Your Next Trip to Disney World Is Going to Be More Expensive

If you're planning a trip to Disney World or Disneyland or you're just a Disney fan, listen up, because there's a big change happening.

Disney World and Disneyland are raising their theme park ticket prices.

More: 8 Travel Mistakes You're Making & How to Avoid Them

Effective immediately, Disney is now raising the price of admission tickets anywhere between $2 to $7 in Orlando, Florida. An adult-value ticket to the Magic Kingdom now costs $109 (a $2 increase), regular park tickets are now $119 and peak-day tickets are now $129 (both a $4 increase). Tickets to other parks (Disney's Hollywood Studios, Epcot and Animal Kingdom) will now cost between $102 and $122.

Those of us who are completely obsessed with Disney (like me!) and want to go to Disney World year-round will also have to pay more for annual passes now. Silver passes are now $439; gold passes are $589; and platinum passes are $729.

More: 14 Beautiful Destinations to Visit if Adventure Is Your Top Priority

If you're closer to Disneyland, there's some good news for you. Even though a few tickets are rising by $11, which is worse than Disney World, not every ticket there is becoming more expensive — a value one-day park-hopper pass is $10 less and is now $147.

So why the price increase? Well, Andrea Finger, a Disney Spokeswoman, told Refinery29, "We know how important making memories at Disney theme parks is to families and we will continue to evolve our pricing in a way that gives families a range of options to meet their budget and helps better spread attendance throughout the year so they can make the most of every visit."

The happiest places on Earth may have gotten harder to get into, but once you step in and see that beautiful castle in front of your eyes, it will all be worth it.

Amy Schumer Got Married, & Basically Told No One (Except a Few Celebs)

Surprise! Amy Schumer is married! And here's the kicker: She basically nailed the whole surprise celebrity wedding thing, because nobody knew this was happening except for the few people Schumer reportedly texted to invite to her last-minute nuptials.

The wedding reportedly took place on Feb. 13 at a rented beachfront home in Malibu. Several sources confirmed Schumer had tied the knot with her boyfriend of a few months, chef Chris Fischer, prompting her to post some wedding photos to Instagram with a caption reading simply, "Yup."

So how did Schumer manage to keep this so quiet? Apparently, she just mass texted her friends a few days in advance, and since most of those friends were celebs like Schumer, they knew to respect her privacy.

"It was a very chill wedding. It was thrown together last minute," a source told Us Weekly. "Most of the guests found out the wedding was happening on Tuesday from a text message sent out by Amy on Sunday. It was like, 'Hey, this is happening. If you can make it, great. If not, no worries.' People were in and out all night. It was a gorgeous day. Everyone was having a good time."

Us Weekly reports that Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Aniston, Larry David, David Spade and Judd Apatow were some of the famous names in attendance and that Schumer had a strict no-photo policy to help keep the news from leaking.

Schumer also made sure to clarify this wasn't a shotgun wedding (considering the wedding happened so quickly) and that folks could make a donation to the Everytown for Gun Safety group rather than send gifts.

I'm So Over the TV Reboot Madness

It started off cute in 2016 when the reboot of Full House — called Fuller House — came to fruition. Wouldn’t it be fun to see what D.J. and Stephanie Tanner and their pal, Kimmy Gibbler, were up to? That was quickly followed by a less-than-satisfying reboot of one of my favorite shows ever, Gilmore Girls.

More: Milo Ventimiglia Changed His Mind About Rory's Baby Daddy on Gilmore Girls

Even if they weren’t well done, the networks began clamoring to find titles to bring back — One Day at a Time, Dynasty, even MTV's Total Request Live. It’s like the network executives sit around a conference table and look at their show catalog from the 1980s and 1990s. They’ve run out of ideas, so they hit the nostalgia button over and over again.

And it has to stop. I am officially over the reboot madness.

In the last month alone, the networks announced the rebirth of shows like Charmed, Magnum P.I. and Party of Five. I know I am not alone in my reboot exhaustion. Even the stars of the former shows are dismissing these new incarnations.

Take a look at what Holly Marie Combs had to say about the Charmed reboot. She has no time for it — at all.

In my opinion, the studios need to develop fresh material. Viewers are actually responding to it and the shows are walking away with major accolades during awards season. Series like This Is Us, Big Little Lies and The Handmaid’s Tale are either adaptations from books or original concepts. While familiarity is nice sometimes, originality is even more refreshing.

More: Is Big Little Lies Season 2 Actually a Good Idea?

Maybe the networks see reboots as a way to reconnect with their audiences, who seem to be leaving in droves thanks to streaming networks and cord-cutters? They may also see it as giving comfort in global times that are uncertain — when it’s familiar, it feels like home.

But this downward trend we've been seeing with television ratings for quite a while now is because people don't have the same viewing habits of a decade ago. And sorry, TV execs, but I don't think reboots are going to change those habits either.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that CBS’s strategy for pilot season 2018 is focusing heavily on female-centric stories. While that is great news, it's not original content with female leads. The network is relying heavily on its reboots, including Murphy Brown and Cagney & Lacey, to carry them to a more gender-balanced finish line.

CBS is also delivering Magnum P.I. and L.A. Confidential for pilot season and The CW is aiming to bring Roswell and the already maligned Charmed back into the fold. Frankly, all of this news is just exhausting and it makes me spend less time watching TV.

On social media, there is a quite a bit of evidence TV viewers are feeling the network recycling fatigue as well.

The one thing saving some of these reboots is that they are reimagining them. One Day at a Time has been tremendously successful by focusing on a Latino family — Party of Five intends to follow that same blueprint. The Greatest American Hero reboot is going to take a female spin this time around (starring New Girl's Hannah Simone!). This is one way to make an older property seem fresh again.

But is a reboot really fresh when it went off the air less than 20 years ago? Does that really seem fresh to you? With so many incredible streaming services out there, I would just rather watch the original series. A reboot can water down the legacy that a cast and crew created with the series and that hardly seems fair.

At the end of the day, though, it’s time for Hollywood to bring forth original stories again. It’s better for TV viewers; it’s better for emerging talent both on- and off-screen; and it’s better for the entertainment industry because it keeps people hungry for new ideas. Anything else just seems lazy.

McDonald's Is Going to Make Happy Meals a Whole Lot Healthier

Get ready to see a healthier Happy Meal menu at McDonald's.

The fast food company announced that by 2022, McDonald's will improve the Happy Meal menu of 120 markets, offering more balanced meals and simplifying its ingredients. McDonald's also aims to be more transparent with nutrition information and "reinforce responsible marketing to children," according to its press release.

More: McDonald's Is Actually Giving Away an 18-Carat Diamond Ring Worth $12,500

The company's five new global Happy Meal goals include making at least half the Happy Meals listed on menus under 600 calories and under 640 milligrams of sodium with less than 10 percent of the calories from saturated fat and less than 10 percent of the calories from added sugar. For reference, only 28 percent of Happy Meals in 20 major markets currently meet these criteria.

In terms of simplifying ingredients, McDonald's will remove artificial flavors and added colors from artificial sources and reduce artificial preservatives. If you remember, the fast food chain made moves in 2016 in the U.S. by removing artificial preservatives from Chicken McNuggets.

Happy Meal options will soon only include a hamburger and four-piece and six-piece Chicken McNuggets, with the small french fries replaced with kids-size fries in this six-piece meal. You won't see the cheeseburger option, but you can still request it if you'd like it. Lastly, McDonald's will reformulate its chocolate milk to reduce the amount of sugar. Until then, you won't see the chocolate milk option listed, either, but, again, you can ask for it.

Bottled water and the Honest Kids Appley Ever After organic apple juice will both continue to be beverage options.

The improvements to the Happy Meal menu are part of the company's long-term global growth plan and its commitment to Alliance for a Healthier Generation. McDonald's began working with the not-for-profit in 2013 in hopes of increasing its customers' access to fruit, vegetables, low-fat dairy and water.

"We recognize the opportunity that we have to support families as one of the most visited restaurants in the world, and remain committed to elevating our food, celebrating the joy of reading, and helping those in need through Ronald McDonald House Charities," said Steve Easterbrook, McDonald's president and CEO, in a press release. "Given our scale and reach, we hope these actions will bring more choices to consumers and uniquely benefit millions of families, which are important steps as we build a better McDonald's."

When can you expect to see all the aforementioned menu changes in the U.S. specifically? Sooner than you'd expect: by June of this year.

The Walking Dead Is Pushing the Boundaries With Its First Naked Zombie

Are people still watching The Walking Dead? I can't say I've ever been a huge fan of that show, but I'm connected enough to pop culture to know it's gone seriously off the rails in recent seasons, and it's difficult not to wonder if after eight seasons on the air, it's time for the show to quit while it's still (relatively) ahead.

More: Every TV Show That's Been Renewed in 2018 — So Far

But no end is in sight, and executive producer Greg Nicotero is dishing details on the upcoming second half of Season 8 and some of the ways he's continuing to push boundaries on a show that's arguably already pushed them further than fans are willing to support.

"There’s an episode where we did our first fully nude walker. We’ve never done that before," Nicotero spilled to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming surprise. We don't know anything about the gender of this zombie or whether "fully nude" means full frontal or this will be implied complete nudity, but we do know one thing: This is completely unnecessary.

In a show that has seen a steady decline in viewership amid criticism for a plot that's become unbearably slow and nonsensical, you'd think the executive producer would be focusing his energy on revitalizing the writing, coming up with some of the shocking twists The Walking Dead was known for in its early days. Instead, what he expects to get viewers hyped about new episodes is this: a naked zombie.

More: Could [SPOILER] Be the Next Character to Get Killed Off The Walking Dead?

Also, why? That's a question that I've found myself asking over and over throughout The Walking Dead's run about the gratuitous violence in every episode. But this is a whole new level of why? What does a nude walker bring to the show other than some weird, cheap media buzz? How will it make the show better? The answer is that it won't. It gives no value to viewers, and with its ratings getting more abysmal by the season, value for viewers is what The Walking Dead needs right now.

How a Transgender Woman Is Able to Breastfeed

$

For something so natural, breastfeeding has become a controversial topic. Whether it's people complaining about others nursing in public or shaming parents who opt not to breastfeed, everyone has an opinion on if, how and where it should be done. Now, we've reached a new parenting and reproductive health milestone: the first documented case of a transgender woman breastfeeding her child.

An article in the journal Transgender Health discusses the case of a 30-year-old transgender woman who opted to breastfeed her child. She approached doctors when her partner was five months pregnant, informing them that her partner did not want to breastfeed their baby, but she did.

More: Trans Rights Are Human Rights & Civil Rights — & Yes, That Includes Bathroom Usage

Although the woman had not undergone gender-affirming or breast augmentation surgery, she had previously taken six years of hormone therapy. Then, in order to breastfeed, she took a regimen of incrementally increasing hormones (estradiol and progesterone) designed to mimic the levels seen during pregnancy, as well as domperidone (a nausea medication known to increase milk production) and began breast pumping. Three-and-a-half months after she started this regimen, the baby was born (weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces). At that point, she was able to produce enough breast milk to be the sole source of nourishment for her child for six weeks.

During that six-week period, the baby's pediatrician reported that the child's growth, feeding and bowel habits were developing normally. After six weeks, the parents began supplementing the breastfeeding with formula in order to meet the baby's need for more food and nourishment. When the article was submitted for publication, the baby was 6 months old and the parents were continuing to feed using the combination of formula and breast milk.

This process may sound novel, but in reality, it's very similar to the way doctors induce lactation in cisgender women who cannot produce milk on their own or have adopted or used a surrogate. And prior to this case, there is evidence online that other trans women had attempted this on their own, but this is the first documented case in medical literature.

The doctors who oversaw this process see this as an early step toward integrating the health concerns of transgender individuals into what is considered "mainstream" medical practice.

More: This Helpful Service Gives Trans People the Health Care They Deserve

“Transgender medicine is becoming part of mainstream medicine," Dr. Tamar Reisman of Mount Sinai hospital in New York, one of the doctors who reported the case, told The Guardian. "We’re getting more evidence-based data, we’re getting more standardized care, we’re getting more reproductive options.”

One thing Reisman does not appreciate are all the questions about whether this means cisgender men can now breastfeed.

“That, implicitly, is saying that you see transgender women as cisgender men, which is transphobic,” she told The Guardian.

While great strides still need to be made to make health care — especially relating to reproduction — more inclusive, the ability to induce lactation in a transgender woman is promising.

Celebrities Push for More Than Just 'Prayers & Condolences' After Florida Shooting

The Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, claimed the lives 17 people, most of them teenage students at the South Florida school. It was the 18th school shooting in the 45 days of 2018 so far, and as usual, the politicians who apparently have it in their power and jurisdiction to do something to stop these horrific massacres from happening are still offering their ephemeral "thoughts and prayers" to the victims, their families and everyone else touched by this terrible tragedy.

More: How to Talk to Your Kids About Scary Things

There is decades-worth of data from other countries that prove gun control works because school shootings do not happen with this frequency seemingly anywhere but the United States these days. There are actions that could be taken. But our politicians never do, and until they do, this isn't the last time this will happen. More children will die.

In the wake of this horrific event, many celebrities have taken to social media to demand an end to the seemingly pithy condolence "thoughts and prayers" and instead enact some real legal changes. Gun control: that's what they want — and what Americans everywhere want. Among those calling for real action to put sensible gun laws in place on Wednesday were Reese Witherspoon, Elizabeth Banks, Chelsea Handler and Mark Ruffalo. You can read their full comments below.

In the wake of more than a dozen more dead, it's become abundantly clear across social media that many people have had enough of "thoughts and prayers." There is a fatigue that this requisite sentiment, which seems to get spat out with increased regularity, is no longer sufficient in easing the pain we feel or the fears around when the next mass shooting will happen. Simply put, Americans have had it. We are tired.

Will this be the time politicians step up? We can only hope this is the last time we have to watch American children die completely preventable deaths.

What 'Vanillas' Can Learn About Consent From Kinksters

$

0

The rise of any phenomenon in popular culture is generally followed by a rise in research about it. For a few years now — in part thanks to the popularity of the Fifty Shades of Grey books and movies — BDSM has become much more openly discussed, less taboo and certainly a popular genre of erotic fiction. Despite the well-known weaknesses of best-selling kinky erotica, it has done a lot of work toward destigmatizing so-called “alternative” sexualities.

As a subject of psychological research, BDSM has often been relegated to psychopathology: the study of what’s wrong with people. Until 2013, practicing BDSM was considered a mental illness by the American Psychiatric Association. But even though scientists now agree that BDSM is generally healthy, there are still lots of misinformed beliefs and myths about practicing kinksters. Thankfully, research has gone a long way toward dispelling those myths and actually showing us people who do kink have a few things to teach those who don’t.

More: BDSM & Consent: What's the Big Deal?

First & foremost: Consent

A survey by the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom from 2012 shows a distinct picture of consent in a BDSM context. Over 95 percent of respondents believe consent can be revoked at any time; over 93 percent also believe consent cannot be coerced.

In situations in which harm is possible (and actually desirable in some way), ongoing negotiated consent matters. In other words, kinksters practice affirmative consent: the approach to consent that considers “yes means yes” as its only valid form.

More: What the Aziz Ansari Allegations Can Teach Us About Our Limited Idea of Consent

Affirmative consent has made great headway in the vanilla world, but too many people still believe not saying no directly or sending “mixed signals” means consent according to a 2016 survey by Planned Parenthood. In a BDSM context, however, neither of these things fly. Receiving affirmative consent is a way to protect both yourself and your partner, and given how risky BDSM can be, that’s a good thing.

Non-kinky people should be just as concerned as those in the BDSM world about consent. It’s not perfect (nothing ever is), but the BDSM model avoids some common vanilla pitfalls.

More consent = less rape?

The kink context is not free from rape and assault. Sadly, rape culture still affects every community, even those built on affirmative consent. But, according to recent research by Kathryn R. Klement and colleagues, there is an association between participating in an affirmative consent culture and having fewer rape-supporting beliefs.

On three of the six measures in this study, the BDSM sample showed lower acceptance of rape-related beliefs. These measures were benevolent sexism (the belief that women are “special” and should be protected from the rough world of men), rape myth acceptance (a test that measures how much you believe in rape myths such as “If a girl goes to a room alone with a guy at a party, it is her own fault if she is raped”) and victim-blaming.

In other words, respondents to this study who were part of the BDSM community were less sexist, believed less in rape myths and were less likely to blame the victim than a general population sample and a college student sample. Although this particular study was correlational (there is no clear cause and effect), it still demonstrates something about being part of the BDSM community makes you less likely to be sexist and to blame victims for sexual assault.

Openness to experience & sexual exploration

One of the biggest myths that still plague kinky people is how kink is an expression of pathology. In other words, that kinksters are somehow mentally ill. But study after study dedicated to understanding the mental health of kinksters has debunked this myth. In fact, this research has shown that BDSM samples actually do better on many measures compared to general population samples.

For example, a 2013 personality study by Andreas A.J. Wismeijer and Marcel A.L.M. van Assen uncovered that BDSM practitioners “were less neurotic, more extraverted, more open to new experiences, more conscientious, less rejection sensitive, [and] had higher subjective well-being” than the general population control group. Their study showed no sign that kink was a symptom of mental illness.

More: 6 Things Fifty Shades Got Wrong About BDSM

That openness to experience has many benefits: among them a more satisfying sex life. An Australian survey conducted in 2001 and 2002 showed people who identified as BDSM practitioners were more likely to have tried a variety of sexual activities such as watching pornography, using sex toys, having group sex or sex with people other than their main partner and to have tried anal activities. Participating in kink apparently made you happier and less likely to be anxious, especially if you were a man.

Lessons from personality traits are a bit more elusive, but these studies show that there is something beneficial about being open to new experiences. Whether it’s more happiness from being true to oneself or a better understanding of the benefits of a good sex life, kinksters must be doing something right here too.

You can learn & still be vanilla

There’s nothing wrong with not being interested in kink. The positive effects of being kinky — like a better understanding of consent, less sexism and better overall mental health and well-being — don’t have to come with participating in kinky activities. Understanding that yes is the only thing that means yes, being less sexist and being more open to new experiences can benefit everyone, no matter what they like in bed.

Of course, that doesn't mean she doesn't have her limits. While Chmerkovskiy joked about having one million children ("I was going to be like, 'I could [have] a million!" he laughed"), Murgatroyd drew the line: "Three maximum," she insisted.

Judging from how stealthy little 1-year-old Shai is, we can see why she'd want to set a cap. It's already taking a lot of time and energy just to keep up with one!

This isn't the first time Chmerkovskiy has discussed expanding his family. Shortly after Shai was born, he told E! News he was anxious "to have as many kids as Peta decides to pop out." He added at the time that he would love to adopt as well, noting "I just want a big family."

Yeah, we have a feeling after this week's interview he might not get his way on that one. But who knows? Maybe Murgatroyd will change her mind and the couple could one day start their own dancing version of a big family band?

We're So on Board With Khloé Kardashian's Pregnancy Diet Change

Now that we've already welcomed Chicago West and Stormi Webster, there's only one more tiny Kardashian krew member to await.

Khloé Kardashian is enjoying every minute of her pregnancy and is committed to being healthier than ever before. In a recent interview with People, Kardashian's nutritionist, Dr. Philip Goglia, praised her for feeding both body and mind with healthy habits.

"She's just a warrior," Goglia said. "She really is fitness; it's what defines her. She's got a great attitude, and she's super excited."

As for her diet, Goglia told People the only thing that seems to have changed is that Kardashian is now once again eating a bit of dairy.

"She's doing great," he said. "She's added a smidge of dairy, and she makes sure to have good, consistent eating patterns and proper exercise protocols."

How someone can only eat "a smidge of dairy" is beyond me, but hey, everyone has a right to make their own lifestyle choices. Just don't come for my cheese.

In all seriousness, it's great to see Kardashian doing what's best for her. It's a definite change from the days she was admittedly insecure and referred to herself as the "fat, funny one" of the family.

Still, some people think she's taking her pregnancy fitness goals too seriously. Back in December, the reality star shared a photo of her growing belly with the caption, "I'll be six months next week." Immediately, fans responded that she looked "too small" as a result of spending too much time at the gym. Thankfully, she didn't let any of her haters drag her down and explained that she's doing what she and her doctor think is best for both her health and the health of the baby.

"My doctor has instructed me to [work out]," she tweeted. "Why does everyone on social media think they are a physician?? Why would I do anything to [hurt my baby]? If you don't know mind your business."

More: Khloé Kardashian Just Made Her Pregnancy Instagram Official

Of course, Kardashian hasn't always had the best reputation for pregnant body-positivity. During the premiere of her show Kocktails With Khloé, she said that she wouldn't allow sister Kim Kardashian West to be on the program until she lost her baby weight. Though the family played the comment off as a joke, it's not hard to see why people were offended. Growing and birthing a child is no easy feat, and pregnant or not, we would all be better off admiring our bodies for their incredible strength and resilience than scrutinizing every last stretch mark.

7 Easy Self-Care Tips for Moms

$

Too often, parents let their own care fall by the wayside in favor of their kids'. The cliché of the frazzled, over-giving, selfless mom exists because it’s often true. And it makes sense; it’s easy to put nearly everything else before our own mental and physical health. (I know this all too well — I gave myself stress-induced shingles as a work-from-home mom of two preschoolers.) But it’s important for parents of all genders to slow down and take a moment to recharge and regain sanity. But where do you even begin to try and find a little quiet in the chaos?

We’ve rounded up easy tips from self-care experts on how to take care of yourself in manageable ways. Therapist Megan Costello has some great ideas, trainer Amy Kiser Schemper has quick workout pointers (and a valuable reminder), and meditation expert Light Watkins (author of Bliss More: How to Succeed in Meditation Without Really Trying) has great tips for mindfulness.

Float your troubles away

Have you ever heard of float therapy? If not, you’re not alone — but this water-based treatment is a growing trend. “Float therapy is an interesting and unexpected method of self-care,” says therapist Costello, who particularly recommends it for those already practicing mindfulness meditation. “Sensory deprivation can be transformative when combined with techniques like mindfulness and progressive muscle relaxation,” she explains. So what’s involved, and how does it help? First, you'll enter a "float pod" or tank filled with warm saltwater, meant to create a feeling of weightlessness. “When you get in the tank, breathe and notice where you hold body tension,” advises Costello. “Practice releasing the muscle tension using breathing and visualization. Continue those techniques daily to reduce overall body tension.” Sounds great, right? Get on in and float.

Connect with friends

"More and more, I find that parents are struggling with two key areas of self-care,” says Costello. One of those areas is "in time," meaning essentially self-reflection and time spent attending to internal states. The other is connection, aka friendships. Making friends with whom you can share your daily trials and tribulations is so important — for all of us, but especially parents. “Maternal rates of depression and anxiety are lower in mothers who report close friendships and strong community connections,” says Costello. Pretty good motivation, right? And lower rates of depression and anxiety aren’t the only benefits to mom friends. “Women who have close friendships and communities become more empathic, supportive and well-adjusted parents.” Read more on how to find your tribe here.

Mindfulness + apps = self-care

When it comes to getting in a little bit of me-time, technology can be your friend. Apps and tech make it much easier to incorporate daily mindfulness, journaling, meditation or even prayer, says Costello. She recommends setting a reminder or using an app to prompt you through meditations, devotions, etc. “Choose one activity to do mindfully — showering, walking, even folding the laundry can become self-care if you are focused on using that opportunity to practice mindfulness.” And so can "forest bathing."

Meditation made easy

Apps or not, meditation is great self-care. It can even counteract the lack of rest so many new parents experience, says meditation expert Watkins. But if you’re unsure of where to start, have no fear. It doesn’t have to be daunting. “Meditation, when properly understood, takes no more effort than scrolling through social media or watching television,” she says. “So if people can make time for that, they will happily make the time for meditation. The important thing is to understand how to meditate with ease first.” And how does one meditate with ease? “The techniques for newbies are the same as those for experienced meditators,” Watkins explains. “Be E.A.S.Y. (embrace, accept, surrender, yield) with your thoughts — don’t resist or fight them — and you'll find the experiences to be much smoother and more enjoyable than ever before."

Utilize your village

To make time for yourself, take turns with child care, advises Watkins. “Form mom-meditation groups where you’re together with a group of other parents, and take turns meditating while one mom watches the toddlers. This way, you know your child is safe, and that will allow you experience more settled mind experiences.” And you don’t have to use that child care rotation just for meditation: Get your nails done, go to the library — whatever makes you feel like you for a little while. It takes a village, right?

Get exercise when you can

Most of us know exercise is amazing self-care, but it can be tough to find time to “officially” work out. But every little bit counts, says trainer Kiser Schemper. “Finding a quick YouTube video to do at home, doing five minutes of stretching when you wake up or before bed, turning up the music and having a dance party with your kids — it all adds up!” And you can improvise with moves here and there, she notes. “Exercise doesn't have to mean driving to gym, taking a class and getting home two hours later — it can be doing a few squats or lunges while your push your kids in a swing or push-ups on the countertop while you make dinner.” Or yoga with kids, anyone?

More: All-Natural "Baby" Products Moms Can Totally Steal

Remember: Self-care isn't selfish

Kiser Schemper says her biggest tip for moms is just a reminder that “taking care of themselves isn't selfish; it's one of the most selfless things they can do for their kids.” Sometimes that’s hard to realize, but it’s true. “Often, we talk about self-care as ‘Taking time for you’ and ‘Doing something just for you,’" she explains, "which makes us feel like it's a selfish thing, when it's the opposite. Being the healthiest version of ourselves is the best thing we can do for our families.” And at the end of the day, that’s what parents and kids want.

Ryan Reynolds' Shared His Valentine's Day Fail

Most of the time, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are one of the most loving couples in Hollywood (when they're not "feuding" on social media, that is). But they have occasional hiccups, just like all healthy couples. They probably get into little spats now and then over trivial things. And then there was that time Reynolds tried to kill Lively on Valentine's Day.

OK, OK, that's not exactly how it went down. But Reynolds, knowing full well how his skills are in the kitchen (remember the disaster that ensued the time he tried to make Christmas cookies?), decided it would be great for him to honor his wifey on Love Day by making her a baked treat. Men. They just never learn.

Reynolds took to Instagram to share what he made, and from the surface, it looks like he did a pretty good job. It's a gorgeous cake, with pink sprinkles and a heart made out of strawberry slices. Looks delicious, and festive. Well done, Reynolds!

Except that the caption Reynolds posted tells the real story.

"I baked this cake for my wife," he wrote. "The icing is glue, ‘cause I’m not a scientist."

OK, so maybe step away from the oven, Reynolds. No one deserves to eat glue cake on Valentine's Day, or any day, for that matter.

Of course, it's likely that Reynolds was joking about the glue. He's notorious for his deadpan sense of humor on social media. But then again, what if he wasn't? If Ryan Reynolds ever offers you a slice of cake, turn it down just to be safe. Hopefully Lively got the memo before it was too late.

Little Things You Can Do This Week to Celebrate Black History Month

As we all know, it is Black History Month: a time to recognize a large part of our nation's history. Black History Month is a time to remember the hardships of black Americans in our history, but we also need to pay tribute to the successful and history-impacting black Americans who have contributed to shaping our country today.

So, what are your plans for Black History Month? If your answer is "nothing" or "I don't know," then you're missing out on the little treasures this monthlong holiday has to offer. Here are a few little but fun things you and your loved ones can enjoy together.

1. Watch some movies

Fun Things for Black History Month | SheKnows

Here's your chance to grab a snack, kick your feet up and watch a few of Netflix's best films and documentaries, such as Barry (2016), To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), PBS's The Black Panthers (2015), and 13th (2016)four of many amazing flicks this month telling black history stories from different angles and different perspectives.

Here are some other Black History movies that may not be on Netflix but are still totally worth watching:

  • Selma (2014) — Suspense isn't for just for horror movies. This film's detailed and heartbreaking scenery of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement and the fight to freedom in Jim Crow-era Selma, Alabama, will force you to break out the Kleenex.
  • The Butler (2013) — A black Southern butler is invited to work for the White House. He serves up to eight presidents during his employment. From the assassination of John F. Kennedy to the Vietnam war, he realizes he has a front-row seat to the history of the country and the oval office.
  • Dark Girls (2011) — This documentary focuses a little less on racism and sheds more light on "colorism" — prejudices against different skin tones in black communities around the world.
  • Crash (2004) — This movie is definitely for everyone. It tells the stories of several characters from different races, cultures and class systems who do not realize how much race, culture and class difference affects their personal lives until they are put in situations where they have to face them. The film features notable actors like Matt Dillon, Sandra Bullock and Terrence Howard.

2. Indulge in works by black artists

Take a trip to the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Finally! After the establishment of this museum in December 2003 by the Smithsonian, this historically and architecturally beautiful place opened its doors in September 2016. The museum is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is located at 1400 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.

If your transportation is limited to Uber or just your own two feet, seek out the small black history places in your neighborhood.

3. Check out Barnardo's Black History Month calendar

No, this is not your everyday black history lesson. This calendar uses undocumented photos to acknowledge black people from many countries, most of them being uncovered documents leading you to stories of black migration from the Caribbean to the United Kingdom. Unlike similar calendars, Barnardo's sheds light on long-lost people who were never talked about in the history books.

Check it out for yourself here.

4. Balance your body & mind with Afro Flow Yoga

Yes, you read that correctly: Afro Flow Yoga. We have heard of drunken yoga, glow yoga and even goat yoga. But this type is strictly dedicated to the intertwining dance forms of the African diaspora and the art of yoga.

A part of the Ailey Extension public dance and fitness branch of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, these classes are held in New York, Connecticut and Boston. The goal of the yoga instructors is to bring diversity to the art form. If you have never been to a yoga class that incorporates African dance moves in between poses, much less a regular yoga class, attending this one will be an absolute treat.

5. Listen to some podcasts

Got some extra time while you're sitting on the train or doing laundry? Try listening to some podcasts that celebrate black culture. A few of my favorites are Black Girl Boss, Talk It Out and On My Grown: The Podcast.

Happy Black History Month, everyone!

My Baby Doesn't Like You, & That's OK

We were in line at Target recently, and a woman behind us started gawking at my baby; he was in his stroller facing her and frankly minding his own business. After several uncomfortable seconds of her staring at him (not with smiles or kind words or any engagement, but just plain old weird glaring), my baby let out a yell and glared right back at her with indignation. Some parents would have been embarrassed. I was proud...

When I met up with a friend who my baby had only met once, and she tried to hold him, he cried. And I don’t blame him; she’s a stranger. Even family members who my baby doesn’t know well sometimes scare or upset him when they get in his face. They get offended; I don’t...

More: Here's Why Forcing Little Girls to Hug Is Not OK

My baby often enough lets out a pterodactyl screech in the face of people he doesn't know — or simply doesn't like — when they try to engage with him.

"You have to socialize him better," I've heard my friends, neighbors and family members say.

No, actually, I don't.

My son is all smiles when he meets people he knows and likes. He will cruise around all afternoon in the arms of his uncle, whom he adores. He’ll settle in for a nap in the lap of his grandmother, who he knows will sing to him and be gentle and caring. And he’ll sit and watch his baby friend play for endless hours because he really enjoys her. My baby, just like adults, simply prefers certain humans to others. And that's perfectly fine; in fact, I think it's really important.

So many parents raise their kids to be "nice" — even to strangers. If the “nice lady” on the street says hi to the little kid, and the kid doesn’t say hi back, parents will often say something like, “Don’t be rude. Say hi to the nice lady.”

I’ve seen people laugh and commend babies who wave to strangers or who even go up to strangers and hug them or tug on their clothes. I am horrified by this behavior. Would you want your 10-year-old child to touch and embrace a person neither of you knows? What about your teenager? If your answer is no, then why would you want your baby to?

More: Did Feminism Destroy Common Courtesy Toward Pregnant Women?

Teaching and reinforcing risky behavior when kids are young and impressionable can have a lasting impact on their socialization later. Of course I don’t want my baby to become a pariah, but I do want him to be discerning. If he has a bad feeling about someone who is trying to touch him, I don’t want to force him to touch that person — nor do I want to invalidate his feelings or make excuses for them. Yes, he's just a baby, but his feelings are valid. I respect them.

Plus, bodily autonomy is important, and I want to raise the kind of child and then adult who will respect his own boundaries and those of others. I don’t want to confuse him into thinking that he has to touch people when he doesn't want to — just because I forced him to hug a kid he didn't like or allowed him to get tickled by an uncle when he was uncomfortable. And on the flip side, I don't want him to think he can go ahead and touch others — whether they are strangers or not — who may be made uncomfortable by that touch.

More: To My Friends Who Don't Like Babies: I Was Once You

There will be a time and a place, as my son gets older, when I can start talking to him about how to politely decline physical or any unwanted contact. But right now, as a baby, the only tools he has at his disposal are crying and smiling. He’s too young to politely tell the lady who's making him feel uncomfortable in the store to stop staring.

So for now, the screech that warns off strangers and offends people who think my son should like them — but who don’t really know him — is fine by me. It doesn’t mean my baby is rude or antisocial. It just means he's just learning how to navigate the world safely and with a strong sense of what or whom he likes, as well as what or whom he doesn’t, and he's not afraid to respond accordingly. We should all be as tuned-in to our inner needs — and as unafraid to express them.

Source Says Justin Theroux Never Really Wanted Marriage

Should we all have seen Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux's heartbreaking split coming? According to at least one source, Theroux never wanted to be married at all, and the signs were all there.

More: Who Was (& Was Not) Invited to Ellen DeGeneres' 60th Birthday Bash

Before dating Aniston, Theroux was in a 14-year relationship with costume designer Heidi Bivens, and marriage never meant much to him, an insider told Us Weekly. He didn't particularly want to get married to Aniston, either, but she allegedly pushed for it.

"Constant scrutiny of Jen’s personal life, including whether she would ever find her happily ever after, played a huge role in her marriage to Justin," the source explained. "It was obvious Jen needed more than an engagement or to be life partners with Justin. He didn’t want to lose her, so they got married."

The insider added that Theroux was skeptical from the get-go that marriage was the right choice.

"He had reservations at the time because they still hadn’t figured out where they were going to live as a couple. Justin was absolutely head over heels in love with Jen — and probably always will be — but marriage was never important to him," the source said. "Marriage was always just a piece of paper to Justin, and he didn’t need it."

Another source said there were definitely signs of trouble leading up to the split. During the last few months of their relationship, one insider claimed, Theroux "felt more comfortable [in the guest house] than in the main house with Jen" when he visited her in California. First he would spend his days hanging out there, but by the end, he was also sleeping in the guest house.

Despite announcing their split in a joint statement to help stop media speculation, though, neither party wants to talk about it. In the aftermath of the announcement, Theroux canceled his planned appearance on tonight's episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, seemingly to avoid talking about his breakup.

Chrissy Teigen Has Some Unusual Baby Name Choices for Her Son

Chrissy Teigen confessed to Ellen DeGeneres on Monday that she and John Legend have no clue what to name their baby boy, due in June.

"Boy names are really tough!" Teigen — Lip Sync Battle host and cookbook author — said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I don't even think he'll have a middle name because we can't even think of a first name."

“What about Lunar for him?” quipped DeGeneres. “Lunar, I like it!," Teigen concurred.

“What about Urban? Urban Legend,” offered DeGeneres to a most appreciative crowd. Teigen cracked up, then said slyly, "I’ve been toying with Dick Legend a lot … Richard Legend," leaving Ellen shaking her head.

The struggle is real. Apparently, Legend and Teigen don't see eye to eye on boy names: “Everyone’s like, ‘Why don’t you do the J.J. thing, John Jr.?’" Teigen said. "But John and his ego, he was like, ‘I don’t want him to feel like he has to live up to that.’”

“And I was like, ‘Wow, you are a jerk,’” a laughing Teigen told DeGeneres. ”‘Sorry, heaven forbid he do what you do. So incredible.’“ Teigen mock-gushed.

Now, Teigen is always really freaking funny, but we are seriously digging her super-hilarious pregnancy brain. She is nonstop comedy mode these days on social media as she counts down to her (still nameless) baby boy.

For example, she tweeted this on Feb. 12: "I’m scared Luna is gonna hate her baby brother because I have a really hard time welcoming new bravo cast members." Please, God, let Chrissy Teigen start writing TV scripts.

On Feb. 7, Teigen turned the tables on the paparazzi, who dared to follow her into the grocery store, by posting on Instagram a hilariously unflattering — and super-real — pap shot of herself and Luna and a haphazard shopping cart.

She captioned it, "I used to assume people who got photographed in grocery stores weren’t really buying stuff they like and were getting paid for something but turns out the paps actually come inside the grocery store and capture your most intimate grocery cart items this is a travesty #TOOINTIMATE #KEEPCARTSPRIVATE #SACREDSPACE." Yup, Teigen is the queen of rolling with it (in this case, literally) and we love it.

Then, on Feb. 11, she slayed Instagram with a hilarious pic of her preparing lunch topless with strategically placed cartoon salads.

The caption? "plz don’t shame me I am a strong proud salad making woman just being natural and trying to live my life."

We actually do hope Teigen goes back and reads the comments of the salad-making Insta post because one of them may have included a perfect baby name for her little boy. Her fan wrote, "I saw you on Ellen and how you were talking about baby names and how much you love space and all and I was thinking Sol would be so sweet for a boy then you have the sun and the moon with baby girl Luna

Woman Reportedly Kicked Off Flight Because of Period Pain

Having your period during a long-haul flight is definitely not ideal, but it's also not grounds for kicking someone off a plane. Unfortunately for Beth Evans — a 24-year-old British woman traveling from Birmingham, U.K. to Dubai — simply mentioning her menstrual cramps was reportedly enough for the flight crew to ask her and her boyfriend to leave the aircraft.

According to The Sun, a flight attendant overheard Evans telling her boyfriend — 26-year-old Joshua Moran — that she was experiencing stomach pains resulting from her period and expressed concern. Evans said her discomfort was a "one out of ten" and that she would have no problem on the seven-hour flight. However, because there was not a doctor available on the plane to assess Evans' condition, the Emirates crew decided that she should not fly.

More: What Aly Raisman Wants You to Know About Periods & Speaking Out Against Abuse

“To be kicked off for period pains — it was madness,” Moran told The Sun. “Beth was in tears and getting upset when the hostess was asking her questions. It’s embarrassing to have to explain about period pains when it’s being overheard.”

Moran also said that the airline did not have a doctor exam Evans, but instead, "just contacted a medical team in the U.S., and they said Beth couldn’t fly.”

Reportedly, the couple — which had each spent £400 (approximately $561) on the flight — had to then spend another £250 (approximately $350) to rebook their travel.

A spokesperson for Emirates told The Sun that the airline was acting in Evans’s best interest. “The passenger alerted crew that she was suffering from discomfort and pain, and mentioned she was feeling unwell. The captain made the decision to request medical support and offload Ms. Evans so she could access medical assistance. We would not have wanted to endanger Ms. Evans by delaying medical help had she worsened during the flight."

Can this really happen?

The World Health Organization has guidelines for airlines to follow regarding how to handle international travel for passengers to who are ill. According to WHO, airlines have the right to refuse to carry passengers with conditions that may worsen or have serious consequences during the flight.

Additionally, the airlines may require medical clearance "from their medical department/adviser if there is an indication that a passenger could be suffering from any disease or physical or mental condition that:

  • may be considered a potential hazard to the safety of the aircraft;
  • adversely affects the welfare and comfort of the other passengers and/or crew members;
  • requires medical attention and/or special equipment during the flight;
  • may be aggravated by the flight."

However, it remains unclear which category period pain would fall under.

More2017 Was a Big Year for Periods on TV

"If cabin crew suspect before departure that a passenger may be ill, the aircraft’s captain will be informed and a decision taken as to whether the passenger is fit to travel, needs medical attention or presents a danger to other passengers and crew or to the safety of the aircraft," the WHO website indicates.

Periods have long been used as a means to disqualify menstruators from everything from athletic participation to holding positions of power. Menstruation was even touted at one time as a reason female pilots like Amelia Earhart should not be permitted to fly. Of course, that's completely baseless, and Evans wasn't even piloting the plane — she was just trying to travel.

So, yes, this example seems ridiculous — and it absolutely is — but should serve as a reminder that periods shouldn't be used as a means of holding people back or ruling out participation in any other aspects of society.

Emirates Airlines has not yet responded to a request for comment from SheKnows.
