Elton John's Back-to-School Pics of His Sons Prove He's Just a Regular Dad

Sir Elton John may be one of the most famous people in the world, but guess what? He's just your average dad — which means he was proud to post this absolutely adorable shot of his two little lads heading back to school.

After all, what's an Oscar, a handful of Grammy Awards and an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame when your heart is bursting with parental pride?

John and his husband, David Furnish (who is tagged in the Insta shot, of course) welcomed both sons via the same surrogate. Zachary was born in 2010, and his little brother Elijah joined the happy family just a little bit later in early 2013.

Seeing these boys all grown-up-looking and dressed up in their school uniforms, complete with hats and packs, is almost too much for us to bear. John himself waxes nostalgic about the photo, as he muses how fast the boys are growing up — and how he loves them "more and more" every day.

So, after a summer full of adventures, including watching the family's favorite football team (Watford F.C.) complete a comeback win, it was time for the warm-weather holidays to come to an end and time for the kids to go back to school. Incidentally, John was a former owner of Watford, and is a lifelong supporter, so it's only natural that the family's two young sons are huge fans as well.

We hear you, Sir Elton. Now please just tell us where you got your coordinating family tailored blazers, please.

There is exactly one good thing to be said about allergies and that is that at least they’re not contagious. Otherwise, these reactions to irritants, with symptoms that include itchy eyes, runny noses, sneezing and headaches are exactly what you don’t want to experience, much less stand by and watch your children suffer through.

Although there’s no way to banish allergies altogether, it’s a good idea to be aware of the seasonal triggers in the United States. That way you’re well-equipped to avoid them when possible, and jump into action should a reaction occur. Below, what you need to know about six of the most common late summer and early fall allergens.

Everything We Know About the New Season of American Horror Story

Each year, American Horror Story mastermind Ryan Murphy comes up with a new creative concept that will define every new installment in his hit FX anthology series. For season eight, he's chosen the theme Apocalypse, and it comes with a bit of a twist that has fans champing at the bit for the premiere to finally air (it officially arrives on Sept. 12). The spin on the series gives longtime viewers new perspectives on the characters they love from the previous seasons Murder House and Coven while also drawing us into the new dark storyline of Apocalypse.

More: Ryan Murphy Teases a Big Cast Reunion for American Horror Story Season 8

We decided to gather all the intel we could on the upcoming season because there are so many juicy things to get excited about. From familiar faces to behind-the-scenes changes, American Horror Story: Apocalypse is going to make a big splash during the 2018 – 2019 television landscape. It might be Murphy's best and most twisted concept to date.

Here are the five things you need to know right now:

1. There will be a crossover

It's a crossover between two beloved seasons of American Horror Story Murder House and Coven. Murder House was the series' first season, while Coven was the theme for the show's third season. Murphy revealed the news in June via Twitter, so he's had fans talking about all the story possibilities all summer long.

2. Apocalypse will have a familiar all-star cast

We don't even know where to begin with this incredible cast for season eight. EW confirmed returning and new characters for Apocalypse. Here's how it breaks down.

Returning character includes Sarah Paulson playing Billie Dean (Murder House), Cordelia Goode as Miss Robichaux (Coven) and a new character by the name of Venable. Emma Roberts is back from the Coven dead as the deliciously bratty Madison Montgomery. Jessica Lange returns as her Murder House character, Constance Langdon, for an episode.

In the biggest news spilled by The WrapConnie Britton and Dylan McDermott are also back to reprise their Murder House roles. Could this cast get any better? Well, yes!

More: 11 Thoughts We Had While Watching Ryan Murphy's New FX Show Pose

Don't forget about some of our favorite Coven cast members who are set to return — Taissa Farmiga, Gabourey Sidibe, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy and Stevie Nicks.

Joining Apocalypse as new characters are Kathy Bates as Ms. Meade, Adina Porter as Dina Stevens, Leslie Grossman as Coco St. Pierre-Vanderbilt , Evan Peters as a hairdresser and Billie Lourd as Mallory. Joan Collins will come in as Peters' character's grandmother for a guest spot and Cody Fern has been cast as a grown-up Michael Langdon — the character was born during the Murder House season.

Don't forget Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Kyle Allen, and Billy Porter all have what are currently mystery roles on the upcoming series.

3. The time frame will add to the mystery

When does this epic crossover take place? Well, it's a bit of a conundrum if you follow a bit of the leaked storyline.

“It’s a character from Season 1 that will be thrust into the world that you are left with at the end of Coven, which is sort of like the male/female/witch academy,” Murphy told EW in January 2017. “And then all of those characters will intertwine, which is confusing because some of them are from Seasons 1 and 3."

We now know that Season 1 character is Michael Langdon, but the timeline of his birth in 2012 to a show that reportedly takes place "18 months from now" is a little off since he plays a 30-year-old Antichrist.

And some of the Coven witches are dead, so is there a flashback or are they resurrected from the dead? Is surviving the apocalypse done by lottery, as a new teaser seems to indicate? However this story plays out, it's pretty clear that Murphy did some intricate plotline planning.

“The story begins with the end of the world and then our world begins,” shared executive producer Alexis Martin Woodall at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour.

4. There will be plenty of great directors on board

The show is getting some great and familiar directors this season. Who better to helm an episode than someone who has been embedded in the series season after season? Sarah Paulson will direct episode six, which features Jessica Lange. Evan Peters will also step up to the director plate in a yet-to-be-decided episode.

5. The costumes will be killer

The hair, the makeup and the complete looks are a big part of the AHS series. We got a sneak peek at one of Paulson's characters, while the cast also revealed at TCAs that Bates will be sporting a shaved head on both sides and that hair that remains will be dyed black. For Grossman, she gets to wear a cage over her head for a portion of the series. It's always a dramatic look!

Don't miss all the mysteries as they reveal themselves on American Horror Story: Apocalypse when it premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 12 on FX.

Beyoncé's Birthday Letter to Herself Highlights Her 'Monumental' Year

Beyoncé celebrated a momentous occasion just after the holiday weekend: On Tuesday, the singer, songwriter and mother of three turned 37 years old. While she and husband, Jay-Z, spent the day in Italy, Beyoncé chose to spend the next day reflecting on her 36th year — and the year to come — as she wrote a letter to herself titled "Your Bitch at 36" and later posted it on her website

More: 20 Inspiring Beyoncé Quotes About Motherhood

She began the letter by stating everything that happened to her in 2017 and thus far in 2018: “At 36, I became a mother of three," she writes. "I breastfed twins. I renewed vows with my husband of ten years. I came back home to the stage to do Coachella, after pregnancy."

But that wasn't all. In fact, Beyoncé was just getting started. After Coachella earlier this year, "my husband and I released our album together, Everything is Love. And we’ve been touring with our whole family around the world, and loving it."

Of course, that is a lot to do in one year. A lot. But Beyoncé doesn't appear to be overwhelmed by her life and work schedule. Instead, the singer is thankful — thankful for her family, for God and for everyone in her life.

"This year has been monumental for me. I thank God for everyone in my life. Thank you for all the positivity and for the beautiful birthday wishes. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn from my past, living in the present, and surrendering to the future.”

She then closed out the letter by sending love to her fans: "I love you, Hive. B."

Of course, Beyoncé wasn't the only one reflecting on her birthday. Her mother, Tina Knowles Lawson, celebrated the day by posting a picture of a 4-month-old Beyoncé on Instagram.

“Happy Birthday to the nicest, owner of the most beautiful, generous, loving hearts ever," Knowles Lawson wrote. "Brilliant too! Always thinking, planning, analyzing, strategizing, how you can make everything you touch better... enjoy your B-Day !!! No one deserves it more !! I love you Mom."

And Knowles Lawson is right: Beyoncé deserves to have a great day and a great year, and we can't wait to see what 37 brings.

I Was a Suicidal Teen — These 4 Questions Changed My Mind

$

Earlier this summer, when I read that Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain had died by suicide, my first emotion wasn’t sadness. It was recognition — a gut-level click of understanding. My first thought? "I get it, friend."

Is it not kosher to say that in public? Good. All the more reason to tell the truth. Given the rising suicide rates, it's more important than ever before to spark an honest dialogue — to normalize words like, “I feel desperate. I want to die.”

So, are you guys ready to rip out the seams and lay bare the truth about suicidal ideation? Cool.

As a teen, I was a half-inch from suicide. My first sixteen years taught me that nobody liked me, let alone loved me. And I saw zero proof that anything would change as I got older. I lived thisclose to making that choice — to executing my plan. When one more unspeakable trauma hit, that was the end.

But then it wasn’t. I didn’t do it. An intervention visit to a psychiatrist played a huge role, as did the double dosage of Prozac she prescribed. But in the deciding moment — when it was me alone, desperate and needing to halt reality — there were two things that stopped my hand.

The first was an inborn, hard-driving need to someday become a writer. I was hell-bent. I wanted to be “a real writer” more than I wanted a loving family, more than I wanted a rich, gorgeous lover to swoop in and save the day. I wanted to be a writer so badly, I was unwilling to die without earning that title.

The other was birds. And trees. And wind. Outside had always been my safe place. Some invisible something in nature met a need that ran deeper than my human-inflicted wounds. In my do-or-die moment, I heard a bird singing and realized, “Wait. If I’m gone, I won’t have birds anymore.” And nope. Unacceptable. Not giving up birds.

These two pure loves threw up a barrier. By giving me hope for the future, and an accessible joy right now, they halted my actions; they gave me a reason to make a new plan and seek professional help. They kept me alive.

Decades have passed since my suicidal adolescence. I’ve spent them working my ass off to reach my crucial goal — see my byline, above! — and fulfilling my mission to support struggling teens. Along the way, I’ve built my dream life, including a backyard with every bird, bug and animal you can imagine. I have the mental space to reflect on how close I came to suicide, and the ladders I used to climb to stable mental health. But still. Sometimes I’m caught off guard.

My work with teens involves speaking at schools. I had the opportunity last fall to present at my own high school. Twenty-seven years after fleeing, I flew back and spoke to students in the “media center” — code for library — where I had spent every lunch period hiding from the kids I was sure were laughing at me. Afterward, at a signing at the local bookstore, a woman came in, breathless and flushed. “Are you Cyndy Etler?” she said. I didn’t recognize her. I didn’t know her name. But somehow, she knew mine.

Twenty-eight years prior, it turns out, she’d been a depressed, bullied kid who hid in the library during lunch. This week, she had seen an article in the paper about my book signing. She came to the bookstore to say, with tears in her eyes, “Every day, you walked by where I was sitting with my head down. Every day, you asked how I was doing. You were the only person who talked to me. I’ve never forgotten that.”

Memory is tricky. While I remember white-hot the uglier details of my childhood, I have zero memory of speaking to that girl — which apparently I did, five days a week for a year or two. Did my brain lock onto the scary stuff and skim right over the good? And if that’s the case, could there have been more good happening in my life, too — but I was too clouded with pain to register it?

The woman in the bookstore put a sharp point on another vital question: If I had killed myself, what effect would that have had on her? Pulling the camera back further, what effect would it have had on the thousands of teens I’ve taught and coached, who refer to me as “Mom”? I don’t think they would be dead… but would they be as alive as they are if they hadn’t had support from someone who deeply gets it? And what about all the birds and squirrels I feed and water — the bugs I scoop from drowning in the water bowl? Those guys do depend on me for survival.

These kinds of questions give me perspective today; they give me fuel to make life feel safer for struggling teens. But as an adolescent, I wasn’t primarily motivated by helping other people. I was motivated by having my own needs met. So the questions that changed my mind tapped into the buried bright spots within me. Here’s how I would phrase them today:

  1. If you had a magical power, something you were put on this Earth to do, what would it be?
  2. Who or what are you helping just by being yourself and doing what you do?
  3. How would you finish this sentence? "I will not die until I have ______________________."
  4. How about this one? "I refuse to miss out on _________________." (Which essentially translates to: "I will stick around and deal with pain or struggle because I will not give up the experience of this thing.")

These questions tap into a person’s joy, purpose and hope — a powerful elixir. If desperation is at the root of suicidal feelings, these three feelings are the weed killer. So go ahead. Hit your teen, your partner, your friends with these questions. Because wherever we are on the happiness spectrum, a shot of joy can’t hurt… and you never know when your caring words are saving a life.

Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgwick Celebrated 30 Years of Marriage in the Cutest Way

After three decades of marriage, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are still totally in love. How do we know that? Because the couple chose to celebrate their wedding anniversary on Tuesday by hanging out and singing a special duet that Bacon later shared on social media.

As reported by Fox News, Bacon shared posts on both Twitter and Instagram to mark the special occasion — and folks, we can't stop swooning. Sitting side by side, they both play guitar and sing "To Love Somebody" by the Bee Gees. At the end, they share a sweet kiss, and Bacon says, "Well done. I love you."

Bacon captioned the video, "30 years! I can't believe it. @kyrasedgwick is the woman of my dreams and the music in my life." He included hashtags for the song and the band, who recorded it in 1967, 21 years before Bacon and Sedgwick tied the knot.

Sedgwick retweeted the video, writing, "30yrs. wow. Love you so."

Bacon couldn't keep the lovefest exclusive to Twitter, though. He also shared a sweet photo of Sedgwick on Instagram, writing, "#30years. I Love this person."

Not to be left out or shown up by her hubby, Sedgwick shared a photo with both of them on Wednesday, the day after their actual anniversary. In it, Bacon and Sedgwick sit together, arms around each other, smiling for the camera in a way that radiates happiness.

Sedgwick captioned the photo, "30 years (yesterday) Lucky Lady." We can't argue with that!

She told Good Housekeeping in 2012, "I don't know how he does it, but he always makes me feel like I'm the most beautiful woman in the room – the only girl in the room. He says 'Honey, you look beautiful. You are sexy!' Always, always, always!"

"He is so honorable. He is so ethically true. He has high moral standards, and he doesn't lie and he doesn't cheat – and I find that sexy!" Sedgwick added. "I am constantly in awe of Kevin's level-headedness and his lack of 'crazy.'"

According to a 2014 HuffPost article, Bacon revealed on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson that he first met Sedgwick when he was 19 and she was 12; she saw him in a stage production and, after urging from her brother, told him that she liked his performance. The two met again on the set of Lemon Sky when they were both in their 20s, which was when their romance began.

Rob Lowe Really Wants to Make a West Wing Reboot Happen

Rob Lowe may be experiencing some FOMO with all the television reboots that keep getting announced. In July, he hinted at a desire to reboot The West Wing on Twitter, but he didn't bring it up again until an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday.

More: Rob Lowe Has a New Job & We're Here for It

Entertainment Tonight reports that Lowe was noncommittal (but hopeful!) when speaking to Colbert about the possibility of bringing back the beloved political drama. Lowe told Colbert, "I was watching all the reboots come out, and look, I love Murphy Brown as much as the next person, and who doesn't? But I think it's time to get the old gang back together." He added, "I know all of the staff would love [it]... [but] it's all about Aaron Sorkin. He's the guy who wrote it. He's the guy who created it. He is The West Wing, and we've got to have him figure it out."

Is that likely to happen? "[Sorkin] says he'd like to do it as soon as he figures out a way to do it," Lowe said, though he also said Sorkin has been "very close-lipped" about the possibility of an all-new West Wing.

In July, Lowe broached the subject of wanting a West Wing reboot on Twitter, prompting over 25,000 people to like the tweet and nearly 3,000 people to retweet the sentiment. He wrote, "New 'Will And Grace'! New 'Sopranos'! New 'The Office'! I wish I had been in something that would make a good re-boot. Maybe something timely, that would have relevance in this divided political climate? #OhWell."

Apparently, much of the cast — who had a mini-reunion at star Martin Sheen's 78th birthday party in August — is on board. ET chatted with Lowe's costars in April, including Sheen, Elisabeth Moss and Joshua Malina about their thoughts on the idea of a West Wing reboot.

"I do co-host a podcast called The West Wing Weekly," Malina said. "And so in my small way, I am certainly trying to make it happen. My gut tells me [it's] not going to happen. Then again, my gut isn't Olivia Pope's gut. Her gut is always right. Mine is often wrong."

"Well, it's still running on Netflix, so I think it's holding up quite well," Sheen added. "It has a lot to teach us in today's situation, that we could not have anticipated before, so I think it's still very powerful."

"Are you kidding? I'd be in! That's where I got my start. They just gotta call me," said Moss.

More: 12 Things to Know About Rob Lowe's Sons

During his appearance on The Late Show, Lowe also revealed an exclusive detail of his long relationship with Sheen and his son, Charlie. He showed Colbert's audience a home video that he, his brother Chad and Charlie Sheen made in Martin Sheen's backyard when they were teenagers. Lowe is clearly deep in his nostalgia, and we support him. We'd all love to see the cast of The West Wing on our screens again — and honestly, we wouldn't object to another home movie either.

Geena Davis Makes a Bold Claim in Her Divorce Proceedings

When Geena Davis' husband of 17 years, Reza Jarrahy, filed for divorce in May, it felt like the end of an era. Celebrity divorces, along with divorces in general, can be somber affairs. But now, Davis is claiming that she and Jarrahy weren't actually married in a statement made by Davis. The claim is not only a bold one but also makes the divorce proceedings a little tricky.

More: 25 Years After A League of Their Own, Geena Davis Is Still Fighting for Gender Equality

People reports that Jarrahy filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, in May after a six-month separation. Us Weekly additionally reports that Davis filed a motion in court on Tuesday to dismiss her estranged partner's earlier divorce filing. She alleges that when they held a private marriage ceremony in the Hamptons in 2001, they purposely didn't get an actual marriage license — which means they had a commitment ceremony but didn't actually legalize that commitment. In her filing on Tuesday, Davis said divorce would be impossible because she and Jarrahy “knowingly and voluntarily chose to have a marriage-like ceremony, fully aware that it was not legally binding.”

To back up her claim, Davis said that she and Jarrahy filed "single" on their taxes, didn't own property together and “never had a joint checking or savings account, never had a joint retirement account,” per People. Additionally, Davis said that Jarrahy did not receive health insurance through her SAG-AFTRA membership because he didn't qualify as a family member. According to SAG-AFTRA benefits descriptions, domestic partners — which Jarrahy would have been at the very least — do not qualify as dependents. Only legal spouses and children.

People and Us both report that Davis also included a letter written by Jarrahy in 2012 for a homeownership application. It reads, “I filed my tax returns in 2009 as a single individual because I am not currently married. Ms. Davis and I cohabitate and co-parent our three children but are not officially wed.” This letter was written 11 years after the couple's commitment ceremony; unless Jarrahy and Davis acquired, signed and filed a marriage license between 2012 and November 2017 when they separated, then Davis is correct. They are not legally married. So what pushed Jarrahy to file for divorce?

More: All the Hollywood Couples Who've Called It Quits in 2018

We don't know the answer to that question, but we do know, per People, that Jarrahy filed for spousal support and full custody of the duo's three children in May. He also requested that Davis be denied if she filed for spousal support. The situation seems like a complex legal hornet's nest, so we hope it gets cleared up soon.

Jennifer Garner's Kayaking Disaster Is Straight Out of a Romcom

Imagine taking a loved one on a trip to Sweden, deciding to go kayaking because it looks like fun, then having to be rescued by a handsome stranger when you're nearly swept out to sea. Jennifer Garner doesn't have to imagine it; she actually lived it on a trip with her 12 year-old daughter in August, and we're so glad she lived to tell the tale.

More: Tearful Jennifer Garner Receives Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, Credits Her Kids

According to Entertainment Tonight, when Garner appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on September 5, he asked her about an Instagram post she made on August 6 and prompted quite the tale from the Peppermint star.

The Instagram post, which ostensibly shows Garner and her daughter watching the Swedish sunset from their kayak, is captioned, "On a pre-middle-school sneak away with my eldest... Did I get us lost in a kayak? Yes. Did we paddle as hard as we could for 100 hours and end up in a shipping lane? I’m afraid so. Did we have to be rescued? Yup. #thesunsetwasabigupside #shenevercomplained #thankyoumattias #welovedyousweden"

Luckily, Garner went into way more detail when speaking to Fallon. Per ET, Garner said that the whole event started when her eldest daughter, Violet, had to do a school report on a foreign country. She chose Sweden, and Garner said she "got so into it and loved it so much" that she thought it would be nice to take Violet to see the country itself for a few days, just the two of them.

While they were there, they saw folks kayaking in Stockholm and decided to give it a go. Garner said that things were fine at first, but then they entered a loop that should have taken 10 minutes to complete. "An hour later, we were not back," she told Fallon. "And not only that, all of the sudden, there were huge bridges going over us, there were like big boats, and [the river] went from very small to quite wide. And then Violet said, 'Mom, there's a stop light in the water.' And through that stop light, it's a loch to the ocean."

Yikes! Garner said she and Violet paddled like mad to escape the current that started to pull them toward the ocean; she called the kayak rental company for advice, who told her to just turn around—which is easier said than done.

"Suddenly, we saw this blond human, with the sun behind him like a halo, and he was coming to our rescue," Garner said, revealing the happy ending to her potentially tragic story. "He showed up and he led us back. And his name was Mattias! I'll never forget Mattias. He saved us. He did."

More: Jennifer Garner & Daughter Get Lost on Kayaking Trip in Sweden

We're really glad this kayaking trip turned into a fun story with a happy ending for Garner and Violet, given how rapidly things could have gone downhill. That rescue definitely sounds like the perfect premise for a romantic comedy. We'd pay to see that glowing, blonde human coming to the rescue, for sure. Perhaps Chris Hemsworth can play Mattias? Just a thought.

Whenever I'm munching on a humble pile of McNuggets or scarfing down plain-old french fries, I think wistfully about the international items I've seen on social media that are served up in McDonald's restaurants all around the world. Well, McDonald's must have been reading my mind, because to keep us from getting bored with their current offerings, they're bringing four items from other countries to their restaurants in South Florida.

Forget a trip to Disney World. I want to get down there so I can try a Spanish hamburger, Hong Kong chicken sandwich, Malaysian seasoned fries and a McFlurry from the Netherlands.

Here's the rundown on the items.

Grand McExtreme bacon burger

The Grand McExtreme bacon burger from Spain consists of a burger patty topped with Gouda, applewood-smoked bacon, onions and McBacon sauce.

BBQ McShaker fries

BBQ McShaker fries are from Malaysia, and as the name implies, they're basically barbecue-flavored french fries. You mix the fries and seasoning together yourself to bring an added level of fun to your meal.

McSpicy chicken sandwich

Hailing from Hong Kong, there's the McSpicy chicken sandwich. Um, can this one stay? It's a crispy chicken sandwich that's, well, spicy, and let's be real — this should be a McDonald's staple stateside already.

Stroopwafel McFlurry

Last but certainly not least, there's the Stroopwafel McFlurry. If you're not familiar, stroopwafels are thin waffle cookies filled with a lightly spiced caramel. Usually, you set them over your cup of coffee so the steam warms the caramel and makes everything all gooey, but here, they're blended with vanilla ice cream instead. Sounds pretty tasty!

If you want to try the new menu items, you'll have to travel to Miami-Dade or Broward counties in Florida, where 50 restaurants will be testing the items. They'll be available for a limited time only, so you'd better hit up the drive-thru soon.

John Krasinski's Fave Episode of The Office Is Probably Your Fave Too

John Krasinski may be making massive strides in his post-The Office career, but that doesn't mean he isn't willing to talk about the series. In conversation with Stephen Colbert for 92Y Talks on Wednesday, Krasinski talked about his new Amazon series, Jack Ryan, as well as his hit feature film, A Quiet Place. He also revealed that his favorite episode of The Office came exceptionally early in the series' nine-year run.

More: Why John Krasinski Flew Home Every Weekend While Filming Jack Ryan

Vulture reports that during his chat with Colbert, Krasinski opened up about what it was like in the early days on the Office set. “If I’m honest, I remember the pilot of The Office was word-for-word the British show at the time,” he said. “It made no sense to any of us because I think there are actually British jokes in there that don’t even apply [to Americans].”

Krasinski wasn't disparaging the show or its starting point, however. He said that just being there “was amazing as a family and as a group and as a circus, and I’ll never forget it." Neither will we — The Office saw several cast changes and viewership rises and falls during its tenure, but the fake documentary definitely took on a life of its own after the pilot episode and became part of the American TV lexicon.

According to Vulture, Krasinski recognized the show's potential when they filmed the second-ever episode, "Diversity Day." For those who can't quite recall, "Diversity Day" features a diversity sensitivity counselor coming into the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch, then later, the staff plays a game Michael created in which they put various identities, written on note cards, on their foreheads and have to guess which group their card says they represent based on the stereotype clues their coworkers are giving them.

“B.J. Novak wrote ‘Diversity Day,’” Krasinski told Colbert and their live audience on Wednesday. “I remember that day when [the diversity sensitivity counselor played by Larry Wilmore] comes in and says, ‘My name is Mr. Brown,’ and Michael says, ‘I’m not gonna call you that.’ It was that moment combo’d with Kelly slapping him [for his impression of a bodega owner] where I said, ‘Oh, my God, we’re a part of something totally unique — and I don’t think anyone will watch this. But I knew it was really good and I [remember thinking] we were a part of something special.”

Among all the recent TV reboot news, there have been plenty of rumors that NBC might do a revival of The Office. If they do, we hope the show continues to push boundaries and maintain that special spark that Krasinski noticed in his first days on set.

This Is Why Your Gums Are Bleeding

Blood coming from any part of our body is usually a signal something isn't right, and our gums are no different. Many people notice that their gums bleed when they brush or floss, even if they do both as often as recommended. While it could be a simple as brushing too hard, it could also be the sign of something more serious. But what is causing our gums to bleed and is there anything we can do to stop it from happening?

To find out, we spoke with dentists, who shared the reasons we may have sore, tender, bleeding gums as well as how to solve the problem before it gets worse.

Why do gums bleed?

According to Dr. Jon Marashi, a Los Angeles-based dentist to celebrities such as Pink, Tom Hanks and Ryan Seacrest, the leading cause of bleeding gums is simply a result of "poor oral hygiene." Unfortunately, this can quickly lead to gingivitis caused by "plaque and tartar accumulation on the teeth and around the gums" as well as other problems, like bad breath, gum recession and even bone loss and loose teeth, he tells SheKnows,

But beyond hygiene, you can also have bleeding gums from poor-fitting dental restorations, such as crowns or fillings, smoking and tobacco products or some medications for treating seizures, Marashi adds.

Along the same lines, dentist Dr. Jennifer Silver of Macleod Trail Dental tells SheKnows that our gums can bleed because they are irritated by something — often "bacteria-filled plaque." She also explains that the reason the gums bleed when we brush or floss is because gums, like the rest of our body, will bleed if they become inflamed or irritated.

How can we stop our gums from bleeding?

First and foremost, Marashi says that in order to help our gums stop bleeding, we must improve our oral hygiene — and that includes more than just brushing and flossing twice a day. In order for the brushing and flossing to be effective, he stresses that we need to use the correct technique to ensure the plaque and tartar buildup is getting removed properly from the teeth as well as keeping your diet healthy, with limited sugar and lots of vegetables.

Dr. Samuel Low, a dentist and chief dental officer of Biolase, says the proper way to brush is to not only brush the tooth, but also brush “at and below the gum line” so the bacteria can be “disrupted and removed." He adds that we should take at least two minutes each time we brush our teeth, but the average person only brushes for 32 seconds.

Many people also may see a change in their gums during menstruation or while they are pregnant. If you notice your gums bleeding more during this time, you are not alone, as the extra bleeding may be caused by hormonal changes according to Marashi. Similarly, Low says some people may get “pregnancy gingivitis,” which usually happens in the first trimester as increased hormones create more blood flow to the gums.

However, while Silver agrees hormonal changes can make your gums a bit more sensitive, she says that you really shouldn't notice a huge difference just because you are menstruating or pregnant.

The good news is that if you do suffer from bleeding gums, Silver says that it doesn't mean it's too late to improve your oral hygiene by flossing and brushing once in the morning and once at night. Silver also adds that our regular dental cleanings are able to get rid of plaque in a way brushing and flossing won't take care of, so it's important to go in for a dental cleaning once every six months.

We Are Dying to Eat at the New Mamma Mia! Restaurant — but There's a Catch

If you're like us, you've seen Mamma Mia! (the stage show and both movies) at least a handful of times each now; the soundtrack is on near-constant rotation in your car, home and, of course, shower (the acoustics in there are too good to pass up); and you could easily substitute for any member of ABBA if they had to miss a show for some reason.

Well, now you can actually plan your meals around Mamma Mia! and we're dying to get a taste of the disco dining adventure. Mamma Mia! The Party is a restaurant experience opening up at the O2 in London this spring, and it sounds like a real hoot.

You might need some "Money, Money, Money" to fly out to London, but when you arrive, here's what you'll get.

First, dinner starts out in a bougainvillea-bedecked Greek-style taverna, where owner Nikos and his family (a team of actors and musicians) serve dinner while acting out a show and performing your favorite ABBA hits. The food is Mediterranean, so you'll feel like you're vacationing on the island of Kalokairi.

After dinner, the real fun begins. The tables are cleared away, and the dining room is turned into a disco. Dance your heart out to ABBA songs (it's good for digestion!), and pretend that you're a member of the Dynamos surrounded by adoring fans.

The show has been running in Sweden for three years to sold-out crowds. The London show can seat up to 500 people a night... and "I Have a Dream" that I'll get to be one of them!

Mamma Mia! The Party opens in spring 2019, but tickets are going on sale this fall. Reserve your spot now, because we have a feeling these tickets are going to disappear faster than Napoleon's army at Waterloo.

How to Keep Your Kids Safe on the Playground

Let's get the scary stats out of the way first. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 200,000 children ages 14 and younger are treated in U.S. emergency departments every year for playground-related injuries. Hazards include falls; entanglement in ropes, leashes or clothing; and impact from equipment tip-over or structural failure.

Before you wrap your little ones up in cotton wool – or worse, ban them from the playground altogether – remember: Accidents do happen. But there's a lot you can do to prevent them.

According to Dr. S. Daniel Ganjian, a pediatrician at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California, educating yourself about playground safety is vital. And it's equally important to pass the information on to your kids — using age-appropriate language — before you get to the park. "It's better to teach proactively rather than reactively," Ganjian tells SheKnows. "That way, your children will know what to look out for so you don't have to constantly yell at them when they are doing the wrong thing."

Follow these expert guidelines on playground safety to ensure your kids leave the playground with fun memories and not broken bones.

Wear the right clothes

Playground safety begins with your child wearing the right clothing. Go for closed-toe shoes and avoid laces that could loosen and get trapped in equipment. Loose clothing can also catch on equipment and cause falls or strangulation risks. Remove your kids' bicycle helmets before they play, as helmets can lead to head entrapment in tight spaces.

Set some ground rules

"Before you let your kids step foot on the playground, be sure to lay out some ground rules," Dr. Gina Posner, a pediatrician at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California, tells SheKnows. "Your rules might include taking turns, using equipment properly and keeping their hands to themselves."

Keep it age-appropriate

The safest playground for your child is one that's geared toward their age group. "Always check out the age recommendations for the play equipment you let your little one explore," advises Posner. For smaller kids, choose playgrounds that have a separate play area for younger children, and remember that playgrounds with soft floors are better at absorbing the shock of a fall.

More: Babyproofing 101: All the Home Hacks You Need

However much you want to join in the fun, don't be tempted to take young kids down a slide on your lap. According to Posner, kids frequently catch a leg or other body part underneath the parent, leading to injury.

Do a quick recon

As soon as you arrive at the playground, give it a quick once over. Check that the path to and from the play equipment is clear of hazards. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, elevated surfaces like platforms and ramps should have guardrails to prevent falls, play structures more than 30 inches high should be spaced at least 9 feet apart, and surfaces around playground equipment should have at least 12 inches of wood chips, mulch, sand or pea gravel or be mats made of rubber or rubberlike materials.

On the playground itself, check for broken equipment and chipping or peeling paint, and advise your kiddos to steer clear of anything potentially harmful. The CPSC's finding on lead poisoning hazard for young children on public playground equipment encouraged cities to replace lead-based paint, but you should still keep an eye on kids under 6 years old to avoid ingestion of poisonous chips and dust.

Keep your eyes open

Your kids might be happy to be left to their own devices on the playground, but that doesn't mean you don't need to supervise them. "The single most important tip I can give is to always watch your child," says Posner. "You don’t have to hover, but you should not be looking at your phone or distracted. Kids can get hurt anywhere, but if you see your child doing something that might be risky, you need to be able to stop it immediately."

Watch the weather

A warm day may seem to present the perfect opportunity to visit the playground, but the combination of heat and metal equipment can end in tears. "Touch the equipment before allowing your child to go on," suggests Ganjian. "Sometimes, the sun can increase the temperature so much it causes children's skin to burn." To be safe, avoid bare metal slides and steps completely and go for playgrounds with plenty of shaded or covered areas. If you're heading to the playground after rain, watch out for puddles and stagnant water — according to KidsHealth from Nemours, it takes less than 1 inch of water for a small child to drown.

Know your child's limits

You can encourage your child to be adventurous without putting them at risk. The key is to know their limits, says Posner. Make sure they're using the equipment how it was intended to be used, and consider it a good general rule that if they're jumping off a high play structure, you should probably stop them.

Remember these tips, and you and your kids can enjoy your time on the playground — and keep out of the emergency room.

6 Shows to Binge-Watch While Waiting for Black Mirror to Return

We may have a while before the next season of Black Mirror (unconfirmed release date as of yet, but likely slotted for late 2018), but we’ve rounded up six decidedly unsettling shows to binge-watch in the meantime.

1. Electric Dreams

electric dreams

The anthology series Electric Dreams features 10 episodes so far, each one a self-contained narrative based on a Philip K. Dick story. The series takes its name from the story that inspired Blade Runner, but the episodes are as diverse as the author’s dazzlingly far-reaching work. An all-star cast includes Steve Buscemi, Bryan Cranston and Anna Paquin.

2. Humans

Humans

AMC’s Humans, now in its second season, takes us into a chillingly plausible near future where almost human robotic assistants called “synths” are as common as today’s iPhones. Fittingly, what makes this show so gripping is the way it uses the backdrop of a meditation on artificial intelligence to stage a drama revolving around all-too-common jealousies and conflicts.

3. Mr. Robot

mr robot

Rami Malek stars as an intensely charismatic hacker (when have you heard that phrase before?) in this highly acclaimed sci-fi show. Mr. Robot, like many of the best Black Mirror episodes, gives us an eerie near-future dystopia that’s just a little too realistic for comfort.

Mr. Robot, available at Amazon

4. The Twilight Zone

The Twilight Zone

The Twilight Zone, one of TV’s most iconic sci-fi programs, needs no introduction, of course, other than the famous words which opened the show: “There is a fifth dimension…” While it’s become a cliché to compare Black Mirror to The Twilight Zone, the truth is that when talking about any eerie sci-fi anthology show, the specter of The Twilight Zone is bound to come up.

5. Inside No. 9

inside no 9

If Black Mirror has left you only wanting to watch anthology shows that are creepy and uncanny, Inside No. 9 is for you. Based on the concept that each episode takes place inside a different “No. 9,” the show skillfully combines horror with humor.

Inside No. 9, available at Amazon

6. Westworld

westworld

Westworld may draw distantly on a Michael Crichton novel, but the HBO show contains the kind of tensely wound dramas and power struggles mixed with big questions about artificiality and free will that distinctly recall the themes explored in Black Mirror.

Can Kate Hudson do no wrong? The actor — first known for her roles in Almost Famous and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days — is not only a Golden Globe winner; she's also a best-selling author, certified scuba diver, winemaker and mom. And boy, is she beautiful. A recent pic of Hudson proves just how gorgeous pregnancy can be.

Hudson took to Instagram to share an unfiltered and seemingly makeup-free selfie in which she's wearing a bikini, pregnant belly front and center.

In the image, which Hudson captioned with one word — #Outie — Hudson is sporting a bright orange two-piece and matching orange robe. Her hair is pulled back, her belly is out, and she is glowing.

This isn't the first time Hudson has shown off her growing belly in a bikini; just a month after announcing her pregnancy, Hudson posted a pic of herself sunbathing and "brewing" what she called "a different kind of beach bod."

In June, Hudson snapped another sunbathing selfie — this time from Greece.

And in July, Hudson shared a shot of herself celebrating her "bump buddy's" 30th birthday: "What a blast celebrating the big Dirty Thirty to my bump buddy last night! Hang on to your hat, it's going to be a crazy year!!!"

Chrissy Teigen Says Having Kids Changed Her Sex Life

Chrissy Teigen is busy. When she's not cooking up new ideas (literally) for her cookbooks, holding the Trump administration accountable at public rallies, hosting a hit reality TV series or making her millions of fans laugh on Twitter, you can find her parenting her two adorable children, Miles and Luna. Something you won't hear about her doing as often? Having sex with her husband, John Legend.

More: 5 Times Chrissy Teigen Totally Nailed the Working Mom Experience

Teigen, ever the candid celebrity, recently opened up to Women's Health for its October 2018 issue. In it, she talks about how having kids took a toll on her sex life.

"It doesn't matter who you are — even if you're a sexy R&B crooner or an ex-swimsuit model, you're just tired," she told the magazine. "We still have that passion for each other, but are we doing it randomly in a dressing room? No! We'll get back into it again. But it is funny: If he performs somewhere and I go, I'm like, 'Oh, he's sexy.' We'll probably have sex that night."

Intimacy isn't the only thing that's changed in her life since having children (well, that and having to hear Elmo's voice nearly nonstop throughout the day — Luna loves him, apparently); Teigen said she's also had to switch up her diet a bit. While she still occasionally loves eating her signature fried chicken wings, she now gravitates toward quicker, simpler recipes throughout the week.

"Two kids in, you can't eat the way you used to. I changed, so the book had to change," she told Women's Health about her upcoming cookbook, Cravings: Hungry for More. "With the first book, I wanted to get people out of the headspace of a 15-minute meal with less than five ingredients. Now, I identify with the people who don't have time for that shit."

But perhaps the most important thing that's changed for Teigen now that she's a mom? She's more focused on her mental health than ever before.

"After Luna, I was drinking too much," she said. "I wasn't eating as much because I was full from drinking. I wasn't being good to my body. I remember being so bruised from nothing."

More: Chrissy Teigen Feels "Super Insecure" About Her Post-Baby Body

Teigen, who's been honest in the past about having had postpartum depression, said her outlook changed after some much-needed self-care, which for her, came in the form of an antidepressant and a wellness retreat.

"It's like, what could be more important than mental health?" she asked. "What's more important than being proud of yourself and doing the best you can for your body?"

Her questions, as well as her honesty regarding her personal lived experiences, are so helpful for parents everywhere who are struggling to adjust to their new normals — whether they're changing their diets and meal prep or modifying their intimacy schedules. Oh, Chrissy, what would we do without you?

What You Need to Know About the New Guidelines for Treating Concussions in Kids

$

Concussions are relatively common, especially in children and young adults. In fact, The Washington Post reports that children under 17 years of age collectively endure as many as 2 million concussions every year — and that is in the United States alone. Since concussions are mild traumatic brain injuries, and ones that can result in more severe TBIs, it is important to do what we can to properly treat and prevent them from happening. As such, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released new guidelines for treating concussions in children.

More: Signs Your Child May Have a Concussion

In fact, these are the first to specifically address youth TBIs.

The guidelines, published in JAMA Pediatrics, include 19 sets of recommendations and "five key practice-changing" recommendations:

  • Children should not be routinely imaged to diagnose a mild TBI.
  • The age-appropriate symptoms scale should be used to diagnose a concussion.
  • Risk factors for prolonged recovery should be assessed, including family history and/or history of concussions or other brain injury.
  • Patients and their parents/caregivers should be given a customized recovery plan.
  • Patients should gradually return to non-sports activities after two to three days of rest.

The issue of TBIs has become one of particular importance in recent years thanks to ongoing research that shows that repeated blows to the head can lead to long-term memory loss, dementia and other serious health issues. In fact, the CDC said its guidelines were based on the "most comprehensive review of the science" over the past 25 years related to concussions.

Dr. Debra Houry, director of the CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, said in a press release, "[U]ntil today, there was no evidence-based guideline in the United States on pediatric [mild] TBI — inclusive of all causes. [However,] healthcare providers will now be equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to ensure the best outcomes for their young patients who sustain a [mild] TBI."
