Brown sugar baked peaches

When peaches come into season, I just about jump for joy. There is nothing quite like a fresh peach just picked from a tree. This baked peach dish gives you the fresh, delicious flavor of peaches with just a touch of brown sugar sweetness. The brown sugar-yogurt-rum sauce for the top is to die for and should definitely be included with this peach dish. In fact, the sauce is perfect with almost any fruit.

Brown sugar baked peaches with rum-infused yogurt sauce recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 4 peaches, pitted and cut in half
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • 6 ounces plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Dark rum

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a small casserole dish (or 4 small gratin dishes), add the peaches cut side up.
  3. Add 1/2 tablespoon of butter into each peach cavity, and cover the peaches in an equal amount of brown sugar.
  4. Bake for about 10 to 15 minutes, until the peaches are soft and the brown sugar has melted, glazing the tops of the peaches.
  5. Sprinkle the peaches with the desired amount of cinnamon.
  6. Let the peaches cool for a few minutes while you prepare the rum-yogurt sauce.
  7. In a small bowl, add the Greek yogurt and brown sugar. Stir to combine, and use dark rum to thin out the sauce.
  8. Add a dollop of rum-yogurt sauce to the tops of the peaches, and enjoy warm.

Geeking Out: Wil Wheaton's funny, sarcastic new Project

Geeks: Wil Wheaton is back on the tube and we don't mean playing himself in that obnoxious bit part on The Big Bang Theory. This time he's flaunting his true nerdiness and showing off his goofball side on his own show on SyFy. Is The Wil Wheaton Project perfect? No. But it has enormous potential and we already kind of love it.

What a good guy: Wil Wheaton stands up for nerds >>

The Wil Wheaton Project premiered with seemingly no hype at all. We found it one evening while enthralled in a couple episodes of Heroes of Cosplay (also an amazingly entertaining chunk of original television brought to us by SyFy). His new show is like a strangely beautiful mash-up of Tosh.O and @midnight, with @midnight's dominant genes. Basically, it's a lot of Wheaton being a huge nerd in front of a television screen and making fun of geekery found on the internet.

Oh — and there are games. Recently, Wheaton's guest, the gorgeous Felicia Day, dropped by and the two pals play a game of "How Will They Die?" The two reunited and watched clips from absolutely awful films of the horror/supernatural variety. They'd pause the film before someone was killed and then guessed how the person's life would end. From being snatched up by a rock man thing attached to the side of a mountain to watching The Monkee's Micky Dolenz getting attacked by a reptilian creature, Day and Wheaton had tons of fun. Possibly more than viewers.

Last time Wheaton showed up on TBBT >>

We're genuinely excited for Wheaton's return to television, but The Wil Wheaton Project definitely needs some tweaking. Wheaton's snarky and hilarious comments on geek culture happenings are amusing enough to possibly pull in the Nerdist crowd. Adding in that mix of cultish (or just completely unknown) horror films adds an air of uniqueness to it. However, Wheaton looks a little awkward standing in front of that TV screen. It worked for Daniel Tosh's frat-boy vibe, but we expect more from Wheaton. It would make a world of difference for the show if SyFy would toss Wheaton into a leather chair and bring his guest out to help with the riffing. In general, though, it's a cool concept and a great stab at a talk show for SyFy.

The Wil Wheaton Project is packed with potential, mostly because of its well-loved host. Stick with it, guys. You're sitting on gold. The Wil Wheaton Project airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on SyFy. We approve.

MTV sends Teen Wolf fans on a scavenger hunt

If you want to see the new Teen Wolf Season 4 trailer, you can now. However, if you wanted to see it early, you had to go on one giant and seriously cryptic scavenger hunt. The race for clues led to a huge surge of traffic on numerous websites and has earned MTV massive marketing props.

Eek! Are Kira and Scott in love? Sure looks like it >>

MTV unleashed the marketing ploy via various social media accounts on Friday with one vague question: "Who is the benefactor?" and a link to WhoIsTheBenefactor.com. The website showed one keyword and 15 blank lines. With no more instruction or hints, whispers began to rumble from Teen Wolf fans as they discussed what MTV could possibly want from them. Before long, it turned into an all-out frenzy as they began to scour the internet, on a mission to find out what they were missing.

Oh, no: Which death would most impact the show? >>

Bit by bit, it came together. The fans scoured the internet for the keywords and clues, all of which were approved by Jeff Davis, Teen Wolf's executive producer. Clues were purposely placed in enigmatic tweets from cast members and in a half-minute promo. Others were plucked from MTV.com and the show's Tumblr posts from several years ago. The hunt created quite the stir. More than a quarter million visitors stopped by the hunt-specific website. Of the 155,000 attempts at the scrambled keywords, only 23,000 people managed to pass the test. The reward: the first look at Teen Wolf Season 4's newest trailer.

Was it a lot of work? Sure. Was it worth it? Teen Wolf fans seem to think so. Now the rest of us slackers can see it for ourselves. What do you think of the new trailer? Howl about your feelings in the comments below. Then, don't forget to tune in to the Teen Wolf Season 4 premiere on June 23 at 10/9c on MTV.

Tracy Morgan's representative, Lewis Kay, has released another statement about the comedian's condition. According to USA Today, Kay made it clear that though surgery was performed on Morgan's leg, it was not an amputation. Kay also reiterated that Morgan's condition continues to be "critical yet stable" after a multivehicle crash on the New Jersey Turnpike that occurred very early Saturday morning.

"His fiancée Megan is by his side. The concern for his well-being has been overwhelming, but Megan is respectfully asking that media await official word through these channels before speculating (mostly inaccurately) on his condition. Rumors about amputating his leg are completely fabricated," read Kay's statement. "As we shared yesterday, Tracy had surgery on his broken leg. We are working closely with the incredible staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital to share information when it is available. This recovery will be arduous and we hope that you can be patient during this difficult time."

Kay had already released a statement on Sunday evening to let the public know that Morgan was "more responsive" than he had been the previous day. According to the release, Morgan suffered a broken femur, broken nose, and several broken ribs, among other injuries, and is expected to be hospitalized for several weeks.

Morgan was on the road for his Turn It Funny stand-up comedy tour when the limo bus he was riding in was hit from behind and flipped over. The comedian was airlifted from the scene after the six-vehicle accident. Morgan's friend and fellow comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair, 62, was killed and six other people were injured.

The driver of the Walmart truck that caused the accident was 35-year-old Kevin Roper, according to authorities in New Jersey. Authorities also said that Roper had not slept for more than 24 hours before the fatal crash and was allegedly asleep at the wheel. He faces charges including death by auto and four counts of assault by auto.

Halle Berry and former boyfriend Gabriel Aubry split four years ago, but they are still very much in each other's lives because of their daughter. Berry gave birth to Nahla back in 2008, and a judge finally settled the former couple's child support case on May 30.

Halle Berry to paparazzi: Kids are off limits >>

According to People, Berry and Aubry share equal custody of their daughter, and Berry has been ordered to pay $16,000 a month in child support until Nahla turns 19 or graduates from high school, whichever comes first. Berry was also ordered to pay Aubrey $115,000 in "retroactive support."

Berry married Olivier Martinez in April 2013, but she has been fighting Aubry since they first split. She had attempted to move to France full-time with Nahla but was denied that request. Berry and Aubry first reached a custody agreement in 2012, but around the same time, Aubry and Martinez were involved in a "physical altercation."

"Gabriel attacked Olivier and Olivier defended himself," a source told People of the fight back in 2012.

Both men were sent to the hospital, and Aubry was later arrested.

Although Berry is now responsible for a hefty child support payment, she is likely relieved to have some resolution in the case.

Besides the custody battle, Berry has a lot going on in her life and has been staying busy. She and Martinez welcomed their own child, a boy, in October 2013. She stars in her own series, Extant, beginning this summer, and you can also see her in the film X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Whether you like "Fancy" or not, it's impossible not to recognize Iggy Azalea's runaway hit. The catchy hip hop single has inspired a wave of parodies. This one basically wins the internet.

The moms at What's Up Moms put together a hilarious parody that reminds us all what being 9 months pregnant felt like. If you remember all the sleepless nights, constant peeing, crippling heartburn and painful kicks of the third trimester, you'll love "I'm So Pregnant."

"And I pee every 10 seconds," Meg — who is actually pregnant — sings. "I cannot bend down, that would defy the laws of physics." Yeah. We've been there and done that.

Between pregnant moms running marathons and these talented women singing and dancing, the pregnancy accomplishment bar has been raised. And I thought it was impressive when I could balance a bowl of cereal on my belly.

How to make homemade deep dish pizza

Deep-dish pepperoni pizza

My family loves pizza. We eat it at least once a week, and usually Saturday night is pizza night. A few months ago, I bought a few Dutch ovens and started experimenting with deep dish pizza. It is now our go-to pizza night recipe, and we love it. This pizza does take some time to make, but it's well worth the effort. I mean, look at all that saucy and cheesy goodness!

Deep-dish pepperoni pizza

Start off by pouring some olive oil to coat your 12-inch cast iron skillet. Sprinkle some cornmeal on the bottom of the skillet. This will give your crust an authentic feel and taste. Set aside the prepared skillet until the dough is ready to fill it.

Making the dough is pretty simple. You just mix some ingredients together, knead and allow the crust to rise. Quick tip: Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F, turn off the heat, and place the bowl with the dough inside it. Crack the door open a little so it doesn't get too hot. This helps the crust to rise in a warm environment and will make it thick and full.

Deep-dish pepperoni pizza

Making the sauce is simple too: crushed tomatoes, some butter, spices, olive oil and a little sugar.

Basically everything gets mixed together all at once, and then you can adjust the seasonings to your preference. I like to let the mixture simmer for at least 30 minutes, because I feel the flavors get richer the longer they simmer. You will need to stir it occasionally, though. This sauce will get separated into 2 parts. One part goes right on top of the crust, and then the other part will go on top of the pepperoni.

Deep-dish pepperoni pizza

Once you lay the crust into the prepared skillet, it's time for some serious cheese. I'm talking a full pound of cheese. I used mozzarella and highly recommend it for this pizza. I also recommend freshly grating your cheese. If you buy cheese that has already been grated, it will make your pizza very greasy because of the waxes they put on the grated cheese to keep it from clumping together.

After the cheese goes 1/2 the sauce, then a layer of pepperoni, and then the remaining sauce on top.

Deep-dish pepperoni pizza

Finally, a little bit of Parmesan cheese to top off the pizza, and it is ready to bake. I preheat the Dutch oven to 400 degrees F for this pizza. I have found that preheating the skillet for at least 30 minutes yields the best results. You want every inch of the skillet to be very hot so the pizza cooks perfectly.

After 18 to 20 minutes, you will have the best deep dish pizza ever.

Deep-dish pepperoni pizza

Let the pizza sit untouched for about 10 to 15 minutes after removing it from the Dutch oven. (This is the hardest part of the whole recipe!) By letting the pizza sit, it not only cools but sets more.

Then you can slice in and enjoy.

Deep-dish pepperoni pizza

Deep dish pepperoni pizza recipe

Serves 6-8

Ingredients:

For the dough

  • 3-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons cornmeal
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 teaspoons sugar
  • 2-1/4 teaspoons rapid-rise yeast
  • 1-1/4 cups lukewarm water
  • 8 tablespoons butter, separated
  • 3 teaspoons olive oil
  • Extra cornmeal for sprinkling

For the sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes

For the topping

  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, freshly grated
  • 1/2 package pepperoni slices, or to taste
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • Fresh basil (optional)

Directions:

  1. For the dough, combine the first 5 ingredients, and stir. Add in the water and 4 tablespoons of butter that has been melted and cooled. Stir until well combined, and then knead with your hands for 6 to 8 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl brushed with olive oil, place the dough. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and place it in a warm environment to rise for 45 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, in a large saucepan over medium heat, combine all the sauce ingredients. Stir and adjust seasonings to taste. Allow to simmer on low for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Pour and rub 3 teaspoons of olive oil along the bottom of the Dutch oven or deep dish skillet (I used a 12-inch Dutch oven). Sprinkle cornmeal over the olive oil until it covers the bottom, and then set the skillet aside. Preheat the Dutch oven to 400 degrees F.
  5. Once the dough has risen, roll it out, and spread the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter across 1 side. Roll up the dough from one end to the other and then back into a ball so no butter is visible. Allow to rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Roll out the dough, and place it into the skillet. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly along the bottom of the crust.
  7. Pour 1/2 the sauce over the cheese, and then top with as much pepperoni as desired. I made 1 even layer of pepperoni, but add more or less to preference.
  8. Pour the remaining sauce over the pepperoni, and then sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on top.
  9. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat, and allow the pizza to sit for 10 to 15 minutes before enjoying.

She may have filed for divorce from husband Antonio Banderas, but Melanie Griffith was still wearing her wedding band when she was spotted out and about in Los Angeles.

Just days after announcing her shocking split from Banderas, Griffith was seen on Monday, June 9, stepping out of a salon in LA while sporting her wedding ring. The Working Girl star just confirmed a few days ago she and Banderas are finished, and has even filed for divorce from her husband of 18 years.

But the actress has apparently not parted ways with the telling gold band yet, as she casually wore it while making no effort to hide it from prying photographers, E! News claimed. Meanwhile, eager to know more about her failed relationship, the waiting paps wasted no time in asking her about Banderas.

"Will you guys remain friends?" One photog asked a seemingly unfazed Griffith, and she simply responded with, "I imagine we will."

According to the redheaded star and Banderas' statement, the duo split up amicably and said, "We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost 20 years of marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together."

Meanwhile, Banderas was reportedly very sad about his breakup with Griffith and told his Expendables 3 costar, Natalie Burn, that he wanted to try to fix the marriage. Banderas and Burn initially stirred romance rumors when seen dancing together at the Cannes Film Festival.

However, the Ukraine-born beauty said there was nothing going on with her and the Machete Kills actor other than friendship. She also added that she could see Banderas was still very much in love with Griffith and was upset about the split.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge put her hours in for The Firm today as she made two public appearances for the royals — but not everyone was thrilled to see her.

Kate spent the morning at the breakfast reception to launch the United Kingdom's bid in the America's Cup at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. Greeted by the usual crowds of admirers, one sweet little girl — the young daughter of three-time America's Cup vet Matt Cornwell — was not impressed by Kate and her legendary glossy tresses, preferring to bury her face in her father's shoulder than curtsy.

"She's a keen sailor, she loves her sailing clearly, you can just tell. You can see it in her eyes. It's great for everybody she's got behind it and [is] supporting it," Lord Grade told The Mirror.

Kate later posed next to the Garrad jeweler-designed trophy, perched atop its custom-made Louis Vuitton case, looking fresh in a white crepe shift dress with navy trim from Jaeger, accessorizing with navy Alexander McQueen heels and a navy Stuart Weitzman Muse clutch.

Later in the day, Kate joined the queen, Ann the Princess Royal and Princess Eugenie for a garden party on the grounds of Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 93rd birthday of her grandfather-in-law Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Kate recycled a gold lace Alexander McQueen sheath for the occasion, last seen in 2012 at the Queen's Jubilee service at St. Paul's Cathedral.

Lena Dunham's Late Night interpretive dance: 7 Strangest moves as GIFs

If you thought the end of Girls would give you a much-needed 10-month break from Lena Dunham, you were sadly mistaken. Since apparently she won't be happy until she's ruined everything and everyone, she's still finding the most obnoxious ways possible to invade our lives. This time around, she ruined a perfectly decent episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers and destroyed what could have been an awesome Sia performance by showing up in an all-white suit and doing an interpretive "dance" during Sia's performance of "Chandelier." The results were... interesting.

Ugh. Lena Dunham's dog is a real pain >>

Who are we kidding? They were downright strange. We're all for people who are willing to put themselves out there, but after a while it stops becoming a unique turn of events or overcoming your shyness/insecurities and starts to get tiresome. This clumsy and redundant performance was exactly that. Seriously. How many times does a girl need to do jazz hands around her bulged-out eyes?

Lena Dunham

No, Lena. Just... no. This is gross and disturbing.

Lena Dunham

And by "interpretive dancing" what we really mean is just a bunch of shaking of her blond hair and too much jazz hands.

We imagine this is probably the kind of fit Dunham threw when she (apparently) asked her parents to fund her film Tiny Furniture.

James Franco loves to stir the pot. From naked selfies to trying to seduce a young fan, the current Broadway star is at it again. This time, he wrote a short story for Vice about Lindsay Lohan called "Bungalow 89."

The story addresses the infamous night at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. Lohan claims they slept together while Franco claims he just read her J.D. Salinger stories. Which story is true?

Who's hotter: James Franco vs. Dave Franco >>

The Of Mice and Men actor wrote, "Once upon a time a guy, a Hollywood guy, read some Salinger to a young woman who hadn't read him before. Let's call this girl Lindsay. She was a Hollywood girl, but a damaged one."

He continued, "Salinger would be a companion to young women, real young women, for years, and then, one fateful night, he would sleep with them and the friendship would end. After that, after he f***ed them, they were no longer the innocent ones running through the rye to be caught before they went over the cliff. They had gone over, and he had been the one to push them."

James Franco denies sex with "delusional" Lindsay Lohan >>

The essay fluctuates between fantasy and reality as the This Is the End star takes the reader on a journey that questions whether they hooked up or not in the infamous bungalows at the Hollywood hideout.

He leaves the reader wondering with this final thought, "Every night Lindsay looked for me, and I hid. Out the window was Hollywood."

Even if he didn't sleep with Lohan, he sure wants fans to keep talking about this story.

Continuing on with her strange Bangerz tour, Miley Cyrus told former pal Selena Gomez "F*** you" onstage at a Milan, Italy, concert on Sunday, June 8.

The controversial singer was belting out her new tune "FU" while holding a cardboard cutout of Gomez that depicted the Spring Break star in a bra and with her lower privates drawn in black ink. As she sang, the "Wrecking Ball" crooner angrily looked at the cutout, saying the lyrics, "I got two, ooh, ooh letters for you, one of them's F and the other one's U." She then violently tossed the Gomez-shaped cardboard into the screaming wild audience.

While it is not yet known what the feud between the two former Disney starlets is about, TMZ claimed it was about none other than Justin Bieber. The site reported that Gomez was mad at Cyrus because she got too close to the Canadian pop star last year.

However, Liam Hemsworth's former fiancé denied any romance between her and the notorious teen singer. The two have been pals for years, but have not crossed over to hookup territory, TMZ sources said. Meanwhile, other insiders told Star magazine that during her rehab stint, Gomez told fellow patients that she was struggling over a friend named Miley's betrayal with her then-boyfriend Bieber.

Kicking off the conference, the Maleficent star remembered a victim she spoke to in the past and dedicated the four-day event to her.

"On our way over, we spoke about the women we met recently on our last trip, and in particular, one woman, who said that she had yet to tell her child that she had been raped because she was so humiliated and she could not bring herself to admit it to him," Jolie said.

"And she felt that having had no justice for her particular crime, in her particular situation, and having seen the actual man who raped her on the streets free, she really felt abandoned by the world. On the way over, we thought, 'What is she going to think of this day?' This day is for her."

3. Because of their adorable wrinkly bodies, faces, legs and paws

"Oh, stop it!" No, we can't, you're too irresistible.

4. Because they've got the puppy-dog eye thing down to a science

We can just hear this little guy squealing, "Mommy, I love you. Do you love me too?" Duh! Have you seen your cute face?

5. Because watching them walk for the first time melts your heart as much as it would watching your own child do the same

It's absolutely amazing the first time our human babies walk, but baby Bullies? Prepare yourself for heart-stopping cuteness.

6. Because sleeping, dreaming baby bullies are probably the cutest things you're going to witness... ever.

Forget about your to-do list. Watching baby Bulldogs sleeping just became your number-one priority.

7. Because they grow up to be pretty awesome parents

Of course the puppy is adorable, but do you see his mom? She loves her baby, and we love her because of it.

8. Because they're not scared of anything, anyone or any dog

This puppy has absolutely no fear and no clue how small he really is compared to his very large parent.

9. Because even they believe in hitting the snooze button

If you have a job that requires you to be on time, then you may want to steer clear from English Bulldog puppies. They love to sleep and have no problem waking up just to go right back to dreamland.

10. Because even they can't resist their cuteness

We know that English Bulldog pups are quite possibly the cutest things to ever walk the planet, but we have a strong feeling that they couldn't agree more.

Charlie White is having a good year. Not only did he and partner Meryl Davis win the gold for ice dancing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, but it looks like he just proposed to his longtime girlfriend Tanith Belbin — and she said yes.

VIDEO: Olympians go for the gold in new DWTS lineup >>

The couple was on vacation in Hawaii when he popped the question. He posted a photo of Belbin — and the ring — on Instagram.

Belbin is also an ice dancer who took home the silver medal at the 2006 Olympics.

White's announcement came less than a week after he and Davis announced they'd be taking some time off. After taking home the gold, White and Davis decided to skip the 2014-2015 competitive skating season, according to ESPN.

The teammates have been skating together for 17 years, and have won six U.S. titles, two world championships and a silver at the Vancouver games in 2010. In 2014, they became the first Americans to take home the gold for ice dancing at the Olympics.

"We're so grateful for the support we've received through this truly amazing year in our lives," Davis and White said during their announcement. "Trying to stay in the present, we've decided not to look too far ahead regarding our competitive careers. We'll be taking the 2014-15 season away from competition. We will not make any further decisions until a later date."

Both White and Davis competed in Dancing With the Stars this year, but White was eliminated in the semifinals. Davis later took home the gold in that event as well.

Even though they plan to take a break, White and Davis will still be doing non-competitive shows together. But it will also give White some time with his new fiancée, and a chance to help plan their wedding.

Dads do it differently

We may have to buy bottles of water at the carnival and borrow a friend's sunscreen, but we get the job done. We may simply choose to sit in the shade at the Funky Monkeys concert so we don't have to deal with the sunscreen at all. Personally, I don't know how my wife has the patience to put it on the kids in the first place.

Dads like to forgo the diaper bag. We might, in a fit of genius and engineering, roll a diaper, snack, and change of clothes into such a tight wad that it fits in our back pocket. Or we may assume there will be a mom at the concert who can lend us a diaper in a pinch.

Dads get the job done in our own way. My wife sorts clothes by the season and puts pants away when they become too small. For this I am very grateful. If it were up to me, I fear that my kids would be wearing wool in the summer and size 3T at age 5. Then again, I'd probably just grab the scissors from the kitchen jar that holds 35 unsharpened pencils and trim the pants so Noah could wear them as shorts.

Dads do it differently. Sometimes we get sand all over the kitchen floor after taking the kids to the town lake. And maybe we're not so great about remembering personalized snacks. But ultimately we get the kids fed, even if from a Good Humor truck, and we take the kids on unforgettable adventures. And, most importantly, we love them fiercely. So this Father's Day let's honor dads. We may not do it like Mom, but we keep it interesting and we get the job done.

"Mother's Day is represented by lilies and white doilies while Father's Day showcases a dude on the can. What's up with that? Then again, on any given Saturday my dad did spend like two to three hours on the toilet, so maybe it's on point."

Recently, Gwen has gone back to work part-time after years at home with our boys. Noah couldn’t be happier with the extra daddy time, but for Benji it’s an adjustment.Miadventures of a Parenting yogi | Sheknows.com

This past Sunday was our first full day without Gwen. Noah and I were setting up a puppet show when I realized that Benji was no longer in the den. Last I had seen, he was arranging his toy farm animals inside a fence.

I look around the house. He isn’t in the breezeway playing with his toy car ramp. He is not in Noah’s room having a peek at his brother’s things.

Find out what happens when the yoga dad takes on Father's Day >>

I find him in our bedroom, blankie tucked around his legs. He is trying to open a tube of Weleda skin cream that Gwen uses on his hands and face when he gets eczema. I sit down next to him.

“Do you want help with that?”

A very tiny, “Yes.”

I unscrew the lid, squeeze a blop onto his knuckles, and gently massage it in. I squeeze another blop onto my finger and massage his chin and cheeks. Benji purrs, bathing in the loving touch.

The sun is shining through the window, warming us. Benji and I are cozy and in love, connected, staring into each other’s faces.

“I love you, Benji,” I whisper.

He smiles, soaking it in, basking in it.

And then he looks me right in the eyes, beaming, his tiny face alight, as he says, “I love . . . Mama.”

But it’s not personal. I think right now, for Benji, “I love Mama” is the most powerful phrase he can utter. It’s an ode to love. A magical incantation. It’s like Papa Smurf saying, “Boy, that Brian Leaf, he’s so Smurfy.”

Although, really, who knows, because right after that, still gazing into my eyes, he continues, “And I like goats and some hay.”
