Gwyneth Paltrow Admits to Messing Up Her Relationship With Brad Pitt

Two decades after they dated, Gwyneth Paltrow is speaking out with some new information about her ill-fated relationship with Brad Pitt. Spoiler alert: She seems to be taking responsibility for their breakup. Say what?

More: Gwyneth Paltrow's New Meal Service Actually Sounds Kinda Good

Paltrow appeared on Girlboss Radio, and told host Sophia Amoruso that she has her fair share of regrets about her past loves.

When Amoruso asked if Paltrow had ever "fucked up a relationship and had to fix it," she replied, "Oh my God. I've fucked up so many relationships, so many."

Paltrow continued, "I'm actually a pretty good friend and a good sister and a daughter and a mother, but I am at my potentially most vulnerable and fucked up in the romantic slice of the pie. So it's taken me a lot of work to get to the place where I have a good romantic relationship."

Amoruso cut in, saying, "So Brad Pitt, if you're listening..."

And Paltrow finished, "I fucked that up, Brad."

For those who don't remember, because it was literally 20 years ago, Pitt and Paltrow dated from 1995 to 1997 after meeting on the set of their movie Se7en and even got engaged. They were a huge power couple and wildly popular at the time. Pitt proposed in 1996 when she visited him in Argentina, where he was filming Seven Years in Tibet. Then Paltrow called off the engagement several months later.

In 2015, Paltrow told Howard Stern a little bit about the breakup, but didn't take responsibility for it like she did now. "I think I was a kid and I wasn't ready. He was too good for me," she said. "I honestly do think I was too young and didn't know what I was doing."

Everything worked out for the best, because both Pitt and Paltrow would go on to have long marriages with other stars, though both of those have since ended.

There’s a lot of division in our nation, but it’s heartwarming to see how many people come together in times of crisis.

This includes a local southern Texas Pizza Hut, which is delivering pizza to the hungry via kayaks!

Shayda Habib is the manager of a Pizza Hut location in Oak Lake who spearheaded the effort. “When I heard there were families in need, I knew we needed to act fast,” she told Houston news outlet KPRC. “I called my husband and asked him to gather up kayaks and meet me at the restaurant.”

They put the food in delivery pouches, jumped into a kayak, and delivered the food to people who were stranded and running out of food in their homes. With so much sadness and loss all around you, a delicious, hot and fresh pizza to soothe that growling stomach goes a long way toward boosting morale.

Navigating Dating With an STI

0
0

When you’re gearing up for a first date, what’s on your mind? For those carrying the herpes virus (HSV 1 or 2), it may be quite a lot. In addition to the universal jitters about what to wear and concerns over whether or not that drink will end up as a stain, there’s also a polarizing, highly-stigmatized sexually transmitted infection talk that must take place –– at least eventually.

“I believe that STI status disclosure it part of the consent process,” says Yana Tallon-Hicks, sex educator and relationships therapist. She adds that in order to consent to a sexual interaction, both people must be fully informed about what they are consenting to before they agree to do that particular thing.

More: Untreatable "Super-Gonorrhoea" Spreading Through Oral Sex

"Knowing if you are at risk of contracting an STI –– and especially an incurable STI –– is incredibly important to that process,” Tallon-Hicks explains.

Talking about herpes shouldn’t be nearly as much of a taboo as it is considering that 50 to 80 percent of adults in the U.S. have oral herpes (aka cold sores), which can be transmitted via oral sex. Herpes can be contagious with or without symptoms, so anyone who has ever experienced cold sores needs to inform their partners of their herpes status before engaging in kissing or oral sex. Also, about 1 in 6 have genital herpes, which of course can also be transmitted.

All in all, by the age of 50, 90 percent of adults have had a partner with HSV.

Despite the common rate of infection and exposure and generally mild symptoms, herpes remains culturally stigmatized and the concept of disclosure can feel burdensome when entering a new relationship. Ethically, there’s no way around disclosure (which also means that there’s no way around regular testing), but that doesn’t mean the same thing for everyone; it may not be a first-date conversation at all.

“There are two specific schools of thought when it comes to disclosing to a new partner. A or B,” says Jenelle Marie Pierce, founder and executive director of The STD Project and spokesperson for PositiveSingles. The first is telling someone as soon as you meet them or putting it on your dating profile before someone even swipes right, she explains.

According to Pierce, the other school of thought is that it’s not a necessity to say it right up front.

"Before you put them at risk, if you anticipate that you’re going to be engaging in sexual activities, then at that point, it’s your responsibility to let them know, but that might be a few dates in. That might be a few months in. It just depends on how fast your relationship is progressing and how fast you move into that territory. It’s up to the individual to decide when it’s right,” she says.

MoreSo There May Be a Link Between Bikini Waxing & STIs

So how does someone decide which route is the best method for them? Weighing the various risks and benefits of each might play a role in determining the timing of disclosure.

Pierce explains that the idea behind immediate disclosure is that at that point, the individual won’t feel emotionally invested or have started to get attached to the person. "You won’t be into them because you don’t know who it is or you’re just meeting them for the first time, so there’s no emotional investment, and it’s a lot easier to take a rejection as a result," she explains. "So if somebody chooses to say, 'Thanks but no thanks,' or 'This isn’t for me right now. I’m not willing to take on that risk right now,' which is totally their prerogative, then it doesn’t have the potential to be as painful and doesn’t sting as much if it’s someone you don’t know or care about much yet anyway.”

The beautiful thing about social media dating, according to Tallon-Hicks, is that you can weed out the people who can't or won't accept you for who you are "right off the bat before they even like, swipe or DM you." She says that posting that you have herpes on your dating profile means that anyone who contacts you already knows your STI status and is at least willing to take the risk of having a conversation with you about how that may impact your date or hook-up with them.

"Though it's certainly vulnerable to post something like that, especially given that you never know who might stumble upon your profile, it can be a useful filter,“ she adds.

Considering the reduced risk of more painful rejection down the line, why might some people want to wait a bit longer? That's when vulnerability comes into play.

The idea behind waiting to disclose, Pierce explains, “is that oftentimes, it feels like a very sensitive and personal issue to disclose to someone, and a lot of people are a little reticent about telling a stranger because they don’t want that word to get spread around."

If the person with herpes hasn't developed a relationship with the person they're dating, they might want to wait a little while in order to determine whether or not they can trust them with that sensitive information, she adds — before putting them at risk, of course.

Most people are OK with this approach, ethically, because in most circumstances, people don't list every potentially negative thing about themselves on the first date, which Pierce describes as being "like emotional- and personal-vomiting all over your date."

MoreReminder: Vagina Is Not a Dirty Word

"You don’t say, ’I have halitosis, a mother who’s an alcoholic, my brother’s in prison and I have really awful credit because I didn’t pay for my credit cards and $100,000 in student debt and a really dirty apartment.’ Nobody says these things that sometimes are deal-breakers," she says.

Rather, these topics tend to come up as you get to know the other person.

"Until you get to know somebody and establish a trust and interest in them, then it’s not necessary to tell," Pierce explains. "Of course, if you’re going to put somebody at risk and do anything sexually with them, then you need to, ethically, tell them.”

In the end, the only “right time” to tell someone about a positive herpes status is before they are at risk. Status disclosure before exposure is necessary, but the timing is a personal decision.

Keanu Reeves & Winona Ryder Are Reuniting for the Perfect Rom-Com

Winona Ryder is really having a comeback right now. After a super-successful, '80s-tastic first season of Stranger Things, she's switching it up and going full '90s on us by reuniting with an old co-star who happens to be an icon in his own right. According to DeadlineRyder will team up with her old buddy Keanu Reeves this winter to star in the very '90s-esque rom-com, Destination Wedding.

The report goes on to say they'll play "two miserable and unpleasant wedding guests" who are the outcasts of the group at the — you guessed it — destination wedding they attend until they start to fall for each other, because that's how these things work in a rom-com, people. Obviously, things aren't that simple, because both characters are jaded and conflicted and they take their sweet time to decide they should actually act on their feelings. But of course, they do, because again, that's how rom-coms work, and especially rom-coms with stars like Ryder and Reeves at the top of the bill.

More: Keanu Reeves Really Wants to Be a Superhero

Ryder and Reeves have a long history together. They previously starred together in Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula, Richard Linklater's A Scanner Darkly and Rebecca Miller's The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. Now that the news is out, producer Robert Jones revealed a little bit more about the film so we can get even more stoked than we already were.

"When comedy is seated in character and truth it's both funny and moving, and on that basis [this] screenplay is one of the best I've read in a long time," Jones told Variety in a statement. "Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves are wonderfully skillful actors, and their chemistry on-screen truly brings these irascible characters to life."

If anyone thought rom-coms were played out, time to eat your words. The '90s are back, and that means the best of rom-coms is returning in all its glory.

What to Do When a Teacher Hates Your Kid

0
0

When my son came home from elementary school and told me his teacher "hated" him, I was naturally concerned — but also skeptical. I assumed they had just gotten off on the wrong foot and urged him to give his teacher another chance. Unfortunately, with each school day, my son’s feelings of frustration intensified. It turned out to be a long, difficult year, but ultimately, both my son and I learned a lot. Not every student and teacher will click, but there are ways to improve the situation for your child.

More: 7 Things Teachers Want You to Know Before You Send Your Kids Back to School

Listen to both sides before reacting

Eileen Kennedy-Moore, child psychologist and author of several books, including Growing Friendships: A Kids' Guide to Making and Keeping Friends, says, "When a kid complains, 'My teacher hates me!' it could mean anything. While it's possible that the teacher is truly harsh and hateful, other explanations are more likely. Maybe the teacher's communication style is louder or more energetic than what your child is used to. Or perhaps your child feels embarrassed about getting scolded for misbehavior or feels overwhelmed by schoolwork."

I asked my son to give me specific examples of why he felt his teacher disliked him. “It's important not to contradict or argue with your child's statement," says Kennedy-Moore. "Do acknowledge your child's reaction without leaping to blame the teacher. You could say, ‘Sounds like you had a rough day’ or ‘This year's teacher seems very different from last year's.'"

Once I understood my son’s perception of what was going on in the classroom, I reached out to a few parents to see if their children were expressing the same concerns as my son. It turned out some of them were, which confirmed that the teacher wasn’t singling my son out. This provided him with some comfort; he wasn't alone.

Meet with the teacher

I wanted my son to advocate for himself, so I contacted the teacher and set up a meeting between the three of us. "Including your child in the conversation can be empowering for kids," advises Kennedy-Moore. "It's a chance for your child to feel heard and to be part of working things out. Solutions involving your child are more likely to be effective."

Prior to the meeting, I coached my son on how to speak respectfully to the teacher while addressing his concerns. He handled himself beautifully, using “I” statements and remaining polite throughout the conversation. "It is important to remind your child that the teacher is the boss of the classroom," says Kennedy-Moore. "Keep in mind that this type of conversation can feel threatening to teachers. Work hard to keep the tone constructive, non-blaming and focused on moving forward."

Make a game plan

Unfortunately, the teacher was not receptive at our meeting, and her response gave me a better understanding of what my son was dealing with on a daily basis. My husband and I contemplated taking our concerns to the principal. “If your child is in physical danger you need to step in for safety," says Kennedy-Moore. "If conversations with the teacher haven't worked, it may make sense to push the issue higher, but tread carefully. If the principal can't or won't do anything about the situation, the teacher could become even less inclined to try to work things out with your child."

We chose not to involve the principal, and instead came up with a game plan to get my son through the rest of the school year. We stressed to him he had to continue to do his best work — his teacher not liking him wasn't an excuse to give up or slacking off. Instead, he needed to complete his assignments, be respectful of the teacher and follow the school rules.

Even though we couldn’t fix the problem for him, my husband and I let our son know we were there to support him. He could come to us at any time, and we would always listen to his concerns. We also filled his after-school schedule with self-esteem-boosting activities he enjoyed, such as playing sports, playdates with friends and fun family events.

Keep a record

Throughout the school year, I kept a notebook of incidents, a way of documenting specific examples of the teacher’s behavior. It also gave my son an opportunity to vent his feelings. When the school year was over, I set up a meeting with the principal and provided concrete examples to back up my concerns about this teacher. Both my son and I felt better knowing that we tried to make the situation better for students that were assigned to her in the future. However, the teacher retired the following year.

Look for the silver lining

While I do wish my son had never gone through this experience, both he and I learned a lot of valuable lessons. I'm happy he was able to confide in me and that we worked together as a team to develop coping skills. Dealing with this adverse experience actually helped him to gain confidence as a student and to increase his appreciation of the teachers he has had since — who have liked him!

It's been forever since Grammy-winning artist Sam Smith dropped new music — or three years, same diff — but the wait is very nearly over, friends. In a heartfelt letter shared via Instagram, Smith revealed it won't be long before he releases his new album.

The 25-year-old singer made quite the splash when he burst onto the scene in 2014 with his debut album In the Lonely Hour. Let's be real: we all still belt out every track, all the while wondering what Smith has been up to lately.

Well, now we know.

Sam Smith New Music

"To my beautiful fans, first of all, I want to say thank you. Thank you for being so patient and for letting me have the past year to really escape into my mind & write music so freely," he began. "I feel so rejuvenated and have so many stories I can't wait to tell you."

"I have missed you all desperately, and a day hasn't gone by when I haven't been looking at all your comments & dreaming of singing with you all again... the wait is so nearly over. Something is coming very very very very soon," he teased.

And if you thought Smith's debut album packed an emotional punch, you better gird your feelings — it sounds like this one is going to be every more stirring.

"I am scared & excited at the same time. I've poured my soul and heart into this record," he said, a sentiment he underscored last year when he told the Associated Press he was "putting my heart even more out on the fucking line."

BIP's Derek Peth reportedly liked it so much he put a ring on it

This season of Bachelor in Paradise has been marred by scandal, contestants leaving, scallop fingers and more. So much has transpired thus far, in fact, that fans have taken to social media to wonder aloud whether anyone will find more than a beachfront fling — which is why you might say Derek Peth and Taylor Nolan found love in a hopeless place, to paraphrase Rihanna.

According to Us Weekly, Peth put a ring on it during the taping of Bachelor in Paradise's after-show on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

More: Bachelor in Paradise Fans Have Officially Turned on Dean

"Derek and Taylor got engaged last night. No one knew Derek was going to propose. He gave her a Neil Lane ring," a source confirmed to Us.

If you've been watching the last few weeks, you know that Peth and Nolan are essentially the only couple making progress on the reality dating competition. However, they hit a major snag on the Tuesday, Aug. 29 episode when Peth flippantly told Nolan, "Fuck you," when she told him she had some reservations over how he deals with conflict.

More: 10 People Who Swear the Bachelor in Paradise Scandal Was Scripted

This isn't new territory for Nolan, naturally. The mental health counselor famously clashed with Corinne Olympios on Nick Viall's season of The Bachelor, telling Olympios she lacked "emotional intelligence" — which is what she seemed to want to say to Peth on Tuesday too.

Happily, though, Peth and Nolan had reconciled by the episode's end.

As the first and clearly most solid pairing on Bachelor in Paradise this season, it's unclear how the couple's engagement could impact the finale. Do they both leave Paradise prior to that point? Or does Derek simply not propose then?

But, most importantly, do we get televised Derek and Taylor nuptials? It worked for newlyweds (and expectant parents) Carly Waddell and Evan Bass, after all.

4 Ways to Make Your Office More Inclusive

0
0

It’s 2017, and we’re leaving the patriarchy behind (slowly but surely). While larger movements like January’s Women’s March underscored how women are organizing to take their stand on umbrella issues known, there’s still much work to be done on day-to-day realities.

One space specifically where work could be done is actually at work. Whether you’re a junior employee or the CEO of your own company, there are various ways to create an inclusive environment, champion a person’s reproductive health needs and empower others to speak up on issues that are important to them.

Offer free menstrual products, no questions asked

Lots of businesses stock their bathrooms with menstrual products, but often at the cost of a quarter or two. Unfortunately, that quarter multiplies quickly throughout the span of a menstrual cycle. The small cost per menstrual product at work is the tip of the iceberg on a larger issue — a menstruating individual could spend an estimated $18,000 on menstrual products throughout their lifetime.

More: Step Up Your Period Activism by Advocating for Menstrual Education

In fact, the high cost of products and the luxury tax associated with them has led to legislation like the Menstrual Equity for All Act and the Common Cents Tax Reform Act, which support increasing access to menstrual products for everyone. Particularly, the legislation focuses on making these products accessible to more vulnerable communities — like people living in shelters.

Following suit on a company-wide level and offering products for free could help create a more livable environment for those who work for you.

“I think the free menstrual products is a really nice touch if you ever have external people at your workplace as well, [including] customers, clients, applicants, etc.,” explains Laura Gluhanich, head of community at Everwise.

Advocate for gender-neutral bathrooms

In March 2016, the governor of North Carolina, Pat McCrory, signed the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act, which sparked mainstream news coverage of what we know today as the "transgender bathroom debate." In October 2016, the Supreme Court agreed to hear a case from Gavin Grimm, a 17-year old transgender male student from Virginia who was banned from using the boys' restroom at school. The conversation around the topic has only grown more prominent since then.

According to ATTN, major corporations like Starbucks, Barnes & Noble and Target are implementing gender-neutral bathrooms in their storefronts.

To go the extra mile, challenge your company to make the bathroom experience an inclusive one and stick to words that are gender-neutral. For instance, steer away from speaking in gender binaries like “ladies and gentlemen,” “boys and girls,” “he or she,” etc. Adopt gender-neutral vocabulary — “they, them, theirs” — to refer to people, especially if you don’t know their gender identity and pronoun preference. There are more than two genders — and those who you work with who don’t identify with a binary gender will notice how your language changes.

Allow for remote work

Offering the option for remote work could be a cost-effective alternative for any company. When looking at reasons why people may miss work regularly, a top reason that may come to mind is the presence of health issues.

According to the Journal of Managed Care and Specialty Pharmacy, people with endometriosis are more likely to miss work due to their symptoms.

Many companies all over the world — in the United KingdomItalyIndia and more — are beginning to offer menstrual leave or unpaid or paid monthly time off an employee can take due to menstruation. While period symptoms vary from person-to-person, this policy can greatly benefit those with serious medical conditions like endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome.

Be flexible with schedules & time off

Paid time off is a reproductive justice issue. In an interview with ForbesWerk founders Anna Auerbach and Annie Dean insist “flexibility is the future of feminism” because mothers need flexibility to succeed professionally.

Money explains major technology corporations, including Amazon, Apple and Facebook, are implementing generous family leave policies. For instance, Adobe offers 26 weeks of paid paternity leave. Fast Company also reports Netflix, Evernote and LinkedIn offer unlimited “take what you need” vacation time for employees.

Unfortunately, workforce legislation often determines what companies' leave programs will look like. According to the Independent, the United States still has one of the worst maternity leave policies in the world, leaving new American mothers extremely vulnerable to financial hardships as they raise children.

More: Bullying: It's not just a playground problem — it's happening at work

“When a woman needs — or chooses — to take three to six months by cobbling together benefits, disability or unpaid time, and partners only have or choose to take two weeks, it’s a pretty brutal set-up,” adds Tessa Petrich, a leadership and life coach.

Things You Didn't Know About Lily Tomlin & Jane Wagner's 45-Year Romance

0
0

Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner are probably the most low-key couple in the biz, but their love story is truly one for the ages. What many thought was merely a professional partnership or at most BFFs was really a romance that blossomed quickly and quietly and has bloomed into a 42-year relationship — and, in the last several years, a marriage. Here are some things you probably didn't know about this wildly funny couple.

An after-school special brought them together

Wagner caught Tomlin's funny bone before she caught her eye. After seeing the after-school special Wagner wrote, she invited her to collaborate on Tomlin's comedy album And That's the Truth in March 1971. They've been inseparable ever since.

Time magazine tried to bribe them to come out in the '70s

While their relationship was an open secret they never made an effort to hide, it also wasn't really public knowledge for many years. Tomlin says back in 1975, Time magazine tried to bribe her into making a huge public coming-out statement.

"In '75 I was making the Modern Scream album and Jane and I were in the studio," she explained to Metro Weekly in 2006. "My publicist called me and said, 'Time will give you the cover if you'll come out.' I was more offended than anything that they thought we'd make a deal. But that was '75 — it would have been a hard thing to do at that time."

They've written some incredible material together

The whole collaborator thing wasn't a cover — the pair have written celebrated works together, including Tomlin's Tony Award-winning show The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, The Incredible Shrinking Woman, and Moment By Moment, as well as Grammy-nominated albums Modern Scream and On Stage.

The couple's work is so closely tied together that they were honored with a joint star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars in 2012. "I knew we were going to get something great because these days, you go any place and you don't know if you're going to get a vaginal probe," Wagner said during their acceptance speech. "We felt safe here. I rarely get included in these honors."

They finally got hitched — 42 years later

In 2013, on New Year's Eve just as it turned 2014, Tomlin and Wagner finally made it official and legally married after 42 years together. "It was sweet," Tomlin told People. "We didn't have any rings, so I went into our jewelry and was digging out rings. I said, 'We have to have some kind of rings!'"

Tomlin can currently be seen in the absolutely hilarious show Grace and Frankie, co-starring Jane Fonda.

Jennifer Lopez Is Resurrecting Jenny From the Block for a New Music Video

Are you ready for the return of Jenny from the block? Because it's fast approaching, and it could be the single greatest thing to happen in music this fall. Jennifer Lopez posted a photo teaser for her new music video for "Amor, Amor, Amor" earlier this week & she's giving us straight up Jenny vibes. I. Am. Here. For. It.

More: 16 Celebs Who Overcame Childhood Poverty

First off, can you believe — no, seriously — that Lopez is 48 years old? I'm still over here with my jaw on the floor because she looks absolutely stunning. Add to that the fact that she's bringing us some late '90s or early '00s fashion realness with this big fur coat, hoop earrings, massive ponytail and what looks like pleather cargo shorts and it's probably the best photo that's been posted all week.

JLo Amor Music Video Tease

According to Entertainment Tonight, Lopez has been filming what will be the music video for "Amor, Amor, Amor" recently and it looks like she's filming it in New York City (a very Jenny from the block thing to do). The song is the lead single off her upcoming Spanish album, which ET reports her ex-husband, Marc Anthony, is producing. Very interesting indeed.

Lopez was spotted on the street by photographers during filming and one caught a glimpse of her outfit in all its throwback glory.

Lopez has been poised for a return to music for quite some time. It's been a hot minute since "Ain't Your Mama," one of her most recent hits, was on the airwaves; it's time for her to come back to us! And even though Lopez has been singing in Spanish for years, something tells me that a renewed public fervor for songs sung in Spanish (see: "Despacito" mania) will help give Lopez the boost she needs.

Updated Sept. 1, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. EST: Several additional resources and ways to support those on the coast of Texas have been added. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with updates and information.

Since Hurricane Harvey first made landfall on the coast of Texas last Friday, it has left a path of destruction, including at least 30 deaths and thousands of people now homeless. While it's since been downgraded to a tropical storm, then to a depression, several days later, the rain still hadn't stopped. Do you know what else doesn't stop during hurricanes and tropical storms? Periods.

Women are disproportionately affected by natural disasters, and dealing with periods is no exception. When people are thinking of ways to help out, it's easy to remember food, water and clothing, but basic menstrual hygiene products often go overlooked. And this isn't confined to natural disasters either — homeless shelters are looking for donations of period products regardless of the weather.

At a loss on how to help people with periods on the coast of Texas? Here are a few ways you can help.

Aquí Estamos RGV & Neta Fundraising Campaign

Two organizations based in Texas have teamed up to collect monetary donations that will be used to purchase and send menstrual hygiene products to people displaced and affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston and elsewhere on the Gulf Coast. All donations will be given to the Homeless Period Project – Rio Grande Valley to purchase and send the products to the affected communities.

Aquí Estamos RGV is youth-led LGBTQ people of color organization, and Neta is a community-led multimedia platform based in the Rio Grande Valley.

Update from #HappyPeriod Founder, Chelsea Von Chaz: "Our online fundraiser still stands as an option for making a monetary donation. Now, our call-to-action is for companies/brand to partner with us, willing to extend shipping services along with donating product. We're accepting pads, tampons, wipes, panty liners, soap and underwear... period panties and all!"

All purchases/donations made via #HappyPeriod's Amazon Wish List will be shipped to their ambassador presently located in Houston. They are also seeking more addresses/locations currently accepting shipments.

The Homeless Period Project Houston strives to donate feminine hygiene products to disadvantaged women all around Houston. With all the devastation Harvey has caused, the organization is focusing on getting menstrual supplies to those who need them. You will find links to an Amazon Wish List and fundraiser on their social media. You can follow HPPH on Instagram and Facebook for updates or donate via their Amazon Wish List.

Kimberly-Clark encourages others to join in supporting relief efforts by donating to the National Diaper Bank Network to mobilize the delivery of basic need items.

BIP’s Corinne Olympios & DeMario Jackson Reunite With Some Surprising PDA

0

You know that very serious Bachelor in Paradise controversy that shut production down and shook Bachelor Nation this summer? The one that tarnished DeMario Jackson's reputation, led Corinne Olympios to be viciously slut-shamed and drove a very big, possibly unfixable rift between Olympios and Jackson? Well, that’s all over. Chris Harrison said it best – just when you think you’ve got Paradise figured out, you never know how things can change. And change they have.

According to US Magazine, the night after Olympios' BIP tell-all aired on ABC Aug. 29, Olympios and Jackson coincidentally "ran into each other" at an LA nightclub and by golly, it was a happy affair. Even though the two told Harrison they hadn't spoken since being rushed out of Paradise and interrogated about the alleged sexual misconduct, Olympios & Jackson looked like chummy old friends.

Photos show Olympios in Jackson's arms, her legs wrapped tightly around his waste – she even planted a kiss on his cheek. So it's safe to say any weird, uncomfortable or bad feelings they may have had towards each other are now gone. Or at least that's what they want us to believe by showing so much public affection for each other during a chance rendezvous.

Corinne Olympios kisses Demario Jackson

I'm just going to say what everyone's thinking – yes, this "coincidence" seems like it wasn't a coincidence at all. In fact, it was probably staged and meticulously planned. I wouldn't be shocked if paparazzi were given a heads up so they could have their cameras ready to flash. But whether the moment seen in the photos is real or not, it's clear both Jackson and Olympios are ready to move on.

While we may not know exactly what happened on that fateful day in paradise, we do know that, most importantly, both parties are OK and not looking to place blame (except on the media for allowing the rumors and anonymous sources to spiral out of control). So it's time for everyone to move on, eh?

How Bad Are Pacifiers, Really?

0
0

A couple of weeks ago, I visited family whom I love dearly and only get to see a few times a year. Some relatives were meeting our daughter, who was about to turn 1, for the first time. In between the "awww-she’s-so-cute" remarks, I was asked quite a few parenting questions that were a little too personal — and borderline intrusive.

One question that kept coming up, over and over again, was whether we were using a pacifier for our little one (we were) — and when we were planning to take it away. She was, after all, turning 1 in a few days. I honestly hadn’t thought too much about it yet, but their prying forced me to. In fact, I started thinking about my little one’s start with her pacifier — which we'd brought in the hospital bag before she was even born. Oops. Was that mistake No. 1?

More: 10 Surefire Ways to Piss Off a Pregnant Woman

My eldest son, now 8 years old, had no problem tossing his pacifier in the garbage can at around 14 months like it was the most effortless thing in the world. His little sister, on the other hand, relied on it a little bit more to help soothe her to sleep for naps and at bedtime. The pacifier situation was also a running joke with my siblings; the youngest two had a horrible time getting rid of theirs — even at age 3 — and would often be found in their bedroom with their "secret" stash. Outcome? They both ended up with braces.

Dentist Sabrina Magid Katz says that some doctors and organizations advise against pacifier use, at least early on, because they can cause 'nipple confusion' and interfere with early breastfeeding.

"Pacifier use is associated with early weaning of breastfeeding and may be an indicator of breastfeeding difficulties," continues Dr. Katz. "That said, pacifiers can help a breastfeeding mother when used for limited circumstances and short periods of time. In addition, the non-nutritive sucking of pacifiers has been shown to be beneficial to neonates and decrease hospital stay [length]." Overall, the most standout things that can happen with prolonged use of pacifiers are “cavities, poor tooth position, improper jaw development, and improper tongue habits," Dr. Katz adds.

More: 7 Tricks to Teach Your Kids Healthy Dental Habits

However, that doesn’t mean we need to avoid pacifiers completely. “To some extent, pacifiers are a parenting decision," says Dr. Katz. "As a mother myself, I understand the need to help soothe a baby. In addition, while an official recommendation can't be made, some studies indicate pacifiers may help to prevent SIDS. Others show they may provide some pain management during painful procedures in neonates. Pacifiers are also easier to take away than fingers, so it may be easier to wean from pacifier use than finger sucking if the habit persists."

As parents, there are precautions that we can take when using pacifiers to help eliminate any of the negative side effects. “Obviously, make sure the pacifier is safe," says Katz. "Makeshift pacifiers can be hazardous, and the design and material should be tested and controlled. They should also be inspected regularly to make sure it is intact. Cavities are also a major concern, but can largely be avoided by choosing a clean [pacifier]. It should also be noted that aggressive cavity-causing bacteria can be transmitted to babies and small children. This is why we advise never to 'clean' the pacifier by putting it in your mouth."

Obviously, limiting the use of pacifiers is the key to avoiding these side effects and can make a huge impact on your child’s overall health. “Studies show significant differences in bite, jaw shape and tooth positions in children who use pacifiers at 24 and 36 months compared to those who stopped at 12 months. It is also shown that the longer the use of the pacifier, in months, the stronger the association with major bite problems," warns Katz.

More: 7 Lies People Tell You About Newborns

And if we give in to prolonged use of the pacifier, we might be kicking ourselves later. However, Katz says there are new ways to help correct dental issues more comfortably and naturally than ever, including the use of lasers and air abrasion for cavities. That said, never ever put sweetener of any kind on a pacifier. If a regular, clean pacifier isn't soothing the baby, it's time to try something else entirely.

Knowing what I know now (and as keen as I am to avoid future dental bills), I think that age 1 sounds like the perfect time to start weaning our tot off her pacifier, just like we did with my first child. While I felt judged by family members (this is still a decision between my husband and me that really doesn't include them), at least their questions spurred us to have that conversation — alone.

Insider Leaks 5 More Names of Celebrities Competing on DWTS Season 25

0

Update September 1, 2017, 8:25 a.m. PT: An anonymous source has revealed more cast members for Dancing with the Stars Season 25, and it looks like it's shaping up to be a good one. According to E! Online, the following celebrities are ready to lace up their dancing shoes and hit the floor: Grease! Live singer and actor Jordan Fisher, Malcolm in the Middle's Frankie Muniz, NBA star Derek Fisher, Shark Tank's Barbara Corcoran and former paralympic swimmer Victoria Arlen.

Of course, ABC hasn't confirmed any of these rumors yet, but we wouldn't be surprised if they're true — we heard about Drew Scott joining the show way ahead of the official casting announcement (see below).

Gone are the days when networks could keep secrets from being spoiled in the news. But whatever, we're ready to watch this dancing showdown. It all starts Sept. 18.

Update August 28, 2017, 8:40 a.m. PT: Dancing with the Stars Season 25 has two new competitors — and they know each other well.

Married couple Nick and Vanessa Lachey will each compete for the Mirrorball trophy this season, joining an already impressively star-studded cast list. We only have a few questions: Which Lachey will advance further? Who will their kids root for? Will they use how well they know each other to sabotage, or will they compete peacefully? There are no rules in love, war and Dancing with the Stars, as the old saying (kinda) goes.

The Lacheys competing against each other as a married couple isn't unprecedented for the show. In Season 21, Carlos and Alexa PenaVega went head to head. Alexa came in sixth place, while Carlos went all the way to the semis.

Update August 24, 2017, 11:50 a.m. PT: After a few seasons away, Entertainment Tonight reported that dance pro Mark Ballas would return to Dancing with the Stars for Season 25.

Mark Ballas DWTS Season 25

Mark Ballas DWTS Season 25

Ballas was last seen on Season 22 of DWTS, so his return has caused a lot of excitement. Good Morning America also announced the other pros that will return for Season 25, including: Emma Slater, Lindsay Arnold, Keo Motsepe, Artem Chigvintsev, Gleb Savchenko, Sharna Burgess and Witney Carson. Pro Alan Bersten is set to make his debut.

Original story:

Judging by the casting rumors, Dancing with the Stars is about to two-step its way into the most interesting season yet. Not only have sources been buzzing about ABC courting controversial contestants Sean Spicer and DeMario Jackson, the latest reports also suggest the network has secured TV fan favorites Drew Scott and Nikki Bella for the eclectic cast.

More: Maksim Chmerkovskiy & Peta Murgatroyd Had the Most Magical Wedding in 2017

Word has it we'll find out for sure on Thursday, Aug. 24 when ABC officially announces the cast for Season 25 on Good Morning America. Until then, it's anyone's guess who'll actually make the cut. But, hey, here's hoping this most recent round of rumors turns out to be true — who wouldn't love to see Property Brothers' Drew Scott and Total Divas' Nikki Bella compete for the coveted Mirrorball trophy?

An HGTV fan favorite, Scott appears alongside his twin brother Jonathan on their popular home renovation series. A dapper dresser and smoother talker, he serves as the foil to his flannel-wearing, hammer-wielding contractor bro (who admittedly would have been fun to watch on the dance floor too).

More: Tom Bergeron Turns Into Ugly Sexist While Interviewing Simone Biles

Coincidentally, Bella is also a twin — one-half of WWE's famous Bella Twins with sister Brie. That's not Bella's only claim to fame, either. She happens to be engaged to another huge name in the wrestling world: John Cena.

Yep, if this all shakes out, it should be quite a spectacle to behold. Dancing with the Stars Season 25 premieres on Monday, Sept. 18 at 8/7c on ABC.

The Reason Yawns Are Contagious

0
0

Ever wonder why it's impossible not to yawn when you see someone else doing it? Thanks to a new study, we have a better idea as well as a possible way to help treat disorders such as Tourette's syndrome.

Research published in Current Biology found that yawning is triggered involuntarily when we see someone else yawn. This is a common form of echophenomenon, which is a fancy word for automatically mimicking another person's actions or words. While the cause of this brain phenomenon is unknown, researchers believe it's tied to neurological conditions like Tourette's, autism and epilepsy, and understanding echophenomena might provide clues for treatment.

More: Eating Enough Fruits & Veggies for Health Benefits Isn't as Hard as You Thought

Two other interesting findings came from this study. First, if someone specifically tells you not to yawn, it's ever harder to avoid yawning. Along the same lines, if you try not to yawn, it will only make it worse. Second, applying electrical stimulation also caused people to yawn — something that may be used to treat conditions like Tourette's syndrome.

MoreThese Foods Actually Improve Your Eyesight

Contagious yawns aren't limited to humans. Researchers found that the same thing happens among chimpanzees and dogs as well.

"The popular theory for contagious yawning is that it is linked with empathy for others, mimicry and social bonding," Stephen Jackson — one of the authors of the study — told USA Today. "But again the evidence for this is weak. I still think that much more research is required to understand the function and biology of yawning."

Regardless of the cause, it's probably a safe bet that you're yawning right now.

French Firefighter Reveals Princess Diana's Final Words 20 Years Ago

It’s been 20 years since the tragic death of Princess Diana took the world by surprise. While many friends, family members and fans took to Twitter yesterday to honor her memory, one of the French firefighters who responded to the fiery car crash revealed the princess’s final words in an exclusive interview with The Sun.

More: The Shocking Details You Never Knew About Princess Diana's Life As Royalty

In his first newspaper interview about the 1997 tragedy, Xavier Gourmelon, now 50, the firefighter who attempted to save Princess Diana’s life after his team responded to the crash, recalled that he truly believed the princess was going to survive. Gourmelon and his team arrived at the site of the crashed Mercedes to find Diana, her bodyguard, her driver, and her lover, Dodi Fayed trapped in the wrecked car. “We dealt with it like any other road accident,” Gourmelon told The Sun. Gourmelon explained he wanted to tell his story now because he’s no longer a member of the fire service, which is a faction of the French military.

According to his accounts of the night, Diana was lying in the back of the car, conscious but “moving very slightly.” He pulled her out of the car but didn't see any significant signs of injury. In a truly heartbreaking moment, Diana then asked him: “My God, what’s happened?”

Gourmelon says he comforted her and gave her oxygen to help her calm down before she went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing. He told The Sun he immediately resuscitated the princess and thought she was going to make it but had no idea he was helping the Princess of Wales until she was put into an ambulance.

“The memory of that night will stay with me forever.” Gourmelon said. He’s not alone. It’s a night many of us will never forget – the passing of the beloved Princess Diana.
