The Civil Wars have always seemed to be the opposite of the name they gave themselves, but it looks like that's no longer true. The band canceled the remainder of their current tour on Tuesday, sparking speculation that they may no longer be a band.
"We sincerely apologize for the canceling of all of our tour dates. It is something we deeply regret," the band posted on their Facebook page Nov. 7. "However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition, we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your amazing love & support."
The band is comprised of only two members, Joy Williams and John Paul White, but they didn't mention whether the fight was only between the two of them.
"Williams and White are both married, but to other people," said the Associated Press. "Williams had a baby this summer with husband Nate Yetton, the duo's manager."
The band added that they hope to have new music out in 2013, possibly in an attempt to dispel rumors that they may be breaking up. But only time will tell if they get back together long enough to make that music. Williams and White seemed genuinely sorry for having to miss the dates, and they took the extra step of offering their fans a refund for any extra fees.
"We understand that there are many of you stuck with service charges and travel reservations due to our abrupt cancelations," they told their fans. "Please email us... if there are costs incurred that you would like to be reimbursed for... and we will do our best to reimburse you for nonrefundable charges."
The band won a Grammy Award in 2012 for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Folk Album, but they may be best known to general audiences for their song "Safe & Sound," with Taylor Swift. The song was featured on the soundtrack for The Hunger Games.
