My daughter shook down the tooth fairy

$

We were in a hotel dining area when it happened. After a rare vacation, we were on our way from Florida to Texas, and our daughter, who'd been fiddling with a lower incisor for months, bit into a carrot and went wide-eyed. From what she'd understood about the tooth fairy, money had just fallen out of her mouth. This was a BFD. I grabbed a cup to stash her tooth in until bedtime and then left her in the care of my husband while I ran outside to call my in-laws. Their granddaughter had lost a tooth. Stop the presses! They were thrilled.

I headed back inside the hotel lobby and what I found was pandemonium. My husband, digging through trash bags and practically hissing at tourists as they dumped half-eaten Belgian waffles into the trash can. A mortified looking concierge. My daughter in tears. I didn't have to ask what happened, but I did anyway.

"Daddy threw my tooth away!" My daughter wailed. My husband looked miserable. He said nothing and continued to rummage through the foul detritus that only a highway-adjacent Holiday Inn Express can produce. Finally the daylight began to fade and I put a hand on his shoulder.

"It's over," I said, wiping a schmear of what might have been strawberry compote or human blood from his cheek. He hung his head. After explaining to my daughter that the tooth fairy knew all about accidentally lost teeth and would make her rounds anyway, she calmed down and started whistling through her tooth gap. After she fell asleep, my husband and I had a whispered conversation.

"I'm going to make this right," he vowed, head held high. I didn't know what he was talking about until the next morning.

I woke to my daughter shouting about the tooth fairy and waving two bills in the air. I smiled sleepily. My husband must have slipped her two dollars out of guilt. "That's nice, honey," I said, ready to roll back over. Then something caught my eye. I could make out a number on one of the bills. Was that a two? And a zero?

I swore.

"Forty dollars?" I shouted, and swore some more, dragging my husband out of bed and into the bathroom, to whisper-fight with him and find out what on Earth would possess him to fork over half of our grocery bill for a week to a 6-year-old.

"What did you do?"

"I felt so bad," he hissed. "I threw her tooth out."

"Two months," I promised, "She'll lose another tooth, and thou will see what thou hast wrought." He told me to quit being dramatic and rolled his eyes.

My husband had vastly inflated the going rate for teeth in the house. My daughter lost another tooth and looked skeptically at the quarters, insisting that she was sure the tooth fairy would make it right. My husband, ever the sucker, left a fiver under her pillow. More swearing from me. The next tooth after that was unaccompanied by the usual sweet missive my daughter wrote and only came with a warning: "I'm watching you."

This had to stop. We went for months without another tooth lost and then, this summer, she popped another one. My husband was away for work and I decided to put an end to the madness. Fifty cents. Sure, it was low by today's rates, but given previous payouts, I considered it more than fair.

The next morning my daughter came to me with a confession. She knew that there was no such thing as the tooth fairy. I assumed that I'd been too stingy and the jig was up, but she told me she had always suspected, ever since that first night. She apologized and offered to fork over her allowance for a few months to make up for her long con. I hugged her and told her not to worry about it but not to tell her friends what she knew. She nestled against my shoulder all snuggly and sweet.

"Mommy?"

"Yes, sweetheart?"

"Don't tell Daddy I know, OK? He might get sad."

I gave her a squeeze. "Plus," she whispered into my shoulder, "I'm saving up for LEGOs."

Fantastic Facebook 'thank you' from a dumped boyfriend

Have you been seeing those super annoying "thank you" videos on Facebook? If not, you'll love this. Ian K. takes the concept — a video thanking someone in your life for all the good times you have shared — and turns it on its head.

His good times? Include moping at a table alone:

moping at a conference table

So OK, we have all been there, right? Breakups are a bummer. Especially for men. They are lonely and sad and you kind of wander about aimlessly. My husband says when he broke up with his first girlfriend he didn't sleep the whole night after it happened. It was the night before his first day of school.

Ladies: Men have feelings, too! So what else do they do? They drink to excess:

passed out

Oh yeah, we have all seen this among our guy friends. They get dumped and the next thing you know, they are singing into their bottle and passed out on your lawn. Sometimes when men have feelings, they try to mask them. Women do this, too. Only they are more likely to use a carton of Edy's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream. Let's be realistic.

What else do men do? They do what we do! They listen to Adele. See:

Adele

See, it's not just us weeping while we listen to the original queen of the sad song, right? They say it takes half the time we were in the relationship to get over it. Personally, I've never found that to be true, but that's probably because I was the one doing the ending every time I had a breakup. Let's face it — it's painful to break up no matter what side of the breakup you are on, but it's far harder when you get dumped. It just is.

Still, this dude still has his sense of humor, and honestly? That's half the battle. He is going to be just fine.

More: If Disney ladies had jobs, this is what they'd be doing

The entertainment for the night turned out to be the legendary and incomparable Alan Menken, a name most people don't know, but should. Menken composed some of modern Disney's biggest movie songs. If you've ever twirled around your living room to "Under the Sea" or swooned for viewing a "Whole New World" during a magic carpet ride, you have Menken to thank. At the oh-so-perfect event, Menken sat behind the piano and worked his way through all our favorite tracks. And, of course, we made sure we could share it with you. You're welcome.

Songs:

"Friend Like Me" from Aladdin
"Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid
"Little Shop of Horrors" from Little Shop of Horrors
"Tale as Old as Time" from Beauty and the Beast
"That's How You Know" from Enchanted
"Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast
"Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas
"King of New York" from Newsies
"I See the Light" from Tangled

Technically, you're not familiar with that last song, yet. It's from ABC's upcoming new fairy-tale musical, Galavant, and Menken is joined at the piano by some of the cast. You can hear the song here, in one the show's first clips.

More: Listen up! Prides' "Messiah" is your new summer jam

Scottish synthpop lords, Prides, might be best known for their Indie-tastic "Messiah," but that doesn't mean the boys can't get down to pop. As a matter of fact, it turns out the trio listens to a whole hell of a lot of Top 40 radio on the way to and from gigs and while racing across the globe. After a monumental year for the band, they decided to bestow upon their fans one epic Christmas gift: A mixtape, so to speak, of their favorite songs from 2014, covered by them. It's, well... pretty glorious.

Prides cover everyone

Prides cover everyone

The guys recorded the session live and at the Old Mill Studio. It looks like it all went down in one take and while we're mighty impressed, we're certainly not surprised. Prides is made up of three seriously talented men. While we'd loved to see them earn some more recognition for their own music, we're still stoked at the thought that this video will pull in more fans and more love for our of our favorite bands of 2014.

More: Fall for Haim's sisterly sound

All these songs made the cut for Prides' best songs of the year

1. Ariana Grande ft. The Weeknd – "Love Me Harder"
2. Ryn Weaver – "OctaHate"
3. The 1975 – "Settle Down"
4. Ella Henderson – "Ghost"
5. Catfish and the Bottlemen – "Cocoon"
6. Taylor Swift – "Out of the Woods"
7. Nick Jonas – "Jealous"
8. Iggy Azalea ft. Charli XCX – "Fancy"
9. Jessie Ware – "Tough Love"
10. Sam Smith – "Stay With Me"

What about now? Are you as in love with them as we are? (Say "yes!" Say "yes!" Say "yes!")

Twitter fan group @AvrilMusicCharts posted a direct message exchange with Lavigne where she revealed the true reason behind her absence from the public eye this year is not marriage problems, but health problems.

4 Easy ground beef recipes for quick weeknight dinners

I'm always up for getting more time back in my day. How about you? One way to do that is to spend less time in the kitchen by making simple meals. Here are four meal ideas that will simplify your day so you can get some of it back. Oh, and by the way, they taste good too, which is a big plus. The one thing these dishes have in common is that they're all made with ground beef.

1 hamburger and black bean rice bowl

It's these kinds of meals that motivate me to keep small Ziploc bags of cooked ground beef in the freezer. Then all I have to do is give the meat a quick thaw and make one of these dishes for a simple dinner in minutes.

2 hamburger and black bean rice bowl

Ground beef and black bean rice bowl recipe

This easy layered meal in a bowl, with white or brown rice, black beans and ground beef, topped with pico de gallo or your favorite salsa, can be on the table in just 30 minutes.

Serves 2

Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 20 minutes | Total time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans
  • 2 cups cooked and seasoned ground beef
  • 1 cup pico de gallo or your favorite salsa
  • 1/2 a lime, quartered

Directions:

  1. In microwave-safe serving bowls, add a layer of cooked rice, then black beans and lastly ground beef.
  2. Warm in the microwave.
  3. Top with pico de gallo or salsa. Squeeze a lime wedge over the entire dish, and serve while warm.

1 Salt crusted baked potato

Salt-crusted baked potatoes make the house smell great while they're baking. They're filled to the brim with ground beef and melted cheese, then topped with a dollop of sour cream and some green onions. If you're a salt lover like me, it's really hard to resist yanking off the skin and eating it as it comes out of the oven.

2 salt crusted baked potato

Salt-crusted baked potato with ground beef recipe

A salt-crusted baked potato topped with ground beef, melted cheese, sour cream and green onions makes a perfectly hearty one-dish dinner.

Serves 2

Prep time: 15 minutes | Bake time: 45 minutes | Total time: 1 hour

Ingredients:

  • 2 large russet potatoes, unpeeled
  • 3 teaspoons olive oil
  • 3 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 3 teaspoons butter
  • 1 cup cooked ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (more may be needed, depending on the size of potatoes)
  • 2 large dollops sour cream
  • 1 green onion, chopped

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Rinse the potatoes, and cut out any bruises.
  3. Rub olive oil over the skins of the potatoes.
  4. Sprinkle kosher salt over all sides of the potatoes.
  5. Lay the potatoes on a rack that is sitting on a cookie sheet or pizza pan.
  6. Bake uncovered for about 45 minutes (may take longer, depending on the size of potatoes)
  7. Let cool for about 5 minutes.
  8. Cut a slit lengthwise into each potato.
  9. Fluff the meat of the potatoes with a fork, and add butter.
  10. To a small bowl, add the ground beef and Worcestershire sauce. Mix together, and warm in the microwave.
  11. Add the meat on top of the potatoes. Top with cheese, and heat in the microwave for about 20 seconds to quickly melt the cheese.
  12. Just before serving, top with sour cream and green onions.

1 skillet casserole bow tie pasta

Bow tie pasta is so pretty that no matter how many different pastas I have in my pantry, I always seem to reach for it when making a pasta dish. This is one of my fave go-to dinners that I've made over the years. I'm partial to using small, baby canned peas, but feel free to add your favorite peas to this dish. This pasta is made with just a few main ingredients and is seasoned with thyme.

3 skillet casserole bow tie pasta

Skillet casserole with bow tie pasta recipe

This one-skillet comfort food meal, made with a white sauce, pasta, peas and ground beef, is the best kind of dish for weeknight cooking.

Serves 2

Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 20 minutes | Total time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooked bow tie pasta
  • 1-1/2 cups cooked ground beef
  • 1/2 cup baby peas
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup half-and-half
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or salt to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese

Directions:

  1. Heat a large skillet on medium heat, and add the butter, half-and-half, milk and thyme. Stir as it simmers.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon at a time of cornstarch to the mixture, and whisk after each one. If the mixture is thickening with just 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, then there's no need to use the second tablespoon.
  3. Once the milk mixture has reduced and thickened up a bit (about 15 minutes), add the pasta, thyme, salt and pepper. Continue to stir. Taste to see if more salt is needed.
  4. Top with Parmesan cheese, and serve warm.

1 hamburger soft tacos

Soft tacos are so good and easy to make. Just have some soft corn tortillas on hand along with ground beef, cheese and lettuce, and dinner will be ready in no time flat. I like to warm my corn tortillas with the meat in them in the microwave between 2 large glass plates so they get slightly steamed. This recipe uses shredded lettuce, but feel free to use shredded cabbage instead if you have it on hand. It's certainly healthy and tastes delish in the taco too.

2 hamburger soft tacos

Soft tacos with ground beef recipe

Soft tacos are my go-to dinner when I'm drawing a blank on what to cook. All that is needed are fresh corn tortillas, meat, cheese and lettuce, and you're practically done. Top with your favorite salsa, and you have yourself a no-fuss and delicious meal.

Serves 2

Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 20 minutes | Total time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 6 corn tortillas
  • 1-1/2 cups cooked ground beef
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup chopped red cabbage
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup salsa

Directions:

  1. Warm the cooked ground beef in the microwave, and set it aside for a moment.
  2. On a large plate, lay a batch of 2 to 3 tortillas if they'll fit.
  3. Add ground beef to the middles of the tortillas.
  4. Warm the tortillas between 2 large plates (the one on top turned upside down) for about 20 seconds to slightly steam them. They'll need to be done in batches.
  5. Top the soft taco with cheese, lettuce, red cabbage, tomatoes and salsa.
  6. Serve while warm.

Walking Dead's Emily Kinney sings about dating a rock star (VIDEO)

More: That time we thought Beth and Darryl would hook up

"Rockstar" isn't Kinney's first stab at music; she's previously released an EP titled Expired Love. This new track and accompanying video are the leadoff to her upcoming full-length album to be released some time in 2015. Honestly, we're not 100 percent sure how we feel about the song.

Emily Kinney - Rockstar

Emily Kinney - Rockstar

There's no denying the likeability of Kinney's voice. There's a super-sweetness to her tone that, when layered over the guitars on "Rockstar," takes us right back to the '90s. It almost seems too immature, though, when you hold it up against Kinney's age. To a certain extent, it almost feels fake, even though we know it's not. We like it right now, but it could very easily become grating if it lands on Top 40 radio.

More: 7 Most extreme reactions to what happened to Beth

And then there are the "Rockstar" lyrics. We spent the entire three minutes asking, "Is she being serious or sarcastic?" As she clomps over the melody by talking about taking selfies and band pics during gigs, it does feel a little like that time we dated a bassist. And we definitely have "fond" memories of loading and unloading gear. So, it feels real to us. Then again, the snarky comment about new tattoos instead of wedding rings makes us a feel a little like she's just poking fun at anyone who (God forbid) wants to buck tradition. All those side-eyes and eye-rolls only verify our suspicions that the entire song is a joke.

And we'd be hurt but, let's face it, we're making all kinds of jokes at the expense of her dancing. On the bright side, at least Kinney found a way to stay somewhat relevant after The Walking Dead gave her the ax.

Kate Hudson's single: Who should be the next Mr. Hudson?

Owen Wilson

Owen Wilson

We want Hudson to date Owen Wilson primarily because we can't. These two kids have dated before and friends say the split was at least partially responsible for Wilson's downward spiral after the breakup. We loved them together in You, Me and Dupree, we loved them as a real couple and we're sure we'd love them now. Wilson has an on-again, off-again thing with his baby mama Caroline Lindqvist, but now that Hudson and Wilson are both parents they have more in common than great smiles, blond hair and a great sense of humor.

Bradley Cooper

Another Wedding Crashers bachelor, Bradley Cooper, may make the perfect next Mr. Hudson. Like Kate, he's gorgeous, funny and talented. Sure, he's got that pesky little 22-year-old model girlfriend, but come on, Cooper — who are we kidding here? Those things never last.

Drake

OK, so we're kind of kidding here, but Drake needs a real girlfriend, and fast. He's probably tired of getting his ass beat for alleged interludes with other guys' girlfriends. Hudson seems to have a soft spot for musicians — her first husband was Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes.

More: Diddy reportedly punches Drake, putting him in the hospital

Lenny Kravitz

Image: IPA/WENN

Lenny Kravitz

We're not done with the bad-boy musician angle yet. Perhaps the ultra-sexy Lenny Kravitz should be the next Hudson love interest. In September 2014, Kravitz told Howard Stern he was ready to get married again, if the right person came along. Cue Kate Hudson. Kravitz's tastes run to tall, gorgeous women — his past dalliances include Nicole Kidman and Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima. So there you have it: a match made in heaven. Is it just us, or are we really good at this? Call us, Kate.

Russell Brand

Image: WENN

Russell Brand

In all honestly and with all possible adoration, we're not convinced Russell Brand is really a good choice for any woman. That sounds so much harsher than we mean it — but look at what the guy says and does in public. What does a private moment look like for him? Just the same, we're getting a vision of Hudson and Brand on a couch together, completely relaxed and laughing their asses off. It could work.

Chris Pine

Image: Fayes Vision/WENN

Chris Pine

As with Wilson, we want Hudson to date Chris Pine because she can and we can't. In an odd "two degrees of separation" coincidence, Pine was rumored to be dating Lenny Kravitz's daughter, Zoë Kravitz, in September. We haven't heard much about her lately, or any other love interest for Pine, for that matter — so, Kate: get on it (in a manner of speaking).

Sears pulls swastika ring after sane people complain

As part of Sears' "men's punk rock style" jewelry collection — because you don't get more anti-establishment than a corporation that rakes in $32 billion a year — the company advertised this fashionable tribute to Adolf Hitler on its website.

This piece was also available from online retailers like Amazon. In case you're wondering what in the hell Sears could say about this ring other than, holy crap, we're selling a swastika ring because we really want bad press, here's the blurb that accompanied the ring:

Find exactly what you need while browsing through our new gothic jewelry items. This gothic jewelry item in particular features a Swastika ring that's made of .925 Thai silver. Not for Neo Nazi or any Nazi implication. These jewelry items are going to make you look beautiful at your next date.

Yes, like a beautiful, glamorous Neo-Nazi who supports the extermination of anyone whose hair is one shade darker than platinum. Pass the salt.

After receiving tons of complaints, Sears tweeted and explained that the ring was a "3rd party Sears marketplace product" and that it was promptly removed from their site.

I can't imagine Sears is lamenting the loss of this one item because the store expected to make millions in profits from it — I mean, Jesus, at least I really hope that isn't the reality. The important thing is that the company swiftly responded, apologized and made things right.

I know the swastika was a sacred Hindu and Buddhist symbol and that it's totally unfair that the Nazi party hijacked it and ruined it forever. Such is life. And I know that a swastika is really just a few lines that intersect and big whoop. But there's no place on the market for an item that boasts a symbol that has come to stand for the deaths of millions.

If you're a Neo-Nazi looking for hot Neo-Nazi fashion, you're still going to have to Google your shameful sartorial desires in secret and fork over your money to some equally shady individual. Sears and Amazon, thankfully, are going to stick to cuddly "punk" symbols like skulls.

I'll let my teen drink at home once in a while

$
0
0

Let me be clear, though, that I'm talking about a teenage version of my kid, since she's just 3 years old and tried to feed me goldfish through the phone yesterday. Her palate won't yet appreciate a fine merlot.

Also, I'm not talking about helping her binge drink "jungle juice," letting her host wild parties where she leads other teens into a life of debauchery or toasting with her friends like a proverbial "cool mom." So, please stop clutching your pearls.

What I'm talking about is introducing her to responsible alcohol consumption, since she'll have plenty of exposure to ridiculously irresponsible alcohol use by the time she turns 13. I'm talking about letting her try my favorite Texas beer (Shiner Bock, if you're curious) or red wine, and teaching her how to appreciate both its flavors and its dangers. She'll experience that first lovely tingle of a good beer under my watchful eye, when I can coach her on how to call a cab or avoid the leering boy in the corner if she feels the same way out in public someday. Because, she will.

We do a disservice to our kids when we pretend that normal human experiences and pleasures are verboten. Drinking alcohol is a normal human experience, and it's pleasurable. Why would our children not want to try it? Since my kid will try it anyway, I'd prefer she do so in a context where she can actually learn something about it rather than endangering her life around a bunch of idiot teens with poorly-developed judgment zones.

To those who balk at this plan based on the Centers for Disease Control research that states teen drinking may lead to alcoholism, I call foul. Look closely at the research, and the CDC is clear that teen drinking is a serious public health problem for our teens, but that is primarily because teen drinking is largely synonymous with binge drinking. Yes, binge drinking is horribly dangerous and leads to thousands of teen deaths per year, and sometimes to a lifetime of alcohol abuse. But you know what won't occur in my house with my kid? Binge drinking. That crap happens when teens go to a party, experience peer pressure and don't understand their body's limitations.

The Walk: 7 Mind-blowing facts about the incredible true story

$

Insane, right? You'd have to be insane.

Or, you'd have to be Philippe Petit, the daredevil Frenchman who completed the stunt in 1974. Inspired by this amazing true story, Robert Zemeckis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have teamed up to bring the performance artist's story to life and will be delivering it in IMAX 3D in 2015. We're a little dizzy just imagining the stunt on that huge screen!

Here's the scoop on Petit and the tightrope walk of a lifetime.

Petit was a man of many talents

Phillipe Petit

Image: Wenn

Born in 1949 to a French army pilot and his wife, Petit began studying magic at the age of 6. He later learned to juggle and began his career as a street performer doing tricks for tourists in France. At 16, he discovered the tightrope and so began his lifelong love affair with walking the wire.

Tightropes all over the world

Man on Wire

Image: Wenn

In 1971, Petit tightrope walked between the towers of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and, in 1973, he pulled off another death-defying walk between the two northern pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia. Both of these events were pulled off guerrilla-style. Petite actually walked the Sydney Harbour Bridge tightrope five times before the police showed up and, although the stunt was illegal, he was only issued a fine and a terse finger wag.

He had to use secret disguises

Man on Wire

Image: Magnolia Pictures & Magnet Releasing/YouTube

Petit knew from the moment he learned of the World Trade Center buildings that he wanted to walk between them, but it would take him six years of planning to make it a reality. Once he arrived in NY, Petit spent several months casing the premises as he finalized plans. In order to avoid suspicion, Petit assumed several identities and disguises during his visits to the tower, including that of a reporter and of a construction worker.

It was a group effort

Cast of The Walk

Imagine Ocean's Eleven, but with artists instead of thieves. Petit had an eclectic team of friends assisting him with his plans, including an NY photographer, who helped him rent a helicopter in order to photograph the buildings from above, and a German juggler named Francis Brunn, who financed the operation. Petit made fake ID cards for his collaborators so that they could gain access to the roof and together they began sneaking his tightrope equipment into the buildings a week before the event was to take place.

Petit spent 45 minutes in the air!

Man on Wire

Image: Magnolia Pictures & Magnet Releasing/YouTube

That's right — that crazy Frenchman danced across that high wire, 1,350 feet above the ground, for 45 minutes! The police threatened to pull him from the wire by helicopter, but the crowds of people below him were spellbound.

Charges dropped due to publicity

Man on Wire

Image: Magnolia Pictures & Magnet Releasing/YouTube

Public favor was not in the Twin Towers' court at the time the buildings were being constructed. People thought the buildings were ugly and the port authority was having difficulty renting space in the building. Petit's stunt brought with it a wave of positive press and officials were grateful. Petit was let off the hook for his "crime" on the condition that he perform a free children's show in Central Park — a pretty sweet deal for the artist who could otherwise have faced hefty fines and maybe even time in jail.

This isn't the first film about Petit

Phillipe Petit at the 2009 Academy Awards

In 2008, U.K. director, James Marsh, won accolades for his documentary film about Petit, Man on Wire. The film combined historical footage with reenactments and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2009.

We can't predict if Zemeckis' film will mean more Oscar gold for Petit, but we are pretty sure its dizzying special effects will ensure box office success. Check out the trailer below to see what it's like to stand at the edge.

More10 Best and worst music videos of 2014 (VIDEOS)

Lee's career has been prolific to say the least — his starring roles, nearly 300 of them, range from the bloodsucking title character in the Dracula franchise to Count Dooku in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and, yes, Saruman the White in Peter Jackson's stunning adaptations of the Tolkien classics.

But here's a fun fact for you: Christopher Lee also loves music. And, more specifically, heavy metal music.

Just in time for the holidays, the veteran actor has released "Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing" — a portentous take on the nostalgic Christmas tune, "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing."

More: 19 Most misquoted holiday lyrics

This isn't the self-proclaimed metalhead's first foray into the head-banging musical arena, either. Last year, his single, "Jingle Hell," made it all the way to No. 18 on the Billboard charts, earning him two distinctive honors: becoming the oldest heavy metal musician and becoming the oldest musician ever to chart on Billboard.

"It's light-hearted, joyful and fun," Lee said of his new track. "It's a band singing on how metal should be played, the effect it has on the band and its listeners."

And while playful may not be the first word that comes to mind when the ominous-sounding single cues up, the music is oddly joyful.

More: 2014's Top 25 songs make an amazing mash-up (VIDEO)

Perhaps it's the celebratory sentiment behind the track — Lee explains of his motivation for rocking out at the ripe-old age of 92, "At my age, the most important thing for me is to keep active by doing things that I truly enjoy. I do not know how long I am going to be around, so every day is a celebration and I want to share it with my fans."

Now, that's a sentiment we can all bang our heads in support of.

Get into the holiday spirit with Sir Christopher by listening to the track below!

Instagram playboy Dan Bilzerian caught trying to make a bomb

The extravagant-living bad boy reportedly had an arrest warrant issued against him in Clark County, Nevada, after officials discovered he was intending to make a powerful explosive with bomb-making materials. According to TMZ, Bilzerian was in possession of ammonium, aluminum powder and an ammonium nitrate mix, all of which make pure TNT when mixed together.

More: Name that convict: Celebs with rap sheets

Last month's warrant was filed under wraps, presumably because cops didn't want to blow their cover and risk the story going public while they were still investigating. With Tuesday's arrest, Bilzerian was charged with "violating a law making it a crime to possess an explosive or incendiary device with the intent to manufacture it," TMZ reported.

Bilzerian is a big fan of weapons, often posting photos of his gun collections on Instagram. He was actually phased out of the Navy SEAL program in 1992, just two days shy of graduating.

More: Armie Hammer busted with pot pastries

Besides being known as a lavish millionaire and a repeat poker-winner, Bilzerian was further raised to fame by his controversial social media posts. Not only does the rich playboy like to show pictures of all his weapons, but he's constantly also sharing shots of nude models hanging all over him, often in compromising positions. Bilzerian also likes to post photos of the models holding guns as they provocatively grind on him from all angles.

More: Arrests made in Amazing Race drug death case

Meanwhile, another report from the Daily News claims that just before his bust, a model claimed that Bilzerian kicked her in the face at a Miami nightclub a few days ago. The notorious womanizer also got in hot water for throwing a naked female porn star off a Hollywood mansion's roof into a pool. The woman broke her foot in the incident, but the stunt was all part of a photo shoot for Hustler magazine, and she apparently agreed to do it.

Bilzerian remains in custody without bail and may face between one and six years in prison if he's convicted.

Kate Middleton and LeBron James

Kate Middleton and LeBron James

Prince William and pregnant Kate Middleton are getting the royal treatment while on their three-day trip to New York City. Not only did they meet our "royal couple" (Jay Z and Beyoncé, of course) while at the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers basketball game, but they also met "King" LeBron James.

The basketball star posted this picture on his Instagram page as he presented the royal couple with a Cavaliers jersey for 16-month-old Prince George. James raised some eyebrows with this photo op when he put his arm around Middleton, as that reportedly breaks protocol on how you are supposed to act around royalty. Very scandalous, we know.

The Duchess, who is due in April, dressed her baby bump in a grey Tory Burch coat paired with black jeans.

Middleton also visited the Northside Center for Child Development in Harlem, where kids were told a real-life princess was coming to visit. As it turns out, the kids thought she was the princess from the movie Frozen. Wearing a black coat and heels, Middleton (pictured at top) was photographed bending down to chat with one of the kids. What were they talking about? The Duchess was reportedly chatting with the kids about their favorite movie, which was Frozen, of course.

The Duchess was spotted in another chic look as she wore a plum Marina coat by Seraphine as she and Prince William made their way into Manhattan's Carlyle Hotel. This coat was created exclusively for her by the designer, however you can pick up the Seraphine black turtleneck dress (Seraphine, $99) she wore under the jacket.

The actress is expecting her first child with her husband, Justin Timberlake, who has been busy traveling the country on his latest tour.

The private couple has yet to speak out about their pregnancy. "Right now they are just enjoying the news for themselves," an inside source told Us Weekly. "They just want a happy baby."

Pregnant Carrie Underwood showed off her baby bump in a shimmery black jacket and leather pants as she performed on December 1 for a World AIDS Day concert in New York City's Times Square.

The singer is expecting her first child, a boy, with her husband, hockey star Mike Fisher, and she recently told the Today show that they were working on coming up with the perfect baby name.

"There's kind of a couple [of names] that we're OK with, but it's hard, labeling your child for the rest of its life," she revealed. "I was like, 'Why don't we come up with a short list we're both agreeable to and then meet the little guy and see what we're feeling.'"

Shortly after their pregnancy announcement, Fisher tweeted out a baby name idea that we are sure won't "fly" well with Underwood. "We haven't picked names yet but it's looking like Fly is gonna fly. #boyorgirl #flyfisher."

Molly Sims showed off her baby bump in this radiant red dress on her Instagram page. The 41-year-old actress and her husband, producer Scott Stuber, are expecting their second baby together. They are already parents to a son, 2-year-old Brooks.

Sims, who is currently around six months pregnant, recently shared on her website some tips she learned about dressing during your first trimester.

"During the first trimester of your pregnancy you tend to employ the fashion camouflage technique the most because you aren't telling everyone about your little secret yet," she writes.

"Just because your favorite jeans have to go on inactive duty for a bit doesn't mean you have to resort to Moo-Moos. A great trick to be able to wear your jeans a little longer is getting a belly band. Keep your burgeoning secret under wraps but still make yourself feel good while you are doing it. I really like wearing a long or loose fitting dress or skirt that gives you breathing room in the middle. Going one size bigger in your clothing is also a great option."

8 Ways to get off without sex

$

When it comes to the elusive female orgasm, most women have had this unfortunate fact repeated in their ear since the sad day word of it got out in the girls' locker room: You were basically told not to expect to come — ever — during sex. It's not happening. No fat chance. Pretend to like penetration and hope it doesn't suck.

Experts agree that only about 75 to 85 percent of all women can achieve orgasm through intercourse alone. Sex Therapist Vanessa Marin, who is actually launching an online training program to teach women how to orgasm (bless her heart), says this statistic shouldn't make women feel helpless. "The most valuable thing you can do is find ways to bring more clitoral stimulation into your sex life," Marin says. There is a universe of sexual possibilities that some women never explore. Here are eight of the best ways to get started so you can get off without sex.

1. Masturbate in front of one another

Instead of treating your partner like a machine whose job it is to give you an orgasm, heed the advice of Dr. Carlen Costa, a sexologist and relationship expert from Canada, and change your attitude first. "You are supposed to own your orgasm," Dr. Carlen says.

And the number one way she suggests increasing your sexual confidence and taking control over your orgasms is by partaking in a naughty bit of "adult show and tell" and masturbating in front of one another. Whether you choose to discuss in advance the fact that you're about to give your partner the thrill of his life or surprise him by letting him come home and "catch" you rubbing yourself on the couch, is entirely up to you. And though you may be tempted to let him jump in and finish the job, Dr. Carlen suggests restraining your passions and enforcing a "no touching" rule for as long as possible — which will only make things hotter.

2. Sex toys

Sex toys have come a long way since your mother's dildo (sorry, not a sexy image). Marin suggests trying a couples' toy like the We-Vibe or, if you prefer going at it alone, the Eva by DAME products, which will be released next year and is an actual hands-free vibrator that stimulates the clitoris with zero effort — yay for that!

Kait Scalisi, a sexual and reproductive health educator, writer and consultant, is also a huge fan of toys like the We-Vibe Touch, as well as G-Spot toy Je Joue Uma and arousal oils like ON Arousal Oil, which she says brings blood flow to the vaginal area and makes it easier to become aroused and achieve orgasm. "I highly recommend all women have a high-quality lubricant," Scalisi said. "Water-based lubes like Sliquid Organics are great for toys while silicone-based lubes like the one by Pjur are better for intercourse, oral sex and fingering. The amount of natural lubricant a woman produces is not indicative of her level of arousal as everything from stress to dehydration to medications can affect the body's ability to get wet."

3. Direct stimulation

Ugh, how many times have we been told the number one way for women to achieve orgasm is by getting oral sex? It's as if some sexperts have never been inside of the mind of a woman who has insecurities. Look, we're not saying to stop your partner when he wants to go down on you because cunnilingus can be one of the most pleasurable experiences on the planet. But so much attention has been put on oral sex that Dr. Carlen says it's easy to forget that women don't always come this way. "More women are more self-conscious when they have someone in between their legs," Dr. Carlen says. "They worry about what they taste or smell like. Instead, direct stimulation is the number one way women orgasm."

Chances are, you are well versed on all things clitoris and know both light touching and applying more pressure to this sensitive spot can result in orgasm. But Dr. Carlen reminds us to encourage our partners to explore the entire vagina — including the labia and vulva, which has the second-most nerve endings after the clitoris and the U-spot, the area on and around the urethra.

4. Dirty talk

The brain is our largest sex organ and we're doing ourselves a huge disservice if we ignore this fact. It's completely possible to orgasm or get so worked up you could come in seconds without any physical contact at all by taking the time to engage in a little filthy talk before or even instead of sex.

If you've never tried this before with your partner, Dr. Carlen says to take your time and take it slow. "You don't have to jump in with the dirtiest thing because it can come across as awkward or unauthentic," she says. Instead of whispering in his ear that you want to have an orgy with him and 15 members of a football team, Dr. Carlen says tried-and-true dirty talk includes saying things like "I love it when you do (fill in the blank)," and the universally hot, "Oh baby I'm coming."

And if you're feeling shy about it, the expert says a great way to build your sexual confidence and test the waters is by sexting your partner. Setting up a scenario via text like, "When you get home tonight (fill in the blank)" is a surefire way to fan the flames.

5. Frottage

Nope, this isn't the name of a decadent dessert — it's something many of us probably did when we were teenagers. I'm talking about good ole dry humping, rubbing and grinding — the kind that takes place when both partners are either fully or partially dressed — or, oh what the hell, totally naked works too.

The beauty of frottage is that it's exciting because it's an unexpected thing to do with your partner when you're over the age of 21. There's no pressure to perform, no worries about birth control (assuming all of your clothing is on!) and a rare opportunity for both you and your partner to get off at the time from the very same act.

6. Tantric sex

If you haven't heard of the ancient Indian tradition of tantra, brace yourself: There are some fortunate individuals and couples out there who have tapped into sexual energy in a way that can result in them having an orgasm within minutes — with absolutely no physical contact. But Patricia Johnson, who has 15 years of experience teaching tantra with her husband Mark A. Michaels and with whom she has written a book called Partners in Passion: A Guide to Great Sex, Emotional Intimacy and Long-Term Love, says anyone can learn how to channel that energy we all have into a powerful orgasm.

"First of all, imagination is the key," Johnson said. "Studies show that orgasm actually originates in the brain, so attitude matters more than technique. Imagine that you're having an orgasm and that will get you on the road to the real thing. Tantra is more about attitude than a particular skill or past experience."

 7. Breast orgasms

We pay so much attention to how our breasts look that some of us forget these babies are not only lovely, but — regardless of our cup size — functional and one of our very best friends when it comes to orgasm. Our breasts actually swell up to 25 percent when we feel aroused and even change color, according to Dr. Carlen. When our partner stimulates our nipples by licking, massaging or even tapping them rhythmically, it can have the same exciting effect on our brain as clitoral and vaginal stimulation.

8. Spanking/role playing/BDSM

Big fan of Fifty Shades? If you've been wondering how it feels to get spanked or act out your submissive fantasies, Scalisi highly recommends that women fill out a yes/no/maybe list of options that exist in order to get ideas about what they could do in the bedroom and decide if it's right for them. Thanks to Christian Grey, Scalisi says there's never been an easier time to broach this topic with a partner.

"A woman could say, 'You know how in the book Christian did X? What do you think of that? Would you be open to trying it?'" Scalisi said. You don't have to go to extremes while experimenting, either. A great pair of leather handcuffs by Crave provide the thrill of being tied up without it being too intense, Scalisi said. It's all about doing what makes you comfortable and exploring a side of you that you didn't know existed — and that can tip the excitement scale to instant orgasm.
