With October 31 fast approaching, your kids are sure to beg to have all their friends over for a festive Halloween-themed party. Here are some great tips to make sure your party is the talk of the playground!

How to... Plan a kids Halloween party

Step 1: Consider ages

Keep in mind the ages of the children attending your party. Having a house full of 4- or 5-year-olds will call for a much different party than if your kids are 7, 8 or 9. Keep your party age-appropriate to ensure everyone has a great time.

Step 2: Choose a theme

Are your kids and their friends more likely to enjoy a friendly jack-o'-lantern party or a scary-themed celebration complete with ghosts, ghouls, spiders and zombies? Age will be a big factor in this decision, as will the temperament of your individual children. Be sure to consult with your kids about what kind of party will be most fun for them and their friends.

Another important consideration is whether this will be a costume party, and make sure your guests are aware either way. No kid wants to be the only one that comes in costume or the only one not dressed up at a Halloween party.

Step 3: Decorate

Be sure to dress up your home for the occasion! At this time of year, craft and costume stores are filled with fun, affordable Halloween decorations. Alternatively, you can go to the DIY route and transform things you likely already have around the house into budget-friendly Halloween decor.

Step 4: Find recipes

No Halloween party will be complete without some spooky snacks! Check out our list of top 10 scary snacks for Halloween parties and find some festive or frightening drink ideas online. Having a few simple treats available will keep your little monsters full and having fun.

Step 5: Fun activities

Finally, once everything is prepared and everyone has arrived, keep your little guests entertained with Halloween-themed games, crafts or other activities. With a full schedule of fun things to do, your kids’ friends will leave looking forward to next year’s Halloween bash!
