work was the above segment on women in combat. She mercilessly mocked claims that women would distract their male counterparts and she brought to light other inequalities for women in the military, like how they can face serious consequences when they report sexual harassment or assault. Bee never stopped working to advance the conversation about equality for women — in the military, in other workplaces and elsewhere.

She took on uncomfortable, controversial subjects

Samantha Bee 3

Sure, everyone on The Daily Show regularly tackles the tough stuff. The difference is that Bee worked with a predominantly male staff. Instead of being intimidated by that, she met the challenge head-on and proved that she deserved to be there. How many men would get penis pumps stuck to their faces on TV to make a point? I don't know any.

Andy became a global ambassador for WWF last year and we're delighted he's encouraging as many people as possible to join him by getting involved, and sending a clear message that people care about our planet and want to see action to protect it."

"2015 is an important year for the environment," Banks continued, "With world leaders meeting in Paris in December to agree action to reduce emissions and protect people threatened by climate change, while here in Scotland we're looking to ensure our climate targets are met. Earth Hour is a great way for people to get on board and say they want to see it celebrated and protected."

Who is Owen Jones and why is he touring with Paloma Faith?

However, you probably haven't ever associated writer and commentator 30-year-old Owen Jones with pop music. Until now.

Jones has confirmed that he's opening for Paloma Faith on her upcoming shows in London and Brighton. He told Time Out that Faith "got in touch" and that they then went for coffee. He revealed that the Brit Award winner is "politically engaged, politically interested," and that she is "worried some of her fans are turning to UKIP."

Left-wing commentator is to support Paloma Faith on her upcoming tour

Faith's solution? Provide her fans with some left-wing political commentary before her performance.

"[Faith is] kind of interested in the old tradition, that used to be more commonplace in the '70s and '80s, of music and politics linking up," Jones added, before saying that he wants his opening slot to help the audience "leave with more hope than they entered" with.

"I want it to be upbeat," he said. "Nothing worse than if people were like, 'Oh blimey, some preachy pre-pubescent Macaulay Culkin lookalike is ranting at me about politics — this isn't what I signed up for.' I'm not going to patronise people."

More: How Paloma Faith made the Brit Awards 2015

Jones, who describes himself as a "4th generation socialist," is on the National Advisory Panel of the Centre for Labour and Social Studies, a left-wing think tank. His first book, Chavs: The Demonization of the Working Class, was long-listed for the Guardian First Book Award, and his second, The Establishment and How They Get Away With It, was published in September 2014.

Paloma Faith plays The Brighton Centre on March 12 and London's O2 Arena on March 25. The big question up for debate is what will her fans think of her interesting choice of support act?

10 Things married couples do that would horrify newlyweds

$
0
0

Before you get out the pitchforks and call me the Debbie Downer of the internet, just know that a comfortable marriage with more than a few miles on the odometer is not a bad thing. As the saying goes, marriage is like a fine wine that gets better with time. But as any experienced married couple can tell you, marriage also gets weirder with time as normal human boundaries go out the window.

Don't worry — you're still in love. You just have to adapt. And the best way to adapt to the natural changes in a marriage is to understand what awaits you.

If you were a fly on the wall, you would be shocked by 10 crazy things married couples do when no one is watching:

1. Eat in front of the TV

Dating

Image: giphy.com

If you're still having candlelit dinners whilst sipping wine as a newlywed, cherish it. Cherish it hard. Fast-forward just a few years, and you'll want nothing more than dinner on a TV tray while watching Netflix together. Now that's romantic.

2. Fart in bed

Smelly

Image: giphy.com

Inevitably, someone is going to accidentally or on purpose let one rip in the course of your relationship. If you're lucky, your partner will find it endearing, like this Redditor does, "She is always the little spoon and farts on my thighs. She giggles in her sleep when she does do it and pulls herself in closer to me."

3. Let it all hang out

Annoyed

Laws of physics dictate that you can only conceal your bad habits for two years in a new marriage, tops. After that window of time has expired, you're going to find out what your husband is really like — and how annoyingly loud he chews when he eats.

4. Make a chore chart

Fun

Image: giphy.com

There's nothing sexier than a chore chart with both of your names on it. Screw a marriage license — this is real commitment.

5. Pop each other's zits

Gag

Image: giphy.com

Hey — sometimes you need a hand with a blemish in a hard-to-reach place. That's what the love of your life is really for. Don't make it weird. Just don't tell your friends about it.

6. Publicly groom yourself

Stop

Image: giphy.com

Kiri Blakeley of CafeMom’s The Stir and Huffington Post Divorce calls this one of the worst pieces of marital advice: "Never clip your toenails in front of your husband." She says, "We live in a small one-bedroom. Like I'm gonna leave the room so I can clip my toenails? What will happen if he sees that? He's going to melt?"

7. Schedule sex

Sexy

Image: giphy.com

This can be the best and the worst part of a long-term relationship. On the one hand, you have sexy time to look forward to at 8 p.m. on Thursday after a long week of work. On the other hand, you have to work even harder to keep things fresh in between the sheets.

8. Sit for hours in silence

Shh

Image: giphy.com

This is one of the great perks of a long marriage that newbies just don't understand. There's something so soothing about sitting in comfortable silence for hours as you both watch Netflix on your respective laptops — without the need for that "tell me your hopes and dreams" chatter.

9. Talk about your bodily functions

Shock

Image: giphy.com

Try as you might to keep the magic in your relationship, someone needs to know that you have raging PMS and crippling cramps that may or may not cause you to act erratically for the next three to five days.

10. Talk through the bathroom door

Dealbreaker

Image: giphy.com

Once you've been married for a few years, kiss your bathroom privacy goodbye. Besides, how else are you going to confirm weekend plans until you get your husband trapped in one place?

7 Ways you're using dry shampoo all wrong

1. You're applying from the top to bottom

Au contraire! What you should be doing is starting from the bottom and sides of your hair and working up. This is a trick that Aussie celebrity hairstylist Sarah Potempa revealed to me at an event recently — I was thunderstruck. I always do the opposite... doh! While you're at it: "Always spray the underneath section of your hair to hide any residue, and to make sure you’re lifting from the root," Sarah says.

2. You're spraying it too close to your head

"When using dry shampoo, mist the root area about eight inches away from the scalp," says Jenny Balding, Cutler/Redken Stylist. "This way it won't become concentrated in one area."

3. You're not using enough

"People get scared to use too much," says Jenny. "But too little is ineffective also!" Don't be afraid of the spray! Spray away!

4. You're spraying and then betraying it

Once you spray it in, you have more to do, people. "The best way to apply dry shampoo is to spray the product onto the scalp, then shake hair aggressively with your hands to really work the product in," says Stacey Guerra, NYC's Butterfly Studio Salon senior stylist. "Brush the roots with a natural bristle brush to break up the oil in the root of the hair. Then move the brush side to side to create a natural tease and volume at the crown of the head."

5. You're giving up after you try one dry shampoo and don't like it

There are so many dry shampoos on the market now, says Stacey. "It's a trial and error process to find the one that is right for your hair and texture." For example, Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray (Oribe, $42) is Stacey's go-to for hair that needs a boost of volume and texture. She also recommends the Kerastase Powder Bluff (Kerastase Usa, $37) for light brown to blond hair, and people in need of tons of texture and volume plus anti-humidity and heat protection.

A great, affordable option for all hair types is Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two Day Extender & Oil Absorbing Dry Shampoo. (Ulta, $10)

6. You're only using dry shampoo when your hair is dirty

"Dry shampoo makes for a great styling product as well as giving your hair extra lift," says Sarah. She recommends the brand new Aussie Total Miracle 7N1 Dry Shampoo as a great texturizing product for undone 'dos, especially trendy, loose braids. (Drugstore.com, $6)

7. You're only using dry shampoo on your hair

Yes, you read that correctly. Two of Sarah's dry shampoo tricks: "Spray bobby pins so they won't slip," she says. "This will keep them secure in even the finest, straightest hair." Also: "Spray dry shampoo directly on your hairbrush to evenly distribute product."

While I've long admired (and also feared) her cats, this puppy's bringing new light into my life. I know that sounds overdramatic, but that's just what a quality puppy can do to me. And this, my friends, is a quality puppy.

Kelly — whom I've decided I'm on a first name basis with due to the fact that I look at all her Insta photos — brought home the Poodle/Sheepdog mix this January and has been posting ah-mazing photos ever since. Here's all you need to know about him before checking out these photos.

1. His name is Archie, which is a phenomenal dog name.

2. Despite not knowing that a Poodle/Sheepdog mix existed before this article, you're suddenly going to really want one.

3. His eyes are mesmerizing.

So with no further ado, check out my personal 10 favorite Archie photos. After that, do yourself a favor and follow @KellyOxford on Instagram to see even more. Because, as you will soon see, her photos are usually accompanied by the best captions.

John Mayer sounds arrogant while claiming he doesn't have a big ego (VIDEO)

More: Katy Perry, John Mayer were spotted doing something very exciting together

However, given his track record with high-profile women including Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston and Minka Kelly, we're not sure that anyone actually believes him. He was also previously quite happy to publicly dish about his sex life — remember when he compared sex with Simpson to "crack cocaine" during an interview with Playboy magazine? What a gentlemanly thing to do, right?

When Farrow asked if he thinks he's a womanizer, here's what Mayer had to say. "No, absolutely not. But when you're crafty and you're clever and you go, 'Well, I'm just going to be as strange as they think I am,' and then you lose... No. 1, you're not playing music anymore. No. 2, you're not feeling anything honestly. No. 3, you're not saying anything honestly."

More: John Mayer's exes moved on to better things — should Katy Perry?

In recent years, Mayer's career has not enjoyed the same amount of popularity, but whether he has his ego to blame for that is essentially your decision. Mayer does, however, say that in the past he was desperate for approval, and that's one of the reasons why he does not enjoy social media.

Speaking of his ego addiction, Mayer said, "I'm a recovered ego addict, and the only way that I can be sure that I don't relapse is to admit that I constantly have this ego addiction — every day. So, I do the Grammys and I go home, 'cause if I stayed, I'd get high again [on approval].

"You've already looked through Twitter, everybody goes, 'It's great,' and then you're low again because you can't stop looking. So, I'm a recovered ego addict," he added.

Do those comment sound to you like someone who no longer has an ego? We're not convinced, and we've noticed by the comments on his interview that we aren't the only ones. But then again, at least he's willing to admit he has an ego problem, which is probably not something that's easy to do.

#BriefMessage project takes on violence against women (PHOTOS)

Panties are so personal and intimate. They're just something we usually wad up tight and stuff to the bottom of the clothes hamper.

#BriefMessage

Much like the way society often treats issues of domestic violence, rape and other acts of violence against women.

#BriefMessage

Image: aleXsandro Palombo

Now they're being used as a symbol of strength, and the images are surprisingly intense and personal.

#BriefMessage

Image: aleXsandro Palombo

And the message is being heard loud and clear across the world in honor of International Women's Day.

#BriefMessage

Image: aleXsandro Palombo

Some of the messages are about women owning their own strength and power.

#BriefMessage

Image: aleXsandro Palombo

Others reject the idea that women are defined completely by what's between their legs.

#BriefMessage

Image: aleXsandro Palombo

Some women who participated in the project, which was originally held as a performance art event, used the opportunity to talk about how they plan to raise their sons to reject violence against women.

#BriefMessage

Image: aleXsandro Palombo

And to talk about how a woman can love a man without letting him own and control her.

#BriefMessage

Image: aleXsandro Palombo

Other women took the opportunity to be more direct.

#BriefMessage

Image: aleXsandro Palombo

Violence is an expression of weakness was a common theme.

#BriefMessage

Image: aleXsandro Palombo

It was also a good opportunity for women to show they are anything but weak.

#BriefMessage

And these women are ready to be heard.

#BriefMessage

Stand with these women in celebration of International Women's Day, and share your own #BriefMessage on social media. It's a powerful idea to help us all own what's underneath those underpants and to stand up for our sisters.

Babywearing and gun-carrying class trains parents to do both safely

$

In her blog, Limatune's Range Diaries, Lauer describes herself as a "wife, mother and woman with a gun." Part of her mothering involves babywearing, of which she is a staunch advocate. As a mother who routinely carries weapons while wearing her baby, she trains for the likely scenario that if she should ever confront an assailant, it will be with her baby attached to her body. She created the workshop to help parents like her learn the best way to prevent tragic accidents while protecting their family from harm.

While Lauer's workshop may seem risky to some — why teach people to have a gun near a child at all — it's actually just an extension of responsible gun ownership. If you own a weapon, you have an obligation to learn how to use it safely; otherwise you put yourself and others at risk. The police training motto "train how you fight" applies here perfectly — it would be wholly irresponsible to carry, wear and never practice doing both.

Babywearing at the gun range

Image: Sara Swartz

Lauer's workshop strictly trains with empty and "dummy" weapons, but some parents take their training a step further and bring their children with them to the range. Texas mom of five Sara, administrator for the Facebook group Babywearing for Plus-Sized Mamas and member of the babywearing, personal protection Facebook group Sheepdog Mamas, routinely wears her baby when she practices shooting. "We shoot monthly as a family. When going to the range, I dress the way I normally do, which is sneakers, jeans, a T-shirt and a baby on my back. I have been asked many times why I practice with a baby on my back. My response is always the same. I can't say 'time out, let me put my baby down' when there is a need to use my firearm."

Babywearing and bow hunting

Weapons practice while babywearing isn't limited to just gun owners either. Tara is mom to active twins and is an avid bow hunter. She and her husband routinely practice while wearing and have taken their kids with them while stump and turkey hunting. "Once they were about 8 months, we decided it was important they knew what hunting and trapping was," Tara said. "Wearing them frees up my hands. Not only that, but I know where they are, and we can move so much faster." Living in "bear country" as Tara does, that is a major consideration. She said her kids enjoy watching her shoot and even help by handing her next arrow to her. "Bow hunting takes work, and I want my kids to know what good, honest dedication means."

While most instructors will agree it is crucial to train in the manner you will likely engage an enemy, not all will tell you to take your baby with you to the range. "I don't think it's necessary," says firearms instructor Mark Luell of Growing Up Guns. "The mindset, skills, tactics and gear issues can be worked with dry-fire (training with unloaded weapons) in the home. Home is completely absent of the loud noise and traumatic environment that a gun range would be to an infant."

Mark sums up the training-to-carry-while-babywearing discussion perfectly: "The way in is training. Shaming mothers and fathers who have made the heavy decision to purchase firearms for their family's protection will discourage education and training. Lack of training and ignorance are what cause accidents… proper training and education is the only way." If you are a babywearing parent who also carries a weapon — a knife, pepper spray, stun gun, pistol, crossbow or even nunchucks — you have an obligation to train for scenarios involving babywearing. Anything else is irresponsible. Kudos to Melody for recognizing a parenting need and working hard to educate people how to wear and carry safely.

1. Make a sex tape without worrying you'll look terrible

Golden Girls Sex tape

The sex selfie stick is a great way to make an amateur sex tape without having to worry about flattering angles or how much you jiggle while you're doing it. Pictures from inside the vagina can be both sexual and intimate and totally anonymous.

 2. Intimacy without getting physical

intimacy not physical

The sex selfie stick could be a great way for folks who aren't sure about getting down and dirty with someone to do so in a perfectly sexual way while still maintaining control of the entire affair. Your partner is getting the ultimate sex view and you're safely ensconced in your own personal space.

3. Use it to get to know your own body

A woman who knows her own body is a woman equipped for a more satisfying sex life. So why not record sessions with your selfie stick for training purposes? You could watch it back and study it like an NFL coach watches game film.

4. Satisfy your smartphone addiction and your partner

Salvation Army follows up #thedress tweet with another powerful image

Earlier this morning they tweeted out the following:

Salvation Army

Salvation Army

Got your attention? Good, that's the point. While I initially found it distasteful to use a meme to spread awareness about domestic violence, I'm now actually convinced it was a pretty smart idea. After all, you can't spread awareness if no one's listening. What better way to make people listen than to use this month's most viral story.

Now people aren't just listening, they're talking. The original tweet currently has over 6400 shares — and that's just the original tweet, not all the people who've shared it on their own on social media as well as the old-fashioned way, aloud.

Salvation Army followed up that tweet with this one:

Salvation Army

Salvation Army

What should you take away from all this? That violence against women is not just real, but really underreported. One in six! While we all can't swoop in and save someone, we can all be more aware. It's as easy as paying attention to the people around us.

As someone who walked around New York City last year with a black eye (from a random assault) and barely got questioned about it, I know firsthand how easy it for people to walk by and not say a word. If you open your eyes, like really open your eyes, you'll see people who need help. And if you take the time to educate yourself about the issue, you'll actually be in a place where you can help.
