Gwyneth Paltrow, Bride-to-Be, Is Ready for a Wild Bachelorette Party

We're getting closer and closer to Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk's wedding day, and now, things are getting serious. We may not know much about the actual wedding ceremony just yet, but thanks to Page Six and my own imagination running amok, we can take a healthy stab at guessing what a Paltrow bachelorette party will be like. Paltrow has a very luxurious but fun party being planned for her, and it will be a great way to say goodbye to her single-woman status.

More: Gwyneth Paltrow Confirms Her Engagement in the Most Gwyneth Way Possible

On Thursday afternoon, E! News confirmed Paltrow had already arrived in Mexico with her bachelorette crew in tow.

According to Page Six's sources, Paltrow's bachelorette party has been planned by her friends, which include Cameron Diaz and Stella McCartney. Her friends have made sure the bachelorette squad will be traveling in style too. This mysterious source also claimed that a private jet that fits 12 people had been reserved to take Paltrow and her pals down to Mexico for some VIP fun. So fancy, and so very Paltrow.

Now, when I envision a dozen women heading to Mexico for a bachelorette party, I picture anything but a sedate affair. Paltrow may not be known as much of a wild partier, but I have a feeling she'll let loose a bit more than usual on this special occasion. Sure, a source confirmed to E! News that Paltrow and her friends will be spending the next couple of days in Cabo and will be relaxing and having fun, but do you really expect someone to spill the beans on all the fun things these women will be doing?

I'd hazard a guess that considering this is a Paltrow bachelorette party, there will be something very new age and unusual on the menu. Perhaps a round of vaginal steams and facial cupping treatments or maybe the ingestion of large amounts of spirulina-laden smoothies topped with gold dust from some cave deep in the heart of France. Or maybe they'll all sport some form of these ridiculously expensive bathing suits featured on the Goop website (has the Goop crowd never heard of Target?) while they lather themselves in artisanal sunscreen and then watch Paltrow sing the entire Country Strong soundtrack while hopped up on double tequila margaritas?

Paltrow confirmed her engagement earlier this year, using the cover of Goop magazine to announce to the world she and Falchuk were going to be tying the knot. She and Falchuk had been quietly dating for four years before they got engaged, having initially met in 2010 when Paltrow guest-starred on Glee (the show Falchuk co-created with Ryan Murphy) before reconnecting a few years later.

While discussing what excites her most about wedding planning, she told People magazine in late January, "It’s kind of fun to talk about [the wedding plans] with my girlfriends. They send me pictures of dresses — they’re as excited about it as I am. It’s pretty cute."

There's been no confirmation of Paltrow and Falchuk's exact wedding date or any other fun details about their upcoming nuptials. What is confirmed now is that Paltrow's bachelorette party promises to be wild, and all I can hope for is that Paltrow will post pictures of it once it happens.

Giada De Laurentiis Opens Up About Her Rocky Relationship With Bobby Flay

Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay have made their fair share of headlines over the years. Whether it's about their hit cooking-competition show, Food Network Star, which they've cohosted together for 13 seasons, or the monthslong rumor the pair were dating (they aren't, for the record), you can't deny the chefs' lives are interesting to follow.

The two are friends now, but that wasn't always the case. According to De Laurentiis, she and Flay weren't even speaking — for eight whole months.

More: Bobby Flay Really Did Quit Iron Chef, & Food Network Was Not Pleased

On the podcast Beyond the Plate, De Laurentiis said it happened after she teamed up with Flay for Iron Chef America in 2006 to go head-to-head with fellow Food Network stars Rachael Ray and Mario Batali.

"We lost, and he thought it was funny," De Laurentiis said. "He didn't think it was any big deal that we lost. I did not talk to him for eight months — eight months! I did not. Nothing. Silence."

Seems harsh, but the silent treatment was for good reason: De Laurentiis takes culinary competitions very seriously.

"It was a very big show, especially at that time, and I've cooked. I've gone to culinary school. I worked on my own dish all by myself, and I felt like he sort of half-assed it," she continued. "It was just TV [to him]. I took it very seriously. I think Rachael took it very seriously, and I was really disappointed."

The story doesn't end there. Apparently, Flay's reaction was less than savory.

"He didn't say, ‘Hey, I'm sorry that we lost,' or ‘Hey, you know we'll do it again.' Nothing," De Laurentiis reveals. "He just, like, walked away, and I thought, 'You're a jerk, and I'm never — I never want to be around you again.' Now, of course, we're best buddies and we hang out, but…"

As De Laurentiis said, all's well between the two; and aside from calling him a jerk, she only has pleasant words to say about Flay. Case in point: "I think that Bobby is one of those people that if you are his friend, he has your back forever, and he will stand up for you," she said. "He's one of those guys you can call in a pinch and he will get you out of it. He's special in that sense."

De Laurentiis has been making her rounds on her press tour for her recently released cookbook, Giada's Italy: My Recipes for La Dolce Vita.

Khloé Kardashian & Tristan Thompson Welcome Baby Girl

There's a new Kardashian kid in town: Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson welcomed their baby girl on Thursday, April 12, sources have confirmed to People and TMZ. Watch out, world, there's another Aries on the loose!

The baby, who reportedly has yet to be named, is said to be doing well. Kardashian's family — including mother, Kris, and sisters Kim and Kourtney — were in the delivery room along with the baby's father, Tristan Thompson, TMZ reports. That's right: Dad was there.

More: Khloé Kardashian Shocked to Learn She's Not Having a Boy

That may come as a surprise to some since the exciting baby news comes just days after reports Thompson had repeatedly cheated on Kardashian throughout her pregnancy. The most recent instance was reported on April 10, a week after Thompson was caught on camera walking into his hotel room in New York with an unidentified woman (who was definitely not Kardashian) in the wee, small hours of the morning. Prior to that, People reports Thompson had been caught canoodling around the country with various women.

According to Complex, Cleveland Cavaliers fans booed Thompson during his game on Wednesday night. Some people even held signs declaring their love and loyalty for Kardashian.

Despite any unfortunate news, Kardashian seemed to be in high spirits regarding her final days of pregnancy. Kardashian announced on her app she was "not afraid about giving birth" just days before she went into labor.

"I don't feel like I need to prepare for my birth by freaking myself out," she wrote, according to People. "I've seen over eight births live and in person. Women were made to do this! It's a very natural experience. I read my apps every day and I ask my doctor if I have any questions, so I'm honestly not that afraid. Of course I'm a little nervous to go into labor, but I'm trying to not overthink something that literally happens all the time."

As for how she feels about what comes after birth (you know, parenting), she wrote in another post that she feels cool and prepared thanks to her nieces and nephews.

"When it comes to being around kids, I feel like I've gotten some good experience thanks to my nieces and nephews," Kardashian wrote in a blog shared on her app. "I also basically helped raise my little sisters. But still, I don't think you know what type of mom you'll be until you have your own children. You can have all the training and preparation in the world, but you're never truly ready for motherhood — at least that's what people keep telling me. What I do know is that I have incredible patience and love for children, no matter what. And love gives me the will to handle anything."

The Kardashians are certainly no strangers to swaddling little ones. In January of this year, Kim Kardashian West and her husband, Kanye West, welcomed their third child, Chicago, into their family via surrogate. Weeks later, Kylie Jenner gave birth to her first child, Stormi Webster.

We sense many pink-filled playdates in the near future.

The One Thing Drew Scott Is So Excited to Do at His Wedding

Wedding planning seems to be going swimmingly for HGTV star Drew Scott and his bride-to-be, Linda Phan. On top of securing a plush Italian location and making sure other little details are nailed down (sorry, I can't resist making a good HGTV-adjacent pun), Scott is personally getting very excited about the big day for one special reason: He can't wait to dance. That's right; Scott can't wait to hit the dance floor after he says I do to Phan.

More: Drew Scott & Linda Phan's First Wedding Dance Will Have a DWTS Twist

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Scott explained why he's excited to dance at his wedding and how he got to this point. "I had no dance experience before," he explained about his twin brother, Jonathan, passing along his Dancing with the Stars knowledge ahead of Scott's big day. "But now we just want to dance every day. It’s definitely something we’ll be doing for life." OK, just the mere image of the always-adorable Scott and Phan dancing on their wedding day and just being super-cute dancing together in the future is really making me swoon. These two!

But Scott isn't only excited about the dancing. He's also getting sentimental about getting to marry Phan, full stop. While speaking with Us Weekly, he had this absolutely adorable revelation about what else he's looking forward to doing on his wedding day. "Looking into Linda’s eyes when she walks down the aisle," Scott remarked. "And knowing that’s the lady I’m going to be with for the rest of my life. I’m going to be crying like a fool. But I knew from the moment I met her that she was the one for me."

OK, this is literally too perfect. I can't even handle it. Does anyone have a spare tissue I can borrow?

It's been a long road to the altar for Scott and Phan, who have been engaged since December 2016. The pair got engaged after six years of dating, and now, two years later, it's easy to see why Scott is both excited and maybe even a little antsy to get hitched. Even back in 2016, Scott gave the impression he's always known Phan was his person, joking with People magazine about why he proposed after dating for six years before giving a very precious reason.

"I mean, for six years I’ve been waiting for her to propose to me, and I just figured she’s not going to do it," he quipped before continuing, "No, when you have someone as amazing as Linda, it was important to propose [because] I want to be with her for the rest of my life."

The couple has been through quite a lot in the last two years. Not only have they been planning their big day, but they've also watched as Scott's career has hit new highs over at HGTV, and they've actually filmed a TV show for the network themselves. They've been super-busy, but I'm willing to bet their wedding will serve as the sweet reward for all this hard work.

Happily, we won't have to sit and wonder what Scott and Phan's wedding day will be like — we'll get to see it for ourselves with their newly announced wedding special for TLC. Brit + Co. reports that Drew and Linda Say I Do is set to air in June and promises to take fans of Scott and Phan right into the heart of their Italian wedding. Oh, I can't wait!

Kristin Cavallari's New Reality Show Is Giving Me All the Nostalgic Feels

I'm slightly embarrassed by how excited I felt watching the Very Cavallari trailer. I wasn't even excited or interested in watching the show to begin with — or so I thought. I literally had zero feelings when the news of her reality TV comeback hit the interwebs. But as I clicked into the E! News article, hovered over the play button with my cursor and heard Cavallari's voice come through my computer speakers, a tinge of thrill went through me.

Trailer for 'Very Cavallari'

Trailer for 'Very Cavallari'

See?! Did you feel the excitement watching that? Did hearing Cavallari's voice make all the nostalgic feelings coming back?

"I'm so ready," she said. But all I heard was the raspiness in her voice; the familiarity of the mean valley girl we loved to hate all those years ago. (Side note: I only have love for her now. Girl power!) It was in that moment, though, that I realized, "Yup, I'm in." I'll be setting my DVR to record this, stat.

And it's all because of the nostalgic reboot effect. The Hills was a pivotal part of my teenage TV watching days. I loved to gab with friends over Lauren Conrad and Cavallari's needlessly dramatic love triangles and feuds. It was just the kind of un-empowered guilty-pleasure entertainment I craved in those awkward years — to dream of a life lived on a beach, where you are just so pretty and everyone thinks you're so cool — and alas, here I was: bushy eyebrows, a mouth full of braces and an untamable mane of frizzy Jew curls. I was not a man killer, friends. I was no Kristin Cavallari.

Now, seven years later, we'll see a different side of her — the very grown-up, boss lady side. In less than a decade, Cavallari has gone from reality star to mother, business owner and wife. The show, scheduled to premiere this summer, will follow her and hubby Jay Cutler's new life in Nashville as she continues to build her lifestyle brand. We'll be able to see how she's changed — and how she hasn't. "I have the craziest staff! Of course there's going to be drama, of course there's going to be hookups... it's going to be a wild ride."

And while we likely won't see the parenting portion of Cavallari's life (she said she would "never put [her] kids on a reality show" on the Make Speidi Famous Again podcast in January), a wild ride is all I need from her right now. I can't speak for anyone else, but adulting has been hard lately. I've felt stressed, overwhelmed and uncertain about the direction of my life. Now I know it's headed to my couch to watch whatever debacles unfold before my eyes.

When it seems like everything has changed, the world proves to you that, no, some things always stay the same. And apparently, my love for Cavallari and the hilarious chaos that follows her is one of them. I can't wait to numb my brain for a short while and lose myself in the Very Cavallari world.

Mariah Carey Talks About Living With Bipolar Disorder — but What Is It?

When Mariah Carey recently opened up about living with bipolar disorder, it put the spotlight on a well-known but often misunderstood mental health condition. Unfortunately, like several other conditions — like ADD and OCD — bipolar has become cultural shorthand for a person who changes moods quickly, but in reality, the condition is much more than that.

So what exactly is bipolar disorder and how does it affect people? We spoke with some psychiatrists to find out. None of the experts we interviewed are treating Carey, nor have they treated her in the past, but were able to provide general information on the condition.

What is bipolar disorder?

In short, bipolar disorder — formerly known as manic-depressive disorder — is a condition in which the mood changes from manic highs to depressive lows, Dr. Dion Metzger, a psychiatrist tells SheKnows. She says that some cases can be very severe, and people can have suicidal thoughts, impulsive behavior and frequent conflict in relationships.

More: Mariah Carey Reveals She's Living With Bipolar Disorder

According to Dr. Steve Levine, board-certified psychiatrist and founder and CEO of Actify Neurotherapies, the two “poles” — mania and depression — are typically distinct from each other (though it is possible to have “mixed states”) and represent a specific period of time in which emotion and behavior are markedly outside a person’s baseline state and interfere with social or occupational function.

Following a mood swing, the new state can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks or even months, Dr. Fran Walfish, a Beverly Hills family and relationship psychotherapist, author of The Self-Aware Parent, regular expert child psychologist on The Doctors (CBS TV) and costar of Sex Box (We TV), tells SheKnows.

What do these episodes look like?

“A manic episode is characterized by euphoria (extreme happiness), hyperactivity, risky behaviors, restlessness, little need for sleep, racing thoughts and trouble concentrating, which may lead to rapid speech,” Walfish explains. “A depressive episode is characterized by extreme sadness, a lack of energy or interest in things, an inability to enjoy normally pleasurable activities and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. On average, someone with bipolar disorder may have up to three years of normal mood between episodes of mania or depression.”

Bipolar disorder is recurrent: More than 90 percent of those who have a single manic episode will have additional ones in the future, Walfish says, adding that around 70 percent of manic episodes in bipolar disorder occur immediately before or after a depressive episode.

What are the symptoms of bipolar disorder?

The symptoms that come ahead of a diagnosis of bipolar disorder depend on the type of episode the person experienced. For example, during a manic episode, a person may experience a decreased need for sleep (up for days at a time), distractibility, impulsive behavior (like hypersexuality or excessive spending of money) and extremely high self-esteem, Metzger explains. Symptoms of depressive episodes are the opposite, consisting of feelings of hopelessness, excessive guilt, poor motivation, low energy and sometimes suicidal thoughts, she adds.

In order to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a person must have had at least one episode of mania or hypomania (lower-level mania) during their lifetime as well as one or more depressive episodes, Levine explains.

“During severe manic or depressed episodes, some people with bipolar disorder may have symptoms that overwhelm their ability to deal with everyday life and even reality,” Walfish says. “This inability to distinguish reality from unreality results in psychotic symptoms such as hearing voices, paranoia, visual hallucinations and false beliefs of special powers or identity. They may have distressing periods of great sadness alternating with euphoric optimism (a “natural high”) and/or rage that is not typical of the person during periods of wellness.”

These abrupt mood shifts are problematic because they interfere with reason, logic and perception to such a drastic degree that those affected may be unaware of the need for help, Walfish says, adding that if left untreated, bipolar disorder can seriously affect nearly every aspect of a person’s life.

MoreTori Spelling Reportedly Had a "Mental Breakdown" — but What Does That Actually Mean?

Typically, a depressive episode occurs before a manic episode, Walfish adds, and many patients are initially treated for major depression. Then, the first recognized sign of bipolar disorder is a subsequent manic episode.

“Once a manic episode occurs, it becomes clearer that the person is suffering from an illness characterized by alternating moods,” Walfish says. “Because of this difficulty with diagnosis, family history of similar illness or episodes is particularly important. People who first seek treatment as a result of a depressed episode may continue to be treated as someone with unipolar depression until a manic episode develops. Ironically, treating depressed bipolar patients with antidepressants can trigger a manic episode in some patients.”

What’s the difference between bipolar I & II?

There are two types of bipolar disorder: bipolar I and II. The primary difference between the two is the severity of the manic episodes caused by each type, Walfish says. While the depressive episodes are similar in both types, people with bipolar I experience more severe manic episodes than those with bipolar II. (Carey was diagnosed with bipolar II.)

“People who suffer with bipolar II are also less likely to have as [many] difficulties in other areas of life (work, marriage, etc.) because their symptoms aren’t as severe,” Metzger explains. “Nonetheless, they should still seek treatment to improve the mood swings.”

What is the treatment for bipolar disorder?

Most people living with bipolar disorder require a variety of treatments, including medication and talk therapy, Levine says. The medication typically includes mood stabilizers, which work to treat the manic highs and depressive lows for the patient to achieve a more stable mood, Metzger explains.

“The mainstays of medication treatment are mood-stabilizers such as lithium, but other medications may be necessary periodically to treat depressive episodes, psychotic symptoms, insomnia or anxiety,” Levine says.

Talk therapies can also be a very important component of treatment — vital to the person accepting their illness, being willing to engage in treatment, being educated about self-care and creating strategies to evaluate manic and depressive thought patterns, Levine says. “Along with all of this, maintaining consistent patterns, particularly sleep schedule, as well as healthy diet, exercise, meaningful activity and nurturing a support network are both protective and therapeutic,” he adds.

Because bipolar disorder can be very serious, it is important to encourage those who may be living with the condition to seek treatment and to get help yourself if you think you’re experiencing it yourself.

If you’re looking for resources for helping a friend or loved one or trying to get information about treatment for yourself, you can turn to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by calling them at 1-800-273-8255.

Did Prince William Just Reveal the Name of Baby No. 3?

From here on, members of the royal family may be forbidden from tossing back a few at a football (or as we call it in the States, "soccer") game while they're attempting to keep royal secrets on the DL. Prince William made a royal gaffe — like, a maybe-accidentally-reveal-the-sex-of-your-unborn-child gaffe — on Tuesday night after watching his beloved team, Aston Villa, defeat Cardiff City, The Mirror reports.

"I'm going to insist the baby is called Jack," he told fans after watching player Jack Grealish score the winning goal, according to The Mirror. Then, perhaps realizing just what he'd done, he paused and added, "...or Jackie."

Uh, someone please throw down a red flag, because that was one hell of a foul. We're guessing by the time the Duchess of Cambridge, aka Kate Middleton, heard the news, William wasn't smiling like this for much longer:

Prince William watches a soccer game with friends on Tuesday night.

If the couple is having a boy, at least we can feel confident the royal parents didn't get any name inspiration from late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who recently tried to convince unsuspecting people on the street that the baby would go by the name of Treacle T. Winterbottom and/or Humperdinck Patchybottom.

Up until this point, the royal family has done a great job at keeping most details, including the sex, of Prince William and Kate Middleton's third child under wraps. Even their delivery room (erm, colossal suite) at St. Mary's Hospital has been intensely guarded in anticipation of Kate's due date, April 23.

"Security does regular sweeps of the room, then it's resealed each time with tamper-proof tape," a source recently told Us Weekly. "It's a high-security operation. Even the crawl space above the room is checked regularly."

Of course, all the secrecy isn't preventing people from betting on the baby's name. Laughing Actually Has Some Health Benefits — No Joke

$

Ah, yes — nothing like that feeling right after a good, long laugh. Now, no one would argue that laughter is a threat to our health, but does it actually improve it?

Whether you’re laughing at something silly (e.g., that funny cat video) or more intelligent material, laughter itself is actually part of a sophisticated physiological response to humor. So, biologically speaking, laughing actually does a whole lot more for the body than just making our cheeks hurt.

“The physical act of laughter sends more oxygen to the brain and releases endorphins, the feel-good chemical that reduces stress, relieves pain and elevates mood,” Dr. Katherine Puckett, director of mind-body medicine at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Chicago, tells SheKnows. This lessened stress, she notes, lowers blood pressure and can even support your immune system.

These benefits extend from your mind throughout your muscles as well. “The movement caused by laughter surely helps everyone take part in physical activity, with some tightening of the abdomen muscles and some light stretching,” Puckett explains.

Laughter as medicine

Puckett puts the science to practice on a daily basis, leading laughter-therapy sessions for cancer patients, which, as she puts it, “make the unbearable... bearable”. She does this by creatively introducing "laughter vocabulary" to patients, which consists of "hee-hees," "ha-has" and "ho-hos." During the session, Puckett walks patients through a variety of exercises that simulate these sounds, like singing the tune to "Happy Birthday" with laughter vocab or greeting each other solely with giggles. The result? Guaranteed hysterical laughing by everyone in the room.

More: Surviving Breast Cancer With Humor: One Mom’s Story

“Patients not only feel uplifted, but they also feel connected with each other after the shared joyful experience," Puckett explains.

And this connection with others is key. According to Feruze Zeko, a licensed mental health counselor, laughing is something that supports our social lives — which has scientifically proven links to your mental and physical health.

“Laughing shows the people around you that you are open and approachable,” Zeko told SheKnows. “It gives everyone insight into how you’re feeling and immediately makes them more comfortable in the way they continue to interact with you.”

The subject of laughter is rather personal to Zeko, as she grew up in a traditional and patriarchal Eastern European culture where humor and silliness were discouraged in the behaviors of women.

“Americans would look at my face and wonder why I was so angry, but I wasn’t angry at all,” Zeko remembers, explaining how her more serious demeanor was off-putting to her new friends and clients. Making a conscious effort to laugh more often helped her gain the trust of people around her and build long-lasting relationships.

More: The Science of Thought: How Changing Your Thoughts Can Change Your Health

“The brain works with rewards and reinforcements,” Zeko says. “When you’re laughing and smiling, people tend to respond more positively to you. This makes you feel better about your actions and makes you more likely to do it again — it is a reinforcement.”

And so, as laughter becomes more of a healthy habit for you, you’ll find yourself feeling more valued and supported within your social group — an absolute must when it comes to your well-being.

Where to get your laughter fill

Puckett’s unique therapy sessions are just one example of laughter treatments occurring around the world. A number of nursing homes hold laugh classes for their residents. Some organizations dispatch clowns to war zones and refugee camps. You can even attend laughter yoga at various fitness studios around the country. But unfortunately, we won’t always have access to organized laughing resources every time we’re feeling down. While it may seem a little kooky to simulate laughing vocabulary on your own, our experts shared ways we can — and should — keep the giggles nearby.

Puckett recommends developing your very own “laughter tool kit,” such as a file on your phone or computer with cartoons, jokes or headlines that always make you chuckle. If need be, she also suggests using a device — a pen, a straw or your finger — to physically hold a smile on your face.

“If you hold a smile for 30 to 60 seconds, your brain's chemistry shifts," Puckett adds. "Your brain is actually tricked into thinking that you're happy.”

More: This Hilarious Trump Activity Book Will Make Your Laugh for a Good Cause

At the very least, you can simply try putting yourself in the mindset to laugh more often.

“Intentionally getting out of bed with a positive attitude sets a tone for the day,” Zeko says. “Things will bother you less, and you’ll be more inclined to laugh throughout the day.”

So, go ahead. Share those funny Facebook memes. Smile at your jerky coworker. Watch all eight seasons of The Office another time around. Doctor’s orders.

Hoda Kotb Reveals She Still Has a Relationship With Matt Lauer

Well, color me very surprised and admittedly a little disappointed about this Hoda Kotb-related news. I love Kotb. I love her energy. I love following her on social media and getting a peek into her personal and professional lives. I love it all. So, imagine my feelings when, during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Today lead coanchor revealed she is still on speaking terms with Matt Lauer. I mean, really? Considering what we know about her from other interviews and the way she's presented herself to the world, this information seems somewhat out of character; it feels like cutting contact with a man who allegedly sexually harassed women in the same workplace as you should be a breaking point.

More: There Was Plenty of Wine at Hoda Kotb & Kathie Lee Gifford's Today Anniversary

And yet, Kotb says, she can't simply walk away from the working relationship and friendship she built with Lauer over the years. "I mean look, this is one of those complex situations," she candidly tells the magazine. "I've known him since I started working at NBC. When I was sick with breast cancer, he was the first to call. He helps and helped in ways that …you know, he was incredible in that way."

Kotb began working at NBC in 1998, and is clearly saying that erasing 20 years of history with someone is next to impossible regardless of the circumstances, but went on to acknowledge that the allegations against Lauer complicate things exponentially. "There is that Matt and then there's the Matt that the accusers speak of," she explained. "And those accusers' voices matter and that story matters and it's… It's still tough, right?"

Kotb didn't elaborate on what she and Lauer discuss when they do talk or the frequency of their communications, but it's hard for me as a person on the outside looking in not to bristle a little bit at Kotb's remarks. There is undoubtedly something to be said about the difficulty of just letting go of an entire history with someone you've known for 20 years. Those kinds of personal histories don't just go away if you wish them to.

However, Kotb's attempted glossing over of the very real concerns that arise from her maintaining contact with Lauer feels a little too easy. Hopefully, Kotb recognizes why this could be seen as problematic, and I hope for her sake that she isn't negatively affected by associating with Lauer.

The Benefits of Breastfeeding — for You, Not Just the Baby

When we talk about the benefits of breastfeeding, we usually think about all the good stuff that liquid gold provides babies. And indeed, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, there’s “unequivocal evidence that breastfeeding protects against a variety of diseases and conditions” in infants. But what about moms — the ones faced with the actual decision about whether "breast is best"?

Well, there’s good news: We already know breastfeeding has benefits for moms (from the get-go, it can help the uterus contract after birth, thus reducing postpartum bleeding, and the calorie burn from breastfeeding can help with metabolism), but researchers are increasingly learning just how good breastfeeding can be for a mom’s overall health. This year alone, three studies have been released touting the long-term health benefits of breastfeeding for women.

More: I Thought I Was Immune to Breastfeeding Drama — I Was Wrong

In January, the results of a 30-year national study published in JAMA Internal Medicine showed that, compared to women who didn’t breastfeed at all, breastfeeding for six months or more across all births slashed a woman’s risk of developing type-2 diabetes by nearly half — while breastfeeding for a shorter duration (six months or less) reduced the risk by 25 percent.

Another study, published in January in the American Journal of Hypertension, looked at more than 3,000 nonsmoking postmenopausal women and found that those who nursed more children — and nursed them for longer periods of time — were less likely to suffer from hypertension after reaching menopause.

And in February, research was presented at the American College of Cardiology's 67th Annual Scientific Session showing long-term heart-health benefits for some breastfeeding moms — those who had normal blood pressure during pregnancy and who breastfed for at least six months. In addition, breastfeeding can offer women protection against breast and ovarian cancers.

“The important core of all of this is that breastfeeding is a two-person system,” says obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Alison Stuebe. Stuebe is an associate professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, the medical director of lactation services at UNC Health Care, a member of the board of directors of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and a member of ACOG’s Breastfeeding Expert Work Group. “It impacts the health and physiology and well-being of the baby," she adds. "It also affects the physiology and well-being of moms.”

More: The Weirdest Breastfeeding Gadgets, Explained

In fact, “if you think of breastfeeding, which can burn as many as 500 calories a day, as exercise in a chair, it makes sense that women who breastfeed for a long time might have some benefits,” Stuebe says. “And from an evolutionary standpoint, some pregnancy weight gain is fat that moms are stockpiling because their bodies expect to lactate. When that doesn't happen, we're changing physiology, and that can have consequences for health.”

But according to Stuebe, correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation. There are actually a few possibilities at play when we talk about breastfeeding’s relationship to a woman’s health. The first is the basic one: "Breastfeeding does stuff to moms’ physiology that confers health benefits," she explains. "Women who have trouble breastfeeding may be at higher risk of health problems down the line," she adds, "and the third [reason] is women who have the resources to breastfeed are more likely to have access to other resources that make them healthy.”

Resources and support, of course, are crucial and beneficial elements of breastfeeding success for most moms. “We need to make sure all women have access to resources that make it possible for them to breastfeed,” Stuebe says. “We want every mom to have complete information to make an informed decision. And we also need to recognize some women are not going to find breastfeeding works for them, even with all the systems of support, and we need to be fine with that and respect each woman's decision.” Amen to that.

But if you do want to — and are able to — breastfeed your baby, you can rest assured it's not just an act of motherly martyrdom. “Breastfeeding isn't just something that is good for baby — it’s associated with improved outcomes for moms, so there is something in it for her,” Stuebe says. “This isn't just an act of altruism and self-sacrifice.”

Charlize Theron Has The Most Qualified Co-parent to Help Raise Her Kids

Charlize Theron doesn't abide by patriarchal norms when it comes to parenting her two children, Jackson, 6, and August, 2. Instead, the single mother is rocking the matriarchy — and co-parenting her little ones with her mom, Gerda Maritz.

In a recent interview with comedian and activist Chelsea Handler for Elle, Theron opened up about why she believes it's so important to ask others for help when raising children.

More: The Different Looks of Charlize Theron Through the Years

"I knew that I would have to have my mom help me if I was going to do this as a single parent," Theron said. "To not acknowledge her in co-parenting my children would be a lie... I would feel pretty alone if I didn't have a partner in crime in all of this."

Theron, who broke off her engagement to Sean Penn in 2015, has always been candid about how Maritz's parenting style has inspired the kind of mother she wanted to be with her adopted children. Shortly after bringing Jackson home, Theron told Vogue UK her goal was to be "fair, tough, loving, and supportive," just like her mom.

"My mom has made it possible for me to be who I am," she added. "Our family is everything. Her greatest skill was encouraging me to find my own person and own independence."

More: Charlize Theron's Adoption Made Her Boobs Hurt... Yes, Really

But seeking help wasn't always easy for Theron, who admitted to Handler that she initially struggled with letting people in after Jackson was born because she feared she'd be perceived as "a bad parent." Once she welcomed August into her family, her view on parenting shifted, and she said she's better for it.

"The second time, I realized I am happier, and my kids are happier if I ask for more help," Theron said. "People think I have a staff of 40, but I don't. I have one nanny and my mom up the street and amazing friends and family. I call them my village."

Theron explained that she has relied on said village a lot this year as she grapples with the troubling reality of raising Black children in the Trump era. Theron said she's fearful of how her kids will be treated in a time when the president himself has called white nationalists "very fine people."

"I don't even know how to talk about the last year under our new administration," Theron said. "But racism is much more alive and well than people thought. We can't deny it anymore. We have to be vocal. There are places in this country where, if I got a job, I wouldn't take it. I wouldn't travel with my kids to some parts of America, and that's really problematic. There are a lot of times when I look at my kids, and I'm like, 'If this continues, I might have to [leave the U.S.].' Because the last thing I want is for my children to feel unsafe."

More: Charlize Theron Is One Hot Mama — Literally!

The actor, who grew up in apartheid-era in South Africa, added that she wants her children "to be so fucking proud of who they are" and that when they're older, she plans to talk to them about white privilege and explaining how systemic racism will impact them differently than it impacts her.

Hopefully, with the help of their amazing mom, her mom and the rest of that village, Theron's kids will grow up to know a safer and more equal America. Hopefully.

Survivor's Chris Noble Isn't the Arrogant Guy You Think He Is

Chris Noble vs. Domenick Abbate. It has been the biggest rivalry so far on Survivor: Ghost Island. The standoff came to an early end, though, as Chris found himself on the bad side of the vote after the three tribes finally merged. In our one-on-one interview, Chris revealed his true feelings about Domenick and explained why Libby Vincek is being perceived as such a threatening player. Plus, he discussed the "low-blow" comments Wendell Holland made about him shortly before he was voted off.

SheKnows: Clearly you were blindsided by the vote because you didn't play the Idol. So what did you think was going to happen at Tribal Council?

Chris Noble: I knew I was getting two votes from Dom and Wendell. After that, I wasn't quite sure. There were some question marks because I knew some people wanted to vote for Libby. Your guess is as good as mine. I just had to gamble on building relationships and trust. If there's any way a guy like me is gonna get to the end in this game, which is why I play, I play to win, I knew I'd have to survive at least one or two Tribals relying on trust. Without being at Tribal, I didn't know where the lines were drawn before that. I had to risk it because that Idol would've become a lot more powerful since I'd get to vote. We'd be one less person down at the next Tribal and my chances of going home would've increased even more. That would've given me a better opportunity to really take control. It was worth the risk.

Chris Noble voted off Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: Did you reveal to anybody you had found an Idol?

CN: I did tell one person right before we left [for Tribal] so word wouldn't get out. I told Angela because she actually has been one of my biggest allies. She was one of the closest people I was with throughout the duration of the show since day one. I asked her what people's thoughts were. I asked her what she wanted to do. Then I asked if they were gonna go for me. She was like, "I think they're gonna go for you next Tribal. I think some of us are gonna be voting for Libby." I asked if she was sure and I was like, "Don't tell anyone, but I have the Idol. If you think I should play it, I need you to be honest with me. I will play it." But it didn't work out. She was honest with me and she did vote Libby.

SK: There has been quite a bit of talk these last few weeks of targeting Libby, but we really haven't seen much of her story on the show to understand why she's such a strong threat. What is it about Libby we haven't learned yet?

CN: She's unfortunately being labeled as some of these big-time pretty women that were threats strategically [from past seasons] who used flirtation and in the game. It's unfair to her. If you want my personal opinion, I didn't think she was like that at all. She was completely loyal to the Malolo tribe. I knew if I was gonna be with her I would have to be with Malolo, which I was cool with. I personally think some people just might not have liked her for her looks or whatever. I thought there was some unfair judgments on her. She's as loyal a person as you're gonna get.

SK: You and Domenick were going after each other since the first episode. What was it about him that made you guys such huge rivals?

CN: We're very similar personalities, actually. He's a New Yorker. I've lived in New York. You want to get things done, you've gotta be quick and you've gotta make it happen. You've gotta be aggressive, and that's just who we were. The problem was that we both misunderstood the other's intentions, which is part of the game. He constantly kept lying to me and I knew I had to get rid of him. He was trouble. I was also going after him, so he had to go after me. It could only go one way.

SK: Looking back, is Domenick somebody you could ever see yourself aligning with?

CN: Now that I know him personally, I definitely would love to [laughs.] There's something about him I was uneasy about before the game started. Then with the hand raise [in the first episode] that just set me in motion that this guy was trouble. I would love to still align with him, but I would always have it in the back of my head that this guy could easily lie and not blink. I think him and I definitely could do damage together. We both cover certain areas of the game that one of us might lack or one of us might be good at. We would be a good partnership, but he would screw me before I could screw him, probably.

Domenick Abbate competes with Chris Noble on Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: It seems as if Domenick is being showcased as the person who's playing the best game. Would you agree he's playing the best game or is there somebody else lurking in the shadows who we should watch for?

CN: I would definitely say Dom is playing the best game at this point, even as my biggest rival. He took me out, and I can only respect that. He's got the advantages. He found a way to get Bradley out. He's manipulated a lot of people. Looking at the season at this point, I still can't believe how many people wanted to work with him and trust him. It's absolutely bizarre. They're either on vacation or just some of the most naive people around because this guy will turn on you in a second. I would say the most courageous game is from Michael. Being an 18-year-old kid, I'm absolutely fascinated with him. I think he's an amazing character, and I think he's just really way beyond his years. He's been on the losing side of just about everything, but he's done an amazing job. I'm really happy for him. I would be rooting for him if I was a fan.

SK: What is your take on the relationship between Domenick and Wendell? Should Wendell be trusting Domenick?

CN: I think that's a very creative way for you to get a spoiler, and that's not gonna happen. At this point in the game, they clearly are a power couple. It's pretty evident. Everybody went to the water well but them two. They were the ones who scripted my departure and tried to get me to go on their side. What do they see in each other? I can't tell you. I can't speak for them. I think they probably see very similar plans. Here's the catch with that. Wendell is a silent assassin. Wendell likes to observe. I caught onto this during my time out there. He was a silent killer. He's a really quiet guy, and the minute someone leaves he would be real quiet and whisper. Dom is the exact opposite, as you can tell. Dom will be out there saying his opinion, and that's how I was. That's why the thing between Dom and I was just electric and amazing to watch on television.

SK: Wendell made some very memorable comments as he was voting against you. What was your reaction to watching him say those things?

CN: I think my reaction would be just about like anyone who is on the other side of that. I wear my last name on the back of my jersey with pride. I went out in a noble way. I went out with class. Trust me, I was just as angry and wanted them dead just as much as they wanted me dead. I got eliminated and I went up there and said, "I love you both." I shook Dom's hand and I did it with class. This was a competition and they got the best of me. But for him to go the low-blow route and take it to that level was not classy. Frankly, I'd be embarrassed if I did that. I don't know why it had to be like that. I didn't even brag about being a rapper. I just goofed around because people kept asking me questions and I thought I'd make them laugh.

SK: Have you talked to Wendell about it since the episode aired?

CN: No. He hasn't written an apology or anything, but I'm not one that needs an apology. We bonded a lot after we were done with the show. We have a good relationship, so I'm sure at some point things will be talked about. But until then, you guys are asking me how I feel about it and that's how I feel. It's nothing I wouldn't tell him. I thought it was just ridiculous.

Wendell Holland votes against Chris Noble on Survivor: Ghost Island

SK: How do you feel the edit portrayed you?

CN: The edit was a roller coaster ride. I'm sure I rode the emotions of the fans just as much. The thing I came out there for the most was to tell my mom's story and spread awareness of MS. They put it in there and I will be forever grateful because I accomplished my dream. I spread awareness to over 8.2 million people that episode in my confessional about my mom. The show goes on, but I'm not as arrogant and cocky as some people might have thought in their confessionals. I think I was misunderstood, but this is a TV show. This is what I signed up for. If we had to make this really basic, I had a very complex cut and I am a complex personality. Was it to the extreme at some points? Absolutely. Am I cool with it? Yes. This is television. I know who I am. It was a fun ride. I accomplished something I always set out to do and I'm grateful for everyone at Survivor and CBS.

SK: How did you get on the show?

CN: A buddy texted me and asked if I was interested in being on Survivor. I said, "Yeah. Sure." They got me in touch with the right people. To make a long story short because I don't want to take too much time, they were looking for what I heard in the grapevine was Captain America. My stuff got sent in, I did all the paperwork and video, and I made it. I'm very blessed for that. My mom is very happy about it, too.

Two Original Queer Eye Stars Are Reuniting For a TV Comeback

We are in the middle of a major Queer Eye renaissance, honey, and the good news from the Queer Eye corner of the world of pop culture keeps rolling on it. After a successful Netflix reboot of Queer Eye (the "for the Straight Guy" portion of the original title has been dropped for a more modern feel) premiered earlier this year, viewers became as obsessed with the new crop of Queer Eye boys. From our obsession with Jonathan Van Ness' quippy charm to the pure angelic hotness of Antoni Porowski to the triumphant joy of a Queer Eye makeover subject finding love with a former spouse, the Queer Eye reboot has provided us with an embarrassment of feel-good riches. But, what about original Queer Eye fellas? What are they getting up to these days?

More: Queer Eye's Favorite Couple, Tom & Abby, Made a Huge Relationship Announcement

Well, as of Thursday afternoon, I can confidently confirm that at least two of the original Queer Eye team are making their major TV comeback with a new show on Bravo. According to E! News, Queer Eye stars Carson Kressley and Thom Filicia will be heading to Bravo with a show currently titled The Thom and Carson Project. You mean to tell me that the comedic, stylish genius of Queer Eye's first style consultant will be paired with the stealth perfection of Queer Eye's first interior design specialist and they're coming to Bravo (a.k.a. my favorite TV network)? Oh heck yeah, I am already all the way in.

Queer Eye Can You Believe GIF

The show, as described by E!, will see "Filicia [take] Kressley under his wing to teach him interior design by channeling the latter's impeccable fashion sense. The duo will create breathtaking and affordable home re-designs for their clients using their expert skills and their signature charm." Okay, now you've reeled me even further in than I could have thought possible, guys, so just give me the pilot episode already. Or, better yet, the full season; mama is ready to b-i-n-g-e.

Both Kressley and Filicia announced the happy news on their respective Instagram accounts. Accompanying a photo of the report from another news outlets, Kressley wrote, "Guess who’s headed back to @bravotv!!!" before directing fans to the link in his bio (but you don't need to click that link because you're reading it right here, silly). Filicia posted a similar photo, writing, "We’re Baaaack! Hoping you will all come along on this new journey with old friends," and paired the caption with a house emoji, hammer emoji and two hands raised in excitement emoji.

Carson Kressley I Am Pumped GIF

It's been a hot minute since Kressley or Filicia have been on our TV screens in this capacity, wherein they get to return to their lifestyle/makeover niche of television programming. To be fair, Kressley hasn't exactly been away from television for too, too long. He's appeared as a judge on multiple episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race since 2015 and had a particularly memorable turn on The Apprentice in 2017. In fact, since the original Queer Eye wrapped in 2007, Kressley's TV credits include guest host stints on Live! with Kelly, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and The Doctors. Kressley hasn't taken too much time off, but it'll certainly be good to see him back in action in a role very similar to the one he originated on Queer Eye.

Filicia has admittedly kept a somewhat lower profile, although he has appeared on other TV shows at various times since Queer Eye wrapped, including Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Million Dollar Contractor and Dress My Nest. He's also been showing off his design chops on Instagram, treating us to the latest design styles and giving us an itch to see him back in action on television. As the owner of Thom Filicia Inc., a design firm based in New York City, it's no wonder that Filicia is keeping us updated on his latest project because it serves as just a taste of what he's doing in real life.

More: Dancing with the Stars: Carson Kressley Knew He Was 'Toast'

Now, it looks like that wish will finally come true. While there's no premiere date set for Kressley and Filicia's new show, you can bet your boots I — like many original Queer Eye fans — will be setting aside some room in our weekly schedules to sit down and watch each new episode as it airs.

Why Are You Seeing Charcoal in So Many Foods, & Is It Any Good for You?

$

Have you put a little charcoal in your coffee lately? How about swallowed it in pill form?

Seemingly out of nowhere, the newest health fad to hit the market is activated charcoal. Goop created a recipe for charcoal chaicharcoal-laced lattes are popping up in coffee shops; ice cream is going dark; and folks are turning their burger buns black. It’s also being sold in pill form as a supplement.

Proponents of activated charcoal claim it traps toxins from the body and does everything from reducing gas and bloating to preventing hangovers to being useful as a digestive cleanse as well as being used as a teeth whitener and facial cleanser.

But the real question is: Are these claims accurate or totally bogus?

How did this start?

For many years, charcoal was a first-line defense against poisoning in emergency rooms. A charcoal mixture was given patients who had, for example, accidentally or intentionally ingested toxic substances. This is because charcoal is able to bind other substances to itself, an excellent quality in a poisoning emergency.

But using charcoal isn't as common in emergency rooms now. "Charcoal, once used in nearly all overdoses, is very rarely used today," Dr. Stuart Spitalnic, an emergency medicine physician at Brown University, tells us. "The summary reason is that it just doesn't do much for most overdoses," though it still plays a role in a couple.

"Most commonly it's used for Tylenol or aspirin intentional overdoses," Dr. Amy Baxter, a pediatric emergency physician adds, explaining that it's not effective for alkali poisonings, cyanide, ethanol, iron, lithium, methanol, mineral acids or organic solvents.

More: What Are the Health Benefits of Acupuncture?

The idea that charcoal will "bind" to other substances, including toxic substances, is likely what prompted the current fad. But that doesn't mean it's doctor-approved. "There is no reason to put it in food or beverages," Spitalnic says. "The fantasy of 'toxins being removed,' or of toxins that need removing is ridiculous."

More: Is Fresh Air Actually Good for Your Health?

So does it work?

Activated charcoal proponents have many claims about what the substance is good for, and because the FDA doesn't review the claims, it can be hard to figure out what's real and what isn't.

One claim is that charcoal could reduce gas and bloating. True or not? It's possible, Dr. Svetlana Kogan, a medical doctor, master hypnotherapist and experienced Ayurvedic practitioner, tells SheKnows. Foods like cauliflower, broccoli and celery contain indigestible cellulose, and bacteria works on these foods over time trying to digest them, producing gas.

“If the person has a small amount of charcoal that they ingested with [these foods], it will bind it… and they will poop it out,” she explains. This could plausibly reduce gas and bloating, and a double-blind study in 1986, published in The American Journal of Gastroenterology, measured hydrogen levels in breath to quantify colon gases and found that activated charcoal was effective. But another 1999 study, published in the same journal, found that ingesting charcoal did nothing to reduce gas. A better idea, Kogan says, is to just avoid foods that make you gassy.

Kogan is especially skeptical of claims charcoal is a hangover cure or digestive cleanse. To start with, digestive cleanses are, as she says, “a very broad, nonspecific claim” that would be hard to test in a scientific sense. As far as a hangover cure, “some physicians claim that you will bind the toxic metabolites of the alcohol and then symptoms will get better,” Kogan notes. But according to a 1986 study published in the journal Human & Experimental Toxicology, charcoal didn't have any effect on blood-alcohol levels in people.

More: Why Even a Little Bit of Exercise Can Make a Big Difference

What about if you don't eat it?

Teeth whitening and facial cleansing are two other big areas where charcoal has gained traction. In these areas, experts have fewer reservations. "Charcoal toothpaste is great at removing surface stains," Dr. Mark Burhenne a dentist at Ask the Dentist says, particularly for coffee, tea and red wine drinkers. "But if you're looking for intrinsic color change due to fluoride damage, weak enamel or medication that has changed the color of your teeth, then activated charcoal won't work."

However, charcoal can be especially abrasive, which can erode enamel. He recommends doing a quick search of the relative dentin abrasivity of your toothpaste to see if it's safe. If you can't find it online, don't take the risk.

Certain charcoal products are fair game to use on your face too. "Activated charcoal is certainly a new way to cleanse and exfoliate the face," says Dr. Michele Green, a RealSelf dermatologist in New York City. "However, it is not the most effective." Products that contain activated charcoal can cause irritation, especially if the activated charcoal is paired with glycolic acid or salicylic acid, she warned. But she says because it's so absorbent, "it makes a great acne mask when activated with water."

Are there any side effects?

Because there aren’t any large-scale studies on the effects of charcoal in these conditions, it’s hard to be clear what the reliable benefits and possible side effects are. Some people should be especially wary of ingesting activated charcoal. For example, if you have ongoing gut problems, like irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory colitis, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, charcoal could be a very bad idea. “It can cause blockages and inflammation, and it’s a recipe for disaster,” Kogan warns.

The takeaway

Remember that the FDA does not control or test supplements, which means companies aren’t liable for whether the product works or not. Kogan recommends speaking with your doctor to help you weigh the possible benefits and side effects. But she says to stay aware of the power of marketing.

“It’s a huge industry right now, activated charcoal. Once it had the money to populate social media… just by seeing this over and over again, people develop some kind of trust,” she explains. “But that’s what it is; it’s brainwashing.”

So, like most fads, it's best to proceed with caution (if at all).

Better Together: Skin Care Ingredients That Play Nice With Each Other

When it comes to skin care ingredients, there are friends and there are foes. Just like us, some skin care ingredients can be paired together to conquer the world and the peskiest of skin care concerns and others can work against each other and wreak havoc on our faces.

When you walk into Sephora, Target or Walmart, there are what seems like thousands of options to choose from. Some are at a price point that seems too good to be true and others are so stinking expensive it would take a year to save up for a month’s supply. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars and countless hours purchasing and applying products that promise to answer every skin care prayer you’ve ever had with little to no results, try pairing potent, powerhouse ingredients that work together to get the job done.

We touched base with NYC dermatologists and got the scoop on how to cocktail the perfect dynamic duo to meet your skin care needs.

Dull, lackluster complexion

There are days — whether it’s due to stress, lack of sleep, inadequate water consumption or poor skin care habits — when our skin needs a pick-me-up. While returning to a regular skin care routine can suffice, an addition of active ingredients can revitalize and give skin a boost (think of it as a push-up bra for your face).

“For dull skin, a combination of glycolic acid and vitamin C can leave skin smooth and refreshed,” shares Dr. Marina Peredo, a New York City dermatologist. “Glycolic acid exfoliates dead skin cells and vitamin C helps to brighten the skin.” If you don’t incorporate these ingredients into your skin care routine regularly, an easy and inexpensive fix to this problem is finding a gentle face scrub with these active ingredients to revitalize your complexion. Gently exfoliate once or twice a week to slough away dead skin and reveal a natural glow.

L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Daily Scrub Cleanser

Instead of opting for two unique products, use this budget-friendly cleansing scrub, which infuses both active ingredients, glycolic acid and vitamin C, to keep your complexion radiant.

Acne-/blemish-prone skin

If breakouts pop up here and there or never seem to go away, a blend of dermatologist-recommended ingredients can not only treat existing pimples but help prevent them as well.

“Acne is multifactorial,” shares Dr. Kimberly Jerdan, cosmetic dermatologist. “Not only do you need to combat the bacteria, but you also must normalize the skin cell turnover.” Jerdan recommends pairing benzoyl peroxide and retinoid to tackle stubborn breakouts.

PCA Skin BPO 5% Cleanser

skin care Ingredients That Work Together: PCA Skin BPO 5% Cleanser

Cleansing acne-prone skin with this benzoyl peroxide-infused cleanser will help eliminate acne-causing bacteria while calming and treating existing breakouts.

This gentle retinol formula will stimulate cell turnover and improve discoloration and excess oils and will treat acne and acne scarring while you snooze.

Another popular duo when combating acne breakouts is glycolic acid and salicylic acid. “A combo of glycolic and salicylic acids is like a mini chemical peel at home,” shares Peredo. These potent acids will gently exfoliate and relieve inflammation without drying out your skin.

M-61 PowerSpot Pads

A simple swipe of this pad will help cleanse pores and reduce those stubborn red pimples with a blend of salicylic acid, glycolic acid and witch hazel.

Hyperpigmentation

While there are many products and treatments that claim to lighten dark spots, you may find yourself with a basket full of $100 creams that don’t seem to be doing the trick. If an even complexion is your skin goal, you might find that most dermatologists recommend a lightening agent called hydroquinone.

“Hydroquinone is a tried-and-true ingredient and organic compound used to correct hyperpigmentation, but most of the time, it should be prescribed under the supervision of your dermatologist,” recommends Peredo. Pairing this brightener with a daily SPF will not only help treat existing spots but protect against future dark spots appearing.

SkinMedica Lytera 2.0 Pigment Correcting Serum

Safe for all skin tones, this over-the-counter pigment corrector is dermatologist-approved and aids in lightening even the most stubborn of dark spots.

Aging skin

Whether you’re in your 20s or you’re legally a senior citizen, slowing down signs of aging is likely on your mind when perfecting your skin care routine. Decreasing the sight of mostly unwanted visitors, from crow's-feet to fine lines and wrinkles, can be tackled with the proper ingredients.

“Retinoids help combat textural changes, improve signs of skin damage and brighten your complexion,” says Jerdan. “When combined with vitamin C and E topicals, antioxidants can better access the skin to fight off extrinsic factors that may be aging the skin.”

The duo of vitamins C and E is often used by skin care experts to repair skin cells as you age. Vitamin C helps to stimulate collagen for a plump and youthful look and protects skin from environmental pollutants while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin E is a powerhouse ingredient that reduces the signs of aging by blocking free radicals from attacking and damaging the skin.

Our Favorite Emma Thompson Quotes of All Time

There are so many reasons to adore Emma Thompson. She's smart. She's funny. She's talented. And perhaps our most favorite trait of all, she's a straight shooter. Not only does she constantly deliver powerful performances, but she also serves as a voice of reason in the often-fantastical celebrity world.

More: Emma Thompson's 11-Minute Takedown of Hollywood's Predator Crisis Is a Must-Watch

But the best way to appreciate the magnificence that is Emma Thompson — and get a dose of inspiration at the same time — is to take a look at her words. Think you respect her now? Wait until you read the following quotes from this outspoken lady of London.

On the problem with perfection

Emma Thompson quote about happiness

“We’re all supposed to be happy all the time. What is that about? Why have we lost contact with the possibility of saying, ‘Do you know what? I can’t do that. Sorry, I can’t manage that as well.’” — to Good Housekeeping, 2010

Can we get an amen? We all fall prey to the facade of perfection thanks largely to the prevalence of social media today. But Thompson's right! It's OK, healthy even, to admit when we just aren't feeling 100 percent. It's a normal, human experience that we shouldn't feel ashamed of.

On aging

“People wanting to be 35 when they’re 50 makes me think: why? Why don’t you want to be 50 and be good at that?” — to The Guardian, 2014

This entire false narrative that aging is bad and should be dreaded needs to get the kibosh. Love the age you are, like Thompson does. Every stage of life is beautiful in its own right — seek out that beauty when in doubt. We promise it's there.

On ageism

“I remember somebody saying to me that I was too old for Hugh Grant, who’s like a year younger than me, in Sense and Sensibility. I said, ‘Do you want to go take a flying leap?’” — to Vulture, 2015

Ugh, we'd like to apologize to Thompson on behalf of the universe that this even happened. However, her response is pure perfection. And at least we're starting to see things change for veteran female actors like Thompson and Helen Mirren.

On "having it all"

Emma Thompson quote about appreciation

“Sometimes you’ll have some things, and sometimes you’ll have other things. And you do not need it all at once; it’s not good for you.” —  to Good Housekeeping, 2010

This whole "having it all" thing — who coined that phrase anyway? Thompson hits the nail on the head when she says you don't in fact need to have everything at once. That just sounds... exhausting, doesn't it?

On acting

“I believe that actors and anyone in the arts should be outsiders, so that we can say whatever we want and hold a mirror up, as Shakespeare says, to what’s really going on in the world. We shouldn’t be within the pale of polite society. It’s a disaster that actors have become so respectable.” — to Advocate, 2014

Do you get the sense that if creative people actually lived like this life would be infinitely more interesting? 'Cause we do.

On children's films

“The films I’ve made for children have been my hardest work, my best, because kids deserve the best. You look at what’s out there for children today, these awful things, the cynicism of it. It’s about selling products; children going, ‘I want the toy.’ I mean, in my day there was such a thing as selling out.” — to Parade, 2013

Children do deserve the best. And as a mother whose kids adore the Harry Potter and Nanny McPhee movies, I personally applaud Thompson for her commitment to creating such stellar content for little ones.

On being herself

“Maybe I don’t take myself so seriously anymore. And I don’t care how I’m judged. I’m past all that.” — to The Telegraph, 2006

May we all one day reach the point that we care as little about what other people think as Thompson does. That's the life goal, right? (Seriously, why do we care so much about other people's opinions?! Let's just decide to stop right now.)

On heartbreak

Emma Thompson quote about heartbreak

“If you’ve got to my age, you’ve probably had your heart broken many times. So it’s not that difficult to unpack a bit of grief from some little corner of your heart and cry over it.” — to BBC, 2003

Thompson has the right idea. It's my personal belief that everyone should lean into their grief instead of running from it. Heartbreak is capable of inspiring incredible change and producing powerful art if we just let it — Thompson and Helen Hunt are living-proof of that.

On supporting other women

“I get behind as many young female performers as I can and actually a lot of the conversations I have with them are about exactly the fact that we are facing and writing about the same things and nothing has changed, and that some forms of sexism and unpleasantness to women have become more entrenched and indeed more prevalent. When I was younger, I really did think we were on our way to a better world, and when I look at it now, it is in a worse state than I have known it, particularly for women. And I find that very disturbing and sad.” — to Radio Times, 2015

More, now than ever, women need to be in each other's corners. Strong women in the entertainment industry like Thompson taking younger, more vulnerable women under their wings sets an example we should all strive to follow.

On her (mutual) girl crush

“Well, I met Sandy Bullock at an awards thing a couple years ago, and she said to me, ‘If I were gay, you’d be the one.’ And I said, ‘I’m there!’” — to The Advocate, 2014

Hello, match made in girl-crush heaven! Thompson and Bullock's mutual admiration for each other gives us life.

On articulacy

“We have to reinvest, I think, in the idea of articulacy as a form of personal human freedom and power.” — to The Guardian, 2010

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Shall we say it again? Yes. We live in a time when debating has become a cultural milieu. We need to be able to express our thoughts in a measured and intelligible way if any ground is to be made.

On sexual assault in Hollywood

Emma Thompson quote about sexual assault

"One of the big problems about the way in which our systems work at the moment is that there are so many blind eyes. And we can't keep making the women to whom this happens responsible — they're the ones who've got to speak. Why? We've got to look and say, 'This is happening,' and say, 'This is happening!'" — to BBC 2, 2017

Yes, the fact that we keep having to initiate these conversations is appalling. However, Thompson points out a salient truth: Not having the conversations simply isn't an option. To be silent is to be complacent.

On poverty

“There's an awful lot of misunderstanding here about what being poor actually means. I don't think people understand that being poor means you have to work from dawn until dusk just to survive through the day. I think there's some notion that poor people lie about all day not doing anything. It is remarkable how many misconceptions there are here about life in the developing world and I think that that knowledge gap has done a lot to contribute to the imbalance quite frankly.” — to BBC News, 2003

Here's one of the 1 million reasons to love Thompson: She speaks the truth even when she knows people don't want to hear it. Nearly half of the world's population lives in poverty, with 1.3 billion people living in extreme poverty. Let that sink in for a second.

Heinz Stirs Up Controversy With Its Latest Release: Mayochup

Heinz has officially stepped in to tackle one of the great debates of our nation. No, it's nothing political. It's about, well, a condiment...

Do we or do we not need a premade blend of ketchup and mayonnaise?

Yesterday, Heinz sent out one tweet — a poll — asking Americans: "Want #mayochup in stores?" And at the time this article was published, it has amazingly amassed over 690,000 votes, far surpassing its goal of reaching 500,000 votes, with 55 percent voting yes on the premade condiment and 45 percent passing on it altogether.

Mayochup Heinz poll

"Mayochup is a delicious blend of Heinz Mayonnaise and Ketchup, said Nicole Kulwicki, director of marketing for Heinz, in an email statement. "This is a condiment for all occasions — whether dipping fries, dressing a burger or making a sandwich."

Mayochup Heinz

Let's get one thing straight before we go any further: This is nothing new. "Mayochup" is just "fancy sauce." We all know this. Do we really need a bottle that already mixes the two together when we've been doing it ourselves for years? Hell, when I was growing up, it was the best part about eating fish sticks — squirting ketchup on our plate, then dropping a dollop of mayo, and stirring them together. (Yes, we dipped our fish sticks in fancy sauce; don't @ me.)

Clearly, the folks over at Heinz are well aware the name may(o) or may not stick — especially considering this particular blend isn't just known by fancy sauce. In Utah and Idaho in particular, it's called fry sauce; and in Latin America, it's called salsa rosada, or pink sauce.

Mayochup tweet responses

Mayochup tweet responses

"At Heinz, we are always looking for opportunities to bring great tasting products to our consumers. The next question at hand is the final name this delicious combination," Kulwicki says in a press release. "We know our friends in Idaho and Utah are passionate about Fry Sauce, and we've seen lots of other great suggestions online, so if we get to 500K YES votes, we will be giving the nation a say in our final name."

Currently, Mayochup is available in the Gulf States, and by the looks of the poll should begin making its way to other states — with or without that controversial name.

The Official DWTS All-Athlete Cast Has Been Revealed

Updated April 13, 2018, 7:50 a.m. PT: The official casting announcement for Dancing With the Stars Season 26, which will be a four-week mini-season featuring only athletes as contestants, happened early on Friday morning on Good Morning America. As is tradition, the DWTS pros joined the GMA team in teasing the audience with sleek choreographed dance numbers before joining the contestants backstage and then emerging, pair by pair, announcing who the athletes would be that were joining this mini-season.

We already knew there was some Olympic star power in the mix, with news emerging a week ahead of the official announcement that Adam Rippon, Tonya Harding and Jamie Anderson had been cast. While this was unconfirmed by ABC, it turns out this intel was true as all three athletes joined their dance partners onstage.

These three athletes will be joined by the following athletes and they'll all be competing for that coveted Mirror Ball: Notre Dame basketball star Arike Ogunbowale, Olympic luger Chris Mazdzer, Olympic softball pitcher Jennie Finch Daigle, retired pro-baseball star Johnny Damon, Washington Redskins footballer Josh Norman, retired basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Olympic figure skater Mirai Nagasu. Talk about a stacked cast!

Per Variety's report on the official Season 26 lineup, here are the official pairings between the athletes and the DWTS pros.

  • Adam Rippon with Jenna Johnson
  • Arike Ogunbowale with Gleb Savchenko
  • Chris Mazdzer with Witney Carson
  • Jamie Anderson with Artem Chigvintsev
  • Jennie Finch Daigle with Keo Motsepe
  • Johnny Damon with Emma Slater
  • Josh Norman with Sharna Burgess
  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with Lindsay Arnold
  • Mirai Nagasu with Alan Bersten
  • Tonya Harding with Sasha Farber

Original story, published April 5, 2018, 8:30 a.m. PT: Fans of Dancing with the Stars know that each season, the athletes tend to do pretty well. And why wouldn't they? They have a serious advantage over other competitors because they're prepared for the physical rigors of constant training and the rehearsal schedule for the show. They're less likely to get injured, and they're used to the pressure of high-stakes competition.

This season, there will be no advantages because it will feature an all-athlete cast. The full cast announcement isn't coming until Friday, April 13, but the first three athletes to sign on to compete have been revealed, and they're three heavy-hitters from the pantheon of Olympic all-stars. According to the latest report from Entertainment Tonight, chances are good we'll see 2018 Winter Olympics champs snowboarder Jamie Anderson and figure skater Adam Rippon join the DWTS athlete-centric lineup along with former Olympian and pop-culture icon, Tonya Harding.

More: 13 Dancing With the Stars Feuds We're Still Not Over

ABC hasn't confirmed this news, but the network typically doesn't comment when casting leaks occur ahead of an official announcement. We don't know yet what other celebrity athletes we're going to see round out this cast, but we're super-stoked about the first three. Here are a few reasons.

Jamie Anderson

Jamie Anderson throwing glitter gif

Anderson is the only female snowboarder to win multiple gold medals; she won the inaugural slopestyle event in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia and then repeated that at this year's Olympics in Pyeongchang. Also, she's just hilarious and adorable (I'll refer you to the glitter-throwin' GIF above).

Anderson is also coming in hot off competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics, so she's in top shape. But she competes in a truly solo sport, so working in a team may put her at a disadvantage compared to other athletes who are used to working well with others. Still, her competitive nature may just come through and surprise us all.

Adam Rippon

Adam Rippon skating

Like Anderson, Rippon just competed in this year's Olympics, so he's also in top shape. He has the added advantage of being a figure skater, which means his training and skills are very similar to those of a dancer, except he does it on slippery ice with blades on his feet — which sounds way harder if you ask me. Pulling off these moves in regular shoes on a floor with actual traction seems like it'll be a breeze for this dude.

Rippon is sure to be a fan favorite after he became an internet sensation during the Pyeongchang Olympics. But from what we can tell from some Googling, he's never competed in pairs skating. The fact that he's used to flying solo may be detrimental when it comes time to pull off complex moves with a partner.

Tonya Harding

Tonya Harding skating

Harding has a very complex history, both in the world of sports and in pop culture. After rising to the top of the figure skating world in the late '80s and early '90s, she became more villain than hero after she was accused of orchestrating an attack on fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan. The ensuing public debate about whether Harding actually had a hand in Kerrigan's injury resulted in her being banned from competitive skating for life.

She's recently come somewhat back into the public's good graces after the award-winning film I, Tonya portrayed her as an abused woman, consistently victimized by those she loved and pressured to do whatever it took to win. Harding's definitely going to be controversial on this season of DWTS, but her figure skating background will likely translate well to the dance floor.

Harding hasn't competed in some time, though, which could be a disadvantage when she arrives on the DWTS dance floor. She was briefly a competitive boxer, but quit in 2004 because of her asthma. The fact that she isn't in competition-ready shape puts her a step behind some of the other athletes who have signed on to compete, but Harding has been a scrappy competitor all her life, so we have no doubt she'll do well.

This athlete-focused season of DWTS is short — only four weeks. That means we're not sure how many total athletes will compete, but we do know eliminations will be coming fast and furious. Out of these first competitors to be revealed, though, my money is on Rippon to make it far. He's a top-tier athlete with dance experience, and he's bound to compete with joy and a happy attitude, which can only help.

Which news do you want first: the good or bad news? We'll give you the good news first. "Pioneer Woman" and Food Network star Ree Drummond and her husband Ladd's new hotel, The Boarding House, is officially open!

Ready for the bad news? The hotel in their hometown of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, is already booked — for six months.

According to People, when reservations opened up at the "cowboy luxury" hotel last Thursday, all eight rooms sold out in 30 minutes. The first available booking date is Dec. 12, and according to its website, bookings past March 2019 will be available soon.

"Each suite in The Boarding House is designed to make you feel right at home," the website states, and the rooms are all appropriately named too: The boudoir is a "perfectly polished parlor" with velvet furniture and sparkly chandeliers. The butterfly room is "a soft, soothing space." The drugstore room is clean and classic "with wood paneling [and] industrial metal furnishings." The emerald room has gorgeous green tile in its bathroom. The photograph room has "a combination of sophistication, simplicity, and plenty of photographic eye candy," and the prairie room and ranch room take inspiration from Snively Barn on Drummond Ranch.

But why read about it when you can take a look for yourself?

Leading up to launch of The Boarding House's website, Ree was on-site ensuring the hotel and all its rooms were in perfect, proper shape. "We've been arranging, rearranging, dusting hanging, straightening and fluffing getting ready for four of our @pwboardinghouse rooms to be photographed for our website tomorrow," she wrote on Instagram. "Then Thursday we'll arrange, rearrange, dust, hang, straighten and fluff the other four rooms to be photographed Friday. I'm glad we only have eight rooms. I'm gonna be all out of fluff by the end of this week. (I'm better in the kitchen.) Home stretch!"
