Joe Manganiello on Arnold Schwarzenegger bromance: "I can go as nasty as I want"

Joe Manganiello is no stranger to researching his characters, but to play Joe "Grinder" Phillips, he had to get cozy with real DEAs.

"For four months straight, I worked alongside these guys, and two months leading up to the movie I was doing ride-alongs. I was in the ring when stuff was going down." Wow, that's intense.

Manganiello agreed. "It was also adrenalizing and scary. At one point, I turned to this guy and said, 'You don't wear a vest?' and he said, 'No, if it's my time, it's my time.' I was in some rooms I shouldn't have been in. I saw a lot."

Man Candy Mondays: Joe Manganiello >>

We also wanted to know what it was like to work with Arnold Schwarzenegger, especially since they had such a cantankerous relationship on the screen. In one scene in particular, they are screaming in each other's faces. We asked if he packed in the breath mints.

"Well, in this movie, it was like packing in the chewing tobacco. I would say that, like, 98 percent of law enforcement is chewing tobacco. But it helped that Arnold and I became immediate friends. He wrote the foreword to my book. We've traveled around and we've gone on some adventures in the past year and a half since we stopped filming. It helps me be even nastier when I know that we're friends. I can go as nasty as I want."

We asked Manganiello about why he was sporting cornrows in the film. "One of the undercovers I worked with had cornrows for a while. You want to look like a thug, not like a cop. Like, in Training Day, Denzel looks like a gangster because he has to mix with gangsters."

25 Things to know about Joe Manganiello >>

To really look intimidating, Manganiello gained about 20 pounds of muscle. "A lot of people didn't recognize me," he said.

On being such a daunting dude, he told us, "Probably one of the most defining factors of my life has been being a tall, big guy. You've got to be crammed into some plane coach seats once in a while, or pants that don't fit. But you figure it out."

Sabotage opens in theaters Friday, March 28.

It is a sad time for the Dempsey family because they have lost their matriarch. Patrick Dempsey's mother, Amanda, sadly lost her long battle with ovarian cancer on Monday at age 79.

2013 Do Something Awards to honor Kelly Osbourne & more >>

According to People magazine, the actor's mother had been fighting the disease since 1997.

However, Amanda will not be forgotten because her strong will and courage inspired her children, Patrick and his sisters Mary and Alicia, to partner with the clinic where she had been treated, the Central Maine Medical Center. Together, they founded The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing in their native Lewiston, Maine.

A cause that is close to the Grey's Anatomy star's heart, he revealed to reporters at the opening of the center, "For a family to get a cancer diagnosis is devastating, and all the information out there can be overwhelming. I talked to my sister[s] about a place where people could go for all this type of information and help. Knowledge is power."

The center has been open since 2008, and its mission is to provide "free cancer support, education and integrative medicine services to anyone impacted by cancer, regardless of where treatment is received."

McDreamy to the rescue! Dempsey bids on Tully's Coffee >>

Peter Chalke, the president and CEO of Central Maine Healthcare, expressed his sorrow and condolences to the family after Amanda's passing via a press release.

"The entire Central Maine Medical family mourns the passing of Amanda Dempsey," Chalke said. "Amanda Dempsey was both a great lady and a determined fighter who displayed tremendous courage, class and grace during her long battle with cancer… We will miss Amanda deeply, but we were all blessed by knowing her and being inspired by her life story."

Our thoughts are with the Dempsey family during this sad time.

Overview

Though this breed's ancestry is unknown, one thing is for sure: The Newfoundland is a true workhorse. The ultimate lifeguard, Newfoundlands are natural-born swimmers complete with webbed paws and a heavy coat for hours of treading through cool waters. This gentle giant has a heart of gold and is known to be among the best breeds for households with children.

Breed standards

  • AKC group: Working
  • UKC group: Guardian Dog
  • Average lifespan:  8 - 10 years
  • Average size:  99 - 155 pounds
  • Coat appearance: Thick, long, coarse
  • Coloration: Black, gray, brown and white
  • Hypoallergenic: No
  • Other identifiers: Broad-bodied; muscular, webbed feet; drooping jowls
  • Possible alterations: No

Is this breed right for you?

Although Newfoundlands are huge in size, they do make wonderful apartment pets. They are a low-energy breed and require just enough exercise to keep them at a healthy weight. Due to their coarse coat, Newfoundlands don’t do well in warm climates. This is a lovable breed that thrives on companionship and a family atmosphere. Gentle and caring, Newfoundlands rank among the best breeds for children of all ages.

newfoundland breed characteristics

A dream day in the life of a Newfoundland

Newfoundlands have been nicknamed "nature's nanny" for a reason: they're simply wonderful with kids and have a knack for caregiving. An ideal day would be spent swimming and playing with kids of all ages and sizes. Their large size makes this breed an excellent furry pillow and their sweet disposition means they are more than happy to nap by your side.

Overview

Bred to sit on the laps of royals, the ever-so-elegant Italian Greyhound was born to be a lap dog. Today, this breed is less picky and happy to sit on any commoner's lap. This low-maintenance pup requires moderate activity and a quick bath every now and then. Their short and odorless coat make them excellent pets for allergy sufferers. Due to this breed's dislike of extreme weather conditions, many owners choose to litter-train their Italian Greyhounds, making this breed among the most low-maintenance of all.

Breed standards

  • AKC group: Toy
  • UKC group: Companion Dog
  • Average lifespan: 12 - 15 years
  • Average size:  6 - 10 pounds
  • Coat appearance: Short, smooth, fine
  • Coloration: Varies
  • Hypoallergenic: Yes
  • Other identifiers: Slender, delicate bone structure; elegant and graceful demeanor
  • Possible alterations: None

Is this breed right for you?

Due to their small body structure and fragile bone density, it's best to keep this breed away from young children. Also, Italian Greyhounds only thrive with mounds of attention and therefore do better in a quiet environment where one-on-one time is spent cuddling and napping. Not a fan of cold weather, this breed must be provided with ample winter coats and booties if you live in a cold environment. This breed can be skittish and aloof; owners are encouraged to begin socialization and training early on.

italian greyhound breed characteristics

A dream day in the life of an Italian Greyhound

Whether out in the country or in the city, this breed loves to be alongside a loving human counterpart. They're incredibly fast runners and a day that includes light exercise would suit this breed's activity needs. On a cold day, an Italian Greyhound would prefer a warm coat and booties to stay comfortable but would rather be indoors, quietly enjoying a nap on a loving owner's lap.

Freezer meals: The ultimate time-saver

$

Freezer meals are the best way to show someone you care. Instead of bringing over an already cooked, warm casserole dish they'll have to eat that same day, bring over a dish that's frozen and they can consume whenever they need it most.

New moms are most appreciative of this, especially if you bring over an entire themed meal: Frozen lasagna, bread or rolls and a few bags of salad light up their world during these newborn times.

Have a sick family member close by? Simmer some chicken noodle soup, portion into quart containers and bring them over for them to freeze and enjoy at their leisure.

Amanda Bynes adds new happy and healthy Twitter pictures
Photo credit: via Amanda Bynes Twitter

Amanda Bynes is clearly a much happier and healthier person now than she was last year. The whole world watched as the star suffered from a public breakdown that included a string of bizarre antics, such as pouring gasoline on her pet pooch, throwing a bong out of the window, calling almost everyone ugly via Twitter and trying to set fire to a stranger's driveway!

However, it appears the time the Easy A actress spent in The Canyon Treatment Center in Malibu, California, along with the continued love and support from her parents, has helped her deal with whatever emotional turmoil she had been going through at the time. And now the star's Twitter page reflects a much happier person.

Gone are the strange blue wigs and raunchy selfies from Bynes' account. She has deleted all those crazy tweets and replaced them with pictures of her new sketches and lovely snapshots from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Debut Runway Show held in Santa Monica, California, on Friday.

The photos from the FIDM event show Bynes with her parents Rick and Lynn, and she's looking beautiful, healthy and dare we say normal.

Bynes is a fashion student at FIDM, and she appears to be making a fresh start and leaving her troubled past behind her. We're very happy to see that Bynes has reconnected with her family, and their love and support have no doubt been what she needed on her road to recovery.

Pregnant Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher

Mila Kunis

Surprise! Cute couple Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are not only engaged, but they are also expecting their first child together.

"They kept it a secret as long as they could," a source told E! News. "But obviously, she's been starting to show so it was just a matter of time in recent days.

Kunis, 30, and Kutcher, 36, have been dating since 2012, with the Two and a Half Men star finalizing his divorce from Demi Moore in 2013, after a two year separation. This is the first child for both of them.

Don't expect Kunis to start gushing about her pregnancy cravings or talk about baby names anytime soon, insists the source. "She is so private she probably won't ever talk about it — at least not publicly," the insider says. "She and Ashton don't want to share this with the world. They've been like that for their entire relationship. Ashton knows what it's like having a very public relationship and doesn't want it again."

The couple, who first met when they appeared on the sitcom That ‘70s Show together, were spotted together at the Lakers basketball game shortly after their pregnancy news went public — and they even appeared on the “Kiss Cam.” Kunis kept her midsection concealed in a baggy gray sweater, however the couple had fun hamming it up for the camera.

<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Kunis hinted in an interview with Interview in 2012 that she wanted to start a family soon. "Listen, in five years I do hope to have a family, and, you know, who knows?" she said. "I've always been a big proponent of not working for the sake of working, because I don't want to work for the rest of my life — I want to live."

Stacy Keibler

There may be a reason that Stacy Keibler wasted no time in marrying her boyfriend, tech entrepreneur Jared Pobre, in a surprise wedding in Mexico a few weeks ago, as she just announced she is also pregnant.

The 34-year-old former professional wrestler and model (and former girlfriend of George Clooney) had fun with her pregnancy announcement on Instagram, showing a picture of a bun in the oven. “Look what we’ve got cooking! A Bun’dle of love!” she captioned the photo.

 <iframe src="//instagram.com/p/l7nb5WpU36/embed/" width="612" height="710" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" allowtransparency="true"></iframe>

Keibler and Pobre have known each other for over five years, however they didn’t start dating until last fall after she split from Clooney, whom she dated for two years.

“Both Jared and I didn’t think that we were ever going to get married or have kids… When you meet the right person, everything changes,” Keibler told People.

“I’m so excited for the new chapter in my life,” she said. “I’m so ready for it. I feel for the first time like I’m really fulfilled and at peace.”

Milano and her husband, David Bugliari, have been married since 2009 and she has confessed in the past that she wants more kids, especially for her 2-year-old son Milo.

“I want to have another child, just because I want Milo to have a sibling and have someone to grow with. My brother and I are so close, and I can’t imagine not giving my son that kind of relationship.”

Milano expressed her excitement and thanked her fans for their support after her big pregnancy news.

Fan favorite Bachelorette couple Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum are going to be parents. The happy duo announced on Wednesday, March 26 that they are expecting a baby.

Hebert and Rosenbaum are the first couple from The Bachelorette reality dating show to get married and now they will be the first on the series to have a baby, People magazine reported. The happy pair joins others on a short list from The Bachelor franchise to get married and start families.

Ashley Hebert interviews celebs for SheKnows at NYFW >>

"They are both so thrilled, J.P. is especially excited; they have both wanted this for a while," an insider told People.

Married on a televised ceremony in December 2012, which was officiated by the show's host Chris Harrison, Hebert and Rosenbaum got engaged on the seventh season of the series in August 2011. Shortly after their wedding, the lovebirds told People that they were already thinking about having children in the near future.

"Once Ashley's done with her residency and we figure out where she's going to work, then we'll start thinking about family," J.P. said. "But it's not far off."

Creamy individual polenta and mushroom ragu pots

The thing I love about polenta is that it's quick. Most comfort foods seem to take hours on end to get that creamy, comforting goodness to them. Polenta does that in about 10 minutes on the stove. Can't beat that. These individual pots of creamy, cheesy polenta and mushroom ragu prove that you don't need meat to get a hearty satisfying meal.

Individual creamy polenta and mushroom ragu pots recipe

Serves 2-4

Ingredients:

For the polenta

  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup polenta
  • 1/2 cup grated Italian blend cheese (mozzarella and/or Parmesan)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the mushroom ragu

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 shallot, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped rosemary
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • Splash red wine (about 1-2 tablespoons)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Creamy individual polenta and mushroom ragu pots

Directions:

  1. Bring the broth and milk to a boil in a medium saucepan.
  2. Meanwhile, start the mushrooms by heating the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the shallots and rosemary and sauté for 2 minutes. Add the mushrooms, toss to coat in the olive oil and cook for 10 minutes until they've released all their water and browned. Add the wine and let reduce for another 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, turn off the heat and set aside.
  3. Once milk and broth mixture is boiling, reduce the heat to low and slowly pour in the polenta. Stir constantly for about 10 minutes until thickened.
  4. Add the cheese and butter and stir until melted. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Pour the polenta into individual ramekins and top with a spoonful of the mushroom ragu.
  6. Garnish with more grated cheese.

How to tell if your teen is using drugs

$

0
Two students with Marijuana | Sheknows.com

Drugs affect teens regardless of gender, race or income level. It doesn’t matter how well you’ve raised your kids — illicit substances and the intense social pressure teens experience can still influence their lives.

Drugs aren't picky, know the signs

by Zeynep Ilgaz

As a parent, your most powerful tool is information. Knowing which drugs are available to teens, as well as the warning signs of drug abuse, is the first step to keeping drugs out of your home. Once you’re informed, you’re ready to talk to your kids about drugs.

Drug use on the rise

Teens are growing increasingly accepting of marijuana, according to the 2013 study by Monitoring the Future, an annual survey of teen substance abuse behavior sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.

"Less than 40 percent view regular marijuana use as harmful."

Among high school seniors, less than 40 percent view regular marijuana use as harmful, and 36 percent reported using it at least once in the past year. And it starts young — more than 12 percent of eighth graders reported using marijuana in the past year.

A full 40 percent of seniors have used some kind of illicit drug in the past year, while 32 percent of tenth graders and 15 percent of eighth graders reported doing the same.

What are they taking? Teens report using synthetic marijuana, unauthorized prescription drugs (e.g., Adderall, Oxycodone, and Vicodin), inhalants, ecstasy (and its recently popular relative, MDMA, or “Molly”), hallucinogens, bath salts, cocaine and heroin.

Teens may acquire these drugs at parties, through their friends or online via social networking sites. And, of course, free time after school is dangerous for kids who have nothing to do. Often, teens start using drugs to seem cool (rarely with the intention of harming their bodies), so keeping an eye on the crowd your teen hangs out with after school is important.

Know the signs

It can be hard to know whether teens are using drugs, but if they are, it’s absolutely vital to get them help as quickly as possible. Here are a few warning signs to look for if you suspect your teen has used drugs.

Physical signs

  • Bloodshot or red eyes
  • Unexplained bruises
  • Slurring or difficulty speaking
  • Sudden changes in appearance or weight
  • Sudden lack of attention to hygiene
  • Changes in sleep patterns or abnormal fatigue
  • Persistent coughing

Social signs

  • Lack of interest in activities they normally enjoy
  • Disassociation from friends or hanging out with a new social group
  • Falling grades
  • Truancy or sneaky behavior
  • Frequently staying out late or leaving for extended periods of time
  • Sudden anger or agitation when asked about behavioral changes
  • Avoiding eye contact

Emotional signs

  • Abnormally aggressive or argumentative responses
  • Depression or withdrawal from social activities
  • Irritability
  • Lack of judgment

Behavioral signs

  • Abnormal odor on breath or clothing
  • Prescription medications, alcohol or money disappearing from the household
  • Failure to meet responsibilities at work, school or extracurricular activities
  • Notification from a teacher, coach or employer of abnormal behavior
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Any of these may indicate a problem, but be especially wary if you spot a combination of these warning signs in your teen.

Woman moving boxes

Before anything else, research the cost of living in your new place. This will help you determine how much money you'll need to make to cover your expenses, and how much you'll have to spend on rent or a mortgage.

6 Things to consider before choosing a new neighborhoodpacking boxs

  1. Crime and safety.
  2. Proximity to your job (Do you mind a long commute? Will you need to utilize public transportation?).
  3. If you have kids or plan on having kids in the near future, you'll want to consider which areas have the best school districts.
  4. Is it important to you to be close to entertainment like bars, nightclubs, sporting events, restaurants, shows and shopping?
  5. How close do you want to be to places like grocery stores, coffee shops, drugstores and gas stations? What about doctor and dentist offices or urgent care clinics?
  6. Do you need a family-friendly area with parks and recreational spots?

7 Things to avoid while scoping out a new area

  1. Avoid areas that have buildings with abandoned lots, broken windows, bars over windows, graffiti and poor street lighting.
  2. Pay attention to whether there are homes with lawns that have not been mowed, trash that hasn't been picked up, overgrown weeds and broken fences or mailboxes.
  3. Be wary of neighborhoods without sidewalks or pedestrians — look for families playing in their yards or walking with dogs and strollers.
  4. Several "for rent" or "for sale" signs are an indication that people want out of the neighborhood — there must be a reason!
  5. Do research on foreclosures, as several foreclosed homes can be a sign of a financially unstable area.
  6. An area with unwanted noises and smells can be undesirable — think about whether or not you can tolerate living near train tracks, local restaurants and bars, airports, fire departments, police stations and medical centers, all of which can result in troublesome air or noise pollution.
  7. Living next door to a stadium, church, school, museum or any other large public facility can be a lot of fun, but it can also bring in a lot of traffic and strangers.

4 Resources for finding a good area to live

  1. Crowdsource on your social media sites. People love to share their knowledge!
  2. NeighborhoodScout uses research to tell you about the best neighborhoods in your state.
  3. StreetAdvisor helps you "discover and explore the best places to live."
  4. CrimeReports tells you what crimes have been reported in your area.

Renting vs. buying

Are you deciding whether you should buy or rent a home in your new city? If you plan on staying in your new town permanently, you should consider buying — that is, if you're ready for the responsibilities of home ownership. If you don't plan on staying more than five years, or are going to wait and see if you like it there before deciding to make it a permanent move, renting might be the better option.

Should you rent or buy? >>

New home buying tips

Sold sign

If you're ready for the commitment, buying a home that you can call your own might be a wise investment. Here is everything you need to know about buying a home:

If you plan to rent

If you're able, use social media to help you find your new apartment. Crowdsource on Facebook and ask your friends for tips on where to live, and be specific about what you're looking for. This includes how many bedrooms, price range and, if you already know, which neighborhood you're looking into. There are also many reputable websites that you can use as resources to find rentals, including Apartments.com, HotPads.com and Rentals.com, to name a few.

Here are more resources to help you on your way to renting:

Thai grilled corn with salty coconut cream (Khao phot ping)

Grilled corn with salty coconut cream (Khao phot ping)

"To my tastes, the corn in Thailand is, to be charitable, not awesome. But as soon as I tried this preparation from a vendor on the grounds of a Chiang Mai temple, I couldn't wait to try it back home. The combination of rich, salty coconut cream infused with pandan leaf and America's stunning sweet corn is so good it gives the mayo- and cheese-covered Mexican stuff a run for its money!" — Andy Ricker

Try it with: Anything grilled, like kai yaang (whole roasted young chicken) or sii khrong muu yaang (Thai-style pork ribs). You can find both of these recipes in the book.

Special equipment: A charcoal grill (highly recommended), grates oiled

Grilled corn with salty coconut cream (Khao phot ping)

Serves 6 to 12 as part of a meal or as a snack

Ingredients:

  • 6 large ears corn, husked
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut cream (preferably boxed)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 fresh or frozen pandan leaf, tied into a knot (optional)
  • 6 lime wedges (preferably from Key limes)

Directions:

For the corn

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add the corn and cook until it's tender and no longer raw, about 8 minutes. Drain well.

Note

You can boil the corn up to several hours before you plan to finish cooking it on the grill or even a few days in advance; just make sure to shock the corn in ice water as soon as the ears leave the boiling water.

For the coconut cream

  1. Combine the coconut cream, sugar, salt and pandan leaf in a small pot. It's fine if the pandan leaf isn't completely submerged.
  2. Set the pot over high heat, bring the mixture to a simmer (don't let it boil), then decrease the heat to low.
  3. Cover and cook until the cream has thickened slightly and is infused with pandan flavor, about 10 minutes.
  4. Remove and discard the pandan leaf.

Grill the corn

  1. Prepare a grill, preferably charcoal, to cook over medium heat (see page 124) or preheat a lightly oiled grill pan over medium heat on the stovetop.
  2. Pour the cream mixture onto a large plate or platter. One or 2 at a time, add the corn, and rotate the ears to lightly coat them in the mixture.
  3. Grill the corn until it’s lightly charred in spots, occasionally turning the ears and brushing the corn with the cream mixture (or transferring the corn to the plate with the cream mixture and rotating it again), 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. Serve the corn with a drizzle of the remaining cream mixture and lime wedges for squeezing.

About the book

Grilled corn with salty coconut cream (Khao phot ping)

Andy Ricker's cookbook, Pok Pok, begins by dispelling two specific myths for the reader: Thai food is too laborious to make at home, and you won't be able to find the right ingredients. The recipes in this book are thoughtfully designed to be made with ingredients you can find in the U.S. The directions are detailed and straightforward so the reader can clearly follow along. So what's stopping you?

There are 70 recipes and fabulous photos in Pok Pok, plus so much more. You'll find somewhat standard sections, like an overview of ingredients, mail order resources and even equipment. Andy easily covers Thai meals, from a proper meal (many dishes shared along with rice) to one-plate meals to sweets.

In addition, there is information on specific regions of Thailand to include flavor and seasoning profiles, the types of rice used in dishes from the region and a list of the iconic dishes from each region.

These recipes are not only favorites from Thailand, but favorites from Andy's Pok Pok restaurants, too. Throughout the pages, each recipe includes a flavor profile of the dish, suggestions for other dishes to serve as part of your meal, a plan of action for prep and any special equipment you might need. You'll also find rich stories of the author's time in Thailand.

This year, Pok Pok has been nominated in the "Best New Cookbook" category of the Munchies: People's Choice Food Awards, which celebrates the best of the best of food in America. For these awards, the public votes for favorites in a variety of categories.

Should your teen have a prepaid credit card?

$

Teen girls shopping online with credit card

A prepaid credit card is similar to a gift card. You deposit money onto the card, and the card is then accepted anywhere that accepts regular credit cards. For example, you can deposit $500 onto the card, and whenever you use the card, that amount is subtracted from your total balance. There are no monthly payments to remember, and the card does not accrue interest like normal credit cards do. That being said, it might be the route you want to go when teaching your teen good money management.

Pros of prepaid credit cards for teens

Develop good money-management skills. Similar to a debit card, a prepaid credit card will teach your teen to manage his or her money. If you load on a set amount each month, it’s up to your teen to make sure the money is rationed out so he or she is not broke by week two.

Control spending. With checking accounts and regular credit cards, you can spend more than you have. Though you will pay a fee, some teens are not concerned with that. Having a prepaid credit card makes it so you cannot spend any more than is on the card.

Easy to use. As a parent, prepaid credit cards are extremely easy to use. You can load money on electronically from your checking account, or you can have a monthly automatic transfer set up. Prepaid credit cards can also be used to book hotels or to rent a car, which requires a credit card on file.

Cons of prepaid credit cards for teens

Won’t help your teen’s credit. Some people assume that because it’s a credit card, that it can help their credit score. Unfortunately, that’s just not the case. Prepaid credit card payments do not get reported to the three main credit bureaus (TransUnion, Experian and Equifax) and will not help build or establish your FICO score.

There are fees associated with the card. All prepaid credit cards come with fees. Fees can range from one-time setup fees to monthly fees to fees from withdrawing money from an ATM. All of the fees come directly out of your balance, which can greatly reduce the amount of money available for spending.

Reloading with cash is difficult. You can reload the prepaid credit card easily online by means of transferring money, but if you have a cash deposit, it can be more of a hassle. With cash deposits, you need to go back to where you purchased the card in order to reload.

The best prepaid credit cards for teens

If you do decide to go with a prepaid credit card for your teen, you’ll want to do your research and go with the most-affordable one for your family. Look for cards with no activation fees, easy deposit options and a rewards or rebates system, if possible.

Good options include the Visa Buxx, where it's super easy to track spending and thus boosts financial responsibility; the UPside Clear from Visa, which is flexible, cheap and convenient for you and your teen; and PASS from American Express, which will replace your funds if the card is lost or stolen.

Whichever method (prepaid card, checking account or student credit card) you decide is right for your teen, discuss finances regularly and openly. A card cannot teach good money habits — only you can. Discuss your options with your teen, and decide what works best for you as a family.

INTERVIEW: Vikings explores polygamy and the "other woman" complex >>

Rollo has really come into his own this season and that has never been more obvious than when he was charged with protecting his brother Ragnar's family last week. His impulses have often gotten him in trouble. When Season 2 started, the brother were more enemies than friends... especially after Rollo went after Ragnar's BFF, Floki. Ragnar paid for Rollo's forgiveness in the matter and since then he's continued to grow, all while being mostly shunned by Kattegat.

When Jarl Borg showed up last week, Rollo (Clive Standen) was poised for a fight to the death to defend Kattegat. However, for once, Rollo's conscience got the better of him and he reeled in his impulses, retreating to the mountains with Ragnar's heirs. What will happen this week, though?

SPOILERS: Vikings cast spills Season 2 details >>

Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) has returned with Bjorn as a full-grown (and strapping) man and soldiers from her new husband's town. While she'll have to contend with her first love's new marriage to Aslaug, she'll also put another pairing on the line. Rollo's lust for Lagertha is no secret. In the first season, we saw him try to get to her and fail. On the one hand, Lagertha is married to someone new... albeit unhappily. She undoubtedly still loves Ragnar, too. On the other hand, if she can't have her first love, will she settle for Rollo? We certainly would. But, we're not fierce and fiery shield maidens. From the looks of this exclusive clip, Lagertha can have him, if she wants him. But what will happen to Siggy in the process?

What will happen if Rollo decides to take his chances, again, and goes after Lagertha? Will Siggy be left high and dry? If Rollo reacts to his impulses yet again, could he also further jeopardize his relationship with his brother Ragnar? The Vikings saga continues Thursday, March 27, on History at 10/9c.

Gwyneth Paltrow reportedly kissing ex before split news

New reports claim that Gwyneth Paltrow was seen smooching her ex Donovan Leitch just a few months before her split from Chris Martin was announced.

Back in September 2013, a photo was taken of Paltrow and Leitch locking lips while at a Los Angeles Dodgers game, Radaronline reported. No big deal was made of it at the time, but now that Paltrow and Martin's separation has been made official, that conspicuous kiss may raise some questions.

Gwyneth Paltrow advises revealing yourself regularly >>

Paltrow brought her two children to the game, but Martin was nowhere to be seen, and when asked about the kissing photo he refused to comment on the kiss in question. However, Paltrow said that the day was just an outing between pals and there was nothing to it.

At the time of the kissing field trip, Leitch was married to model Kirsty Hume, who he announced his own separation from a while later. No word yet on whether Paltrow was the cause of her friend's split, however, but it now seems quite plausible.

Paltrow and Leitch dated for a while before the actress famously hooked up with Brad Pitt. Meanwhile, before being with the 41-year-old star, Leitch was involved with Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles for three years in the late '80s.

Is Gwyneth Paltrow cheating on Chris Martin? >>

Upon announcing their split, Gwyneth revealed that she and Martin had been dealing with marital issues for over a year. While they allegedly tried to make things work, her kiss with Leitch now seems more of a likely romantic possibility

However, further proving that their separation is mutual and amicable, Paltrow and Martin decided to take off on a Bahamas family trip together to avoid the media fallout of their breakup announcement.

A Mail online source said that "going away together may seem unusual but that's Gwyneth and Chris." The insider added that "it might sound like a line that they're happier than they've ever been, but the relief is massive, they can enjoy being friends again now."

It looks like one Scandal star has found himself in his own real-life scandal. Columbus Short has a warrant out for his arrest stemming from a March 15 bar fight in Los Angeles.

According to TMZ, the ABC star allegedly punched a guest at an engagement party after the man exchanged words with the actor. The victim was knocked unconscious for several minutes and suffered from a broken nose.

Who's hotter: Scandal's Scott Foley vs. Columbus Short >>

A source reported to the gossip site that the man said to Short, "You might be richer than me but I get my girls to buy me everything I want, including your wife."

The warrant is for one count of felony-aggravated battery because the victim's injuries were considered serious. If Short is convicted he faces a maximum sentence of four years in state prison.

The 31-year-old star has not turned himself in yet and his bond has been set at $50,000.

M.I.A. mocks NFL lawsuit by asking Madonna for $16 million >>

This isn't the first time Short has found his temper to get the best of him. He was involved in a fight in March 2010 during a basketball game at an LA Fitness facility. He wound up punching the man in the face and knocked out some of his teeth.

Short plays Harrison Wright on the drama, currently in its third season on ABC. There has been no comment from the actor or the network regarding the matter.

Robin Thicke: Paula Patton and I are both very happy

Robin Thicke wasn't shy about publicly attempting to get his wife Paula Patton back after they announced their split, and now he is opening up about that fight.

5 Reasons the Thicke/Patton split was inevitable >>

The "Blurred Lines" singer was on tour when Patton announced the couple was parting ways, and he reportedly canceled his next few dates to try to win his wife back. Thicke finally opened up about that move to People, and why he felt his music was the best way to express to his wife how he feels about her.

"My music is very honest about what I'm going through and my songs are about my life," he said. "And my relationship with her was 21 years of my life, so I just thought it was important to me to let people know how much she means to me."

Patton hasn't opened up about those messages, at least not publicly, but Thicke said she did appreciate them.

"She loved it," he explained. "She thought it was the sweetest thing and very romantic, and I've always been a romantic guy that way."

When asked if the couple would be getting back together, Thicke seemed to sidestep the question, and said they're doing much better — although wasn't clear if that was together or alone.

Robin Thicke grateful someone still loves him after split >>

"We're both doing well. We're both very happy right now — much happier," he said. "Everything about this moment in my life — this amazing year I just had and what I'm going through personally — has actually ignited some of the best writing I've done in a long time."

That writing will be heard in his new music, and the singer didn't miss the opportunity to promote his next album.

"Whatever everybody's wondering about, they're going to hear it all in the album," he said, adding that his goal for the rest of the year is to "be a great father… and be a great friend to Paula."
