Christina El Moussa Is Doing Something Major For Her Community

Christina El Moussa is People's July 16 cover star and her interview with the outlet is incredibly revealing. Not only does she open up about what life has been like since she and her husband Tarek split after seven years of marriage — after building an empire together with HGTV's Flip Or Flop — she also shares her plans for the future and her "true calling," which is honestly really admirable.

More: Christina El Moussa Has a New Solo HGTV Gig

In an interview clip posted on PeopleTV, El Moussa shares that since she and Tarek split in 2016, she has been spending a lot of time in the church of Pastor Tim Storey. People reports that starting next year, El Moussa and Storey will partner with her longtime friend, Cassie Zebisch, to open drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers focused on "mind, body, [and] spirit."

"I feel like my calling has always been to help people," El Moussa said. "I love a fixer, like I love to fix up a house, but I also really love to help people. Tim's been involved in the recovery world and right when we started talking, I just felt like that was my calling."

She added that they will "incorporate people that I've met during the past two years that have really helped me and just try to change people's lives. It's a great partnership and I'm excited for the future."

El Moussa told People that after her divorce, she felt like she was "drowning." Storey, as well as others, helped her get back on track, which has inspired her to want to help others. “Two years ago I was focused on trying not to sink," she said. "But after I started exercising, eating right, surrounding myself with the correct people, I felt this switch.”

More: Christina El Moussa Says Divorce From Tarek Felt Like 'Drowning'

This new venture is just one of many that El Moussa is taking on next. Her HGTV solo series, Christina On the Coast, premieres early next year, and she is also adjusting to life as a single mom with a new boyfriend. As of right now, she and Tarek are co-parenting their two kids and still, for the time being, working on Flip Or Flop. The future looks bright for El Moussa, and we think it's great that she's taking her experiences and using their inspiration to give back to her community.

TSA Is After Our Snacks, Because Air Travel Wasn't Already Annoying Enough

In an attempt to make air travel a less horrifying prospect, we've started bringing an array of tasty snacks with us on all flights so we aren't forced to buy a slimy turkey sandwich for $12 when we start to feel hunger set in. Rumbling tummies and airplane bathrooms do not a good match make.

But the TSA is here to rain on our parade of delicious snacks. Apparently, a lot of foods look like bombs. That block of cheese you brought to gnaw on looks like C-4 explosives, and God only knows how an X-ray would interpret the packs of Pop Rocks you stashed in your bag to make the flight pass in tingly taste bud delight. Now, many agents are requesting that all food items be removed from your carry-on luggage and sent through the X-ray machine on their own so they can be closely examined.

More: 15 Places to Take an Island Vacation — Without Leaving the U.S.

While still not a mandatory policy, it's becoming increasingly common. Some airports request that you remove food items from your bag every time you go through security, while others request that you do it only after the X-ray machine notices suspicious shapes.

This isn't just annoying because taking everything out of your perfectly packed carry-on and hastily repacking it once through security is basically the worst way to start a day of travel. It's also frustrating because it will surely increase wait times at security checkpoints, which are already mind-numbingly long and boring to stand in. Not to say that security isn't important, but really — has someone ever tried to disguise a bomb as a pack of organic coconut granola clusters? We kind of think not.

The next time you travel, consider packing your snacks in their own bag so you can easily put them through the X-ray conveyor without having to dig through your perfectly folded clothes.

Khloé Kardashian Calls Out Sister For Posting Post-Birth Bikini Pic

Kendall Jenner wowed fans earlier this week when she posted a video of big sis Khloé Kardashian lounging in a bikini just months after giving birth to daughter True Thompson. Though Kardashian looked gorgeous (per usual), she had a few words of her own to share with fans: Looks can be deceiving!

More: Khloé Kardashian Revealed the Sweet Reason She Named Her Daughter True

"I'm just seeing that Kendall posted a video of me in a bikini... Thank God she knows her angles LOL cuz I do not look like I did in that video LOL laying down is a game changer," the new mom tweeted. "I had an hour to hang with Kenny while True was napping."

Though the Kardashian-Jenners are famous for working their angles, Kardashian, star of Revenge Body, doesn't need to rely on lying down to look fabulous. In fact, she looks pretty damn good kneeling too. Kardashian showed off her gorgeous curves while modeling Yeezy Season 7 and basking in the Southern California sun at her massive Fourth of July celebration.

Since giving birth in April, Kardashian has been diligent about hitting the gym and sharing her progress on Instagram with her millions of fans. While it's certainly her right to work up a sweat, it's important to note that moms should never feel pressured to "bounce back" after birth.

Of course, working out could be a welcome distraction (and endorphin booster) for Kardashian, who is still repairing her relationship with basketball star Tristan Thompson, who reportedly cheated on her multiple times while she was pregnant with their daughter. Aside from firing off a quick tweet defending her decision to stay with Thompson, Kardashian has been relatively quiet about the cheating allegations. All of that is about to change, however, during the 15th season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which Us Weekly reports will address the scandal head-on.

But the show won't solely focus on the drama. Kardashian shared a teaser clip from the upcoming season on Thursday that showed some of the sweeter moments from the couple's pregnancy journey as well. Hopefully, these snapshots of her life clear up speculation and rumors so Kardashian can get back to working her angles poolside in peace.

Big Brother Sets Up New 'Consequences' for Inappropriate Behavior

If you had a camera broadcasting your every word and movement 24-7, would you put a filter on your behavior? CBS' Big Brother has seen a fair share of controversy over the years because its contestants have expressed racist, sexist or homophobic views on the online livestream — and now, according to Us Weekly, the network is doling out consequences to houseguests who display inappropriate behavior.

More: 10 Big Brother 19 Moments You Didn't See on TV (but Should Have)

CBS' statement, provided to the outlet on Tuesday, reads: “Big Brother is a reality show about watching a group of people who have no privacy 24/7 — and capturing every unfiltered moment and conversation in their lives. At times, the houseguests reveal prejudices and exhibit behavior that we do not condone. The producers have addressed two such incidents that were seen recently on the 24/7 online feed. In both cases, those involved have been warned about their inappropriate behavior and offensive comments, as well as future consequences. These events will not be part of any future Big Brother broadcast on CBS.”

The two incidents in question involved current season 20 houseguests Rachel Swindler and Angela Rummans in one incident and JC Mounduix in another.

According to Us, during the live stream on Monday, Swindler and Rummans had a conversation about their tanning habits that had racist overtones. Swindler said, “My stomach is as dark as Bay[leigh Dayton, a Black season 20 contestant]. I can’t be in the sun for two days straight. … I will change ethnicities. I already have.” Rummans replied, “I’m looking ghetto here with the skin coloration.”

During the same livestream on Monday night, Us reports that Mounduix went around the house with an ice cream scoop, asked contestant Kaycee Clark to "open up [her] vagina," touched another female houseguest between the legs while she was getting a massage from a friend and tried to put the ice cream scoop under a blanket being used by Kaitlyn Herman.

More: The Big Brother 18 Guys Actually Defend Their Disgusting, Misogynistic Behavior

Big Brother is no stranger to controversy surrounding its live streams, but these two incidences occurring so close together are definitely not a good look. CBS would have been better off implementing stronger consequences years ago. Us notes in their report that the 2013 season was particularly bad, with two contestants making racist remarks and another making homophobic and misogynistic comments. The latter, Spencer Clawson, also said during a live stream that he liked to watch child pornography. Yikes.

It's good that CBS is finally putting its foot down, but that's just the thing — fans have been complaining for years about houseguests behaving inappropriately. Plus, the consequences CBS mentioned in its statement are just nebulous enough not to have any real teeth. It seems like the network is more concerned with maintaining viewership than actually dealing with the prejudices of its contestants, and in today's climate, that could be a problem.

Stop Everything, & Listen to Meghan Markle's New British Accent

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan (née Markle), has only officially been a Brit (by marriage) for a month and a half, but she's already settling in quite nicely. She's been attending numerous public events with her husband, Prince Harry, as well as her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II. She's been picking up on the etiquette of the royal family and sprucing up her wardrobe with bold choices. But perhaps the most curious thing that's happened in this new chapter of her life involves her accent — it's changed.

More: Meghan Markle Reportedly Hasn't Spoken to Her Dad Since the Wedding

On Thursday, BuzzFeed published some interesting findings that may indicate Meghan is already using her actor's ear and is picking up some slight British affectations that are subsequently changing her accent. A video from June 14 (but which is just now getting traction across the internet) shows Meghan greeting and chatting with British citizens. The person taking the video, Aya El Zeiny, speaks directly to Meghan, and it's during their exchange you can hear Meghan's voice inflects upward, which is common with a British accent.

Compare this to another video taken all the way back in January when Meghan was still fairly new to life as a well-to-do Brit, and you can hear that she still sounds rather American.

Reactions have run the gamut from surprised to nonplussed because other Americans have done it in the past to excitedly embracing Meghan's new lilt.

Just between us, we're totally into this new accent, however slight it is. If anything, it's a sign that Meghan is settling into her new life and feels comfortable in it — all good things in our book.

Here’s What’s Happening to Anthony Bourdain’s $1.2 Million Fortune

Nearly a month after celebrity chef, author and TV host Anthony Bourdain was found dead in his hotel room in France on June 8, Page Six has acquired court documents detailing the execution of his last will and testament, written in 2016. According to the report, he leaves behind a $1.2 million estate, despite previous estimates placing his estate at $16 million.

More: Anthony Bourdain Dies in France at 61 Years Old

Bourdain's will leaves the majority of his money to his 11-year-old daughter, Ariane; because she is still a minor, the court will appoint a guardian to protect her interests in the estate. Page Six reports that had Ariane died before Bourdain, the money would have gone to her nanny, Myra Quizon.

Court papers detail Bourdain's assets to include $425,000 in “cash and savings,” $35,000 in a brokerage account, $250,000 in “personal property” and $500,000 in “intangible property including royalties and residuals.” The East 94th Street condo he purchased with his estranged wife Ottavia Busia in 2014 is not listed; however, there is a $1 million mortgage liability for an unspecified property.

In February, Bourdain told People that he regrets purchasing the property: “I own an apartment with a mortgage that my ex-wife and my daughter live in, and I’m a renter. I should always be a renter. I regret buying that apartment. The bank owns it, and then you’re stuck with it.”

Bourdain and Busia separated in 2016, but their divorce was not finalized at the time of his death, meaning she is still his legal next of kin, per Page Six. The outlet reports that control over his estate goes to Busia, as do Bourdain's “accumulated frequent flier miles." His will asks her to “dispose of [them] in accordance with what [she] believes to have been [his] wishes.” The same instructions were left for cars, furniture, books, clothing and other household items and the remainder of Bourdain's assets will go to his daughter.

When Bourdain spoke to People in February, he described himself as happy and said he felt “some responsibility” to “at least try to live” since his daughter was born. He was dating actor Asia Argento at the time of his death by suicide while he was in France filming an upcoming episode of CNN's Parts Unknown with close friend and chef Éric Ripert.

How You Can Use Rest as a Tool for Success

$

0

We hear a lot about the many things that are disrupting the American workplace: demographics, globalization, automation, the decline of manufacturing and, especially, technology. And it’s true — all of those are transforming the way we work, not just in American but worldwide.

But there’s another force transforming our lives and our work: nonwork. Or, more specifically, what we’re doing in those hours when we’re not working. Rest: Why You Get More Done When You Work Less (newly released in paperback) by Alex Soojung-Kim Pang superbly illustrates this phenomenon, and even more important, offers some solutions.

More: How to Be Happy in Uncertain Times

Rest shows how the secret behind many of history’s most creative authors, scientists, thinkers and politicians was that they were very serious and disciplines about rest. History has celebrated their achievements, but Pang shows the less-known ways they got there: They discovered a common set of strategies to practice deliberate rest, sustain their energy, boost their creativity and lengthen their careers. Many, like myself, only discover the true value of rest after burning out or a midlife scare. (So if you’re facing your own crisis, it’s not too late. In fact, you’re right on time. And if you’re not in crisis mode, Rest is a much more enjoyable wake-up call than an eventual crash.)

The lives of Nobel prize-winning scientists, famous novelists and composers described in Rest may seem very different from our own. But even if your day jobs don’t resemble Albert Einstein’s or Toni Morrison’s, we can apply lessons from their lives to our lives. After all, we can learn from elite athletes about how to train, compete and take care of our ourselves even if we don’t aspire to Usain Bolt-like swiftness.

So, what rules guided their rest? They can be distilled down to a 10 Commandments of Rest.

More: For a Brain That Helps You Thrive, Start These 10 Preventive Steps as They Work

1. Take rest seriously. Too often, we treat rest as merely the absence of work or something that gets in the way of reaching our goals. In reality, hard work and deliberate rest are partners; each sustains and supports the other.

2. Focus. One way to create space for rest is to structure our daily schedules around unbroken periods of focused work. You can be a lot more productive in a couple of focused hours than in a day full of distractions and notifications.

3. Layer work and rest. Super-creative people alternate periods of intensive work with periods of deliberate rest. Concentrating hard on a problem tempts their subconscious minds into working on it.

4. Get an early start. We’ve all had the experience of being amazingly productive in an hour when we’ve come in early and had the office to ourselves. Imagine what you could get done if you made getting in early a habit and left earlier in the day.

5. Detach from work. Psychologists find that people who keep busy during their free time, who don’t check their email at night and on weekends and who truly leave work behind when they go on vacation (put that phone down!) are happier, more productive and more resilient at work.

6. Detach from devices. In our technology-obsessed reality, we carry our entire work world with us wherever we go. Achieving the kind of detachment we need for productive rest can’t really be done without regularly disconnecting from our devices.

7. Take a week off every season. The ideal vacation schedule is to take a week off every three months. This increases the amount of vacation-based energy and resilience we can draw on at work.

8. Practice deep play. People who have long, productive lives have hobbies or enjoy sports or activities that offer some of the same psychological rewards as their jobs but in a different setting and without the frustrations of work.

9. Get plenty of exercise. The jocks-vs.-nerds stereotype is outdated. The more movement you have in your life, the better your brain can perform.

10. Get plenty of sleep. Perhaps the most destructive myth of our work-obsessed culture is that sleep deprivation is a sign of commitment to one’s job. Sleep doesn’t just provide physical rest; it’s actually a time of incredible mental activating, giving our brains time to consolidate memories and skills and clear out toxins that are associated with dementia late in life.

More: 7 Steps to Protect Yourself From Dreaded Burnout

A global economy that never rests expects us to ignore our need for rest. To accelerate the culture shift and reclaim our lives, we need tools to help us push back against the culture of burnout and overwork. Rest is one of those tools.

Any parent will tell you that time flies when you have kids. One minute, you're bringing them home from the hospital all tiny and new, and the next thing you know, they're taking their first steps. Then driving. Fortunately for Kourtney Kardashian, she doesn't have to hand over the keys to her Benz just yet — her daughter, Penelope Disick, only just turned 7.

More: 30 Days of Khloé Kardashian's Pregnancy Fashion

Although Penelope isn't part of the core cast of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, she does make the occasional cameo. And she's a recurring star on her mom's Instagram feed, which is why we feel like we know the precocious kid.

Although Kardashian will undoubtedly come to feel like she blinked and Penelope grew up overnight, right now Princess Penelope's favorite things still reflect the fact that she's a little girl. Here's what her mama's Instagram tells us about Penelope's hobbies, habits and prized possessions.

Rainbows & unicorns

Really, what sunny day wouldn't be made better by lounging on a giant rainbow float and wearing a faux unicorn horn?

Her mama's closet

While most little girls like to rummage through their mother's closets, most little girls don't have moms with closets as grand as Kardashian's to go through. Jealous!

Playing dress-up

What? It's totally normal for a bunny and an angel to chill in the backyard. Didn't you know?

Tea for 3, please

To be honest, a day spent eating scones at a fancy tea party with Kardashian and cousin North West sounds pretty sweet to us too.

Spa days

Some days, a girl just needs to slip on a terry cloth robe and get pampered, you know? Luckily for Penelope, she's got a built-in spa crew at the ready.

Amusement park shenanigans

Like pretty much everyone else on the face of the planet, Penelope is powerless to resist playing amusement park games — even if they are nearly impossible to win.

Watching sunsets with her little bro

Sunsets are beautiful when you're older. But when you're little? They're pure magic, especially when shared with people you love.

Being on the water

Not only does Penelope seem like a natural on a boat, but she also rocks what is quite possibly the cutest little boating outfit ever.

Daisies

Few flowers are more innocent than daisies, and they seem particularly angelic being held by Penelope (dressed all in white, no less!).

Really big balloons

If you're going to have a party, you need to have balloons, and Penelope knows the way to do it right — the bigger the balloons, the better.

Lounging in the pool

Oh, to be young and spend your summer days lounging on a giant pink flamingo pool float! Penelope has it all figured out already.

A classic denim jacket

Is it really any surprise that Penelope would already have impeccable taste, as evidenced by this monogrammed jean jacket? Her mom is a self-proclaimed fashion junkie.

Her cousin-slash-BFF

When your mom and aunt have kids close together, you get to enjoy a fringe benefit: having a built-in BFF! Penelope and cousin North are thick as thieves.

The Pink Power Ranger

We applaud your choice, young Kardashian. The Pink Power Ranger never goes out of style.

Living la vida Italia

Bellísima! Penelope looks like she fit in with the locals seamlessly during a vacation to Italy with her fam.

Middle child Penelope doesn't appear to be jealous of baby brother Reign at all. In this throwback picture, it's clear she adores her new bro.

Jennifer Lopez has gone on the record to say that she has considered marrying current beau Alex Rodriguez and the longer they're together, we certainly think it's a possibility. But now, Jennifer Lopez has left fans really wondering if she's actually engaged thanks to the recent appearance of a ring on a very important finger in one of her July 4 Instagram posts. Are we missing something? Did J.Lo get lowkey engaged during the holiday break and forget to tell us?

More: The Real Reason Jennifer Lopez & Alex Rodriguez Aren’t Talking About Marriage

Blame it on an adorable Instagram post that Lopez put up during the July 4 holiday. In the photo, she's seen leaning on Rodriguez's stomach, the couple looking relaxed and happy. While we're happy to see this celeb couple so happy, we can't help but notice that Lopez's left hand is in plain sight and she's sporting a ring on the ring finger. Y'know, the finger that is traditionally reserved for engagement rings.

Immediately, fans started leaving comments the photo when Lopez's posted it on Twitter. Some asked if she had quietly gotten engaged, while others simply quoted the lyrics from her song "El Anillo" (Spanish for "The Ring"), "El anillo pa' cuando?" meaning, "Where's the ring?" And others just couldn't help but fawn over the pure love and joy that seemed to radiate from J.Lo and A-Rod in the beachy pic.

Neither Lopez nor Rodriguez have commented on whether or not they've actually taken a huge, next step in their relationship (e.g. getting engaged), but their commitment to one another is unquestionable. Whether it's their chemistry with one another or the efforts they've made to make a home together and blend their families, it's clear that these two are dedicated to making it work.

How to Get the Most Money for Your Used Furniture

$
0
0

When it comes to buying furniture, sometimes newer isn’t always better. Besides the more budget-friendly aspect of most secondhand furniture, shopping for used or vintage pieces is a great way to find one-of-a-kind items not necessarily available at big-box retailers.

That said, there’s a difference between old-school charm and plain old junk. Both when selling and buying, there are certain things to keep in mind to ensure you get the most for your money — which is why we asked an expert to share her top tips. Anna Brockway is one of the cofounders of Chairish, an online marketplace for vintage furniture and decor specializing in highly curated finds. And she practices what she preaches too: “I always think it’s better to shop vintage because it usually costs 70 to 80 percent less, is better made and [is] just generally cooler than something new,” says Brockway.

Given that she’s been working with reclaimed home goods since the company’s founding in 2013, we figured there’s no one better to shed a little light on what to look for — and what to avoid — when buying and selling used furniture.

On determining the value of an item before selling: "Several factors contribute to the value of a piece: brand, age, style, rarity and condition. I suggest doing your homework with a quick online search to get a sense of the range — also, consider your desired timeline and establish deadlines for price reductions. If you’re not getting any interest after a week or so, reduce the price, or if you want to see it gone swiftly, price it to move from the get-go."

On the furniture that should be tossed instead of resold: "Obviously, I’m a big proponent of buying vintage, but there are some 'cheap and cheerful' furniture brands whose items are not built for the long haul. Also, mattresses are a no-go."

On the red flags for buying used furniture: "I recommend that you check the item’s condition carefully. Some patina brings character to a piece, but big gouges, broken frames, poor joinery and missing parts are mostly not repairable. Also, do make sure there is a return policy in place if you are buying online."

On the importance of photography in selling your used furniture: "We always tell our sellers to take high-quality photos with good lighting and write a thorough description. The more information you can give the prospective buyers, the more comfortable and confident they’ll feel purchasing your piece. Transparency is everything!"

On the one thing you should never forget to do before shopping: "For buying, especially online, make sure you’ve got the right measurements. There’s nothing worse than falling in love with a piece and being disappointed that something is too big or too small for your space."

On finding the best deal and when to negotiate: "If you shop vintage (or as they say, 'pre-loved') and you’re looking to score a great deal, I always recommend making an offer. You can always go back and buy an item at the listed price, but I find most sellers are willing to negotiate, typically between 10 to 20 percent off their stated price. In the vintage world, it is perfectly polite to ask a seller, 'What’s your best price?' — just be prepared for an honest answer."

living room featuring vintage furniture

Now that you’re armed with the information you need, here are some of our favorite marketplaces to check out for buying and selling used furniture.

Chairish

We mentioned the highly curated finds available via Chairish earlier, and that’s truly what distinguishes this company from others. Literally everything on the site is preapproved by the team, so there’s a certain threshold of quality that’s expected from every seller that buyers — particularly skeptical ones — are sure to appreciate. Chairish continues to be involved in the entire process, organizing the shipping and staying in touch with the buyer post-purchase to see if they want to return it (if they do, they have two days before the seller is actually paid). There’s even an augmented reality app customers can use to test out the product in real life —  or as close to real life as you can get — and a value-determining feature known as the Chairish Pink Book.

The fine print: All items must have a minimum listing price of $25.

AptDeco

This service will take care of everything from start to finish, meaning you don’t have to worry about trekking to an unknown sketchy location and handing over cash to a stranger. Like Chairish, AptDeco prearranges pickup and delivery, and buyers are only charged when the furniture is actually delivered. Unlike Chairish, there is no minimum listing price, meaning you really find the broadest range of items on the site, from high-end leather sofas to cheaper West Elm futons. And not only is posting your used item free, but AptDeco will enhance your listing by adding in extra details and improving your photography; it’s like getting an advertiser and a retail partner all in one.

The fine print: AptDeco is currently only available in New York and New Jersey, though it’s slated to open shop in Boston and Philadelphia soon.

Craigslist

Craigslist has to be included — it was the first of its kind! And is still a great option; you’ll just have to dig for bargains. Craigslist’s upper hand is in the sheer volume of products available. Yes, you can find used furniture, but you can also find an office to house that furniture as well as art pieces with which to decorate. If you’re selling, be sure to include as many clear, well-lit images as possible, and if you’re buying, be sure you ask questions before agreeing to meet.

The fine print: You’ll need to arrange pickup on your own. For safety reasons, make sure to bring a friend along with you and try to arrange a meeting in a public place.

Everything But The House

This marketplace is unlike any other. Everything But The House specializes in estate sales. Don’t waste time at auction houses — if you’re the kind of person who frequents auction houses — when you can simply shop online. Search by city, price and type of item, and have fun hunting around for hidden gems. Inspired by the Cincinnati antiques market and founded by seasoned vintage sellers, EBTH is a treasure trove of secondhand pieces. The selling process is extremely well-guided too: Start with a free consultation on the item(s) you want to get rid of, then work with the company’s team of experts to catalog, photograph and write product descriptions for each article.

The fine print: Move quickly — the sales are timed.

Letgo

This one’s a bit different, as it’s primarily an app, though the online store is just as extensive. Letgo is definitely one of the more seller-friendly brands on this list: Unlike most other secondhand marketplaces, the company doesn’t take a percentage of users’ sales. There’s a pro tips section to help sellers get rid of their products faster, and the app doesn’t charge for listings. It’s easy to use too, as Letgo uses artificial intelligence and image recognition to automatically title and categorize the piece you’re selling so all you have to do is take a photo.

The fine print: Letgo works best for local transactions because, as the company doesn’t handle money, you run the risk of not getting paid if you ship your product.

Viyet

If you’ve got a slightly higher-end taste in secondhand furniture, Viyet is the marketplace for you. Marketed as the online destination for designer preowned furniture, this is the place to go for upscale pieces at a significantly lower price. Seriously, you can score deals up to 80 percent off the retail price. Viyet works with individuals, interior designers and showrooms, vetting each and every item personally to guarantee authenticity. It’s also super-interior designer-friendly, offering a program that specifically caters to trade buyers and sellers so that they can find the best pieces for their clients.

The fine print: The designer tagline comes with some restrictions. There is a minimum retail price for furniture ($1,000), lighting ($500) and accessories ($100), and Viyet explicitly states that it doesn’t accept brands like Ikea, Crate & Barrel, Ethan Allen and West Elm.

OfferUp

Another popular selling app, OfferUp, aims to combine the convenience of Craigslist with a bunch of added safety features — after all, why trek through sketchy neighborhoods when you don’t need to, right? Deemed one of the safest ways to sell locally, the app aims to directly connect you with buyers or sellers through the app and chat with them about what you’re offering. This offers full transparency, as all transactions are reviewed on the site, and you can arrange pickup and drop-off in the way that works best for you.

Take it from Domino editor Alyssa Clough, who recently used the app to sell her sofa: “I live alone, so selling furniture often feels like a safety issue for me," she says. "I really loved using OfferUp for two reasons: 1) because you can upload a 'profile picture' so you know who you're corresponding with, and 2) because they have a chat feature in-app so you never have to exchange phone numbers — all your correspondence can stay in the app. It was easy to list and chat with potential buyers. I would really recommend it to anyone who's looking for a safe, secure exchange."

The fine print: You get full control of pricing and have direct conversations with potential buyers, but still always be sure to take precautions and have someone with you when you’re making your exchange.

Facebook Marketplace

Available right in your Facebook account, Marketplace is meant to be used as traditional shopping sites are — but with a social media twist. List your item in the appropriate section of the site, and wait until someone direct messages you about it. You’ll then be able to coordinate pickup, payment and other details accordingly. Not just aimed at home decor, Marketplace offerings span everything from electronics to books, but we think it’s perfect for getting rid of that old desk you swore you’d use but never did.

Furnishare

If you’re moving immediately and seriously can’t wait until someone comes along to take your furniture off your hands, Furnishare just might be the option for you. It requires almost no effort, save from you listing your product on the website. After that, Furnishare reviews your product within literally one business day and contacts you to arrange pickup. Then, just relax: Furnishare will work to sell your item for the best possible price, and once sold, will contact you so you can grab your portion of the profits (usually up to 40 percent). You can sell multiple items and cash out for a check delivered to your home address whenever your balance is above $0.

The fine print: Certain items, like mattresses and disassembled items, are not permitted, and you can’t determine how much you’re selling your item for — that’s Furnishare’s call.

Neil Patrick Harris is a man of many talents. Actor of stage, TV and the big screen, comedian, activist and perhaps most important, dad to 7-year-old twins Harper and Gideon and husband to actor-chef David Burtka. The diverse characters he plays — from womanizing bro Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother (for which he was nominated for multiple Emmys) to an East German trans rock star in Hedwig and the Angry Inch (for which he won a Tony) showcase his incredible acting abilities, raw talent and unbelievable comedic timing.

Harris is lovingly known to most of America as simply "NPH," and we got to catch up with him recently at a Jif event. We chatted about his favorite dad joke, his mom's proudest parent moment and what he would do if either of his twins ever dated someone like Barney Stinson (Hint: It involves a Taser).

SK: It’s so nice to meet you. I am a huge fan. Do you mind if I record this? I have a 2-year-old boy, and my brain is a sieve these days.

NPH: Oh, congratulations! Two is a lot. Two is fun, 4 is way more fun.

SK: I hear it gets progressively better, and then they go to college.

NPH: Well, and it happens progressively faster... Everyone said to us when our kids were 2, and we saying 2 is terrible — I mean, beautiful and horrible, and they said, "Oh, just wait — 3 is even worse," and that’s fun, and then all of a sudden — boom — there was 3, and then — boom — they were 4, and now they’re 7... When you’re in the weeds, it’s the worst thing to hear, but it really truly does rip by.

SK: Well, you have two of the cutest kids I’ve ever seen.

NPH: Thank you. It’s all the Botox mostly.

SK: Of course. Have they ever done anything that you felt, as a parent, you should chastise them for — but that you secretly thought was hilarious?

NPH: Yeah, that happens a lot, actually, because they have interesting points of view about things, and if they have a true comment about their take on a particular thing and it’s amusing... If it’s wrong but still amusing, you can’t smile even though you think it’s hilarious.

SK: Serious face.

NPH: Yeah, you have to make serious face a lot. And sometimes, they’ll do impressions of people, which isn’t appropriate, [but] as long as they’re not doing it in front of that person... Impressions are cool. I think impressions are funny. But you can’t really let them know that that’s OK. So they’ll leave the room, and then we’ll just burst out laughing.

SK: Speaking of hilarity, do you have a favorite dad joke that you’ve heard?

NPH: Um… Polar bear walks into a bar, and the bartender says, “Hey, polar bear, what can I getcha?” And the polar bear says, “I think I’ll have a... ... ...scotch and soda.” And the bartender says, “Hey, polar bear, why the big pause?”

SK: [Laughs] Nice. That is definitely a dad joke.

NPH: Thanks. Thanks so much.

SK: I’m sure it’s nearly impossible to pick a "proudest parent moment" of your own kids, but what do you think your mom would say is her proudest parent moment?

NPH: Um, probably our wedding. We had a very small wedding in Italy with just about 40 people, so I think when your parents get to see you stand up in front of the people closest to you and make commitments and express your desires in front of an accountable group of people, that’s kind of an adult thing to do, and they seemed like they were happy to see us take that step.

SK: That’s so nice. So, your twins are 7 now. Are you talking with them about what’s going on in the world right now? Are they asking any hard questions?

NPH: Well, we live in a world now where we don’t all sit as a family anymore and watch the nightly news together, right? So, I’m gaining my up-to-date news cycle information independently, so if there’s anything they have questions about, I want to be as informed as I can be, but I don’t really think it’s my place to fill them with my take on certain things.

That said... I’m pretty intent on them making informed decisions. So I’m not the biggest fan, regardless of how I personally feel about them saying overtly slanderous things about, you know, heads of countries, a lot of people do say that, and it’s understandable why they would parrot that, but I want them to make informed decisions and informed statements. So, while I may not disagree with those statements, I think it’s glib. So, yeah, I sort of leave that up to them.

I’ve said to our kids that I will be as truthful with them about anything that they want to ask me, and that doesn’t mean I will always tell them all the information that they need, but I will certainly not just say, "Because there’s a stork that has a thing that they carry in their mouth." [Laughs] So, I’ll answer questions if they want to know anything about violence or religion or politics, I’ll answer them, but I’ll try to answer them fact-based and not emotionally based.

SK: Well, that’s admirable of you.

NPH: Well, we’ll see what happens. I’m just going to be biting my lip a lot. [Laughs]

More: Neil Patrick Harris & Family Win Halloween, As Usual

SK: What do you think is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome, being a dad?

NPH: Probably trying to exist with sleep deprivation. It’s hard. Because that doesn’t get any better, and then you’re supposed to be making sound emotional decisions in a very unsound, overly emotional place, right? So that becomes tricky, trying to figure out how to sleep, or more like how to exist without it.

SK: I am with you on that one. What do you think you would do if Harper or Gideon ever dated someone like Barney, your womanizing character on How I Met Your Mother?

NPH: Well, my true, honest answer would be that I would hope before either one of them started dating, that they had asked questions and learned enough about how relationships can work for the positive, that they wouldn’t be swept up into something unarmed. My comedy answer would be that they should always carry a Taser.

SK: Good answer.

On Thursday, Khloé Kardashian admitted on Snapchat that she's feeling anxious about heading back to work almost 12 weeks after the arrival of her first child, daughter True Thompson (with NBA player Tristan Thompson of the Cavaliers).

“I’ve been thinking about the 6th, the 6th, the 6th. Oh, my God. I have to start work on the 6th, and I’ve been getting just anxious about it. And today I’m very anxious,” Kardashian told followers in a series of short videos as she snuggled True. “I don’t know how I’m going to leave her all day tomorrow. That’s freaking me out. But I got to go back to work at some point. So I’ll be OK, right, Mama?”

Kardashian praised her sister Kourtney Kardashian — mother of three — and apologized for teasing her in the past about all the emotions that come with motherhood.

On the Sunday previous, Kardashian chatted new motherhood on Twitter, saying, “Honestly [being a mom] is amazing! Of course it’s an adjustment but it’s so beautiful! Sometimes I don’t know what day it is or I don’t get a shower LOL.” But Kardashian said that True is sleeping more, which makes all the difference. “I get adult time, which is awesome," she said.

What We Still Don't Understand About the Opioid Epidemic & Women

$

The medical profession has a long history of disregarding women in research and treatment, from ignoring our pain or the differences in heart attack symptoms. The same has been true with how we're addressing the opioid epidemic according to researchers from Yale University

In a commentary published in The Lancet, women’s health research at Yale director Dr. Carolyn M. Mazure and Yale addiction medicine program director Dr. David A. Fiellin argued that policymakers, researchers and clinicians need to start considering how opioid addiction affects women differently.

More: What International Women's Day Has to Do With Health Care

“As we tackle this epidemic, we must be sure that action plans fully understand and include the influence of gender differences on pain, opioid use, and addiction,” Fiellin said in a statement. “Women and men are not identical, and we must treat all people with attention to their specific risks and clinical needs.”

Mazure and Fiellin say that women have a greater sensitivity to pain than men, and as a result are more likely than men to begin their misuse of opioids through medical treatment. They also note that doctors are more likely to prescribe opioids in conjunction with other drugs that may increase the likelihood of an overdose. In fact, the authors point out that between 1999 and 2016, overdose deaths from opioid prescriptions increased by 404 percent for men and 583 percent for women.

Pregnancy is another factor. According to Mazure and Fiellin, 28 percent of pregnant women entering addiction treatment reported misusing prescription opioids in 2012, up from 2 percent only two decades earlier.

There are other challenges as well. The authors argue that women seeking treatment for opioid addiction feel a greater impact of the increased limitations in their social and work lives, making it harder for them to keep a job or stable housing. This is especially problematic, they note, because women are most often the primary caregivers for a family.

On top of all that, many existing treatment programs and facilities have been developed around men and attempt to generalize the treatment for women, which doesn't always work. Mazure and Fiellin note that programs created specifically for women tend to have more success in opioid addiction treatment.

So, what can be done? To start with, the authors suggest there should be expanded insurance coverage for non-opioid pain-management therapies as well as having medical professionals who become familiar with and address the specific needs of women who require treatment.

More: Knowing the Signs of Cardiac Arrest & a Heart Attack in Women Could Save a Life

“Both women and men are suffering from addiction to opioids across the United States, across Canada, and increasingly internationally,” Mazure said in a statement. “But women and men experience different paths to addiction and possess different treatment needs. It is imperative that we understand these differences if we are to help people and save lives.”

Prince Charles' Guest Appearance on MasterChef Left Fans Baffled & Angry

Prince Charles clearly lives by The Bachelor franchise rules: no eating on camera. And he did just that on his recent MasterChef guest appearance.

More: Duchess Camilla Just Revealed Prince Charles' Fave Food, & It's So Relatable

MasterChef and royal family fans were on the edge of their respective seats waiting with bated breath for Prince Charles' appearance on the Australian version of the show. But when it came time for Prince Charles to actually eat food — a pretty vital part of this cooking competition aside from, well, cooking food — he just straight-up didn't. If you didn't watch the episode, here's actual footage of Prince Charles avoiding food:

Ryan Gosling not eating cereal GIF

Ha! Just kidding. But wallaby tartare did go cold. Green ant canapé was avoided like the plague. Goat cheese mouse with bush spices didn't even get prodded with a fork. Prince Charles was not about that MasterChef guest judge life.

Of course, fans were downright shocked! Totally outraged! Fires were started! A city has been turned to rubble! And by all that, I mean people took to Twitter to tweet their outrage.

The Prince of Wales was a guest of honor at a reception for 150 guests. According to News.com.au, contestants worked with the following ingredients: kangaroo, buffalo and crocodile as well as Kakadu plum, quandongs, rainforest lychees, lilly pilly, finger limes, desert limes and saltbush.

"The Prince of Wales is well known for loving everything home grown," MasterChef judge Gary Mehigan told the outlet. "This is a tremendous honor for us all. It is not only an enormous privilege and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to cook for His Royal Highness but a challenge too."

It's rumored that Prince Charles had a few valid excuses to suppress his appetite that night. According to The Sun, the royal family avoids eating shellfish and any raw meats while traveling to prevent getting food poisoning. And some even believe there's a "secret" rule that forbids the family from eating on camera. Or, and here's a wild guess, maybe he just wasn't hungry.

Leading up to the tasting, though, all the contestants were incredibly nervous to meet Prince Charles, and when they finally did, he charmed their pants off. He was an absolute delight — he even joked about the heat!

So, sure, he didn't eat their food, but I'm sure meeting him will be a moment they'll never forget — and that's all that really matters, right?

Will Smith Discovered the Only Key to Real Happiness

At this stage in his life, Will Smith has lived life to such an extravagant and exciting degree that you'd trust the wisdom of certain life lessons he's picked up along the way. During an interview with Tidal's Rap Radar podcast, Smith dispensed some of his wisdom that really makes you think — and makes you look at Smith in a whole new light.

More: Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith Don’t Like to Say They're Married

As reported by Us Weekly, at one point during the interview, Smith opened up about what he believes is the true key to his happiness (and maybe the happiness of others) while discussing his new song, "The Mountaintop."

"The idea is … I’ve been to the top of money, I’ve had all the sex that I’ve ever wanted, I’ve had all of the adoration," Smith explained. "I’ve been to the top of all those material world mountains and nothing makes you happier other than being useful to others. That’s it. That’s the only thing that ever will satisfy that thing, is that what you’re doing is useful."

For Smith, gaining this insight into what truly makes him happy and getting to a point where he can embrace this knowledge wholeheartedly has given him a special kind of freedom: "I’m granting myself the freedom to not give a fuck when I don’t give a fuck."

In another part of the interview, which has already gained notoriety for the actor's admission that he and wife Jada Pinkett Smith don't use the term "married" to describe their relationship, Smith also opened up about how he has worked to be positive, spread positivity and push back at negative criticisms.

"I always wanted to fight to prove myself," he noted. "Fighting yourself to maintain positivity is the hardest fight you're ever going have. That struggle to just stay my course, be the person in the world that I wanted to be no matter what people said. I started to call it offensive positivity."

Smith has said some pretty far-out things in the past, but these pearls of wisdom on being useful to others and actively using positivity to combat the negative are things we'll definitely be adopting.

6 Things to Know About HBO's Sharp Objects

$

0

Gillian Flynn's Sharp Objects is the last of her trio of novels to be adapted for the screen. Gone Girl and Dark Places have already received the silver-screen treatment. But just because Sharp Objects is last doesn't mean its least. In fact, just the opposite.

Dark Places, which was released in 2015, was lost in the shuffle despite starring Charlize Theron. It only has a 25 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Gone Girl soared to the top echelon of films in 2014, with an Oscar nomination for best female actor for Rosamund Pike. But Sharp Objects might outperform them all. It is the only one of the trio that is being adapted as a limited series. And it's getting major buzz.

Here's everything you need to know before the show premieres on July 9.

1. It was Flynn's debut novel in 2006

Before Flynn wrote her most well-known novel, Gone Girl, she started her dark and twisted take on female characters with Sharp Objects. According to The Guardian's Emma Brockes, it performed "modestly well."

Thanks to the success of Gone Girl and HBO's release of the Sharp Objects series next weekend, the book Sharp Objects now sits at No. 10 on The New York Times best-sellers list, where it's been for four weeks.

2. It will be hard to watch

From Amazon, the synopsis for Sharp Objects is as follows: "Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming."

But the murder mystery is hardly the biggest thrill of the novel. Instead, the character-focus on Camille and her journey to the surface of the depression she's been drowning in is the real and central story Flynn so beautifully and magnetically crafts.

Amy Adams in Sharp Objects

3. The psychological drama runs deep

The series comes from the producer of Get Out, so that should be your first clue this series will feel anything but typical. But it's also shocking and may contain triggers for certain audience members. The show's protagonist, Camille, is dealing with some big demons. She's an alcoholic and she has a history of self-harm, sometimes using her cracked iPhone screen as a way to cut her fingertips. But Camille's scars run much deeper when Sharp Objects begins: She has scarred her entire body with words etched into her skin. But why? Well, that's the true mystery the show will unravel.

4. It signals the coming of the female anti-hero

As Time points out, antiheroes are no longer the domain of men, like Mad Men's Don Draper or Breaking Bad's Walter White. Women are now entering that scene too, and rightfully so. "Not everyone is going to root for Camille," Flynn said to Time. "Not everyone will think Camille is likable. Who cares? She shouldn’t have to be."

5. Amy Adams is already getting Emmy buzz

Adams doesn't just bring emotional depth to the role. She brings in a whole other level of character work, which not all actors can accomplish. Flynn described Adams' performance to The New York Times, saying Adams "completely immersed herself physically, bodily, mentally into Camille." Adams also reportedly physically changed for the performance, spending three to four hours standing naked in the mornings in order to have the scar prosthetics applied to her entire body.

"I don’t have the same darkness and depth of internal anger, but that sort of sadness that drives you to be unkind to yourself? I think I have that," Adams said during an interview with Independent.

HBO's Sharp Objects

6. The excitement about the show is a sign of how good it is

The show is sitting pretty with an 88 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. During an Austin premiere, Time magazine described the crowd's reaction. "...the applause at the end is thunderous – cheering not necessarily for Camille, but for the arrival of a twisty, and twisted, mystery to watch on long summer nights."

The Hollywood Reporter calls it "[s]omething of a summer popcorn thriller for grownups." And described Adams' performance as "Emmy-ready."

Meanwhile, Variety says, "Sharp Objects is dazzlingly itself, a show in thrall to the horror of its premise but one that finds nuance within unremitting darkness."

Check out the premiere of Sharp Objects the evening of Sunday, July 9, at 9/8c on HBO.

6 Things That Are Actually Easier With Twins

$
0
0

Cautionary tales about having twins aren’t hard to come by. Parenting already requires an endless cycle of feeding, burping, diaper changing, bathing, soothing and rocking — all while you experience serious sleep deprivation, soreness and whacked-out hormones.

Now double all that, and you might have a vague idea of what it’s like being a mom of multiples.

That said, twins do come with certain advantages. Here are some things that are actually a bit easier when you’re dealing with twins versus one child at a time.

1. You only need to get pregnant once

Having twins means you’re spared the extra 10 months of morning sickness, swollen feet and hot flashes it takes other women to produce two babies. You may never again have to watch helplessly as random hairs sprout all over your face and other unwanted areas. Huzzah!

2. You’re forced to adapt more quickly

For Diana Cuccurullo, getting a routine down pat was more of a necessity than anything else. Nevertheless, settling into a groove with her now-10-year-old twin boys was easier than it was with her five daughters, each of whom were single births.

“The only truthful answer is you become more streamlined,” Cuccurullo told SheKnows. “You learn to do things more efficiently and quickly. Diapering one squirming toddler is tough, but two? You need to be fast and prepared. Two diapers, extra wipes and clothes are ready before you even begin.”

3. The terrible twos are one and done

If you don’t have any more kids after your twins, you’ll navigate some of the toughest parts of childrearing — think teething, potty training, the terrible twos and puberty — just once.

“At the time, it might have seemed chaotic to have two kiddos going through life stages at the same time, but looking back, I really think it's easier,” Tiffany Coffey, mom of 8-year-old twin girls, said in an interview. “Now I don't get why people have another baby once they've gotten one sleeping through the night and potty-trained, only to do it all over again. I got it all done at one time!”

4. Entertainment is handled

Though playdates are important for both parents and children, sometimes the thought of getting out and about is too overwhelming. Luckily, parents of twins can rest a bit easier knowing their kiddos already have a best friend: each other.

“Who doesn't love a playdate? It's good for the little ones to socialize, and it's good for the mommies as well,” Jennifer Benjamin wrote for Momtastic. “That being said, if I'm feeling lazy and tired and don't wanna go anywhere, my guys have each other to play with.”

5. Homework becomes more efficient

Helping your kids with homework is a time-consuming process, but it’s definitely a little less demanding when you’ve got two children in the same grade. It was for Bernadette Johnson, at least.

“School projects — the bane of every family — were much easier with twins,” the mom of 26-year-old twin daughters told SheKnows. “Since our twins are so different, they always had different ideas and insight into what they wanted to do. They would work off of each other. I think, because of that, they both did really well in school.”

6. You’ve got a built-in excuse

Keeping one kid alive is hard enough, but twins give outnumbered moms an automatic justification for saying no. Want to volunteer for the PTA? “Sorry, I have twins.” Can I stay with you while I’m in town next week? “Sorry, I’m just not up for it.” Messy house and piles of dirty laundry? “The twins, though.”

Having twins isn’t easy by any means. But when life with multiples gets hard, remember: You might have double the poop explosions, but you also get double the smiles, double the snuggles and — eventually — double the fun.

In the photo, Chip is still wearing his hospital bracelet, well after the baby's birth. Turns out Chip began the tradition with the birth of his first son 13 years ago. Joanna wrote in her caption: “Chip started a tradition with Drake where he wore the hospital bracelet until it fell off… looks like the tradition lives on. #5.” D'awwwwww. You guys. I mean.

It's been eight full years since the HGTV alums have had a newborn in the house, but Joanna told People the family is taking it all in stride. Check out this amazing photo of the four older kids in the family waiting outside the hospital room door to meet their new baby brother.

“We think about things like when Emmie goes off to college this little one will only be 10,” she told the magazine in April. “It’s just crazy to think how wide that gap is, but Chip just loves hanging out with the kids and it’s just such a sweet thing.”

In May, Joanna told People, “I think it’s sweet because they’re older now, and I can see them wanting to be a part of this. We’re all rallying around this baby, which I feel is a sweet gift to our family.”

Some people collect rare coins. Others save baseball cards in hopes of turning a profit years down the road. Dave Alexander, on the other hand, considers a McDonald's burger and a side of fries a collectable — and a way to "help to further scientific research."

And now, after six years of sitting on his now-sold shelf, the McDonald's value meal has finally hit the market. Thank God too. We've been dying to get our hands on a rare piece of history.

"The shelf that the burger was sitting on has been sold and now this incredible piece of history now needs to be re-homed," the eBay description reads.

6-year-old McDonald's burger and fries

Currently up for bid for about $150, the dust-covered, stale, plain cheeseburger and the "stunningly good-looking" fries come complete with the original packaging. How thoughtful.

"The fries look like they were purchased this morning," Ontario farmer Alexander told As It Happens guest host Robyn Bresnahan. "The burger itself has darkened a little bit. The bun is about as hard as a hockey puck, but it looks just like it's brand new cosmetically."

6-year-old McDonald's fries

As for the aforementioned dust, don't worry: Alexander cleaned most of it off — because he's truly a motivated seller.

"Please keep in mind, that there is six years of dust involved here, but most of it has been removed," he writes.

6-year-old McDonald's burger

Here's the full description that you must read in its entirety — in all its typo-ridden, capped, bolded and underlined glory:

"This is an ORIGINAL, plain McDonald's Cheeseburger and Fries MADE & PURCHASED JUNE 7, 2012

"ORIGINAL OWNER - Never eaten.

"This burger & fries has been sitting on a shelf for over 6 years!  The fries are in incredible shape. The Cheeseburger is plain with no toppings at all, just the bun, meat patty and slice of cheese.

"Please keep in mind, that there is 6 years of dust involved here, but most of it has been removed.

"ORIGINAL WRAPPERS ON BOTH!

"The shelf that the burger was sitting on has been sold and now this incredible piece of history now needs to be re-homed.

"Why not do your part to help to further scientific research and history and buy this burger.  You too can witness the majesty of the Cheeseburger & Fries that just won't die.

"Go ahead.... Name the Burger!  Make it part of your family!  It will grow old right along with you. (However, I do believe that it will out last you)

"This is no joke.

"This is a legitimate, very real McDonald's Cheeseburger & Fries that we bought in London, Ontario Canada on June 7, 2012"

The bid started at $29.99, and 30 bids later, it's reached $150 (at the time this article was published). And Alexander didn't even buy the burger himself — he asked his daughter to buy the meal in 2012. For comparison, he placed a homemade burger and fries next to the McDonald's meal, but the former didn't fare well.

"The cheese on the homemade one, especially the french fries, the potatoes, just look like little bits of charcoal right now," he said.

When asked if he'll miss the burger, he kept his emotions in check (but we all know he'll need a support system for this once it's sold): "I've been looking at it for six years, so now that it's moving, yeah, it's a thing. But I'm sure we'll move on."

So, if you're in the market for a petrified McDonald's burger and want to help contribute to science, now's the time!

Oh, and don't worry; bugs have steered clear of the burger too.

"We live in the country and we've never seen a fly land on it. Ever," he said.
